- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to a brand new live edition
- 0:07Speaker 1: of Foul Territory. I'm Alana result In for Scott Braun.
- 0:10Speaker 1: You know Kevin Palar, you know Eric Kratz. Guys, good
- 0:12Speaker 1: to be with you on this Thursday afternoon.
- 0:15Speaker 2: How about Tyler Tolbert.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm not certain how many people had actually heard of
- 0:20Speaker 1: this young man prior to now, guys, but twelve consecutive hits,
- 0:23Speaker 1: the bat is headed to Cooperstown KP.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We'll start with you.
- 0:26Speaker 1: You guys know how hard it is to get a
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit in this game, let alone twelve as far as
- 0:31Speaker 1: that is concerned. Twelve consecutive hits. Congratulations young man. Kevin,
- 0:35Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 0:37Speaker 3: It's incredible? Like you said, I mean, I didn't know
- 0:39Speaker 3: who he was. The world obviously knows his name. Now
- 0:43Speaker 3: his bat is going to Cooperstown, so it's going to
- 0:45Speaker 3: be there forever. But it just tells you how hard
- 0:47Speaker 3: it is because you think about some of these great
- 0:49Speaker 3: hitters in baseball, the Wan Sotos, the Luisa Rises. You know,
- 0:53Speaker 3: they haven't been close to that. So it's a combination
- 0:56Speaker 3: of you know, getting really lucky over and over again,
- 0:59Speaker 3: you know, having good at the Bowl, skills and then
- 1:01Speaker 3: also helps he can run really fast down the line.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Eric, how many consecutive hits did you get in your
- 1:06Speaker 1: career in terms of your longest hit streak if you
- 1:08Speaker 1: remember two?
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it's hard, right, I'm pretty sure I definitely went
- 1:15Speaker 4: two for two on back to back hits, pretty sure.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So you can appreciate twelve then.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I mean, like, I'm probably the only one here that
- 1:26Speaker 4: knew Tyler Tolbert. But that's just because of his name,
- 1:30Speaker 4: and you know, being kind of a Royals fan, you
- 1:32Speaker 4: hear his name, he's like that you Tolbert. But like
- 1:36Speaker 4: this is not this is like a perfect game in
- 1:38Speaker 4: the sense that you have to be a good player
- 1:40Speaker 4: to do it, but also you have to have the
- 1:42Speaker 4: right things go for you, like the swinging bunt to
- 1:45Speaker 4: tie the to tie the record, Like that's just it
- 1:49Speaker 4: was meant to be. What I'm pissed about is at
- 1:52Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame, Cooper's down took his stinking back
- 1:55Speaker 4: like took it like KP got some extra hits right here,
- 2:00Speaker 4: because this is KP's bat, and this like what if
- 2:03Speaker 4: this bat had twelve straight hits in it and KP
- 2:06Speaker 4: gave it to me like that would be a track
- 2:08Speaker 4: you could have.
- 2:09Speaker 1: At least, well you could have at least had you know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: maybe three at bats, three straight at bats with a hit.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Then if KP would have given that to.
- 2:15Speaker 5: You, I couldn't have made that little truth pick.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Now I know, I know at the very least, I
- 2:21Speaker 3: know I had a five for five games, So I
- 2:23Speaker 3: know I had five straight hits and I can't imagine
- 2:26Speaker 3: it was wrapped around with a net. I mean, let's
- 2:28Speaker 3: just say it maybe was six. But it's incredible to
- 2:32Speaker 3: do that, Like it's really hard, Like just going you know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: three for three in a game is really hard. To
- 2:38Speaker 3: be able to do it back to back to back
- 2:40Speaker 3: days is incredible. But yeah, I'm definitely not giving up
- 2:42Speaker 3: that bat right away. The streak may end or I'm
- 2:45Speaker 3: having them authenticated. I'm riding that bat out until it
- 2:49Speaker 3: breaks or it cools off, and then I'll give it
- 2:51Speaker 3: to Cooperstown.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, no question about it.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Congratulations, Tyler told you have a major way into Cooperstown.
- 2:57Speaker 1: All right, guys, foul Territory. We're going to be in
- 2:59Speaker 1: Philadelphia for the All Star Game.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Cannot wait. Here is what we can look forward to.
- 3:11Speaker 6: All Star Tyler Glass, that Chris Sale the All Star
- 3:13Speaker 6: chow to Minaga.
- 3:28Speaker 5: In fact that I can be on the show, that's
- 3:30Speaker 5: also great honors to.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Join us.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We cannot wait for you guys to be there with us.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Hopefully come and say hello. All right, let's charge the
- 3:41Speaker 1: mound where we'll hit some highlights presented.
- 3:44Speaker 2: By Miller Light.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Charge them about.
- 3:50Speaker 1: We had so many things this week when it came
- 3:53Speaker 1: to no nos, when it came to perfect games, and
- 3:55Speaker 1: it was ironic because it all seemed to happen in
- 3:58Speaker 1: one week. But not all knows, guys, and certainly not
- 4:01Speaker 1: all perfect games are created equal.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But let's start with Dylan Cees.
- 4:04Speaker 1: He was only three outs away, obviously a veteran pitcher,
- 4:07Speaker 1: already at a career high one hundred and fifteen pitches
- 4:11Speaker 1: when he came out for the ninth inning. Eli o'ramos
- 4:14Speaker 1: ends up lining a single back up the middle that
- 4:16Speaker 1: ended the bid. But I loved what John Schneider did.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Let him stay out there, AKA, let him have the
- 4:23Speaker 1: opportunity to be able to make some history, have that moment,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and didn't yank him out of the game despite.
- 4:30Speaker 2: A career high in pitches. What is your take?
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think it's great by Schneids. I
- 4:38Speaker 4: think Schneid's is I was waiting for KP. The answer
- 4:40Speaker 4: is my buzzle, but I was. I mean, Schneid's is
- 4:44Speaker 4: the kind of guy that would do this. Obviously, I
- 4:46Speaker 4: don't know Clayton, I don't know Donnie Kelly very well.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Each situation is different, and Dylan ceases. I mean he's punching,
- 4:58Speaker 4: he's punching tickets. He walked a few guys which got
- 5:01Speaker 4: his pitch count up. There wasn't able to get the
- 5:04Speaker 4: perfecto going to the ninth because of those walks. But
- 5:07Speaker 4: to me, you let him go out there, and you
- 5:10Speaker 4: may be on the back end, don't let him throw
- 5:13Speaker 4: as many. Now the All Star Game's coming up, that'll
- 5:15Speaker 4: be a different discussion. But yes, this is John Schneider,
- 5:19Speaker 4: in my opinion, in this situation, he did the right thing.
- 5:23Speaker 5: It didn't work out.
- 5:25Speaker 3: No, Yeah, I mean I was watching the game, obviously
- 5:29Speaker 3: following the Blue Jays, but then as we got like
- 5:31Speaker 3: in the fifth inning, sixth inning, the no hitter was
- 5:34Speaker 3: still intact to stop what I was doing, sat down
- 5:36Speaker 3: and watched it. But a couple things stood out to me.
- 5:39Speaker 3: One Dylancy besides this year which he didn't have an
- 5:42Speaker 3: arm injury. He had a hamstring injury. Was the first
- 5:44Speaker 3: time he's been on the IOH. This guy has been
- 5:46Speaker 3: the epitome of starting pitching hell, So I think that
- 5:49Speaker 3: has to factor into it. The fact that he's never
- 5:52Speaker 3: had arm injuries. He's always been able to go out
- 5:54Speaker 3: there and make his starts. He's as durable as they come. Secondly, yes,
- 5:58Speaker 3: the All Star Game is coming up to you. You
- 6:00Speaker 3: feel confident about allowing him to extend himself a little
- 6:03Speaker 3: bit deep, deeper into the game in terms of pitch counts.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Three Dylan seeds to knock on him early in the
- 6:09Speaker 3: year coming over signing with the Toronto Blue Jays was
- 6:12Speaker 3: his lack of ability to get deep into games. He's
- 6:14Speaker 3: been punching out the world, but he's had long at
- 6:17Speaker 3: bats with guys. He's had kind of history of walking
- 6:19Speaker 3: guys a little bit more. Before the hamstring injury, and
- 6:23Speaker 3: then post hamstring injury, he's been unbelievable for the Blue
- 6:26Speaker 3: Jays getting deep into games. The fact that he's been
- 6:28Speaker 3: was able to be at one hundred and fifteen pitches
- 6:31Speaker 3: going into the ninth the name with an opportunity to
- 6:33Speaker 3: throw a no hitter and being a Blue Jay guy
- 6:36Speaker 3: and knowing the history of the organization, Dave Steeves is
- 6:39Speaker 3: the last guy to throw a no hitter and it's
- 6:42Speaker 3: been over thirty years. John Snyder being a Blue Jay
- 6:45Speaker 3: guy too, you know, growing up in that organization, understanding
- 6:48Speaker 3: how rare of an opportunity it is for a starting
- 6:51Speaker 3: pitcher to go out there and have a chance to
- 6:54Speaker 3: throw a no hitter. He made one hundred percent the
- 6:56Speaker 3: right decision. And lastly, if you throw out the pitch,
- 7:00Speaker 3: and I know pitch count is something you can't throw out,
- 7:02Speaker 3: but if you're just visually watching the game with your eyes,
- 7:05Speaker 3: he was showing no signs of slowing down. I think
- 7:07Speaker 3: his first pitch in the ninth inning was a fastball
- 7:10Speaker 3: that ran inside it ninety eight miles an hour. He
- 7:12Speaker 3: was just as sharp as he in the ninth inning
- 7:15Speaker 3: as he was in the first and second inning. So
- 7:17Speaker 3: kudos to John Snider. When you have a guy like
- 7:20Speaker 3: Dylan CeCe who checks all those boxes, health, durability, still
- 7:25Speaker 3: showing the stuff, you know, he's your big ticket free
- 7:28Speaker 3: agent sign who came over and he's got an opportunity
- 7:31Speaker 3: to put himself in that rare company with Dave Steve's
- 7:34Speaker 3: at throwing a solo no hitter. In fact, only no
- 7:36Speaker 3: hitter in Blue Jay's history was Dave Steve. You got
- 7:39Speaker 3: to give him the opportunity. Unfortunately it didn't work out.
- 7:42Speaker 3: They made the right decision pulling him out of the game.
- 7:44Speaker 3: And fun fact side note to that, you know, Trevor
- 7:48Speaker 3: Rodgers or Tyler Rodgers got an opportunity to pitch, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 3: back in San Francisco, So that was a cool thing
- 7:53Speaker 3: that he got to kind of finish that game as
- 7:55Speaker 3: well too.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And Dylan Cease wasn't even born yet, guys when Dave
- 7:58Speaker 1: Steve threw that no hitter thirty six years ago. As
- 8:01Speaker 1: KP was mentioning September second, nineteen ninety Eric, I'll ask you,
- 8:05Speaker 1: was Cease the best free agent signing this past offseason?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Maybe Murakami? I mean he's been great for the Blue Jays.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he's been everything that they've wanted and
- 8:15Speaker 4: everything that they thought they were getting. And I think
- 8:17Speaker 4: he's even upticked a little bit, a few more punch outs,
- 8:21Speaker 4: a few less walks. Now he's going deeper into games sometimes.
