- 0:07Speaker 1: A Birdland Welcome in Trade Deadline Eve edition of Birdland Territory.
- 0:13Speaker 1: As we're now less than twenty four hours away from
- 0:15Speaker 1: the deadline six pm Eastern Monday, so we're taping this
- 0:20Speaker 1: a little before seven o'clock on Sunday night. So if
- 0:24Speaker 1: something happens at eight or nine and you don't see
- 0:26Speaker 1: it on this video, you'll know why. Things happen fast.
- 0:30Speaker 1: There could be deals tonight as we take this. The
- 0:33Speaker 1: Oriols have made the one trade of Dean Kramer. A
- 0:36Speaker 1: lot more could be coming, so welcome in Steve, Tim
- 0:39Speaker 1: and Brad. It was an uplifting Friday night at the
- 0:42Speaker 1: ballpark to come from behind wind and then the Oriols
- 0:45Speaker 1: really late at egg shut out, back to back rain
- 0:48Speaker 1: today game called after the second rain to day five
- 0:51Speaker 1: and a half innings Phillies nothing so guys, the Oils
- 0:54Speaker 1: are fifty four and fifty eight at the deadline. We
- 0:56Speaker 1: can now say there are no more games, so the
- 0:58Speaker 1: trade deadline. They do not have the look of a
- 1:01Speaker 1: playoff team with this series falling flat the way they have.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Michael Ia said Friday, they could be buyers and sellers.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Let's see what happens now. What are your guys thoughts
- 1:13Speaker 1: coming out of the Phillies.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I just don't know. At this point.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's I can't see how they could be buyers.
- 1:20Speaker 3: It was after that game Friday, you thought they're gonna
- 1:22Speaker 3: take some of that momentum into the game Saturday and Sunday,
- 1:25Speaker 3: and like you said, see just kind of fell flat
- 1:27Speaker 3: and offense wasn't able to get anything going. Boz had
- 1:30Speaker 3: a great start, and then the bullpen unfortunately kind of
- 1:32Speaker 3: let the lead get away there on Saturday, and then
- 1:35Speaker 3: today was just a rough one from the Star with
- 1:37Speaker 3: the rain, and yeah, it just kind of messes up
- 1:39Speaker 3: all the plans there. So it's I mean, they were
- 1:42Speaker 3: on the doorstep two games under five hundred, and you're
- 1:45Speaker 3: feeling good, but the vibes were high, and then it's
- 1:47Speaker 3: just now your four games under five hundred, and I
- 1:50Speaker 3: just don't. I just can't see them being buyers at
- 1:52Speaker 3: this point after the And it's tough to say after
- 1:55Speaker 3: two games, but it just kind of seemed like it flipped.
- 1:58Speaker 3: It flipped the other way. Friday you thought it might
- 1:59Speaker 3: be and now it's after two games like that. I
- 2:02Speaker 3: guess that's just the way the standings are. It's just
- 2:03Speaker 3: everything's so close, but it's a little a little tough
- 2:06Speaker 3: after those two losses.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's sort of been the story of the season, right guys.
- 2:12Speaker 4: You have the crazy come from behind when what was
- 2:15Speaker 4: it Thursday in Detroit where you're down seven runs, s
- 2:18Speaker 4: gooogles on the mound, you win Friday. The Phillies are
- 2:22Speaker 4: really really struggling coming to Camden Yards. They lost nine
- 2:25Speaker 4: of twelve coming in after the All Star break, and.
- 2:29Speaker 2: To lose the series, it's tough.
- 2:31Speaker 4: And I think Michaellias, he was very honest and candid
- 2:37Speaker 4: during that meeting with the media on Friday, and I
- 2:41Speaker 4: just think in his projections and his numbers. You look
- 2:45Speaker 4: at Fangrafts and their playoff odds are around twenty percent
- 2:49Speaker 4: or so. I think you gotta be realistic and it's
- 2:51Speaker 4: gonna be tough to sort of thread that needle of
- 2:54Speaker 4: buying and selling. But I think these next twenty four
- 2:57Speaker 4: hours are gonna be really, really fascinating because there's just
- 3:01Speaker 4: been so much smoke in terms of possible players that
- 3:05Speaker 4: are up for sale for the Orioles.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So many factors lead you to think we could see
- 3:12Speaker 1: one or two big names go from this team, and
- 3:15Speaker 1: those factors include the Oriols four games under having won
- 3:20Speaker 1: one series since the end of the seven game winning
- 3:23Speaker 1: streak they've won and three in series since then with
- 3:25Speaker 1: a losing record, so they did not build on that streak.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Other factors include it seems like many more buyers than sellers,
- 3:35Speaker 1: teams that really need a catcher, which is where Adley's
- 3:38Speaker 1: name keeps coming up here and the tea leaves are
- 3:42Speaker 1: pointing that direction, and Mike Elias when he was asked
- 3:45Speaker 1: about Adlee specifically, Friday mentioned again how much they like him,
- 3:50Speaker 1: they hope he's here. But then he said the position
- 3:55Speaker 1: the team has put us in, we have to be
- 3:58Speaker 1: open minded to end anything.
