- 2:06Speaker 1: super fan, ladies and gentlemen. He'll be at the laugh
- 2:09Speaker 1: Camp performing October twenty fifth and twenty sixth in Saint Paul.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Zach Martina whats up.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I feel blessed hashtag blessed that I get to talk
- 2:22Speaker 3: to you twice a year.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Every part of the Lion's recent ascension has been documented
- 2:27Speaker 1: through you on this podcast.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We were there.
- 2:32Speaker 1: When you were coming, when you hired Dan Campbell, when
- 2:36Speaker 1: you were coming out of the disaster, when you got
- 2:38Speaker 1: Jared Goff. We were there as you started to show
- 2:42Speaker 1: some gumption and beat the Packers in a meaningless but
- 2:46Speaker 1: pride filled last game of the season. We were there
- 2:49Speaker 1: when you ran to the NFC Championship game and should
- 2:52Speaker 1: have gone to the super Bowl. And now we are
- 2:55Speaker 1: here as you are one of the COMMONFC Super Bowl
- 3:02Speaker 1: representative picks amongst experts, as you are four and one
- 3:07Speaker 1: and you are coming to Minnesota to take on the
- 3:10Speaker 1: surprising five and zero Minnesota Vikings. This, ladies and gentlemen,
- 3:15Speaker 1: is what we refer to as a recap. But Zach,
- 3:18Speaker 1: after all of that, and we have arrived in this
- 3:21Speaker 1: moment where I think, and you correct me if I'm wrong,
- 3:24Speaker 1: because I don't pay attention to every minute of Detroit
- 3:27Speaker 1: Lions football, like this has to be the highest regular
- 3:32Speaker 1: season moment.
- 3:33Speaker 4: This is no, this is this is absolutely the biggest game.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I mean Dallas having played Dallas last week and you
- 3:40Speaker 3: know whooping them that that felt great, But the entire
- 3:42Speaker 3: time I'm watching the Dallas game, even leading up to
- 3:44Speaker 3: the Dallas game, I'm like, I hope everybody remembers we
- 3:47Speaker 3: have Minnesota next week, like they're on a by they
- 3:50Speaker 3: are coming back, and I called this. When I was
- 3:53Speaker 3: at ACME, I was like, listen, Sam Darnold is gonna start,
- 3:57Speaker 3: because originally that was the plan, and he is going
- 4:00Speaker 3: to be the guy. He's been mismanaged his entire career,
- 4:03Speaker 3: and he's gonna do it. And as soon as JJ
- 4:06Speaker 3: went down, I started getting messages from people that came
- 4:08Speaker 3: to those ACME shows, and sure as hell, every week,
- 4:11Speaker 3: boom boom, They're like, you were right.
- 4:13Speaker 4: You called it, you called it. I can't believe it.
- 4:14Speaker 4: You called it. And I'm happy to see Sam Donald's doing.
- 4:17Speaker 1: This, but it's weird that you would come on my
- 4:21Speaker 1: show and yes, I'm gonna call it my show and
- 4:24Speaker 1: take credit for our team start.
- 4:29Speaker 4: That's exactly what happens. That's exactly what happened.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I think that's that's an interesting choice on your part.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Here's what I will say. I thought I was not
- 4:37Speaker 1: wholly invested in the record this year, but I was
- 4:40Speaker 1: a believer in some possibility with Sam Donald. I am
- 4:44Speaker 1: very curious to see how far this thing goes. I
- 4:47Speaker 1: am pumped to be facing a team firing on all cylinders.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I would have hated it if you guys would have
- 4:53Speaker 1: lost the fact that you slaughtered like slaughtered Dallas. That
- 4:58Speaker 1: was a beatdown of epic proportions.
- 5:02Speaker 3: To me, was like that was America taking down England
- 5:05Speaker 3: in the Revolutionary War. Like they kept saying, We're in charge,
- 5:07Speaker 3: We're America's team, and then the Lions, who a lot
- 5:10Speaker 3: of people are calling America's team? Myself included, are they
- 5:13Speaker 3: a lot of people?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Are they? Is that happening? Are there a lot of people?
- 5:16Speaker 1: A lot of people in Pontiac. Where's it happening?
- 5:19Speaker 3: You know where it's happening. The only place that matters
- 5:21Speaker 3: the internet. But I felt like it was. I felt
- 5:27Speaker 3: like it was Paul Revere and I don't know the
- 5:29Speaker 3: revolutionaries that were taking down England. Because I'm so sick
- 5:32Speaker 3: of everybody calling Dallas America's team.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I hate Dallas.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They Dallas is America's team. The way Keeping Up with
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Kardashians is America's TV show and family. It's kind
- 5:45Speaker 1: of inarguable, But also you understand why if you're like
- 5:49Speaker 1: a cool, smart person, you don't agree with it, So
- 5:53Speaker 1: I understand why they get to be called that. But
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think we can put an asterisk next to it.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Let me say this, because your season started a little slow,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and I think.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I could explain that.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I don't need you to explain it, but I want
- 6:08Speaker 1: to tell you I really like where you're at because
- 6:12Speaker 1: I think you now look like the NFC Chiefs, right.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You look like you look like the counterpoint. They're like,
- 6:20Speaker 1: extremely fiery offense, you know, dominant defense. We can talk
- 6:24Speaker 1: about Hutchinson in a bit here, but you look like
- 6:27Speaker 1: who we thought you were supposed to look at. And
- 6:29Speaker 1: I would say, weeks one through three you really didn't
- 6:32Speaker 1: look like that team, even though you were kind of
- 6:33Speaker 1: getting by. So this is what I wanted. I wanted
- 6:37Speaker 1: the team that everybody goes Super Bowl like. I want
- 6:40Speaker 1: to see how we stack up. I don't want to
- 6:42Speaker 1: go against somebody who's not ready. I want to see
- 6:45Speaker 1: the full Monty Man.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I think I think that's what we're gonna get this week.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I mean, I my brain would not allow my hearts
- 6:53Speaker 3: to accept the fact that this was in Minnesota. I
- 6:55Speaker 3: do not want this first one to be in Minnesota.
- 6:57Speaker 3: That terrifies me. But you know, a lot of times
- 7:01Speaker 3: the Lions fans show up and they're out there. I mean,
- 7:04Speaker 3: you could hear them chanting. You could hear him chanting
- 7:06Speaker 3: Jared Goffin in Dallas. It was awesome.
- 7:10Speaker 4: You can hear him. Let's go Lions.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I was doing it at home. My little nephew was over.
