- 1:01SPEAKER_05: Are we still living in the same country?
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: Is it still the country we once knew?
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: Or have we uh moved?
- 1:08SPEAKER_05: Have we changed addresses here?
- 1:10SPEAKER_05: Change citizenship.
- 1:11SPEAKER_06: Nothing has changed.
- 1:12SPEAKER_06: It's just a simple rebrand of the brand, and that's okay.
- 1:17SPEAKER_06: That's okay.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: It's all about the brand over here.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: Always about the brand.

- 1:28SPEAKER_06: But Tristan, we won a game this past Saturday.
- 1:34SPEAKER_06: A football game.
- 1:35SPEAKER_06: It was great.
- 1:36SPEAKER_06: Uh we're 2-0 on the season.
- 1:38SPEAKER_06: Uh, and here on the Talk and Tech podcast, we must do something when we win a football game.
- 1:42SPEAKER_06: What is that thing?
- 1:43SPEAKER_06: We must play the song.
- 1:45SPEAKER_06: Steven, please play the song.
- 1:47SPEAKER_07: I'm playing the song.
- 1:50SPEAKER_10: Red Raider coming at you.
- 1:52SPEAKER_10: Riding through the night.
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: With a pure Texas win.
- 1:58SPEAKER_10: Red Raider coming at you.
- 2:00SPEAKER_10: What a beautiful time.
- 2:02SPEAKER_10: The Texas 10 Red Raiders riding right again.
- 2:08SPEAKER_06: Red Raider coming at you.
- 2:11SPEAKER_06: Riding riding through the night.
- 2:14SPEAKER_06: We have we have ridden through the night.
- 2:17SPEAKER_06: The Red Raiders win 33-30, double overtime over the Houston Cougars.
- 2:24SPEAKER_06: Joey Maguire gets his first ranked win of his head coaching career at Texas Tech.
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: Um what a what a game.
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: First in-state competition win.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: Because I mean he's already got the big one.
- 3:01SPEAKER_05: The big one we were all worried about, first Kentucky win.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: So I'm just glad that he's got the first Lone Star State notched on his belt.
- 3:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, and it, I mean, it's a it's a great win.
- 3:11SPEAKER_06: You look at it, it's a great win.
- 3:12SPEAKER_06: That was a ranked team, and Houston is is pretty darn good.
- 3:17SPEAKER_06: Now, uh, you know, it has yet to be seen how good Houston actually is.
- 3:21SPEAKER_06: You know, we're gonna have to kind of follow them.
- 3:23SPEAKER_06: They have uh apparently Big 12 powerhouse Kansas next.
- 3:28SPEAKER_06: So after that game, I think yeah, two and oh, Kansas Jayhawks undefeated, much like your Red Raiders.
- 3:34SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, when it comes to Houston, we don't truly know how good they are in the grand scheme.
- 3:42SPEAKER_06: Now, if Houston goes off and just wins out, which they probably should because you know they have Kansas and then the rest of the American conference, and not even the good American teams.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: They're they're not playing Cincinnati or UCF.
- 3:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but I mean, even even UCF doesn't look uh as strong as they normally do.
- 3:59SPEAKER_06: No, yeah, UCF's lost to Louisville, right?
- 4:03SPEAKER_06: That was a that wasn't great.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: In pretty brutal fashion, it was not pretty.
- 4:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, it wasn't that wasn't a blowout, but it was just it wasn't a pretty game.
- 4:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so you know, I we'll see how Houston is against Kansas.
- 4:14SPEAKER_06: If Houston blows out Kansas, we're gonna be thrilled because you know, hopefully that will transition over that we beat a a pretty darn good team, which I thought Houston was.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: Houston put in a great effort, they had a lot of guys have a have a great game on the road, and and truly and honestly, they probably should have won there at the end uh with all the mistakes that we made, but uh we pulled it out.
- 4:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and another reason why I want Houston to blow out Kansas is so we don't have to have deal with a good Kansas on our hands.
- 4:44SPEAKER_05: I I just I don't need that, I don't want to deal with that right now.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: But um uh no, dude, absolutely.
- 4:49SPEAKER_05: Houston I had to come into a hostile territory.
- 4:51SPEAKER_05: It was like it was a good crowd there in the Jones ATT Stadium.
- 4:55SPEAKER_05: You know, Vegas is starting to to pick the other team over you.
- 4:58SPEAKER_05: Uh every uh uh indicator was saying that TechStech was going to win this game.
- 5:03SPEAKER_05: But like you said, dude, I kind of gave up hope in the second half.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: Like I was starting to, I felt like the wheels were coming off.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: Uh, we started uh making silly mistakes.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: Donovan was throwing some bad passes into the into the hands of the uh Houston defenders, and I just felt like we kind of ran out of steam.
- 5:19SPEAKER_05: I thought our playbook was used up in the first half there, and things just weren't really working for the this the second uh uh stretch of the game.
- 5:25SPEAKER_05: But we uh we it was a gritty win.
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: You know, we pulled it out, and that's the important thing.
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: I I don't think you could be hung up on any.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: I mean, you can you can you can you can pick and prod at the negatives, but I don't think you could get too hung up on them because Houston probably should have won this game.
- 5:38SPEAKER_05: Houston's probably the better team.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: Uh that's that's why they came into it ranked, but we still managed to pull it out.
- 5:43SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's impressive, especially in a double overtime win.
- 5:46SPEAKER_06: I don't know if I necessarily agree with Houston, is probably the better team because there were moments that I thought Texas Tech should have just taken a bigger lead and and won the game in regulation.
- 5:57SPEAKER_06: You know, uh you talk about the Jiran Bradley or Jerun Jaron Bradley.
- 6:02SPEAKER_06: I've been saying his name wrong the whole time.
- 6:04SPEAKER_06: I I looked at the the depth chart and saw the current correct pronunciation for his name.
- 6:09SPEAKER_06: Uh Jeron Bradley uh you know dropped the touchdown pass.
- 6:14SPEAKER_06: We missed two field goals there in the second half.
- 6:18SPEAKER_06: Um, so you know, you could look at it that way and say, hey, Texas Tech probably should have won in regulation, or you look at it like, hey, we made a bunch of mistakes there that probably should have lost the game for us.
- 6:29SPEAKER_06: So yeah, um, but but you brought up Donovan Smith, and that's where I kind of wanted to start with this because um different uh reactions from the fan base, I would say, from the Texas Tech fan base on Twitter after the game.
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: Um listen, I love Donovan Smith.
- 6:47SPEAKER_06: I think that guy has so much potential and has so much talent.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: And he made some really, really crucial mistakes in this game that nearly lost it for us.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: I mean, all three interceptions were pretty inexcusable on his part.
- 7:07SPEAKER_06: You look at the first one, it was thrown into double coverage to the tight end.
- 7:12SPEAKER_06: Uh, the second one, I believe, was the pick six, I mean, that had no chance of getting to Miles Price.
- 7:19SPEAKER_06: The third one was the awful one with one minute left that you just don't throw.
- 7:24SPEAKER_06: Now, listen, that third one was basically a third down punt, which we've seen many times here at Texas Tech.
- 7:30SPEAKER_06: It was uh done throughout all of Patrick Mahomes' time here, but you don't do it with a minute left in the game.
- 7:37SPEAKER_06: Uh, because it put Houston in field goal position, and they ended up taking the lead.
- 7:42SPEAKER_06: And luckily, you know, we made the plays to go tie the game.
- 7:44SPEAKER_06: But um overall, I thought there was a lot of good you saw out of Donovan Smith and three really bad mistakes.
- 7:54SPEAKER_06: Uh, well, a little more than three because you know, there were times where he just ran straight into the defense and uh, you know, probably should have got the ball out quicker at certain moments.
- 8:03SPEAKER_06: But I thought Donovan overall had a good game with a lot of stuff that he just needs to clean up.
- 8:11SPEAKER_05: Look, I mean, we're talking about the uh Big 12 offensive player of the week.
- 8:14SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's it's kind of surprising to say that out loud, but in many ways he did earn that.
- 8:19SPEAKER_05: I mean, he did win the game, you know.
- 8:21SPEAKER_05: He's he had that spectacular run uh into the end zone.
- 8:23SPEAKER_05: I'm glad he just has that vision and that uh decision-making ability when he wants to use it and just and can move the ball to where it needs to go.
- 8:31SPEAKER_05: But I think you're just kind of highlighting on some perhaps youthful inexperience that's kind of killing him on the on those interceptions, which is why Tyler Shuck won the job.
- 8:41SPEAKER_05: I mean, I right then those interceptions is why Tyler Shuck is the starting quarterback, because you probably don't see that kind of decision making out of a uh a senior experienced veteran quarterback, and that's why we we were really missing him in that in that half.
- 8:54SPEAKER_05: Like you could really you could really tell, like, oh, this is definitely why Tyler Shuck's the starter.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: But Donovan, you know, also also had some great plays.
- 9:00SPEAKER_05: He still won us the game, so it you can't help but give him a hat off because I mean, and also it's awesome to add that medal that's the offensive player of the week.
- 9:08SPEAKER_05: And at the end of the day, we won this game, you know.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: And what you can't be upset with this 2-0 over a ranked uh future Big 12 rival that that definitely uh definitely wanted it.
- 9:19SPEAKER_05: It's kind of funny, but we they both teams made a whole lot of crucial mistakes.
- 9:23SPEAKER_05: It wasn't just uh Texas Tech making mistakes because Houston did too.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: I think both fan bases are sitting here going, man, that was a lot of ways a very sloppy game.
- 9:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 9:33SPEAKER_06: And I think uh it was either Joey Maguire or Zach Kidley who mentioned it in the weekly presser that just happened today.
- 9:40SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of youth on this team.
- 9:41SPEAKER_06: Donovan Smith's a sophomore, you know, Teran Bradley he dropped uh an easy catch in the end zone.
- 9:46SPEAKER_06: That guy's a red shirt freshman, you know.
- 9:49SPEAKER_06: There's uh guys, you know, even Taj Brooks is still only a junior, but Nehemiah Martinez is young, you know, Miles Price the junior.
- 9:56SPEAKER_06: We don't have a lot of seniors on this offense, and so you know, this type of stuff doesn't bother me as much as it would have if it were Tyler Shuck or uh say Ezukama stayed on the team and he was making these mistakes.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Like that would bother me a whole lot more than what happened early season with a bunch of guys that are taking on massive roles that they have not seen before at Texas Tech.
- 10:21SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, from that perspective, I think it's fine.
- 10:25SPEAKER_06: Um, and that's why you have to keep giving these guys reps because the crazy part of this is that uh like a lot of Red Raider fans after the game were expressing, they want to change a quarter, they want to change quarterbacks, and it's like guys, you have to give these younger players more time and more reps and give them confidence moving forward.
- 10:50SPEAKER_06: That's a huge part of it.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: The mental part of it isn't talked about enough with these guys.
- 10:55SPEAKER_06: If if Donovan Smith were to get benched, I mean, that kills the guy's confidence, and he made so many clutch plays and so many key plays that he doesn't deserve to be benched.
- 11:06SPEAKER_06: And that yeah, now normally those type of people that are calling for the next guy are just the people that every time somebody makes a mistake they overreact and say this is the worst thing in the world.
- 11:16SPEAKER_06: Let's pull in the next guy and all that kind of stuff.
- 11:19SPEAKER_06: So I, you know, I don't want to pay them too much attention, but um, I thought Donovan had a lot of good on top of you know, some some pretty poor decisions in this game.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: That the good is that he just stayed collected, he stayed calm when you just threw you just threw away the game.
- 11:40SPEAKER_06: You know, you threw that interception, they got into field goal range and they took the lead with 37 seconds left.
- 11:45SPEAKER_06: And yet he still came out there, made the huge run for like 30 yards, made you know the fourth and 20 pass in overtime, and ran in the game winning touchdown.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: I mean, that takes a different type of player.
