- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's time for our community connection right here on K one,
- 0:05Speaker 1: the one you trust and on the telephone with me
- 0:08Speaker 1: is Mary Lynne Min from OKM. How you doing, Mary Lynn?
- 0:12Speaker 2: And great Tom? How are you?
- 0:14Speaker 1: I would always expect you to be great? You you
- 0:17Speaker 1: got a lot going on. My goodness Sake said. We're
- 0:21Speaker 1: getting ready for the kids and also especially for kids,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and also the big festival too.
- 0:30Speaker 2: We are the especially the kids festival is on May
- 0:33Speaker 2: twenty ninth through June fourth, so please mark your calendars
- 0:36Speaker 2: get ready for our launch, and then the festival is
- 0:40Speaker 2: from June fifth through June seventh, and we are just
- 0:44Speaker 2: so excited. We are celebrating, celebrating, celebrating, celebrating the two
- 0:49Speaker 2: hundred and fiftieth birthday of our country, one hundred years
- 0:52Speaker 2: of Route sixty six and forty two big years for
- 0:55Speaker 2: Okay and music. So it's going to be a very
- 0:58Speaker 2: special festival. I think everyone's going to really enjoy it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: There's a little bit of something for everyone, and I'll
- 1:05Speaker 2: give a little sneak teaser. It's an Americana vibe. And
- 1:09Speaker 2: so we're getting ready to have our launch in a
- 1:11Speaker 2: couple of weeks, so be on the lookout. It's going
- 1:14Speaker 2: to be fun. Tom. But leading into that, we can't
- 1:18Speaker 2: do our festival without summer interns. Yeah, so I am
- 1:23Speaker 2: making a special call and please get your applications in.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We've already had a handful of them. They're looking good.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We even have kids all the way over to Alabama
- 1:34Speaker 2: applying this year, so that's exciting. And you know, it's
- 1:39Speaker 2: a really great opportunity for kids to be able to
- 1:43Speaker 2: learn all about the music industry but also learn about retail, merchandising, marketing,
- 1:48Speaker 2: customer service, small business management, deal and tropic business management.
- 1:53Speaker 2: It's a good way to learn a little bit.
- 1:55Speaker 3: About everything at social media, and we put our interns
- 1:59Speaker 3: to work. The applications are on our website at okaymusic
- 2:04Speaker 3: dot org, and it doesn't matter. You don't have to
- 2:07Speaker 3: be a business major.
- 2:08Speaker 2: We always have a lot of business pakers and we
- 2:10Speaker 2: love them because they're very helpful when we're doing our
- 2:14Speaker 2: back line, our setup. They're helpful for the kids programming.
- 2:18Speaker 2: They often can demonstrate how to play a violin and
- 2:22Speaker 2: teach the students, and so that's always very magical and
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think it's very meaningful for.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Young artists to be inspired by older young artists, and that's.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Kind of the way that we do it at OKAM.
- 2:34Speaker 2: But it's a paid internship. It's two weeks. And again,
- 2:39Speaker 2: if you go onto the website okmmusic dot org, you
- 2:42Speaker 2: can read all about it. You can see what the
- 2:44Speaker 2: pay is, you can see what the hours are, sort
- 2:47Speaker 2: of the skill set or the things that you'll be
- 2:50Speaker 2: exposed to. And it really is for high school seniors
- 2:53Speaker 2: through college age, and so you know, please go on
- 2:56Speaker 2: and apply. I think our deadline is March fifteenth, so
- 2:59Speaker 2: it's good here quickly, and we're going to have to
- 3:02Speaker 2: then narrow it down and make selections and it's always
- 3:04Speaker 2: hard because we have so many good applicants. So please apply, apply, apply.
- 3:09Speaker 1: One thing that I've notice is that they don't leave.
- 3:12Speaker 1: They'd like to come back here after year. It's such
- 3:14Speaker 1: a good experience.
- 3:17Speaker 2: No, that's true. You know, we had Gosh, we had
- 3:20Speaker 2: Lane for many years, we had Joys for many years,
- 3:23Speaker 2: we had just Sell for many years, and sadly just
- 3:25Speaker 2: helped just retire at her young age of twenty one.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But no, she's doing another music internship right now. That's amazing.
- 3:33Speaker 2: For her, and we're so proud of her. Mia, who
- 3:35Speaker 2: has been on the radio many times with me and
- 3:38Speaker 2: without me, is actually coming back. She's a business major
- 3:42Speaker 2: at OSU and we're excited for her to come back.