- 7:14Speaker 3: He couldn't say the words, but he got that clapping
- 7:16Speaker 3: pattern down. It's I don't know, man. The loss of
- 7:20Speaker 3: Hutchinson is going to be very, very difficult for us
- 7:24Speaker 3: to overcome because even when he when he was healthy
- 7:28Speaker 3: and when we had Davenport before he went down with
- 7:30Speaker 3: the trip, he was the only one putting any pressure
- 7:32Speaker 3: on Now.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I will say that our defensive.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Tackle rotation is going to be great, but I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 3: what you guys are.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Doing, we need to pressure Donald.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I'm not worried so much about stopping Aaron Jones and Chandler.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I think we can.
- 7:46Speaker 3: We can clog those lanes. But Donald can't just sit
- 7:48Speaker 3: back there or we are in a lot of trouble.
- 7:50Speaker 3: And that is the That is the thing that I'm
- 7:53Speaker 3: most worried about because obviously it's something I haven't seen. Yeah,
- 7:56Speaker 3: I mean Hutchinson he had eleven sacks last year. Through
- 7:59Speaker 3: five games he had seven and a half.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Like it's crazy.
- 8:02Speaker 4: He was on Defensive Player of the Year.
- 8:05Speaker 1: If you had to distill what happened in the Dallas game,
- 8:08Speaker 1: because to me, this wasn't sometimes a team kicks it
- 8:11Speaker 1: out of another team and it just kind of happens, right,
- 8:15Speaker 1: A couple of mistakes happened and its steam rolls. To me,
- 8:18Speaker 1: that game didn't even though Dallas was making it didn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: feel like that. It just felt like to your point
- 8:24Speaker 1: earlier about with your misguided revolutionary war metaphor, it it
- 8:29Speaker 1: just kind of felt like, No, we're better. This is
- 8:31Speaker 1: a steep. I don't I don't care. We're about Like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: do you think that was more of an offensive We're
- 8:36Speaker 1: better a defensive? We're better a totality because with Jamison
- 8:41Speaker 1: Williams coming around and stuff, to me, it seems like
- 8:44Speaker 1: once the offense gets clicking, if the defense isn't on
- 8:48Speaker 1: top of it, it can just snowball. And mentally, is
- 8:51Speaker 1: that is that what we are? Is that the version
- 8:54Speaker 1: of the Lions that we're walking into?
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean, I gotta I gotta say it again.
- 8:58Speaker 3: It defensively that that hudges and lost really really hurts.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But the Dallas thing was definitely a total team coming
- 9:06Speaker 3: to play and getting it done. But I mean that
- 9:09Speaker 3: a lot of it went back to us getting screwed
- 9:12Speaker 3: last year late in the season on that Taylor Decker
- 9:16Speaker 3: didn't report when like he visibly reports, is that a.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Real thing that you believe that, Like, and I'm not
- 9:20Speaker 1: even saying this to ridicule your thought process, it's a
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm genuinely curious. Do you think that because you did
- 9:28Speaker 1: get screwed? Do you think that they held that in
- 9:32Speaker 1: a way that they walked into this game like this
- 9:35Speaker 1: one's for last year?
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah, because I mean, I mean, ultimately it didn't make
- 9:39Speaker 3: a difference. We got to the NFC Championship and we
- 9:41Speaker 3: blew it, but it would have been the difference between
- 9:44Speaker 3: that and ultimately I think it would have been a
- 9:46Speaker 3: one seed. So we got the buye, which you know,
- 9:49Speaker 3: it was great to see ford Field and a playoff
- 9:52Speaker 3: atmosphere and getting it done. But that was a bit.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I mean, Detroit took out billboards like he reported reported
- 9:59Speaker 3: like it was a bit. I mean, Lions fans for
- 10:02Speaker 3: a long time when they were saying hi are like
- 10:04Speaker 3: high fives to each other, we were going like this,
- 10:08Speaker 3: like just reporting to each other. It was a it
- 10:11Speaker 3: was a it was a thing, and there was a
- 10:14Speaker 3: visceral nature to it for sure.
- 10:16Speaker 1: You think that's a guy, Like, do you think that's
- 10:17Speaker 1: the sort of thing where because of the lack of
- 10:20Speaker 1: success throughout the history of your organization, and now you're
- 10:23Speaker 1: in a moment of success, so anything that unfairly robs
- 10:27Speaker 1: you of that success hurts more than it would for
- 10:30Speaker 1: like the Chiefs who've won a bunch of It's like
- 10:33Speaker 1: if you made like four dollars an hour for thirty
- 10:36Speaker 1: years and then you want a lottery, and then somebody
- 10:39Speaker 1: stole twenty bucks from you, Like, you're probably gonna take
- 10:41Speaker 1: that way more seriously. Yeah, if you've had millions of
- 10:43Speaker 1: dollars your whole life.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Well, I think last year too, it was just such
- 10:47Speaker 3: a delicate like every single second passing was like this
- 10:51Speaker 3: is this is an incredible team and they've been so
- 10:54Speaker 3: fun to watch and we're winning and it's awesome. But
- 10:56Speaker 3: it was a it was a house of cards. It
- 10:58Speaker 3: felt like like we just weren't used to that kind
- 11:01Speaker 3: of success, or especially continued success. And I mean I've
- 11:05Speaker 3: said this before and I hope I don't have to
- 11:08Speaker 3: say it again, but the only place in the world
- 11:10Speaker 3: that the zebra's feast upon the lions is the NFL ugh,
- 11:16Speaker 3: so we are very sensitive to the refs.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Barf hate that.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think I actually, if any comedy club owners are
- 11:27Speaker 1: listening right now, I think you should blackball Zach for
- 11:30Speaker 1: bringing that comment to my show. I think you should
- 11:34Speaker 1: Lewis Lee and a act me. If you're listening, you
- 11:37Speaker 1: know what to do. Don't allow this sort of nonsense
- 11:41Speaker 1: to exist in your green room. What is that? That
- 11:44Speaker 1: has to be a thing that is said amongst the
- 11:47Speaker 1: fan base. What the zebra's feasting on the line?
- 11:50Speaker 4: No, I that's that's the thing I wrote?
