- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Hello!
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to MNPK NFL podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Conor Albuquerque, still lost in the arts unknown.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you have run into his family, anybody, you know, any signs of Albuquerque, there's any Diet Coke bottles running, you know, laying around somewhere.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Just try to pick up the scent.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll find them just kidding.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: Training camp updates from Albert coming in our second episode this week But we wanted to tackle the big questions that we all have this time of year, which is got our fantasy football draft coming up So we got our fantasy football expert on the show Michael Fabiano Fab's what's going on
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know that Brewer was a Diet Coke guy.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's like, my friend Sessa, you know, friend Sessa, like, I mean, oh, yeah.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: That dude, I don't think I've ever seen him ever without a diet Coke around him.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, even I remember doing radio real like years ago, right next to him in dog when that show was still around.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, this was a long time ago.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: The Diet Coke was right there, man.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't realize that Brewer was into the Diet Coke as well.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Brear is a man of many habits, creature of many habits.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: One of his favorite things is dining alone, which he may be doing right now.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't want to disturb him, you know?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't he a married man with kids?
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that's why you love dining alone.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Because once you have a meal or I guess like a year's worth of meals where stuff didn't flung at you.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm experiencing this right, day to day basis.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I got three kids.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's just pound and ask for something a nice quiet meal.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: You sit at the bar by yourself.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: They're really something next level about that.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, listen, I mean, see, I'm a single guy with no kids and a dog.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it's normally just me and the dog having meals together.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of time it's the dog trying to eat my meal.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: You guys just wrap back and forth about fantasy football, you know, exactly.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: I've already got all of my dog's name as Kylo after the Star Wars character.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: I've already got all of Kylo's sleepers and bust for this season.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Not to stray too far from the topic, but since you brought it up, my son, who's five, I had never seen any Star Wars movies ever in my life.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so let me, I've outlined this on the pod before, never seen Star Wars, never seen any any of the Jones, never seen Titanic, never seen Jurassic Park.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: I just missed it.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: My parents just never showed it to me.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then I felt like I was too late to the party.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: But when my five-year-old came to me and said, Dad, this is something that I'm really interested in.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we got the Golden Book series of all the, like, the little kid book versions of all the Star Wars books.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I really want to watch it.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, okay, this would be fun thing for us to start together.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm too in.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: We started an episode for, we did episode five.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm locked into this.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I was wondering where this was my entire life.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, I think it's great.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Do yourself a favor, do not watch.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the Force Awakens is okay.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's the next one.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, you've got return of the Jedi is six.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then, and then it goes back.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: So then it goes one, two, three.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: So the fans of menace, you kind of have to watch, but it's, it's not great.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: The dialogues very wouldn't, but there's some cool lightsaber fights.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: I.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Clone Wars was terrible, the attack of the clones was brutal, it was awful.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then Revenge of the Sith was actually still very wooden in the dialogue, but it was really good because you finally get to see what happened with Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: But once you get to the Disney stuff,
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's bad, it's bad, I Disney ruined it for me, man.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Force Awakens was okay.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: Rogue One was awesome, but those other two were just, boom, yeah, it's okay.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: ruined it for me.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right, keep going.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: All the Lucas stuff, watch all of those.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Even, even attack on the clones.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're not gonna like it, but still watch it for your son's sake.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, all right, I've, you know, it's been a fun little weekend summer tradition and I'm happy to tell people it's like one of those things where you see like inside man like 30 years after it comes out and you just trying to find someone to talk to about it and have you seen the godfather.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Good fellows.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, because I'm like, yes, I'm a pizon.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: So they got to make sure you saw the great time and I married one.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: So yes.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, good man.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Good man.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I just making sure my buddy Bob Harris.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's he's never seen like some of these like movies like, you know, forest gone, but I'm like, what's wrong with you.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: If you got to watch this stuff, whatever it is, what it is, I'm also a movie nerd.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: My dad and I did, like, so I talked to him about this the other day.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: When I was like 16, he printed out the AFI top 100 and he's like, let's do it together.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: And so we did.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: We worked our way through it.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I was like, Dad, how did we miss
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: Star Wars.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes out.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just thought that was stupid.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: So I skipped it.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, that was like a massive culture gap in my life.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even want to tell you how many times I've seen four or five and six.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like I have seen them so many times.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: it is it gives me the vibe of something that's going to be like perpetually rewatchable which I'm I'm very down for and I can already see myself like little things I can make fun of but like by and large like seeing my son so locked into it I'm all on boards.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: Make sure you catch up on those.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Again, the Disney ones not so much but
