- 1:41Speaker 4: for you? It might be a little bit better today
- 1:45Speaker 4: than what it was yesterday. I have to tell you
- 1:47Speaker 4: it probably couldn't be much worse if you weren't around
- 1:53Speaker 4: Charleston yesterday and you didn't see all the tie up
- 1:55Speaker 4: that happened. And I'm sure if you're on social media
- 1:57Speaker 4: you saw it or on your local TV news or whatever.
- 2:00Speaker 4: That replacement of the Carter Bridge not the replacement of
- 2:03Speaker 4: the bridge, although the way the traffic look yesterday, they
- 2:06Speaker 4: may have been replacing the actual bridge at a giant
- 2:09Speaker 4: crater the small size of a small to medium sized
- 2:13Speaker 4: car that develops. So work continues on that. They're telling
- 2:17Speaker 4: us that by midday today it might might be open
- 2:22Speaker 4: back up again. They were able to open up one
- 2:25Speaker 4: other lane, so of the three, there's now two open,
- 2:28Speaker 4: but it's still quite a bit. When I came into
- 2:30Speaker 4: the office around seven thirty or so this morning. Now
- 2:32Speaker 4: this is westbound, okay, not eastbound, as I'm coming in eastbound.
- 2:36Speaker 4: I just happened to as I was getting off on
- 2:38Speaker 4: Virginia Street, they just happened to look over there, and
- 2:40Speaker 4: I saw the traffic backed up for as far as
- 2:43Speaker 4: the eye could see. And I didn't even get on
- 2:47Speaker 4: the Interstate going home yesterday. I try, you know, I
- 2:50Speaker 4: made it home at some point, but without getting on
- 2:52Speaker 4: the Interstate because as you may guess, all the back
- 2:55Speaker 4: roads were backed up too. But we'll get through it,
- 2:57Speaker 4: hopefully midday to day and maybe even while we're on
- 2:59Speaker 4: the air, And you can let me know about it
- 3:02Speaker 4: if it happens, if they got it taken care, if
- 3:04Speaker 4: you can text me. Courtesy of Tony the Taylor three

- 3:09Speaker 4: coming up on the show today, Merrily mccauliffe, our good
- 3:11Speaker 4: friend from WOWKTV thirteen's gonna stop by. She's actually been
- 3:16Speaker 4: attamped to help out with the WVU alumni chapter done
- 3:20Speaker 4: in Boone County their annual pigross. This thing is huge
- 3:23Speaker 4: and so Merrily is going to join us to talk
- 3:24Speaker 4: about that. A little bit later on, We've got big
- 3:26Speaker 4: happenings on the city of Nitro. They're going to do
- 3:28Speaker 4: a cruise in tonight. Joe Stevens. It's actually Marty Gracasino
- 3:32Speaker 4: and Resort. Joe Stevens will join us from Nitro to
- 3:35Speaker 4: talk about that. And also the Dirty Birds are back
- 3:38Speaker 4: at home tonight. They were on the road this week,
- 3:40Speaker 4: they're back at home tonight. And a lot of different
- 3:41Speaker 4: activities going on at Pepperoni Role Festival. Joe Garan will
- 3:45Speaker 4: join us to talk about that, BLUs some other things
- 3:47Speaker 4: that are going on, so we'll have some other folks
- 3:48Speaker 4: in here to talk about that. So we had a
- 3:49Speaker 4: lot of stuff to get to this morning, but there's

- 4:04Speaker 4: in Angie Gillenwater from the Cadal Charleston Humane Association with
- 4:07Speaker 4: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Angie,
- 4:10Speaker 4: Good morning and welcome to the show.
- 4:13Speaker 6: Good morning, it's good to be back.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you all right. So, as always our
- 4:18Speaker 4: pets pictures posted on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and
- 4:21Speaker 4: at Dave seventy one X. Tell us the story of
- 4:25Speaker 4: Crocodile Rock. And I always need to know the story
- 4:29Speaker 4: behind the name. And I was joking with producer Ryan,
- 4:31Speaker 4: I said, sometimes, between you two, I have to ask
- 4:33Speaker 4: you what these names mean. You know, because you like
- 4:36Speaker 4: to name you and the folks like to name it.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Some references that I don't get because I'm old. I
- 4:40Speaker 4: get Crocodile Rock, all right. It was a number one
- 4:42Speaker 4: song Elton John in nineteen seventy three on the Billboard
- 4:46Speaker 4: Charge number one in nineteen seventy three. So I know
- 4:49Speaker 4: what Crocodile Rock means. Tell us the story of Crocodile
- 4:52Speaker 4: Rock and why did you choose the name it? After
- 4:54Speaker 4: an Elton John song?
- 4:56Speaker 6: So Crocodile Rock actually came in as astray with his
- 5:00Speaker 6: three siblings, who are also named after Elton John songs.
- 5:03Speaker 6: We had Mona, Lisa, Rocketman, and Oh Tiny Dancer was
- 5:08Speaker 6: the other one. And sitting there trying to think of
- 5:11Speaker 6: a unique name, I was the one that named them.
- 5:14Speaker 6: I was just having a day where I was really
- 5:17Speaker 6: enjoying Elton John and you know hits him that era,
- 5:22Speaker 6: so that's I mean Elton John fan anyway. So I just,
- 5:26Speaker 6: rather than calling them Elton John or whatever, wanted it
- 5:29Speaker 6: to be kind of unique and name them after song.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Well, there is one Elton John song that you could
- 5:36Speaker 4: have named. And I'm gonna because I like my job,
- 5:37Speaker 4: I don't want to get fired. I'm not going to
- 5:39Speaker 4: mention the exact title. But you know, Elton John had
- 5:40Speaker 4: a big hit record with a song called the Blank
- 5:42Speaker 4: Is Back and it starts with a B and I'll
- 5:45Speaker 4: leave it at that. So better that you name it
- 5:47Speaker 4: after you know, the song Crocodile Rock than the Blank
- 5:50Speaker 4: Is Back?
- 5:52Speaker 7: Right?
- 5:52Speaker 6: Yeah, As I was scrolling through the Elton John track list,
- 5:55Speaker 6: I said, okay, well we will be using them.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I'll be using that one, all right, So tell us
- 5:59Speaker 4: about Crocodile Rock.
- 6:02Speaker 6: Crocodile Rock is one of the perfect ages. He's eight
- 6:05Speaker 6: months old, so he's out of your velociraptor puppy h
- 6:09Speaker 6: and I'm using air quotes here where he wants to
- 6:12Speaker 6: chew everything and you know, run around with lots of energy.
- 6:16Speaker 6: But he's still younger, so he's got, you know, some spunk.
- 6:20Speaker 6: He's the perfect age for taking out into public, going
- 6:23Speaker 6: on hikes, things like that. He's very sweet, hasn't met
- 6:27Speaker 6: a stranger yet. He loves other dogs, and I don't
- 6:31Speaker 6: see him having any issues with cats. He's, like I said,
- 6:34Speaker 6: still a puppy, and they're fairly easy to introduce to
- 6:37Speaker 6: your cats at home.
- 6:39Speaker 4: And you said he's eight months old, he's male, vaccinated,
- 6:42Speaker 4: not new yet but will be. Seems to be great
- 6:45Speaker 4: with other dogs, matter of fact, fantastic with other dogs,
- 6:48Speaker 4: loves to be around kids. Any idea of what kind
- 6:50Speaker 4: of dog you may be, so.
- 6:52Speaker 6: That is a tough one. His siblings kind of resembled
- 6:55Speaker 6: boxers in a way. They had more of like a
- 6:57Speaker 6: smushy face with like those little triangles. Eighty years so
- 7:01Speaker 6: I would say maybe like a box three mix. He
- 7:05Speaker 6: doesn't really have that look about him like his siblings did.
