- 0:00Speaker 1: There's not a person in this room. There's not a poo.
- 0:06Speaker 1: He stood the greetings in the name of our Lord,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and say to Jesus Christ, I'm so glad to have
- 0:14Speaker 1: the opportunity to share the word of the Lord with
- 0:17Speaker 1: you to dispel your fears and get you ready for
- 0:20Speaker 1: the changes that God is going to do in your life.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And if you are going to be truly ready for
- 0:25Speaker 1: all that God will do, you cannot be distracted by
- 0:27Speaker 1: the noise and pestiles of people and their murmurings and bickerings. Extract,
- 0:32Speaker 1: if you will, any residue of wisdom that might be
- 0:35Speaker 1: extracted from their criticism, and to the rest of it,
- 0:38Speaker 1: move it out of your way. I want to show
- 0:40Speaker 1: you how to live with criticism and still do what
- 0:43Speaker 1: God has called you to do. And we all have it,
- 0:45Speaker 1: even our critics have critics. Don't let them be sovereign
- 0:50Speaker 1: in your life as if they are God.
- 0:51Speaker 2: They are not.
- 0:52Speaker 1: They have critics too, and don't you become one of them,
- 0:55Speaker 1: because that would be a distraction from what you're called
- 0:58Speaker 1: to do. Let's go into this world, and more importantly,
- 1:01Speaker 1: let's let this word go into us as we learn
- 1:05Speaker 1: how to live with criticism here. She said, either one
- 1:13Speaker 1: of them will work, a friend or a mirror. You
- 1:15Speaker 1: are true, I said, you you just you, just you
- 1:20Speaker 1: just everything. Everybody's always trying to make you feel affirmed.
- 1:25Speaker 1: When when is enough going to be enough? And he said,
- 1:29Speaker 1: thank you for confronting me. And I said, but I
- 1:34Speaker 1: needed to be able to say that good friends can
- 1:36Speaker 1: say tough things to you because they care enough about
- 1:40Speaker 1: you to critique you, to say, you know, I know
- 1:44Speaker 1: you're insecure, I know you went through some changes, but men,
- 1:46Speaker 1: you're driving me nuts today. In fact, I think that
- 1:51Speaker 1: people who really love you will invest at the risk
- 1:56Speaker 1: of falling out with you to tell you the truth.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The sign of an imposter is somebody who always says
- 2:04Speaker 1: what you want to hear. Many many, many businesses. Companies fall,
- 2:09Speaker 1: finally fall, Churches fall because nobody has the nerve to
- 2:13Speaker 1: say the tough things that need to be said to
- 2:17Speaker 1: the person that it needs to.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Be said to.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Criticism is a very important thing, I believe, on staff,
- 2:28Speaker 1: in the ministry, in the church, criticism that goes up
- 2:32Speaker 1: to somebody who can do something about it is better
- 2:35Speaker 1: than criticism that goes bilaterally or goes down.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That's complaining.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Complaining and bickering is not productive, but there are sometimes
- 2:43Speaker 1: that you need to be able to say something to
- 2:45Speaker 1: somebody who can do something in a discreet way that
- 2:48Speaker 1: brings about a change. It doesn't mean you're a Judas
- 2:51Speaker 1: because you don't agree with everything. All criticism is not bad,
- 2:58Speaker 1: just like flattery is not always sign that things are good.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I hate to tell you this, but people who speak
- 3:04Speaker 1: well of you all the time, you cannot trust that.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They like you.
- 3:11Speaker 1: This is such a strange, paradoxical situation that Jesus often
- 3:17Speaker 1: rebukes people that I would have thought he would have embraced,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and he embraces people that I thought he should rebuke.
- 3:25Speaker 1: When Peter says you can't take the Lord, he rebukes
- 3:29Speaker 1: him and says, get the hints behind me. When Judas
- 3:33Speaker 1: comes to betray him, he calls him friend. Sometimes you
- 3:37Speaker 1: cannot evaluate who a person is by the message they bring.
