Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to the Inside the Birds pregame show with
0:12
Speaker 1: Greg Cosell. I'm Jeff Mosher alongside Adam Kaplan, and of
0:16
Speaker 1: course we've got Greg Cosell to help us break down
0:20
Speaker 1: the tape and the matchup of the Eagles opponent here
0:23
Speaker 1: in week ten, the Green Bay Packers. It's a Monday
0:27
Speaker 1: Night special between two very good teams. The Eagles coming
0:32
Speaker 1: out of there by six and two, two straight wins,
0:35
Speaker 1: including a thirty eight twenty win over the Giants the
0:38
Speaker 1: last time they were on the field, the Packers five
0:41
Speaker 1: two and one, but coming off a loss at home
0:45
Speaker 1: against the Panthers. And I asked Greg off the air,
0:48
Speaker 1: as at Joe Craig, how did the Packers lose the Panthers,
0:52
Speaker 1: Because I was looking for his normally brilliant insight, and
0:55
Speaker 1: he said, Jeff, they scored fewer points, which is absolutely
0:59
Speaker 1: not That's how it works. We don't even need tape.
1:03
Speaker 2: I know, good show, guys, We'll see.
1:05
Speaker 1: You, But no, I'm going to assume that this is
1:11
Speaker 1: gonna be a good game. You know, we always talk
1:12
Speaker 1: about the week to week nature of the NFL, so
1:16
Speaker 1: both teams have had some low points. Obviously, the Packers.
1:18
Speaker 1: Losing the Panthers has won the Eagles lost to the
1:22
Speaker 1: Giants earlier this year. I expect this, Adam greg to
1:25
Speaker 1: be our pretty good game between two very good teams
1:29
Speaker 1: who are also somewhat similar stylistically and how they like
1:32
Speaker 1: to run their offense a little bit, and we'll get
1:35
Speaker 1: into this, we'll break it down, Adam. You expect yourself.
1:37
Speaker 1: I mean this, we've been kind of had this game
1:39
Speaker 1: circled a little bit going into the year.
1:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is one of those litmus test games, no
1:44
Speaker 3: question about.
1:45
Speaker 2: Now.
1:45
Speaker 3: Parsons got some Dallas to the Green Bay. They know
1:48
Speaker 3: Parsons very well. They've done well against Matt Lafleur, by
1:51
Speaker 3: the way Sirianni Nick Sirianni's four to oh for a buye.
1:55
Speaker 3: They're usually prepared. I really thought, Jeff that this is
1:58
Speaker 3: a great time to have it instead of like Week
1:59
Speaker 3: four last year whenever what weeks four.
2:01
Speaker 2: Week five last year?
2:02
Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I think this is a good spot for them.
2:05
Speaker 3: And both teams have some minor injury concerns. We'll get
2:08
Speaker 3: into that later. But yeah, this is to me a
2:12
Speaker 3: real good matchup. I'm really looking forward to this game.
2:14
Speaker 3: I'm so glad it's on Monday night. Not that you
2:16
Speaker 3: and I want to stay up late or Greg does,
2:17
Speaker 3: because I know Greg gets up super early, but it's
2:20
Speaker 3: just that it's good. That's the national spotlight game.
2:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, agreed, Greg. We've talked obviously, our our our audience
2:26
Speaker 1: is familiar with the things we've talked about with the
2:28
Speaker 1: Eagles all year long that have been inconsistent, whether it's
2:31
Speaker 1: the run game, third down offense, pass rush. But the Packers,
2:36
Speaker 1: you know, for being five to two and one and
2:38
Speaker 1: looking like a Super Bowl contender going into the year,
2:40
Speaker 1: they've lost to the Browns, they lost the Panthers, and
2:44
Speaker 1: they tied the Dallas Cowboys and allowed you know, they points. Yeah,
2:50
Speaker 1: So in terms of leaving meat on the bone, what's
2:53
Speaker 1: with that?
2:55
Speaker 2: Yeah? The ones?
2:55
Speaker 4: I always find that hard to answer because you know,
2:58
Speaker 4: last week, for instance, we talked about this earlier, Jeff Is.
3:02
Speaker 4: Last week they were one for five in the red zone,
3:04
Speaker 4: and they'd been a very good red zone team prior
3:06
Speaker 4: to that, one of the better ones in the league.
3:09
Speaker 4: And overall, because we actually did a study on their
3:11
Speaker 4: red zone this week, they've been very good. Now, Tucker
3:14
Speaker 4: Craft was a big part of that and we'll get
3:16
Speaker 4: into that as we talk more. But they'd been a very,
3:19
Speaker 4: very good red zone team. But when it was an
3:22
Speaker 4: odd game, and obviously it doesn't matter whether it's odd
3:26
Speaker 4: or not. You've obviously got to win games like that
3:28
Speaker 4: if you're the Packers. But they had eight possessions, which
3:31
Speaker 4: by the way, is not a lot of possessions, They
3:33
Speaker 4: did not punt, and yet they only scored thirteen points.
3:37
Speaker 4: That's a very strange game. They did move the football,
3:40
Speaker 4: they got into the red zone five times, and they
3:43
Speaker 4: were only able to score one touchdown and that didn't
3:46
Speaker 4: come I don't believe until the fourth quarter.
3:49
Speaker 1: That's just odd. One of those unexplainable things.
3:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so.
3:54
Speaker 1: I mean, you can look for reasons to say, hey,
3:56
Speaker 1: the Eagles are overrated because of this, the Packers are
3:58
Speaker 1: overrated because of that. But these are two really good teams,
4:01
Speaker 1: and it wouldn't be surprising if both of them are
4:03
Speaker 1: back play in the playoffs and maybe playing each other
4:06
Speaker 1: like they did last year. Obviously, this matchup will be impacted,
4:10
Speaker 1: as many are, by injuries, both teams dealing with them.
4:14
Speaker 1: Now at the time of us recording this, we know
4:16
Speaker 1: the final injury report because it's a Monday night game,
4:19
Speaker 1: not out, So we'll go and give all the information
4:22
Speaker 1: that we have at the moment that we know is pertinent,
4:24
Speaker 1: and then continue to stay tuned on the inside the
4:27
Speaker 1: Birds platform throughout the weekend because we'll give more injury
4:31
Speaker 1: updates and then before we even get into the injuries,
4:34
Speaker 1: I do want to take a minute to encourage our audience,
4:38
Speaker 1: our listeners, our viewers to check out on our platform
4:41
Speaker 1: an interview that Andrew de Checo did with former Eagles
4:45
Speaker 1: first round pick outside linebacker Marcus Smith this week. Marcus
4:49
Speaker 1: Smith has done a lot of work in the mental
4:53
Speaker 1: health awareness space. He has his own foundation, Circle of
4:56
Speaker 1: M Foundation. We've had him on here, Adam and I.
5:00
Speaker 1: I interviewed him at the Super Bowl a couple of
5:01
Speaker 1: years ago, where he talked about his own difficulties trying
5:05
Speaker 1: to live up to being a first round pick from
5:06
Speaker 1: the Eagles. He's been candid about his own suicide attempt
5:11
Speaker 1: and obviously with everything that went on with the Cowboys
5:14
Speaker 1: and Marshawn Neil and his family, we express all of
5:16
Speaker 1: our thoughts with his loved ones and his family, but
5:19
Speaker 1: we thought it would be important and great idea by
5:21
Speaker 1: Andrew to have this wonderful interview with Marcus Smith, who,
5:25
Speaker 1: like I said, does great work and activism in bringing
5:29
Speaker 1: awareness to mental health issues, specifically as the intersect with sports.
5:34
Speaker 1: So we want everybody to check that out on the
5:36
Speaker 1: inside the Birds platforms. Thank you to you gentlemen for
5:40
Speaker 1: you know, hanging in there with me for a second. Yeah,
5:45
Speaker 1: let's talk about the injuries impacting both the Eagles and
5:48
Speaker 1: the Packers going into this game. Man, Adam, we thought
5:51
Speaker 1: the bye week would be a really good opportunity for
5:54
Speaker 1: the offensive line in particular to get healthy. But you know,
5:58
Speaker 1: for the first three practices of the week, oh, Cam Jurgens,
6:01
Speaker 1: which is always you know, not a good sign.
6:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, through Friday's pay for the first two Yeah, he
6:07
Speaker 3: doesn't work.
6:08
Speaker 1: So I was assuming Monday when they did their whatever
6:11
Speaker 1: light stuff that he probably wasn't involved.
6:14
Speaker 3: I don't know what they did. Yeah, I don't know
6:15
Speaker 3: if they I know they had meetings. But the bottom
6:18
Speaker 3: line is, yeah, it doesn't look good for Jergons. Brett
6:20
Speaker 3: Toath will replace him, and then Jeorge Jackson after getting
6:24
Speaker 3: some minimal work on Thursday with a concussion, remember he's
6:27
Speaker 3: still in protocol, didn't was not seen on the field Friday,
6:30
Speaker 3: so we'll see what happens closer to the game. And
6:35
Speaker 3: by the way, the transactions are not the final transactions
6:39
Speaker 3: don't need to be done until Monday at four pm Easter.