- 7:08Speaker 4: And as you mentioned, he has been fostered in the past,
- 7:11Speaker 4: and his previous foster parent said he was just an
- 7:13Speaker 4: awesome dog all around.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Correct. Yeah, they said that he was a great dog.
- 7:18Speaker 6: They had no complaints. The only reason they ended up
- 7:20Speaker 6: bringing him back is because they were going out of
- 7:22Speaker 6: town for the Fourth of July. So he's a great
- 7:26Speaker 6: dog and they said that they would take him back
- 7:28Speaker 6: in a heartbeat.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Dog n Agie Gillenwater from the Nannala Charleston Newmain Association
- 7:32Speaker 4: with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week

- 7:51Speaker 4: You got an event coming up called Adoptions after Dark?
- 7:54Speaker 4: What is that all about?
- 7:56Speaker 6: So that is my attempt to get more people into
- 8:00Speaker 6: our building that maybe normally wouldn't during our business hours
- 8:04Speaker 6: because I know a lot of people work, so adoptions
- 8:08Speaker 6: after dark. Next Friday, which is July eighteenth, we're going
- 8:11Speaker 6: to be open until ten pm. It's the last day,
- 8:16Speaker 6: or one of the last days of our adoption special
- 8:18Speaker 6: we have going on right now. So I'm hoping to
- 8:21Speaker 6: see lots of people that you know, couldn't make it
- 8:23Speaker 6: because they, you know, had work that day. I'm hoping
- 8:26Speaker 6: to see lots of teenagers board because it's Friday night
- 8:29Speaker 6: and there was nothing else to do. I just I'm
- 8:32Speaker 6: hoping to see a lot of people that we don't
- 8:33Speaker 6: normally see during our open business hours.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Well what was the best of luck that We'll talk
- 8:37Speaker 4: about it of course next week. And you're doing some
- 8:40Speaker 4: hiring up there.
- 8:42Speaker 6: Yes we are. We have open interviews going on next
- 8:44Speaker 6: week and check out our Facebook page to get all
- 8:46Speaker 6: the details for it. And we are hiring for pretty
- 8:50Speaker 6: much anywhere in our building, adoptions, admissions, animal care, even
- 8:55Speaker 6: our medical team is meeting some extra hands right now,
- 8:58Speaker 6: so we are high hiring. And be sure to check
- 9:01Speaker 6: out those open interviews.
- 9:02Speaker 4: And we do get people sometimes when we talk about
- 9:04Speaker 4: any place at hiring, they'll say, what are the what's
- 9:06Speaker 4: the age minimum on this? So what's the youngest you
- 9:10Speaker 4: could hire because it could be a good job for
- 9:12Speaker 4: maybe a high school kid or somebody younger. What's the
- 9:15Speaker 4: what ages are you looking at? What's the youngest?
- 9:18Speaker 6: So the youngest that we have hired is the age
- 9:21Speaker 6: of seventeen years old, and that was turning close to eighteen.
- 9:26Speaker 6: So if you're between the seventeen and eighteen range, we
- 9:29Speaker 6: can hire you.
- 9:30Speaker 4: All right. You got this Bissle the Bisle Pet Foundation,
- 9:33Speaker 4: which I know does fantastic work. Hats off to the
- 9:36Speaker 4: folks at the Bissle they get their Empty the Shelter
- 9:38Speaker 4: event that's continuing as well.
- 9:41Speaker 6: Yes, the last day for the Empty the Shelters adoption
- 9:44Speaker 6: special is July nineteenth, and we are including all the
- 9:49Speaker 6: animals in the building. Cats and kittens are fifty dollars
- 9:52Speaker 6: to adopt, and dogs and select puppies are twenty five
- 9:55Speaker 6: dollars to adopt.
- 9:56Speaker 4: And Tuxas and tails is coming up.
- 10:00Speaker 6: It would be Kegs for Caano.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I got my events mixed up.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I'm sorry. You're absolutely right. Kegs for cake. How could I,
- 10:08Speaker 4: of all people forget the word keg? But anyway, go ahead, yep.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Kegs for Tana's just slowly creeping up on us. In August,
- 10:16Speaker 6: uh is a fundraiser for us where all we require
- 10:20Speaker 6: of you is to purchase the ticket, come hang out
- 10:22Speaker 6: and drink beer and pet dogs.
- 10:24Speaker 4: All right, it sounds like it sounds like a dang
- 10:26Speaker 4: good time to me right there, and again we'll be
- 10:28Speaker 4: giving you more information on kegs for canines. We had
- 10:30Speaker 4: a text here for you. It said, have any of
- 10:32Speaker 4: the piglets that fell out of the truck on mccorkol
- 10:36Speaker 4: yesterday been brought to the shelter? If so, how are
- 10:38Speaker 4: they doing? Last count was four.
- 10:41Speaker 6: So to not yet none of them have been brought
- 10:44Speaker 6: to the shelter yet. And what's funny is, as I
- 10:46Speaker 6: was sitting in traffic yesterday, I saw that truck. But
- 10:51Speaker 6: to my knowledge, all of the tikelets that have been
- 10:53Speaker 6: recovered have been taken two vents throughout the Charleston area
- 10:57Speaker 6: because I think a lot of them were in pretty
- 10:59Speaker 6: serious condition from falling from the truck. But we haven't
- 11:03Speaker 6: received any yet. I'm sure if some come to our shelter,
- 11:06Speaker 6: you will see that on our Facebook page as well,
- 11:08Speaker 6: because that'll be very exciting.
- 11:10Speaker 4: All right, we got another chext here for you First
- 11:12Speaker 4: of all, I got to back up, So how did
- 11:15Speaker 4: the piglets just fell off of a truck?
- 11:18Speaker 6: So there was a transport truck sitting in the standstill
- 11:22Speaker 6: traffic yesterday and there was a latch loose on the
- 11:26Speaker 6: bottom of the truck and piglets were just falling out
- 11:28Speaker 6: and the driver was completely unaware that that was going.
- 11:30Speaker 4: So we just had like pigs running rampant. Is that
- 11:33Speaker 4: what you're saying, right.
- 11:34Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's from what I'm hearing and seeing on Facebook.
- 11:38Speaker 6: We had piglets just running up and down the interstage.
- 11:41Speaker 4: All right, Well, that's something you don't see every day,
- 11:44Speaker 4: but in Charleston and with the traffic, it's just another day.
- 11:46Speaker 4: So I hope to hope that they'll be okay. All right,
- 11:50Speaker 4: what do you need donations wise?
- 11:53Speaker 6: So some big things right now are wet kitten food
- 11:56Speaker 6: specifically four kittens and don dishwashing liquid are things that
- 12:00Speaker 6: we are at a zero on in our supply, So
- 12:05Speaker 6: down dishwashing li where do or any brand? And wet
- 12:08Speaker 6: kitten food.
- 12:09Speaker 4: What about the towels because I know you were collecting towels.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Yeah, still that is a always need those towels, blanket sheets.
- 12:17Speaker 4: All that all right. Uh, We've got another text for you. You're popular.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Can high school students get their community service credit hours
- 12:24Speaker 4: by volunteering at the shelter?
- 12:26Speaker 6: Absolutely, We would love for you guys to come up
- 12:29Speaker 6: there and help us. You can stop by the shelter
- 12:32Speaker 6: anytime that we are open and we can you know,
- 12:35Speaker 6: get you started that day or give you information on
- 12:38Speaker 6: how to get started.
- 12:40Speaker 4: All right, Angie, I appreciate it, and we'll talk again
- 12:43Speaker 4: next week. Thanks a lot.
