- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorite's presented by Draft Kings.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The Crown is yours.
- 0:14Speaker 1: We are an Action Network podcast. I'm Brandon Kravitz, back
- 0:17Speaker 1: at it with the crew. The first Lady of the pod,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Kendri Middleton, the Prime Minister of DJEN Nation. Stucky, pulled
- 0:24Speaker 1: out of the deepest depths of his NCAA tournament breakdowns
- 0:28Speaker 1: to join us. Mike Calabrese hopping on today's episode as well.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's up, Mike. My people here put the mad in madness.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I love swooping in this time of year and cramming
- 0:40Speaker 1: for the tournament like it's a final exam in college.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And I feel like I'm almost there.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I have filled out an online bracket, but I have
- 0:48Speaker 1: not filled out the Once I put pen to paper,
- 0:50Speaker 1: that's when it's officially official, and that starts tonight. Kendra,
- 0:55Speaker 1: how are you doing in terms of your bracket?
- 0:59Speaker 3: You're already you just started. I'm not even close and
- 1:02Speaker 3: I've been watching college past.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Well don't we well, don't we have?
- 1:05Speaker 1: We have to fill this out within the next The
- 1:08Speaker 1: tournament starts tonight, so I like to have it filled
- 1:11Speaker 1: out before your.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Bracket Okay, yeah, yeah, it's just a crapshoot anyway.
- 1:17Speaker 4: But sure, that's all right.
- 1:21Speaker 5: We'll controversial.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'll do it for us here, say something controversial, Kenja.
- 1:28Speaker 6: I think this is the least excited I have ever
- 1:30Speaker 6: been for March Madness.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Does anybody else feel that way?
- 1:33Speaker 3: No?
- 1:34Speaker 5: No, I'll go fuck myself.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Anyways, see you, I uh, I can't wait.
- 1:43Speaker 3: For the F one season. That's the Yeah, that's that's
- 1:45Speaker 3: what I'm really.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Excited for already two races in maybe, thank you.
- 1:49Speaker 1: My excitement usually starts and ends with what am I
- 1:53Speaker 1: doing on Thursday and Friday, And the last couple of years,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I've had at least Thursday completely off, where I've been
- 2:01Speaker 1: able to just lock down in my house and obsess
- 2:04Speaker 1: over every second of round one. And that is not
- 2:07Speaker 1: the case this year. So I'm not as excited, but
- 2:09Speaker 1: that's just schedule based. I'm still just as pumped to
- 2:12Speaker 1: fill out the bracket and all of that. I imagine
- 2:15Speaker 1: that your reasoning, Kendra, is because you feel like the
- 2:18Speaker 1: underdog is dead, and that is definitely a topic that
- 2:20Speaker 1: we'll get into a little later on in the pod.
- 2:22Speaker 2: You're nodding along, you would be correct, Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I haven't no joke on everything that I love and
- 2:31Speaker 3: care about. I have missed a second, one second of
- 2:36Speaker 3: the tournament since fifth grade. Starting in sixth grade, my
- 2:42Speaker 3: my parents will always let me take off school.
- 2:45Speaker 5: You've missed a Super Bowl, Yeah, I.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Slept there a super role, But I've never missed a second.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Never worked when I actually worked in finance right out
- 2:52Speaker 3: of college, I never Those are the first two days
- 2:54Speaker 3: I took off every year.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I used to not.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I didn't go on to spring break in college, which
- 3:00Speaker 3: was the same week as the first weekend I went.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I went home, Uh, chilled with my mom for a
- 3:08Speaker 3: couple of days, and then went to our guest room.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I had some one year at a keg, uh, and
- 3:14Speaker 3: just in in the guest room and watched and just
- 3:17Speaker 3: sat for four days.
- 3:18Speaker 5: And bets of choice.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I don't know what I had. I'm not a beer
- 3:24Speaker 3: I'm not a beer joker. For some reason, I got it, uh,
- 3:26Speaker 3: I think I Uh, I don't know why I had
- 3:29Speaker 3: a keg, though I did have a keg one year.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Did you have a cup or were you just drinking.
- 3:35Speaker 3: A cop I've read it was a red Solo too.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I mean I was in college. I don't know. I
- 3:40Speaker 3: get so uh. Yeah, I haven't missed the second and
- 3:46Speaker 3: I will not miss a second this weekend, and I
- 3:48Speaker 3: can't wait. I mean, it does, it does. We are
- 3:50Speaker 3: getting to a point where the upsets are fewer, uh,
- 3:55Speaker 3: and you expect them to be less frequent. I mean,
- 3:59Speaker 3: we have the thirteenth through fifteen seeds are all thirteen
- 4:03Speaker 3: and a half plus point underdogs as of right now,
- 4:07Speaker 3: and we've never had a tournament where they've even all
- 4:10Speaker 3: been double digit underdogs. And now they're thirteen and a
- 4:13Speaker 3: half plus point and they all lost last year before
- 4:16Speaker 3: then at least one at one, and I think in
- 4:17Speaker 3: fifteen to sixteen tournaments, so the gap is growing. I mean,
- 4:22Speaker 3: even if you look at top twenty five Power Conference
- 4:23Speaker 3: teams against top one hundred mid majors this year, and
- 4:29Speaker 3: that's basically the five twelve games, not even talking about
- 4:31Speaker 3: thirteen to fifteen this year, they dominated the average point
- 4:34Speaker 3: average margin victory of close to twenty points. So the
- 4:36Speaker 3: gap is growing, so we can expect to see fewer upsets.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I think we've seen a little bit more casts this year,
- 4:44Speaker 3: but that does make the first tow days to lose
- 4:46Speaker 3: a little bit of a sluster. But were still vetting
- 4:47Speaker 3: there's still contests, there's still brackets, and there's still everything
- 4:50Speaker 3: that goes with it. I will never it will always
- 4:52Speaker 3: be my Christmas, and then on paper, it will make
- 4:55Speaker 3: for more exciting matchups down the line, because a lot
- 5:00Speaker 3: of times when you see these exciting Cinderella runs, they
- 5:03Speaker 3: usually end in disaster. You'll see these teams in the
- 5:08Speaker 3: Sweet sixteen Elite eight just get sand blasted. So there's
- 5:13Speaker 3: a give and take there, but I do I would
- 5:16Speaker 3: obviously that that's nostalgia, and I would prefer crazy Thursdays
- 5:20Speaker 3: and Fridays. But it's going to be a thing of
- 5:23Speaker 3: the past. We're gonna get some craziness, but nowhere close
- 5:25Speaker 3: to what we.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Used to get.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Can I ask a question quickly off the top, how
- 5:29Speaker 6: many brackets do you fill out? And how many are
- 5:31Speaker 6: fair game? Because I said on Twitter that you get
- 5:33Speaker 6: one bracket in one bracket, only the Bracket of integrity.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I don't give a fuck how your thirteenth bracket is doing.
- 5:39Speaker 6: How many brackets do you think are fair game? Do
- 5:41Speaker 6: you do multiple or do you just do the bracket
- 5:43Speaker 6: of integrity? As my Golick would say, let's.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Get Mike Calvaries in here, where do you land on
- 5:49Speaker 1: bracket integrity.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I cap myself at two two varieties. Usually I'm trying to,
- 5:55Speaker 4: you know, push closer to one. And you know, because
- 5:58Speaker 4: everyone's done this, you get are more immediately, Like you know,
- 6:01Speaker 4: you go through, you fill out your bracket, then you
- 6:04Speaker 4: hear one talking head on TV or you hear one
- 6:06Speaker 4: piece of injury news, and it has this ripple effect
- 6:09Speaker 4: where all of a sudden, you're changing in an entire region.
- 6:11Speaker 4: But I think the brack of integrity is the way
- 6:13Speaker 4: to go about it. And also I'm involved in like
- 6:16Speaker 4: six different kind of pools during March Madness, so I
- 6:19Speaker 4: already have to do the you know, beautiful minds, you know,
- 6:22Speaker 4: math equation in my head to begin with. So if
- 6:25Speaker 4: I have like four or five brackets on top of
- 6:27Speaker 4: that with conflicting interests, then then all of a sudden,
- 6:29Speaker 4: it starts to take away from the fun if you're
- 6:31Speaker 4: trying to do it. Just like in fantasy football season,
- 6:33Speaker 4: if you have more than two or three fantasy teams,
- 6:36Speaker 4: then every single Sunday is kind of a wash. And
- 6:39Speaker 4: I don't want that to be March madness for me.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yes, I kind of view it like a relationship, like
- 6:44Speaker 1: I think you can have You can have one that
- 6:47Speaker 1: you flaunt, one that you take out to dinner, one
- 6:50Speaker 1: that you discuss.
