- 1:07Speaker 2: This weekend, NASCAR has the Sonoma where things get a
- 1:09Speaker 2: little weird in the best way possible. No super speedway chaos,
- 1:12Speaker 2: no short track beating and banging. Just ten turns a
- 1:15Speaker 2: road course and a whole lot of opportunities for somebody
- 1:18Speaker 2: to surprise the field. And Fandel has an offer that'll
- 1:21Speaker 2: keep you in the action all week long, and right now,
- 1:24Speaker 2: when you bet just five dollars, you will get fifty

- 1:37Speaker 2: races where strategy matters, mistakes get amplified, and a guy
- 1:41Speaker 2: you aren't even thinking about on Thursday it can suddenly
- 1:44Speaker 2: be battling for the win on Sunday.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So whether you're.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Backing one of the road course aces, hunting for value
- 1:50Speaker 2: further down the board, or just trying to pick who
- 1:52Speaker 2: ends up spraying the champagne in Wine Country, Fandel has
- 1:56Speaker 2: plenty of ways to get in all the action. And
- 1:58Speaker 2: with three hundred and fifty dollars in honus BET's coming

- 2:14Speaker 2: Larson on Racing with the Boys.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Kyle, what's up?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Bro?
- 2:20Speaker 3: What's up?
- 2:21Speaker 4: Kyle, Where are you at, dude? Looks like a very
- 2:23Speaker 4: tropical where you're at right now?
- 2:25Speaker 3: Well? San Diego? Shit?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Is there something going on there in San Diego?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Just a little little gathering, Just a.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Little gathering boys just hanging out to get a little
- 2:36Speaker 4: mid season vak.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it feels like.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Anyways, I love Yeah, what part of are you actually? Something?
- 2:43Speaker 4: Just cut? But are you in San Diego?
- 2:45Speaker 3: Like? What?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:46Speaker 4: In San Diego? Are you like in a suburb area.
- 2:50Speaker 3: The Coronado Island, like where the next to the base
- 2:54Speaker 3: pretty much?
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Are you at that?
- 2:55Speaker 4: Are you at that Hotel del Coronado? Yep, buddy, I
- 3:00Speaker 4: went there, So I grew up in Arizona. I went
- 3:01Speaker 4: there for a wedding when I was a kid, and
- 3:03Speaker 4: I was infactuated with the fact that there was a
- 3:06Speaker 4: haunted room there and they have like books on it
- 3:07Speaker 4: and stuff like that.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Really, Oh, I didn't know that, dude.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Go in the gift shop. There's like a room. I think,
- 3:13Speaker 4: I don't know what room it is, but there's like
- 3:14Speaker 4: a whole room. It's like supposed to be like spooky
- 3:16Speaker 4: and scary.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I'll check that out. We got our kids
- 3:19Speaker 3: here right now, so they'd probably.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Hear that, Yeah, yeah, probably probably don't want to do that.
- 3:22Speaker 4: You want to hit it, you want me to hit
- 3:23Speaker 4: it because I feel like this guy, this is we're
- 3:25Speaker 4: talking to a legend right now.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean number one, welcome to Racing with the boys.
- 3:29Speaker 2: We were talking with Kyle Larson. Regarded as the most
- 3:32Speaker 2: talented driver in NASCAR. He's attempted the double, which is
- 3:36Speaker 2: the ND five hundred and the Coke six hundred all
- 3:39Speaker 2: in one day. He's won two championships, including last year's.
- 3:43Speaker 2: He races for Hendrick's Motorsports, which is like the Patriots
- 3:46Speaker 2: and Yankees. Everybody welcome Kyle Larson and racing with the boys.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Absolutely, There's only there's only three of us that usually
- 3:53Speaker 4: there's a lot more guys in here when they're in person.
- 3:55Speaker 4: But Kyle, buddy, we're reading over the notes, we're looking
- 3:57Speaker 4: at everything, and I first off, King ratulations on being
- 4:00Speaker 4: regarded one of the most pure race car drivers of
- 4:03Speaker 4: all time. I started to look through the notes and
- 4:05Speaker 4: it's like, this guy loves racing. Nobody loves racing more
- 4:08Speaker 4: than this guy. And then Will starts breaking down your
- 4:10Speaker 4: entire family, how everybody's in it. But when you get
- 4:13Speaker 4: to the point you're at where you won the Cup
- 4:16Speaker 4: Series last year, there's obviously a big announcement we'll talk
- 4:18Speaker 4: about in a little bit. And you are racing thirty
- 4:21Speaker 4: eight weeks out of the year justin NASCAR. But when
- 4:23Speaker 4: you have those breaks in those other fourteen weeks or
- 4:25Speaker 4: whatever it is, you're rip around all the other places.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Like what do you ever get burnt out?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Ever a little bit? Yeah, this time of year. Really,
- 4:36Speaker 3: this summer gets crazy for me with all the dirt
- 4:39Speaker 3: track race and that I do outside a NASCAR. So
- 4:42Speaker 3: the last couple of weeks has been pretty busy racing. God,
- 4:47Speaker 3: I think I raced like eleven out of fourteen days
- 4:50Speaker 3: or something. Christ Yeah, So it's fun. It's fun, don't
- 4:55Speaker 3: get me wrong. I love it. But I wish I
- 4:57Speaker 3: could be at two places at once, you know. I
- 4:59Speaker 3: wish I could be with the family sometimes while I'm
- 5:02Speaker 3: at the racetrack race. But no, I enjoy it. It's
- 5:06Speaker 3: I'm still young. I'll be thirty four next month, so
- 5:09Speaker 3: I feel like I got to take advantage of these years.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But just yeah, race, enjoy it and try to do
- 5:15Speaker 3: a good job.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Can I ask why you are so accomplished, and obviously
- 5:21Speaker 2: it's like any any veteran and somebody again, you're in
- 5:24Speaker 2: your thirties, like every athlete kind of goes through because
- 5:26Speaker 2: it was the dream growing up, right, And then you
- 5:29Speaker 2: hit these spots where you do have a lot of success.
- 5:33Speaker 2: You do have a lot of success, and you can
- 5:35Speaker 2: kind of control your schedule a little bit more. Why
- 5:38Speaker 2: do you continue to race so much? Legitimately, bro on
- 5:42Speaker 2: here note number two. The guy never stops racing. He
- 5:45Speaker 2: loves racing sprint cars, midgets, dirt, late model, special events,
- 5:49Speaker 2: racing your kids in the car. If there's a race involved,
- 5:51Speaker 2: you're doing it. Why continue to do it when you
- 5:55Speaker 2: kind of don't have to?
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I mean, yeah, I don't have to. But
- 6:01Speaker 3: I think the few reasons why I keep doing it
- 6:04Speaker 3: Number one is because I love it. But then I
- 6:07Speaker 3: also feel like it's a great tool for me to
- 6:10Speaker 3: get better and hold my craft. I don't know if
- 6:13Speaker 3: you guys are familiar with sprint cars and stuff, but
- 6:16Speaker 3: they're nine hundred and fifty horse power on a fourteen
- 6:19Speaker 3: hundred pound race car, so they are wild fast, violent.
- 6:26Speaker 3: All that sort of thing kind of helps I think
- 6:28Speaker 3: for me, slow the stock car down fuel wise, and
- 6:32Speaker 3: NASCAR cars have six hundred and seventy horse power and
- 6:36Speaker 3: weigh thirty six hundred pounds, so the power to weight
- 6:39Speaker 3: ratio is quite a bit different. So for me racing
- 6:42Speaker 3: the dirt track, the cars are crazy, the track conditions
- 6:46Speaker 3: are changing every lap, the races are short, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 3: they're only like thirty laps, so it's it's just a
- 6:54Speaker 3: different type of racing. But I feel like the aggressiveness
- 6:57Speaker 3: really helps for NASCAR so and too. These days, we
- 7:01Speaker 3: don't get much behind the wheel time. You know, we
- 7:03Speaker 3: only have twenty minutes of practice, then you go into qualifying,
- 7:06Speaker 3: and then you go race, so where that's different. The
- 7:09Speaker 3: schedule used to be you'd have three hours of practice
- 7:12Speaker 3: before you get to the race. You'd have test days
- 7:15Speaker 3: and stuff. So now the opportunity to learn behind the
- 7:19Speaker 3: wheel of a stock car is much less, So I
- 7:23Speaker 3: try to fill that void by your racing the dirt stuff.