- 12:45Speaker 7: Thank you have a good one as well.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Angie, Gillawater, Canal Charleston Humane Association. Crocodile Rock is the
- 12:51Speaker 4: name of our Pet of the Week this week and

- 16:19Speaker 7: five hundred. We're only eight games behind five hundred now,
- 16:22Speaker 7: so progress was being made, as we always seem to
- 16:25Speaker 7: Talk Baseball.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna say. I really wasn't referring to your
- 16:28Speaker 4: beloved Baltimore Orioles. But that's okay.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Now.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I'm just happy for you know, and I'm even wearing
- 16:35Speaker 4: my Reds polo today. I'm just happy that this season
- 16:38Speaker 4: that the Reds aren't woefully, you know, so far behind.
- 16:41Speaker 4: I mean they're behind, but not not as far behind
- 16:43Speaker 4: as what we normally are coming up on the All
- 16:45Speaker 4: Star breaks. So I'm that's a win. That's a win,
- 16:49Speaker 4: all right. What you got going on in Nitro tonight?
- 16:53Speaker 7: Well, once a month, usually the first Friday of every
- 16:58Speaker 7: summer month, the Night Throw Anti Car Club has a
- 17:01Speaker 7: cruise in here in Nitro and on Second Avenue. We
- 17:05Speaker 7: close down Second Avenue and we have about one hundred
- 17:08Speaker 7: cars or so one hundred and fifty cars to come
- 17:10Speaker 7: out and just so on a Friday night and music
- 17:12Speaker 7: and free food and that sort of thing. Well, we're
- 17:14Speaker 7: taking that party on the road tonight and we're going
- 17:18Speaker 7: to do it at the Marty Gras Casino and Resort
- 17:21Speaker 7: in Nitro. The folks at Marty Gras, Karl Waitner, the
- 17:25Speaker 7: general manager and his team up there, has invited the
- 17:29Speaker 7: car club to come up there and we're gonna throw
- 17:31Speaker 7: it down from about five to eight tonight.
- 17:33Speaker 4: My friend, you had me at free food.
- 17:36Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, you know that's that four letter word
- 17:39Speaker 7: that you can actually stay on the radio and enjoy.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And you've also got some stuff for veterans going on
- 17:44Speaker 4: up there as well.
- 17:45Speaker 7: Right, yeah, Well, anytime we have an event in Nitro,
- 17:49Speaker 7: we always try to be able to provide some type
- 17:52Speaker 7: of information for some type of group, suicide prevention, dementia,
- 17:58Speaker 7: the dementia group. This time around, again, we're really focusing
- 18:04Speaker 7: on veterans. There'll be some groups up there having information.
- 18:09Speaker 7: If you're a veteran, you're having some questions about what
- 18:12Speaker 7: you can have as being a veteran and that sort
- 18:17Speaker 7: of thing, they will have information booths up there. So
- 18:20Speaker 7: come on up and get some free food. We're having
- 18:23Speaker 7: hot dogs, chips and pop and water and all being
- 18:27Speaker 7: provided by the Marty Gras Casino and Resort.
- 18:30Speaker 4: And when you say it's a cruise in, I mean
- 18:32Speaker 4: what kind of cars specifically come out to these things?
- 18:34Speaker 4: What are you expecting for tonight?
- 18:37Speaker 7: Well, all kinds of cars, cars and trucks. There'll be
- 18:42Speaker 7: some Model a's probably coming up all the way to
- 18:47Speaker 7: I know the Corvette Club in the area. They bring
- 18:50Speaker 7: their car A lot of time they bring their cars up,
- 18:52Speaker 7: but folks open up the garage it's going to be
- 18:55Speaker 7: a nice night, they bring it out. It gives them
- 18:57Speaker 7: a chance to have a ride and head and have
- 19:00Speaker 7: a good time. And what's really neat Dave is also
- 19:05Speaker 7: they take donations for their free food if you feel
- 19:08Speaker 7: like donating to the club. And how the club uses
- 19:11Speaker 7: the money is they give back to the communities that
- 19:14Speaker 7: they are involved in. For instance, they're very involved in
- 19:18Speaker 7: the Marine Corps Toys for Tots every year and they
- 19:22Speaker 7: take the money that they raised throughout the summertime during
- 19:27Speaker 7: the cruise ends and they probably buy twenty to thirty
- 19:30Speaker 7: bicycles and just turn them over to the Marine Corps
- 19:33Speaker 7: and all the club members come in with stuff, but
- 19:37Speaker 7: they contribute back. They have contributed to the Nitro History
- 19:41Speaker 7: and Wars Museum. But they just reach out to the
- 19:45Speaker 7: community and just show their love for being in the
- 19:48Speaker 7: Canal Valley area.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Talking again with Joe Stevens about this big cruis that's
- 19:53Speaker 4: going on the scene in Marty Groar Casino and a resort,
- 19:56Speaker 4: the Dave Allance showing five Any Live is brought to
- 19:58Speaker 4: you part by Morgan to Morgan America's Lone or Just
- 20:00Speaker 4: Injury Law Firm. Text here for you, josephs. Is the
- 20:03Speaker 4: car show rain or shine tonight.
- 20:07Speaker 7: It is going on and right now it's weather forecast.
- 20:10Speaker 7: I'm talking to Spencer actings of WWK. He says, it's
- 20:14Speaker 7: it's it's gonna be dry and it's gonna be fun
- 20:16Speaker 7: and uh, just head up on the hill, be there.
- 20:19Speaker 7: But yes, if it the weather does turn on us,
- 20:23Speaker 7: and it never does that, does it, David, If the
- 20:25Speaker 7: weather does. If it does, we will make a decision
- 20:28Speaker 7: and we'll get it out on social media through the
- 20:31Speaker 7: Marty Grass facebook page in the City of Nitro's Facebook
- 20:34Speaker 7: page and Antique Car Club's Facebook page. But right now
- 20:37Speaker 7: we're clean and green and you don't in yellow for sun.
- 20:41Speaker 4: You don't have to register ahead of time, right you
- 20:44Speaker 4: just kind of kind of kind of jump in exactly.
- 20:47Speaker 7: This is a cruise in where you just kind of
- 20:49Speaker 7: bring your cars up and have them out on display,
- 20:53Speaker 7: and that we will have a car show, the annual
- 20:56Speaker 7: Antique Car Club car Show where they give out trophies
- 21:01Speaker 7: and prizes and that sort of thing. That will be
- 21:03Speaker 7: September sixth here in Nitro during Boomtown Days. But this
- 21:08Speaker 7: one just a cruise in. You got something old. That's
- 21:10Speaker 7: why they let me at ten all the time. I'm
- 21:13Speaker 7: an antique.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I resisted the temptation when you were talking about Madelaise
- 21:18Speaker 4: to ask you if that was the car you took
- 21:20Speaker 4: to your high school prom. I resisted the temptation, Joseph,
- 21:23Speaker 4: just so you.
- 21:23Speaker 7: Know, actually it was a seventy two Torino. But that's
- 21:29Speaker 7: another story for another time.
- 21:30Speaker 4: All star skin hutch there right, yeah, yeah, exactly a
- 21:35Speaker 4: few years later after that, all right, before we let
- 21:38Speaker 4: you go? What else I mean you mentioned about the
- 21:39Speaker 4: Boomtown Days coming up that's in September. But what else
- 21:42Speaker 4: is new in Nitro these days?