- 6:51Speaker 5: How many girlfriends do you have, yam gravits.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You can have bracket mistresses, but you can only have
- 6:57Speaker 1: one wife. So you can fill out as many brackets
- 7:00Speaker 1: as you want, but you can't just.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Submitting to adult troop.
- 7:03Speaker 5: No, I have your wife's number.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Do you have a bracket with little bracket children in
- 7:12Speaker 4: another state that you visit on a business trip every
- 7:14Speaker 4: two months? Like what is going on here?
- 7:16Speaker 2: But hey, you pay your bracket baby child support people.
- 7:19Speaker 2: That's my point. That's the whole version of this podcast today.
- 7:23Speaker 3: So when I was younger, Yeah, I'm a team one
- 7:25Speaker 3: bracket like your main bracket. Now I usually have three
- 7:28Speaker 3: because I'll join a bunch of like contests, bracket contests
- 7:32Speaker 3: like on ESPN where you can buy like three, so
- 7:35Speaker 3: but they'll be close, because you really want to get
- 7:38Speaker 3: like the Elite eight, you know, to win, you want
- 7:40Speaker 3: to get like seven of the Elite eight, of the
- 7:42Speaker 3: Elite eight, three or four final four ideally four but
- 7:45Speaker 3: it's very difficult, and then hit the national champion my
- 7:48Speaker 3: like main uh, you know, end of the bracket will
- 7:53Speaker 3: be similar, and then I'll just have like little derivations
- 7:57Speaker 3: of that with like maybe change one of the upsets
- 8:01Speaker 3: that I'm going for and uh, and then change one
- 8:05Speaker 3: of the games I'm very conflicted on that might have
- 8:06Speaker 3: a ripple fact. But I'll have my one bracket that
- 8:09Speaker 3: I'll enter, like for like a high stakes bracket pool
- 8:13Speaker 3: where I'm only entering one and that's my main bracket.
- 8:16Speaker 3: But like Calvarys, I have, you know, Calcuttas and other contests,
- 8:21Speaker 3: weird contests, auctions like I don't I never know what's good.
- 8:24Speaker 3: So the only thing I really care about is my
- 8:28Speaker 3: bets on the first couple of days. And then from there,
- 8:31Speaker 3: well I'll reassess where I stand. And then but I
- 8:36Speaker 3: will say when I was growing up, I fell. Every
- 8:38Speaker 3: year when I was in like high school, I would
- 8:43Speaker 3: fill out one hundred brackets on ESPN, so you could
- 8:48Speaker 3: fill up up to ten for like the contest to
- 8:50Speaker 3: win a million dollars, you could fill up up to ten.
- 8:53Speaker 3: So I would do ten under my name, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: my dad, my mom, their email address, my brother, my sister, right,
- 9:00Speaker 3: I would like my aunt and I would fill them
- 9:03Speaker 3: out of a hundred brackets and then see which one
- 9:08Speaker 3: I had a really root for after like the first weekend,
- 9:13Speaker 3: which one was in like the ninety nine percentile, the
- 9:15Speaker 3: close ever got to winning it. I was in first
- 9:17Speaker 3: place going into the elite game between Illinois and Arizona,
- 9:21Speaker 3: and if Arizona won won at all, I was going
- 9:23Speaker 3: to win the ESPN contest. But they blew an enormous
- 9:28Speaker 3: lead my guy Salem Staudemayer and one of the most
- 9:31Speaker 3: the best tournament games of all time. So I used
- 9:34Speaker 3: to bult a hundred brackets, but now I'm Team one.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Quick aside, we're going to get into the assist that
- 9:42Speaker 1: all of you need. If you have not been checking
- 9:43Speaker 1: out BBOC by the way, make sure that you go
- 9:45Speaker 1: and do that full tournament breakdowns in depth, game by
- 9:50Speaker 1: game and all of that. We're going to give you
- 9:51Speaker 1: the casuals view to help you quickly fill this thing
- 9:55Speaker 1: out and hopefully have success with it.
- 9:57Speaker 2: We're going to do that. In a moment.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We've got Kendricks Question of the Week. We had breaking
- 10:01Speaker 1: news right before we went live here. The Broncos are
- 10:05Speaker 1: trading for Dolphins wide receiver Jalen Wattle Cash. The ticket
- 10:09Speaker 1: we're bringing up the Dolphins. Here on the podcast, Denver
- 10:13Speaker 1: receives Wattle in a fourth round pick in this year's draft.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Miami got Miami got a first round.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Pick along with a third and a fourth round pick
- 10:21Speaker 1: in this year's draft.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I was originally.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Upset about this, Kendra, but this is a haul for
- 10:28Speaker 1: Jalen Wattle.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I think the Miami Dolphins made out quite well here.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I agreed.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree. I put that in our chat. I
- 10:36Speaker 6: think that the Dolphins. And it's hard to like we
- 10:38Speaker 6: say all the time, all this team won this trader,
- 10:40Speaker 6: all this team lost this straight We don't know, but
- 10:42Speaker 6: on paper, I feel like this is good for the
- 10:44Speaker 6: Dolphins without question.
- 10:48Speaker 5: But like you said, who who is your point of
- 10:51Speaker 5: leak going to be throwing too?
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah? Two? Two? At Well, what'd you think of the deal? Stucky?
- 10:58Speaker 3: I have no thoughts on anything other than the tournament
- 11:01Speaker 3: right now. I agree with the Dolphins selling everything and
- 11:04Speaker 3: starting over, but I will not be wasting any more
- 11:06Speaker 3: brain cells on thinking about the NFL. Until April, I.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Thought I thought I could drag I thought I could
- 11:14Speaker 1: drag into some Dolphin stock before we get there, wouldn't.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I also disagree with signing Willis like I just would
- 11:18Speaker 3: have full tank and but I agree with them just
- 11:25Speaker 3: selling assets and building for the future. It's what they
- 11:27Speaker 3: needed to do.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I was surprised to see them trade wattle,
- 11:31Speaker 1: because it felt like when they brought in Milik Willis
- 11:33Speaker 1: it was their attempt to at least be halfway decent.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But I'm not sure that that is the case. We
- 11:38Speaker 1: have NCAA tournament breakdowns to get to. But Kendra, what's
- 11:42Speaker 1: on your mind?
- 11:47Speaker 5: But stuck, He's gonna hate this, so we don't have
- 11:55Speaker 5: to make this long.
- 11:56Speaker 6: However, I was going through my refrigerator this weekend and
- 12:01Speaker 6: throwing out all of my sauces, and the last time
- 12:04Speaker 6: I did an f Mary kill, it was the most
- 12:07Speaker 6: response I've ever gotten from any question I've done on
- 12:09Speaker 6: this show.
- 12:10Speaker 5: So FMK, honey mustard barbecue ranch.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, last time you had me fucking the snow. So
- 12:17Speaker 2: that was a sort of a weird day for me.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Hopefully no AI images based off of these responses. So
- 12:23Speaker 1: we get honey mustard barbecue ranch. Yeah, I'm definitely killing
- 12:28Speaker 1: honey mustard. They're all great, but I would kill honey mustard.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I just put that on the least amount of things.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I have to have ranch and barbecue in my life.
- 12:37Speaker 1: So I think.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I am I am marrying ranch because of its utility.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Great on a salad, great with chicken tenders, all the above,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and then I think barbecue would be kind of fun,
- 12:54Speaker 1: a fun one night stand with some barbecues, especially to
- 12:56Speaker 1: get that spicy barbecue.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Calibreese, I'm.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Marrying honey mustard. That's my og. I love honey mustard.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I'm gonna have that one night stand with barbecue as well.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Ranch.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Like listen that.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Night stand, by the way, my great name for a
- 13:15Speaker 2: barbecue joint.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yes, I do. I do agree with that assessment. I'm
- 13:20Speaker 4: not coming necessarily for the ranch people, but I do
- 13:22Speaker 4: have to say, the people that love all ranch, you're.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Not suspicious that that was reserved for the.
