- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's Troye Sivan here. I'm hanging out on KISS.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hey. Hey, Troye Sivan. Wonderful to speak to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hey, nice to talk to you. How's it going? Good.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's been a while. How's life? Catch me up.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Life is really good, thank you.
- 0:15Speaker 3: My album comes out today, which is exciting.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm in New York at the moment, which
- 0:20Speaker 1: is fun.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Okay. How's your haircut? Because I saw your TikTok. Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 2: And your word's not mine, but Diane Warren lesbian haircut
- 0:30Speaker 2: was how you described yourself. Now, have we had a
- 0:33Speaker 2: trim since that TikTok or are we still rocking it?
- 0:36Speaker 3: We've had a trim to take it more lesbian.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I have a rat tail.
- 0:42Speaker 2: That's bold. That's very bold of you.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I have a big, long lesbian rat tail at the back.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh, hey, you know what? It's your album day. You
- 0:50Speaker 2: can do whatever it is that you want.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Thank you, Ed.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Can I say congrats on the album, man? I got
- 0:56Speaker 2: to have a listen to it early. I just, you know,
- 0:59Speaker 2: for people who know, I've known you for so many
- 1:02Speaker 2: years and every time you drop a new record, I
- 1:06Speaker 2: feel like you evolve. There's a new sound. Do you
- 1:11Speaker 2: consciously try to do that every time or do you
- 1:14Speaker 2: just find yourself carving a new path every time you
- 1:18Speaker 2: do an album?
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think I try, push myself every time. I mean, I.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I think the goal is, like, I want to surprise
- 1:27Speaker 3: myself even a little bit. You know, I think I'd
- 1:29Speaker 3: get a bit bored if I felt like I was
- 1:31Speaker 3: doing the same thing over and over again.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So, yeah, I try and keep it fresh.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Now, the album is called She's the Best. I always
- 1:39Speaker 2: ask this, not that I want you to choose a favourite,
- 1:41Speaker 2: but for someone who's time poor, because, you know what,
- 1:44Speaker 2: everyone's got something to do. They may not have the
- 1:47Speaker 2: ability just to listen start to finish, but what's one
- 1:49Speaker 2: song you would want people to hear, if they could,
- 1:52Speaker 2: any song from the album?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to cheat.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I'm going to say two because there's basically like two
- 1:57Speaker 3: sides to the album. Like the album was very much
- 1:59Speaker 3: about like me on the one hand feeling very fun
- 2:03Speaker 3: and free and empowered and like on tour and whatever.
- 2:06Speaker 3: If you want a good time, there's Troy Meets World.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I really like that song. And then the other side
- 2:13Speaker 3: of my life was also then going home to the
- 2:15Speaker 3: hotel room and being like kind of lonely and sad.
- 2:18Speaker 3: And so for that side, I would listen to FF maybe.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Now talk to me because I think from on the
- 2:27Speaker 2: outside looking in, being a pop star looks like it's
- 2:30Speaker 2: pretty fun. But are you telling me that sometimes you're lonely?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I don't know. You're just like, you know, obviously it's
- 2:41Speaker 3: like it almost makes it more weird because it's like, oh, yeah, amazing.
- 2:45Speaker 3: All of like my dreams are coming true. So why
- 2:47Speaker 3: do I feel kind of sad still sometimes? And I think,
- 2:53Speaker 3: I don't know, I mean like. I don't know if
- 2:55Speaker 3: it's the schedule or what, but sometimes it's like it
- 2:58Speaker 3: almost makes you go like more inward when things are
- 3:03Speaker 3: going crazy on the work side.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah. And then that's not a good thing.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Would it be fair to say that everybody, or
- 3:14Speaker 2: I mean not everybody, but people have an idea of
- 3:16Speaker 2: what being a pop star or being famous is and
- 3:19Speaker 2: then sometimes when you're living it, expectations don't necessarily meet reality.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And you're like, oh, I feel like exactly the same person,
- 3:26Speaker 2: except now just more people know who I am, but
- 3:29Speaker 2: I'm still literally the same person.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I mean, I definitely do still feel like the same
- 3:32Speaker 3: person a hundred percent, but I also do have to
- 3:34Speaker 3: say it is pretty glam.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Like it's quite fun.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So I think maybe I'm just like an inherently like
- 3:42Speaker 3: person who's like in my feelings a lot yeah i
- 3:44Speaker 3: think that would.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Be tell me tell me uh what's the most glam
- 3:48Speaker 2: thing that's happened recently uh is it was it the
- 3:50Speaker 2: madonna thing at the mtv awards.
