- 1:03Speaker 4: Chip Haller, Sports Talk, Sports Radio, 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM.
- 1:08Speaker 4: On a Thursday afternoon, so much going on this weekend sports-wise.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Huge college football weekend. Maybe we'll get a chance to
- 1:18Speaker 4: talk about Lane Kiffin, continuing to do Lane Kiffin things.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Getting to some NFL football. Chip has told me I've
- 1:26Speaker 4: got to talk a little bit of baseball. I am
- 1:28Speaker 4: joined here by the wonderful Carla Castillo from KBTX and
- 1:33Speaker 4: her son Kyle is here with us. But as, again,
- 1:36Speaker 4: you have not been here with us in a while,
- 1:39Speaker 4: I do want to give people, because I'm guessing a
- 1:42Speaker 4: lot of the people may not... Know that you, what
- 1:45Speaker 4: your day, I said, I was about to say daytime job,
- 1:48Speaker 4: but your super early morning job is and what you
- 1:54Speaker 4: do here for us here in the community.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 5: So I am a morning news anchor at KBTX. So
- 2:01Speaker 5: we go on air from 4.30 in the morning.
- 2:03Speaker 6: To 7 a.m.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Like I said, super early morning.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Yeah, so my day starts about 2 in the morning
- 2:09Speaker 5: when my alarm goes off, and I'm like, please, God,
- 2:12Speaker 5: make that be, like, not right.
- 2:14Speaker 7: Get my butt up. Get ready.
- 2:16Speaker 5: And I'm at the station between 2 and 3. And
- 2:18Speaker 5: this is why I am extra goofy.
- 2:21Speaker 7: Sure, yeah, right.
- 2:28Speaker 5: But, you know, I, it does allow me to, um,
- 2:31Speaker 5: I'm usually finished with my shift before noon.
- 2:34Speaker 7: And so then I can go, you know, do hood
- 2:35Speaker 7: rat things.
- 2:39Speaker 4: As I said, when we were just going through that
- 2:41Speaker 4: little break. Yeah. Therapy for Kyle this hour. Kyle is
- 2:45Speaker 4: her son and just a wonderful student here at Braz.
- 2:49Speaker 4: He's like, yes, this is me. Wonderful student.
- 2:51Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 2:51Speaker 4: I don't know about that. At Braz's Christian. And you play,
- 2:55Speaker 4: I know baseball, soccer. Yeah. That's it. That's it, right?
- 2:59Speaker 5: They tried to get him to play football, and he's like, nah, but,
- 3:02Speaker 5: you know, because he's a tall, he's a tall, tall, like, O-line, D-line, yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 7: And he was like, you know, I'm okay.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It's hot. It is just hot. Way too hot. Absolutely
- 3:15Speaker 4: way too hot. I've told this story before. The very
- 3:17Speaker 4: last time that I... was on a football field as
- 3:21Speaker 4: a player was August of, I guess that would have
- 3:25Speaker 4: been 92, my freshman year. And we're getting pads and
- 3:29Speaker 4: getting ready.
- 3:30Speaker 7: You were a freshman in 92? I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Shots are coming from this side of the studio now?
- 3:36Speaker 7: I was like, did you have a leather chest strap?
- 3:38Speaker 6: Wow.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Holy cow.
- 3:42Speaker 9: I'm sorry.
- 3:43Speaker 4: And now we see why you will not be back
- 3:45Speaker 4: on the show.
- 3:46Speaker 9: Did you have a one-bar face mask?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Just coming from all over the place.
- 3:51Speaker 7: You couldn't see us, could you? Could you hear us, Grandpa?
- 3:55Speaker 10: Man.
- 3:55Speaker 7: Yeah, we're never coming back.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I'm sorry. Not if y'all are all going to gang up.
- 3:58Speaker 7: Okay, I'm sorry. So the last time you were on the.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Well, and so one of the freshman football coaches was
- 4:03Speaker 4: the JV basketball coach. And so I'm standing there in line,
- 4:06Speaker 4: and he's just like... you know, you don't have to
- 4:09Speaker 4: be out here.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:09Speaker 4: And I'm like, what do you mean? He's like, I
- 4:11Speaker 4: can just go open up the basketball gym for you
- 4:13Speaker 4: and you can be in the air conditioning and just
- 4:15Speaker 4: go and do that. And I'm like, so last time
- 4:19Speaker 4: I was on the football.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Field as a player, amazing.
- 4:22Speaker 4: That was it.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I feel like you really have to love it, right?
- 4:25Speaker 5: Like it is gotta be for the, for the love
- 4:28Speaker 5: of game. If you are out there in these conditions
- 4:32Speaker 5: or whatever it is, whatever your drive is for, uh,
- 4:35Speaker 5: I do love that Kyle goes out and supports his
- 4:37Speaker 5: teammates because a lot of them are on the baseball team,
- 4:41Speaker 5: things like that.
- 4:41Speaker 7: And so you, you cheer them on and you rib
- 4:43Speaker 7: them for, you know, well, and I know.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Uh, cause I did coach at, at the other private
- 4:49Speaker 4: school here in town, St. Joseph's. He gave me a look. Oh,
- 4:55Speaker 4: All the other ones are irrelevant. But I know in
- 4:58Speaker 4: a situation like that, one, you play multiple sports because
- 5:01Speaker 4: you have to just because of the size of the school.
- 5:04Speaker 4: But also, you play multiple positions. Everybody's going both ways,
- 5:10Speaker 4: especially on football. But yeah, you've got to be very adaptive.
- 5:14Speaker 4: So going back to what we were saying earlier, sports
- 5:17Speaker 4: is sports. It's just so important and how things go.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I want to get into a little bit of NFL
- 5:27Speaker 4: talk and one of the things that when you have
- 5:28Speaker 4: been on here with us before we like to make
- 5:31Speaker 4: fun of are the Cowboys fans. Haven't they gone through enough? Well,
- 5:38Speaker 4: and I don't know, and I forgot to mention this
- 5:41Speaker 4: as we came back. If you do, because we apparently
- 5:43Speaker 4: had someone call in to the Polaris Fun Center phone
- 5:45Speaker 4: line earlier, and I am so sorry that we missed you.
- 5:50Speaker 4: If you want to try and call back, we will
- 5:51Speaker 4: be more aware of who is calling back.
- 5:55Speaker 10: 979-693-1150.
- 5:57Speaker 4: On the Polaris Fun Center phone line, if you want
- 5:59Speaker 4: to come and tell us what a wonderful job that
- 6:02Speaker 4: we're doing.
- 6:03Speaker 7: Don't let my sarcasm fool you. I'm a little sensitive,
- 6:07Speaker 7: so be kind.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Yes, I did want to apologize.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Or bring it and light a fire. Let's go.
- 6:13Speaker 4: If you did call, we do apologize. We did not
- 6:16Speaker 4: see that. I was not paying attention to the board.
- 6:19Speaker 4: And so we just want to make sure that you
- 6:20Speaker 4: can call and make fun of us or be nice
- 6:23Speaker 4: to us or whatever it is. On the Polaris Fun
- 6:25Speaker 4: Center phone line. Again, that is 979-693-1150.
- 6:28Speaker 9: Or you can text.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Or you can text to that. Yeah, he's got the
- 6:32Speaker 4: text lined up now. See, like all the ways to
- 6:34Speaker 4: get up here and talk with us. But no, we
- 6:37Speaker 4: appreciate everybody listening that we go through this. Cowboys fans.
- 6:43Speaker 4: We have one in the studio with us. Okay, so
- 6:47Speaker 4: how are you feeling?
- 6:49Speaker 9: After week one?
- 6:50Speaker 4: Yes, after week one. Is it panic time? So that's
- 6:54Speaker 4: what I'm trying to figure out.
- 6:56Speaker 9: Is it panic time? I would still say no.
- 6:58Speaker 4: No, okay.
- 6:59Speaker 9: Because, I mean, John Harbaugh is a really good coach.
- 7:01Speaker 6: He is.
- 7:02Speaker 9: You know, I mean, and I just feel like they
- 7:05Speaker 9: did turn around a lot in the past year.
- 7:07Speaker 4: They did.
- 7:08Speaker 9: The Giants have.
- 7:09Speaker 4: And this is why I'm wondering if it's panic time,
- 7:12Speaker 4: because it is still the Giants, and they have been
- 7:15Speaker 4: quite awful here recently.
