- 0:32Welcome to drive through episode number 55.
- 0:34This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive, motor
- 0:38sport, and entertaining car adjacent news.
- 0:43Now let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:47One for the thumb baby.
- 0:49Season six, we're kicking it off, and I know you're gonna correct me.
- 0:52You're gonna say, but that's not right.
- 0:53That doesn't make any sense.
- 0:54'cause one for the thumb is a fifth one, right?
- 0:56I don't know.
- 0:56Technically this is our fifth full season coming up here because our first season
- 1:01was super short and it was only half.
- 1:02So I count this one as our fifth full one for the thumb baby.
- 1:06I mean, we've done 55 of these.
- 1:08Did we even do drive-throughs in the first season?
- 1:10Yeah, we did.
- 1:11Our very first one was like in the second month of the show.
- 1:13Really?
- 1:14Yeah.
- 1:14Like August or something like that.
- 1:16Wow.
- 1:16We sold out that early.
- 1:18We sold out.
- 1:24I have news.
- 1:25You have news?
- 1:28What's going on?
- 1:29Actually, a lot has going on.
- 1:30Um, your car's done.
- 1:32Uh oh.
- 1:33It it's done.
- 1:33It's cooked.
- 1:34Hooked.
- 1:35What does that mean?
- 1:35Yeah, what does that mean?
- 1:36Oh, it's somebody else's problem now.
- 1:38Oh.
- 1:38Oh, you sold it.
- 1:39You sold it.
- 1:40I sold it.
- 1:40Whoa.
- 1:42Professional.
- 1:44Let's get into it.
- 1:45This, this is, this is, uh, break fix dashboard, confessionals.
- 1:49Dashboard confessionals with Brad.
- 1:51Look, he's a little misty-eyed about it for the first time in a very long time.
- 1:55You are not a Volkswagen owner anymore.
- 1:57I know.
- 1:57And it's gonna be for a while.
- 1:59I can't remember the last time I didn't have two vehicles.
- 2:02What made you kick the habit?
- 2:04Uh, I got tired of throwing good money after bad.
- 2:08That's the definition of Volkswagen ownership.
- 2:10What are you talking about?
- 2:11Exactly?
- 2:12So when I have my, what should I buy?
- 2:14I'm gonna have criteria,
- 2:17but it's basically I was, it was the right kind of car.
- 2:21It was the wrong.
- 2:23Car though it was the wrong specific car.
- 2:25Right.
- 2:26But it was what I wanted, but it, the car was too ragged out and beat.
- 2:30It was like, I enjoyed working on it, but I would've enjoyed working
- 2:33on it, making it better, not fixing the shit that the previous owner
- 2:37had fucked up the whole time.
- 2:38Like, yeah, I don't wanna sit there and change brake calipers
- 2:41and fix wheel bearings and all, and wheel hubs and all that bullshit.
- 2:45I want to throw turbos and shit on it, and superchargers and
- 2:48coil overs and all the fun stuff.
- 2:50And I kept throwing.
- 2:51Good money after a bad situation and it just kept getting worse.
- 2:55And the more I did to it, the worse it got.
- 2:57And I mean, I was double into it what I originally paid.
- 3:01At least it sounds like my BMW.
- 3:03Exactly, exactly.
- 3:04Which is why I'm making a statement now.
- 3:07There are only three, maybe four German cars.
- 3:10I will consider purchasing in the future ever and 17 Japanese ones.
- 3:15So what are these four German cars?
- 3:17I'm very curious.
- 3:18So the first one is a mark four R 32, because I'll do it right and get the og.
- 3:24Good luck.
- 3:24Yeah, exactly.
- 3:25Exactly.
- 3:26So that would be the first one.
- 3:27The second one is an E 46.
- 3:29M three.
- 3:30Yeah.
- 3:30Just because I've lusted after those cars ever since they were ever made.
- 3:34The third one is a nine 11, because who doesn't want a nine 11?
- 3:38I don't want one.
- 3:39Well, that's you.
- 3:39You've already got a Porsche.
- 3:40You've already got a P car.
- 3:41The fourth one is probably even more unobtainium than a Mark four R 32.
- 3:47And that is the Mercedes CLK Black series.
- 3:50Oh yeah.
- 3:51That's number one on my list if I have to buy.
- 3:53We, and it's funny, Tanya and I were just talking about Mercedes
- 3:57before we got on air, and she did some car spotting on the road.
- 4:00She's like, I'm not sure if it was a one 90 modified resto mod or
- 4:04if it was an actual EVO two or if it was a, you know, 4 65 60 SEC.
- 4:07We're trying to figure out exactly like what late eighties.
- 4:10Model it was or whatever.
- 4:12But yeah, the CLK black is definitely right up there.
- 4:15I'd like to interrupt our program here in Arlington, Virginia.
- 4:19You can purchase yourself a 2004 Volkswagen, R 32 with 108,336
- 4:25miles for the low price of $17,981.
- 4:29What color?
- 4:30Silver.
- 4:30They're not unobtainium.
- 4:31They're just more expensive.
- 4:33Which is fine because I'm not going to be in the market until
- 4:36the kids are outta daycare.
- 4:37You'll never get one of these.
- 4:38Then I, I'm going to go 'cause they'll all, they'll all be trashed
- 4:41or they'll all be destroyed.
- 4:42Oh wait, you said daycare?
- 4:43I was thinking like when they were old enough to drive.
- 4:45Nevermind.
- 4:46Oh, no, no, no daycare.
- 4:46So like four years from now.
- 4:48Yeah.
- 4:48I'll be able to pick one up then, or I'll get something else.
- 4:51Still a 20 plus year old mark.
- 4:52Four that needs everything.
- 4:54So you're in the same boat all over again.
- 4:56Yeah.
- 4:56But at least at that point, I'll know what I'm getting into and I'll be a lot
- 5:00more choosy about the vehicle that I buy.
- 5:02And I won't buy a car that was at auction.
- 5:05Well, yeah, but the thing is, the mark fours and the mark
- 5:07fives don't share any DNA.
- 5:09So you're going back in time.
- 5:10You know what I mean?
- 5:11I know.
- 5:12I prefer the mark fours.
- 5:13Oh, I, I feel you.
- 5:14I feel you.
- 5:15They're just more specific, you know what I mean?
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:17But one thing I did find, you know, not to keep going down this train.
- 5:21Oh no.
- 5:21You dropped the bomb.
- 5:24So yeah, I just dropped a truth bomb for the first, for the
- 5:28first episode of the new season.
- 5:29Now we're going down this road.
- 5:31The one thing I did find out between the mark four and the mark five is there's
- 5:36a lot more aftermarket support for the mark four than there is the mark five.
- 5:40Funny enough to this day across the board, yes.
- 5:43Exactly.
- 5:44So that was another thing I kept running into problem wise, is aftermarket
- 5:49support and even just stock part support for that car was really hard to find.
- 5:54Like I was, I, I needed, after doing all the rear suspension and everything, it was
- 5:58to the point where I, I basically needed to replace the entire rear subprime Ooh.
- 6:03Because it was so rusted out and everything, and.
- 6:06I couldn't find one anywhere.
- 6:07Yeah.
- 6:07'cause there were only a handful of those cars to begin with.
- 6:10Right Now, I will say build numbers wise, there are less Mark four R 30
- 6:15twos globally than there are Mark fives.
- 6:17Like they brought 1500 to the US but I think total production numbers was still
- 6:21under 5,000, which is not that much.
- 6:24No.
- 6:24Considering they brought 5,000 mark fives to the US alone.
- 6:27Right.
- 6:28Exactly.
- 6:28So that then, which is really weird that you would think you'd have more
- 6:31stuff available, but now you're in that weird period of, well, how much of it is
- 6:35shared with the second generation TT and you know, all that kind of crazy stuff.
- 6:39So, so I say, I say this and what I'll, what will actually ended up happening
- 6:43is I won't be able to find one.
- 6:45I'll still have the itch for another Volkswagen and I'll, I'll
- 6:48shoot for the star, the R 32 and I'll land on a 24 Val VR six.
- 6:53That's what's going to happen.
- 6:54I got one on the trailer, it's ready to go.
- 6:57I know, but I, I don't think you're selling it and it's not street legal.
- 7:00Everything has a price tag.
- 7:01Everything's for sale.
- 7:02As for street legal, you know, that's a whole nother problem.
- 7:05But anyway, those are the only German cars that I will consider buying in the future.
- 7:09I will not buy another German car.
- 7:10Wow.
- 7:11The lesson is finally learned.
- 7:13I guess German cars suck.
- 7:15No, I'm just kidding.
- 7:16That's not true.
- 7:17I'm kidding.
- 7:18They're just not for me.
- 7:19And to your point, my list of German cars keeps getting shorter every year.
- 7:24Yeah, yeah.
- 7:24The older I get, the less I want to deal with all that.
- 7:27Fucky.
- 7:28Chicanery.
- 7:29Yes, exactly.
- 7:29I don't, I don't wanna, okay.
- 7:30Any German listeners?
- 7:32Anybody that speaks fluent German, can you please translate fuckery
- 7:35to German so I can use that word?
- 7:38Farik.
- 7:38Newgen.
- 7:38That's what it, the translate.
- 7:41It's fucking stupid.
- 7:42That's what it's, uh, yeah.
- 7:44All right.
- 7:45So why don't we continue this thread.
- 7:47This is now the showcase.