- 4:00Speaker 5: That to me was the key phrase.
- 4:02Speaker 1: There's two words open minded, meaning he, even in his
- 4:07Speaker 1: precarious personal situation with his contract and his future with
- 4:11Speaker 1: the team, still has to think about adding right now.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Almost seems foolish to try to make an int If
- 4:19Speaker 1: you could get Trek Scoogle, that's different.
- 4:21Speaker 5: They're not going to do that.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They didn't get him, and they're not going to get
- 4:24Speaker 1: a player who's a difference maker. Mason Miller is not
- 4:26Speaker 1: walking through that door. So if you're going to get
- 4:29Speaker 1: an incremental upgrade. To me, it's like, let this team
- 4:33Speaker 1: stay as is and see if they can pull this out.
- 4:35Speaker 4: And I think we've been saying this for a while,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and Brad like, if this team is going to make
- 4:41Speaker 4: a push and make the playoffs, it's going to be
- 4:43Speaker 4: about the guys that they have. And Gunnar Henderson had
- 4:46Speaker 4: that vintage moment Friday, but unfortunately not able to carry
- 4:51Speaker 4: you know, can he sustain it?
- 4:53Speaker 6: Like?
- 4:53Speaker 4: Can he carry this team? Can this offense wake up?
- 4:56Speaker 4: The starting pitching, the pitching in general. To me, just
- 5:00Speaker 4: not a player or two away. But then when you
- 5:03Speaker 4: get back to the Adley of it all, Brad, I
- 5:05Speaker 4: thought it was really telling. When Mike last met with
- 5:09Speaker 4: the media and not counting the bradish press conference June
- 5:12Speaker 4: twenty seventh, and he was asked about Adlie and he said,
- 5:16Speaker 4: I'm paraphrasing, but I wish Adley was here forever. I
- 5:19Speaker 4: wish you add more club control. To now him saying
- 5:24Speaker 4: he's open minded, I think that was pretty telling.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I think it just kind of knows that there is
- 5:31Speaker 3: a growing interest. If they were willing to trade ADLEI
- 5:35Speaker 3: that interest has kind of grown. I feel like you
- 5:37Speaker 3: wouldn't make that statement and change your kind of tune
- 5:40Speaker 3: or tone of how you're saying things unless there is
- 5:42Speaker 3: something on the table or something that is interesting to him.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And I think it's I think the Trek school.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I know he's on the Oriols, but I think that
- 5:50Speaker 3: trade is going to shake up what teams we're thinking
- 5:53Speaker 3: about doing. I think if you're on the fringe now,
- 5:55Speaker 3: you look at the Dodgers getting incremently better by getting
- 5:58Speaker 3: the best picture player on the market, they now get
- 6:02Speaker 3: better with him being on that team. Now, if you're
- 6:05Speaker 3: on the edge there, you're thinking, Okay, we can make
- 6:07Speaker 3: the playoffs, but how do we stack up against this,
- 6:10Speaker 3: I mean, powerhouse. There's no other way to look at it.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So I just feel like that that is going to
- 6:15Speaker 3: send shockwaves and I wouldn't be surprised some teams that
- 6:18Speaker 3: maybe were thinking about buying they end up just staying
- 6:21Speaker 3: staying put. And I don't know it's going to be
- 6:24Speaker 3: an interesting twenty four or forty eight hours here, because
- 6:27Speaker 3: like we've said that oriers have some pieces they can
- 6:29Speaker 3: move that teams have to be interested in. And on
- 6:31Speaker 3: the other side of teams not being buyers, anymore.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I think when you look.
- 6:34Speaker 3: At the Derek Scougole trade, you need teams that need
- 6:37Speaker 3: to get incremently better. The Brewers they have to be
- 6:39Speaker 3: looking at somebody like Rogers to get or the Taylor Award.
- 6:45Speaker 3: There's plenty of teams that need a right handed hitting outfielder.
- 6:48Speaker 3: They need to chase the Dodgers. So maybe the teams
- 6:50Speaker 3: that we're thinking about not making a deal now they
- 6:52Speaker 3: feel like they have to. So, but you're everybody's guests
- 6:55Speaker 3: is as good as mine at this point, because it
- 6:57Speaker 3: Mike really he gave some but at the same time,
- 7:01Speaker 3: I feel like he made it just as foggy as
- 7:02Speaker 3: it was before.
- 7:03Speaker 2: He had the press conference.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Before Elias is doug out press conference. I was there
- 7:08Speaker 1: for that. I had a chance to interview Pete Alonzo
- 7:11Speaker 1: as just me and him one on one, and I
- 7:13Speaker 1: asked him, does the front office need to make a
- 7:16Speaker 1: move to show support for the clubhouse?
