- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Welcome to Friday morning in the capital city of the
- 0:08Speaker 2: free world. This is 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and
- 0:11Speaker 2: Chili in the morning. Thank you for finding us. Thank
- 0:14Speaker 2: you for waking up with us. Thank you for wrapping
- 0:17Speaker 2: up the week with us. We've got to get it
- 0:20Speaker 2: started somewhere. So why not now? You feeling good this
- 0:24Speaker 2: morning as we head into a weekend? How can you
- 0:26Speaker 2: not feel great about that? Chili, why are you feeling
- 0:29Speaker 2: good this morning?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Well, I'm feeling good because it is National Dolly Parton
- 0:36Speaker 3: Day today.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:38Speaker 4: 9 to 5.
- 0:39Speaker 2: See what they did there? September 25th.
- 0:41Speaker 4: I know. Right. And I believe that there is a lot.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I know that there are a lot of different celebrations
- 0:48Speaker 3: in different cities across the U.S., but I read that.
- 0:52Speaker 3: At the Reach, at the Kennedy Center, they're going to
- 0:55Speaker 3: have some live music and a presentation about Dolly's Kennedy
- 0:59Speaker 3: Center Honors Legacy. It's an outdoor screening of nine to
- 1:02Speaker 3: five as well taking place today. So that's why I'm
- 1:06Speaker 3: feeling good.
- 1:06Speaker 4: I love that.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We are celebrating a queen.
- 1:11Speaker 2: An incredible American life should be celebrated in this great
- 1:15Speaker 2: American city, especially at the Kennedy Center Honors. That reach
- 1:19Speaker 2: is very beautiful outside. I hope that the weather is
- 1:22Speaker 2: perfect for this because that's what Dolly would want. So
- 1:25Speaker 2: she'll smile upon us.
- 1:26Speaker 3: At least it won't hopefully rain. There's not any call
- 1:29Speaker 3: for rain for that.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Why are you feeling good?
- 1:31Speaker 2: I am feeling great. Number one, obviously, because it is Friday.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Number two, because for the first time, I don't know
- 1:36Speaker 2: how long my blood pressure is actually in a really
- 1:39Speaker 2: good place. My doctor had some news for me. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: I am very, very happy that step by baby step,
- 1:47Speaker 2: things seem to be getting better. I just have to
- 1:51Speaker 2: maintain and not do anything to screw it up. And
- 1:54Speaker 2: if you know me, I'll find a way to screw
- 1:56Speaker 2: something up. But you know what? Everything happens for a reason.
- 2:01Speaker 2: And I am someone who believes deeply in that. So
- 2:04Speaker 2: I am going to embrace this moment and I'm going
- 2:06Speaker 2: to use it as momentum to keep going. Because That's
- 2:11Speaker 2: sometimes what you need is just something positive to spark
- 2:16Speaker 2: or re-spark a fire that can just burn, burn for
- 2:20Speaker 2: you and give you something to press on toward. So
- 2:23Speaker 2: why are you feeling good? The number is 866-927-4361. Tell
- 2:26Speaker 2: us as we get into Friday. We got to get
- 2:28Speaker 2: to the news, though. Top stories at the top of
- 2:30Speaker 2: the hour. What's going on today?
- 2:32Speaker 3: Well, we know that the weather has been wreaking havoc
- 2:35Speaker 3: along the northeastern coast. And because of that, the first
- 2:40Speaker 3: day of the Ocean's Calling Music Festival at Ocean City
- 2:43Speaker 3: has been canceled. I've got the latest on that coming
- 2:46Speaker 3: up in just a few minutes.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 2:52Speaker 3: The president hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White
- 2:56Speaker 3: House for a state dinner last night. Meanwhile, some media
- 2:59Speaker 3: outlets are saying that they were denied access to cover
- 3:03Speaker 3: Xi's arrival despite a court order. A teenage boy is
- 3:07Speaker 3: recovering after being shot at Prince George's Community College in
- 3:11Speaker 3: Largo yesterday. Police say that he walked into a nearby
- 3:13Speaker 3: medical center with a non-life-threatening injury and investigators believe that
- 3:18Speaker 3: it was an isolated incident. The Kennedy Center is going
- 3:21Speaker 3: to remain closed through at least September 30th now because
- 3:24Speaker 3: of safety concerns inside the building. Officials cite issues including
- 3:29Speaker 3: water damage, electrical hazards, and corroded exterior panels, and the
- 3:34Speaker 3: closure will be assessed weekly. Three 16-year-olds have accepted plea
- 3:38Speaker 3: deals for their roles in a fight at a Navy
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yard Chipotle back in May. As part of the deals,
- 3:44Speaker 3: they're going to have to write apology letters to the
- 3:47Speaker 3: restaurant staff and customers. Ocean's Calling in Ocean City, Maryland
- 3:51Speaker 3: has canceled today's opening day because organizers say they just
- 3:55Speaker 3: couldn't safely finish building the festival site during the bad weather.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Today's lineup had included Dave Matthews Band, Hootie and the Blowfish,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and Ludacris. Now, tomorrow and Sunday are so far still
