- 0:03Speaker 1: Fer's counting. They had a high fly ball deep in
- 0:08Speaker 1: the left center and she is gone. Francisco Alvarez a
- 0:15Speaker 1: win cheater, a two run home run, and the Mets
- 0:20Speaker 1: have a nine to seven lead. We came in the
- 0:26Speaker 1: night with doubts and we leave with the Mets controlling
- 0:29Speaker 1: their own destiny. What a performance from this entire roster.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Unbelievable MLB on TBS Closer presented by Band of Pharmaceuticals,
- 0:38Speaker 1: the largest comeback for the Mets this season. The bullpen
- 0:42Speaker 1: goes seven and two thirds, allows one urn run, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: Francisco Alvarez, who has a broken pinky on one hand
- 0:50Speaker 1: and a spring thumb on the other, takes eight fingers
- 0:54Speaker 1: and smashes a home run, and suddenly the Mets control
- 0:58Speaker 1: their own destiny. We talked about in the locker room
- 1:01Speaker 1: and the right spirits doing what needs to be done. Pedro,
- 1:03Speaker 1: they did it and now they control their path.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And they did it and they did it the way
- 1:08Speaker 2: we expected. You know, every leader is out there doing
- 1:11Speaker 2: what they need to do. Francisco out there, Uh, the
- 1:15Speaker 2: polar Bear, Soto got a.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Hit, Lindor had a big game.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Anybody stood up and that's what they need. To do,
- 1:22Speaker 2: and that's all they needed, one little momentum shifting and
- 1:26Speaker 2: that they got it tonight.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And we are blessed right now to be joined by
- 1:29Speaker 1: the hero of this game, Francisco Alvarez joining us. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: hear you believe you are the best hitter with eight fingers.
- 1:37Speaker 1: How did it feel in that hole?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Run Pal feeling Gray, Man feeling Gray, feeling Gray, I
- 1:43Speaker 3: execlute my plan and I was feeling good.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Francisco queto pienza kera lone sosario paracutz fuego, asking how
- 2:17Speaker 2: important it was to you actually get this momentum shifting
- 2:21Speaker 2: towards their side and at the same time, how important
- 2:24Speaker 2: was this win for them? It says that actually, after
- 2:28Speaker 2: losing those two games, they needed this kind of game
- 2:32Speaker 2: to to actually get back in and get the momentum
- 2:35Speaker 2: back to the team.
- 2:37Speaker 4: So, Jimmy, you have a question for gotch have a
- 2:39Speaker 4: great job tonight, man at the plate. My question goes
- 2:42Speaker 4: to the urgency that you guys played with tonight. You
- 2:45Speaker 4: needed a big start, you got got it right away
- 2:48Speaker 4: and then got behind. You guys kept fighting, which is
- 2:51Speaker 4: something we saw a lot from this team last year.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Talk about the resilience that you guys have found tonight
- 2:57Speaker 4: and able to that enabled you guys to come back
- 2:59Speaker 4: and get this win.
- 3:01Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like like a thing we do,
- 3:04Speaker 3: like a great job hitting sure coming in the he
- 3:09Speaker 3: just was throwing boggling balls in the A and the night.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You just try buggling balls right right the right in
- 3:15Speaker 3: the in the zonzo. That hell a lot to Francisco.
- 3:20Speaker 5: This is grandy.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Congratulations.
- 3:22Speaker 5: This offense of the Mets can be one of the best,
- 3:25Speaker 5: and you are all eating up and heating.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Up at the right time.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Talk about how dangerous this lineup can be. Everyone got
- 3:31Speaker 5: to hit tonight, you of course with a big one.
- 3:33Speaker 5: But how big can this offense be?
- 3:35Speaker 3: Down to stretch, I mean, I feel like we have
- 3:39Speaker 3: a great offense. We always like we never give up,
- 3:42Speaker 3: We always like try to keep going. We always try
- 3:45Speaker 3: to take a quality abad. And today we execute our
- 3:49Speaker 3: plan and we can't win this game. So I think
- 3:51Speaker 3: if every day we can do the same thing, I
- 3:54Speaker 3: think we're going to be very dangerous for this season.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Absolutely, congratulations Francisco on the hit and the win.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I told you.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Oh man, uh, there's just something about his face too.
- 4:12Speaker 1: He just looks like the perfect catcher. You know. But
- 4:15Speaker 1: what you said, everyone getting a hit. You're down six
- 4:18Speaker 1: to one, your backs are against the wall. You see
- 4:21Speaker 1: what's going on around the league. Everyone came through tonight.
- 4:24Speaker 5: And sometimes you have to look at the things that
- 4:26Speaker 5: are working. At this point.
- 4:27Speaker 1: The bats are rolling.