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, I'm lucky to have Fabs here.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Fabs is a fantasy sports writer, Hall of Famer, a legend in the fantasy community.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna talk about a bunch of stuff today.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: But before we get going totally, you've a really cool opportunity for our SI readers, our SI fans.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you've ever wanted to play in a legit fantasy league with experts and celebrities, this is the chance you've been looking for.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: It is going to be awesome.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to name drop here and whatever if you guys, you know, yes, I'm kind of, I kind of do that, but it is what it is.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do it.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: So we are starting entries this week for a chance to play in a celebrity fantasy football league with me.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a celebrity.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just a dopey fantasy football guy, but the two celebrities, Michael Bublé.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, baby.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: and Adam Ray.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: They are going to share a team.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: You are going to have an opportunity to play against us and it's not exciting to play against me, but Michael Bublé, all the Grammys, Adam Ray did you see the latest Adam Ray on Netflix where he's doing Mike McDonald and I mean, it's huge sea hawkspan.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: They're both big sea hawkspan.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: So the way that you
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: You go up, you sign up for my new SMS line, or you sign up for the Fantasy Football Newsletter.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you sign up for the SMS line, you get five entries, and the newsletter, which is Fab's Fantasy Champions Newsletter, is a single entry, and at the end of August, we will be randomly
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Michael and Adam, they are going to split a team so we've got a 12 team league and not only that, but if you win the whole thing, you get a custom trophy from trophy smacking.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go with the belt.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: I love trophies, but I got so many belts from trophy smacked their awesome.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: And we also might maybe if everyone agrees.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: to a last place punishment and that last place punishment, I'm not going to throw it out there right now, but it's going to be fun.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: So again,
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: If you sign up for my new SMS line or the newsletter, five time entries, SMS, one entry, the newsletter.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of August, you will have an opportunity to potentially play in a fantasy football league with me, who cares?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Boubley, and Adam Ray.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I'm talking about.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Hell yeah.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Do this not only because Fabs is great because Michael Bublé is a secret fantasy football ringer Adam Ray's great But do it because it's Michael Fabiano's birthday gosh darn happy birthday Thanks dude.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate that man.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they keep coming quicker and quicker
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: right now.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get into like, so we're going to talk about, um, if you're listening, uh, we're going to talk about players that phab's can't stop drafting players who scare them the most, uh, and best late round dart throws to get you ready for your fantasy draft.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm curious.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned the last place punishment thing.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: You've been in the fantasy community for decades.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: What do you make of like the the subculture that's created around it?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: For example, like the viral last place punishment are these things that you see and you laugh at or you just like, oh my god, this is to become its own thing.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love it.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: What's your favorite?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: So there's so many good ones there's so bro, there's so many good ones so it kind of all originated at least as far back as I can remember With the whole waffle house thing.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, where if you finish last you have to spend 24 hours in a waffle house and every waffle that you e you shave an hour off of the time You need to be there
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: But now they're getting even more humiliating and to me it's hilarious.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love it.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, one of the ones that is just by far my favorite, um, and maybe it's because I haven't finished in the last place and how to do this, but you have to take a blow up dial out on a date to a restaurant.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that's, that's pretty bad.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: And now like you see these stuff on social media,
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: And someone was on one of the floats and it had a big sign that said, I suck a fantasy football trophy smack ass like all of these awesome outfits and, you know, trophies, they're not really for winning there for being lousy.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: That people will utilize our member last year.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: I was in Vegas, and I'm going to be in Vegas August 20th, 22nd for national fantasy football draft day.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: So if you guys are in the area or you want to fly in go have your drafts.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's an Adrian Peterson's going to be there Michelle Beatles is going to be there Jeff Garcia is going to be there a whole bunch of family football analysts are going to be there James or a day ride regas Thomas Edward Scott Austin necklace going to be around I was talking to him.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to be awesome.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: And there was a guy who literally was wearing a wenzie.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: And it said, I suck at fantasy football.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: And they got it came up to me and said all the fast I got to take a picture it's freaking hilarious But there's so many there's so many great like here's here's one that I think is more recent So you know the whole like hot ones phenomena where at least so free scope So if you finish in last you've got to do that hot wings challenge like the hot ones challenge That's that's pretty that's pretty bad I've also seen where people have to dress up as a baby with a bonnet and a diaper nothing else And embarrass themselves in public
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, there's so many great ones.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: The disgusting drink concoction.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody in the league gets to choose an ingredient that goes into a blender.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the person who finished last has to drink the whole thing down.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, I'm not too in my own horror here.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: I have been playing fantasy football for over 25 years.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I've only finished last once, once.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it was literally two years ago.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: It was in a league with WWE superstars and referees.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: I somehow got into the WWE locker room league.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: I finished.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: I had like the fifth most point scored in the most point scored against me and I finished last.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And Kofi Kingston did a video and just destroyed me.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on social media, which is totally fine because I'd rather do that than have to take a blow up doll on a date.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a fan of the, that is phenomenal.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I'm a fan of the absurdist ones, more like when came into my algorithm last night where a guy had to jump into a random for some at a golf course and play with them without a ball.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and you know what, I bet you that's the best round you ever shot in his life, too, because he's making birdie on every, you know, on every hole,
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just like that because everybody's not it's not something that every like the waffle house thing right like I'm guessing the staff at the waffle house every years like aren't here we go like we're gonna have like nine of these knuckleheads come in now that one nobody knows yet and so everyone just thought there is something seriously wrong with the guy which is kind of up my alley I thought that was that's it's awesome it's so much fun man I just I mean
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: If nothing else counter it makes people pay attention because a lot of times if there's no less place punishment or you know something something doesn't happen.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: From a negative standpoint whether or not you know you you don't get a good draft pick the following year whatever the case may be.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: It keeps people engaged for all of the regular season weeks.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: So people don't sort of like who aren't doing well, just kind of throw in the towel because we've all seen that in fantasy leagues.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And you don't wanna throw in the towel if you've got to wear a diaper and a bonnet or take a blow up doll on a date at your local Benys.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess that's one good thing that comes from it.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think of this one?
