Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Disgraceland is a production of Double Elvis. Disgraceland is an
- 0:06Speaker 1: adult storytelling podcast. The themes are for a mature audience.
- 0:10Speaker 1: The language is explicit. You know this. However, this episode
- 0:15Speaker 1: pushes the limits of the word explicit. In this episode,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the subject's behavior and the language used to describe it
- 0:22Speaker 1: is highly offensive. So this is a warning. It goes
- 0:25Speaker 1: without saying that this isn't for kids, And if you
- 0:28Speaker 1: yourself aren't constitutionally inclined to handle the highly transgressive world
- 0:32Speaker 1: of Gigi Allen, then this episode isn't for you either.
- 0:36Speaker 1: But if you're the type of sick bastard that slows
- 0:39Speaker 1: down to look at a car crash on the side
- 0:40Speaker 1: of the road, then pull over right now, unbuckle your
- 0:43Speaker 1: kids from their car seats, and throw them out on
- 0:45Speaker 1: the street. Step on that accelerator and turn it the
- 0:48Speaker 1: fuck up like Ggi Allen would. The stories about transgressive
- 1:05Speaker 1: punk rocker Gigi Allen are the most insane stories you'll
- 1:08Speaker 1: hear about any performer in the history of music. He
- 1:12Speaker 1: preached bestiality, incest, and pedophilia. He bludgeoned himself on stage
- 1:17Speaker 1: and would smear his fans faces with fresh blood he'd
- 1:21Speaker 1: binge xlax before shows and defecate in front of his
- 1:24Speaker 1: audience and share the results. More on that later. Upon
- 1:28Speaker 1: signing a recording contract with Homestead Records, Gigi literally pissed
- 1:33Speaker 1: on label chief Gerard Cosloy, and Gigi Allen would physically
- 1:37Speaker 1: assault his audience. He'd sexually assault his fans on and
- 1:41Speaker 1: off stage. One such sexual assault would land him in
- 1:45Speaker 1: prison for eighteen months, and all in all, he was
- 1:47Speaker 1: imprisoned more than fifty times. He was born to a
- 1:51Speaker 1: psychotic father in Lancaster, New Hampshire, who named him Jesus
- 1:55Speaker 1: Christ Allan because supposedly his boy was the new Messiah,
- 1:59Speaker 1: and Gi Gg's older brother couldn't pronounce Jesus because some
- 2:03Speaker 1: supreme being tied his tongue so as not to allow
- 2:05Speaker 1: such blasphemy be spoken that a Messiah could possibly come
- 2:09Speaker 1: from New Hampshire, so the cute little sibling nickname of
- 2:12Speaker 1: Gigi baby talk for Jesus stuck. The Allens lived in
- 2:17Speaker 1: a log cabin with no running water, and Gigi's dad
- 2:20Speaker 1: kept his family isolated from the outside world. Murder suicide
- 2:24Speaker 1: by the old man was constantly threatened. The apple didn't
- 2:27Speaker 1: fall too far because Gigi would grow up to infamously
- 2:31Speaker 1: claim that he was the rock and roll Messiah and
- 2:34Speaker 1: that his body was a sacrifice to his people, the
- 2:37Speaker 1: rock and roll underground, and that one day Gigi would
- 2:40Speaker 1: make the ultimate sacrifice for them. But beyond all of
- 2:44Speaker 1: this madness, gg Allen made great music. That's right, great music.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You don't believe me, fuck off, I'm right sorry, that's
- 2:52Speaker 1: what Gigi Allen would have said, but it doesn't make
- 2:54Speaker 1: me wrong. Gg Allen did make some great music. I mean,
- 2:58Speaker 1: there's a lot of shit to sift through, but if
- 2:59Speaker 1: you let it loud, hard and fast, then you can
- 3:02Speaker 1: hardly do better than Gigi's Hated in the Nation cassette
- 3:05Speaker 1: on Roar It's great That music at the top of
- 3:08Speaker 1: the show. That wasn't great music. That was a preset
- 3:11Speaker 1: loop from my mellotron called Fox Trot Swinging Flutes MK two.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I played you that loop because I can't afford the
- 3:20Speaker 1: rights for That's the Way Love Goes by Janet Jackson.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And why would I play you that specific slice of
- 3:26Speaker 1: down tempo fohemian cheese? Could I afford it? Because that
- 3:30Speaker 1: was the number one song on June twenty eighth, nineteen
- 3:33Speaker 1: ninety three, and that was the day that Gigi Allen,
- 3:36Speaker 1: the quote unquote only true rock and roller left in
- 3:39Speaker 1: the world, publicly claimed on national television that he'd kill
- 3:43Speaker 1: himself on stage and take his audience with him. On
- 3:47Speaker 1: this episode Fox Trot swinging flutes, transgressive punk, down tempo
- 3:52Speaker 1: fohemian cheese in the rock and roll Underground. Grab onto
- 3:56Speaker 1: your bowels, people, you're about to meet your god, Gigi Allen.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm Jake Brennan and this is disgrace man. Got up
- 4:19Speaker 1: and had a shitty breakfast, went back to lock up
- 4:21Speaker 1: and slept till ten shaved, got out and watched a
- 4:25Speaker 1: movie Tougher than Leather, then back to lock up to