6:41
Speaker 3: It's a special for Monday Night Football, so the Eagles
6:44
Speaker 3: could take it as long as they want to activate
6:46
Speaker 3: guys off of IR So if people are gonna wonder
6:48
Speaker 3: they can do it with Saturday, they're gonna be Monday
6:50
Speaker 3: most teams, particularly Eagles, So he goes love to do this.
6:52
Speaker 3: I'd like to wait to the last minute for competitive reasons.
6:55
Speaker 3: It's a smart thing. We know that Dodger cran Bennett
6:58
Speaker 3: is practicing with the pectorial strain. He looks like he's close,
7:01
Speaker 3: so they have to Monday night to activate him if
7:03
Speaker 3: they want to. And Nolan Smith with the triceps coming
7:06
Speaker 3: off the tri SEPs train, same triceps issued that he
7:09
Speaker 3: had when he had surgery, so things are looking good
7:11
Speaker 3: for him. And those are two guys Jeff that potentially
7:14
Speaker 3: could be activated for this game.
7:16
Speaker 1: Could be and that could actually factor really prominently. And
7:19
Speaker 1: how this game has played the flow of it and
7:21
Speaker 1: what happens there So obviously, like I told everybody, make
7:24
Speaker 1: sure you stay tuned on Inside the Birds throughout the
7:26
Speaker 1: weekend and up until Monday afternoon to get as many
7:29
Speaker 1: updates as you can. Otherwise pretty good. You know, I
7:33
Speaker 1: think a lot of people were worried about Sakuon Barkley
7:36
Speaker 1: with the groin, but he's fine. He's been out at
7:38
Speaker 1: practice at least, and that is a very good indication
7:42
Speaker 1: for a team that finally greg got its running game
7:44
Speaker 1: going against the Giants, and you would have to think
7:48
Speaker 1: in this game it's gonna have to be there for
7:50
Speaker 1: them to hold up against the Packers' defense. It's pretty good.
7:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good matchup because the Packers are a
7:55
Speaker 4: good defense. They're top five overall their top five votes
7:58
Speaker 4: in their run defense and their pass defense. So this
8:02
Speaker 4: is a very good matchup in that regard. So we
8:06
Speaker 4: know that in the last game Neagles played, which was
8:08
Speaker 4: beating the Giants, that that was really their template. That's
8:12
Speaker 4: the way they got to the Super Bowl a year ago.
8:15
Speaker 4: We've discussed that, you know, no one runs for two
8:17
Speaker 4: hundred and seventy six yards every week, and you don't
8:19
Speaker 4: need to do that, but the point is the run
8:22
Speaker 4: games was their foundation. A year ago. There were numerous
8:25
Speaker 4: games where Jalen Hurts did not have thirty dropbacks. He
8:28
Speaker 4: did not against the Giants, but he was very, very efficient.
8:33
Speaker 4: Doesn't turn the ball over, which when they play the
8:36
Speaker 4: way they want to play, that is such a key
8:39
Speaker 4: element to their to their offense, the fact that they
8:42
Speaker 4: do not turn the ball over. The fact the reason
8:45
Speaker 4: the run game is such a big factor as well.
8:47
Speaker 4: We spoke about this quite a bit during the summer
8:50
Speaker 4: when we did shows. Was that when it's third and seven,
8:54
Speaker 4: which from ninety nine point nine percent of teams in
8:57
Speaker 4: the NFL, is a passing down, the Eagles will run
9:01
Speaker 4: the football and they'll get to fourth and two, particularly
9:03
Speaker 4: if they're at the fifty yard line going into plus territory,
9:06
Speaker 4: and then they will literally if it gets to be
9:09
Speaker 4: fourth and four or less and they're in plus territory,
9:12
Speaker 4: that's a go down for them. And the reason that's
9:15
Speaker 4: important is because it changes the way defenses have to
9:18
Speaker 4: look at third and seven. Pretty much every defense of
9:21
Speaker 4: the league views third and seven. It's a passing down.
9:24
Speaker 4: You're putting in your your pass rushers, your NASCAR group.
9:27
Speaker 4: You're playing dime or nickel or dime, depending on what
9:30
Speaker 4: you do. In those situations, then the Eagles run the football,
9:34
Speaker 4: you know, yeah, and so it changes a lot of things.
9:37
Speaker 4: So when they run the ball as they did against
9:39
Speaker 4: the Giants, and hopefully that continues, then it changes everything
9:44
Speaker 4: about their offense and the way defenses have to play
9:47
Speaker 4: against them.
9:48
Speaker 5: Sky Motor Cars and West Guts, but there's a different
9:50
Speaker 5: soul than the other team. All the takes is one
9:53
Speaker 5: one with their high line pre owned vehicles. But people
9:55

Speaker 1: and confront the intruder to let them know they're being

11:30
Speaker 3: Greg One thing I do want to ask about the
11:31
Speaker 3: run game last week and hasn't happened a lot, but
11:34
Speaker 3: last week Rico Daddle had a very strong game game.
11:36
Speaker 3: He did anything that you noticed that the was exploited
11:40
Speaker 3: on the run defensive Green Bay.
11:43
Speaker 4: They were in multiple run game concepts. They did some
11:46
Speaker 4: really good things in dawbd All is a very hard runner.
11:51
Speaker 4: He gets hard earned yards, so when it's blocked for three,
11:54
Speaker 4: he's a guy that might get five or six. He
11:57
Speaker 4: just looked really good running the ball.
11:59
Speaker 3: Now.
11:59
Speaker 4: They they had a twenty nine yard er on a
12:02
Speaker 4: pin pull concept, which we've seen the Eagles run getting
12:05
Speaker 4: Barkley uh on the perimeter. They they ran it out
12:08
Speaker 4: of eleven personnel, so the Packers were in their their nickel,
12:12
Speaker 4: and then Dowdell had a great cutback on the play.
12:15
Speaker 4: So it's a combination of the concept, the blocking, and
12:18
Speaker 4: then Dowdell having an outstanding cutback reading the flow of
12:22
Speaker 4: of the safety. So and then he had a long
12:25
Speaker 4: run late in the game. That's how he got I
12:28
Speaker 4: don't want to say that's how he got all his yards,
12:30
Speaker 4: but but to those two runs, if I'm not mistaken,
12:34
Speaker 4: got him up to maybe sixty yards or so give order.
12:39
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so so you're yeah, so that's what happened.
12:43
Speaker 4: But he's a really hard I guess he had a
12:45
Speaker 4: nineteen yard run on the winning drive. Yes, so yeah,
12:50
Speaker 4: he's he's a very hard runner. You got You got
12:53
Speaker 4: to get a lot of bodies to him or he's
12:55
Speaker 4: going to take you know, like I said, those two
12:58
Speaker 4: yard runs and all of a sudden their five yard runs.
13:00
Speaker 2: Jeff.
13:01
Speaker 3: One of the things that happened that game is Wood
13:03
Speaker 3: and Colby Wood in one of their starting the tackles,
13:05
Speaker 3: he got hurt early in the game. Yeah, that might
13:08
Speaker 3: have that might have been an impact. And he's been
13:11
Speaker 3: limited in practice this week. Well, we'll updates. We're gonna
13:14
Speaker 3: probably have two Andrew. And Andrew's gonna do his daily
13:16
Speaker 3: to check and I'm gonna have one where we take
13:18
Speaker 3: a master review of the late information and then you
13:20
Speaker 3: and I actually drop a show Money Morning, right do
13:23
Speaker 3: for the Money Show. So we'll be all over it.
13:25
Speaker 3: But that does factor. And no, Judkins did well, Quinchan
13:28
Speaker 3: Jenkins after he came off the reserve list, he did
13:31
Speaker 3: well against them. They they've had like two or three
13:33
Speaker 3: games where they didn't stop the run. But overall, Greg right,
13:35
Speaker 3: they've had plenty of games. Now, the mccardo and the Cardinals.
13:38
Speaker 3: You know, the Cardinals were down two backs, Jeff, some games.
13:42
Speaker 3: And Washington doesn't run the ball particularly well unless it's
13:45
Speaker 3: a cross key Murror who was not a factor at
13:47
Speaker 3: all when they played him, So yeah, timing is everything.
13:50
Speaker 1: So good point and good segue, Adam to the Packers
13:53
Speaker 1: who are dealing with their injuries as well, both on
13:56
Speaker 1: offense and defense. They have a ton of guys who
13:58
Speaker 1: are who are limited at practice this week.
14:00
Speaker 2: Now.
14:01
Speaker 1: Some of them, like Micah Parsons get just get a
14:03
Speaker 1: lot of rest. He's played. Yeah, but really at wide
14:06
Speaker 1: receiver they're hurt, and at pass catcher in general, because
14:10
Speaker 1: we know Tucker Craft is now out for the year
14:12
Speaker 1: with an acal injury. That's gonna put Luke Musgrave into
14:16
Speaker 1: the number one tight end role. And he was the
14:17
Speaker 1: second round pick a couple of years ago. But Craft
14:20
Speaker 1: clearly has emerged to one of the better best tight
14:23
Speaker 1: ends in the league and a big weapon for Jordan Love.
14:25
Speaker 1: But when you also look at wide receiver, Matthew Golden
14:29
Speaker 1: has been limited. He got banged up in the last game.
