- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: What's up everybody, welcome in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: It is the suitors on S.I.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: Post Game Podcast here from the beautiful Lincoln Financial Field and Philly.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan Chapman here alongside the Great Carson Field.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, how did you enjoy the Philly experience?
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: A very cool atmosphere.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: This is my first time in Philly, so enjoy it.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: Cool to be at Luna Fel Stadium, even if it was nowhere near capacity to be capacity today.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm tired, my voice is going out, I guess, but fun game, oh, you obviously looked fantastic, both sides of the ball and we'll dive right into that.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a smidge under 28,000 made their way out today.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: So it didn't quite matter if people were talking on hot mic.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever, it didn't get anything going there.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: There was not much juice from the temple side of the state.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: If the oak was side, there was.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: There wasn't Carson because Oklahoma comes out, but we asked the question under Brent Vinnables.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of had some struggles whether it be actually losing games or a couple years back UCF, a team that they were much much better than having to go way way down to the wire on that.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: didn't go as well.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: And they got the win today.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: There was none of that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma came out on the offensive side of the ball, scored on their first four possessions on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of one first down through five possessions 42 to three ended up being this was if you're looking for like a, uh, how do you turn the corn than carry that?
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: We weren't going to say, hey, the corn has been turned by beaten temple, but uh, beat Michigan last week and then just totally roll over the house.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is what good teams do to bad football
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: No, at 100% is, and I know it's a similar score line to what we saw against Illinois State in week one.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: One more touchdown today, but the effort was so much better, I felt like both sides of the ball, obviously the defense controlled that game was great.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: There was no opportunity for Evan Simon.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: He had the second best quarterback rating in the nation, and sure those were against two bad teams.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Howard and you, Mass.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: But that's, you, you still have to be fairly decent to do that, and oh, you gave him nothing, I think he finished with 75 yards.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was under Dores all day long thanks to the front 7.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: The second area, obviously we've talked about Bowen, Gillery, just really good effort from them as has been the first two games, so I mean, just very complete, and I feel like it's a good thing to get a landslide win before playing a team like Auburn.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: yeah for sure we'll get a ton of preview on Auburn next week but something that was good for next week.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Kindle Dolby back in the lineup today he I think I did them at 357 days I believe we're tired don't check us it was really really really close to
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: year to the day, since he went down against Tennessee last year, comes back into the lineup with no-chantry Williams today, that meant that Kindle Dolby slotted across from courtly gillery, finished tied for the team with four total tackles, which I think shows you just what kind of day it was for Oklahoma, the starters were in and out, that kind of thing, but I him and I believe it was, uh, Samuel was Seigo that both ended up with four maintenance energy powers.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: But he came back in and that meant that, man, this defense, I feel like we did so much Yaddi adding about it in the offseason, not because we thought it wasn't going to be good, but because so many questions are about the offense and all that, we'll get to the offense.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: another incredible showing today.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Three games into the season, Oklahoma doesn't have a turn over forced on defense car, but again, it doesn't feel like it's because, oh my gosh, they're in the wrong spot, they're on a place.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: The closest they got today was Samium with Seigo in the Inzo tips, one of them, and Simon's passes up in Grace and Halton.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: Lays all the way out, then quite get there, but they are not turning the ball over because teams are snapping the ball three times and having