- 21:45Speaker 7: Well, obviously the new pickleball court. Do you indoor pickleball
- 21:49Speaker 7: court at the Nitro Athletic Complex. It's getting a lot
- 21:53Speaker 7: of play, a lot of folks are getting memberships. That's actually,
- 21:57Speaker 7: Dave when you could be playing twenty four to seven
- 22:00Speaker 7: because it's available to members. When you can't sleep at
- 22:03Speaker 7: night or two o'clock, you can grab that pickleball, uh
- 22:06Speaker 7: paddle and head on over and play a few rounds.
- 22:09Speaker 7: I know that's something high on your listing.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Is absolutely absolutely.
- 22:13Speaker 7: But the pickleball courts are doing just doing great. A
- 22:17Speaker 7: lot of people are enjoying it. So that's the big
- 22:20Speaker 7: thing right now. And you know, we just kind of
- 22:22Speaker 7: just let it. Oh. One thing yesterday that happened and
- 22:26Speaker 7: you may have maryk case fold on here soon to
- 22:30Speaker 7: talk about it. But the old Nitro High School which
- 22:34Speaker 7: is right there at the corner of Second Avenue and
- 22:37Speaker 7: twenty first Street, that was auctioned off yesterday and Nitro's
- 22:40Speaker 7: land Use UH land Reuse Authority purchased on the auction,
- 22:46Speaker 7: So now we're just gonna be figuring out what to
- 22:50Speaker 7: do with the building. But the old high school building
- 22:53Speaker 7: is a property of the city.
- 22:54Speaker 4: All right. Got another text here for you're popular. Everybody's popular,
- 22:58Speaker 4: but me today, Angie Gillenwater was too old. Car cruise
- 23:01Speaker 4: ins used to have a DJ playing some fifties and
- 23:04Speaker 4: sixties music, anything like that, says a Texter.
- 23:07Speaker 7: Wouldn't have it without it, wouldn't have it without it
- 23:10Speaker 7: with Clint Carpenter will be up there spinning the tunes
- 23:13Speaker 7: of yesterday. And it's it's exactly what the texture described.
- 23:20Speaker 7: The music will be playing by Clint and it'll be happening.
- 23:24Speaker 7: Like I said, it will be happening from five to eight.
- 23:26Speaker 7: They usually show up a little bit earlier than that,
- 23:28Speaker 7: but the cars will be coming in and talking to
- 23:32Speaker 7: Carl Waitner of the general manager of Marty Graw, he says,
- 23:36Speaker 7: if people want to stay past eight o'clock, we'll keep
- 23:38Speaker 7: on going.
- 23:39Speaker 4: All right, let me go back to the before I
- 23:41Speaker 4: let you go go back to that, to the old
- 23:43Speaker 4: Nitral High School situation. Any idea. I mean, I don't
- 23:46Speaker 4: want to speculate and get you any kind of trouble
- 23:48Speaker 4: on the air. But as you heard anything about what
- 23:50Speaker 4: they what may happen to it is just going to
- 23:52Speaker 4: be raised or what or do we know yet.
- 23:55Speaker 2: To be determined to be the TBT.

- 25:52Speaker 4: this could have been done overnight, like most things that
- 25:55Speaker 4: they stop daytime traffic for. Their road patching is also
- 25:58Speaker 4: very flawed. They know the right way way to do it,
- 26:00Speaker 4: but won't. Well, this was not taking an issue with
- 26:03Speaker 4: the texture. But this was an emergency type situation, one

- 29:45Speaker 4: I've been on in a while.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:46Speaker 11: I was just thinking about it's been a minute.
- 29:48Speaker 4: What you what you've been up to here lately?
- 29:49Speaker 5: Oh?
- 29:50Speaker 14: You know, a lot of baseball?
- 29:51Speaker 4: Really what you do?
- 29:52Speaker 11: I do a little bit of baseball, A.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Little baseball here and there. So they just wrapped up
- 29:56Speaker 4: for a road swing, right, How are we doing?
- 29:58Speaker 12: How?
- 29:58Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 29:59Speaker 14: Season looking that we just started the second half. So
- 30:01Speaker 14: remember in minor league baseball, you don't have an overall
- 30:05Speaker 14: record of making it to the playoffs. It's the second half,
- 30:07Speaker 14: so we basically have a clean slate. So to start
- 30:09Speaker 14: off the second half, I believe we're three and three
- 30:11Speaker 14: right now, so we're doing all right, not bad.
- 30:13Speaker 4: And who we playing this weekend this.
- 30:14Speaker 14: Weeking is Hager's town, so it should be a good matchup.
- 30:16Speaker 14: We did lose to them earlier in the first half,
- 30:19Speaker 14: but we have some new guys, so we're excited and
- 30:21Speaker 14: we're pushing for the second half. That's when we made
- 30:23Speaker 14: it to the championship last year, was in the second Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that. I mean, you have the second
- 30:28Speaker 4: half was everything. How does it work when you get
- 30:30Speaker 4: the new guys in talk about that briefly.
- 30:31Speaker 14: Yeah, it's a little different. So we, you know, meet
- 30:34Speaker 14: them and they come in and they just kind of
- 30:36Speaker 14: have to hop right in. It's a little bit different.
- 30:38Speaker 3: You know.
- 30:38Speaker 14: It's not like a college where you have everyone there
- 30:41Speaker 14: the entire time. It's not like affiliated ball where you've
- 30:43Speaker 14: known each other for years and you've been to spring
- 30:45Speaker 14: training together. So it is different figuring out the chemistry.
- 30:47Speaker 14: But our guys are good. They're excited to play baseball
- 30:50Speaker 14: and they're here to compete.
- 30:51Speaker 4: And of course the minor league baseball promotions are just
- 30:54Speaker 4: almost as almost as important as the game, almost because
- 30:57Speaker 4: you had so many great promotions and we've got some
- 30:59Speaker 4: more to be working on with you. As a matter
- 31:02Speaker 4: of fact, we were talking about doing the break. We're
- 31:03Speaker 4: gonna be doing an eighties night here pretty soon. We
- 31:05Speaker 4: are pumped about that to be there. I mean, we've
- 31:07Speaker 4: had a bunch of old heads up here in this building,
- 31:09Speaker 4: like myself. We're excited about that. But you know, some
- 31:12Speaker 4: things this weekend and we've got Abigail Cunningham with us.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Abigail want you to introduce yourself to the folks.
- 31:17Speaker 15: Hi, my name is Abigail Cunningham and I am the
- 31:19Speaker 15: development and Communications coordinator for Community Autism Resources and Education
- 31:24Speaker 15: Systems CARES.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Okay, and I did on the promo, I said, I
- 31:27Speaker 4: got a couple of jills coming in because I thought
- 31:29Speaker 4: Jill Scarborough was going to join us. But Abigail, you'll
- 31:32Speaker 4: do fine. I'm sure. Just pay attention to Jill, to
- 31:36Speaker 4: this Jill over here, you'll do fine. So what kind
- 31:39Speaker 4: of work do you do within that job?
- 31:41Speaker 15: So communication side of things. I'm in charge of basically
- 31:44Speaker 15: everything that everyone sees, Yeah, exactly, social media, newsletter marketing,
- 31:50Speaker 15: all of that good stuff. And then development is fundraising.
- 31:54Speaker 15: So I'm writing grants. I'm trying to make connections. And
- 31:57Speaker 15: Jill is the queen of connections, as you guys know,
- 31:59Speaker 15: She's the one that's got us in with the dirty
- 32:01Speaker 15: Birds and has made it's such an amazing partnership. We're
- 32:03Speaker 15: so grateful to be working with them.
- 32:06Speaker 4: All right, So what do we got going on here
- 32:07Speaker 4: with the Agail. I'll let you jump in here. What's so,
- 32:09Speaker 4: because we've got several things going on to ballpark this weekend,
- 32:12Speaker 4: but tell us about this event specifically in this partnership.