- 3:45Speaker 2: She is going to actually be our intern manager this summer,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and so that's great experience for her. And we always
- 3:52Speaker 2: love to have Mia back. She always has a big
- 3:53Speaker 2: smile on her face and she's very task driven and
- 3:57Speaker 2: very good at corralling everybody, and so I know she'll
- 4:00Speaker 2: do a great job and we can't wait to have
- 4:02Speaker 2: her back. We'll have some new faces and then yet
- 4:05Speaker 2: you never know. Actually we do have another intern already
- 4:08Speaker 2: that it will be here for the entire summer. Bella
- 4:11Speaker 2: Sam also interned with us last year and she reached
- 4:14Speaker 2: out and said, I would love to come back and
- 4:17Speaker 2: do the whole summer, and so she's going to do that.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So you're right, we do have interns that come back.
- 4:22Speaker 2: So you know, that says a lot of good things
- 4:25Speaker 2: about the program. And I think, you know, the kids,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I mean, they work really hard, but I think they
- 4:30Speaker 2: have a really good time. They make a huge difference.
- 4:32Speaker 2: We wouldn't be able to do any of this without them,
- 4:37Speaker 2: you know, And it's just amazing what these young folks
- 4:40Speaker 2: can accomplish and what knowledge they already have. And I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think they really enjoy putting what they've already learned at
- 4:46Speaker 2: university or maybe high school. Many of the kids who
- 4:50Speaker 2: start with us in high school already work in the
- 4:52Speaker 2: fine arts or maybe their graphic design students out with
- 4:57Speaker 2: Wyat our board member at Tri County Tech. And so
- 5:00Speaker 2: it's just amazing what they know, and they usually know
- 5:02Speaker 2: a lot more than us.
- 5:03Speaker 3: So we're excited to have well maybe about the social
- 5:08Speaker 3: media that they.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Got it with.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, now we've got they're excellent.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We've got the Sugar Plumb Shop in full gear, and
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean full gear. You went from Valentine's Day just
- 5:21Speaker 1: everything we did.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We had all kinds of fun things at Valentine's and
- 5:25Speaker 2: now we have Saint Patrick's out and we have the
- 5:29Speaker 2: cutest Easter if you are looking for bunnies, if you
- 5:33Speaker 2: are looking for a little chicks, if you're looking for
- 5:35Speaker 2: Easter eggs, Easter egg baskets, maybe unique baskets, like we
- 5:39Speaker 2: have these bags that are kind of like carpet bags,
- 5:42Speaker 2: but they're actually knitting needle bags that I was I
- 5:46Speaker 2: was telling Katie, I was like, these are gonna make
- 5:47Speaker 2: really cute Easter baskets because they have so many pockets
- 5:50Speaker 2: you can stick all kinds of stuff. So if you're
- 5:52Speaker 2: wanting to maybe do a special bag for your you
- 5:55Speaker 2: know someone's special, comment and do it. It's not just
- 5:58Speaker 2: for kids, but we have kids. We have Mackenzie Child's
- 6:02Speaker 2: really fun Easter stuff. We have it, you name it,
- 6:06Speaker 2: we got it. It's a crazy it's a small space,
- 6:10Speaker 2: it's two rooms, but they are packed to the brims
- 6:13Speaker 2: and it's just fun, fun, fun. I mean we have
- 6:16Speaker 2: Saint Patrick's jewelry and charms and sweatshirts. We have some
- 6:20Speaker 2: small Irish themed gifts, so that's what you're looking for.
- 6:24Speaker 2: One of our most popular items, which kind of makes
- 6:26Speaker 2: me giggle because I love stuff. Cannibals are jelly cats.
- 6:30Speaker 2: They are the most plush, lush and very odd little
- 6:34Speaker 2: stuffed animals. I mean some of them like you would expect,
- 6:37Speaker 2: like little dogs and teddy bears and so many bunnies.
- 6:39Speaker 2: But then they also make these amusables and so you
- 6:42Speaker 2: might have a back gut, you might have a piece
- 6:44Speaker 2: of brie, you might have a little egg, you might
- 6:47Speaker 2: have a piece of corn or a carriage. They just
- 6:50Speaker 2: make all different kinds of designs, and every week when
- 6:54Speaker 2: we get our new shipment in, we just sort of
- 6:56Speaker 2: laugh and go okay, wow cool. In fact, we just
- 6:59Speaker 2: got like a lot of picture We've got some daisies.