- 11:52Speaker 2: Is that an original Zach.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Original Zach Martine. And that's a good joke. I don't
- 11:57Speaker 3: care what you saying.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I hate it more and I hate it last. I
- 12:00Speaker 1: hate it more and I hate it least. That's a
- 12:02Speaker 1: great That's a good joke. It's very good and it's
- 12:04Speaker 1: very dislikable. Yes, what do you make of We'll come
- 12:07Speaker 1: back to the game, but let me detour to the
- 12:08Speaker 1: division a little bit for a moment, because I don't
- 12:11Speaker 1: think I think everybody knew that there could be a
- 12:14Speaker 1: couple of good teams here. You know, the Vikings were
- 12:16Speaker 1: kind of the forgotten team. But it's ridiculously lived up
- 12:20Speaker 1: to the hype. Right. The Bears are foreign to the
- 12:22Speaker 1: Packers are foreign to you. Guys are four and one.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We're five and zero, and it's not like we're playing
- 12:29Speaker 1: terrible teams. What I thought was so fascinating was how
- 12:35Speaker 1: quickly through the first few games, even though they won
- 12:38Speaker 1: a couple of them, everybody went hard at the Bears
- 12:41Speaker 1: and Caleb Williams because he was struggling. I don't know
- 12:44Speaker 1: if you're doing what I'm doing, which and I was
- 12:47Speaker 1: doing it before this past Sunday when he made a
- 12:49Speaker 1: couple of plays that made everybody go, uh oh, you
- 12:53Speaker 1: and me better make a run this year and next.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Because I have a fear that we are looking at
- 13:00Speaker 1: a you know, a guy who's gonna run the division
- 13:04Speaker 1: for a really, really, really long time. I don't know
- 13:06Speaker 1: that I'm right about that, but I'm not. I haven't
- 13:08Speaker 1: fallen into this camp of people who is ready to
- 13:12Speaker 1: just beat on Caleb Williams for the first few games
- 13:15Speaker 1: of his career. I think it's a unique play style,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and I think it's going to take a minute to
- 13:21Speaker 1: figure it out. Patrick Mahomes didn't start a game until
- 13:24Speaker 1: the last game of his first year. This is it's
- 13:27Speaker 1: a tougher situation for Caleb, and I'm worried he's going
- 13:30Speaker 1: to be unbelievable.
- 13:31Speaker 3: I mean, that is certainly a valid concern. Here's what
- 13:34Speaker 3: I'll say about Caleb Williams. I think, if you remember
- 13:38Speaker 3: when Trevor Lawrence was coming out of Clemson, generational talent.
- 13:41Speaker 3: This guy is going to revolutionize the quarterback position. And ultimately,
- 13:45Speaker 3: based on those expectations, he's been kind of a bus
- 13:48Speaker 3: He's been slightly above average, you know, by the eye test.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And I think that if Caleb can and then and
- 13:56Speaker 3: then the next guy like that was Caleb Williams, if
- 13:59Speaker 3: he does not end up being a generational talent, he
- 14:03Speaker 3: will be I think he'll be better than Trevor Lawrence's
- 14:06Speaker 3: for sure. I think the Bears, and I don't like
- 14:08Speaker 3: to say this, but they before they got Caleb Williams,
- 14:13Speaker 3: they spent a lot of time in a lot of
- 14:14Speaker 3: draft capital building up that line, which is huge as
- 14:19Speaker 3: far as you know, a cohesive unit and moving forward,
- 14:22Speaker 3: and then their offense on paper. I mean, as soon
- 14:24Speaker 3: as they got Keenan Allen, You're like, what is happening?
- 14:27Speaker 2: So do this for me?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Then? As it sits. Right now, let's do a who's
- 14:32Speaker 1: real who's not ranked him from from the most legitimate
- 14:35Speaker 1: to the least legitimate. How are you ranking the teams?
- 14:38Speaker 3: That's pretty tough because we haven't even touched on the
- 14:40Speaker 3: Packers set and they I.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Don't know, and I'd prefer not to.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Okay, Well, then I will say, coming in at number four,
- 14:48Speaker 3: the pretender of the league, I think you gotta say
- 14:53Speaker 3: it's Chicago at this point, only because there's still a
- 14:57Speaker 3: lot of season left, still a lot of what could
- 14:59Speaker 3: be grow pains for them, and I might end up
- 15:01Speaker 3: eating Crow on that. There's no league with more parody
- 15:05Speaker 3: than the NFL. So I think it would be Chicago.
- 15:09Speaker 3: And then I'm gonna say it number three.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I'm gonna say, just do it.
- 15:16Speaker 2: You know you want to do it, Just do it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, And that's just because And then and then
- 15:22Speaker 1: you'll go ahead and you'll put the number two team
- 15:24Speaker 1: above that is the team that we absolutely slaughtered, So
- 15:27Speaker 1: keep going, yes.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yes, yes, And I think and then at one is uh,
- 15:31Speaker 3: the Lions, And that is only and I say that
- 15:34Speaker 3: as someone who's a little bit.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Jay, go ahead and clip that. Can we go ahead
- 15:37Speaker 2: and clip that.
- 15:38Speaker 1: This is what we call it. This is what we
- 15:40Speaker 1: call a pre gotcha, go ahead and clip that.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Let me Let me go ahead and clarify though, I
- 15:44Speaker 3: will say that while I see Brian Flores is doing
- 15:47Speaker 3: work on people, I don't know anything about your defense.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Here's the big question mark, because so there are there
- 15:54Speaker 1: are two comparison points that are falling on top of
- 15:58Speaker 1: this year's Minnesota Kings. In twenty sixteen, I believe the
- 16:03Speaker 1: team started six and zero and then they faltered their
- 16:07Speaker 1: way to I believe an eight and eight record, which
- 16:10Speaker 1: is a tough, tough finish. It included a really disappointing
- 16:15Speaker 1: loss to your Lions when they were very bad, that
- 16:20Speaker 1: essentially cost them an opportunity to go to the playoffs
- 16:23Speaker 1: disaster and that looked good, it felt good, and then gonezo.
- 16:27Speaker 1: That was a Sam Bradford year. Now there's another comparison.
- 16:31Speaker 1: It's the nineteen ninety eight comparison. They also started five
- 16:35Speaker 1: and all. There's a lot of really eerily similar statistical
- 16:40Speaker 1: like points scored, point, differential, turnover, like all these things.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And that became because we haven't won a super Bowl.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Probably the most revered team in franchise history.
- 16:53Speaker 4: That was Chris Carter, client, Saucer Moss, all those guys, right.