- 7:48We're gonna talk golf Far because that's the first article coming
- 7:51out of Volkswagen, Audi Porsche News by talking about the latest R
- 7:55edition of the golf that's coming.
- 7:56What makes it an R?
- 7:57What makes any of these anything anymore?
- 8:00I don't see anything special.
- 8:01You tell me, is it wheels in the Brakes?
- 8:04Because those brakes, they're not even Brembo.
- 8:06I mean, look at these things.
- 8:07They look like the stuff you get at Advanced Auto that say
- 8:10like Corvette on the side.
- 8:11You just screw 'em into your actual calipers.
- 8:13It looks like you have a big brake kit.
- 8:15I mean, what makes this different than A GTI?
- 8:18Do they even make the GTI anymore?
- 8:19Is that the problem?
- 8:20All wheel drive and more horsepower.
- 8:21Like a hundred more horsepower.
- 8:23Oh, so it does still have all wheel drive?
- 8:25Yeah, it has our center caps for the wheels.
- 8:28And a really stupid looking R on the back under the Volkswagen
- 8:31symbol and that goofy exhaust and everything else that goes along way.
- 8:34Yeah, by outward appearances, other than the color, the Subaru Blue, going
- 8:38back to the original mark for R 32, that Volkswagen R Blue is specific to the r's.
- 8:44You can only get it on those models.
- 8:46Whoop Deep frick.
- 8:47It looks like every other STI out there.
- 8:49And it was on purpose because it was competing with the STI
- 8:53and the Lancer Revolution when those cars all came out together.
- 8:56So they've kept that traditional, it comes in limited colors otherwise, but they're
- 9:01standard Volkswagen colors, black, white, red, silver, blue, you know, whatever.
- 9:05Compared to the previous golfer, what makes it so special?
- 9:08I don't even know what addition we're on the mark.
- 9:108.75 or some happy horse hockey like that.
- 9:1413 more hearse PERS than the last one.
- 9:17They just kicked up one more PSIA boost.
- 9:19Yeah.
- 9:19More than likely it's still dressed up with two 30 fives.
- 9:23They've been running the same wheel size since the mark fours.
- 9:26How pathetic is that?
- 9:28You got a car this big and they haven't stuffed more rubber underneath of it.
- 9:31It does look like it's lifted.
- 9:34It looks like a Tiguan.
- 9:35It does.
- 9:36Well, the best part is.
- 9:36There will be a wagon variant that the US won't see.
- 9:39Ah.
- 9:40And it will have the exact same performance in a heavier car.
- 9:44Ah.
- 9:45They even said it'll be slightly slower.
- 9:48No kidding.
- 9:48You're putting the same power in it, but you made it bigger and heavier.
- 9:53And that begs the question, how much more does this weigh than the previous golf R?
- 9:58Because 13 more horsepower keeps it at the same power to
- 10:01weight ratio that it had before.
- 10:03So it's not any faster.
- 10:04The car weighs between 34 72 and 3,500 pounds.
- 10:073,500 pounds.
- 10:08Still heavy for a golf.
- 10:10That's what my old one weighed.
- 10:11Yeah.
- 10:12The golf R have always been heavy.
- 10:13The original R 32 was like 33, almost 3,400 pounds, right?
- 10:18Yeah.
- 10:18Although they claim zero to 60 and four point whatever, 4.6
- 10:22seconds and a top speed of 1 67.
- 10:25On what planet nor life.
- 10:27Yeah, right, exactly.
- 10:29Who would pay $50,000 for this car though?
- 10:32That's the punchline I wanted to get to.
- 10:33'cause I called it, I said the golf R is gonna be 50 grand and the GTI is gonna
- 10:38be right behind it with a 10 grand delta.
- 10:40Who's gonna spend 50 grand on it?
- 10:42And you know what?
- 10:42I already, I have the memory of a nat these days as I was listening to
- 10:47WTOP on my ride in this morning, as I do now, people still listen to that.
- 10:51Yeah, man.
- 10:52It's the only thing she gets on her tape.
- 10:53I was gonna say the am fm radio.
- 10:57Well see, here's the problem.
- 10:58I've already heard the 10 songs about 150,000 times, so I gotta like stop
- 11:04listening to the broadcast radio stations until there's a new 10
- 11:08songs that I can get sick of hearing.
- 11:10So you can switch to Spotify's Mix, which is the same 10 songs over
- 11:15and over again, at least those 10 or 10 that I most likely selected.
- 11:20But um, at any rate, you were listening to NPR, sorry, I was listening to WTOP.
- 11:27One of their new segments this morning was talking about the price of cars
- 11:31and how there's this boom happening of more people buying cars at a
- 11:36hundred thousand dollars or more.
- 11:38And I'm like, who are these people?
- 11:40They started talking about Land Rover.
- 11:41So that right there, that's a very niche market.
- 11:44Of course, yes.
- 11:45Okay.
- 11:45But also, who are all these young Americans or whatever they were
- 11:49saying that are buying these a hundred thousand dollars cars?
- 11:52I mean, on the one hand, A GTI is $50,000.
- 11:56Everything's creeping up a corolla's.
- 11:58$40,000. I mean, pretty soon.
- 11:59Yeah.
- 12:00It's gonna be pretty normal to be like, oh yeah, I spent $80,000
- 12:03on, uh, you know, grocery getter.
- 12:05That's pathetic.
- 12:06These people, the young Americans are YouTubers and OnlyFans models,
- 12:10and I guess all these 10 99 ERs that are in the entertainment industry,
- 12:15we've talked about this before.
- 12:16How many of these are leased versus bought?
- 12:18Like, whoa, you know, you old Z deal boomers buying your cars?
- 12:22Ha ha, ha ha.
- 12:24Idiots.
- 12:25Okay, fine.
- 12:26But you know what?
- 12:26I like my freaking car.
- 12:28So over the long term depreciation, it's gonna end up costing me
- 12:32less if I do the minimum amount of maintenance and not lease it.
- 12:37I mean, again, I don't wanna get into that argument.
- 12:39Yeah, you can have a hundred thousand dollars car if you're renting it.
- 12:43Sure.
- 12:43What do you care?
- 12:45Woo, woo, woo.
- 12:45Rent that money, I guess.
- 12:47So we've seen those stories.
- 12:49Don't do the math.
- 12:50At the end of your life, you've spent how many hundreds of thousands of dollars
- 12:54and you have nothing to show for it.
- 12:55You could have owned a My box when it was all said and done.
- 12:58You probably own multiple my box.
- 13:00So anyway, let's ground ourselves back in Volkswagen News.
- 13:03So one thing I wanna add to this Golf R story.
- 13:05It started with your recently departed Mark V golf there, Bradley?
- 13:10Yes sir. That was the first R golf that came only in automatic and the
- 13:15new one is only coming in automatic.
- 13:18So we're gonna repeat the same mistake we made the first time, which
- 13:22is why the mark fives didn't sell.
- 13:23Well.
- 13:24I do not have high hopes for this.
- 13:26I don't understand why they did that for the US market, because you could
- 13:29get it with a manual in, in, in the zeros outside of the BMW and Porsche.
- 13:34People that are like, save the manual, save the manual, keep the
- 13:37manual, all that kind of thing.
- 13:38There's been a lot more people saying, I don't care if it shifts
- 13:42in 0.3 milliseconds on the street.
- 13:45It makes, no, it doesn't matter who gives a crap.
- 13:47We're not at the berg ring.
- 13:49So it doesn't matter if it shifts the most efficiently that it possibly can.
- 13:52They don't even sound good with the DSG.
- 13:55It's all this, eh.
- 13:57And it's like it shifts in 10 seconds and it's over and
- 14:00you're like, well that was lame.
- 14:01At least, you know, if I wanna granny shifter or if I wanna rev it out
- 14:04and you know, blip shift and all that kind, you can't do that with an
- 14:07automatic, it's just, oh, it's lame.
- 14:09Yes, yes, but it's the bragging rights.
- 14:11Oh, my car shifts in 0.23 seconds.
- 14:15So much better than yours.
- 14:17And I'm still dog shit slow around Summit Point, Maine.
- 14:20Well that, and you don't watch the lights properly and know how to read 'em.
- 14:24Then I got you off the line because by the time you figured
- 14:27it all out, I'm already taken off.
- 14:29Right?
- 14:29So it's like big deal at that point.
- 14:31And nobody can steal my car and you're still gonna get.
- 14:34Your ass handed to you by a Tesla.
- 14:36So it doesn't matter at the end of the day what you have, but the Tesla is gonna
- 14:40get lighter as it goes down the road because its panels are gonna fall off.
- 14:45It's like the F1 strategy where the cars get faster as they use their fuel uhhuh.
- 14:49The Teslas get faster as they drop weight, literally down the middle of the road.
- 14:55We'll get to that a little later.
- 14:56The other thing that bugs me about this $50,000 golf R is that when you bought.
- 15:01A golf R, especially the original R 30 twos.
- 15:05You got a super nice interior.
- 15:06Those Koenig high back racing seats hand stitched this and embroidered that and
- 15:12the black Alcan roof, it was special.
- 15:14Exactly.
- 15:14It was a special car.
- 15:16Well, Audis were always really, really luxury and really, really nice.
- 15:21Especially starting in the nineties when they started to figure themselves out.
- 15:24You had like really fine leather and wood trim and you know, one of
- 15:28the first cars to have the mobile carone, all that kind of stuff in it.
- 15:31I know that's ancient technology bystanders, but 30
- 15:34years ago it was a big deal.
