Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more disgrace Land in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:32Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:34Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:35Speaker 1: episode of disgrace Land to the other, the backyard to
- 0:38Speaker 1: dig into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are
- 0:42Speaker 1: talking about van Halen Part two. We are previewing our
- 0:46Speaker 1: coming part two episode on Prince. We're talking rat Fink
- 0:49Speaker 1: blues in the Hollywood Land a minute, and we get
- 0:52Speaker 1: into your voicemails, text DMS emails and as always, a
- 0:55Speaker 1: whole lot of Rosie. All right, disc goes, let's get
- 0:58Speaker 1: into it all right. So back on March twenty six,
- 1:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, we released our first episode on van Halen.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Eddie had been dead for a while at that point.
- 1:21Speaker 1: He passed back in October twenty twenty. There is, of course,
- 1:25Speaker 1: no continuation of Van Halen. There were rumors that somehow
- 1:30Speaker 1: the band was going to continue with Eddie's son Wolfgang
- 1:33Speaker 1: and Dave was going to be back in the front
- 1:35Speaker 1: man's slot, or that Sammy was coming back, or that
- 1:39Speaker 1: Nuno Bettancor from Extreme was stepping into replace Eddie, and
- 1:42Speaker 1: that that meant that Gary was going to join don't.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I don't know. Here's what I do know. There's no
- 1:48Speaker 1: replacing Eddie van Haleen. There was no one like him
- 1:51Speaker 1: before we took the stage, and there will never be
- 1:53Speaker 1: another like him now that he's gone. So we released
- 1:56Speaker 1: our two part episode on van Halen this week on
- 1:59Speaker 1: Tuesday Day. But this past weekend something remarkable happened. Eddie
- 2:05Speaker 1: van Halen's former foil and band may and sometime enemy,
- 2:09Speaker 1: David Lee Roth took the stage, not with Van Halen,
- 2:13Speaker 1: and not to perform hits from his solo career, but
- 2:16Speaker 1: with an entirely different group of musicians to perform a
- 2:19Speaker 1: set of only van Halen songs bangers, and in typical
- 2:24Speaker 1: davidly Roth fashion, it rocked surprisingly, I guess. I mean,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I said it's typical, but I shouldn't have said that,
- 2:30Speaker 1: because there's been some really uneven davidly Ross stuff over
- 2:33Speaker 1: the past few years now the band that he was
- 2:36Speaker 1: fronting it of course, didn't have the van Halen magic,
- 2:40Speaker 1: but the songs that were performed in the Cradle Will Rock,
- 2:43Speaker 1: Jamie's Crying, Running with the Devil, Atomic Punk, drop dead legs,
- 2:47Speaker 1: Ain't talking about Love, Hot for Teacher, and of course Jump.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They were so great. I mean I watched a bunch
- 2:55Speaker 1: of this. It was awesome. Okay, these songs are incredible songs.
- 2:59Speaker 1: They can survive without the magic, I think, is what
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm saying. The magic is of course gone with no Eddie,
- 3:04Speaker 1: with no van Halen, and it's been gone since the
- 3:07Speaker 1: mid eighties. Those van Halen reunions were abominations. And yet again,
- 3:13Speaker 1: this was not van Halen, but it was a group
- 3:16Speaker 1: of more than competent musicians giving Davidlee Roth just enough
- 3:19Speaker 1: of what he needed to go out there and entertain
- 3:21Speaker 1: the hell out of a pavilion full of people in
- 3:23Speaker 1: Maryland or Delaware or wherever the hell they were. And
- 3:26Speaker 1: after seeing Dave do this on these videos over the
- 3:29Speaker 1: internet all weekend, I got admit I kind of wished
- 3:32Speaker 1: that I was one of those people in the crowd.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Unlike the van Halen reunion shows that I've seen. In
- 3:38Speaker 1: these videos, davidly Roth looks stoked, he looks happy to
- 3:41Speaker 1: be there. He doesn't look like he's putting it on.
- 3:44Speaker 1: He doesn't look like he's faking it, you know. And
- 3:47Speaker 1: of course he's super old. That doesn't matter. His natural
- 3:51Speaker 1: and abundant charisma. It's contagious. And yeah, it's super schlocky
- 3:56Speaker 1: and probably has more to do with Las Vegas than
- 3:58Speaker 1: it does with Van Halen, but that doesn't mean it
- 4:01Speaker 1: isn't entertaining. And oh, by the way, davidly Roth always
- 4:04Speaker 1: seemed like a dude who's going to end up in
- 4:05Speaker 1: Las Vegas anyway. He always had that old school rat
- 4:10Speaker 1: pack entertainer vibe. It was it was hard to see
- 4:14Speaker 1: underneath all that hair and if you know got obscured,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I guess by the pecks and the splits. But davidly
- 4:20Speaker 1: Roth can put on a classic show and that was
- 4:22Speaker 1: fully on display the other night. And I hope that
- 4:25Speaker 1: he keeps on doing it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'm using this opportunity this week because of our Van
- 4:28Speaker 1: Halen Part two episode to just say that I hope
- 4:30Speaker 1: that this continues. And I have no illusions that it's
- 4:32Speaker 1: going to be Van Halen or it's gonna be as
- 4:34Speaker 1: good as Van Hanler. It's gonna be as magical as
- 4:35Speaker 1: van Halen. It's not gonna be any of those things.
