- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot brek dot org. We have breaking
- 0:29Speaker 1: news from Adam Schefter. The New Orleans Saints and Chris
- 0:40Speaker 1: Olave have agreed to a contract extension. And I'm in
- 0:47Speaker 1: no way surprised because it is absolutely what I've said
- 0:52Speaker 1: it was going to be all along. But I am
- 0:56Speaker 1: very disappointed because I was right. It's exactly what I
- 1:01Speaker 1: said it was going to be all along. The Saints
- 1:03Speaker 1: have signed Chris A Lave to a four year extension
- 1:08Speaker 1: worth up to one hundred and thirty two million dollars,
- 1:11Speaker 1: with ninety million of it guaranteed. Chris A. Lave is
- 1:17Speaker 1: represented by the Rosenhouses. When you look at that average
- 1:23Speaker 1: annual value, that's about thirty three million dollars per year,
- 1:30Speaker 1: which means only Jackson Smith and Jigba Jamar Chase, Drake London,
- 1:35Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson, and Ceedee Lamb will make more money on
- 1:39Speaker 1: an average annual basis than Chris a Lave. The Saints
- 1:42Speaker 1: just paid Chris a Lave effectively like the sixth highest
- 1:46Speaker 1: paid receiver in the NFL. To me, that is not smart.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And as we've talked about a Lave all off season
- 1:58Speaker 1: and this contract, I really I wish we had this
- 2:04Speaker 1: clip pulled him. Have to grab it another time. But
- 2:07Speaker 1: we've talked about it all throughout the offseason, and two
- 2:12Speaker 1: things can be true at the same time. This is
- 2:14Speaker 1: the part that so often when we had this conversation
- 2:18Speaker 1: people miss because they think I'm attacking Chris Olive or
- 2:21Speaker 1: saying he's not a good player. None of that is true.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I am not attacking Chris Olive. I think he's been
- 2:27Speaker 1: a model teammate. I think the concussions are scary two
- 2:34Speaker 1: years ago, to be perfectly honest with you, but he
- 2:37Speaker 1: had a fully healthy season last year and had a
- 2:40Speaker 1: career year, and good for him. When you're in a
- 2:43Speaker 1: contract year and you have a career year, you're generally
- 2:46Speaker 1: going to cash in awesome fire it up for him.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I look at it through the prism, however, of how
- 2:54Speaker 1: good is this player relative to the position in the NFL,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and how do you pay them accordingly? And Chris Alave,
- 3:01Speaker 1: as I've said over and over and we have backed
- 3:04Speaker 1: it up with all the data and all the metrics,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Chris Olave is a bottom tier starter in the NFL,
- 3:14Speaker 1: maybe a mid tier number one, but he would be
- 3:18Speaker 1: like the best number two in the NFL. The New
- 3:22Speaker 1: Orleans Saints just used a top ten pick on a
- 3:26Speaker 1: wide receiver if they felt Chris Lave was the game breaker.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You don't go use a top ten pick on a receiver.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They drafted three receivers this year, and I understand that
- 3:40Speaker 1: other contracts get done and that continuously resets the market.
- 3:45Speaker 1: The Falcons paying Drake London one hundred and forty one
- 3:48Speaker 1: million dollars thirty five million per year resets the market
- 3:52Speaker 1: to an unreasonable number because a Lave has been a
- 3:56Speaker 1: more productive player than Drake London statistically throughout their time
- 4:01Speaker 1: in the NFL. So I'm certain that's what the Rosenhouses
- 4:04Speaker 1: are saying. I just don't like it. I think the
- 4:09Speaker 1: Saints overspent on a guy that is probably a low teens,
- 4:18Speaker 1: high twenties receiver in the NFL, probably somewhere in that range.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus put up their receiver rankings, they had
- 4:28Speaker 1: a Lave twelve. Okay, even if a Lave's twelfth in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the NFL, you're talking about right around, you're talking about
- 4:37Speaker 1: like T Higgins Jalen Waddle range twenty eight million. I
- 4:44Speaker 1: still think that's too much. I think Chris Olave, as
- 4:48Speaker 1: we've said many times, should be in the twenty million
- 4:51Speaker 1: dollar range. I think Chris Olave should be in that
- 4:57Speaker 1: Jerry Judy, Chris Godwin, Devonte Adams, Alvin Ridley, like that,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Christian Watson, that twenty two million dollar echs. I think
- 5:04Speaker 1: the Saints are overpaying by about ten million bucks a year. Now.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It ain't my money, but it is my favorite team,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and they have been notoriously awful with the salary cap,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and I think they did just overpay. I think they
- 5:16Speaker 1: just paid a lower tier number one or elite level
