- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we are talking about sleep.
- 0:34Now I admittedly, I absolutely love to go to bed early.
- 0:39I talk about it regularly to people.
- 0:41They'll say oh what time do you go to bed And I'm like as soon
- 0:44as possible, like not even joking.
- 0:46When I am out after work, I am like OK, I want to just be wind
- 0:53down immediately and I could probably fall asleep.
- 0:57By 8:30 every single night. No joke.
- 1:00That's just how I've always been.
- 1:02Now, mind you, I'm wide awake at 4:00 AM, so there's a great
- 1:06trade off in my head because I get hours and hours just to
- 1:09myself when who else is up at 4:00 AM?
- 1:12But I like that, and I it feels good to have that kind of power
- 1:16up in the morning just by myself and be able to do whatever I
- 1:19need to do. So setting yourself up for sleep
- 1:23now if you're it doesn't matter if you go to bed late or early.
- 1:27We all have our ideal time zones.
- 1:30When we like to sleep and most of us don't pay attention to it,
- 1:34we ignore it. We'll say, Oh well, I've got too
- 1:37much to do. I've got to go and work.
- 1:39I've got to finish this before I can go to bed.
- 1:41But here's the problem. If you're doing that and you're
- 1:43taking that stance, a big, big problem with that is that.
- 1:49Your brain is not at its best, most likely.
- 1:51Most likely. Unless you're a night person.
- 1:54And I have had people who are complete and total night people,
- 1:57and we've talked about like, what's the best way to kind of
- 1:59navigate that? And if you need to do your work
- 2:03at night because you're sharper at night than you are in the
- 2:05morning, great. Some people want to use that
- 2:07night time quiet just like I use the morning quiet.
- 2:11It's just the opposite. That's totally fine.
- 2:13But it's looking at your own habits and figuring out from
- 2:16your own observation of your own habits what is right for you.
- 2:21So you won't know unless you start to observe it and say,
- 2:25hey, am am I taking another extra hour at night to do this
- 2:29work? Because I'm not sharp at night,
- 2:31Because I can tell you after 7:00, That's why I refuse to do
- 2:35evening sessions. I'm no good.
- 2:38I become completely like checked out.
- 2:40I can't think anymore. I am just not on it and so I
- 2:44won't take clients late. Now If you ask me for a really
- 2:47early morning session, yeah, I have no problem with that
- 2:50because I'm sharp in the morning.
- 2:52I just can't do it at night. So when you start to like take
- 2:56on a an extra project writing, like when I write a book or I'm
- 2:59writing content for videos or whatever, I'm not writing that
- 3:03at night. I'm writing it in the morning
- 3:05when my brain is on fire and at its best.
- 3:08You've got to look at those patterns for yourself about your
- 3:12sleep and say, OK, I'm not going to screw around with trying to
- 3:16force things in when they shouldn't be there, because then
- 3:19that affects my sleep. Because then when you go to
- 3:21sleep after doing a crappy job on a project that you shouldn't
- 3:24have been doing at that time anyway, you're saying to
- 3:26yourself, Tammy, I didn't even finish this, now I'm going to
- 3:29work on it again tomorrow. So now you're taking the stress
- 3:32of your mismanaged time into that with you, and you're
- 3:35causing even more drama. So you got to eliminate that
- 3:38piece. Now there are some tricks you
- 3:41can. Obviously you can go out and
- 3:43Google as many sleep tricks as you want.
- 3:46I'm going to tell you the ones that work for me because.
- 3:48That is just I've I've over the years I have just really
- 3:52cultivated what works for me and I stick to it.
- 3:55So one I absolutely have to have it cooler bedroom has to be like
- 4:0068 degrees and I have to have a heavy blanket.
- 4:03I like having a heavy blanket all the time.
- 4:05It just makes me feel safe, so. Whether you use a weighted
- 4:09blanket or comforters or whatever, I'm also really
- 4:13figuring out if you are tolerating uncomfortable
- 4:16pillows. I can't tell you how many people
- 4:18will say, I mean, I just never can get comfortable.
- 4:20Well, you think it's your pillow.
- 4:21I'm sure it's my pillow. Go buy a damn pillow.
- 4:24Just go buy a pillow. Get a new pillow.
- 4:26Nothing is better than setting yourself up to win if you're not
- 4:29comfortable in the bed. I once had a client tell me that
- 4:33she didn't like her sheets because they had those little
- 4:35pillies all over it from the dryer.
- 4:37The little. You know, and they get those
- 4:38left if you put a sheet in with a towel, sometimes they pill up
- 4:43on the sheet and she's like, it's rough all over my skin.
- 4:46I said OK, because she kept was complaining she couldn't sleep
- 4:49well. And we started talking about it
- 4:50and she's like, I hate my sheets.
- 4:52They've just got pillies all over.
- 4:53And I said, so why don't you just go get new sheets?
- 4:55She's like, I don't know, I don't have the time.
- 4:57So you mean to tell me that every single night, every single
- 5:00night you get in the bed, you're miserable because of it and.
- 5:04You keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a
- 5:06different result. You think the pillies are not
- 5:08going to bother you one night, then another, but that's what
- 5:10happens to us as humans. We get trapped and we tolerate
- 5:14discomfort and we just learn to take it, and it never gets us in
- 5:19the right place. When we know it, we're we're
- 5:22identifying it, we know what the problem is, and we refuse to fix
- 5:25it. Elves don't come in and fix
- 5:26things at night, my friends, So figure out what those problems
- 5:32that are. Bothering you before you go to
- 5:34bed and eliminate them. You know for me, I can watch a
- 5:38show. I can't watch a scary show.
- 5:40I I can watch something if my husband wants to watch
- 5:42something, but for the most part it can't be scary ever.
- 5:47Then I have it all in my head all night so and there are no
- 5:49phones after a certain time. So pretty much when I finish at
- 5:53night I don't pick my phone back up.
- 5:55It is done. It is done until the morning
- 5:58when I come out and pick it up to look at it.
- 6:01I know that's hard for people, but it.
- 6:03Detoxes you from it. Putting the phones down.
- 6:06Putting the iPads down. Putting the computers down.
- 6:09How about let me just say it this way, Get off the damn
- 6:11electronics before you try to sleep because that will help a
- 6:14lot. And pick up a book.
- 6:17A book is always a great way to put you to sleep.
- 6:20There's something about it with a human.
- 6:22When you pick up a book and you just read, even if it's two
- 6:25pages, you will fall asleep and you will be in a way better
- 6:29state. So try the book therapy.
- 6:32See if that helps and get yourself some good rest and I
- 6:35will see you all tomorrow morning.
- 6:37Hope you have a blessed day. Bye.
