[upbeat rock music] Hello, radio listener.
• 0:19
It's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 132. Whoa. 130... No quippy remark for 132? [laughs] Yeah, I was, I, I was thinking. I was like, "One, four." One, two. Something. I don't know. So, uh, yeah, 132.
• 0:37
Uh, we're in the, we're in the new studio here at 830 East Keith in Milwaukee. Kind of got power now. Sorta, kinda got power. Yeah. Sorta, kinda. That's nice. Did a good job. Yeah.
• 0:50
And it actually makes the gizmos work- Yeah... without batteries and whatnot. [laughs] And extension cords. And extension cords, which were very much of a hazard. Right. So, yeah.
• 1:02
So things are coming together a little bit and, uh- Professionality is imminent... we, we will be making with the noise making. Uh, got, uh, JK over there. Oh, hey. A newly, a newly sober JK.
• 1:18
[laughs] Ah. And Tony. Moments of clarity, I tell you. Across the table over there, sipping down a... Well, the pre-show beer. Pre-show beer. Pre-show beer is, uh, Point's- It's not really beer... Point's...
• 1:29
What is it called? Some- I know... something, it's like Fruity Pebbles or some such. But avoid. Point Hazy Pebbles- Hazy Pebbles-... Fruity Haze... Fruity, Hazy Milkshake IPA. Beer with natural flavors added.
• 1:43
In other words, not beer. Well, that's what I got, is the not beer, technically. [laughs] JK, JK will be, will be be, will be becoming a non-alcoholic beer connoisseur once he- Oh, yes. Yes.
• 1:55
I had to lean in, but we're not at the show beer part yet. Right. No, and, and- Nope... and, and T Burger made a very good point that if this Point isn't actually beer, we can't have it be a show beer, so.
• 2:05
Right, right, right. We'll, we'll introduce the show beer a little bit later. [laughs] Um, I, before I forget, I have to tell you that, um, both fortunately and unfortunately, I will not be at the show next week.
• 2:19
Um- There you go. Tony's making noises with his thing. There you go. There we go. There we go. So I will not be able to attend next week's cast of pods. Oh, okay. Well... Um, [sighs] for some reason,
• 2:30
someone was willing to spend 30 years of their life with me, so- Oh... I'm going out on our anniversary. By cracky, that sounds like a very good idea. That would do it. Yeah. Congrats on 30. So,
• 2:41
October 6th, my mom's 96th birthday, if all goes well. Well, it'll still be her 96th birthday whether or not she's here. Um, so- Well, let's hope so, 'cause, uh- Yeah... having, having your- Absolutely...
• 2:51
having your fam around is a good thing. Yeah. So, but yeah. Shout out to Molly. Yeah. Lady Pope. Lady Pope. [laughs] Pope. Pope. I- exci-. So, uh, I don't know.
• 3:06
We got, we got stuff on the talking smack part of the thing this week. We got, we got no more Commander Cody. I'm so bummed about that. [sighs] It's a bummer. He's, he's got the big hot rod Lincoln in heaven right now.
• 3:18
Oh, man. I, uh, uh, didn't really listen to him a lot, but always w- when I'd hear a song that I didn't know and then it was like, "Oh, that was Commander Cody," I'm like, "Oh, that was Commander Cody? I don't know."
• 3:28
Two grilled cheese and an order of fries. Yeah, stems and seeds and stems. I don't... What the... Something, something, something. How old was he? 77, I believe. Oh, s- it's not bad, right?
• 3:39
But, uh, yeah, no more, no more Commander. Oh. JK can have a playlist for us a little bit later. RIP, brother. Yeah, so, um, we... Saturday- Oof... Saturday was a long day. Holy cow.
• 3:55
And so much fun- It was-... considering not much biking. Uh, well- It was still fun... not much, not much biking by you. [laughs] Well, yeah. There is that.
• 4:05
So the, the first part of the day was the, uh, Battle at the Brewery Strongman Competition, which I've never seen one live before. Mm. It was very entertaining. It was freaking awesome.
• 4:15
And- Yeah, and I, I, I, I wanted to get there earlier than what later could construe, because it was hard to... I mean, I... It's like, uh, what... Do you even look up? How long does, does one of these- Right... last?
• 4:30
It's all timed. Yeah. It, it- I mean, I could extrapolate a little bit of it, but I was like, "Eh." You know- I'd like to catch that... there were- Which was also part of the, uh, drunken downfall of the day- Yeah.
• 4:41
[laughs] Oh [laughs]... as well. Because when you're sitting there for a few hours and drinking the big beers- Well-... even the little big beers- What I learned- [laughs]...
• 4:49
what I learned was the Pilsner that they have, the Deck Dog- Black Hu-... is actually- At Black Husky... at Black Husky, is actually quite delicious, and considerably less alcohol, if you believed him- Sure...