- 4:28Speaker 1: jerk off. After dinner, I got a visit from Linda,
- 4:31Speaker 1: still through glass, but she showed me her shaved cunt.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I would have paid one hundred bucks to suck it,
- 4:36Speaker 1: but went back to my cell to jerk off again.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Used the phone all afternoon to try to get some
- 4:41Speaker 1: fucking money, went to lock up and wrote some lyrics,
- 4:44Speaker 1: started jerking off again. I'm getting a scab on the
- 4:46Speaker 1: end of my cock, wrote to Charles Manson today. I
- 4:50Speaker 1: was fucking withdrawn all night and just stayed to myself.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Gigi Allen was in jail again. Actually, this time it
- 4:57Speaker 1: was prison born Jesus Christ Alan and nickname Gigi Alan
- 5:02Speaker 1: may have shared our Lord and Saviour's name, but he
- 5:04Speaker 1: shared his penis size with Adolf Hitler's rumored micro penis.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I know this because Gigi performed in nothing but a
- 5:12Speaker 1: dog collar and combat mets and is beyond punk as
- 5:16Speaker 1: fuck performances where he was known to physically assault his audience,
- 5:20Speaker 1: punching them with the butt end of his microphone, spitting
- 5:23Speaker 1: on them, and worse, defecating on stage, smearing himself in
- 5:27Speaker 1: his own shit and throwing it at his paying crowds.
- 5:31Speaker 1: His performances regularly resulted with Gigi winding up in jail
- 5:35Speaker 1: for indecency or assault, and understandably so. But his latest
- 5:40Speaker 1: eighteen month prison stint was for something far worse. Assault
- 5:45Speaker 1: with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Sexual assault from the stage in the midst of Gigi
- 5:52Speaker 1: shows was old hat. It was nothing for Gigi to
- 5:55Speaker 1: jump off stage and grab a man or woman by
- 5:58Speaker 1: the ears and force his or her face into his filthy,
- 6:01Speaker 1: shitsmeared penis. This usually resulted in another audience member pummeling
- 6:06Speaker 1: the distracted front man with a clinched fist or a
- 6:09Speaker 1: steel toed boot, while his band, the Murder Junkies, including
- 6:13Speaker 1: his hitler mustachioed brother Merle on bass. A rotating cast
- 6:17Speaker 1: of characters, including for a moment, the legendary d d
- 6:20Speaker 1: Ramone on guitar, and of course Dino, the naked drummer,
- 6:24Speaker 1: all played on seemingly oblivious to the obscene spectacle playing
- 6:28Speaker 1: out in front of them. But sexual assault offstage that
- 6:34Speaker 1: was a different matter. Leslie Marie Morgan, a twenty five
- 6:38Speaker 1: year old waitress from ann Arbor, Michigan, wanted to marry
- 6:41Speaker 1: Gigi Allen, but first she wanted Gigi in the rest
- 6:45Speaker 1: of his band to come on her at the same time. However,
- 6:49Speaker 1: the complications of synchronized ejaculation being what they are, Leslie
- 6:54Speaker 1: would wind up disappointed, so the obsessed fan in Gigi
- 6:58Speaker 1: decided to grab some alone time and let's motel room.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Gigi Allen, who is on record stating that there is
- 7:04Speaker 1: no good sex without danger involved, handcuffed Leslie to the
- 7:08Speaker 1: bed and proceeded to burn her with cigarette butts and
- 7:11Speaker 1: cut her breasts and stomach with a butterfly knife. Gigi
- 7:15Speaker 1: later claimed that all this was done at Leslie's instruction,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and supposedly, when Leslie learned Gigi had no intention of
- 7:22Speaker 1: marrying her shocker, she then decided to report Gigi to
- 7:26Speaker 1: the police, or so went the story from Gigi, who
- 7:30Speaker 1: claimed he was being set up and whatever. Gg Allen's
- 7:33Speaker 1: abusive mistreatment of women is well documented, and whether you
- 7:36Speaker 1: believe his side of the story or Morgan's, I happen
- 7:39Speaker 1: to believe hers. The dude belonged behind bars, and that's
- 7:43Speaker 1: what happened. Gigi Allen came to the attention of the
- 7:46Speaker 1: FBI through his pen pal John Hinckley, that would be
- 7:50Speaker 1: assassin of President Ronald Reagan. Turns out Gigi had been
- 7:54Speaker 1: corresponding with Hinckley, whose mail from behind Bars was being
- 7:57Speaker 1: monitored by the FEDS, and when they ran Gigi's name,
- 8:01Speaker 1: they came up with the assault warrant in Michigan, and
- 8:03Speaker 1: Gigi was quickly snatched up, tried, and sentenced, which for
- 8:07Speaker 1: Gigi Allen fans was a drag because it meant that
- 8:10Speaker 1: Gigi would not be able to make do on a
- 8:12Speaker 1: promise he'd made them that on Halloween Night nineteen eighty nine,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Gigi Allen would kill himself on stage. I am in
- 8:42Speaker 1: this fucking dungeon, but the leader of the pack is
- 8:44Speaker 1: always the one who pays the price and takes the fall.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And to do what I do is like Russian roulette.
