- 3:15Also for kem Tone the Miracle wall finish. And now for today's mysterious
- 3:23adventure with Nick Carter. As we start today's story, we find Nick and
- 3:29Patsy just entering Lieutenant Riley's office. Well, Riley was on your mind?
- 3:32What do you want to see me about it? They'll make you short,
- 3:35Nick, You're taking a trip up state, don't yes, Lieutenant for wonder
- 3:38Nick is leaving me in charge of the office and taking a few days off.
- 3:42It's hard to believe, but it's true. Well, Nick, you
- 3:45remember Tom Fraser, the young rookie cup who shut down in cold Blood last
- 3:49week? Oh? Yes, indeed, nice young chap. Sorry to see
- 3:52him go like that. His folks live in Watertown. It's right on the
- 3:54way to where you're going. Would you stop off there long enough to call
- 3:58on him and tell him in a lake? Oh hurry, we are,
- 4:00and what happened to him? Now? Nick would love to do that.
- 4:02He makes beautiful speech. Quiet. Patsy's vacation I'm taking seems to have gone
- 4:08to your head. Would you do it? Nick? He's a favorite to
- 4:11me, of course. Okay, Riley, I'll do it for you.
- 4:15I suppose the old folks will feel his death a little less keenly if we
- 4:17tell let me die a hero and line of judy. I think that's a
- 4:19darn nice thing to do. Nick, I'm proud of I knew what you'd
- 4:23count on. You. Can you take me to the Fraser place on Upper
- 4:39Main Street? I sure kin, Mitchy get here and I'll get going.
- 4:49I'm in the city, Yes, come to pay your respects, you bet
- 4:54eh. I suppose that's what you'd call it. Why, Oh, just
- 4:58wondered how far you get been expecting somebody ever since young Tom got herself killed.
- 5:03Family taking it hard. Some is, some eat some we don't know
- 5:08whether they is or they ain't. Meaning what. Nobody ever gets to see
- 5:13the old lady you mean, missus Fraser. Eh, nobody but her doctor
- 5:16is seen hers and she got sick. From what I hear, she might
- 5:20take it anyway, Oh, little peculiar little They told Sharon her own daughter
- 5:27she was wild and wicked. She'd better be better off dead. Same for
- 5:30the boy Don. That's the house, just the head there, well,
- 5:34nice looking old place, isn't it. It looks don't mean much outside of
- 5:39my package. Don't tell what's inside. Uh wait please, I'll be right
- 5:47out. No, I'll come back. I said i'd come back half an
- 5:51hour. Well okay, but don't forget me. I won't. Don't you
- 5:55forget about me? Nobody you know? Who are you? I'm a Garroy
- 6:11Who are you? Hi? I am a policeman police steady there, steady
- 6:16And it's a drunk You can't stand up. Hey, he's a cold and
- 6:21I lay him down. You want to be a shamed bringing him home in
- 6:24that condition. I'm not bringing him home. I'm taking him out. That's
- 6:27worse. Look here, I'm Nick Carter and I can't I'm Sharon Fraser.
- 6:30What do you want? I have a message from missus Fraser, from Lieutenant
- 6:31Riley or the Metropolitan Police. Oh, we've been expecting somebody. Come on.
- 6:34I'll take you to a room. Doctor Gavins. Is Nick Carter.
- 6:46He wants to talk to mother. H nothing exciting, I hope, mister
- 6:48Carter. And that's the condolences of the Metropolitan Police Department on the recent death
- 6:53of his son Tom Missus Fraser. Lieutenant Riley thought the world of your son.
- 7:00And he wanted me to tell you that Tom died in service to the
- 7:02people. You may well be proud of him. Proud of him, hed
- 7:05said, Take now thy son whom thou lovest, and offer him for a
- 7:12bent offering upon one of the mountains, which I shall tell lee. How
- 7:17maybe you don't understand missus Fraser, Lieutenant Riley, mister Carter, suppose you
- 7:23come outside with me. Well, all right, missus Frasier is not fully
- 7:28conscious of what goes on around her. You've done all you could. What
- 7:33was all that? She was quoting from the Bible. In cases of this
- 7:36kind, it's not unusual for the patient to lean heavily on the Bible as
- 7:40a refuge from reality. But her son, Yes, I know, mister
- 7:43Carter. There's nothing to be done about it, all right, doctor whatever
- 7:46you say. Well, if you think I can do it all good here.