- 7:02Speaker 2: We have this little mole. He's adorable. So you got
- 7:05Speaker 2: to come see all this, Tom, It's really fun. I
- 7:08Speaker 2: think the kids really have a fun time when they're
- 7:10Speaker 2: coming in to sign up for kids events. They get
- 7:12Speaker 2: to go check out all the good merch. But we
- 7:14Speaker 2: also have a lot of spring decor and home accents, candles, soaps.
- 7:18Speaker 2: If you're looking for a hostess gifts or you're needing
- 7:20Speaker 2: to entertain, we have entertainment type of kitchen pieces that
- 7:25Speaker 2: are just beautiful. And then, like I said, so many
- 7:29Speaker 2: things to stuff an Easter basket with, from small jewelry
- 7:33Speaker 2: to stationery to just all kinds of fun little puzzles
- 7:36Speaker 2: and games. So please come by and see us. The
- 7:40Speaker 2: sugar Plumb is you know, it's fun and it's a
- 7:43Speaker 2: wonderful addition to Okay and music. But the very special
- 7:46Speaker 2: part about it is that all proceeds go to help
- 7:49Speaker 2: our children's programming, and so you know know, when you're
- 7:53Speaker 2: shopping here, not only are you getting a nice gift
- 7:55Speaker 2: for yourself or someone else, you're actually making the difference
- 7:57Speaker 2: in the life of a child. You're enabling us to
- 8:00Speaker 2: buy the instruments and the books and the art supplies
- 8:03Speaker 2: that we need for all of our year programming. And
- 8:06Speaker 2: we spend over eighty five thousand dollars on our kiddos.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And it's thanks to everyone who comes to our events,
- 8:13Speaker 2: who donates, who sponsors us all the grants and then
- 8:16Speaker 2: but it's also the Sugar Plumb Shop that brings them
- 8:19Speaker 2: a nice stream of revenue for us. And so thank
- 8:21Speaker 2: you Bartlesville and everyone in surrounding communities for shopping there.
- 8:25Speaker 2: But please come check it out. It's super fun. The
- 8:27Speaker 2: window right now is super cute. It has bunnies in
- 8:30Speaker 2: the window and giant flowers that open, and clothes and
- 8:33Speaker 2: I think giant butterflies and maybe a bumblebee. It's pretty cute,
- 8:39Speaker 2: you know. The thing, you know, we are ready for springs.
- 8:43Speaker 1: One thing that I like about it is that you
- 8:46Speaker 1: never know what you're going to walk into, except for
- 8:49Speaker 1: you know you're going to walk into quality and goodness
- 8:51Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Because a lot of things change.
- 8:54Speaker 1: You change with the season, you change with what's going on,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and a lot of the the inventory gets, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: kind of move ground. So we didn't see it the
- 9:02Speaker 1: first time you were there. It might be in a
- 9:05Speaker 1: different place where you can see it just right there
- 9:07Speaker 1: in front of your eyes.
- 9:09Speaker 2: No, it absolutely does. And it's so fun because we have,
- 9:13Speaker 2: of course in our building, we have other businesses, and
- 9:15Speaker 2: it's so fun when people come in and they're like,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I didn't know you were here, and we're like yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 2: and then they come in and they shop and I
- 9:23Speaker 2: get a coffee every morning delivered to me and sometimes
- 9:25Speaker 2: the delivery people shop like they love our window display,
- 9:29Speaker 2: they love everything, and so yeah, we're just like spread
- 9:31Speaker 2: the word. We are a small boutique. Sometimes people I
- 9:35Speaker 2: think miss us, but there is a plane in the
- 9:36Speaker 2: store of sugar Plum. It's of course, right underneath the
- 9:39Speaker 2: awning that says Okmo's Arts. We're at four fifteen South Dewey,
- 9:43Speaker 2: right across from Gateway Bank and our Best Bank down
- 9:46Speaker 2: the street from the Price Tower. You can't miss us,
- 9:49Speaker 2: right next to RSU. There's ample parking right in front,
- 9:53Speaker 2: and we are open from nine to five Monday through
- 9:56Speaker 2: Friday and we're open most Saturdays. Every once in a
- 9:59Speaker 2: while we have a big party or a rental out
- 10:02Speaker 2: in Invillhall and we may close down, but just check
- 10:05Speaker 2: our website at Okaymusic dot org for that information. Or
- 10:10Speaker 2: it's like on a day to day you wake when
- 10:12Speaker 2: you're like, oh, I really need a birthday gift, but man,
- 10:15Speaker 2: it's pouring down rain and I don't want to get out.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Go to SHOPOKM dot square dot site. So shop OKM
- 10:22Speaker 2: dot square dot site and you can shop online and
- 10:25Speaker 2: we'll have your items waiting for you. You can pick them
- 10:27Speaker 2: up or we can ship them to whoever you need
- 10:29Speaker 2: us to shift them to if you're buying a gift.
