  Yeah, audience. My name's Cody Brozick.

  I currently serve as the Director of Operations over at
• 1:02
  the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, a little bit about
• 1:05
  myself came from Wichita State. I was actually a teacher.
• 1:08
  I was an elementary education teacher for two years.
• 1:10
  Realized I missed the world of track.
• 1:12
  That led to an internship at the University of Nebraska led to
• 1:15
  Wichita State for a year. Wichita State led to the
• 1:18
  University of Notre Dame out there for 4 1/2.
• 1:21
  Gary Peppin about 11 months ago, called and said, you want to
• 1:23
  come home. My wife overheard the phone call
• 1:25
  and. We moved from.
• 1:26
  It's done deal. Yeah, it's done Deal.
• 1:28
  As soon as my wife said, oh wait, we're close to family
• 1:30
  again, it was done. Well, tell us Gary.

  You know, we're very familiar with track coaches.
• 1:34
  At least we think if we're from the outside, think we know what
• 1:36
  a track coach does. But you know, we've got a pretty
• 1:37
  good insight into a track and field coach does in the high
• 1:40
  school and college level, give us the kind of the 30,000 foot
• 1:44
  level. What does the Director of OPS
• 1:46
  do? I do everything I can to make
• 1:48
  the head coaches and the assistant coaches jobs easier.
• 1:52
  You know, I always say the same thing when I have recruits come
• 1:54
  in and I'm talking to the family and go, you're trusting your son
• 1:57
  or daughter to the University of Nebraska, the University of
• 2:00
  Notre Dame, I said it's my job, in a way, to try to be their
• 2:03
  parent. I'm always going to make sure
• 2:04
  your son or daughter has a roof over their head, food in their
• 2:07
  mouth, clothes on their back and a safe way to get home to and
• 2:10
  from home. Yeah, So what is?
• 2:15
  If you get when you come into the office each day, there's
• 2:18
  three things on the top of your list every day.
• 2:20
  What do those look like? Right now, this time of year,
• 2:22
  I'm looking at home meet management.
• 2:24
  Making sure we're you guys, you guys host a lot of meets.
• 2:25
  We do, We host. We're hosting 5 indoor meets
• 2:27
  this indoor season. Our outdoor track will be ready
• 2:31
  in 25 and we'll host three more there.
• 2:33
  Yeah, so I'm hosting. I'll meet management.
• 2:35
  First thing I'm doing, I'm looking at team travel and the
• 2:38
  third thing I'm doing is making sure our budgets right.
• 2:40
  And why did you go into this realm of track and field versus
• 2:45
  the one we're the most familiar with, the coaching?
• 2:47
  Yeah, so I had a great opportunity to Rascal Westing
• 2:48
  where I graduated from Ted, allowed me to be a student
• 2:51
  volunteer and loved him for the opportunity.
• 2:53
  But what I loved through the opportunity is he let me run
• 2:56
  meats. He had me take a large role in
• 2:59
  contacting high school, so bringing that in and I instantly
• 3:02
  fell in love with. The meat management side of
• 3:05
  things and Danelle Earl in Nebraska kind of stepped in.
• 3:09
  She was. OK, She's awesome, man.
• 3:10
  I forgot all about it. Yeah, it's not her.
• 3:12
  God, God bless her, because without her, I'm not here.
• 3:15
  And Danelle let me. She kind of opened the door to,
• 3:17
  hey, there's this whole other spectrum in the world.
• 3:20
  Yes, you have the coaches that you see there, the forefront,
• 3:22
  but when it comes to operations, it was such a small community,
• 3:26
  you didn't know what they were doing.
• 3:27
  And Danelle really allowed me to come in.
• 3:29
  Take a look at what she's doing and I found that.
• 3:30
  Yeah, I love when people find their passion.
• 3:33
  We're all, I believe we're all built for one thing and it's
• 3:37
  very rare when we actually find that one thing.
• 3:40
  It really is. We go through our lives and
• 3:41
  different jobs and still have fun and and and and create
• 3:45
  value. But once in a while we line up
• 3:48
  with our true calling and it's something special.
• 3:51
  And you know, having worked with you at a couple different places
• 3:53
  now, yeah, you're it, man. You, you, you.
• 3:56
  Whether it's luck or. Yeah, you know God's hand
• 3:59
  pushing you over here, over here, man.
• 4:00
  You're in the right place for you, your family and selfishly
• 4:04
  first school. Yeah, you look at, you know, I,
• 4:07
  I was a junior high teacher and I would have, that was 7-8 years
• 4:10
  ago. If you had told me I'd be
• 4:11
  sitting next to Mike Cunningham in Denver, Co at the convention,
• 4:15
  I would have said. You're crazy, right?
• 4:17
  Right. Like you said, I'm a firm
• 4:19
  believer and there's every person has a calling in life and
• 4:22
  there and there's a true direction that's not going to.
• 4:25
  And how it happens, who knows? You know that's right.
• 4:27
  Yeah. Believer that God was involved
• 4:29
  in that process, but I'm happy to be.
• 4:30

  Well, we're going to see how happy you are.

  We are putting it on the table we are playing right now.

  My little sister made it for me. It's called aggravation.

  So it's a it's a marble game with dice.

  And what you got to do is you got to roll A1 or six, get out
• 5:11
  of your house, and you got to work your way around the board.

  So let's say you're sitting in a spot and I roll 3 and I land on

  you. I send you back to your house.

  And it's one of those things, whether it's my family, my
• 5:20
  inlaws, friends coming over, it's the first thing on the
• 5:22
  table. Any any board flipping?

  No. There's there's some.
• 5:27
  Select words and that person's getting real close and you kind

  of slam. That right?

  A little hard. But yeah, I haven't seen a board
• 5:33
  go flying. Yet I love it, man.

  What are you looking forward to the most in the 2023 track and

  field season? I have the great opportunity

  right now to be working with the brand new staff, coach Justin
• 5:46
  St. Claire, our interim Head coach.

  University of Nebraska. He's in his first role as a head
• 5:50
  coach and I'm looking forward to it.
• 5:52
  We've got a great group of young men and women at the university.
• 5:55
  Justin's doing a great job as a leader and he's built a great
• 5:58
  staff to work with. And so I'm looking forward to
• 6:00
  seeing what that is as well as there's some new track meets and
• 6:04
  new locations that I've never visited that I can.
• 6:06
  See. I've become friends with Darren
• 6:09
  Flint, father of Amelia Flint, and so he and I have kind of
• 6:12
  been talking behind the scenes as it was all going down and we
• 6:16
  were talking about it. Last night was not only how cool
• 6:19
  cuz first of all I just think everything of Justin said Claire
• 6:21
  to be real frank with you, but you know Amelia's family parents
• 6:26
  met at Nebraska and I was like come on man, that's what a cool
• 6:29
  legacy to to build and keep building.
• 6:31
  There was a neat picture, Amelia.
• 6:33
  Posted her I saw. Amendment today.
• 6:34
  And it was her dad and her in his Nebraska letters jacket.
• 6:37
  I know. Hey, her dad's a sharp dude,
• 6:42
  man. And I'm like, holy smokes.

  That's just that's full. I can only imagine.
• 6:43
  You know, Amelia's a great athlete and very smart.
• 6:45
  Darren's a great, sharp dude. I haven't met Mom yet.

  I can only imagine that Mom is the one who runs the ship over
• 6:49
  here. I gotta think and then you gotta

  look at the talent that their daughter have.

  Both owners, both mom and dad, were.