- 8:26Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean you have to say, you have
- 8:29Speaker 4: to say Dylan Cease over Marikami and just because more
- 8:33Speaker 4: comedy's been hurt. But also like people looked at the
- 8:36Speaker 4: Blue Jays like, wait, why are you making a move
- 8:39Speaker 4: so fast on this guy? Like we get it, like
- 8:43Speaker 4: he's pretty good, but a lot of people had some
- 8:46Speaker 4: hate that they were thrown out there about Dylan Ceese's
- 8:50Speaker 4: underlying metrics, and the Blue Jays said, we see value
- 8:54Speaker 4: in this and we're pouncing early.
- 8:59Speaker 7: Hey, for the family out there looking for a different

- 9:17Speaker 7: liked it.
- 9:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I did. I liked it a lot. All my
- 9:20Speaker 8: kids have done it before. It's an opportunity for them
- 9:23Speaker 8: to stay at home and enjoy school just as much.
- 9:27Speaker 8: They learn a lot. And this is an opportunity for
- 9:30Speaker 8: families that are on the go too as well. They
- 9:32Speaker 8: have to understand, Listen, can't be at a regular school
- 9:35Speaker 8: at all times. I need my child to be doing
- 9:37Speaker 8: this whether it's an athletic career, whatever stature they are at.
- 9:41Speaker 8: And we loved every second of it, and I think
- 9:43Speaker 8: it is an easy opportunity for some children.

- 10:00Speaker 2: The American League Cy Young.
- 10:01Speaker 1: When you look at the National League, guys, it seems
- 10:03Speaker 1: like there's a lot more people in play. The American
- 10:05Speaker 1: League little weaker in terms of the league this season.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Cam Schlittler obviously, in my opinion, the front runner for
- 10:12Speaker 1: the American League Cy Young. But Kevin, we'll ask you this,
- 10:15Speaker 1: where are you standing in terms of the Al Cy
- 10:18Speaker 1: Young Award winner? Here are the Cy Young futures in
- 10:20Speaker 1: terms of bet MGM. As I mentioned Cam Schlittler, Dylan
- 10:23Speaker 1: Seese is right there right behind him, Drew Rasmussen and
- 10:25Speaker 1: of course Jacob de Gram of the Texas Rangers, who
- 10:28Speaker 1: if the season ended today, the Rangers would be in
- 10:30Speaker 1: the postseason in a weak American league. Does this board
- 10:34Speaker 1: make sense to U?
- 10:35Speaker 5: KP.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it makes a ton of sense, sense considering the
- 10:40Speaker 3: fact that Dylan sees you missed two starts with the
- 10:42Speaker 3: hamstring injury, the fact that he's right there. He does
- 10:46Speaker 3: lead the American League in strikeouts. But Cam Schuler has
- 10:49Speaker 3: been incredible, and you know, he's still a young pitcher
- 10:53Speaker 3: in this game too, who really got his feet wet
- 10:56Speaker 3: late last season. It's going to be interesting to see
- 10:59Speaker 3: how the Yankees kind of manage him down the stretch
- 11:01Speaker 3: in the second half. You know, we've seen teams like
- 11:04Speaker 3: the Rays, and I know he wasn't a young pitcher,
- 11:06Speaker 3: but what they kind of did with Blake's now and
- 11:09Speaker 3: he ended up going on to win that Cy Young
- 11:12Speaker 3: Award the year. Where I believe in the second half
- 11:14Speaker 3: the season they capped him at five innings, that was
- 11:17Speaker 3: the most he could go out and pitch, but they
- 11:19Speaker 3: kept him fresh for the postseason. So I would imagine
- 11:23Speaker 3: the Yankees do something very similar which would allow Dylan
- 11:26Speaker 3: Ceese to kind of bridge the gap. But where it
- 11:28Speaker 3: stands right now, I got no arguments with you know,
- 11:31Speaker 3: the way that they kind of have him ranked right there,
- 11:34Speaker 3: But Dylan it continues to make a push and like
- 11:38Speaker 3: Kratzy said, I do love the fact that he has
- 11:41Speaker 3: kind of checked all the boxes that the Blue Jays
- 11:44Speaker 3: kind of expected that they were going to get out
- 11:46Speaker 3: of him, and people thought they were a little bit
- 11:48Speaker 3: crazy offering him that amount of money, that long term
- 11:50Speaker 3: of deal, especially that early in the offseason. But the
- 11:53Speaker 3: Blue Jays did their homework. They understood this is a
- 11:56Speaker 3: guy that I'd never you know, finished I think in
- 11:59Speaker 3: top five Cy Young or he has finished top five
- 12:02Speaker 3: in Cy Young Award, and he even has MVP votes,
- 12:05Speaker 3: but was never an All Star. So the fact that
- 12:07Speaker 3: he's an All Star this year just shows you the
- 12:10Speaker 3: Blue Jays knew that there was more value that they
- 12:12Speaker 3: could get out of him, and he's been able to
- 12:14Speaker 3: go out and prove it.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I mean, I'm gonna love this race because the Blue
- 12:20Speaker 4: Jays are going to be desperate for every one of
- 12:23Speaker 4: Dylan Ceese's inning starts, which every way you want to
- 12:26Speaker 4: look at it, I feel like the Yankees, I get it,
- 12:29Speaker 4: they're in a skid right now, but I feel like
- 12:31Speaker 4: the Yankees are gonna lean on Cam to be the guy,
- 12:35Speaker 4: but in a different way than Dylan Cease has to
- 12:37Speaker 4: be the guy for a Blue Jays team who's like,
- 12:40Speaker 4: we got to figure this out. So is their standings?
- 12:43Speaker 4: Is where they're at in the standings going to affect
- 12:45Speaker 4: the al Cy Young just not necessarily what voters think,
- 12:50Speaker 4: but how each of them plays, because Cam, hey, you
- 12:54Speaker 4: know what, we're good, we might we might back you down.
- 12:57Speaker 4: I think he had one hundred and forty one hundred
- 13:00Speaker 4: and forty some innings last year including triple A seventy six. Yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 4: so one hundred and forty nine hundred and fifty innings.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I feel like you can stretch that to one ninety easy.
- 13:11Speaker 4: But are they going to play the kid glove games
- 13:14Speaker 4: with a guy who's I mean he's twenty five, Like
- 13:16Speaker 4: he's not twenty one years old. He's got a lot
- 13:19Speaker 4: of time under his belt. To me, I think I
- 13:21Speaker 4: think they let him ride.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Let me ask you this, how much do you think
- 13:25Speaker 1: postseason performances in terms of, you know, opportunities rather not
- 13:31Speaker 1: necessarily performances. But postseason opportunities and postseason innings play into
- 13:36Speaker 1: the no hitter and perfect game equation. If you're going
- 13:40Speaker 1: into the postseason, deep into the postseason, and you're throwing
- 13:43Speaker 1: more innings than say, guys that don't make it. How
- 13:45Speaker 1: much of a factor is that too, Like some of
- 13:47Speaker 1: these guys, for example, you know, with the Yankees or
- 13:49Speaker 1: with the Dodgers, or with the Phillies or whatever, have
- 13:52Speaker 1: had more innings because their seasons are longer. How much
- 13:54Speaker 1: do you think that plays into a manager's opinion, Kevin No.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I definitely think it does. And there are certain teams
- 14:03Speaker 3: that are fortunate enough to go to the postseason every year,
- 14:06Speaker 3: and you know, you look at the back of their
- 14:08Speaker 3: baseball car and it shows innings pitch, but we don't
- 14:11Speaker 3: factor in the innings that they pitch in the postseason,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and those are the highest leverage, most stressful innings you're
- 14:16Speaker 3: going to pitch all year. There used to be this
- 14:18Speaker 3: conversation about stressful innings. You know, not every innings the same.
- 14:22Speaker 3: The first inning is different than the third, depending on
- 14:25Speaker 3: the part of the order you're facing, how many runners
- 14:27Speaker 3: do you have on base. But in the postseason it
- 14:30Speaker 3: has magnified so much so I do think it plays
- 14:33Speaker 3: a factor in how managers not only manage a certain game.
- 14:38Speaker 3: If a guy's going to try to throw a perfect
- 14:40Speaker 3: game or has an opportunity to throw a no hitter,
- 14:44Speaker 3: you have to understand the big picture. Teams that know
- 14:47Speaker 3: that they're going to the postseason are going to view
- 14:49Speaker 3: that kind of individual accomplishment a little bit differently.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I would say, different spots at different times. To me,
- 14:58Speaker 4: I think Dave Roberts said it best. He said it
- 15:01Speaker 4: best in the postseason. He was talking about Yamamoto. He's like,
- 15:05Speaker 4: this is why we had our schedule the way we did,
- 15:08Speaker 4: This is why we pitched him to certain points during
- 15:12Speaker 4: the season for these moments, for the moment I think
- 15:16Speaker 4: he was talking about. I think he was talking about
- 15:19Speaker 4: when he was available for Game seven or not. But
- 15:23Speaker 4: to me, I don't think you take somebody out of
- 15:26Speaker 4: a perfect game in July or a perfect game opportunity
- 15:30Speaker 4: in July because they pitched in the postseason or because
- 15:34Speaker 4: you're gonna pitch in the postseason. I think you leave
- 15:36Speaker 4: him in in a perfect game, especially in July, because
- 15:39Speaker 4: this is the chance that we're going to push you
- 15:41Speaker 4: to the limit to see what you have. Like, well,
- 15:44Speaker 4: why didn't you keep him in that game? He only
- 15:46Speaker 4: had one hundred pitches, Like he was our best option.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I don't know if he's our best option if I
- 15:50Speaker 4: never push him to the limit.
- 15:52Speaker 5: Dave Roberts.
- 15:53Speaker 4: I feel like did that a couple times, not every
- 15:55Speaker 4: start with Yamamoto during the during the regular season, but
- 15:59Speaker 4: there was time when you push a guy, and I
- 16:02Speaker 4: think this was the perfect time. This is perfect if
- 16:04Speaker 4: it was September twenty seventh. I don't know that John
- 16:07Speaker 4: Schneider allows Dylan Cease to go back out if they
- 16:10Speaker 4: are if they are in the postseason and they got
- 16:14Speaker 4: to play a three game series and his next start
- 16:16Speaker 4: is going to be in the postseason, or is two
- 16:18Speaker 4: starts from now is going to be in the postseason,
- 16:20Speaker 4: I don't know that he goes back out, So I
- 16:22Speaker 4: think it's really dictates on where they're at and what
- 16:25Speaker 4: the next start is or what the previous start is.