- 4:28Speaker 5: It's not just the top of the lineup. Of course,
- 4:30Speaker 5: there are superstars in that mix, but everybody one through
- 4:34Speaker 5: nine just getting on base, passing the baton to the
- 4:37Speaker 5: next person, moving ninety feet ninety feet, and not giving up.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Being down five in this.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Situation, yep, just continue to get it to the big bats.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Pete Alonzo up with the runners on a few feet
- 4:49Speaker 5: away from big home run right there, Nemo with now
- 4:52Speaker 5: you know, just the number of the bats that everybody
- 4:55Speaker 5: can execute.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And put together.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Like Francisco said, executing your plan and going out there
- 5:00Speaker 5: and doing it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And that's the game plan. Stay high with the bats
- 5:03Speaker 1: and keep swinging it. Eight RBIs the last five games
- 5:06Speaker 1: for Nimmo.
- 5:07Speaker 4: I mean, we talked about it. We talked about how
- 5:09Speaker 4: the big players need to step up, and he's been
- 5:11Speaker 4: a big part of that team. He has been He's
- 5:13Speaker 4: come up with big hits after big hit. Even if
- 5:16Speaker 4: he's having a down turn of the season, he seems
- 5:18Speaker 4: to come up with that at bat. And it's not
- 5:19Speaker 4: all about how many you get, it's how many you
- 5:21Speaker 4: get that count. And he found a way to get
- 5:23Speaker 4: one that counted tonight. And you're talking about taking advantage
- 5:26Speaker 4: of the situation. The Mets did exactly that. Kate had
- 5:30Speaker 4: to come out the game, and we've seen how good
- 5:31Speaker 4: he's been. Although he gave up a leadoff home run
- 5:33Speaker 4: to Francisco, after that, it was just like, okay, he's
- 5:36Speaker 4: back on track. He came out the game. You think
- 5:38Speaker 4: those bats didn't wake up in the Mets, and then
- 5:40Speaker 4: the Mets doug out. You know, you go around, you
- 5:42Speaker 4: clap all the bats and they start sounding real loud.
- 5:44Speaker 4: That's what that boss sat started sounding do off of
- 5:47Speaker 4: their bats. So taking advantage of that situation was huge.
- 5:49Speaker 4: But the urgency is what I was impressed with. They
- 5:51Speaker 4: came out early, got down big, but they never stopped fighting.
- 5:55Speaker 1: We were wondering why Caate Horton was pulled after three innings.
- 5:58Speaker 1: The team came out and said he was taking out
- 5:59Speaker 1: as a precaution because it's backwards tightening up. Patro you
- 6:03Speaker 1: said in pregame. Someone needs to step up, someone needs
- 6:07Speaker 1: to be the leader. Is that what you saw tonight?
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah? I saw at the attitude in the guys, and
- 6:12Speaker 2: also I saw more determination in the players from the
- 6:17Speaker 2: Mets to actually go get it. I don't want to
- 6:21Speaker 2: say desperate that they were playing desperate, but I think
- 6:25Speaker 2: they they were very well aware that they needed this game,
- 6:29Speaker 2: and somehow they battled their way around and ended up
- 6:33Speaker 2: winning this game. I just hope that they continue to
- 6:36Speaker 2: play this way and not get what they got last
- 6:40Speaker 2: last week, where they finally got away from the eight
- 6:44Speaker 2: games losing streak, and then after they won a couple
- 6:48Speaker 2: then they kind of relaxed and and and didn't go
- 6:51Speaker 2: about their business the way they should, especially mentally. I
- 6:55Speaker 2: hope that they continue to remain focused and and and
- 6:59Speaker 2: continue to Dodd an outstanding job. They were trying to
- 7:07Speaker 2: do everything that they could possibly do to win that
- 7:10Speaker 2: Bowl game, and they ended up winning it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You talk about the Mets are like the definition of
- 7:14Speaker 1: a streaky team. Lindor is now on an eleven game
- 7:17Speaker 1: hit streak. He had his first multi rbaight I game
- 7:21Speaker 1: this month, and he set the tone as you have
- 7:23Speaker 1: done and Curtis has done many times a leadoff home
- 7:26Speaker 1: run right away, but every at that he was adding
- 7:29Speaker 1: an RBI his first three at five.
- 7:30Speaker 5: You know what, I think the big thing after getting
- 7:32Speaker 5: the leadoff Homer, you think, Okay, this is gonna be it,
- 7:34Speaker 5: and the next thing you know, you're down five. This
- 7:38Speaker 5: is where I think the importance of playing on the
- 7:40Speaker 5: road came in handy. If they're in New York, the
- 7:43Speaker 5: city field fans are going.
- 7:44Speaker 1: To be wooing the CRUs are coming down right and then.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Now the pressure gets even tighter. Now you're in Wrigley.
- 7:51Speaker 5: The Wrigley fans are focused on the Cubs.
- 7:53Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But also the Cubs are in the four game losing
- 7:57Speaker 1: streak as well, so they start getting to They get
- 8:00Speaker 1: a little type of they know they're in.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Like Jimmy said, they've clinched, but now's the mess, all right,
- 8:04Speaker 5: Just stick to it. No one's booing us, there's no
- 8:06Speaker 5: a pressure. Just want it hit better after a time
- 8:10Speaker 5: one walk, Just get it on.