- 7:18Speaker 5: And he said no, He said they are.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Support has been unwavering for us all year, and he
- 7:24Speaker 1: cited the extensions of Boz and Bradish as moves they've
- 7:28Speaker 1: made to support the team and its future. So maybe
- 7:32Speaker 1: that was a politically correct answer. To my guy, they
- 7:34Speaker 1: gave one hundred fifty five million two, But that was
- 7:36Speaker 1: what he said. He also said to me it's not
- 7:38Speaker 1: been a big topic in the clubhouse the deadline, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: he said, keep in mind, ninety nine percent of things
- 7:44Speaker 1: that are discussed never happened. Now, maybe it's not that
- 7:48Speaker 1: high a percentage, but it is a high percentage. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: every deadline guy's we talk about Adlie or Ward or
- 7:55Speaker 1: Rogers or all these names we talked about, and then
- 7:57Speaker 1: there's two or three we never talked about, yeah, that
- 8:00Speaker 1: are involved in a deal. And finally, my last point
- 8:03Speaker 1: deadline day last year, this is who the Orioles traded.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Ramona Reus, Ryan O'Hearn, Ramon Loreano, Andrew Kittridge, Charlie Morton,
- 8:15Speaker 1: Cedric Mullins. They did all that on the final day
- 8:18Speaker 1: and they traded cash for dietrich Ens.
- 8:22Speaker 5: It was busy, thirty.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Five trades on the final day last year, and I
- 8:27Speaker 1: think some people think we're headed for something similar.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it looks like to me, and it's
- 8:32Speaker 3: it's I'll definitely agree with what Pete said in the clubhouse.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Guys are probably looking at stuff on their own, but
- 8:37Speaker 3: it's not an open discussion. You don't ever really want
- 8:40Speaker 3: to go there when you're in the clubhouse. So I
- 8:42Speaker 3: can definitely see where he's coming from with that, because
- 8:44Speaker 3: you got to move with the guys you got. You're
- 8:46Speaker 3: not gonna you're not expecting to get some you know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: hero walking through the door that's gonna win you fifteen
- 8:51Speaker 3: extra games here within the last two months ago. So
- 8:53Speaker 3: I think it's definitely one of those things where they're
- 8:55Speaker 3: looking at themselves more than anything else, and if it's
- 8:58Speaker 3: gonna get turned around, they are the guys that are
- 9:00Speaker 3: going to do it. So it's it's a it's an
- 9:02Speaker 3: interesting dynamic because it's it's talked about everywhere, but in
- 9:05Speaker 3: the clubhouse it's kind of like a taboo to kind
- 9:09Speaker 3: of talk about it openly with guys. You might have
- 9:11Speaker 3: a you know, a good friend on the team that
- 9:12Speaker 3: you're kind of talking about it with, but outside of that,
- 9:14Speaker 3: there's really no talks. It's just going out there every
- 9:16Speaker 3: day and doing your business. And I know at times
- 9:18Speaker 3: it can be a little maybe annoyed to hear that
- 9:21Speaker 3: from the fan perspective because it's like, these guys have
- 9:24Speaker 3: to be talking about it.
- 9:24Speaker 2: But at the end of the day. There's really nothing
- 9:26Speaker 2: they can do about it.
- 9:27Speaker 3: You just got to go out there and try to
- 9:28Speaker 3: win every game and prepare yourself and be ready to
- 9:30Speaker 3: go that night.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Yeah, if you're if you're the player, you got to
- 9:34Speaker 4: control what you can control. You don't have, you know,
- 9:37Speaker 4: any unless you're a ten to five guy where you
- 9:39Speaker 4: can decline a trade that you don't have the power
- 9:41Speaker 4: to decide where you're going or if you're traded or
- 9:44Speaker 4: any of this. You know, Trevor Rodgers is the perfect example,
- 9:48Speaker 4: and he's the guy to me that's most up in
- 9:50Speaker 4: the air, and he's been very open about it. But
- 9:53Speaker 4: he's just got to go out there every fifth day
- 9:55Speaker 4: and put his best foot forward and see where the
- 9:58Speaker 4: chips lay. But I'd have to think it still will
- 10:02Speaker 4: be a weight off this clubhouse, this team when the
- 10:06Speaker 4: deadline does pass and they don't have a game tomorrow.
- 10:09Speaker 4: So next time we see him in action Tuesday against
- 10:12Speaker 4: the Angels. You know, there's finality to all of this.
- 10:17Speaker 1: The fact that the Oriols are not definitive buyers or sellers,
- 10:20Speaker 1: as Elia said Friday, I think in a way maybe
- 10:24Speaker 1: that's changed the dynamic. I don't know, I've been covered
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Oils many years and I've been in there around
- 10:28Speaker 1: this time of year.