- 7:26Speaker 4: When you're talking about you only get a certain amount
- 7:28Speaker 4: of training per week. Is that like a league NASCAR
- 7:32Speaker 4: rule that's taking place where they now have like parameters
- 7:35Speaker 4: on everybody or is it just kind of a universal thing.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, No, it's been a NASCAR thing well, and I
- 7:41Speaker 3: think the teams kind of asked for it as well
- 7:43Speaker 3: because they were getting out of hand with spending money
- 7:47Speaker 3: as costs went up, So it was I think it
- 7:50Speaker 3: in collaborate with NASCAR and the teams, but to set
- 7:53Speaker 3: boundaries on testing and practice schedules. So yeah, it's really
- 7:58Speaker 3: just a way to cut costs. And it's definitely I
- 8:03Speaker 3: feel like accomplished that in a way, but your teams
- 8:07Speaker 3: still find other ways to spend a lot of money.
- 8:09Speaker 3: So yeah, right now, I mean, I wish we could
- 8:12Speaker 3: practice more because we've been trying to find the right
- 8:16Speaker 3: balance on our race car here this year, and it's
- 8:18Speaker 3: hard to do that, you know, we only have twenty
- 8:20Speaker 3: minutes of practice. So but yeah, no, it is what
- 8:24Speaker 3: it is. It's all the same for everybody.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So you and it.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Used to be a so you're saying you only get
- 8:28Speaker 2: twenty minutes of practice now, and it used to be
- 8:31Speaker 2: what hours you get hours to practice.
- 8:35Speaker 3: So I would say ten this year's ten twelve years ago.
- 8:39Speaker 3: It used to be for testing anyways, was like unlimited,
- 8:42Speaker 3: so you could test every day of the week. So
- 8:44Speaker 3: the Jeff Gordon's, the Jimmy Johnson's you know, Tony Stewart's stuff.
- 8:50Speaker 3: You that generation, they were really busy, you know, testing
- 8:53Speaker 3: during the week and then you go to the track
- 8:55Speaker 3: on the weekend and you would get For me, when
- 8:58Speaker 3: I first started, uh, let's see, normal schedule weekend schedule
- 9:02Speaker 3: would be like Friday morning you would have like a
- 9:06Speaker 3: I don't know hour practice and then there would be
- 9:09Speaker 3: a break and then you would qualify that afternoon, and
- 9:14Speaker 3: then Saturday you would have two like hour to hour
- 9:17Speaker 3: and a half practices to dial in your race car
- 9:21Speaker 3: and then you go race on Sunday. So yeah, once COVID,
- 9:24Speaker 3: once COVID happened, well they completely cut out practice. They
- 9:29Speaker 3: just would show up and race and that kind of
- 9:32Speaker 3: that kind of was yeah, it was it was fun
- 9:35Speaker 3: and that was kind of the thing for a couple
- 9:37Speaker 3: of years. And then now they've just brought it into
- 9:40Speaker 3: where we just have yeah, twenty minutes of practice, twenty
- 9:43Speaker 3: five minutes of practice, I guess, but one set of tires,
- 9:46Speaker 3: like it's it's really you don't really have time to
- 9:49Speaker 3: adjust on it, you don't, you know, how you show
- 9:51Speaker 3: up to the racetrack is typically pretty close to how
- 9:54Speaker 3: your setup is for the race.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Dude, it's so the COVID thing's so interesting and not practicing.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Will and I were on the Titans in twenty twenty.
- 10:02Speaker 4: We had a couple of week period where like a
- 10:04Speaker 4: lot of guys were testing positive and we're supposed to
- 10:07Speaker 4: play the Pittsburgh Steelers, so that got pushed like four
- 10:10Speaker 4: or five days we had to practice on our own.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Then all of a sudden, they're.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Like, hey, it went into our bye week. Remember yah.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Yeah, It being like this is now your bye week
- 10:18Speaker 4: and you're no longer playing the Steelers. You're gonna play
- 10:21Speaker 4: the Buffalo Bills on a Tuesday, And we just showed
- 10:23Speaker 4: up on Monday, hit a quick walkthrough, and then we
- 10:26Speaker 4: beat the Bills ass like forty two to ten. It
- 10:29Speaker 4: was and saying to the point where like, hey, maybe
- 10:31Speaker 4: this practice thing is.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Like hey, coach, you mind if we don't practice anymore.
- 10:36Speaker 4: It seems like we're the best versions of ourselves as
- 10:38Speaker 4: you since you've been in the game for so long,
- 10:39Speaker 4: and like clearly you look at your background and like,
- 10:41Speaker 4: not only you, but your entire family is just so
- 10:44Speaker 4: involved in racing. When you see this transition take place
- 10:47Speaker 4: of like hey, you can kind of dial in your
- 10:49Speaker 4: car as much as you want during the week, then
- 10:51Speaker 4: you go and race. And you talked about the Jeff
- 10:53Speaker 4: Gordon to Tony Stewarts, the Dale's, you know, Jimmy Johnson,
- 10:56Speaker 4: those guys, and now this new generation is coming up
- 11:00Speaker 4: where they're only getting twenty minutes of practice a day
- 11:03Speaker 4: or I think during the week they're in the sims.
- 11:05Speaker 4: It's a much different landscape of how you prepare for
- 11:07Speaker 4: a race. Have you seen a change in the level
- 11:10Speaker 4: of racing as of recent since the COVID is taking place.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Well, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I mean how
- 11:18Speaker 3: you prepare definitely looks a lot different these days, and
- 11:21Speaker 3: especially for the younger guys coming in who don't aren't
- 11:25Speaker 3: able to get in the real car and go learn it.
- 11:28Speaker 3: So yeah, a lot more SIM time. And not every
- 11:32Speaker 3: driver is doing that. I would say you're younger guys though,
- 11:35Speaker 3: because that's how they're trying to learn, and they're in
- 11:37Speaker 3: the SIM quite a bit. But for like me, I
- 11:41Speaker 3: don't get in the SIM a whole lot. I've done
- 11:42Speaker 3: it more this year and I feel like it's helped
- 11:45Speaker 3: for sure. It's just hard, you know. I think when
- 11:48Speaker 3: the common race fan here is a simulator. They expect
- 11:52Speaker 3: that it's identical to the real thing, and it feels
- 11:55Speaker 3: exactly the same, and it's such a great tool. Which
- 11:58Speaker 3: it's a good tool, but you don't you don't get
- 12:01Speaker 3: the forces, you don't get the feel. It's kind of
- 12:05Speaker 3: all a little bit of an educated guess on if
- 12:08Speaker 3: the physics are close enough. So yeah, it's hard to
- 12:13Speaker 3: put a ton of stock in it for me or confidence.
- 12:15Speaker 3: But I like to use it for the road courses,
- 12:20Speaker 3: especially just to get you for the elevations and things
- 12:24Speaker 3: like that. But then yeah, I mean for the racing.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I would just say this race car, which came after
- 12:31Speaker 3: COVID twenty twenty two was the first year of this
- 12:34Speaker 3: race car. It's changed a lot the style of racing.
- 12:37Speaker 3: It's super aggressive, overly aggressive in a lot of ways
- 12:41Speaker 3: because the car is so tough and you can just
- 12:43Speaker 3: you can hit things and not get a ton of damage.
- 12:46Speaker 3: So that's something we learned early on. And I think
- 12:51Speaker 3: I'll use it to our advantages or even disadvantages, you
- 12:54Speaker 3: know sometimes. But so yeah, it's just a man, It's
- 12:58Speaker 3: it's wild out there. It's it's definitely way crazier than
- 13:02Speaker 3: it used to be, and just yeah, all of us,
- 13:05Speaker 3: you know, racing like assholes kind of.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you can feel that the using of some
- 13:11Speaker 2: of the old school mentality. Yeah, that's coming out of
- 13:13Speaker 2: he When we got the sims, people think I would
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'd be like in a sim car, and then I
- 13:18Speaker 2: go to my boy and be like, this is as
- 13:19Speaker 2: close as like I'm basically racing Nascar.
