- 0:00Humanity has long had the feeling that it represents
- 0:03something special and unique in the universal creation.
- 0:08Major religions have creation stories that emphasize this
- 0:11uniqueness, with God creating man in his own image and finding
- 0:16that it was good. Many people believe that
- 0:19humanity is the only self aware sentient being in the entire
- 0:23universe. While they bolster this claim
- 0:27with the claim that our search for sentient life elsewhere has
- 0:30come up empty, it is clear that we can neither perceive all the
- 0:35beings that exist in our own world, nor that we have been
- 0:39able to explore the vast universe at distances that
- 0:43require time far beyond our short human lifetimes to reach.
- 0:49Stories from ancient texts tell of the unique opportunity of a
- 0:53human birth while acknowledging the existence of other sentient
- 0:57beings, some with knowledge and powers far exceeding those we
- 1:03possess. In our review of the world we
- 1:07can observe and the beings that inhabit Earth, we accentuate the
- 1:12predominant role that humanity plays to shore up our role as
- 1:17the leading species on the planet.
- 1:20We tend to believe that advanced mental capacities are what make
- 1:24us unique. Yet these same mental capacities
- 1:28have serious limitations and lead to unintended consequences
- 1:33that threaten the destruction of not only all of humanity, but
- 1:37possibly of the entire world. In the Cana Upanishad, the
- 1:44powers of matter, life and mind embodied in the beings known as
- 1:49Agni, Wyu and Indra are shown their limitations by a power
- 1:54that far exceeds them. Eventually, the mental power
- 1:59concludes there is a further consciousness that transcends
- 2:02them all. It is the direct link to this
- 2:06higher consciousness that actually represents the true
- 2:09uniqueness of the human being. In the Christian religion, Jesus
- 2:14was born into the human world. As the Son of God, he carries
- 2:18the divinity into human life. Looked at in more general terms,
- 2:24the psychic being represents the element in each human being that
- 2:29brings into the human being the spark, the direct connection to
- 2:33the divine. The ancient texts make it clear
- 2:37that other beings, including highly conscious and powerful
- 2:41beings, do not carry this specific divine connection.
- 2:47They are static beings that do not evolve or develop beyond the
- 2:50limits of their own role and capacities.
- 2:53The psychic being in man provides the mechanism for
- 2:57development, growth, and evolution.
- 3:02Beings that desire to participate in this process are
- 3:05compelled, therefore, to take a human birth.
- 3:10A disciple asks what is the work of the psychic being?
- 3:15The mother answers quote what is the work of the psychic being?
- 3:21You want it to have some work? What do you want to say exactly?
- 3:26What is its function? Ah, very well.
- 3:30One could put it this way that it is like an electric wire that
- 3:34connects the generator with the lamp.
- 3:37Now if someone has understood, let him explain what I said.
- 3:42Disciple, what is the generator and what the lamp?
- 3:47Laughter. The mother quote.
- 3:51Ah, there we are. So what is the generator and
- 3:54what the lamp? That is exactly it.
- 3:57What is the generator and what the lamp?
- 4:00Or rather, who is the generator and who is the lamp?
- 4:06Disciple, The generator is the define and the lamp is the body,
- 4:13the Mother, it is the body, it is the visible being, so that is
- 4:18its function. This means that if there were no
- 4:21psychic in matter, it would not be able to have any direct
- 4:25contact with the divine. And it is happily due to this
- 4:29psychic presence in matter that the contact between matter and
- 4:33the divine can be direct and all human beings can be told.
- 4:38You carry the divine within you, and you have only to enter
- 4:42within yourself, and you will find him.
- 4:45It is something very particular to the human being, or rather to
- 4:50the inhabitants of the earth. In the human being the psychic
- 4:54becomes more conscious, more formed, more conscious and more
- 4:58dependent. Also it is individualized in
- 5:02human beings, but it is a specialty of the earth.
- 5:07It is a direct infusion, special and redeeming in the most
- 5:12inconscient and obscure matter, so that it might once again
- 5:16awake through stages to the divine consciousness, the Divine
- 5:20Presence, and finally to the Divine himself.
- 5:25It is the presence of the psychic which makes man an
- 5:28exceptional being. I don't like to tell him this
- 5:31very much, because already he thinks too much of himself.
- 5:34He has such a high opinion of himself that it is not necessary
- 5:39to encourage him, but still this is a fact.
- 5:43So much so that there are beings of other domains of the
- 5:46universe, those called by some people demigods and even gods.
- 5:51Beings, for instance, of what Trior Obindo calls the Overmind,
- 5:56who are very eager to take a physical body on earth to have
- 6:00the experience of the psychic, for they don't have it.
- 6:05These beings certainly have many qualities that men don't, but
- 6:09they lack this divine presence which is altogether exceptional
- 6:14and exists only on the earth and nowhere else.
- 6:17All these inhabitants of the higher worlds, the higher mind
- 6:22over mind and other regions have no psychic being.
- 6:28Of course, the beings of the vital worlds don't have it
- 6:31either. But these latter don't regret
- 6:33it. They don't want it.
- 6:36There are only those very rare ones, quite exceptional, who
- 6:40want to be converted, and for this they act without delay.
- 6:45They immediately take a physical body.
- 6:48The others don't want it. It is something which binds them
- 6:51and constrains them to a rule they do not want.
- 6:55But it is a fact, so I am obliged to state that this is
- 6:59how it is. That is an exceptional quality
- 7:02of human being to carry within himself the psychic, and truly
- 7:07speaking, he does not take full advantage from it.
- 7:11He does not seem to consider this quality of something very,
- 7:14very desirable from the way he treats this presence, exactly
- 7:19that he prefers to it the ideas of his mind, prefers the desires
- 7:26of his vital being and the habits of his physical.