- 4:07Speaker 3: scheduled to go on. And a new survey finds travel
- 4:10Speaker 3: rewards are really helping Americans take trips that they otherwise
- 4:13Speaker 3: could not afford. About half say rewards made a trip
- 4:16Speaker 3: possible and nearly three quarters say They make travel spending
- 4:20Speaker 3: feel more worthwhile. Forecast for today, partly cloudy and breezy.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Highs are going to be around 73 right now, though,
- 4:27Speaker 3: 50 in Laytonsville.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And that is the news. Top stories at the top
- 4:32Speaker 2: of the hour. It's what you get with Toby and
- 4:34Speaker 2: Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM. And we
- 4:37Speaker 2: also talk about you in the hopes that maybe we
- 4:39Speaker 2: can inspire you to have a better day or maybe
- 4:41Speaker 2: turn a day that's already started kind of Well, for
- 4:44Speaker 2: lack of a better word, off, around. Your morning mindset
- 4:47Speaker 2: is on the way, and in honor of this best
- 4:49Speaker 2: of the 80s and 90s weekend, we've got the lyrics
- 4:52Speaker 2: to a song which might just help you with whatever
- 4:55Speaker 2: you're going through. Don't go too far. With Washington's variety
- 5:00Speaker 2: from the 80s, 90s, and today, you are on 97.1 WASH-FM,
- 5:05Speaker 2: waking up with Toby and Chili in the morning. And
- 5:07Speaker 2: it's time now if you're just finding us for your
- 5:09Speaker 2: morning mindset. So what is your morning mindset? Well, it's
- 5:13Speaker 2: when we find a quote and share it with you
- 5:14Speaker 2: to get you into a good headspace. And on Fridays,
- 5:17Speaker 2: we don't just find a quote. We find a song
- 5:19Speaker 2: lyric from a song from the 80s or 90s because
- 5:22Speaker 2: every Friday at 5 p.m., we kick off our best
- 5:24Speaker 2: of the 80s and 90s weekend. That's right. And we're
- 5:27Speaker 2: going to jump right now into our 97.1 Watch FM
- 5:30Speaker 2: time machine. We're going to go back to 1998 when
- 5:36Speaker 2: you turned on the radio and your heart is playing
- 5:38Speaker 2: Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey when you believe. And the
- 5:42Speaker 2: lyric this morning to keep in mind as we get
- 5:44Speaker 2: through Friday and into the weekend is there can be
- 5:46Speaker 2: miracles when you believe. There can be miracles when you believe.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And believing doesn't mean everything's going to magically work out
- 5:56Speaker 2: the way you want it to, right? It doesn't. But
- 5:59Speaker 2: if you've already decided that something can't happen, Chances are
- 6:03Speaker 2: good you're never going to give it a shot. So
- 6:06Speaker 2: before you cross whatever that was off of your life's
- 6:09Speaker 2: to-do list, give yourself the permission to believe, maybe just
- 6:14Speaker 2: for today, just for the moment, that maybe, maybe what
- 6:18Speaker 2: you believe in can still happen. There can be miracles
- 6:21Speaker 2: when you believe Whitney and Mariah, two unbelievable voices together
- 6:26Speaker 2: from 1998. As we get into this best of the
- 6:29Speaker 2: 80s and 90s weekend, remember it starts today at 5
- 6:31Speaker 2: with Sabrina Conti. And I hope your morning mindset helps
- 6:34Speaker 2: you with whatever you're going through today. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Tell me you're chilly in the morning. Hang for a
- 6:40Speaker 2: few because.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Coming up next, there's a woman or women, I should say,
- 6:44Speaker 3: are having a very visceral reaction to a viral video
- 6:48Speaker 3: of a mom at a recent baseball game.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Stay there and learn why tongues are wagging this morning. Now,
- 6:57Speaker 2: if you didn't see this floating around the internet a
- 6:59Speaker 2: couple of days ago, chances are good you'll probably see
- 7:02Speaker 2: it at some point in time today. Toby and Tilly
- 7:05Speaker 2: in the morning. It's 97.1 Watch FM. We go to
- 7:08Speaker 2: a baseball game. San Francisco taking on whomever. Don't matter
- 7:12Speaker 2: because nobody was talking about the game. Here's why.
- 7:15Speaker 4: In the video, you see.
- 7:16Speaker 3: A mom with a baby carrier on her chest, a
- 7:20Speaker 3: diaper bag on her shoulder and three containers of food
- 7:24Speaker 3: in her hands as she's shuffling to her seat. And
- 7:26Speaker 3: when she gets to her seat, the person she's with,
- 7:29Speaker 3: presumably her partner, grabs his food and just starts eating it.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Why?
- 7:33Speaker 3: While she's still sitting there with her hands full and
- 7:38Speaker 3: a baby.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And now the play-by-play. Holy smokes, Mike, look at this.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Well, if there's ever a true definition of a multitasking mother,
- 7:46Speaker 5: that is the deal right there.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. And this dude just completely lost me.