- 13:32Speaker 4: So like I mean, the ranch to me has the
- 13:35Speaker 4: highest you know variants, like we're gonna talk about this
- 13:38Speaker 4: in March Madness. Some teams can shoot, you know, and
- 13:40Speaker 4: beat anybody, and some people can't throw ball in from
- 13:44Speaker 4: from anywhere. Ranch? Is that to me? Like crappy ranch?
- 13:48Speaker 4: I would rather just eat a chicken tender dry. But
- 13:51Speaker 4: on the other end, it can get pretty good where
- 13:53Speaker 4: you get like the housemade ranches and milk and all
- 13:56Speaker 4: that stuff. Do I get it, But I'm killing it
- 13:58Speaker 4: just because the floor is.
- 13:59Speaker 5: So I'm with you Lockstep Stucky.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm marrying like I think I'm marrying Ranch because
- 14:08Speaker 3: you want that steady, versatile really like you can use ranch.
- 14:14Speaker 3: It's very versatile in so many different scenarios and that's
- 14:16Speaker 3: what you need to be in your marriage. And so yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 3: I mean I think I use ranch the most for
- 14:22Speaker 3: like many different things. And what do I use, like
- 14:27Speaker 3: enjoy just every once in a while is is probably
- 14:34Speaker 3: and then enjoy it a lot for like the one
- 14:36Speaker 3: I'd say it's probably honey mustard. I'd cut barcue. Well,
- 14:39Speaker 3: I'm not a huge like being in Lexington. I mean
- 14:41Speaker 3: there are there are I do we actually have a
- 14:46Speaker 3: really good barbecue place here in Lexington. Uh so Blue
- 14:56Speaker 3: Door Red State's pretty good too. But if you're in
- 14:59Speaker 3: Lexington some really good barbecue, go to Blue Door. But
- 15:03Speaker 3: I don't really cook barbecue. My wife. My wife isn't
- 15:07Speaker 3: really a big barbecue My wife's like fantastic look which
- 15:09Speaker 3: he's not a really big barbecue person. I like barbecue
- 15:11Speaker 3: going and getting it like really really good barbecue, Like
- 15:15Speaker 3: nothing beats good brisket. So I get my barbecue fixed
- 15:17Speaker 3: when like I get just occasional takeout or in traveling,
- 15:22Speaker 3: so we don't. I don't, I can't remember. I I
- 15:26Speaker 3: will occasionally buy barbecue sauce and use it on like
- 15:28Speaker 3: I think it's underrated with like fries actually sob but
- 15:34Speaker 3: I use it the least. So I'm gonna kill barbecue sauce.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I'm gonna come to see you, Kendra, real quick. So
- 15:40Speaker 4: you have like the the ogs. You go to any
- 15:43Speaker 4: fast food place, you're gonna have barbecue, You're gonna have
- 15:45Speaker 4: honey mustard, You're probably gonna have ranch. And there's always
- 15:47Speaker 4: like a new sauce that's competing to get in the mix,
- 15:50Speaker 4: like sweet and Sour had its moment kind of thing.
- 15:53Speaker 4: What do you think is the next sauce to jump
- 15:55Speaker 4: up to the big leagues. And I've always said to
- 15:58Speaker 4: Zeke has a marketing problem, and it didn't have that
- 16:00Speaker 4: tz that scares away most of the Manila whites in
- 16:04Speaker 4: this country that I, oh, no, that's that's too much.
- 16:07Speaker 4: I can't pronounce it. If they rebranded and named it
- 16:09Speaker 4: something else, I think it would be absolutely everywhere. So
- 16:12Speaker 4: that's my pick.
- 16:13Speaker 6: I feel like hot honey has to be the answer,
- 16:15Speaker 6: but I would prefer if it was sweet chili.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Yeah, hot honey. I feel like may have jumped the shark.
- 16:21Speaker 4: It's everywhere right now. Every place is trying to just
- 16:25Speaker 4: force it in McDonald's KFC, like I think it's it's
- 16:28Speaker 4: gonna burn out, but right now, I feel like that's
- 16:31Speaker 4: the leader in the clubhouse to be What about like flavored?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Uh?
- 16:36Speaker 3: You know when I think, really it makes a really
- 16:38Speaker 3: good sandwich, like when I get an Italian or something like,
- 16:42Speaker 3: or I make sandwich, I use both mayo and I've
- 16:46Speaker 3: always been a mayo and olive oil guy. But you know,
- 16:50Speaker 3: the best, like really gourmet, fantastic sandwiches, in my opinion,
- 16:55Speaker 3: have some type of flavored aoli so like you know,
- 17:02Speaker 3: could be an a with avocado, could be with garlic,
- 17:06Speaker 3: could be like Chipotle, So like flavored. I know that
- 17:09Speaker 3: they're out there, but like flavored.
- 17:12Speaker 5: That's a good answer.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I think have a room to be more a good answer.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It is crazy how the condiment on the table in
- 17:22Speaker 1: the restaurant, how ketchup mayo and mustard just said fuck off?
- 17:28Speaker 1: To everybody else. They have completely cornered the market for decades. Now,
- 17:34Speaker 1: great question by Calvary's let's keep it moving. We've got
- 17:37Speaker 1: tournament breakdowns to get to. But first a word about DraftKings.
- 17:41Speaker 6: The favorite podcast is sponsored by DraftKings sportsbook, and you
- 17:45Speaker 6: should know what DraftKings is, the sportsbook for betting on

- 18:10Speaker 2: Now.
- 18:12Speaker 1: BBOC lifer Mike Calabrese on with us today as we
- 18:15Speaker 1: finalize our brackets. Mike, I think this is arguably the
- 18:20Speaker 1: most fun time of year to be a sports fan.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I know that is perhaps a weird thing to say
- 18:25Speaker 1: for a football betting podcast, but this is just it's
- 18:29Speaker 1: such a joy to fill out the bracket. We're all
- 18:31Speaker 1: pretty much, even if you're an expert, you're just guessing
- 18:34Speaker 1: and to see it all play out and so much
- 18:36Speaker 1: of it go to shit in two days. It's just
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's a beautiful tournament. It's a reason why it's as
- 18:43Speaker 1: popular as it is. But where should people start in
- 18:46Speaker 1: terms of putting their brackets together. They're just starting to
- 18:49Speaker 1: dive into college basketball, they're doing their prep, they're listening
- 18:52Speaker 1: to you and Stucky and all of that. Where should
- 18:54Speaker 1: they start as they begin to assess the bracket.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think where they should start is there's the human nature.
- 19:03Speaker 4: If you see the one seeds just advance into the
- 19:05Speaker 4: final four of the recency bias of last year, all
- 19:07Speaker 4: the one seeds won their region. At least do the
- 19:10Speaker 4: deep dive to figure out what's the weakness for those
- 19:13Speaker 4: four teams. Duke has their injuries, Arizona does not shoot
- 19:17Speaker 4: the three point shots. So if they get into a
- 19:20Speaker 4: ten or fifteen point hole, god forbid before the second weekend,
- 19:23Speaker 4: can they shoot their way back into a game. Michigan
- 19:26Speaker 4: in terms of their depth, and Cado has not played
- 19:29Speaker 4: very well and has you know, basically proven if you
- 19:31Speaker 4: leave him open, he's not knocking down shots. And then
- 19:34Speaker 4: Florida flaming out in the SEC tournament in such a
- 19:38Speaker 4: public way, getting beat like a drum by Vandy. Those
- 19:41Speaker 4: are legitimate questions, and at least I think when you
- 19:44Speaker 4: start that way it relieves a little bit of that pressure,
- 19:47Speaker 4: perhaps as a casual to say, well, I have to
- 19:49Speaker 4: put the one seed at least to the elite eight,
- 19:51Speaker 4: if not the final four. No, you don't. Just don't
- 19:53Speaker 4: feel any pressure in that regard. And as you brought
- 19:55Speaker 4: up at the top, this is one of those events
- 19:57Speaker 4: where everybody gets to talk about it. You can be
- 20:00Speaker 4: locked in throughout the entire season or someone who just
- 20:03Speaker 4: watches marsh Madness and have roughly an equal chance to
- 20:06Speaker 4: go ahead and win your bracket. And if you go
- 20:08Speaker 4: ahead and flame out, no one knows. It's fine. Like
- 20:12Speaker 4: make sure to pair it like a couple talking points
- 20:14Speaker 4: so you can just like blend into the background. But
- 20:16Speaker 4: after that have fun with it. And that's why after
- 20:18Speaker 4: the ONEC conversation, I immediately go to find your favorite Cinderella.