- 13:21Speaker 1: You're in the simulator.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But you see the uh, the using of the old
- 13:25Speaker 2: school mentality happening. How fascinating is it for you because
- 13:27Speaker 2: you have a teammate, William Byron, who's been on Racing
- 13:29Speaker 2: with the boys a couple of weeks ago. How fascinating
- 13:32Speaker 2: is it for you from your vantage point seeing this
- 13:34Speaker 2: dude come in somewhat go from video gaming to to
- 13:38Speaker 2: racing Nascar.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, well so that was like the I Racing side
- 13:43Speaker 3: of it, And yeah, dude, I don't know if you
- 13:46Speaker 3: guys have been on I Racing at all, but like,
- 13:48Speaker 3: when I get on I Racing, I'm very average. Like
- 13:53Speaker 3: those guys are those guys putting hours and hours of
- 13:57Speaker 3: time on it every day and they are so good,
- 14:02Speaker 3: like they are running to the absolute limit and understand
- 14:06Speaker 3: the the little tricks of the trade of the game.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So they're really really good and and yeah, you know
- 14:13Speaker 3: some of them that are fortunate enough to get to
- 14:15Speaker 3: race the real thing, it definitely transfers over. So a
- 14:19Speaker 3: guy like William And I mean, he's one of the
- 14:22Speaker 3: best in the sport right now. So yeah, it's a
- 14:26Speaker 3: it's an awesome platform, uh too. You learn racing and
- 14:31Speaker 3: then hopefully you get lucky enough to go do the
- 14:34Speaker 3: real thing. So yeah, I Racing has just gotten better
- 14:38Speaker 3: and better. I feel like their physics, uh, and feel
- 14:40Speaker 3: for the car sometimes relates more to me than the
- 14:47Speaker 3: NASCAR simulator. I don't know why that is, but yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 3: it's just, uh, it's a great tool for sure.
- 14:54Speaker 2: What was your first reaction when an I Racing guy
- 14:58Speaker 2: was coming in the NASCAR?
- 14:59Speaker 1: You know, was it kind of a chuckle?
- 15:01Speaker 2: I'm thinking if it's us and some I'm just gonna
- 15:03Speaker 2: say AI for just a lack of a better term,
- 15:05Speaker 2: but some AI guy, some AI linebacker was coming in.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's like, okay, buddy, welcome to the Baker.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Well, welcome to the big show.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But let's see your computer can Yeah, what was your
- 15:15Speaker 2: first reaction?
- 15:16Speaker 3: Honestly, I mean I don't remember exactly but I have
- 15:20Speaker 3: a lot of respect for those guys because when I
- 15:23Speaker 3: get on, like I said, I'm very average. So yeah,
- 15:27Speaker 3: I'm like, you know, if they're that much faster than
- 15:29Speaker 3: me on there, I mean, there's a good chance they
- 15:31Speaker 3: could figure this out in real life and be really good.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So no, I don't. I don't laugh at it at all,
- 15:37Speaker 3: but you.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Know, it means Kyle he gets pissed when he's average
- 15:42Speaker 2: on the Irate.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Yeah, He's like, yeah, this, you should race racing as well.
- 15:49Speaker 4: You race everything else, you might as well become the
- 15:51Speaker 4: best at that as well.
- 15:53Speaker 3: I mean back before I had well, back before I
- 15:56Speaker 3: met my now wife and had kids, I was one
- 15:58Speaker 3: of those guys on IRATE and I was really good
- 16:02Speaker 3: at it. But that was now twelve years ago. So yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 3: like I said, I don't have the time to do
- 16:08Speaker 3: much of anything outside of the real racing that I'm doing,
- 16:10Speaker 3: so I'm not going to spend any more time. Yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 3: I have to on a simulator.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Will did bring up that William Byron was on this
- 16:17Speaker 4: show on Race with a Friend of Racing with the Boys,
- 16:19Speaker 4: Friend of the show, Friend of the show. You watch
- 16:21Speaker 4: a couple of things on him, like everyone not everyone,
- 16:23Speaker 4: but like people kind of give the oh you're having
- 16:26Speaker 4: you have William on okay, he's a little more quiet,
- 16:28Speaker 4: a little more reserve, keeps to himself. Just speaking for myself,
- 16:32Speaker 4: he came on here and I was like wildly surprised
- 16:34Speaker 4: versus the expectation I was given and then what he
- 16:36Speaker 4: delivered for me on the bus. What was it like
- 16:39Speaker 4: for you in your relationship? When he comes up, he's
- 16:41Speaker 4: done the IRA racing thing, He's obviously gotten a reputation,
- 16:44Speaker 4: be attle, more reserved, likes his legos, kind of keeps
- 16:46Speaker 4: to himself a little bit. And then when when did
- 16:48Speaker 4: you break through that that little defense mechanism of his
- 16:51Speaker 4: and become good friends or maybe hey, listen, maybe you're not.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I don't know, no, no, I love William. He's awesome
- 16:59Speaker 3: and I I was not his teammate when he first
- 17:02Speaker 3: came into the sport, but so I didn't know him
- 17:04Speaker 3: as well back then. But he's still the same William
- 17:07Speaker 3: like quiet and a little bit socially awkward sometimes which
- 17:12Speaker 3: is hilarious and I love it. But he's he's just
- 17:15Speaker 3: a he's a really really just great person. Just always smiling.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I feel like, always happy and uh, Yeah, he's just
- 17:23Speaker 3: he's just fun to be around. He's a good, quirky
- 17:27Speaker 3: kind of guy.
- 17:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:28Speaker 3: I've been out with him a couple of times, and uh, yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 3: he's just fun. He's we're we're all my teammates, they're
- 17:34Speaker 3: all they're all cool in their own way. But William
- 17:37Speaker 3: is he's the youngest too, so it's it's fun to
- 17:40Speaker 3: like hear what he's got going on. He's single, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 3: so you always like to catch up on what he's
- 17:46Speaker 3: got going on down there in Charlotte. So yeah, yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 3: I know he's awesome.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I saw I saw my boy will flip the page,
- 17:53Speaker 4: so I know he's gonna change subjects and just say
- 17:55Speaker 4: I have one more thing. I want to dip my
- 17:56Speaker 4: toe back into this racing all the time, eleven times
- 18:00Speaker 4: in fourteen days. When it comes to like the NFL,
- 18:03Speaker 4: when you sign a contract, you're like, hey, you're here
- 18:05Speaker 4: to play football. So if you want to like do
- 18:08Speaker 4: anything extra, whether it's like snowboarding, skateboarding, any any type
- 18:12Speaker 4: of other sport or any physical activity, if you get hurt,
- 18:15Speaker 4: your contract could be void. In the NASCAR world, when
- 18:18Speaker 4: you're going out and you're racing, these dirt tracks, and
- 18:20Speaker 4: you're like, these things are you know, nine hundred and
- 18:22Speaker 4: fifty horse power, They're only fourteen hundred pounds. They kind
- 18:24Speaker 4: of whip their a little squirrely. Did you ever get
- 18:26Speaker 4: any pushback from Hendrick's Motorsports or NASCAR as its entire
- 18:31Speaker 4: umbrella company, being like, hey, maybe tone it back just
- 18:33Speaker 4: a little bit because we need you to be ready
- 18:35Speaker 4: for the Cup Series weekend and weekend.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I know you love races. Yeah, let's calm back.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Yeah, well so yeah, backing up to like the early
- 18:42Speaker 3: part of my career, Yeah, I was not allowed to
- 18:45Speaker 3: run the dirt stuff, but then like each year kind
- 18:48Speaker 3: of went by and I would get a little bit more,
- 18:50Speaker 3: a little bit more, and like I said back then,
- 18:52Speaker 3: the schedules are a little bit tougher to even do
- 18:54Speaker 3: as much as I do now. But yeah, when I
- 18:57Speaker 3: joined hendrick again, that was during COVID, so there was
- 19:01Speaker 3: no practice, and I think they were accepting of me
- 19:06Speaker 3: racing for all those reasons that I mentioned earlier, because
- 19:08Speaker 3: I feel like it makes me better. And when I
- 19:11Speaker 3: came to Hendrick in twenty twenty one, we had a
- 19:13Speaker 3: phenomenal year, won ten races, the championship, and so I
- 19:18Speaker 3: think that really showed them that it's not a distraction.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I think that was the main concern for my car
- 19:24Speaker 3: owner before, and then even you know Hendrick with their
- 19:28Speaker 3: drivers who wanted to race dirt back in the day,
- 19:32Speaker 3: that it would be a distraction more than it would help.