- 16:57Speaker 1: That was the Moss breakout rookie year. Week five, I
- 17:00Speaker 1: was at Lambeau. So the obvious answer is this team
- 17:05Speaker 1: is probably neither of those teams to me any and
- 17:10Speaker 1: I love Justin Jefferson. I think he's the best wide
- 17:12Speaker 1: receiver in the game. Is incredible, But even the Jefferson
- 17:15Speaker 1: Moss comparisons to me are I can't. I can't. I
- 17:19Speaker 1: don't want to be a part of that. Moss changed
- 17:21Speaker 1: the position and changed the league and things like that.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So I have a really hard time comparing anything to
- 17:28Speaker 1: ninety eight. But here's what I will say. If that's
- 17:30Speaker 1: the spectrum, right, ninety eight is the greatest offense in
- 17:34Speaker 1: the history of the NFL, team that we all feel
- 17:36Speaker 1: like should have won a super Bowl in twenty sixteen
- 17:39Speaker 1: is just a disgusting, disappointing collapse. I think where this
- 17:45Speaker 1: team lands on that spectrum is dictated by the reality
- 17:52Speaker 1: of Brian Flores his defense long term. So last season
- 17:58Speaker 1: this you know, ten weeks or so, this defense has
- 18:02Speaker 1: like the highest blitz rate in the league. It's destroying people,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, they went, oh, that's
- 18:08Speaker 1: what they're doing, and we got throttled to close the season.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Now they've added a bunch of players, they've had time
- 18:18Speaker 1: to add a bunch of wrinkles. I think they have
- 18:20Speaker 1: stuff that nobody's seen that will get unveiled as the
- 18:23Speaker 1: season goes on. But this, this is my big question,
- 18:27Speaker 1: because the talk is that he Flores wants to be
- 18:30Speaker 1: the Shanahan McVeigh tree killer. You know, they have all
- 18:34Speaker 1: these pre snap motions. He wants to be the guy
- 18:37Speaker 1: that ruins that, and so he's doing a lot of
- 18:40Speaker 1: confusion pre snap. He's bringing a bunch of guys a
- 18:43Speaker 1: line you never know what they're in. And I heard
- 18:46Speaker 1: Ben Lieber talking about and he says that the really
- 18:48Speaker 1: difficult thing is everybody's talking about how hard it is
- 18:50Speaker 1: for the quarterbacks. It's also hard for the receivers on
- 18:53Speaker 1: choice routes. They go out, they have to make a decision,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and that's why people are not on the same page
- 18:57Speaker 1: so often when you're watching the Vikings defense. So are
- 19:01Speaker 1: we going to get to a point where Flores's defense
- 19:05Speaker 1: comes undone from a film perspective and people figure it
- 19:10Speaker 1: out and if it does do they have an answer
- 19:12Speaker 1: to that? Or and this is the ore, this is
- 19:15Speaker 1: the ninety eight, This is the Randy Moss, this is
- 19:18Speaker 1: the special thing. Is he truly the Shanahan McVeigh tree killer?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Because this Andrew Van Ginkle thing is really special and
- 19:28Speaker 1: Josh Mattellis is really really special. These are two different guys.
- 19:32Speaker 1: One's a linebacker edge, one's a safety. But they can
- 19:35Speaker 1: both play edge, they can both play linebacker, they can
- 19:37Speaker 1: both drop deep in coverage. And so when you have
- 19:39Speaker 1: two of eleven guys who can do that and a
- 19:42Speaker 1: number of your other guys are really shiftable, there might
- 19:47Speaker 1: be a universe where this thing that Flores has dreamed
- 19:51Speaker 1: up going back to his days with Van Ginkel in Miami,
- 19:56Speaker 1: there might be a world where the league doesn't catch
- 20:01Speaker 1: up this season. Sure, and if that's the case, anything's
- 20:05Speaker 1: possible that then then you skew far towards that this
- 20:09Speaker 1: could be great side.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I think what I think the only thing that will
- 20:12Speaker 3: take because I mean Flores was doing it last year
- 20:14Speaker 3: as well, like everybody was talking about his defense. I
- 20:17Speaker 3: think the most realistic thing that is the downfall of
- 20:22Speaker 3: the Vikings defense within the organization would be if if
- 20:28Speaker 3: Flores is a victim of his own hubris, He's like, Ah,
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'm doing this is incredible, I'm crushing it.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna take this chance. I'm gonna take this chance.
- 20:36Speaker 3: And then he's ignoring what's going on on the other
- 20:38Speaker 3: side of the ball, and he's just like, I'm that good.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I'm not saying that's gonna happen. I'm saying that. I
- 20:43Speaker 3: think that is the most realistic thing that I don't
- 20:46Speaker 3: cause I don't think I mean, unless you guys are
- 20:47Speaker 3: decimated by injuries.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's that's the game that everybody's playing, right,
- 20:51Speaker 1: is hoping that doesn't happen.
- 20:53Speaker 3: No, So I think I think, yeah, I think if
- 20:55Speaker 3: anything happens that the defense goes down, if it's not injuries,
- 20:59Speaker 3: it'll be Flora is a victim of.
- 21:01Speaker 4: His own hubers.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I think the thing that's going to be super interesting
- 21:04Speaker 1: is like I struggle with buying all the way in
- 21:07Speaker 1: because then I'm vulnerable and I get my hopes up.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Then if the team loves and I'm disappointed. So I'm
- 21:12Speaker 1: always more skeptical as a fan. But I think if
- 21:16Speaker 1: the Vikings beat the Lions this week, I think it
- 21:20Speaker 1: becomes really hard to argue their validity from a national standpoint,
- 21:26Speaker 1: because I do think, as much as fans don't want
- 21:29Speaker 1: to hear this, and I don't even agree with it.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I think you can.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Go through the first four games ago, well, the Giants
- 21:35Speaker 1: were not necessarily a good football team, you know, the
- 21:40Speaker 1: and the Vikings were missing Jordan Adison, but the Niners
- 21:44Speaker 1: were without some players, and they've gotten off to a
- 21:46Speaker 1: slow start. The Texans game steam rolled in a really
- 21:50Speaker 1: odd way, really quickly. You know, the Packers, same thing.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Jordan Love's first game back, They're maybe not ready. He
- 21:59Speaker 1: has some turn and overs and it goes the other direction.
- 22:01Speaker 1: And then they battled back in the second half. And
- 22:03Speaker 1: the Jets certainly wasn't convincing, and Aaron Rodgers played bad,
- 22:07Speaker 1: So you could shade it all and you could go, hey,
- 22:10Speaker 1: this is the third team in three decades to have
- 22:15Speaker 1: twenty sacks and ten interceptions or something like that over
- 22:20Speaker 1: the first five there's a bunch of stuff to go, hey,
- 22:24Speaker 1: this is a little bit of maybe not realistic, but
- 22:28Speaker 1: if they come out and they beat the Lions, and
- 22:30Speaker 1: they beat the Lions kind of in a more traditional,
- 22:34Speaker 1: non thumpy way, like I would love it to be
- 22:37Speaker 1: fifty two to zero, right, But if you come out
- 22:41Speaker 1: I think, if you're making me pick between a fifty
- 22:44Speaker 1: two to zero win over the Lions and a twenty
- 22:48Speaker 1: eight to twenty seven win where both teams play well,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I take the twenty eight to twenty seven win every
- 22:54Speaker 1: single time, because that's that's what this team needs against
- 22:58Speaker 1: a good team given.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Competitive Yeah, that's a competitive victory.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And that's that's why this is such a big game.