- 20:22Speaker 4: You know, bone up a bit on you know their background,
- 20:25Speaker 4: their players, their coach, maybe a little school history nugget
- 20:28Speaker 4: or two, throw it out there and just have some
- 20:29Speaker 4: fun with it. I mean, I lived in New York
- 20:31Speaker 4: City for over ten years, and one of my favorite
- 20:33Speaker 4: things to do during football and basketball season was if
- 20:36Speaker 4: I was on a team and I had a significant
- 20:39Speaker 4: financial investment, find the watch party bar. There's nothing better
- 20:42Speaker 4: than rolling into a place where everyone's rooting for the
- 20:45Speaker 4: same thing, because that's really what this event should be about.
- 20:48Speaker 4: It should be enjoying it. You know, there's all kinds
- 20:50Speaker 4: of ways to make money from this, but really it's
- 20:52Speaker 4: just a crapshoot. If you treat it more like a
- 20:54Speaker 4: lotto as opposed to, you know, grinding out an NFL
- 20:57Speaker 4: Sunday card or something like that, you're just gonna have
- 20:59Speaker 4: more fun with it.
- 21:00Speaker 2: So with the one seeds, we've got some good ones.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Duke Michigan, Florida, Arizona, you said we should try and
- 21:06Speaker 1: poke some holes. Can you give me the fatal flaw
- 21:09Speaker 1: for each one seed?
- 21:11Speaker 4: So, Duke, as I mentioned injuries, Gungba is probably going
- 21:14Speaker 4: to come back. You know, is he one hundred percent?
- 21:16Speaker 4: What does he do defensively for them? It allows them
- 21:19Speaker 4: to move Boozer around, not necessarily have him be the
- 21:21Speaker 4: rim protector where he could potentially get into foul trouble.
- 21:24Speaker 4: But then Foster not being there at the point you
- 21:27Speaker 4: saw them grind out wins in a weaker year of
- 21:30Speaker 4: acc play in the conference tournament without their point guard.
- 21:34Speaker 4: He is projected to be back, maybe by the Elite
- 21:36Speaker 4: eight if he comes back. This is a team that
- 21:38Speaker 4: absolutely can turn the corner and win the national championship.
- 21:41Speaker 4: But if you're looking for them to potentially get knocked
- 21:44Speaker 4: out in the sweet sixteen, they could draw Kansas, they
- 21:46Speaker 4: could draw Saint John's. There's no reason why they couldn't
- 21:49Speaker 4: be upset in a spot like that. Then you go
- 21:51Speaker 4: to Arizona. As I mentioned the shooting, it's just interesting
- 21:54Speaker 4: from a resume and cistical profile, it's very rare for
- 21:58Speaker 4: a team to have reached the heights that the Wildcats
- 22:01Speaker 4: have this season without being able to consistently shoot the
- 22:04Speaker 4: three point shot. It's not that they can't, you know,
- 22:06Speaker 4: in terms of their season average, they're very healthy in
- 22:08Speaker 4: terms of knocking down threes, but it's just not been
- 22:11Speaker 4: a part of what they needed to pull, you know,
- 22:13Speaker 4: a game or two out of the fire. They do
- 22:14Speaker 4: it by hunting really good two point shots, So as
- 22:16Speaker 4: I mentioned, if they get into a higher scoring game
- 22:19Speaker 4: and all of a sudden they're down by five, eight
- 22:21Speaker 4: points and that pressure starts to turn where they need
- 22:24Speaker 4: to make threes really for the first time this entire
- 22:26Speaker 4: season consistently, I think that's an issue. Then Michigan, as
- 22:30Speaker 4: I mentioned, I'm not a Cado guy. You know, their
- 22:32Speaker 4: backup point guard is out, so it's going to mean
- 22:35Speaker 4: more time potentially for their freshman playing you know, a
- 22:37Speaker 4: little bit of point guard time being the primary ball handler.
- 22:41Speaker 4: All you got to do is watch that perdue game
- 22:42Speaker 4: in the Big Ten Championship, when there's a team that
- 22:45Speaker 4: is locked in defensively and can kind of structure it
- 22:48Speaker 4: so that they're taking Lendeborg away. I think there's an
- 22:50Speaker 4: opportunity for Michigan to potentially flame out before the final four.
- 22:54Speaker 4: And then finally with Florida. Yes, absolutely, I mean, and
- 22:58Speaker 4: that's a Cado bugaboo as well. It's not just that
- 23:00Speaker 4: he'll have those three for twelve nights, it's that he
- 23:02Speaker 4: can turn over five or six times and then finally Florida.
- 23:05Speaker 4: This is a preference for me. I'm not enamored with
- 23:07Speaker 4: their guards when they were playing better, really for about
- 23:10Speaker 4: a two month stretch. They did seem unbeatable because their
- 23:12Speaker 4: floor is so high, because they have the best front court,
- 23:15Speaker 4: the best offensive rebounding maybe in the last ten years
- 23:17Speaker 4: of college basketball, so that gives them the opportunity to
- 23:20Speaker 4: win games even when they're shooting, you know, around forty percent.
- 23:24Speaker 4: But if Lee and Flans do not bring it in
- 23:27Speaker 4: the second weekends, they could lose. And certainly if they
- 23:30Speaker 4: draw a Houston or in Illinois, you can't have an
- 23:32Speaker 4: off night from an offensive perspective and expect to sneak
- 23:35Speaker 4: by those teams. So that's kind of the capsule for
- 23:38Speaker 4: why these one seeds aren't necessarily bulletproof. And a part
- 23:42Speaker 4: of it, too, is the two and three seeds are
- 23:43Speaker 4: historically really good, so it's not as though there's a
- 23:46Speaker 4: big gap. There is a big gap between the mid
- 23:47Speaker 4: majors and the top twenty five teams this year, but
- 23:50Speaker 4: in terms of like you know a team that's the
- 23:52Speaker 4: last four seed and you know the second or third
- 23:54Speaker 4: two seed, it's pretty close.
- 23:57Speaker 6: Which one of the number one seeds do you think
- 23:59Speaker 6: is the most fraudile because I personally think it's Florida,
- 24:02Speaker 6: and you seem to think it's Florida as well, based
- 24:04Speaker 6: off of what you said, But I think that there's
- 24:07Speaker 6: possibility for maybe one or even two of these teams
- 24:10Speaker 6: to be eliminated before maybe a Final four.
- 24:13Speaker 4: I will actually flip just because of the path Florida.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I think, you know, in a potential rematch with Vandy,
- 24:18Speaker 4: they're not going to overlook them. They played, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 4: a fifteen round about with Vandy in the regular season,
- 24:24Speaker 4: and then obviously they got wiped off the face of
- 24:27Speaker 4: the earth in the SEC tight championship, you know, conference championship,
- 24:30Speaker 4: So I think they'll be locked in for that. And
- 24:32Speaker 4: Vandy is one of those teams that if their shots
- 24:35Speaker 4: aren't falling from the perimeter, it can get pretty ugly.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Duke on the other side, though, their path can be treacherous.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I mean, you look at that region. There are seven
- 24:43Speaker 4: national championships split between four coaches in that region, so
- 24:47Speaker 4: the coaching acumen is there. And if they are not healthy,
- 24:50Speaker 4: and it's it's not even as simple in a binary
- 24:53Speaker 4: sense of you know, does gungba and does Foster play?
- 24:56Speaker 4: If they play, what do they look like, are they
- 24:58Speaker 4: you know, laboring through in or they shell themselves? Because
- 25:01Speaker 4: if they are I don't think Duke is good enough
- 25:03Speaker 4: because then all of a sudden, from a game planning perspective,
- 25:06Speaker 4: you can just throw bodies at Boozer and hope that
- 25:09Speaker 4: he gets into foul trouble and he has to play,
- 25:11Speaker 4: you know, at like a thirty and fifteen kind of
- 25:13Speaker 4: level from a production standpoint to cover up those personnel losses.
- 25:18Speaker 5: What many wants you're talking about, I'll go ahead and stop.
