- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into Jag Zam.
- 0:17Speaker 2: I'm Hanani Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Ogier with me, and
- 0:20Speaker 2: we are back for our first episode of the 2026
- 0:23Speaker 2: regular season. Jaguars are going to play football this week,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and we are very, very excited about it. Today's show
- 0:29Speaker 2: brought to you by Lowe's, but let's get into our
- 0:30Speaker 2: big things brought to you by GEHA.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Government Employees Health Association.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Big thing number one is finally, we've been here for
- 0:36Speaker 2: weeks doing training camp, preseason, but Brian, they're going to
- 0:39Speaker 2: play real football on Sunday in week one.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Well, I don't think anybody can wait. You know, last
- 0:44Speaker 3: season ended with just such a, it just felt like
- 0:47Speaker 3: a letdown because they'd been building, John, for eight weeks.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And we saw the offense go from one that was
- 0:52Speaker 3: struggling to get its footing to one of the best
- 0:54Speaker 3: in the league. We saw a defense that two years
- 0:57Speaker 3: ago couldn't get a takeaway. And last year, was second
- 0:59Speaker 3: in the league with 31. It was building with such
- 1:02Speaker 3: great momentum. And then like that, it was over. So
- 1:05Speaker 3: I know personally for me, I can't recall the last
- 1:07Speaker 3: time that I went from the end of one season
- 1:09Speaker 3: to the beginning of the next. So looking forward to
- 1:12Speaker 3: see where this would be, because as all the coaches said,
- 1:15Speaker 3: you don't leave the rock at the top of the hill.
- 1:17Speaker 3: It goes back down. You got to push it all
- 1:19Speaker 3: the way back up. And that process starts this week
- 1:22Speaker 3: against the Browns.
- 1:24Speaker 4: All right, ready? Put it on. Let's go. Football, baby.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's real. I mean, it is exciting. Everything
- 1:31Speaker 4: Brian said is exactly true. I thought the tone was
- 1:35Speaker 4: set all offseason by Liam Cohen immediately realizing last year's over.
- 1:41Speaker 4: They have to get back to the top. All that stuff.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I mean, more importantly, you never felt the vibe in
- 1:47Speaker 4: the building. You never felt the vibe talking to players
- 1:50Speaker 4: that there was a danger of them thinking, well, we
- 1:53Speaker 4: did this last year. It's a year-to-year league, but I
- 1:57Speaker 4: got some more things to say later on in the
- 1:58Speaker 4: show about how people perceive this team, the weirdness of it.
- 2:02Speaker 4: But it's week one. We're ready to go, Kai.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Let's do it. Our second big thing is get ready.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Now, they had an extra week this year, kind of
- 2:10Speaker 2: a bye week of sorts before the regular season starts.
- 2:12Speaker 2: That makes us all the more excited to actually see
- 2:14Speaker 2: them out there. But it gives a little extra time
- 2:16Speaker 2: for some of those guys that are banged up right now. So, obviously,
- 2:18Speaker 2: Colvin Landon coming off that knee surgery in the offseason. And, John,
- 2:22Speaker 2: also LaQuinn Allen, who's been dealing with a soft tissue injury,
- 2:26Speaker 2: helps him get a little bit more ready. You think
- 2:27Speaker 2: we'll see either of those guys in week one?