- 11:58SPEAKER_06: It's a clutch player, it's a clutch move for him to pull off this stuff.
- 12:02SPEAKER_06: And I was I was I came out of this feeling better about Donovan Smith.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: I really did.
- 12:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think I'm totally with you, man.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: And I think this is like a perfect opportunity for him to build on those mistakes.
- 12:14SPEAKER_05: I'm sure they're sitting in the in the film room diagnosing everything he did wrong while also capitalizing on what he did right.
- 12:21SPEAKER_05: I I'm glad you brought up those clutch plays in overtime because I think those really solidify that he's the guy for the job right now.
- 12:26SPEAKER_05: Um, you you start him and probably play him the entire game at NC State.
- 12:30SPEAKER_05: It's just kind of it's just kind of uh funny with with with football, and that that the most popular guy on the team is the backup quarterback, especially wherever you're losing a game.
- 12:37SPEAKER_05: Like if the offense is not producing, you're gonna be like, it's next guy up, it's gotta be this next guy, you gotta throw a spark in there.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: And I understand that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_05: Like, I get it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_05: You know, when you're in the heat of the game, you're reacting to everything, everything minute becomes huge during the game.
- 12:52SPEAKER_05: So I can see why people, whatever Donovan spoke was throwing interceptions and not completing uh passing and making dumb running decisions, uh, and getting sacked that you want to put the next guy in and maybe they can do it.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: But I'm glad they didn't.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: And because I mean it really did kind of come down to the quarterback here.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: You know, he really did win us the game.
- 13:08SPEAKER_05: And uh, we'll obviously talk about the other pros here, but I'm with you, man.
- 13:11SPEAKER_05: I I think Donovan's a great player, and I think he's gonna he's got a great shot to to keep starting games if we keep winning him like we are.
- 13:18SPEAKER_05: So I will I hope we do.
- 13:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 13:21SPEAKER_06: And you saw the talent from him, those crossfield throws that he was throwing from the opposite hash.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: I mean, he threw like three of them this whole game, one to Price, one to Fungi, and one to Cleveland.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: And they were all I mean, that's not a normal play that quarterbacks make, especially in college.
- 13:37SPEAKER_06: And you could tell this guy has so much talent to him, so much arm strength, and he's disciplined.
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: He is like, you know, there were dumb plays that he dumb decisions that he made, but he still stayed so calm, and that's what I I really enjoy about his game.
- 13:54SPEAKER_06: Um, and then that game-winning run was fantastic.
- 13:57SPEAKER_06: I mean, as soon as he ran in, he put he put the arms crossed and he was like, Listen, all right, I'm I'm that dude.
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, I I I love that too, man.
- 14:07SPEAKER_05: Um, uh, so what are your biggest complaints with the so you know we obviously hit on the greats here, the highs.
- 14:12SPEAKER_05: What were your biggest complaints with the offense?
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: Would you say it was the offensive line?
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: I remember you were uh definitely having some issues with that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the O-line had a bad game.
- 14:19SPEAKER_06: Caleb Rogers had a really bad game at left tackle.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: He was getting eaten alive by Derek Parrish.
- 14:24SPEAKER_06: Um, and you know, Derek Parrish is a fantastic player.
- 14:27SPEAKER_06: He had four and a half sacks this game.
- 14:29SPEAKER_06: I mean, that he's he's really, really good, but you just can't have that from your left tackle.
- 14:35SPEAKER_06: Your left tackle is the most important position on the offensive line, uh, you know, arguably center, but whatever.
- 14:41SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, you're usually guarding their best edge rusher over there.
- 14:45SPEAKER_06: And um, you just didn't get what you needed from the offensive line for a lot of this game.
- 14:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, Donovan, uh, yeah, he should have gotten the ball out quicker on some plays, but he just did not have a lot of time there, especially at the beginning of the second half, um, to to you know go through his reads and and get find the open guy.
- 15:05SPEAKER_06: He just didn't have a lot of time.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: And so that's on the offensive line.
- 15:08SPEAKER_06: Uh, there were penalties, there were false starts early on in the game.
- 15:12SPEAKER_06: Uh Monroe Mills had uh a late hit on one of the interceptions.
- 15:16SPEAKER_06: Um, and and Weston Wright got hurt, which sucked uh because he's one of your, you know, he's one of your uh most important guys on that O-line.
- 15:25SPEAKER_06: He's there at the uh left guard position.
- 15:27SPEAKER_06: And um, it looks like you know, it's not a serious, serious injury.
- 15:31SPEAKER_06: Uh it was an ankle.
- 15:33SPEAKER_06: Uh, according to Joey McGuire, he is going to be a game time decision for NC State.
- 15:37SPEAKER_06: Um, but he is practicing.
- 15:39SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, that's good news.
- 15:42SPEAKER_06: Um, but overall, it it wasn't a great performance from the offensive line.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: And I I don't know if that's more of a testament to Houston just having a really good rush defense, really good D line, which they do.
- 15:54SPEAKER_06: I mean, that can't go under the radar here, but um, yeah, the the O-line had a tough outing.
- 16:00SPEAKER_05: No, I absolutely I think that's probably what put the pressure on Donovan Smith and where you saw a lot of his mistakes come from is now his feeling that frantic panic you get whenever you're being suffocated at all times.
- 16:11SPEAKER_05: So hopefully we improve on that.
- 16:13SPEAKER_05: I know that was a unit that we were kind of sus on before uh the season started, as the kids say.
- 16:18SPEAKER_05: So um it's just it's it's been an issue for a while.
- 16:21SPEAKER_05: I hope we can kind of turn that around under McGuire.
- 16:23SPEAKER_05: But yeah, it's kind of hard to excuse it right now.
- 16:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 16:27SPEAKER_06: Uh, I think, you know, despite the uh, you know, uh not as great O-line play, um I'd say the running back position, I thought Taj Brooks had a hell of a game.
- 16:39SPEAKER_06: I thought Taj Brooks really showed that he is your best running back.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: I love Sir Rodrick Thompson.
- 16:45SPEAKER_06: I think Sir Roderick Thompson is a a great player in his own right, but he's just not the same type of three-down back that you have in Taj Brooks.
- 16:56SPEAKER_06: Um, now you don't have to use Taj Brooks in a in you know a three-down situation because you do have Sir Rodrick, but uh, you know, Taj just made it work.
- 17:04SPEAKER_06: And I mean, it was a tough 4.4 average yards of carry, but he got that touchdown.
- 17:10SPEAKER_06: He made some big plays in the first half, made some big plays in overtime.
- 17:13SPEAKER_06: And uh, you know, Taj just showed you that he's one of the best running backs in this league, man.
- 17:18SPEAKER_06: He uh he was really vital to this win.
- 17:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was really impressed with the running backs as well.
- 17:23SPEAKER_05: I remember saying to the television over and over again, like, use your rocking running backs, you have great running backs.
- 17:28SPEAKER_05: I remember like screaming that at the TV a lot.
- 17:31SPEAKER_05: Um, because we they really are really impressive.
- 17:33SPEAKER_05: It's just it's a quarter, a running back room that we haven't had at a while.
- 17:36SPEAKER_05: Or I mean we had them last year, but like it's just really something we're building on awesomely.
- 17:40SPEAKER_05: And it's frustrating not implementing them as much as you would as you as much as you'd like, but he they still had a ton of runs, so you definitely see Zach Hidley using his weapons, and I'm really happy to see that.
- 17:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, I thought the wide receivers played well.
- 17:53SPEAKER_06: Uh Nehemiah and Miles both had really big plays uh for touchdowns there in the first half.
- 17:59SPEAKER_06: Um, Donvin kind of got away from them.
- 18:01SPEAKER_06: I didn't I didn't really like that.
- 18:02SPEAKER_06: I thought we should have got those guys more involved uh, you know, throughout the rest of the game.
- 18:06SPEAKER_06: I know Miles Miles Price had that bad.
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: I mean, on the on the pick six, he just kind of stopped.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: And you know, if he would have kept going and kept you know running all the way through the play, he may or may not have prevented that you know catch by the receiver, but he just completely stopped.
- 18:23SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, Durant Bradley had his ups and downs.
- 18:26SPEAKER_06: Um I thought the the fourth and 20 play was massive.
- 18:30SPEAKER_06: Obviously, it was it uh you know kept you alive, and it's the reason you won this game.
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: And uh for a redshirt freshman to pull that out and uh you know not go out of bounds too early and uh you know complete that play all the way through.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: I thought was really, really nice to see.
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: Um that dude's a uh he's a star in the making.
- 18:48SPEAKER_06: I'm so high on Bradley.
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: Um and and really excited for his future.
- 18:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 18:53SPEAKER_05: I was surprised with the wide receivers as well.
- 18:55SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's you kind of looked through your crystal ball last week, man.
- 18:58SPEAKER_05: You're just saying we got to get the slot receivers more involved, and you got to see uh more Miles Price out there.
- 19:03SPEAKER_05: So that was great to see.
- 19:04SPEAKER_05: I hope we uh keep utilizing this this what right wide receiver room is clearly as good as ever.
- 19:08SPEAKER_05: We say it every year, never worried about the wide receivers.
- 19:11SPEAKER_05: So I'm with you, man.
- 19:13SPEAKER_05: Other than that, drop to pass in the end zone, which was a really a backbreaker because you're really looking for a way to get away from Houston at that point.
- 19:19SPEAKER_05: Like, you're like, let's get this, let's end this.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: This is too tiresome at this point.
- 19:23SPEAKER_05: I'm tired of hurting.
- 19:25SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, no, I I other than that, dude, a spectacular game for the wide receivers.
- 19:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:31SPEAKER_06: Uh last thing on the offense, uh, tight ends need to get involved.
- 19:35SPEAKER_06: They just do.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, Donovan, that could be on Donovan, that could be on the tight ends, not getting open, but you have three really good tight ends on this team.
- 19:44SPEAKER_06: You need to use them.
- 19:45SPEAKER_06: Use Baylor Cup, use Mason Tharp, use Henry Teeter in whatever way you need to.
- 19:50SPEAKER_06: Um, I I think Baylor Cup was the only one that caught a pass and it was for six yards.
- 19:56SPEAKER_06: And uh Mason Thorp was targeted on the first interception there, but uh, you know, into double coverage.
- 20:02SPEAKER_06: You just got to get them more involved.
- 20:04SPEAKER_06: And and um, you know, I thought I thought overall Kitley's play calling was uh, you know, pretty good in the first half, um, and obviously made the right plays when it mattered most and called the right plays.
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: Um, but majority of the second half, it was kind of rough um for the most part.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: And that's not what I necessarily wanted to see from from Kitley.
- 20:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was it was kind of uh interesting to see.
- 20:26SPEAKER_05: A lot, a lot of fans did have a lot of issue with his play calling.
- 20:29SPEAKER_05: And I mean, wherever we're watching how frustrated the second half was, you can see why.
- 20:34SPEAKER_05: And especially with uh we'll get to it in a second, especially with how well the defense was playing.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: You were like, man, the offense really needs to capitalize on how awesome the defense is playing.
- 20:42SPEAKER_05: So it was frustrating to watch us sputter out big time in the second half, and obviously it doesn't help whenever your quarterback is throwing the ball to the other team three times.
- 20:50SPEAKER_05: Um, that's just you're not gonna win even the bigger games doing that, it's not gonna happen.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Um, but I'm with you, man.
- 20:57SPEAKER_05: It's just uh it's kind of frustrating whenever you watch offense coordinators seemingly only set up for the first half, but obviously, you know, they they know way more about the game than we do.
- 21:05SPEAKER_05: It just sometimes it just doesn't play out the way you want it to.
- 21:08SPEAKER_05: But I mean, I think Zach Kidley's a he's a young guy, he's got a lot to learn, but he's already you know killing it.
- 21:13SPEAKER_05: So I'm excited to see how he develops over the season.
- 21:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 21:17SPEAKER_06: And I don't think he called a bad game overall.