- 32:15Speaker 14: Yeah, so this is tonight. Gates open at five point thirty.
- 32:17Speaker 14: As you know, Friday's freebe Friday. We always have a
- 32:19Speaker 14: giveaway and this one is kind of sensory theme. So
- 32:22Speaker 14: we're calling it stim City Night. Not necessarily a sensory
- 32:26Speaker 14: friendly night because it's still a ballgame. There's still gonna
- 32:28Speaker 14: be loud noises and things like that, but there will
- 32:31Speaker 14: be sensory rooms, a sensory shack, resources to learn about
- 32:35Speaker 14: autism and like people like Cares organizations like Cares, wv
- 32:39Speaker 14: ABLE people like that, where there are resources to help families.
- 32:44Speaker 14: I guess kind of like acclimate, right is that the
- 32:45Speaker 14: right word acclimate for if they have someone with autism
- 32:49Speaker 14: And it's gonna be a really fun event. We're really
- 32:51Speaker 14: excited to partner with Cares. This is the second year
- 32:53Speaker 14: that we're partnering with them, but the first time in
- 32:55Speaker 14: a big way during baseball season.
- 32:57Speaker 4: So in your role as communications, what you and Jill's
- 33:00Speaker 4: Garbor and others do What kind of information do you
- 33:02Speaker 4: try to get out to people? I mean people that
- 33:04Speaker 4: may not understand it because you hear and Jill's been
- 33:07Speaker 4: on this show and on Metro News Midday with me
- 33:09Speaker 4: several times and you hear this blanket term like autism,
- 33:12Speaker 4: and there's so many different factors. What in the limited
- 33:16Speaker 4: time that you have when you do events like this,
- 33:18Speaker 4: what is it that you try to impart upon people?
- 33:21Speaker 15: Really it's education and acceptance. So an event like tonight
- 33:25Speaker 15: for stem City, we are having such a mixed audience,
- 33:27Speaker 15: so they'll be families with children with autism and then
- 33:29Speaker 15: general community members who may not know very much about autism.
- 33:33Speaker 15: So stim City is really important because we have an
- 33:35Speaker 15: opportunity to show people what stemming is and that we
- 33:39Speaker 15: all do it.
- 33:40Speaker 5: You know, what is it?
- 33:41Speaker 15: What is it's self regulation?
- 33:43Speaker 4: What does it stand because it stands for something, right.
- 33:46Speaker 14: Stimulization like short short, okay, yeah, like if you're over stimulized.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I got it.
- 33:51Speaker 15: Yeah, So it's a way to regulate when you're a
- 33:53Speaker 15: little overstimulated or you're nervous. So, you know, I fiddle
- 33:56Speaker 15: with my rings, my bracelets. That's how I stem. I
- 33:58Speaker 15: see you're chewing gum over there. That might be how
- 34:00Speaker 15: you used tom.
- 34:01Speaker 12: I didn't.
- 34:02Speaker 4: I didn't realize I did that. I mean not for
- 34:04Speaker 4: that purpose.
- 34:05Speaker 15: A lot of us don't even realize we do it
- 34:06Speaker 15: in some ways. And our kids with autism, you know,
- 34:08Speaker 15: they do get a little more overstimulated than we do.
- 34:11Speaker 15: They perceive the world differently, so they stem in different
- 34:13Speaker 15: ways that are maybe more obvious. So trying to impart
- 34:16Speaker 15: that knowledge on other people that we all do it,
- 34:18Speaker 15: we just all do it differently, and that's okay.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Well I've learned something about myself. I thought i'd just
- 34:23Speaker 4: like going there you go, there you go. So how
- 34:26Speaker 4: important is a partnership like this for the dirty birds
- 34:28Speaker 4: to get involved in this.
- 34:29Speaker 14: Remember the Dirty Birds aren't just a baseball team, We're
- 34:31Speaker 14: a community center. That's what our big goal is, especially
- 34:34Speaker 14: when Andy Shay took over the team, was this is
- 34:36Speaker 14: a community space and a community space for everyone, including
- 34:40Speaker 14: people with autism, family with autism, and for me, my
- 34:42Speaker 14: mom was a special ed teacher and I remember hearing
- 34:45Speaker 14: stories about families and not feeling comfortable going out in
- 34:48Speaker 14: the community because they were afraid of their child being
- 34:50Speaker 14: overstimulated and having a breakdown. And being able to have
- 34:54Speaker 14: Gomart Ballpark with the Dirty Birds be a quote unquote
- 34:57Speaker 14: safe space for that where we're going to have sensory
- 34:59Speaker 14: rooms up in the sweet level. We are working on
- 35:01Speaker 14: having a sensory shack for every single event that we
- 35:04Speaker 14: have at the ballpark. Two we have sensory friendly bags.
- 35:07Speaker 14: So being able to be a true community space genuinely
- 35:10Speaker 14: means for everyone.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Now this is just one It's like I said, it's
- 35:14Speaker 4: a busy weekend at the ballpark, So let's kind of
- 35:16Speaker 4: fast forward to what's going on tomorrow.
- 35:18Speaker 14: Yep, our Pepperoni Role Festival is back and we're doing
- 35:21Speaker 14: it a different time. Last year was at three o'clock,
- 35:23Speaker 14: but this time we want it to be kind of
- 35:25Speaker 14: surrounding the baseball game, So gates open at five o'clock
- 35:27Speaker 14: for that, you can come taste some different Pepperoni rolls
- 35:30Speaker 14: from different partnerships, and then stay late for the MegaBLAST fireworks.
- 35:34Speaker 14: Then of course Sundays always kids get in for free
- 35:36Speaker 14: twelve and under one dollar water bottles, one dollar mini
- 35:38Speaker 14: golf is yeah.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Now will you would players be wearing the Pepperoni roles?
- 35:41Speaker 4: Will they transition into that or is that not going
- 35:43Speaker 4: to happen?
- 35:44Speaker 5: Not this year?
- 35:45Speaker 14: So when we did the Pepperoni role Festival, I think
- 35:47Speaker 14: the second year, we did the jerseys and everything and
- 35:50Speaker 14: we auctioned them off, so we don't have those anymore.
- 35:52Speaker 14: We are hoping to do that for next year, but
- 35:54Speaker 14: we do still have some Pepperoni roll hats that are
- 35:56Speaker 14: for sale in the team store.
- 35:58Speaker 4: All right, sounds like it's gonna be a great weekend
- 36:00Speaker 4: and you had us of Pepperoni rolls.
- 36:01Speaker 11: Oh yeah, I'm excited.
- 36:02Speaker 14: It's right behind the press box too, so I'm gonna
- 36:04Speaker 14: sneak out pretty much every half enning to grab a
- 36:06Speaker 14: bite of Now.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Now, now, you not being from here, as we say
- 36:09Speaker 4: in West Virginia, were you aware of pepperoni roles at
- 36:12Speaker 4: all before you came here? Not at all, Not at all,
- 36:14Speaker 4: Not at all, No, because it's really not a thing,
- 36:17Speaker 4: I mean outside Appalachia, specifically out of West Virginia. And
- 36:21Speaker 4: it's one of the few foods that I think West
- 36:23Speaker 4: Virginia can say is one hundred hours. Yes, because some
- 36:26Speaker 4: of the country foods that I grew up on, the
- 36:28Speaker 4: pento beans of corporate, I mean, that comes from other places,
- 36:30Speaker 4: you know, many times the origins being in the countries
- 36:33Speaker 4: that we all came from. But pepperoni roles, man, that's
- 36:37Speaker 4: I mean, even my buddy Tony the Taylor, who was
- 36:39Speaker 4: mister Everything when it comes to Italian culture, will tell
- 36:41Speaker 4: you that's that's. That particular thing is pretty much a
- 36:45Speaker 4: West Virginia thing.