- 3:42Speaker 1: The fact that they bring something that is negative or
- 3:44Speaker 1: hard to hear does not mean that they don't love you.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It could mean that they're making an investment in your
- 3:50Speaker 1: destiny and that they care enough to risk your disdain
- 3:54Speaker 1: to confront you with the truth. I don't think it's
- 3:58Speaker 1: productive when you talk about people. You can't try to
- 4:05Speaker 1: help me by talking about me. It's totally different to
- 4:10Speaker 1: talk to the person as opposed to talking about them.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But all of us live in a world that we
- 4:15Speaker 1: have to deal with criticism, and even amongst those who
- 4:18Speaker 1: criticize us with evil intent, there may be something that
- 4:22Speaker 1: you can learn from the criticism that will sharpen you
- 4:26Speaker 1: and make you better. There are those people who say
- 4:28Speaker 1: things maliciously and angrily to hurt, to malign, to assassinate
- 4:34Speaker 1: you or your character, or your talent, or your ability,
- 4:37Speaker 1: And even though their intentions are evil and wicked and corrupt,
- 4:42Speaker 1: there may be some morsel of truth in what they
- 4:45Speaker 1: said that helps you to hone yourself from prepare yourself,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and make yourself better so that you might be able
- 4:51Speaker 1: to stay, take what's good, leave what's bad, and keep
- 4:54Speaker 1: on walking. My grandmother would say, eat the meat and
- 5:00Speaker 1: throw away the bones. Y'all don't know nothing about that.
- 5:05Speaker 1: One thing is sure. One thing is sure. When you
- 5:10Speaker 1: are criticized, you are not ignored. That means that somebody
- 5:18Speaker 1: noticed you, that you were doing something, that you attracted
- 5:21Speaker 1: enough attention, that you made enough difference that you got
- 5:24Speaker 1: on the radar screen enough that they're talking about you.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Don't run from them talking about you. They noticed you,
- 5:30Speaker 1: they recognize you. There are some people that they're not
- 5:33Speaker 1: talking about because they didn't even notice that they came
- 5:35Speaker 1: in the room. You draw attention, and people who draw
- 5:40Speaker 1: attention will also draw criticism. And the only way to
- 5:47Speaker 1: avoid all criticism is to do nothing and then be ignored.
- 5:52Speaker 1: How many of you are gonna do something. I'm gonna
- 5:56Speaker 1: do something, I'm gonna do something. And the moment you
- 6:00Speaker 1: raise your hand and says I'm going to do something,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I can guarantee you that somebody's not going to agree
- 6:05Speaker 1: with what you're going to do. Somebody's not going to
- 6:09Speaker 1: be supportive of what you're trying to do. Somebody's going
- 6:12Speaker 1: to try to assassinate what you're trying to do. And
- 6:15Speaker 1: yet you have to have the commitment and the calling
- 6:18Speaker 1: and the tenacity and the character to be able to
- 6:20Speaker 1: withstand the onslaught that comes against you in order to
- 6:24Speaker 1: proceed towards your destiny, towards your purpose. Are you hearing
- 6:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying to you today? You would think that
- 6:32Speaker 1: if you are a truly good person and you were
- 6:34Speaker 1: trying to do a really good thing, and you were
- 6:36Speaker 1: really trying to do something positive in the world or
- 6:39Speaker 1: in the community, or in the family or in the neighborhood,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you would think you would be supported and validated by
- 6:45Speaker 1: everybody if you were truly good. But this text that
- 6:49Speaker 1: we're about to talk about today is quite clear. This
- 6:53Speaker 1: is Jesus being criticized. This is Jesus being criticized for
- 6:59Speaker 1: doing a good thing for a good costs at a
- 7:03Speaker 1: needy time. And yet there are criticisms. And I'm going
- 7:08Speaker 1: to tell you I am amazed today at the people
- 7:12Speaker 1: who allow criticisms to shut down their assignment, who shrink
- 7:19Speaker 1: into the abyss of depression, who walk away from what
- 7:24Speaker 1: they have been called to do simply because everybody didn't
- 7:27Speaker 1: validate them and support them.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They simply gave up. It's amazing.
- 7:31Speaker 1: In fact, I would be bodacious enough to say that
- 7:34Speaker 1: you don't deserve the right to lead if you walk
- 7:39Speaker 1: away just because somebody didn't agree with you. You don't need
- 7:44Speaker 1: anybody who would just stand when times are good. You
- 7:47Speaker 1: need somebody to stand when things are tough. I don't
- 7:53Speaker 1: just need a good mama on a good day, when
- 7:56Speaker 1: the sun is shining, and all the bills are paid
- 7:59Speaker 1: and we can get along and everything. I need a
- 8:01Speaker 1: good mama. When the money is low, the circumstances of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the man, all hell is breaking loose.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I'm in trouble.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I've almost lost my mind. But somebody who's gonna stand
- 8:11Speaker 1: there and be good in the midst of bullying and adversity.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I need somebody who's gonna stand there and be strong.