- 21:19SPEAKER_06: I think he was I think he was fine.
- 21:21SPEAKER_06: Um, and and you know, these types of things, it could be on Donovan, it could be on the O-line, it could be on Kiddley.
- 21:26SPEAKER_06: It's it's a number of things that go into it.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: So it's not just one guy to blame for all this.
- 21:31SPEAKER_06: Um defense pressure was good.
- 21:35SPEAKER_06: Um we just have some studs on that D line.
- 21:38SPEAKER_06: And uh the way they the way they played it, they really didn't want Toon to beat him, beat us with his legs.
- 21:44SPEAKER_06: They just didn't.
- 21:45SPEAKER_06: They saw him and what he could do against UTSA.
- 21:48SPEAKER_06: And uh, so there was less, it was more contain than there was, hey, let's absolutely go after you know Clayton Toon.
- 21:55SPEAKER_06: And I thought they did a good job of it.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: I think he had negative two rushing yards this whole game, which is Fantastic.
- 22:01SPEAKER_06: Um, but overall, I thought the defense played pretty well.
- 22:04SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, there were times where you were questioning, you know, why are why didn't there somebody on uh Houston's best receiver in Tank Dell uh and him getting open easily?
- 22:15SPEAKER_06: But um overall, I thought the the secondary had a much better game than they did against Murray State, and we finally forced some turnouts.
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: No, absolutely, man.
- 22:23SPEAKER_05: And what what the Devons held them with what 10 points in the entire game?
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: Like they only allowed 10 points.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: Well, I mean, what they had 30, so well, yeah, but that's also from the uh the overtime as well.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: Okay, well, okay, let's see.
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: Like in regulation, I mean, yeah, I guess in regulation, yeah, in regulation, yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_06: You know, overall it's a it's a two overtime game, and they only scored 30 points, so I guess you did pretty good.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: Um exactly, yeah, but there were definitely there were big plays that they gave up, though, you know.
- 22:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, absolutely, man.
- 22:54SPEAKER_05: No, I I guess what I was what I was trying to say was, you know, they help they held Houston to under 20 points.
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: And if you hold a team to under 20 points, you should you expect your offense to win that game, especially at Texas Tech.
- 23:06SPEAKER_05: I mean, we don't we usually don't depend on the defense as much as other teams can, but with the way they played, we really had them under wraps.
- 23:13SPEAKER_05: You really couldn't ask for more.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: I mean, obviously a lot of that's on Houston making mistakes as well, but we had our guys out there forcing those mistakes.
- 23:20SPEAKER_05: So I I'm really, really impressed with it with the way the defense played.
- 23:23SPEAKER_05: I'd say the defense played a better game than the offense, even.
- 23:26SPEAKER_05: Um, so I I I love it.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: I think Tim DeRuder is doing a great thing right now, and I I want to see I want to see it keep going.
- 23:32SPEAKER_05: Like it's it's a good, it's a good thing.
- 23:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, they were dealt a bad hand with a lot of those interceptions.
- 23:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, in the red zone, uh, you know, down the stretch, you hold them to a field goal, uh, you know, the pick six and everything like that.
- 23:45SPEAKER_06: So um, yeah, I thought the defense played a played a really good game overall, and you've and you forced turnovers when you needed to.
- 23:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, Krishan forced one uh that was kind of with the help of the Houston offensive lineman there.
- 23:57SPEAKER_06: Um, and then Reggie, you know, caught a caught an overthrow there that uh he returned for a decent gain.
- 24:04SPEAKER_06: There were times I think Ray Shahad and uh Malik Dunlap both had interceptions that they probably should have caught that were right in their pocket and they missed.
- 24:12SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, overall, I can't be mad with the defensive performance.
- 24:16SPEAKER_06: I thought it was it was really good against a uh an offense that we've seen be pretty electric.
- 24:22SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 24:23SPEAKER_06: So um, I mean, you know, overall we won.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: We beat a ranked team.
- 24:28SPEAKER_06: A great win.
- 24:29SPEAKER_06: It's great.
- 24:30SPEAKER_06: It's a good win for Texas Tech.
- 24:32SPEAKER_06: We will see how Houston ends up, you know, throughout the season.
- 24:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, but if it's anything like last year, you know, they're pretty darn good.
- 24:38SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I mean, people were talking about them being the potential G5 team that makes the playoff this year.
- 24:44SPEAKER_05: So we we kind of you know curb that.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, no, there's no way they do it now, but yeah uh but yeah, I think this is a this is a darn good win, and you stick with your guide, Donovan Smith, right now.
- 24:55SPEAKER_06: I don't understand.
- 24:56SPEAKER_06: I I guess there's always gonna be Baron Morton stands, but guys, there's just no, you don't need to do that.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: You he won you this game at the end of the day, and that's what matters.
- 25:08SPEAKER_05: Um and um I feel like if you're a Houston fan, you're sick and tired of seeing TechSteck on the schedule at this point.
- 25:14SPEAKER_05: Get the double T out of their lives.
- 25:16SPEAKER_05: We've been we've just been landed on them for the past decade, like really curving the beginning of their seasons.
- 25:22SPEAKER_06: It's like 10 of the last 11 now, yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_06: Since this tech has won.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: So yeah, just uh uh tough scene, tough scene for the Kooks.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: And now they gotta play this all the time now.
- 25:32SPEAKER_05: I was about to say, it's like it's funny that we've had them at a conference, whatever this is about to be every year, probably.
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: So um, depending on how the scheduling works out.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: But uh, so before we move on from the used game, I know we spent a lot of time on it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: Obviously, we like to talk about the wins, we like to skew past losses, but um what about the special teams?
- 25:50SPEAKER_05: We're just gonna go past that.
- 25:51SPEAKER_05: Do we have a no?
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we should.
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: We should talk about the special teams because obviously both field goal kickers missed a field goal.
- 25:58SPEAKER_06: Uh 40, I think they're 46 yards each of them.
- 26:02SPEAKER_06: Um, and you hate to see that.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, obviously, but Trey Wolf redeemed himself by making the game winner from 47.
- 26:09SPEAKER_06: I mean, it was that wasn't an easy field goal at the end of the game.
- 26:12SPEAKER_06: No, and he nailed it.
- 26:13SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, uh, I I you stick with Wolf.
- 26:17SPEAKER_06: That's what you do.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: You stick with Wolf.
- 26:19SPEAKER_06: You don't do this keep on switching thing.
- 26:21SPEAKER_06: I don't think that helps either guy get confidence.
- 26:25SPEAKER_06: Um, and and I I think on the uh on the depth chart, they no longer have the or on the kickers.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: So I think Trey Wolf is the guy moving forward as he should be.
- 26:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, and and you know, hopefully he doesn't he doesn't miss anymore.
- 26:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we've been pretty spoiled with kickers uh these past two seasons, and it's just it's it's such a nice thing to have a reliable kicker.
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: You don't realize how much you miss having a reliable kicker whenever you leave six points off, six easy points.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, maybe not easy, some of them are pretty tough, but six points off the board that are gonna win you that game.
- 27:01SPEAKER_05: So it's it's really great to see Trey Wolf hopefully come into his own.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: Hopefully, he kind of broke the seal, so to speak, and is gonna get back in his groove.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: I remember his first season at Tex Tech, he was a stud, and he kind of uh he kind of fell off a bit, and that's why he'll replace.
- 27:14SPEAKER_05: But the guy's got the the potential to be a great kicker, and I'm with you.
- 27:18SPEAKER_05: I think you just play him from here on um and ride or die with it.
- 27:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 27:22SPEAKER_06: And if you know, if Trey Wolf has another season like he did last year where he misses the first five or whatever, or or goes one of five, then you throw in the other guy, yeah, and uh and roll from there.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: But you just need to have confidence and and not do the switch thing because I I hate the switch thing, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 27:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, me too.
- 27:39SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, I mean, you know, McNamara I thought was had a couple good punts, had a couple bad punts.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: He was also put in some bad situations there in our own end zone.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, he's still the goat.
- 27:50SPEAKER_06: Love him.
- 27:51SPEAKER_06: Um friend of the pod.
- 27:53SPEAKER_06: Friend of the pod, Austin McNamara.
- 27:55SPEAKER_05: Thanks for the love on Instagram as well, Austin.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: I know you're a weekly listener.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: What a guy, what a guy.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, the the return game sucked.
- 28:04SPEAKER_06: Uh, I didn't like that.
- 28:05SPEAKER_06: We don't we just don't, we can't get a guy.
- 28:08SPEAKER_06: No, we don't have a guy punts or return kicks.
- 28:11SPEAKER_06: It's like, come on.
- 28:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I think it's just yeah, we don't have a problem that we don't have the guy, and I don't know what you do in this situation with you just keep cycling through dudes and see what works.
- 28:23SPEAKER_05: I mean, I just don't know.
- 28:24SPEAKER_06: Well, and and Joey said that that Chedarius Townsend is gonna be back next week against NC State.
- 28:30SPEAKER_06: I hope they give him a shot at it because man, every time I see Adrian Fry back there, I just uh I'm not happy.
- 28:36SPEAKER_06: And it's I mean it's not his fault, and he's a fine you know player.
- 28:41SPEAKER_06: Um, but he just uh our punt return, our kick return, you don't get anything from them.
- 28:47SPEAKER_06: And um uh it's it you know, you can see how much that helps a team when you see a guy like Tank Dell for Houston.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, you get a guy that that returned a punt for a touchdown that luckily got called back for us.
- 29:00SPEAKER_08: Thanks God.
- 29:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and then the other one he had like a 60-yard gain on one of them, and it's just like those guys can be so valuable to you and flip the field completely, and we just don't have any of them.
- 29:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's a secret ingredient, you know.
- 29:13SPEAKER_05: It's it's a it's it's truly a a double threat with them, you know.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: And I know before the season, I was saying I I hope it's Townsend.
- 29:20SPEAKER_05: You know, he's he's got that raw athletic ability and he doesn't have much of a role elsewise on the team.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: So I really hope he can just kind of develop into that guy, and that's his thing.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: And yeah, hopefully we can get something wrong with that.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: I'd be fine.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: I'd be fine with Townsend.
- 29:34SPEAKER_06: I'd be fine with uh with uh Miles Price.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: I you know, he would he would be a fine addition.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: Nehemiah, I think, would be a good choice potentially.
- 29:44SPEAKER_06: Um, but you know, either way, I think you gotta switch it up a little bit because it's uh it's clearly not giving you much right now, and uh that's on Kenny Perry to figure out.
- 29:55SPEAKER_06: But um I was about to ask.
- 29:57SPEAKER_05: No, go ahead.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: I was about to ask if uh Jaim Grant has any years of eligibility left, but our guy is unfortunately in the infirmary right now.
- 30:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, old boy.
- 30:07SPEAKER_06: Uh what was it, Tornachilles?
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: That was tough.
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, uh thoughts and prayers to Jakeem.
- 30:14SPEAKER_06: Uh get better, get better next season.
- 30:16SPEAKER_06: We miss you, buddy.
- 30:17SPEAKER_06: Um, but yeah, let's move on.
- 30:19SPEAKER_06: Uh Houston, that's a win.
- 30:21SPEAKER_06: That's two and oh, bro.
- 30:23SPEAKER_06: We need to finish on on a high note because this is positive.
- 30:26SPEAKER_06: This is a good thing.
- 30:27SPEAKER_06: We beat a good team and we are rolling in at 2-0 when a lot of people expected us to be one and one going into the CNC State game.
- 30:35SPEAKER_05: No, absolutely.
- 30:36SPEAKER_05: I feel very comfortable like rolling into the season now.
- 30:38SPEAKER_05: I I don't think we need to win this upcoming week.
- 30:40SPEAKER_05: Obviously, I hope we do, but we we've we've set ourselves up nicely to kind of ease into hopefully getting to a bowl.
- 30:46SPEAKER_05: So I think that's the goal this season is getting to a bowl.