- 7:17Speaker 9: I would say that we have to win this week.
- 7:19Speaker 4: And when I say Giants, that could be the football
- 7:21Speaker 4: Giants or the baseball Giants. Just wanted to make sure
- 7:25Speaker 4: that everybody understood the Giants have been awful lately.
- 7:27Speaker 9: But yeah, I do feel like if we lose to
- 7:31Speaker 9: the Commanders this week, then it is Panthers.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Well, because that is a huge thing. They say that
- 7:38Speaker 4: if you go 0-2 to start the season, your chance
- 7:40Speaker 4: of making the playoffs is 11%. And so that's why
- 7:44Speaker 4: I'm like, is it panic time for the Cowboys? Because
- 7:47Speaker 4: if you do lose this game and your defense is
- 7:50Speaker 4: not as good as everyone all summer talked about, and
- 7:55Speaker 4: if Dak can't pull you out of the holes that
- 7:57Speaker 4: he was able to last year with the offense and
- 8:00Speaker 4: you fall to 0-2.
- 8:03Speaker 9: I'm not saying that it's comfortable. I mean, the temperature
- 8:09Speaker 9: is definitely getting a little warmer.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Is this your year?
- 8:11Speaker 10: No.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Hey, at least you're honest.
- 8:13Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 4: That's an honest Cowboys fan. That is something that we
- 8:17Speaker 4: do not see very often.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Well, and isn't it more fun when you like have,
- 8:22Speaker 5: I mean, you've got to, I don't, I shouldn't say
- 8:24Speaker 5: zero expectations. Right.
- 8:25Speaker 7: But that when you're like, Oh, Hey, this is much
- 8:27Speaker 7: better than we expected. Or I don't know that it's a,
- 8:31Speaker 7: I don't know. Winning is fun from a media standpoint.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Like when, when you have someone like Jerry Jones who
- 8:38Speaker 4: typically every summer is is wanting to be the center
- 8:42Speaker 4: of all of the attention of the sports world. And
- 8:46Speaker 4: then he has taken, he's just quiet all summer. How
- 8:52Speaker 4: does that work? If you had decided to stay more
- 8:57Speaker 4: in the sports realm and wanted to be, I guess,
- 9:01Speaker 4: the Cowboys beat writer, how does that work to where
- 9:03Speaker 4: you're just like, give me something, Jerry. Help me out.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean, hopefully at that point you are
- 9:10Speaker 5: an enterprising reporter enough where you have enough of, like,
- 9:13Speaker 5: your other sources, contacts, and you can find the other storylines,
- 9:17Speaker 5: and you don't have the obvious, yeah, like, the chatty owner.
- 9:23Speaker 7: But I was trying to find a kind way to
- 9:26Speaker 7: say that.
- 9:26Speaker 4: He's a chatty owner.
- 9:27Speaker 5: But listen, I will say, like, sports, even in the
- 9:30Speaker 5: time that, because I was, oh, God bless, um, Remember
- 9:35Speaker 5: I was in college and I say, remember, I think
- 9:37Speaker 5: maybe you'll remember when I wanted, when I was in
- 9:40Speaker 5: college and I wanted to do sports, it was Bill
- 9:42Speaker 5: Parcells first year as the Dallas Cowboys coach. And I'm
- 9:46Speaker 5: looking at Dan Campbell on the screen behind us and
- 9:48Speaker 5: I'm thinking he was just the nicest man to interview
- 9:52Speaker 5: and young player and everything. And so like it's covering
- 9:55Speaker 5: sports is different now and the access is totally different.
- 9:57Speaker 5: And yeah, so ideally for these journalists, especially for their fans,
- 10:01Speaker 5: they are finding other things to talk about and maybe
- 10:04Speaker 5: being like, um.
- 10:05Speaker 7: Anybody else think it's weird that Jerry's a little quiet?
- 10:07Speaker 11: Are you good?
- 10:08Speaker 7: You send him a meme, right? That's how you communicate.
- 10:12Speaker 4: A thumbs up emoji.
- 10:13Speaker 12: Yes, exactly.
- 10:13Speaker 13: Exactly.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Well, I'm just curious. Like, yeah, that's why I'm just
- 10:16Speaker 4: trying to figure out what this season is going to
- 10:19Speaker 4: be like, both for the Cowboys, but it's been kind
- 10:23Speaker 4: of a weird start to the season for a number
- 10:26Speaker 4: of different teams. Like, you have, and I can admit,
- 10:30Speaker 4: I am a Patrick Mahomes fan. I'm not a Kansas
- 10:33Speaker 4: City Chiefs fan necessarily. Sorry, it's just the blank stare
- 10:39Speaker 4: that I'm getting from Kyle over there. Are you not
- 10:42Speaker 4: a Patrick Mahomes fan at all?
- 10:43Speaker 10: Really? Fraud.
- 10:45Speaker 7: Do you have a team, bud? I don't even know.
- 10:47Speaker 4: I like the Texans.
- 10:48Speaker 7: The Texans.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Okay.
- 10:50Speaker 9: Do you believe in C.J. Stroud this year?
- 10:51Speaker 4: Oh, no. There we go. I'm just glad he didn't
- 10:54Speaker 4: go out there, what was it, Sunday and throw seven
- 10:57Speaker 4: picks again?
- 10:57Speaker 13: Yes.
- 10:57Speaker 5: It's a start.
- 10:58Speaker 4: That is a very good start. We've got to start somewhere.
- 11:01Speaker 4: That is a very good start somewhere. So, yeah, I
- 11:03Speaker 4: am a Kansas City Chiefs fan. No, I am not
- 11:06Speaker 4: a Kansas City Chiefs fan. I am a Patrick Mahomes fan.
- 11:10Speaker 4: I have become, I guess, a Taylor Swift fan. which
- 11:14Speaker 4: means that I am a Travis Kelsey fan when it
- 11:16Speaker 4: comes to, yeah. Cause that again, Jared, I told you
- 11:19Speaker 4: that was a, we.
- 11:19Speaker 7: Played, uh, uh, Taylor Swift, shake it off.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Yes, because my daughter's out there. But again, I like
- 11:27Speaker 4: their offense. I like being able to see what they're
- 11:29Speaker 4: able to do. And for him to come back in
- 11:32Speaker 4: nine months after, and I have had a major knee
- 11:36Speaker 4: surgery myself, and it was the better part of a
- 11:41Speaker 4: year before I was walking normally. let alone out on
- 11:45Speaker 4: a football field again. Okay.
- 11:48Speaker 5: And I'm not trying to take anything away from him,
- 11:50Speaker 5: but we have to remember they have, sorry, because this
- 11:52Speaker 5: is like when people are like, JLo is almost 60
- 11:55Speaker 5: years old and she looks fabulous.
- 11:56Speaker 14: They've got access to medicine.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Top of the line.
- 12:00Speaker 14: It's literally his job to get better, right?
- 12:03Speaker 7: And, like, if you don't, well, then bye.
- 12:06Speaker 9: Well, what I was kind of impressed with was Malik
- 12:09Speaker 9: Nabors also had.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Yes, same thing.
- 12:12Speaker 9: And he was a very, very maybe going into week one.
- 12:15Speaker 10: Yep.
- 12:15Speaker 9: And I feel like I'm not... biggest Chiefs fan or
- 12:19Speaker 9: a Patrick Mahomes fan, but I do give him props
- 12:21Speaker 9: for wanting to go back out there. I would probably
- 12:24Speaker 9: say that he forced himself to go back there, not
- 12:26Speaker 9: back out there, at least like 80% healthy.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Would you consider yourself like a diehard Cowboys fan. Do
- 12:36Speaker 4: you think that the Cowboys, being that it was the Giants,
- 12:41Speaker 4: and Scataboo was coming off of ankle surgery, Neighbors was
- 12:46Speaker 4: coming off of his knee surgery, and at the end
- 12:49Speaker 4: of the day, it is still the Giants, and they
- 12:51Speaker 4: have not been very good. Why are you maybe not
- 12:57Speaker 4: panicking because the Cowboys just overlooked the Giants?
- 13:00Speaker 9: I think they definitely overlooked the Giants going into week one.