- 8:50Speaker 1: You have to be willing to go to jail if
- 8:52Speaker 1: there was only some way to escape. But as I
- 8:54Speaker 1: picked my brain apart with the thought and realize I
- 8:57Speaker 1: am here as a sacrifice of my art, Jesus Christ
- 9:00Speaker 1: was nailed to the cross and came back at my birth.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I now must suffer and die for all you fuckers
- 9:07Speaker 1: out there drinking, doping, fucking, rocking loud, obnoxious, pardoning, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: doing what I would be excessively doing. But because I
- 9:15Speaker 1: am king, I must pave the road of destruction for
- 9:17Speaker 1: all of you. Spill your blood from me while I
- 9:20Speaker 1: tear my skin apart for you and bleed. Underground societies
- 9:27Speaker 1: have long been part of our culture, of most every
- 9:30Speaker 1: culture actually here in America. The mafia, anarchists, the extreme
- 9:34Speaker 1: Antifa and alt right, white supremacist communists, the KKK, Nazi skinheads,
- 9:40Speaker 1: the Bloods, the Crips, the Weathermen, and the Molly Maguires
- 9:43Speaker 1: before all of them were each made up of groups
- 9:45Speaker 1: of people who lived outside the bounds of mainstream society
- 9:49Speaker 1: and therefore forced to exist underground. Gigi Allen lived outside
- 9:55Speaker 1: the bounds of the mainstream, and he saw himself as
- 9:57Speaker 1: the leader of his own anti social group, the Rock
- 10:00Speaker 1: and Roll Underground, a group of disenfranchised youth living out
- 10:04Speaker 1: on the margins. If you're over thirty five, maybe you
- 10:08Speaker 1: remember these kids. Dreadlocked crustpunks, panhandling outside of Kim's video
- 10:13Speaker 1: on Saint Mark's skinheads, slinging weed and playing hackey sack
- 10:17Speaker 1: with the hippies in the pit at Harvard Square. The
- 10:20Speaker 1: pre Nirvana midwestern teen with the cool cousin in Newhaven
- 10:23Speaker 1: who sent him the Revelation records comp but for whom
- 10:26Speaker 1: that was somehow not hard enough. The too smart for
- 10:29Speaker 1: his own good Ivy League drop out with the black
- 10:32Speaker 1: flag shirt who worked for the local moving company in
- 10:34Speaker 1: stank like beer at eight in the morning, While you
- 10:38Speaker 1: and your parents likely ignored these kids shuffling past them
- 10:41Speaker 1: in the street, hoping they didn't strike up conversations with
- 10:44Speaker 1: your girlfriend or your sister, gently reminding them to wipe
- 10:48Speaker 1: their feet and cover their mouths. These marginalized youths were
- 10:51Speaker 1: discovering and falling for Gigi Allen, who, if they didn't believe,
- 10:56Speaker 1: was actually their lord and savior, they at least believed
- 10:59Speaker 1: to be immensely more entertaining than whatever shit the mainstream
- 11:02Speaker 1: or lamestream punk cultures were peddling at the time. I mean,
- 11:06Speaker 1: the dude shoved hot dogs up his ass on stage
- 11:09Speaker 1: and then ate them. He bloodied himself in front of
- 11:11Speaker 1: his audience with broken beer bottles. He'd take any drug
- 11:15Speaker 1: you put in front of him, booze and pills and powders.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Choose your medicine. The rock and roll underground saw no limits,
- 11:23Speaker 1: no laws. It was total rebellion against mainstream music and culture.