- 30:49SPEAKER_05: Um, and I think you know, upsetting a ranked opponent really bodes well for those chances at this point.
- 30:56SPEAKER_05: I think it shows that we got the stuff to you know do some things this season.
- 30:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, this game could be uh this upcoming game against C State could really be an indicator of what this team could accomplish.
- 31:09SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, I think you're realistic.
- 31:12SPEAKER_06: I, you know, I'm pretty realistic, but uh in the locker room, it's different.
- 31:17SPEAKER_06: And Joey has that team in the right mindset of no, we're not just trying to go for a bowl win, you know, we're trying to go for the Big 12 championship.
- 31:25SPEAKER_06: And that's how you should coach your team.
- 31:28SPEAKER_06: And that's how you that's how you surprise people.
- 31:30SPEAKER_06: But um let's talk about NC State.
- 31:32SPEAKER_06: NC State, man, they are uh number 16 in the nation.
- 31:37SPEAKER_06: Uh this game at their house, Carter Finley Stadium Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- 31:43SPEAKER_06: Uh, this game is at 6 o'clock on ESPN 2, so a night game.
- 31:46SPEAKER_06: Gotta love it.
- 31:48SPEAKER_06: Um, so 6 o'clock our time.
- 31:50SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be 7 o'clock their time.
- 31:52SPEAKER_06: Uh so yeah, definitely going to the night.
- 31:54SPEAKER_06: NC State currently a 10.5 point favorite, which you know, I think is pretty fair considering I think they're like 11 and 0 in their last 11 at home.
- 32:05SPEAKER_06: And uh they're just a damn good team.
- 32:06SPEAKER_06: So NC State coming up.
- 32:08SPEAKER_06: How do you feel?
- 32:09SPEAKER_05: I feel, you know, I do feel better about our chances now that we've known knocked off these two opponents heading in.
- 32:16SPEAKER_05: And whenever you look at NC State's schedule, you start to feel a little better about your chances as well.
- 32:22SPEAKER_05: I remember remember we were in the Groomsman Lodge getting ready for my wedding, we were watching the NC State East Carolina game.
- 32:26SPEAKER_05: And East Carolina nearly did it.
- 32:28SPEAKER_05: They they nearly knocked off uh uh North Carolina State uh in their own house.
- 32:32SPEAKER_05: I mean, in East Carolina's house.
- 32:34SPEAKER_05: And you know, in many ways, they probably should have uh lost.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: So I feel pretty good about a more talented Texas tech team than an East Carolina team walking into uh Raleigh and doing this.
- 32:44SPEAKER_05: And the thing is, it's gonna be a crazy crowd, though.
- 32:46SPEAKER_05: I think that home advantage is going to be real.
- 32:48SPEAKER_05: Uh, it's a it's a special game, it's uh hashtag pack united day.
- 32:53SPEAKER_05: So I'm wondering if that's like uh something they do over there for um uh for special games, but that's it looks like they're they're hyping it up.
- 33:01SPEAKER_05: So it's gonna be tough.
- 33:02SPEAKER_05: And I I don't expect to win this game.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: I am probably gonna say we're gonna lose, but I'm not saying that it's not, it's it's like an automatic L.
- 33:10SPEAKER_05: You know, I mean I'm sure a lot of people going to the season with the hopes that NC State have slash had, they thought this was gonna be an easy W.
- 33:18SPEAKER_05: So I I feel pretty, but I do feel much better about it going in now.
- 33:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was telling you, prepod, that I I just I feel better about this game now than I did before the season started because uh NC State, like you said, they're 2-0, but uh a really, really close win uh at East Carolina, a game where they probably should have lost if they're if East Carolina's field goal kicker you know made anything.
- 33:43SPEAKER_06: Uh if you don't know in that game, um East Carolina scored the what would have been the game-tying touchdown, but the kicker missed the extra point, and then they got indefinite field goal range at the end of the game, and uh he shanked another one, and then NC State ended up holding on 21 to 20.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: Uh, and then they demolished Charleston Southern.
- 34:02SPEAKER_06: So, you know, I don't know if I'm gonna take much from uh the Charleston Southern game, but um the first thing you talk about when you talk about the Wolfpack is Devin Leary.
- 34:12SPEAKER_06: He's a uh quarterback who's thought to be a potential top two round pick in the NFL draft next year.
- 34:18SPEAKER_06: Um, he's not the biggest guy in the world, he's 6'1, but he is very talented, got a lot of arm strength on him, can make a lot of crafty throws.
- 34:26SPEAKER_06: Uh, he's sneaky around the pocket.
- 34:28SPEAKER_06: Um, last year threw 35 touchdowns to just five interceptions.
- 34:33SPEAKER_06: So uh guy clearly knows what he's doing.
- 34:35SPEAKER_06: Um, and he spreads the ball around to a bunch of different receivers.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: That's always a sign of a good quarterback.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: He trusts his team, he trusts all the guys on him.
- 34:42SPEAKER_06: Uh, but yeah, this this guy's gonna be kind of a problem.
- 34:46SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 34:46SPEAKER_05: Uh he's very, you know, he's a veteran, he's a junior, he's experienced.
- 34:50SPEAKER_05: Uh, he's like one of the uh ACC favorites, uh, likewise, one of the best players out there.
- 34:56SPEAKER_05: Um, and he's got he's he's surrounded by veterans, you know, he's got experience all over the place on offense, and that's obviously bodes very well.
- 35:02SPEAKER_05: That's that's why they have so much hype.
- 35:04SPEAKER_05: You don't really see this kind of hype for an NC State team normally, you know, but now it's since they're just so experienced, that's what everyone's basing their uh predictions on.
- 35:13SPEAKER_05: And also, I as I'm looking at their schedule, it appears this game is indeed sold out.
- 35:18SPEAKER_05: So, like I said, that the uh the home field advantage is gonna be real.
- 35:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:23SPEAKER_06: You're going into a raucous environment over there in Raleigh, and uh, you know, those fans really care over there, and it's awesome to see.
- 35:29SPEAKER_06: And I'm glad you know our team's gonna experience something like this because you're going into a bunch of crazy environments this year.
- 35:37SPEAKER_06: You know, you're going uh you're going to K State, you're going to Ames, Iowa, you know, you're going to uh fan bases that really give a crap.
- 35:44SPEAKER_06: And this is a good first test for Joey and and uh a really tough one at that.
- 35:49SPEAKER_06: But um their receivers, they have a couple uh on this team.
- 35:53SPEAKER_06: Like I said, Devin uh Leary likes to spread the ball around, but Thayer Thomas, number five, and number 88, Devin Carter are guys to watch on the receiving core.
- 36:02SPEAKER_06: Uh, just experienced players, uh, really good receivers out there.
- 36:05SPEAKER_06: Um, it looks like they have a pretty good running back.
- 36:08SPEAKER_06: They didn't uh I I did some research on him before the season, and it didn't it seemed like the running back position was the most questionable for NC State.
- 36:18SPEAKER_06: And it seems like they found a guy in Demi Sumo Carnbaye, I think is that I don't know.
- 36:25SPEAKER_06: I probably messed it up, but he's averaging 7.1 yards per carry in the first two games, and that's not something I can mess up.
- 36:31SPEAKER_06: Uh he's uh he's really good.
- 36:33SPEAKER_06: He's really good, he's explosive.
- 36:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, he gets through the blockers and uh you know finds a way to gain yardage for this team.
- 36:40SPEAKER_06: Uh, but you know, the the big part about this team and what makes them really good is their defense.
- 36:46SPEAKER_06: Uh they have a really good pass rush, uh defensive line that is just as good, if not better, than Houston.
- 36:53SPEAKER_06: Um, and solid linebackers in a secondary to back them up.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: So uh this is gonna be a real test for Donovan and the offense here.
- 37:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that could surely make you a little uh nervous for our O-line then, right?
- 37:04SPEAKER_05: Uh it's just Donovan may not have much time to work with.
- 37:08SPEAKER_05: So hopefully he's kind of learned from the Houston game that you know if if the O-line is not holding it up, it's time to start getting the ball out a little faster, maybe moving out of the pocket a little quicker.
- 37:18SPEAKER_05: Um, so that makes me a little nervous.
- 37:19SPEAKER_05: Like I said, man, I I really don't know how how great it's gonna be for us in Raleigh, North Carolina, but uh that that obviously is one of the biggest reasons why it's gonna be a struggle, it's gonna be a battle.
- 37:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 37:33SPEAKER_06: And it and it should be against uh number 16 team in the nation right now.
- 37:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, um my keys to victory for Texas Tech.
- 37:42SPEAKER_06: The O-line needs to be better.
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: It just does.
- 37:45SPEAKER_06: Uh, if Weston Wright doesn't play this game, uh, it's gonna be tough.
- 37:50SPEAKER_06: I mean, uh now, you know, his backup, Jacoby Jackson, is probably our best backup lineman, but uh we just need as much experience as possible against this defensive line.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: Caleb Rogers needs to be better.
- 38:02SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, those the guys on the right side need to be better.
- 38:05SPEAKER_06: Uh it's it just the the the unit as a whole needs to be better.
- 38:10SPEAKER_06: And if they hold up and give Donovan enough time to go through his reads and make the right play, I think you have a pretty good chance in this game to score some points.
- 38:17SPEAKER_06: Um Donovan's gonna limit his mistakes.
- 38:20SPEAKER_06: No shit.
- 38:22SPEAKER_06: No shit.
- 38:23SPEAKER_06: He threw three bad passes in this game and cannot because there is no chance that we win this game if Donovan Smith throws three more interceptions.
- 38:32SPEAKER_06: So uh, you know, uh it's and and we have to just on the opposite side, we have to pressure Leary because I've watched these first two games.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: He didn't play a lot in the Charleston Southern game because they killed him, but in that ECU game, Leary threw some really bad passes.
- 38:47SPEAKER_06: And when he is taken out of his groove, and uh, you know, we we seen him not be the quarterback that he's hyped up to be.
- 38:55SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, if if we get guys like Tyree Wilson, Tony Bradford, Jalen Hutchings, if if they get pressure on Leary throughout the entire game, I think you have a pretty good chance that he's gonna make a mistake or two.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, I think if it's the same defense shows up against NC State that showed up against Houston, where you have a real fighting chance of keeping them off the scoreboard, um, especially with how how we're probably gonna struggle to get points on the board against this experienced defense.
- 39:20SPEAKER_05: I feel like if we can get good things going again, they're gonna ask they're gonna struggle to score as well.
- 39:25SPEAKER_05: So I like our obviously like our chances better wherever we can do that.
- 39:29SPEAKER_05: Um, but it's just obviously it's gonna it's gonna take us stepping up to to go up against a better in offense, probably a better offense than the Houston's, that's for sure.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, my last one, dear God, get the ball to Miles Price and Nehemiah Martinez.
- 39:44SPEAKER_06: These guys are such weapons for you, and they just bounce off defenders and get so many yards after contact and are so fast.
- 39:53SPEAKER_06: You need to get the ball to these guys.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: You completely got away from it in the second half against Houston, and you just need you saw what you can do in the first half.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: You saw what you can do with both those guys.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: And now I'm not saying they're gonna make these, you know, 50 and 60 yard touchdown passes every time with these guys, but you just need to keep them involved and spread the offense, spread the ball around.
- 40:13SPEAKER_06: Um, and and uh that's a way that you can really you know gain yardage and get better field position on on NC State.
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: We've got too many dudes to just pinpoint one guy.
- 40:25SPEAKER_05: So we we get you like you said, you gotta use these you gotta use these weapons, and we got the ones we we got ones to use.
- 40:31SPEAKER_05: So I'm with you, man.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: I think it's just make sure that everybody sees the ball and see what they can do with it.
- 40:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and getting the getting the ball to those guys, it gets the ball out quicker for Donovan, you know.
- 40:42SPEAKER_06: Uh let Miles Price do the work.