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we have our neighborhood league and there's a banner like our my neighbor's graphic designer does a great job and he made a banner with like a gestures thing on it's like I suck a fantasy football and you have to fly it on your house it's like house length you have to put a lot of house during the community parade so the community parade is to celebrate like.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: graduating seniors in the community, you go through every street, but then you have to hang that on your house.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: I propose an addendum to this.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that last place, so we have every year, which is like a weird tradition, but everyone in our community, there's a house tour, and you have to buy tickets, and you have to sign up your house to show off basically, we don't do that, but you have to sign up your house to show off on the house tour.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I said last place,
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: has to sign up for the house tour.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: And only your young children can clean your house.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's where everyone comes through on the house tour.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: And see have literally the entire community is traipsing through your house with like your four to your five year old having done all the cleaning.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: that might be the best punishment now that that's good i i've actually also just done like one on one wagers with friends and again i'm gonna drop names so whatever but yes would do that's the best part so um... i had a i had a bet with scotty and so who you famously know is the host of red zone
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: where we played against each other and the loser had to hold up a sign that said I lost two fabs or I lost a Scott in fantasy football, kind of thing and go and outside of the old NFL network buildings out in public and hold the banner up so you can take a picture I won so Scott had to do that I still have a picture of that and then
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then I used to do this yearly with Mizzannon, you know, the Mizz, not the worse picture, but the wrestler.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I, we had one wager where, you know, he would have to wear.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Yankees fan, he's an Indian's now Guardians fan.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: They were in the playoffs.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: The Yankees beat them.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: He had to wear Yankees stuff, or he had to wear a Cowboys jersey.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of stuff.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: But we also had one where.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we said that whoever, you know, would win, like, was going to be the other person's daddy and you had to put that on social media, like on, you know, piece of paper.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I beat Mike and this rap scallion, he wrote phabases my daddy and fantasy football so small and held it up on social media, but you couldn't even read what it said.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: And he said, you didn't tell me how big it was supposed to be.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, you son of a biscuit.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so even if you're doing just like if your pals and you want to do like a head-to-head kind of bet you could do something like that too, but the last place stuff is hilarious
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: Thinking broadly, there's been kind of a refrain in the fantasy community I've picked up on that this is kind of a top heavy year for the draft.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Do you subscribe to that?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think that there is depth beyond what we're maybe trying to see with our just our plain eyes?
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: At the point right here.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: That depends on the position.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Running back is top heavy, but wide receivers deep.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Um, tight end is really top a tie.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think people tell me, oh, fabs, you know, why are you like kick or so much?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, well, because kickers are part of, you know, the NFL, and if you don't have a kicker in your fantasy football league, you can't kill the football anymore, because no one's using their feet, right, for anything other than running, which every sport uses your feet for running.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, I would eliminate tight ends or make it a premium position.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: The tight end's been terrible for years now, and you know, outside of like, you know, the
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: And even Kelsey now, you know, he's not Travis Kelsey anymore.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's now Taylor Swift's husband.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I decided to train McBride in Brock Bauer's, what do you got?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we all love Coastal and Lovelins, and we love Tyler Warren, but it's a top-heavy position.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: Running back to top-heavy position.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: Quarterback, if you're playing in a league that's not super flexed, then you're not doing it right, because quarterback is the most valuable position, not only in the NFL, but maybe one of the most valuable positions and sports, and to devaluate so much
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, DAC Prescott and the 8th or 9th round, it shouldn't be like so you should be playing superflex, which means you can start two quarterbacks.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, certain positions, it's wicked top-heavy and others, it's, you know, there's some depth.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: The tight end thing is interesting.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: I want to pull on that thread for a minute.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I've seen Brock Bowers now, like the ADP is like end of first round beginning of second round for some, like, are you taking a tight end?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: That high, can you square that with kind of the strategy that you formulated for yourself over the years?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, never will, can't, unless it's a dinosaur league and already have them, you know, I have powers in one of my dinosaur leagues.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: So obviously I love that, but no, I'm not, I'm not doing that.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: I get it.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: I understand the, um, you know, the argument that these guys like me provide and borrowers are just so much better than every other Titan and the league that you have a huge advantage.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: But when you draft the Titan in round one or two, then you're missing out on a high end running back or a high end water receiver.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And when I,
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: go back and look at ADP and I see that Tucker craft is there in the 7th or 8th rounds or Harold Phanage there in the 7th or 8th rounds or even Sam Laporta who I'm kind of on the fence about.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really sure what to think about him.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: I could still get him because you're not expecting greatness.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're just hoping for some goodness.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so in rounds 7 round 8, you know, that area, that's when I'll go after my Titans after I already have.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: probably three wide receivers and three running back, something like that.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you know, I love Tyler Warren this year.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: I love them last year.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: If he falls to the sixth round, you know, which I don't think is going to happen.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: But if he does and a smaller league, then boom, I'll pull the trigger.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: You've always got to be able to audible with your draft strategy based on the flow of the draft.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean,