- 7:52Speaker 3: In a lot of comments, people are like, well, maybe
- 7:54Speaker 3: she offered to go get the food. Maybe she was
- 7:56Speaker 3: changing the diaper and got the food on the way back.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I want to really emphasize the reason women are having
- 8:01Speaker 3: such a visceral reaction to this video is because they
- 8:04Speaker 3: see themselves in her where they have been in situations
- 8:08Speaker 3: where they're carrying the mental and sometimes physical load for
- 8:11Speaker 3: the family. It's how he didn't react when she got
- 8:15Speaker 3: to the seat. And here's the other thing.
- 8:16Speaker 2: To the people who have responded in a very misogynistic
- 8:20Speaker 2: sort of way, saying things, well, who paid for the tickets?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Who paid for the food? Who paid for the gas
- 8:25Speaker 2: right there?
- 8:26Speaker 4: The car?
- 8:26Speaker 1: The home?
- 8:27Speaker 2: You are not helping yourself by arguing in favor of
- 8:33Speaker 2: something that's on video very clearly showing that the guy
- 8:36Speaker 2: has douchebag-itis.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I believe my husband, you and even our producer crash
- 8:41Speaker 3: in that same scenario. You would probably grab all the
- 8:45Speaker 3: something off her hands, take the bag.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Maybe take the baby.
- 8:48Speaker 3: But you would make sure she was situated and comfortable
- 8:50Speaker 3: first before you opened your food and started chowing down.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I would have. Stood up with my gimpy knee and
- 8:55Speaker 2: I would have been there to help in whatever way
- 8:57Speaker 2: I can. So congratulations, dog. You made yourself look completely
- 9:02Speaker 2: moronic in front of the world. And now you're the
- 9:06Speaker 2: subject of a bunch of conversations, none of them good.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Hope you had fun at the ballgame. But it's still
- 9:11Speaker 3: not too late to come correct. So maybe this could
- 9:14Speaker 3: be a teaching moment, a learning moment, although you should
- 9:16Speaker 3: have learned it by this age. But anyway, moving forward,
- 9:19Speaker 3: be a little more helpful, please.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Till then enjoy sleeping on the couch 97.1 wash fm
- 9:24Speaker 2: toby and chili in the morning the news chili what
- 9:27Speaker 2: can we expect i gotta go calm down now a.
- 9:29Speaker 3: New survey finds that life maxing is on the rise
- 9:34Speaker 3: what does that mean oh i'll tell you in just
- 9:37Speaker 3: a few.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Central park tomorrow night it's 97.1 wash fm we are

- 10:27Speaker 3: the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.

- 10:47Speaker 3: is facing a federal lawsuit after the EEOC says that
- 10:51Speaker 3: it revoked a Maryland man's job offer because of his disability.
- 10:55Speaker 3: The agency says that MedStar demanded he stop an IV
- 10:58Speaker 3: treatment and denied his request for accommodations. Montgomery County teachers
- 11:04Speaker 3: and school leaders are clashing over a new contract. The
- 11:07Speaker 3: teachers union says the school system is proposing no raises,
- 11:10Speaker 3: while MCPS says that's inaccurate and says that it's facing
- 11:14Speaker 3: a serious budget problem.
- 11:16Speaker 4: The D.C.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Council is set to consider the final master plan for
- 11:20Speaker 3: redeveloping the RFK campus. Changes include a redesign of Kingman Commons,
- 11:25Speaker 3: a new neighborhood connection, and the addition of the D.C.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Armory.

- 11:33Speaker 3: will see detours as construction moves forward on a new interchange,

- 11:44Speaker 3: down their financial goals to enjoy life more now. A

- 12:07Speaker 2: 97.1 Washoe FM. We're Toby and Chili in the morning. Question.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Could your favorite football team actually wreck your relationship? Got
- 12:18Speaker 2: somebody hanging on the line who wants to get into
- 12:21Speaker 2: this this morning.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Why?
- 12:22Speaker 2: Well, she'll tell us, don't go anywhere. And by the way, remember,
- 12:27Speaker 2: if you have some thoughts or advice you want to share, 866-927-4361.
- 12:33Speaker 2: When you find yourself in the midst of some sort
- 12:35Speaker 2: of a dilemma, we are here to help at 866-927-4361.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 12:43Speaker 2: She is in Petworth this morning. Who is this?
- 12:46Speaker 6: Good morning. This is Alyssa.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Well, good morning, Alyssa. So you and.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And your boyfriend are arguing over football?
- 12:55Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 12:56Speaker 6: I am a Dolphins fan and my boyfriend is a
- 13:00Speaker 6: Patriots fan. And I just, I'm getting really agitated because
- 13:05Speaker 6: every time we hang out, he just like... knocks on
- 13:08Speaker 6: my team and it's just like i know the dolphins
- 13:11Speaker 6: are gonna lose almost every game but like that's my
- 13:13Speaker 6: team i i just i'm thinking of breaking up with
- 13:16Speaker 6: him honestly because he just like.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Won't stop okay this is a bigger problem than i
- 13:20Speaker 2: thought it might be and.