- 7:49I'll just get back to the station. That would be best, I'm
- 7:53sure. And thank you for coming. Taxi drivers long over two won if
- 8:09you ever intended to come back, wait for somebody? Oh yes, say
- 8:13what goes with the taxi service in this town? I'd like to get that
- 8:16train to Albany. It's already gone. You'll have to stay here tonight.
- 8:20No thanks. I don't care for the atmosphere here. You feel it too,
- 8:24I do. It's the most unpleasant feeling of hatred. Hatred that's monstrous
- 8:31and unnatural. Yeah, I get a little uneasy here, evening to myself.
- 8:37I'll be glad to have you. That's my sister. Yes, come
- 8:43on, let's trouble up there, all right? Oh Wied you try to
- 8:50what's out here? Mother's upset and the reason you try to kick of me,
- 8:58that's I'm not here milks, all right, I just brought it up.
- 9:01She hasn't even tasted this, and what made her think of his poison?
- 9:03You tell me you're a detective, aren't you. Where did this milk
- 9:05come from? I got it out of the refrigerator. My brother Don was
- 9:09with me. He got a glass for himself and brought it upstairs. He
- 9:11stopped to talk to mother while I changed my clothes. And where's your brother
- 9:15now? In his room? I suppose take me that once. It's the
- 9:16next room to this. Look for yourself, I will, Sharon, come
- 9:24here murder. Your brother's dead and he's been murdered. Mister Connor, this
- 9:39is mister welchowd County showff. How are you, chef? Doctor Gavin says,
- 9:43you don't think young Dan Fraser died of heart failure. He died of
- 9:48heart failure, all right, heart failure brought on by a generous dose of
- 9:52poison. I'm afraid mister Carr, being from the city, is used to
- 9:54dealing with the sensation. Probably, but since she makes the accusation, I'll
- 10:00have the corner analyze your boys glass mail. That ain't necessary. It was
- 10:03murder on right, and you know who didn't shar and didn't you're crazy?
- 10:07Uncle ro Oh no, a't you're scared? Yelli. Lord won't fall for
- 10:11you. If you ain't rich and you want moneys beged, you're willing to
- 10:13kill for It's you, you drunken old bomb. You dared say that to
- 10:18me, probably killed him yourself. If we were all dead, you'd be
- 10:20the one to cap. Let's stop at both of you. We don't even
- 10:24know Don was killed. It's just that, mister Carmer hears, Oh,
- 10:28Alex, I'm so glad you've come right, dear you, Alex Lord,
- 10:31that's right. Thought i'd better drop in before you city cops carted the whole
- 10:35household off to jail. I have nothing to do with this. This is
- 10:37off my beat. Don't let me slow you up, curter not why share
- 10:41if I wouldn't what I'm getting out of here? Killer or no killer.
- 10:43I'd like to beget into Albany. Where's the phone. It's in the downstairs
- 10:46entrance hall. You'll see it right at the foot of the stairs. Thanks.
- 10:50I'll close the door and I won't disturb anyone. Oh, don't mind
- 10:52house. We'll leave it now anyway, and you'll get me there in time
- 11:05for the one twenty seven to Albany. All right. I'll be on the
- 11:09porch whenever you get here. And don't fail me now. I've had too
- 11:13much trouble finding someone who get me out of here to want you to sleep
- 11:15up too. Okay, goodbye. I don't know why I feel as I
- 11:24must close. I know he were so that big never fell off that upper
- 11:33landing without being pushed. I'd better see who's up there. You get some
- 11:43transportation, mister carnor doctor, come here. Yes, I want to show
- 11:46you something. What is it? Something wrong? I go with the railing.
- 11:52See that big ern. I'll smashed up at the foot of the stairs.
- 11:54For yes, Why that just missed me by inches a moment ago.
- 11:58You think somebody was trying to kill you think I'm sure of it. Did
- 12:03you hear anyone up here? Well? Yes, yes, I did think
- 12:07I heard someone out here a minute ago. So there really is a killer
- 12:11in the house. I hadn't believed it before you fellas hear anything? Why
- 12:16no? Did you so I heard a crash? Well you did? Someone
- 12:20tried to kill me? God? Then I did hear somebody tiptoe past madure
- 12:24bit back? You know who it was? No, he sounded like they
- 12:28went down the backstairs the kitchen. Let's see who's down there. If anyone
- 12:31is, which I doubt you, what be save a minute until he's gone.
