Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Twins get best possible Joe Ryan news, then win in Washington
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Actually, Joe Ryan is not hurt or at least not
- 0:04Speaker 1: as badly as the Twins feared. We'll talk about that
- 0:07Speaker 1: today on Twins Cities Territory, our Minnesota Twins podcast here
- 0:11Speaker 1: on the Foul Territory Network. We'll also get to the
- 0:14Speaker 1: Twins win Tuesday night in Washington. Felt like the old days, guys.
- 0:18Speaker 1: A bunch of runs, some solid starting pitching, the bullpen
- 0:22Speaker 1: held up as well. We'll talk about Byron Buxton, Trevor Larnick,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and a whole bunch more. I'm Zach Pierce from the Athletic,
- 0:27Speaker 1: joined by Dan Hayes of The Athletic Minnesota, our Minnesota
- 0:31Speaker 1: Twins beat writer, and Tyler Duffy, who is a long
- 0:34Speaker 1: time Major leaguer and former Minnesota Twin guys. Joe Ryan
- 0:38Speaker 1: left his last start after just two batters with an
- 0:41Speaker 1: elbow issue. Dan, the Twins feared anything up to and
- 0:46Speaker 1: including that he might be lost for the season, But
- 0:48Speaker 1: now he is back and may be able to make
- 0:51Speaker 1: his next start.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you were like looking for the panic button.
- 0:57Speaker 2: The minute Joe Ryan walks out, everything world is falling.
- 1:01Speaker 2: You know, this guy's falling. There's chaos everywhere and all
- 1:04Speaker 2: of a sudden, it's all good, and it's like after
- 1:08Speaker 2: two days and it's funny, Joe Ryan made the flight
- 1:13Speaker 2: on Monday and that was peculiar and and Duff can
- 1:17Speaker 2: get into this a little bit later, but when guys
- 1:20Speaker 2: make the travel party, usually the team clearly is not
- 1:25Speaker 2: as worried, like unless they're.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Gonna work out.
- 1:27Speaker 2: And when you have an when you walk off after
- 1:29Speaker 2: an elbow injury and you're going for an MRI and
- 1:31Speaker 2: then you're on the charter a day later, that's a
- 1:33Speaker 2: that's a pretty good sign.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So you got that sense.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And there was even a team photo. The Twins wore
- 1:38Speaker 2: wild gear on the flight, and you can see Joe
- 1:43Speaker 2: Ryan's head sticking around the corner of Louis Ramirez, the
- 1:47Speaker 2: pitching coach, and smiling and it's like, okay, wait, that
- 1:50Speaker 2: doesn't look like a guy who's devastated that his season
- 1:53Speaker 2: is over and his career is on hold. For Tommy
- 1:56Speaker 2: John so lo and behold, we got to the park
- 1:59Speaker 2: on Tuesday and Joe Ryan was playing catch and he's
- 2:02Speaker 2: going to throw a bullpen today as long as that
- 2:04Speaker 2: catch went well. And the Twins feel like that, you know,
- 2:08Speaker 2: Derek Shelton said, it's relief, and Joe Ryan said he
- 2:11Speaker 2: dodged a bullet. There's no real explanation for They just
- 2:15Speaker 2: think that, you know, he felt it on a couple
- 2:17Speaker 2: of pitches, and as Shelton said, they think that Joe
- 2:22Speaker 2: Ryan is so aware of how his body feels and
- 2:25Speaker 2: works that it's like an early warning detection system for
- 2:29Speaker 2: like cars with like the crashes like that. Joe Ryan
- 2:33Speaker 2: was like, oh, this is weird and got it before
- 2:36Speaker 2: it went, which I don't know how often I've heard,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know that kind of that that just that you're
- 2:42Speaker 2: really acutely in tune with your body to do that,
- 2:45Speaker 2: because it just sometimes it just goes from listening to
- 2:49Speaker 2: tons of pictures talk about it.
- 2:50Speaker 3: But it's a it's a good spot for the Twins
- 2:53Speaker 3: to be in here.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Just a day later, if he does make his next start,
- 2:58Speaker 1: it would be Saturday at clear Evelynd, A big game
- 3:01Speaker 1: for the Twins in this muddied Al Central Division. What
- 3:07Speaker 1: are the odds at this point, Dan that he actually
- 3:09Speaker 1: is there. The Twins is going to still try to
- 3:10Speaker 1: play it a little bit cautious with this.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's going to happen. I
- 3:15Speaker 2: mean it's all go at this point, and he pitches
- 3:18Speaker 2: great against Cleveland. They hate facing him. I mean, he
- 3:21Speaker 2: pitches great against most teams.
- 3:23Speaker 3: But he really does well against Cleveland, especially in that ballpark.
- 3:28Speaker 2: One of his best starts early in his career came
- 3:30Speaker 2: there in twenty twenty two. I suspect we'll see him
- 3:34Speaker 2: as long as everything goes well on Wednesday, and it
- 3:36Speaker 2: just seems like he was at ease talking to us.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You know, it didn't seem forced.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You know, he had the back thing in spring training
- 3:44Speaker 2: and that took a couple of weeks that like, his
- 3:47Speaker 2: first start was supposed to be February twenty one, and
- 3:49Speaker 2: he had the back lower back tightness. They didn't pitch
- 3:52Speaker 2: him again until March tenth, and that was the first
- 3:57Speaker 2: time he pitched in spring training and everything has been
- 3:59Speaker 2: good since then.
- 4:00Speaker 3: So I don't, you know, like it's the.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Difference between that situation and this one isn't that much.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But it was spring training, and teams like to be
- 4:10Speaker 2: cautious with guys when things happen in spring training, especially
- 4:12Speaker 2: your first time out. But even in that instance, Joe
- 4:16Speaker 2: Ryan was back on the mound the next day to
- 4:18Speaker 2: imply os, which is not something that you see a
- 4:20Speaker 2: guy doing, you know, if they're really worried. And there's
- 4:23Speaker 2: a lot of similarity between that situation and this one
- 4:26Speaker 2: where he's back and he's feeling good, and so I
- 4:30Speaker 2: really do think we'll see him on Saturday.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Tyler elbow issues obviously nothing to take lightly. Is this
- 4:39Speaker 1: something you've experienced, like like feeling that twinge and getting
- 4:42Speaker 1: taken out and then and then actually you're just fine.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you see it often, especially now, I think
- 4:49Speaker 4: it's become more of a thing, just because guys are
- 4:52Speaker 4: so aware and conscious of recovery and you know, get
- 4:56Speaker 4: him massage and all these things. Were in the past,
- 4:59Speaker 4: it was kind of you know, rub some dirt on
- 5:02Speaker 4: it and go play. And I think guys now were
- 5:05Speaker 4: overly cautious, for lack of a better term. You know,
- 5:08Speaker 4: it's you feel a little something you can prevent something
- 5:13Speaker 4: catastrophic from happening. And so I think that's the world
- 5:16Speaker 4: we live in.