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's been kind of unbelievable that this event has been so good without even having to force a turnover.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: No, OU's defense has not been on the field a lot and when they have been, they've been great.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think teams, especially you look at Illinois State Temple, maybe have been a little bit more conservative at some point in the game knowing, okay, we are not going to win this football game.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's keep our guys healthy.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not do anything too ballsy or else maybe someone gets hurt.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not throw into crazy coverage.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: The past game's not working.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: different, more conservative play calling on the opponent's ends.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not necessarily the case in Michigan, but I mean, that's true freshman quarterback.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: They don't want to turn everything over to him in that game.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not, I don't think it's an area for concern.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really think there are any true areas other than some nicks, bruises, stuff like that of concern for the defense.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you look at today, if we take out the end of half where the next we just took a knee, Temple had 13 possessions.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: three and outs, nine of those 13 possessions.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: The one scoring drive was off of the geometry interception.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then basically, Temple had one sustained drive, the 11 play drive, at the end of the game when it was backups for everybody.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: And even that resulted in this field goal.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: So you look at everything that went down there.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: And now, on the year, this is a fantastic stat from Brady Trantham.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Opponents are seven of 41 against oh used defense right now on the year seven of 41 and man It's one of those things where there were a couple moments where Whether it be wrenchy powers who got called up to to be a blitzer today at the Cheetah spot He had a quarter of my kit and then eventually got a sack on the same possession there early in the game Whether it's the fact that how many times today man did you get to like a third and short ash or a third and four or less
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: and the snap happens and whether it's David Stone, there was one where David Stone split the double team, and there were two outfits, so I'm just turned around like, that's not good.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: You had that a couple times, you had Jay and Jackson a couple times.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: This defense has been smothering through three weeks, and I get it.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: One of those outfits in the middle of the most state, one of those temple.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan, I don't know if you'd be like, I taught five outfits or anything like that.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: had no problem zipping up and down the field against a bad situation.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: But they had no problem today, and this Oklahoma defense gave them hell for four quarters last week.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think today was more just assurance on what we saw against Michigan.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, just his hands, he he finished with a good stat line, but that was mostly because of a 75 yard run.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Today, I mean, to as worthy he's a good back, J. Ducker, he's a decent back.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they don't have a horrible running game.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: And oh you made it look like it was horrible.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like you mentioned this second to go those third and short situations There was never really a doubt you'd you'd see them out at third and one.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's third and two Oh, you's gonna get the stop and they did time and time again Really it was a couple of longer like 15 yard runs stuff like that that kind of kept some of those temple drives moving But those did not happen as you said very often
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: 3 of 16 today for a simple on 3rd down here's the kicker 104 yards of total offense just absolutely unbelievable you go up and down it was 4 sacs total for local home we talked about 3rds you power is one year he had guides from all over the place say they're high I'm got in there
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: White Gilmore got in there.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, when you look at 11 tackles for loss, they forced a bumble but weren't able to pop down on it and for those passbreakups three of them were Tipped balls by Samuel with C go to an hide he got in there and got one.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it was another fantastic show of Brooklyn was deep at safe for one moment
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: One play, which will actually impact the Auburn game next week with 10.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, five, I think we're up to the third quarter.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: Armace and Thomas comes around.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: He gets hit for a roughing the pastor for coming up.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: High base master face mask that that was then called up to the booth for targeting, which I don't know how that play got reviewed for targeting, but the interception where Keyanto zoos that felt like got hit for the same exact base master face mask.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: I understand the roughing the
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I would not have thrown the flag, but like I get it quarter-action endangered species if like if it's like reputable set after the game You didn't get a good look at it, but any time you go face mask to face mask you put yourself in trouble for something like that and now Armies and Thomas
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: out for most of the second half today, crucially he'll be out for the first half next week against Auburn, which I think Oklahoma band just went through the other way, right?