- 5:22Speaker 1: number two, like an elite level number one. I mean
- 5:26Speaker 1: he on an average annual basis. The only receivers in
- 5:28Speaker 1: the NFL that will be making more per year than
- 5:31Speaker 1: Chris Olave are Jackson Smith and Jigba Jamar, Chase Drake London,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson, Cedde Lamb. That's it. Chris Alave will be
- 5:39Speaker 1: pay making more than DK Metcalf, Garrett Wilson, Tera McLaurin, A. J. Brown,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Amanas Saint Brown, Brandon, au T Higgins. I mean, go
- 5:47Speaker 1: down the list, and if I ask you the question,
- 5:50Speaker 1: if I gave you DK Metcalf or Chris Alave, who
- 5:54Speaker 1: would you take? You know the answer. If I said, hey,
- 5:58Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson or Chris Alave, you know the answer. That's
- 6:02Speaker 1: the problem I have. And it's illustrated even further by
- 6:06Speaker 1: the fact that they used the ninth pick on a receiver.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I mean, you drafted franchise left tackles each of the
- 6:20Speaker 1: last two years. You weren't going in free agency to
- 6:23Speaker 1: spend on a left tackle. You paid Chase Young like
- 6:31Speaker 1: a number one edge rusher. You didn't go into the
- 6:34Speaker 1: draft to pick a number one edge rusher. So again,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm not surprised. This is what we said was gonna
- 6:43Speaker 1: happen all off season. They were gonna pay him like
- 6:45Speaker 1: a top five receiver in the NFL. The market had
- 6:48Speaker 1: been set. They're validating their decision to draft him and
- 6:51Speaker 1: keep him and all this sort of stuff, and he's
- 6:53Speaker 1: a good productive player. He also this past season, Chris
- 6:56Speaker 1: Olave was a volume receiver. He was he had a
- 7:00Speaker 1: career year, but he was also playing in a receiver
- 7:04Speaker 1: room that was featuring Samari Torre and I you know,
- 7:15Speaker 1: de Von Velay until he got hurt and Ronnie Bell. Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: throw it to twelve. You used the first round pick
- 7:22Speaker 1: on him. He's the only guy you got. Force the
- 7:24Speaker 1: ball to twelve. Well, this year, I don't think it's
- 7:27Speaker 1: gonna be a bullet prediction. Chris Olave's production is gonna
- 7:31Speaker 1: drop because you've got Jordan Tyson, and you've got Devon
- 7:34Speaker 1: Velea coming off of injury, and you got Jalen Polk
- 7:37Speaker 1: there as well, And you drafted Barry and Brown, and
- 7:40Speaker 1: you drafted Bryce Lance, and you've drafted Oscar delp and
- 7:44Speaker 1: you brought in Noah Fans, and you've got Juwan Johnson
- 7:47Speaker 1: like all of us, and you've got Travis Achen and
- 7:49Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara's back all of a sudden, you got toys everywhere,
- 7:53Speaker 1: so you don't have to keep forcing the ball to twelve.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I like Chris Olave again, like this is not a
- 8:00Speaker 1: knock on Chris Lave. I think Chris Alave deserves to
- 8:02Speaker 1: be paid. I think Chris Alave is a really good player.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think Chris Alave has been a great teammate and
- 8:09Speaker 1: has been good in the culture of New Orleans and
- 8:11Speaker 1: wants to be in New Orleans. And I'm not even
- 8:12Speaker 1: worried about the concussions like a season ago, beaus he
- 8:15Speaker 1: made it through a full season and stayed healthy, which
- 8:19Speaker 1: is awesome and we all want to see. I just
- 8:22Speaker 1: think they overpaid. Two things can be true at the
- 8:24Speaker 1: same time. You can think Chris Lave is great and
- 8:26Speaker 1: you can want him in New Orleans, but you also
- 8:29Speaker 1: have to decide, like what is he worth. It's no
- 8:31Speaker 1: different than a Lante Taylor or Paulson Adebo or any
- 8:34Speaker 1: of the free agents the Saints of watch walk Trey Hendrickson,
- 8:36Speaker 1: because they have to decide who they're going to pay,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and in my opinion, they overpaid for Chris Alave. Hope
- 8:42Speaker 1: I'm wrong. I hope he goes out and has four
- 8:44Speaker 1: All Pro receivers and becomes the best receiver in the NFL.
- 8:47Speaker 1: But I think they just overpaid for a guy that
- 8:50Speaker 1: is probably an elite, elite, elite level number two, a
- 8:54Speaker 1: good number one, an elite level number two. I think
- 8:56Speaker 1: they just overpaid for him. Tom willtail I him right
- 8:59Speaker 1: or wrong, and I expect all of you to disagree
- 9:01Speaker 1: with me. By the way, I don't expect anybody to
- 9:03Speaker 1: agree with that sentiment. But all any of you are
- 9:05Speaker 1: going to hear, though, is that I think they overpaid
- 9:07Speaker 1: Chris A. Lave. So you're going to think that I
- 9:09Speaker 1: said it. Chris Alave's bad. I've never said that it's
- 9:11Speaker 1: a fantastic football player, an elite football player. He's just
- 9:15Speaker 1: not a top five receiver in the NFL. And I
- 9:17Speaker 1: don't think I'm going out on a limb in saying
- 9:19Speaker 1: that