- 25:20Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, from a bracket perspective, you know,
- 25:23Speaker 3: if you're in like a bigger pool, one like the
- 25:27Speaker 3: biggest thing to focus on, I think is to get
- 25:29Speaker 3: an edge is just the game theory of it, so
- 25:32Speaker 3: you know, you can find out who everyone is picking
- 25:34Speaker 3: to win. So I mean, if you just go to
- 25:36Speaker 3: like ESPN, like twenty six percent of the entries have
- 25:40Speaker 3: chose have picked Duke to win it, twenty percent have
- 25:43Speaker 3: picked Arizona. So like half the entries picked Duke in
- 25:46Speaker 3: Arizona in a big pool. So one of the things
- 25:49Speaker 3: you can do is not pick one of those two teams,
- 25:52Speaker 3: and then it's gonna be hard to bust your bracket.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Early in this new era, like before, you could have
- 25:58Speaker 3: a one we've seen ones go down and you know,
- 26:00Speaker 3: like six seven years ago it seemed to twos threes,
- 26:03Speaker 3: Like that's not gonna happen as frequently. So there's more
- 26:05Speaker 3: emphasis on getting the national champion right. The finalists, the
- 26:10Speaker 3: final four of the Elite eight, that's where you're gonna separate. So,
- 26:15Speaker 3: you know, one of the easiest things that you can do,
- 26:17Speaker 3: like it would be, are you gonna, like cram and
- 26:18Speaker 3: know all these teams in a couple of days and
- 26:21Speaker 3: all the matchups and injuries and is just pick a team,
- 26:25Speaker 3: like pick a horse that's not popular, and then maybe
- 26:29Speaker 3: you still have Duke. You know, you want to have
- 26:31Speaker 3: Duke in Arizona going to the Elite eight. It's not
- 26:35Speaker 3: gonna hurt you too much. Everyone's gonna have that. But
- 26:37Speaker 3: then you cut them off there and then have a
- 26:40Speaker 3: popular an unpopular horse, and that's basically you're rooting for
- 26:45Speaker 3: and if they win it, you're gonna have a good chance,
- 26:48Speaker 3: like someone like Perdue, I mean like they're they're probably
- 26:53Speaker 3: gonna be picked in one percent of brackets. I don't know.
- 26:56Speaker 3: H So you know, Houston was like they're now they're
- 27:03Speaker 3: probably a little bit more popular for it too. But
- 27:04Speaker 3: like Florida's at seven percent as a one seed, Michigan's
- 27:07Speaker 3: fourteen percent, but you know the Yukon is three and
- 27:12Speaker 3: a half percent. So one of the things you can
- 27:14Speaker 3: do is just and it's so easy. It's like, all right,
- 27:15Speaker 3: I'm going to take one of those teams that's not
- 27:17Speaker 3: picked as a national champion if you just want to
- 27:21Speaker 3: get a little bit of I had heads up on
- 27:27Speaker 3: a leg up on the competition in a bigger pool,
- 27:29Speaker 3: right like in a huge pool like that's that's one
- 27:32Speaker 3: thing that I would just do focus on, you know,
- 27:36Speaker 3: Michigan or Florida as your winners. If you want to
- 27:38Speaker 3: go with the ones or if you want to go
- 27:42Speaker 3: with the twos, I would look at Purdue.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the last eight champions have been top six in
- 27:49Speaker 1: adjusted offensive rating, So if you wanted to follow that trend,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and I'm curious caliberys who on this you would nominate
- 27:58Speaker 1: as one of those off the beaten path options, because
- 28:02Speaker 1: clearly you can very easily take Duke Arizona as stuck.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You was mentioning the top six this year, Purdue, Illinois, Alabama,
- 28:10Speaker 1: Duke Arizona, and Arkansas.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Of those, is there a.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Team there you'd say, I can actually see them pushing
- 28:20Speaker 1: through and making it to the final.
- 28:23Speaker 4: I mean Arkansas. All you have to do is watch
- 28:25Speaker 4: their SEC tournament, you know, Yeah, I mean woopig suey
- 28:29Speaker 4: Acuff is. In any regular year, he would be the
- 28:33Speaker 4: runaway number one pick, you know, presumptive number one pick
- 28:35Speaker 4: in the upcoming NBA draft. But this year is so
- 28:38Speaker 4: loaded that I think he flew under the radar at
- 28:40Speaker 4: least until like a last ten days or so. He's
- 28:43Speaker 4: somebody who can average thirty points per game and they
- 28:46Speaker 4: can outscore people. Now, they have plenty of flaws, as
- 28:49Speaker 4: many of these, you know, teams that are offensive heavy
- 28:51Speaker 4: due but I could see that Illinois, you know, in
- 28:54Speaker 4: terms of their offensive ceiling, they were at a point
- 28:56Speaker 4: where they were one of the highest Ken pum rated
- 28:59Speaker 4: teams offensively in the history of the database that goes
- 29:01Speaker 4: back to nineteen ninety seven. Now, they had some issues
- 29:04Speaker 4: closing out games, and they were snake bit in overtime games,
- 29:07Speaker 4: But realistically, I think that only pumps in some value
- 29:10Speaker 4: to their number, because if they had had better luck
- 29:12Speaker 4: in those colose games, they would have been a one
- 29:15Speaker 4: seed and they would have been what five or six
- 29:17Speaker 4: to one to win this tournament, but instead you're getting
- 29:19Speaker 4: them at a nice price as a three seed, and
- 29:22Speaker 4: in a matchup against Florida, I think they have the
- 29:24Speaker 4: perimeter shooting to get it done.
- 29:26Speaker 3: I would also say Arkansas their defensive metrics are very worrisome.
- 29:33Speaker 3: They don't fit the profile of a national champion. What
- 29:35Speaker 3: are they like fiftieth overall and in order to beat
- 29:41Speaker 3: we've certainly seen Cal get out coached in the tournament,
- 29:43Speaker 3: which is another factor to consider. I will say Illinois,
- 29:46Speaker 3: like Illinois has just as electric i mean, more efficient
- 29:53Speaker 3: offense than Arkansas, a better defense. And the thing that
- 29:58Speaker 3: Illinois has that because you're you're gonna have to take
- 30:02Speaker 3: out one of these four ones at some point, like
- 30:05Speaker 3: someone's gonna need to do. Who are like a step
- 30:06Speaker 3: above everyone else. But like because of Purdue's offense, they
- 30:10Speaker 3: could beat one of them. We just saw them destroy
- 30:12Speaker 3: Michigan on a neutral court. Because of Illinois offense, they
- 30:16Speaker 3: could beat one of them. And Illinois has bigs that
- 30:20Speaker 3: can shoot, so if they just get hot for a
- 30:22Speaker 3: couple of games. But these these elite teams that we're
- 30:25Speaker 3: talking about, the ones, what do they all have in common?
- 30:29Speaker 3: Florida Arizona, Michigan. Excuse me, Duke Arizona, Florida and Michigan
- 30:38Speaker 3: elite front courts and right they have elite bigs. One
- 30:43Speaker 3: of the things that could give a lot of those
- 30:46Speaker 3: teams trouble is bigs that can shoot and get hot
- 30:49Speaker 3: from the outside and pull their bigs away from the rim.
- 30:51Speaker 3: We just saw Vandy destroy Florida with their bigs and
- 30:56Speaker 3: their other non guards making a ton of shots. Florida
- 31:00Speaker 3: was giving them those shots. But you have to choose
- 31:01Speaker 3: that like and Vannies making it. Illinois, if they're bigs,
- 31:06Speaker 3: can start making threes again, pose some matchup problems, and
- 31:10Speaker 3: they can just outscore any one of those ones on
- 31:13Speaker 3: a good night. So the Illinois and Purdue are interesting
- 31:16Speaker 3: looks for your bracket and for any future's regional futures.
- 31:22Speaker 6: I was going to say what about Saint John's because
- 31:24Speaker 6: I feel like they got kind of screwed.
- 31:25Speaker 5: In their seating.
- 31:26Speaker 6: I think that they easily could have been like a
- 31:28Speaker 6: three or a four. They're someone I'm kind of looking at.
- 31:30Speaker 6: What are your thoughts about them?