- 4:37Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean it can't be fucking cool. That
- 4:39Speaker 1: doesn't mean it can't be fun. And I honestly hope
- 4:43Speaker 1: that I'm more interested in this happening David Lee Roth
- 4:46Speaker 1: playing Van Halen songs without van Halen than I am
- 4:49Speaker 1: with davidly Roth reuniting with Alex van Halen and Michael
- 4:53Speaker 1: Anthony and without Eddie, because of course, if you'll excuse me,
- 4:57Speaker 1: that would be a disgrace. It just would not be
- 4:59Speaker 1: cool no matter who they get to replace it. Again,
- 5:02Speaker 1: you can't replace Eddy Vanillin. Okay, Just Dave, go out there,
- 5:05Speaker 1: be our authentic schlocky self, entertain the hell out of
- 5:09Speaker 1: us with those incredible songs, because all feel like we're
- 5:11Speaker 1: in an eighties teen movie, ripping the strip in a convertible,
- 5:13Speaker 1: got a heater in the ash tray, a road soda
- 5:15Speaker 1: between our legs, a babe riding shotgun or something like that.
- 5:19Speaker 1: You know I can get with that. You know, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: was gonna talk about Sammy Hagar in this episode because
- 5:24Speaker 1: that's what our full episode deals with this week. Who
- 5:27Speaker 1: deals with the Sammy era I guess you could call
- 5:30Speaker 1: it more than it does the Dave era, and I
- 5:32Speaker 1: was going to talk about my newfound appreciation for Sammy
- 5:36Speaker 1: Sammy Hagar, my late onset Sammy Hagar appreciation speaking old dudes.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I saw Sammy Hagar on a video this morning with
- 5:44Speaker 1: Alice Cooper ripping it up over the weekend, and it
- 5:47Speaker 1: did not suck. It's hysterical and in some weird way,
- 5:51Speaker 1: Sammy Hagar has got me interested in Jimmy Buffett. I know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I know, hold your fire. I think I'm gonna do
- 5:57Speaker 1: a Jimmy Buffet episode at some point, But anyhow, I
- 6:00Speaker 1: get distracted by this David Lee Roth news. Okay, in
- 6:03Speaker 1: this two part episode on Van hal On Part two,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I should say it's been well received so far. I
- 6:07Speaker 1: got a lot of great comments on the on the
- 6:09Speaker 1: Spotify app, get a lot of great DMS emails. Thank
- 6:12Speaker 1: you guys who have checked it out. For those of
- 6:14Speaker 1: you have not already, go ahead, It's there for you.
- 6:16Speaker 1: It's waiting for you. In our rewind episode that's coming
- 6:19Speaker 1: up right after this, we have our episode on another legend,
- 6:22Speaker 1: a hip hop legend, Slick Rick. What's Rick doing these days?
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe maybe we get Rick to head
- 6:28Speaker 1: out to Vegas with davidly Roth put together a little
- 6:32Speaker 1: legend show for us. I go see a show with
- 6:34Speaker 1: Slick Rick and David Lee Roth. All right, next week
- 6:36Speaker 1: next week? What we got next week? Next week we
- 6:38Speaker 1: have another two partner, another two part episode or a
- 6:40Speaker 1: part two episode coming that is new. It's the follow
- 6:43Speaker 1: up to our part one episode on Prince. All right.
- 6:46Speaker 1: There was way too much Prince to cover in one episode,
- 6:49Speaker 1: so we get the whole story for you here coming
- 6:52Speaker 1: next week, and when you're listening to Prince. Okay, I
- 6:55Speaker 1: think last time we talked about Prince, we got into
- 6:57Speaker 1: this conversation about who the greatest is dumb fucking question,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but it's a good one. Just the greatest musician of
- 7:02Speaker 1: all time? I think that's what we were talking about,
- 7:05Speaker 1: or greatest pop star of all time or musician technically
- 7:09Speaker 1: gifted pop stars. So I forget how we qualified it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Prince obviously came up. Stevie Wonder came up. We've talked
- 7:16Speaker 1: about before you speaking to Van Halen, We've talked about,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you know, is Prince one of the greatest guitar players
- 7:21Speaker 1: of all time? We're going to get into that later here,
- 7:24Speaker 1: that greatest guitar player conversation. We'll get into that later
- 7:26Speaker 1: in the episode with your dms and your text and
- 7:28Speaker 1: your voicemails. But this time for this part two Prince episode,
- 7:33Speaker 1: when you're listening to it, I want you guys be
- 7:34Speaker 1: thinking about which artists best nailed their moment? Okay, was
- 7:42Speaker 1: it Prince with Sign of the Times? All right? You
- 7:45Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about? Here? Was it Stevie Wonder
- 7:47Speaker 1: with Living for the City, Marvin Gay with What's going on?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Public Enemy with bring the Noise or Fight the Power? Hell?