• 5:01
than what he lists the other beers at. I had the Gose- And I, I had some-... the Spruced Gose, which- Right. Yeah... it was good. And it was down in the fours. Well- There-... it was listed down in the fours.
• 5:12
[laughs] I, I, yeah, exactly. I, I will say there were some strong human beings there. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it was, it was super cool. There's at, at least, I think there's different versions of these things- Yeah...
• 5:23
and I think that this one was, uh, a very entertaining version of one. I, I don't remember how many competitors there were, 15 or 18 maybe- Something about that... somewhere in there. Yeah, yeah.
• 5:32
Four ladies and some dudes, and they had different classes and whatnot. And most of the stuff goes really fast, 'cause most of it you only have 60 seconds to do. Right. So it, it, it moves along at a pretty good pace.
• 5:45
And I did take a lot of photos. Uh- Yes, you did... culled, I culled it down into 160 or something that are- You were documenting. Yeah. Doing a big documenting.
• 5:56
And put it on the, um, I put it on the Flickr, so I'll have a link for that in the show notes if you wanna- Check out some photos of a strongman competition here in Milwaukee action It was definitely worth the, uh, worth, worth the visit.
• 6:09
It was fun. Yeah, I would do it again. I- Yeah...
• 6:11
uh, you know, trying to photograph it, uh, 'cause I told Tim and Tony I'd do that, and, uh, never having done one, I was like, "I don't know exactly where the right spot's where the action's gonna be," so I kinda had to watch and go like, "Oh, that looks like a good spot to be.
• 6:24
Oh, wait- Yeah... I'm gonna get a tire on me." Yeah. Can't be there. [laughs] Or whatever, but yeah. That was a big tire. And there's, there's a lot of heavy stuff, you know, slamming down- Flying around...
• 6:33
and flying around. Yeah And it's like I don't wanna be where that heavy stuff is, especially sitting on the ground or something dumb like that, so.
• 6:37
The, the guys carrying those whatever, logs or whatever Sam called them, at 290 a piece. The farm- Oh, the farmer, the farmer logs. Yeah. Yeah, the guys who keep on carrying 290 in each arm. Yeah. I know.
• 6:47
I just, my arms would just rip off and there'd be, like, blood squirting everywhere out of my arm maybe. Well, I don't know how you can, yeah, be, like, dragging them on the ground- Right...
• 6:52
'cause your, your arms would stretch out so much. Right. Yeah, even in the descriptions of like, "Oh, this is what they're gonna do- Mm-hmm... and this is at the weight."
• 6:58
And I'm, like, just having, like, sympathy back pain just- Who-... like, listen, I'm like, "Oh, ow, what the-" The guy that hoisted the boulder up on his shoulder. [laughs] Yeah, he's like a pro guy.
• 7:07
A stone, and that was, like, what? Two- 300 and something. Three- Was it over 3? It was, like, 350 or 375. Yeah. He was one of the, the big pro-y type guys there. Yeah. He's, he's definitely one of the heavyweights.
• 7:18
Whoa. Sam said he's one of the, one of the strongest guys in the biz. That was- And you know, it's not like weightlifting. It's not just about getting something off the ground. Form.
• 7:26
It's more somewhat more athletic I think almost. Yeah. I don't know. Anyway. It was, it's training. It's form. Yeah, you should've been there. Next time you can come. So it's been, uh, we...
• 7:37
It's b- it was a beautiful day today. Yeah. Holy, holy crikey it was nice out there. Yeah. Um, but we're at that shoulder season where it's, like, between shorts and, and long pants. Mm-hmm.
• 7:47
[laughs] Who's got, who's got the long pants on today? I do. I have them. I think we all have the long pants on today. And I, I wear long pants all the time though. Yeah. Do you? I am not much for short pants.
• 7:55
What, with your bird legs and all? Yeah. Right. Chicken legs. Chicken legs.
• 7:58
Plus, yeah, and I've got some, some war, war wounds upon the legs that- Well, certainly happens more often with shorts on than with long pants on. Yeah, yeah.
• 8:07
I mean, ev- even whacking your leg with a, with a metal pin BMX pedal with pants on [laughs] is a lot less- Oh, shit. That's what I-... painful than-... uh, yeah, as I was locking up.
• 8:15
That w- [laughs] that was my little belting cry was like, "And- Spin it around and whack- Ah... whack the back of your leg or hit the shin or- Right in the shin. Yep.
• 8:24
That's where the, that's where my beauty pageant is on both legs right now. [laughs] So I- There's, like, seven divots in each leg... I've been wearing some cycling specific pants for quite a while and, uh,
• 8:36
I had, I loved the old school Levi's commuters, the first- Those are cool... the first generation of them. Yeah. Then they came out with a second generation. Didn't like them as much, but I found Swerve.