- 11:28Speaker 1: While in prison, Gigi Allen honed his manifesto, If you
- 11:33Speaker 1: believe in the real underground of rock and roll, then
- 11:35Speaker 1: now is the time to do something about it. The
- 11:38Speaker 1: time is now to overthrow the current situations and declare
- 11:41Speaker 1: war on the record company's radio stations, publications, clubs, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: anyone who promotes the whole so called scene as it
- 11:48Speaker 1: now stands. We need to destroy it all and take
- 11:51Speaker 1: it back from the corporate phonies. And conformists. Action must
- 11:55Speaker 1: be taken now, and the blood must be spilled. It
- 12:00Speaker 1: was nineteen ninety one. Guns and Roses were riding high
- 12:03Speaker 1: on the charts, and Gigi hated them, saw them as
- 12:06Speaker 1: the ultimate betrayal of real rock and roll, total corporate
- 12:10Speaker 1: ass suck posers. To make matters worse, Gigi's beloved Ramones
- 12:14Speaker 1: were cozying up to Axel and Slash in hopes of
- 12:17Speaker 1: landing some opening slots for what was at the time
- 12:20Speaker 1: the world's biggest band. This disgusted Gigi. In Gigi's mind,
- 12:25Speaker 1: guns and Roses were to be destroyed, not praised, and
- 12:28Speaker 1: definitely not by the fucking Ramones. After penning his manifest
- 12:33Speaker 1: to imprison and upon his release, Gigi was focused. This
- 12:37Speaker 1: was no longer just about drinking, fucking, and fighting. This
- 12:40Speaker 1: was war, and Gigi saw himself as the ultimate weapon,
- 12:44Speaker 1: a ballistic missile of filth and destruction to be deployed
- 12:47Speaker 1: by the rock and roll underground at his discretion against society,
- 12:51Speaker 1: his theater of war, the stage. His shows were not
- 12:55Speaker 1: to entertain, but to annihilate all the blood, shit, pissed,
- 13:00Speaker 1: physical and sexual assault that he pummeled his audience with
- 13:03Speaker 1: wasn't to shock. It was to subvert, to break down
- 13:06Speaker 1: any and all remaining social norms in his quest to
- 13:09Speaker 1: destroy society, and that meant taking his act as far
- 13:13Speaker 1: as it could go. That meant making the ultimate sacrifice,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and that meant doing the unthinkable. This is the decade
- 13:22Speaker 1: for final mutilation. Time to get rock and Roll out
- 13:25Speaker 1: of the hands of the masses and back to the
- 13:27Speaker 1: people who will not accept comfort or conformity at any cost.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Then I will commit suicide on stage, and the blood
- 13:35Speaker 1: of rock and roll will become the poison of the
- 13:37Speaker 1: universe forever. Talk is fucking cheap. We'll be right back
- 13:46Speaker 1: after this word, word word, Samuel Beckett, William Shakespeare, Gigi Allen.
- 13:55Speaker 1: This troika was what Judge John Jay Demato was pondering
- 13:58Speaker 1: in Room six point twenty three of the Vaukee County
- 14:00Speaker 1: Courthouse in MacArthur's Square in March of nineteen eighty nine.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Gigi's court appointed lawyer, Peter Goldberg, was trying to make
- 14:08Speaker 1: the case that Gig's performance was part of an artistic
- 14:11Speaker 1: tradition scatology. Incorporating human excrement into one's work was merely
- 14:17Speaker 1: an artistic statement, and Ggi Allen should be afforded the
- 14:20Speaker 1: same freedom of expression as Billy Shakespeare before him. The
- 14:24Speaker 1: judge called bullshit and sentenced Gigi to ninety days in
- 14:27Speaker 1: jail for indecency, more specifically for shitting on the stage
- 14:31Speaker 1: of Milwaukee's Old Rock Cafe and for then throwing it
- 14:35Speaker 1: at his audience. It was official, taking a dump on
- 14:38Speaker 1: stage was not art. Prison sucked, So Gigi masturbated out
- 14:44Speaker 1: of boredom a lot, supposedly by his count, more than
- 14:48Speaker 1: one hundred times and thirty days. But today it was different.