- 40:44SPEAKER_06: You know, Donovan get that ball out quick, get Miles Price in space and let him do work.
- 40:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, uh, we've seen him, he's he's fantastic.
- 40:51SPEAKER_06: So um all right, man.
- 40:54SPEAKER_06: What you got?
- 40:55SPEAKER_06: Prediction.
- 40:56SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: Oh man, you know, I'm gonna I feel like it's gonna be a similar score to the Houston game.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: I'm thinking, I'm thinking like NC State, NC State 30, and Texas Tech like 24.
- 41:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 41:16SPEAKER_06: I had NC State 30, Texas Tech 21.
- 41:19SPEAKER_06: What?
- 41:20SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 41:21SPEAKER_06: Okay and and I think it will be similar.
- 41:24SPEAKER_06: I think you're right.
- 41:24SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, I nailed, I don't mean to brag, but I kind of nailed last week.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: I said Texas Tech 33 Houston 30, and or no.
- 41:34SPEAKER_06: Did you really?
- 41:34SPEAKER_06: No, I'm sorry.
- 41:35SPEAKER_05: Or are you retconning the last episode?
- 41:37SPEAKER_06: No, I'm sorry.
- 41:38SPEAKER_06: I said I said Texas Tech 38 Houston 30.
- 41:41SPEAKER_06: That's what I thought.
- 41:42SPEAKER_06: So it was close, though.
- 41:43SPEAKER_06: I was five points off on the tech score.
- 41:46SPEAKER_06: But uh no, I mean this is this isn't gonna be a 50 burn.
- 41:49SPEAKER_06: I don't think it's gonna be a 50 burn.
- 41:51SPEAKER_06: No, it's on either side.
- 41:52SPEAKER_06: If it is on unreal, awesome.
- 41:55SPEAKER_06: Our offense worked.
- 41:56SPEAKER_06: We're gonna win the game if we score 50 points.
- 41:58SPEAKER_06: But no, uh, I think it's gonna be more of a uh ground ground and pound game.
- 42:02SPEAKER_06: If Taj Brooks gets involved and has a good game, I could see us potentially pulling off the upset here, but uh no, I do I do not think Texas Deck's gonna win this game.
- 42:11SPEAKER_06: I think it's it's but it's gonna be close and we're gonna put in a uh a good effort.
- 42:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean you you're listening to our uh score predictions right now.
- 42:19SPEAKER_05: We definitely think it's within uh a small double-digit range, and mine's a single-digit range.
- 42:24SPEAKER_05: So I I I feel I feel pretty good about our chances.
- 42:27SPEAKER_05: Wait, I think didn't you say 21?
- 42:28SPEAKER_05: So we're both single digits, so yeah.
- 42:30SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think we both think it's right there for us to take if we want to go get it.
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: And it's just I think that this this team is too veteran and it's gonna be a hostile environment at night.
- 42:40SPEAKER_05: It's just gonna be tough.
- 42:41SPEAKER_05: Like you have you don't have a whole lot going for you in that situation.
- 42:45SPEAKER_05: So I just hope they can maybe uh blot out the noise and get it done.
- 42:49SPEAKER_05: I really hope that uh you know Donovan Smith can kind of turn on this dog in a mode and just go crazy the whole game.
- 42:54SPEAKER_06: Yep, absolutely.
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: So looking forward to it.
- 42:57SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be a really fun game, I think.
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, I say that now, and then when I start watching it, and if Donovan throws an interception, I'm gonna be pissed.
- 43:07SPEAKER_06: But that's just the reactionary fans that we are.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: We're no different from anybody listening to this.
- 43:13SPEAKER_06: But let's talk about week three for the Big 12.
- 43:19SPEAKER_06: Um, we did spreads, we did picks last week.
- 43:22SPEAKER_06: Um, you edged me out.
- 43:24SPEAKER_06: You went six and three last week, I went five and four.
- 43:27SPEAKER_06: Uh, given our predictions against the spread.
- 43:30SPEAKER_06: We're gonna do it again, and in that time, we're gonna talk about uh, you know, all the Big 12 and just what we think of them and uh how we see you know these teams go going moving forward.
- 43:40SPEAKER_06: So let's start with the first game of the day.
- 43:45SPEAKER_06: Number 17 Baylor is hosting the mighty Bobcats of Texas State.
- 43:50SPEAKER_06: Uh Baylor, a uh uh thirty point favorite in this one.
- 43:54SPEAKER_06: Uh what you got?
- 43:56SPEAKER_05: Thirty points is a lot.
- 43:58SPEAKER_05: That is a big Difference.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: You know, I'm gonna go Texas State covers the 30 because 30 30 is huge.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: Tech Texas State blows, but I mean third 30 is a lot.
- 44:12SPEAKER_05: It's a lot of points to uh to bet on.
- 44:14SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna I'm gonna have to say the Bobcats barely cover, but you know, like I said, it's gonna be a barely, it's not gonna be a tight game or anything like that.
- 44:22SPEAKER_06: You're talking about a Baylor team that just came off a heartbreaking loss to BYU.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: Uh a Baylor team that is coached by Dave Aranda, a Baylor team that has a lot of talent still.
- 44:34SPEAKER_06: They're going to cover against Texas State.
- 44:37SPEAKER_06: Texas State is buns.
- 44:39SPEAKER_06: You suck buns.
- 44:41SPEAKER_06: They're bad.
- 44:42SPEAKER_06: They're super bad.
- 44:42SPEAKER_05: So they just they just whipped mighty Florida International University.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: The Panthers got wax in San Marcus.
- 44:50SPEAKER_06: You mean FIU, who has like the second longest losing streak in college football right now?
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 44:56SPEAKER_05: Sir, they're the best second longest winning streak team in college football.
- 45:00SPEAKER_06: This is uh they may have the longest losing streak in college football.
- 45:04SPEAKER_06: They're they're very bad.
- 45:05SPEAKER_06: Uh, we saw it last year.
- 45:07SPEAKER_06: Baylor is going to cover, Baylor's gonna win by 40.
- 45:10SPEAKER_06: They're gonna be pissed off.
- 45:11SPEAKER_06: They just lost to BYU in a game that uh they really, really wanted to win, and uh they didn't get it.
- 45:18SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, cred to the Kooks.
- 45:20SPEAKER_06: They played great, uh, you know, and and won the game in the end.
- 45:23SPEAKER_06: But uh no, Baylor's gonna cover the spread.
- 45:26SPEAKER_05: Look, look, I'm not saying Baylor's bad, and I'm not saying Texas State's good.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: I just think Texas State manages to cover 30 points.
- 45:33SPEAKER_06: And that might be fair.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: That might be 30.
- 45:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's a large, that's a large margin.
- 45:37SPEAKER_06: But uh let's all right, we already got some discourse here.
- 45:40SPEAKER_06: I like yes, I like it early on.
- 45:42SPEAKER_06: Um, all right, man.
- 45:44SPEAKER_06: Game of the week if it's uh 2007.
- 45:48SPEAKER_06: Um the number six Oklahoma Sooners going to Nebraska, um, fresh off of the Scott Frost firing.
- 45:59SPEAKER_06: Um, I cannot believe this line.
- 46:01SPEAKER_06: Um neither can I.
- 46:03SPEAKER_06: I simply can't believe it.
- 46:04SPEAKER_06: Oklahoma's only favored by 11 and a half.
- 46:07SPEAKER_06: I don't get it.
- 46:09SPEAKER_06: They are going to murder the Huskers, and it's going to be an awful watch for all Husker fans.
- 46:16SPEAKER_06: And their last, you know, the 10 years, I don't know, has been horrible over there in the corn state.
- 46:22SPEAKER_06: So um, yeah, no, uh, give me Oklahoma.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: Dude, I think this is like the easiest line of the week, and it's not even close.
- 46:30SPEAKER_05: I don't know how it's not more than two touchdowns.
- 46:33SPEAKER_05: It's absolutely you absolutely slam Oklahoma.
- 46:35SPEAKER_05: Um, that that's this is ridiculous.
- 46:38SPEAKER_05: And I mean, you you fire Scott Frost, you know, now you're coachless, and the line still looks like this.
- 46:45SPEAKER_05: It's just it's unreal.
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm not gonna lie though.
- 46:48SPEAKER_05: I I mean, do you think Nebraska was in the right to fire Frost at this point in the season, or do you think you'll hold on until like halfway?
- 46:54SPEAKER_06: This season was a wash.
- 46:56SPEAKER_06: They lost to Georgia Southern, they lost to Northwestern.
- 47:00SPEAKER_06: This season was a wash.
- 47:01SPEAKER_06: They should have waited the month to buy him out where it would have been like$7.5 million less.
- 47:08SPEAKER_06: Like they messed up there, but I get it.
- 47:10SPEAKER_06: I mean, Texas Tech did the same kind of thing when we fired Matt Wells.
- 47:14SPEAKER_06: It's just when you have a really bad head coach and you know nothing is gonna go good for that season, you try to get out of it as soon as you can to potentially retain some of the talent that you have on your current team, uh, you know, potentially get a new guy in there, like we got Joey in there last season, and uh to just take over early and get a head start on things and recruiting and all that kind of stuff.
- 47:36SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, I I don't blame him.
- 47:39SPEAKER_06: Uh, but if I'm you know the AD, I'm like, okay, we'll wait a month and then he's done come October.
- 47:47SPEAKER_05: Um, but you also let him save his job if he does that, remember?
- 47:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, that's bad that the no, you don't.
- 47:53SPEAKER_07: He was not gonna save his job.
- 47:54SPEAKER_07: Stop it.
- 47:55SPEAKER_05: All right, all right, I know, I know.
- 47:57SPEAKER_05: But um, you know, a problem with a school like Nebraska is I feel like they're gonna try to go to get a head coach, and you're not gonna hire a head coach during the season, so it's just it's not gonna happen.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: Uh, with with us with Joe McGuire, it's a little easier.
- 48:10SPEAKER_05: You know, you're grabbing an analyst, you know, you can definitely lock him down pretty quick.
- 48:13SPEAKER_05: Um, not an analyst, he was an assistant coach.
- 48:16SPEAKER_05: Um, but you you get what I'm saying.
- 48:17SPEAKER_05: But I do love watching Nebraska just absolutely suck.
- 48:20SPEAKER_05: I wish this upon all X Big 12 teams.
- 48:24SPEAKER_07: Me too.
- 48:24SPEAKER_07: And it was a bad day for X Big 12 teams.
- 48:27SPEAKER_06: You can talk about AM, you can talk about Nebraska, you can always talk about Colorado, Missouri.
- 48:32SPEAKER_06: They're just absolute garbage.
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: Um, who's the next Nebraska head coach?
- 48:39SPEAKER_05: Uh, dude, I have no idea.
- 48:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think everyone's everyone's obviously saying Matt Campbell, but you know, I kind of feel like if it's he's gonna leave for a job, I feel like Nebraska might be actually be one of them.
- 48:49SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 48:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, what do you think?
- 48:54SPEAKER_06: The next Nebraska head coach is gonna be Matt Rule.
- 49:01SPEAKER_05: Not a bad guess, honestly.
- 49:03SPEAKER_05: Not a bad guess.
- 49:04SPEAKER_06: Carolina's gonna do horrible.
- 49:06SPEAKER_06: They have Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback and the and Sam Darnold as their backup.
- 49:11SPEAKER_06: He's gonna get fired from Carolina, and then eventually, you know, you think about halfway through the NFL season is when Matt Rule gets fired.
- 49:18SPEAKER_06: Nebraska's gonna come calling.
- 49:21SPEAKER_06: And I mean, Matt Rule's obviously shown that he's he's a good college coach.
- 49:25SPEAKER_06: You know, he's turnaround Temple and turnaround Baylor.
- 49:28SPEAKER_06: And uh no, I uh my money's on rule.