- 13:03Speaker 9: And I feel like they learned very quickly why they
- 13:06Speaker 9: were wrong to overlook the Giants. I mean, Dak had
- 13:10Speaker 9: horrible plays, bad judgment calls. There was the horrible flags,
- 13:16Speaker 9: the unnecessary flags with Javante taunting into the end zone.
- 13:21Speaker 9: I just feel like they weren't prepared as they should
- 13:23Speaker 9: have been.
- 13:24Speaker 4: That is, yeah. And so, again, I'm also curious, like,
- 13:29Speaker 4: Not only if they lose this weekend to Washington will
- 13:32Speaker 4: they be 0-2 in the season. That's 0-2 in division.
- 13:34Speaker 4: So that is an even bigger hole to try to
- 13:39Speaker 4: dig your way out of. Am I making this worse
- 13:41Speaker 4: for you as I keep pointing all of these things?
- 13:44Speaker 9: No, you're saying everything that I've already thought about.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Because, I mean, if we go 0-2 at the.
- 13:48Speaker 9: Start of the season, especially with two divisional opponents, then
- 13:52Speaker 9: at that point I feel like we will be even
- 13:53Speaker 9: lucky for a wild card.
- 13:56Speaker 4: If, if, if you get that and then yeah, Jerry
- 13:58Speaker 4: will be on the phone on, on every sports show
- 14:01Speaker 4: that he can be talking about the things that he's
- 14:04Speaker 4: going to want to do to, to make his team better.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I pulled up the matchups for this weekend and Kyle,
- 14:10Speaker 4: I know you've probably looked at them as you, what
- 14:15Speaker 4: I'm going to look directly at you now and see
- 14:17Speaker 4: what are you seeing as a good matchup? What are
- 14:20Speaker 4: you seeing as a bad matchup? What are you going
- 14:21Speaker 4: to be watching? Well, whatever's on TV. Okay. Sunday tickets
- 14:25Speaker 4: too expensive. But, I mean, game of the week, Minnesota-Chicago.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Why is that? Did you not see Caleb Williams last week?
- 14:34Speaker 4: I did see Caleb. I'm asking you why it was
- 14:36Speaker 4: the game.
- 14:37Speaker 10: 59?
- 14:37Speaker 5: 58?
- 14:37Speaker 4: Something like that? It was 59, yeah.
- 14:40Speaker 10: 59 points.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Most points as a franchise they've scored in 40 years.
- 14:44Speaker 4: As they have not scored that many points as a
- 14:46Speaker 4: franchise in 40 plus years. No, I think the Chicago
- 14:50Speaker 4: Bears are really doing a good job. I think, speaking
- 14:54Speaker 4: of Dan Campbell from earlier, I think what is hurting
- 14:57Speaker 4: the Lions is that Ben Johnson, as the offensive coordinator,
- 15:01Speaker 4: has gone over to the Chicago Bears. Obviously, you want
- 15:04Speaker 4: everybody to do better. If you are a coach, you
- 15:07Speaker 4: want your guys to become coaches themselves and be a
- 15:10Speaker 4: lot better. But I think you were seeing where the
- 15:14Speaker 4: brain trust of the offensive side of the ball for
- 15:16Speaker 4: the Lions for those years were. has went with Ben Johnson,
- 15:20Speaker 4: and Caleb finally has a teacher that can help him
- 15:24Speaker 4: out a lot. Ms. Carla, what are you going to
- 15:26Speaker 4: be looking at?
- 15:27Speaker 7: I will have a.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Sorry, that's what we're joking about. Just sports.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Just sports, yeah. I'll have a Pittsburgh. I'll have an Eagle.
- 15:41Speaker 9: I went to Philly once, and I really enjoyed it,
- 15:43Speaker 9: so I'm going to pick them.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Listen, football has never been, I've never really had a
- 15:49Speaker 5: football team, I'll be honest, and I don't have, right
- 15:52Speaker 5: now I've got Hulu and Disney Plus, so that's what
- 15:54Speaker 5: I want.
- 15:55Speaker 4: So I guess the 49ers are in the Bay Area,
- 15:58Speaker 4: kind of where you're from, but. You were not a
- 16:01Speaker 4: big 49ers fan as you were.
- 16:03Speaker 7: No, yeah. I really don't know why.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I'll be honest.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Because growing up with the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders, obviously.
- 16:11Speaker 5: But I think there was also that it felt like
- 16:15Speaker 5: it would be a stereotype as a Latina if I
- 16:17Speaker 5: were an Oakland Raider fan.
- 16:18Speaker 7: And I didn't.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Because it would be.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Now, did I wear my little boyfriend's Oakland Raiders jacket? Yes.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Because, you know, starter baby.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you had to have a starter jacket.
- 16:28Speaker 7: But I also, it wasn't as, I think with baseball
- 16:31Speaker 7: and basketball, right?
- 16:32Speaker 5: They were on, and I've talked about how I was
- 16:34Speaker 5: a San Francisco Giants fan because that was what was
- 16:37Speaker 5: on TV without cable.
- 16:39Speaker 7: And the same with the Sacramento Kings.
- 16:40Speaker 5: So with football not on as often, it was like, okay, well.
- 16:46Speaker 5: So it was just easier to watch the other teams
- 16:48Speaker 5: and kind of fall in love with the other teams.
- 16:50Speaker 4: And it's weird, as you mentioned that, like why... You, like, when,
- 16:54Speaker 4: especially our generation, not necessarily going to talk with Kyle
- 16:57Speaker 4: because you have so much access to everything now. Oh, yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 4: You mentioned why you have, like, why everybody was so
- 17:03Speaker 4: diehard to their team was because that was all that
- 17:07Speaker 4: you could see was your team. I was lucky that
- 17:10Speaker 4: when we moved to Texas that I could watch the
- 17:14Speaker 4: Braves only because of WTBS.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 4: That was literally the only reason is because of Ted Turner,
- 17:20Speaker 4: and he would broadcast the Braves game.
- 17:22Speaker 7: He was brilliant.
- 17:23Speaker 5: I have friends who are from Mexico, born and raised
- 17:25Speaker 5: in Mexico, and their family team is the Braves because
- 17:28Speaker 5: that's who they were.
- 17:29Speaker 4: That's who you are.
- 17:29Speaker 7: And you have people, is it WGN?
- 17:31Speaker 4: WGN out of Chicago, yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 7: They're Cubs fans. I'm sorry, Cubs fans because, yeah, that's
- 17:35Speaker 7: who you are. And listen. did I like watching losing teams? No,
- 17:41Speaker 7: but I've been.
- 17:42Speaker 5: To, my school was also good about it's cheaper to
- 17:44Speaker 5: take a bunch of kids to, and you can go
- 17:46Speaker 5: to an afternoon game.
- 17:48Speaker 7: Oh, candlestick boy.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Baseball lends itself to that.
- 17:52Speaker 5: And honestly, even the basketball nosebleeds to a certain extent when,
- 17:57Speaker 5: you know, well, when they're not good.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I am speaking of yes, because I am very lucky
- 18:02Speaker 4: that I get to help broadcast a and M women's
- 18:05Speaker 4: basketball and, And every year since even back to, I mean,
- 18:11Speaker 4: Coach Taylor still does it. Coach Blair did it before.
- 18:13Speaker 4: They have the elementary school day game. And that is
- 18:18Speaker 4: the loudest. that you will ever be a part of
- 18:24Speaker 4: because all the kids are just in there screaming. I
- 18:26Speaker 4: will say one other time when I was with the
- 18:28Speaker 4: team at the SEC tournament. And so when it's the
- 18:32Speaker 4: A & M game and they're here, everybody's cheering for
- 18:35Speaker 4: A & M. At the SEC tournament, none of the
- 18:37Speaker 4: schools that were there had a team to cheer for.
- 18:39Speaker 4: So they were just screaming for both teams the entire time.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And it was just loud all the way around.
- 18:45Speaker 7: And then you get to 67 and all.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yes, everybody loves that.
- 18:54Speaker 9: What game this week for NFL are you looking forward to?
- 19:00Speaker 4: I do want to see how the Texans do. And
- 19:03Speaker 4: I know that's the early game on Sunday with Cincinnati.
- 19:06Speaker 4: But I think they just said they don't know if
- 19:07Speaker 4: Joe Burrow is going to play. He's going to play.