- 5:16Speaker 5: You know.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You see Pablo goes down at Spring, you know, and
- 5:19Speaker 4: that's that's the worst case. And Joe, you know, maybe
- 5:22Speaker 4: he's slept on his arm wrong. Like it's as simple
- 5:24Speaker 4: as that. We were talking about having kids, like maybe
- 5:26Speaker 4: he's holding his baby a little bit, you know, something
- 5:28Speaker 4: that's maybe you tightened it up, didn't feel it until
- 5:31Speaker 4: you got into that game and started ramping on a fastball,
- 5:35Speaker 4: and next thing you know, you got a little twinge
- 5:37Speaker 4: and you're like, you know.
- 5:38Speaker 5: What was that?
- 5:38Speaker 4: And so there's a few throws here and there. I've
- 5:41Speaker 4: unfortunately on the other end of the spectrum. I'm like,
- 5:44Speaker 4: I feel a little twinge. I'm gonna let the next
- 5:47Speaker 4: one fly, because it's either gonna go or it's not,
- 5:49Speaker 4: you know. And for Joe's case, you know, he's looking
- 5:53Speaker 4: forward to making a lot of money and free agency,
- 5:55Speaker 4: you know, and arbitration all that stuff, and he's got
- 5:57Speaker 4: a career ahead of him, and so he's got to
- 5:59Speaker 4: play this the right way. And I think the Twins
- 6:01Speaker 4: would rather have a miss one start now than the
- 6:05Speaker 4: twenty five after it, you know, out of caution. And
- 6:09Speaker 4: so I don't think anybody's going to shake their head
- 6:11Speaker 4: about that one. And especially if he comes out against Cleveland,
- 6:13Speaker 4: you'd rather pitch that game anyways.
- 6:15Speaker 5: So you know, I think it's one as him being careful,
- 6:19Speaker 5: you know, being.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Responsible as a leading leader of this rotation and you know,
- 6:24Speaker 4: I think it'll be just a little speed bump that
- 6:26Speaker 4: we won't even worry about in the next few weeks.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The starting pitching has been the highlight of the of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the season so far for the Twins. They I look
- 6:37Speaker 1: this up today, They've had twenty one games this year
- 6:39Speaker 1: where their starting pitcher has gone at least five innings
- 6:42Speaker 1: and allowed two or fewer runs. That is tied for
- 6:46Speaker 1: third in Major League Baseball, behind the Dodgers and Mariners,
- 6:49Speaker 1: who have twenty two such games. Joe Ryan is responsible
- 6:53Speaker 1: for several I'm trying to see here, one, two, three, four, five,
- 7:00Speaker 1: five of the twenty one dan we started. We talked
- 7:03Speaker 1: about this a little bit on Monday show with the
- 7:06Speaker 1: news of his injury, but we started this year talking
- 7:09Speaker 1: about him as a prime trade deadline shopping item for
- 7:16Speaker 1: the Twins. They have struggled. They have not especially since
- 7:20Speaker 1: that that solid winning streak they had earlier in April,
- 7:24Speaker 1: but there came in a half out of first despite
- 7:27Speaker 1: being in last place. Starting pitching is clearly is clearly
- 7:31Speaker 1: good enough to be to have to have this team
- 7:34Speaker 1: in contention. Bats and bullpen remain an issue, but certainly
- 7:40Speaker 1: a healthy report on Joe Ryan gives the twins options again.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it makes July interesting for the other reason. I mean, look,
- 7:48Speaker 2: this makes July interesting no matter what. Joe Ryan's either
- 7:50Speaker 2: getting traded or he's not, and they're hanging on to him,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and maybe they're thinking about adding because especially with the
- 7:58Speaker 2: news at Detroit, their day with Reiq's out, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: months after getting loose bodies removed from his elbow.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Loose bodies, loose bodies.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It is that has gotta be Everybody's like, oh man,
- 8:13Speaker 2: that's like the worst. And it's funny because loose bodies
- 8:16Speaker 2: being removed from your elbow, it's probably one of the
- 8:17Speaker 2: better things to do, like the better surgeries to happen
- 8:23Speaker 2: to your elbow versus Tommy John And like, loose bodies
- 8:26Speaker 2: sounds so horrific.
- 8:27Speaker 3: It's like what's in there? And really it's just cleaning
- 8:30Speaker 3: up the elbow. But with with that.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Development, I mean to Bree exactly, uh, with with that development,
- 8:38Speaker 2: I mean you look at this and is Detroit gonna
- 8:42Speaker 2: be able to run away?
- 8:43Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I mean they're still they won the division, They've been
- 8:46Speaker 2: the playoffs two years in a row. They're a good team.
- 8:48Speaker 2: A J. Hinch is a brilliant manager. Like there, there's
- 8:52Speaker 2: still the team to beat. But I mean, this looks
- 8:55Speaker 2: a lot more open, and you know, it's it's too
- 8:58Speaker 2: bad the Twins don't have a little more certainty in
- 9:02Speaker 2: the bullpen right now, because they're not that far from
- 9:05Speaker 2: being a team that could stick in this thing. Man,
- 9:08Speaker 2: they still possibly could stick in this thing. Like you said,
- 9:10Speaker 2: they've been terrible. They're sixteen and twenty right now. They're
- 9:13Speaker 2: one and a half out in the division.
- 9:15Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 9:17Speaker 1: There are two The first place teams are Tigers in
- 9:20Speaker 1: Cleveland are tied both eighteen and nineteen, White Socks and
- 9:24Speaker 1: Royals behind them at seventeen and nineteen, and then the Twins.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Just Al Central everybody center.
- 9:29Speaker 1: But it's also it's not just the Ale Central. Like
- 9:34Speaker 1: the third place team in the American League is the
- 9:36Speaker 1: eighteen and seventeen Athletics of whatever town you want to
- 9:40Speaker 1: call them from. Right, So the Twins, despite being an
- 9:43Speaker 1: eleventh place in the American League, are closer to third
- 9:46Speaker 1: place than they are to last. So well, that's not
- 9:50Speaker 1: exactly the same distance between third and last. So there's
- 9:54Speaker 1: a gap to the Yankees, for sure. The Rays have
- 9:57Speaker 1: had a great start, although the underlying not as strong
- 10:00Speaker 1: as New York, but but like it's is this enough
- 10:06Speaker 1: for the team to maybe think about buying at the
- 10:09Speaker 1: trade deadline to be to be close enough to be
- 10:11Speaker 1: close in the central even though overall it's still projecting
- 10:14Speaker 1: to be an average or below average team.