- 8:19Speaker 1: In fact, good leadership is determined by tough times. You
- 8:23Speaker 1: can't prove you're a good leader in good times. You
- 8:27Speaker 1: prove good leadership in bad times and tough situations, so
- 8:34Speaker 1: you earn the right to be heard through the things
- 8:37Speaker 1: you suffer. Respect, my friend, has never given. It must
- 8:43Speaker 1: be heard. People don't respect you just because you take
- 8:47Speaker 1: a title, or because you sit behind a desk, or
- 8:50Speaker 1: because you open up a business, or because you start
- 8:52Speaker 1: a coming here, because you start a ministry. People don't
- 8:55Speaker 1: respect you just because you wear a certain outfit or
- 8:58Speaker 1: you put a hat on your head.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Respect you when.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You can take a licking and keep on ticking and
- 9:04Speaker 1: stand for something. Oh it's gonna be rough in here
- 9:11Speaker 1: this morning. Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God,
- 9:19Speaker 1: I've seen that. I was driving yesterday and was driving
- 9:22Speaker 1: down twenty and saw a police officer. I that doesn't
- 9:26Speaker 1: bother me that I saw the police officer. But I
- 9:28Speaker 1: prayed in the spirit a little bit, you know. I
- 9:39Speaker 1: didn't mean to put this in the sermony. Just kind
- 9:40Speaker 1: of fell in their kind of sideways. And now I'm
- 9:43Speaker 1: trying to get out of it, you know. But I
- 9:45Speaker 1: had to pray a little bit because I was, you know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: moving on down the road a little bit. And I've
- 9:56Speaker 1: rebuked his to all of his computers and equipment and everything.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And the Lord gave me grace, and I slowed down
- 10:07Speaker 1: after that, because a brother like me don't have no
- 10:11Speaker 1: money to be paying tickets for nothing. I just don't.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I just don't give it up like that for stuff
- 10:17Speaker 1: like that if I can help it.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Amen.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But the thing about it is he is there to
- 10:22Speaker 1: keep me within certain parameters. And I had gotten beside myself.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And sometimes people will say things to warn you, to
- 10:33Speaker 1: to let you know that everybody's not for you. So
- 10:35Speaker 1: you gotta be careful and you gotta walk a certain
- 10:38Speaker 1: kind of way because there are certain people that are
- 10:40Speaker 1: waiting on you to go too far. So they can
- 10:42Speaker 1: destroy you. And sometimes you have to live right because
- 10:45Speaker 1: some people are hoping you will come down, and hoping
- 10:48Speaker 1: you will fall, and hoping you will die, hoping you
- 10:51Speaker 1: will collapse, and hoping you will give way. They want
- 10:54Speaker 1: you to get a divorce. They want you to file bankruptcy.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They want you to lose your house. They want you
- 11:01Speaker 1: to have a nervous breakdown. They want you to walk away.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Glory to God.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Touch three people say I'm gonna mission. I'm gonna mission
- 11:17Speaker 1: still to come on the Potter's touch to all of
- 11:20Speaker 1: you who make these deals with God that says, if
- 11:27Speaker 1: you do this, I will serve you, and if you
- 11:30Speaker 1: do this, I will praise you, and if you do
- 11:32Speaker 1: this by Friday, I will give my life to you.
- 11:35Speaker 1: God said deals off. I have people who will serve me,
- 11:40Speaker 1: whether I do it or not, whether I heal it
- 11:43Speaker 1: or not, whether it comes together or not, whether the
- 11:46Speaker 1: child gets well or not. I'm not looking for somebody
- 11:49Speaker 1: who is offering me conditional love.
- 11:55Speaker 3: This unhealthy relationship has been going on too long. You
- 11:58Speaker 3: should be bringing up with fear.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You're amazed at yourself, how calm you reacted to the circumstance.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Because the piece that you're operating in is not your piece.
- 12:11Speaker 1: It is a piece of God. I didn't cut you.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It's a piece of God. I didn't curse you out.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I'm proud of it, but I didn't react on it.
- 12:19Speaker 3: For helping us reach others with your best gift, we
- 12:22Speaker 3: would like to bless you with Bishop td Jake's four
- 12:24Speaker 3: Liberating Messages Breaking Up with Fear Unleashed Grace on DVD.