- 19:10Speaker 9: He just has back tightness, but he says that he's
- 19:11Speaker 9: going to play.
- 19:12Speaker 4: He's going to play. I heard that earlier this morning
- 19:14Speaker 4: that he was having back tightness and seeing how that was.
- 19:17Speaker 4: And the way that the Texans lost last week, to
- 19:21Speaker 4: the Bills playing halfway decent and still ended up losing
- 19:26Speaker 4: to the Bills.
- 19:28Speaker 7: Catch that pick in the end zone and that's the game.
- 19:30Speaker 4: That's all you got to do.
- 19:32Speaker 9: That's definitely a game on my book, but I'm also
- 19:35Speaker 9: kind of looking forward to tonight's game, Lions versus Bills.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. Well, and again, Bills are opening their brand
- 19:41Speaker 4: new stadium that they've been building for quite some time.
- 19:45Speaker 4: You had an interesting fact about the stadium that it's
- 19:50Speaker 4: a multi-billion dollar stadium and there is a pillar there
- 19:56Speaker 4: that is blocking like an entire section. And they were
- 20:01Speaker 4: so far down the line in the building process that
- 20:04Speaker 4: it was just like, Got to leave it. It's there now.
- 20:08Speaker 11: Oopsie.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Now, I do like the one thing, and going back
- 20:12Speaker 4: to this, because I saw them talking about it during
- 20:14Speaker 4: the offseason some. And I will never understand this about
- 20:18Speaker 4: Bills Mafia. They do a lot for charity. They do
- 20:21Speaker 4: a lot for a bunch of different things. But they
- 20:24Speaker 4: also jump on tables and break them. And so there
- 20:28Speaker 4: is a design of a broken table in the stadium
- 20:32Speaker 4: that in kind of an homage to the fans that
- 20:35Speaker 4: do that. And so, yeah, look at it. They have
- 20:38Speaker 4: a broken table kind of statue in that stadium to
- 20:43Speaker 4: pay homage to the Bills Mafia fans. But, yeah, see?
- 20:47Speaker 6: So you're saying I.
- 20:48Speaker 7: Should be a Bills fan?
- 20:49Speaker 10: No.
- 20:50Speaker 9: Yeah, it's like in the concourse.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it's in the concourse and they have it in
- 20:54Speaker 4: there as a tribute to their fans. But I'm like, ah,
- 20:57Speaker 4: there's zero chance. But yeah, they just dive on to
- 21:01Speaker 4: stay on the tables.
- 21:02Speaker 9: I've seen videos where they light it on fire sometimes.
- 21:05Speaker 4: They do some of the... Anything to stay warm.
- 21:09Speaker 9: I mean, whenever it gets to November, December, you got
- 21:12Speaker 9: to do what you got to do.
- 21:12Speaker 12: That's true.
- 21:13Speaker 5: And listen, Jason printed out some information for us and
- 21:16Speaker 5: you've got the game tonight. Tickets as low as $ 521.
- 21:19Speaker 5: That was something.
- 21:22Speaker 4: But yes, yeah, it's the first game.
- 21:23Speaker 7: Sorry, am I getting ahead of?
- 21:25Speaker 11: No, no, no.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I was saying that that was one of the things
- 21:26Speaker 4: I'm glad you had talked about before we came on.
- 21:28Speaker 4: They're like, yeah, it is the first game in their
- 21:31Speaker 4: brand new stadium. And so, yeah, tickets are super expensive.
- 21:36Speaker 9: Looking at it now. The only closest game that compares
- 21:41Speaker 9: to those ticket prices is the Bears versus the Vikings.
- 21:44Speaker 9: Tickets are as low as $ 277. Everything else is like
- 21:45Speaker 9: $ 120 and below.
- 21:49Speaker 5: You can go watch Washington at Dallas for as low
- 21:52Speaker 5: as $ 30.
- 21:53Speaker 7: Now, is that the standing room?
- 21:55Speaker 9: That's the standing room.
- 21:56Speaker 7: That's what I thought.
- 21:57Speaker 9: I've gotten fooled by that many times. I'm like, oh, perfect.
- 22:01Speaker 9: Cowboys are $ 30. They're doing really bad this season. And
- 22:05Speaker 9: then I go on and it's like standing room. And
- 22:07Speaker 9: then in the 400s, it's still $ 120. You know what?
- 22:09Speaker 9: Our TV's better.
- 22:13Speaker 4: No, sometimes, yeah. And that's the funny balance that the
- 22:15Speaker 4: NFL is trying to do is... The television experience, like, yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 4: you're at home. Like, they've made the television experience so
- 22:24Speaker 4: inviting that why would you want to go and spend
- 22:26Speaker 4: all of that money at a stadium just to get in,
- 22:30Speaker 4: and then all of that money on the food when
- 22:32Speaker 4: you're in the stadium, and then all of that money
- 22:34Speaker 4: on the beverages, adult or otherwise, when you're in the stadium,
- 22:38Speaker 4: to when you can just do that at home.
- 22:40Speaker 9: You know, my favorite, I guess, type of game, it
- 22:44Speaker 9: started to be the Thursday night games.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Yes.
- 22:46Speaker 9: Because on Amazon Prime, I forget exactly what it's called.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Prime Vision.
- 22:51Speaker 9: They have Prime Vision. That's what it's called.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 22:53Speaker 9: It's like an AI depth into it.
- 22:55Speaker 4: You get so much information. Oh, I love Prime Vision.
- 22:59Speaker 10: Yes.
- 23:00Speaker 9: And then, I mean, to your point with camera views,
- 23:02Speaker 9: you know, I mean, you can, where else can you
- 23:05Speaker 9: see inside the huddle?
- 23:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 23:07Speaker 14: That well, and, and we're, we're designed like that right now.
- 23:10Speaker 5: We have access to so many different things at literally
- 23:14Speaker 5: in the palm of our hands. So when you are
- 23:16Speaker 5: sitting there and you're like, wait, I, I, all I
- 23:18Speaker 5: get is the replay.
- 23:20Speaker 7: Whereas like, I want to be able.
- 23:21Speaker 4: To wait on the replay and it's only one angle. Like,
- 23:24Speaker 4: what are we doing? What are we?
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Uh, what is this first world problem that I'm having
- 23:28Speaker 7: right now?
- 23:29Speaker 9: And then on TV, you have your, pylon can yeah
- 23:31Speaker 9: you have your first down cams you have so many
- 23:33Speaker 9: different cams that it's all given to you.
- 23:36Speaker 4: They have done, the NFL has done such a good
- 23:38Speaker 4: job with the television experience. It's hard to even want
- 23:42Speaker 4: to think about going to a game and dealing with
- 23:45Speaker 4: all of the hassles that go into that.
- 23:46Speaker 7: I wish I had enough money to have that, like,
- 23:48Speaker 7: be like, oh, I can just, I'm.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Just going to drive up to Houston or Dallas and
- 23:52Speaker 5: just go to the game because.
- 23:54Speaker 4: Absolutely. We're going to take a break. Come back here

- 28:58Speaker 4: Radio 1150 AM, The Zone 937 FM. And I have
- 29:01Speaker 4: been a bad guest host because I have forgotten Chip's contest.
- 29:09Speaker 9: All right, so I guess I'll do it for everybody.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 29:14Speaker 9: So don't forget about the Fearless, Friday's Fearless Football Contest.

- 29:59Speaker 4: everybody in the community. What are the prizes?
- 30:05Speaker 9: We get weekly prizes for whoever scores the most points.
- 30:09Speaker 9: And then at the end of the season, Chip has
- 30:12Speaker 9: a trophy. And the winner of the end of the
- 30:13Speaker 9: season total points gets to have their name engraved on
- 30:16Speaker 9: his trophy.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Wow. On the trophy. See, that is the bragging rights
- 30:21Speaker 4: of all bragging rights right there to be able to
- 30:24Speaker 4: do that.
- 30:25Speaker 9: And you get the trophy for one day, and then
- 30:27Speaker 9: you've got to give it back.
- 30:29Speaker 4: But, I mean, the amount of pictures I'd be taking
- 30:31Speaker 4: with that, it's not even funny.
- 30:33Speaker 9: I'd be like Kobe after the finals.
