- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, guys. Here we are last break of the
- 0:02Speaker 1: day on this Thursday. And Steve, before we get out
- 0:05Speaker 1: of here, we had another phone call for you. It's
- 0:08Speaker 1: from Lynnee out of North Carolina. She left a message
- 0:11Speaker 1: about raising daughters.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hello, Steve, my name is Linee and I'm in North Carolina.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I want to say that I thank you for being
- 0:20Speaker 2: the father that you are for your girl. When I
- 0:23Speaker 2: listen to you say tell, the advice that you give
- 0:26Speaker 2: your girls and motivates me, especially as a single mother
- 0:31Speaker 2: trying to take care of my daughter by myself. It
- 0:36Speaker 2: gets really hard, especially with her dad being only ten
- 0:40Speaker 2: minutes away and don't do anything. But I just want
- 0:43Speaker 2: to thank you for the advice that you give your girls,
- 0:46Speaker 2: because when you speak on the advice, it's actually helping
- 0:50Speaker 2: myself and I'm sure other females as well. Thank you
- 0:54Speaker 2: and you have a good day. God bless you well.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I would like to say first law to single mothers
- 1:01Speaker 3: who have daughters. I don't think anybody can do a
- 1:05Speaker 3: better job of raising those girls that a woman can,
- 1:10Speaker 3: because women know all the intricacies of being female. So
- 1:17Speaker 3: being a father of daughters is very helpful in that
- 1:21Speaker 3: I can teach my daughters the male viewpoint so that
- 1:25Speaker 3: they are aware of how men think. But I in
- 1:29Speaker 3: no way am better at it than their mother, because
- 1:33Speaker 3: their mother can advise them on every level of being
- 1:37Speaker 3: a woman and a girl, and I can't. So I
- 1:41Speaker 3: appreciate what you're saying, but I have their ability to
- 1:46Speaker 3: teach my daughters the male viewpoint, which I try to get. Now,
- 1:50Speaker 3: listen to me. They have to do it on their own,
- 1:53Speaker 3: and they have to learn from their mistakes. Your children
- 1:56Speaker 3: are not going to be mistake free. You can tell
- 1:59Speaker 3: them all, you won't. At one point in time, they
- 2:02Speaker 3: gonna do something so counter to everything you've ever taught them,
- 2:07Speaker 3: because that's what they're going to do. That's what I did.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I made mistake after mistake after mistake, even after my
- 2:14Speaker 3: father told me, because that's the only way you learn.
- 2:18Speaker 3: You learn through trial and error, and you're gonna make mistakes.
- 2:22Speaker 3: So single mother's out there, please don't beat yourself up
- 2:26Speaker 3: because you're doing a wonderful job. You are doing a
- 2:28Speaker 3: wonderful job, and there are single mothers out there such
- 2:31Speaker 3: a thankless job of being a single parent because you
- 2:35Speaker 3: don't get the real benefit until they're grown. You know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: every now and then in your child will say thank
- 2:40Speaker 3: you for something. But the sad thing about being a
- 2:43Speaker 3: parent is they really not gonna get the true real
- 2:47Speaker 3: value of who you are and what you did until
- 2:49Speaker 3: they're full grown. Like it's rewarding for me now to
- 2:53Speaker 3: hear my son say stuff that I talk to them about.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You know, I'll be listening to them talk to each other,
- 3:00Speaker 3: and I like, one time I was listening to my
- 3:02Speaker 3: boys talk to each other and they say, hey, man,
- 3:03Speaker 3: hold on, remember what Dad told us now, And I'll
- 3:08Speaker 3: be sitting there going wowd it clicked. My son went
- 3:12Speaker 3: and texted me the other day he said, Dad, I
- 3:13Speaker 3: just won't say thanks man. Thanks son. My oldest son
- 3:17Speaker 3: told me just yesterday we were on the job because
- 3:20Speaker 3: he works for me. We were on the job and
- 3:22Speaker 3: this other guy constantly does stuff that's just uh, you