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: 99 times out of a hundred probably I'm not drafted to tighten until round I mean seven or eight we'll probably be the earliest because why I want to get running back to water receivers especially now when people are like flex starter crazy where you're legitimately starting maybe five or six combination of running back to water receivers you only start in one tight end you don't want to start a tight end in a flex position unless it's a premium league you don't want to do that
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: you give tight ends or any position, more point potential.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're in a tight end premium league, that means that if every other player gets a point for a catch, you tack on an extra half a point.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe you tack on an extra point.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: It makes the position more valuable.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: And in that case, you're going to see tight ends rise a little bit more, but in most leagues where people don't want to do that, it's just, it doesn't make any sense unless you're getting powers or McBride who I don't want because well, I love to have them, but I'm not going to get them, you know, if you want to get love linden round four or maybe worn in round four or five, okay, it's just, that's just never been my jam.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: Here in you say this, so it's funny.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: I have a co-manager in my big money league, and we were debating this for weeks on end, leading up to the keeper deadline.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: Our league allows you to keep one non-first round pick from the year prior, and that was O'Mario and Hampton, and then you can keep another player with a one round penalty.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: So you lose the draft pick in the round before.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: So we got Colston Lovelin in the 10th round last year.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: My partner wanted to keep RJ Harvey, who was our third round pick.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so we'd lose a second.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to keep Colston Lovelin, who was our 10th round pick.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: So we'd lose a ninth.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we were arguing back and forth.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he had the premium position argument.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't particularly love Harvey this year.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: And we settled on Lovelin just because of where the 80 P's lined up on both of those players.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it is it's funny like I just think we're a little tight end obsessed this year.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I feel like I got caught up in the way a little bit too.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would want Lovelin over Harvey ten times out of ten all day long.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: And a, you know, a keeper league and a dinosaur league because they're just our fewer and fewer good tight ends.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: We're running back.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, like, it's a top-heavy position, but there's still some, you know, decent players that are going to be in committees, you know, like Jalen Warren, for example, and a guy that I've been drafting a lot is Quinshawn Judkins.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I get him in around five, I mean, he's going to be a featured back.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'll take him, right?
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be right.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Basial Tutan, right?
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: There's always going to be players who kind of pop who outplay their ADP.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think two of those guys are potentially Judkins in Tutan, going into the season.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: But tight end, if you, I mean, any one of the top two, yes, and then you get to the four, the three and the four, which are going to be in some order worn and loved and, you know, they potentially could also be, you know, big advantages for your fantasy team and you don't have to draft them in around one or around two.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get to the players that you can't stop drafting.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I would say this, like, so I'm curious if you're the same way, as someone who covers football, you just get so at least I do.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: I get so at the end of the year, you're just like, all right, I know everything about all these players, bumblebleblebleble.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: and then the draft reinvigorates you and you get excited and then you end up with like nine rookies or roster just because like it's that way all there could be you know it could be limitless potential whatever whatever.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I need to safeguard against that but who are some players that you can't stop drafting for me it's rookies but who are the players that you can't stop.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I mentioned Jutkins and Tutin because I could get Jutkins in round five and it jives with my strategy of trying to get three water receivers and one running back in the first four rounds and getting a second running back in round five.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Tutin's guy that you get is a flex starter probably in round six and I know there's some questions about him, but all of the buzz has been very positive and Chris Rodriguez has been injured.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you move on to the lot of receivers like I love a mechko book, I think he's Jackson Smith and Jigba 2.0, but just keep in mind that Jason did not truly break out like on a big way until last year.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: His second year he was in the top 10.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think a book is going to mean the top 10.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: Although really like Luther Bird and although he's got this great injury, but I saw our report from Adam's chapter that
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: he's going to miss the preseason, but should be okay for week one.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: So burden someone that I have a lot of shares of, I have a lot of shares of Ponyx.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand why Ponyx is getting so disrespectful.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know he's coming off the ankle, but he's fine now.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: He was QB7 and each of his first two years in the NFL.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: QB7.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: And he's only been in the year in the league for two years.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is ADP as QB 15 right now and they have Jill and Wattel now.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand the disrespect.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I've been getting a lot of Bonyx, speaking of rookies, I've also been getting a lot of Casey Concepts of Yon because he's a late-round pick, but we could talk about some of those late-round draft targets that you could throw out there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: So getting a lot of Nix, getting a lot of junkins, getting a lot of Tutin, a mechabuka burden, a tetmick mealins and other player I've been getting a lot of him as well.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Why a book is one that I think really excites me and we did our Hunter Bull predictions column back in June.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: I predicted that he would lead the NFL and touchdown catches.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: When another player to leave, how do you kind of square that with your own personal strategy where Mike Evans leaves, clearly having Mike Evans helped a book during the early part of his career?
