- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So there's a theory about in the coaching world, in the
- 0:35psychological world where we talk often about are you moving
- 0:40towards what you want or are you moving away?
- 0:43Now, this is like Marco Polo to me.
- 0:45Remember Me playing Marco Polo when you're a kid in the
- 0:47swimming pool and someone's, you know, Marco and someone's else's
- 0:51polo and they're trying to find you and you're they're swimming
- 0:55towards you, but they're supposed to have their eyes
- 0:56closed. But who really ever keeps their
- 0:58eyes price tightly closed? It was always, you know, the fun
- 1:01game. And if you're not fast,
- 1:03athletically present company included in that, then you're
- 1:07you're not going to ever win at Marco Polo.
- 1:10But it's not about just Marco Polo today.
- 1:12It's talking about how Marco Polo is really the move towards
- 1:16or move away. You're getting warmer, you're
- 1:18getting cold or hot and cold. That old fashioned game that
- 1:20we've all played, hide and seek with all of it and flashlight
- 1:24tag, you know, all the good ones that can lead back to this.
- 1:27But in life, it was a great training because from my
- 1:31perspective as a coach, I'm constantly talking to myself and
- 1:36to others about the moving towards and moving away.
- 1:39Moving towards and moving away. What does that look like?
- 1:42Are you moving towards your goals or are you moving away
- 1:44from your goals? Are you doing the things that
- 1:48get you closer or you you constructing things that keep
- 1:51you away from it? And yes, we actually do
- 1:53construct our own barriers to them.
- 1:58If you want to say we create these situations because we are
- 2:01not good at keeping clear on that path because we don't check
- 2:06in enough, I'm convinced it's because we don't check in
- 2:09enough. The more we check in, the better
- 2:11off we are because once we start doing the check insurance, then
- 2:14we can say, oh wait, I made a, you know, in the world of Bugs
- 2:17Bunny left turn at Albuquerque and I've got to go back.
- 2:20But that only happens when you do check insurance.
- 2:22And if you don't do check insurance, you're basically
- 2:24screwed in the process because you have to keep checking in.
- 2:28And the towards in a way model for me is something that you can
- 2:32do every day, multiple times a day.
- 2:35Am I towards my task? Am I away from my task?
- 2:37Am I closer? Am I not?
- 2:39And whatever words you like, I just like towards and away
- 2:42because it's very clear I'm either moving towards them or
- 2:45I'm moving away from them. So sometimes what gets in our
- 2:49way is our emotions show up and we just want to stay frustrated
- 2:53because we have been violated. And this is all true, but I mean
- 2:56100% in the process of doing this, you will find things that
- 3:00you don't like that don't work for you.
- 3:02You will be irritated, aggravated, pissed off even.
- 3:07And you have to make sure that you pull yourself to the side
- 3:10and say, OK, is this situation happening real?
- 3:16Yes, it is. OK, great.
- 3:17Is my reaction moving me closer to my goals or further from my
- 3:21goals? And if your reaction is taking
- 3:23you further from your goals, then the, the, the reality is
- 3:28it's time for a course correction because without it,
- 3:32you're just going to continue on a trajectory that does not make
- 3:36you happy or get you where you want to be.
- 3:39So the key, the absolute key to this is making turns quicker,
- 3:46making stops quicker and checking in.
- 3:49Think of it just like you're, you know, you're driving with
- 3:51the GPS. You see it on the screen.
- 3:53This happened to us yesterday. We're driving and we're trying
- 3:56to get to a restaurant supply company and the GPS is giving us
- 3:59these wonky directions. And you can't tell sometimes
- 4:02when you look at it on the screen where it's like got the
- 4:05little line and I'm like, no, it says that's the exit and we got
- 4:09off. My husband gets off as and he's
- 4:11like, well, look like that one. And I'm like, I know it's, it's
- 4:13too weird. We're in an area where all the
- 4:15roads overlap and they're all running parallel and you can't
- 4:18tell. And we get off and the first
- 4:22thing that we do is we stop and we say, OK, what is this
- 4:26actually saying? Which way should we go?
- 4:28Quick check in. OK.
- 4:29And when you we made the next turn, it was the wrong turn.
- 4:33OK, great, let's back it up. It's telling us to go a
- 4:36different way. So it all happened very quickly
- 4:39in a short period of time and we didn't even end up losing any
- 4:42time going where we were going because we stopped and we course
- 4:45corrected quickly. Now we're all very, very engaged
- 4:50and grilled to do that as people who are driving, but we're
- 4:55driving our lives and that's when we let it go so long and
- 4:58that's when we have the problems.
- 5:00So using that same metaphor for life is really important because
- 5:05once you start doing that, Oh my goodness, things don't get out
- 5:09of hand so far. You can fix them.
- 5:11You can handle anything when you know.
- 5:14So do yourself the favor, make sure you check in on that
- 5:17quicker. And you won't have to wait until
- 5:19things go so far off the track because you are clear.
- 5:23You are making your corrections, moving towards, in a way, much
- 5:26sooner than you may have previously.
- 5:29All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:31see you tomorrow. Bye.