- 16:28Speaker 4: If it's in April, they probably don't allow it either.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, the more opportunities you have in the postseason, the
- 16:33Speaker 1: more opportunities you have to play with it and figure
- 16:35Speaker 1: it out. Dave Roberts certainly has that time, and of
- 16:38Speaker 1: course John Schneider in the postseason as well. All Right, guys,
- 16:41Speaker 1: why not go grab some Miller Lite today because game
- 16:44Speaker 1: time is Miller time must be legal drinking age, of course,
- 16:48Speaker 1: celebrate responsibly. Conversation surrounding obviously Dylan Ceees and losing the
- 17:03Speaker 1: no no there deep into the ballgame. Obviously, conversations about
- 17:07Speaker 1: Jones being taken out through in a perfect game as
- 17:10Speaker 1: well as as some other folks will get to that momentarily.
- 17:12Speaker 1: But I'm interested in your opinion about this.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Guys.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Jared Jones perfect through six innings against the Braves yesterday,
- 17:18Speaker 1: went six innings, obviously, no hits nowhere and runs if
- 17:21Speaker 1: he was throwing a perfect game, obby eight strikeouts, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: then following him the bullpen comes in and gives up
- 17:26Speaker 1: five runts. So I guess the question is, KP, we
- 17:29Speaker 1: can start with you perfect game going and gets taken
- 17:34Speaker 1: out early in the game. I know the situation is
- 17:36Speaker 1: interesting because of you know, coming back from surgery and
- 17:38Speaker 1: those types of things, but I'm interested to hear your
- 17:42Speaker 1: thought on this.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean clearly with the amount of pitches, yet
- 17:46Speaker 3: seventy five was kind of he was probably between seventy
- 17:49Speaker 3: five eighty pitches somewhere that was scheduled going into the game.
- 17:53Speaker 3: You would love to see kind of a similar answer
- 17:56Speaker 3: that John Snyder game, and like, hey, I love the
- 17:58Speaker 3: history of the game. I understand what's going on. But
- 18:01Speaker 3: you could understand this one a little bit more. The
- 18:04Speaker 3: fact that he got a later start to his season,
- 18:06Speaker 3: he's coming off surgery, he's one of their best young
- 18:10Speaker 3: pitchers that they're trying to build this thing around. You
- 18:14Speaker 3: could understand it a little bit. You know, it sucks
- 18:18Speaker 3: for fans of the game because things like this don't
- 18:20Speaker 3: happen every single day. And clearly, you know the stuff
- 18:24Speaker 3: he had that day, the command, the eight strikeouts through
- 18:28Speaker 3: six innings against a really tough Braves lineup. You would
- 18:31Speaker 3: love to see him go out there and try to
- 18:33Speaker 3: finish it. But you can understand it, and you could
- 18:35Speaker 3: see that Jared Jones even knew kind of what he
- 18:39Speaker 3: was doing in that game, going straight down the stairs,
- 18:41Speaker 3: probably trying to avoid knowing that he probably had reached
- 18:45Speaker 3: his pitch limits, trying to hide from Don Kelly. But
- 18:49Speaker 3: in this situation, I do think they made the right decision.
- 18:54Speaker 7: It's summertime. You know what we do at FTV we
- 18:56Speaker 7: look for hacks. How can we feel like we can
- 18:58Speaker 7: do it all outside with something that's breathable, something that
- 19:02Speaker 7: feels premium. Fabletics hooks us up. I've got the cloud,
- 19:06Speaker 7: Jersey t It is super soft crats. But it works
- 19:08Speaker 7: at the gym, it works when I'm on the show,
- 19:11Speaker 7: it works when I'm going to meetings. It is the
- 19:14Speaker 7: true super utility player.
- 19:16Speaker 5: So same here.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Difference is I got the nice stripe across, so you
- 19:20Speaker 4: can have style and also have versatility because you know what,
- 19:26Speaker 4: I'm gonna go to the gym probably in the same
- 19:28Speaker 4: stuff that I'm gonna have my meetings in, and the
- 19:30Speaker 4: same stuff that I'm going to go out and have
- 19:32Speaker 4: breakfast in.
- 19:32Speaker 5: So you know what. This is where Fabletics got me
- 19:35Speaker 5: and Kratz.
- 19:35Speaker 7: Everyone can shop now at fabletics dot com slash foul
- 19:38Speaker 7: to get seventy to eighty percent off everything when you
- 19:41Speaker 7: sign up as a new VIP. Take a quick style
- 19:43Speaker 7: quiz and be sure to select foul when prompted to
- 19:46Speaker 7: unlock this offer. This is a limited time offer, so
- 19:48Speaker 7: don't wait again. That's fabletics dot Com slash foul for
- 19:51Speaker 7: seventy to eighty percent off everything as a new VIP.
- 19:55Speaker 4: This is where nobody's going to watch the other episodes.
- 19:58Speaker 4: When we talked about this with Juri Perez and say,
- 20:01Speaker 4: wait a minute. You said this about Uri, but you
- 20:03Speaker 4: didn't say this about the Pirates. What's the difference. Do
- 20:05Speaker 4: you hate the Marlins? No, this is a different case.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Jared Jones is a different case. This is the Pirates
- 20:14Speaker 4: need him out on the field. They need uri On
- 20:18Speaker 4: out on the field, just like they need Dylan Ceese
- 20:20Speaker 4: out on the field. I just think different situations. And
- 20:23Speaker 4: Jared knew it. KP hit it right on the nose.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Jared knew it when he came out. That's why he
- 20:28Speaker 4: went down the dugout, just because he's like, Nope, I'm
- 20:31Speaker 4: just going if I avoid you, you can never That's
- 20:32Speaker 4: why I used to do in spring training. I used
- 20:34Speaker 4: to just never go into the locker room so nobody
- 20:36Speaker 4: could ever fire me. And then I'd get my money
- 20:39Speaker 4: at the end of the end of the day on Mondays,
- 20:42Speaker 4: and then I had to spend the rest of the
- 20:43Speaker 4: week at Bigley Camp, so I would just avoid. He
- 20:46Speaker 4: was avoiding don Kelly. You can't take me out of
- 20:48Speaker 4: the game if you don't know where I am, and
- 20:50Speaker 4: I just run back out to the mound the next day.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Don't you want that, though? Don't you want that?
- 20:54Speaker 1: And a guy that wants to have the ball and
- 20:56Speaker 1: wants to be back out there, and so that I
- 20:58Speaker 1: you can't find me, so I can't.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Take it out of the game totally, and a joking
- 21:03Speaker 4: part of it. Like you saw how pissed off Zach
- 21:06Speaker 4: Wheeler was when he got taken out of the game
- 21:08Speaker 4: the other day when he was at one hundred and
- 21:10Speaker 4: five pitches, that he felt like he deserved to stay in.
- 21:14Speaker 4: And this looked more to me like more of like
- 21:17Speaker 4: a joking, Like I get it. I know I'm supposed
- 21:21Speaker 4: to come out here, but I also know what's going on.
- 21:23Speaker 4: And I think Don Kelly knew what was going on,
- 21:26Speaker 4: and I think it was in this case, I think
- 21:28Speaker 4: it was the right decision. Jared Jones has not stayed healthy.
- 21:32Speaker 4: They need him to stay.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Healthy, Kevin.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Isn't it funny how baseball works? They take out Jared
- 21:36Speaker 1: Jones throwing a perfect game after seventy five pitches, they
- 21:40Speaker 1: immediately lose the game essentially.
- 21:44Speaker 2: With the bullpen.
- 21:44Speaker 1: A former catcher who they dumped in favor of a
- 21:47Speaker 1: worse player, crushes the home.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Run to likely win the game. I mean, baseball is
- 21:51Speaker 2: just a funny thing, is it not.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, baseball was really funny. I mean I think first off,
- 21:56Speaker 3: it just shows how good your Jones was through that
- 21:58Speaker 3: six inning. It didn't matter who is coming in out
- 22:01Speaker 3: of the bullpen, they were going to match how good
- 22:04Speaker 3: he was that day. But yeah, it's just so fitting
- 22:06Speaker 3: that a guy in Joey Bark, who's kind of obviously
- 22:10Speaker 3: was a big time prospect, a number two overall pick,
- 22:14Speaker 3: you know, was with Pittsburgh earlier this year, you know,
- 22:17Speaker 3: gets dfate that Braves pick him up, and he ends
- 22:19Speaker 3: up kind of having the big swing in that game.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Baseball is so fun to watch because it feels like
- 22:25Speaker 3: every game and even if you're not a Pirates or
- 22:28Speaker 3: Braves fan, there's always kind of these storylines that you
- 22:31Speaker 3: could find. And the fact that, you know, Joey Bart
- 22:34Speaker 3: comes back to Pittsburgh and has that big hit against
- 22:37Speaker 3: his former team, and you know, a guy had to
- 22:39Speaker 3: throw in a perfect game through six inning and as
- 22:41Speaker 3: soon as you get him out of the game, it's
- 22:43Speaker 3: like hit, hit hit, Okay, game's over.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 22:46Speaker 3: That's what he said. That's what he said.
- 22:49Speaker 7: That's what he said.
- 22:54Speaker 1: First things first, let's talk about Anthony Volpi. On Tuesday,
- 22:57Speaker 1: Michael Okay, the long time play by play guy for
- 22:59Speaker 1: the network, shared a report on his ESPN radio show
- 23:03Speaker 1: that relied on anonymous sources, and he suggested and suggested
- 23:07Speaker 1: that Volpi refused to play second base while in the
- 23:10Speaker 1: minor leagues earlier this season. Now, then he retracted the
- 23:13Speaker 1: report on a show Guys Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon, he said,
- 23:17Speaker 1: I had two people tell me, and I heard rumors,
- 23:19Speaker 1: Kay said while explaining himself in the dugout at Tropiccanafield
- 23:22Speaker 1: on Wednesday. He admitted, good for him that he was wrong,
- 23:25Speaker 1: So since that time, Eric will start with you. Anthony
- 23:28Speaker 1: Volpi responded to the since retracted report, claiming he refused
- 23:32Speaker 1: to play second base when I was getting optioned. I
- 23:35Speaker 1: told Boonie I'd play catcher. I'd do literally whatever the
- 23:38Speaker 1: team needed. And that is the truth. And ek, that's
- 23:41Speaker 1: exactly what you want to hear from Anthony Volpi, who
- 23:43Speaker 1: had all of this fanfare when he came up, obviously
- 23:46Speaker 1: to play short loved Derek Jeter came up as a
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yankee fan. What pressure this kid must have been under
- 23:53Speaker 1: played really well, got a gold Glove and then was
- 23:55Speaker 1: terrible offensively.
- 23:56Speaker 2: People wanted to run him out of New York.
- 23:59Speaker 1: But now he's say in the things at least what
- 24:00Speaker 1: you'd expect to hear from a young kid that just
- 24:02Speaker 1: wants to be a team player.