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's going to be responsible for a lot of coverage being rolled directly at him.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: How do you factor that into your own internal calculus?
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just opportunities.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, is it going to be facing tougher defenders?
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I mean, sure.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: But opportunities are gold and fantasy football, right?
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: So he is a guy that I can see
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: eight to ten targets a game, you know Mike Evans is gone, Evans, I believe last year was averaging like nine targets a game, but he just didn't play a lot.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Godwin is probably past his prime at this point, you know, they have some other good young receiver as the test Johnson's and, you know, Ted Hearst has been getting some buzz and Gillian McMillan, but I think a book is going to be the guy, it's all about opportunities, the same thing, like in Green Bay.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: right Christian Watson, Christian Watson is a big breakout candidate.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, he showed some flashes last year.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: He showed some flashes in his career when he's been able to say healthy, but Dante Vinawix has gone, Romeo Dobbs has gone opportunities.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you open the door for more targets, more chances to produce.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of what we're looking for.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: Even though some of these guys may draw some tougher defense defenders, the opportunities are what make it most valuable for me.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, a lot of these players are so versatile.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like your dad's wide receivers where these guys are always off the perimeter.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are always on the inside.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of these players like a book, I mean they're versatile.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: They can write up on the perimeter, they can line up in the slot, so offensive coordinators can move these guys around and create positive matchups.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: uh... technique million confidence is that uh... can that be interpreted as price young confidence in any way shape or form from you i i think bright young is what he is but right but he also targeted make mail in a ton last year and so i think that connection is big and and really other than i know that they gave jail and coker a pretty decent sized contract but i mean what else they have
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have a tight end who's going to eat a bunch of targets up, Xavier, you know, Leighette is kind of, he is what he is.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: So there's just not a lot to love in the passing game there in Carolina.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's not like this one player or a lot like that dude could steal a lot of targets from McMillan.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't see that player existing.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I think Ted, who, you know, he was unreliable at times last year, but he still finished in the top 20.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: As a rookie, I think he was the
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I could see him easily moving up four spots and being a low end wide receiver one in fantasy.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: What is, um, I'm just curious about this in the, in the fantasy community, like, you know, there's a lot of.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like between NFL people, there's that always that silent chest thumping where it's like, I know ball a little bit better than you.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: What is the vibe like in the fantasy community?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is it all love or if you see some of these people at a kind of convention, do you try to like, you're going to shoulder thump them a little bit?
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a little bit like, you know, it depends.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's probably the same.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Listen I mean no matter what there's people we're all competitive that there's people you're gonna like there's people You're not gonna like it is what it is I don't know that there's like anybody out there that like I want to be just not out of that guy in fantasy
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean, is are there people out there who I would be like, yeah, if you finished in last place, that would break my heart, but for the most part, I think it's a pretty, it's a pretty welcoming community, but I mean, dude, yeah.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I've been doing this for over 25 years, like, of course, there's people, again, people that you don't like, people that don't like you.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: I like to think that that's not as many people out there, but as it pertains to me.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who, I mean, and also, you know, I think a lot of it has to do with like what your status is in an industry, right?
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of jealousy too in every single industry, no matter what, and that kind of breeds some contempt.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I remember
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've had people, I'm not going to name names, but I've had people in the industry like literally they just trash me on Twitter and I've never met them once in my life.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: And they only know who you are.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: But people do that stuff, you know, it is what it is.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, everyone's competitive, but I have far more friends in the industry than I wouldn't say enemies, but, you know, people that I dislike or dislike me.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: uh... another random question before we get to the players that you are staying away from how many leagues is too many leagues and how many leagues are you in that for a year i try counter i try to cut it down and then it just builds back up um... last year i was in twenty and that's a way to
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's way too many.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to get down to like maybe 16 this year.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, I'm trying because like, you know, I cut two or three leagues and then all of a sudden, I've got an opportunity to do this league with Boubley.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then you add to that league.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then my buddy is like, hey, I want to do, you know, like, you know, team chop League, you know, can you get in?