- 15:36Now there's these articles coming out that Audi is even admitting that their interior
- 15:40quality is getting worse every year with every model that they've put out.
- 15:44But the price of the cars to Tonya's Point, continues to climb.
- 15:47So you're paying more and getting less, which is what bugs me.
- 15:52Again, going back to that Golf R situation, are you really
- 15:54getting something special for 50 grand over a GTI are.
- 15:58We surprised the quality of everybody's stuff, for that matter,
- 16:01I'm sure has been going down.
- 16:03I'm sure it's not just them.
- 16:05There's been talks about Mercedes quality going down ever since the.
- 16:08Basically people would say that the best Mercedes cars were the
- 16:11ones in the nineties and before.
- 16:13Yeah.
- 16:13Anything after that generation.
- 16:14It's all shit.
- 16:16Yeah.
- 16:16It wasn't it.
- 16:16Back in the nineties, Ferraris and Lamborghinis and Maseratis and like
- 16:21the Italian brands were notorious for terrible dash quality and like the dash
- 16:26up there on top of the steering wheel and all that were known to like crack
- 16:30and blister and break apart and all that.
- 16:32Yeah.
- 16:32Porsche had that problem too, right?
- 16:33Because they were experimenting with weird new plastics and composites
- 16:38and all this kind of stuff.
- 16:39The materials didn't hold up well to uv.
- 16:42Then you got the fun things, like you remember the nine 40
- 16:44fours where they would put this like carpet on the dashboard to
- 16:47cover all the cracks and stuff.
- 16:48You're like, oh, that looks so, yeah.
- 16:50Yeah, yeah.
- 16:50Terrible.
- 16:51But you know, they solve those problems over time.
- 16:54Yeah.
- 16:54The accountants are running the shop now.
- 16:56They're making sure that they cut all the costs that they can.
- 16:58Of course.
- 16:59And then you get inferior products that don't last long or you know,
- 17:04and you know, no one's gonna have a real leather interior anymore.
- 17:07Not cars that are meant more for the masses.
- 17:10Yeah.
- 17:10There's, you know, a Ferrari somewhere, even if they still do
- 17:13maybe something super high end.
- 17:16Maybach.
- 17:17That was something that Bentley always took pride in.
- 17:19Like they would get cows from a very special region.
- 17:22We're cage free.
- 17:23Like no fences, no way.
- 17:25That's lying in your Lexus going down the road.
- 17:29No, it's all pleather.
- 17:30It's all fake stuff.
- 17:31And then you already had decades ago, everyone using whatever that
- 17:34stuff is called, that nasty spray stuff to make everything look so
- 17:38wonderful and and nice on the interior.
- 17:41And then you know what happens after 20 years, it becomes this gross, disgusting,
- 17:44melted mess that stains everything that touches it and looks like garbage.
- 17:4920 years, those cars are all gonna be in the junkyard after that amount of time.
- 17:53Well, and that's what I wonder with these new interiors that are
- 17:56admittedly lower quality by the manufacturers, it's like, what are
- 17:59these gonna look like in 20 years?
- 18:01What are they gonna look like in 10 years?
- 18:02Are they even gonna make it five?
- 18:04What is it that Tanya used to say?
- 18:05Hot garbage.
- 18:07Hot garbage.
- 18:08That's what they look like.
- 18:10I guess Audi's gotta pay for that Formula One program.
- 18:12Somehow there, we found out the secret that in the new R eight that's
- 18:16supposedly coming, who's buying that?
- 18:18The article is talking about, you know, hybrid V eight and all this kind of stuff.
- 18:22And I said, that's great.
- 18:22The only thing that gets me excited about a new RA coming is that maybe Audi might
- 18:27return to IMSA in the GT three classes with something that's sort of cool.
- 18:31But again, if you're funneling all your money into Formula One right
- 18:34now, I don't think they can be distracted with other high dollar
- 18:38racing programs like ISA or even WEC.
- 18:41So I was like, oh, you know, I wonder if Audi's gonna go back to lamont.
- 18:44It's not gonna happen.
- 18:45I mean, unless money is suddenly growing on trees at VW and Porsche.
- 18:50And all we've heard about for the last year is plant closures,
- 18:53downsizing, how they're losing money.
- 18:56And now we got dealerships that are being sued for underperforming what?
- 19:01How do you sue a dealer?
- 19:02What does that mean?
- 19:03I hope they counter sue for the manufacturer making shitty cars.
- 19:07Thank you.
- 19:07Thank you.
- 19:08'cause that's what I kept thinking, like is it the dealership's fault that they
- 19:12can't sell something that nobody wants?
- 19:15I mean, if that was the case, who wants to be a Volkswagen dealer?
- 19:18Well, and that's just it.
- 19:19And I know one of the ones in our area, it was the same thing.
- 19:22It was Volkswagen Subaru and Subarus outsell.
- 19:26VWs nowadays, like three to one, if not more.
- 19:29And it became over the last couple years, Subaru only, there is no
- 19:32Volkswagen dealer here locally.
- 19:34So we're like, oh, okay.
- 19:35Well that's interesting.
- 19:36Not that it matters.
- 19:36I order all my parts from ECS anyway.
- 19:39To your point, Brad, I mean, make a better car.
- 19:41I mean, they make some boring stuff.
- 19:43I will say Tanya and I drove by one of the dealerships the other day.
- 19:46There is still one up this way, and they had three ID buzzes out front.
- 19:50So speaking of the ID buzz, I saw one rolling down the road
- 19:54today, may have been a wrap.
- 19:55It was identical to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bus.
- 20:00Oh, nice.
- 20:00It looked pretty sweet.
- 20:02I, I gotta say, I didn't see if it was Leonardo or Donatello driving,
- 20:07but it did look pretty, pretty sweet.
- 20:09One of the ones that we saw was that yellow that they have, I don't know
- 20:13even know what to call that color?
- 20:14Sunflower yellow or something.
- 20:16Yeah.
- 20:16And then they have the blue orange, and then they had an all white one.
- 20:20And the all white one was like striking because it didn't have the, it was
- 20:24absent of color and you're like.
- 20:26Oh, that's really interesting looking, you know, all one color.
- 20:29I'm like, I wonder what it would look like in black, you know, or dark gray.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:33Like a eurovan instead of this two-tone sixties hippie bus thing.
- 20:37It's like, I don't know.
- 20:38I, I don't like the hippie bus colors.
- 20:40Eric, just for you.
- 20:40I just put something in the chat.
- 20:42All blackness.
- 20:43Look at that.
- 20:44This needs some red striping.
- 20:46Yes.
- 20:46It needs to be the 18 van.
- 20:48Yes.
- 20:49Oh, I see it.
- 20:50Now.
- 20:51We need to put a VR six in this though.
- 20:52Get rid of that electric garbage.
- 20:54Yeah, I guess if you read through this a little bit more, so the complaint
- 20:58actually has been going on since 2011 when they first started failing to meet
- 21:03whatever their sales target quotas were.
- 21:06And what they're actually saying is that there's other nearby dealerships that
- 21:11are selling well and meeting the targets.
- 21:14So that could be indicative of a particular problem at
- 21:17this particular location.
- 21:19Or they just care to focus more on their Subaru sales than their Volkswagens.
- 21:23Yep.
- 21:23It could be anything.
- 21:24'cause their customers don't want the Volkswagens.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:28Their customers go to the other dealers for the Volkswagens, one of
- 21:30the other Volkswagen dealerships.
- 21:31Sell other than Volkswagens couldn't tell you.
- 21:34So let's move on to Lower Saxony.
- 21:37We did that last month and we don't need to talk about it again for
- 21:40like what, another five years or so?
- 21:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:42I think that's our cycle.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:44Yeah.
- 21:44BM, BMW and Mercedes not relevant.
- 21:46We know what they have.
- 21:47We know we're getting, that's the next time you talk about
- 21:49cars that nobody wants.
- 21:51That brings us straight into STIs.
- 21:55STIs talk about a company that can't find their butt from a
- 21:58hole in the ground right now.
- 21:59Ah, this is what the British call taking the piss.
- 22:03I'll just read the headlights.
- 22:04Stellantis taps Swedish startup for Quadric cycle production technology
- 22:09that uses a flat pack chassis.
- 22:11We're talking Ikea style, build it yourself kind of stuff.
- 22:14This is what Stellantis is focusing their attention on.
- 22:17Company doesn't have anything to sell.
- 22:20This ain't coming here, so if they're marketing it in Sweden,
- 22:23I bet it'll do really well.
- 22:25Where is this being sold?
- 22:26Not here.
- 22:27Look at this vehicle.
- 22:28In what Total recall.
- 22:30Blade Runner demolition, man, it's, it's the murder, death kill cab.
- 22:35This thing is horrible.
- 22:36Nobody wants a car that looks like this.
- 22:39You know what they're doing?
- 22:40They're adding more fuel efficient vehicles to their fleet to lengthen
- 22:44their mile per gallon average, or increase their mile per gallon average.
- 22:47So they can build a 1200 horsepower Hellcat demon,
- 22:52Satan, Lucifer, Morningstar.
- 22:55Ooh, the Lucifer Morningstar edition.
- 22:57Yeah.
- 22:58Yeah.
- 22:58There you go.
- 22:59Is this actually a car that's going into production or is this like a concept that
- 23:04they're trying to prove this flat pack technology or whatever else they're doing?
- 23:08I'm gonna ask a question on top of your question, and my question is, who cares?
- 23:13Who cares?
- 23:16So, I will say this, to answer Tanya's question, the car in the picture.