- 31:32Speaker 4: I'm terrified as as a Johnny fan, my mother went
- 31:35Speaker 4: to Saint John's law. It's a team I've rooted for
- 31:37Speaker 4: which I was in obscurity for a good twenty years,
- 31:39Speaker 4: and nobody was on that bandwagon. But yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 31:43Speaker 4: They got hosed because not only are they on the
- 31:45Speaker 4: five line, they have to travel all the way to
- 31:47Speaker 4: San Diego. So they go from that absolute zoo at
- 31:50Speaker 4: Madison Square Garden for the biggiest final against Yukon all
- 31:53Speaker 4: the energy they're playing, biggies, hypnotize me for the you
- 31:56Speaker 4: know intros. The aorro was off the charts, and they
- 31:59Speaker 4: played the exact kind of game they wanted to and
- 32:00Speaker 4: that's what is seared in everyone's memory coming in. Now,
- 32:04Speaker 4: they go across the country against a team that plays
- 32:07Speaker 4: super slow three hundred and sixty third in overall pace
- 32:09Speaker 4: for I or Northern Iowa. I should say, and what
- 32:12Speaker 4: are they going to do. They're going to make sure
- 32:14Speaker 4: that they rebound the basketball. They're going to play that
- 32:16Speaker 4: pack line defense, and they're gonna say, go ahead, Saint
- 32:18Speaker 4: John's make some jumpers to beat us. They are outside
- 32:21Speaker 4: the top two hundred and three point shooting accuracy, and
- 32:24Speaker 4: a lot of what they do offensively to get momentum
- 32:27Speaker 4: is they create turnovers and then they get those runouts
- 32:29Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, they're you know, slamming
- 32:31Speaker 4: the ball and you can feel the energy shift away
- 32:34Speaker 4: from the opponent. You and I is not a team
- 32:37Speaker 4: that's going to do that. They protect the basketball, they rebound,
- 32:39Speaker 4: and they play slow, and it's kind of you know,
- 32:42Speaker 4: the atmosphere difference at Viejas in San Diego. I think
- 32:45Speaker 4: it could be a sleepy start for the Johnnies. I'm
- 32:47Speaker 4: worried they're even going to get out of the first round.
- 32:49Speaker 6: How do you choose which Cinderella story you're going to
- 32:54Speaker 6: follow or how do you pick your Cinderellas? Because I
- 32:56Speaker 6: think that that's the thing that everybody wants to talk
- 32:57Speaker 6: about in the tournament, because that's the most exciting thing
- 32:59Speaker 6: is watching big seeds go down.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Do you have a strategy or is.
- 33:03Speaker 6: It just this is all the basketball I've watched all season,
- 33:06Speaker 6: So this is what I'm going to pour into it
- 33:08Speaker 6: because it's hard, But you really do have to pick
- 33:11Speaker 6: these upsets. And yes, statistics will point towards certain matchups,
- 33:14Speaker 6: but do you pay attention to those or is it
- 33:16Speaker 6: just this is what I've seen, this is what you've
- 33:18Speaker 6: shown me.
- 33:18Speaker 5: So this is how I'm going to choose my bracket.
- 33:21Speaker 4: So living through the entire college basketball season, doing the
- 33:24Speaker 4: BBOC shows, the live shows, you get emotionally connected to
- 33:28Speaker 4: a few teams, and what I try to do is
- 33:29Speaker 4: hold on, hold on, let it go. There's just some
- 33:32Speaker 4: teams that did not get the right matchups. Hawaii is
- 33:35Speaker 4: one of them. I love the Rainbow Warriors. Their defense
- 33:37Speaker 4: is great. Their defense is special in that they play
- 33:40Speaker 4: no help defense. So because of that, they force guys
- 33:43Speaker 4: to finish one on one and they never collapse in
- 33:46Speaker 4: and allow those kickout open looks. For three. They're playing Arkansas,
- 33:50Speaker 4: you have to play a different defense because a cuffle
- 33:52Speaker 4: score fifty points, so all of a sudden, that's not
- 33:54Speaker 4: a good draw. They're fifteen and a half point dog.
- 33:56Speaker 4: I think that's justifiable in terms of, you know, the
- 33:59Speaker 4: setup that they have. But then there are some matchups
- 34:02Speaker 4: that are kind of perfect. And I look at South
- 34:04Speaker 4: Florida against Louisville, and Louisville maybe down their point guard
- 34:08Speaker 4: or if Mikel Brown is back. He's been dealing with
- 34:11Speaker 4: that sore back for the majority of the season. When
- 34:14Speaker 4: he had that month long layoff, he came back and
- 34:17Speaker 4: he had a stinker in his second game against Duke.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I think he shot one for thirteen from the field.
- 34:21Speaker 4: He's the offensive engine and South Florida is a team
- 34:24Speaker 4: that plays at a breakneck pace. They want up the possessions.
- 34:28Speaker 4: They have such versatility in their lineup. All five starters
- 34:30Speaker 4: average over eleven points, and unlike a lot of these
- 34:33Speaker 4: mid and low major teams, they have one big that
- 34:36Speaker 4: they can hang their hat on. Isaiah Nelson is six',
- 34:39Speaker 4: ten super. Athletic he's who goes for fifteen to ten
- 34:42Speaker 4: and three stocks per. Game he won't necessarily be intimidated
- 34:45Speaker 4: by a power conference team Like, louisville SO i look
- 34:48Speaker 4: at them as a sleeper to potentially make it to
- 34:50Speaker 4: the second. Weekend it's ten to one on The. Bulls
- 34:53Speaker 4: it's a team that got super hot in the second
- 34:55Speaker 4: half of the. Season in games that ended in, regulation
- 34:57Speaker 4: they finished seventeen in. One they had a couple of
- 34:59Speaker 4: bad breaks in, overtime but other than, THAT i mean
- 35:02Speaker 4: this team is ready to. Go. Ennis you, know their
- 35:04Speaker 4: leading scorer is fantastic as. WELL i like the coaching,
- 35:07Speaker 4: staff SO i try to look at the overall, resume
- 35:10Speaker 4: what they've accomplished that's. Great does it fit in terms
- 35:13Speaker 4: of the? Matchup do they take away the strength of
- 35:15Speaker 4: the opponent or are they in a position where they
- 35:17Speaker 4: can play their exact brand of? Basketball in some cases
- 35:20Speaker 4: the answers yes and others you know you're drawing dead
- 35:22Speaker 4: from the opening.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Tip IF i had, to we just talked about. It
- 35:25Speaker 3: there was no thirteenth or fifteen seats that won last,
- 35:28Speaker 3: year and now all of them are thirteen and a
- 35:33Speaker 3: half plus point. Dogs IF i offered you a. Wager,
- 35:38Speaker 3: oh by the, way we didn't mention my brain's all.
- 35:40Speaker 3: PLACES qp man as MANAS i think should be more.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Popular it's fire And Saint john's.
- 35:45Speaker 5: STUCK qp mann is.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Slaps, wait it's Like japanese j.
- 35:51Speaker 5: Mayo it's like. Creamier it's so. Good all.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Right so a lot of talk about the lack of.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Upsets last year we had no thirteenth or fifteen seats,
- 35:59Speaker 3: win and this year they're all thirteen f plus point.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Underdogs IF i gave you even, money would you take
- 36:06Speaker 3: would you on both sides of the? Bet would you
- 36:08Speaker 3: take yes or? No we get one. Thirteen we'll include
- 36:14Speaker 3: the sixteenes in, there but that's not, happening but you never.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Know, uh no one.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Expected fairly that consend a beat p due will one
- 36:24Speaker 3: thirteenth through sixteen seed? Win are you taking yes or?
- 36:27Speaker 3: No and if, yes and even if, no who could?
- 36:33Speaker 3: You what do you think is who could you really
- 36:35Speaker 3: realistically see is the one going?
- 36:37Speaker 4: Down SO i would bet, no AND i would hedge
- 36:40Speaker 4: On hofstra Over. Alabama alabama's second leading scorer got pinched
- 36:45Speaker 4: for not putting.
- 36:45Speaker 3: A tax STAT i, mean do you think one is gonna? Win?
- 36:50Speaker 4: NO i. DON'T i THINK i THINK i Think hobster
- 36:52Speaker 4: will Make bama, sweat BUT i don't think we get.