- 14:52Speaker 1: He had visitors, two young kids, one from somewhere in
- 14:56Speaker 1: the Northwest, the other from Kansas City. They were both
- 14:59Speaker 1: punk and fans of Gigi's The short one, Kurt was
- 15:03Speaker 1: his name. With the acne and greasy blonde hair, his
- 15:06Speaker 1: band Nirvana sounded a Gigi like a bunch of wannabe
- 15:10Speaker 1: sellout corporate crap. The other kid's band, the Flaming Lips,
- 15:14Speaker 1: sounded like a disease you'd get from hanging out down
- 15:16Speaker 1: by the piers. Gigi told him to get the fuck
- 15:19Speaker 1: out of there with their lame asses. Almost as soon
- 15:21Speaker 1: as he received them, he spat at them and told
- 15:23Speaker 1: them they looked like a couple of quote unquote Kansas
- 15:25Speaker 1: City faggots who wanted their dick sucked, so they bounced.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And in no time Gigi bounced out of jail and
- 15:32Speaker 1: then back into jail, and then out of jail and
- 15:35Speaker 1: then back in again, and the arrest for a decency
- 15:37Speaker 1: assault and various parole violations were constantly landing Gigi behind bars.
- 15:43Speaker 1: The jail time did wonders for his rock and roll
- 15:45Speaker 1: outlaw image, but caused Gigi to reneg on his promise
- 15:49Speaker 1: of killing himself on stage on Halloween nineteen eighty nine
- 15:53Speaker 1: because he was locked up then when he promised to
- 15:56Speaker 1: make good on a suicidal pledge the following year on
- 15:58Speaker 1: Halloween nineteen ninety and he landed behind bars once again,
- 16:01Speaker 1: thwarting his suicide, the rock and roll underground started to smell.
- 16:05Speaker 1: A rat claim started to bubble up in the punk
- 16:08Speaker 1: rock press of Gigi being a false messiah, a publicity
- 16:12Speaker 1: star of shock rocking charlatan whose only interest was in
- 16:16Speaker 1: selling records in tickets to his shows. No better than
- 16:19Speaker 1: Alice Cooper or Guns and Posers. June twenty fourth, nineteen
- 16:24Speaker 1: ninety three, a Manhattan television studio, The Jane Whitney Show,
- 16:29Speaker 1: part Sally Jesse, Raphael part Jerry Springer, early nineties television
- 16:34Speaker 1: pre reality TV. The gig was to grab a bunch
- 16:37Speaker 1: of marginal figures and throw them up on stage in
- 16:39Speaker 1: front of a live TV audience and see what kind
- 16:41Speaker 1: of shit starts on the panel. Today a mix of flamboyant,
- 16:46Speaker 1: drugged out club kids, including the notorious Michael Alec, a
- 16:50Speaker 1: straight laced cop from Nutley, New Jersey in a cheap suit,
- 16:53Speaker 1: and on the other side of him, two punk rock
- 16:56Speaker 1: women in Gigi Allen. Gigi shaved bald for battle, thick handlebar, mustache,
- 17:02Speaker 1: tattooed chest, barreling out of his leather jacket, dog collar
- 17:05Speaker 1: shorts and combat boots. He was in peak form, amped
- 17:09Speaker 1: the fuck up, taking every opportunity to verbally go at
- 17:12Speaker 1: the cop Sergeant Steve Rogers preaching his normal rap, real
- 17:16Speaker 1: rock and roll, the underground, rape, incest beast reality, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: doing his best to somehow ignore the spectacle of Alec
- 17:24Speaker 1: and the rest of the club kids on the other
- 17:26Speaker 1: side of the stage. Sergeant Rogers couldn't let any of
- 17:30Speaker 1: it go. He compared Gigi to Hitler, and Gigi stood up,
- 17:33Speaker 1: pointing and yelling into the crowd, I'm gonna have your daughter.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna have your daughter. He told the cop he
- 17:39Speaker 1: could have any woman he wanted, and that the cop
- 17:41Speaker 1: was probably married to some old, fat bitch, and the
- 17:44Speaker 1: audience booed, cheered, laughed nervously. Alex spread out flamboyantly on
- 17:48Speaker 1: the stage, doing his best Marilyn Monroe, and for the
- 17:51Speaker 1: most part he was ignored. This was now the Gigi
- 17:54Speaker 1: Allen Show, and that's when it happened. Just when it
- 17:58Speaker 1: seemed like there were no more lines to cross on
- 18:00Speaker 1: national television, Allen looked into the camera and said, I
- 18:04Speaker 1: live this life every day. When I'm on stage, it's
- 18:07Speaker 1: my therapy, and the ultimate performance will be when I
- 18:10Speaker 1: reach my peak. I'll commit suicide and I'll take your
- 18:13Speaker 1: kids with me. The crowd was silent, and Jane Whitney
- 18:18Speaker 1: looked at and asked, what does that mean, you'll take
- 18:21Speaker 1: our kids with you. Gigi sat back in his chair
- 18:24Speaker 1: and calmly said, it means I'll kill them too. He
- 18:29Speaker 1: then leaned forward into the camera and said, when you've
- 18:31Speaker 1: reached your peak, it's time to die.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Well, my body is the rock and roll temple, and
- 18:55Speaker 2: my flesh, blood, and body floors are a communion to
- 18:58Speaker 2: the people, whether they like it or not. I mean,
- 19:00Speaker 2: I'm not not out to please anybody. My rock and
- 19:04Speaker 2: roll is more not to entertain, but to annihilate. I'm
- 19:08Speaker 2: trying to bring danger back, and you're on your role.