- 2:29Speaker 4: Yeah. I talked to Buscelli right before this last weekend,
- 2:33Speaker 4: and he voiced sort of the opposite of what you
- 2:35Speaker 4: just said. He was a player in the 90s, Brian,
- 2:39Speaker 4: so he was ready to go because once that cut
- 2:42Speaker 4: list is gone. So, he said, John, I did. It
- 2:45Speaker 4: almost makes me a little nervous. But the second side
- 2:49Speaker 4: of that is it does give a chance to get
- 2:51Speaker 4: guys ready. And I think we'll find out about Cole
- 2:55Speaker 4: Van Lannen on Wednesday when he practices or doesn't practice.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I think that'll be a good indication. It's hard to
- 3:03Speaker 4: imagine him playing if he doesn't practice after all this time.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I kind of get the idea. I haven't asked about
- 3:11Speaker 4: LeQuint specifically. I kind of get the idea that maybe
- 3:14Speaker 4: a couple of weeks out, But that's what the injury
- 3:16Speaker 4: report on Wednesday is about. Those are my guesses, Brian.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Well, and I'm with you, especially, listen, if you don't
- 3:22Speaker 3: practice during the week, it doesn't matter what position you play,
- 3:25Speaker 3: you are not up to speed and ready to go
- 3:27Speaker 3: on Sunday. And, Kai, we're talking about a guy that
- 3:29Speaker 3: didn't do any teamwork at all during training camp. So
- 3:32Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised if he was a guy that
- 3:35Speaker 3: was two or three weeks away as well, John, because
- 3:38Speaker 3: they've got depth. They can put Walker Little, who really
- 3:40Speaker 3: had a good camp. He had an injury in there
- 3:42Speaker 3: that slowed him down at the first week with the Saints–
- 3:45Speaker 3: and the Saints' preseason game. But overall, I thought he
- 3:48Speaker 3: was very good against the Panthers and the Buccaneers and
- 3:51Speaker 3: is a guy that they feel very comfortable with. So
- 3:54Speaker 3: there's no need to rush it. Colby and Lynn isn't
- 3:57Speaker 3: ready to go. It isn't like the Jaguars have a
- 3:59Speaker 3: problem stopping Myles Garrett.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It's a good problem.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's not a good problem to have. I mean, excuse me,
- 4:05Speaker 2: they're going to find a way to do that no
- 4:07Speaker 2: matter who is out on the field. And our final
- 4:09Speaker 2: big thing today is going to be keep it going.
- 4:12Speaker 2: We talked a ton about what the Jaguars did the
- 4:14Speaker 2: back end of last season, and a lot of that
- 4:16Speaker 2: was due to Trevor Lawrence's play. Brian, Trevor stepped it up.
- 4:20Speaker 2: He got himself into the MVP conversation almost. But how
- 4:23Speaker 2: do they pick up that offense with a lot of
- 4:25Speaker 2: different moving parts now? Obviously, Travis Etienne no longer here.
- 4:28Speaker 2: How do they get that going from week one?
- 4:31Speaker 4: It's Trevor.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And John can speak to this more precisely because he
- 4:34Speaker 3: was there through all of the iterations around Peyton Manning.
- 4:37Speaker 3: But he's the straw that stirs the drink, and everything
- 4:40Speaker 3: they do is going to be generated around him. And
- 4:44Speaker 3: it's part of my hot take for later in the show,
- 4:46Speaker 3: so I won't go too far on it, other than
- 4:47Speaker 3: to say that I was super impressed with the way
- 4:50Speaker 3: that Trevor was ready for camp every day. It seemed
- 4:53Speaker 3: as if he was in control last year in that
- 4:56Speaker 3: eight-game stretch, John. He really just seemed poised and in
- 4:59Speaker 3: control yesterday. at every moment of training camp. And the
- 5:02Speaker 3: thing that I like the most is if he had
- 5:03Speaker 3: a bad drill, if he had a bad day, the
- 5:06Speaker 3: next opportunity, he was really good. He was resilient and
- 5:09Speaker 3: rebounded from any difficulty during camp. He's the guy that
- 5:13Speaker 3: will pull it all together.
- 5:15Speaker 4: He's the core of it. The fact that you, I
- 5:18Speaker 4: believe after watching last season, if I thought his floor
- 5:22Speaker 4: was here before, I now think it's here, meaning even
- 5:26Speaker 4: if he doesn't have MVP year, He's going to be
- 5:30Speaker 4: a good player that they can build around that's going
- 5:32Speaker 4: to make plays. Sometimes how you're lauded changes year to year.
- 5:37Speaker 4: He was lauded last year, maybe won't be this year.
- 5:39Speaker 4: But I think he's going to be good. I think
- 5:42Speaker 4: the other side of that is they believe they're going
- 5:45Speaker 4: to be a better, more solid running offense, therefore a
- 5:49Speaker 4: more balanced offense. I thought this offense was as good
- 5:52Speaker 4: as any I've covered since the Colts, meaning the last
- 5:54Speaker 4: 15 years. Maybe best in Jaguars history. And I think
- 5:58Speaker 4: it's going to be better this year. I don't see
- 6:00Speaker 4: why it wouldn't be based on what I think they're
- 6:03Speaker 4: trying to do. Arrow's up, and the big reason is 16.