- 7:53Speaker 1: Everything Public Enemy did? About? How about Nirvana? I mean
- 7:56Speaker 1: Nirvana Kurk Cobe nailed the time the strokes into this conversation.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So many artists hold a mirror up to the era
- 8:05Speaker 1: that they're creating in. And I want to know from
- 8:08Speaker 1: you guys, who did it best? Give me a call
- 8:10Speaker 1: it six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Which artists best represented their times? Send me a text,
- 8:16Speaker 1: send me a voicemail six one seven nine oh six
- 8:17Speaker 1: six six three eight. You may hear your answer next
- 8:20Speaker 1: week's after party. All right, I'm gonna take a quick break.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'll be hanging on the telephone with you, guys, your voicemails,
- 8:24Speaker 1: text and DMS right after this. All right, Apple Podcast listeners,
- 8:47Speaker 1: we are back. Make sure that you have your auto
- 8:49Speaker 1: downloads turned on so you don't miss any episodes of
- 8:52Speaker 1: Disgrace Lam guys. I gotta I gotta be real with
- 8:56Speaker 1: you here. I'm back at the desk talking to you, guys.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I've been pumped about this. I record these on Wednesdays.
- 9:02Speaker 1: They come out on Thursdays. I've been pumped about this
- 9:04Speaker 1: for the last few days because even though we had
- 9:06Speaker 1: after parties last week and the week before, I had
- 9:10Speaker 1: to record those episodes way early because last week I
- 9:14Speaker 1: was traveling. In the week before that, Matt, who produces
- 9:17Speaker 1: our stuff for us, he was away, he was off.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And when I record these things in advance, I just
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm connecting enough with you guys. I
- 9:24Speaker 1: don't know. There's something about the immediacy of recording them
- 9:29Speaker 1: on one day. They come out the next day. You
- 9:31Speaker 1: guys are up in it with me on the socials
- 9:34Speaker 1: on Patreon. We get this conversation, we're locked in. I'm
- 9:37Speaker 1: pumped for that to start anew this week because the
- 9:40Speaker 1: last few weeks have been crazy, and there's a lot
- 9:43Speaker 1: to talk about. But I'm trying to keep these episodes tight,
- 9:46Speaker 1: trying to keep them tight for you guys, trying to
- 9:48Speaker 1: keep them tight for me. But I gotta just mention
- 9:52Speaker 1: this Diddy trial. It kicked off, all right. I'm gonna
- 9:55Speaker 1: do this quick because there's really not much to talk about,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but I'm gonna give you little updates here. Here's my plan.
- 10:00Speaker 1: There will be another Diddy episode at some point. I'm
- 10:03Speaker 1: not doing that until the trial's done, until we know
- 10:06Speaker 1: what the hell actually happened. Okay, I'm not going to
- 10:09Speaker 1: chase this in real time. That's not what we do here.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Other people do it. You may have heard some of
- 10:14Speaker 1: these podcasts that I've been talking about in our feed.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm going to continue doing that and to continue bringing
- 10:18Speaker 1: you sort of news Diddy content that you guys might
- 10:22Speaker 1: be interested in. And I'll talk about things briefly here
- 10:24Speaker 1: as well. All that's gone on right now if you're
- 10:27Speaker 1: interested is they're selecting the jury. That's it. It's boring.
- 10:30Speaker 1: You're not missing much. There was some reference to some
- 10:34Speaker 1: celebrities while they're in jury selection, see if there was
- 10:38Speaker 1: any bias there. They talked about kid cutty. They talked
- 10:42Speaker 1: about Michael P. Jordan, Michael B. Jordan, I'll be sure not,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I'll be sure you know, you know, not the basketball
- 10:48Speaker 1: player Michael Jordan, the actor Michael Jordan. And strangely enough,
- 10:53Speaker 1: they asked if the jury was biased against Mike Myers,
- 10:58Speaker 1: not the Halloween guy of course course the Canadian actor
- 11:01Speaker 1: from SNL, which I don't understand what that's all about.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Probably nothing. That none of this means that any of
- 11:05Speaker 1: these guys are guilty in anyway, just means that their
- 11:07Speaker 1: names may come up in this trial. All right, we
- 11:10Speaker 1: get any news, I'll bring it to you guys right now.