14:31
Speaker 1: Christian Watson is will play, but obviously he's coming back
14:35
Speaker 1: from the ACL. He's doing fine, but he's always limited
14:38
Speaker 1: a practice. But also Savion Williams, their rookie, was out
14:41
Speaker 1: of practice and Dontavian Wicks has been limited, so you know,
14:45
Speaker 1: you talk about a team that probably wants to take
14:47
Speaker 1: advantage of cornerback two on the Eagles, but their only
14:51
Speaker 1: receiver who's practicing fully throughout the week is Romeo. They're
14:55
Speaker 1: only one that's of the five or Romeo Dobbs. Yeah.
14:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, so basically where they're at on offenses. Wix didn't
15:03
Speaker 3: play the previous week to a calf strain. He started
15:05
Speaker 3: working this week. They got to see how it gets
15:07
Speaker 3: their practicement. Calf injuries or strains with receivers are never good.
15:11
Speaker 3: Cevion Williams, who Greg talked about on a show with
15:13
Speaker 3: US earlier this week, he suffered a foot injury in
15:16
Speaker 3: the game. That's someone to watch for this this week.
15:18
Speaker 3: He hasn't done much Golden. They're optimistic. At first they
15:21
Speaker 3: were concerned, but it's more of a day to day injury.
15:24
Speaker 3: And then Jane reads out till December. So yeah, and
15:26
Speaker 3: what is Jande Reid? By the way, Greg, what does
15:29
Speaker 3: he mean to their offense when he played?
15:30
Speaker 2: He read is a wide receiver for the Packers?
15:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, but what does he do for them.
15:37
Speaker 1: Quarterback? Yeah, he's a pretty important part of their offense. Yeah.
15:41
Speaker 4: Well, when he's healthy, he is their predominant motion movement receiver.
15:46
Speaker 4: They use him a lot on jet and motion orbit motion.
15:49
Speaker 4: He dictates the way defenses sometimes react, whether they bump,
15:52
Speaker 4: whether they're matching up man.
15:55
Speaker 2: And he's a very good receiver.
15:56
Speaker 4: I remember doing his tape next to last year in
15:59
Speaker 4: Michigan's State when they actually had pretty good quarterback play
16:02
Speaker 4: and he looked like a big time prospect. And then
16:05
Speaker 4: his last year they did not have very good quarterback
16:07
Speaker 4: play and his numbers went down, but his traits didn't
16:09
Speaker 4: go away, so he was still a second round pick.
16:12
Speaker 4: But he's he's a guy that can attack all three levels.
16:16
Speaker 4: As I recall, in that opening game in Brazil last year,
16:19
Speaker 4: he made a big play on a deep over route.
16:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, correct, and then and an end around also.
16:24
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, yeah, yeah.
16:28
Speaker 2: Right now.
16:29
Speaker 4: But he's he's a guy that that has he's a
16:31
Speaker 4: three level to Menson who can also be a factor.
16:34
Speaker 2: In your run game.
16:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, and in the motion movement game, which you know
16:38
Speaker 4: he was the guy.
16:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he was lost. He's because their offenses
16:42
Speaker 1: are very similar. He's sort of like what Deebo Samuel
16:45
Speaker 1: was to Kyle Shanahan in the forty offense.
16:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, obviously not as big, but you're not going to
16:51
Speaker 4: line him up and run him inside. But yes, yes,
16:54
Speaker 4: but you're right in terms of in terms of formation deployment. Yes,
16:58
Speaker 4: that's a very fair statement.
17:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think that they're different without him. So
17:02
Speaker 1: it's uh and they've had to make do without him,
17:04
Speaker 1: and he's not gonna be back for a little bit.
17:06
Speaker 1: He had two He had a Jones fracture and a
17:10
Speaker 1: broken clavicle, and I think they they did the surgeries
17:13
Speaker 1: at the same time. I don't know if it was
17:15
Speaker 1: like at the exact same time, which would be funny
17:18
Speaker 1: if not funny, but.
17:19
Speaker 4: I wonder if it was on the same side of
17:21
Speaker 4: his body. You know, it at your point popped into
17:24
Speaker 4: my head when.
17:24
Speaker 2: I was in was it high school?
17:27
Speaker 4: I can't remember, but I actually tore ligaments in one
17:32
Speaker 4: ankle and fractured a bone in my wrist on the
17:35
Speaker 4: other on the other side. So I had like a
17:38
Speaker 4: like a left let's say it was left ankle, torn
17:40
Speaker 4: ligaments and a bone fracture in my right hand.
17:43
Speaker 3: Was a base baseball or basketball basketball basketball hoops? Really
17:47
Speaker 3: do you remember the in like how it happened?
17:48
Speaker 4: Well, you know, when you have a forty three inch Verneico.
17:51
Speaker 3: Really things happens, not going against any Grunfeld.
17:58
Speaker 2: I did go against any Grunfeld. But he did a
18:01
Speaker 2: little better than I did in that game.
18:03
Speaker 1: All right, good stuff. So how about defense, Adam. We
18:06
Speaker 1: know Lucas, yeahs has been a little banged up.
18:09
Speaker 3: Yeah he doesn't even start. But you know, here's what
18:11
Speaker 3: happened with him is he's a victim of a scheme change.
18:13
Speaker 3: They drafted him for the thirty four front. They fired
18:15
Speaker 3: Joe Barry. Yeah, athlete comes in with a forty three.
18:18
Speaker 3: He didn't have a role. I mean he's a backup,
18:20
Speaker 3: but yeah, he didn't have much of role. But the
18:22
Speaker 3: big one is Nate Hobbs. Nate Hobbs, they signed a
18:25
Speaker 3: big free agent deal. Rec could get into what it's
18:27
Speaker 3: looked like for him, but he's hurt a lot, good player, versatile,
18:31
Speaker 3: but he's got a knee issue which he's had off
18:33
Speaker 3: and on the season. They got this one will probably
18:36
Speaker 3: go down to Monday.
18:37
Speaker 2: Oh so he may not go.
18:39
Speaker 3: Huh, it's not given. Yeah, he's had this lique Well.
18:41
Speaker 4: I mean if he doesn't go, what they'll do is
18:43
Speaker 4: they'll play Bullard in the slot, which by the way
18:46
Speaker 4: they down the stretch last week on the final drive
18:49
Speaker 4: by the Panthers, which was obviously the game, Bullard was
18:52
Speaker 4: the slot player and Hobbs was not on the field
18:55
Speaker 4: because they had Valentine and Nixon playing outside with Bullard
18:59
Speaker 4: in the slot. So again, maybe it was the injury.
19:02
Speaker 4: Maybe he's not one hundred percent, you know, as you
19:06
Speaker 4: had the case.
19:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, he only played nineteen snaps, so yeah, that's kinds true.
19:12
Speaker 3: They're not paying him to.
19:13
Speaker 1: Play the nineteen I thought Bullard looked pretty good last
19:16
Speaker 1: year playing that that role. Then you have to play
19:18
Speaker 1: the nickel quite a bit last year.
19:19
Speaker 4: But is an interesting guy because his final two years
19:22
Speaker 4: at Georgia and he was considered a good prospect coming out.
19:25
Speaker 4: He played one year he was a slot, the next
19:27
Speaker 4: year he was a safety. So he had major experience
19:30
Speaker 4: in college playing both positions.
19:33
Speaker 1: All right, let's get in. Those are all the major injuries,
19:36
Speaker 1: and again we'll have everything updated as much as we
19:38
Speaker 1: possibly can. Let's talk about this Eagles offense against the
19:42
Speaker 1: Packers defense. So the Eagles offense has been very strange
19:46
Speaker 1: this year. I mean, if you look at the overall rankings,
19:48
Speaker 1: you would think that they're not very good. I mean
19:50
Speaker 1: twenty fourth total. I think twenty nineteenth rushing, which is
19:54
Speaker 1: you know, obviously down from being number one last year.
19:58
Speaker 1: Twenty fourth passing, and the thing we've talked about lot
20:01
Speaker 1: twenty eighth overall on third down, and yet they've scored
20:06
Speaker 1: a lot of points. Their their points per game is
20:09
Speaker 1: top I want to say eleven or twelve, three, four, five, six, seven.
20:13
Speaker 1: I'm sorry, tenth because they're very shot play reliant and
20:18
Speaker 1: it seems to work for them.
20:19
Speaker 4: Greg, Yeah, no, they they It's been an odd offense
20:23
Speaker 4: because there hasn't been a lot of consistency. They've had moments,
20:27
Speaker 4: but there hasn't been a lot of consistency where you
20:30
Speaker 4: feel like they're just sustaining and establishing and then working
20:34
Speaker 4: down the field. But yes, they've had had some big plays.
20:39
Speaker 2: It's you know, just.
20:41
Speaker 4: Like you asked me at the beginning about the Packers
20:43
Speaker 4: last week, and you know, in their game, which was
20:45
Speaker 4: an odd game. The Eagles offense for the most part
20:47
Speaker 4: has been kind of odd because you know, Jalen Hurts
20:52
Speaker 4: has a very high completion percentage this year, and he
20:56
Speaker 4: does go down the field at times, but there's all
21:00
Speaker 4: have been a lot of short passes, you know, those
21:02
Speaker 4: sort of RPO type passes, and that's foundationally something that
21:07
Speaker 4: they do. But it's it's the pass game has been
21:12
Speaker 4: more flashy than consistent.