- 30:34Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Just hugging onto it, not letting it go. But yes,
- 30:40Speaker 4: it is so much fun. You get the bragging rights
- 30:42Speaker 4: to be able to do that. And yeah, see if
- 30:45Speaker 4: you can outpick everybody here in the community because I
- 30:49Speaker 4: know so many people get involved in that. It is
- 30:52Speaker 4: a whole lot of fun. Kyle, you do a lot
- 30:54Speaker 4: of bragging.
- 30:55Speaker 9: Picking.
- 30:55Speaker 4: I'm not going to say you do any betting yet.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Here and there.
- 31:00Speaker 7: What mom doesn't know won't do.
- 31:03Speaker 4: What mom doesn't know is what's tied to her card. Exactly.
- 31:06Speaker 4: How's your price picks doing? We don't talk about it. Oh, again,
- 31:14Speaker 4: Chip Howard, Sports Talk on Sports Radio, 1150 AM in
- 31:17Speaker 4: the Zone, 937 FM. We appreciate everybody listening as you
- 31:20Speaker 4: were trying to make your way home here on Highway 6.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Looks like it's, no, no, it's not. Never mind. I
- 31:27Speaker 4: was trying to look back out here at the fifth
- 31:30Speaker 4: floor of Crystal Park Plaza, but no, it is not
- 31:32Speaker 4: getting better, at least not northbound. Here, going southbound, looks
- 31:35Speaker 4: like it's broken up just a little bit. as people
- 31:38Speaker 4: are making their way home. Huge college football weekend again,
- 31:44Speaker 4: and Lane Kiffin is on his way back to Ole Miss,
- 31:49Speaker 4: and if you've been under a rock for the last year,
- 31:54Speaker 4: you would be the only person to not know that
- 31:56Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin last year was the head football coach at
- 31:59Speaker 4: Ole Miss until he decided to leave Ole Miss and
- 32:02Speaker 4: then go to LSU, and now he's there. I get
- 32:08Speaker 4: to talk to you, Carla, about this because so many things,
- 32:11Speaker 4: it is a TV show. I'm sure this schedule has
- 32:14Speaker 4: been somewhat thought about, but there's zero chance that the
- 32:17Speaker 4: people in the SEC office were not looking at this
- 32:20Speaker 4: and being like, we are going to send him all
- 32:22Speaker 4: the way back to Ole Miss for his very first
- 32:23Speaker 4: SEC game. this early in the season. And like, yeah,
- 32:30Speaker 4: it is going to be a madhouse there.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Somebody up there watches Real Housewives of every, and they said,
- 32:36Speaker 5: let's do this like a Bravo TV production and let's go.
- 32:39Speaker 4: But you know what?
- 32:39Speaker 7: You deserve it. Own that, right?
- 32:41Speaker 12: Right.
- 32:42Speaker 9: You heard of that, that they have to get extra
- 32:44Speaker 9: police officers. That's not going to work. They have to
- 32:46Speaker 9: call the National Guard.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Are we sure it's.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Not like female stripper cops?
- 32:51Speaker 4: Only for Lane.
- 32:53Speaker 9: Only for Lane.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Only for Jimmy Freshwaters. But no, like that is– and
- 33:02Speaker 4: one of the things that Jared and I talk about
- 33:04Speaker 4: all the time is the– again, the business of sports
- 33:08Speaker 4: and how college– Coaches can pick up and leave whenever
- 33:12Speaker 4: they want, but now even with the safe sports, we're
- 33:14Speaker 4: not going to get into that that much this time,
- 33:16Speaker 4: but trying to limit what the athletes are able to get.
- 33:20Speaker 4: But in this case, yeah, he packed up before the
- 33:23Speaker 4: season was over, and as Ole Miss was pushing forward
- 33:27Speaker 4: and trying to actually win the national title, he's not
- 33:31Speaker 4: even there. And so, yeah, they are... I cannot imagine...
- 33:37Speaker 4: what it is going to be like an ox, like I, yeah, there's,
- 33:41Speaker 4: so one quick story. So I was not on the
- 33:45Speaker 4: basketball team at the, here at A & M the
- 33:49Speaker 4: year that we got into this huge fight at tech
- 33:53Speaker 4: at the end of like punches thrown people being ejected.
- 33:55Speaker 4: So the year before that, Was the year of the fight.
- 33:59Speaker 4: I was on the team the next year when we
- 34:02Speaker 4: went back to Lubbock. And that first game back in
- 34:06Speaker 4: Lubbock was ridiculous. And we didn't have to have that,
- 34:11Speaker 4: but we were like, yeah, police escort in with the buses.
- 34:13Speaker 7: Tech is totally classy, so I don't know.
- 34:15Speaker 4: What you're... There was nothing to be worried about.
- 34:17Speaker 7: Did you have to sharpen your elbows?
- 34:18Speaker 4: Nothing to be worried about when you go into Lubbock.
- 34:21Speaker 9: No, everyone in Lubbock's an outstanding team. Just tortillas, that's
- 34:24Speaker 9: all you've got to worry about.
- 34:25Speaker 4: That is all you have to worry about is tortillas,
- 34:27Speaker 4: not batteries. Like gluten.
- 34:29Speaker 7: No, don't do the flour. Okay, so you went back,
- 34:31Speaker 7: and you had to be like.
- 34:33Speaker 4: We were the first team back into Lubbock, and I took, like,
- 34:37Speaker 4: it was... I mean, yeah. And it's one of the
- 34:39Speaker 4: times where they have the conversation with you. Like you
- 34:41Speaker 4: just stay with, like stay in the team. Stay like, don't,
- 34:44Speaker 4: not that you wander off any, but like, yeah, you
- 34:46Speaker 4: stay like, close to the, like close to the middle
- 34:49Speaker 4: of the court, even doing warmups. Like, yeah, it was,
- 34:52Speaker 4: so I cannot imagine. Cause, and that was back in the,
- 34:56Speaker 4: I'm going to date myself again. Yes, Kyle. Back in
- 34:58Speaker 4: the old Southwest conference days for basketball. And that wasn't
- 35:01Speaker 4: necessarily the bigger thing is SEC football is right now.
- 35:05Speaker 4: And you left one school as, and turn them kind
- 35:09Speaker 4: of in, like turn their program around some, and you
- 35:12Speaker 4: go to a very hated rival in LSU and, And
- 35:16Speaker 4: now you're on your way back.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Like I just, I also think there's like, I'm, and
- 35:20Speaker 5: I'm not trying to go down like a slippery slope,
- 35:22Speaker 5: but like, but, people have something to prove with social media.
- 35:27Speaker 5: So as you're talking about you as a player at tech,
- 35:30Speaker 5: like stay in the middle of the court, don't, don't.
- 35:32Speaker 7: Make it too easy for crazy.
- 35:34Speaker 5: People to have access to you. I think the, the
- 35:37Speaker 5: prevalence of cell phones and it's like, Ooh, I want
- 35:39Speaker 5: to make a name for myself and go do something
- 35:41Speaker 5: wacky at this game.
- 35:43Speaker 7: Exactly. Exactly.
- 35:45Speaker 9: Literally.
- 35:45Speaker 5: And so I just, it adds that layer of, okay,
- 35:48Speaker 5: this is already a tense, crazy situation.
- 35:50Speaker 7: Now what do I do to get TikTok famous?
- 35:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:53Speaker 9: What I'm wondering is how are they going to prevent
- 35:55Speaker 9: stuff getting thrown?
- 35:59Speaker 7: Other than panties. I'm sorry. Can I say that? Too late.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Oh, okay. I mean, we all know the stories of
- 36:08Speaker 4: Jimmy first, but yeah, I don't, I don't know other than,
- 36:11Speaker 4: and it goes back to even the, the Texas game
- 36:13Speaker 4: last year, like the, the, the other fans in that
- 36:18Speaker 4: stadium are the only ones that can, can prevent that.
- 36:21Speaker 4: And you have to call out the people when you
- 36:23Speaker 4: see them throwing stuff and On the field, like the
- 36:26Speaker 4: officials aren't going to be the game officials aren't going
- 36:29Speaker 4: to be able to do anything. And unless the other
- 36:32Speaker 4: fans in the stadium are pointing those people out to
- 36:34Speaker 4: let law enforcement get involved, there's nothing that you can
- 36:37Speaker 4: do about it. Like, again, going back to Lubbock, you
- 36:40Speaker 4: can't stop people from throwing. a battery-laced tortilla out on
- 36:44Speaker 4: the field.