- 24:04Speaker 4: This is all I've ever heard of Anthony Volpe. I've
- 24:06Speaker 4: been a proponent of it, and I know people are
- 24:09Speaker 4: banging the drums. Yankee fans hate me for saying the
- 24:11Speaker 4: things I've said positively about Anthony Volpe, but I've never
- 24:15Speaker 4: heard anything from the people that matter in his life
- 24:20Speaker 4: that he's doing anything bad. Yes, he doesn't hit as
- 24:24Speaker 4: well as Derek Jeeter, good luck. Like the people that
- 24:28Speaker 4: have to take over shortstop forever until they become a
- 24:31Speaker 4: Hall of Famer will always have it tough. Dde Greglorious,
- 24:35Speaker 4: Like when he came in to take that job, people
- 24:37Speaker 4: were like, who's this bum? And nobody hears anything about
- 24:41Speaker 4: d d Ded. He hit big home runs. Ded, He
- 24:43Speaker 4: did a lot of really good things. Right now, the
- 24:46Speaker 4: drum is beating that everything is coming up negative for
- 24:50Speaker 4: to me, a young player that's still trying to find
- 24:52Speaker 4: his footing in the game. Whether people agree with me
- 24:55Speaker 4: or not, that's totally fine. Good for him for speaking
- 24:59Speaker 4: out on this, and I think part of it too.
- 25:01Speaker 4: You know, anything I've hope doesn't say a whole lot
- 25:04Speaker 4: and for him like this, this one hurt him. So
- 25:06Speaker 4: he definitely he definitely spoke out and said something, because
- 25:11Speaker 4: that's not who he is. He's like, I'll do something.
- 25:14Speaker 4: I'll do something for it. What do you need me
- 25:15Speaker 4: to do it?
- 25:16Speaker 5: Don't don't just bring up catching. Catching is not that easy. Okay.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Make sure everybody knows that catching is not that easy.
- 25:23Speaker 3: All right. The bigger story to me is Mike okay here.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I do love the fact that he came out a
- 25:29Speaker 3: day later and said that he was wrong. But this
- 25:31Speaker 3: is my question to you, Alana, because you've been doing
- 25:32Speaker 3: this a lot longer than me, You've been in the
- 25:34Speaker 3: media a lot longer. If your anonymous source is wrong,
- 25:38Speaker 3: you then get to call him out. Who the anonymous
- 25:40Speaker 3: source is. Should you get to call that anonymous source
- 25:43Speaker 3: out for being wrong?
- 25:44Speaker 1: I mean you should, But the problem with sources is
- 25:46Speaker 1: you can't necessarily say who they are or else they're
- 25:49Speaker 1: never going to be a source again. If this is
- 25:51Speaker 1: somebody that he had trusted in the past, I could
- 25:54Speaker 1: I could you know, you kind of say, okay, I'll
- 25:56Speaker 1: give you that when we all make mistakes. But if
- 25:58Speaker 1: this was just some random DRABBRONI that no one's ever
- 26:00Speaker 1: heard of, and he went with that, then that's on
- 26:02Speaker 1: Michael Kay.
- 26:03Speaker 2: We don't know who this source was.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But I do give Michael Kay a little bit of
- 26:07Speaker 1: a pass because he has been doing this a long
- 26:09Speaker 1: time with the Yankees, and I'm assuming that he wouldn't
- 26:12Speaker 1: be as as flippant as just to take anybody's word
- 26:16Speaker 1: for this.
- 26:18Speaker 4: He said he had two He said he had two sources.
- 26:21Speaker 4: He did, he had two sources. But if he if
- 26:24Speaker 4: he gives you a bad source, if he gives you
- 26:25Speaker 4: a bad he gives your name, if it's you Alana,
- 26:29Speaker 4: gives Alana a bad name because you're the one that
- 26:32Speaker 4: said it.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Right, But did he name But did he name the
- 26:35Speaker 2: source to begin with?
- 26:37Speaker 4: No, I'm calling him out if I'm be like, hey,
- 26:39Speaker 4: you know what, Kevin Pillar told me that Alejandro Kirk
- 26:43Speaker 4: doesn't like Mexican food?
- 26:45Speaker 5: Like what?
- 26:48Speaker 2: But here's the problem.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Somebody can click that piece right there, and then Kevin
- 26:52Speaker 1: Polar is hated amongst these people because he's lying about
- 26:56Speaker 1: Alejandro Kirk. You know, it's if he I think, if
- 26:59Speaker 1: if he trusted the source to begin with, then he's
- 27:02Speaker 1: going to give that guy a pass. But I guarantee
- 27:04Speaker 1: you he'll probably never go to that girl or guy
- 27:08Speaker 1: or it's fair, that's fair, He's not going to go
- 27:10Speaker 1: to those people ever again.
- 27:13Speaker 3: So that's my point is if you've lost this source,
- 27:17Speaker 3: if you lost the trust in your source, then what's
- 27:19Speaker 3: holding you back from just calling him out? And maybe,
- 27:22Speaker 3: like you said, maybe he's given him one hundred tips
- 27:25Speaker 3: before and ninety nine of him been correct and then
- 27:27Speaker 3: one is it? So you don't want to necessarily burn
- 27:29Speaker 3: that source, but feel that way as if you feel
- 27:32Speaker 3: that way as a reporter, that he can no longer
- 27:34Speaker 3: be trusted as my source anymore. I'm calling him out.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I think i'd call him out privately.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I don't know that i'd call him out publicly, because
- 27:42Speaker 1: he has given you the right information. He or she
- 27:45Speaker 1: has given you the right information ninety nine out of
- 27:47Speaker 1: one hundred percent of the time. But now I would
- 27:49Speaker 1: definitely have some pause if I ever went back to
- 27:52Speaker 1: that source again, because now you now you look like
- 27:55Speaker 1: the idiot, right, you look like the person that's like, oh,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I should have never gone with that, because then I
- 27:59Speaker 1: mean everyone Michael Kay has a massive, massive following. It's
- 28:02Speaker 1: not like just like you know, some little blogger that
- 28:04Speaker 1: nobody knows who he is.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I mean, he has a massive following.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He's been with the Yankees for twenty something years, so
- 28:10Speaker 1: people take his weight in gold, and they take his
- 28:14Speaker 1: word as the gospel. So when he says something, most
- 28:17Speaker 1: folks are going to run with it. So it makes
- 28:19Speaker 1: Michael Kay look bad, It certainly makes the sources look bad,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and hopefully we can learn from this.
- 28:25Speaker 4: This is massive. Though, this is massive. I don't care
- 28:28Speaker 4: what anybody says about like, ah, who cares, you know?
- 28:31Speaker 4: Whatever he retracted. This is like Anthony Volpi is going
- 28:35Speaker 4: to have to find a job somewhere. Whether he becomes
- 28:38Speaker 4: an All Star next year for the Yankees, he's going
- 28:40Speaker 4: to have to find a job. Like you all, everybody
- 28:42Speaker 4: moves on to another team. If something like this could's
- 28:45Speaker 4: put out there, Oh I heard he's blah blah blah.
- 28:49Speaker 4: I heard Claver Torres. Claver Torres came out and said
- 28:52Speaker 4: he didn't want to play third. Well, now all of
- 28:53Speaker 4: a sudden, Clabor Torres will play third. Like who are
- 28:58Speaker 4: like if that repver.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Gets divers Yeah, that was That's what I was saying.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that those were those are high profile
- 29:05Speaker 4: things and If those things get put out there, that
- 29:09Speaker 4: ruins your value as a player, let alone the fact
- 29:11Speaker 4: that to me, it makes a player look like a
- 29:14Speaker 4: turd because it's not like you like maybe you just
- 29:17Speaker 4: won't do as well there. But if you're trying to
- 29:19Speaker 4: help the team, that's what makes the team. Teams run,
- 29:22Speaker 4: that's what makes the teams that are that are missing players.
- 29:26Speaker 4: You're missing, Aaron Judge. We need to figure out where
- 29:29Speaker 4: we can get the best players on the field when
- 29:32Speaker 4: we face a lefty. Anthony Volpi is our best shortstop.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Cabiierra is going to be our best right fielder because
- 29:37Speaker 4: he's right handed. Yes, we don't want I'm ed Rosario
- 29:40Speaker 4: out there all the time, but you know what, he
- 29:42Speaker 4: raks against lefties, so we need him out there. Like
- 29:44Speaker 4: there's there's things you need to do as a team
- 29:46Speaker 4: to win. And when that kind of stuff's being bantered about,
- 29:49Speaker 4: when that kind of stuff is being said about players,
- 29:54Speaker 4: wait a minute, what Like, Kip, I've been looking for
- 30:00Speaker 4: the best deals for the All Star Game tickets in Philly?
- 30:03Speaker 5: Where are you going to get some tickets from?
- 30:06Speaker 9: I'm going straight out to rife Field. If Harper and
- 30:08Speaker 9: Schwarber both joined the home run derby. I want to
- 30:11Speaker 9: be catching the hometown guys hitting them, so I'm going
- 30:13Speaker 9: out to the rife field kind of where I think
- 30:14Speaker 9: I could get the best chance of catching one of
- 30:16Speaker 9: those home runs.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Maybe in the second deck.
- 30:18Speaker 4: You can go on the app and you can look

- 30:58Speaker 1: Well, the next where you hope that Michael Okay apologize
- 31:01Speaker 1: to Anthony Volpey, And that's where you hope that the
- 31:03Speaker 1: narrative gets shifted to hopefully it doesn't even become a narrative,
- 31:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Hopefully this doesn't get out there,
- 31:09Speaker 1: like oh, Anthony Volpi said he never wanted to play
- 31:12Speaker 1: second base when he was in the Monor League.
- 31:14Speaker 5: But it means a lot. It means a lot.
- 31:16Speaker 4: It's like it'd be like me spreading a rumor about
- 31:19Speaker 4: Alana about you know, and it's like on the show,
- 31:23Speaker 4: it's like said, and then it's like, well, that's out
- 31:25Speaker 4: there forever. That's Alana's career, that's Kevin's career. About something.
- 31:30Speaker 4: And I think sometimes am I saying this is Michael
- 31:33Speaker 4: Kay because he has a great following and he does
- 31:35Speaker 4: a great job all that stuff. But this is massive
- 31:38Speaker 4: for players, and it really is hurtful. And I love
- 31:41Speaker 4: the fact that Anthony Volpe spoke out, a guy that
- 31:45Speaker 4: doesn't speak a lot spoke out and said some.