21:16
Speaker 1: I thought, Adam that if they ever got their run
21:18
Speaker 1: game going, you would see that a widespread impact on
21:22
Speaker 1: the offense. Other things would get better as well. They
21:24
Speaker 1: got their run game going against the Giants in a
21:27
Speaker 1: way that was an unbelievable breakout. Yeah, but yet still
21:30
Speaker 1: on third down they were two of eight twenty five percent.
21:33
Speaker 1: They continue to be really bad. Now, I get it.
21:36
Speaker 1: They make up for it sometimes on fourth down two
21:38
Speaker 1: for two in that game, but you know, living at
21:41
Speaker 1: fourth worst or fifth worst in the league on third
21:43
Speaker 1: down is not where they want to be.
21:44
Speaker 3: You know, aj Brown didn't play in that game, and yeah,
21:47
Speaker 3: certainly that was a factor. Sure, but look, you have
21:50
Speaker 3: the Dots in play, which is incredible. I mean, the
21:52
Speaker 3: effort Dots had made was terrific for the touchdown. I mean,
21:55
Speaker 3: Godard had the short area play which was big. I mean,
21:59
Speaker 3: Hurts was a fish as hell out fifteen to twenty
22:01
Speaker 3: four for four touchdowns probably fo one hundred and seventy
22:04
Speaker 3: nine yards. So again, every once in a while, deeplay
22:07
Speaker 3: accurate as hack. You love it, but they they're looking
22:10
Speaker 3: for more. But the bottom line is when it works,
22:12
Speaker 3: like you said, Jeff, like last year, Barkley just crushed them.
22:15
Speaker 3: It was just never a game. So you didn't need
22:17
Speaker 3: any passing tempo because they didn't throw the football, right.
22:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean they've been successful for the most part
22:22
Speaker 4: when they've gone deep down the field, and then Hurts
22:25
Speaker 4: has been successful. He's a very good deep ball thrower.
22:28
Speaker 4: That's a clear strength of his game. But that's not
22:30
Speaker 4: the way you live in a passing game. But yet
22:33
Speaker 4: it works for them at times. You know, before we
22:38
Speaker 4: started talking, I told you that'stad about that. Jalen Hurts
22:41
Speaker 4: has thrown deep passes of twenty plus are yards on
22:44
Speaker 4: sixteen point three of his total attempts, which is the
22:47
Speaker 4: highest rate in the NFL. But also keep in mind
22:50
Speaker 4: he's closer to the bottom of the league in total attempts,
22:53
Speaker 4: so it's an odd mix there. You know, they don't
22:56
Speaker 4: really throw a lot relative to other teams.
23:00
Speaker 3: And Jeff, in this game, if Barkley's running well, you're
23:03
Speaker 3: going to see low past attempts. Because Greg said this
23:06
Speaker 3: is their template and foundation. It starts with a run game.
23:09
Speaker 3: And the funny thing is Hurts really is not a
23:10
Speaker 3: part of it like he was in the years past.
23:12
Speaker 3: That's the bizarreness of the season. It's like, how are
23:15
Speaker 3: they six and two with some of their staples not working?
23:19
Speaker 3: Their defense is clearly not as good as last year,
23:21
Speaker 3: that's obvious, but yet they're six and two. How well
23:24
Speaker 3: they are?
23:25
Speaker 1: The point is that at them? Yeah exactly, Yeah, there
23:28
Speaker 1: you go, Yeah, there you go six times. What you're
23:32
Speaker 1: gonna say, Greg.
23:33
Speaker 4: No, I mean, that's it's been an odd season, but
23:36
Speaker 4: I mean, hey, you have to win the games. Look,
23:38
Speaker 4: they beat the Rams when they blocked the field goal.
23:40
Speaker 4: Then they started Was it the Bucks game where they
23:42
Speaker 4: started with a block punt? Was that the game they
23:44
Speaker 4: started with a block punt?
23:45
Speaker 3: Yeah?
23:46
Speaker 4: I mean they've had those kinds of plays and so
23:49
Speaker 4: so of course, when you have those kinds of plays,
23:51
Speaker 4: people say things like, well they just know how to win,
23:53
Speaker 4: you know, I don't know what that means. But the
23:56
Speaker 4: point is is that's one reason why they they won
23:59
Speaker 4: game that maybe they shouldn't have. I mean, if they
24:03
Speaker 4: were five and three, now, if if they did and
24:05
Speaker 4: of course they did block the field goal. I understand that.
24:07
Speaker 4: But let's say they didn't and that's good. You know,
24:10
Speaker 4: then people would say, oh, the Eagles are you know,
24:12
Speaker 4: they're they're still not quite where they need to be.
24:14
Speaker 4: And I think that the coaching staff should probably still
24:16
Speaker 4: be saying that in the building. But yet they are
24:19
Speaker 4: sticking two.
24:20
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So Dallas Goddard has been a really big
24:23
Speaker 1: part of the offense from a touchdowns at red zone standpoint.
24:25
Speaker 1: We talked about that in the bye week. Do you
24:28
Speaker 1: see him right now? Greg, as if they're going to
24:31
Speaker 1: fix this third down offense, it probably is gonna start
24:34
Speaker 1: with him.
24:36
Speaker 2: That's a great question.
24:37
Speaker 4: You know, They're not really to me a team that
24:42
Speaker 4: has a great foundation in the past game on third
24:45
Speaker 4: down where you feel like, Okay, this is what they're
24:47
Speaker 4: gonna do and it you know, and it and it works,
24:50
Speaker 4: you know. But like you watch certain teams and I know, hey,
24:53
Speaker 4: i'm third down.
24:54
Speaker 2: You're going to see this. Yeah, I don't feel.
24:57
Speaker 4: Like the Eagles are that way. And don't forget a
24:59
Speaker 4: lot of his touch downs. Look, the idea is to
25:01
Speaker 4: score in the red zone. So I'm not gonna use
25:03
Speaker 4: the word gimmick, but they have designed specific red zone plays.
25:06
Speaker 4: That's good coaching, you know, But I mean those are
25:09
Speaker 4: not plays you're gonna run in the middle of the
25:10
Speaker 4: field right third down, you know. So it's it's that's
25:14
Speaker 4: a hard question to answer.
25:15
Speaker 1: I think you just hit it on the head.
25:17
Speaker 2: Though.
25:17
Speaker 1: It feels like if it's third and seven, they're either
25:19
Speaker 1: gonna drop back and Joe and Hurt's gonna find somebody
25:21
Speaker 1: for twenty five yards or he's gonna take a sack,
25:24
Speaker 1: They're gonna punt and then just live right. The other day,
25:26
Speaker 1: that just feels like what it's gonna be.
25:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Oh go ahead, Adam, you know it's
25:32
Speaker 4: gonna say.
25:32
Speaker 3: Think about it. The last game for the bye, they
25:34
Speaker 3: score thirty eight points. They were two of atal third down,
25:37
Speaker 3: Like that doesn't really compute, Like, how does that happen? Yeah,
25:40
Speaker 3: it's just it's it's it's been But yet you see
25:44
Speaker 3: Greg talking about the splash plays. We he goes for
25:47
Speaker 3: the first time this season. They got Barkley going right
25:50
Speaker 3: mm hm, Brett to play out of his mind. See,
25:53
Speaker 3: that's also part of it. That one thing I want
25:55
Speaker 3: to mention, because they worked off for the run game.
25:59
Speaker 3: That's what happened last season, not that they have a
26:01
Speaker 3: great pass game, but they had plenty of times where
26:03
Speaker 3: they worked off the run game. They'll be able to
26:05
Speaker 3: work on it because it's been awful until the last game.
26:08
Speaker 3: Now you go against the Green Bay team, will see
26:10
Speaker 3: how they stop the run because you know what's coming.
26:13
Speaker 3: But if aj Brown's playing, unless he has a setback,
26:15
Speaker 3: he's going to play.
26:16
Speaker 2: Got it.
26:17
Speaker 3: You mentioned Goddard DeVante Smith has had a fight, really
26:21
Speaker 3: a great season so far. The Eagles have a lot
26:23
Speaker 3: going for them against the defense. Where you so what
26:25
Speaker 3: happened against Dallas, Jeff, They at a lot of a
26:30
Speaker 3: lot of yards in that game.
26:31
Speaker 4: Just one final point, Chef, I don't think you can
26:33
Speaker 4: discount the fact that they never turned the ball over
26:36
Speaker 4: because even though their defense statistically isn't as good as
26:39
Speaker 4: last year, and maybe it's not overall on tape, which
26:42
Speaker 4: it probably isn't, although I think there's some real positives,
26:47
Speaker 4: the fact is is that they rarely ever play defense
26:50
Speaker 4: with a short field. The other team has to go
26:53
Speaker 4: seventy eighty ninety yards. That's hard to do in this league.
26:58
Speaker 4: So you know it's they still have sort of a
27:02
Speaker 4: formula that works.
27:03
Speaker 2: Because we can argue that.
27:06
Speaker 4: Unless he's truly taking a deep shot, which they do
27:09
Speaker 4: and they do well. That hurts is a little bit
27:12
Speaker 4: of a risk averse quarterback. You know, he's not sticking,
27:15
Speaker 4: you know, dig balls into tight windows. That's not his game.