- 13:22Speaker 4: It sounds like you've brought this up to him before.
- 13:24Speaker 6: It's huge yeah and it's just it's not working it's
- 13:27Speaker 6: really getting on my.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Nerves This sounds very precarious. So specifically, your question for
- 13:33Speaker 2: the class would be.
- 13:34Speaker 6: Am I overreacting for thinking about breaking up with this guy?
- 13:37Speaker 3: Listen, there are a lot of couples who are in
- 13:39Speaker 3: healthy relationships and they don't love the same teams. This
- 13:42Speaker 3: sounds like the root of the problem is he does
- 13:45Speaker 3: not respect when you say stop doing it.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I know they have struggles, but leave my dolphins alone.
- 13:52Speaker 2: All right, let's put this before the class.
- 13:55Speaker 3: All right, Alyssa wants to know, is she overreacting for
- 13:58Speaker 3: considering breaking up with her boyfriend for being way too
- 14:01Speaker 3: competitive on game days?
- 14:04Speaker 4: 866-927-4361.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Remember, there's no such thing as bad advice when somebody
- 14:12Speaker 2: is in need of a little help. So keep that
- 14:14Speaker 2: in mind and call us, all right? We're going to
- 14:16Speaker 2: gather some opinions for you, ma'am.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Okay, thank you.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Remember, it is always a good thing to help your
- 14:23Speaker 2: neighbors here in the DMV when they're going through something. 97.1,
- 14:27Speaker 2: watch FM at 866-927-4361. Toby and Chili in the morning,
- 14:32Speaker 2: and we were just talking to Alyssa from Petworth, who
- 14:35Speaker 2: has a bit of a problem with her boyfriend when
- 14:37Speaker 2: it comes to football.
- 14:39Speaker 3: She's a Dolphins fan. He's a Patriots fan. And she
- 14:42Speaker 3: says on game day, he is ruthless and really busts
- 14:45Speaker 3: her chops about her team.
- 14:47Speaker 4: And she's not happy about it.
- 14:48Speaker 3: So now she's wondering, is she overreacting for considering breaking
- 14:52Speaker 3: up with him?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Adam in Fairfax, you find this whole conversation to be
- 14:56Speaker 2: somewhat funny.
- 14:59Speaker 5: If you're going to break up over arguing on Sunday
- 15:02Speaker 5: Night Football or, you know, Monday Night Football, I think
- 15:05Speaker 5: there's bigger problems than AFC East.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Preach.
- 15:08Speaker 4: So you think she's being too sensitive?
- 15:10Speaker 5: I mean, listen, I don't know what's going on in
- 15:12Speaker 5: that household, but I mean, it's just a game, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 5: even if you're, I mean, maybe she didn't grow up
- 15:16Speaker 5: with brothers or people busting chops over, you know, when
- 15:19Speaker 5: you watch a game, but that's like, that's part of
- 15:21Speaker 5: the culture as much as hoping they win or lose
- 15:23Speaker 5: or having a couple of beers or wings or betting
- 15:25Speaker 5: on it. I mean, talking trash is part of it.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Yes.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but there's a limit to it. And she said
- 15:30Speaker 3: enough's enough and he just didn't listen.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Well, you know, you'll have these things on football Sunday. Adam,
- 15:35Speaker 2: thanks for taking part.
- 15:37Speaker 5: All right, buddy.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Now over yonder in Potomac, Catherine, got some thoughts.
- 15:43Speaker 7: I think maybe this is time for a healthy communication.
- 15:47Speaker 7: in see how your relationship goes you know how they
- 15:50Speaker 7: say if you can communicate with your partner maybe they're
- 15:53Speaker 7: the one for you this might be that time have her.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Be very upfront and honest about her feelings and the
- 16:00Speaker 3: consequence if he doesn't change put it to the test.
- 16:03Speaker 4: See if you can communicate yep and if.
- 16:04Speaker 2: He can't uh take a picture of you in your
- 16:06Speaker 2: dolphins jersey use that as your profile pic on tinder
- 16:10Speaker 2: and see if you can find a dolphins fan Exactly.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Thank you, Catherine. All right. Let's go back over here
- 16:19Speaker 2: to Alyssa. Thanks for holding.
- 16:24Speaker 6: I think it's about time I find somebody that's a
- 16:28Speaker 6: fan of the Dolphins.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Sounds like a plan.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And in the meantime, let's hope they can somehow get
- 16:33Speaker 3: a win against the Chiefs on Sunday.
- 16:35Speaker 4: True.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Admit it. You just want to be back on Tinder,
- 16:38Speaker 2: don't you? True. 97.1 Washa FM. Top stories at the
- 16:43Speaker 2: top of the hour on the way right around 7, 10. Chili,
- 16:47Speaker 2: what you working on?