- 36:54Speaker 3: One AND i think it's might Be.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Hofstra, YEAH i Mean hofstra's matchup looks really, good particularly
- 37:00Speaker 4: With bama's the second leading scorer out for not putting
- 37:03Speaker 4: a tax stamp on a bag of, weed which is
- 37:05Speaker 4: like is this nineteen forty? Five LIKE i don't understand the.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Laws let the kids.
- 37:09Speaker 3: BURN i let the.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Kids burn For christ's, Sake. Alabama BUT i mean it
- 37:14Speaker 4: wasn't outside of, THAT i mean. Stuck i'm interested to
- 37:17Speaker 4: hear your. Take what would be the next one up
- 37:20Speaker 4: for you that you feel could really do? It troy Against.
- 37:23Speaker 3: NEBRASKA i, MEAN i don't like the match of For,
- 37:26Speaker 3: troy But troy's gonna shoot a ton of. Threes nebraska
- 37:28Speaker 3: gives up a ton of. Threes nebraska shoots a ton of.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Threes there's a lot of three point variants in their,
- 37:32Speaker 3: games so, naturally you, know And troy can match up.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Athletically nebraska's not gonna overwhelm them. Athletically that's ONE i could.
- 37:39Speaker 3: SEE i Think hasha's the most likely because number, one
- 37:44Speaker 3: one of the things that will kill teams is shot,
- 37:48Speaker 3: volume and that's just can you get up as many
- 37:51Speaker 3: shots as Your opponent's the easiest way to equalize. Things
- 37:54Speaker 3: and a lot of times these undermatched teams are going
- 37:58Speaker 3: to be at a disadvantage in that. Aspect like if
- 38:00Speaker 3: you go up against Of. Florida, uh you, know we
- 38:05Speaker 3: just talked about these teams like, that they're gonna dominate
- 38:07Speaker 3: on the offensive glass and then win the turnover. Battle
- 38:11Speaker 3: they're gonna get up more shots than, you and they're
- 38:13Speaker 3: more talented. You that's. Problematic, Well bama is a shot volume.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Loser there are shot volume. Clowns they never turn you. Over,
- 38:20Speaker 3: uh they don't get on the defensive. Glass they can
- 38:23Speaker 3: fail too much of, times like they're they fit the
- 38:26Speaker 3: profile of the, team you, know and their defense is.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Shaky their second leading scores out If hobster's. Guards they
- 38:33Speaker 3: have a really good Backcourt Cruz davis the freshman that
- 38:36Speaker 3: means been incredible if like it's gonna be a jump shooting.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Game And hobster's rim. Defense that's another thing that a
- 38:41Speaker 3: lot of these imagers on. It hobster's rim defense is
- 38:43Speaker 3: elite And bama wants to get to those And.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Hobster it's interesting too because if you are just looking
- 38:49Speaker 4: at their entire, season their stats on, defense, like, okay
- 38:53Speaker 4: for the first two months of the season they were
- 38:54Speaker 4: outside the top two hundred in a couple of. Metrics
- 38:57Speaker 4: they are top five in effectiveield goal for. Defense SINCE
- 39:01Speaker 4: i Believe february first or the first week Of, february
- 39:03Speaker 4: they've made some changes schematically and in terms of their,
- 39:06Speaker 4: rotation and all of a sudden they were just playing phenomenal.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Defense and as you, mentioned to go with that, backcourt
- 39:11Speaker 4: they have the firepower to get by one other Caveat
- 39:14Speaker 4: and this is kind, of you, know piggybacking on WHAT
- 39:16Speaker 4: i was saying To kendra. Earlier it's the matchups LIKE
- 39:19Speaker 4: i would have loved to have ridden with The Penn. QUAKERS.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Tj power absolutely put the team on his back in
- 39:25Speaker 4: THE ivy you know, tournament and that is Without Ethan,
- 39:28Speaker 4: roberts who's really their best player if he's.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Back from a.
- 39:30Speaker 4: CONCUSSION i was all excited to put them through the
- 39:33Speaker 4: round of thirty two and then they Draw. Illinois if
- 39:35Speaker 4: it was The zags against you, know you, Know Mark
- 39:37Speaker 4: few Without huff in the, LINEUP i potentially would have
- 39:40Speaker 4: pulled the. Trigger but it's just kind of a nightmare
- 39:42Speaker 4: matchup Because illinois just does everything that they, do but.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Better, Mike what about a team like Cal Baptist kansas
- 39:48Speaker 1: has been one of the sketchiest power teams in college
- 39:52Speaker 1: basketball this. Year who knows what you're gonna get From Darren,
- 39:56Speaker 1: peterson who is their best? Player what is that a?
- 40:00Speaker 1: Look as far as if we're if we're going to
- 40:03Speaker 1: attempts to get one of these thirteen seeds or lower
- 40:08Speaker 1: advancing is Cal baptists do they have a shot in?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Hell?
- 40:13Speaker 4: So in, short, No BUT i do like where your
- 40:16Speaker 4: head's at Because kansas clearly has the widest range of
- 40:19Speaker 4: outcomes in this. Tournament if they went to the final
- 40:21Speaker 4: four And peterson played thirty plus minutes and played, GREAT
- 40:24Speaker 4: i wouldn't be. Shocked they clearly have the you, know
- 40:26Speaker 4: the coach with the experience to be able to get
- 40:28Speaker 4: them through. It but when you look at Cal baptists
- 40:30Speaker 4: in terms of playing up against power teams this, year,
- 40:33Speaker 4: yes they Beat Oregon, state who's in THE. Wcc But
- 40:36Speaker 4: colorado they lose by. EIGHT byu they get boat raced
- 40:39Speaker 4: by thirty. One utah they lose by. SIX i just
- 40:42Speaker 4: think they're going to be in deep. Water And Dominic,
- 40:44Speaker 4: daniels their point, guard is. Great he's a little bit.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Undersized if self and the staff can take him away
- 40:49Speaker 4: and he doesn't, score he would need to score thirty
- 40:51Speaker 4: in this game for The lancers to, go you, know
- 40:54Speaker 4: the full forty minutes With. KU i JUST i don't
- 40:57Speaker 4: see it, necessarily BUT i understand From AT's, perspective if
- 41:00Speaker 4: you want to Bounce kansas in the very next, ROUND
- 41:03Speaker 4: i think that's a solid.
- 41:04Speaker 3: PLAY i don't hate picking picking Cow baptists to win
- 41:07Speaker 3: if you want to do that in your, bracket like
- 41:09Speaker 3: is one of the because here's the. Thing THERE'S i,
- 41:11Speaker 3: mean they're they haven't been the same team away from.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Home they're three hundred and forty eighth out of three
- 41:15Speaker 3: and sixty five. Teams perhaps the metrics been away from home. Metric,
- 41:19Speaker 3: NOW i do think that if you just take Away
- 41:20Speaker 3: Don daniels and they like they have the size to do.
