SPEAKER_00: When one of the people living on the island saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said This man must be a murderer.
0:47
SPEAKER_00: He did not die in the sea, but justice does not want him to live.
0:53
SPEAKER_00: But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and was not hurt.
0:58
SPEAKER_00: The people thought he would swell up or fall down dead.
1:04
SPEAKER_00: They waited and watched him for a long time, but nothing bad happened to him.
1:09
SPEAKER_00: So they changed their opinion.
1:12
SPEAKER_00: They said he is a god.
1:16
SPEAKER_00: There were some fields around that same area that were owned by a man named Publius, the most important Roman official on the island.
1:28
SPEAKER_00: He welcomed us into his home and was very good to us.
1:34
SPEAKER_00: We stayed in his house for three days.
1:37
SPEAKER_00: Publius's father was very sick.
1:41
SPEAKER_00: He had a fever and dysentery, but Paul went to him and prayed for him.
1:48
SPEAKER_00: He laid his hands on the man and healed him.
1:52

2:40
SPEAKER_00: We came to the city of Regium.
2:43
SPEAKER_00: The next day a wind began to blow from the southeast, so we were able to leave.
2:51
SPEAKER_00: A day later we came to the city of Purioli.
2:56
SPEAKER_00: We found some believers there who asked us to stay with them a week.
3:02
SPEAKER_00: Finally we came to Rome.
3:05
SPEAKER_00: The brothers and sisters in Rome heard about us and came out to meet us at the market of Appius and the three inns.

SPEAKER_00: Three days later Paul sent for some of the most important Jews.
3:41
SPEAKER_00: When they came together, he said My brothers and I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our fathers, but I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.
3:59
SPEAKER_00: They asked me many questions, but they could not find any reason why I should be put to death.
4:06
SPEAKER_00: So they wanted to let me go free, but the Jews there did not want that, so I had to ask to come to Rome to have my trial before Caesar.
4:18
SPEAKER_00: That doesn't mean I'm accusing my people of doing anything wrong.
4:24
SPEAKER_00: That is why I wanted to see you and talk with you.
4:28
SPEAKER_00: I am bound with this chain because I believe in the hope of Israel.
4:36
SPEAKER_00: The Jews answered Paul, we have received no letters from Judea about you.
4:42
SPEAKER_00: None of our Jewish brothers who have traveled from there brought news about you or told us anything bad about you.
4:51
SPEAKER_00: We want to hear your ideas.
4:53
SPEAKER_00: We know that people everywhere are speaking against this new group.
5:00
SPEAKER_00: Paul and the Jews chose a day for a meeting.
5:04
SPEAKER_00: On that day many more of these Jews met with Paul at his house.
5:09
SPEAKER_00: He spoke to them all day long, explaining God's kingdom to them.
5:15
SPEAKER_00: He used the law of Moses and the writings of the prophets to persuade them to believe in Jesus.
5:24
SPEAKER_00: Some of the Jews believed what he said, but others did not believe.
5:30
SPEAKER_00: They had an argument among themselves and were ready to leave.
5:35
SPEAKER_00: But Paul said one more thing to them.
5:39
SPEAKER_00: The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet.
5:45
SPEAKER_00: He said Go to this people and tell them you will listen and you will hear, but you will not understand.
5:54
SPEAKER_00: You will look and you will see, but you will not understand what you see.
6:00
SPEAKER_00: Yes, the minds of these people are now closed.
6:04
SPEAKER_00: They have ears, but they don't listen.
6:09
SPEAKER_00: They have eyes, but they refuse to see.
6:13
SPEAKER_00: If their minds were not closed, they might see with their eyes, they might hear with their ears, they might understand with their minds, and they might be turned back to me and healed.
6:27