- 36:46Speaker 11: Only definitely.
- 36:46Speaker 14: I did not know what it was until I stepped
- 36:48Speaker 14: foot in the ballpark and saw that we sold them,
- 36:50Speaker 14: and I didn't really understand what it was. Tried it,
- 36:53Speaker 14: love it. I've been ordering a different restaurants. My husband
- 36:55Speaker 14: loves them, so we've been eating a lot of pepperoni lately.
- 36:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Well, it's it's good stuff and there's so many different
- 36:59Speaker 4: ways to make it. They're almost like hot dogs, I mean,
- 37:03Speaker 4: and people get into arguments over what's a real West
- 37:05Speaker 4: Virginia pepperone? And as I reference Tony, Tony says, if
- 37:08Speaker 4: it doesn't have stick pepperoni, it's not a pepperoni role.
- 37:10Speaker 4: And it's cheese on it, it's not a pepperoni role. Interesting,
- 37:13Speaker 4: So but well it's Tony. He doesn't know what he's talking.
- 37:16Speaker 4: But yeah, But anyway, it's gonna be a great week
- 37:18Speaker 4: And what' you go going on Sunday?
- 37:19Speaker 14: On Sunday is our normal family fun Sunday, nothing extra
- 37:22Speaker 14: to it. But it's a great day because kids twelve
- 37:25Speaker 14: and under get in for free. It's a three or
- 37:26Speaker 14: four start. So if you're like me and don't like
- 37:29Speaker 14: driving home at night, it's the perfect game. So it's
- 37:31Speaker 14: to come out because you're usually driving home in the sun.
- 37:33Speaker 4: Still, you go, it's gonna be a great weekend at
- 37:35Speaker 4: the ballpark. You guys always do a fantastic job. And Abigail,
- 37:38Speaker 4: it's pleasure to have you on the show. Uh, you said,
- 37:41Speaker 4: you're everything communication, So if people want any information about
- 37:44Speaker 4: anything that you guys do outside of the Dirty Birds,
- 37:47Speaker 4: what's the best way to do that? To check out
- 37:48Speaker 4: on social media or what.
- 37:50Speaker 15: Yeah, you can check us out on Facebook and Instagram
- 37:52Speaker 15: at WV Cares for Autism or go to our website,
- 37:56Speaker 15: wv Cares for Autism dot work.
- 37:58Speaker 4: All right, well, so for pleasure to have you on
- 38:00Speaker 4: the show, and Jill, it's always great to see you.
- 38:02Speaker 4: We get the Pepperoni Role Festival going on. We get
- 38:05Speaker 4: this thing going on.
- 38:06Speaker 14: Fireworks, fireworks on Saturday. Yep, stim City Tonight tomorrow is
- 38:10Speaker 14: Pepperoni Role Festival. Fireworks on Saturday and then Sunday kids
- 38:14Speaker 14: get in for free. And as always, you can just
- 38:15Speaker 14: go to Dirtybirdsbaseball dot com.
- 38:17Speaker 4: You guys do a fantastic job with your social media.
- 38:18Speaker 4: That's where I get all the information from. I don't
- 38:21Speaker 4: have the schedule though in front of me. Are we
- 38:23Speaker 4: home or away next week?
- 38:24Speaker 14: So next week we will be home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
- 38:28Speaker 14: To be frank with you, I don't remember who we're playing,
- 38:30Speaker 14: but it's Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then we're on
- 38:33Speaker 14: the road for another week.
- 38:33Speaker 4: All right, guys, I appreciate you being here, Thanks a lot,
- 38:36Speaker 4: and we'll look forward to seeing you at the ballpark
- 38:38Speaker 4: this weekend. Thanks Dave, all right, it's a nine to
- 38:39Speaker 4: forty five. We'll take to break just a little bit early.
- 38:42Speaker 4: You like pig roast? Are you a pig roast person?
- 38:45Speaker 14: I've never tried one, to be honest with you.
- 38:47Speaker 4: Yeah, what big event going on down in Boone County
- 38:50Speaker 4: with the WVU Alumni Association. They do this thing. They've
- 38:53Speaker 4: done it for years since it's a big pig roast
- 38:55Speaker 4: that's going on this weekend. Merrily mccauliff, our good friend
- 38:58Speaker 4: from WWKTV thirteen somehow got roped into this sort of
- 39:02Speaker 4: thing and so she is going to join us when
- 39:04Speaker 4: we come back to talk about it right after this
- 39:05Speaker 4: on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

- 42:07Speaker 4: you can get free food and drinks during your hectic,
- 42:10Speaker 4: NonStop day. First it's free slurpies at seven eleven, then
- 42:13Speaker 4: free Marty Gros Casino food in Nitro tonight, I forgot it.
- 42:17Speaker 4: I guess seven eleven still does that. I guess there's
- 42:20Speaker 4: free slurpies on seven eleven. Back in the day, other
- 42:24Speaker 4: radio stations that I worked at, we used to do
- 42:26Speaker 4: a live broadcast from seven to eleven on seven eleven,
- 42:29Speaker 4: and one particular a couple of times we actually did
- 42:32Speaker 4: like three seven elevens in one day. Started in the morning,
- 42:35Speaker 4: packed up, went to the other seven eleven and in
- 42:37Speaker 4: the other seven eleven. So all right, sales team, get
- 42:39Speaker 4: me out to get Ryan and me out to a
- 42:41Speaker 4: seven eleven for some slurpees. Tex says, you can say
- 42:45Speaker 4: what you want, but our state is hit rock bottom.
- 42:47Speaker 4: It's the worst I've seen in sixty two years. No
- 42:49Speaker 4: matter what party you support, it doesn't take away what
- 42:52Speaker 4: the eye can see and ears to hear. There's not
- 42:54Speaker 4: a good outlook for our states. Sad to be a mountaineer.
- 42:57Speaker 4: On that happy note, let me bring in our good
- 42:59Speaker 4: friend Marilyn mccaulloff from WOWK TV thirteen.
- 43:02Speaker 7: How are you.
- 43:03Speaker 11: I'm doing well.
- 43:04Speaker 7: How are you?
- 43:04Speaker 13: Dave?
- 43:04Speaker 4: Welcome to her new digs. You've been on the show
- 43:06Speaker 4: several times, but you've never been here doing this.
- 43:08Speaker 11: It looks great. I've heard everyone comment when they come
- 43:10Speaker 11: in for the first time. It looks great. It almost
- 43:11Speaker 11: looks like the backdrop of a stand up comedy routine.
- 43:14Speaker 11: I feel like you're going to tell me a joke.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Pretty much. It is not necessarily with Amanda, but with me,
- 43:20Speaker 4: it pretty much is. And that's genuine simulated brick. Okay,
- 43:26Speaker 4: we spared no expense.
- 43:27Speaker 11: It's heard. It looks great.
- 43:28Speaker 4: All right, all right, So let's go to Boone County
- 43:31Speaker 4: for a moment. You're doing the pig roast, Is that right?
- 43:34Speaker 11: Yeah? This is going to be a really good time.
- 43:36Speaker 11: I have to say I have not been before, but
- 43:39Speaker 11: they reached out and needed an MC and here I am,
- 43:41Speaker 11: and I'm so excited to go. So the event is
- 43:43Speaker 11: taking place this Saturday. The twelfth and it's going to
- 43:45Speaker 11: be at Waterway, so a really great venue. There's going
- 43:48Speaker 11: to be food, games, prizes, two pigs they're roasting. It's
- 43:52Speaker 11: just going to fill the area with a pig rost smell.
- 43:55Speaker 11: It's going to be great.