- 41:23Speaker 3: That Dom daniels one of the highest hug usage players
- 41:25Speaker 3: in the. Country, now Cal baptist does have some size.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Inside they're really good two way rebounding. Teams like they're
- 41:29Speaker 3: good shot volume, wise so like they can compete. There
- 41:34Speaker 3: But kansas might probably just has too much athleticism and
- 41:38Speaker 3: Cal baptist isn't a great shooting, team so like self
- 41:41Speaker 3: can just Take daniels, Out but they haven't been the
- 41:43Speaker 3: same team away from. Home you never know if like
- 41:46Speaker 3: something flares up For. Peterson kansas has been a weird.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Team AND i mean this is it's A i mean
- 41:54Speaker 3: Cal baptist wants to slow the game. Down they do
- 41:55Speaker 3: have a guarden and get. HOT i, mean he scored
- 41:57Speaker 3: forty seven in the game earlier this, year and it's
- 42:01Speaker 3: like a Weird that game is nine five eastern on
- 42:07Speaker 3: The West. Coast so like Cal, baptists they're their like
- 42:14Speaker 3: their body clocks will be more. Adjusted just a weird
- 42:18Speaker 3: spot For. Kansas SO i don't. HATE i DON'T i
- 42:22Speaker 3: think Cal bathist is gonna get blown, out BUT i
- 42:25Speaker 3: could see it If daniels goes off And kansas just
- 42:30Speaker 3: has one of those weird. Games and the REASON i
- 42:32Speaker 3: don't hate if you wanted to pick that one is
- 42:36Speaker 3: like The kansas would then have to Play Saint john's,
- 42:39Speaker 3: presumably Although Saint JOHN'S i think has a tricky match
- 42:41Speaker 3: with you AND i Is michael. Loser they play a
- 42:44Speaker 3: pack line defense for you to shoot. Threes, now maybe
- 42:46Speaker 3: the athleticism is too. Much Maybe vitino ramps up the press.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Here they've kind of dialed back their press rates late
- 42:52Speaker 3: in the, season and there's just too much. Athleticism but
- 42:55Speaker 3: you AND i very very, experienced connected. Group we'll see
- 43:00Speaker 3: how they handle the. Layoff it's been a while since they.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Played but they don't turn it. Over they don't let
- 43:06Speaker 3: anything up in, transition they don't, go they won't go
- 43:09Speaker 3: after any offense. Rebounds they just get. Back they allow
- 43:11Speaker 3: the second lowest transition rate in the. Country and they're
- 43:13Speaker 3: very good in the defensive glass because they pack everything
- 43:15Speaker 3: in and they force you to beat them from the.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Outside Saint john's not a good shooting, team so you,
- 43:21Speaker 3: Know Saint john's a bricking a ton of threes that
- 43:23Speaker 3: the game could be ugly low. Scoring that's there's a
- 43:25Speaker 3: Chance Saint john's gets. Upset, now there's probably too much
- 43:28Speaker 3: athleticism and and talent for that to, happen BUT i
- 43:33Speaker 3: could see it in a ugly low scoring. Game so
- 43:36Speaker 3: there's a lot of casts that could happen. There but
- 43:37Speaker 3: if you presume the chalk moves, on like Then kansas
- 43:40Speaker 3: would have to Beat Saint john's and then they would
- 43:41Speaker 3: have to beat Presumably. Duke so, like if you chose
- 43:44Speaker 3: Cal baptist to Beat, kansas it's probably not going to,
- 43:48Speaker 3: be you, know a death blow to your.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Bracket is the era of the blue blood?
- 43:53Speaker 4: Dead in terms of do we need to like hand
- 43:57Speaker 4: out new blue blood names because like technically still counts
- 44:01Speaker 4: as a blue, blood but they are not. ANYMORE i
- 44:06Speaker 4: do think we probably need a new cutoff for. It,
- 44:10Speaker 4: also just in terms of the way that the nil market.
- 44:13Speaker 4: WORKS i want to bring this. Up there's going to
- 44:16Speaker 4: be some kind of reform either From washington or you,
- 44:20Speaker 4: know reformation of THE, ncaa they're going to get some
- 44:23Speaker 4: kind of guardrails on. THIS i think the most likely
- 44:26Speaker 4: outcome from legislation is that they're going to force kids
- 44:29Speaker 4: to have to sit on their second transfer the way
- 44:31Speaker 4: they used to for a year of academic. RESIDENCY i
- 44:34Speaker 4: think what that's going to do is it's going to
- 44:36Speaker 4: calm down the open free agency every single year because
- 44:39Speaker 4: as of right, now it doesn't matter if you're a blue.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Blood it matters how much money you. Have now in
- 44:43Speaker 4: a lot of, cases the blue bloods do have the
- 44:45Speaker 4: money to keep. Up but you can see these teams
- 44:47Speaker 4: being put together spending a ton of money Like kentucky's
- 44:50Speaker 4: SPENT i, believe the most money on their roster in
- 44:52Speaker 4: college basketball this, year and what did it account? For
- 44:55Speaker 4: like they weren't necessarily bumping up against the, Elites whereas you,
- 44:59Speaker 4: know Like, arkansas you know some teams that don't necessarily
- 45:02Speaker 4: have the recent, success they've been able to just go
- 45:05Speaker 4: to the market and buy some, players but buy themselves
- 45:08Speaker 4: a coach in another case and be able to compete
- 45:11Speaker 4: at the national. Level so, YEAH i think the blue blood,
- 45:14Speaker 4: thing unless they get everything set in terms of player,
- 45:18Speaker 4: movement it's it means nothing at this point because a
- 45:22Speaker 4: lot of these players are no longer thinking about THE
- 45:24Speaker 4: i want to go To North carolina Or duke for
- 45:26Speaker 4: three years and then go to THE. NBA i want
- 45:27Speaker 4: to get the right, coaching like they. Won't they can
- 45:29Speaker 4: get paid right, now so why wouldn't they and kind
- 45:32Speaker 4: of go to the highest.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Bidder it's time now for Our Draft kings tournament. Futures
- 45:37Speaker 1: new users are getting a one hundred percent profit boost
- 45:40Speaker 1: ON ncaa tournament winner. Futures so let's choose a winner
- 45:44Speaker 1: that we can use this profit boost. On, kendra we
- 45:47Speaker 1: will start with you as we go around the.
- 45:49Speaker 6: HORN i am gonna go With. DUKE i know that
- 45:52Speaker 6: you guys have been shitting on them this entire, show
- 45:55Speaker 6: but they have the best. Player if they're huge and
- 45:57Speaker 6: can gain confidence on a tougher track to A sweet
- 45:59Speaker 6: six or An elite, eight they're just stacked because of
- 46:02Speaker 6: the NIL i know that they're, injured but it just
- 46:05Speaker 6: feels like it's A duke, here and If i'm going
- 46:09Speaker 6: to put a boost on, Something i'm gonna play it.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Safe, Calabreeze i'm gonna Go.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Houston it's a team That i've basically been in love
- 46:17Speaker 4: with the whole. Year Kingson flemings as a, GUARD i,
- 46:20Speaker 4: mean it's a guard dominant. Tournament you want to be
- 46:23Speaker 4: able to have people with the ball in their hands
- 46:24Speaker 4: making things. Happen he can, facilitate he can knock down big.
- 46:27Speaker 4: Shots all you have to do is go back and
- 46:28Speaker 4: watch some of his battles in The Big twelve this
- 46:30Speaker 4: year to know. That And Chris Sinak, JUNIOR i think
- 46:33Speaker 4: is the wild card in the. Mix he had a
- 46:35Speaker 4: huge game Against kansas in The Big twelve. Tournament if
- 46:38Speaker 4: he can stretch people out a little, bit make some,
- 46:40Speaker 4: jumpers and give them more versatility on the offensive, END
- 46:43Speaker 4: i know What i'm getting with The sampson. Defense these
- 46:45Speaker 4: guys are junkyard. Dogs they're diving on the floor for
- 46:47Speaker 4: every loose. Ball they're blitzing every ball. Screen they're putting
- 46:50Speaker 4: constant pressure on. Teams and that's what it'll take to
- 46:53Speaker 4: probably get Over illinois just to get to The elite.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Eight the road is, rocky but at this price, point you,
- 46:58Speaker 4: know with this, Boost i'm gonna go with The.
- 47:00Speaker 2: KuPS, Stuckey.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I've boosted. Up i'm gonna go With. PURDUE i think
- 47:07Speaker 3: that they're peaking at the right. Time the number number
- 47:09Speaker 3: one offense right, now they just destroyed one of the
- 47:12Speaker 3: four ones on a neutral. Court AND i mean WHEN
- 47:16Speaker 3: i say, destroy they embarrass them this. Offense you have
- 47:19Speaker 3: one of the best point guards in the, country a
- 47:22Speaker 3: very good, coach a experienced. Team and the other thing
- 47:28Speaker 3: is their, Path like they Got, queens Then miami Or,
- 47:32Speaker 3: missouri Who i'm not in love, with and then above
- 47:34Speaker 3: then you have LIKE byu who has, Injuries gonzaga who has.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Injuries that's the that's the three and the six. Above
- 47:41Speaker 3: don't TRUST Nc state Or texas's, Defense Kannessas. STATE i
- 47:45Speaker 3: Think purdue walks to The elite. Eight, now they're probably
- 47:48Speaker 3: gonna Get. Arizona but at this, price like having A
- 47:51Speaker 3: purdue ticket to win The final four, Nationally i'd be
- 47:53Speaker 3: fine with having that ticket Against. Arizona they can score
- 47:56Speaker 3: and win that. Game and Then ARIZONA i think has
- 47:59Speaker 3: been your land. Mines LIKE i Think arizona's by the
- 48:02Speaker 3: the most consistent team in the. Country they have been