- 36:44Speaker 7: A battery-laced tortilla. And, I mean, we know that fines
- 36:48Speaker 7: don't work, right?
- 36:49Speaker 12: No.
- 36:49Speaker 7: Like, there's the threat of, we're going to fine your school,
- 36:51Speaker 7: and we're going to do this and that.
- 36:52Speaker 12: Well, they don't care.
- 36:52Speaker 9: Whenever you're in SEC school, and you're like, oh, we're
- 36:55Speaker 9: going to fine you $ 110, 000.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Okay.
- 36:57Speaker 5: And then you have, like, a booster or somebody who's like, no.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I tripped over that on my way in. Here's your
- 37:05Speaker 4: fine right there.
- 37:05Speaker 9: Yeah, we just made that in revenue for this one
- 37:07Speaker 9: game only.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:08Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Yeah, so see something, say something.
- 37:12Speaker 4: Well, yeah, that's going to be the other thing that
- 37:13Speaker 4: I saw is the amount of dollars that are being
- 37:19Speaker 4: charged either for hotels in Oxford and the surrounding cities
- 37:24Speaker 4: or the Airbnbs. It wasn't La Quinta. It was a
- 37:28Speaker 4: Hampton Inn in Oxford was charging $ 5, 000 a night. Oh,
- 37:32Speaker 4: a night.
- 37:34Speaker 15: A night.
- 37:34Speaker 9: And then those hotels like they do at the Masters
- 37:37Speaker 9: for Augusta National. I know for Augusta, they make it
- 37:41Speaker 9: to where you can't just do it one day.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Oh, we do that here. We do that here. Like,
- 37:45Speaker 4: it's two nine minutes even here in town for A
- 37:47Speaker 4: & M games. But, yeah, it is, yeah, $ 5, 000 a night.
- 37:52Speaker 4: There was an Airbnb, and it was basically a one-bedroom
- 37:56Speaker 4: condo that was going for $ 8, 000 a night on the Airbnb.
- 38:00Speaker 4: And people are paying it for this game.
- 38:02Speaker 7: They got money. They got time. They got money.
- 38:05Speaker 4: And, I mean, yeah, but that's just how crazy it is.
- 38:08Speaker 4: this particular game is going to be for that. Like,
- 38:12Speaker 4: I cannot, I can't imagine, but I cannot imagine what
- 38:15Speaker 4: that town is going to be like. And, I mean, again,
- 38:19Speaker 4: we are not that big of a community, but, I mean,
- 38:24Speaker 4: we're bigger than most of the other SEC college towns
- 38:27Speaker 4: that are around. And so you're going to pack all
- 38:31Speaker 4: of that into a tight little, Powder keg. And yeah,
- 38:35Speaker 4: it's going to be crazy there.
- 38:36Speaker 5: I'm going to look for the Waffle House reels and
- 38:39Speaker 5: videos on TikTok.
- 38:41Speaker 7: Y'all act right.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Don't go in there acting brand new. Well, people in
- 38:45Speaker 4: LSU know what a Waffle House is. So I was
- 38:48Speaker 4: going to say, if they were coming from anywhere else,
- 38:51Speaker 4: don't walk in a Waffle House not knowing how to
- 38:53Speaker 4: behave yourself. People in LSU– yeah, people from Louisiana know
- 38:56Speaker 4: what a Waffle House is, so they're not going to
- 38:58Speaker 4: walk in– they're going to walk in– they will act
- 39:00Speaker 4: more crazy at the football stadium than they would walking
- 39:02Speaker 4: into a Waffle House.
- 39:03Speaker 5: So one of my favorite things that Kyle did– I
- 39:06Speaker 5: have always taken Kyle everywhere, and we have Aggie Game Day,
- 39:10Speaker 5: of course, our KBTX sports team. We used to pass
- 39:14Speaker 5: out howdy buttons, and the first year LSU came here,
- 39:18Speaker 5: Kyle was kind of like a grade schooler, and he
- 39:20Speaker 5: was very sweet.
- 39:21Speaker 7: He– Spots these LSU fans and.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Overalls, you know, they look like they uh are uh
- 39:27Speaker 5: the water boys uh uncles i don't know foosball and
- 39:33Speaker 5: my sweet little boy just goes up and like sticks
- 39:36Speaker 5: this howdy button on them that obviously is very much
- 39:39Speaker 5: like you were rooting for texas a & m and
- 39:41Speaker 5: he looks at them and they're like they were very
- 39:43Speaker 5: kind thank god because otherwise i would have you know
- 39:45Speaker 5: you would have.
- 39:45Speaker 7: Seen me on uh A & M Twitter. The police Twitter.
- 39:49Speaker 7: But they were like, no, thank you. And he's just, like,
- 39:52Speaker 7: staring at them.
- 39:52Speaker 4: You're going to take this.
- 39:53Speaker 7: Yeah, he's like, you're going to take this. And I
- 39:54Speaker 7: was like, good boy.
- 39:57Speaker 5: We'll get you Chicken McNuggets on the way home. Because
- 39:59Speaker 5: that was just, it was just fun. And I was
- 40:00Speaker 5: very thankful.
- 40:01Speaker 7: But, yeah, so.
- 40:03Speaker 4: Not a lot of fun. I mean, yeah, that's going
- 40:05Speaker 4: to be the biggest game. Our Aggies are taking on
- 40:07Speaker 4: Kentucky at 2.30. 2.30. I mean, that's, I don't know.
- 40:12Speaker 4: It's like, it's just. We saw the reports from last
- 40:15Speaker 4: week of just how miserable that game was, and I
- 40:20Speaker 4: can only imagine that this is going to be equally
- 40:24Speaker 4: as bad, even though it's a 2-30 start. But, like, yeah, it's...
- 40:28Speaker 4: so unbelievably hot for mid-September.
- 40:31Speaker 7: It really is.
- 40:32Speaker 5: And it's hard to, it's not the same, right? People say, well,
- 40:35Speaker 5: we've always done this and it's always been like this.
- 40:37Speaker 7: Let's be honest. It just, it feels like you can't
- 40:39Speaker 7: get a break, right?
- 40:40Speaker 5: It doesn't cool enough overnight where you feel like there's
- 40:42Speaker 5: some relief and you're just sitting out there in this,
- 40:47Speaker 5: just this heat. And one of our good friends is
- 40:49Speaker 5: the official meteorologist for A & M. And of course
- 40:52Speaker 5: he's in there kind of emergency operations center.
- 40:54Speaker 4: He's in the bunker.
- 40:55Speaker 5: Yeah, and he kept texting me this weekend and a
- 40:59Speaker 5: group of us and was like, you guys might want
- 41:01Speaker 5: to check on heat-related issues because we're hearing that people are.
- 41:05Speaker 7: And I don't think it's anybody being irresponsible.
- 41:07Speaker 14: No.
- 41:07Speaker 7: I think it just sneaks up on you and hits
- 41:09Speaker 7: you and.
- 41:11Speaker 4: So my daughter, Logan, she's here. She decided to take
- 41:16Speaker 4: me to the game with her last weekend. And so
- 41:19Speaker 4: we went and like within 10 minutes. So we went
- 41:23Speaker 4: into the cool zone and this was early in the
- 41:26Speaker 4: first quarter and so quickly and like there weren't that
- 41:29Speaker 4: many people in there and like within 10 minutes. The
- 41:32Speaker 4: cool zone on that day was just packed, and people
- 41:35Speaker 4: were just sitting there. So all that to say, hopefully
- 41:39Speaker 4: the Aggies do well against Kentucky, but everybody needs to
- 41:42Speaker 4: make sure to take care of themselves.
- 41:44Speaker 9: Yeah, I went last weekend as well with my mom
- 41:46Speaker 9: and stepdad, and we had to do the cool zone.
- 41:49Speaker 9: And what we forgot about is that you can have
- 41:51Speaker 9: one– Closed water bottle entering in. And I saw people
- 41:55Speaker 9: bringing jugs. And they were allowing it. That's one thing
- 41:58Speaker 9: that I forgot.
- 41:59Speaker 4: You have to in those situations. People were absolutely just
- 42:02Speaker 4: following out. We're going to take our last break here
- 42:05Speaker 4: of the show. See, I told you, it goes by quickly.