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, all right, this is my good friend, I'll do it.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: So for a normal person,
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'd say six to eight is probably pushing it.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: But for me, I mean, I know people who are in like, if we're not counting the best ball because best ball, you don't have to do anything once the business starts.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know people who are in like 20, 30, or more leagues.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: What, and a lot of the high stakes folks, they play in a lot of leagues because they do a lot of entries because they figure the more entries they have, the better chance they have to either back their money or, you know, win a little bit.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's, do you have one to that like, is, is special to you like one would like that dates back to childhood that you'll never leave is that it does that still exist in your canon of of leaks.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, I've had leaks that I've been in for a long time.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about back to like when I first started back in the 90s.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, that's nothing like that.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's leagues that I've been in for, you know, over a decade, you know, definitely I want to win every league that I'm in.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm, you know, super competitive about that.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's certain leagues that I would rather win over others, whether it be the NFFC stat cancer league that I'm going to be drafting Las Vegas because if I win, I win money for, you know, pediatric cancer research, which is obviously, you know, really important any kind of charity aspect.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I can do good by winning a fantasy league, but there's also like some of these like these celebrity leagues that I'm in, you know, and I'm like the only not celebrity in the leagues, but I want to learn.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I've been doing like the Allison Chains League for a long time.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually run that whole league now on the commissioner.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: I run the whole thing.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've gotten people into the league this year at him.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: Wayne writes going to be in with us.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: You guys may remember him from the St. Louis Cardinals.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I was like the Cardinals.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's now he's a touring country singer.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Adam Weam right.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah to show last night.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, we were making fun of them.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so the buddy's really good.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's really good.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so like those leagues and I definitely want to win like boo blaze and that league.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I met Mike is through Jerry control from Allison chains because we've been in that league together.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: For a line, there's a lot of really the misses in that league, gerial canals in that league.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Duff McKay can used to be in that league from Guns and Roses, got he in from Anthrax, I mean, Slim Jim Phantom from the Strake, a lot of really great people Jeff Garland from Kirby on Thusiasm, as I was just, well, yeah, there's so much fun.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: We used to do the drafts when I was out in California when I worked for NFL.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: Never, we would do the drafts at Jerry's house every year can't trail.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, dude, one year I got the Bella twins into the league, and they came to Jerry Sauce and did the draft live.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Jeff Garland's head was going to explode.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: because they're the so Dickie and Brielle like sisters to me, I've known him for a long time and but I mean they're both beautiful women and so I mean it was pretty it was pretty funny it was pretty good and then like like Mike who is obviously great at promos and talking trash
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: he got into it one year I believe it was with Jeff and you know those two going back and forth was pretty funny so yeah so we used to actually have this whole big event like it's on serious sex I'm still covers the draft but now since COVID
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: Um, we've kind of done it on Zoom, um, more often and then I'm not California anymore.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_01]: So right.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in Florida, but uh, you know, I always want to win that league.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in other leagues like again, the WWE league, which I haven't really done well in for some reason.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think those guys like cursed me.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it didn't.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't cursed me or what the hell it was.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't really, I missed a playoff last year by like three points.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: Um, that, you know, that league is fun.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in a league with a lot of like,
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: Reporter sports analyst types.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of fun.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm in a league with some former and current baseball players.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I want to win all my leagues.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there's certainly one, especially the ones that will do some good charitable contributions.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the leagues that I really want to win.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to be in that league with Bublé.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put a few entries in here.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: Did I just just so I can get a trade request on like a Bublé?
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I wonder if Bublé is like a good trader or he's one of the worst people in the league where he offers you like a bag of peanuts for Justin Jefferson and then he's like one of those let's start low and negotiate to the middle guys, which I just cut out of my life completely.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, not for nothing, Justin Jefferson wasn't worth a bag of peanuts last year, so in fantasy.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, no, I haven't made a trade with him yet.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: I love to trade trades, one of the most fun parts of it.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: But there are some people out there that I'm in leased with.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: Me and Adam Wainwright, we make at least two or three trades a year.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because we're in multiple leagues together.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: We love to make trades.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Jerry O'Connell, we always make trades.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'll make a trade, you know, we're two here with Missanne and Jeff Garland will like to make trades.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: House of this, Boo Bla is not only a fantasy football maniac.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but he is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know how sometimes they say that if you want your heroes to remain your heroes, you shouldn't meet your heroes, he's not one of those guys.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: One of the nicest, most genuine people.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look at he's, you know, he agreed to do this, you know, for me, what sports illustrated where people are going to have a chance to play in a fantasy league with him.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: His guy's one five Grammys.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: He said a gazillion albums sold.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, he's like one of the greatest ever.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: and he is literally just like a regular guy.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: He lives half of the year in Argentina because his wife is from Argentina.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: And during World Cup, my neighbors are from Argentina, right?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: And they are, they love Bouble, they love his wife.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so all the sudden I get a face time, it's from, it's from Michael.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, hey, your neighbor's home.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, he's at a restaurant