• 8:45
I really like Swerve pants. Those are very nice pants. They're very nice and, uh, that's what I've been, uh, that's what I'm sporting right now is some Swerves. Ooh. Ah. But they have a real... They're really tough.
• 8:54
Like, if you fall down and you slide on the ground, they really don't wear through the first couple times you do that. That's key.
• 9:00
Yeah, 'cause you don't wanna- As a guy who's just had some recent road rash because I was wearing pants and it wore right through them instantly. [laughs] Well, at 100 bucks a throw or whatever they cost- Right...
• 9:09
you w- you don't wanna wear them out right away when you fall the first time. Right. But, uh- I know. I, I ended up getting these 10, 10 buck a pair Izod kinda water repellent-ish- This sounds like Costco...
• 9:23
and I'm trying it. Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] Totally. And it was just like- JK's a big Costco pants guy... I know. Am I, I'm, yeah, on occasion.
• 9:28
I, I on occasion- They're normally only good for about nine months- Yeah, but-... before they fray out, but it's a good nine months... which is a terrible environmental concern, but who cares? Sure. Goddamn $59 pants.
• 9:36
Sure. Well, you can dona- you can donate them to Goodwill even if they have holes in them. Yeah. Right. It just kinda worked out in that... Did we just mood light? Yeah. I don't know. Something happened.
• 9:43
Something just changed. [laughs] Something changed. Wow. That's cool. The lights totally just changed in here. Oh, did you have that monitor on? Oh, no. I don't know. Something's going on. That's not the lizards.
• 9:50
I'm not sure what it is. It's, it's, uh, it's the growing pains of the new studio. We'll- [laughs]...
• 9:55
uh, w- the lights are, like, shining against the wall because they're so bright I don't want them in our faces, but someday they will be up on the ceiling where they belong- That'd be neat...
• 10:03
or s- some other light will be up there. Um, Costco, last year Tony and I got some, um, uh... What were they? Eddie Bauer. Yeah, the he... I love those things.
• 10:12
They're like, uh, a, a fleece lined winter pants, and they were very reasonably priced and- Oh, sure. They were less than 20 bucks and I- Yeah... they wear like steel.
• 10:20
I've, I mean, I don't, I didn't probably wear them more than a dozen times, but- They've-... that'll extend the life of them a couple years. Right. Yeah, they're fantastic pants.
• 10:29
Yeah, these ones, I, I mean, it was just f- you know, I got two pair of them because what the hell? Two, 20 bucks. Right. Right. All right.
• 10:35
And, and they're, they f- fucking, I mean, they feel like, uh, like sweatpants or house pants. Got a little stretch to them. Yeah. And I mean, they look like kinda d- not dress, but whatever, jean-ish. Uh, yeah.
• 10:48
Like a, kind of a jean- Enough to work... yeah. Yeah. And I was just like, "Oh, hey," but it's like I'm just hanging out in, uh, you know, my, in my nice comfy house pants. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah.
• 10:58
So, you know, you can go to your bike shop, you can get your fancy bike clothes, which the Swerves have the, the gut- the crotch gusseted so you're not sitting on the seam, which- Yep, big deal... I like a lot.
• 11:07
That's nice If I could find less expensive pants that were made that way, I'd be like, "Yeah, boy." Yeah. Understood. Yeah. That, that just needs to be a seed planted for that.
• 11:16
These suckers don't have the pocketry or- Right. And it's like that...
• 11:19
what- whatever kinda or deepness of things, like, where you have certain things that are in pockets that you feel like are gonna fall out at any moment and you're just- Right...
• 11:28
[laughs] hoping for the resistance of ass cheek and the stitching to hold. [laughs] Speak, speak, speaking of, uh, speaking of throwing out at any moment- [laughs]... uh, today going to pick up the girl.
• 11:39
Uh, Daniel was in the backseat of the car, which I don't know if I've mentioned this, I have signed the paperwork. Daniel's officially Daniel Matthias Berger. So he has a- Right on... legitimate new name.
• 11:51
He is legitimately, like, no one can take him away from me now. He decided his really cool Kool Canteen stainless steel sippy cup needed to get launched out the window today. On, on, on, on- In Wood- in Shorewood...
• 12:05
underway in the vehicle? In the vehicle in Shorewood. All of a sudden I hear this clink, clink, clink, clink. I'm like, "Miley." He just pitched his water bottle.
• 12:13
And sure enough, I got out of the car at a stoplight, walked back a half a block. S- it, it, it's a Klean Kanteen, [laughs] so it is totally fine. Oh.
• 12:23
[laughs] And it bounced, like, eight times, but it's, it's like, that's a good quality product, man. Yeah, they make good stuff. Yeah. They make good, good product. Now it's a Weeble, though. It wobbles?
• 12:34
It just goes back and forth when you set it down. [laughs] He loves it. He loves it even more. I'm like, "All right, kid, you win." It's like, "This was all what I want. This is exactly what I wanted." [laughs] Yeah.