27:18
Speaker 4: It really has never been. So unless he's really taking
27:22
Speaker 4: a deep shot, they don't really push it down the field.
27:25
Speaker 3: But they do take those deep shots.
27:29
Speaker 4: So therefore, if they don't, like you said, let's say
27:31
Speaker 4: he takes a sack on third down, so they punt.
27:34
Speaker 2: And the other team has to go eighty yards. You
27:36
Speaker 2: know that's.
27:37
Speaker 1: Perfectly comfortable that yeah. Yeah, let's talk about the Packers
27:42
Speaker 1: defense then yep. So are they still foundationally Cover one,
27:46
Speaker 1: Cover three with Halfley as he does, he blitz a lot,
27:49
Speaker 1: and how are they using Mica Parsons.
27:52
Speaker 4: Well, this season they've been more of a single high
27:54
Speaker 4: safety defense than a two high safety defense. I would
27:57
Speaker 4: say Cover three and Cover one have been their foundations,
27:59
Speaker 4: but they do play a lot of Cover two depending
28:01
Speaker 4: on situation. So third down though, they are a predominant
28:07
Speaker 4: Cover one and Cover two defense. That's what they play
28:09
Speaker 4: predominantly on third down. They've not really been a high
28:13
Speaker 4: percentage blitz defense on third down there. They're not one
28:16
Speaker 4: of those defenses that just gets after you. They rely
28:19
Speaker 4: on their four man d line rush.
28:21
Speaker 2: But Idrian Cooper, if.
28:23
Speaker 4: They do blitz, he's a very good blitzer. That was
28:25
Speaker 4: the strength of his coming out from Texas A and M's.
28:28
Speaker 4: He's an explosive athlete, he's got a quick trigger. He's
28:31
Speaker 4: a good blitzer. Parsons is being used in many ways
28:35
Speaker 4: the same he was used in Dallas where they line
28:38
Speaker 4: up obviously predominantly as an edge player, but when you
28:42
Speaker 4: get the third down or pure pass situations, he could
28:45
Speaker 4: be a three technique. He could be a stand up joker.
28:47
Speaker 4: He could they move him all around on third down.
28:50
Speaker 4: They look for matchups, and they'll do that in this
28:53
Speaker 4: game for sure, because I think they'll try to match
28:56
Speaker 4: him up both on Steen, any of the three inside
29:00
Speaker 4: guy Steen, Toff and Dickerson. I think you'll see that
29:04
Speaker 4: for sure. And what they'll do with that is they'll
29:07
Speaker 4: line up in a five man front so that they
29:09
Speaker 4: dictate what we call five to zero protection, so it's
29:12
Speaker 4: one on one protection, so that he can't be helped
29:16
Speaker 4: by someone else.
29:17
Speaker 2: Right.
29:19
Speaker 1: I remember in the wild card game, if you guys
29:21
Speaker 1: remember that, they were conservative to begin with, and then
29:26
Speaker 1: the yes, yes, the Packers. The Eagles move the ball
29:30
Speaker 1: pretty well in the first quarter, and then sometime in
29:32
Speaker 1: the mid second quarter he even threw a couple of zeros,
29:35
Speaker 1: which I don't think athlete does. He started to ratchet
29:38
Speaker 1: up the pressure, not a ton, but when he got
29:41
Speaker 1: them on third down, he changed his philosophy to start
29:44
Speaker 1: to pressure more and it worked at times. It wasn't
29:47
Speaker 1: a ton, but there were just enough exotic ones and
29:50
Speaker 1: some zeros that it sort of remember they went the
29:53
Speaker 1: Eagles went through a lull until that Dallas Goddard touchdown
29:56
Speaker 1: kind of got him back on track.
29:58
Speaker 2: Right now. That was at the the Wildcard Game.
30:01
Speaker 1: That was the Wildcard Game.
30:02
Speaker 2: It was the Wildcard Game.
30:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So it'll be interesting to see with Michael
30:06
Speaker 1: Parsons now, does he try to go the four man
30:10
Speaker 1: rush route again, get creative there, or does he think
30:14
Speaker 1: based on what he's seen from the Eagles this year,
30:16
Speaker 1: because teams have had some interesting ways of pressuring the
30:20
Speaker 1: Eagles to begin with and then dropping in the second half.
30:23
Speaker 1: So the Bucks do it, so the Rams do it.
30:25
Speaker 1: It'd be interesting to see if he feels like he's
30:27
Speaker 1: got to mix it up as the game goes on.
30:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, now you know that game, By the way, the
30:33
Speaker 4: Eagles offense wasn't what was not very good. I mean
30:36
Speaker 4: they they were two for eleven on third down in
30:39
Speaker 4: that game, and they were only one for four in
30:41
Speaker 4: red zone touchdown efficiency.
30:43
Speaker 1: Right, and again you get the big touchdown and really
30:45
Speaker 1: the touchdown of god, it was a lateral pass that
30:48
Speaker 1: he broke the well, he stiff armed the same guy
30:50
Speaker 1: I think was Carrington Valentine.
30:54
Speaker 2: Is that his name, Yes, Carrington Valentine.
30:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, he's stiff farmed him three different times on the
30:58
Speaker 1: way into the end zone on that on that pass.
31:00
Speaker 1: But it was a good if you remember they were
31:02
Speaker 1: showing zero and he checked out of it and threw
31:05
Speaker 1: a swing pass and bam off got it was off
31:07
Speaker 1: to the races. So it was a good little cat
31:09
Speaker 1: and mouse going on there.
31:10
Speaker 2: Great.
31:11
Speaker 4: I mean, they didn't really have a whole lot in
31:13
Speaker 4: terms of the pass game. I remember Smith had had
31:16
Speaker 4: a close to a thirty yarder at some point, which
31:18
Speaker 4: I thought was probably.
31:19
Speaker 2: Their best designed to play. Yeah, you know, but.
31:24
Speaker 1: Is that the game they had. The opening kickoff was
31:26
Speaker 1: a fumble recovery that Aaron Brooks caused the fumble and
31:30
Speaker 1: they got the ball deep in Packers territory, right to stuff.
31:33
Speaker 1: I think that was I do. I think Oron Brooks
31:35
Speaker 1: caused a fumble on the opening kickoff and they were
31:38
Speaker 1: able to kind of get in motion right away.
31:41
Speaker 4: But you know, they played at a no huddle in
31:42
Speaker 4: that game. Yeah, and which they did a lot more
31:45
Speaker 4: last year than they're doing this year. That was a game,
31:49
Speaker 4: as I recall, where they I didn't think their their
31:51
Speaker 4: old line was great in pass protection in that game.
31:54
Speaker 2: That was.
31:54
Speaker 4: That was an odd game for the Eagles given the
31:56
Speaker 4: way they played during the season, and.
31:59
Speaker 3: Yet one I mean again they won, you know, speak
32:03
Speaker 3: yeah they did, but it was a low score. But
32:05
Speaker 3: speaking of that, Shaun Gary has seven and a half sacks,
32:08
Speaker 3: a lot of quarterback pressures sacks and five games. Do
32:12
Speaker 3: the numbers reflect the tape house he played the season?
32:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, well he's played well. I mean they're a good defense.
32:18
Speaker 4: I mean they've got pretty good players, you know, now
32:20
Speaker 4: that they have Parsons, they have Gary, Gary's you know,
32:22
Speaker 4: Gary's turned into a really good player. I mean maybe
32:24
Speaker 4: he's not Miles Garrett, you know, but he's a really
32:27
Speaker 4: solid player. And DeVante Wyatt has really come on. This
32:30
Speaker 4: is his fourth year. He started to really come on
32:33
Speaker 4: last year. Brooks is a solid player you mentioned that
32:37
Speaker 4: would and could be out this week, Adam, Yeah, yeah, possible.
32:40
Speaker 2: Yeah.
32:41
Speaker 4: I mean they have Stackhouse, who's a kid from Georgia
32:43
Speaker 4: who's kind of a strong inside run stuffer type. They
32:47
Speaker 4: have a kid from Texas whose tape I really like,
32:51
Speaker 4: named Baron Serell, who Scott kind of got lost in
32:54
Speaker 4: the mix of Texas because they always have so many
32:56
Speaker 4: good defensive players. He was a fourth round pick. He
32:59
Speaker 4: gets meaningful snat apps. They they've got a lot of
33:02
Speaker 4: guys that they can put out there.
33:03
Speaker 2: Yeah wow.
33:05
Speaker 4: For a number of years he plays meaningful snaps.
33:11
Speaker 3: Ann Bari is he's like one of the He still
33:13
Speaker 3: gets a decent amount of snaps right Oh yeah yeah
33:16
Speaker 3: and Bari Yeah wow. They're loaded, Jeff. Their their rotation
33:19
Speaker 3: is super deep.
33:20
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, super deep.
33:22
Speaker 1: I mean their only loss that well not lost was
33:25
Speaker 1: a tie. The only time where you look at and say,
33:27
Speaker 1: how did what happened there was giving forty to the Cowboys,
33:29
Speaker 1: but even losing into the Browns and the Panther. It's
33:31
Speaker 1: not like those two teams scored a whole lot of points.