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: Which Jason Barham, the Michigan linebacker, who was out for the first half against Oklahoma week ago, that's gonna be pretty pretty massive, but,
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: At the same time, if Oklahoma's run defense plays like this, I think it's going to be more about what can Oklahoma's secondary do on the outside.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like coming off the field, gentry Williams, some of the GA stuff like that, what we're building them up like, hey, we'll get you back out there stuff like that.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see if that means you get gentry Williams plus importantly, get a plus Kindle Dolby with that means for our secondary next week.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I mean, losing a guy like Armace and Thomas is huge for a half, but I have been impressed with the defensive end group outside of him, too, Taylor Wein.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: We heard so much praise about him throughout the offseason, he's lived up to it.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like Marvin Jones Jr has also been really good three tackles today.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's been pretty consistent.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know Daniel Coia didn't play, but he looked good in the first two games of the year.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: So they have manpower, obviously not the star power that Armace and Thomas brings, but there are guys and they've shown that they have depth at that position groups, so that's at least a little silver lining there.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought Marvin Jones Jr.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't think the box course can be super impressive if you're looking for an individual statline because especially on defense.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, on defense specifically like it.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: They were so good as a unit.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: It Brent Benable said that they're having fun.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's like it's recessed out there.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it looks like and they're having fun.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that was something that Kindle Dolby had used recess and something on his own.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what that thing looks like.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: And again, Brent Benable's, you could tell he's really, really happy with their disc defense has been because he was asked about the tournament.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: So he gave a big smile.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, it's awful, right?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's terrible.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, no, I'm able to joke about it because they've been so good through three weeks.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that,
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: I even talked to you a bit of our buckle about that.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: I asked him, hey, when you've got a defense that plays like this, what does that do for you as an offensive coordinator?
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: As a play call, is that let you open things?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: That means like, yeah, absolutely.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: It lets you be way more aggressive now.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's certain matchups.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you gotta be aware of what area the field you're on, but it really feels like if Oklahoma gets into more close games, do I expect to be at the more close games with the scheduled they've got, that this is going to be a spot where, yeah, it might be frustrated, but if you're sitting in like a third and two near midfield, I think
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, most people are expecting a run here.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Can we take maybe a deep shot?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: No one that if we have to, it brickbiddle tells me, hey, let's pot, or hey, let's go for it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're hand on the ball back over.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: It'd feel that if you're not able to get it, that you're able to go, that deep it's probably going to go out there and force a turnover, the lamb at that, yeah, I have no doubt they will, or get a stop, because two of these three games are not the Michigan game, but,
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: If Yameter hadn't thrown an interception deep into a utilitarian theory, we're talking about only allowing the one touch down to Michigan and shutting out Illinois State and Temple.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, no, that's definitely true.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's pretty remarkable to think about it.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: You look at 108 total yards for Temple today.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's just absolutely absurd.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not just, oh, they've played bad teams.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: They did that against a great running team like Michigan.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just, like I said, further assurance that this defense is legitimate.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously take away something you need against some of these better offenses.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan, granted not a proven product offensively.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: They can very well turn out to be one of those teams.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not so great offense, good defense, like an Iowa.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: They could be a lot better.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: They looked a lot better today in their game against Central Michigan.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: But there will be better offenses, but just judging off of the three game sample size
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a good sign.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: You flip that over to the other side of the ball and it could be not more night and day for what's on a simple softness and Oklahoma's offense to be expected 515 total yards of offense like we said four straight possessions where the sooner should zip down the field in the score.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: We got to 25 nothing and some really, really random ways will recap it, but it was kind of like a story of two quarters in a way after the
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: first quarter.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Oklahoma had a reverse plague blown up for minus nine yards.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: They had had geometry to take a tin yard sack.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: So, Oklahoma is actually in the negative for rushing yards in the first quarter.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Then they flip it around and really start to get things going on the ground.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with Tory play lots.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: because we're gonna talk about the tier, we'll talk about Jared and Canick and all that, but I thought, again, he got every snap on that first drive.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: J, not did not get into the game till the fourth quarter.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that it was a lot about like, hey, toy play like was having a really, really nice day.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: He had that first rushing test, in which was a tough run, finishing over a guy at the goal line and then standing tall.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: Then his second touchdown run, that 18 yard run.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: That was OU at that point.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: their second longest rush of the season behind the material's 19 yarder against Michigan.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was the longest rush by I know you running back so far this year, but I like it had an 11 yard run and then you look at it and later in the game, you know, 25 yarder where you kind of got to the edge and showed off so that's being the open field.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Ended up with 100 yards rushing on board team rushes, two touchdowns.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: That was a 7.1 average without really having like