- 6:08Speaker 2: All right, that's Jags AM's start for you today. We're
- 6:12Speaker 2: going to continue throughout, answer some of your fan questions
- 6:14Speaker 2: after the break.
- 6:15Speaker 3: This broadcast is ozone friendly.
- 6:25Speaker 4: The Ozone.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Welcome back to Jags AM.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And of course, we've got to answer the fan questions.
- 6:32Speaker 1: John does a wonderful job of answering every single day.
- 6:35Speaker 4: I do a job.
- 6:36Speaker 1: They pay you to do it. So let's not oversell it.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But we do appreciate you sharing all your wisdom as always.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So let's get to our first question, which is a
- 6:45Speaker 2: little bit about the new stadium renderings that have come out.
- 6:49Speaker 4: So.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Roscoe from Southside says, thanks to the Jags for the
- 6:52Speaker 2: new renderings in the stadium in the future.
- 6:53Speaker 1: A little bit more of what it's actually going to
- 6:54Speaker 1: look like, right?
- 6:55Speaker 2: So I still have a concern about the heat and
- 6:57Speaker 2: the temperature in the stadium during those 1 p.m. September-October games.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Are they going to have A.C. in the general seating
- 7:03Speaker 2: areas or the boxed premium seating areas?
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, if I've got one question about this, Brian, I
- 7:09Speaker 4: get it all the time. It's not going to be
- 7:13Speaker 4: air-conditioned in the main area, but the covering and the
- 7:19Speaker 4: wind flow is going to be designed to take care
- 7:23Speaker 4: of that. I'm not an engineer, so I don't have
- 7:27Speaker 4: a little rendering of the stadium at home where I
- 7:29Speaker 4: can test this. But there's really smart people involved.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yes, there are.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Who, as I wrote, this is not Spicoli's dad with
- 7:36Speaker 4: his ultimate set of tools working on this.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Fast Times reference.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I think the people involved with this, it's been done
- 7:43Speaker 4: in Miami. Not their stadium, but another facility down there.
- 7:48Speaker 4: This is the way things are going. I'm not smart
- 7:52Speaker 4: enough to explain why it's going to work. I just
- 7:55Speaker 4: kind of trust it's going to work because that's how
- 7:56Speaker 4: they're going.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I have a couple things to add to it. You
- 7:59Speaker 3: always like to talk about the air-conditioned press box.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I love the air-conditioned press box.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. So I can tell you that when the
- 8:05Speaker 3: window was open for the broadcast during the preseason, It
- 8:09Speaker 3: was noticeable, the airflow. They had cut out those corners already.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And you could feel it. And listen, it was warm
- 8:16Speaker 3: in the beginning of the broadcast in the front of
- 8:17Speaker 3: the booth because the sun was out. But you could
- 8:20Speaker 3: still feel the air moving. So there's a noticeable change already.
- 8:24Speaker 3: And when Mark Lamping came during the Panthers broadcast, he's like,
- 8:28Speaker 3: did you guys feel that? Absolutely. Both Bucky and I did.
- 8:30Speaker 3: So there is airflow that was not there before because
- 8:33Speaker 3: there's four corners of the stadium that are open. And
- 8:36Speaker 3: the other thing is the difference between, I'm told, a
- 8:38Speaker 3: roof and a canopy, which is what they're calling this,
- 8:41Speaker 3: is a roof would mean it's completely enclosed and would
- 8:45Speaker 3: be temperature regulated, air conditioning. But this is more like
- 8:48Speaker 3: SoFi in Southern California, where it's going to be outdoors,
- 8:53Speaker 3: but it's going to have that canopy over the top
- 8:55Speaker 3: that's going to cut the heat load and the wind
- 8:58Speaker 3: flow through there, which I just told you is already there.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You can feel it. I think it'll be fine. You
- 9:03Speaker 3: know what it's like when you step from the sun
- 9:05Speaker 3: into the shade, which we do a lot, it's going
- 9:08Speaker 3: to be markedly cooler. But there is considerable airflow. We
- 9:12Speaker 3: felt it on a night where there wasn't that much
- 9:14Speaker 3: wind against Carolina.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Just being out of the sun alone, that's what gets
- 9:18Speaker 2: me in September, October, those games. And I'm sure the
- 9:21Speaker 2: fans feel it over three hours sitting in seats that
- 9:23Speaker 2: are in the baking sun.