- 10:20Speaker 2: If Tom pauladd is saying what he's saying about being
- 10:23Speaker 2: aggressive and adding and giving the fans what they want,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think if they were within distance like this in July,
- 10:30Speaker 2: they would. They have a farm system that has enough talent.
- 10:33Speaker 2: They're about to add the third overall pick in the
- 10:37Speaker 2: draft in July. You got a lot of guys, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 2: you have this level that's at the triple A level.
- 10:43Speaker 2: You have Walker Jenkins and although he's out for a
- 10:45Speaker 2: while with the ac joint injury, Kevin Culpepper, Emmanuel Rodriguez.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You have talent there, and then you have a lower
- 10:54Speaker 2: run group at high A. There's some interesting guys there.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So you have talent to make, you know, good on
- 11:01Speaker 2: that promise. It's just does the front office think it's
- 11:04Speaker 2: close enough to do that and they've been aggressive, they
- 11:07Speaker 2: want to be aggressive.
- 11:08Speaker 3: That would be a chance to prove it.
- 11:10Speaker 2: So my Gut says, if they were one and a
- 11:12Speaker 2: half out in July, If they're one and a half
- 11:15Speaker 2: out of the wild card race in July, my gut says, yeah,
- 11:19Speaker 2: they'll try, you know, smart editions. I don't know that
- 11:22Speaker 2: they would do Mason Miller to the Padres editions, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 2: even though that would change your bullpen fundamentally. But I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 2: like I think that they could if this was the picture.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The thing is is we're on May sixth here. Do
- 11:36Speaker 2: I do I think with this bullpen in place as
- 11:38Speaker 2: it is, that they will get to July twenty eighth
- 11:42Speaker 2: in this position July thirty one, the deadline's August third
- 11:44Speaker 2: this year? Do I think that we'll be talking about
- 11:46Speaker 2: them in this same position in three months?
- 11:49Speaker 3: Is that right? Three months? Yeah?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Basic, I don't know's that's really going to be. You're
- 11:56Speaker 2: gonna need this offense to be as good as it
- 11:58Speaker 2: was on Tuesday that to happen.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Twins are also right now one of only five teams
- 12:05Speaker 1: in the American League with a positive run differential.
- 12:09Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's a weird season. It's been a weird start obviously, Yes, Dandy, right,
- 12:14Speaker 1: we'll revisit this once or twice, I think before July.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But what we're going to talk about Tuesday's win over
- 12:22Speaker 1: Washington some Byron Buxton, some Trevor Larnick.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Right after this, let's talk love life ft family. I
- 12:30Speaker 6: know it's an important part of everyone's life, but if
- 12:33Speaker 6: you need help or if you don't, gluech You Gold

- 13:22Speaker 7: safety information and we thank Blue ch you for sponsoring
- 13:25Speaker 7: the podcast.
- 13:30Speaker 1: All right, we are back, Dan, I had you muted there.
- 13:34Speaker 1: What did you have to say?
- 13:36Speaker 3: I said that needed some music.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That did that?
- 13:39Speaker 3: Did a little saxophone or something like that. Guitarrail.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Aj did a nice job though. The Twins won
- 13:48Speaker 1: on Tuesday, Breaking News in Washington, the second straight win,
- 13:53Speaker 1: first time they've won back to back game since April
- 13:56Speaker 1: thirteenth and fourteenth against Boston. They were three and three
- 14:02Speaker 1: and thirteen in between. TODJ Bradley another great start. Seems
- 14:07Speaker 1: like it's happening every time with him and Joe Ryan
- 14:10Speaker 1: these days. And the bats came alive in and all
- 14:14Speaker 1: in all, it, like I said earlier, kind of looked
- 14:16Speaker 1: more like one of those early season games during that
- 14:19Speaker 1: winning streak.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Brooksley big early double.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I think it was a two out double in the
- 14:25Speaker 2: second in Taj Bradley did a really good job. That
- 14:28Speaker 2: first inning was weird. He got a ground ball right
- 14:33Speaker 2: at Luke Keishall with the infield in, and Luke Keishall's
- 14:37Speaker 2: throw was to the wrong side of Ryan Jeffers and
- 14:39Speaker 2: the runs scores and.
- 14:41Speaker 3: It's one nothing.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Bradley then settled in, got the i think a pop
- 14:45Speaker 2: up in a strikeout, whatever the order was, got out
- 14:47Speaker 2: of it without further damage, and the offense rewarded him
- 14:50Speaker 2: and it was great.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Brooksley had the big double early.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Trevor Larnick had a put away double or not necessarily
- 14:57Speaker 2: put away double, but gave him some real break room
- 15:00Speaker 2: in the fourth and made it six to one.
- 15:01Speaker 3: He's had a really nice season. Brooks Lee has a
- 15:04Speaker 3: really nice season.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I think brooks Lee is now in the top twenty
- 15:08Speaker 2: ish in the AL and run in RBIs and really
- 15:11Speaker 2: has come on since he fouled that bunt off his
- 15:14Speaker 2: face and came through with the game winner, knocked some
- 15:17Speaker 2: sense into himself in the Byron Buckston homers later in
- 15:21Speaker 2: the game, and it was you know, the offense needed
- 15:23Speaker 2: a night like this.
- 15:26Speaker 3: And TODJ.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Bradley just has been so much fun to watch. His
- 15:29Speaker 2: splitter last night was disgusting. Seven strikeouts, He got five
- 15:33Speaker 2: or seven swings and misses. He got five strikeouts with
- 15:36Speaker 2: the curveball, pairing those pitches together with his nasty fastball.
- 15:40Speaker 2: He just he looks so good and hard to beat,
- 15:44Speaker 2: and man, he's fun to talk to him. Postgame, you
- 15:47Speaker 2: can tell he's just feeling it right now.
- 15:49Speaker 3: So he's got that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Kind of ace vibe with them where when he takes
- 15:54Speaker 2: the mound right now, they know they're going to be
- 15:56Speaker 2: in this game and they want to win for him,
- 15:58Speaker 2: and he's.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Doing it, and I like, duff, what you know when
- 16:02Speaker 3: a guy, you.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Know, when a guy has that that feeling, like, what's
- 16:06Speaker 2: it like when you walk in and say it's you know,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I didn't I know, you didn't play with Johan, but
- 16:11Speaker 2: like when Johann walks in and it's his start day
- 16:13Speaker 2: or you know, Barrio said his peak, like, what's that
- 16:16Speaker 2: feeling like in the clubhouse?