- 23:19Exists already.
- 23:20That's the lovely o whatever that Swedish manufacturer is,
- 23:25St whatever, FRG and Bergen.
- 23:28But the point is, it's like Stellantis is partnering with lovely O to
- 23:32develop their own version of this not so lovely looking vehicle.
- 23:36I mean, this thing is.
- 23:37Oh, this is bad.
- 23:38Just bring us a new charger or challenger for the love of Pete.
- 23:42All right, domestic news.
- 23:44We got some domestic news.
- 23:46Actually, Brad, I think you called this a while ago.
- 23:48This is the greatest fear of all this stuff come true.
- 23:52Headline reads, GM is sued for selling driver data to insurance companies.
- 23:57Let's be fair to gm.
- 23:59GM sold your data to a third party.
- 24:02Third party, then sold data to the insurance company.
- 24:05Let's make sure that we factually report that GM has to sell your data
- 24:10because they're not selling many cars,
- 24:14Bazinga.
- 24:15They gotta find a revenue stream somewhere.
- 24:17There's so many old cars to still enjoy.
- 24:20It is just sad.
- 24:21This is the world we live in, where everything soon.
- 24:24It's gonna be standard.
- 24:25And I think we literally said this probably in the past, talking about
- 24:28the same conversation is like soon your freaking toilet is gonna be smart
- 24:32and it'll be feeding information.
- 24:34I don't know where the Charmin, pretty sure there are smart toilets
- 24:38that link to an app on your phone.
- 24:40I saw advertisements, not for the toilet, but for smart water bottles
- 24:45that link to an app on your phone.
- 24:47Why do you need that?
- 24:48Because people can't just write down or remember how many cups
- 24:52of water they've had in one day.
- 24:53They need an app to blink and tell them, Hey, time to drink some water.
- 24:57You.
- 24:58Is it that complicated to know that you need to hydrate?
- 25:01Am I such.
- 25:02A Neanderthal that I can't just drink when I'm thirsty.
- 25:06And if I'm not, I don't, I mean, not to divergent into that conversation, but this
- 25:10is technology, be getting technology for the sake of technology for no good reason.
- 25:15And now that water bottle costs $250 and comes with a warranty
- 25:19plan for Verizon or something.
- 25:21Why?
- 25:22Because it's cellular data.
- 25:24Yeah.
- 25:24Yes.
- 25:24The, the problem is people buy this shit.
- 25:26I don't know.
- 25:27What's the bigger evil that this stuff exists or that people buy
- 25:32it, which therefore make it exist.
- 25:35And it's all running on Amazon Web services.
- 25:37And don't even get me started on that.
- 25:40That's a whole other episode better than CrowdStrike.
- 25:42That's a whole nother thing.
- 25:43But still, I mean, some things just need to be dumb.
- 25:45That's that.
- 25:46All right.
- 25:47General Motors.
- 25:48And now we move to Asian domestic news.
- 25:53Brad, you brought us this one.
- 25:54Yes.
- 25:55They're bringing out a new FJ cruiser, and I never liked the first one.
- 25:59I thought they were dumb.
- 26:00I had a friend that had one and he flipped it over trying to off
- 26:03road through a construction site.
- 26:04What?
- 26:04No, no, he was, he wasn't off-roading through a construction site.
- 26:06He was off-roading at a friend's farm on his birthday and flipped it.
- 26:10I'm still gonna go with what, that's my response to that.
- 26:14That's all I know.
- 26:15I wasn't there.
- 26:16I wasn't there.
- 26:17That's what I heard.
- 26:18That's the, the scuttlebutt around the water cooler.
- 26:20So yeah, they're bringing out another FJ cruiser.
- 26:22It looks like a Toyota version of the Land Rover defender,
- 26:27which is exactly what it is.
- 26:28It looks a little better than the original.
- 26:30This is a rendering, so we don't know if this is chat GPT due and it's
- 26:34thing or not, but I agree with Tanya.
- 26:37It's better looking than the previous one.
- 26:39Well, yeah, the previous one looks like a turd.
- 26:41It's just goofy with that little door, like whatever.
- 26:44Well, if this is what it looks like, it looks like literally a Toyota version of.
- 26:48The defender.
- 26:49Well, that's the prompt you put into chat, GPT.
- 26:51Please re-render the Land Rover as a Toyota boop.
- 26:53And there it goes.
- 26:54Yep.
- 26:55That rear end is terrible though.
- 26:56Regardless of what it looks like.
- 26:58There is a desire for a Toyota off rotor.
- 27:00I mean, they redesigned the Land Cruiser.
- 27:02They redesigned the Sequoia, you know, when they did the Tundra refresh.
- 27:06So the Land Cruiser was made a little bit smaller and a little
- 27:09bit more like off-road focused.
- 27:11Yeah.
- 27:12Than the previous one, which was a tank of a vehicle.
- 27:14Jeeps sell well, Broncos sell Well, I'm not surprised that they're
- 27:18trying to compete in that market and the scout is allegedly coming.
- 27:21Let's put air quotes on that one.
- 27:23Here's my question.
- 27:24You know, I always like to pose a new question each episode.
- 27:26What comes first, the New Scout or the new DeLorean?
- 27:29Considering there's multiple companies with the quote unquote new DeLorean,
- 27:33they might make it to market first.
- 27:37Picking up where you left off on flipping FJS over in a construction site or a
- 27:42car park or a farm, or whatever it was.
- 27:45What about this next one?
- 27:46What's the point?
- 27:47Because other than the body panels, what is left of this being a two 40 sx?
- 27:54I don't know.
- 27:54And for those that can't see what we're talking about, it's an article
- 27:58about some Japanese company that did a conversion to make a Nissan two 40 SX
- 28:03into basically a Baja, a pre-runner.
- 28:07So it's got a hood, it's got half of the front bumper, the headlights and the door
- 28:13panels, and the roof, and the rest of it is a custom chassis and everything else.
- 28:18So what kills me about this is why can't this be like a remote control
- 28:22car, kinda like nascar, right?
- 28:24Where you put a plastic body on the top of this frame and it looks like
- 28:27a Nissan two 40, why did we have to sacrifice a two 40 SX to make this?
- 28:32So I'm gonna theorize I have an idea of what I think happened.
- 28:35I don't care what the article says.
- 28:36I don't care what the guy said, if he said anything about why he built it.
- 28:39I think he had the chassis.
- 28:41For the PreRunner.
- 28:42He had a two 40 SX that was sitting in a field somewhere, didn't run.
- 28:47Mm. He was like, I'm just gonna take these body pan.
- 28:49I, I need a body for the PreRunner I'll, that car's not running
- 28:52and I'm not gonna fix that.
- 28:53Let's just go ahead and slap it together.
- 28:55That's like the top gear.
- 28:56How hard could it be?
- 28:57Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:58Something like that.
- 28:58So, I mean, the offroad in me thinks it's kind of cool.
- 29:01I mean, it would be kind of cool regardless of what body it had on it.
- 29:05If it had a Toyota RAV4 body, if it had a Toyota Super Body, the thing
- 29:09that would make it sacrilege is if they actually cut up a good working car.
- 29:13But if they cut up a car that was already junk, then who cares?
- 29:16I mean, yeah, if I kept that R, things kept going wrong with it, I could totally
- 29:20see doing something like this with that.
- 29:22Because the only thing good about that car was the body panels.
- 29:25Are you sure about that?
- 29:27Well, two or three of them.
- 29:29Yeah.
- 29:29I was gonna say you replaced some fenders and whatnot.
- 29:32I replaced the fenders, the hood.
- 29:34I've still got the door downstairs that I need to sell with the
- 29:37wheels and a bunch of stuff.
- 29:38Well, Brad, if that hasn't gotten you upset enough, I
- 29:41know you're a bike guy too.
- 29:42You've had plenty of motorcycles and this next one hits not
- 29:46so close to home for you.
- 29:47Were you planning on going to the Berg ring with the motorcycle anytime soon?
- 29:50Yeah, I was gonna go next week, so I probably Oh, nice.
- 29:53Which is really, it really sucks.
- 29:54So I guess I'll just have to stick with the Isle of Man.
- 29:57So article reads, end of an era, the Berg Ring Bans motorcycles from the Nord sfa.
- 30:02That's significant because.
- 30:05S, they have a massive amount of folks that ride bikes on the ring, and I get it.
- 30:10It's a whole safety concern, is the reason why they decided.
- 30:14But more importantly than that, it's not just safety of,
- 30:17okay, well, it's motorcycles running with other motorcycles.
- 30:19Nope.
- 30:20The craziness of the berg ring as it always has been.
- 30:23It's like, yeah, we'll send the cars out and the pedestrians and the motorcyclists
- 30:27and the bicycles and the trucks and anybody that wants to pay to do a tourist
- 30:31lap of the ring, you can just go out and do a lap of the ring and they just send
- 30:34them out and people go varying speed.
- 30:37It's not like a controlled track day when bikes and cars come together, which
- 30:41we'll talk about a little bit later.
- 30:43It's not so good.
- 30:44I don't fault the ring for saying no MAs, but on the same token, maybe they could
- 30:49have handled it a little differently.
- 30:50Instead of just cutting 'em off, they are giving them a couple of events and there's
- 30:55a big bike only event that they do every year that I think is still gonna happen.
- 30:58But as far as during those.
- 31:00Tourist laps that they do.
- 31:01Tourist faran, I believe is the German term for it.