- 16:47Speaker 3: Starting next month, airline passengers could actually get less compensation
- 16:51Speaker 3: for some delayed flights. I've got the details on those
- 16:54Speaker 3: changes coming up in just a few minutes.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Joe, Nick, and Kevin, the Jonas Brothers, here at the
- 17:00Speaker 2: end of the month, Capital One Arena. You want to
- 17:03Speaker 2: go to the show? Then don't wonder. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 17:08Speaker 2: We are Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Right around 7.10 after Toby and Chili's top stories, we're
- 17:12Speaker 3: going to ask our nearly impossible question. And if you
- 17:15Speaker 3: get it right, you'll see them at Capital One Arena
- 17:17Speaker 3: September 30th.
- 17:17Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 17:25Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 17:26Speaker 3: The White House hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping for a
- 17:30Speaker 3: state dinner last night.
- 17:32Speaker 4: We've got the latest on that story and others on
- 17:35Speaker 4: the way.
- 17:36Speaker 3: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 17:45Speaker 3: The president hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White
- 17:48Speaker 3: House for a state dinner last night. Now, meanwhile, some
- 17:52Speaker 3: media outlets say that they were denied access to cover
- 17:55Speaker 3: Xi's arrival despite an earlier court order. A teenage boy
- 17:59Speaker 3: is recovering after he was shot at Prince George's Community
- 18:02Speaker 3: College in Largo yesterday. Police say he walked into a
- 18:06Speaker 3: nearby medical center with a non-life-threatening injury, and they believe
- 18:10Speaker 3: it was an isolated incident. Three teens have pleaded guilty
- 18:14Speaker 3: to charges stemming from a brawl that happened at a
- 18:17Speaker 3: Navy Yard Chipotle back in May. They have to write
- 18:20Speaker 3: apology letters, and their cases could be dismissed in about
- 18:24Speaker 3: a year if they follow court requirements. Ocean's Calling in
- 18:28Speaker 3: Ocean City, Maryland, had to cancel today's opening day because
- 18:31Speaker 3: organizers say they just couldn't safely finish building the festival
- 18:34Speaker 3: site during the bad weather. Today's lineup had included Dave
- 18:38Speaker 3: Matthews Band, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Ludacris. Now, tomorrow
- 18:42Speaker 3: and Sunday are currently scheduled to go on. The National
- 18:47Speaker 3: Museum of African American History and Culture is celebrating its
- 18:50Speaker 3: 10th anniversary this weekend. They'll have events including line dancing,
- 18:55Speaker 3: go-go music, and genealogy sessions. And finally, starting October 19th,
- 19:00Speaker 3: airline passengers could get less compensation for some flight delays.
- 19:05Speaker 3: A new DOT rule excludes disruptions like certain maintenance issues,
- 19:10Speaker 3: medical emergencies, and unruly passengers from events that airlines control.
- 19:16Speaker 3: So that potentially would affect meals, hotels, and other perks.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Forecast for today, partly cloudy and breezy. Highs are going
- 19:23Speaker 3: to be around 73 right now, though 51 in Landover.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Toby and chili's nearly impossible question.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Friday what you got.
- 19:32Speaker 4: One in ten people have used this for storage in
- 19:36Speaker 4: their home.
- 19:36Speaker 2: What is it oh this could be a hack eight
- 19:40Speaker 2: six six nine two seven forty three sixty one is
- 19:43Speaker 2: the number here's the question again.
- 19:45Speaker 3: One in 10 people have used this for storage in
- 19:50Speaker 3: their home.
- 19:50Speaker 4: What is it?
- 19:51Speaker 2: Jonas Brothers are coming to town. We got some tickets
- 19:53Speaker 2: for you right now. If you can answer that question correctly,
- 19:57Speaker 2: call us at 866-927-4361. Get the question right and you
- 20:04Speaker 2: We'll head into the Capital One Arena to see the
- 20:07Speaker 2: Jonas Brothers. Thanks to Live Nation on September 30th. Call now.
- 20:12Speaker 2: The game's on.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Kobe and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:18Speaker 2: People are busy in the morning. They might have missed
- 20:19Speaker 2: a question. So here it is again.
- 20:22Speaker 3: One in 10 people have used this for storage in
- 20:26Speaker 3: their home.
- 20:26Speaker 4: What is it?
- 20:27Speaker 2: On this Friday, if you want to see Jonick and Kevin,
- 20:29Speaker 2: you're Jonas Brothers. Capital One Arena, September 30th. Thanks to
- 20:33Speaker 2: Live Nation. These tickets could be yours. Call now. Get
- 20:36Speaker 2: it right when. Let's say good morning to Liz in Springfield.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Good morning and happy Friday, ma'am.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Joe, Nick, and Kevin, these Jonas Brothers tickets are up
- 20:46Speaker 2: for grabs. You got the question. What is your guess?
- 20:50Speaker 7: My guess is an oven.