- 42:08Speaker 7: When you're talking about sports.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Sports.
- 42:11Speaker 17: Sports.
- 42:12Speaker 4: Only sports. We'll be back in just a second. You're
- 42:14Speaker 4: listening to Chip Howard Sports Talk on Sports Radio, 1150 AM.
- 42:16Speaker 4: This is K37 FM.
- 42:18Speaker 15: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 42:20Speaker 15: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around, and then
- 42:22Speaker 15: I found Schulte Roofing, and boy, I'm glad I did.
- 42:25Speaker 15: The folks at Schulte guided me every step of the way.
- 42:28Speaker 15: They showed me my options. They told me what my
- 42:30Speaker 15: out-of-pocket cost would be after insurance. They took the complication
- 42:34Speaker 15: out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They took off
- 42:37Speaker 15: the damaged roof, put on the new roof, did all
- 42:39Speaker 15: the cleanup, and I had my new roof in one day.
- 42:42Speaker 10: Schulte Roofing, the home of the bulletproof roof.
- 42:49Speaker 18: I'm Judd Nelson with your Texas Rangers report. Even though
- 42:51Speaker 18: the bullpen started early, the Rangers used run support for
- 42:54Speaker 18: the win over Boston. Details coming up.
- 42:57Speaker 8: Here's business analyst David Johnson.
- 42:59Speaker 12: Barcodes, you see them everywhere, on every store shelf, every
- 43:02Speaker 12: product you touch. But in business, a barcode isn't just
- 43:05Speaker 12: a label. It's the heartbeat of your operation. So when
- 43:07Speaker 12: you're ready to streamline and automate your company, who do
- 43:10Speaker 12: you call? Texas Barcode Systems. They've been the industry-leading supplier

- 43:25Speaker 17: Local experts, national standards.
- 43:27Speaker 18: The Texas Rangers used the solution, a.k.a. Ezekiel Duran, to
- 43:31Speaker 18: get their fourth straight win in Game 2 against Boston,
- 43:33Speaker 18: the final score 6-3. Boston wasted no time getting on
- 43:37Speaker 18: the board with a two-run homer in the opening frame.
- 43:39Speaker 18: Texas responded with an RBI single from Jake Berger in
- 43:42Speaker 18: the same inning to cut the lead in half. Justin
- 43:44Speaker 18: Foskey would drive in the tying run, but only until
- 43:47Speaker 18: Bossen earned a run off the balk from Jacob Yunus.
- 43:49Speaker 18: With the game tied at three, Ezekiel Duran would open
- 43:51Speaker 18: things up for Texas.
- 43:53Speaker 16: Comes home with the 1-1. Line drive, left field, base hit.
- 43:57Speaker 16: Berger is home. Nimmo rounding third. The throw is offline.
- 44:01Speaker 16: Nimmo scores standing up. Two-run single for Ezekiel Duran, and
- 44:06Speaker 16: the Rangers lead 6-3.
- 44:09Speaker 18: Nathan Evaldi would pitch as a reliever and pick up
- 44:11Speaker 18: his 11th win of the season. Texas goes for the
- 44:13Speaker 18: sweep tonight, first pitch at 7-0-5. With your Texas Rangers report,
- 44:17Speaker 18: I'm Jett Nelson.

- 45:02Speaker 4: Chip Howard Sports Talk, Sports Radio, 1150 AM, The Zone, 93.7 FM.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Jason Cornelius, Carla Castillo in with us. Kyle Stump in
- 45:10Speaker 4: with us also. And this is a very special occasion
- 45:14Speaker 4: for me for the very first time in all of,
- 45:16Speaker 4: I can't believe like in all of the years that
- 45:18Speaker 4: I've been doing this, I've got two of my kids
- 45:21Speaker 4: up here. So Logan is up here with us. And
- 45:23Speaker 4: so is Brayden. Are y'all having a good time so far?
- 45:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 4: So yeah, this has been a lot of fun. They
- 45:30Speaker 4: got a chance to come and hang out with dad
- 45:32Speaker 4: for a little bit and see one of the other
- 45:34Speaker 4: things that I get to do. I was riding in
- 45:37Speaker 4: the car the other day, and I'm sure there are
- 45:38Speaker 4: people that listen to Chip on a regular basis that
- 45:42Speaker 4: have heard, that have now heard me multiple times on YouTube.
- 45:47Speaker 4: on a commercial for the chamber. And so my daughter
- 45:49Speaker 4: got to hear, I was like, dad, that's you. I'm like, yeah, pumpkin.
- 45:51Speaker 4: I get to do this every, every now and then.
- 45:53Speaker 4: So this is a lot of fun to, to have
- 45:56Speaker 4: them up here. Do you like getting a chance to
- 45:57Speaker 4: hear me pumpkin?
- 45:58Speaker 9: Yeah, this is awesome.
- 46:01Speaker 4: So yeah, no, this is, this has been a whole
- 46:04Speaker 4: lot of fun here to today to get a chance to,
- 46:07Speaker 4: to get up here and do this. Have y'all had fun? Brayden,
- 46:10Speaker 4: have you had fun today? No. Okay, well, we'll be
- 46:17Speaker 4: done in just a second. We're going to have to
- 46:18Speaker 4: stop and get them some food. Same.
- 46:20Speaker 7: Wait, where are y'all? Yeah, can I be your child? Wah,
- 46:25Speaker 7: I'm hungry.
- 46:25Speaker 4: Let's get ice cream. Well, there he has it. See,
- 46:27Speaker 4: that's the other thing.
- 46:28Speaker 14: I mean, I really just ate.
- 46:31Speaker 3: You're going to go?
- 46:32Speaker 4: Okay. Okay. He said, I'm done. That's the other thing
- 46:36Speaker 4: that they're going to want to keep coming up here
- 46:38Speaker 4: because we have already had some ice cream as well
- 46:41Speaker 4: here at the studio.
- 46:43Speaker 12: Mr.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Downs always keeps the freezer fully stocked with ice cream
- 46:47Speaker 4: when we're up here. So that is... been just a
- 46:50Speaker 4: great time up here. Have you enjoyed having Kyle up
- 46:53Speaker 4: here with us?
- 46:54Speaker 7: Oh, it is incredible.
- 46:55Speaker 5: I love, um, he, I just love, he's, I, yeah,
- 46:59Speaker 5: you're a great kid. Of course, I'm going to say that, uh, what, what, what, uh,
- 47:04Speaker 5: what do you He's sharing some social media memes and
- 47:08Speaker 5: stuff like that. No, thank you for allowing us to
- 47:10Speaker 5: be here. It's such a special opportunity to get to
- 47:13Speaker 5: do stuff. And that's the great part about... I miss
- 47:18Speaker 5: him being little, but I also love seeing who he's becoming,
- 47:21Speaker 5: what his interests are, and I'm fascinated at the way he...
- 47:25Speaker 5: I'm honestly fascinated at the way y'all just, like, capture
- 47:28Speaker 5: sports stuff. And you can remember, like, the joy as
- 47:31Speaker 5: you guys talk about it.
- 47:32Speaker 7: And so, yeah, thanks.
- 47:35Speaker 5: And Kyle, thank you for being here. I know you
- 47:36Speaker 5: have way cooler things to do than hang out with
- 47:38Speaker 5: your mom.
- 47:39Speaker 4: I mean, I'm having fun. Hearing some of the worst
- 47:44Speaker 4: stories of your mom talking about how hot she was
- 47:46Speaker 4: when she was.
- 47:48Speaker 7: You wouldn't be here if someone didn't think i was
- 47:50Speaker 7: hot i.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Don't like thinking about.
- 47:55Speaker 9: It please don't let me have to dump sports.
- 47:59Speaker 5: No that was that was the the end of it
- 48:01Speaker 5: no it is it is really neat uh And we
- 48:03Speaker 5: live in a community where sports is obviously with like
- 48:06Speaker 5: A & M.
- 48:06Speaker 7: I love that he gets to play sports.
- 48:08Speaker 5: And we've got, you know, whether you're North Texas or
- 48:11Speaker 5: the Houston area, you've got different sports teams here to follow.