- 19:35Speaker 3: But the good season I had in twenty twenty one,
- 19:37Speaker 3: I think showed them that, yeah, it took me, it
- 19:40Speaker 3: helps everything. So, yeah, there's the danger part of it
- 19:43Speaker 3: and the risks side of it, and for sure, I
- 19:45Speaker 3: mean sprint cars, there's guys getting injured every week and
- 19:49Speaker 3: you hope that you're not one of them that does.
- 19:51Speaker 3: But yeah, I think again, I think Hendrick Motorsports is
- 19:56Speaker 3: accepting of the fact that it is who I am.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I love doing it and it makes me better, and
- 20:02Speaker 3: they're willing to take the risk along with me.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Can I tell you something that was a phenomenal question?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Thank you?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, because I love learning that it there is
- 20:09Speaker 2: always even it's like, even this is a stupid example,
- 20:12Speaker 2: but when we were doing the pod, while we were playing,
- 20:14Speaker 2: it's like the level of distraction you feel like you
- 20:16Speaker 2: would cause the team and then once you kind of
- 20:18Speaker 2: break through that bubble.
- 20:20Speaker 1: That's just that's awesome to learn about. That was a
- 20:22Speaker 1: great question. That means a lot. I appreciate that.
- 20:25Speaker 2: On the will Going back to the William Byer and
- 20:27Speaker 2: you mentioned the single, You mentioned him being single, kind
- 20:30Speaker 2: of getting you know, trying to get a feel. Do
- 20:31Speaker 2: you ever give him some game to finding like a
- 20:34Speaker 2: wife that's in the racing world, because you have one
- 20:37Speaker 2: like Caitlyn, She shotguns, beers, Your kids they drive as well,
- 20:41Speaker 2: so you kind of have like as good of a
- 20:43Speaker 2: setup as you possibly can to chase your ambition, ambition
- 20:47Speaker 2: and racing because everybody on the family kind of knows
- 20:50Speaker 2: what it is when it comes to racing.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I wouldn't say that I have any game, so
- 20:55Speaker 3: I'm not gonna I'm definitely not able to help him
- 20:59Speaker 3: out that side of things. But uh no, I think
- 21:03Speaker 3: William is a very picky person. That's who That's what
- 21:06Speaker 3: I've learned about him as being his teammate. He's very
- 21:08Speaker 3: he knows what he wants and uh so, yeah, I
- 21:11Speaker 3: think his window of finding the right the perfect girl
- 21:14Speaker 3: for him, uh is smaller than a normal single dude
- 21:19Speaker 3: living in the city. So but yeah, that's what makes
- 21:22Speaker 3: it fun. I think, you know, on the plane ride
- 21:24Speaker 3: home from the races to quism on how on how
- 21:28Speaker 3: it's going. But he's also I think it's tough for
- 21:31Speaker 3: him because he is so like locked in on racing
- 21:34Speaker 3: and focused and does a great job with you know,
- 21:38Speaker 3: the simulator stuff and and just studying that. I don't
- 21:42Speaker 3: know if he I don't know if he can balance
- 21:45Speaker 3: all of it out of finding a girl and perform
- 21:48Speaker 3: at the top level like he does.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Dude.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yeah, but if there's any man out there that has
- 21:53Speaker 4: the ability to get him a girl, a wife, whatever,
- 21:58Speaker 4: it's you, because you the guy, your your wife, she's
- 22:01Speaker 4: about it. Your kids are all racing. You got a
- 22:03Speaker 4: brother who's doing dirt tracks like you are so like
- 22:06Speaker 4: will have said so many times, like so integrated. Your
- 22:09Speaker 4: wife's got to have a friend out there that loves
- 22:10Speaker 4: the game as much as she does. And she's like, hey,
- 22:12Speaker 4: this is William Bid.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And you know too, like when you're a young Thundercat
- 22:15Speaker 2: and you're out there, you're you're on the prow, you're doing.
- 22:17Speaker 1: All these things.
- 22:18Speaker 2: It's not like I'm almost assuming he probably didn't know
- 22:21Speaker 2: he was going to have the situation that he does
- 22:24Speaker 2: have until like you're in it, your years in it,
- 22:26Speaker 2: you have kids with them, and then you're kind of
- 22:28Speaker 2: sitting back you're like, thank god, my wife is like
- 22:31Speaker 2: she's in the racing mode. Like my thank god her
- 22:33Speaker 2: brother's a stud and sprint cars. Like you kind of
- 22:35Speaker 2: got the a great perfect storm where your kids race
- 22:40Speaker 2: now and you kind of don't realize until you're already
- 22:42Speaker 2: in it.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Like the only thing you bring up that I'm like, yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 4: But the Thundercat part is I don't think William Biron
- 22:48Speaker 4: like doesn't sound like he's really he's looking it sounds
- 22:50Speaker 4: like he's just this guy's a professional.
- 22:53Speaker 2: But yeah, true, But also just speaking like with for
- 22:56Speaker 2: Kyle obviously I'm speaking for him. Just kind of don't
- 22:58Speaker 2: know your friend set up. You can do that until
- 23:00Speaker 2: you're like in the you're in the professional world.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Guys got their way. You just see how everything kind.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Of unfolds when you start to get experience in marriage
- 23:07Speaker 2: and having kids and everything else where. You're like, oh,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I kind of have a family that think, God, we're
- 23:11Speaker 2: all ingrained and racing, because I feel bad if she's
- 23:14Speaker 2: rocking with the kids back home, my kids aren't in racing.
- 23:16Speaker 2: She wasn't as much of a racing fan. I'm doing
- 23:19Speaker 2: all this racing now I'm successful, so I kind of
- 23:21Speaker 2: feel a dad guilt to be back at home. It's
- 23:23Speaker 2: like everybody kind of just knows the job. Everybody kind
- 23:26Speaker 2: of knows what it is and they all love it, right.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean speaking for my situation, yeah, it's it
- 23:33Speaker 3: is perfect. Like, yeah, I'm so fortunate that my wife
- 23:37Speaker 3: grew up around racing and she gets to grind. She
- 23:42Speaker 3: knows it. I mean, her brother ran on the Word
- 23:44Speaker 3: Lolla Tour for gosh ten years. They race way more
- 23:47Speaker 3: than I do. They're ninety nights a year, so yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 3: she understands the grind. And then my kids, yeah, they're
- 23:54Speaker 3: they're into it. And yeah, just having I think a
- 23:59Speaker 3: partner that understands your your profession is great and then
- 24:06Speaker 3: not for yeah, but I was gonna say that, and
- 24:08Speaker 3: that's maybe not for everybody. I think. I feel like
- 24:11Speaker 3: William is the type that like he kind of seems
- 24:15Speaker 3: like he wants a girl that does, you know, knows
- 24:17Speaker 3: nothing about racing. So yeah, I think it's just kind
- 24:20Speaker 3: of whatever you're into. But thankfully for me, mine knows
- 24:23Speaker 3: everything about racing.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, uh uh quick break from the episode to
- 24:29Speaker 2: bring You Form Energy. Form Energy delivers best in class
- 24:32Speaker 2: tastes with natural flavors and zero sugar. Form Energy has
- 24:35Speaker 2: natural caffeine derived from green tea and comes in a
- 24:38Speaker 2: variety of flavors like Screaming Freedom, grape smashed, blue Blitz,

- 24:43Speaker 2: the work. So if you're a person who wakes up
- 24:45Speaker 2: in the morning, gets a workout and puts in a
- 24:47Speaker 2: full day of work, it still gives it there all
- 24:48Speaker 2: when they come home. You are a Form Energy guy.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Form Energy. We do the work back to this episode
- 24:55Speaker 2: with Kyle Larson Audrey, who's the better racer? Owen or Audrey?