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's there speaking Spanish with my neighbors, my neighbors like, oh my god.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: This is freaking, this is Michael Bublé.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, they call me crap.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: And he did it just because he's just a nice guy.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's just like, you know, he's all about, you know, my neighbors like love you and you're like, okay, well, I'm gonna face time, I'm gonna say hello.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Such a good dude.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: But all the guys, all the guys in that league are great people.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're all fun, you know, in their own way, but, you know, me and Mike are really competitive, but just great, great people and a lot of fun.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so the 10 lucky people, it's gonna be 10 winners.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Because I'm gonna have a team and then Michael and Adam are gonna share a team and then we're gonna have 10 winners.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, 10 lucky people out there are gonna have a chance to say I played an fantasy football league with Michael Bublé and Adam Ray and some dopey nerdy fantasy animals.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Man, it's good to hear that Bublé's like legitimately one of the good ones.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be such a big team.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: I found it that good.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I would be honestly, like I would, I would be the worst.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: All right, give me some players who scare you the most.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think this is honestly one of the most valuable discussion points heading into your fantasy football draft because so many people just arrive with the preconceived notions that they baked in from last year, but so much has happened over the off season that would cause you to be like, I don't know, I'm staying away from that guy.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: throw every 49er.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, oh my god, everyone's hurt.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say this because when I'm wrong, I'll say I'm wrong.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was dead wrong about McAfrey last year.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: I did not want him in Ron one, I didn't have him.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want to say one too, so I guess 50, 50 on that.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: And McAfrey went on to score the most points of any player in fantasy football.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, Fab, this is a nice work there.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: You're a big dummy, but he had 450 touches.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's 30 years old.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just two of the last 13 running backs who led the NFL and touches have finished in the top 12 of the following year.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much like just red flagged for McAfrey.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now does that mean I won't draft them if he's there at 7 or 8?
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I probably will, but I wouldn't feel great about it.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even do his handcuffs right now.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're both hurt.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans scares me because 33 years old is right in hurt during camp and typically when you're an older, wide receiver and you change teams, it doesn't go well for the most part.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: Travis H. and scares me because the Saints kept Camaro.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, Travis HN, I believe it was 40-ish percent of his fantasy points came as a receiver.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that Camaro's receiving metrics were really bad last year, but if they're going to use them as their predominant past catcher out of the gut field,
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to hurt HN, you know, Matthew Stafford scares me, although it's not as much of a risk because I think everyone's scared of Stafford because you know, Connor the year before last year, he averaged seven fewer points per game than in 2025.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: You have to like factor in the magical season narrative and I say that all the time.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_01]: I was all over Drake May last year.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: I said, drop them.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's the guy this year.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's the guy this year.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_01]: And Drake ain't the dub-paving what the QB-2 season of his life.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Can he do it again and back to back here?
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with a hard way harder schedule.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: With a way, he's got his opening Seattle.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like some of the games that they played in last year.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were playing cupcakes.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to regret, so, again, I'll go back to the Niners George Kiddler coming off in a kill.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be 33 years older in the season starts.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little afraid of him too.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, and it just Jacobs, you know, we're starting to see a few kind of kinks in his armor.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we saw it last year with some of the advanced stuff.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, there are players that
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that I'm gonna avoid them like all together, but if I end up in a position where like, oh my god, they fall in this floor.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to draft them.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still scared that the, you know, that the investment's not gonna work out.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Jalen, why does another one?
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: And he went from Miami, where after Tyre Kill went down, his targets per game average didn't go up significantly.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: And now he goes to Denver, which has one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the entire league.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm expected drafting is a wide receiver too, and expecting the put-up really consistently good numbers.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: Coral and Sutton's got the rapport with Ponyx, not Jim Lotto right now.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: So like,
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: Wattles another guy that on that again, I'm not saying I wouldn't draft him, but I draft him thinking this might be a mistake at the end of the season.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: Another player you mentioned the age and you mentioned the wear and tear and the rigors of a career.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, you know, I'm asking this for myself, but also because I think a lot of people are out there like I'm in the last pick this year.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I have the turn and everybody's looking at Derek Henry, who's going into like what is age 32 season at this point for a running back.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: When, when, when do we stop taking that guy like in the first or the second round like new offensive coordinate like everything, but, but of course he's going to have like 17 touchdowns again at the end of the year if you don't pick, you know.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: He is the unicorn of unicorns.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: There is no one else who can do what Derek Henry has done.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you look at the history of it.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: Every year, I ask the same thing.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: And every year, he just goes off and has great seasons.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: And now he is pushing it though, right?