- 12:29Speaker 1: While other people brag about the car and about the house,
- 12:32Speaker 1: how always sacred, funny, amazing, grace, that cop meaned cop.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Bit And when your gift is one hundred and fifty
- 12:40Speaker 3: dollars or more, we would also like to give you
- 12:42Speaker 3: the Fearless Reading Collection, Bishop Jake's Woman thou Art Loosed
- 12:45Speaker 3: Healing the Wounds of Your Past, and Cheryl Brady's You
- 12:48Speaker 3: Have It in You plus Seeds of Greatness on DVD.
- 12:51Speaker 3: All this when you visit our website or call one
- 12:53Speaker 3: eight hundred Bishop Too.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Today, I'm on a mission. I'm supposed to make waves.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I'm supposed to be controversial. You gotta be controversial. There's
- 13:08Speaker 1: almost seven billion people on the planet. I don't care
- 13:11Speaker 1: what you say. Somebody gonna disagree with it, Lord, deliver
- 13:15Speaker 1: us from people that don't want to make any waves
- 13:17Speaker 1: and get on anybody's nerves and trying to keep everything
- 13:20Speaker 1: nice and calm, and send us somebody who will take
- 13:22Speaker 1: a stand about something and say what they mean and
- 13:26Speaker 1: mean what they say. Before we go into this, I
- 13:41Speaker 1: want to take a moment and acknowledge the faith of
- 13:46Speaker 1: this crippled woman. The blaring, glaring, bodacious, relentless faith of
- 13:57Speaker 1: this crippled woman. I'm not talking about the faith that
- 14:01Speaker 1: got her healed. I'm talking about the faith that the
- 14:07Speaker 1: Bible says for eighteen years. This woman came to the
- 14:13Speaker 1: same synagogue for eighteen years with no change, and she
- 14:22Speaker 1: didn't quit, and she didn't miss, and she didn't stop,
- 14:28Speaker 1: and she didn't walk away. It's amazing if this woman
- 14:32Speaker 1: could come in crippled up. It ought to challenge every
- 14:36Speaker 1: healthy person who's standing straight up that if somebody can
- 14:40Speaker 1: come in like this for eighteen years, how dare you
- 14:44Speaker 1: have two good lists and talk about how tired you are.
- 14:48Speaker 1: This woman had faith before she got healed. The faith
- 14:57Speaker 1: to persevere when nothing is happening at all, the faith
- 15:06Speaker 1: to be nice when others are nasty, the faith to
- 15:12Speaker 1: be consistently excellent while people ignore your creativity. She is
- 15:21Speaker 1: supposed a child of enduring faith abiding commitment. So I
- 15:26Speaker 1: had the time, I would take the time to explain
- 15:28Speaker 1: to you that this woman has gone to the same
- 15:30Speaker 1: of God for eighteen years. There is no glory there.
- 15:36Speaker 1: The ark of the covenant is gone. They worship behind
- 15:41Speaker 1: the worship before a veil that covers an empty space
- 15:45Speaker 1: where God was and is no longer. And yet she comes.
- 15:53Speaker 1: She comes to a service where nothing is happening. She
- 15:57Speaker 1: comes for eighteen years. She comes and leaves just exactly
- 16:06Speaker 1: the way she came. And stal she comes to all
- 16:12Speaker 1: of you who make these deals with God that says,
- 16:19Speaker 1: if you do this, I will serve you. And if
- 16:22Speaker 1: you do this, I will praise her. And if you
- 16:24Speaker 1: do this by Friday, I will give my life to you.
- 16:27Speaker 1: God said deals off. I have people who will serve me,
- 16:32Speaker 1: whether I do it or not, whether I heal it
- 16:35Speaker 1: or not, whether it comes together or not, whether the
- 16:38Speaker 1: child gets well or not. I'm not looking for somebody
- 16:42Speaker 1: who is offering me conditional love.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Oh.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I can't fool with her long, because if I get
- 16:52Speaker 1: stuck over there, I won't get away eighteen years of
- 16:56Speaker 1: listening at the contradictory voices saying I thought God loved you.