- 3:28Speaker 3: could see he was raised different. Let's just say that.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And it was another incident that happened and he had
- 3:35Speaker 3: a reaction to it that I would not have had.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And me and my son was getting on the elevator
- 3:41Speaker 3: to go down and he say, hey, Dad, I just
- 3:43Speaker 3: won't say thanks man. I said, what's up, son? He said, no, man,
- 3:47Speaker 3: just thanks for raising me the way you raised me,
- 3:51Speaker 3: because I see what happens when you don't have that
- 3:53Speaker 3: in your life, and so it's rewarding of that. But
- 3:57Speaker 3: for you single parents out there, understand this. You're not
- 4:01Speaker 3: gonna get full credit until they get good and grown,
- 4:03Speaker 3: until sometimes till they get their own Sometimes you gotta
- 4:08Speaker 3: have children to really get what your parents were saying
- 4:11Speaker 3: to you. But you're gonna get it though, So hanging
- 4:14Speaker 3: down single parents, you're doing a wonderful job. I know
- 4:16Speaker 3: it's thankless sometimes, but you're doing a wonderful job. It's like,
- 4:20Speaker 3: I have to talk to the mothers who bring their
- 4:22Speaker 3: boys to my camp because my campus for young boys
- 4:25Speaker 3: from homes headed up by women, and it's so hard
- 4:29Speaker 3: because these boys miss their father and we have a
- 4:33Speaker 3: moment at the ranch where we write down on a
- 4:35Speaker 3: piece of paper how you feel about your father. And
- 4:38Speaker 3: it's so much negative stuff that these kids is feeling
- 4:41Speaker 3: because this man has been absent. Thedn't come see them
- 4:44Speaker 3: at the game, don't send them nothing for Christmas, don't
- 4:47Speaker 3: wish them happy birthday. Man, these boys, it's just like, wow,
- 4:51Speaker 3: you know parents day at school, he don't show up.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You know all of this stuff, man, And I just
- 4:57Speaker 3: feel so bad for these boys and mothers cry like this.
- 5:02Speaker 3: One lady told me, she says, Steve, I just cry
- 5:05Speaker 3: all the time because I picked his father and he
- 5:10Speaker 3: turned out not to be nothing. I tell these women,
- 5:12Speaker 3: that's not your fault. That's not your fault. Everybody make mistakes,
- 5:17Speaker 3: but you can't make a man be a man. You
- 5:20Speaker 3: that's you know, we all get duped at one point
- 5:24Speaker 3: in time or another. So as as it's so many
- 5:29Speaker 3: what am I trying to say, so many variables, it's
- 5:33Speaker 3: so many variables in this thing called parenting. Understand that
- 5:39Speaker 3: stay focused, stay true to the course, because you have
- 5:42Speaker 3: no idea who you gave birth to. I'm pretty sure
- 5:45Speaker 3: Barack Obama's mama has some regrets about meeting her husband.
- 5:50Speaker 3: But little did they know that one day, this child,
- 5:54Speaker 3: through this union, had given birth to the first African
- 5:57Speaker 3: American to become President of the United States. And you
- 6:00Speaker 3: don't know who you're giving birth to. And I'm not
- 6:03Speaker 3: saying I'm all that, but my mom and daddy had
- 6:05Speaker 3: me late in life. My mama had me when she
- 6:07Speaker 3: was forty two years old, and my father used to
- 6:10Speaker 3: tell me all the time. I don't know why you
- 6:11Speaker 3: standing here talking to me. You ain't even supposed to
- 6:14Speaker 3: be here. And that was our little running gag all
- 6:17Speaker 3: the way till he died. But you know what, they
- 6:20Speaker 3: was ended up being proud because they didn't know that
- 6:23Speaker 3: the youngest of five was gonna turn out to be
- 6:25Speaker 3: who I was. And I'm not saying that in bragging way,
- 6:27Speaker 3: but you just don't know who you've given birth to.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So keep your head up. You gonna be just fine. Y'all.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Have a great one today. Talk to God today. He
- 6:36Speaker 3: would absolutely love to hear from you.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, ill at you.
