- 0:07Welcome to Group Porsche, a space for individuals to share how they found their
- 0:11group through moments of adversity. I am your host, Porsche Book are better
- 0:15known as Porsche the producer. Thank you for joining me. Let's die in.
- 0:26Hey guys, it's Porsche. I wanted to hop on here really fast
- 0:30and just connect with all of you. There's something that crossed my heart and
- 0:36I wanted to share with all of you. As always, before we begin
- 0:40these conversations, I have to start off with gratitude. So I spend my
- 0:44gratitude wheel and the letter that it landed on today was the letter O so
- 0:49o as in oscar o, as in obstacle, oh, as in October,
- 0:55oh, as an opposition all those things, right, But I want
- 0:59to really focus on the word overwhelm. Let me say that again. I
- 1:04want to focus on the word overwhelm. Have any of you felt overwhelmed lately
- 1:11with all of the integration of AI, the demand for social media, those
- 1:19of you who are entrepreneurs, with all of the constant changes of the algorithms
- 1:25on all the different platforms, anybody else feeling just overwhelmed in every direction?
- 1:32I have to admit that I've been feeling overwhelmed for the last year. I
- 1:38mean, we are coming up on a year of my mom making her transition,
- 1:45and I have to be realistic and honest that I don't remember before my
- 1:51mom making her transition and also now my father, of feeling this overwhelmed where
- 1:57I almost feel paralyzed. Can anybody else relate to that? Where you feel
- 2:00a little paralyzed because you're so overwhelmed. There's always something to do, there's
- 2:05always another task that needs your attention, or a social engagement that you should
- 2:09embark on. All the things right, But I have to say that I'm
- 2:14truly grateful for feeling overwhelmed right. As always whenever I look at life right,
- 2:23I have a very unique way of looking at things. And I have
- 2:27to say that my feeling of overwhelmed has truly been a journey, and also
- 2:32it's really helped me in the last couple of weeks to really reconnect with myself
- 2:39and push myself beyond my norm. So I want to share a little story
- 2:46with all of you today. Now, those of you who know I still
- 2:50produce shows, podcasts, all those things. Now, I have to admit
- 2:53video editing, video production, that's nothing to me almost. I mean sometimes
- 2:59I still have to look up little things on YouTube if I'm not sure how
- 3:02to do a particular function. I mean, YouTube University is the best,
- 3:07right all of us who utilize the platform for various reasons. It's the best
- 3:10thing since slight spread. Now I have to admit that, even though video
- 3:16editing is nothing to me, I have to be honest that something that I've
- 3:22always somewhat struggled with is creating flyers. Now, some of you might sit
- 3:29here and be like, well, Porscha, you can do video editing like
- 3:31it's nobody's business, But how come a flyer can be such a struggle for
- 3:37you? Well, I think, for one, I tend to overthink number
- 3:40two. I feel like at times when I've had to create flyers, I've
- 3:46tried to, in my mind make them so perfect. But what I've realized
- 3:52is simplistic is the best option. Simple is more, Less is more.
- 4:00So. Sometimes when you have all these ideas of having all these different decos
- 4:04or flowers or all these extra little things on a flyer that really don't need
- 4:11to be there, it tends to cloud I think at times the actual message
- 4:15that you're trying to deliver well, one of my good friends put me to
- 4:23the task of creating a flyer for a corporation, and I have to be
- 4:29honest, I was a little hesitant when the opportunity fell into my lap,
- 4:33and I said, well, what's the hurt, right, Let's just give
- 4:36ourselves a try and just take a stab at it. Why be honest,
- 4:42y'all. I felt overwhelmed when I reached a point in creating this flyer where
- 4:50it just was not coming out the way that I wanted to. Now,
- 4:55those of you who use Canava, Canva has so many rich features if you
- 4:58know how to use them. Canva also has all these different frame templates for
- 5:04photos. Right, if you want to have a picture and a heart frame,
- 5:08or a picture or a polygon frame, or a picture in a more
- 5:14triangular frame, right, Canvas got it all. But this particular flyer that
- 5:18this corporate client wanted, I had to build it from scratch, and I
- 5:25found myself falling into this trap in my mind of oh, it's not perfect.