- 31:04That's no longer a thing for motorcyclists cars only.
- 31:07Well, if you're into two wheels, oh boy, they still do the 24 hour
- 31:12bicycle race on the berg ring.
- 31:15That sounds like torture.
- 31:17Sounds amazing.
- 31:18How many laps do they actually get to do?
- 31:20If I'm riding one lap?
- 31:22One lap in 24 hours?
- 31:24It depends who's riding it depends how big your team is.
- 31:26'cause you can be on a 2, 4, 8 person team.
- 31:29Sweet.
- 31:30But yeah, so no fun anymore for bikes at the ring.
- 31:34But to your point, Brad, there's still aisle of man, there's still plenty of
- 31:36other places to go ride your motorcycles.
- 31:38Yeah, it stinks, but I don't disagree.
- 31:41I like you.
- 31:41I feel like they could have handled it differently.
- 31:43They could have had like, like do go a swimming pool, you know, you run cars for
- 31:4750 minutes and then you take 10 minutes.
- 31:50For 20 minutes and let motorcycles run.
- 31:52And then you go back.
- 31:53Adult swim.
- 31:54Yeah, you do a adult ride.
- 31:57There you go.
- 31:57Yeah.
- 31:57But there's a lot of logistics there.
- 31:59'cause now you gotta act like a ski resort and then you gotta have somebody
- 32:02that goes on the back end and goes, all right, this is the last car.
- 32:05Yep.
- 32:06The track's clear.
- 32:06Release the motorcycles.
- 32:08Oh, you mean organized?
- 32:09You're gonna have a time delay in there and it all becomes, it's gonna
- 32:12be organized, logistical nightmare.
- 32:14It's like last rundown.
- 32:15You gotta make sure all the people are down the mountain.
- 32:17Right.
- 32:18It's like, well, you gotta make sure nobody parked their motorcycle on the
- 32:20side and wanted to wait for their buddy and their nine 11 GT three to show up.
- 32:23And then they go racing off together, you know?
- 32:26Good way to get yourself banned.
- 32:27But that's how they do it now, which is apparently what they did
- 32:29because now they're all banned.
- 32:31Well, let's switch back to EVs and concept cars and we'll head to France.
- 32:46Why for, you know, some creep, Suzette.
- 32:48Oh, because for, for what?
- 32:49You guys are lusting after.
- 32:50Yeah.
- 32:51Because it is a giant tease constantly from Renault.
- 32:54With this, we're gonna build the new R five, which is known as the
- 32:59R five Turbo three E. And they are, but they're only gonna make 1,980
- 33:05units, which is a throw to 1980.
- 33:09So they're gonna make 1,980 units of this awesome looking electric hot hatch.
- 33:16They add more a Coutre Mall to this vehicle.
- 33:19Every time I see it, it gets better.
- 33:21They just need to put a motor in it.
- 33:23Like a gasoline motor and sell it.
- 33:26Okay.
- 33:26Make this EV version, but also make a petrol version that looks
- 33:30like this and people will buy it.
- 33:32Maybe it doesn't need 540 horsepower, but maybe it does.
- 33:36You all won't be able to buy it here in the US for another 25 years, of course.
- 33:41So 2052.
- 33:43Why do you have to.
- 33:44Burst my bubble like that, Brad, why you gotta bring in logic and realism
- 33:48and just let me live this French fantasy of owning this super hatchback
- 33:53That ties into our, what should I buy?
- 33:55Episode.
- 33:55We just, I know, I know.
- 33:58A nice little intro there for folks as they get to tune in
- 34:00for the rest of the season.
- 34:01This is the hotness.
- 34:02This isn't just a hot hatch.
- 34:04This is El Fuego.
- 34:05This is the hotness.
- 34:06This thing is awesome.
- 34:07That's what they should call it.
- 34:08El Fuego.
- 34:09They had a Reno Fuego.
- 34:10It was terrible.
- 34:11Go look it up.
- 34:13It was hot trash.
- 34:14It was terrible.
- 34:16Hot cottage.
- 34:17Well, here's another de do moment.
- 34:19Did anybody not expect this?
- 34:21You know, there's reports that say that by the year 20 30, 90 6% of
- 34:25new vehicles will be connected cars.
- 34:27You know, having built-in wifi, connectivity, access to all your
- 34:31services and whatever devices.
- 34:33But of course.
- 34:34It comes with a cost because all that stuff is subscription based.
- 34:38Cool.
- 34:38Yeah.
- 34:39Every car has all this from a Kia to a Bentley, but recent reports would suggest
- 34:45that 76% of people in their survey that they did actually don't want any of it.
- 34:49'cause they don't want to guess what paid the subscription fee.
- 34:54Here's a novel idea.
- 34:55Somebody buys a car, they pick and choose the features and stuff that they want.
- 34:59It comes with the car.
- 35:01They buy it and then that's it.
- 35:02No, you don't have to pay anything else ever again.
- 35:05And we've talked about this too.
- 35:06We've moved away from that model in life.
- 35:07Everything is microtransaction based and they're just trying
- 35:11to do it in the cars too.
- 35:13Oh, you want your heated seats?
- 35:14Here's the subscription.
- 35:15You wanna be able to use your windshield wipers in the rain.
- 35:18Here's the subscription.
- 35:19You wanna listen to the radio.
- 35:20Another subscription.
- 35:21So I've got a logistics question.
- 35:24Uhhuh, from a manufacturing perspective, is it more cost
- 35:28effective to build all the cars with all the features already built in?
- 35:32Like for example, the one Tanya just said, heated seats.
- 35:35You build the cars, you put the seats with the heated seats in, and
- 35:39then charge people to turn it on.
- 35:40Or is it cheaper to save on the materials and have some cars with the heated seats?
- 35:45In some cars without the heated seats, like, which is more cost effective.
- 35:49So I've always argued that long term it's cheaper to have all the features
- 35:54in there and then have them disabled than it is to have cars with and without
- 35:59because they make them so hard to update backdate because what are you gonna do?
- 36:03Like as an example of our, you run a new loom for your heated seats.
- 36:07Yeah.
- 36:08You're gonna run your own wiring for heated seats, just put the wiring in
- 36:11there and then it doesn't, you know, there's not a switch to activate it,
- 36:14which is actually the point of a video I saw on Instagram the other day.
- 36:17A guy has a newer BMW and he's getting around some of these things because
- 36:21they put what would be a physical plate for like buttons and it has no buttons.
- 36:26But he realized inside of there there's like a little control board.
- 36:29So he 3D printed these little like actuators and he made like the fog
- 36:34lights work and he made some other stuff work that like had no physical
- 36:37buttons that were quote unquote subscription only because again,
- 36:41the computer is just turning on a circuit, on something mechanical.
- 36:45He was able to get around it and I said, that's gonna happen.
- 36:48Then they're gonna be like, oh, that's like piring the car, blah, blah.
- 36:51We're gonna come after you void your warranty.
- 36:53Yeah, yeah.
- 36:53FBI warning.
- 36:55Right.
- 36:55Although it's not anything that already hasn't been happening because cars
- 37:00that are sold in Europe are different.
- 37:03Slightly, yes.
- 37:04And the car sold in the US take the comfort climate control switch that I
- 37:09need to install in my mark for in Europe.
- 37:11Was a standard feature that you could have one touch turn signals, not a standard
- 37:16feature on the US cars, however you can get the module and install it on the US
- 37:21based car because all the stuff is there.
- 37:22Yep.
- 37:23This has already been happening.
- 37:25They already do this.
- 37:27They're just making more work for themselves at the end of the day.
- 37:29I mean, I think I agree that it's probably long term cheaper if you
- 37:33just put everything in there and then you either turn it on or off
- 37:36or you hide it, but it's also.
- 37:39Why they had packages and cars, right?
- 37:41Like, yep.
- 37:41To your point, Brad, of I wanna be able to choose what I want.
- 37:44Well, it's okay.
- 37:44Well, I want the midnight murder edition, and that comes with, you know,
- 37:49X, Y, Z, other features and duh duh.
- 37:51Or I just want the Conno Box Toaster edition, and I have
- 37:55roller crank windows still in it.
- 37:57Yeah.
- 37:57I think though we should make the distinction with these cars that the
- 38:00interior stuff should be all the same.
- 38:03All the creature comforts all the human stuff.
- 38:06Touch the button, get this, the heated seats, the heated
- 38:09mirrors, the power window.
- 38:10Like that chef should be standard.
- 38:12I think the exterior packages should be optional.
- 38:15Do you want the midnight murdered out, no Chrome Edition?
- 38:18Do you want the big wheels?
- 38:19Do you want big breaks?
- 38:20Do you want stuff that can be bolted on to the basic car that you don't
- 38:25necessarily need for every day?
- 38:27But as a commuter, as a driver?
- 38:29And I think that's the other thing too, is the Europeans especially.
- 38:32They drive, but they don't drive as far as we do.
- 38:36And, and I'm gonna just lay that out there.
- 38:38America's a lot bigger and we do go a lot more distances in our cars.
- 38:42You know, it's not like a hop, skip and a junk from the DC area to Florida.
- 38:46I mean, granted, we can get on a plane, but the thing is, if you're taking these
- 38:49long trips like we're used to in America.
- 38:52You want those things, you might not need them.
- 38:54You know you live in Texas, but that one time you went to Denver
- 38:58to visit your friend and it was freezing 'cause you were skiing.
- 39:00It's nice to hit the button to turn the heated seats on.
- 39:03Even though 99.9% of the time in Dallas, you don't ever use them.