- 23:04Speaker 2: To me.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's such a big stack up game.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Well, and I mean from a from a Lion standpoint,
- 23:09Speaker 3: this is our first division game, so we are juice
- 23:13Speaker 3: about this and I don't know, man, Like this division
- 23:16Speaker 3: is crazy. What was the stat like within the first
- 23:18Speaker 3: six weeks where the only division since like nineteen eighty
- 23:21Speaker 3: or something like that that has a winning record on
- 23:24Speaker 3: every single team? Like this is this is an exciting
- 23:27Speaker 3: time to be any NFC North fan. You know, you've
- 23:32Speaker 3: got people in Chicago who obviously are super jazzed about
- 23:36Speaker 3: Caleb Williams. I mean, I'm very curious to hear what
- 23:40Speaker 3: your thoughts are on the love for Donald as opposed
- 23:44Speaker 3: to how people felt about Cousins. Is it just a
- 23:46Speaker 3: completely different vibe amongst Vikings fans.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I here's the thing, the only the Donald thing has
- 23:55Speaker 1: been so fun to this point, and I actually think
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's been a gift to the fan base because the
- 24:00Speaker 1: fan base for Kirk's entirety was so split about Kirk,
- 24:05Speaker 1: and they were so split about his departure, and they've
- 24:09Speaker 1: been so split going into the season to not have
- 24:12Speaker 1: to wait to see if JJ panned out, to recognize
- 24:18Speaker 1: that things can be a version of good or a
- 24:21Speaker 1: version of okay without Kirk. Su has pretty much removed
- 24:25Speaker 1: the Kirk dialogue from this city. He like he is
- 24:29Speaker 1: gone in a way that you know, long term, big
- 24:33Speaker 1: money starting quarterbacks are rarely gone from a scene like
- 24:36Speaker 1: out of sight, out of mind. Now. It'll be interesting
- 24:39Speaker 1: when he comes back with a Falcons team this December
- 24:43Speaker 1: to play the Vikings in Minnesota. I think the conversations
- 24:47Speaker 1: will stir back up. And I do think there are
- 24:49Speaker 1: some people who weren't big Kirk people who, especially early
- 24:52Speaker 1: as he struggled to get his legs under him, were
- 24:55Speaker 1: having a pretty good time, probably in text threads and
- 24:58Speaker 1: on the x Mas the X but the X Machine.
- 25:05Speaker 1: But I do I personally have enjoyed the Donald thing
- 25:12Speaker 1: because of the ease of it.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it just happens, yep.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And he's just I will say he didn't have a
- 25:18Speaker 1: very good game against the Jets in in England, but
- 25:22Speaker 1: to this point, he's very much just a guy, right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: And I think there's just something to be said for that.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I think there's something to be said for a reclamation project.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And you know, the chip on his shoulder and the
- 25:35Speaker 1: hope he has and just his willingness to just be
- 25:39Speaker 1: all in and then this I'm not comparing that to
- 25:43Speaker 1: what Kirk had. I'm just saying I just his vibe
- 25:47Speaker 1: combined with Koc's vibe, has been really really enjoyable for
- 25:51Speaker 1: the fan base.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Now I can say that there's a parallel to between
- 25:55Speaker 3: Golf and Darnald as far as reclamation projects, like, oh,
- 25:58Speaker 3: you're just sent off, you're gonna end up being a
- 25:59Speaker 3: bad whatever, and then all of a sudden he is
- 26:04Speaker 3: lights out and people are pleased with what he's doing.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I mean, Donald's doing it quicker than Golf did in
- 26:10Speaker 3: Detroit because Goff we were part of that.
- 26:11Speaker 4: I mean it was Campbell's first year.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I think we won three games, uh, and then kind
- 26:16Speaker 3: of really turned it around the following year.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Do you have any concerns?
- 26:20Speaker 3: And I'm curious about this as just an overall football fan.
- 26:23Speaker 4: You only signed a year contract.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Right, No, it's an awesome problem to app zero concerns.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I know where you're going. I have zero. Is it
- 26:31Speaker 1: about what happens if he stays this excellent all year long?
- 26:34Speaker 1: Is that the question?
- 26:35Speaker 3: Well?
- 26:36Speaker 4: I was just gonna say, do you are you? Are
- 26:37Speaker 4: you gonna have?
- 26:38Speaker 3: Is it gonna be a tough pill to swallow if
- 26:41Speaker 3: he leaves next year?
- 26:42Speaker 1: No? Now here's the thing I don't. I would need
- 26:45Speaker 1: the full context of the situation to answer that question.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But to me, I am rooting for Sam Darnald the
- 26:55Speaker 1: Human because I think it's an amazing story and it's
- 26:58Speaker 1: really really fun. But I am also rooting for something
- 27:01Speaker 1: that I have been a believer in for a really
- 27:04Speaker 1: long time, which is the modern football math equation.
- 27:08Speaker 2: And this is about to touch.
- 27:09Speaker 1: On the rest of the division here, But you know,
- 27:12Speaker 1: this season is a big time season. It's developed into
- 27:16Speaker 1: an opportunity for it to be a big time season.
- 27:19Speaker 1: But this team is walking into an outrageous amount of
- 27:25Speaker 1: cap space this offseason and as well as Donald's been playing.
- 27:30Speaker 1: You're looking around at a team where Jordan Addison is
- 27:32Speaker 1: very very good and Van Ginkle's good and he's on
- 27:35Speaker 1: a two year deal. That's very very good. You know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: you have all Blake Cashman is playing incredible, So you
- 27:41Speaker 1: have all these guys you know, in a really good situation,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and you have all this cap space. So to me,
- 27:48Speaker 1: whether it's Donald, whether it's JJ McCarthy, like, I like
- 27:54Speaker 1: the math of the quarterback room right now, and I
- 27:57Speaker 1: do think that's helping the situation immensely. And so is
- 28:01Speaker 1: there a world where Sam Donald plays exceptional? And I
- 28:03Speaker 1: want him back absolutely, but I don't know how Like
- 28:09Speaker 1: as now we're seeing this is the third example. We
- 28:12Speaker 1: saw Geno Smith, we see Baker Mayfield, and now we're
- 28:15Speaker 1: seeing Sam Donald. And the big question is is an
- 28:20Speaker 1: excellent year by Donald does that lead him into the
- 28:23Speaker 1: Jared Goff Jordan Love conversation for contracts that upper echelon
- 28:29Speaker 1: conversation or is he in the Baker Mayfield Gino Smith conversation?
- 28:33Speaker 1: Because that's a big deal. That's a big gap right there,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and I'm not smart enough. I wouldn't want that decision.
- 28:39Speaker 1: But what I am psyched about. Is a team with
- 28:42Speaker 1: a really strongly built roster with a quarterback that can
- 28:48Speaker 1: get things done with the head coach and still have
- 28:52Speaker 1: the talent around him. Let me ask you, let me
- 28:54Speaker 1: flip the question back to you, because a little baby
- 28:58Speaker 1: over there in Michigan in the glove, you're about a
- 29:01Speaker 1: year away from being on the other side of that.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Jared Goff was the I mean, it's probably not fair.
- 29:07Speaker 1: We should have given Jared Goff the reclamation project. I
- 29:10Speaker 1: mean he he should be included.