• 12:44
This, I knew how to do this. JK threw in the notes, um, uh, our local Oak Leaf Trail, which started out as the... In 1976 it started out as a 76-mile trail for the centenni- bi- bi- the bicentennial. Nice.
• 12:59
And I think it's closer to 100 now, or better. But we've had this sinkhole situation going north out of Milwaukee for quite a while. It's, like, couple years at least. Yeah, that Johnson Controls- Yes.
• 13:10
Yeah And it's right, it, it affects the trail, so you kinda have to get off your bike and go around it.
• 13:15
Or technically speaking, I don't even think we're supposed to ride there any- It was shortly after they completed the- Extension, right? Yeah, the bridge over the- Yeah... Milwaukee River.
• 13:26
And so it was, like, that first year or something, like, oh, we could go all the way to Thirsty Fox, and Brown Deer, and da-da-da. And Port Washington and- And Port Washington and-...
• 13:34
Harrington Meet, and points very far north, actually. Yes. Right. Yeah. But I j- I recall that being one of the first times going, [laughs] just looking at it going, "That doesn't look good."
• 13:45
It's- And then it was like the next week it looked 10 times worse, and it was like, oh, this could end very, very, very, very poorly. Uh, it's very dangerous. Yeah. Well, there's some kinda...
• 13:55
Is it, is, there's water underneath it that must be doing something. I don't- It's a culvert or something that's co- Yeah, I'm not sure if that culvert's actually a drainage-... that's collapsing. Yeah.
• 14:01
Culvert or collapsing. So if it collapses, then essentially it's gonna just invoke a bunch of flooding in the area, and, like, whatever houses are down in that little zone are- Mm.... not gonna have a good time.
• 14:12
Pricey houses. I, I actually almost bought a house. That's Marne Avenue down there? I almost bought a house on that street. Mm.
• 14:17
I thought it was cool because it, it, the yards are really long and they butt up against the old railroad track, which is now the bike trail. But it's- Yeah, that is cool.
• 14:24
There's probably 20-plus feet of elevation up to- Yeah... the, where the track would've been. Right. So you had this nice hill in your backyard.
• 14:31
You get out your AK and you can shoot up your hill and stuff back there in your backyard if you want. You could have some sweet jumps. Yeah, you could do that too, I guess. But why wouldn't you shoot your AK?
• 14:39
'Cause I don't have an AK for starters. 'Cause today was a good day. I didn't even have to use my AK. Didn't have to use my AK. Right on. So yeah, um, well, that should be apparently getting f- at least somewhat fixed.
• 14:51
It, I don't know if this, th- th- This could be a band-aid. It's not, it's not a- Yeah, I don't know if the resolution is actually what it really needs.
• 14:56
It probably needs some sort of, um, sub-grade reinforcing steel or b- they should make- Yeah... a bridge over it or something. Yeah, exactly. Just bridge it. That's what I was thinking earlier.
• 15:05
But at least, at least we won't have that, um, uh, impediment on our rides north, hopefully coming up pretty soon. Right, right. 'Cause I've never taken the detour. I've just done the cyclocross. Yeah, cyclocrossed it.
• 15:18
Just jump around it, you know? Yeah. Right, right. Yeah. For sure. I mean, you can get around it, but- But apparently they're fixing or repairing the sidewalks that are part of the conduit of the detour.
• 15:28
So it's like you're going from that detour into another detour, and then I think you're just, like, sitting on, in the middle of the fricking street for, like, a half a block [laughs] or something like that. Right.
• 15:38
And that's not, like, the cherry area of- Ding, it's time to change stations over at the old- Yeah, the old dropout... Dropout Fight Club. [laughs] They're having their, uh, their Wednesday night, um- Sing Dong Fest.
• 15:49
It's like a, it's, they're not fighting per se, but they're doing workouts- Station, circ-... in a- I guess circuit... fighting style. It's a c- Yeah, it's good...
• 15:55
it's a, it is like a boxing gym with, with big, big bags. Circuit. Circuit kind of- Boxes... training and- Boxes... I was noticing that Maybe jumping of the rope and, uh, such. But it, it, it is a cool...
• 16:05
If you're in Milwaukee, stop by and see it because it looks like a 1950s old school Sonny Liston or whenever he was from, kind of a, you know, you got, "Hey, hey, get up in the ring then." Yeah. Yeah.
• 16:17
"I'm gonna make you"- What is it? What? "Eat, eat lightning and crap thunder, you bum." Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, you can just see it. I, I think he's actually had a couple movie- [laughs]...
• 16:28
studios or some such in there already filming because it's, it looks authentic. It's definitely cool. You should check it out. I think he has power, which is good. [laughs] He's had power before we did. It's okay.