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: a 60-order to really juice.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was a little bit more encouraged by Tory Blaylock and it felt like running.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have to go back and watch it again.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot going on in the press backstage to see what Logan Hallen did at left tackle for Michael Pissussy, but it felt like Oklahoma.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: They had a game plan car so they can spread them out.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: Go through the air early and then come back with a running game.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's ever going to be like an on my gosh, Oklahoma can say we're going to run it right here for four straight quarters, but I think but our buck was kind of pretty good, uh, feel for that in.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: something else too.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: They had three touch passes today that all went 14 yards or more and that for me is basically a rush but it went into the into the passing column.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you add, don't have the exact number but let's say you just add 30 to that, then you're talking about getting to close to 300 yards rushing on 42 carries and I think we're going to take that.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think what's really encouraging is good teams get consistently better at the things they're not great on.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: The first game we talked about, okay, they couldn't rush against Illinois State.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: That might be trouble.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: They looked better against Michigan, and they looked really good on the ground today.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Tory Blaylock, as you mentioned, just so explosive, and just doing this is a true freshman very impressive, seven yards of carry.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think,
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think O'Use kind of found themselves a back for the future, I think he's a really good player.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: That was, yeah, still bizarre.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: Still can't figure out that one.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Only four carries for 11 yards.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Just a little confusing.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Robinson looked good.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: He made the most of his touches.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously got that third quarter touchdown.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I feel like the running game was really encouraging the line did their part and kind of moving it down the field.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: After it was that jump, a tiered, a jarencanic connection.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of Zion Cerny, Kiyontas Lewis, before his injury, I felt like they just kind of opened it up and it shows the versatility that this offense can have at peak potential.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that Blaylock 25 round was a used longest rush of the year for Aplay and Toma Tier Win.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: video in the arts of the house on the very, very next snap.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: The Jade Not thing just continues to be bizarre.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: Brent was asked about it after the game and he basically said, yeah, not where he's at or what to be and like any facet.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: We have faith that he'll continue to, you know, roll forward and get better than I thought it was interesting.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was like,
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: making a point or anything preventables when he's asked a Tory playlock he's like yeah he's been spectacular not 100% healthy i just thought it's interesting that he put that out there we know that i'm dealing with the shoulder but like also dealing with the shoulder his response just kind of like that's football and he's rocking and rolling that the thing that both arm buckle and geometry said about Tory playlock is that we can go in
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: We can get him a correction, and he can take that from the film room to the practice field to the field on Saturdays pretty quickly, and that's what John Mathier said.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's what makes him special, and you're going to need to keep getting better.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's exactly like you said.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think we've seen a deepest that has gotten better each week.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think Oklahoma...
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: obviously has gotten better each week and a lot a lot of that's due to last week getting four new starters on the offensive line three guys that didn't play the week one but today my gov suci not in hit the boot on the left ankle we know he had said he had sprayed that in the last driving in smishkin last week so uh seems like a situation where Oklahoma said Auburn up next really need him to be good but
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: Habitallic Logan Howlin to be your swing tackle, I think that's like really, really valuable that he got all that experience last year for Derek Simmons and Michael Pistousey to have someone that can step in and play both sides for him.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it's definitely looking like he's using that experience he learned a lot from last year.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: I know that they kind of talked about a lot during fall camp about, okay.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: This year sucked for the offensive line in 2024.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to make- we're going to be so much better because of that and you're at least starting to see the process of that.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: We had some big concerns after Illinois stayed about this run blocking is not good.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: The run blocking looked really solid today.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: You see Blaylock get a lot of big holes.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, a material is able to scramble pretty regularly.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think he 75 yards is what he finished with.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, the line looks a lot more encouraging.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: That was my biggest concern with this team after week one.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: how are they going to be able to contain really good defenses?