- 16:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it was one the one that really comes to mind.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Who is Urban Santana in you know whatever the year
- 16:24Speaker 4: that was. He was on an absolute roll in Barrios
- 16:27Speaker 4: kind of he him back to back. It's it's a
- 16:29Speaker 4: weight off of honestly, the entire clubhouse, like the coaching
- 16:33Speaker 4: staff even knows. It's like, all right, we're gonna be
- 16:37Speaker 4: ahead come the seventh today pretty much no matter what happens,
- 16:41Speaker 4: And it's a weight off of the hitters shoulders. They're
- 16:43Speaker 4: not pressing to get that first run across every game.
- 16:46Speaker 4: You know, they're not sweating every bad as much. The
- 16:49Speaker 4: bullpen isn't as concerned. You know, it's gonna be the
- 16:53Speaker 4: eighth and ninth guys or the seventh, eighth, ninth guys.
- 16:55Speaker 4: You know, you're not gonna have to bridge it to
- 16:57Speaker 4: get to anybody and piece it together. It's it's a
- 17:01Speaker 4: calming presence in that rotation and for the entire staff
- 17:05Speaker 4: and the team, and it's over the course of the season.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Having one of those days a week is huge just
- 17:11Speaker 4: for your mental capacity. You when you're constantly sweating about,
- 17:15Speaker 4: all right, who do we have today, where's my guys whatever,
- 17:17Speaker 4: it's like, no, like, you know, todj has got the
- 17:20Speaker 4: rock today, like we'll see in the seventh, you know,
- 17:23Speaker 4: and like we used to joke Taylor Rodgers and I,
- 17:26Speaker 4: you know, and one of those guys are on the
- 17:27Speaker 4: mound like phones phone's broken until the eighth tonight kind
- 17:31Speaker 4: of thing, because it's like, all right, you're gonna throw one, fifteen,
- 17:34Speaker 4: they're gonna go seven, they're gonna punch out whatever, and
- 17:36Speaker 4: then then you can call us, but don't call before that.
- 17:38Speaker 4: And it was just it's a it creates comfort for
- 17:41Speaker 4: everybody and you can settle in and you know, and
- 17:44Speaker 4: for a guy like Taj, like this is kind of
- 17:46Speaker 4: him coming into who he can be for his career.
- 17:49Speaker 4: And it's like, you know, settle into this, get comfortable there,
- 17:52Speaker 4: and maintain your routine to figure out how to stay
- 17:55Speaker 4: right in this lane. And then the the real goal
- 17:59Speaker 4: is when you get that little hiccup like he's already
- 18:01Speaker 4: had you settle right back in and it seems like
- 18:03Speaker 4: he's doing that, and that's you know, credit to him,
- 18:06Speaker 4: the coaches, you know, the analytics, whoever's in his year
- 18:09Speaker 4: between outings and stuff, like they're doing something right. And
- 18:12Speaker 4: you know he's he's like you said, he's showing ace material,
- 18:16Speaker 4: you know, ace presence. And you know, if you can
- 18:18Speaker 4: have him and Joe and Ober and all those guys
- 18:21Speaker 4: kind of settling in like that, Like that's like we
- 18:23Speaker 4: were talking about making moves down the stretch, like it
- 18:26Speaker 4: gives you a reason to you know, when you've got
- 18:28Speaker 4: three horses that you can go to no matter what,
- 18:30Speaker 4: like you can you can make some magic happen.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, who would have thought we were talking about this
- 18:35Speaker 3: team that way? When you lose Pablo Lopez that.
- 18:38Speaker 2: They have a couple of starters still in the stable
- 18:41Speaker 2: and it's been a good development.
- 18:45Speaker 1: It was another nice environment for the bullpen to come
- 18:48Speaker 1: into with the with the massive lead was it was
- 18:53Speaker 1: it was only I guess it was only six to
- 18:54Speaker 1: two at the time Bradley left. The Twins added one
- 18:57Speaker 1: in the seventh, so it was seven too by the
- 18:59Speaker 1: time Eric Orzy got on the mound. He gave up
- 19:02Speaker 1: just one run on two hits in an inning, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: then Bonda and Garcia both with a queen inning to
- 19:08Speaker 1: finish it out. But the other one of the offensive
- 19:11Speaker 1: highlights of the game Byron Buxton, who you have to
- 19:15Speaker 1: look hard for things to criticize him about. But the
- 19:19Speaker 1: one thing that he hadn't done very well recently was
- 19:21Speaker 1: hit with runners in scoring position Dan, but he broke
- 19:23Speaker 1: out of that in a big way.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we were talking about it before the show. This
- 19:28Speaker 3: is cherry picking.
- 19:29Speaker 2: This is the definition of cherry picking. Byron Buxton is
- 19:33Speaker 2: having an amazing season. He was eleventh home run last night,
- 19:37Speaker 2: and it's like in Twins and Senator's history, the great
- 19:40Speaker 2: Sarah Langs put a stat out and of players who
- 19:45Speaker 2: have accomplished eleven home runs in nineteen games in Twins
- 19:48Speaker 2: Center's history, and it's like not very many guys and
- 19:51Speaker 2: Nelson Cruz was the last guy for the Twins.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So Byron Buxton is on a tear. But for some reason,
- 19:57Speaker 3: anytime a dude's on second or third base this season,
- 20:01Speaker 3: he just hasn't had it.
- 20:02Speaker 2: And even in the early in the game, you know
- 20:05Speaker 2: the offense is breaking out, it's it's you know, six
- 20:08Speaker 2: to two, and buck came up with guys on maybe
- 20:10Speaker 2: second and third and fouled out to the catchers like
- 20:13Speaker 2: they extended that streak that's at the bottom there with
- 20:16Speaker 2: runners in scoring position to oh for twenty, which is
- 20:18Speaker 2: just so strange. Iron Buckston for last season was a
- 20:22Speaker 2: nine to eighty four hitter with runners in scoring position.