- 29:13Speaker 4: But he got to the super Bowl.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he got to the super Bowl.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And you know, once you guys paid him, he's not
- 29:19Speaker 1: being paid like Baker and Gino. So is there any
- 29:24Speaker 1: concern do you think it's it's timed up right with
- 29:29Speaker 1: your young players and everything. Has the drafting been so good?
- 29:32Speaker 1: Is there any concern that as you guys have to
- 29:35Speaker 1: pay Jared Goff what you'll have to pay him, that
- 29:39Speaker 1: his because you always want no matter. Like the funny
- 29:42Speaker 1: thing about Patrick Mahomes is no matter how much you
- 29:44Speaker 1: pay him, he overperformed. And so is there any worry
- 29:49Speaker 1: about the salary cap and Jared Goff going forward? Well?
- 29:55Speaker 3: I think a lot of it has to do, like
- 29:57Speaker 3: you said, with Koc and Darnold, the way that Goff
- 30:01Speaker 3: and Ben Johnson seemed to compliment each other.
- 30:04Speaker 1: You know, let me let me cut you off to
- 30:05Speaker 1: ask you why did Ben not leave last year? He's
- 30:08Speaker 1: the hottest coordinator in the league. Is he truly being
- 30:12Speaker 1: that picky about a head job? Does he have that
- 30:15Speaker 1: much believe in the team? What was the what's the
- 30:18Speaker 1: vibe in Detroit?
- 30:19Speaker 4: I think it's a combination of the two.
- 30:21Speaker 3: And I mean what he vocally came out and said
- 30:23Speaker 3: was we have just we have things that are unfinished
- 30:25Speaker 3: in he gave a very Dan Campbell answer, and he
- 30:28Speaker 3: gave a very like I'm a loyal guy, we have
- 30:31Speaker 3: unfinished things he found. I mean, I think the writing
- 30:33Speaker 3: was on the wall that Aaron Glenn wasn't leaving. You know,
- 30:35Speaker 3: when you have a team that goes to the NFC
- 30:37Speaker 3: Championship and you bring back I mean everyone, including both coordinators,
- 30:43Speaker 3: I think that's I think that's what it came down to.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I think he wasn't worried at all with the offense
- 30:47Speaker 3: he had coming into this year that the offers wouldn't
- 30:49Speaker 3: be there next year.
- 30:50Speaker 1: That's a great that's a great point. And how much
- 30:53Speaker 1: how much did the people in Michigan were like, oh
- 30:55Speaker 1: my gosh, like that guy never buys a sandwich for
- 30:59Speaker 1: the rest of his life.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Were we were?
- 31:01Speaker 3: We were very, very I mean it was one of
- 31:03Speaker 3: those things where it's like that was one of the
- 31:05Speaker 3: biggest offseason acquisitions ever, like to retain.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Not one but both coordinators. It was huge.
- 31:12Speaker 3: But back to your point, with the the math aspect
- 31:14Speaker 3: and everything, I do think a lot of it comes
- 31:17Speaker 3: down to Ben Johnson and Jared Goff because Ben Johnson
- 31:20Speaker 3: has built an offense to Jared Goff as opposed to
- 31:24Speaker 3: Sean McVay, who was like, Hey, this is my offense,
- 31:27Speaker 3: you gotta work around it. I think I think that
- 31:29Speaker 3: has been a huge thing. Our line also is locked
- 31:33Speaker 3: up already, so the offense and then we just I
- 31:36Speaker 3: mean we did resign am and Raw and then Laporte
- 31:40Speaker 3: is on a rookie deal, Gibbs is on a rookie deal.
- 31:42Speaker 3: We just resigned an extension to David Montgomery. So the
- 31:47Speaker 3: only questionable piece on this offense right now as far
- 31:50Speaker 3: as contract goes, is Jamison Williams, who is coming into
- 31:55Speaker 3: what would be his his fifth year next year, and
- 31:57Speaker 3: obviously that's gonna he's gonna command some money. I really
- 32:00Speaker 3: hope he doesn't go anywhere, because everyone in Detroit loves
- 32:02Speaker 3: Jamison Williams. I think that I think the equation comes
- 32:05Speaker 3: in on on the the defensive side. I don't think
- 32:10Speaker 3: I don't think our offense is going to have an issue.
- 32:12Speaker 2: And that's where it always comes in. That's where it
- 32:15Speaker 2: all well.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I think that's the thing though.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I think I think when you think about the offense,
- 32:19Speaker 3: it's not always that the entire offensive line is locked
- 32:22Speaker 3: up and one of the best units in the league,
- 32:25Speaker 3: if not the best.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I really think, what again, it's Patrick Mahomes, so it
- 32:28Speaker 1: doesn't count. It's not fair. But I really think what
- 32:31Speaker 1: the Chiefs did was interesting. They said, Okay, goodbye, Tyreek,
- 32:36Speaker 1: we love you, You're great, goodbye. We are going to
- 32:39Speaker 1: have one quarterback and one playmaker. And everybody keeps going,
- 32:43Speaker 1: we need to get Patrick, you know, we need to
- 32:45Speaker 1: get Patrick Mahomes some weapons. And obviously they hope that
- 32:48Speaker 1: one of these free agent, these lower tier free agents,
- 32:52Speaker 1: or these rookies they draft step up. You know that,
- 32:55Speaker 1: you know, you get people like the Pachecos to step in.
- 32:58Speaker 1: But it is very very clear that once they gave
- 33:01Speaker 1: Patrick that money, they went, Okay, we are not the team.
- 33:05Speaker 1: And it's worked. The two Super Bowls in a row,
- 33:07Speaker 1: they went all defense, all O line, two important guys,
- 33:13Speaker 1: Kelsey Mahomes and so. But I you know, for the Lions,
- 33:17Speaker 1: you can't do that. You can't go all defense, all
- 33:21Speaker 1: O line, Golf and aman Ra because GoF isn't gonna
- 33:27Speaker 1: do to a defense from a scheme standpoint and from
- 33:32Speaker 1: a preparation standpoint. So that that's I'll be curious what
- 33:36Speaker 1: and that's why I'm I'm interested in what's happening in Buffalo.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'll be really interested in whatever the Bengals think they're
- 33:44Speaker 1: doing or are trying to do. But if you have
- 33:46Speaker 1: somebody that good, you know, how do you survive? But
- 33:50Speaker 1: if you don't, if you have somebody who is good
- 33:52Speaker 1: but is not Patrick Mahomes, what's the future. And so
- 33:55Speaker 1: you're saying, you're saying you're hoping to have an offense
- 33:59Speaker 1: in tac and so good that if you hit a
- 34:03Speaker 1: few draft picks on defense you can suffer through the struggle.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Let me yeah, let me put it this way.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Last year we made it to the NFC Championship and
- 34:11Speaker 3: against the past, we were like, maybe not historically but
- 34:14Speaker 3: pretty close to being historically bad.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Our offense was firing. We had that line.