- 9:24Speaker 4: People have brutal memories. Look, I joke about the air
- 9:27Speaker 4: conditioning press box, but it's hot inside that bowl in
- 9:31Speaker 4: September with the sun beating down on you. They're addressing it.
- 9:34Speaker 4: I have faith it's going to work.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I think one of the reasons for your faith is
- 9:37Speaker 3: also they knew that this was the biggest issue with
- 9:40Speaker 3: the new stadium. And they've known it for years and years,
- 9:42Speaker 3: predating Mr. Kahn and Mark Lamping. The Weavers knew that
- 9:46Speaker 3: this was something, but it was just such a big lift.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And Kahn, Lamping, and the crew decided it had to
- 9:52Speaker 3: be done, came up with a plan. They wouldn't do
- 9:54Speaker 3: it halfway so that it didn't have a significant impact.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Because guess what? Then you have people that go, it's
- 9:58Speaker 3: too hot to go there in September.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And October.
- 10:01Speaker 3: This is all designed to fit within the framework of
- 10:05Speaker 3: a deal that works good for Jacksonville and the Jaguars
- 10:07Speaker 3: and for you when you're sitting in those stands. You'll
- 10:10Speaker 3: feel it.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Let's go to our second fan question. It's not G.I.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Joe from Jax.
- 10:13Speaker 2: He says, do players on injured reserve with designation to
- 10:16Speaker 2: return get paid while on injured reserve? If so, is
- 10:19Speaker 2: the amount the regular paycheck that they would get from
- 10:21Speaker 2: their contract, or is it another figure due to them
- 10:24Speaker 2: not being on the active roster?
- 10:25Speaker 4: They get paid their check. I mean, it's whatever contract
- 10:29Speaker 4: they agree to, if you get put on injured reserve,
- 10:32Speaker 4: for as long as you're on injured reserve, you get that.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I caused a little bit of a stir in the
- 10:37Speaker 4: ozone because I said you don't. penalize a guy for
- 10:41Speaker 4: being hurt. And I got a million examples of people
- 10:44Speaker 4: in other walks of life who get penalized for being hurt. Well,
- 10:47Speaker 4: I'm talking about the NFL.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Where people get hurt.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Yeah. If you're on injured reserve, you get paid.
- 10:52Speaker 3: There is a split contract that they use with lower
- 10:55Speaker 3: round draft choices for guys that end up on injured reserve,
- 10:58Speaker 3: but that's in the contract.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:59Speaker 3: So they are paid. You're right. They're paid what their
- 11:01Speaker 3: contract says they are paid. It all also revolves around
- 11:05Speaker 3: the salary cap. Can you imagine the games that people
- 11:07Speaker 3: would play? With the salary cap, with guys on injured reserves,
- 11:11Speaker 3: it's cut and dry. There is a formula. It's in
- 11:14Speaker 3: the contract, and they get their check.
- 11:16Speaker 2: There's also those players that get cut with an injury
- 11:17Speaker 2: settlement if that comes to that.
- 11:19Speaker 3: And that comes against your cap, too. Any dollar that
- 11:21Speaker 3: you pay to a player goes against your cap.
- 11:23Speaker 2: So let's do our final fan question. Johnny from Jax.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Will the Jaguars wear the rivalry uniforms in both games
- 11:29Speaker 2: against the Colts, home and away? Do both teams wear
- 11:32Speaker 2: them at the same time?
- 11:33Speaker 4: My understanding is the Jags are wearing them November 1st.