- 5:31It has to be perfect. You have to. If it doesn't turn
- 5:34out exactly the way they wanted, they're gonna blast you all over the world
- 5:40in a bad light. So all the negative things right. But what I
- 5:44had to do, you guys, is I had to what I call take
- 5:47control of the situation. And what I mean by that is I had to
- 5:53be mindful of the thoughts that were permeating my entire mind and brain that was
- 6:00literally forcing me to shut down. It was literally almost like I was kneeling
- 6:04myself to my own cross because of the intrusive thoughts of my inner critic.
- 6:12So what I had to do to work through this feeling of overwhelmed from trying
- 6:16to make this flier exactly perfect is number one. I had to take a
- 6:21moment to breathe. Anybody else noticed when you're getting really stressed or tense,
- 6:28your breath starts to shallow. You're not breathing taking deeper breaths in through your
- 6:33nose, out through your mouth, like you're not taking those types of breath,
- 6:38and then when you actually do, it's almost like there's a blockage.
- 6:43Right. So I had to take a minute to take several deep breaths in
- 6:49between working. The next thing I had to do was I had to just
- 6:54take a walk. I closed my computer down and I said, let me
- 6:57just take a walk around the block with the dog and just get my blood
- 7:00circulating right, get some other thoughts in my brain, focus on the task
- 7:05at hand. So I'm diverting my focus from this flyer and putting it towards
- 7:13the task of walking my dog, mister Fletcher. And while I was walking
- 7:17him around the block, I took a moment to express gratitude. I was
- 7:24thankful for the task at hand. I was thankful for the challenge that had
- 7:28been put beforeming. But I was also thankful for the fact that I had
- 7:33an option right, that I was given an opportunity, and the fact that
- 7:39even though this corporation didn't exactly give me a quote unquote deadline, I knew
- 7:45that I wanted it to get to them a sap to meet their debtline for
- 7:50their event. And so when I came back to the house, I worked
- 7:55on a little more, worked on it for another hour, and I just
- 7:58had to call it quits for the day. You guys, I literally had
- 8:01to call it quits because I reached a point where I was so frustrated at
- 8:09number one, the fact that the flyer idea was not coming out from my
- 8:15brain the way that I wanted it to on paper. So I said,
- 8:18let me sleep on it. Let me just sleep on it for the day,
- 8:22Paul's all the rest of my work for the day, and try again
- 8:26later. Well, those of you who know, I still wake up between
- 8:31three and four in the morning. And I have to admit, even though
- 8:35I went to bed a little late that night, around eleven or twelve o'clock
- 8:41and I woke back up at two. When I woke back up at two,
- 8:45that two hours of sleep that I did get gave me an opportunity to
- 8:50rest. It gave me an opportunity to just stop everything that I was thinking
- 8:56about, all the stress, all the worry, and really give myself a
- 9:01moment to rejuvenate some new ideas on tackling this task. So when I got
- 9:07up at two, I turned on my laptop in my bed and I said,
- 9:11let me take one more stab at this task before me of this flyer
- 9:16and you guys, I have to say, I'm proud of myself because number
- 9:20one, I was afraid of it not being perfect. I was afraid of
- 9:26showing quote unquote and imperfection. But let's be honest, we're all perfectly imperfect.
- 9:31I'm saying again, we are all perfectly imperfect. And when I gave
- 9:35myself permission to realize that I don't need to be perfect what is perfect.
- 9:43I gave myself permission to give it my all, to think outside the box,
- 9:48to tackle the task at hand, to create this flyer with not a
- 9:52whole bunch of direction, but give it my own creative flare along with deliver
- 10:00bring the message for this corporate client. And I let my hands roll,
- 10:03I let my brain just go with the flow of how things were moving.