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we saw a really good defense today, and didn't know.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: But we did last week against Michigan and it was stellar.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like today it would have been stellar against a good defense too, so I think that's encouraging.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll be a lot better competition obviously next week in summer.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: This temple team, I mean, I think I might pick it up in my state.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I get that they had played, UMass and Howard, so what we said that,
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be a heck of a game.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was like every single thing we had said was it was against UMass and Howard.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was against UMass and Howard.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let it Oklahoma do.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was much, much, much better today.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Big part of that, especially early was during Canick again.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: You look at it.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma tries to run their reverse on first and 10 from the tip of 23 gets hit for a nine-yard loss, second-dense and inkingplete pass, and then what is it?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: third and 19 that was impossible for this year ago.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was really hard to vocal home three years ago in dealing Gabriel and Jeff Lennon's first season, third and 19, you need 19 yards to get 23 from Jaren Kannick.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: Kannick also had the little toss to Punner Jacob Orek, who was not Pummy again today.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: in the game but he had that right hamstring rap he was putting in pregame and i guess that they're going to put him out there to jog out and catch two-foot conversion then it'll be closer there can't get another big third down pick up in a third and long later in the game yeah i mean i i just thought it was incredibly impressive from a okohoma and uh java tier and that often stood in the first four
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: possessions.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now, our buckle did say Carson, like, hey, thought we ramped down a little bit.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: I need that one place they need to get better at is taking every single possession super serious, but the law was basically just the first two possessions of the second half.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: Then they ran it back up again and started scoring it until they basically put Michael Hock and Shoot again.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it was a little bit of a little start the third.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that's easy to do when you have such a commanding lead.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know that you have this game in control.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think it's too much
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: especially considering the response was backed back touchdowns with the Robinson or I guess that was a short pass.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: Robinson short pass from material and then obviously the 50 plus yard rush from material.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was good to get it into gear.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: Hawkins obviously didn't look amazing.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like he could run.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: What we knew about Hawkins a very fast guy, very mobile.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: But that was garbage time.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not a whole lot to take from something like that.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I only asked him to throw the ball three times, which I did think it was actually we we'd talk about the pop this week, I thought it was important for Oklahoma to go out and say, hey, I know that Brett Middleson said they want to be mindful of Michael Hawkins Jr.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: and they wanted to redshirt him if they can, but I also think it's important for him to get a couple snaps where Ben Orbuckles in his ear calling his plays, not just
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: Set the trails plays and all that stuff or Joe jump in these plays from the bowl game from last year I thought that was actually really important for Michael Hawkins Jr Only asked for the ball three times.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: They did move the chains enough to set up that second bill bowl It's in from Austin Welch and that being a miss but I think it feels better about the special teams We get to hear in a minute with the sandals 52 yard make That was one of those things that I'm like hey, we might have to get two or three games on beyond but it
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: You missed that first one against mission because you won the game if you're good after that I think that could be a little bit forgiven for maybe nerves first time being out there But he banged through a 50s to you order today.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about your through the air?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that at times it was excellent.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: There was some he spun out of a sack early on the first possession He spun out of a sack again and kept the chains moving and then I thought
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: Especially in that field goal drive he took a little bit which that's kind of the given take and I think that's what Alcoma fans are very familiar with if you remember back to the early Baker days that The spectacular what he can do on a third down out ways that at times drives get cute sure like could you have thrown that away, but
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he did a pretty decent job today of limited the hits 20-34-282 one-through-the-air one-interception only took the one-sack but I thought he did a better job of outside that one-sack looking around and saying hey can I dump it off to someone along the line of skirmish and just keep this thing moving
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: No, overall, I thought it was very impressive.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: 20 for 34 is not just record-breaking completion percentage, it isn't.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: But you've got to like how mobile he is.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about that time and time again, just being able to make plays.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Try to make something out of nothing.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't always work.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: That kind of fits that mold of your guys like a Baker May field.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: Johnny Mansell.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of has a little bit of that in him.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Which as we know with those quarterbacks even when they were great in college there are some turnovers There are some mistakes.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's not you're not gonna have a 70% completion percentage most of the time And that's okay, especially when you're scoring 42 points.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: You're getting both the passing game and the running game working
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: There are some drawbacks, but I feel like from what we've seen in three games, the positive outweigh those drawbacks.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I thought he played well today.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: Again, this is when he did stuff like this, he had to nitpick, right?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Because I thought he did everything he needed to do against Michigan.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right, I thought it was less hercule in than what we saw against Michigan.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it was still a very above average performance.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, it was one of those things, too, that I think that material, like the rest of the offense, throwing it down there kind of a half time, which, uh,
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was born, you're no longer having to like, okay, we have to win this game.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Foot's kind of off the gas.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: I know that's never what coaches want to see, but their play calling is going to be a little bit more vanilla.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little harder to get juice when you have only 27,000 people on hand.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, half of those are not your fans.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, part of me gets it and I, like I said, I shouldn't, I don't think that should be too concerning.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now, and you would know better than me.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you were down there.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Man, it really felt like by the time that Oklahoma had gone up 18 nothing on that third score, the Temple offense was so overmatched.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was like,
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: college team played a high school team at times.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like early.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Temple through the first four drives had picked up.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: What is that?