- 11:38Speaker 4: The Colts, I don't think, will be wearing anything except
- 11:40Speaker 4: their normal uniforms. And then you wear them once a
- 11:43Speaker 4: year in a designated time by the league. This is
- 11:47Speaker 4: not my wheelhouse. I'm not a big uniform guy. but
- 11:51Speaker 4: I think that's right.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Well, I understand. Someone told me they would wear them
- 11:54Speaker 3: at least twice, but once this year and then once
- 11:56Speaker 3: at some point. The league is unveiling these rivalry uniforms
- 12:01Speaker 3: two divisions at a time, so over four years, I
- 12:04Speaker 3: think you'll wear them at least twice. I have to say,
- 12:07Speaker 3: I've seen some of the merchandise that's been out. I
- 12:09Speaker 3: really like the script.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It's pretty cool.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I know people don't like them. They may have a
- 12:12Speaker 3: problem with the spots on the pants or the color
- 12:14Speaker 3: of teal, but I think the script is outstanding.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I'm a big fan of it.
- 12:19Speaker 4: It's cool. I mean, I just... I don't get obsessed
- 12:23Speaker 4: with uniforms. I liked the color rush 10 years ago.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Are you serious?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Hottest of takes.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Look at you.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Wow, that is a hot take. You're done.
- 12:32Speaker 4: But I don't care. I mean, look.
- 12:35Speaker 3: We started getting questions about 2028. Oh, he's been had them.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Yeah, about five years ago. Yeah, I mean, so it's fine.
- 12:46Speaker 4: They'll wear a uniform. They'll play football. I'll be fired up.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I don't think that means the end of the Prowler either.
- 12:51Speaker 2: The rivalry is its own thing to my understanding, so
- 12:55Speaker 2: nobody panic.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I haven't seen anything about the Prowlers, and normally they
- 12:57Speaker 3: market that. Are they not wearing Prowlers this year?
- 13:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 13:01Speaker 1: We'll have to check in with the big boss. But
- 13:02Speaker 1: that doesn't mean they're going away forever. That's all I
- 13:04Speaker 1: meant by that. But stay with us here. We're going
- 13:05Speaker 1: to have some hot takes for you after the break.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Welcome back into Jags AM and this weekend's matchup, week
- 13:15Speaker 2: one against the Browns brought to you by Publix, where
- 13:17Speaker 2: shopping is a pleasure. We're finally getting to watch some
- 13:20Speaker 2: real football, and that means we're going to give you
- 13:22Speaker 2: some hot takes for this season as well as we
- 13:24Speaker 2: look ahead.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Brian, I know you touched on it a little bit,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but what's your hot.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Take for us? I'm all in on Trevor Lawrence. He
- 13:30Speaker 3: was an MVP candidate last year, and John, you've seen
- 13:33Speaker 3: MVP candidates. We have not had that in Jacksonville very often.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I thought the way that he played last season, He
- 13:40Speaker 3: had clearly taken that step. You mentioned his floor higher.
- 13:42Speaker 3: He's there and climbing. I thought he had a great camp.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I know he wasn't perfect, but on those days where
- 13:47Speaker 3: he wasn't perfect, he was better in the next drill
- 13:50Speaker 3: or better the next day. He looked controlled, in command, poised.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Last year, the MVP was Matt Stafford, who had 46
- 14:01Speaker 3: total touchdowns. And the number two was the year before's
- 14:07Speaker 3: Josh Allen, who had 39. Trevor came in third with
- 14:10Speaker 3: 38 touchdowns, nine of those rushing. I think he takes
- 14:13Speaker 3: the leap this year. I think the offense, with as
- 14:17Speaker 3: many weapons as are established, and with an improved running game,
- 14:21Speaker 3: and one more year with Grant Udinski and Anthony Campanile,
- 14:25Speaker 3: I think this is the year that he vaults and
- 14:27Speaker 3: becomes the MVP of the league as the Jaguars make
- 14:29Speaker 3: a deep run.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 4: It wouldn't surprise me. I mean, it's hard to predict that.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Sure.