- 10:29Speaker 5: When you could feel the tension.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Yeah, like wow, I can just feel, you know, And
- 10:35Speaker 1: I don't feel that with this team. And maybe it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: the uncertainty of it all. Who knows what's going to happen.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So many guys say they want to be here, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: obviously it's out of their hands. And as Brad said,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you know you're discussing something you have zero control over,
- 10:50Speaker 1: so it's really you're discussing.
- 10:51Speaker 5: It won't change a thing.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Let's talk more about Adlei Ritchman and the potential for
- 10:58Speaker 1: the Oriols there at least less thing. That's what people
- 11:01Speaker 1: closer than us are saying. And will that lead to action.
- 11:05Speaker 1: We'll discuss that in a moment.
- 11:06Speaker 6: There is one place to be on Trade deadline day
- 11:10Speaker 6: watching Foul Territory, of course. Aj Perdinski, Aeric Kratz, and
- 11:13Speaker 6: Scott Brawn will be live all afternoon speaking with insiders,
- 11:17Speaker 6: reading tea leaves and reacting to unfolding deadline drama. Join
- 11:21Speaker 6: us on the FT YouTube channel at one pm ET
- 11:24Speaker 6: and stay locked in through the six pm deadline Next Monday,
- 11:28Speaker 6: Foul Territory Network. It's baseball the way it should be covered.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So check out the home office Foul Territory of their
- 11:37Speaker 1: national show. They'll have a lot of coverage coming your
- 11:39Speaker 1: way on Monday. We are very likely to have another
- 11:43Speaker 1: episode of this show Monday night, sometime after the deadline,
- 11:47Speaker 1: So don't go too far away from a Bergland Territory either.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And if some bombshells drop between now and then, there
- 11:54Speaker 1: may be some some special coverage.
- 11:56Speaker 5: We'll sort it out.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We're playing it by ear because no one knows when, where,
- 12:00Speaker 1: how and who. We're all waiting to find out. The
- 12:03Speaker 1: one trade they made, of course, was Friday Night Dan
- 12:06Speaker 1: Kramer to the Twins. They got eighteen year old outfielder
- 12:09Speaker 1: Jimnardo Reyes from Minnesota the Oriols. I think they're going
- 12:14Speaker 1: to send him to del Marva, but he hasn't played
- 12:15Speaker 1: as of Sunday yet for the Orioles organization. And we'll
- 12:19Speaker 1: tell you more about him in a minute. But let's
- 12:22Speaker 1: get back to Adleie Rutchman and the trade rumors here. Obviously, guys,
- 12:27Speaker 1: they have two top caliber catchers, so if they trade one,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you still have one that might be part of this thinking.
- 12:32Speaker 5: They locked.
- 12:33Speaker 1: You know, it was August last year when they locked
- 12:35Speaker 1: up Besio. But then again, if something happens with the
- 12:40Speaker 1: SiO an injury of Slump, now you're down to zero.
- 12:44Speaker 5: All star caliber catchers.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So a lot to consider here, and it just may
- 12:50Speaker 1: come down to if someone bowls them over, they just
- 12:53Speaker 1: might have.
- 12:53Speaker 5: To do it.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that's I mean, we've kind of
- 12:56Speaker 3: discussed that here the last couple of weeks, but I
- 12:58Speaker 3: just think of the last week and I think in
- 13:01Speaker 3: my mind it's become more clear that if there is
- 13:03Speaker 3: an offer out there that you have to do, you
- 13:06Speaker 3: got to take it, and you gotta do it, and
- 13:07Speaker 3: you got to try to maybe change some things up
- 13:10Speaker 3: and kind of work towards twenty twenty seven with the
- 13:13Speaker 3: group of guys that you have have some good momentum.
- 13:15Speaker 3: If you make the playoffs, great, but you have some
- 13:17Speaker 3: good momentum moving into the next season. To me, it
- 13:21Speaker 3: just it makes sense at this point. And I'm more
- 13:24Speaker 3: curious when they when they got Jake Rogers. I just
- 13:26Speaker 3: hope that there's no injury concern with Sammy or Ali
- 13:30Speaker 3: that there's they haven't said anything, because it just kind
- 13:33Speaker 3: of I know they needed to get somebody that was
- 13:35Speaker 3: more established at the big league level to help out
- 13:38Speaker 3: the catching side, but to go and trade for somebody
- 13:40Speaker 3: like that right before it was a little interesting to me.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I know, I'm completely speculating right now, but I hope
- 13:46Speaker 3: there's not more there that they might think there might
- 13:49Speaker 3: be with either of those guys, because he's a pretty
- 13:51Speaker 3: established player. He's been in the big leagues now, I
- 13:53Speaker 3: think four or five seasons, and I think you just
- 13:55Speaker 3: kind of ran out of playing time in Detroit. But
- 13:57Speaker 3: I thought that was an interesting move too, because you're
- 13:59Speaker 3: kind of solidifying a little bit on the catching side
- 14:02Speaker 3: of things. And I don't know when Samuel or Adley's
- 14:04Speaker 3: gonna come back, because they really haven't said too much
- 14:06Speaker 3: about it.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Well, you know, he did touch on it Friday.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah he did, and he actually was asked
- 14:12Speaker 1: that question, is this acquisition and indication there are things worse?
