- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 58 — can you believe it? Lucas: I know, right? We've come a long way. Last time we covered left and right. Remember? Luna: Oh yeah! 左 and 右. I practiced turning left and right in my apartment all week. Lucas: That's the spirit. Today we're building on that — we'll learn how to say 'go straight' and 'cross the street'. Handy for getting around. Luna: Yes! I need that. Last time I tried to find a bubble tea shop, I just kept walking in circles. Lucas: Alright, first phrase: 直行. That means 'go straight'. Let's break it down. 直 means straight, 行 means walk. Together, 直行. Lucas: Listen: 直行. Say it with me. Luna: 直行. Lucas: Perfect. Now a little faster: 直行. Luna: 直行. Lucas: Got it. Now imagine someone tells you to go straight and then turn. Let's practice the word for turn: 轉彎. 轉 means turn, 彎 means curve. Listen: 轉彎. Luna: 轉彎. Lucas: Good. Now combine: 直行然後轉彎. That's 'go straight then turn'. 然後 means 'then'. Listen: 直行然後轉彎. Luna: 直行然後轉彎. Wow, that's a mouthful. Lucas: You said it well. Let's try it once more: 直行然後轉彎. Luna: 直行然後轉彎. Lucas: Excellent. Now, if you need to cross a street, you say 過馬路. 過 means cross, 馬路 means road. Listen: 過馬路. Luna: 過馬路. Lucas: Right. And if you want to ask 'where do I cross the street?' you say 喺邊度過馬路? 喺邊度 means 'where at'. Listen: 喺邊度過馬路? Luna: 喺邊度過馬路? That's useful. Lucas: Let's practice all four phrases together. Repeat after me: 直行. Luna: 直行. Lucas: 轉彎. Luna: 轉彎. Lucas: 過馬路. Luna: 過馬路. Lucas: 直行然後轉彎. Luna: 直行然後轉彎. Lucas: 喺邊度過馬路? Luna: 喺邊度過馬路? Lucas: Great job! Now let's put it in a little scene. Imagine you're on a street and someone asks you for directions. They say: 請問,去地鐵站點去? That's 'Excuse me, how do I get to the MTR station?' Luna: Oh, I can answer! 直行然後轉彎? Or maybe 過馬路? Lucas: Exactly. So you could say: 直行,然後轉左。But we'll keep it simple today. Just say 直行然後轉彎. Luna: 直行然後轉彎. Got it. Lucas: Now, if they need to cross a street, you can say: 過馬路. Or point and say: 喺嗰度過馬路. 嗰度 means 'there'. Luna: 喺嗰度過馬路. I like that. Lucas: Let's do a quick call-back. Remember 左 and 右 from last episode? If you combine them with today's phrases, you can give full directions. For example: 直行,然後轉左. That's 'go straight, then turn left'. Luna: 直行,然後轉左. That's so cool. Lucas: Or: 直行,然後轉右. 'Go straight, then turn right'. Luna: 直行,然後轉右. Lucas: You're a natural. Let's do one more practice round. I'll say the English, you say the Cantonese. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Go straight. Luna: 直行. Lucas: Turn. Luna: 轉彎. Lucas: Cross the street. Luna: 過馬路. Lucas: Go straight then turn. Luna: 直行然後轉彎. Lucas: Where to cross the street? Luna: 喺邊度過馬路? Lucas: Perfect! You did it. Now you can give basic directions in Cantonese. Luna: I feel so prepared for my next bubble tea adventure. Lucas: That's the goal. Remember, practice makes progress. And if you want to learn more, check out Fexingo for interactive exercises. Luna: Yeah, the Fexingo app has flashcards for these phrases. Super helpful. Lucas: That's it for Episode 58. We'll be back with another tiny topic soon. Keep practicing your 直行 and 過馬路. Luna: Thanks for listening! Bye! Lucas: Bye bye!