- 3:53Speaker 3: For sure for sure yeah um yeah i got to
- 3:56Speaker 3: meet madonna for the first time and like she when
- 4:00Speaker 3: i was literally four years old the first like song
- 4:04Speaker 3: that i used to sing around the house was like
- 4:06Speaker 3: a prayer and that was like the first song that
- 4:09Speaker 3: my parents were like oh he's got kind of a
- 4:10Speaker 3: nice voice Um, so she's been like a very important
- 4:15Speaker 3: artist in my life. And, um, yeah, I, I literally
- 4:18Speaker 3: had like a comedown on the day after where I
- 4:20Speaker 3: was just like, whoa, I can't believe that that happened.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Now tell me about when you meet her, did she
- 4:26Speaker 2: know who you were? Or cause I can imagine she
- 4:28Speaker 2: would be like the president, right? Where she'd have someone
- 4:31Speaker 2: next to her going down. This is Troye Sivan. You
- 4:33Speaker 2: recently gave him permission to use one of your songs
- 4:35Speaker 2: in his new song. Um, or was she like very
- 4:38Speaker 2: like present and in the moment, you know what I'm saying?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Cause sometimes you meet super famous people and they're just like, wow,
- 4:44Speaker 2: I don't even think they know where they are.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I was very, very prepared for her to be, um,
- 4:50Speaker 3: like not really knowing. And so Charlie XCX and I
- 4:55Speaker 3: had literally just performed at the VMAs like, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 3: 10 minutes prior and.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I was with Charlie.
- 5:01Speaker 3: So I, and then Charlie walked up to her and
- 5:03Speaker 3: they were talking about something and I was sort of
- 5:04Speaker 3: just like sheepishly standing on the side, not expecting her
- 5:07Speaker 3: to know anything.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Or realize anything, you know? And no, she saw me
- 5:13Speaker 1: and definitely registered in her face.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And she was like, oh my God, I love our song.
- 5:18Speaker 3: And the fact that she called it our song was
- 5:20Speaker 3: just like, that was sort of when I went into like,
- 5:23Speaker 3: my body started to like shut down. Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 2: And then you and then he thought to yourself don't
- 5:29Speaker 2: say too much but saying enough that she knows you're
- 5:30Speaker 2: interested but don't play it too cool because she might
- 5:32Speaker 2: think you're being rude right.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Exactly right and i kept it really chill and then
- 5:37Speaker 3: um i i was honestly surprised she she runs her
- 5:41Speaker 3: own instagram so we we like messaged afterwards and unless it's.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Like a very very good like gay.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Intern who works for her that knows how to speak
- 5:52Speaker 3: exactly like her. Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I believe I'm talking to Madonna. I could be getting capped.
- 5:57Speaker 2: You believe you're speaking to Madonna, but there is a
- 5:59Speaker 2: chance it could be just a gay intern pretending to
- 6:03Speaker 2: be Madonna. Either way, you know what? Let's leave it
- 6:05Speaker 2: with you talking to Madonna. The lead track from the
- 6:08Speaker 2: album that we've been living with for the last couple
- 6:11Speaker 2: of weeks is Party, which is great. The video clip
- 6:13Speaker 2: is just a work of art. Congratulations on that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I have to ask, it's Party in the Club, Party in... You...
- 6:21Speaker 2: All of the places that you've partied, were there any
- 6:24Speaker 2: other options that you tried to work in lyrically that
- 6:27Speaker 2: didn't work? Like, was there some like draft notes of
- 6:30Speaker 2: places to party that you're like, that doesn't quite work?