- 10:32Speaker 2: So it's pretty easy, Tom. And it's a lot of fun.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It is, It truly is. And it's a great atmosphere
- 10:38Speaker 1: when you walk in there too, because the folks who
- 10:41Speaker 1: were helping you out there at OKM at the sugar Plumshop,
- 10:45Speaker 1: they're a lot of fun. They have fun doing that too,
- 10:47Speaker 1: showing you what you have.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Oh my god, they are. They're the best. You have
- 10:52Speaker 2: to come if anything, you have to come meet Rose,
- 10:55Speaker 2: you have to come meet Katie. If you haven't already
- 10:57Speaker 2: met them. They are ready and able and willing to
- 11:01Speaker 2: wrap your presence with some beautiful wrapping. We can also
- 11:04Speaker 2: shrink wrap it if you have a display shower or
- 11:06Speaker 2: something like that. And they are just the too sweetest
- 11:10Speaker 2: people that you will ever meet. Everyone that has been
- 11:12Speaker 2: to our especially for kids, knows Rose. They everyone loves Rose.
- 11:16Speaker 2: So come see her. She'll show you all the latest
- 11:18Speaker 2: jelly cats. And Katie is also equally adorable and sweet
- 11:23Speaker 2: and just cannot wait to sell you something, So come
- 11:25Speaker 2: meet her.
- 11:26Speaker 1: This is going to be hurt. This is going to
- 11:29Speaker 1: be great. And when will we be announcing what's coming
- 11:35Speaker 1: up at the at the big festival.
- 11:38Speaker 2: In a couple in a couple of weeks.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You know, I'm always to that, you know, no, no, no,
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's very exciting, and we'll be sending out all of
- 11:47Speaker 1: our press releases and all.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Of our information. And in fact, Katie and I were
- 11:51Speaker 2: just to be on the road this morning. I think
- 11:53Speaker 2: it just got a little bit postponed because of the weather.
- 11:56Speaker 2: And then when I was listening to the preview of
- 11:59Speaker 2: the web are coming up before you and I went
- 12:01Speaker 2: on air, I thought, oh, it's a really good idea
- 12:02Speaker 2: that we got postponed, but we're going to have golf
- 12:05Speaker 2: ball play tail, but we're actually going to one of
- 12:08Speaker 2: our venues to do the walk through the morning to
- 12:11Speaker 2: get the final stage layout and all of that. So
- 12:14Speaker 2: it is coming home and it is coming fast. So
- 12:17Speaker 2: look in the next couple of weeks. I think it's
- 12:19Speaker 2: going to be really exciting. There's a little bit of
- 12:22Speaker 2: something again for everyone. Think Americana, and you know that's
- 12:26Speaker 2: the vibe. The vibe is to be in a celebratory
- 12:30Speaker 2: spirit the summer, just to have fun, to enjoy American history,
- 12:35Speaker 2: to enjoy American music and the history of American music.
- 12:38Speaker 2: And you need to sit back and either relax and
- 12:41Speaker 2: close your eyes, maybe gaze at the stars, enjoy some fireworks,
- 12:44Speaker 2: but you'll be listening to music that you know and
- 12:47Speaker 2: you love. And I think it's going to be a wonderful,
- 12:49Speaker 2: wonderful festival.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I know it's going to be because you got the
- 12:52Speaker 1: team in place. It's all ready to go. Mary Lynn, ma'am,
- 12:56Speaker 1: thank you very much, thanks for sharing about the internship
- 12:59Speaker 1: opportunity and of course the sweet news about the sugar
- 13:02Speaker 1: Plum Shop and everything else. Once again, that is okay
- 13:06Speaker 1: at music dot Org. That'll get you anywhere you need
- 13:09Speaker 1: to go, and if you want to do some shopping,
- 13:11Speaker 1: its shop OKM dot square dot site. Marylyn, Take care,