33:33
Speaker 2: It's just right. Just their defense is solid.
33:36
Speaker 4: You know, people are gonna look at the corners Nixon
33:39
Speaker 4: and and I like Nixon a lot.
33:41
Speaker 2: Now.
33:41
Speaker 4: Is he a top five six corner in the league. No,
33:43
Speaker 4: but he's a good football player.
33:45
Speaker 2: You know.
33:46
Speaker 4: The other side is where you're going to feel like
33:47
Speaker 4: you can do some things with Carrington Valentine and certainly
33:50
Speaker 4: if Nate Hobbs is out, you're going to see Valentine
33:53
Speaker 4: for sure play pretty much every snap and Buller will
33:56
Speaker 4: be the slot. Their safeties are very good, by the way.
34:00
Speaker 4: You know, McKinney's a really good player. Evan Williams. Evan
34:04
Speaker 4: Williams is one of those guys that I always feel
34:06
Speaker 4: good about because he came out of Oregon. He was
34:08
Speaker 4: a transfer, played one year at Oregon. Loved his tape
34:11
Speaker 4: at Oregon. Thought he'd be a really solid NFL starter.
34:14
Speaker 4: Ends up being a fourth round pick. No one talked
34:16
Speaker 4: about him because he wasn't, you know, one of those guys.
34:19
Speaker 4: And he's become a starter pretty much. He became a
34:21
Speaker 4: starter as a rookie. And he's a good player, savvy, smart,
34:25
Speaker 4: not not a great athlete, but just a really good player,
34:29
Speaker 4: probably their version of a blanket hip type player, you know,
34:32
Speaker 4: really just a smart, savvy player, whereas McKinny.
34:35
Speaker 2: McKinney can do anything.
34:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, Jeff, when the Packers play the Cowboys, pickets got
34:41
Speaker 3: them badly. I mean he from the outside, on the outside.
34:45
Speaker 1: Yeah.
34:45
Speaker 2: Yeah.
34:45
Speaker 3: And that's the thing where Aj Brown, with the way
34:48
Speaker 3: that he plays, Jeff shot play time. So I mentioned
34:51
Speaker 3: this more a couple times about when we talk about
34:54
Speaker 3: the Packers the season, you could throw against him. That's
34:55
Speaker 3: the one area they're decent. But they're not. It's not like,
34:58
Speaker 3: oh my god, you're you're worried about them. This is
35:01
Speaker 3: this to me in.
35:02
Speaker 4: What we'll talk about. I could see the Eagles, and
35:04
Speaker 4: I agree with Adam. I think he makes a great point.
35:06
Speaker 4: I could see the Eagles coming out early and taking
35:09
Speaker 4: some shots with Aj Brown, Yeah, feeling like, hey, if
35:11
Speaker 4: we can get ahead, not that being ahead seven nothing
35:14
Speaker 4: or fourteen, you know, means the game's over. But you
35:17
Speaker 4: know how that works. If you when a team gets
35:19
Speaker 4: ahead early, let's say it's two scores, you know, you'll
35:21
Speaker 4: hear everybody say, oh, you don't have to change your
35:24
Speaker 4: game plan. But it's just a whole different vibe. You know,
35:27
Speaker 4: all of a sudden, it's fourteen to three and it's
35:29
Speaker 4: early second quarter. Yet is the game over? Of course not,
35:32
Speaker 4: but it's different. It's different than if it's six six
35:35
Speaker 4: or seven six. It's just a whole different feel to
35:38
Speaker 4: the game.
35:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. All right, let's flip it. Let's talk about
35:42
Speaker 1: this Eagles defense against the Packers offense. Jordan Love. You know,
35:46
Speaker 1: we talked about this last week on Inside the Tape.
35:48
Speaker 1: He was a guy at one point last year in
35:50
Speaker 1: his first eight games he had eleven interceptions and then
35:52
Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it seemed like the light switch flicked.
35:57
Speaker 1: And then over the last however many games he had
36:00
Speaker 1: no interceptions until he had three against the Eagles in
36:02
Speaker 1: the playoffs. And again this year just three interceptions and
36:06
Speaker 1: I think one hundred and seventy seven pass attempts. So Graig,
36:09
Speaker 1: he is not that guy that he was at the
36:11
Speaker 1: start of last year. As far as taking of the football.
36:14
Speaker 2: No, and he threw.
36:16
Speaker 4: You know, he did have the the one bad pass
36:19
Speaker 4: last week that was intercepted, you know, one of his
36:22
Speaker 4: reckless throws, which he doesn't do.
36:26
Speaker 2: Very often.
36:26
Speaker 4: Now he's a much more controlled, calculated player, and I
36:30
Speaker 4: think a lot of that now in this game could
36:32
Speaker 4: well be a function of who the receivers are. I mean,
36:36
Speaker 4: you know, we don't know who they're going to put
36:37
Speaker 4: out there. Golden I think becomes a really important player
36:40
Speaker 4: in this game if he can go, because he does
36:42
Speaker 4: have speed and I think he's a good player. But
36:45
Speaker 4: Love has really become kind of a controlled player for
36:48
Speaker 4: the most part. Now, we all know Matt Lafleur wants
36:51
Speaker 4: the offense to be balanced. He's not a throwball quarterback
36:55
Speaker 4: unless the game demands it. I mean, obviously the Cowboys
36:58
Speaker 4: game against a bad defense, it was a different kind
37:00
Speaker 4: of game. This game is not going to be forty
37:03
Speaker 4: to forty. So, you know, I think with Love. You know,
37:07
Speaker 4: it's funny because last week and then the one bad pick,
37:10
Speaker 4: his numbers were solid. You know, he just he's he's
37:14
Speaker 4: sort of settled into being just a quality NFL quarterback
37:17
Speaker 4: who still has high level traits and can make big
37:19
Speaker 4: time throws.
37:20
Speaker 1: Right right the offensive line. Yeah, they're going to face
37:25
Speaker 1: a new look Eagles pass rush Jayalen Phillips were going
37:29
Speaker 1: to see for the first time. I know they've had
37:30
Speaker 1: some movement, right and first of all, I guess elk
37:33
Speaker 1: Elton Jenkins is back at center. I know he's played
37:35
Speaker 1: garden tackle. Did their first round pick from a couple
37:38
Speaker 1: of years ago? Does he not start for them?
37:40
Speaker 4: Jordan started to right guard, and he's he's the weakness
37:45
Speaker 4: in one on one pass protection.
37:47
Speaker 3: Okay, if he was a tackle.
37:49
Speaker 2: In college, they moved him to guard.
37:52
Speaker 4: He's been a little bit of a weakness in one
37:54
Speaker 4: on one pass bro, but other than that, it's it's
37:57
Speaker 4: they got Rashid de Walker, you know, you know him,
37:59
Speaker 4: the Pens State kid. They got Zach tom who's a
38:02
Speaker 4: very good right tackle. Jenkins is a solid player. Banks
38:06
Speaker 4: is a solid left guard. Morgan is the guy that
38:08
Speaker 4: you can kind of go after in one on one.
38:10
Speaker 4: So the issue is because that's that's where Carter's gonna
38:14
Speaker 4: line up. So you know that they're going to deal
38:16
Speaker 4: with that in pass pro. They're going to slide Jenkins
38:19
Speaker 4: to him. So now we'll see what vic Vangeo does
38:22
Speaker 4: because that's what's going to happen.
38:23
Speaker 1: Right and now we're going to get our first look
38:25
Speaker 1: at Jaylen Phillips. I mean, he's gonna line up now.
38:27
Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see he rushed over left tackle. Correct.
38:31
Speaker 4: When he was with the Dolphins, Jalen Phillips lined up, No,
38:36
Speaker 4: he lined up over the right tax.
38:40
Speaker 1: He lined up on the left side over right up
38:41
Speaker 1: on the.
38:42
Speaker 4: Left side of the defense, not the right side, Okay,
38:44
Speaker 4: but they moved him around, but predominantly lined up on
38:47
Speaker 4: the left side of the defense right.
38:48
Speaker 1: So it'll be interesting to see where the Eagles rush him,
38:52
Speaker 1: where Hunt is going to rush from, if Nolan Smith
38:55
Speaker 1: is able to play, if he where he rushes from too.
38:57
Speaker 1: So they've got some some options here. But I'm curious
39:00
Speaker 1: to see if we're going to see a different Jalen
39:03
Speaker 1: Phillips with the Giant with with the Eagles, because he's
39:08
Speaker 1: maybe not be his double teams or may not be.
39:11
Speaker 4: He'll be rejuvenated because he'll be excited to be You're
39:13
Speaker 4: coming from Miami.
39:14
Speaker 1: Oh y, yeah, oh he is.
39:16
Speaker 2: His quote? What did he say, Jeff?
39:18
Speaker 1: He said it was literally the greatest thing that happened
39:20
Speaker 1: to him in his life.
39:23
Speaker 3: That's about its strong SATs really.
39:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well he's yeah, he's They could move him around,
39:30
Speaker 4: but I mean he's he predominantly lines up. Just to
39:35
Speaker 4: give you an example, he's played. I just looked it up
39:39
Speaker 4: two hundred and ninety eight snaps lining up on the
39:41
Speaker 4: left side and only let's see on the right side
39:47
Speaker 4: sixty six.