- 6:33Speaker 1: There definitely was.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I don't remember them off the top of my head,
- 6:36Speaker 3: but now I have this thing where I will be
- 6:39Speaker 3: like walking around.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'll be like, damn, that's a good one.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I should have said that. Like something as simple as
- 6:44Speaker 3: like party on the beach. Like that's such a good one.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Absolutely. Um, I would like to, uh, make a confession.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I watched your interview, uh, the other day where, uh,
- 6:54Speaker 2: you talked about what was on your YouTube algorithm. Uh,
- 6:57Speaker 2: you and I actually could be the same person.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Oh really? Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 2: B1M architecture channel. Like I'll put that, like, I'll just
- 7:05Speaker 2: put that on for fun.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Oh my God, 100%. That's so fun. I love knowing
- 7:10Speaker 1: this about you.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I remember you made a video about this building that's
- 7:15Speaker 3: kind of near my house in Melbourne and I was
- 7:17Speaker 3: like so starstruck.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it.
- 7:20Speaker 2: And for people who don't know, it's this guy, this
- 7:22Speaker 2: UK English guy who just makes videos on YouTube about
- 7:25Speaker 2: how they do big architecture infrastructure projects. I watched one
- 7:29Speaker 2: the other day about the Metro train in Sydney. I
- 7:31Speaker 2: was like, this is fantastic. This is great. I'm like,
- 7:34Speaker 2: who needs, who needs scripted drama when you've got just
- 7:37Speaker 2: YouTube channels? Yep.
- 7:39Speaker 3: That's like my main form of, um, I guess brain rot,
- 7:42Speaker 3: but it's not brain rot. Cause I feel like I'm
- 7:44Speaker 3: learning something.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I agree. I also watching like watch clips of Dyer
- 7:47Speaker 2: of a CEO. So, you know, if we're on this,
- 7:49Speaker 2: I feel like, I mean, I'm just sharing this with you.
- 7:51Speaker 2: You can tell me I'm not interested, but that's just,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know, if you're in that lane, you pick up
- 7:55Speaker 2: Dyer of a CEO, you can learn some stuff there too.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Okay, cool. I'll give it a go.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Now, how's the fragrance and the luxury lifestyle brand going?
- 8:04Speaker 3: It's going awesome. Yeah, we're having a really good time
- 8:09Speaker 3: with it. We're about to do a pop-up in New
- 8:11Speaker 3: York in a couple of weeks. And my sister's here
- 8:14Speaker 3: because it's going to be based around Sage's Rose, which
- 8:17Speaker 3: is like sort of our main girl at the moment.
- 8:20Speaker 1: She's hard to keep on the shelves, which is awesome.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Oh, great. Would you recommend a fragrance? You know me well.
- 8:26Speaker 2: What fragrance from your collection would you recommend for me?
- 8:29Speaker 3: I always recommend for someone first starting out, go smell
- 8:33Speaker 3: Luca and Sage's Rose. Those are our two like biggest,
- 8:38Speaker 3: people really like those ones. So give those a go.
- 8:40Speaker 3: But honestly, I mean, we do this thing called the
- 8:43Speaker 3: collection where you can smell all of them and these
- 8:46Speaker 3: like tiny little bottles. And they're also then really good
- 8:48Speaker 3: for traveling. So yeah, give that a go.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Okay, great. I'll take that on note. When are you
- 8:53Speaker 2: coming home, by the way? When are you going to
- 8:55Speaker 2: come back to Australia? When are we going to get,
- 8:57Speaker 2: and when I say home, cause I know you're here
- 8:58Speaker 2: all the time, but like in terms of shows, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 2: that sort of vibe. Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I'm coming home for my own personal life in like
- 9:09Speaker 3: a month to be with my family over summer. And
- 9:13Speaker 3: then shows and stuff. I actually don't know. I don't
- 9:16Speaker 3: have any like touring plans planned yet, which is, I
- 9:20Speaker 3: don't know.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I'm just, I'm, I'm, I have a really hard time
- 9:25Speaker 3: multitasking with touring and album stuff. I don't know how
- 9:28Speaker 3: people do it. Like some people will write their album
- 9:30Speaker 3: while they're on tour. That is like an insane, insane
- 9:35Speaker 3: thing that I can't imagine doing.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Okay. So we'll just say, we'll put this on the TBA, TBC,
- 9:41Speaker 2: watch this space. Yeah, exactly. Hey, congrats on the album.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Wonderful to speak to you.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Thanks. Nice to talk to you
- 9:48Speaker 1: as always. I'll see you soon. Smallsy, now on KISS.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Head to Chemist Warehouse and save more money every year
- 9:56Speaker 1: on your regular.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Medication with discounted prescriptions in every store.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Every day.