- 20:52Speaker 2: An oven.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Okay, do you use it as storage?
- 20:56Speaker 1: Um, maybe, yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I do.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'm judging. Do you use the microwave, too?
- 21:02Speaker 1: No, I don't. No, I don't.
- 21:05Speaker 4: That probably gets more usage.
- 21:06Speaker 2: True.
- 21:07Speaker 4: An oven, maybe.
- 21:07Speaker 3: But the danger with using oven as in storage is
- 21:10Speaker 3: not checking it before you preheat it and you could
- 21:12Speaker 3: start a fire or something.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I think that happens.
- 21:14Speaker 2: You have?
- 21:15Speaker 1: I've had that happen like once or twice. It was
- 21:18Speaker 1: still warming up.
- 21:19Speaker 7: It wasn't super hot yet.
- 21:20Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Okay, I'm not going to judge because you are not alone. Wink, wink.
- 21:25Speaker 3: One in ten people have used this for storage. You
- 21:28Speaker 3: guessed oven, and that is the correct answer.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yay!
- 21:32Speaker 8: Oh, my gosh.
- 21:34Speaker 2: The Jonas Brothers, you and a friend are going to
- 21:37Speaker 2: Capital One Arena September 30th. Thanks to Live Nation.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 21:42Speaker 3: So much.
- 21:43Speaker 4: That made my weekend.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Thank you. Oh, yeah, and it hasn't even gotten started yet.
- 21:47Speaker 6: Woo-hoo!
- 21:48Speaker 2: Set that bar high. Who's your favorite Jonas Brothers?
- 21:51Speaker 1: I love them all, seriously.
- 21:53Speaker 4: The whole family.
- 21:54Speaker 2: You're like, I'll take Joe, Nick, and Kevin. Why not?
- 21:56Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 21:57Speaker 7: Why not?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Move over, Priyanka Chopra. I'm here now. Well, you enjoy
- 22:03Speaker 2: the show. Congrats. Have a great time. And thanks for
- 22:05Speaker 2: listening to 97.1 Wash FM this morning.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 22:10Speaker 2: And get back here Monday right after 710. When you
- 22:15Speaker 2: get your top stories at the top of the hour,
- 22:17Speaker 2: you've got a chance at.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Teddy Swims at Capital One Arena, October 13th.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Thanks to our friends at AEG, those tickets could be yours.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Monday with 97.1 Wash FM. Now hang out because next,
- 22:32Speaker 2: a story that we think might just make you feel
- 22:33Speaker 2: good on this Friday.
- 22:34Speaker 3: A Fairfax County elementary school has come up with a
- 22:38Speaker 3: very unusual way to make recess more fun.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Tilly and Tilly in the morning on Friday, 97.1 Wash FM.
- 22:46Speaker 2: It is time now to feel all the feels with
- 22:51Speaker 2: your Feel Good Friday story for this week. Let's forget
- 22:56Speaker 2: about red carpets. At Bailey's Upper Elementary in Fairfax County,
- 23:00Speaker 2: the real star is a mini city built just for recess.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Principal Holly Dowling came up with this idea after the
- 23:10Speaker 2: students were like, we want to improve this at our school.
- 23:12Speaker 2: One of their biggest requests, better recess.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Now, the school is located just off Leesburg Pike, and
- 23:18Speaker 3: it does not have a big grassy field where kids
- 23:21Speaker 3: can run around. So Holly and her team decided to
- 23:24Speaker 3: transform the bus loop behind the building into a mini city.
- 23:29Speaker 3: They've got a traffic garden with bike lanes, stop and
- 23:32Speaker 3: yield signs, roundabouts, crosswalks, even a railroad crossing and a
- 23:37Speaker 3: spot to practice parallel parking.
- 23:39Speaker 2: That's awesome. Now, it cost $ 80, 000. This project took two
- 23:43Speaker 2: years to complete. They paid for it with grants. And
- 23:47Speaker 2: it's not just for fun. You see, the kids are
- 23:49Speaker 2: learning bike and scooter safety. They're studying the rules of
- 23:53Speaker 2: the open road and they take a written test. Then
- 23:57Speaker 2: they take a road test, and if they pass, they
- 23:59Speaker 2: get a driver's license, which lets them use scooters during recess.
- 24:03Speaker 4: That is such a cool idea.
- 24:05Speaker 3: So on the first day of school, the kids barely
- 24:08Speaker 3: noticed the whole red carpet and the music that welcomed them.
- 24:12Speaker 3: They were too excited about this new traffic garden and
- 24:16Speaker 3: what they would get to do at recess this year.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And we thought we had it good with our big toy,
- 24:22Speaker 2: which is what we called our Playground. When I was
- 24:25Speaker 2: in elementary or those kids, they have it good with
- 24:27Speaker 2: that mini city. Read more about this story. It'll make
- 24:30Speaker 2: your day. It'll help you to feel good on a Friday.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And you'll probably want to share it with some friends.