- 25:01Speaker 3: What's inside? Right here?
- 25:04Speaker 4: Hey, stick with us here because I have two kids.
- 25:06Speaker 4: One of the way William has two kids, Like which
- 25:09Speaker 4: one is just dad's talking, just some dads talking, Which
- 25:12Speaker 4: one is the one? Which one's like, Hey, listen, they
- 25:16Speaker 4: all probably gonna be successful. But this motherfucker sorry, not
- 25:19Speaker 4: gona curs kids. This one right here, this one's probably
- 25:22Speaker 4: got it.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Uh. I would say, I would say my daughter.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Hey, that's gotta like kind of extra special.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I just think she's I don't know it's
- 25:35Speaker 3: hard to kind of compare them because they're different. But
- 25:37Speaker 3: oh and my son, he's the older one. He's good too,
- 25:40Speaker 3: but he's like, I don't know, he's this not mentally
- 25:43Speaker 3: as confident as she is. She she is very competitive
- 25:50Speaker 3: and she wants to do a good job and everything
- 25:52Speaker 3: that she does. She she races, she plays ice hockey,
- 25:56Speaker 3: and she takes everything super serious. So she'll sit down
- 26:01Speaker 3: on the couch and study film. And then you can, like,
- 26:05Speaker 3: because I think she's a girl too, you can actually
- 26:08Speaker 3: she can retain information a little bit better than so yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 3: you can like talk to her and and then try
- 26:16Speaker 3: to coach her and see her try to do it
- 26:18Speaker 3: on the racetrack. So yeah, I think she's I think
- 26:22Speaker 3: she's a step ahead of where he was at the
- 26:25Speaker 3: same age. But you know, some kids develop at different
- 26:28Speaker 3: different speed, No, no, Owen, Yeah, Oen definitely shows glimpses
- 26:33Speaker 3: of like, man, I think he could be really good.
- 26:36Speaker 3: So but yeah, for right now, I mean they're both
- 26:39Speaker 3: so young. It's it's all about having fun in the racing.
- 26:43Speaker 3: But yeah, you can, at least right now I can
- 26:45Speaker 3: tell Audrey is she's into it.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Uh.
- 26:50Speaker 3: So we have three kids, We have Owen is eleven
- 26:54Speaker 3: and a half. Audrey just turned eight, uh in May,
- 26:58Speaker 3: and then we have a three and a half year
- 26:59Speaker 3: old boy is absolutely wild. He's got a mullet. Oh yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 3: he's savage. Yeah, we permed his mullet. He's It matches
- 27:08Speaker 3: his personality perfectly. He's crazy. So I'm hoping to keep
- 27:13Speaker 3: him out of a race car for a while because
- 27:15Speaker 3: I think it would be expensive. He'll be crashing every week.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I'm with you on that.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Owen's got a bunch of time.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Eleven and a half, you got a bunch of ye
- 27:22Speaker 2: in the pressures as an older as the oldest, you
- 27:25Speaker 2: kind of carry you different. The second one, I feel like,
- 27:28Speaker 2: even with Scotty and Rue, Rue has a Scotty just
- 27:31Speaker 2: doesn't give a ship like she's just she's always ready
- 27:34Speaker 2: to go, you know what I mean.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Yeah, she's splitting attention. She's vying for positions, she's jocking
- 27:38Speaker 4: for position correct in the household as opposed to being
- 27:41Speaker 4: when you're the first born, all the attentions on, you're like, oh,
- 27:43Speaker 4: look how great this one has I made this one?
- 27:45Speaker 4: This is amazing. Yeah, second one's got a little more
- 27:47Speaker 4: to prove than that. God forbid. That third one sounds
- 27:49Speaker 4: like Coop's coming with some business. He's ready to go. Yeah,
- 27:53Speaker 4: and I'll tell you this too, dude, when you think
- 27:54Speaker 4: about Owen eleven years old, I quit baseball when I
- 27:57Speaker 4: was young because I was afraid of getting hit by
- 27:59Speaker 4: the ball. I quit hockey once checking was involved. I
- 28:01Speaker 4: quit football because I was afraid to get tackled. All right,
- 28:04Speaker 4: I hit fifteen years old. Now look at you, and
- 28:06Speaker 4: now look I'm I was a big physical boy when
- 28:08Speaker 4: it all, when it all got said done, So there's
- 28:11Speaker 4: there's time and opportunity for Owen.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I'm sure once you realize how your your size was
- 28:16Speaker 3: probably compared to others, you're like, Okay, I got this.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I think.
- 28:20Speaker 4: I think what you say about your son too, like
- 28:22Speaker 4: oh like he like the confidence. I didn't have a
- 28:24Speaker 4: whole lot of that. And then really, once puberty started,
- 28:27Speaker 4: once a distastrom starts running through your veins, like you
- 28:30Speaker 4: have like a not a confidence, more of an arrogance
- 28:32Speaker 4: about you, and it just kind of funneled into football
- 28:34Speaker 4: from there.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it right.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I feel like I always a shyer kid, because if
- 28:39Speaker 2: you're when you're the oldest, all the expectation is kind
- 28:42Speaker 2: of around the first one. It might not even be expectation,
- 28:45Speaker 2: but that's how the oldest one feels, whereas the second
- 28:47Speaker 2: one you're just you're ripping and rolling right behind like, hey,
- 28:49Speaker 2: I'm coming for you.
- 28:50Speaker 4: But yeah, exactly if you have somebody you you have
- 28:52Speaker 4: a pace car in front of you.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you in the middle one or the second one's mind,
- 28:56Speaker 2: the oldest has always been the favorite, so it's easy
- 28:58Speaker 2: to kind of just like gain some ground.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yeah, hey I'm on your toes.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Yeah you do good. Yeah, Kyle, you have brothers, sisters
- 29:04Speaker 4: or anything like that.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I have a sister, she's she's four years older than me.
- 29:08Speaker 3: She she never raised or anything, but she was you know,
- 29:11Speaker 3: she was a great supporter of mine because she would,
- 29:14Speaker 3: i mean, had to go to the racetrack with me
- 29:16Speaker 3: and you can't. But yeah, no, she was. She's she's
- 29:20Speaker 3: a lot like my daughter, sassy and aggressive and not
- 29:25Speaker 3: afraid to speak her mind when the other kids would
- 29:28Speaker 3: get into me when I was younger.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Do you know, yeah, you so.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Will was brought up your wife chugging beers after wins
- 29:35Speaker 4: every once in a while, like you and your wife.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Let me just give you hypothetical. You guys are in
- 29:39Speaker 4: a cornado right now. You guys go to a belly
- 29:41Speaker 4: up at a bar real quick, and so a wild
- 29:44Speaker 4: hair gets in both of you, and you guys are like,
- 29:45Speaker 4: let's see you can kind of out drink the other.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Which one of you is staying on the stool the
- 29:50Speaker 4: longest beer for beer?
- 29:53Speaker 3: Well, I would say, neither of us really drink anymore.
- 29:57Speaker 3: She definitely doesn't. She like, I'll have, you know, a
- 30:00Speaker 3: glass of wine or something here and there. But so, yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 3: she's kind of outgrown her shotgun and phase of her life.
- 30:07Speaker 3: She's she's about to be thirty five, so I think
- 30:09Speaker 3: the hangovers hit a little different these days. But oh
- 30:13Speaker 3: so yeah, no she Uh, I think only on special
- 30:16Speaker 3: occasions will she will she shotgun a beer? So like
- 30:19Speaker 3: the last one was the championship in Phoenix last November.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So and before that, god, I don't even know when
- 30:26Speaker 3: the last time she shotguns. So but the fans, I mean,
- 30:29Speaker 3: they still think it's like a daily thing, and uh,
- 30:34Speaker 3: every time, literally every weekend, all have fans come up
- 30:39Speaker 3: to me like, Hey, where's your wife? I want to
- 30:40Speaker 3: shotgun a beer with her.