- 19:10Speaker 1: A day after the Jane Whitney televised shit show, gg
- 19:14Speaker 1: Allen and the Murder Junkies were scheduled to play the
- 19:16Speaker 1: gas Station in East Village performance space that was, of course,
- 19:20Speaker 1: once an actual gas station on the corner of Avenue
- 19:23Speaker 1: B in the East second Street in Manhattan. News of
- 19:26Speaker 1: the live suicide pluge on television had Gigi fans thinking
- 19:30Speaker 1: that this might finally be the day, This might finally
- 19:33Speaker 1: be the show where Gigi did it, where he killed
- 19:36Speaker 1: himself on stage. But that day Gigi was doing his
- 19:40Speaker 1: best to kill himself off stage. Gigi Allen was holed
- 19:45Speaker 1: up across the street from the club at his friend
- 19:48Speaker 1: Johnny Puke's apartment, a five story walk up. Johnny's girlfriend,
- 19:52Speaker 1: Gigi a girl, been hanging out with photographer Richard Kern.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Members of the Murder Junkies, who were all day drinking
- 19:58Speaker 1: and waiting for Johnny to return from a coke run.
- 20:01Speaker 1: They didn't have to wait long. Johnny darted across the
- 20:04Speaker 1: street to one of those long gone New York City delis.
- 20:07Speaker 1: We bang on the locked door adjacent to the store.
- 20:09Speaker 1: A voice would ask you what you wanted. You'd name
- 20:11Speaker 1: your drug in the amount, put the money into the slot,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and within seconds your coke came to be pushed back
- 20:16Speaker 1: through anonymously. The coke was a welcome distraction. There was
- 20:21Speaker 1: a lot of time before the show. Gigi builve in
- 20:24Speaker 1: head first. The blow helped me get into the red
- 20:27Speaker 1: headspace to perform. Gigibrew line after line after line and
- 20:31Speaker 1: talked crazy manifesto. BS Underground was the way he was
- 20:36Speaker 1: their leader. He showed them at the show tonight. Jane
- 20:38Speaker 1: Whitney won a bitch fucked that cop too in the
- 20:41Speaker 1: skinny little faggot in the limelight. While he was at it,
- 20:45Speaker 1: more coke was needed. Johnny Pugh hit the deli again
- 20:48Speaker 1: and then bolted back up the stairs through his apartment,
- 20:51Speaker 1: dumped the coke on the table for Gigi to dive
- 20:53Speaker 1: into it again. So it did in between polls from
- 20:56Speaker 1: his bottle of jim bean. It was late afternoon to showtime,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and Gigi was turned up, not yet ready to perform.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Tonight was going to be different, Tonight was going to
- 21:07Speaker 1: be special, and he had best prepare accordingly. He did
- 21:11Speaker 1: another line, and he was twitching, sucking on his gums,
- 21:15Speaker 1: bouncing his right leg uncontrollably. His wide eyes scanned the
- 21:19Speaker 1: room for non believers. Sweat started to slip down out
- 21:23Speaker 1: from under the only thing in the world that he
- 21:25Speaker 1: actually loved, his vintage black Nazi World War two helmet.
- 21:30Speaker 1: He did another line. The Ramones pet Cemetery made its
- 21:33Speaker 1: way out of Johnny Puke's boombox. Despite Gigi's better instincts,
- 21:38Speaker 1: he found himself digging the song, but he'd never say so.