- 43:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Last segment, we had Joe Garret off for the Dirty
- 43:58Speaker 4: Bards and she revealed and I jilled I've known each
- 44:00Speaker 4: other for a couple of years now, and she revealed
- 44:03Speaker 4: two things to me that she had She'd never had
- 44:05Speaker 4: a pepperoni role until she came to West Virginia, which
- 44:08Speaker 4: is acceptable, but she'd also never even now has never
- 44:11Speaker 4: been to a pig ros.
- 44:12Speaker 11: We can change that.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Now you're a Southern person. You're a Southern person sort of,
- 44:16Speaker 4: I would say.
- 44:17Speaker 11: I mean, I'm from Richmond, Virginia.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Let's that's in the south.
- 44:20Speaker 11: Hey, there you go.
- 44:20Speaker 4: All right, So so so you know you know about pigros.
- 44:24Speaker 11: Yeah right, We're gonna have a good time, eat a
- 44:26Speaker 11: lot of eat a lot of barbecue. There's tickets are
- 44:29Speaker 11: thirty five dollars, by the way, and you'll get dinner, drinks.
- 44:33Speaker 11: They've got great entertainment to Claudia Heyser is going to
- 44:36Speaker 11: be there as well as Brandon Williams and he Williamson
- 44:40Speaker 11: excuse me. And they're both really great musical artists. They
- 44:44Speaker 11: do a lot of country music and some originals. It's
- 44:48Speaker 11: just going to be such a great time, really looking
- 44:49Speaker 11: forward to.
- 44:49Speaker 4: And the sponsor is this, I mean, who are out
- 44:51Speaker 4: there for?
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yes?
- 44:52Speaker 11: Okay, so the WVU alumni and friends are putting this on,
- 44:56Speaker 11: and it's such a great opportunity for folks to come
- 44:58Speaker 11: out and just mingle with everyone in w friends, and
- 45:04Speaker 11: you know, this is also a fundraiser for a Boone
- 45:06Speaker 11: County student to attend WVU. So it's it's really a
- 45:10Speaker 11: neat opportunity to have fun for a reason.
- 45:12Speaker 4: And it's not that far away. It's just a waterway,
- 45:14Speaker 4: so it's I mean, you know what fifteen minutes twenty
- 45:17Speaker 4: minutes spend on traffic of so these days with traffic
- 45:19Speaker 4: you have to say, well, it's four days to get there.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Now it won't be.
- 45:23Speaker 11: Yeah, hopefully we won't have to contend with any.
- 45:25Speaker 4: Track now we should be. We should were you caught
- 45:27Speaker 4: up in all that yesterday? Were probably already at work.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I guess what it was.
- 45:30Speaker 11: I checked the five to one one cameras on the
- 45:31Speaker 11: way out and I saw what was going on, and
- 45:34Speaker 11: there really wasn't a lot of relief. The back roads
- 45:37Speaker 11: were also back doun.
- 45:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 45:38Speaker 11: It was just really unfortunately I was not stuck in it.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 45:41Speaker 4: No, hopefully we'll get that taken care of. And again,
- 45:43Speaker 4: this organization, I'm very well aware of what they do
- 45:46Speaker 4: down there. What's the official it's the boot, It's the
- 45:48Speaker 4: wd Alumni Friends.
- 45:50Speaker 11: It's sort of a good problem to have. They were
- 45:52Speaker 11: growing so much that it wasn't just WVU alumni, it
- 45:56Speaker 11: was other folks wanted to help. So it's a WVU
- 45:59Speaker 11: Alumni and Friends organization. So it's alumni and community members
- 46:03Speaker 11: and fans of the university coming together looking for a
- 46:08Speaker 11: reason to celebrate for a cause. And this is what
- 46:10Speaker 11: they've come up with and people love it.
- 46:12Speaker 4: And good news from the news department. They've opened all
- 46:15Speaker 4: lanes of traffic.
- 46:16Speaker 11: Oh did that just happen?
- 46:17Speaker 4: It just literally happened right there.
- 46:19Speaker 11: Incredible. You've heard it your live.
- 46:21Speaker 4: You heard it here live. We've written in this here.
- 46:22Speaker 4: All lanes are open now. It'll be another couple hours
- 46:25Speaker 4: before the traffic starts moving like it's supposed to do,
- 46:27Speaker 4: but all lanes are open, according to Jeff Jenkins in
- 46:30Speaker 4: the newsroom. Let me see. Jeff is also saying, I'm
- 46:32Speaker 4: going to take a few minutes. What I just said,
- 46:34Speaker 4: You're going to take a few minutes to get the
- 46:35Speaker 4: traffic flow back to normal. I'm gonna go ahead and
- 46:37Speaker 4: predict this is probably going to take longer than that.
- 46:39Speaker 4: And you know, we've been spending time at a lot
- 46:42Speaker 4: of time talking about WVU this week because you know
- 46:44Speaker 4: rich Rod. You know, we actually carried some of that
- 46:47Speaker 4: press conference on Metro News Midday the other day, and
- 46:50Speaker 4: we've had people on the show talking about the return
- 46:52Speaker 4: of rich Rod. There is an excitement about this program
- 46:56Speaker 4: right now and time heals all wounds, as they say,
- 47:00Speaker 4: of folks were remember the days when how Rich Rod left.
- 47:03Speaker 4: But he's back, and there's such a fever I think
- 47:07Speaker 4: with this program right now. What do you guys here
- 47:09Speaker 4: and over.
- 47:09Speaker 11: Where you work, Well, yeah, same And you know, my
- 47:12Speaker 11: husband is a w V alumni and a big, big
- 47:15Speaker 11: fan of the football team too, and so he's, uh,
- 47:18Speaker 11: he's excited going to see what happens.
- 47:20Speaker 4: And all these former players are taking part in it.
- 47:22Speaker 4: I mean, they're they're coming back as coaches or just
- 47:24Speaker 4: and that's that's something. And we talked about this on
- 47:27Speaker 4: the show, had Jim Workman on the person of the
- 47:29Speaker 4: Sports Writers Association on Yashually we talked about that that
- 47:33Speaker 4: right or wrong. Some of the former players, and I've
- 47:35Speaker 4: talked to several of them, just did not feel welcome
- 47:38Speaker 4: under you know, under coach Brown or coach Holgerson. You know,
- 47:41Speaker 4: I'm not throwing in shade on them. I'm just saying
- 47:42Speaker 4: that the players told me they just didn't feel welcome
- 47:44Speaker 4: as part of the program. Rich Rud's a guy that
- 47:46Speaker 4: gets it. He gets mountaineer culture. You know, he's a mountaineer.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Uh and uh and so h just a lot of
- 47:52Speaker 4: exciting and this time you look, you know, I'm a mayor,
- 47:54Speaker 4: I'm a football fanatic, and this time in July, and
- 47:57Speaker 4: I love baseball, but in July, I'm thinking, gosh, it's
- 48:00Speaker 4: pre season football ever gonna get here? And whatever I mean,
- 48:03Speaker 4: I need, I need merely that feeling of being disappointed
- 48:07Speaker 4: by my Dallas Cowboys. I need. I need that rush
- 48:10Speaker 4: of them losing when Prescott does something stupid. I need
- 48:14Speaker 4: that in my life. Care Yeah, probably it probably will happen.
- 48:17Speaker 4: And what times everything starts to mor night.
- 48:19Speaker 11: So it's gonna kick off at four pm on Saturday
- 48:21Speaker 11: and the food will be served at four thirty at Waterway.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Okay, And do you need to get tickets in advance?