- 12:43I don't worry. We'll make it so hot for him he'll be glad
- 12:45to go. We cast crazy. I've changed my mind. I'm staying for
- 12:50the night. You're staying here. Yes, I'd hoped i'd seen the last
- 12:56of you. You almost did until someone dropped that oversize plaster vase at my
- 13:00head. It was a wonderful idea. I'm sorry it missed. I'll show
- 13:03you where you can sleep come on that sun feels good, damp inside that
- 13:18old house. Eight o'clock. Wonder what time they serve breakfast around you early,
- 13:24aren't you? Why? Yes, lovely morning for it? Out for
- 13:28a walk in the sunshine, just out to get the mail. If you
- 13:31must know, I'll let you know if there's anything for you in the box.
- 13:35Thanks, but I'm not expecting anything. I'm happy to say nobody else
- 13:41thinks any more of you than I do. No mail. Well, this
- 13:56looks more serious. Is someone trying to kill Sharon? Or is it they're
- 14:00trying to get? And why? What has this to do with a hate
- 14:03that seems to rule the Fraser household. We'll see in just a moment.
- 14:09Your youngsters are sometimes thoughtless about tracking in mud, slush and snow these winter
- 14:13days. Even the careful grown ups sometimes can't help it. But it needn't
- 14:18be a problem to keep your floors looking lovely when you depend on linax self
- 14:22polishing wax to protect them. That's because linax self polishing wax resists water,
- 14:28it keeps dirt on the surface too, so that you can clean it up
- 14:31instantly, and because it contains genuine carnava wax. Linax self polishing wax resists
- 14:37where although it's simply wiped on without tiresome rubbing or polishing, and it's handy
- 14:43to use because when warn spots do appear in the finish, you may renew
- 14:46it without re waxing the whole floor. There's no doubt about it. Linax
- 14:52self polishing wax is a splendid finish for any floor wood, tile or linoleum,
- 14:56for it gives a beautiful satiny appearance and gives protection. Besides, what's
- 15:01more, the underwriter's laboratories, whose seal is on every bottle, have proved
- 15:07that it's less slippery underfoot. Here's the modern shortcut too, floor Care Linax
- 15:13l I n dash X, Linax self Polishing Wax. Ask your dealer for
- 15:18it. Now you'll find all three great Linax Home Brightness and kem Tone the
- 15:22Miracle wall finish at hardware, paint and department stores everywhere. Now back to
- 15:35our story. We left Nick and Sharon as they were being shot at by
- 15:41an unknown killer who seemed to be hiding in the nearby bright to the ground.
- 15:52Here's gone. Now you're hurt, not much. Did you see who
- 15:56it was? Now the bushes move that's all. There wasn't Peter Rabbit.
- 16:02Let me see that on nothing right, It's just a bad scratch. He'll
- 16:06be all right here. Let me help you back to the house. Thanks.
- 16:11I feel a little buy. I don't like being shot at. You're
- 16:15lucky. His name was no better. He might have killed you. I
- 16:18know what's going on here? Did I hear shooting? You did take care
- 16:22of Sharon. I'm going to do some investigating. Oh there looking for something,
- 16:38yes, looking for a killer? A killer. Yes, the man
- 16:44I'm looking for has my mark on him. I found blood in the bushes
- 16:48from which he did his shooting. Oh, maybe that's the man I saw.
- 16:51What do you mean? Well, I was driving up the back road
- 16:52and I saw somebody in here. I was curious, so I stopped and
- 16:55I came in. But I must have missed whoever it was. Well,
- 16:57there's no one here now, that's sure. So if your car is here,
- 17:00you can drive me back to the house. Of course, cars right
- 17:03over there behind the tree. Oh, yes, I see it. Did
- 17:06they kill again anybody? Oh? I was poor shot, but he intended
- 17:10murder. All right, Here we are, climb in this car. I
- 17:18see you have a rifle. In the car here, Why, yes,
- 17:22mind if I look at it? Not at all? Nice little gun.
- 17:30I haven't had time to clean it, have you? I know I was
- 17:34doing a bit of hunting this morning on the way out. I see,
- 17:40let's be getting back, shall we. Well that is as this miss Carter.