- 8:11Speaker 1: When they're booing you and they're coming after.
- 8:14Speaker 4: You, trying to do it this morning.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but I also have to give Edwin Diaz a
- 8:19Speaker 2: little credit. Please do come on Edwin. You can find
- 8:24Speaker 2: the way he presented himself. That's what leadership is all about.
- 8:28Speaker 2: He can be one of those guys that could really
- 8:30Speaker 2: tell everybody, hey, we're here. And I think he led
- 8:34Speaker 2: by example today. I think he really told everybody without
- 8:38Speaker 2: saying a word, this is what it's like, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 2: taking over the leadership of the team. And he went
- 8:44Speaker 2: out there, was very unselfish and did what he needed
- 8:48Speaker 2: to do, and that that tells the team. Hey, if
- 8:51Speaker 2: we get to that point, we can count.
- 8:53Speaker 4: On that formed the nice You don't want to be
- 8:56Speaker 4: behind in the night. No, you don't want to be
- 8:58Speaker 4: behind an wave performed tonight because that was lights out
- 9:00Speaker 4: stuff like Pege. We were back, you know, before we
- 9:03Speaker 4: came back on you know he threw the ball ninety
- 9:05Speaker 4: eight off of the bag screen. You said, you like that.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I like that's.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Hey, I'm showing aggression. I'm doing You're getting everything that
- 9:11Speaker 4: I got. You getting the best of me. And that
- 9:13Speaker 4: set them up for the next pitch. So if you're
- 9:15Speaker 4: a team and the Mets happened to get in, I'm
- 9:18Speaker 4: telling you now you better be ahead. You think it
- 9:21Speaker 4: was out of my mind. You don't want to man
- 9:24Speaker 4: Edwin is filthy.
- 9:24Speaker 1: He's this. That was his third six out save of
- 9:28Speaker 1: this season. He had five strikeouts and six batters, which
- 9:31Speaker 1: is a season high. Five strikeouts is the most he's
- 9:34Speaker 1: had in about three years. This Mets bullpen. When they
- 9:37Speaker 1: made all the trades and it wasn't working out, there
- 9:39Speaker 1: was a lot of doubt. They have now allowed six
- 9:42Speaker 1: earned runs in their last thirty seven and two thirds.
- 9:45Speaker 1: They had to come in after one and a third tonight,
- 9:48Speaker 1: they figured it out, they got it done, and now
- 9:50Speaker 1: they control their own destiny. The reason is because the
- 9:53Speaker 1: Reds were in action against the Pittsburgh Pirates and well,
- 9:56Speaker 1: let's just say, yeah, Pittsburgh, jo.
- 10:01Speaker 4: These are those games when you go.
- 10:03Speaker 5: In there, Yeah, we just took it over a playoff spot.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Now we got the.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Last place Pirates easy. No, no, no, these teams you
- 10:11Speaker 5: don't want to face right now because they got nothing
- 10:15Speaker 5: to lose.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And I love the game.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Yes, So the Pittsburgh Pirates, they go up four to two,
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Reds trying to make a run here at the end,
- 10:24Speaker 1: unable to do so. And now the Mets control their
- 10:27Speaker 1: own destiny, and again Schemes is on the bump. Tomorrow
- 10:31Speaker 1: Dodgers Arizona, Arizona one of those teams fighting for that
- 10:35Speaker 1: last spot. Dodgers. Hey, they could make a run as well,
- 10:39Speaker 1: but look, big time shot right here today, Dodgers up
- 10:42Speaker 1: one to zero. Here's what's interesting about the Cubs. Remember
- 10:46Speaker 1: San Diego holds the tiebreaker over them. San Diego up
- 10:50Speaker 1: right now, six to oz over the Brewers. The Dodgers, though,
- 10:53Speaker 1: firmly in that three spot in the NL.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And luc who thrown the bubok?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Who's on the bounds?
- 11:00Speaker 2: There's show Man shohl Tani and Lukie Sharp too.
- 11:06Speaker 1: All right, here is where we stand in the NL
- 11:08Speaker 1: postseason picture right now. The Cubs they're where they are.
- 11:13Speaker 1: They just lost tonight. That's five games in a row
- 11:15Speaker 1: that they've lost, but they are still firmly in that
- 11:18Speaker 1: four spot. San Diego now two games back. It could
- 11:21Speaker 1: be one and a half games depending on their game.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And then we know the Mets have a one game
- 11:27Speaker 1: lead over Cincinnati. Is that win tonight? Is that enough
- 11:31Speaker 1: Pedro to make you feel confident in the Mets or
- 11:33Speaker 1: is this going to be pins and needles for the
- 11:35Speaker 1: next week?
- 11:36Speaker 2: No, No, I need them to play the kind of
- 11:38Speaker 2: game that they played today. Except I would love to
- 11:40Speaker 2: see a little better.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Deepense, I would.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Love to see a little better.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Errors have been just an absolute staple of the Mets.
- 11:47Speaker 5: This