• 16:42
Um, but yeah, they're, they're, uh, they, they do a high energy workout over there at the old, uh, Dropout Fight Club. Oh. What? Going, going. Ding, ding, ding, ding. What, what, what, what? Oh, oh, there it is.
• 16:52
All right. Okay. Okay. Okay, Mi- Mike. Okay. [bell ringing] We have made it to the top of the hill. We, we have made it to the top of the hill. We didn't, we, we didn't forget the bell. Um,
• 17:04
today's show beer, which is actually beer- Yeah... not whatever Tony called this other stuff, which has some beer in it. It's not beer. It has at least- It's not beer... some beer in it of some such.
• 17:15
Well- But, uh, this is, uh-... it's close as shit, but- Well, in, in, you know, I know we m- This-... I know we mentioned, uh-... this though... we mentioned Chewy last week- Wow...
• 17:23
with his show t- it, with, uh, sh- Chewy's Salon Chair 10B because 10A, Spinner's dog ran out the door and they had to go chase it down, so they had to s- restart when they got back. [laughs] Nice.
• 17:35
[laughs] But, uh, Toppling Goliath is in Decorah, where they recorded that show. Wow. And also, I just wanted to make a minor correction. I'm not saying you're wrong, Chewy, but the- Mm...
• 17:42
the bar is called The Swinging Door, not the Stage door. In Milwaukee? Yeah, that we went- He called it the Stage Door?... that we went to during, um, during- Ah, Chewy... uh, Steel Is Real.
• 17:52
We, we, or whenever we went there. Sometime that weekend, which is a blur. And I, I did apologize to Mike and Berta 'cause I think, I don't know, Steel Is Real was a little bit of a shit show. Yeah.
• 18:04
That was, that was fine. Everybody had a good time- Yeah... that I know, but some people want a little bit different experience, and we should've given that to them [laughs]
• 18:11
rather than making them live through our drunken lens. But- Right, right. Yeah... um- It just, yes... next year I think it'll work out all right. Anyway, so the s- Toppling. So- Living and learning. Yeah, right.
• 18:19
So the Toppling Goliath is their Intergalactic Warrior- [laughs]... which has galaxy and warrior hops in it. Um, it isn't super boozahol-y. It's like 6.3, and I don't know if they lie like Tim, but- [laughs]...
• 18:32
my guess is not quite as much. Mm. Ooh. So I had to take a big old swig of that. That's- It's so good when it hits your lips... that's freaking delicious. [laughs] Well, you just had a...
• 18:47
Ton- Tony just had a pseudo sue over at our local, uh, whole- Whole Paycheck, man... Pay, whole Paycheck store because they reopened the bar area again. Yeah, five bucks on Tuesdays.
• 18:55
For a pi- for a pint- For a pseudo sue... of pseudo sue. A pint of pseudo sue. I think this- Tapped... this four-pack of 16 ounce cans was, like, 13 bucks. Right.
• 19:04
So n- none of the TG stuff is inexpensive, but it's dang good. It's always good. Dang good. We gotta go to Decorah and do a brewery tour. I'm going off mic to drink. [laughs] Off mic. What? No. What? What?
• 19:19
He's off, off microphone- [laughs]... to s- to, to slam the sue, not, not... The, uh, Intergalactic Warrior, sorry. Ah. That's good stuff. That's powerful stuff right there. That is delicious. That's really good stuff.
• 19:29
Yeah, they're- That's good stuff right there. I'm, I'm, uh... You know, I know SingleSpeed USA is there next year, but
• 19:35
I might just have to go and just stay at toppling, Toppling Goliath the whole time and just be like, "What? What? There's a bike race?" [laughs] "What? Really?"
• 19:44
Well, the one thing about TG is it's at the top of the hill. Top of the hill. I mean, literally at the top of a- See?... two mile long, 500-foot elevation hill. Ooh. It's pretty good, pretty good. It's- You gotta crank.
• 19:53
The good thing is they have a shuttle running from downtown Decorah up to TG, so you don't have to do it on your bike if you don't want to.
• 20:01
[laughs] That said, I think we should go pre-game that town because it's a, it's a, it's a great place. Does the shuttle have the availability of bringing your bike up? I do not know that.
• 20:11
I've never ridden the shuttle, because originally their first two locations were downtown on the flats down by the river. Just saying, that's a... Coming from the top of the hill- Well, yeah...
• 20:19
would be a little more enjoyable. Yeah, 'cause it's right- I mean, you didn't earn it, but whatever. Well, it's right up by the airport at the top of the hill, and, and- It's like, I can-...
• 20:25
I, seriously, it's two or two and a half miles downhill. You could easily, even on a State Bicycles clunker, which theoretically I'm getting my Yellowstone edition- Nice... two days ago. [laughs] Really?
• 20:38
Um, I w- w- after the last show, we went to, uh, Bremen Cafe, one of our local pubberies, and I rode one over there. I'm like, "Ah, this is great. This is awesome." There. "I, I love this thing."