- 20:26Speaker 2: For his career, he is, let me look it up,
- 20:29Speaker 2: for his career, his ops is seven thirty six. You know,
- 20:33Speaker 2: early in his career he wasn't as good, but he
- 20:35Speaker 2: has become a much more proficient hitter with runners in
- 20:38Speaker 2: scoring position. For him to start the season oh for
- 20:40Speaker 2: twenty in run producing spots is crazy, and he got
- 20:45Speaker 2: it out in the words in the best way with that,
- 20:48Speaker 2: you know, three run bomb the left and maybe eleven
- 20:51Speaker 2: to three and it had to feel good. It's something
- 20:55Speaker 2: definitely going to broach the subject with him coming up,
- 20:58Speaker 2: because you know he knew, you know, like even though
- 21:03Speaker 2: you know he knew, and and he's probably very thrilled
- 21:07Speaker 2: to not have that in there anymore.
- 21:09Speaker 3: He came close last week.
- 21:10Speaker 2: There was a he almost hit a grand Slam and
- 21:13Speaker 2: they lost that game, and so it was at home.
- 21:16Speaker 2: He had a flyball to the warning track just miss
- 21:19Speaker 2: hitting the Grand Slam there day, and I was like,
- 21:21Speaker 2: oh man, is it to end that way? And so
- 21:23Speaker 2: it ended last night and a nice blowout and now
- 21:25Speaker 2: you doesn't.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Have to think about it anymore.
- 21:28Speaker 1: You mentioned Nelson Cruz being the last one to do
- 21:31Speaker 1: this in twenty nineteen. Also that year, Eddie Rosario did
- 21:34Speaker 1: the same thing, Tyler. Do you remember those two heaters
- 21:37Speaker 1: that they were on for that season?
- 21:39Speaker 4: Oh yeah, man, that's I mean Nelson. We were big
- 21:44Speaker 4: on playing the hat game in the bullpen that year.
- 21:46Speaker 4: So I'll try and surmise it really quickly. Every guy
- 21:49Speaker 4: who was in was one hundred bucks a guy. You
- 21:52Speaker 4: threw your hat once a game. If they hit a homer,
- 21:54Speaker 4: you collected, and if you hit you go again you
- 21:57Speaker 4: get one turn.
- 21:57Speaker 5: If you miss, you're done. And Ryan Harper was the one.
- 22:02Speaker 4: He was like sitting behind everyone with his hat in hand,
- 22:05Speaker 4: just as soon as he let the on deck circles
- 22:07Speaker 4: whip in his hat, you know. And Rosie for that matter,
- 22:11Speaker 4: I remember Joe Mauer said this at some point, and
- 22:15Speaker 4: he did. Rosie would get so hot and he was
- 22:17Speaker 4: like that guy can carry a team for a month,
- 22:19Speaker 4: and he would.
- 22:20Speaker 5: At times he would.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I don't Dan could probably tell you stats, but he
- 22:22Speaker 4: would hit like five hundred for like three weeks and
- 22:25Speaker 4: then you kind of disappear for a couple And that
- 22:27Speaker 4: was fine because you know, Chris Sale would come to
- 22:29Speaker 4: town and Rosie would take him thirty rows back in
- 22:32Speaker 4: the right center off of ninety eight. So it was like, hey, man,
- 22:35Speaker 4: you do you So it's it's one of those things
- 22:37Speaker 4: when guys are locked in like that, like don't talk
- 22:40Speaker 4: to him, don't mess with him, just hey, whatever you need,
- 22:42Speaker 4: let me know. We'll take care of it and make
- 22:44Speaker 4: sure they get their bats and gloves to the field
- 22:46Speaker 4: every day.
- 22:46Speaker 5: That's all you're worried.
- 22:47Speaker 1: About before that. Reading Sarah's tweet here or post, I
- 22:53Speaker 1: should say. Twenty sixteen, Brian Dozer twenty twelve, Trevor Ploof
- 22:57Speaker 1: fellow Minnesota Twins podcaster Trevor trev Repluf nineteen eighty eight,
- 23:01Speaker 1: can Herbeck eighty six, Kirby and then four times before
- 23:05Speaker 1: that all Harmon killerb.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Harmon KiB yep it Harmon k Yeah pretty good.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there's one guy in Twins history that hit home
- 23:14Speaker 2: runs before the bomba squad, and that was Harmon Killer. Still,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I still love that stat Tat, that's something you gotta
- 23:21Speaker 2: be like. You played for the team that's set the
- 23:24Speaker 2: all time single season record for home runs and this
- 23:27Speaker 2: is a team that once homered eighty five times. I
- 23:30Speaker 2: believe in a season like this, the Twins being the
- 23:33Speaker 2: team that gave set the all.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Time home running record is one of the funniest. Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 3: It was five guys, man, five guys with thirty bombs
- 23:43Speaker 3: and what team?
- 23:44Speaker 1: What a great segue to our latest Daily Dinger segment.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All right, if you haven't played Daily Dingers, you can
- 23:56Speaker 1: head over to FanDuel right now and it's pretty simple.
- 23:59Speaker 1: You pick who you think is going to hit a
- 24:01Speaker 1: home run in their next game. If you're right, you
- 24:03Speaker 1: can play for free. If you're right, you get a
- 24:05Speaker 1: profit boost. To use on your next bet. Over at
- 24:09Speaker 1: fan Duel, we talked about the twenty nineteen team. Was
- 24:13Speaker 1: that the twenty nineteen that was the home run team?
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yes, we also have some hitters on the Twins. You
- 24:22Speaker 1: have a pretty good chance. I think of home ering
- 24:24Speaker 1: on Friday night, you know, or sorry, Wednesday night. It's Wednesday.
- 24:27Speaker 1: You don't have to pick a Twin of course, but
- 24:29Speaker 1: they are facing Miles Mike Lists of the Nationals, a
- 24:33Speaker 1: right hander. That's the first bit of good news for
- 24:35Speaker 1: the Twins. And then he has an eight two three
- 24:39Speaker 1: ERA this season with eight homers allowed and seven starts,
- 24:42Speaker 1: so Byron Buxton probably a pretty safe pick again just
- 24:46Speaker 1: given the tear he's on. But also, guys, another hitter
- 24:50Speaker 1: that's been heating up lately, Dan Trevor Larnick has had
- 24:53Speaker 1: quite a year, and you wrote about him last night
- 24:56Speaker 1: off of Tuesday's win.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Only thing with him that hasn't showed up so far
- 25:01Speaker 2: as the power. But he's having an all around very
- 25:04Speaker 2: good season and defense is plus three defensive runs saved,
- 25:08Speaker 2: which he hasn't.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Done in four years. But the patience is there.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Clutch hit last night, big double that made it six
- 25:16Speaker 2: to two verse, Yeah, six to two put the game
- 25:19Speaker 2: sort of out of reach at that point. He he's
- 25:22Speaker 2: been very good for them. And this is a guy
- 25:26Speaker 2: that over the course of the off season, had we
- 25:29Speaker 2: had this podcast now season, we would have been shocked
- 25:31Speaker 2: for our November show when when he was brought back,
- 25:34Speaker 2: because the Twins have so many left handed hitting outfielders
- 25:38Speaker 2: at the major league level and at Triple A, because
- 25:40Speaker 2: behind Walner.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And Outman is Alan Roden and Walker.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Jenkins and Emmanuel Rodriguez, and it's like, why did they
- 25:48Speaker 2: spend their four point four eight million bucks on Trevor Larnick.