- 21:43Speaker 1: He did another line, Fuck the Ramones, fucking posers and
- 21:47Speaker 1: fucked deed too.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Another line.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Pet Cemetery kept playing from the boombox. Gigi thought of
- 21:54Speaker 1: being buried. He thought of a grave. It brought Gigi
- 21:57Speaker 1: back to that place of ultimate darkness. He couldn't have
- 22:01Speaker 1: been more than nine or ten years old. His father
- 22:03Speaker 1: had called him down to the basement, and Gigi descended
- 22:07Speaker 1: the creaky steps and turned to see his imposing dad
- 22:09Speaker 1: grinning at his work. He showed his young son what
- 22:12Speaker 1: he'd done there in the dirt floor basement. He dug
- 22:17Speaker 1: four graves, one for him, one for his mom, one
- 22:21Speaker 1: for his older brother Merle, and one for him Jesus
- 22:24Speaker 1: Christ Allan. Someone turned up the boombox, He'll moon snapped
- 22:30Speaker 1: Gigi out of it. Gigi did another line, then another
- 22:34Speaker 1: someone mentioned that the band was ready for him. The
- 22:37Speaker 1: tiny makeshift club was jammed, two hundred kids all waiting
- 22:41Speaker 1: for him, and Gigi knew why this show was packed.
- 22:44Speaker 1: It was punk rock, Harry Carrie time. Kids, This Sunday, Sunday, Sunday,
- 22:49Speaker 1: your rock and roll Messiah is gonna off himself in
- 22:52Speaker 1: public and you get to watch it. Lie Lie Lie,
- 22:56Speaker 1: The rock and roll underground smell of blood, and they
- 22:59Speaker 1: thought no. They hoped that this was the show where
- 23:02Speaker 1: Gigi would kill himself as he promised on the Jane
- 23:05Speaker 1: Whitney Show. But Gigi wasn't ready. More coke, more jim Bean.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Someone blasted the boom box. The stooges Gimme Danger bled
- 23:14Speaker 1: out all over the room. Sinister iggy pop slinky baritone
- 23:19Speaker 1: wrapped itself around the ears of everyone in the room
- 23:22Speaker 1: like a snake charmer on an overnight shift. Gigi's mood
- 23:28Speaker 1: was changing from darkness to white light, white heat seeking
- 23:32Speaker 1: human fuck machine. What the hell time was it? Were
- 23:35Speaker 1: they going to do this show or what? Gigi pulled
- 23:38Speaker 1: off his bottle of jim Bean under the smoke, he
- 23:41Speaker 1: was sweating profusely. Now he could feel the walls of
- 23:43Speaker 1: his skull trembling. His heart was pounding. He swore he
- 23:47Speaker 1: could see his breastplate rising. His hands shook, He could
- 23:50Speaker 1: feel the blood pulsing to his dick. He knew it
- 23:53Speaker 1: for sure, now he was ten feet fucking tall. He
- 23:56Speaker 1: then quickly dive bombed his face into a fat line
- 23:58Speaker 1: of coke, craned his head up like a punk rock cobra.
- 24:01Speaker 1: His eyes closed, rolled backward into his skull. His body
- 24:05Speaker 1: froze for a moment. Holding a roll dollar bill in
- 24:08Speaker 1: his right hand, he slowly opened his eyes, stared vacantly
- 24:11Speaker 1: across the room, and said, now it's done. Gigi bounded
- 24:30Speaker 1: down the stairs, across Avenue B and through the ravel
- 24:32Speaker 1: of punks hanging outside, into the front door, through the crowd,
- 24:36Speaker 1: and up onto the stage. The audience was giddy, intense
- 24:40Speaker 1: with the sight of Gigi wearing nothing but combat boots,
- 24:42Speaker 1: women's pandies, and a dog collar. He grabbed the mic
- 24:45Speaker 1: and bashed himself in the forehead. Blood immediately covered his face.
- 24:50Speaker 1: The audience went ape shit. The band launched him to shoot, knife,
- 24:53Speaker 1: strangle beat and crucified Gigi's anthem to the Rock and
- 24:56Speaker 1: Roll Underground.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And.
- 25:11Speaker 1: When they did, Gigi jumped off the stairs, took a
- 25:14Speaker 1: swing at the nearest audience member and landed his fist
- 25:16Speaker 1: in the side of his head. The dude swung back
- 25:19Speaker 1: at Gigi. Gigi, not missing a beat, continued to spit
- 25:22Speaker 1: out the vocals while swinging wildly of his fan. The
- 25:25Speaker 1: band played on. The audience was riveted. The chorus hit
- 25:28Speaker 1: and Gigi knew that this show was it. The crowd
- 25:31Speaker 1: was with him. The rock and Roll Underground was ready
- 25:34Speaker 1: for a moment anyway, but in the end, the chaos
- 25:37Speaker 1: proved to be too much. After one song, the audience
- 25:40Speaker 1: cleared out, they were scared shitless, and the club owner
- 25:44Speaker 1: pulled the plug. Literally. Gigi was incensed and freaked the
- 25:48Speaker 1: fuck out. He started berating the sound man, throwing barstools,
- 25:53Speaker 1: crazed with blood covering his head and face. Shit, when
- 25:56Speaker 1: did that happen? Smearing his chest. Maybe it was just
- 25:58Speaker 1: always there now. Gigi followed his fearful minions out of
- 26:01Speaker 1: the club onto the sidewalk, screaming at them pussies, posers.