- 14:17Speaker 1: And he said no, he said, we just saw him
- 14:19Speaker 1: as an upgrade. Did tell the media that Basiah was
- 14:23Speaker 1: expected to start to do some throwing and some hitting
- 14:28Speaker 1: and Adleie could be in rehab games this week and
- 14:30Speaker 1: both were not in bad shape or at least you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: their return is an imminet, but it's not a bigger deal.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So that was good news that came out of Friday.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Hopefully we see one or both pretty soon. Adleie, if
- 14:44Speaker 1: he's still around, could be in rehab games coming up.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Tim that would be a bombshell even to me, even
- 14:51Speaker 1: with these rumors of lists, they're listening, they're talking all
- 14:55Speaker 1: these teams need to catch her, so many ALACE teams
- 14:58Speaker 1: need to catch her.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Man.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You trade Adli Rutchman within the division, that would be
- 15:03Speaker 1: very interesting.
- 15:04Speaker 4: It would be tough and gosh, I don't know anything.
- 15:10Speaker 4: This is just me reading everything that's out there. I
- 15:14Speaker 4: think one of these guys is gonna get dealt one
- 15:17Speaker 4: of the bigger names, whether it's Adley, whether it's Jackson
- 15:20Speaker 4: Holliday who his name's being brought up, which that would
- 15:23Speaker 4: totally stun me.
- 15:24Speaker 2: For Colden Cowser. It seems like one of these.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Guys from the young core it is going to get
- 15:32Speaker 4: dealt and Adley right now, there's a lot of smoke
- 15:35Speaker 4: there and Steve, I just think it would be a
- 15:37Speaker 4: bit of a gut punch for the fan base and
- 15:40Speaker 4: every because this guy was the face of the rebuild,
- 15:44Speaker 4: you know, he was Michael Isias's first draft pick. You know,
- 15:47Speaker 4: when he got brought up, that's when the Orioles started
- 15:50Speaker 4: winning again. You know, in May twenty twenty two, they
- 15:53Speaker 4: were under five hundred at that point. They ended up
- 15:55Speaker 4: finishing the season above five hundred and twenty twenty two,
- 15:58Speaker 4: winning one hundred games. They went as Adley Rutchman win.
- 16:02Speaker 4: But I still think if I'm taking what Jeff Passen
- 16:07Speaker 4: was reporting is one hundred percent true. You know in
- 16:11Speaker 4: his recent Top one hundred saying that there was virtually
- 16:14Speaker 4: no chance that the Orioles and Adley Rutchman are going
- 16:17Speaker 4: to agree to a contract extension. You got to trade him,
- 16:20Speaker 4: you know, whether it's now or prior to opening day
- 16:24Speaker 4: next year. Obviously you would get more value from him
- 16:27Speaker 4: now because you would get two potential playoff runs for
- 16:30Speaker 4: the team that's acquiring him.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot to consider.
- 16:35Speaker 1: A scout told me over the weekend that these teams,
- 16:38Speaker 1: oftentimes it's math. They put grades on these players, future grades.
- 16:43Speaker 1: They project these players out two, three, five, sometimes seven
- 16:47Speaker 1: and eight years what their war might be in twenty
- 16:50Speaker 1: thirty two, and they try to look at these matchups
- 16:54Speaker 1: and match it up and see should we do this
- 16:56Speaker 1: or not.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Now. Obviously that's not exact.
- 16:58Speaker 1: When you're trying to predict what a player will do
- 16:59Speaker 1: four four years from now, you just don't know. But
- 17:02Speaker 1: they try to do it, and that's how they add
- 17:06Speaker 1: some of this up. And so maybe here's my thought.
- 17:09Speaker 1: If the Orioles think Adlee Rutchman improved this year, is
- 17:14Speaker 1: still not all the way to the guy we saw
- 17:17Speaker 1: two or three years ago, and remember he had two
- 17:19Speaker 1: bad years coming into twenty twenty six, maybe they feel
- 17:23Speaker 1: like they're trading him on a high, third time, third
- 17:26Speaker 1: time All Star. And again that's if this happens. So
- 17:30Speaker 1: I don't think it's going on. I would still stun
- 17:33Speaker 1: me to see that come across Twitter or the wire here.
- 17:39Speaker 5: That's just my feeling.