- 48:26Speaker 11: So tickets, No, you can get them when you enter,
- 48:30Speaker 11: so you can get them at the event.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, but you know, and I don't haven't looked ahead,
- 48:35Speaker 4: should I? Spencer Adkins? What the weather's going to be
- 48:37Speaker 4: tomorrow night?
- 48:38Speaker 11: And be hot?
- 48:39Speaker 7: Be hot?
- 48:39Speaker 11: The last a few days have really been just hit
- 48:41Speaker 11: or miss with these showers. But it seems like it
- 48:44Speaker 11: will just be toasty.
- 48:45Speaker 4: And you know, if you're not a pig ross kind
- 48:47Speaker 4: of person, all the fixings, as they say, see I knew,
- 48:50Speaker 4: I knew I had to get the Southern out of you. Somehow,
- 48:52Speaker 4: all the fixings will be there. What do when you
- 48:55Speaker 4: you know, we in this business get asked to MC
- 48:57Speaker 4: these events all the time, and unfortunately times there's only
- 49:00Speaker 4: so much time in today and we have to pass
- 49:02Speaker 4: up as a TV personality that what do you get
- 49:06Speaker 4: out of this? I mean going out and meeting with
- 49:07Speaker 4: people and doing this meeting with the people.
- 49:09Speaker 11: So this will be the first time I do the
- 49:11Speaker 11: Piggrius and I'm really looking forward to it and hanging
- 49:13Speaker 11: out with the crowd there. And I just finished up
- 49:17Speaker 11: doing the regatta and I was helping out doing the
- 49:21Speaker 11: Wiener Dog Race and that was just so much fun.
- 49:23Speaker 11: I feel like we have a really good mix of
- 49:25Speaker 11: unique events. We have so many unique events. Any one
- 49:30Speaker 11: of these events you go to, you're gonna have a
- 49:32Speaker 11: good time, and they're all supporting local projects, so it's
- 49:37Speaker 11: just a lot of fun.
- 49:38Speaker 4: And going back to the Wiener Dog Race, I have
- 49:40Speaker 4: to give a shout out to my good friend and
- 49:42Speaker 4: frequent sparring partner Mike Pushkin, Delegate Mike push and State
- 49:46Speaker 4: Democratocratic Party chair, whose dog Daisy won the I'm not
- 49:52Speaker 4: a Wiener dog category?
- 49:53Speaker 14: Is that what it was?
- 49:54Speaker 6: Okay?
- 49:54Speaker 11: So so funny. I saw him there. I guess there
- 49:57Speaker 11: wasn't enough dogs to race against Daisy, so we pulled
- 50:01Speaker 11: my dog out of the crowd. Pebbles is a winder
- 50:04Speaker 11: dog mix of all different kinds, so they raced against
- 50:06Speaker 11: each other and Pebbles lost. So congratulations to Daisy. Yeah
- 50:10Speaker 11: they're in the same heat.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:11Speaker 4: Well, I had We had Pushkin on the show the
- 50:13Speaker 4: other day and he was a little upset because he
- 50:15Speaker 4: couldn't bring Daisy in because I think Daisy wanted to
- 50:17Speaker 4: take like a you know, victory lap or something here.
- 50:19Speaker 4: So but you need to throw this in here, older
- 50:23Speaker 4: adults to protect themselves again, severe respiratory disease. Talk to
- 50:25Speaker 4: your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen and RSV, vaccines, Risk
- 50:28Speaker 4: Lass do more, Get started Vaccines dot gov. Paid for
- 50:31Speaker 4: by the US Department of Health and Human Services. I
- 50:33Speaker 4: think sometimes again, and this is a little inside baseball here,
- 50:37Speaker 4: but sometimes when we do these jobs like you and
- 50:40Speaker 4: I do. You said in these boxes, and you you
- 50:42Speaker 4: don't get out to see enough people sometimes because you
- 50:45Speaker 4: know you're working fourteen hours if not more sometimes a day,
- 50:48Speaker 4: and you can't do every event that people ask you.
- 50:51Speaker 4: But sometimes you do like to get out, and it's
- 50:52Speaker 4: a get. I had a radio consult at one time.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Tell me said, sometimes you get you got to get
- 50:56Speaker 4: out among real people, because we're not real people, you know,
- 51:00Speaker 4: we're not real normal people. Sometimes you got to get
- 51:02Speaker 4: out and you just got to find out what's on.
- 51:04Speaker 4: And doing talk radio, I hear what's on people's minds,
- 51:07Speaker 4: but you get to actually get out and see and
- 51:10Speaker 4: see people and talk to them. Find out what's going
- 51:11Speaker 4: on in their lives, find out that their lives are
- 51:13Speaker 4: far more interesting than ours are because all we do
- 51:15Speaker 4: is work. So there you go.
- 51:16Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm working all the time.
- 51:18Speaker 4: I'm in therapy for it. Just so you know, I'm
- 51:20Speaker 4: just gonna let you know merely, I appreciate you being here.
- 51:22Speaker 4: What's going on with you? You folks over at thirteen.
- 51:24Speaker 4: I hear it from my co host Amanda Baron, but
- 51:27Speaker 4: I actually want the truth this time, So I'm kidding.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 51:30Speaker 11: We have an exciting thing going on right now. We
- 51:33Speaker 11: have an app so on the on the Roku app,
- 51:37Speaker 11: we are all contributing our own half hour show, and
- 51:41Speaker 11: mine is sort of a continuation of Good Day at four,
- 51:43Speaker 11: the four o'clock so I do on WWK where I
- 51:47Speaker 11: talk to folks having events that are going on, and
- 51:50Speaker 11: it'll be a little bit more of that, sort of
- 51:53Speaker 11: an expansion of that. So, for example, I had Denis
- 51:55Speaker 11: Workman with the Pigros come on and talk on Good
- 51:58Speaker 11: Day at four as well as talk on this app
- 52:01Speaker 11: that we're doing in my show. The new show for
- 52:03Speaker 11: me is called Community Matters with Merrily, and we've just
- 52:06Speaker 11: got a couple episodes under our belt and it can
- 52:08Speaker 11: be viewed on the Roadkuo.
- 52:10Speaker 4: App all right, Well, appreciate it as always. You take
- 52:12Speaker 4: a time out of your schedule to be here again
- 52:14Speaker 4: before we let you go, give us the information on
- 52:16Speaker 4: the event tomorrow. Just yees, so make sure everybody knows it.
- 52:19Speaker 11: Yes, everybody, the WVU alumni and friends.
- 52:21Speaker 2: Pig roast.
- 52:22Speaker 11: It's happening in Boone County at Waterways. Gates open at four.
- 52:26Speaker 11: You can get your tickets there and food will be
- 52:28Speaker 11: served at four thirty. It's going to be such a
- 52:29Speaker 11: great time and I really look forward to everybody being there, and.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Everybody that needs to get their mountaineer fix on now
- 52:34Speaker 4: would be the time to do it. Merely, I appreciate
- 52:36Speaker 4: you being here. Thanks a lot. Hang out with me here.
- 52:38Speaker 4: Just one second. Texas just crossed Carter westbound, smooth sailing
- 52:42Speaker 4: with no backup, says a texture Texas. I hope that
- 52:47Speaker 4: someone has told the stories and showed the videos to
- 52:49Speaker 4: those new Mountaineer players. Exactly what Pat White, Steve Slayton,
- 52:52Speaker 4: the Runaway Beer Truck Owned Schmidt, and Pat McAfee mean
- 52:55Speaker 4: so much of us as fans and representatives of the
- 52:57Speaker 4: school and our whole state as a whole, very good
- 53:00Speaker 4: way to leave. Merrily, mccaluff I appreciate you being here.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Thanks to all the other guests on the show again.

- 53:12Speaker 4: mayor Danny Jones is here as well. See you on