- 18:00Look there, just coming around the corner of the house, Alferori with
- 18:03a rifle. I wonder what he's been shooting. I think I'll have a
- 18:07talk with him. Okay, I'll see you later. I hope he's not
- 18:11the one you were after. Got anything? You didn't see a thing?
- 18:17Nice gun you've got there? I see it? Oh? Sure here?
- 18:21Oh nice mellance. Ye dirty, isn't it? I thought you hadn't shot
- 18:26it today? Uh? Heaven, I must have forgot to clean it the
- 18:30last time. Smells pretty fresh for that. Well you getting it to all
- 18:36them questions? Somebody shot sharing a little while ago. Cheer she hurt bed
- 18:41No, but that's only because the killer missed. You know anything about her,
- 18:45mister Carter. I loved that girl as if she was my own daughter.
- 18:49And why did you accuse her last night of killing her brother and Hendrew's
- 18:52for her own protection? Mister Carter? I hoped you'd take her away someplace
- 18:56and lock her up where she'd be safe. Isn't she safe here? No,
- 18:59sir, she stays around here. She'll be murdered too. I know
- 19:04what's going on around here? Who don't want to kill her? It is?
- 19:07I'm sorry to interrupt, but missus Fraser is very low. Maybe you
- 19:11better come up like sure, we're sharing in her room, resting? How
- 19:15is she done? You'll be all right? Excitement and shock. We're too
- 19:18much for her. Missus Fraser is really worse. Maybe I better get her.
- 19:22Yes, sir, Sharon, your mother's pretty bad all right now looks
- 19:29about the same my life. Shall hang him down to be body, and
- 19:33thou shalt see hoday and night and no assuring. Still, Oh, don't
- 19:37be tired. Some mothery she is. I'll wait downstairs. I guess,
- 19:44Oh there you are. Carter thought you might like to see the results of
- 19:48the analysis of the milk you say killed Don Fraser. Yes, i'd like
- 19:52to you haven't sure? Hell? According to this Don's glass from milk contained
- 19:59calcium phosphorus, lactic acid, water, and five percent butterfly. In other
- 20:06words, mister Carter, just plain milk. Yeah, how about the other
- 20:10sample. I gave you the milk from missus Fraser's glass. That didn't even
- 20:14look at the report or that she wasn't killed? Was she no? But
- 20:17she claims she was being poisoned? What does that analysis show? Let's see
- 20:23what's hyacinth? A slow acting poison? Well, I'll be done, says
- 20:29here. There was enough hyacin in missus Fraser's milk poisoned half the county.
- 20:33I thought so, then why was it dog who got poison instead of the
- 20:36old lady sheriff? This is all part of a well thought up plan,
- 20:38the plan to commit wholesale murder unless we can stop it. Carter, you're
- 20:41crazy. You carry any guns? Why of course I do one better?
- 20:48Let me have it be safe for that way. Why should I turn my
- 20:49gun over to you? A share for this district. It's my duty to
- 20:52see that nobody carries a gun. He ain't got a permit for her,
- 20:56and I don't trust you. You see, things don't exist. Okay,
- 21:00sure, I know I have no rights in this part of the state.
- 21:03That's a minute. Now, you sir, look, what's the idea of
- 21:08taking out the cartages before you turn the gun over to me. I don't
- 21:11trust you any more than you do me. I'd hate to be shocked with
- 21:15my own gun. Why all right, give it back to you when you're
- 21:19ready to leave. I hope it'll be sure, just as soon as I
- 21:22find out a few answers. I don't know yet. Nothing that helps Sharon.
- 21:30If you children didn't get your mother's money when she dies, to whom
- 21:32would it go? Well? Uncle Roy would get it. And if Uncle
- 21:36Roy didn't get it, go to some charity. I think, what are
- 21:37you getting here? Does your mother take small doses of hyacinth as a sedative?
- 21:42Yes, it's darned expensive. Could anybody get at it? Probably it's
- 21:47not locked up? What is all this? I wonder just how sick your
- 21:52mother really is? Would you coward trying to drag a sick woman's name into
- 21:56this mess? I'm dragging nobody, and I'm just trying. Please. Missus
- 22:00Fraser's feeling better? Now? Where's Uncle Roy? I left him with Missus
- 22:03Frazier. You what great grief? Get on my way. I was afraid
- 22:11of that. Mine is mine. I will repair the lord ben Uncle Roy.