- 49:31SPEAKER_06: I could I could very much see any of the three or four Big 12 head coaches that uh are currently rumored to go over there, Campbell, Lipold, Kleiman, and Aranda, I think are the four guys that were that have pretty high odds.
- 49:46SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I wouldn't doubt like like if Aranda left from Baylor, I wouldn't be surprised.
- 49:52SPEAKER_05: Really?
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: No, I wouldn't.
- 49:54SPEAKER_05: I'd be I'd be more surprised with Aranda than than Campbell.
- 49:58SPEAKER_06: You'd be okay.
- 49:59SPEAKER_06: I I mean I could see that.
- 50:00SPEAKER_06: I could see that.
- 50:01SPEAKER_06: I think Campbell, uh, especially well, and and Iowa State finally beat Iowa.
- 50:06SPEAKER_06: Good for them.
- 50:06SPEAKER_06: We'll talk about them in a bit.
- 50:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's interesting.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, Kansas seems to be turning around something, and yeah, not the utter garbage team that they've been the last couple of years.
- 50:16SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, but uh it's I don't I don't know.
- 50:19SPEAKER_06: I don't know, man.
- 50:20SPEAKER_06: I could I could yeah, I'd agree with you that I think Matt Campbell would leave for Iowa State quicker than Aranda would leave for Baylor.
- 50:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, I I think Matt Rule's a great pick, and I I think I think we'll kind of narrow it down to maybe Matt Rule, Matt Campbell, and uh so on.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: I I I just I don't see a program like Nebraska going for a coordinator or something like that.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: I think they want probably probably want to swing a little bigger.
- 50:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, even though I saw a stat that uh Nebraska is now up to like they've spent 50 million dollars on buyouts for their last like in the last 10 years for their basketball and football coaches.
- 50:56SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, they're buns at basketball, they're buns at everything, they're buns at everything.
- 51:02SPEAKER_06: Nebraska stinks at everything.
- 51:05SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 51:05SPEAKER_05: It started just absolutely sucking after they left the Big 12, and it's okay to see, in my opinion.
- 51:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_07: But all right, man.
- 51:13SPEAKER_07: So you got what?
- 51:14SPEAKER_07: You got Campbell?
- 51:16SPEAKER_07: I'll go Campbell.
- 51:17SPEAKER_07: I'll go Campbell for now.
- 51:18SPEAKER_06: You got Matt Campbell, I'll go Matt Rule for the next Nebraska head coach.
- 51:21SPEAKER_06: Um, next game, there's no line for it, but I guess we could talk about West Virginia.
- 51:26SPEAKER_06: Towson at West Virginia, the 0-2 Mountaineers.
- 51:30SPEAKER_06: Um, not as big of a meme for losing to Kansas as it was last year for Texas.
- 51:35SPEAKER_05: Still pretty memey.
- 51:36SPEAKER_06: Still pretty meme-y.
- 51:38SPEAKER_06: We'll see how Kansas actually does through the rest of the season.
- 51:41SPEAKER_06: But um, yeah, Neil Brown down bad, man.
- 51:45SPEAKER_05: Well, he's he's he's fine, he's so fired.
- 51:47SPEAKER_05: Oh, and West Virginia, he's just they're just looking for a way to get out of it, you know, without absolutely dumping a dump truck on him.
- 51:53SPEAKER_05: I cannot believe he has an extension.
- 51:55SPEAKER_05: I can't believe they're dealing with a guy they're trying to fire with an extension.
- 51:58SPEAKER_05: That is unbelievable to me.
- 52:00SPEAKER_06: It's like it's Cliff Kingsbury or something.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: Not even, but who would do it?
- 52:03SPEAKER_05: Like, not even, you know, because like with Cliff, you know, he had that spectacular first season, and he showed it was spectacular for the first seven games, and then it sucked.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: That is, I mean, that's when we signed him, you know.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: It was definitely uh really hot at the time, but you saw the potential with that.
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: It just uh has Neil Brown shown West Virginia they can do anything yet, like not all.
- 52:25SPEAKER_06: So well, and the and the wild part is they gave him the extension when they were 11 and 11.
- 52:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and when he was 11 and 11 as a head coach at West Virginia, they gave him a two-year extension.
- 52:36SPEAKER_04: So your last coach is way better.
- 52:38SPEAKER_06: What did you what what did you do to deserve that?
- 52:41SPEAKER_06: And now your buyout's even bigger and it's gonna be a nightmare.
- 52:44SPEAKER_06: But uh no, he's gone.
- 52:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, West Virginia's gonna win this game.
- 52:48SPEAKER_06: I I I hope.
- 52:51SPEAKER_06: I guess.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, but no, they're gonna be a bottom, they're gonna be a bottom-tier team in the Big 12.
- 52:56SPEAKER_05: They might actually finish last.
- 52:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, if if this whole Kansas thing is not an absolute fluke and West Virginia truly is this bad, it could happen.
- 53:05SPEAKER_05: They could find themselves 10th for the first, it'd probably be the first time a Big 12 team has finished last since what maybe Iowa State, uh like yeah, half a decade ago or so.
- 53:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, probably more than that.
- 53:16SPEAKER_05: But that's that would be wild.
- 53:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, definitely.
- 53:19SPEAKER_06: Uh West Virginia fans down bad right now, they're just hoping for basketball season.
- 53:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and uh they're waiting to see their new Hall of Fame head coach, Bob Huggins, by the way.
- 53:28SPEAKER_06: They're good at shooting hoops.
- 53:29SPEAKER_06: Uh well, they haven't been the last couple years, but uh, but yeah, normally they're pretty good at shooty hoops.
- 53:35SPEAKER_06: Uh no, yeah, I there's no line for it, so we just went to shit on Western.
- 53:39SPEAKER_05: West Virginia's gonna beat them.
- 53:40SPEAKER_05: It's not they're not gonna lose.
- 53:42SPEAKER_05: I mean where Townsend is.
- 53:46SPEAKER_07: Townsend.
- 53:47SPEAKER_07: Townsend.
- 53:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no, no idea.
- 53:50SPEAKER_07: Um, next game.
- 53:52SPEAKER_06: Ohio, not the Buckeyes, the Bobcats, the real Ohio University going up against uh Iowa State in Ames.
- 54:02SPEAKER_06: Iowa State, a 17 and a half point favorite.
- 54:04SPEAKER_06: What you got here?
- 54:06SPEAKER_05: I think the real University of Ohio is gonna cover.
- 54:09SPEAKER_05: I think the uh the the uh the Bobcats are going to cover Iowa State has just hasn't really turned it on yet.
- 54:17SPEAKER_05: I mean, I know they beat Iowa, but Iowa's offense is the most sus thing I've ever seen in my life.
- 54:23SPEAKER_07: It's awful.
- 54:24SPEAKER_05: It's awful.
- 54:24SPEAKER_05: Obviously, they have a good defense, but even still, man, yeah, I I don't know if Iowa State has it.
- 54:30SPEAKER_05: I think they're gonna I think they're gonna look at more of a 500-year overall, but I mean they're not gonna they're not gonna lose the Bobcats, but I think the Bobcats cover.
- 54:36SPEAKER_05: I bet if I bet it's only like a two touchdown win.
- 54:39SPEAKER_06: Congrats to future Nebraska head coach Matt Campbell for finally beating the Hawkeyes.
- 54:44SPEAKER_06: I'm very proud.
- 54:46SPEAKER_06: Uh, it was again an awful game.
- 54:48SPEAKER_06: They won 10 to 7.
- 54:50SPEAKER_06: It was terrible.
- 54:50SPEAKER_06: It was the worst game I've ever seen.
- 54:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, well, besides the first Iowa game against South Dakota State.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: Um, give me, yeah, I'll agree with you.
- 55:00SPEAKER_06: Go Bobcats, big Ohio guy over here.
- 55:02SPEAKER_06: Uh, I I got them I got them covering.
- 55:05SPEAKER_06: Uh, they're not gonna beat Iowa State, but they're gonna cover this 17 and a half.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: Uh, yeah.
- 55:10SPEAKER_06: Iowa State hasn't shown a ton, uh, especially offensively this year.
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: Um, it seems like their one nice weapon is Xavier Hutchinson, and after that, it gets really thin.
- 55:22SPEAKER_06: So uh yeah, give me the Bobcats uh covering this one.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: I agree, man.
- 55:27SPEAKER_05: The R R R Ohio Bobcats.
- 55:30SPEAKER_06: Big big fans uh over here at Talk and Tech of the Ohio Bobcats.
- 55:35SPEAKER_06: Um, next game, Tulane, the the Green Wave visiting Manhattan, Kansas.
- 55:43SPEAKER_06: Uh Kansas State a 15 and a half point favorite.
- 55:46SPEAKER_06: Um what you got?
- 55:49SPEAKER_05: I have Kansas State covering this.
- 55:51SPEAKER_05: Um can't Kansas State seems to just be pounding on their competition right now.
- 55:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I don't know how good they are quite yet.
- 55:58SPEAKER_05: I do think they're in the upper half of the Big 12 this year.
- 56:01SPEAKER_05: Um, Missouri is probably just buns.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: Buns is the word of the podcast.
- 56:05SPEAKER_05: Um they're buns.
- 56:06SPEAKER_05: And they they I think they blew out their first what first FCS opponent opponent as well.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: No, they played Sonny Cumbie.
- 56:12SPEAKER_06: They kicked LaTeX butt.
- 56:15SPEAKER_05: No, you're thinking no the Missouri.
- 56:16SPEAKER_05: I'm talking about Kansas State.
- 56:17SPEAKER_07: Oh, okay, okay.
- 56:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, Missouri's buns, though.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: Uh, but no, no, Kansas State is definitely better than a than two touchdowns against Tulane.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: I'm definitely gonna take K-State covering that.
- 56:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I will too.
- 56:31SPEAKER_06: I mean, they scored a ton on Missouri, and Missouri's probably a better team than Tulane, right?
- 56:38SPEAKER_06: So I don't know.
- 56:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'll agree with you.
- 56:40SPEAKER_06: I'll go, I'll go K-State covering this one.
- 56:42SPEAKER_06: Uh, and it's an in Manhattan, you know.
- 56:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's that's a tough home field advantage.
- 56:47SPEAKER_06: So um, yeah, we both got Kansas State there.
- 56:50SPEAKER_06: Kansas at Houston.
- 56:53SPEAKER_06: This game is interesting, yeah, very interesting.
- 56:57SPEAKER_06: Uh, it's at Houston, so you know, give uh give the Koog fans some love after we just beat them.
- 57:03SPEAKER_06: Uh, Houston, a 10-point favorite as of right now.
- 57:06SPEAKER_06: What do you think?
- 57:07SPEAKER_05: This one's more interesting than it should be.
- 57:10SPEAKER_05: Kansas suddenly spiced it up, and them losing in the Jones definitely uh adjusted Houston.
- 57:16SPEAKER_05: I still think Houston covers this.
- 57:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, one one game against uh the Mountaineers, I don't think that proves anything in Kansas.
- 57:23SPEAKER_05: I I've kind of looked like looked at West Virginia as kind of a wash.
- 57:26SPEAKER_05: I think Neil Brown has been gone before the season even started, in my opinion.
- 57:30SPEAKER_05: I knew he wasn't gonna have a good season.
- 57:32SPEAKER_05: Um, so but I still think Houston covers this.
- 57:34SPEAKER_05: What are you saying?
- 57:36SPEAKER_06: I am saying that I was very wrong about Kansas.
- 57:41SPEAKER_06: Uh now, well, I don't know about very wrong, but I was wrong about Kansas.
- 57:45SPEAKER_06: I said Kansas was gonna lose to West Virginia by like three touchdowns.
- 57:49SPEAKER_06: I said Kansas was gonna lose to Duke.
- 57:52SPEAKER_06: I said can and and Kansas is better.
- 57:55SPEAKER_06: They are, I'll admit it, they are better than what they have been.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: And uh I didn't want to feed into the hype because I was like, okay, some people are picking tech to be last, like Kansas isn't gonna be this good.