- 25:52Speaker 2: There are other needs And they said it in December.
- 25:56Speaker 2: They think there's something in there with Trevor Larnock. And
- 25:59Speaker 2: he's been you know, I like, it's been fun to
- 26:03Speaker 2: talk to him. I talked to him in September about
- 26:05Speaker 2: this and he was very uncertain about what he was
- 26:08Speaker 2: going to end up being, where he was going to
- 26:10Speaker 2: be playing this year. He accepted the fact that he
- 26:13Speaker 2: might be done with the Twins. He just decided in
- 26:16Speaker 2: the offseason, Hey, wherever I am, I'm gonna be ready.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And he's been outstanding so far. He's got eight forty
- 26:22Speaker 2: three ops. The first twenty games, he only had thirty
- 26:25Speaker 2: nine played appearances because they faced so many lefties. But
- 26:28Speaker 2: he changed his routine. He knew he wouldn't be starting
- 26:31Speaker 2: a ton in that stretch. And we talked about this
- 26:35Speaker 2: early on, and he said he used to come to
- 26:39Speaker 2: a game if it was six forty and he'd just
- 26:42Speaker 2: get ready at noon or eleven thirty, no matter what,
- 26:45Speaker 2: about seven hours before the game.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Now he knows on a night when he is going
- 26:51Speaker 3: to pinch hit.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Later that he starts at three forty and gets warm
- 26:57Speaker 2: and does his work during the early part of the
- 27:00Speaker 2: game in the cage so that he's fresher when he's
- 27:03Speaker 2: called on for played appearance in the fourth inning, the
- 27:06Speaker 2: fifth inning, that kind of thing. And I think he's
- 27:09Speaker 2: just accepted the role that he's give me a platoon guy.
- 27:12Speaker 2: You know, this is his sixth year with the club.
- 27:14Speaker 2: He only has four years of service time so far.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Injuries kind of played a part in that early on
- 27:19Speaker 2: stuff like that, But he he clearly understands what is
- 27:22Speaker 2: being asked of him and like he's adapted.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Really well to it.
- 27:27Speaker 2: And he and Austin Martin early on were platoon a ton.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Matt Wallner's slump had meant that Martin's getting more starts
- 27:35Speaker 2: and right lately, but Larnak has done a great job
- 27:37Speaker 2: mentally adjusting him. Now they's facing some righties. He's continued
- 27:40Speaker 2: that start, he's had big hits, he's walking. His walk
- 27:44Speaker 2: rate is up to eighteen percent. He's a ten percent
- 27:47Speaker 2: career guy going into this year. His strikeouts are really down.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Three years ago he struck out thirty four percent of
- 27:53Speaker 2: the time. Last two years he'd dropped it to about
- 27:56Speaker 2: twenty one twenty two percent. This year it's seventeen percent.
- 27:59Speaker 3: So pay at bats, good eye and just coming through
- 28:03Speaker 3: getting on base a ton, scoring runs.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It's it's been a really nice development for the Twins
- 28:09Speaker 2: that he's a one war player. And again it's not
- 28:12Speaker 2: that Trevor Larnak didn't deserve the four point four to
- 28:15Speaker 2: seven million a win above replacement is worth generally speaking,
- 28:19Speaker 2: eight million dollars, so he's getting paid half a war. Yeah,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and it's not that he wasn't like worth it. It's
- 28:29Speaker 2: more like, why did they do this? A lot of
- 28:32Speaker 2: people wonder why. I mean, like there's so many left hands.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Matt Waalner is younger and has more power, and so
- 28:40Speaker 2: it was like, we understand why Matt Waalner is the
- 28:42Speaker 2: guy they would choose at this point.
- 28:44Speaker 3: But the Twins said they saw something.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Larnic has made them look really smart early on, and
- 28:52Speaker 2: it's been a good development for the team.
- 28:54Speaker 1: You do bring up a good point for the purposes
- 28:56Speaker 1: of this segment that the power has not been there.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Just one home run right so far this year. So
- 29:02Speaker 1: the question, then, Dan is who is your pick to
- 29:04Speaker 1: Homer tonight?
- 29:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna go Walner. I liked what I saw the
- 29:07Speaker 2: other day. He had to double off the wall and
- 29:10Speaker 2: the single. He's really been wearing it lately. But you know,
- 29:15Speaker 2: maybe that he had a couple of days off ahead
- 29:17Speaker 2: of that game Sunday, Maybe that the work that he
- 29:20Speaker 2: was able to get in there and facing an opponent that.
- 29:23Speaker 3: You know is having a tough time, maybe this is
- 29:25Speaker 3: the right matchup.
- 29:26Speaker 5: For him, all right, Tyler, I think I like Larnick man.
- 29:30Speaker 4: He's you know, he's he's hot. He and Michaels I
- 29:33Speaker 4: can see that he throws up big curveball. You know,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I said this earlier in one of our shows. He
- 29:38Speaker 4: clipped me on trying to dump the curveball. And so
- 29:41Speaker 4: I'm kind of foreseeing that one. I want to see
- 29:43Speaker 4: the big the big deuce going out to right center.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I was right last time when I picked Buckston last week.
- 29:50Speaker 1: So I'll ride the hot hand again and say double
- 29:54Speaker 1: down Byron Buxton. If you'd like to play, head over

- 30:33Speaker 1: All right, the Twins have two more games in Washington.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Dan Dan is there in our nation's capital. How's the hotel?
- 30:41Speaker 2: Dan?
- 30:43Speaker 3: Hotel is fantastic?
- 30:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 30:44Speaker 3: Good good, yeah, real quick.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they're catching the Nationals and a good time. They're
- 30:51Speaker 2: terrible at home. I think the Nationals are like four
- 30:54Speaker 2: and thirteen at home so far, which is crazy.
- 30:57Speaker 3: They're actually good on the road.