• 20:51
And then, um, Saturday... Where the hell did we go on Saturday? We rode, we rode to f- after the, um- Uh, Lily padded to Nomad to Tonic to see the exotics. Right, right, right, to see the exotics. Da, da, da, da, da.
• 21:04
And then- And then we got surf rockin'... and then we went over to... I don't know if you went over to City Lights for their fifth anniversary party. No. I think you, you bailed. Yes. Okay.
• 21:12
Yeah, Zito and I went over there- [laughs]... for- Well, figuratively and- For-... uh, literally. Oh boy. Yes. For De La Buena. Ah, yeah, yeah. I believe was playing there, so. Oh, right, right, right.
• 21:21
And then, uh, yeah, so that day, uh, I was riding the, the handsome shop bike, which I'm just... I'm a... We're, we're... I'm gonna be a coaster brake guy for a while, 'cause both of those are awesome. Yeah. They are.
• 21:34
And I got an update from, uh, Chella Money about, about one of his fancy hubs, and I put it on my 135 bike, and there's so much torque on that torque arm that it ended up wrapping it around, and on steel is real.
• 21:46
Spinner actually broke it- Yeah... so we had to try to fix it. But apparently Chell's making some chrome moly version of a torque arm for 135 bikes.
• 21:56
I don't know if it's gonna be longer so it can go further up and meet up with where the frame is narrowing, 'cause that would be really cool, uh- Yeah... or it's just a much stronger material or what the case is.
• 22:06
But if you're trying to convert a 135 bike, it's a little bit of a challenge unless you can actually weld something on there to hold that torque arm in the proper position.
• 22:14
Uh, so I think that wheel set may end up on either the shop bike- Yeah... or one of these. It's probably one of the State bikes, 'cause they're 27.5 tires anyway.
• 22:25
So I may put it on my Yellowstone bike and make that my city, my city crawler. That'd be fun. Oh. Yeah. I already... I...
• 22:33
[laughs] Since, since the, uh, since the, the Schlick coaster brake bike, which is really a single speed, which I'll probably turn it back into a disc brake single speed mountain bike, um, wasn't using its seat, I now have a 1995 Dean titanium seat post on my State bicycle.
• 22:51
[laughs] Which means the seat post is worth, like, m- more than half of what the bike cost. [laughs] Oh, I'll bet you now, given the age of that, it's probably worth as much as what the bike cost. Good then.
• 23:01
Yeah, I wonder what that, uh, classic stuff goes for, because, uh, I could always buy more stuff, but y- you can't make crap that was made, you know, in 1995 anymore. True. On a Kona that was 26 years ago. Yeah. Yeah.
• 23:13
And the seat is s- I use that seat post on almost every one of my favorite bikes if they can take a 27.2 post. Yeah, of course.
• 23:20
So it, it's, it's either that or the Mooots Layback that I have, too, but that- Al- also sexy... that Dean is the sh- the shiznizzle. Also sexy, though. Yeah, but you can still get those. Yeah.
• 23:31
So it's not like y- it, it's not a, it's not something that they don't make anymore. Oh, man. On a similar note, [clears throat] I was audience today at work. I arrived at the same time that my boss does,
• 23:45
and he rides in a good, I don't know, 15, 20 miles- Yeah, it's a cruise out to the-... out west... the west side of town Yeah. So at some point during that, his saddle [pops lips] popped off of his, uh, seat post.
• 24:01
Uh, okay. And I mean, this has happened to me on my Kona, which is... It was weird, because it's like, "Well, how the hell did that happen?" And then whatever.
• 24:10
And to do it yourself, to try to get it in there is impossible. It's impossible. Is it the, the, the rails popped off the saddle? Yes, exactly. Yeah. Yeah, no. I mean, I, I, I- I think they have really-...
• 24:19
if you have a vice, maybe I think they have really big machines that do a lot of, uh- I think-... pressure and bending to do that... like a... Exactly. So, I don't know. He did a couple miles, [laughs]
• 24:32
made it to work Just riding standing up. Okay. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He's like, "I'm probably gonna have to just ride as far as I can to get to the bus and then take that out."
• 24:43
And I'm like, "Well, okay, if you're gonna ride..." You know, I offered it up.
• 24:47
I'm like, "If you just fly over to Dream Bikes, you probably could just do a quick, you know, five, $10 replacement, just jam it in there and get your ass home- Sure, sure... and then redo," you know?
• 24:59
But no, a little headstrong. He's like, "I'm gonna... No, I figured it out. I'm gonna, I'm gonna ride all the way home with no seat."
• 25:06
Well, he pulled out the seat post, and it was, like, th- this is a bike, a Peugeot, that he got when he was 16. [laughs] And he's like- And he's like 95 now?... f- uh, 50. Yeah, he's like late 50s. Okay.