- 24:35Speaker 2: You'll find it on the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And that's where you can tell Chili and I about
- 24:41Speaker 2: a story that you think should be featured right here
- 24:43Speaker 2: in this space next week. It is 97.1 Wash FM,
- 24:47Speaker 2: the news. Top stories at the top of the hour,
- 24:50Speaker 2: right around 810. Chili, what's going on?
- 24:52Speaker 3: A new study suggests that drinking caffeine may mess with
- 24:56Speaker 3: your sleep even if you still get the same number
- 24:59Speaker 3: of hours. And I'll explain why that is coming up
- 25:02Speaker 3: in just a few minutes.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Welcome to Michael Jackson and Bad. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. Did you hear about
- 25:11Speaker 2: the More Than Pink Walk? It's back and we're in.
- 25:13Speaker 3: October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So we want
- 25:17Speaker 3: you to join us for the Susan G. Komen More
- 25:20Speaker 3: Than Pink Walk on Saturday, October 10th. At National Harbor,
- 25:24Speaker 3: sponsored by Mattress Warehouse.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Come on down. Be a part of a great day.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And if you need to know more, get to washfm.com.
- 25:31Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 25:39Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Iran's president says he wants a deal with the U.S.
- 25:44Speaker 3: before midterm elections. We've got the latest on that story
- 25:47Speaker 3: and others on the way. With Toby and Chili in
- 25:50Speaker 3: the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Iran's president says he wants a deal with the U.S.
- 26:00Speaker 3: before our midterm elections here. Speaking at the U.N., he
- 26:04Speaker 3: also said he'd like the U.S. to return to a
- 26:07Speaker 3: memorandum of understanding that was signed in June. A teenager
- 26:11Speaker 3: is recovering after he was shot near Prince George's Community
- 26:14Speaker 3: College in Largo yesterday. The shooting prompted lockdowns at the
- 26:18Speaker 3: college and nearby Largo High School as police searched for
- 26:21Speaker 3: the shooter, but no arrests have been announced. MedStar Health
- 26:25Speaker 3: is facing a federal lawsuit after the EEOC says that
- 26:29Speaker 3: it revoked a Maryland man's job offer because of his disability.
- 26:33Speaker 3: The agency says MedStar demanded he stop in IV treatment
- 26:37Speaker 3: and also denied his request for accommodations. Montgomery County teachers
- 26:41Speaker 3: and school leaders are clashing over a new contract. The
- 26:45Speaker 3: teachers union says the school system's proposing no raises, while
- 26:49Speaker 3: MCPS says that's inaccurate and says that it's facing a
- 26:52Speaker 3: serious budget problem.
- 26:54Speaker 4: The D.C.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Council is considering changes to the city's ballot initiative process.
- 26:59Speaker 3: The bill would limit measures to just one subject and
- 27:02Speaker 3: give more time before signature collection begins. A final vote
- 27:06Speaker 3: is expected next month. And a new review suggests that
- 27:09Speaker 3: caffeine may actually mess with your sleep, even if you
- 27:13Speaker 3: still get the same number of hours. Researchers found that
- 27:17Speaker 3: it can reduce deep restorative sleep and make your brain
- 27:21Speaker 3: more wake-like. And for some people, even morning caffeine may
- 27:26Speaker 3: have an effect. Forecast for today, it'll be partly cloudy
- 27:29Speaker 3: and breezy with highs around 73. Right now, though, 51
- 27:32Speaker 3: in Lake Ridge.
- 27:33Speaker 2: And that is the news. 97.1 Wash FM is where
- 27:37Speaker 2: you get top stories at the top of the hour.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. It's also where before 845,
- 27:43Speaker 2: you're going to get to hear a brand new song
- 27:45Speaker 2: from Taylor Swift. Oh, you didn't get the memo. It's
- 27:47Speaker 2: been everywhere all over the Internet, just like anything Taylor does.
- 27:51Speaker 2: The new song is Patient Zero. It's out now. We'll
- 27:55Speaker 2: hear it before 845. And next, you were ridiculously good
- 28:00Speaker 2: at this as a kid. What was it? Let's talk
- 28:05Speaker 2: about it and why, because there is one six-year-old who's
- 28:08Speaker 2: doing some pretty incredible stuff. 866-927-4361 to get in. We're talking.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Friday morning at 97.1 Wash FM. Maybe you saw this
- 28:18Speaker 2: video floating around the internet this week. Six-year-old girl in
- 28:21Speaker 2: China did something pretty spectacular. You won't talk about talent.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Girlfriend has some talent.
- 28:28Speaker 3: She saw a Rubik's Cube in just four seconds, breaking
- 28:32Speaker 3: the record for the first female competitor under four and
- 28:35Speaker 3: a half seconds.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's craziness. Now she does put in the work. She
- 28:39Speaker 2: trains for three hours a day. She's mastered over 1300 algorithms.
- 28:42Speaker 2: She's six. I spent much longer than that trying to
- 28:46Speaker 2: take the stickers off the Rubik's Cube to put them
- 28:49Speaker 2: back in order, thinking I was all smart and whatnot.