- 10:09So from two in the morning until six am, I worked on that flyer
- 10:16and I completed the task. So I decided to email it to the corporate
- 10:20client. I was surprised that early that morning I got a response back from
- 10:26them saying, this is amazing. Thank you so much. You saved the
- 10:28day. And I'm grateful that even though I was stressed out to get this
- 10:37task, this flyer done for this corporate client, I'm grateful that I gave
- 10:41myself permission to step out of my comfort zone. Right. And this is
- 10:46where I say again that I'm grateful for feeling overwhelmed right, because that overwhelmed
- 10:52feeling Number one reminded me to incorporate self care when I'm tackling a task.
- 10:58Number two it reminded me to take little breaks. Right. Rome wasn't built
- 11:03in a day, The world wasn't created a day, right, And I
- 11:05think we have to remember that when we are embarking on whatever journey that we
- 11:09are on in this life. Right. Some of us who are entrepreneurs,
- 11:13some of us who are beginning school, some of us who are writing our
- 11:16first book, maybe our second book, our third book. We get overwhelmed
- 11:20because of all the demand, all the things. Right, But I think
- 11:24if we remember to tackle or take each task one baby step, I'm gonna
- 11:31say again, one baby step at a time, and allowing ourselves to fall
- 11:39into that rut a little bit, right, Because if I didn't recognize the
- 11:45feeling of overwhelm and give myself time to take those breaks, breathe, take
- 11:52my walks, sleep, I wouldn't be able to really explain and express to
- 11:56each and every one of you that this feeling was worth it. It was
- 12:01so worth it because I learned so much about myself. We are all resilient
- 12:07creatures, right, We're all very resilient, and I think the feeling of
- 12:11overwhelm is a good thing as long as we're able to Number one, take
- 12:16a moment to breathe. Number two, give ourselves permission to take a break
- 12:24or meditate, rest, whatever that might be. And then number three,
- 12:28take a different approach. When I gave myself permission to take a different approach
- 12:33than what I normally would do, I found myself going with the current instead
- 12:41of against the current of my way of trying to always do things right.
- 12:46The same growing foot is not going to fit in the same size nine shoe
- 12:52forever. Right, We're all expanding and growing in our own way, So
- 12:56why not give ourselves that same level of openness and grace when we are putting
- 13:05ourselves to a new task that may feel a little overwhelming. Okay, I
- 13:11wanted to share that story with all of you really fast, because I know
- 13:15that feeling overwhelmed seems to be a trend right now in a reoccurring theme amongst
- 13:22me and some of my fellow entrepreneur friends. And I just want each and
- 13:26every one of you to just remember that you can take control. You can
- 13:31take control of the situation, Take control of your mind. Do it.
- 13:37Number one, Take deep breaths. Take deep breaths. Number two, right,
- 13:43give yourself permission to take a break from the task. And revisit it,
- 13:48maybe in an hour, maybe another day, depending on what your deadline
- 13:52is. Right, number three, make sure that you rest, meditate,
- 13:58And then number four take a different approach, right and cut yourself some slack.
- 14:03But number four, I gotta really leave this with all of you today,
- 14:07right when you're really passionate about getting something done right, I always remember
- 14:11why you began it. When you're embarking on whatever this task might be,
- 14:16that you're feeling overwhelmed, Remember that Rome was not built in a day,
- 14:22just like you didn't learn how to walk the minute that you came out the
- 14:26womb. So give yourself some grace during this period and use that overwhelming feeling
- 14:33to your advantage. Okay, all right, y'all, I'm about to hop
- 14:37off of here. I just wanted to connect with all of you really fast.
- 14:41I hope that you're all doing well. Love you lots, piece of
- 14:45hair, greased guys. I'm portunately the producer