• 25:16
He's 58, so it's like a good 40-year-old bike. And he, he's like, "You know what? You know, this is the first time I've ever taken this out." And it came out? Yeah. 'Cause- Well, I think it was- Mm-hmm...
• 25:26
in storage for a good decade- I don't know, 'cause-... or two or something like that... yeah, yeah. Well, I mean- But I don't know if that ha- would have any impact on it. Grease your seat post, folks.
• 25:32
Maybe it was greased real well. Yeah. Yeah. Because even, even on the... So we s- we sold one of the, uh, um... I only have one left now, the Teasdale BMX bike.
• 25:41
So we, we have one frame left, but the orange one went away, and it's going to Kansas City. It's on a FedEx truck right now. Kansas City, Kansas? But, but that... Kansas City, Missouri. Okay. Just making sure.
• 25:52
And, um- [laughs] Just came up in conversation. Or Omaha or somewhere. C- it's out th- I think it's Omaha, actually. No, it's Kan- whatever. It's out that way somewhere.
• 25:59
Um, and when, uh, Steven was boxing the thing up, he's like, "Oh, dude, the seat post deceased." I'm like, "Get out of here. We grease every seat post all the time." He's like, "Oh." So, um- It gave...
• 26:10
it, it did end up giving. We'd croiled it for a little bit just to maybe get it started at the top, but it, it... What had happened was... So, so what had happened [laughs] was, was the...
• 26:21
It, it's been around for a while. I think it's, like, six or seven years old. Um- Mm-hmm... Chad raced it at, uh, whatever the indoor track down there towards, uh- Kanochia?... towards the south.
• 26:32
No, towards, uh, Beloit. I forget what the track's called. But anyway, his son was racing, so he raced that bike in cruiser class. Anyhow, um, the grease had actually hardened. Oh. And I haven't...
• 26:44
I don't know what grease it was. Right. So I, I... Whatever it was, I don't want a grease that hardens, though, 'cause that's sort of- Right... the opposite effect that [laughs] you want the grease to have.
• 26:52
It's not greasing. [laughs] It's like [laughs] once like- It's anti-grease...
• 26:55
so whatever they put in, like Shimano, uh, uh, maybe they've changed it, but, like, older 105 levers, they've got this white grease in there, and I don't think it's lithium. I don't know what it is.
• 27:04
But it hardens up, and then you can't shift, so you have to kinda hose it down and clean it out really well and, you know, relube it with something lighter, I think, maybe.
• 27:13
But that stuff also hardens, so it might, uh, might've been a similar thing. Whatever. It's grease. Grease is the word. Easy word. TG word. God, this TG is really, really good. It is very good.
• 27:25
It's really good beer right there. That's good beer. Uh, yeah. So I, we got two of those clunkers down the road, by the way. Well, you got one to the, to the green monster? [clears throat] Yeah, yeah. Da- uh,
• 27:39
DFL is, uh, is gonna- There you go... paint one green, green with the, with the, the Blue Angels green paint. I don't know if we can say that. It's not government paint. It's just paint. Right.
• 27:49
But, uh, yeah, and the other dude was from Sheboygan up that way, so... And Tony was trying to buy his 'cause I s- I said, "If, if you keep skidding, y- you're gonna have to buy the bike."
• 27:58
I've never skidded that bike in my life. [laughs] Even though he scared me when he skidded up on me today a little bit. If you get... It's like cats have nine lives.
• 28:05
I, I would love to buy that bike, but I wouldn't- You skid nine, nine skids... I, I, I have a lot of bikes, and I do find that bike a lot of fun. But you see, I just kinda gotta finish this purple Ape.
• 28:19
Yeah, that would be a good idea. And that's gonna cost me a few more dollars. Probably gonna wanna get that done before the end of October so we can keep paying rent here or something. Oh, [laughs] shit.
• 28:27
Yeah, I'm gonna work on that. Um- [laughs] Hey, ADA hit a 202 this morning, and we- I know, and I screwed up and didn't... Well- Well, I-... obviously I was occupied...
• 28:33
I just, I got this mental break that it has to be two bucks before I buy more, but at 202 it still probably would've been worth the buy. That's pretty close to two bucks, man. I know.
• 28:41
I thought, well, in the, in the, you know, couple grand I might buy of it, that's not really very much, but- Right... every, every one you can get for less money is, is good. Is better. Yeah. It's better.
• 28:50
That's for sure. More gooder. I, I, I like my ADA. I wanna get it for cheap, cheap, but- Yeah... I don't want it to go like my Batman. I wanna get it for cheap, cheap. Not anymore. Nope.
• 28:58
Um, there's not a whole lot of events- Still expensive... I got on my list coming up, but, uh, the f- the Fenton Lake 106 is a thing coming up October 30th.