- 14:35Speaker 4: But you did predict it, and I don't disagree with
- 14:38Speaker 4: the concept at all. I'll go back to what I
- 14:41Speaker 4: said earlier in the show. To me, right now there's
- 14:45Speaker 4: no question in my mind that over the next 10
- 14:46Speaker 4: years he's going to be good every year and give
- 14:48Speaker 4: them a chance. He has become a guy that when
- 14:52Speaker 4: you're sitting around planning each year, you go, oh, we've
- 14:55Speaker 4: got a quarterback. And that's the first step, and he's
- 14:59Speaker 4: going to be good. He's going to give you a chance,
- 15:02Speaker 4: and you can be secure that if he's on the field,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you can build around that. So I'm there. I'm a
- 15:10Speaker 4: little ticked, though, overall. Uh-oh, ticked off. And my take
- 15:15Speaker 4: is that the Jaguars should make a deep playoff run.
- 15:17Speaker 4: I really couldn't think of any other way to put this,
- 15:19Speaker 4: but I'm not big on reading about what other people
- 15:23Speaker 4: say about the Jags.
- 15:24Speaker 1: It's never a good thing to do. Unless you want
- 15:26Speaker 1: to get ticked.
- 15:28Speaker 4: I happen to be putting together... the power rankings that
- 15:31Speaker 4: I do for the website, which is the most unimportant
- 15:33Speaker 4: thing I do each week, which is a big competition
- 15:36Speaker 4: because I do a lot of unimportant things. But that's
- 15:39Speaker 4: up there. And so in sort of looking around at
- 15:42Speaker 4: other people and saying about other teams, nobody thinks this
- 15:46Speaker 4: team's any good.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I know.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Which is negligent, lazy. I don't know how the season's
- 15:54Speaker 4: going to play out. But to not have this team
- 15:59Speaker 4: in a conversation of good teams in the NFL going
- 16:02Speaker 4: into this season is... I was a media guy. A
- 16:07Speaker 4: lot of my friends are media guys, so I know
- 16:09Speaker 4: they're lazy at heart. Because what I want to do
- 16:11Speaker 4: during the day is go home. Most media people are
- 16:13Speaker 4: like that. This is the perfect example of that. For
- 16:18Speaker 4: this team not to be considered one of the best
- 16:20Speaker 4: 6-7 teams going into this season... is absurd. I think
- 16:24Speaker 4: they make a deep playoff run. I don't know what
- 16:26Speaker 4: injuries happen, but, you know, at least read a little
- 16:30Speaker 4: bit before you rank this team. I saw one where
- 16:33Speaker 4: it was 17th in the NFL. Are you kidding me?
- 16:36Speaker 3: Listen, I just.
- 16:36Speaker 4: They won their last eight games last... I mean, it's absurd.
- 16:40Speaker 3: I was just on a reading, a capsule of every team, right,
- 16:45Speaker 3: by a national writer who I respect, and everybody has
- 16:48Speaker 3: a chance at the Super Bowl except a few teams, right?
- 16:50Speaker 3: The Dolphins and the Cardinals, they're pointing out those teams.
- 16:53Speaker 3: The Jaguars were just lauded for being competent, and I thought,
- 16:56Speaker 3: hold on a second. Did you watch this team last year?
- 16:59Speaker 3: Do you not see the level of talent? Talking about Buscelli, Cohen,
- 17:02Speaker 3: and Gladstone is great in their competence level, but that
- 17:05Speaker 3: was what they were conferring on this team, that this
- 17:08Speaker 3: team is merely all of a sudden competent. A podcast
- 17:11Speaker 3: that I love, that I listen to all the time.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I'll give you an example. They were talking about the Texans,
- 17:15Speaker 3: and I get it. The Texans' defense is generational. Then
- 17:18Speaker 3: they were talking about the Texans' offense, and there was
- 17:20Speaker 3: a guard, Keelan Rutledge. He's a rookie, by the way.
- 17:23Speaker 3: And they're saying he's the best offensive lineman they've got,
- 17:25Speaker 3: and he's the reason why that offensive line is going
- 17:28Speaker 3: to turn around in one year's time. A rookie guard.
- 17:33Speaker 3: And then they talked about the Jaguars and Emmanuel Pregnant,
- 17:35Speaker 3: and they said, well, here's the problem. They think he
- 17:38Speaker 3: might be their best, and he's just a rookie.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 17:41Speaker 3: So just the way that people look at this team—
- 17:44Speaker 3: Through one lens, Houston's got a rookie guard. He's their best.