39:48
Speaker 1: Got it? So he lines up across right tackle. That'll
39:50
Speaker 1: be interesting.
39:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, And so.
39:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, Zach Tom, who's a pretty good, pretty good story
39:56
Speaker 1: for them, Zach Tom. They're right tackle, right.
39:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. He's a good player, yeah, the Tom, Zach. Yes.
40:02
Speaker 1: And obviously a big mystery coming out of the by
40:06
Speaker 1: is the rotation that we're going to see at off
40:09
Speaker 1: ball linebacker between n Kobe Dean and John Campbell against
40:15
Speaker 1: a team Greg that uses a lot of motion. As
40:17
Speaker 1: you said, now, I want to ask you they have
40:21
Speaker 1: not run the ball as effectively this year as they
40:23
Speaker 1: did last year.
40:24
Speaker 2: They have not.
40:25
Speaker 1: I know that Josh Jacobs has been dealing with an ankle,
40:28
Speaker 1: but he's been playing. But is there anything you're seeing
40:30
Speaker 1: and just how they're blocking it up or up front
40:32
Speaker 1: that they have not been as effective?
40:35
Speaker 4: I mean, he hasn't had as much room, clearly. I mean,
40:38
Speaker 4: he's been hit a lot at the first level, and.
40:41
Speaker 2: He's a hard runner, but if you're.
40:43
Speaker 4: Hit a lot at the first level, it's it's just
40:45
Speaker 4: hard to get going.
40:46
Speaker 2: Yeah.
40:47
Speaker 4: You know, he's a physical back, he's a strong back.
40:50
Speaker 4: He's a guy you got to get a lot of
40:52
Speaker 4: bodies too.
40:53
Speaker 2: You know. They do use him in the past game.
40:56
Speaker 4: And they've got another back name Emmanuel Wilson, who's actually
40:59
Speaker 4: a pretty intriguing player in the context of their offense.
41:02
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's taken them from Marshahn Lloyd and basically
41:04
Speaker 3: he's not going to play for two seasons. I mean
41:06
Speaker 3: that's yeah, unfortunate, but that's the reality of it. Yeah,
41:09
Speaker 3: this is Jeff dis matchups intriguing because all the new players, right, Phillips.
41:13
Speaker 3: I was thinking about this earlier this week. As much
41:16
Speaker 3: as Josh Sweat offered you and versatility, you take Phillips.
41:20
Speaker 3: He's he's the next level because he's a better pass rusher.
41:22
Speaker 3: He's got the ideal length. I mean Sweaty Sweaty was
41:25
Speaker 3: obviously very long, but Phillips is two fifty five to sixty.
41:29
Speaker 3: Jeff and Greg told us last week after the trade
41:32
Speaker 3: when we did the tape show, he looks really good.
41:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, so here you go.
41:37
Speaker 3: He's back with Vic and this is what they've been missing.
41:40
Speaker 3: He'll be reduvenated for sure. Yeah, I mean he's This
41:44
Speaker 3: is a big deal to get Phillips if he looks.
41:47
Speaker 4: Look, he's a young kid, he's twenty six. Okay, Now,
41:51
Speaker 4: granted he's had some injuries, but let's assume he's okay.
41:53
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, we're not doctors. We don't know
41:55
Speaker 4: how right, Assume he's fine. I mean, and he is
42:00
Speaker 4: a big time edge player in this league. I mean,
42:03
Speaker 4: you know, you don't hear his name mentioned a lot.
42:05
Speaker 4: Obviously was hurt. Miami's become kind of a bad team now.
42:08
Speaker 4: But he's a really talented guy. If he plays at
42:12
Speaker 4: a high level, you've got something here. This is a
42:15
Speaker 4: big deal.
42:16
Speaker 2: Yeah.
42:17
Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
42:21
Speaker 1: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes
42:24
Speaker 1: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
42:28
Speaker 1: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
42:32
Speaker 1: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
42:35
Speaker 1: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
42:39

42:44
Speaker 1: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
42:47
Speaker 1: walk in Plus, they carry only the best quality cannabis

42:54

Speaker 1: you know you're getting the goods stuff without overpaying. They
43:02
Speaker 1: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
43:06
Speaker 1: service members, and healthcare pros camed inn Apothecary, top quality cannabis,
43:12
Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
43:15
Speaker 1: one and up. Yeah, I was gonna I was gonna
43:20
Speaker 1: say that Jacobs and Barkley are gonna have a lot
43:21
Speaker 1: to talk about in the pregame as their stretch, because
43:24
Speaker 1: you know, you're talking about two guys who were had
43:26
Speaker 1: great years less year are constantly getting hit at or
43:28
Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage, So it seems like they've
43:31
Speaker 1: got some similarities there. Very curious to see also if
43:35
Speaker 1: Vic goes back to playing more coverage, less man less
43:39
Speaker 1: blitzing and what we would call that the jail and
43:42
Speaker 1: Phillips impact, is that just having him there make VIC
43:46
Speaker 1: lean more on a four man rush because I imagine
43:48
Speaker 1: that you don't want to blitz to.
43:50
Speaker 4: For me, I think the bigger issue is how they
43:51
Speaker 4: feel about stopping the run. That's the bigger issue when
43:55
Speaker 4: it comes to bringing someone down into the box.
43:57
Speaker 1: Good point.
43:58
Speaker 4: So I think that's going to be the bigger because
44:00
Speaker 4: they are playing a team that does want to run
44:03
Speaker 4: the ball, right. You know this is they're not playing
44:06
Speaker 4: a spread team that you know that just tosses it around.
44:08
Speaker 4: They're playing a team that wants to run the football.
44:11
Speaker 4: And we talked about this earlier in the week that
44:14
Speaker 4: one of the main reasons they were playing more single
44:16
Speaker 4: high this year was because of the run game dimension
44:19
Speaker 4: that they were struggling with because Milton Williams was such
44:22
Speaker 4: a big factor in that regard, and now they don't
44:26
Speaker 4: quite and with Carter's uneven season up to this point,
44:29
Speaker 4: out Hey, if Carter is truly the healthiest he's been,
44:32
Speaker 4: I guess we're going to find out. But if that's
44:34
Speaker 4: true and he can play at the more dominant level
44:38
Speaker 4: that he played a year ago versus this year, other
44:41
Speaker 4: than a few flashes, then that could change everything as well.
44:44
Speaker 3: That Jeff, one of the things that we were with
44:46
Speaker 3: Phillips's and we talked about what BG would do last year,
44:52
Speaker 3: is you could see phillips line upside in Nickel, which
44:55
Speaker 3: we've seen with BG. So Phillips gives him something. So
44:59
Speaker 3: that's the beauty of thing. So this game Monday night,
45:02
Speaker 3: we're gonna know about phil Phillips lines up, how much
45:05
Speaker 3: he lines up, and where he lines up, and then
45:08
Speaker 3: of course you've got well and we'll get to the
45:10
Speaker 3: back end with jy R. Alexander, who potentially could play. Uh,
45:14
Speaker 3: you know, he's he's healthy. He said he was, by
45:16
Speaker 3: the way. He said, it's the best he's felt since
45:17
Speaker 3: he had knee surgery last year.
45:19
Speaker 4: So I mean again, he's he's a total unknown obviously
45:22
Speaker 4: because it seems as if he hasn't played in years.
45:25
Speaker 4: But he's got a lot of traits now, I mean,
45:28
Speaker 4: if he's truly healthy, okay, and I assume he's practicing
45:31
Speaker 4: in full this week, Adam, Yes he is. So if
45:34
Speaker 4: he's practicing in full, they're gonna have a pretty good idea.
45:38
Speaker 4: They probably have it right now. They're gonna know. I mean, hey,
45:41
Speaker 4: for all we know, they could start the game and
45:43
Speaker 4: he's your corner outside of a yeah, the practice is
45:46
Speaker 4: gonna play every snap, you know, that's that.
45:48
Speaker 2: Could well be the case.
45:49
Speaker 3: But I just love he saitt in the locker room.
45:51
Speaker 3: They asked him, how do you feel this is the
45:53
Speaker 3: best I felt, not only all seasons inside my knee
45:55
Speaker 3: surgery last year. Now, well, I know for a.
45:57
Speaker 4: Fact because of uh, you know, Darius Butler is you know,
46:03
Speaker 4: he played for Chuck Pagano and Chuck's and Baltimore all
46:06
Speaker 4: front of ours for the show.
46:07
Speaker 2: Chuck loved him.
46:08
Speaker 4: Chuck loved Jarry Alexander as a person. I mean, you know,
46:11
Speaker 4: obviously he was in a tough year for whatever reason,
46:14
Speaker 4: but he loved him.
46:15
Speaker 2: Yeah.
46:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, we've been meaning to tell you it's JayR not Jarry,
46:18
Speaker 1: just letting you know. Yeah, yeah, he did. We had
46:22
Speaker 1: him on the show too. I remember he's uh Chuck.
46:25
Speaker 1: He was great because he was great when it was
46:27
Speaker 1: the Packers. Will be fascinating if you went starting for
46:30
Speaker 1: the Eagles in.
46:30
Speaker 2: The first game.