- 31:48Speaker 3: And it's also in New York too, where everything is
- 31:51Speaker 3: just magnified even more and even more so on that
- 31:54Speaker 3: side of town with the Yankees. So like I said,
- 31:57Speaker 3: I mean the fact that Michael Kay has been in
- 32:00Speaker 3: this organization for as long as he is, he has
- 32:02Speaker 3: a huge following, good on him for coming back the
- 32:05Speaker 3: following day and setting this story straight, because it's not
- 32:10Speaker 3: It is about the story, but it's more about what
- 32:13Speaker 3: Kratz he's talking about. It's about a player's reputation in
- 32:16Speaker 3: this game that you really only can do. You can
- 32:19Speaker 3: do a thousand things right in this game. You can
- 32:21Speaker 3: do one thing wrong or say one thing wrong in
- 32:23Speaker 3: this game and you're written off forever. So if it's
- 32:26Speaker 3: something that Anthony Volpi didn't actually do, and this rumor
- 32:30Speaker 3: was started, and this is something that could cause kind
- 32:32Speaker 3: of this snowball effect in his career because Michael Kay's
- 32:36Speaker 3: audience is so large, and it's New York, and I'm
- 32:39Speaker 3: pretty sure it was probably printed on the back of
- 32:40Speaker 3: the New York Post, because that's what they do in
- 32:42Speaker 3: New York. They take these small, little stories, whether they're
- 32:45Speaker 3: factual or not factual, and they make them big stories
- 32:48Speaker 3: so they sell. But good on Michael Kay for setting
- 32:50Speaker 3: the story straight, and hopefully this is sort of the
- 32:53Speaker 3: end of the conversation moving forward.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Well, good on Michael Kay for setting the story straight,
- 32:57Speaker 1: but he also owes Anthony Vulpi an apology, and hopefully
- 33:00Speaker 1: that happens as well. Talking about New York I think
- 33:03Speaker 1: of Don Maddingly a lot of times, and of course
- 33:05Speaker 1: he is the skipper, the interim skipper, if you will,
- 33:07Speaker 1: for the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Who knows what happens beyond this season.
- 33:11Speaker 1: But asked in an interview before the game, how he
- 33:13Speaker 1: would feel if the Phillies approached him about managing beyond
- 33:16Speaker 1: this year, he said, yes, he'd like to do that.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Now he's working on an interim tag at the moment,
- 33:21Speaker 1: as we said, says it depends, of course, on what
- 33:22Speaker 1: David Dobrowski would like to do. But we were talking
- 33:25Speaker 1: about this guy's in our production meeting Buster only with
- 33:28Speaker 1: the tweet there, and I would be kind of irritated
- 33:31Speaker 1: if it felt like, you know, I'm just this interim dude,
- 33:34Speaker 1: and here we go, here comes Alex Cora. I mean,
- 33:37Speaker 1: they're playing so well under Donnie Baseball and Mark Wiener,
- 33:43Speaker 1: our big boss, was like, what if they make the
- 33:45Speaker 1: World Series? Are you not going to bring Eric? Are
- 33:47Speaker 1: you not going to bring Don Maddingly back? Because already
- 33:51Speaker 1: in your mind when Rob Thompson was fired, it was
- 33:53Speaker 1: like Alex Cora was the heir apparent.
- 33:55Speaker 2: What do you do in this situation?
- 33:58Speaker 4: I don't know how Dave Dombrowski Dayvion Browski doesn't seem
- 34:01Speaker 4: like he really cares what people think. He is going
- 34:03Speaker 4: to make the moves that he feels like he's best
- 34:05Speaker 4: for the team. But when you're choosing a manager, you're
- 34:09Speaker 4: choosing what kind of like environment you want your players
- 34:13Speaker 4: to play and the players that you went out and
- 34:15Speaker 4: spent money on and traded for prospects on. And Dave
- 34:18Speaker 4: don Browski wants to win. So if he doesn't think
- 34:21Speaker 4: that Don Mattingly going forward after this season is the
- 34:25Speaker 4: best fit to manage this team, I don't think Dave
- 34:28Speaker 4: don Browski's really going to feel that bad about going
- 34:31Speaker 4: out and getting the guy who he thinks in jo
- 34:35Speaker 4: In Alex Korra they won a World Series together, is
- 34:38Speaker 4: going to be the guy obviously, depending on how far
- 34:41Speaker 4: they go. If they continue to play well, Don's built
- 34:44Speaker 4: some rapport with this team and to give these guys
- 34:48Speaker 4: a fourth manager in their tenure as players with Bryce Harper, Schwarber,
- 34:53Speaker 4: Real muteau Stott was even up there. Bom was even like,
- 34:57Speaker 4: all these guys, a Bowl will be gone after this year.
- 34:59Speaker 4: But you know the this team has had Joe Girardi,
- 35:03Speaker 4: Rob Thompson, Don Mattingley, and then he would go and
- 35:05Speaker 4: throw Alex Cora into it. I think Don Brawski will
- 35:08Speaker 4: make the right move. But I'm not saying the right
- 35:10Speaker 4: move is keeping Don or the right move is bringing
- 35:14Speaker 4: in Alex Cora. It just seems it's a tough it's
- 35:18Speaker 4: a tough spot.
- 35:19Speaker 2: It is a tough spot. How how tough would it be, Kevin?
- 35:22Speaker 1: If Preston Maddenly is in those meetings, that's your dad,
- 35:25Speaker 1: but you're also the GM of the team.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it would have to be
- 35:31Speaker 3: a deeper conversation than Buster Oney's reporting about Don Mannley
- 35:35Speaker 3: potentially wanting the stage. Don Mattingley is a little bit older,
- 35:39Speaker 3: He's got younger kids, you know, He you know, hasn't
- 35:43Speaker 3: been a manager in a while. He's kind of enjoyed
- 35:45Speaker 3: his role that he had with the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 35:48Speaker 3: You know, he's now stepped up, you know, and maybe
- 35:50Speaker 3: he has this new kind of found joy and love
- 35:53Speaker 3: for managing again. But I think it's a longer conversation.
- 35:56Speaker 3: I think Eric makes a fair point on a couple
- 35:58Speaker 3: of things. Dave Debrowski doesn't seem like a guy who
- 36:01Speaker 3: gets caught up in kind of the emotion of either
- 36:04Speaker 3: the fans or what's going on currently. I mean, I
- 36:07Speaker 3: think if they win the World Series, you have to
- 36:10Speaker 3: bring them back. But I think if they even get
- 36:12Speaker 3: to the World Series and lose, I think Dave Dombrowski
- 36:15Speaker 3: can justify the idea that he did a great job
- 36:18Speaker 3: for our team, but he didn't win the whole thing, right.
- 36:21Speaker 3: I think that's just the way his mind works. But
- 36:24Speaker 3: it's crazy because for the longest time you just kind
- 36:27Speaker 3: of felt like Alex Kor was the heir apparent. But
- 36:30Speaker 3: what Don's been able to do for this team, And
- 36:33Speaker 3: you think about is it the reason the Blue Jays
- 36:35Speaker 3: aren't playing well? But could it be some reason that
- 36:38Speaker 3: they're not playing as well the fact that don was
- 36:41Speaker 3: there last year and he's not there anymore. I don't
- 36:43Speaker 3: know exactly what Donnie Baseball's role was with the Blue Jays,
- 36:46Speaker 3: whether it was making in game decisions, keeping John Snyder
- 36:51Speaker 3: in line with his decision making. Maybe it was just
- 36:54Speaker 3: a relationship that he had with the guys in the clubhouse.
- 36:56Speaker 3: But clearly there's a void that's missing without Donnie Baseball there,
- 37:00Speaker 3: and clearly something has changed in Philadelphia because we're talking
- 37:03Speaker 3: about the same group of players. They didn't go out
- 37:06Speaker 3: and make any additional moves when they fired Rob Thompson.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Donnie's just kind of trying, took, you know, one off
- 37:12Speaker 3: his desk over the team's playing better. So there's something
- 37:16Speaker 3: magical about Donnie baseball. So there's gonna be a tough
- 37:20Speaker 3: decision for Dave Dombrowski. But you know, I was when
- 37:24Speaker 3: Philly was in town in Toronto. I was sitting like
- 37:27Speaker 3: two suits over from him, and I was just watching him.
- 37:30Speaker 3: And that guy is like a robot, like he has
- 37:32Speaker 3: no emotion. You feel like his brain's always kind of calculating.
- 37:36Speaker 3: He's thinking about the now, tomorrow, the future. He's probably
- 37:39Speaker 3: thinking about the past decisions he made in the past.
- 37:41Speaker 3: So if there's a guy who's probably gonna go out
- 37:44Speaker 3: and make the best decision for this organization moving forward
- 37:49Speaker 3: without any emotional attachment to it, it's David Broski.
- 37:53Speaker 4: If I'm done matting Lee and I had this illustrious
- 37:55Speaker 4: baseball career, this should be a Hall of Fame player,
- 37:58Speaker 4: incredible manager, coaching stuff, and I win a World Series. Sorry, KP,
- 38:03Speaker 4: you can't even hire me. I'm going I'm walking out
- 38:06Speaker 4: a champion. I thought he was gonna do it last year,
- 38:09Speaker 4: but I kf didn't get a big enough lead.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Let me ask you this, does Dave Dombrowski is do
- 38:15Speaker 1: you force the hand to bring Donnie back dependent upon
- 38:20Speaker 1: how deep they get into the postseason? If this team
- 38:23Speaker 1: goes to the World Series, do you have to bring
- 38:25Speaker 1: him back? If they don't make the postseason, which they're
- 38:27Speaker 1: going to, then does that make it easier for you?
- 38:30Speaker 2: Kevin?
- 38:31Speaker 3: I think you. I mean, this is me being a
- 38:34Speaker 3: wishful thinker, But I'd like to think that the players
- 38:37Speaker 3: that are there for a long time, like Bryce Harbor
- 38:39Speaker 3: and Trey Turner and Kyle Schwarber who's recently signed his deal,
- 38:43Speaker 3: probably have a little bit of say and if they
- 38:46Speaker 3: want Donnie back, if they feel like he's the best
- 38:48Speaker 3: guy moving forward. And I'd like to think how deep
- 38:52Speaker 3: they get into the playoffs has a little bit of
- 38:54Speaker 3: effect in it. But like I said, I think Dave
- 38:56Speaker 3: Dombrowski is so he set such a standard for himself
- 39:00Speaker 3: in whatever organization that he runs. Unless they win the
- 39:02Speaker 3: World Series, it doesn't matter how deep you go into
- 39:05Speaker 3: the postseason.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Yeah, no, no, I don't think it matters. I think
- 39:10Speaker 4: Dave Dombrowski knows what he needs to see from this
- 39:15Speaker 4: player group. But I also think, you know, the player
- 39:18Speaker 4: group needs to be able to speak up, and I
- 39:20Speaker 4: think Dave isn't afraid to ask players those types of
- 39:24Speaker 4: hard questions that are going to be there for the
- 39:26Speaker 4: next few years. So I think he makes the right decision.
- 39:29Speaker 4: And I don't know if Don is the right decision,
- 39:31Speaker 4: and I don't know if Alex is the right decision.
- 39:33Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Either of them very well, and I'm not in that clubhouse.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Zach Wheeler said last night guys he would pitch in
- 39:46Speaker 1: the All Star Game, even though he is scheduled to
- 39:49Speaker 1: pitch Sunday in Destois. His manager and pitching coach said
- 39:53Speaker 1: today they'd have no problem with it. He wants to pitch,
- 39:56Speaker 1: he wants to participate. Is this a snub that mister
- 40:00Speaker 1: Wheeler is not in the All Star Game?
- 40:04Speaker 2: Not pitch?