- 11:13Speaker 1: There's no news, but no in the future there will
- 11:16Speaker 1: be an epic Sean Comb's Diddy episode of Disgraceland that
- 11:21Speaker 1: nails the rest of this story. All right, six one
- 11:25Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six sixty three eight. You know
- 11:26Speaker 1: where I'm at him in the phone booth that's one
- 11:27Speaker 1: across the hall. I'm hanging on the telephone. You want
- 11:30Speaker 1: to send me a voicemail or a text, that's how
- 11:31Speaker 1: you do at six one seven nine oh six six
- 11:33Speaker 1: six three eight. All Right, let's hear from the five
- 11:36Speaker 1: seven three coming at us with their answer on who
- 11:40Speaker 1: deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore of guitar players,
- 11:43Speaker 1: obviously in reference to her van halein episode this week,
- 11:46Speaker 1: Here we go from the five to seven three.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hey, what's going on to Graceline people and Jake and
- 11:49Speaker 2: the whole crew. Keep up the excellent work for your
- 11:52Speaker 2: Mount Rushmore. Let's go ahead with this top four. There
- 11:56Speaker 2: four or five presidents on national date. Okay, four, let's
- 12:00Speaker 2: go with Prince, Eddie van Halen, dine Bag, Daryl no Way,
- 12:04Speaker 2: do it again, Prince dine Bag, Darryl, Eddie van Halen,
- 12:08Speaker 2: and then Randy Rhodes. All right, love everybody, do it up?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Five seven three. I love this list. I love it
- 12:16Speaker 1: even though there's no Jimmy Hendrix. I feel like my
- 12:18Speaker 1: list is too obvious. It's Eddie, it's Jimmy, it's Stevie
- 12:23Speaker 1: Ray Vaughan, and it's probably Jimmy Page. But I love
- 12:27Speaker 1: the inclusion of Prince here. I love the inclusion of
- 12:29Speaker 1: Randy Rhodes. Randy Roads doesn't get enough sway, I don't think.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I don't think he does anyways. Five to seven three.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Thanks to you and thanks to whoever you had in
- 12:37Speaker 1: the background there, who you went to for your million
- 12:40Speaker 1: dollar question. What is that show? I don't know whatever.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Here we go, all right, let's hear from the seven
- 12:45Speaker 1: two to four.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, this is Clint. I'm currently in the seventeen
- 12:48Speaker 3: to four Western Pennsylvania. I gotta go with Eddie van Halen,
- 12:54Speaker 3: Jimmy Hendricks, Jimmy Page and Roy Cork. He's kind of
- 13:01Speaker 3: an alright edition. But if you go back to your
- 13:03Speaker 3: guitar players the Vinroom reference hand, the next kind of
- 13:06Speaker 3: a gun's here, good, pick a guitar. All right, that's
- 13:08Speaker 3: my list, brother, Thank you very much for what you do.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Have a good weekend.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Seven to four. Thanks for the call Roy Clark. I
- 13:16Speaker 1: got admit, man, I'm not up with my Roy Clark,
- 13:18Speaker 1: but now you have given me the impetus, the inciting
- 13:20Speaker 1: incident to send me on my quest, my hero's journey
- 13:25Speaker 1: to discover Roy Clark. Appreciate you, Thank you, seven two
- 13:28Speaker 1: four ste one more of these, This one from the
- 13:32Speaker 1: nine oh four.
- 13:34Speaker 4: What's up, Drake Barry? From the nine o four my
- 13:36Speaker 4: mount rushmore, Heady van Halen, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendricks and Drumwell. Please,
- 13:43Speaker 4: Angus young, let me explain, Angus it's the image and
- 13:48Speaker 4: the outfit and he just still at his advanced age,
- 13:52Speaker 4: he still brings it. And he was involved in the
- 13:55Speaker 4: greatest selling rock and roll or one of the greatest
- 13:59Speaker 4: selling albums of all time back in Black. So the
- 14:02Speaker 4: three pretty much down the middle. But I think my
- 14:06Speaker 4: Angus Young is a wild card. Not be a little
- 14:08Speaker 4: controversy behind that, but all of those things that Angus
- 14:12Speaker 4: stands for, and what other band usually it's the lead
- 14:15Speaker 4: singer is kind of the face of the band. Angus
- 14:18Speaker 4: Young is the face of ACDC and so for that
- 14:21Speaker 4: I include him on my mount Rushmore.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Yeoh nine oh four love this one. Angus Young was
- 14:26Speaker 1: my favorite guitar player growing up. He was my guy.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I rode hard for him. I got many of many,
- 14:31Speaker 1: many of fights, fisticuffs even in the park with my
- 14:34Speaker 1: friends arguing over the greatest guitar player. HUGO. If you're
- 14:38Speaker 1: out there, I know you know what I'm talking about.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And yes, I still think Angus Young is better than
- 14:41Speaker 1: Jimmy Page. But you know, Angus gets you. You may
- 14:46Speaker 1: kind of get to this a little bit. Angus gets
- 14:48Speaker 1: I don't want to say I'm aligned, but left off
- 14:50Speaker 1: these lists because he was such a simple guitar player,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and I think that was part of his magic. The
- 14:54Speaker 1: one thing, however, that I did not really embrace or
- 14:58Speaker 1: think about when I was a kid and just loving
- 15:00Speaker 1: ac DC, even the Bond Scott era stuff, when I
- 15:03Speaker 1: got into that was just how important. Of course Angus's brother,
- 15:07Speaker 1: Malcolm was not only to the band, but to Angus's
- 15:10Speaker 1: guitar playing. I mean, Malcolm did things that allowed Angus
- 15:15Speaker 1: to do what he did. And that's a very over
- 15:18Speaker 1: simplified version of what was going on there, but it's
- 15:21Speaker 1: almost I guess what I'm getting at is like, if
- 15:23Speaker 1: you're gonna put Angus up there, you need to put
- 15:25Speaker 1: Malcolm looking over his shoulder, perhaps six one seven nine
- 15:29Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight voicemail and texts three
- 15:32Speaker 1: oh four rights and listening to part two of Van
- 15:34Speaker 1: Halen I love you get excited about a band. I'm
- 15:36Speaker 1: sure you're interested in all of them, but when you
- 15:38Speaker 1: really are into a band, it comes through. Part one
- 15:41Speaker 1: was like a prayer to your God. Nice work. Well,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I don't think Eddie van Hallen
- 15:48Speaker 1: was a god. I love Eddie van Halen, I truly do,
- 15:52Speaker 1: loved him a guitar god perhaps six one two, right, saying, hey, Jake,
- 15:57Speaker 1: great episode of van Halen Part two. Eddie is the
- 15:59Speaker 1: king am I opinion? Although I have to disagree with
- 16:01Speaker 1: Hagar being more successful and bigger than Roth van Halen.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Four number one albums are great, but Roth van Halen
- 16:07Speaker 1: so fifty seven million. Hagar van Halen with twenty seven million.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Roth van Halen had more competition with Michael Jackson's Thriller
- 16:15Speaker 1: and def Leppard's Pyromania. I like van Hagar, but I
- 16:18Speaker 1: love Van Halen. Thanks Nathan in Minneapolis. Great point, Nathan,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I never consider the competition when I'm considering album sales.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Appreciate that Tony with an eye right, saying hey Jake,
- 16:32Speaker 1: regarding your what are you into, etc? Ask Well, I'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: fifty three, I'm a female. I'm married since one nine
- 16:39Speaker 1: ninety nine. Decided on that date after we saw Prince Live.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I turned my husband onto your show. He's a big fan.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna we this, okay, just because we are both
- 16:48Speaker 1: very into a wide variety of music and are proud
- 16:50Speaker 1: that our twenty two year old daughters as well. I
- 16:52Speaker 1: lean all grunge, classic rock. He likes the harder stuff.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I don't like all the screaming, corn rage, etc. I'm
- 16:58Speaker 1: more twenty one pilots, panic disco, Harry Styles. We love
- 17:01Speaker 1: live music. We both like the boom, and our car
- 17:04Speaker 1: stereo is as important a feature as the breaks a.