- 28:52Speaker 3: I hope she continues whatever this talent is and turns
- 28:56Speaker 3: it into something lucrative in life, because there's nothing worse
- 28:58Speaker 3: than thinking back and going, man, I wish I had
- 29:01Speaker 3: kept up with something I was good at.
- 29:02Speaker 2: She's already been accepted at MIT and she has a
- 29:04Speaker 2: job waiting for her at NASA.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Is that true?
- 29:07Speaker 2: She's so talented. No, I just made that up. Come
- 29:09Speaker 2: on now. If she's sick solving Rubik's cubes, there's probably
- 29:12Speaker 2: nothing she can't accomplish when it comes to science, technology, STEM,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and just being awesome. So, Chili, what were you really
- 29:18Speaker 2: good at as a kid? Something that you were maybe
- 29:20Speaker 2: even ridiculously good at?
- 29:22Speaker 3: I wouldn't say ridiculously good. But I was really good
- 29:24Speaker 3: at theater arts, theater acting. Yeah, I enjoyed it.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Theater arts. I was good at writing. It just came
- 29:30Speaker 2: very naturally and very easy for me. And why did
- 29:33Speaker 2: I wander from it? The idea that talking in a
- 29:35Speaker 2: microphone might be more fun.
- 29:37Speaker 5: 866-927-4361.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Is the number. What is something you were ridiculously good
- 29:43Speaker 2: at as a kid? You wish you would have kept
- 29:45Speaker 2: up with it. Stacey, good morning in Rockville.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I was weirdly good at rollerblading.
- 29:50Speaker 4: What made you so good?
- 29:51Speaker 3: I could do tricks, race everybody, and was always the
- 29:54Speaker 3: one showing off at the park.
- 29:56Speaker 1: And now I could barely stand upright on skates.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Funny how that happens.
- 30:00Speaker 3: But isn't it like riding a bike? Couldn't you get
- 30:02Speaker 3: back on rollerblades and get better at it?
- 30:05Speaker 2: You would think. Thanks for the call this morning. What's
- 30:09Speaker 2: going on, Rondell? Thank you, sir, for listening to us
- 30:12Speaker 2: this morning in Petworth.
- 30:14Speaker 5: I was really good at drawing when I was little.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I'd spend hours copying cartoon characters and actually.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Got pretty good at it.
- 30:21Speaker 4: And then what happened?
- 30:22Speaker 2: Now I can barely draw a stick figure.
- 30:23Speaker 8: Remember, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. You
- 30:27Speaker 8: can have all the talent in the world, but if
- 30:28Speaker 8: you don't do the right thing, then nothing happens. But
- 30:31Speaker 8: when you do right, guess what? Good things happen. You
- 30:34Speaker 8: hear me?
- 30:35Speaker 2: Unless you've been living under a rock, you know who's
- 30:38Speaker 2: got a brand new song out everywhere today. In fact,
- 30:42Speaker 2: she's got four, but we had to pick just one,
- 30:45Speaker 2: and you get to hear it right now.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Taylor Swift's Patient Zero. Make sure you listen for those
- 30:51Speaker 3: Easter eggs.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Gotta love that the DMV and places around the DMV
- 30:56Speaker 2: keep making these best of lists. It's 97.1 Wash FM.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Now, the best city in the U.S. for people with
- 31:05Speaker 3: disabilities is St. Louis coming in first place.
- 31:10Speaker 2: But Columbia, Maryland is second. impressively number 10.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Wow.
- 31:16Speaker 2: It's based on things like accessibility, employment, affordability, Columbia, Maryland.
- 31:20Speaker 2: This is not your first award. Congratulations, people of Columbia.
- 31:26Speaker 2: 97.1 Wash FM. All about you, but Tilly and I
- 31:30Speaker 2: are ready to get out of here for the weekend.
- 31:31Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM, ready to keep this over two
- 31:36Speaker 2: hours of commercial-free music rolling for you, but first.
- 31:39Speaker 3: We always leave you with a quote for the morning mindset,
- 31:41Speaker 3: but on Fridays, we find a lyric to share with you.
- 31:45Speaker 3: It's part of our best of the 80s and 90s weekend.
- 31:49Speaker 3: What have you got today?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Whitney and Mariah, two powerful voices together from 1998. When
- 31:56Speaker 2: you believe the lyric, there can be miracles when you believe.
- 32:02Speaker 2: It's important to keep that in mind. Believing doesn't mean
- 32:04Speaker 2: everything's going to magically work out. But if you've already
- 32:08Speaker 2: decided that something can't happen, guess what? It's not going to.
- 32:13Speaker 2: So don't cross it off the list until you've given
- 32:15Speaker 2: yourself permission to believe, even if just for a moment.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Have a great weekend. We'll talk to you soon. Ginny
- 32:25Speaker 2: Chase will be here next.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Want more Toby and Jilly? Head over to WashFM.com or
- 32:30Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