- 40:04Speaker 3: Absolutely, And I do have a hot take on this.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Here's my take. People that go to the All Star Game,
- 40:11Speaker 3: and I never got a chance to go, but I
- 40:12Speaker 3: have a lot of friends that went to it, and
- 40:14Speaker 3: obviously it's a great honor to go, but you don't
- 40:17Speaker 3: necessarily get any break. You know, you travel Sunday, you
- 40:21Speaker 3: have the home run Derby, then you have the All
- 40:23Speaker 3: Star Game, you have all the kind of events you
- 40:25Speaker 3: have to do. Yeah, the game's over late. Then maybe
- 40:28Speaker 3: you travel the next day. You maybe get one day
- 40:30Speaker 3: at home. The reason Zach Wheeler is not an All
- 40:33Speaker 3: Star is because the reason he's coming out and saying
- 40:36Speaker 3: that is because he wants to be an All Star
- 40:37Speaker 3: and he's deserving to be an All Star. And the
- 40:39Speaker 3: only way Major League Baseball could really justify adding him
- 40:42Speaker 3: to the rosters he'd have to pitch in the game.
- 40:44Speaker 3: So here's my hot take. The guys that go to
- 40:46Speaker 3: the All Star Game deserve a break. So why don't
- 40:49Speaker 3: we move the All Star Game back to the middle
- 40:52Speaker 3: of the week. Give these guys an entire week off
- 40:54Speaker 3: where there is no Guys who pitch Sunday aren't eligible
- 40:58Speaker 3: to pitch in the All Star Game. Give guys Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 41:01Speaker 3: Homer and Derby, Thursday, All Star Game, Friday, Saturday, travel Day,
- 41:07Speaker 3: Sunday off start the season on Monday. Allows every guy
- 41:11Speaker 3: who deserves to be an All Star on the pitching side,
- 41:13Speaker 3: who's no longer eligible because they're pitching too close to
- 41:16Speaker 3: the game, And you're allowing these guys maybe a couple
- 41:19Speaker 3: of days to get home, see their kids, spend time
- 41:21Speaker 3: at home, go on a little bit of a trip
- 41:23Speaker 3: before they go on the All Star break.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Bo I like a guy when he has when he
- 41:29Speaker 1: has a problem with something, he has a solution. And
- 41:32Speaker 1: Kevin Pillar has a solution.
- 41:34Speaker 3: I love that and I and you know what, I
- 41:37Speaker 3: wish I would have had that problem in my career
- 41:40Speaker 3: that Okay, you play a game Sunday, you're on a plane,
- 41:43Speaker 3: you know. I know, for the Blue Jays, they're in
- 41:44Speaker 3: San Diego, they got to fly all the way to
- 41:47Speaker 3: Philadelphia for the All Star Game. And gladly a lot
- 41:50Speaker 3: of those guys, especially some of those first time guys
- 41:52Speaker 3: and that staff, would would have flown around the world
- 41:54Speaker 3: to get a chance to, you know, participate in the
- 41:57Speaker 3: All Star Game. But for the guys that are going
- 41:59Speaker 3: there year after year after year, those guys deserve a
- 42:03Speaker 3: little bit of a break. So why not just move
- 42:05Speaker 3: it back, you know, a couple of days. Everyone else
- 42:08Speaker 3: in baseball will figure out how to have a week
- 42:11Speaker 3: off and be able to perform at their best. And
- 42:13Speaker 3: you know what, for the guys that don't go to
- 42:15Speaker 3: the Ulster game, they get Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday off.
- 42:19Speaker 3: They fly back to their city, they have their workouts,
- 42:21Speaker 3: you know, Saturday Sunday, and they're ready to hit the ground,
- 42:24Speaker 3: you know, on on a Monday to start the season.
- 42:26Speaker 3: But it just does seem unfair for these guys that
- 42:30Speaker 3: year in and year out go to the Ulster game,
- 42:32Speaker 3: get zero time off to get away from the game,
- 42:36Speaker 3: to just actually spend some quality time with their family,
- 42:39Speaker 3: away from a baseball event or at a baseball field.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Owners and teams would never give up a weekend full
- 42:46Speaker 4: of gates, so that's why they're always going to keep
- 42:49Speaker 4: it Monday Tuesday. And they feel like they're doing us
- 42:53Speaker 4: as players a concession by saying, okay, get you get
- 42:57Speaker 4: Wednesday Thursday off. One are the least attended games games
- 43:01Speaker 4: Monday through Thursday, so they're like, yeah, we'll do an
- 43:04Speaker 4: exhibition during that time. We give him a weekend. Oh man,
- 43:09Speaker 4: our wallets are gonna get hit. But don't forget they do.
- 43:13Speaker 4: The Phillies have now had two Fridays off this year,
- 43:17Speaker 4: two fridays they have not played of the World Cup.
- 43:21Speaker 4: But two Fridays off already this season, so they're willing
- 43:25Speaker 4: to make concessions.
- 43:27Speaker 5: I love that.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I don't love that Zach Wheeler is not in the game.
- 43:31Speaker 4: I don't love it. He's willing to pitch, which there's
- 43:35Speaker 4: gonna be plenty of dudes who are not willing to pitch.
- 43:38Speaker 4: You know, he is the best, that is the he's
- 43:40Speaker 4: the next best. Yes, we can talk about snubs, Foster, Griffin,
- 43:44Speaker 4: blah blah blah across the board. Ask him, just ask him.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Oh no, we have a rule.
- 43:50Speaker 4: We can't do this. Just ask him. You want the
- 43:53Speaker 4: games best there? Oh wait, and he said he's gonna pitch.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Holy crap, Like this is perfect. He could even start
- 44:00Speaker 4: the game. I know he's not going to, but he could.
- 44:06Speaker 2: Having Fridays off in the regular season is weird.
- 44:10Speaker 3: That's weird.
- 44:10Speaker 5: I think twice.
- 44:12Speaker 3: I think I had one Friday off my whole career.
- 44:15Speaker 3: I was in San Francisco and I can't remember. I
- 44:18Speaker 3: think we had played the Bay Bridge and it was
- 44:21Speaker 3: like I think it was just like Saturday, Sunday was
- 44:23Speaker 3: the game. So we had a random Friday off and
- 44:25Speaker 3: it was the weirdest time because Friday is typically always
- 44:29Speaker 3: a night game unless you're maybe playing the Cubs or something.
- 44:32Speaker 3: But to have a Friday off was never so I
- 44:36Speaker 3: guess normal for a lot of people, but like as
- 44:38Speaker 3: a baseball player, like that never happens.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Never.
- 44:40Speaker 5: Never.
- 44:41Speaker 1: That's that's like, that's as weird as like a like
- 44:44Speaker 1: a Tuesday getaway day, like that doesn't happen. Do you
- 44:47Speaker 1: get a getaway days on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays? You're
- 44:50Speaker 1: always playing Friday, silly silliness. Mike Trout headed back to
- 44:54Speaker 1: the All Star Game. Guys, he's officially off of the
- 44:58Speaker 1: I l should be a go for the All Star
- 45:00Speaker 1: Our Game. The last time he played in the game
- 45:02Speaker 1: was twenty nineteen, so that was quite a long time ago.
- 45:05Speaker 1: It will be good to see him. It's always good
- 45:06Speaker 1: to see Mike Trout healthy. It'll be great to see him.
- 45:09Speaker 1: People want to see him. I would love it if
- 45:10Speaker 1: he participated in the home Run Derby, but I would imagine, no, Eka,
- 45:15Speaker 1: you're shaking your head.
- 45:16Speaker 2: No, why is that?
- 45:18Speaker 4: Because I mean, just because he already said it, I
- 45:20Speaker 4: wanted it. I wanted Mike Trout to be in a
- 45:22Speaker 4: home run Derby. I want Christian Walker to be in
- 45:24Speaker 4: the home run derby the Philly guys there, I mean
- 45:27Speaker 4: South Jersey. It's the same thing. And what I really
- 45:30Speaker 4: want to know about Trout playing in this game, which
- 45:32Speaker 4: is unbelievable that he's back and like he's earned it
- 45:35Speaker 4: and he deserves to be there and he's healthy enough
- 45:38Speaker 4: to play, is I wonder how many tickets he's going
- 45:41Speaker 4: to have access to because, as in a Phillies alumni,
- 45:44Speaker 4: I only got two tickets that I had access to,
- 45:48Speaker 4: So I'm not sure if I'm being treated as fairly
- 45:51Speaker 4: as Mike Trout is if he's getting more than two tickets.
- 45:53Speaker 1: I mean a little different career, a little different career.
- 45:56Speaker 1: That's okay, don't be sad.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Don't be sad.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Uh me and Mike Trout. I made the babies before
- 46:03Speaker 4: Mike Trout, So there's that rot.
- 46:06Speaker 3: See what could the Philly Natives fans that are going
- 46:11Speaker 3: to be at the game do to convince Mike Trout
- 46:17Speaker 3: to waive his no claws to come home to Philadelphia
- 46:21Speaker 3: and lay in his hometown because, like he said, his
- 46:24Speaker 3: first All Star game since twenty nineteen, we're talking about
- 46:26Speaker 3: one of the greatest players of all time. I know,
- 46:29Speaker 3: he's an extremely loyal guy and said he's never gonna
- 46:32Speaker 3: leave Anaheim or Los Angeles whatever they call the Angels
- 46:34Speaker 3: now these days. But if there was a place he
- 46:37Speaker 3: was gonna go, he had always talked, Philly would be
- 46:41Speaker 3: the only place he would probably ever go because of
- 46:43Speaker 3: his geography to you know, where he grows up and
- 46:46Speaker 3: where he still makes home. So what could the Phillies do?
- 46:50Speaker 3: How much of a red carpet could they roll out
- 46:52Speaker 3: for him in order to get him to potentially change
- 46:55Speaker 3: his mind.
- 46:56Speaker 4: The Phillies is an organization, don't need to do anything.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Here's what the fans in Philadelphia at the All Star
- 47:04Speaker 4: Game need to do in the city every single time,
- 47:07Speaker 4: every single time he comes up to the plate, they
- 47:11Speaker 4: should not sit down the entire at bat. They should
- 47:14Speaker 4: be cheering. It should be the loudest ovation like playoffs,
- 47:18Speaker 4: because Mike Trout hasn't seen the playoffs since twenty fourteen.
- 47:22Speaker 4: When we when we beat him in three games, it
- 47:25Speaker 4: should be the loudest Philly fans can or should ever be.
- 47:31Speaker 4: And then he'd be like, oh my gosh, this place
- 47:35Speaker 4: is legit, and he'll call Ardie Moreno and go I
- 47:38Speaker 4: don't care what you said before I'm waving it, I
- 47:41Speaker 4: want to go to Philly.
- 47:45Speaker 5: Clip that, clip that.
- 47:49Speaker 3: And then think about think about if they did that
- 47:51Speaker 3: for him. And he feels that, and then when the
- 47:53Speaker 3: Ulster game is over, he hops in his car where
- 47:57Speaker 3: a car takes him not too far to his house
- 48:00Speaker 3: and he's thinking, course, home first, home first, and then
- 48:04Speaker 3: he wakes up in the morning, plays his golf course
- 48:07Speaker 3: and he's like, this is what my life could be.