- 17:08Speaker 1: He has a custom mini truck that he takes to shows.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I like to hike more nature, walk the mountain climbing.
- 17:13Speaker 1: We both love to just hang out and binge our
- 17:15Speaker 1: favorite shows, and of course discuss Disgraceland episodes. Been listening
- 17:19Speaker 1: since twenty eighteen, maybe nineteen, who can remember. I look
- 17:21Speaker 1: forward to listening for years to come. Rock a Rolla
- 17:24Speaker 1: from Tony and Sacramento. Tony say how to your man
- 17:27Speaker 1: for us? Thanks so much for getting in touch telling
- 17:30Speaker 1: us about yourself. Appreciate that sounds like you guys have
- 17:33Speaker 1: a great relationship. Karen from the six four to six
- 17:37Speaker 1: right since she's a female photographer living in Brooklyn with
- 17:39Speaker 1: an eleven year old son, originally from the Bay Area,
- 17:41Speaker 1: where she was raised on raves, skateboarding, gaze and good
- 17:45Speaker 1: times a My favorite things to do are work, dance, travel,
- 17:51Speaker 1: check out our museums, drink wine, reed, cook and party
- 17:54Speaker 1: with my friends. In the biggest category, of music I've
- 17:56Speaker 1: been into throughout my life is alternative, followed closely by techno,
- 17:59Speaker 1: house olds, Thank you very much, hip hop, trip hop, seventies,
- 18:03Speaker 1: funking soul, and classical. You guys have great tastes, as
- 18:06Speaker 1: as exemplified by Karen here. Karen goes on to say
- 18:10Speaker 1: that some of her favorite movies are Blade Runner, Alien,
- 18:13Speaker 1: Heather's Party Girl, Party Girls, Great Parker Posy. Good choice,
- 18:18Speaker 1: Good choice, Karen. She lists a bunch of other ones
- 18:20Speaker 1: her favorite books and authors, The Bell Jar, The History
- 18:23Speaker 1: of johnk Annihilation, Sherlock Holmes, Margaret Atwood, Raymond Chandler, Awesome.
- 18:28Speaker 1: William Gibson. Never read any Gibson, I say, Gibson like
- 18:32Speaker 1: I know who the hell she's talking about. I don't
- 18:33Speaker 1: even know who William Gibson is, but I never read him.
- 18:36Speaker 1: So much more, that's quite enough question for you. What
- 18:40Speaker 1: does a whole lot of Rosie mean? Well, thanks for asking, Karen,
- 18:43Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. It's in reference to one
- 18:47Speaker 1: of my favorite songs of all time by a c DC.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I don't know, just a whole lot of rosie. I
- 18:51Speaker 1: just felt like saying it one day, and it's stuck
- 18:53Speaker 1: so there it is. You know, bon Scott's taste, as
- 18:56Speaker 1: demonstrated in that song, partially aligned with my taste, so
- 18:59Speaker 1: you know it makes sense. It's six one seven nine
- 19:01Speaker 1: o six six six three eight. You guys want to
- 19:03Speaker 1: get at me With next week's question of the week,
- 19:05Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about which artists best represented their
- 19:08Speaker 1: time in their music? Was it Prince was signed of
- 19:11Speaker 1: the Times? Was it somebody else? Get at us and
- 19:13Speaker 1: let us know. And look, I'm looking to get to
- 19:14Speaker 1: know all you guys. Okay, not just Karen, not just Tony.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Hit me up. Let me know what you're into. I
- 19:19Speaker 1: want to know what books you're reading. Especially, that's something
- 19:22Speaker 1: that I know. Karen mentioned that I've been on a
- 19:24Speaker 1: reading kick, a fiction kick lately, and my tastes are
- 19:30Speaker 1: very much they're in the thriller, crime thriller. I guess
- 19:33Speaker 1: is how you would how you would describe my taste
- 19:37Speaker 1: James Elroy, Richard Price. I'm reading a Richard Price book
- 19:42Speaker 1: right now called Lazarus Man. It's really good. Last year
- 19:45Speaker 1: I talked to you guys about this. I got on
- 19:46Speaker 1: this mystery kick, kind of a who Done It? Kick?