- 17:40Speaker 1: But maybe Tim they're looking at recent years thinking it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: not Maybe he's not exactly what they thought.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Well between that ste even it's unfortunate and look, and
- 17:52Speaker 4: not all of this is Adley's fault, but five il
- 17:55Speaker 4: stints since the beginning of last year, and yes, one
- 17:59Speaker 4: of them being and he got hit in the head
- 18:01Speaker 4: running the first base. That's not that's just bad luck.
- 18:04Speaker 4: But I think the injury factors have to come into play.
- 18:08Speaker 4: And also, guys, I don't have the numbers in front
- 18:10Speaker 4: of me. I know I gave him in a prior
- 18:13Speaker 4: show the amount of off days. I think he's only
- 18:15Speaker 4: caught three consecutive days twice, two separate occasions this season.
- 18:21Speaker 4: And look, it's worked. And they came into the season
- 18:24Speaker 4: with a plan to kind of baby him a bit
- 18:27Speaker 4: and keep him healthy throughout the season or try to,
- 18:30Speaker 4: and he still had three il stints and I think
- 18:33Speaker 4: that has to factor into the calculus.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Brad, Yeah, I think so for sure.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I think it's just kind of like Steve said, they
- 18:39Speaker 3: have a bunch of models that they can run. And
- 18:41Speaker 3: I think if it just comes down to the fact
- 18:43Speaker 3: that where you think you can win a trade by
- 18:45Speaker 3: trading him, it's just it's just kind of the math
- 18:47Speaker 3: of it all, and that's kind of where baseball's at.
- 18:49Speaker 3: And unfortunately for you know, Baltimore, it's not unfortunate, but
- 18:53Speaker 3: it's just they're not one of the top markets, and
- 18:55Speaker 3: sometimes you lose these guys and you just can't afford
- 18:57Speaker 3: to lose a player of his caliber for kind of
- 19:01Speaker 3: sense on the dollar when it's when it's all said
- 19:03Speaker 3: and done, When sometimes when you got to move on.
- 19:05Speaker 2: It's a tough.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Decision to make, but if it makes sense for the
- 19:07Speaker 3: organization moving forward, you just got to pull the trigger sometimes.
- 19:11Speaker 3: And it's it's upsetting, it's it's frustrating, it's it can
- 19:14Speaker 3: be all the stuff mixed in. But at the end
- 19:16Speaker 3: of the day, when you're trying to have longevity and
- 19:18Speaker 3: having a long time winner, you just got to unfortunately
- 19:21Speaker 3: make these moves sometimes. And that's that would be the
- 19:24Speaker 3: reason why I think they would do it more than
- 19:25Speaker 3: anything else in the next couple of days.
- 19:29Speaker 1: With Adlie Rochman. Keep in mind we're talking about the
- 19:33Speaker 1: first Elias draft pick, a one to one pick. The
- 19:36Speaker 1: Oils have had three of those in team history. The
- 19:39Speaker 1: face of the rebuild, three time All Star, the guy
- 19:43Speaker 1: they keep saying how badly they want and how much
- 19:46Speaker 1: he means to the team, and yet they're open minded
- 19:49Speaker 1: they say that too. So this is really an interesting
- 19:53Speaker 1: time in Birdland. It's quite a quite a drop in
- 19:56Speaker 1: the in the topics to go to this eighteen year
- 19:59Speaker 1: old autfield. But I want to mention one thing on
- 20:01Speaker 1: him real quick. The Ools did get Gymnardo Reyes, eighteen
- 20:06Speaker 1: year old a ball outfielder from the Twins for Dean Kramer.
- 20:10Speaker 1: He was ranked twelve by Baseball America on the Twins Prospects,
- 20:14Speaker 1: twenty fourth by Pipeline, and he settled in at number
- 20:17Speaker 1: twenty on the Oriel prospect list. Really good offensive numbers
- 20:21Speaker 1: this year. He was one of the best players in
- 20:23Speaker 1: the Florida Complex League. And so he's just getting going.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I mean he's just getting to full season ball now
- 20:30Speaker 1: low A and he was off to a slow start
- 20:32Speaker 1: for Fort Myers. I think he's going to wind up
- 20:34Speaker 1: at Del Marva. And I talked to a scout who's
- 20:37Speaker 1: seen him several times this year, really likes him. He said,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the Oriols won this train. He's done a huge Dean
- 20:42Speaker 1: Kramer fan. Dean's had a rough year, probably going to
- 20:44Speaker 1: make seven million in arbitration. He thinks the Orioles did
- 20:48Speaker 1: well here without even knowing if this kid's ever going
- 20:51Speaker 1: to make it. A lot of bats feed, a lot
- 20:54Speaker 1: of pop exit velocities of one ten. He topped out
- 20:57Speaker 1: this year like one ten plus at age eighteen. I'll
- 21:00Speaker 1: see that often. So there's something to like about this
- 21:03Speaker 1: young kid. But it's interesting in a trade like that,
- 21:06Speaker 1: right two guys at very different levels of their careers.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Makes it hard, I think for the fan base to
- 21:11Speaker 1: kind of get their minds around a deal like that.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and especially when you take one of their five
- 21:17Speaker 3: starters out of the rotation. Now you're kind of hoping
- 21:19Speaker 3: Chris Bassett comes back healthy and does well, or you
- 21:23Speaker 3: have Terrady.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Gibson come back up or k Povich.