- 30:43Speaker 1: She's doing it all day long.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah, she's just waiting with a with a cooler right
- 30:46Speaker 4: next to her and a sign like can you out
- 30:48Speaker 4: chug me?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, but nah she uh not that either of
- 30:54Speaker 3: us are great drinkers, but back when we did drink,
- 30:58Speaker 3: I guess I feel like I would be to handle
- 31:00Speaker 3: it better than her. We're both we're both small, so
- 31:02Speaker 3: like we can't handle it very well anyways, but I
- 31:06Speaker 3: would beat her.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I love that.
- 31:07Speaker 2: That reminds me of him telling that story about his
- 31:10Speaker 2: wife shotgun beers and fans coming up. It's like people
- 31:12Speaker 2: see you just delete beers or you've deleted beers in
- 31:15Speaker 2: the past, and fans will just come up like hey,
- 31:17Speaker 2: I want to go one on one, and You're like, buddy,
- 31:19Speaker 2: like I don't drink like you. I just do it
- 31:22Speaker 2: every now and then, right right, it just happens to
- 31:24Speaker 2: be caught on film because I'm.
- 31:26Speaker 4: With you and your wife in the sense that like
- 31:27Speaker 4: you wait in my twenties, buddy, like anybody who wanted
- 31:29Speaker 4: to catch hands chucking a beer, Like we're gonna go
- 31:31Speaker 4: toe to toe right now. Now, I'm thirty four, but
- 31:34Speaker 4: gonna be thirty five in July. And if I even
- 31:37Speaker 4: like I went out with the boys last weekend and
- 31:39Speaker 4: had a few drinks and I still feel like I'm
- 31:41Speaker 4: recovering almost almost two weeks later. It's like it's it
- 31:45Speaker 4: just crushes your body. It's horrendous.
- 31:48Speaker 3: I have I wear a whoop now now, So like
- 31:51Speaker 3: that was the big thing. I feel like that was
- 31:53Speaker 3: eye opening to me. Was like, man, I have one
- 31:56Speaker 3: drink in my recoveries. Yeah, yeah, yellow, two drinks, it's red.
- 32:02Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, I'm this is I'm done.
- 32:04Speaker 2: And it's for like it's a residual effect too. It
- 32:08Speaker 2: takes a It takes a couple of days to get
- 32:10Speaker 2: back the green.
- 32:10Speaker 4: It really does. Because my sleeping record eight hours of
- 32:13Speaker 4: sleep last night and my recovery was still in the yellow.
- 32:16Speaker 4: And I haven't had a green day since I went out,
- 32:19Speaker 4: not the last fight with the Friday before that, two
- 32:22Speaker 4: fridays ago. Wow, we're sitting on Thursday right now.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I love how we're talking in colors too.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I had a green day in a week.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I need a few green days.
- 32:30Speaker 3: You can tell her in our mid thirties, Yeah, a
- 32:33Speaker 3: lying Carl.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Let me let me ask you this, like you're you
- 32:36Speaker 4: got the whoop on, you're focused on your body? How
- 32:39Speaker 4: are you with astrology? What does a waxing crescent mean
- 32:42Speaker 4: to you?
- 32:42Speaker 3: Oh my god, I had I don't. I don't know
- 32:45Speaker 3: what that is at all. I heard those guys talking
- 32:48Speaker 3: about it, I don't know, a couple of months ago,
- 32:50Speaker 3: and I'm like, what is this lasting crescent? So I
- 32:52Speaker 3: asked chat GBT, like what are these guys talking about? Yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 3: so I don't know if it's a thing or not.
- 32:59Speaker 3: I don't. I guess I would need to pay attention
- 33:01Speaker 3: to it more to see if it was actually a thing.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I don't think it's a thing. Do you think it's
- 33:06Speaker 3: a thing?
- 33:07Speaker 1: Dude? Here's what I am like.
- 33:08Speaker 4: I'm a placebo guy. So if you give me something,
- 33:11Speaker 4: you're like, hey, by the way, this will make you
- 33:12Speaker 4: a bigger, stronger, faster if you just take this, but
- 33:14Speaker 4: it's a sugar pill, I'd be like, I'm gonna get bigger, stronger,
- 33:17Speaker 4: faster right now. I'm the easier. My brain will just
- 33:19Speaker 4: agree with whatever whoever tells me the information first that's
- 33:22Speaker 4: gonna now be in my opinion. So I to answer
- 33:25Speaker 4: your question, I one hundred percent think the waxing christ You.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Know, Kyle like it's he's looking up if it's true
- 33:31Speaker 2: or not. But to him, it doesn't matter that he's
- 33:33Speaker 2: old school. He's like, let's get in the nine to
- 33:35Speaker 2: fifty horse power. Yeah, and let's see how these are
- 33:38Speaker 2: gonna run this week.
- 33:38Speaker 4: Yeah, my foot's heavier than yours. We're gonna find.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Out what's going on.
- 33:42Speaker 2: You take your astrology bullshit and you can shove it
- 33:44Speaker 2: up your ass.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, he doesn't. He doesn't worry about size, dude.
- 33:48Speaker 4: He's like, virgo, that shit sounds lame, dude, We're not
- 33:50Speaker 4: doing that. So when it comes to race day, you
- 33:53Speaker 4: don't keep a right sock on, just the right sock.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Well, I am superstitious.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Let's go ahead, let's get in the stitions.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I I definitely I do put my right sock on first, always,
- 34:07Speaker 3: right glove on first, and then. Oh another thing that's
- 34:13Speaker 3: followed me my whole life in racing is ladybugs are
- 34:17Speaker 3: good luck. So so I ran a ladybug sticker on
- 34:21Speaker 3: my race car. My whole life. So from when I
- 34:24Speaker 3: started racing when I was seven till now, there's still
- 34:27Speaker 3: a ladybug on there and on all my dirt track merchandise.
- 34:30Speaker 3: We kind of hide a ladybug somewhere on this shirt.
- 34:33Speaker 3: So yeah, those those would be kind of my superstitions.
- 34:37Speaker 4: I feel like, would you say that a ladybug is
- 34:39Speaker 4: your spirit animal?
- 34:43Speaker 3: Sure? Why not?
- 34:44Speaker 2: Hell yeah, Kyle, ladybug Larsen. I like that.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I'm messed with that because the spirit. My kids are
- 34:52Speaker 4: all into that right now. They want to be wolves
- 34:54Speaker 4: or you know, the most intimidating, amazing figures. Hell yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 4: funny enough, your animal is a ladybug. I did a
- 35:01Speaker 4: tarot card one time. The first thing that popped up
- 35:03Speaker 4: was a ladybug. That's like good luck and all these things.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, so maybe Kyle's your driver.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Kyle might be my driver. I might have to hit it.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 35:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I'd put your money on SPG.
- 35:17Speaker 4: So now a couple of weeks spgg.
- 35:23Speaker 3: VEG Shamean Gisberg. He smokes us on these read courses.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Really.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Knowing that he's the guy. Is there ever any like
- 35:33Speaker 2: uh above board conversations like hey, some one of us
- 35:37Speaker 2: has got to kind of get him, kind of get
- 35:40Speaker 2: him aggressively, not like, you know, get him out of
- 35:42Speaker 2: the race, but somebody's got to kind of do something.
- 35:45Speaker 1: When we get in this race early.
- 35:47Speaker 3: I feel like we do need to come together and
- 35:49Speaker 3: talk about it because it's it's crazy. It's crazy how
- 35:51Speaker 3: much faster than that? So, yeah, he needs the wreck.
- 35:54Speaker 3: That's not our only chance.
- 35:58Speaker 1: You can get William Byron on it.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh hey, I'll buy you a ten thousand piece
- 36:03Speaker 4: of lego set if you just take this guy out.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 36:07Speaker 2: And speaking of your teammates too, we're actually supposed to
- 36:10Speaker 2: have on Chase Elliott today and we're fired up because
- 36:13Speaker 2: he's obviously a legend. But everybody we've came that we've
- 36:16Speaker 2: come across has been like, he's a hard one to crack.
- 36:19Speaker 2: He's a hard bubble to burst. He's hard to like
- 36:22Speaker 2: get into the conferenceation, Like, what tips and advice would
- 36:24Speaker 2: you have for us, knowing that you've been a teammate
- 36:27Speaker 2: with him for.