- 58:05SPEAKER_06: So uh, but no, I I I'll take Kansas covering against Houston.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: Now I don't want that to happen, uh, because I want Houston to cream them because that will you know make our win seem better.
- 58:18SPEAKER_06: Um, but no, I think Kansas is you know kind of scary and they're riding off uh uh you know, a good culture can change a team.
- 58:26SPEAKER_06: And uh it seems like Leipold's got a got a really strong grasp over there.
- 58:30SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, if they're starting off 2-0, Houston one and one, they kind of know, hey, we're not really gonna make a good bowl this year uh because we're still currently in the American conference.
- 58:42SPEAKER_06: We're already at a loss, our second game of the year.
- 58:45SPEAKER_06: Um, I I could see Houston kind of sputtering a little bit and and Kansas.
- 58:50SPEAKER_06: I don't know if Kansas is gonna win this game, but I think they'll make it close.
- 58:54SPEAKER_05: Wow, dude.
- 58:55SPEAKER_05: That's that's a big that's a big take.
- 58:56SPEAKER_05: That one's that one's definitely a big disagreement there.
- 58:59SPEAKER_05: Um, I again I just think West Virginia's in shambles.
- 59:02SPEAKER_05: I know I think Kansas is absolutely improving.
- 59:04SPEAKER_05: I think they finally made a good hire, but I I don't think they they beat Houston by more than 10.
- 59:10SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean I don't I mean I don't think they they they keep it within 10, is what I meant to say.
- 59:14SPEAKER_06: Okay, well, that's fair.
- 59:15SPEAKER_06: That's another disagreement.
- 59:16SPEAKER_06: We'll go with it.
- 59:17SPEAKER_06: Um Texas Tech at NC State, are they covering the 10 and a half point spread?
- 59:25SPEAKER_05: Well, if you asked for our predictions, we had them covering.
- 59:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, so we gotta cover it.
- 59:29SPEAKER_05: We gotta do it.
- 59:30SPEAKER_05: What am I gonna say?
- 59:31SPEAKER_05: What I what am I gonna say?
- 59:32SPEAKER_05: Like I put a score prediction and then disagree with that score prediction.
- 59:37SPEAKER_06: That's gonna make any sense.
- 59:38SPEAKER_06: We we both have the Red Raiders.
- 59:40SPEAKER_06: I hope we win this game outright, but yeah, yeah.
- 59:42SPEAKER_06: Either way, I think we're gonna cover the 10 and a half point spread.
- 59:46SPEAKER_06: Um, no line for Arkansas Pine Bluff at uh Oklahoma State.
- 59:51SPEAKER_06: Uh no.
- 59:55SPEAKER_06: Oklahoma State is now up to number eight in the nation, according to the latest AP poll.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_06: That's kind of cool.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_06: Um, it's kind of cool, it's kind of cool for them.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_07: Good for them.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_07: Um, no, I I don't know.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_07: There's no line.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_07: Oklahoma State's gonna win.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_07: Yes, but my lions are gonna do something.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_07: Is that what pine bluff is?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: There's a lion, yes, put some respect on it.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_05: I'll put some respect on it.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_05: It might be the pride.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_05: I might be I might be wrong, but go bluffs.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_07: They're my bluffs.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_07: They're my blue bluff.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_07: Love them.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_07: This is this surprisingly, this is the most interesting.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_07: Well, maybe besides tech NC State, this is the most interesting game of the week.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_04: And it's that it's the runners.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_05: Terrible Big 12 slate.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_06: And this is a bad one.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_05: This is a bad week for the same Houston has some intrigue, yeah.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_06: Kansas Houston, you know, uh tech and NC State is the best game of the week.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, and then UTSA, my runners, uh, of UT San Antonio, led by the GOAT Jeff Trailer, uh is are are going into Austin and uh playing the newly ranked number 21 Texas Longhorns after coming off a uh great loss.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_06: That's an SEC loss right there.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_04: That's an SEC loss right there.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_04: Quality loss.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_06: Quality loss to number one Bama.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_06: Um UT an 11-point favorite in this one.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_06: Uh just give me your thoughts on UT.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_06: What do you think about UT?
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_05: I think UT caught Alabama on a bad day.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_05: And I know that's kind of a cop out to say as the bitter rival, you know, that that just hates everything about them.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_05: But I really think Alabama was kind of playing off.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_05: I I I it kind of seemed like they were a little shook.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_05: It kind of seemed like they were a little unprepared for the game.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_05: And I really think that UT kind of just did everything they could to put themselves into the game.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_05: They did.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, they they played well against them.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, it doesn't suck losing by one point to uh to uh the the number one team in the nation, but it was still a loss.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_05: Um I I I I I don't know if my opinion on UT has changed that much.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I really don't.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_05: And with especially with all the injuries they've just experienced during that game, UTSA is probably tougher than they should be at this point.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_06: UT plays up to competition.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_06: They do.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_06: They played the national champion LSU very tight in the non-conference that season.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_06: They beat Notre Dame that one season when everybody claimed Texas was back.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_05: Texas is back.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_06: Uh they beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, I think, one year.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, Texas plays up to competition.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_06: Nobody denies that they have the talent to be a very good team.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_06: What they do, and they have been, that they built the culture over there at Texas, is playing up and playing down to their competition.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_06: Texas does not get up for every game.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_06: And now that could be different under Sark, but it didn't happen last year.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_06: Obviously, they lost to Kansas and they lost five straight games uh in the Big 12.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_06: Um I no, I don't think Texas is as good as they were last Saturday.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_06: I do think they're still a pretty good team.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_06: And if they go into, you know, in their home environment and UTSA is coming into town and they play like they did against Bama, they're gonna cream them.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_06: But I don't think they will.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_06: I don't think Texas is that type of team that is going to get up for every single game.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_06: I don't think the culture is built good enough there.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_06: Uh now it could be proved wrong, but um, I don't think I I I am gonna say that UTSA covers this game because Texas is high off their quality loss to the number one team in the nation.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_06: Now the number two team in the nation, Alabama.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_05: I respect that, and I like going for the hometown team of the runners there.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_05: Absolutely go runners.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_05: I feel I feel that in my bones.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_05: Don't get me wrong.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_05: But UTSA has kind of had a weird season, you know.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_05: They they go into overtime at home against Houston and ultimately lose, and then they go up to uh West Point and go into overtime with them as well.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_05: So I I think UT's better than Army and probably better than Houston.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_05: So I really don't think this is gonna I I think UT uh covers the spread.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_05: I do.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_05: I don't think it's gonna be a blowout, but I think it's gonna be like a 14-point difference at the end of the day, uh, maybe a 21-point difference.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_05: But I I think the runners keep it interesting for most of the game, and they scrap they're they're scrappy, but I think by the third or fourth quarter, UT kind of just puts them down and it's it's over.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_06: I just think the culture over there is these guys going into this game are saying, What is UTSA?
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_06: Who cares?
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like I'm not gonna play the same way I am against Alabama, and the crowd's obviously not gonna be the same, you know.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_06: It was a great crowd, at you know, as any crowd would be when the number one team in the nation comes in, right?
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_06: Uh, it was a it was a crazy environment, you know.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_06: Credit to them for showing up to their games.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_06: Uh, but no, I don't think Texas is gonna get up the same for every game like they did against Alabama.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_06: So uh give me the runners covering.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_06: No, I don't think they're gonna win.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_06: I think Texas is gonna win, but I think UTSA gives them a scare here.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_06: Um, I love it.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_05: I hope that happens.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_05: Go runners.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_05: I hope the runners win, baby.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_06: Big oh, that would be sweet victory.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_06: Be amazing.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_06: It'd be fantastic.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_06: Um, you know what really sucks?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_05: There we go.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_05: Go on, get to it.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_06: You know what really sucks?
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_06: Having a bye week on the third week.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_06: I forgot that's my bad.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that does suck, dude.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: They have a bye week already.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_05: Look, you gotta really take some time off after you beat uh Tarleton State.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_05: And that's gonna exhaust you.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_05: It is and it proved it with the 1759.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Win.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: That's tough.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_05: So they're exhausted.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_05: They need some time to hit their to hit the studies real quick.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_05: Dude, that sucks.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_05: How does that happen?
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_06: I would hate this if I was going into like the third week of college football.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_06: This is like my prime interest in college football right now.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_06: And and my team's not playing.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_05: So the advantage is you can't be upset that then you can just enjoy the other games.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_06: No, yeah, for sure.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_06: So yeah, TCU's gonna lose to the bye week um because of course you know we don't like them.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_05: So I mean, uh I I I saw their like um stadium entrance scoreboard video.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_05: Awful, awful.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_05: Awful.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_05: Who thought this was a good idea?
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_05: It's what is that chant?
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_04: Have they always had that chant?
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_05: That's like their chant.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_05: It's really bad.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_05: It's like lickety lickety riff bam zoo or something.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_05: It's it's terrible.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_06: Just nonsense words.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_05: It's really bad.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_05: It's really bad.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_06: It's like watching the uh Texas AM uh uh midnight yell.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_06: It's not quite that cringe.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_04: That's that's all pretty bad.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_04: That's to the moon cringe, right there.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_06: That is to the moon cringe.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_05: That is S-tier cringe.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_06: Okay, I guess we'll just we've opened the floodgates.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_06: Texas AM lost to Appalachian State.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_06: Hilarious.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_06: This is the best thing ever.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_06: Uh Texas AM, forever eight and four against Chabot Fisher.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_06: He's the most overrated coach in college football.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_05: I was just about to ask, is he the most overrated coach in all of college football?
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_06: He's the most overrated coach in all of college football.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_06: He won a national championship with one of the best college quarterbacks ever.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_06: Uh, I know, meme, all you want about Jameis Winston, but he was unbelievable.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, so no, yeah, he I mean, he hasn't done it.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_06: He's had what, I don't know, three straight top five recruiting classes.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_06: And uh, no, they lost to Appalachian State at home.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_06: Um, and then all the videos come out of the Midnight Yale where they're talking so much mess about the the rednecks of Boone, North Carolina, when uh you know they're they're just a bunch of dorks.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_05: That's it's really dorky.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_05: And I know I'm it's the perfect word for it.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_05: I love that you use the word dork because it just works, man.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_05: Like it's just the appropriate amount of you know, gotcha.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_05: And I mean that that uh that midnight yells is the funniest sequence I've seen on CFB Twitter in a while to see AM try to tear down everybody posting the video, it's hilarious.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_05: Like it's it's y'all's own tradition, and you're out here trying to block people from seeing it.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_05: So are you admitting that it's an awful tradition?
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_05: Because I hope you are.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_05: I don't know how I really don't know how like even die hard Aggie fans can sit here and say, Yes, this is cool.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_05: It's not cool.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_05: Like you're you're you're going to the football stadium, you're packing the football stadium to listen to a few male cheerleaders uh talk mess about the the school you're about to play while they do weird dance movements and and and say whoop.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_05: Like I I don't get it.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: Um, and that's obviously oh, you just it's just you don't get it.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_05: But seriously, no, it's weird, dude.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_05: That that you're a dork.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_06: It's weird.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_06: They're such dorks.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_06: It's uh AM is like that like 12-year-old kid in the class that still like eats glue.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_07: It's just like, why are you doing this?