- 39:08Just give me the stuff and I'll use it when I want to.
- 39:10Well then that feeds into their subscription based model because
- 39:1499.1% of the time I'm not using it.
- 39:17But that 0.9%, uh, let me just pay the month subscription.
- 39:21'cause I'm gonna be skiing this month.
- 39:23Cars shouldn't have micro transactions because how much did you pay?
- 39:27As we talked about many times for that Tesla, for that F-150,
- 39:30for that nine 11 for the BMW.
- 39:31You're a hundred thousand dollars into this car and now you want me to pay 4
- 39:3599 for the heated seats for a month.
- 39:37Hell yeah, get outta here.
- 39:38But they're brainwashing people into that because every other
- 39:41aspect of their life is that way.
- 39:43It's awful.
- 39:44It needs to stop their third appendage.
- 39:46I call it the digital enslavement device.
- 39:50Or whatever the extension of their hand, the cell phone is nothing
- 39:54but a microtransaction suck.
- 39:57They had to try.
- 39:58They all had to try, right?
- 39:59They had to try and get on the bandwagon and see if they could
- 40:02make it work, but unfortunately.
- 40:04This is an area where, yes, people spend a lot of time in the car,
- 40:07but at the same time they don't spend as much time as other things.
- 40:10So I don't think they're willing to pay for that kind of stuff because
- 40:13their digital enslavement device, they're staring at that while they're
- 40:17driving, not anything else in the car.
- 40:19So what the hell do they need all these other special features for?
- 40:21'cause they're just staring at their phone anyway, going down the road.
- 40:24They're warming you up to the idea of the autonomous vehicle.
- 40:28That too.
- 40:29And like a lot of those futuristic shows, you know, you watch like upload or you
- 40:33watch, you know, the new this, the new that, whatever it is, and they're like,
- 40:36oh, hello John Smith, blah blah, you're on your way to the blah blah blah.
- 40:40Would you like me to queue up this for you?
- 40:41And then it's like B deducted from your bank account because you know it's part
- 40:45of that concierge service now rather than part of the driving experience to
- 40:50have those, you know, creature S Can you imagine you could get into your car
- 40:53and it knows your order so it already contacts Starbucks as soon as you get
- 40:57in the car and your order's there and then you drive through the touchless
- 41:01personless drive through, it's Starbucks and it goes chaching deducted and
- 41:05then you pick it up out of the window and you just keep going on your way.
- 41:08There are people right now going, yes, yes.
- 41:10Yes, I want that.
- 41:11This is like the smart water bottle.
- 41:13Some things should be dumb.
- 41:15You Boomer.
- 41:16I'm a Neanderthal.
- 41:17That's what it is.
- 41:18This is like that episode of Black Mirror.
- 41:20All the people are riding the bicycle like, and they have to,
- 41:23to ride the bike to generate Yes.
- 41:25You know, points to do things.
- 41:26And then they spin their points, Dogecoin, their government efficiency coins.
- 41:30And then they're dicks.
- 41:33No, they're, they're dicks.
- 41:36I've merged the Doge in the efficiency coins.
- 41:39Sorry, this is scary to me is what it is.
- 41:42What you guys are talking about.
- 41:44It's very scary.
- 41:45And you're a hundred percent right because if it works with cars.
- 41:48Generally it works with other things.
- 41:49You can already pay $5,000 for a refrigerator that it
- 41:52will tell you what's in it.
- 41:54It's connected to wifi, Bluetooth, whatever to your phone.
- 41:58And I think it can create like a grocery list.
- 42:00'cause it knows you're low on milk and gives you a warning,
- 42:02Hey, you need to buy milk.
- 42:04So what stops it from going, Instacart needs gallon of milk.
- 42:07Do, do, do, do.
- 42:08And then boom, you have a milk delivery at your door.
- 42:11Again, there are people going, yes, yes, I want this.
- 42:13I need this in my life.
- 42:15And they're the same people in the movie Wally that are just.
- 42:20In the wheelchair thing, more like Idiocracy watching the nut Punch videos.
- 42:25There you go.
- 42:26I have a sure fire way to see what's in my refrigerator and know when
- 42:32I need to go grocery shopping.
- 42:33Here we go.
- 42:34It's really simple.
- 42:35I walk over to the refrigerator, it takes me about 10 steps.
- 42:40I open it and I use these things called eyeballs.
- 42:43No, but look at all that energy you're wasting by having the door open to look
- 42:47if the fridge can just tell you or have a camera for you to view inside it.
- 42:52You know, Tanya, it must be my new health conscious lifestyle that is
- 42:56driving this non laziness for me.
- 42:58I'm sorry I, I know that's not majority of the the world.
- 43:01You got it all wrong guys.
- 43:03See, this is where.
- 43:04Married life comes into play.
- 43:06You learn the game and you turn to your significant other and you say,
- 43:10Hey honey, go check the fridge.
- 43:12Do we have any mustard?
- 43:13And they go, Nope.
- 43:14And you go, okay.
- 43:15I didn't even waste the trip to the refrigerator.
- 43:17Look, I don't need a smart refrigerator.
- 43:18I got a smart spouse.
- 43:20What the hell do I what I need on this electronics?
- 43:22But what Eric isn't telling you is he's asking his smart spouse from his
- 43:26office, she's sitting on the couch in the living room, he's asking her
- 43:30a question to go check the fridge.
- 43:32She doesn't get up.
- 43:33She just says no.
- 43:34And now Eric has four bottles of mustard.
- 43:37There's a Samsung refrigerator meme that says the Samsung's new fridge will ping
- 43:41your phone if you leave the door open.
- 43:43And the reply is.
- 43:44Why the fuck doesn't it just close the door itself if it's so smart?
- 43:50The next thing they put hydraulic openers on the, like, the Rolls
- 43:53Royces and a fridge will cost $5,000.
- 43:56No, I, I got it.
- 43:57So, so I figured out how me as a layman who doesn't have a smart
- 44:01fridge, can see what's in my fridge without having to get up.
- 44:05I put my GoPro in the refrigerator
- 44:10because I've got a GoPro lying around.
- 44:12I put that in the refrigerator and I just queue it up and I can use
- 44:16the GoPro app to my phone and then I can pull it up and say, Hey.
- 44:19We're outta beer.
- 44:20Well, this next one is actually something smart for change.
- 44:24I came across this article, I found it fascinating.
- 44:27I was like, wow.
- 44:28Something I can kind of nerd out on.
- 44:30And coming at the heels of a lot of these EVs being in production for over a decade
- 44:36now, and it talks about how firms are putting a new spin, pun intended, on EV
- 44:42motor technology and how they're trying to recycle and harvest materials out of older
- 44:47EV motors into these new designs that they have and how much more efficient these new
- 44:51motors are, and how much more power they can generate and all this kind of stuff.
- 44:53So I won't get into all the technical details, but the punchline is.
- 44:58As we've always said, EVs are extremely wasteful because of all
- 45:02the precious materials that are used to create them, not to mention
- 45:07their detriment to the environment.
- 45:08You know, harvesting all these rare earth metals and all this kinda stuff.
- 45:10So these firms like zf, you know, one of our favorite German
- 45:14manufacturers is working on.
- 45:16How do we take these older motors apart, reuse some of the pieces, you know,
- 45:20recycle them down, melt them down, turn 'em into something else, whatever it is.
- 45:24And so I thought this was actually really cool and I just wanted to share it.
- 45:27Obviously this is a great idea, but isn't this something that ice manufacturers
- 45:31have been doing with ice cars?
- 45:33The cars go to the junkyard, they get broken down to their raw materials.
- 45:37Aren't those materials recycled and then put back into other things?
- 45:41Why do you have to come in with that pin again and burst my balloon
- 45:44with this logic and realism?
- 45:47No, absolutely.
- 45:47Now, the thing is there are rare earth metals in things like catalytic
- 45:51converters, but it's not nearly the same amount of quantity or
- 45:55quality that that exists in an ev.
- 45:57So they have to go about it in a completely different way to recycle.
- 46:00Of course.
- 46:01I feel like ironing out the recycling process years ago would've been smart.
- 46:06Yeah.
- 46:07Is that the point of this article?
- 46:09Probably not.
- 46:09Well, it is and it isn't because I thought they were also talking about
- 46:12using a whole other motor technology.
- 46:15Correct.
- 46:15I only skimmed through it.
- 46:17So magnets.
- 46:18But they're magnets made from rare earth elements, but then those earth elements
- 46:23are actually recyclable and they could remake magnets once the magnets wear down.
- 46:27Correct.
- 46:28And so you kind of have this.
- 46:29Cyclical never ending.
- 46:31I mean, sure, sure.
- 46:32At some point you get to a point where you've lost enough of it that
- 46:35you need to replenish with new.
- 46:37But that's interesting.
- 46:38If they're coming up with a different motor technology that's not necessarily
- 46:41relying on what they're doing today.
- 46:43Exactly.
- 46:44Still doesn't solve the problem of mining for rare earth
- 46:47metals for the batteries yet.
- 46:48That hasn't changed yet, although there's a whole fit, Panasonic and lg, and there's
- 46:53all these new batteries that are coming that are not supposed to be lithium based,
- 46:56but we've heard about that for the last.
- 46:57Five years.
- 46:58So who knows?
- 46:59Well these things take time.
- 47:00They do.
- 47:01Well now it's time we move on to Lost and Found.
- 47:03Brad's favorite part of the drive through where we try to see what
- 47:08Chuck led Duck and Gray Chevrolet have to offer us this month.