- 48:14Speaker 5: And of course, there's the California connection. So it's a
- 48:17Speaker 5: little bit of a little bit of everything. Sports is incredible.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Sports are incredible. Going back to what we were talking
- 48:23Speaker 4: about earlier, whether it is the connection of being in
- 48:28Speaker 4: school and that additional hook to keep you in school.
- 48:32Speaker 4: And I tell people, I was lucky that I got
- 48:38Speaker 4: very good grades in school when I was there. And
- 48:40Speaker 4: y'all better make sure you do. God bless. But no,
- 48:44Speaker 4: that I got good grades in school. But the other
- 48:46Speaker 4: reason why I got good grades in school is because
- 48:47Speaker 4: I wanted to play sports. And so there is that
- 48:51Speaker 4: connection with that. Then you and I were talking about
- 48:53Speaker 4: the economic connection of what sports can and will do.
- 48:57Speaker 4: And it's not just tied to the high schools. There
- 49:00Speaker 4: is now the Yard Dogs. There are the Bombers still.
- 49:02Speaker 4: There is Legends. There is all the stuff that's going
- 49:05Speaker 4: on with A & M. So, yeah, there are just
- 49:07Speaker 4: so many things that are tied with this. And I
- 49:11Speaker 4: get to come up here and play radio and talk sports.
- 49:13Speaker 4: It's so much fun to be able to do stuff
- 49:16Speaker 4: like this.
- 49:17Speaker 11: Stop, guys.
- 49:17Speaker 4: And so, yeah, those are those are the things that
- 49:20Speaker 4: I get you don't recognize how again those ripple effects
- 49:23Speaker 4: of what sports actually does and again this one over
- 49:26Speaker 4: here Logan plays like nine trillion sports to be able
- 49:29Speaker 4: to keep it how many sports do you play pumpkin
- 49:34Speaker 4: never to think about it for a second now softball
- 49:38Speaker 4: soccer soccer Basketball.
- 49:41Speaker 9: And I think that's it.
- 49:42Speaker 4: And those are the only three? You don't consider dance
- 49:45Speaker 4: a sport?
- 49:47Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 49:48Speaker 4: That's my daughter. It's just something that I do.
- 49:53Speaker 15: It is fun.
- 49:55Speaker 5: And I like when you have had the opportunity to
- 49:58Speaker 5: take her to see... The pregame with Coach Taylor and
- 50:02Speaker 5: all that stuff. And listen, as someone who wanted to
- 50:05Speaker 5: go into sports journalism, but it's also nice to see
- 50:08Speaker 5: strong female role models in whatever the case may be,
- 50:11Speaker 5: whether it's the athletes, whether it's the coach. And I
- 50:14Speaker 5: love that you were exposing her to that. Yeah, because
- 50:18Speaker 5: we need positive role models.
- 50:21Speaker 4: I am very lucky that, and you and I have
- 50:24Speaker 4: had this conversation a lot when it comes to what
- 50:28Speaker 4: I think my role is in journalism, but I know
- 50:32Speaker 4: that I am very lucky that I do take it
- 50:35Speaker 4: seriously enough and I have been respected enough in what
- 50:39Speaker 4: I do that, yeah, I can bring my daughter along
- 50:42Speaker 4: when it comes to doing those interviews and going to
- 50:44Speaker 4: the pregame stuff like that. So it is... a lot,
- 50:47Speaker 4: a whole lot of fun. So I am very, very
- 50:50Speaker 4: grateful for, for all of the things that, that again,
- 50:52Speaker 4: going back to sports and the doors that it can
- 50:57Speaker 4: open for you that you never realize are going to
- 50:59Speaker 4: be there. So yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 15: Yeah, no.
- 51:01Speaker 14: And, and I, I like that.
- 51:02Speaker 7: I've had to tell you, you are a sports journalist.
- 51:05Speaker 5: You are because you care, right? You, you, you care
- 51:08Speaker 5: about it. You understand it. And I've always been fascinated by, uh,
- 51:12Speaker 5: athletes and former athletes who can bring that perspective, right?
- 51:15Speaker 7: You have a, you played for Texas.
- 51:17Speaker 5: A & M, whether it's female or men's team, you
- 51:20Speaker 5: know what it's like to be.
- 51:21Speaker 7: On that court and in those situations, things like that.
- 51:24Speaker 7: And so that offered, that's a unique perspective.
- 51:26Speaker 4: But the other side of that is like recognizing I
- 51:28Speaker 4: did not go to school for journalism. But I want
- 51:31Speaker 4: to make– I do take it seriously enough to where
- 51:34Speaker 4: I do want to earn the respect of my friends
- 51:37Speaker 4: that are actually true, full-time, it's your daytime job journalists.
- 51:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I can't be a banker. You don't want me
- 51:46Speaker 7: to be your banker. Be like, sure, unlimited money.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Here you go.
- 51:50Speaker 10: Let's go.
- 51:50Speaker 4: It is definitely not unlimited money.
- 51:52Speaker 7: You promise to give it back?
- 51:53Speaker 6: Okay, good.
- 51:54Speaker 4: But it's funny, like, and I'm sure you're not going
- 51:56Speaker 4: to like this much, but yeah, people's like, when I,
- 51:58Speaker 4: when I tell people like, Oh, you should do radio
- 52:00Speaker 4: full time. And I'm like, radio does not pay enough.
- 52:05Speaker 7: He's got two children here. He's got another one at
- 52:07Speaker 7: home and they're still growing.
- 52:08Speaker 4: And he's, he's in Wesley, my old, yeah, he's over
- 52:11Speaker 4: my shoulder now and eat. He's a bottomless pit of.
- 52:14Speaker 7: Now is not the time for you to do, you know, your, your.
- 52:17Speaker 4: My passion, my passion project. No, no, no.
- 52:21Speaker 7: Unless you like win a ton of money and.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Uh, That is when I will be able to do that.
- 52:26Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 52:27Speaker 7: And then even then, you know, make sure that... Yeah, no.
- 52:30Speaker 4: Journalism.
- 52:31Speaker 7: It's great. Sports.
- 52:34Speaker 4: We talk sports. Only sports.
- 52:36Speaker 7: Kyle, are you good? Are you regretting that your mother
- 52:39Speaker 7: is so chatty?
- 52:40Speaker 15: No.
- 52:42Speaker 4: He's used to it now. That's true. Okay, so how
- 52:44Speaker 4: long have you been.
- 52:46Speaker 7: At KPTX, more than 17 years.
- 52:50Speaker 4: See, so yeah, he's used to this.
- 52:53Speaker 7: But, you know, there are guidelines.
- 52:55Speaker 9: How'd you get into it?
- 52:57Speaker 10: So....
- 52:59Speaker 7: I just really, I've always been really curious.
- 53:02Speaker 5: I like, I've always liked writing and I like being,
- 53:05Speaker 5: having the opportunity to be nosy.
- 53:07Speaker 7: I've always just wanted to question things.
- 53:08Speaker 13: Right.
- 53:09Speaker 5: And originally I did want to be a sports reporter,
- 53:11Speaker 5: but sports reporting was even different back in the day.
- 53:14Speaker 5: This was before you were able to do more of the,
- 53:17Speaker 5: back then, you know, in the 1900s, it was stats
- 53:20Speaker 5: and it was highlights and it was things like that.
- 53:22Speaker 7: And it's expanded and it's grown so much. Um, I
- 53:25Speaker 7: eventually went.
- 53:26Speaker 5: To news because sports is great, but obviously it's evenings
- 53:30Speaker 5: and weekends and things like that.
- 53:32Speaker 7: And I thought, okay, how do I balance that with
- 53:33Speaker 7: a family?
- 53:34Speaker 5: But in my attention span, in my brain, I love
- 53:37Speaker 5: learning about everything. So it's just the curiosity level and
- 53:41Speaker 5: the video component because there's obviously radio and there's newspaper,
- 53:45Speaker 5: things like that.
- 53:45Speaker 7: But I loved when I started.
- 53:47Speaker 5: I was going out, shooting my own video, editing my
- 53:50Speaker 5: own video, things like that, just kind of being able
- 53:52Speaker 5: to be creative while telling stories. Of a serious or
- 53:55Speaker 5: a straightforward story.
- 53:57Speaker 4: Well, as I mentioned, this goes by so very quickly,
- 54:00Speaker 4: and we have made it to the end of today's show.