- 48:09Speaker 3: I know it's extremely hard to leave Newport Beach, and
- 48:12Speaker 3: I've actually been able to go to Mike's house and
- 48:14Speaker 3: see where he lives and Newport it's it's hard to
- 48:18Speaker 3: leave that. But then you figure, man, I can live
- 48:22Speaker 3: at home. I could play at my golf course. I
- 48:25Speaker 3: can like commute to the field every day. This is
- 48:27Speaker 3: one less pack on my family. Not that he's packing
- 48:29Speaker 3: his bags, and I'm sure he has his entire separate
- 48:33Speaker 3: baseball wardrobe and life in Newport, but he can always
- 48:37Speaker 3: go visit Newport in the How great is that too?
- 48:40Speaker 3: He can stay at home and then when the winner
- 48:43Speaker 3: gets real bad and in Jersey, then he just goes
- 48:46Speaker 3: to Newport for for the winner. The best of both
- 48:49Speaker 3: worlds come on make it happen.
- 48:52Speaker 5: This is it.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Come on to step up, step.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Up, and you have to do it.
- 48:55Speaker 4: I'm making sure the people that blast this type of
- 48:58Speaker 4: stuff out. I'm texting the guy who actually started the
- 49:02Speaker 4: he sees this clip because he started the standing ovation
- 49:05Speaker 4: when Trey Turner was terrible. Yes, he's the one that
- 49:09Speaker 4: He's the one that pushed that narrative.
- 49:10Speaker 3: So and okay, we'll go a step further to Mike Trout,
- 49:14Speaker 3: huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. Right, So in the future years
- 49:19Speaker 3: the Phillies the Eagles, they get their schedules aligned, you know,
- 49:22Speaker 3: they figure out how to play night games when the
- 49:25Speaker 3: Phillies are you know, at home on Sundays. He never
- 49:28Speaker 3: misses a game. He just raw all the stops to
- 49:30Speaker 3: get Mike.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Him and Jalen Hurts are living next to each other.
- 49:34Speaker 2: It's big Kumbaya.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Then Mike Trout gets on Avid Elementary with Kyle Schwartz
- 49:38Speaker 1: Barkole saying they're carpolling, their kids are hanging out, they're barbecuing,
- 49:43Speaker 1: all of the things.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Make it happen.
- 49:45Speaker 1: All I care about is Mike Trout on a winning team.
- 49:48Speaker 1: We are was wasting his career, all right, Nationals their stock,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you guys is on the rise.
- 49:54Speaker 2: CJ.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Abrams with home run at number twenty matches a career high,
- 49:58Speaker 1: gives the Nationals a sick to one lead at that moment,
- 50:01Speaker 1: and ties the Nationals with the Yankees for the most
- 50:04Speaker 1: home runs in Major League Baseball. Think about that sentence
- 50:07Speaker 1: for a hot minute. The Yankees and the Nationals are
- 50:11Speaker 1: tied for the most home runs in Major League Baseball.
- 50:15Speaker 1: This from Spencer Nosbamu okay Ek that I don't know
- 50:18Speaker 1: that I ever would have thought I would say that ever.
- 50:24Speaker 4: I mean when the stat came across the board when
- 50:27Speaker 4: we had a production meeting, I was like, for real,
- 50:31Speaker 4: Like I knew they had three guys with twenty plus
- 50:35Speaker 4: home runs, but I wouldn't have said, like the whole team.
- 50:38Speaker 4: It shows you like this team is essentially exactly if
- 50:41Speaker 4: not if it wasn't it was the same team from
- 50:44Speaker 4: last year, and the adjustments that these guys have made.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Maybe it's the technology, Maybe it's the three hit tracks
- 50:52Speaker 4: that they are not hit tracks, trajects, traject systems that
- 50:57Speaker 4: the Nats ownership was willing to spend. That's one point
- 51:00Speaker 4: five million dollars and these players have really adapted to
- 51:04Speaker 4: playing in the big leagues more, and they have clearly
- 51:07Speaker 4: shown that they can do damage at the plate. The
- 51:10Speaker 4: front office had no idea this is what was going
- 51:12Speaker 4: to happen, because if they did have an idea that
- 51:14Speaker 4: the team was going to hit like this, they would
- 51:17Speaker 4: have gone out and spent like some dollars or a
- 51:20Speaker 4: dollar on the pitching staff and not gotten rid of
- 51:23Speaker 4: Mackenzie Gore and not said, Okay, well you know what
- 51:26Speaker 4: we're we're we're moving on here. This is a rebuild.
- 51:29Speaker 4: But most people can't even say until CJ. Abrams had
- 51:32Speaker 4: that home run, who the three guys that have twenty
- 51:35Speaker 4: plus home runs?
- 51:37Speaker 3: Yeah? You know what. I was probably very skeptical of
- 51:42Speaker 3: their hiring of their manager in the offseason. When you
- 51:44Speaker 3: hire a guy this young, who comes from a player
- 51:46Speaker 3: developed background, how are you going to manage people? But
- 51:49Speaker 3: I think the one thing he talked about, and I've
- 51:51Speaker 3: heard him talk on you know, different radio shows. I've
- 51:54Speaker 3: heard him on this show before, is you don't stop
- 51:57Speaker 3: developing at the big league level. Just because you're a
- 51:59Speaker 3: big leader doesn't mean we can't continue to coach you hard.
- 52:02Speaker 3: We can't, you know, make adjustments. We can't do certain
- 52:04Speaker 3: things because a lot of a lot of teams, once
- 52:07Speaker 3: you get to the big leagues, they kind of expect
- 52:09Speaker 3: you to kind of be this product that you are
- 52:11Speaker 3: and then gradually over time you're gonna you know, maybe
- 52:14Speaker 3: evolve or change in a certain thing. But the fact
- 52:17Speaker 3: that they've been able to continue to coach these guys
- 52:19Speaker 3: and work on stuff why they're at the big leagues
- 52:21Speaker 3: and understand they're not finished products. I think we're seeing
- 52:24Speaker 3: this in real time. And I was wrong, you know,
- 52:28Speaker 3: I was skeptical of the higher but clearly it's working.
- 52:30Speaker 3: The fact that you know, they lead the major leagues
- 52:34Speaker 3: and home runs, they're three games out of a wildcard spot.
- 52:37Speaker 3: They have a pitching staff of, you know, a handful
- 52:39Speaker 3: of guys that you probably don't even know their name.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Are they performing better than potentially the front office thought
- 52:46Speaker 3: they would? Probably? Absolutely? Were they maybe a little skeptical
- 52:50Speaker 3: And the fact that these guys would you know, develop
- 52:54Speaker 3: and grow so quickly under this coaching staff, Like Kratzy said,
- 52:58Speaker 3: if they thought all these things what happened so quickly,
- 53:01Speaker 3: they potentially would have gone out and maybe added some
- 53:03Speaker 3: arms on the pitching side. Because what they've been able
- 53:06Speaker 3: to do offensively. Is has kind of been incredible given
- 53:10Speaker 3: the roster of guys that they have.
- 53:12Speaker 2: But you've also mentioned the arms.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Foster Griffin, King nine over seven frames, hasn't allowed more
- 53:17Speaker 1: than one earned run in seven consecutive starts. That ties
- 53:21Speaker 1: a NAT's record. I don't know how much you guys
- 53:23Speaker 1: have seen of Foster Griffin. I haven't seen a ton
- 53:26Speaker 1: of him, but obviously incredibly impressive from what you have seen.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Ek what has impressed you the most about him? About
- 53:32Speaker 1: the way that he goes about it? Because he's putting
- 53:34Speaker 1: up some crazy numbers.
- 53:35Speaker 5: He's a unicorn.
- 53:38Speaker 2: I thought it was show Hey. I thought Show Hey
- 53:40Speaker 2: was the unicorn.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Okay, show Hey is the unicorn. Actually we're just going
- 53:44Speaker 4: to start calling it the show Hey. Now, No, no
- 53:46Speaker 4: longer a unicorn. But okay, how many average white lefties
- 53:51Speaker 4: do you see in the big leagues now? Teams do
- 53:53Speaker 4: not give those guys a chance. He has pitch ability.
- 53:57Speaker 4: He learned incredible balance and and pitch making skills in
- 54:02Speaker 4: Japan that I think he lacked or he said he
- 54:06Speaker 4: lacked when he went over there, and then he developed
- 54:09Speaker 4: that honed that skill and really enabled him to be
- 54:14Speaker 4: the pitcher that he is this year in the big leagues.
- 54:17Speaker 4: And I think it is a prime, prime example of
- 54:21Speaker 4: we get it wrong so many times. Because everybody knows
- 54:24Speaker 4: what the stats are. If you throw ninety to ninety
- 54:28Speaker 4: three miles an hour, batting average against your fastball is
- 54:31Speaker 4: three something. If you throw ninety five to ninety seven,
- 54:36Speaker 4: your batting average is two thirty something. If you throw
- 54:39Speaker 4: ninety seven to one hundred, your batting average is one
- 54:43Speaker 4: thirty or one forty against. I get those numbers, but
- 54:48Speaker 4: not everybody can do that. Not everybody can do it
- 54:50Speaker 4: and stay healthy. And Foster Griffin shows that if you
- 54:53Speaker 4: learn to pitch, if you learn to be able to move,
- 54:56Speaker 4: move your change up to both sides of the plate,
- 54:58Speaker 4: keep the ball down in the zone, run that cutter
- 55:00Speaker 4: in hard, run the velocity up in on your hands
- 55:04Speaker 4: on righties, that you can get a lot of easy outs,
- 55:08Speaker 4: and then you know what's happening. You're attacking the strike zone,
- 55:10Speaker 4: you're ahead, and then you'll get the punch outs because
- 55:12Speaker 4: guys are like, oh, he's gonna come after me, and
- 55:14Speaker 4: then you chase them farther away. He's pitching. It is
- 55:17Speaker 4: a unicorn. It is so much fun to watch. It's
- 55:19Speaker 4: like it's like I'm watching the UH twenty or nineteen
- 55:23Speaker 4: ninety nine playoff game, Like people actually pitch.
- 55:28Speaker 2: Then, why know All Star Game love for him?
- 55:32Speaker 3: Other guys got sex as not sexy. Probably that's why too.
- 55:36Speaker 3: And that's to Crass's point is, you know, we do
- 55:40Speaker 3: want the best players, and he's probably deserving to be there.
- 55:42Speaker 3: But when you turn on the TV, it's a lot
- 55:45Speaker 3: cooler to see a guy throwing ninety eight in All
- 55:47Speaker 3: Star Game than a guy just kind of cutting someone
- 55:49Speaker 3: up by throwing changeups and cutters up and in and
- 55:52Speaker 3: moving it around the zone. And you know, Crutchy, I
- 55:54Speaker 3: don't know, is there statistics out there for like, you know,
- 55:58Speaker 3: I know we have like all these metrics for you know,
- 56:00Speaker 3: velocity and batting average versus stuff, But what are the
- 56:04Speaker 3: statistics of a catcher sets up his glove here and
- 56:06Speaker 3: the guy really doesn't miss it, Like, what what's the
- 56:08Speaker 3: batting average on.