- 47:12Well, I'm not going to cars.com, but I will see that apparently there was
- 47:16an abandoned Ford Escort Cosworth.
- 47:18Two of them actually.
- 47:20Yeah.
- 47:20One only has 12 and a half thousand miles on it.
- 47:23And as we learned from an upcoming, what should I buy episode, the Brits go nuts
- 47:28for anything with a Cosworth badge on it.
- 47:30Right.
- 47:30Correction.
- 47:31Apparently the Brits go wild or anything with a blue oval on it.
- 47:35Not necessarily just, yeah, that's true.
- 47:37For whatever reason, they loved them over there.
- 47:39So these cleaned up, got running again.
- 47:41They will sell for a pretty penny, so they are projecting the cars
- 47:45could fetch over a hundred grand.
- 47:47Then someone could take that money and buy a civic.
- 47:49Ain't that the truth?
- 47:50Mm-hmm.
- 47:51All right.
- 47:51Continuing with Lost and Frown.
- 47:52Brad, this was another one you brought us.
- 47:54It's from Haggerty, according to you, you being, not you Brad, but
- 47:59the audience cars that never got the engines that they deserve.
- 48:02And I went through this extremely long list.
- 48:05I didn't really need to go past the first one on this list.
- 48:08The Dodge Dart.
- 48:09Yeah.
- 48:10So I love the writeup on this where the crowd is saying, oh, the modern
- 48:15Dart should have got basically Alpha's one T that came in the four C and
- 48:20blah blah blah, and this and that.
- 48:21And you know this.
- 48:22And I'm like, another four banger.
- 48:24Who cares?
- 48:25Put a V six in this thing, put a straight six in it, five cylinder.
- 48:28I don't care.
- 48:29Ooh, a five cylinder would be cool.
- 48:31Yeah, yeah.
- 48:31Don't take a 1.4 turbo and then say, oh, I'm gonna put a 1.8 turbo in it.
- 48:37Like.
- 48:37Really, 400 cc does not make that big of a difference.
- 48:40You can turn up the wick on those Abarth motors pretty high and make really good
- 48:44horsepower if you're gonna do something, put a six cylinder in it, what it really
- 48:47should have had, because the Dodge Dart actually wasn't a bad looking car.
- 48:51It was a pretty cool looking car.
- 48:52You know, if I was in the market for a little, a little con car, yeah,
- 48:55I would've probably considered it.
- 48:56They should have made an SRT version with the motor from the, the SRT neon.
- 49:01Yeah, for sure.
- 49:01The, what was it, the two liter or 2.5 liter or whatever it was.
- 49:04The turbo motor.
- 49:05The Perche motor, yeah.
- 49:06That is what they should have put in this car.
- 49:08Yeah, I agree with that.
- 49:09A thousand percent, but they just never did.
- 49:11Yeah, they did the Abarth motor instead because fiat, and that's that.
- 49:15Although those 1.4 liter turbos, they sound really good.
- 49:18They're really throaty for what they are.
- 49:20But again, it's a front wheel drive, like you know what
- 49:23you're getting yourself into.
- 49:24Yeah.
- 49:24It's ANCA car.
- 49:25It's not meant to be anything else but Anca car.
- 49:27There's all the usual suspects on this list.
- 49:29The Fiero, the Prowler.
- 49:32I was surprised by the Citro and Ds and the Cadillac ante.
- 49:36And then there were things like the Fiat X one nine should
- 49:38have had a different engine.
- 49:39And I just sort of scoffed at that going.
- 49:41Yeah.
- 49:42And what did Fiat have in 1973 when the X one nine came out, other
- 49:46than a one and a half liter engine?
- 49:48Like, give me a break.
- 49:50What are you gonna put in it?
- 49:51And then there was some talk about the Panther chassis, which
- 49:53is, you know, your Crown vs.
- 49:55Which I think is dumb.
- 49:56I think the Crown Vic was fine with the 4.6.
- 49:58Yeah.
- 49:58It was built for longevity, not for performance.
- 50:00Exactly.
- 50:00You could get the performance version, which was the mercury marauder,
- 50:03which did have the modular motor, uh, make it 300 plus horsepower.
- 50:07So quit crying about it.
- 50:09If that's not what the car was designed for.
- 50:10Some vehicles are designed for certain purposes and they don't need all of that.
- 50:14And then one, one that kind of got me here is the cc.
- 50:17Yep.
- 50:17I thought there was a V six cc.
- 50:19Yeah.
- 50:19You read that too, right?
- 50:20Because I was, I read that and went, did you guys not realize
- 50:23it came with a 3.6 liter VR six?
- 50:26Hello?
- 50:27I don't know.
- 50:27That was sort of a stupid nomination there.
- 50:30Then there's the, one of all, the ones, the most obvious one outside of all the
- 50:34malaise era cars, which there's a reason why those cars got those pathetic engines
- 50:39that they had, you know, the gas crisis.
- 50:41We've talked about that on what should I buy as before?
- 50:43It's the DeLorean.
- 50:44Yeah.
- 50:44We all know should have got a bigger motor.
- 50:47There were reasons for that too.
- 50:48So my argument to a lot of this is.
- 50:51Some of these cars are old enough now.
- 50:54Do the swap.
- 50:55Yeah.
- 50:55Or they've already been done.
- 50:56People putting Hellcat engines and LSS and every, it's Ls swap the world folks.
- 51:01If you have the money in the wherewithal, you can take any of these, I hate to
- 51:05call them gutless wonders, but they are.
- 51:07And turn them into something awesome because that technology,
- 51:11those engines that we want them to come with didn't exist until way
- 51:15after they were out of production.
- 51:17So it was a nice little fluff piece going down that little tangent.
- 51:21You know what would be really cool?
- 51:22In a DeLorean, what's that?
- 51:23A two, Jay-Z, A big turbo.
- 51:25Straight six Toyota, two Jay-Z and a DeLorean.
- 51:27I don't know that it would fit back there.
- 51:30No, I, I don't, I've never seen the back.
- 51:31Two Jay Z's pretty long.
- 51:33It is the DeLorean's big, but it doesn't have that much space back there.
- 51:36Like it'll fit a V eight because the, like a LS is tight, but yeah.
- 51:40Uh, in line six, I don't think you're getting it back there.
- 51:43Okay, well nevermind then.
- 51:44It's a good idea though.
- 51:45I like it.
- 51:45I mean, you know, we could just cut the back of it off and
- 51:47just have it hang out there.
- 51:48So it's all good.
- 51:49I mean, you could.
- 51:51That's an option.
- 51:51Alright, well we said we weren't gonna talk about Tesla,
- 51:57but this month it's unavoidable.
- 51:59We have to talk about this one, right?
- 52:01Tanya?
- 52:01You know what, we'll talk about the two things.
- 52:03We'll talk about the first one, which is a public service announcement To
- 52:05those of you out there who have elected for reasons that you can keep to
- 52:09yourself about purchasing a cyber truck.
- 52:12But if you have, there is a total recall
- 52:17on every single cyber truck that's been produced and sold due to.
- 52:22Exterior panels, trim pieces in particular that may detach themselves
- 52:28from the vehicle at any point in time, including when driving weight savings.
- 52:32So please make sure you get into a service station to get that
- 52:35fixed before you injure somebody.
- 52:38So wait a minute, is there a Tesla service station?
- 52:40There is one in that WH and Diesel video.
- 52:43I have seen some and there's normally a tremendous amount of
- 52:46Teslas parked in the parking lot.
- 52:48I don't know what that means.
- 52:49Well, the Tesla's not selling them, so they need a place to put 'em.
- 52:51So they just park 'em in the service station?
- 52:53No, they're recalling them.
- 52:54Oh yeah, they're recalling all of them.
- 52:55All the ones that they did sell.
- 52:57The ones they can't sell, they're just sitting there.
- 52:59It's like the Ford F two fifties sitting in mall parking lots and stuff,
- 53:02because chips, I think a lot of people are hoping that they're just going
- 53:05to stay there when they recall them and maybe crush them or something.
- 53:09I think nowadays that might be the case.
- 53:10So somebody brought up a good point about that too, is what happens to the cyber
- 53:14trucks that have been wrapped or painted?
- 53:16Is Tesla gonna pay to have those wraps redone?
- 53:20No.
- 53:20Those are actually being held together by the wrap, so they're probably more stable.
- 53:23Oh, oh, the, the adhesive from the wrap is better than the Elmer's glue that.
- 53:27Tesla used originally.
- 53:29You got it.
- 53:30Moving on from that, there is an interesting article.
- 53:33This is so good, that was posted by Electric and it's discussing this
- 53:37YouTube video from a former, I think NASA engineer now turned, you know,
- 53:43YouTuber as everybody does at a certain point in their life apparently.
- 53:46But the point of the video and his assessment was to compare LIDAR
- 53:52versus the camera system of a Tesla.
- 53:55You guys watch this?
- 53:56I did.
- 53:56I did.
- 53:57Yes.
- 53:57So it was 18 minutes long for those, they might be interested.
- 54:00The first about eight minutes of it actually had nothing to do with Nope.
- 54:04Typical YouTube garbage people stop watching.
- 54:06So they didn't actually see what happened because they broke the seven minute mark.
- 54:10Yeah, so it was about eight minutes and 30 seconds of nothing to do with the cars.
- 54:13It had to do with Lidar technology, but as it was applied to.