- 19:50Speaker 1: And I was looking at the charts. A friend of
- 19:54Speaker 1: mine just released her book this week and it's it's
- 19:57Speaker 1: going gangbusters, and it brought me to look at the
- 20:00Speaker 1: charts and see how it was doing. And I realized
- 20:03Speaker 1: that the only books that really sell these days are
- 20:08Speaker 1: sort of in the murder mystery vein, you know, and
- 20:13Speaker 1: the majority of people who read those books are women.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's just a fact if you look it up, it's
- 20:18Speaker 1: just a fact. Demographically more women read those books than men.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So I started asking myself, well, what a men read?
- 20:24Speaker 1: And I looked it up, and men read mostly history,
- 20:27Speaker 1: like nonfiction history, and to the extent that they're reading fiction.
- 20:34Speaker 1: If there's any sort of category that correlates with women
- 20:40Speaker 1: in their obsession with murder mystery novels, it's sort of
- 20:46Speaker 1: this action thriller Jack Reacher type of book that ain't
- 20:52Speaker 1: my thing. I like this crime thriller thing that I
- 20:55Speaker 1: thought was much bigger than it is. Turns out it's
- 20:59Speaker 1: not that big at all, that bic of a genre
- 21:00Speaker 1: when it comes to books. So, dudes, I want to
- 21:04Speaker 1: know what you like to read. Okay, let me know
- 21:07Speaker 1: what types of books you like to read. And ladies,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I asked the same of you as well, if beyond
- 21:14Speaker 1: the murder mystery or this murder mystery and what authors
- 21:16Speaker 1: because I like that stuff and I like reading it
- 21:18Speaker 1: as well. I think I'm in the minority of men
- 21:21Speaker 1: who read that stuff. I could be wrong anyhow, This
- 21:23Speaker 1: is just on my mind lately, and you know, as
- 21:25Speaker 1: I get to know you guys, this is one thing
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'm curious about. What are you reading? What are you
- 21:28Speaker 1: guys into? All right, let me know at disgracelam pod
- 21:31Speaker 1: you want to hit me up there, on Instagram, on X,
- 21:33Speaker 1: on Facebook, any of those places, just like Kentucky Colonel
- 21:38Speaker 1: hitting us up on x saying, hey, did not know
- 21:41Speaker 1: about Tim Allen's life before comedy, remarkable that he was
- 21:45Speaker 1: able to use his talents to find funny. In the
- 21:47Speaker 1: middle of all that, Kentucky Colonel is of course talking
- 21:52Speaker 1: about our Tim Allen episode of Hollywood Land, which we
- 21:55Speaker 1: released this week, and that I totally screwed up in
- 21:57Speaker 1: regards to the after party. You'll hear about that in
- 22:00Speaker 1: a minute, and by a minute, I mean a second
- 22:02Speaker 1: right now. So we do these easter eggs in the
- 22:06Speaker 1: hollywood Land episodes where I ask you guys a question
- 22:09Speaker 1: that is specific to that episode. You go find the question,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you let me know about it, and then I award
- 22:14Speaker 1: you in some way. However, I fucked it up. I'm
- 22:18Speaker 1: not even gonna get into how I fucked it up.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I just fucked it up. It's an ice cream headache
- 22:22Speaker 1: of a problem. And it has to do with me
- 22:24Speaker 1: recording the episodes too early. I apologize. And so there
- 22:28Speaker 1: we have no hollywood Land Easter egg for you this week.
- 22:31Speaker 1: We will be back with it next week. Just know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: listen to hollywood Land. Okay, it's taken off over there
- 22:37Speaker 1: in its own feed. We got big plans for this
- 22:39Speaker 1: feed going forward. It's not just going to be an
- 22:42Speaker 1: archive going forward. But in the meantime, you can catch
- 22:44Speaker 1: up on all of these episodes, and if you have
- 22:46Speaker 1: not heard any of them and you're craving for more
- 22:48Speaker 1: double Elvis storytelling with me on the mic, this is
- 22:50Speaker 1: your chance. Got over forty episodes over there the hollywood
- 22:53Speaker 1: Land feed. We got the Tim Allen one that was
- 22:55Speaker 1: just referenced, and we have one coming next week on
- 23:00Speaker 1: Will Smith and the Slap Heard around the World. It
- 23:04Speaker 1: was really hard for me to bite my tongue on
- 23:06Speaker 1: this episode. I don't think I really bid it at all, actually,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and it was when we originally produced it, I was
- 23:14Speaker 1: in partnership with a media company who was at that
- 23:17Speaker 1: very moment in a big time partnership with Will Smith.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So it was it was tricky terrain to navigate. But
- 23:23Speaker 1: I think we did a good job and I think
- 23:24Speaker 1: I expressed how I felt. And I hope you guys
- 23:26Speaker 1: dig it. That's coming your way next week in the
- 23:29Speaker 1: Hollywood Land feed listening to know what else I hope
- 23:30Speaker 1: is coming your way soon, A fucking Red Sox win.