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: 13 30 yards on four drives, but only one first down.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: It really, really felt like that everyone on the tip of sideline or the fans at least kind of looked around.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, well, it's cool that we're getting to see Oklahoma play and we hope that our friends that play on that football team
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Not that it was a ton anyway.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: It got sucked out immediately.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was very much like, ah, well, I feel like even though he paints like, this is cool, especially the ones that don't have to get to get to Norman, but it was a spot where I could forgive everyone, because that's, I thought that's where you need to create your own energy.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: A ton was toward the end of the second quarter, which then that time the game was well-in-handled, coming out and take care of business.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a little bit dead, and to be fair, temples such a new look program with KC healer coming in.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: That program, I think their best days are ahead of them.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a real good coach.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, one, two, FCS championships.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there are talented enough team, but you look at a pure size perspective.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to match up with the team like Oklahoma.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: They could be a decent team against other AAC teams.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: I have no doubt that they'll win a couple more games at least this year.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: But when you go against the size, speed, and athleticism of a team like OU, even at your home field, it's just not going to go well.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously the crowd was pretty dead.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of empty seats that were taken at the beginning of a game by the third quarter.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: So it was kind of dead, but still a really cool environment for these players, obviously playing at an NFL venue.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought that it was really, really apparent the athleticism difference when, like, Isaiah Cetany had the ball in his hands.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: He finished with 97 yards on seven catches, one of those being a 28 yarder, which was the touch pass, which was basically like a reverse or a jet sweep or stuff like that.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: Really, really good day for Cetany.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: Canon, again, 86 yards on four catches.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna continue his charge for the Mackey.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought the only thing from the Wilder Severs Deon Berks had a moment where he was at the middle of the field, on the left-hash, he had kind of turned up field.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the safety's is able to come over and try to shoot string him.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: And he did get Berks otherwise.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: That would have been another massive massive explosive play.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I other than that tackle, I thought when our buckle and material got the ball
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, the temple cannot hang with the so called the tea.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, they really couldn't.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, and it's no fault of ours.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's just harder to get these athletes to temple and it is OU.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's an SEC program.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that as well.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see you, Zion.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Curny, get back out there.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Had four targets, two catches.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: One really, really nice.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was the 16 yard.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was the one over to the temple sideline that moved the chance.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Where, but here it was.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Asked about that after the Able Sea about just building a hole in that thing across his body.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, no, that was pretty hilarious materials, like yeah, some of my baseball instincts came in there.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: So it was funny to see that, but I mean, we've seen it happen and we've seen it work before.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: Tim Teevo obviously had that iconic one, sorry to bring back some old memories, oh, you fans.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, it was an impressive play.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: Elijah Thomas got out there finally, he's a wide receiver today.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: He hauled in his first catch, but I thought the biggest one was,