- 17:46Speaker 3: They're set on offense. The offense will keep up with
- 17:48Speaker 3: the defense. They're going to the Super Bowl. Jaguars have
- 17:51Speaker 3: a rookie left guard, and they think he's the best.
- 17:54Speaker 3: That means their offensive line isn't any good. They're not
- 17:57Speaker 3: going to make the playoffs this year.
- 17:59Speaker 4: When you rank teams... It's so subjective. You sort of got.
- 18:05Speaker 4: You only have so much mental energy to put into
- 18:07Speaker 4: this thing and consider 32 teams.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Then there's a lot to cover.
- 18:11Speaker 4: I think what generally happens is people are just like, okay,
- 18:12Speaker 4: it's Jacksonville. They just don't feel like putting the effort
- 18:16Speaker 4: into looking at it and going, oh, this team's pretty,
- 18:19Speaker 4: this team beat Denver on the road. They beat San
- 18:22Speaker 4: Francisco on the road. They beat the Chargers. They beat
- 18:24Speaker 4: the Texans. They should beat the Texans twice. I mean,
- 18:27Speaker 4: anybody would tell you they outplayed them in both games.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So they're a good team who belongs in the conversation.
- 18:35Speaker 4: The nice thing about the NFL is it's not the
- 18:36Speaker 4: Southeastern Conference. It's decided on the field.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And, as Liam said, keep waiting for the respect because
- 18:42Speaker 3: it's never coming. It's never coming. And that makes it
- 18:46Speaker 3: fun to be a Jaguars fan, cover this team, because
- 18:50Speaker 3: this team has an edge, and it's interesting.
- 18:52Speaker 4: It'll be fun. It's just kind of silly. It is
- 18:54Speaker 4: a little bit silly.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Mine is similar in the sense of I think this
- 18:58Speaker 2: is going to be a better team than last year,
- 18:59Speaker 2: but I don't know if the record's going to be
- 19:01Speaker 2: as good because this is a tough schedule. So they
- 19:03Speaker 2: were 13-4 last year. That's very difficult to duplicate, especially
- 19:08Speaker 2: with now a first-place schedule that they have. And it's
- 19:11Speaker 2: important to note they're only going to play six games
- 19:13Speaker 2: here in Jacksonville, which is kind of crazy. And anytime, anywhere, anyplace,
- 19:17Speaker 2: they will play wherever they have to. But that's still
- 19:20Speaker 2: tough at the end of the day. So what I
- 19:21Speaker 2: think will actually kind of benefit them a little bit
- 19:24Speaker 2: is they're going to have this tough schedule. They're going
- 19:26Speaker 2: to get to the postseason, and they're not going to
- 19:28Speaker 2: be phased at all. And I think while maybe they'll
- 19:31Speaker 2: have not as good of a record as last season,
- 19:34Speaker 2: I still think they can win the division. But I
- 19:36Speaker 2: think that will propel them going forward because I think sometimes–
- 19:39Speaker 2: And not that they had an easy schedule by any means.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Last year, when you get a higher, you know, higher record,
- 19:43Speaker 2: you just think, oh, we kind of waltz into things.
- 19:44Speaker 2: And I think this is going to be a case
- 19:47Speaker 2: where they're going to get every single week everybody's back.
- 19:50Speaker 2: and that will benefit them come playoff time.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yeah somebody asked me uh why i think they have
- 19:55Speaker 4: a chance to be good and i i think the
- 19:58Speaker 4: reason that i have faith or why i have faith
- 20:00Speaker 4: they're going to be good this is i'm holding a helmet.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Here football guy john or football.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Guy they're Showed me last year they're very good at
- 20:12Speaker 4: not letting a slippery stretch turn into a season-ruining stretch.
- 20:18Speaker 3: The Houston game in Houston last year.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Well, and they lost two going into the bye. But
- 20:23Speaker 4: they didn't lose two in a row. They pulled out
- 20:25Speaker 4: of tough situations. I think that is solely because this
- 20:30Speaker 4: team believes in the direction and they believe in Liam Cohen.
- 20:34Speaker 4: And that's why I believe it's going to be tougher, but...