- 23:33Speaker 1: All right, this is the sports rant. This is me
- 23:36Speaker 1: giving you thirty seconds of my thoughts on sports for
- 23:39Speaker 1: those of you, a lot of people from Pennsylvania, by
- 23:40Speaker 1: the way, And I'm wondering how many Pirates fans are
- 23:42Speaker 1: out there. My kid wants a Pirates hat. We've been
- 23:44Speaker 1: talking about it. Best hat in the game. Anyhow, even
- 23:47Speaker 1: though the Celtics are in the playoffs right now, I'm
- 23:49Speaker 1: gonna take a beat on that. I'm not gonna talk
- 23:50Speaker 1: about Celtics, gonna talk about Red Sox because Tristan Cassis
- 23:53Speaker 1: went down and there is a big, big, big hole
- 23:55Speaker 1: in the lineup. Not that he was actually hitting, he wasn't,
- 23:58Speaker 1: but he's supposed to bring it around. The Reds. They
- 24:00Speaker 1: got this stud in the miners that could just cut
- 24:03Speaker 1: you know, everyone's saying, bring the dude up, Roman Anthony,
- 24:06Speaker 1: what a name too, Roman Anthony. Guy looks like he's
- 24:08Speaker 1: about to invade the hinterland and he can swing, and
- 24:11Speaker 1: they they're not bringing him up. And they need to
- 24:13Speaker 1: bring them up. And the Red Sox need to get
- 24:14Speaker 1: off their ass and they need to actually start to
- 24:16Speaker 1: think about their audience, their fans. We want to see
- 24:20Speaker 1: winning now. Okay, they have the money, they have the talent.
- 24:26Speaker 1: They need to stop playing everything for the future, small
- 24:31Speaker 1: ball future. We need to win now. Baseball is highly
- 24:35Speaker 1: competitive right now. There are some incredible teams right now,
- 24:38Speaker 1: the Giants, the Mets, the Yankees hitting the tar off
- 24:42Speaker 1: the ball. And if we want to compete with those teams,
- 24:44Speaker 1: we've got to put our best out there on the field.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Bring it, bring the kid up, let's fucking go. All right,
- 24:50Speaker 1: that was my sports man. I'll be back in the
- 24:52Speaker 1: flash with your emails in the Hollywood Land Minute. All right,
- 25:08Speaker 1: we are back, and you know what time it is.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It's time for the Hollywood Lab Minute, brought to you
- 25:11Speaker 1: by the Hollywood Lamp Podcast. Don't know what the Hollywood
- 25:13Speaker 1: Lap podcast is. Well, The Hollywood Lamp Podcast is hosted
- 25:15Speaker 1: by Yours Truly, where every week I tell you a
- 25:17Speaker 1: story from the annex of Hollywood and true crime. And
- 25:19Speaker 1: right now there are over forty episodes waiting for you
- 25:22Speaker 1: to binge. Episodes on Robin Williams, Champann, Andy Warholt, David Lynch,
- 25:24Speaker 1: Shawn Waters, Danny Treyhill, Merril Monroe, Steve McQueen, Paris Hilton,
- 25:28Speaker 1: Jane Fonda, and most recently, the very talented dude from
- 25:32Speaker 1: over on the other side of the Fence, Tim Allen.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Here's a clip. The car crossed two lanes of traffic
- 25:39Speaker 1: before it flipped over. The other car traveling in the
- 25:42Speaker 1: opposite direction didn't have time to get out of the way.
- 25:44Speaker 1: There was no warning, no way out break, squealed tires,
- 25:48Speaker 1: not the pavement. The shriek of metal on metal is
- 25:51Speaker 1: ear splitting and soul rout. Timothy Allen Dick didn't go
- 25:56Speaker 1: with his parents and a few of his siblings to
- 25:58Speaker 1: the University of Colorado football game that day, so he
- 26:01Speaker 1: wasn't in the car with them when a drunk driver's
- 26:04Speaker 1: car literally flopped on top of their car. His mother
- 26:07Speaker 1: and siblings survived. His father, however, wasn't so lucky. He
- 26:12Speaker 1: was killed in the crash. It was November twenty third,
- 26:16Speaker 1: nineteen sixty four. The Dick family of eight had suddenly
- 26:19Speaker 1: become a family of seven. Tim was eleven years old.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He was angry. He was angry that his father had
- 26:25Speaker 1: been taken away from him. He was angry that a
- 26:27Speaker 1: drunk man could crash into a sober man, and that
- 26:30Speaker 1: the drunk man wasn't the one to die. Life was
- 26:34Speaker 1: fucking unfair like that. So what do you do when
- 26:37Speaker 1: life is patently unfair? When you're anger about one thing
- 26:41Speaker 1: metastasizes into anger about everything. You game life. You don't
- 26:45Speaker 1: listen to anyone else, especially adults. Well, you don't let
- 26:49Speaker 1: the adults know you're not listening. You smile, you say please,
- 26:53Speaker 1: you say thank you. You sip politely at the dinner table,
- 26:56Speaker 1: with perfect posture, with your napkin folded neatly in your lap.
- 27:00Speaker 1: You demonstrate manners that would make Emily fucking Post proud.