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Hawkins had him he had a step on his quarterback out there and Hawkins let fly the ball I think just drifted a little bit too far toward the other hash and it was a little bit over throw Otherwise I thought Elijah Thomas could have had a really really really big catch and run and I just think it's good Is he's I'm currently get out there?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Giovanni Gibson continues to bring a lot of juice on the sideline, but he's not playing quite yet He traveled though, which I think that's encouraging
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: Little bit of reward, a partner with likes to reward those guys who are good leaders on the sideline things like that, but too, if you weren't, if you weren't close to getting back in, like for instance, Jacob Sexton did not travel after the injury, he used to stay in Troy, ever who got dinged up in this week, did not travel, those guys weren't close, weren't even out there, Eli Bowen did travel though, he never went through warms, which was a treat close, got like Taylor Tatum went through warmups, never was gonna get back into the game, things like that, but I think that's a good side, that they're traveling Giovanna Gibson,
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Still think maybe Kent State, maybe the other side of the biweek, but it is sooner rather than later.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, getting somebody like Giovanni Gibson.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know we've talked about what he could bring to this team.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't seen it in a person yet, but his size, what he did last year, Pine Bluff sure, FCS program.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: You're seeing that work for Keyantes Lewis right now.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's just another weapon and a different type of weapon that
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: If they could get them in against a team like Kent State, maybe not even start a Mecky, maybe get them in third quarter when they're up against a really not so great Kent State team, get them some reps, get them some catches, good to go by Texas, that would be huge.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, it'll be interesting to see what that thing looks like.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think some good vibes on the special teams this week too, like you mentioned, Grayson Miller punting again, four pots, 200 yards, 50 yards per kick, put them inside the 20, 20, twice, also wouldn't touch back, but
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: uh... it was a punning mismatch today that temple punters one of the worst college punters i've ever seen it's not even close kind of insane there uh... but the big window takes and out rolls out there for the fifty-two yarder that was a spot where uh... call the time out did that kick go in we couldn't really tell from the pressbox
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: The initial one where he burned the time out.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like it was really really low.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like it went in.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so it looked like he banged through the Toyota initially, uh, forgive me.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: They did not show that replay in the press box for whatever reason it was kind of weird.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was close.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right after the time out.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying it went in from, I heard, oh, you fans behind me say it went in.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: They could have just been lying.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: They could have been homers, but I thought it was good.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: You, uh, it's really really hard.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: I only people expect how hard it is to track a football through that little view fighter on that camera.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm, I'm no good when it comes to field goals.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: So here's, here's the thing though, called the timeout Casey Healer did.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: Tates and Dell rolls back out there.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that second one had even more leg.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: It was well through, that was the 52 yarder.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: Came out, hit the chip shot the 29 yarder as well.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: So kind of got a little bit of those shooters out.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's really, really good for Oklahoma and Tates and Dell that,
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: put that one beside him, bangs through a couple here, as well as that other way to get some Michigan.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: So he's not three for four on the year.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: They did get Austin Welch in there, which, you know, Bripman was had praised Austin Welch for his work during fall camp, but all that stuff that he had pushed, said he missed his 50 to yard if that one wasn't really close.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna be rocker roll a tates head down most importantly.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: There was one Punt that's a tain you feel that was like why are you catching that football?