- 21:25Speaker 3: They have options, so there's other guys that might get
- 21:27Speaker 3: a shot, but it's definitely when you take one of
- 21:30Speaker 3: your five starters that has been here for a while,
- 21:32Speaker 3: and it's kind of like the last link, at least
- 21:36Speaker 3: the generation of guys I played with.
- 21:37Speaker 2: He's the last link.
- 21:38Speaker 3: You know, he was in Machidad trade and it's just
- 21:41Speaker 3: kind of after that, it's there's there's nobody left from
- 21:44Speaker 3: back from my era. So it's kind of one of those,
- 21:46Speaker 3: you know, bittersweet type of things that just happens in
- 21:49Speaker 3: the game and the game moves on and it's it's
- 21:51Speaker 3: but it's it's interesting getting rid of one of your
- 21:53Speaker 3: five starters, and the starters have been rolling here, so
- 21:56Speaker 3: be interesting to see how it plays out. But when
- 21:57Speaker 3: you get a talented young eighteen year old, like you said, Steve.
- 22:00Speaker 3: You never know where he's going to go in his
- 22:02Speaker 3: career projections, but definitely an interesting trade.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it was definitely a pretty surprise, you know, when
- 22:11Speaker 4: the news broken. Look Dean, and I know he had
- 22:15Speaker 4: a rough go of it in his last couple of outings,
- 22:18Speaker 4: but he was a rock solid pitcher for the Orioles
- 22:21Speaker 4: and I think that that should not go without being said.
- 22:25Speaker 4: You know, you knew what you were getting in him.
- 22:27Speaker 4: It was an era right around for every single year.
- 22:30Speaker 4: He had a ton of big time moments, big time
- 22:32Speaker 4: games for this club. But you understand the move and Dean,
- 22:38Speaker 4: he only has one more year of club control, two
- 22:41Speaker 4: so you're trying to kind of sell, you know, get
- 22:44Speaker 4: maximum value for him. And this is kind of a
- 22:47Speaker 4: bit of a lottery ticket for an eighteen year old kid.
- 22:50Speaker 4: But a lot of people are very high on this kid.
- 22:53Speaker 4: So yeahfully, you know it is able to bear fruit.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So Dean projected to pitch on Tuesday night for the
- 23:01Speaker 1: Orioles if he had stayed on the team. The team
- 23:04Speaker 1: has not announced how they're going to handle that yet.
- 23:07Speaker 1: There's several ways they could do it. They could also
- 23:10Speaker 1: go with a fore man with the off day Monday
- 23:14Speaker 1: and the one they just had a couple days ago
- 23:16Speaker 1: and not need a fifth starter until Saturday.
- 23:19Speaker 5: If they do that, that opens the door more.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I think because Bassett pitch today at Triple A, he's
- 23:24Speaker 1: up to sixty seven pitches, so I think they could
- 23:27Speaker 1: bring him now you know, he's got eighty pitches next start.
- 23:30Speaker 1: That could be enough for them to bring Bassett back
- 23:32Speaker 1: for that next weekend. Or they could bring Povich, or
- 23:35Speaker 1: they could bring Trey Gibson. I think that also factored
- 23:38Speaker 1: in this trade of Dean Kramer. He's not pitching well
- 23:41Speaker 1: for one and two. They got guys who can step
- 23:43Speaker 1: right in. They're not scrambling to fill that spot right now,
- 23:47Speaker 1: so we'll see how that plays out and what they
- 23:50Speaker 1: do there. Any final thoughts guys before we wrap up
- 23:53Speaker 1: the trade deadline Eve Show.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I just had I want to congrat give some congrats
- 23:58Speaker 3: to gain your canoe sign in the two year extent
- 24:00Speaker 3: mentioned of seven point five million over the two years.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So awesome to see.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Obviously, I'm biased towards bullpen guys, I know that, but
- 24:07Speaker 3: it's great seeing the guy have a bounce back and
- 24:10Speaker 3: get to know where he's going to be for a
- 24:11Speaker 3: couple years. Anytime you can get stability in the game
- 24:14Speaker 3: of baseball, it's an amazing thing. And who knows, he
- 24:16Speaker 3: might be one of the best pitchers the next couple
- 24:18Speaker 3: of years, because when you know you're going to be
- 24:19Speaker 3: somewhere for an extended period of time, it puts a
- 24:22Speaker 3: little bit of ease on you. His name was being,
- 24:24Speaker 3: you know, kind of rumored around going somewhere else. So
- 24:26Speaker 3: he knows he's staying put. He gets some financial security,
- 24:29Speaker 3: and he's a great He's been a great comeback story.