- 30:59Speaker 2: But we talked about Joe Ryan and the Twins, you know,
- 31:03Speaker 2: getting lucky. There another development across baseball, Carlos Correa just
- 31:10Speaker 2: yesterday went out with significant left ankle injury. Could miss weeks,
- 31:17Speaker 2: if not months, and I think the Twins that was, man,
- 31:24Speaker 2: it would be tough to have your thirty six million
- 31:26Speaker 2: dollar guy, and for the Astros, he's a twenty six
- 31:28Speaker 2: million dollar guy because the Twins are eating ten million
- 31:31Speaker 2: dollars of the salary. But man, I can't imagine where
- 31:34Speaker 2: the Twins would be if he was on the roster
- 31:36Speaker 2: when they have one hundred million dollar payroll and he
- 31:39Speaker 2: was making thirty six million and he's out for weeks,
- 31:41Speaker 2: if not months. He's having a really nice season so far,
- 31:45Speaker 2: and it's it's a bummer because Carlos krey is, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 2: there's a Hall of Fame talent there, and he did
- 31:51Speaker 2: everything the Twins asked of him while he was with
- 31:52Speaker 2: the Twins and provided some serious on the field leadership
- 31:57Speaker 2: and a stellar example. And it's this was a concern.
- 32:01Speaker 2: This isn't the ankle that they worried about. They were
- 32:04Speaker 2: as always worried about the right ankle. But it's a crazy.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Like to hear your.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Star player is out for weeks, if not months, is
- 32:15Speaker 2: a weird spot to be.
- 32:16Speaker 3: So Twins really had a.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Fortunate dodging bullet dodging Tuesday all around between you know, Joe,
- 32:24Speaker 2: Ryan and Korea.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Bailey Ober gets the ball tonight against Miles Mike Liss.
- 32:32Speaker 1: As we mentioned earlier, Bailly Ober, we mentioned the stat
- 32:36Speaker 1: of pitchers who've thrown at least five innings and allowed
- 32:39Speaker 1: two or fewer runs. Ober is responsible for four of
- 32:42Speaker 1: those games. Four of his last five starts have gone
- 32:45Speaker 1: at least five innings and allowed two or fewer runs.
- 32:47Speaker 1: He's gone at least six in each of the last
- 32:50Speaker 1: four Tyler, He's looked really strong and hoping to build
- 32:54Speaker 1: off that tonight.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 4: Man, it's like I said last time. You know, he
- 32:59Speaker 4: seems to really be embracing what he is. You know,
- 33:03Speaker 4: and as the season goes along, who's to say he doesn't.
- 33:06Speaker 4: You know, weather warms up, things like that. They're a
- 33:08Speaker 4: little harder, you know, settling into the season. But he's
- 33:12Speaker 4: comfortable with who he is. He's he's game plan incorrectly,
- 33:15Speaker 4: you know, whoever's calling his games, you know, whether it's
- 33:18Speaker 4: Jeffer's or Karatina, like they are all on the same page.
- 33:22Speaker 4: It's it's been great to see because all I heard
- 33:24Speaker 4: about all spring was OBErs Villas down. You know, Obersvillas down.
- 33:27Speaker 4: That's like, well, is he getting people out? Because that's
- 33:31Speaker 4: at the end of the day, what matters. You know,
- 33:33Speaker 4: analytics can tell you a lot of things. They you know,
- 33:36Speaker 4: I remember hearing Griffin Jackson. All ever heard was always
- 33:39Speaker 4: got a bad fastball, And I'm like, how are you
- 33:41Speaker 4: gonna tell the guy he's got a bad fastball, like
- 33:43Speaker 4: it's ninety five.
- 33:44Speaker 5: You know, I don't want to hear that. And so
- 33:46Speaker 5: it's execution.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It's having a plan, going out there and having some confidence.
- 33:51Speaker 4: And that's that's the most dangerous thing. When a guy
- 33:53Speaker 4: like that gets confident and he's got pitches going six
- 33:56Speaker 4: different directions. You know, I'm not gonna say he's Greg Maddox,
- 34:00Speaker 4: but like that's all everybody talked about Maddox. It's like
- 34:02Speaker 4: he had it on a string going left, right, up, down,
- 34:05Speaker 4: And that's what Bailey's doing right now.
- 34:07Speaker 5: And you can tell by the bats.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Guys are out in front, they're hit stuff off the
- 34:11Speaker 4: end they're popping up to the catcher foul territory. It's
- 34:14Speaker 4: you know, they're not comfy at bats for a guy
- 34:16Speaker 4: that's not throwing ninety eight, and you know that's all
- 34:19Speaker 4: you can ask for, and you know, hopefully, hopefully another
- 34:21Speaker 4: one comes out.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Tonight should be an interesting matchup just because there's some
- 34:26Speaker 2: many young guys in that Nationals lineup and there's some
- 34:29Speaker 2: real talent there. I cannot name more than three of
- 34:32Speaker 2: those guys, James Wood, cj Abrams. I know those two guys,
- 34:36Speaker 2: the kid Nile that hit second instant, he's past, he's
- 34:39Speaker 2: got some and need but men, it is a young,
- 34:43Speaker 2: inexperienced lamp that would seem like it would be fun
- 34:46Speaker 2: for a veteran pitcher who knows where it's going.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Yep.
- 34:50Speaker 1: The Twins have a chance to do something they haven't
- 34:53Speaker 1: done since that Boston series we talked about earlier, which
- 34:56Speaker 1: is win a series. After winning the first game last night,
- 35:00Speaker 1: Bailey over versus Miles micha list is that five forty
- 35:03Speaker 1: five Central tonight, and then the series finale is at
- 35:07Speaker 1: twelve oh five Central Thursday, Simeon Woods Richardson against Jake Irvin.
- 35:12Speaker 1: Simon Wood Richardson having having a rough go of it
- 35:14Speaker 1: so far, still looking for that first win. But Dan, what,
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's been a long stretch since they've had a victorious series. Like,
- 35:24Speaker 1: how badly does the clubhouse want and need this?
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it would be cool to say three games in
- 35:30Speaker 2: a row, it's a winning streak.
- 35:32Speaker 3: It would has happened before exactly.
- 35:36Speaker 2: They could use it absolutely, just because look, they took
- 35:41Speaker 2: split the four game series with the Jas and Sunday
- 35:45Speaker 2: was that Joe Ryan start where got eight and two thirds.
- 35:47Speaker 3: From the bullpen. They they just need some good vibes
- 35:51Speaker 3: they need They weathered.