- 36:27Speaker 3: A while, I'm still trying to figure it out. So no,
- 36:30Speaker 3: I think you guys, you guys are fun, this is
- 36:33Speaker 3: a fun setting. I think you would crack him pretty easily.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I've been around him a few times when he's been
- 36:38Speaker 3: a great time, but I would say most of the
- 36:40Speaker 3: time he's like an old soul, kind of keeps to himself.
- 36:45Speaker 3: I don't really know what. He doesn't live in the
- 36:47Speaker 3: North Carolina like near the shop, so he he lives
- 36:50Speaker 3: in Georgia's those hometowns. Like, I have no clue what
- 36:53Speaker 3: he's into. Yeah, he doesn't open up a whole lot,
- 36:56Speaker 3: which is cool. I respect it. Yeah, I think you
- 36:59Speaker 3: guys could crack him.
- 37:00Speaker 1: What gets him laughing?
- 37:01Speaker 2: Like what gets him going to where you've seen him
- 37:02Speaker 2: laughing and you're like, if you can remember have the
- 37:05Speaker 2: awareness of what you guys were kind of talking about
- 37:07Speaker 2: at the time. You're like, Okay, he does have some personality.
- 37:10Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know. He doesn't laugh a
- 37:12Speaker 3: whole lot.
- 37:14Speaker 1: We got to work cut out tea man doesn't know.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys had Bubba on right, and have you
- 37:19Speaker 3: had Blanie on yet?
- 37:20Speaker 1: They came on together?
- 37:21Speaker 4: You had the one together. They were great, But we
- 37:23Speaker 4: Blanie is a second time friend of the show.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Yeah, second time. We had him a couple of times.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Last time we had him clean cut like you are
- 37:29Speaker 4: right now, and now he's rocking a deep thick. It's nice.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say they're like all best friends. Though,
- 37:35Speaker 3: so you know, they probably have great times together and
- 37:39Speaker 3: probably could help you give you some insight on on
- 37:42Speaker 3: how to crack indows, maybe reach back outs.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Kyle's trying to get in their group. Yes, he's trying
- 37:46Speaker 1: to get They got a good trio thing going. I
- 37:48Speaker 1: wonder if they have room for four.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Yeah, well you need to you need to learn a
- 37:52Speaker 4: wax and crush it before you get the invite. Uh,
- 37:54Speaker 4: just so you know for the upcoming race that will
- 37:56Speaker 4: this will come out next week. So this is all
- 37:58Speaker 4: just like fluff that doesn't to be in. But uh SVG,
- 38:02Speaker 4: he's minus one sixty in this race. You're plus twenty
- 38:06Speaker 4: seven hundred.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Oh wow, maybe undergo right?
- 38:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 38:10Speaker 4: Yeah, plus is bad minus his favorite.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Yeah he should be minus twenty seven hundred.
- 38:17Speaker 4: Oh really damn.
- 38:19Speaker 1: He's got a lot of respect on this.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean he's like every road He's won every
- 38:23Speaker 3: road quarter race I think in the last like two
- 38:25Speaker 3: years except for Coda. He finished second this year. So yeah, yeah,
- 38:29Speaker 3: and when I say win, he's not winning by a
- 38:31Speaker 3: small margin. He's win in by like fifteen seconds.
- 38:34Speaker 4: So you might have to put a bag on SPG.
- 38:36Speaker 3: How do you feel plus twenty seven hundred. I don't
- 38:38Speaker 3: feel like I'm not I know that.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I feel like you kind of I don't even know
- 38:41Speaker 2: if you should have said.
- 38:42Speaker 4: That that was well, yeah, you know what, Now that
- 38:43Speaker 4: you go back at it, it's like, yeah, maybe I
- 38:44Speaker 4: should have put. I just wanted him to know where
- 38:46Speaker 4: he was at.
- 38:46Speaker 1: He's gonna have like five Lady books stick like that.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Hey, how do you feel about Sonoma? It's kind of
- 38:54Speaker 2: as close as you get to a home crowd. Yeah, Like,
- 38:55Speaker 2: do you feel like you have a little bit of
- 38:58Speaker 2: a superpower going into Sonoma?
- 39:01Speaker 3: I like Sonoma. I would say it's probably my best
- 39:03Speaker 3: road course for sure. We won a couple of races there.
- 39:06Speaker 3: There was a stretch I think where I got the
- 39:08Speaker 3: pole there like five years in a row, so it's
- 39:11Speaker 3: it's definitely my best one in a couple of years
- 39:15Speaker 3: since we won there, I guess not really, I guess
- 39:17Speaker 3: we won in twenty twenty four maybe there, But yeah,
- 39:21Speaker 3: I like it, And yeah it's my home race, so
- 39:24Speaker 3: get some friends and family there. But more more than that,
- 39:27Speaker 3: I mean, it's just a Napa Valley is just awesome.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Yeah, gorgeous.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Yeah, uh huh. So I love going there and spending
- 39:35Speaker 3: it as vacation. Really, these two weeks is something I've
- 39:37Speaker 3: been looking forward to for a while. Home state. You know,
- 39:40Speaker 3: beautiful weather, great food, great wine. So yeah, I'm pumped
- 39:46Speaker 3: for it. And then you get to throw in some
- 39:47Speaker 3: racing on the weekend is always good.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:49Speaker 2: It sounds like you being really good at this road course.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Like what makes this one difficult or what like separates
- 39:56Speaker 2: a great road course from just like a good one.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Yeah. I think for me Sonoma, I do better there
- 40:05Speaker 3: because it's less corners. I feel like the more corners
- 40:08Speaker 3: get you have to screw it up. So yeah, Sonoma's
- 40:13Speaker 3: only eleven turns. Uh. And then like Coda, I would
- 40:17Speaker 3: say is one of my worst ones, and it's like
- 40:20Speaker 3: like twenty something corners, but uh, I'm not sure. Sonoma's
- 40:24Speaker 3: pretty Uh, Sonoma's pretty flowy and and just got more grip.
- 40:30Speaker 3: So I like that part of it. And then probably
- 40:32Speaker 3: being at home, you know, gets you your mind in
- 40:35Speaker 3: a better spot.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Give the juices a little bit.
- 40:37Speaker 4: We've asked every single once I've learned about this individual.
- 40:40Speaker 4: I've took it upon myself to ask about this guy
- 40:42Speaker 4: every single racing with the boys we do. And you're
- 40:45Speaker 4: an old school cat, Like there's a piece of you
- 40:47Speaker 4: that right there, sits with the old dogs, and it's like, yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 4: we like the old way things used to be. Just
- 40:51Speaker 4: a piece of you might might be in there. Every
- 40:53Speaker 4: time I brought up the name Carson Hosovar to the
- 40:56Speaker 4: some of these racers, it's the exact reaction you just
- 40:59Speaker 4: add and it it's like, yeah, you know this guy
- 41:01Speaker 4: flies by, see if his pantsy makes his own decisions whatever.
- 41:04Speaker 4: There's like a because I know there's like an unspoken
- 41:06Speaker 4: rule that takes place in all sports, not just Nascar,
- 41:09Speaker 4: not just football, of like how to act with the
- 41:12Speaker 4: older guys, the young guys and all the respect game.
- 41:15Speaker 4: What is your interactions with uh with Carson host Froben
- 41:19Speaker 4: liking if your son or daughter who's right right there there, they're.
- 41:21Speaker 5: More than crazy crazy kid Cooper, Yeah kid, he's doing the.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Host of are he honestly like? I respect his talent.
- 41:42Speaker 3: I think he's extremely extremely good and fast. I think
- 41:47Speaker 3: he is Uh. I like his aggressive this even but
- 41:51Speaker 3: I would say it goes overboard a lot of the time.