- 34:19Speaker 3: I think when you say Patrick Mahomes and playmaker Kelsey,
- 34:22Speaker 3: I think the unit of an offensive line is a playmaker.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they offensive I think that is that.
- 34:29Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Jared Goff is not good under pressure, but fortunately for us,
- 34:33Speaker 3: we haven't. He hasn't really been under a whole lot
- 34:35Speaker 3: of pressure. So if we have to pay this offense
- 34:39Speaker 3: and we keep it intact, and then we've got a
- 34:41Speaker 3: roll with some you know, bargain bin free agents, guys
- 34:45Speaker 3: on the end of their contracts, rookies, what have you.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I think that it's a similar situation to last year.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And at that point I wonder if people are rising
- 34:56Speaker 3: to the occasion because I'm hoping that this is the case.
- 35:00Speaker 3: But all of a sudden, it's a team that Dan
- 35:02Speaker 3: Campbell's culture, Brad Holmes culture has come around and they
- 35:05Speaker 3: rise to the occasion. Because one thing we haven't talked
- 35:08Speaker 3: about on this episode is, I mean, Dan Campbell, I
- 35:11Speaker 3: don't know if you saw what golf did in the
- 35:15Speaker 3: the the.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Post game, after Dallas.
- 35:18Speaker 3: But like Goff got his game ball and then stopped
- 35:21Speaker 3: at the end of the thing and he gave the
- 35:23Speaker 3: game ball to Dan Campbell because it's like, that's our guy.
- 35:25Speaker 4: No one gives this guy any credit in the locker room.
- 35:28Speaker 3: He's always given us game balls, and like this team
- 35:31Speaker 3: loves Dan Campbell.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I mean, you want to.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Talk about a player's coach, I think that's I think
- 35:36Speaker 3: that's a huge indicator. We're gonna lose these coordinators at
- 35:38Speaker 3: some point, but Dan Campbell, for all intents and purpose,
- 35:41Speaker 3: is going to be around for a while. So if
- 35:43Speaker 3: you're playing for a guy that you'll run through a
- 35:44Speaker 3: wall for, are you going to overexceed because he knows
- 35:47Speaker 3: how to talk to you.
- 35:49Speaker 1: So another thing that I think is is super important
- 35:53Speaker 1: in that same line of conversation is that every team,
- 35:56Speaker 1: if they're super honest, has the thing that they're just
- 36:00Speaker 1: it's a little bit worried about. Maybe it's due to
- 36:02Speaker 1: past football, you know, damage they have baggage, or maybe
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's the reality of their current situation. Like I think,
- 36:09Speaker 1: if you're a Vikings fan, you know, somewhere in the
- 36:12Speaker 1: back of your mind you go, is this new Sam
- 36:15Speaker 1: Donald At some point in a really important moment, going
- 36:19Speaker 1: to turn into the old Sam Donald. Like we said
- 36:22Speaker 1: when the Vikings went to the NFC Championship against the Eagles,
- 36:26Speaker 1: and there was a lot of stuff other stuff going
- 36:28Speaker 1: on in that game, but all season it felt like
- 36:31Speaker 1: we were getting away with it, like, oh my gosh,
- 36:33Speaker 1: you're just waiting for case Keenum to have a moment
- 36:36Speaker 1: like that is more what Then he throws the pick,
- 36:39Speaker 1: the bad pick on our side of the field early
- 36:41Speaker 1: in the NFC Championship, So I think you're worrying about
- 36:44Speaker 1: that a little bit. If you're a Viking fan. Everybody
- 36:47Speaker 1: loves the kicker, but you're never You're never gonna feel
- 36:50Speaker 1: good about a kicker. And tell the Super Bowl clock
- 36:54Speaker 1: has clicked zero and you've won the game. No Viking
- 36:58Speaker 1: will ever And if you're sitting at home saying it,
- 37:00Speaker 1: I just don't think you're a fun person to be around.
- 37:03Speaker 1: If you're that confident in something that's burned you that much.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I don't want to ride in a car with you,
- 37:08Speaker 1: I don't want to go to dinner with you. Hard
- 37:10Speaker 1: pass on everything you do. But for you, guys, is
- 37:15Speaker 1: there anywhere in the back of your head as much
- 37:17Speaker 1: as he's a player's coach as great as he is.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Do you have that and as much as you wouldn't
- 37:23Speaker 1: want anybody else, you wouldn't change it? Are you able
- 37:27Speaker 1: to shake that couple different choices in that NFC Championship
- 37:31Speaker 1: game and you're in the super Bowl? Like, he has
- 37:34Speaker 1: had a decision making hand in some pretty pinnacle moments
- 37:42Speaker 1: in important games that haven't gone your way? Is that
- 37:45Speaker 1: a thing that sits behind you going, what's he gonna do? Like?
- 37:50Speaker 1: Do you worry about it at all?
- 37:52Speaker 3: I don't have any issue with Dan Campbell's decision making
- 37:55Speaker 3: because he stands by it and he doesn't change like
- 37:58Speaker 3: it's worked for us so far, or as the NFC
- 38:00Speaker 3: Championship goes. Yeah, you can say whatever you want about
- 38:03Speaker 3: the calls that he made, But the number of balls
- 38:06Speaker 3: that hit receivers in the hands in that second half
- 38:10Speaker 3: and were dropped was I mean, as a Lions fan,
- 38:14Speaker 3: something I hadn't seen since I was a kid, Like,
- 38:17Speaker 3: it was so many drops. So it wasn't any one
- 38:21Speaker 3: thing as far as Dan Campbell goes, And like, am
- 38:23Speaker 3: I worried about anything? Yeah, we've had some terrible coaches.
- 38:26Speaker 3: We've had some coaches that haven't had their fair shake.
- 38:28Speaker 3: A'lla Jim Caldwell like he had a I don't know
- 38:31Speaker 3: why we got rid of him. Ultimately, I'm glad we
- 38:33Speaker 3: did because it got us here. And the only thing
- 38:36Speaker 3: I worry about with Dan Campbell is I as as
- 38:39Speaker 3: a fan of the Detroit Lions. I love Dan Campbell
- 38:42Speaker 3: so much that I want him to succeed and I
- 38:45Speaker 3: will be sad if he doesn't. That's the only thing
- 38:48Speaker 3: I have. I'm like, just tell me this isn't fool's gold,
- 38:51Speaker 3: and I don't think it is, but having gone through
- 38:54Speaker 3: what we've gone through, I mean it's there.
- 38:56Speaker 1: That is, uh, weirdly sad and pathetic relatable.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Well, I'm glad you ended that with relatable because if
- 39:05Speaker 3: you'd have just ended at weirdly sad, I'm going dark.