- 56:10Speaker 5: That they're trying to do that.
- 56:13Speaker 4: They're trying to do that, but it was it was
- 56:16Speaker 4: actually a stat that they were trying to do based
- 56:18Speaker 4: on uh not track man Hawkeye. On Hawkeye where the
- 56:22Speaker 4: catcher sets his mid up as the target. But now
- 56:27Speaker 4: no catchers set their mid up as a target.
- 56:29Speaker 5: They just do.
- 56:29Speaker 4: This this, this, this rip, rip rip. Because people say, well,
- 56:35Speaker 4: pitchers don't need a target, Well, you know what. Pitchers
- 56:37Speaker 4: do need a target. They need to hit a target.
- 56:39Speaker 4: And when I watch his games, he clearly is able
- 56:43Speaker 4: to control all four quadrants with multiple pitches, and he
- 56:48Speaker 4: makes a he makes a very comfortable zero for three
- 56:53Speaker 4: for a lot of hitters.
- 56:54Speaker 5: That's the guy.
- 56:55Speaker 4: And I don't know about you, KP, but I can
- 56:57Speaker 4: as soon as somebody says something like that, I'm like, oh,
- 57:00Speaker 4: I remember this.
- 57:00Speaker 5: Guy was that way. That guy was that way.
- 57:02Speaker 4: Because you're so used to you're so ingrained, and I'm
- 57:05Speaker 4: looking up his metrics here, you're so ingrained to say, Okay,
- 57:09Speaker 4: the guy we're facing the day, he sits ninety two
- 57:12Speaker 4: to ninety five, he'll touch ninety seven. Okay, well he
- 57:14Speaker 4: doesn't throw very hard. You're going Foster Griffin's averaging. His
- 57:19Speaker 4: average velocity right now is ninety one zero point six
- 57:25Speaker 4: to right. He's ninety two to lefty, So ninety two
- 57:28Speaker 4: miles an hour is what he averages. So he's gonna
- 57:30Speaker 4: sit eighty eight to ninety three, he touches ninety four,
- 57:36Speaker 4: and you're like, okay, well I can breathe a little bit.
- 57:39Speaker 4: And then the game's over and you've heard the stats.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Seven consecutive games with one one or less earned run.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean I could think of two guys just
- 57:49Speaker 3: off the top of my head, you know, and I
- 57:50Speaker 3: can think of one hundred guys. But I can give
- 57:52Speaker 3: someone that's like still relevant, someone that's you know, recently retired.
- 57:55Speaker 3: But Wade Miley always gave me proms, and when you
- 57:59Speaker 3: look at his you know, numbers on a spreadsheet, you're like, why,
- 58:02Speaker 3: I don't understand, you know, since eighty a little cutter,
- 58:05Speaker 3: a little change up. And then Jose Kintana was another
- 58:07Speaker 3: guy that just gave me problems. And both of these
- 58:09Speaker 3: guys were left handed, which was kind of my m
- 58:12Speaker 3: as a hitter, is that I hit left handed pitching
- 58:14Speaker 3: really well. But for some reason, those guys and their
- 58:19Speaker 3: lack of velocity, their lack of stuff, but their ability
- 58:22Speaker 3: to just throw the ball where they wanted. And those
- 58:24Speaker 3: guys were also really good at reading my swings, like
- 58:27Speaker 3: if I either took a change up on the outer
- 58:29Speaker 3: half or swung at one, they knew how to make
- 58:31Speaker 3: it look like the same one, move it further out.
- 58:33Speaker 3: They just continued to like move my eyes across the plate.
- 58:36Speaker 3: And those guys always gave me challenges.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Add this to the things I would absolutely never do.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Kevin Palar flying in the sky, amazing experience with two
- 58:56Speaker 1: of my brothers, And yes I was terrified, Amvi, And
- 58:59Speaker 1: yes I would never let go of the rope on
- 59:01Speaker 1: the CN Tower up there.
- 59:03Speaker 2: Tail Less about that experience, well.
- 59:06Speaker 3: Anna, I was much like you. I would have never
- 59:09Speaker 3: done it. I would have never volunteered, although it was
- 59:12Speaker 3: a volunteer position. But the Blue Jays had reached out
- 59:16Speaker 3: to me and a couple of my teammates from that era.
- 59:18Speaker 3: They were celebrating the fifty years of the Blue Jays
- 59:22Speaker 3: organization on Canada's Day. It happens to be the CN
- 59:25Speaker 3: Tower's fiftieth year as well, so they thought connecting the
- 59:29Speaker 3: two was a great idea. And I was very hesitant
- 59:33Speaker 3: to say yes because I'm not a heightsky. I understand
- 59:37Speaker 3: how insane it sounds to climb up on that tower volunteer,
- 59:42Speaker 3: but I treated it like they put a gun to
- 59:43Speaker 3: my head. And I had no chose that I was
- 59:45Speaker 3: going to be letting the fan base down that I
- 59:47Speaker 3: was going to be letting the girls behind the scenes
- 59:49Speaker 3: that were reaching out that are near dear friends to
- 59:53Speaker 3: me and my wife. So I said, yes, I would
- 59:55Speaker 3: do it. I went up there. The anticipation killed me.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: When I walked out there. Though the view is incredible,
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: I was very terrified. The closer I was to the
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: actual tower, I was okay, but as I started inching
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: out on that platform, I was terrified. The view is incredible.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: If you were a person like me who's afraid of heights,
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: there is a way that you can do it, go
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: up there, and the equipment is so safe. They've been
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: doing it for you know, I think eighteen years. That day.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: I had asked them how many people have gone up?
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: They said sixty. How many people came down? They said sixty,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: And that's kind of their number, one hundred percent over
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: the eighteen years that they've done it, So it is
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: very safe. You're putting a lot of trust in a
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: safety harness a rope. That rope does hold seven tons,
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: by the way, they told us that. But Marco and
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Marco Strada and Justin Smoke were definitely more brave than me.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: They were a little bit more adventurous up there. But
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: to look down in that open roof on Canada Day,
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: say all that read see that giant Canadian flag out there.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: They had us kind of way during the national anthems.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: As you could tell. My two buddies up there, two
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: hands off the rope waving, They're a lot closer to
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: the edge. I'm in a power stance, one foot closer
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: to the back edge, holding on the road. So that's
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: what I could do. But I will tell you I
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: would probably do it again, and I would be a
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: little bit more adventurous. I don't know if I would
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: go toes over the edge, face down. Both of those
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: guys went toes heels over the edge, leaned back, took
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: their hands off. It looked like an amazing experience. I
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: just needed probably a little bit more time to warm
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: up to the idea of being up there. But I'm
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: glad I did it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: It gives me chills. There's no way in the world.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: Good for you.
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: It is.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Uh Yeah, Like I said, I think if you had
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: the mindset like I had to, and I was fortunate
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: I knew about it for like a month and I
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: was there three weeks prior with my wife and kids,
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: and we went up and I was only inside. I
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: never went outside, but I was warming up to the idea.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: I started like standing on the sea through glass down there,
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: like glad you could do this. I started like looking
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: over the deck looking out the glass and be like, oh,
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: it's not that bad, but nothing prepares you for when
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: they open those sliding doors and you're walking out there.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: It happened to be a little bit of a windy
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: day too, so like that also added the fear to
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: it a little bit too. But I'm here to tell
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: the story, and every single person that's been out there
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: is here to tell the story. So it is safe.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: You just have to put a lot of trust in
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: the equipment.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Andy Carnival in our chat said the sea and tower
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: is five hundred and twelve meters high. I have not
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: fact checked that, but let's just assume it is five
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: hundred and twelve meters high. That happens to be you guys,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: basically sixteen hundred and eighty feet off of the ground
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: is where Kevin Pollar was good for you.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Don't quote me on it. I do know it's I
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: know it's over thirteen hundred feet off the ground. I
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: don't know if it's quite that tall, but at the
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: time it was one of the tallest free standing structures
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: in the world. I think Kratzy's probably looking up the
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: numbers right now, but it's very high up there.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's definitely high. Whether it's thirteen hundred or
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: sixteen hundred, that is high.
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Apparently it's five hundred and fifty three point thirty three meters.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: That's eighteen hundred and fifteen point five feet the tallest
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere. Mercy, good, good on you,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Kevin Plar. All right, Kratz, Are we talking about your hat?
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Is it time for Kratz hats or do you have
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: a story?
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: We are talking about my hat. We are talking about
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: my hat, and we're going to talk about my hat
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: while we show the videos that I sent in. I
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: have two boys ones nineteen freshman in college and no
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: and this is the nineteen year old first at bat
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: of the game. He hits a dinger. I got to
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: play in a game with both of them, so he
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: hit a ding a. That's our oldest. This is my
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: fat butt getting a knock my first ab Okay, so
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: now we're both one for one, and then my younger
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: son who's seventeen, comes up right after me and hits
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: a dinger, so we ended up going on the day.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: We won the game. I caught all seven innings and
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: we scored four runs and three of them were by
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: the Cratzes. So it was a cool opportunity to be
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: able to play in a game. I haven't played in
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: a game since we played. I guess I did play
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: in an alumni game. But I want to thank the
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: This is Perky Homan Valley Twilight League. It's Tamenson Bats
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: and the Crowley family affording us the opportunity. There's seasons
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: almost over, and they said, hey, would you be willing
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: to do this? And both my boys were like, I
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: would love to play because we've never played in a
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: game together and to go out there and do it.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: And you know what, I came one pitch away from
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: calling a no hitter. So we had a seven innings
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: and the pitcher gave up a home run.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: As much as he got pulled out of the game,
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: they did they leave the picture in. Was there any
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: conversation in the dugout of pulling the picture?
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: It was they were never they were never taking them out.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: My guy, my guy also named Eric, stayed in the
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: game threw a one hitter, so I got to catch
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: all seven innings. It was epic to be able to
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: do that with my sons, and to be able to
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: be on the same field compete. It was so so
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: much fun. And I'm so glad I don't play baseball
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: anymore because they threw me no They threw me no fastballs.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: The only fastball they threw me was that one I
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: got a base hit on, and then I had to
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: fight off a slider for another line drive base hit.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: But I mean only a single though. You couldn't get
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: any two baggers, no doubles. Leg it out of a.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Lot of these legs were running. They were not running fast,
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: but these legs were running like I was. I was
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: impressed with my running ability.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: And that's it.
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: Like I told my son, the one, the second one,
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: the younger one, I knew he was hitting behind me.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: I said, if I score from first on a double
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: by you, you are never going to hear the end
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: of it. So that's why I'm think of all like
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: fifteen feet over the fence.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: He was sprinting out of.
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: The box, which, by the way, he plays center field.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: KP gave him his glove. Dude, that's awesome making making legends.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Look at that. Just it all comes full circle. Put
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: a bow on that.