- 41:54Speaker 3: And then for me, I don't know, he's just like
- 41:56Speaker 3: he's young, but he's just kind of like he's he's
- 41:59Speaker 3: doing more immature than what his age is. Uh. I
- 42:04Speaker 3: have his little twitch stream thing pop up on my
- 42:07Speaker 3: Instagram feed every now and then. I'm like, dude, this
- 42:09Speaker 3: guy is like an eight year old. So it's uh,
- 42:13Speaker 3: that's where I lose a little bit of respect because
- 42:15Speaker 3: I'm like, man, this guy's supposed to be, like, could
- 42:18Speaker 3: be the future of our sport. Yeah, acting like he's
- 42:20Speaker 3: eight years old. But but no, I mean he's, uh,
- 42:24Speaker 3: he's phenomenal. He's I mean, he outruns his teammates by
- 42:27Speaker 3: a lot every week, so he's really good. And uh,
- 42:30Speaker 3: he's gonna be around for a long time and gonna
- 42:32Speaker 3: win a lot of races. I think once he definitely
- 42:34Speaker 3: harnesses himself some and kind of can dial back that
- 42:40Speaker 3: aggression a little bit and manage a race better. I
- 42:42Speaker 3: think he can. He can win multiple races of a year,
- 42:44Speaker 3: and he's close to that. He's definitely gotten better over
- 42:47Speaker 3: the last couple of years. So but yeah, I don't
- 42:50Speaker 3: know him that well. So maybe if I knew him
- 42:51Speaker 3: a little bit better, I'd have more respect.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Perfect answer, Perfect answer, Kyle.
- 42:55Speaker 2: We know you got to get rolling. We know you're
- 42:57Speaker 2: on vacation. Just a couple of sentences reflecting on being
- 43:01Speaker 2: the NASCAR cover athlete this year for the twenty twenty
- 43:04Speaker 2: six game.
- 43:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, that's uh, that's cool. I don't know
- 43:07Speaker 3: if it's been announced or a thing yet.
- 43:09Speaker 2: It is the week that this comes out, so you'll
- 43:12Speaker 2: be doing the burnout and stuff like that.
- 43:14Speaker 3: Yep. Cool. No, I'm I'm really uh, I don't know.
- 43:17Speaker 3: It's an honor. I think anytime you could be the
- 43:19Speaker 3: cover of a video game, I think that's really cool.
- 43:21Speaker 3: So I'm surprised it's taking this long with success that
- 43:26Speaker 3: we've had, but no, it's uh, it's cool when they
- 43:29Speaker 3: when they reached out and let me know that they
- 43:32Speaker 3: wanted me to be on the cover. It was definitely
- 43:34Speaker 3: something I was proud of.
- 43:35Speaker 2: So are you worried about a curse? Have you heard
- 43:38Speaker 2: of the Madden curse? Like anything you get on the
- 43:40Speaker 2: cover of a game, it's kind of I don't want
- 43:42Speaker 2: to put that.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Out there, but well, I need to go back then
- 43:46Speaker 3: and see who's been on the cover and see how
- 43:48Speaker 3: the seasons. Then maybe then maybe yeah, I'll get nervous, which, hey,
- 43:52Speaker 3: I've been winless for a year, so maybe this will uh,
- 43:56Speaker 3: maybe this will be the thing to to to change
- 43:58Speaker 3: it and be the opposite of a herse for us year.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Byron was on last year's Yeah all right, you put
- 44:10Speaker 4: a couple of ladybugs on there, you put this, you
- 44:12Speaker 4: put the saw, the right sock on first, extra fast,
- 44:15Speaker 4: and the glove. You should be all right. Yeah, I
- 44:17Speaker 4: know you had a book.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Extra ladybugs might be the thing.
- 44:20Speaker 4: That's the book. Maybe a ladybug tattoo. Do you have
- 44:22Speaker 4: any tattoos?
- 44:24Speaker 3: No tattoos, but we might have.
- 44:26Speaker 4: To get some stage all that. Last question, I have
- 44:31Speaker 4: very hard hitting question we've talked about with everybody else
- 44:34Speaker 4: on this show. What's your opinion on Talladay to Night's
- 44:36Speaker 4: friend or foe of the show of Nascar.
- 44:39Speaker 3: I mean, I'm I'm like middle of the road on it.
- 44:42Speaker 3: I love the movie. It's hilarious, but I will say
- 44:47Speaker 3: I don't really think it's done as much positive to
- 44:50Speaker 3: our sport as it's done negative. I feel like since
- 44:54Speaker 3: that movie, the general public thinks our sport is a
- 44:57Speaker 3: joke and they don't take it as serious.
- 45:00Speaker 4: So okay, so yeah, kind of in my opinion, but
- 45:06Speaker 4: objectively funny movie, objectively funny hurts the sport that you're in.
- 45:11Speaker 3: That's what I'm here, I think, I think. So, Okay,
- 45:14Speaker 3: all right, Mitch at one time it.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Mitch, do you have them before we let him go?
- 45:18Speaker 2: Mitch is an avid NASCAR guy.
- 45:19Speaker 6: Yeah, Kyle, big fan. One question I have for you.
- 45:22Speaker 6: We just had Jesse Love on this past week and
- 45:25Speaker 6: he said the biggest starstruck moment he had was when
- 45:28Speaker 6: he got to race against you. What is that feeling
- 45:31Speaker 6: like when these younger guys are coming up through the
- 45:34Speaker 6: sport and they're looking up to you and they're like,
- 45:36Speaker 6: holy shit, I'm racing against Kyle Larson? Like, what is
- 45:39Speaker 6: that feeling like for you?
- 45:41Speaker 3: Well, it makes me feel old for starters, because because
- 45:45Speaker 3: I that's it's it's definitely cool to hear about that,
- 45:48Speaker 3: but it's because it's not something that I've ever really
- 45:50Speaker 3: thought about. You know, I don't really think that. I
- 45:53Speaker 3: don't know, I don't think of myself any differently than
- 45:55Speaker 3: I did ten years ago. So yeah, I mean, I
- 45:59Speaker 3: think it just showed like how young these guys are
- 46:01Speaker 3: now coming up and they've probably been watching me their
- 46:04Speaker 3: whole life, which is crazy. So because like I said,
- 46:07Speaker 3: I'm still only thirty four. But no, it's It's neat
- 46:11Speaker 3: because I remember those kind of moments myself. My first
- 46:15Speaker 3: Cup start, I remember and I'll never forget, you know,
- 46:17Speaker 3: being on the dry intro stage and like Mark Martin
- 46:20Speaker 3: came over to me and talked to me, and I
- 46:22Speaker 3: look over there and it's Jeff Gordon. There's Dale Earnhard Junior,
- 46:25Speaker 3: and Jimmy Johnson and Tony Stewart. Like I had never
- 46:28Speaker 3: raced with these guys before. So yeah, it was definitely
- 46:31Speaker 3: that was like my only starstruck moment that I feel
- 46:35Speaker 3: like I've had. But yeah, it's neat to hear about that.
- 46:39Speaker 3: You know, here a guy like Jesse Love, who's you know,
- 46:43Speaker 3: at the top of his series say that about me.
- 46:46Speaker 3: So pretty cool.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I think it's sick. Man.
- 46:48Speaker 2: You mentioned all those drivers that inspired you that you
- 46:52Speaker 2: saw as like, oh, these are the guys that can't
- 46:54Speaker 2: believe I'm getting a race with them. Then you got
- 46:55Speaker 2: Jesse Love, the next generation, who grew up around a
- 46:58Speaker 2: similar area you and California, coming over and watching you
- 47:02Speaker 2: his entire life, and then being on the track and
- 47:04Speaker 2: having that moment of like holy shit, like there he is.
- 47:07Speaker 2: That's the cat that was from an area that I'm from.
- 47:09Speaker 2: And now I'm getting the race against him. That's that's badass, man.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's definitely neat. It's pretty cool, pretty I
- 47:16Speaker 3: think that's what's cool about racing is you can you
- 47:19Speaker 3: can race through decades. You know, you can see a
- 47:22Speaker 3: lot of different generations of drivers, which is neat.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's awesome, Kyle.
- 47:26Speaker 4: We appreciate you coming on, man, have a great time
- 47:29Speaker 4: out West, get after it. I will be placing a
- 47:32Speaker 4: bet on you on the FanDuel Sportsbook plus twenty seven hundred.
- 47:35Speaker 1: You can't. You can't argue against that. Yeah, he'll be
- 47:38Speaker 1: he'll he'll beat odds much better on this.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Shout to you and your your wonderful family. It sounds
- 47:42Speaker 4: like you just can hit it perfectly, straight ahead. You hit,
- 47:45Speaker 4: You've knocked it out of the park. Happy for your brother.