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_07: Stop it.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_07: It looks it it looks a hall of talk, it's like Hall of Fame moment right there.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_06: It looks so terrible on your entire fan base that not only like like I told I talked about this earlier with you, prepod, the midnight yell itself is not the worst idea in the world.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_06: You're getting a bunch of your students and you're gathering together the night before a game and you're getting ready to you know root on your team.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_06: That itself is fine.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_06: What AM does is they then make it so cringy and weird with these different chants that nobody understands, with different, oh, if you're a freshman, you can't ah, or you can't whoop.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_06: Uh and then you do these little leg movements that don't make any sense, and you tell terrible jokes, and you do a bunch of push-ups and a bunch of people cheer, and nothing makes sense.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_06: And uh Texas AM is a backwards place.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_05: God, I wish we still played them every once in a while, man.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_05: I I I do I do miss that.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_05: I wish we could have that again, but oh my god, I I I love that they lost that game because you know they're like going to they were talking so much mess in the offseason.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_05: How no, we're real national championship favorites, we're gonna win the SEC this year.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_05: Um, and then you go and lose to a G5 team, a Sunbelt team at home.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_05: And as we've had like the worst decade in program history, and that's never happened to us.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_05: And we're not in the mighty gods given to this world sec, and we still have managed to not lose to a g5 or fcs team at home.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_05: We don't get me wrong, we we've tried to, we've tried to do it, but it's it thankfully has not happened, has not happened yet.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_05: We we didn't do it with number one recruiting classes, yeah.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_07: This yeah, that was so funny.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_07: I love how everybody's I this happens all the time.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_06: Like eventually, when AM loses a big game, something from the midnight yell the night before comes out, and everybody makes fun of it.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_06: This time it felt like everybody was piling on it, and like fan bases that just have no idea how weird Texas AM is are now realizing how weird Texas AM is.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_05: I'm glad everyone else is finally in our boat and dealing with what we had to deal with in the Lone Star state.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_05: So fantastic.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_05: It was the perfect top off to the weekend, man.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_05: I I was like, I was like, first we gotta beat Houston, and then I'm about to go crazy and talk so much mess to AM.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, I was over here that I think the game happened at the same time the tech game did.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so it was like, oh, lol on Twitter.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_06: I saw AM lost app state, but please, god, let's win against Houston.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, please let's not lose the RG5 team, but that would not have been the same level.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_05: So that's it's still still hilarious.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_05: We still won.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_05: We're two and oh, baby.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_05: You're not.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's great.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_06: We're we're two and oh, UT's lost, AM's lost, Baylor's lost.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_06: It's great.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, only us, TCU, and SMU are the only FPS teams left in the state that haven't lost.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_06: Things are good, things are good right now.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_06: Things are okay.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_06: Things are okay right now.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_06: Let's hang on to that.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_06: We'll be three and oh going into next week.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_06: Um, I wanted to give a few shouts out before we get to song of the week here uh on Talk and Tech Pod.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_06: Uh, one is to uh known Talk and Tech blocker on Twitter, Henry Columbi.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_06: Uh Henry Columbi upset win over Notre Dame.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_06: I don't know if any of y'all have been paying attention, but Henry Columbi, uh known beater of West Virginia and Matt Wells' favorite quarterback, um, went in went into Notre Dame, went into South Bend, and upset the fighting Irish.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_06: Uh, I I don't I don't know what to say.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_07: I don't know what to say.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_05: All I can say is I bet the McGuire staff feels real foolish letting Heisman Henry, letting the Columbia Magic slip away from the double T.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_05: Because look what look what the mighty Thundering Herd are doing in South Bend, Indiana.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_06: Unreal.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_06: Unreal.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_06: I can't believe it's a known blocker.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_06: I can't I can't believe Henry Columbia won that game.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_07: I don't think I'll never get it.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_07: Um, but I mean, shout out to the Thundering Herd.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_07: That was great.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, love seeing, love seeing a team like Notre Dame get upset by uh by a g5 team.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_07: Absolutely, yeah.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_07: But uh best team in West Virginia?
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_06: I don't know what's people are saying, people are saying records are I honestly they probably are so probably really are, especially whenever you have Hollywood Henry on staff, Hollywood Heisman Henry, Columbia.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_07: Shouts out to him.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_07: Uh shouts out to Keith Patterson.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_06: Yes, please unblock us.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_06: We're begging you.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_06: Um Keith Patterson shouts out ACU 2-0, first time uh Abilene Christian has started off 2-0 since 2013.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_06: Shouts out former Keith.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_06: Keith time.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_06: Keith Patterson.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_06: Gotta gotta give him some love because he was, you know, we like Keith Patterson.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're gonna ill will towards Keith Patterson head coach now over there at ACU.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_06: Shouts out Sonny Combi.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_06: First head coaching win over there at La Tech.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: I don't know who they beat, but I saw that they won.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_06: Uh that's what I'm talking about.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, probably won a great team, but go Sonny, we're rooting for you.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_06: Also, former Red Raider coach and player, shouts out Eric Morris, OC over at Wazoo, Washington State, upsetting Wisconsin.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_06: How about the former Red Raider coaches out here?
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, hey, don't forget another former Red Raider coach.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_05: Uh-oh.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_05: 2-0 out there on the West Coast, Lincoln Riley of the USC Trojans.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_04: We're allowed to say this now.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_04: We're allowed to say I forgot to put Lincoln in here.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_07: Okay, I forgot.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_07: Go go Trojans.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're Trojans.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_07: Cool.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_07: Awesome.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_07: Woohoo.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, blue bloods.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_04: Yay.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, blue bloods.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_07: I don't give a shit.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_06: Shout out Jarrett Culver signing with the Atlanta Hawks.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_06: How bad?
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, man.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_06: Get another chance, man.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_06: Because honestly, I know Jarrett's NBA career has not been great so far.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_06: Uh, he was put in a bad situation in Minnesota, and then he went over to Memphis last season, played for a really good team, and hopefully he gets something going in Atlanta.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, he's playing uh Atlanta's probably gonna be mad decent next year.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_06: I don't know if they'll be world beaters, but um shout out Jarrett.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_06: We always love guys.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_06: Uh we need more red raiders in the NBA.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_06: That's worth 100.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_06: And uh, you know, glad he found the team.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, absolutely, man.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_05: I I want to be able to cheer for more guys in the NBA.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_05: It's it's we're really lacking in that department right now.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_06: Uh I had another shout-out, and uh, we already talked about it, but Texas AM lost to Appalachian State.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_06: I just wanted to mention that again.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_05: That's a deserve, that deserves a shout-out.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, just just one more time.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_06: Um, by the way, basketball season only a little over 50 days away.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_06: That's mind blowing.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_06: That's that's okay with me.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_06: That's less than two months.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_06: That's uh that's insane.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_05: I love how uh be during the right before the football game, you we you, me, my brother were talking about basketball season.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_05: Like oh just in case we lose, yeah, basketball season.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_06: Basketball school, basketball in case we lose.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_06: No, in case we lose.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_06: Right now we're two and oh, we're a football school.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_06: What are you talking about?
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_06: We haven't lost this season.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_06: Joey McGuire's undefeated.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_06: Um, I I don't know.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_06: If you've been listening to this program for a while, you know that I'm a Spurs fan.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_06: Um, and in this past weekend, uh, the new 2022 basketball hall of fame inductees were inducted and gave great speeches and everything.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_06: And uh our guy Mani Ginobli inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_06: Shouts out to Manu.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_06: He's one of the best Spurs all time, one of the best players of all time.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_06: I freaking love that guy.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_06: And he gave a really emotional speech there at the end.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_06: Uh, maybe tear up a little bit, but uh, you know, uh absolutely love uh my Spurs guys.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_06: Tony Parker going in next year.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_06: Tim Duncan obviously already in.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_06: So wanted to give a shout out to Manu.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_06: Uh, one of the best.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, reliving the glory days, are we?
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, because the Spurs are gonna be crap, they're gonna be so bad next year, and so are so are the Rockets.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_06: Really, the Mavericks are the only one that have anything going right now, and all they have is Luca.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_06: So um, you know, that's fat no longer fat Luca.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_06: Apparently, he got skinny in the offseason.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_07: But uh, no, I love giving your brother crap by calling him fat Luca.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_07: That's all my shouts out.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_07: I wanted so many shouts out to so many former Red Raiders, uh A losing and and Manu.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, uh just just one more thing in the shouts out uh before we uh bring the bring this uh this this podcast to a close.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, I know this is a happy-go-lucky podcast and all that, but but yesterday was 9-11.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_05: And I do think it's important for uh us to to remember.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_05: I know that sounds corny, but you know, just remember all those uh innocent lives that were taking that day and how you know we're really lucky to live the lives we do, you know, and all that can be taken away from us in a moment's notice.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_05: So uh just hug and kiss the ones you love because you never know.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_05: You just never know.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_06: Beautifully said.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, we move forward and hopefully we're you know better as a country every day for um just just in general.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_05: So 21 years ago now.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know that's wild.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_06: Think about um, but yeah, man.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_06: All right, let's uh let's finish off here song of the week, and then we'll uh we'll get everybody out of here.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_06: What you got?
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_05: All right, dude.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna I'm gonna throw it your way.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_05: I'm going Louisiana style.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_05: Okay, I got Cajun flavor in here right now.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_05: Look at that.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_05: I'm going with a an underrated turnpike troubadour song.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_05: It's called Bosier City.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_05: Yes, I know the turnpike troubadours are from Oklahoma, but this this song is full-blown Cajun.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_05: It's so much fun.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_05: It's just about gambling and drinking in Bojier City.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_05: And it's just it's just kind of great Cajun Bob where you just gotta move your feet and bounce around with it.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_10: That's what we know what they say.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_10: It's gone down to Bojer City.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_10: We're gonna drink his kids away.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_06: Shout out to the Margaritaville Hotel in Bozier City.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_06: I went to a friend's uh wedding up there in Bojier City, and yeah, that's what they do.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_06: They gamble and they drink and they have a good time.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_06: So uh yeah, that's I mean, I'm sure the song says everything like that.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_06: So Bojer City actually kind of fun.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_06: Kind of fun.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_06: And they got a fun song about it, man.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_06: Listen, not not bad, not a bad spot.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_06: Um, but no, my uh my song of the week, um, Charlie Crockett, who has been, you know, immersed in the Texas or in the in the Talk and Tech Song of the Week playlist on Spotify and Apple Music.
- 1:20:29SPEAKER_06: Uh just released a new album.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_06: Deep in the talk and tech lore.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_06: He's a he's fantastic.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_06: We love it.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_06: We love it.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, but he released a new album recently.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_06: Um, A Man from Waco, I believe is what it's called.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_06: Listen, we don't like Waco, but this is some pretty pretty freaking good music.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_06: Um, he redid one of his songs from his first album ever released called Trinity River.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, it's an absolute bop.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_06: The band goes wild.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_06: Our buddy Logan uh mentioned it uh to us in the group text, and I gave it a listen, it was awesome.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_06: I've always liked Charlie Crockett's more jazzy stuff.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_06: Um, like I enjoy his country music.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_06: He's got an old soul to him.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_06: Uh, he's got a really cool vibe, but uh this song is definitely much more upbeat, much more jazzy, and I love that about him.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_06: That was Trinity River by Charlie Crockett.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_09: Trinity River, such a dirty little river.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_09: But that don't bother me.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_09: Dirty little river, solder, gimmick play.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_05: How could you say you like his jazzy stuff more than the country stuff?
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_05: Whatever, Jamestown Ferry is like the song of our lives now.
- 1:21:41SPEAKER_07: She just got Jamestown Fairy.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_06: Listen, nothing's gonna be Jamestown Ferry.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_06: It's the goat, it's a Hall of Famer now.
- 1:21:51SPEAKER_07: It's the goat, it's the goat, it's a Hall of Fame song in our Fred group, and uh we overplay it so much, and just that little at the beginning, it just keeps me smiling.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_07: I'll love it.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_05: It takes one sip of beer.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_04: All right, it's time to play Jamestown Fairy.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_06: I want the playlist of just Jamestown Ferry, like 15 Jamestown Fairies.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_06: I need that playlist on repeat.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_06: Great, on repeat.
- 1:22:17SPEAKER_06: Um, but no, I think that's gonna do it here.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_06: Um, I think so too.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_06: You know, obviously, go Texas Tech.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_06: I hope we beat the crap out of the wolf pack and we start off 3-0 and we surprise everybody and get ranked next week.