- 17:06Speaker 1: The Bible said she was bowed over. She was infirmed
- 17:09Speaker 1: in such a way that she could not lift herself.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So she had to have help getting in and help
- 17:15Speaker 1: getting out, and she couldn't lift herself. She couldn't You know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: when you can't take care of yourself.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 17:22Speaker 1: That's the toughest about to be. To be at the
- 17:25Speaker 1: mercy of other people is a very frightening thing that
- 17:28Speaker 1: scares me to death. Being dead doesn't scare me, but
- 17:32Speaker 1: being at the mercy of other people scares me to
- 17:34Speaker 1: death because the moment you look at me, funny, I
- 17:38Speaker 1: don't want you to bring me a cup of tea.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But for eighteen years she'd had to depend on people,
- 17:55Speaker 1: but she kept on coming. Look at her commitment, Look
- 18:00Speaker 1: at her commitment to coming, in spite of her predicament,
- 18:06Speaker 1: in spite of her circumstance, she comes, And finally, after
- 18:12Speaker 1: three hundred, after eighteen years, on the end of the
- 18:15Speaker 1: three hundred and sixty fifth day of the seventeenth year,
- 18:18Speaker 1: finally she comes.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And Jesus iscere clorthy to God.
- 18:33Speaker 1: If I was a younger man and I was preaching
- 18:35Speaker 1: a revival. I'd call this this might be the day.
- 18:42Speaker 2: This might be the Dad.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Why did you come to church this morning because this
- 18:54Speaker 1: might be to day? Why'd you get up out of
- 18:57Speaker 1: the bed this morning because this might be the day?
- 19:00Speaker 2: Glory to God?
- 19:01Speaker 1: Why did you put in another application because this might
- 19:04Speaker 1: be the day? Oh, y'all, don't hear what I'm saying?
- 19:06Speaker 1: Glory to God. Look at somebody say, this might be
- 19:09Speaker 1: the day. I can't stay home today. This might be
- 19:13Speaker 1: the day. I can't give up right now. This might
- 19:16Speaker 1: be the day I can't slap back now, This might
- 19:19Speaker 1: be the day.
- 19:26Speaker 2: This might be the day.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And Jesus came in, and Jesus began the minister, and
- 19:33Speaker 1: he began to teach, and he began to teach, and
- 19:37Speaker 1: while he was teaching, while he was teaching, the Bible
- 19:40Speaker 1: said that he saw her.
- 19:44Speaker 2: He saw her. It's you know, the Bible doesn't waste
- 19:49Speaker 2: time telling you things that you don't need to know.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You know, it just does not have enough room to
- 19:55Speaker 1: tell you things you don't need to know. He saw
- 19:57Speaker 1: her with be an assumption, but the fact that they
- 20:01Speaker 1: mention it makes it powerful. It implies that other people didn't.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:09Speaker 1: People can live with you and not see you. People
- 20:13Speaker 1: can work with you and not see you. People can
- 20:15Speaker 1: worship with you and not see you. People can sleep
- 20:17Speaker 1: with you and not see you. You live me around
- 20:22Speaker 1: people every day and they don't even have a coul
- 20:24Speaker 1: who you are. Jesus saw her, and I take it
- 20:28Speaker 1: to mean all down up inside her. I don't mean
- 20:31Speaker 1: her hair and her makeup and her fingernail and.
- 20:34Speaker 2: All of that.
- 20:34Speaker 1: He saw what eighteen years of struggle had done to her.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He saw the trauma of her circumstance. He saw the
- 20:41Speaker 1: abuse of her spirit. He saw the bruising of her soul,
- 20:45Speaker 1: He saw the tripling of her femininity.
- 20:47Speaker 2: He saw her go.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Don't you think God seize you? Don't you think God
- 20:55Speaker 1: seize you? I missed all these people in this room.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Do you seek God? Don't see you?
- 21:03Speaker 2: God seze you.
- 21:05Speaker 1: He sees your circumstance, He sees your tears, he sees
- 21:10Speaker 1: your misfortune, he sees your predicament. He sees you. You
- 21:15Speaker 1: don't have to explain it, you don't have to describe it.
- 21:18Speaker 3: He sees you.
- 21:32Speaker 1: He called her glory to God, Glory to God, shake
- 21:38Speaker 1: somebody and tell him he's calling me. The audacity is
- 21:45Speaker 1: that he calls, Oh Lord, you know he calls a
- 21:52Speaker 1: crippled woman. I'm gonna pause for a moment. I'll be
- 21:55Speaker 1: back shortly. I want you to know that I gave
- 21:57Speaker 1: the congregation more than I can give my television audience.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I wish I had more television time. I would give