• 29:05
It's a long distance fat bike specific course, taking riders over miles of multi-surface- Oh, wow... natural terrain, including the northeast portion of the Namakagon River Barrens. Is it 106 miles- Yeah...
• 29:17
on a fat bike? I think they may have slightly shorter versions of it. Um, you know what? There's a link in the show notes.
• 29:22
You can probably go find out for yourself if you really wanna know about it, but I could look it up now. There may be shorter versions. I don't know. This is up in that same area of, uh, northern Wisconsin where
• 29:32
Seely Dave is talking about doing an event- Seely Dave... and that we rode a bunch of the ATV trails and stuff. It's sand. I mean, and, and it's one of the few spots,
• 29:41
you know, like that's not a beach, that fat bikes have a definite advantage, I think. There's some spots of that you would be running with your, even your cyclo-cross bike or whatever. So yeah, I don't know.
• 29:53
So they have a women, femme, trans, non-binary class, a men's class, and a tandem teams class. But, uh, I think, I think it looks like the whole thing. It's like you're doing 106 or you're doing nothing there, son.
• 30:05
I don't know. [laughs] Yeah, 106 miles. But, uh, that sounds like an interesting thing, and it's, uh, October 30th, so that's, you know, far enough in the future.
• 30:15
Could maybe go up there and photo shoot that thing or something. If, if we don't, I'm sure Seely Dave will be up there for it. Speaking of cyclo-cross, on Sunday over at The Rock Sports Complex- Ah, The Rock...
• 30:27
they're doing Hill Bill. Like Kill Bill but Hill Bill. Yeah. Yeah. It's kinda clever. Kinda sorta clever. Isn't there also a, a women's version, too, called something else, like Hill Jean? What is it?
• 30:38
Kilt, no, Kill, Kill Jill, or no, Jill Bill. Jill Bill. Jill Hill. Jill Hill. Jill, Jill Hill. Yeah. [laughs] So it's, it's- I was gonna get it, I swear. I didn't wanna look. I was gonna get it.
• 30:47
That's, yeah, that's cyclocross season is upon us, folks. Yeah. So. I still gotta get my ass out. I have not been to Rock since they've- Yeah... done that. I don't know.
• 30:55
I mean, just- Either you're riding the Alpha trails or you're not really riding the Rock anymore because- Or just to spectate and heckle... yeah, that's probably the better- That's my mode... call for that.
• 31:03
[laughs] It's more my speed on that. Cyclocross, unless it's impromptu during the winters. Right. Yep. [laughs] Like on our way out to, uh, I don't know- Well, he's-... McBob's with their new kitchen now. Oh. Oh.
• 31:15
So that'll be a nice- Wait, what? McBob's is adding a kitchen? Yeah, they were closed for like four or five days- Oh... putting a brand new kitchen in there so that- Nice...
• 31:23
they can make even more- New kitchens are saying that people are gonna-... more gooder, uh, corned beef and/or Reubens... are gonna dine out.
• 31:29
[laughs] While we're talking about, while we're talking about food, can we get a, a woo-woo for Hooligans opening again? 'Cause- Woo-woo... they have definitely kept... I mean, the place looks nice.
• 31:40
Had a nice fresh coat of paint after the fire. Little bit. But the food is still spot on, man. [laughs] It's good. I think I've been there at least a half a dozen times since- Nice... they reopened already.
• 31:52
Uh, we're kinda Mondaying it there, 'cause Monday is double punch day, so you can get your card filled up twice as fast for a free sammich. Mm-hmm. Right.
• 32:00
It's basically three and a half lunches, and you get another sandwich out of the deal, so it's, it's 25% off. That's significant. Yep. Yeah, 'cause, yeah. It's not the, it's not unapproachable. Right.
• 32:12
But it is, and you know- That's the deal on Mondays? Yeah, you know, you, most of the stuff- Yeah... most of the sandwiches are in the, you know, 10 to 15 buck neighborhood. 12 to 15, maybe hotdogs are 10. Yeah.
• 32:21
But, uh, yeah, double punch Mondays means- Yeah, I did a gulp-... you get there twice as quick... I did a gulp on that one, 'cause I was like, "Ah, ah, hotdog." Also, I don't think it counts for hotdogs.
• 32:29
Hotdogs were double digits. Er. Yeah. But it was really good. [laughs] It was really good. Freaking... It was a, it was deliberately wrapped in bacon and done well that way. All right. So I, kudos to that.
• 32:40
Oh, ding, it's time to change stations. Ding, ding, ding. And, uh, that also means it's time for us to let you find people, get to your station or station in life or train sta- whatever.
• 32:50
[laughs] Um, hey, thank you everybody. Uh, we'll, we'll, we'll be here next week, I think in the same place. We're not, uh, we're not on the move anymore, so thanks very much. 104.19 over. Thank you, Robert.
• 33:05