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's pushing it.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: Guys is age at the running back position, just don't produce enormous numbers.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: But once again, he is the unicorn.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's been the exception to the rule.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: I posted my 10-volt predictions.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: Not all of them, I am 100% backing, but like sometimes you post something because you have facts and proof that may warrant it being true at the end of the season.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: maybe father time finally catches up with air canry right I mean like it's possible but like am I going to be afraid to draft them in round two if he's the best player available no the thing is though that typically my round two predict a pick is going to be a wide receiver so I typically don't ever fall into a situation where I you know would have to decide to draft them or not but would I if he was there yeah I would draft him but again in the back of my mind I'm
- 43:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Kenny just continue to keep it up like literally.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: there is not a running back that I can remember and I mean like I love NFL history that has done what he's done at his age.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean Curtis Martin had a really good year he won the rushing title at 31.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: Tiki Barber had some really good years in his early 30s but I mean it is a very small group of running backs who thrive.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean some of the great Eric Dickerson fell off a cliff in his 30s.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know the Dany and Thomas and wasn't
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: Just keeps on keeping on.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I'm going to have in the back of my mind is this the year where it falls apart, but I'm still going to draft them if he's there and he's the best player available for me and you know what I'm looking for in that round.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get out of here, give me my favorite thing, which is the late round art throw.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: I, like rounds nine until the end, are to me like you just spin around with a blindfold on and you start hurling shit at the wall.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: And when one hits, you get to act like the biggest douchebag.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly, you all along, which,
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: I go back to the NFL principle where it's like the bell-check pages.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we knew Tom Brady was great Well, then draft him in the first round if he thought he was that.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, but who are some great late round Dark throws that you've been loving in your drafts?
- 45:10[SPEAKER_01]: Not for nothing NFL GMs historically have not done well Like especially with quarterbacks, especially with quarterbacks, so you know, they're much like fantasy football managers
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, hoping, well, the jets, I mean, they're just brutal, but I don't that most fantasy managers are about in the jets, but Jordan Mason is a guy that out throw a dart at younger than Aaron Jones, Jones missed time last year.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be, you know, going into age 31 season.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_00]: So revamped running game in Minnesota too.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: So Jordan Mason's a guy that I'll throw a dart at because he's going to be an RV for a type or shot white.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'll throw a dart at him as well in a PPR league.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: I was a little bit higher on them before they draft or before they science to find days in Washington, because I thought white could be like this year's Ken Gainwell.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the commanders at least have one more weapon in the passing game, that's established.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, if you're in a league where touchdowns are more important, you're Corey Croskey.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: Merritt's also a guy that you could throw a late-run dart at, I mentioned Casey Concepts of Yon.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: In Cleveland, Denzel Boston has always been also been getting some buzz.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's also worth a late round dart throw in the category of somebody who's got to catch the freaking football in Miami.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: Malique Washington and Greg Dalsich are both worth late dart throws because, again, I know Malique Willis is going to throw the ball at.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I wouldn't call Malique Willis a late round dart throw.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at the history of quarterbacks, who have Rush for 700 or more yards, they're almost always in the top 15.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: And he's gonna rush for 600 plus.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: And if he gets to 700, even if he's in the 600 range, he's gonna be in the top 15 at quarterback.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know if I'd call him a dart throw, but I mean, he's a late-round pick.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: So that's another player.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: Depending on what happens with George Kittle, I think Jake Tajis is worth a late-round dart throw.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: He was good last year when Kittle was down.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: And if Kiddled, you know, and I understand that, you know, like they're talking about well, he could be ready for a week one.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'd be shocked dude.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, that guy got hurt, tore his Achilles in January, and you're not gonna fly him to Australia.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: A month, right, exactly.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, later, you're telling me that he's gonna play, like, oh my god.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, right, I don't think so either.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: So, even if Tanjus is like a, you know, third to last round, dart throw as a handcuff for Kiddle, or like, I don't really love my tight end one or my tight end two.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm just gonna take him and I'll start him until Kiddle comes back.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't hate that move either.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: No, I like that a lot and I just think like you said so many injury issues with the 49ers and also just a ridiculous travel schedule that you don't know how that's going to manifest over time and and how that's going to wear on a team and a roster with a bunch of 30 plus your old guys fabs
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: this was unbelievable.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so glad we had a chance to do it.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: If you missed at the top of the show, tell people one more time how they can get into this league with Adam Ray and Michael Blu-Blay, like seriously, this is going to be an amazing time.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, I will be posting a whole bunch of stuff on social media, I'm on Instagram and X and TikTok and Facebook and all that kind of good stuff.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do is you sign up for my new SMS line.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: You get five entries when you do that.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Or you sign up for the fantasy
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: And do both go crazy.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, get good nuts.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: As Michael Keaton said, as Bruce Wayne in the one of the great Batman movies, go ahead and do that.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: And then at the end of August, we will draw randomly 10 winners and those 10 people will be able to play against Michael and Adam who will share a team and then me and we will draft we will have a boatload of fun.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: The champion at the end of the year will win a customized trophy or belt from trophy smack.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: And once again, there is a last place punishment that I have been throwing around with Boo Blai and I think he's into it and I'm not going to say what it is.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be horrible.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to have to eat bugs or sit or sit in a diner with a blow up doll.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be anything bad, but it could be quite embarrassing.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say that.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, well you guys have heard it here from Michael Fabiano, our sports illustrated fantasy football expert He's the best following him on every and all platforms.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: Check out his work on SI.com Fabs, you're the best.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for doing this man.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate him.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I hopefully we can do this a little bit more often during the season.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: Hell yeah, let's go.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not tricking diet coach though with fear.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you soon.