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most part lot more bear catches day from Satan.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a lot cleaner in the pump return game as well It definitely was the really aside from that one.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know exactly which one you're mentioning It was very clean in the return game.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: I thought as you mentioned sand though
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that he was a talented kicker.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: His numbers didn't lie from UTSA.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's more just getting that confidence after nailing one plus 50 yards.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's gigantic.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: Welch, I mean, it's one of those things that it's a game that was already won.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to give them some reps.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: See someone that worked hard.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_00]: I like that move for Brip Metables, even if the kick didn't go in.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: But as you said, Sandell is gonna be the guy moving forward and that's apparent after today.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, by-per-five on Red Zone scoring changes for Oklahoma, that's how the Perth Vimble is going to enjoy.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Still need to get a little bit more consistent on 3rd Dan, I think, 6th or 13 for Oklahoma.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: You saw a week ago, despite tacking the players, we mentioned a couple of really nice 3rd Dan conversions, but I think part of that is going to be as they get more and more confidence in build this running game.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's gonna help you stay out of third and long.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: Things like that, another part of that too, they'll be, you get like a Fassou C-back at left tackle, then that should be another big way towards another physical whole can body that can try and move guys off the line of scrimmage.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see there, it was a bum trip out here to Philly.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: We had a great time here on a Thursday and a Friday.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Not a lot going today though, as this one was pretty,
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: pretty dry, which I think it again is a big sign of growth for the Circle of Holmati, but it was a situation where you need to bring your own energy.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think everyone could have forgiven the Circle of Holmati, it came out here.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was like seven, nothing at the end of the first quarter, 14, nothing until like a late score in the second quarter and then get that thing going.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: No, it felt like,
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma blitzed out to a 25 nothing and credit to Temple for continuing to play But I think you saw like the energy was sucked at a typical sideline immediately because Oklahoma just came out here and ended the game in the first row game of the year Yeah, good teams don't mess around and know you did not mess around that's what
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: impresses me sure it lagged a little bit in the third quarter but when oh you needed it to turn out some good efficient offense the sooner's absolutely did that so I mean that's the most important thing and like I said good teams don't screw around.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's just been so long since they go ahead of defense and they can rely on like this.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's a big part.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's the old thing, right?
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Deepens travels, well, whether this was a rockiest atmosphere or whether it was a kind of a library.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oakland didn't really have to create tons of juice for themselves or else, like, how they're going to get fired up, because David is coming out, flat over the field, hit him.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: big negative plays.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really really big to start things off here and that's certainly going to serve Oklahoma well because you look at college football and there are teams that have screwed around left right in center.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was still, I'm not saying I'm a state, it's because a whole more anything but I was state in a dogfight late and it's Arkansas state on the road, you look at some of the other things like Texas, it took the arch.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: forever to get anything completed going now that game's still going on but it was 14 to three I think it halftime gets you tap and arched head like a moment where five trading completions in an interception like even the by comparison the sputters
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: for Oklahoma's offense, from what we saw from week one, like this looks like a much better unit already.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder how much of that is just simply new offensive line and how much of that is, hey, when you play against Michigan, you open up the playbook a little bit more.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: So when Ben Arbockel's trying to hide stuff, then you can say, well, we can run every play we ran against Michigan, and that's why I think why you saw the leader for touch pass.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: Looks like, hey, I bet, but Arbockel's got more stuff to get guys to the perimeter, but he's like,
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: very put the touch paths on film.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Why not just do that over to over again and make a proper performance going left.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Go to right.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: Motel guys doing it.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was just a really really like this.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is what great teams do.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: They come out here and they just smoke a team that's supposed to smoke without much drama and it's on to the next one type thing.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: No, it definitely is.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, UC teams like Clemson.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, they lost today, but before that last week, letting Troy stay in the game for all four quarters.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: And that's Clemson's a good football team, even if they have a close win and a lost Georgia Tech.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good football team.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you, though, just didn't leave any doubt in the first 10 minutes of the game.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the biggest thing they look like a winning football team.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: One that can compete for both conference and national titles, which is what we've heard time and time again from Venables.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: it looks like it could at least be a possibility.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it should be really, really fun.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: Business picks up again next week when Auburn comes to town.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be a top 25 matchup in Norman the afternoon kickoff.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: So should we get there anything else before we get out of here?
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: No, just need to get some sleep, get regrouped before we cover the Auburn game obviously, but fun to see a new city, see a new stadium for sure.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: See the sooners look really good and just yeah, have another good day of coverage 42 to 3 and ends there plenty of stuff on Oakland sooners on s i dot com we've got videos from every single interview brink venibals Been our buckled job a tier kindle Dolby Tory play a lot a bunch of the defensive guys You can also have there for Carson's highlights to the fantastic job with that you've got my take away You've got who
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: stock report, Abers report card, Brady Trantham, our new edition working on the PFF Grades right now, Oklahoma Seniors on SI.com.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: You're just looking for the videos, head over to John's YouTube page John Hoover Media.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's the place to go there.