- 35:52Speaker 2: A tough stretch there to where the bullpen gave away
- 35:56Speaker 2: quite a few games and it's not like the vibes
- 36:00Speaker 2: in the clubhouse, but they definitely could get some They
- 36:03Speaker 2: could use some positive reinforcement. And this is one of
- 36:05Speaker 2: those right place, right time kind of things with the Nationals.
- 36:08Speaker 2: So got to take advantage. While you have a team
- 36:11Speaker 2: that is also, you know, young and inexperience, the Twins
- 36:15Speaker 2: are definitely more experienced, especially on the pitching side, and
- 36:19Speaker 2: this is one of those chances to kind of get
- 36:21Speaker 2: some going in your direction.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Tyler, I didn't I didn't look it up. But I'm
- 36:25Speaker 1: assuming you played during some seasons where the Ale Central
- 36:29Speaker 1: was average. Yeah, when you're when when the team's record
- 36:34Speaker 1: isn't particularly eye popping, but yet you're still in the race.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Like is that do you still feel that same energy
- 36:41Speaker 1: or is there sort of that unlig knowledge of Like uh.
- 36:45Speaker 4: I get spired up now still think about going to Cleveland,
- 36:47Speaker 4: Like that's always that was kind of always the place
- 36:50Speaker 4: no matter what the season had done, you know, whether
- 36:53Speaker 4: we just got swept by the East by somebody or whatever.
- 36:56Speaker 4: But like you go to Cleveland, it's like there's that
- 36:58Speaker 4: little energy when you go in that stadium. You know,
- 37:00Speaker 4: it's it's always kind of the place where everything comes
- 37:03Speaker 4: to a head at the end of the season. You know,
- 37:06Speaker 4: we clinched there one year. I remember vividly, you know,
- 37:09Speaker 4: stumbling home at like three with Rodge you know after
- 37:12Speaker 4: one of those, you know, it's like.
- 37:15Speaker 5: And they get excited like that.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Those fans show up, you know when they're good and
- 37:19Speaker 4: they're in it, like they show up.
- 37:21Speaker 5: I love listening to their broadcast. I hate to say,
- 37:24Speaker 5: like Tom.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Hamilton, Tom Hamilton Hall of Famer man.
- 37:28Speaker 4: People cannot stand it. I e fing love it. Like
- 37:33Speaker 4: he is, but he's got a great voice. Excitement is all.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 37:38Speaker 4: So between that and like you know, every game matters there,
- 37:42Speaker 4: you got it. You know, they're always competitive, they're a
- 37:44Speaker 4: different ball club. They're they're scrappy. You know, they've always
- 37:47Speaker 4: they know how to pitch. Like it's always a good series,
- 37:49Speaker 4: and yeah, it's it's always a fun place. And you know,
- 37:53Speaker 4: you win the Central, you're in the playoffs. You know,
- 37:55Speaker 4: that's that's the the with Like you said, it's never
- 37:59Speaker 4: like a runaway, so you're not getting in the wild
- 38:02Speaker 4: card most of the time, so you better win that
- 38:04Speaker 4: division and so these games matter, man, it's Cleveland's a
- 38:07Speaker 4: spot to spot to win.
- 38:10Speaker 2: To help with that though they do, Hey, no one
- 38:14Speaker 2: thing about that that clinch stuff.
- 38:15Speaker 3: And then I'm sure you like this will jar remembory.
- 38:19Speaker 2: The Friday night game, it rained and they let odo
- 38:23Speaker 2: start and you guys were on fumes.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Is you lost Panada to a suspension? You guys, it
- 38:30Speaker 3: was just.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Brios and Odozzi at that point in the rotation, Like
- 38:33Speaker 2: you there, somebody had an injury to They're like, oh,
- 38:37Speaker 2: Gibby couldn't Gibby was like still hid that stomach virus
- 38:41Speaker 2: all season where he moved to the bullpen by and
- 38:44Speaker 2: so they let you guys start, and it was total
- 38:47Speaker 2: gamesmanship by Cleveland to start the game on Friday, and
- 38:49Speaker 2: you got like an inning or two into it and
- 38:52Speaker 2: they banged it. It rained it out, and so you
- 38:54Speaker 2: lost Odo. And so like Devin Smeltzer and Lewis Thorpe
- 38:58Speaker 2: I believe are the two guys that's or did the
- 39:00Speaker 2: double header, and uh Snow hit that big Grand Slam
- 39:03Speaker 2: in the nightcap.
- 39:06Speaker 3: The opener, I can't remember.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I just know Polanko hit a bomb off Clevenger, and
- 39:10Speaker 2: Clevenger talked some trash afterwards about Polanka was just.
- 39:13Speaker 3: A year after his suspension, and it was.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Like there was a it was it was a heated rivalry.
- 39:23Speaker 2: And then you guys swept that double header, and I
- 39:25Speaker 2: still remember the Snow Grand Slam, like Bremer's call from that,
- 39:28Speaker 2: and like you guys won the division by eight games
- 39:31Speaker 2: after that. You put them away right there and ran
- 39:33Speaker 2: away with it at the end.
- 39:34Speaker 3: But yeah, it's.
- 39:36Speaker 5: Always it's always place to play, one place to plate.
- 39:41Speaker 1: And the Twins will be there this weekend. We'll be
- 39:43Speaker 1: back with you on Friday to preview that series a
- 39:46Speaker 1: little more and hopefully tell some more stories, because that
- 39:48Speaker 1: was great. That was twenty nineteen. You clinched in Cleveland.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Uh maybe maybe eighteen?
- 39:56Speaker 4: Oh there, I mean, well, we clinched the one time
- 40:00Speaker 4: we watched the White Sox lose to the Angels. That
- 40:03Speaker 4: was in Cleveland where we sat there forever with Bartolo
- 40:06Speaker 4: give us. Oh, that was seventeen. That was seventeen, and
- 40:10Speaker 4: then I want to say nineteen. It's it's been Cleveland,
- 40:13Speaker 4: I think twice maybe, but yeah, it's one of those.
- 40:15Speaker 4: It always comes down to a series in that place,
- 40:17Speaker 4: so it's just it's always makes it fun. Great clubhouse staff.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Looking forward to that one. It could be to put
- 40:23Speaker 1: the Twins back in first place at this rate. Who knows,
- 40:26Speaker 1: we will. We'll see how the next couple of days
- 40:28Speaker 1: unfolding the packed Ale Central. But as always, thanks for listening.
- 40:32Speaker 1: If you like what you hear, please like, subscribe, leave
- 40:34Speaker 1: us a comment, love to hear from you, and we
- 40:37Speaker 1: will catch you next time on Twin Cities Territory. But bye, everybody,