- 20:39Speaker 4: And the record may not be 13-4, but I believe
- 20:41Speaker 4: they'll land somewhere between 11-13 because of that belief. And
- 20:46Speaker 4: that's not something you can even see on a depth chart.
- 20:48Speaker 4: But don't you kind of feel that, that this team,
- 20:50Speaker 4: when things go bad, it doesn't go awful? That's the
- 20:54Speaker 4: key to contending in the NFL.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I'll tell you when you'll be able to read something
- 20:57Speaker 3: and you'll be like, okay, finally someone sees what's going
- 21:00Speaker 3: on here.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Week two.
- 21:01Speaker 3: When Sean Payton talks to the media on Wednesday, he
- 21:04Speaker 3: won't talk about that small market team, right? His team
- 21:08Speaker 3: got walloped by this team last year in Denver, and
- 21:12Speaker 3: they respect what this team has done. They will be very,
- 21:16Speaker 3: very aware if they weren't last year based on what
- 21:19Speaker 3: happened in December in Denver.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We're certainly all aware here, and we're excited to see
- 21:22Speaker 2: real football on Sunday. Stay with us here through one
- 21:24Speaker 2: more break. We'll tell you what's coming up the rest
- 21:26Speaker 2: of the week.
- 21:33Speaker 4: What's the message, right? When these guys get in the building,
- 21:36Speaker 4: what are they gonna feel from us? Anyone, anytime, anywhere.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I'm gonna be that guy, you know, that's bringing everyone up,
- 21:44Speaker 3: the energy.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Training camp is here, oh my God. This game's a
- 21:48Speaker 4: mental game, and it is physical, obviously, but the greats
- 21:53Speaker 4: is the ones that are mentally strong. You know them
- 21:55Speaker 4: dog days gonna happen. When those days happen, you gotta
- 21:59Speaker 4: be mentally sharp.
- 22:01Speaker 1: If you want Jaguars content, we got you.
- 22:03Speaker 2: That's the preview for the latest episode of The Hunt,
- 22:05Speaker 2: recapping all the preseason and training camp. All the shows
- 22:08Speaker 2: are back, too. So Jags AM is with you three
- 22:10Speaker 2: days a week. Happy Hour Monday and Thursday. John, the
- 22:13Speaker 2: pod's back.
- 22:14Speaker 1: We're firing on also.
- 22:16Speaker 4: There's nothing fair to say. We're ready.
- 22:19Speaker 1: We're laboring on Labor Day as well.
- 22:22Speaker 2: A little bit of a normal week in terms of
- 22:24Speaker 2: Liam Cohen will talk today, but the players are here,
- 22:26Speaker 2: they're practicing all of that. Um, what's the biggest thing
- 22:29Speaker 2: in terms of practice health, John, right now, trying to
- 22:31Speaker 2: see what we see on the Wednesday and then kind
- 22:33Speaker 2: of go from there.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Yeah. I think there, you know, as we talked about,
- 22:36Speaker 4: you've had a long time now to get all the
- 22:39Speaker 4: little stuff right in terms of health. Um, I think
- 22:43Speaker 4: it's watching Cole and it's watching, uh, LaQuinta Allen and, uh,
- 22:47Speaker 4: That's Wednesday's story.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Listen, training camp is expansive. You have long days. You
- 22:51Speaker 3: don't have that when you get into the regular season.
- 22:53Speaker 3: So there's an efficiency part that has to come in now.
- 22:56Speaker 3: The time is limited. You have to use it wisely.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Players are in a bit today, then they're in Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Kai,
- 23:03Speaker 3: you guys know the schedule. You've got to get the
- 23:04Speaker 3: most work done in the limited time you have on
- 23:07Speaker 3: the field and then maximize your time in the classroom,
- 23:09Speaker 3: in the weight room, sleep, eat, all of that stuff.
- 23:12Speaker 3: The intensity level completely changes because your time.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Is so restricted.
- 23:16Speaker 1: We're going to hear from the head coach in about
- 23:18Speaker 1: 15 minutes. So check that out. Jaguars.com, Jaguars YouTube.
- 23:21Speaker 2: And then we'll be back here on Jags AM on
- 23:22Speaker 2: Wednesday as we start looking ahead to week one against
- 23:24Speaker 2: the Browns.