- 27:03Speaker 1: And but the manners are just for show, because when
- 27:05Speaker 1: the adults turn their backs, you take them for all
- 27:08Speaker 1: their worth. You Nick hooch from the liquor cabinet, You
- 27:11Speaker 1: grab the keys off the kitchen counter and take the
- 27:13Speaker 1: station wagon for the ride of your life. You give
- 27:15Speaker 1: off the illusion that you were paying attention, following rules,
- 27:19Speaker 1: listening and being respectful, but in reality, you aren't doing
- 27:22Speaker 1: anything of the sort because there's pain and anger gnawing
- 27:26Speaker 1: away at your insize, and this is how you deal
- 27:29Speaker 1: with it. All right, guys, make sure you are subscribed
- 27:34Speaker 1: to the Hollywood Land podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or
- 27:38Speaker 1: wherever you get your podcasts. Next week, like I mentioned earlier,
- 27:41Speaker 1: we have our episode coming on Will Smith and you
- 27:44Speaker 1: are not going to want to miss that. All right, Guys,
- 27:46Speaker 1: want to do a couple of your emails. You want
- 27:47Speaker 1: to hit me up an email about anything disgrace a
- 27:49Speaker 1: pod at gmail dot com. This one comes from Paul.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Paul's subject is the Cars and Little Richard. Hey, Jake,
- 27:56Speaker 1: just wanted to write and tell you how much I
- 27:58Speaker 1: love your show. I stumbled on at work and now
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm hooked on it like Tyrone Biggams is hooked on crack.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I don't know who Tyrone Biggams is. I'm not gonna
- 28:05Speaker 1: look it up. Tyrone if you're listening, I apologize. I
- 28:08Speaker 1: also wanted to inquire why a Worcester guy, being so
- 28:10Speaker 1: close to Boston hasn't done an episode about the greatest
- 28:13Speaker 1: band that ever came out of Beingtown, The Cars, Aerosmith,
- 28:16Speaker 1: Me Journey, question Mark maybe, but the Cars has such
- 28:20Speaker 1: an awesome history that I think that it would make
- 28:22Speaker 1: for some interesting material. Secondly, I'm curious as to why
- 28:25Speaker 1: the Little Richard episode was so heavily censored slash redacted.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Usually let it all fly on your other episodes, so
- 28:32Speaker 1: I hold back on that particular one. So thanks for
- 28:34Speaker 1: putting on such a great show, and keep it the
- 28:35Speaker 1: great work. Respectfully, Paul See Paul appreciate the email. Paul,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I am not from Worcester. I'm from Clinton. There's a
- 28:43Speaker 1: big difference. Okay, big, big, big, big big. No disrespect
- 28:48Speaker 1: to Worcester, but I got to give it up to
- 28:50Speaker 1: my Clinton folks. All right. I get the Cars coming, Okay,
- 28:55Speaker 1: get another Boston band coming before that, though, sort of
- 28:58Speaker 1: the Pixies from Boston. We'll do a Cars episode. I
- 29:02Speaker 1: don't know the right angle yet. You mentioned Journey. I
- 29:05Speaker 1: think you meant to say Boston. I want to do
- 29:07Speaker 1: a Boston episode. There's some really bad stuff there. I
- 29:11Speaker 1: don't know how to handle it, to be perfectly honest. Now,
- 29:13Speaker 1: on your question of Little Richard in the censoring the bleeping,
- 29:17Speaker 1: that story was so depraved, that particular part of the
- 29:20Speaker 1: story was so disgusting. Then when I actually voiced what happened,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I just I couldn't. I couldn't let it just sounded
- 29:30Speaker 1: it sounded too gross coming back at me and the speakers.
- 29:33Speaker 1: So we bleeped it. And yeah, that's that's really the
- 29:36Speaker 1: only answer I was. I know what made me do it.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I did it on my own. It was an editorial decision,
- 29:40Speaker 1: creative decision, and that's that's why we did it. So
- 29:42Speaker 1: there you go. Appreciate you, Paul, thanks for listening, thanks
- 29:44Speaker 1: for writing. All Right, guys, you want to help out
- 29:46Speaker 1: the show, you can do so by leaving a review
- 29:47Speaker 1: on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. Just go to either and
- 29:50Speaker 1: look for Disgrace Slam. Leave a review, let the folks

- 30:20Speaker 1: but thank you so much. Jonathan Hollis on Spotify writes

- 30:26Speaker 1: Halen episodes. I can tell that you guys really love
- 30:28Speaker 1: Van Halen. Min I suggest you guys do an episode
- 30:30Speaker 1: on another group. I love Death Grips. They've got insane

- 31:46Speaker 1: in a metal Coco's in there she's a country fan,
- 31:49Speaker 1: much to her surprise. Anyways, we're all in there pretty
- 31:53Speaker 1: much every day, talking talking to each other, talking about music,

- 32:30Speaker 1: we did talk about eddievan Halen, and Eddie van Halen
- 32:31Speaker 1: shows up in that Pantera episode, which is one of
- 32:34Speaker 1: my favorites. You're going want to check that out, especially
- 32:36Speaker 1: to hear how Eddie was an integral part of the
- 32:40Speaker 1: Abbott Brothers and just the sound of Pantera. You know,
- 32:45Speaker 1: we mentioned Hendricks, we mentioned Jimmy Page obviously Hendricks and
- 32:47Speaker 1: led Zeppelin episodes in the Disgraceland archive. A lot of

- 33:14Speaker 1: a lot of great hip hop in the archive for
- 33:15Speaker 1: you guys, if that's your thing. Matt's going to have