46:32
Speaker 4: Look, the Eagles is every draft choice in every trade. Great, No,
46:36
Speaker 4: but when when you trade for Jai Alexander, you're doing
46:39
Speaker 4: major due diligences. They didn't trade for him with the
46:42
Speaker 4: idea that, oh he can't play for five weeks, that
46:45
Speaker 4: that trade wasn't made for that reason.
46:47
Speaker 1: They didn't give up anything though, because it was.
46:50
Speaker 4: A still We know they know that they that what
46:55
Speaker 4: they've been playing at corner opposite Mitchell is not good
46:57
Speaker 4: enough to go where they want to go. They know
46:59
Speaker 4: that that's not I didn't profound. Maybe it's obvious, you know. Yeah,
47:05
Speaker 4: So the fact that they just made that trade, they're
47:09
Speaker 4: pretty much counting on him to be the corner opposite Mitchell. Now,
47:12
Speaker 4: whether it happens in the Monday night game, none of
47:14
Speaker 4: us can say. But that's why the trade was Me
47:17
Speaker 4: and Jeff I'm very curious.
47:19
Speaker 3: When Bennett's cleared, and could be as soon as this week,
47:22
Speaker 3: how does he factor And we're talking about je Corey
47:23
Speaker 3: and Bennett. Yeah, they gave up. Was it a fourth
47:26
Speaker 3: round pick?
47:27
Speaker 1: No, they have Thomas Booker right.
47:29
Speaker 3: Oh why did I think there was?
47:30
Speaker 1: Because he was a fourth round pick?
47:32
Speaker 2: Oh?
47:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, okay, right, Bennett, I mean guy right. Greg
47:36
Speaker 3: has talked about him, you like this tape four. He
47:39
Speaker 3: got hurt last year, He did show problems, he could run.
47:42
Speaker 3: He factors in, so they're gonna have some answers. We'll
47:45
Speaker 3: have one answer. If Alexander doesn't work out. It's the
47:49
Speaker 3: coldest of this game because if everyone's activating what we
47:51
Speaker 3: mentioned Noel Smith will have to see. But then there's
47:54
Speaker 3: the issue also of clearing out roster space. Jeff, they
47:58
Speaker 3: got two guys they're gonna when Smith and Benneckett activated,
48:02
Speaker 3: they're gonna have to make.
48:02
Speaker 2: A couple moves. Didn't they release Patrick Johnson?
48:06
Speaker 3: They did the practice squad? Yes, yeah, but they they
48:09
Speaker 3: had to have to make room for Phillips, so right
48:12
Speaker 3: and Brandon Graham also.
48:13
Speaker 1: Now, hey, I still like a good night out, but
48:16
Speaker 1: I'm not always in the mood to drink. And that's
48:19
Speaker 1: why I looked for a great alternative, and I found one.

49:44
Speaker 1: what we do best. Let's wrap it up and give
49:46
Speaker 1: our game predictions and our player of the game. We'll
49:49
Speaker 1: start with you, Greg. What's the square going to be
49:50
Speaker 1: and who's going to be the player of the game.
49:52
Speaker 4: Oh boy, you know this one. I actually thought about this.
49:58
Speaker 4: I find this game to be very hard, very hard.
50:01
Speaker 4: Great because the Packers are a good team, they're at home.
50:05
Speaker 4: I don't think the Eagles struggle was playing on the road.
50:07
Speaker 4: I don't think it's a case, oh my god, they
50:08
Speaker 4: can't go to Landbeoufield and win.
50:10
Speaker 2: I don't.
50:12
Speaker 4: I feel like the Eagles starting to get that that
50:15
Speaker 4: that groove back of playing the way they play. So
50:18
Speaker 4: I'm going to pick the Eagles, and believe it or not,
50:22
Speaker 4: I'm gonna pick Saquon Barkley to be, uh the player
50:25
Speaker 4: of the game. I just think that that's this is
50:28
Speaker 4: who they are, and I think it's going to be
50:31
Speaker 4: a really good game. I'm gonna pick twenty seven to
50:33
Speaker 4: twenty four.
50:34
Speaker 1: All right, nice, Jef Adam? Uh you just your return?
50:38
Speaker 1: Did I give the uh spread just.
50:40
Speaker 3: To Yeah, it's depending which booky looks like. It looks
50:42
Speaker 3: like it's one either way, is it okay?
50:45
Speaker 1: I thought it was the Packers two and a half
50:46
Speaker 1: last time.
50:47
Speaker 3: No, no, no, it's completely left down to one. I'm
50:52
Speaker 3: with Greg. I like the Eagles to win this game.
50:56
Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna call it twenty three twenty now.
51:01
Speaker 3: It's gonna be in the high twenties, low thirties during
51:03
Speaker 3: the game something like that. It's gonna be cold, but
51:05
Speaker 3: not windy. It's whether that's not really cold. Yeah, yeah,
51:09
Speaker 3: closure not all to win, which is not supposed to be.
51:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not one of those cold where it's no.
51:14
Speaker 3: No, I don't worry about that. And I love what
51:16
Speaker 3: Jordan Davis. I won't repeat what Jordan Davis said this
51:18
Speaker 3: week about that the weather but or Green Bay. But
51:22
Speaker 3: bottom line is the Eagles are. I agree with Greg
51:25
Speaker 3: on this point. They're coming together at the right time.
51:28
Speaker 3: I just feel like this could be Jalen Phillips could
51:31
Speaker 3: be actually being an impact player immediately. I expect him
51:34
Speaker 3: to play a lot.
51:35
Speaker 2: Why not.
51:37
Speaker 3: No, I'm not saying every snap, but I think he's
51:39
Speaker 3: gonna be a factor. But I feel like there are
51:42
Speaker 3: plays to be made here and Hurts is gonna hitch
51:45
Speaker 3: a J Brown deep. By the way, they also got
51:47
Speaker 3: the Packers in Week one last year at Brazil. AJ
51:49
Speaker 3: had a big game. Yeah, I like the Eagles in
51:52
Speaker 3: this game. I like him to win twenty three to twenty,
51:56
Speaker 3: and I'll give Hurts the player of the game. They're
51:58
Speaker 3: gonna he's gonna be impactful in this game. Greg took Barclay,
52:01
Speaker 3: so I'm gonna take Hurts in this game, all right.
52:03
Speaker 1: I also have the Eagles winning. It's clean sweep. I
52:05
Speaker 1: have'm winning twenty six to twenty. I feel like it's
52:08
Speaker 1: gonna be a very close game and then maybe they
52:10
Speaker 1: just get that last touchdown at the end to seal
52:13
Speaker 1: the deal. Could go either way. I do think I
52:16
Speaker 1: agree with you guys and that I think there'll be
52:18
Speaker 1: opportunities in the past game to strike some big plays.
52:21
Speaker 1: I'm not sure they're going to rectify the third down
52:23
Speaker 1: offense right off the bat, but they no matter whether
52:26
Speaker 1: win or lose, they still get the shot plays. And
52:29
Speaker 1: I'm gonna pick Dedvante Smith because he and Hurts have
52:31
Speaker 1: had a better connection this year than in years past.
52:34
Speaker 2: Phenomenal.
52:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously at the cornerback spot is where outside corner
52:39
Speaker 1: is where you can get the Packers. So I will
52:41
Speaker 1: pick Davante Smith as a good player.
52:44
Speaker 3: You know, it's funny if we as anyone picked him
52:46
Speaker 3: at all this year and he just does well every
52:48
Speaker 3: almost every week.
52:48
Speaker 1: I think I picked him. One of us picked him once.
52:50
Speaker 3: In more doubt me. Yeah, Oh, do you know what I.
52:53
Speaker 1: Picked him in the game where he went off. I
52:55
Speaker 1: remember I was texting you guys, Yes, Davante Smith, Oh yeah,
52:58
Speaker 1: I don't.
52:58
Speaker 3: Know how he is so damn good. He is to me,
53:03
Speaker 3: heading toward not only pro ball man, he's headed to
53:06
Speaker 3: all pro category. I mean, how good has this guy
53:08
Speaker 3: been this season?
53:09
Speaker 1: He's been fantastic. He'd probably, you know, on a team
53:11
Speaker 1: that threw the ball moar, he'd probably even be even
53:13
Speaker 1: better than that, right.
53:15
Speaker 3: But yet, but yet he's been the guy. He's actually
53:17
Speaker 3: been the guy this season, not aj Brown.
53:19
Speaker 1: So that is correct? And what was that? Do you
53:23
Speaker 1: remember me saying? And when we did our season preview
53:25
Speaker 1: in August, Adam I said, I thought DeVante Smith had
53:27
Speaker 1: a higher ceiling that he could get to if they
53:30
Speaker 1: could get him the ball more. And it looks like
53:32
Speaker 1: he's he's starting to reach that. He's got five hundred
53:35
Speaker 1: and eighty eight yards on forty four catches and he
53:37
Speaker 1: averages thirteen point four yards per reception. So a good,
53:41
Speaker 1: not a breakout year because he's already good, but a
53:43
Speaker 1: higher ceiling year for Devonte Smith. That is gonna do it,
53:47
Speaker 1: my friends. For the Inside the Birds pregame show for
53:50
Speaker 1: Greg Cosel and Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. Enjoy your football.
53:55
Speaker 1: Watch it
54:00
Speaker 5: O