- 26:06Speaker 1: He then ran straight onto East Second Street and threw
- 26:09Speaker 1: himself naked in front of a bus. The bus managed
- 26:12Speaker 1: to stop in time. The crowd on the street lost it.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Gigi heard the sound of sirens. Someone had called the cops. Fuck.
- 26:21Speaker 1: If Gigi couldn't kill himself, he shit sure wasn't going
- 26:23Speaker 1: back to jail, not again. He tried to casually blend
- 26:28Speaker 1: into the sidewalk traffic and walk his way out of
- 26:30Speaker 1: the chaos he'd started. But blending in wasn't an option
- 26:33Speaker 1: for Gigi Allen. He was a six foot tall ball
- 26:36Speaker 1: dude with a handlebar mustache, wearing only women's panties and
- 26:39Speaker 1: combat roots, covered in blood and feces, walking down the
- 26:42Speaker 1: street in broad daylight, and worse than that, there was
- 26:46Speaker 1: a crowd of punk rockers gathering behind him. Shit, this
- 26:49Speaker 1: was bad. Gigi, in his small entourage, told the punkers
- 26:53Speaker 1: to fuck off and stop following him, but it was
- 26:55Speaker 1: no use. The scatological pied piper had gutting what he
- 26:59Speaker 1: wished for punk rock messiah status. His rock and roll
- 27:03Speaker 1: underground followers weren't going to miss out on the chance
- 27:05Speaker 1: to see their hero off himself, so they ignored Gigi's
- 27:09Speaker 1: please to stop following him and kept up their pursuit
- 27:11Speaker 1: through the streets of the East Village, and Gigi hailed
- 27:15Speaker 1: a cab and jumped in the back seat with his crew,
- 27:17Speaker 1: and the driver almost pissed himself. Uh, get out, I'm
- 27:20Speaker 1: calling the cops. The driver bailed on his own cab.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Gigi and company were forced to get out and high
- 27:26Speaker 1: tail it back through Saint Mark's over to Johnny Puke's place.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Somehow they made it without getting consumed by the crowd
- 27:33Speaker 1: or picked up by the cops, and Gigi was safe
- 27:36Speaker 1: from prison anyway, but not from death, despite his efforts
- 27:41Speaker 1: to kill himself on stage or in the middle of
- 27:43Speaker 1: East second Street by throwing himself in front of a bus.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Gigi Allen would indeed die that day, but in the
- 27:50Speaker 1: most cliched rock star way possible, on the floor of
- 27:53Speaker 1: Johnny Puke's shitty fifth floor walk up from a heroin overdose.
- 27:58Speaker 1: That night, after the sh and after the romp through
- 28:01Speaker 1: the East Village with his minions in hot pursuit, Gigi
- 28:04Speaker 1: would make his way back to his friend's apartment and
- 28:07Speaker 1: proceed to snirt copious amounts of heroin. In the end,
- 28:11Speaker 1: he laid down to sleep, worrying what he wore on
- 28:13Speaker 1: stage that day, with the addition, of course, of his
- 28:16Speaker 1: prize Nazi helmet. He closed his eyes and never opened
- 28:20Speaker 1: them again. He was dead, and what a cop out.
- 28:27Speaker 1: To Gigi's true fans. His death was tragic, but not
- 28:30Speaker 1: for the reasons you'd expect. To Gigi's fans, Gigi Allen
- 28:35Speaker 1: blew it. He should have died as he said he
- 28:37Speaker 1: would live, in front of his followers, by his own
- 28:41Speaker 1: hand suicide right on stage. It would have been enough
- 28:45Speaker 1: for their teenage lust. It would have been unlike any
- 28:48Speaker 1: other performer, reform or instead in the streets in front
- 28:54Speaker 1: of his fans, who'd finally fully galvanized behind him. Literally,
- 28:58Speaker 1: they were there, ready willing, able to not only watch
- 29:02Speaker 1: him die, but to do whatever he wanted them to.
- 29:05Speaker 1: It was a missed opportunity, and to cap it all off.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Instead of making history and going out in a punk
- 29:11Speaker 1: rock ways of glory, Gigi Allen died a pedestrian's death
- 29:15Speaker 1: like a common junkie like Jim Morrison, Sid Vicious, Janis
- 29:20Speaker 1: Joplin and the rest of the cliched corporate rock hacks
- 29:23Speaker 1: who came before him like a truth sello. I'm Jake