- 22:23Yes, Uncle Roy dead. So she killed Uncle Roy. She tabbed
- 22:29him in the back. Yes, must have met him lean over the bed
- 22:30and then drove the knife in his back. I should have warned you,
- 22:34mister Carter. I've known for a long time that she was dangerously insane,
- 22:38that I never dreamed she would go this far. First down now, Uncle
- 22:41Roy, mister Carter, do you mean that missus Fraser had anything to do
- 22:45with but Don's death? That's ridiculous. How could she have killed Don?
- 22:48It was really very easy, Sharon. Just as soon as I found the
- 22:51analysis showed hyacin and her milk, I knew the answer. She coached down
- 22:55to try it, and there was so much poison in it that even the
- 22:57sipy took was fatal. The poison made him sleepy, and he went to
- 23:00his own room to lie down. Why why should she want to do it?
- 23:04I'll get to that in a minute. Well, old missus Fraser certainly
- 23:07wasn't the one who fired a chaerin this morning, naturally not. But if
- 23:10you'd got there little sooner, Alex, you would have caught the murderer red
- 23:12handed. He stopped his car by the road, ran into the brush,
- 23:17shot at Charon, mister because he was in a hurry, and then got
- 23:18back in his car and drove on. You know who it was he did
- 23:22the shooting, mister Carter, I do it was the same one who was
- 23:26responsible for Don's death and for Uncle Roy's. You said mother killed them.
- 23:30You notice I said the one who was responsible. Your mother isn't responsible.
- 23:34She's just the instrument the murderer used to accomplish his ends. But who is
- 23:37it, then, Sharon? Whose weather jacket is that on the chair behind
- 23:42you? Weather jacket? What that's doctor Gavindon and bewore it when he helped
- 23:47me into the house this morning. Look at the right sleeve, right sleeve,
- 23:52Oh, I see this blood on It must have come from where I
- 23:55was shot when I leaned on him. That isn't your blood, Charon.
- 23:59You'll find more inside the sleeve with certainly couldn't have come from your arm.
- 24:03What are you getting at, mister Carter? The real murderer is the one
- 24:06who could best work on poor missus Fraser's mind with drugs and suggestions, the
- 24:10one who implanted in her sick mind the idea that her children were evil and
- 24:12wicked the only one who could have left a surgeon's scalpel where her hand could
- 24:17get at it when she wanted to stab Uncle Roy in compliance with his suggestion.
- 24:21Carter, you mean the doctor Gavin. Yes, Alick, that's what
- 24:22he means, and he's quite right, doctor Gavin. You it would have
- 24:26worked out except for you, Carter. I was afraid of you when you
- 24:29first came here. That's why I tried to kill you with that urn.
- 24:32You overplayed your hand, Gavin. You'd let me go my way as I
- 24:34wanted to. I would never have given the Fraser household a second thought,
- 24:37but you made me mad, and that was your mistake. I didn't there
- 24:41let you go, but you wished you had this morning when my shots winged
- 24:44you in the arm as you tried to kill Sharon. I'll get even for
- 24:45that, right now, doctor gunn Oh, Yes he can, right,
- 24:51mister Carter. I happen to know that the sheriff took your gun away from
- 24:55you, so you're helpless. There'll be no last minute gun battle with you
- 24:59winning a fight. There'll just be one shot for each of you. And
- 25:04but the sheriff. When I took one of my guns, you overlooked the
- 25:07one on my shoulder holster that you'll see is quite effective, all right,
- 25:11Alec Pick up his gun. I'll get the sheriff. He'll know what to
- 25:17do with a cowardly rat like this. But I don't understand why doctor Gavin
- 25:30wanted to get them all killed off? What did he hope to get out

- 26:11had takes up for the occasion. Another words, Gavin and the charity were
- 26:15one and the same thing and existed only for the purpose of getting the praiser
- 26:18a million. That's a pretty clever set up, a turn, yes,
- 26:22But Gavin forgot one thing though. What was that when he was whispering biblical
- 26:26quotations to the old lady, he should remember the one that goes an I
- 26:30for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, A life for a life.

- 29:04too good. Well, it seems like a peculiar way to feel well can
- 29:07The peculiar part of it came in when we started our investigations and found he
- 29:11was right, and found it out only just in time to save the life