- 39:08Speaker 4: I'm going dark, buddy.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Uh.
- 39:12Speaker 1: We're gonna close on something interesting, which is a very
- 39:15Speaker 1: dumb thing to do because this show doesn't come out
- 39:17Speaker 1: till Thursdays. Uh, and we're recording on a Tuesday. But
- 39:21Speaker 1: I just want to hear you respond to this. Uh, Well,
- 39:25Speaker 1: we've been recording. DeVante Adams has been traded to the Jets.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Are you serious?
- 39:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:31Speaker 4: H whatever. I don't think it's gonna help. I think
- 39:37Speaker 4: I think that.
- 39:37Speaker 3: I mean, let's go back to Geno Smith and uh
- 39:41Speaker 3: Sam Darnold. The Jets can't handle a quarterback.
- 39:45Speaker 4: They just can't.
- 39:45Speaker 3: They it's not doing anything now all of a sudden,
- 39:47Speaker 3: given Aaron Rodgers the rains, but he's just gonna throw
- 39:49Speaker 3: it up. He's still throwing picks that cost him the game.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Their defense is supposed to be stacked, and they're not
- 39:55Speaker 3: blowing or they're not stopping anyone. Definitively and honestly, at
- 39:59Speaker 3: this point, I think DeVante Adam is as big a problem,
- 40:04Speaker 3: if not a bigger problem for them as Aaron Rodgers.
- 40:08Speaker 4: What did they send? What did they trade?
- 40:10Speaker 1: I'm not a guy who likes to really do the research,
- 40:13Speaker 1: so let me pull it up here.
- 40:15Speaker 3: It looks like it is the Raiders will receive a
- 40:18Speaker 3: conditional third round pick that couldn't prove to a second
- 40:21Speaker 3: round selection.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Oh great, thanks for doing my job, ladies and gentlemen,
- 40:25Speaker 1: thank you. Cool.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Listen, if there's one thing a Lions fan is, it's helpful.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Why don't you just send this? Why don't you just
- 40:32Speaker 1: send this to my boss? As zach I appreciate you.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Maybe they'll put in a good word with me with
- 40:37Speaker 3: the Lions organization, because I think they're still a little
- 40:40Speaker 3: bitter about what I did on that Matt Patricia stuff.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I think you should still be doing the Matt Patricia stuff.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I think the Matt Patricia character should evolve to just
- 40:49Speaker 1: being a a Lion super fan and you should still
- 40:53Speaker 1: be How funny would it be doing is like after
- 40:56Speaker 1: you guys won, You know how they have like it's
- 40:59Speaker 1: the had the Walking Dead and then they would have
- 41:02Speaker 1: the Talking Dead afterwards.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Sure, how funny would it be if you.
- 41:05Speaker 1: As Patricia after Dan Campbell's press conference you did the
- 41:09Speaker 1: After Campbell starring Matt Patricia where he just critiques Dan
- 41:14Speaker 1: Campbell's press conferences.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Oh my god, call it chunky soup, because I will
- 41:19Speaker 3: tell you, I will tell you this that it would
- 41:24Speaker 3: be so funny because Matt Patricia already looks like.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Most football fans on a Sunday.
- 41:28Speaker 3: You know, yeah, like he's just got crumbs in his
- 41:30Speaker 3: beard and everything.
- 41:32Speaker 4: I would love that.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I also did think about going in and trying to
- 41:35Speaker 3: beat Dan Campbell, but I don't think my heart could
- 41:37Speaker 3: handle what it would take for me to get into
- 41:40Speaker 3: that kind of physical shape.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, you die in the gym
- 41:44Speaker 1: trying to become Dan Campbell, and for the sake of
- 41:48Speaker 1: your family and this program, we need you to avoid that.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm not gonna do it.
- 41:54Speaker 3: I will say that those press conferences were a brutal
- 41:56Speaker 3: so I don't want to do that anymore.
- 41:58Speaker 1: What do you think the score is this weekend?
- 42:00Speaker 2: Boy?
- 42:00Speaker 1: What do you got for a prediction?
- 42:03Speaker 3: This is a tough one because, like I said, that
- 42:06Speaker 3: question mark of pass rush for me is something that
- 42:08Speaker 3: I just can't wrap my head around. What I will
- 42:11Speaker 3: say is, I think coming off of that win in Dallas,
- 42:16Speaker 3: I was worried that there was going to be some
- 42:18Speaker 3: sort of hangover based on the blowout of it.
- 42:21Speaker 4: I think the.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Tough loss of Aiden Hudginson is going to galvanize the
- 42:27Speaker 3: team against that though. So I do think it's going
- 42:29Speaker 3: to be a competitive game, and I am taking the
- 42:33Speaker 3: Lions to win, but not to cover.
- 42:36Speaker 1: The Lions to win, but not to cover no score prediction.
- 42:41Speaker 1: So I will go I just don't know.
- 42:44Speaker 4: What the line is. I just don't know what the
- 42:45Speaker 4: line is.
- 42:46Speaker 3: But I would say my gut is saying something like
- 42:49Speaker 3: thirty to twenty seven, twenty eight to twenty seven, something
- 42:52Speaker 3: like that, like within three or four points.
- 42:54Speaker 2: So I think the.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I think the defenses show up despite there being a
- 42:59Speaker 1: lot of offensive ability on both sides of the ball.
- 43:02Speaker 2: So I'm gonna go Vikings.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Let me let me try and read your let me
- 43:06Speaker 4: try and read your mind.
- 43:07Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, it's okay. No no, it's okay. Let me
- 43:09Speaker 2: get my very no no, let's say, let me get
- 43:10Speaker 2: my very real pressure and let me get my very
- 43:12Speaker 2: real prediction. Now it's gonna be fun.
- 43:14Speaker 1: It's let's go one hundred and forty six to twelve
- 43:19Speaker 1: Lions twelve Vikings, one hundred and forty six.
- 43:22Speaker 2: I changed it up. Is that just in case?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Is that all field goals? Or is that two touchdowns?
- 43:27Speaker 1: No, pat, No, it's it's four field goals.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You guys are gonna get four field goals.
- 43:31Speaker 4: It's six safeties.
- 43:32Speaker 1: They're all gonna be garbage time field goals.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Yeah there, yeah, like what Dallas did. Dallas had no touchdowns.
- 43:40Speaker 3: They I just had field goals.
- 43:41Speaker 1: To your turn time, you're gonna get your You actually
- 43:43Speaker 1: predicted exactly right. If I had to predict it. I
- 43:45Speaker 1: think it'll probably be six garbage time safeties for you guys,
- 43:49Speaker 1: one hundred and forty six or twelve ladies and gentlemen.
- 43:52Speaker 1: The great Zach Martina. Go see him in Saint Paul's
- 43:57Speaker 1: You Heard the You Heard the dates in the intro