- 24:32Speaker 3: He was an awesome story when he first came up,
- 24:35Speaker 3: went through some struggles, and now just his bounce back here,
- 24:37Speaker 3: I think it's been awesome. And to see them lock
- 24:39Speaker 3: more guys up over years, like we've been talking about,
- 24:41Speaker 3: is a great thing for this organization. So I just
- 24:43Speaker 3: want to give a quick shout out to him for that.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Definitely well well deserved. Well Before we run though, Brad,
- 24:49Speaker 4: how was the Chris Davis Hall of Fame induction ceremony?
- 24:53Speaker 4: Seeing everybody?
- 24:54Speaker 2: You know, Yeah, it was great. It was you know,
- 24:56Speaker 2: it was like a homecoming.
- 24:57Speaker 3: It was getting to see a bunch of guys that
- 24:59Speaker 3: we spent so many years with and our families all
- 25:01Speaker 3: know each other, our wives all know each other.
- 25:02Speaker 2: So it was just.
- 25:03Speaker 3: A really cool moment to get to see Chris getting
- 25:07Speaker 3: in the Hall of Fame. But then it was just
- 25:08Speaker 3: awesome to get everybody back together. We all talked all
- 25:11Speaker 3: weekend long, how we need to make it happen more,
- 25:13Speaker 3: and it's just great having friends in the game that,
- 25:15Speaker 3: even though you don't see each other a lot, when
- 25:17Speaker 3: you get back together, it's it's just like it's back
- 25:20Speaker 3: in old times, and you know, talking about the stories.
- 25:22Speaker 3: You know, we're all getting older now, so it's it's
- 25:24Speaker 3: fun talking about the stories. But we got to watch
- 25:26Speaker 3: a game up in cam Yards and the suits, which
- 25:28Speaker 3: I never got to do, and you just you you
- 25:30Speaker 3: forget how great of a ballpark that is, and it
- 25:33Speaker 3: just kind of made me think about how bad I
- 25:35Speaker 3: want a winner for the city of Baltimore. Just getting
- 25:37Speaker 3: to see the way it is on a day and
- 25:39Speaker 3: day out basis, and being down on the field again
- 25:41Speaker 3: after for the first time and however many years, it
- 25:44Speaker 3: was just it's awesome the electricity in that ballpark and
- 25:47Speaker 3: all of us just kind of soaking it all back
- 25:49Speaker 3: in to kind of celebrate Chris. It was a great time,
- 25:51Speaker 3: great weekend, and thanks thanks to the Ools for inviting
- 25:54Speaker 3: us all back, because that was my first Hall of
- 25:56Speaker 3: Fame I've ever been to for the Oriols and it
- 25:59Speaker 3: was a great experience and hopefully we get some more
- 26:01Speaker 3: guys in there. He goes years goes along here.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Highlight of the weekend for me, man seeing you guys
- 26:06Speaker 1: in person. Was great to see Brad back at the ballpark,
- 26:09Speaker 1: getting to shake Tommy Hunters and Darren Chris Buck, on
- 26:14Speaker 1: and on it went.
- 26:15Speaker 5: That was fantastic.
- 26:16Speaker 1: The Oils do a great job with that, and as
- 26:18Speaker 1: a great Hall of Fame class, you're talking about a
- 26:20Speaker 1: feared slugger who was the Silver Slugger, a pitcher who
- 26:23Speaker 1: was on a World Series winner, and a scout who
- 26:26Speaker 1: made a lot of that happen to late Jim Russo
- 26:28Speaker 1: and his son gave a nice speech in his behalf
- 26:31Speaker 1: on Saturday Night.
- 26:32Speaker 5: And Brett Holland or good job Hollander, another.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Great job m seeing that thing for the Orioles and
- 26:37Speaker 1: the ORIL advocates just put on a great show. The
- 26:40Speaker 1: Hall of Fame was fantastic and people keep asking about
- 26:43Speaker 1: Buck his day is coming. I guess he mustn't be
- 26:46Speaker 1: eligible yet, but he'll be an easy one to get
- 26:49Speaker 1: in there when his day is up, will be honoring
- 26:53Speaker 1: Buck and they might blow the doors off that place
- 26:55Speaker 1: that night, and you guys can all come back for
- 26:57Speaker 1: that too.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Brett, Yeah, that'd be great. Got he sto biggest cheers ever.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Even if fourteen went to the playoffs, he got the
- 27:03Speaker 3: biggest cheer. So it was great seeing him and he
- 27:06Speaker 3: earned it. So it's great to hear him still get
- 27:08Speaker 3: those flat cheers.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I told him how much I miss him on MLB
- 27:12Speaker 1: network is great coverage, man. I want to see him
- 27:15Speaker 1: do more of that, but right now he's doing some
- 27:17Speaker 1: other things. All right, guys, let's see what happens here.