- 54:18Taking Lidar footage of Space Mountain at Disney World and the Haunted Mansion
- 54:22ride, which if you're into that kind of stuff, I found the Haunted Mansion part.
- 54:26Interesting.
- 54:26'cause I didn't realize how far away the ride actually was to the entrance
- 54:32outside of the park fence line.
- 54:35At any rate.
- 54:36Fast forward about eight minute 30, where he then starts to go into
- 54:40a comparison test between a Lidar vehicle and a Tesla model three.
- 54:44It was a model Y. They all looked the same, correct?
- 54:46It was a model Y. So basically he ran it through six different tests,
- 54:50which were pretty interesting, trying to simulate real world events.
- 54:53The first test was stationary.
- 54:55Dummy of a child in the road.
- 54:57Can the lidar see it?
- 54:59Can the Tesla camera see it?
- 55:00Both the cars were able to see the random child object
- 55:04that was standing in the road.
- 55:05No problem.
- 55:06Then they did the test.
- 55:07Of course, the child that shoots out in front of the road from behind another car,
- 55:11you know, stimulating that neighborhood experience you might get that is so fake
- 55:14because kids don't play outside anymore.
- 55:16So that is not a valid use case.
- 55:19That was an unrepresentative use case.
- 55:21Could be a, a dog.
- 55:22I guess that's when they, when they start adding player characters to fours.
- 55:26A horizon.
- 55:26Yeah.
- 55:27There you go.
- 55:28And speaking of dogs, if you own an all black dog, please don't let it
- 55:32out on the street at six o'clock in the morning when it's dark outside,
- 55:36because it's really hard to see when it's standing at the edge of the road.
- 55:40Not if you have xito light bulbs.
- 55:42I don't think I would've seen it even with those.
- 55:45The dog was not harmed.
- 55:46It was busy sniffing at a tree.
- 55:48Any rate.
- 55:49So second test, child running out, both passed it.
- 55:51Then it gets interesting.
- 55:52They tried to simulate fog or whatever.
- 55:55So they had fog machine, da, da, da, lidar, wind, Tesla,
- 55:59camera fails, which was awesome.
- 56:02And then I knew the next one, it was like rain.
- 56:05I was like, this is gonna be exactly the same, which was a deluge of rain that they
- 56:10shot like three different fire hoses out.
- 56:12Was not representative of a normal rain situation, though
- 56:16it could be representative driving through a hurricane.
- 56:17Lidar winds, Tesla fails.
- 56:20Then they did the xito headlight test.
- 56:22Yeah, the xito headlight challenge, which I actually was kind of wondering
- 56:26if the Tesla was gonna make it or not.
- 56:28But they both passed that test.
- 56:29I will say the lidar passed all the tests better.
- 56:32I think it stopped sooner.
- 56:34It recognized, yes, the object faster than the cameras.
- 56:37And then there was the final test.
- 56:39So funny, which, oh God.
- 56:41Which was, which was the hook kind of on the whole article.
- 56:45'cause it's Tesla autopilot drives into Wiley E Coyote, fake road
- 56:49wall in camera verse lidar test.
- 56:51And they literally set up a fake wall.
- 56:54Very much Looney tune styles that blended in with the background of what they were.
- 56:59But to the human eye, you instantly could see the guy wires holding this wall up.
- 57:05You, you knew that there was a wall there.
- 57:07So what do we think happened?
- 57:10I know what happens besides what the title says.
- 57:14Wiley Coyote hit the wall.
- 57:15Wiley Coyote not only hit the wall, went through the wall, it was like
- 57:19a styrofoam wall and everything.
- 57:21Obviously, he didn't wreck his Tesla for this.
- 57:23I mean, it just goes to show the superiority of the Lidar system because.
- 57:27As he said in the video, the lidar doesn't care what you had painted on the wall.
- 57:31The lidar knows there's something there that shouldn't be there.
- 57:34The camera couldn't distinguish that it was fake.
- 57:38It just saw, oh, open road.
- 57:40It couldn't tell that that was an object Impeding the lane of travel.
- 57:44So it blew right through.
- 57:45It didn't even hit the brakes.
- 57:46Not only that, the lidar could penetrate through stuff, which was part of what
- 57:49they were showing even at the night vision where it was picking up things.
- 57:53If you notice it was lighting up things on the side of the road because it's lidar.
- 57:56Right?
- 57:56Right.
- 57:56So it's, it's getting that resonance back so it knows where objects
- 58:00are, regardless of what's going on.
- 58:01So it could have done the Wiley Coyote test in the dark?
- 58:05Oh yeah.
- 58:05With the headlights off in all the conditions.
- 58:07The rain could, you could've done every condition and the lidar would've won.
- 58:10Overall, the Tesla would've gone through every time.
- 58:13A hundred percent.
- 58:13Two points.
- 58:14One, didn't Elon say something about Lidar being dumb or stupid, or not
- 58:19usable or, or something like that?
- 58:21Wasn't he quoted saying something like that?
- 58:22They were never gonna use anything but cameras on the Tesla is what
- 58:25he, I believe he said, yeah.
- 58:27For some reason, I thought he said, like, specifically said something
- 58:29about lidar not being good at technology or something like that.
- 58:33And two to the Tesla's defense, 90% of the drivers out there in in the world
- 58:42would not have been paying attention enough to see that it was a Wiley coyote
- 58:45wall and they would've hit it as well.
- 58:49I don't, I don't know that that's necessarily, that's probably
- 58:51true when you're looking at TikTok instead of driving.
- 58:54You probably would've driven through it.
- 58:56Yeah.
- 58:56I mean, if you're on the road, you're doing about 50 miles an hour.
- 59:00I mean, unless your situational awareness is where ours is, I can
- 59:04see how Joe Blow soccer dad ends up just driving right through it.
- 59:08'cause it was pretty convincing.
- 59:09And they did a really good job with the wall.
- 59:11I will say, I believe in the early, early days of Tesla, I thought
- 59:15they started out with radar, if not a mix of radar and camera.
- 59:18And then he basically, I think at some point was like, well, the radar
- 59:22technology's not here, so we're gonna go camera, we're gonna double
- 59:25down, quadruple down, quintuple down.
- 59:28And I think he's so dug in that the cameras are superior.
- 59:32He doesn't wanna backtrack, although like what does he care?
- 59:35'cause he is happy to backtrack on anything, I think.
- 59:37But I don't know what it is that they're so dug into the cameras, but it's
- 59:41like, come on the Lidars way superior.
- 59:44Can you record Lidar footage and sell it?
- 59:48No.
- 59:49No.
- 59:49You cannot have your Tesla watch your neighbors doing inappropriate
- 59:54things for others to be viewing through their front windows.
- 59:57From the driveway.
- 59:58Correct.
- 59:59Inside or correct outside the car.
- 1:00:01Do there, but your Tesla is always recording.
- 1:00:04Yeah.
- 1:00:04It's ridiculous.
- 1:00:04And it's doing something with that data.
- 1:00:06But the car is using lidar.
- 1:00:08I mean, they're not recording the lidar.
- 1:00:09No.
- 1:00:09It's just, it's live.
- 1:00:10It's what?
- 1:00:11So I think that's, that's good point.
- 1:00:12Think that's one of the reasons.
- 1:00:13I mean, it's storing data and data is money.
- 1:00:16There you go.
- 1:00:17There we have it.
- 1:00:18The other thing that came out of this also was some further investigation
- 1:00:21about the autopilot system.
- 1:00:23And in a situation like this, whether or not it was true or false, that
- 1:00:28it disengages and they prove that it disengages right before it figured out
- 1:00:32that it was gonna have an accident.
- 1:00:33It's too late.
- 1:00:34Yeah.
- 1:00:34There's been arguments about, oh no, well autopilot, you know,
- 1:00:37blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:00:38So I'm like, okay, we're, we're just gonna leave that where it is.
- 1:00:41But I think we already know where things stand with respect to autonomous driving.
- 1:00:45You can't do it with camera alone.
- 1:00:46There's no way you're gonna have access.
- 1:00:48You're gonna kill people.
- 1:00:49But the thing is, it's not only that, it's the liability on Tesla that
- 1:00:53basically they caught it on camera as the system disengaged itself.
- 1:00:57So then if you looked at the black box recorder, autopilot wasn't
- 1:01:02engaged at the time of the accident.
- 1:01:04Now the liability's back on the driver because they weren't
- 1:01:07handling the car correctly.
- 1:01:08Well yeah, of course.
- 1:01:09'cause you were always supposed to have your hands on the wheel.
- 1:01:11You're supposed to still be paying attention.
- 1:01:12Well, if I had to fucking pay attention and put my hands on
- 1:01:15the wheel, then I'll just drive.
- 1:01:16Then I might as well be driving the car.
- 1:01:18Difficult.
- 1:01:18I know.
- 1:01:18It's like smart water, which is why autopilot it does not exist.
- 1:01:22No, it does not.
- 1:01:22And I won't get on my soapbox.
- 1:01:24It sounds like the Tesla people say, let go, let God.
- 1:01:27The Tesla did the same thing.
- 1:01:28You got to the point where it's like, I'm gonna let go.
- 1:01:30Let God Jesus take the wheel.
- 1:01:32Jesus took the wheel right through the wall.
- 1:01:33Well, that's unfortunate.
- 1:01:35Lower expectation.
- 1:01:41I read this next article and I just said, is this a Daniel thing?
- 1:01:46The only thing I could say is, stop buying cars on Facebook.
- 1:01:48Marketplace.
- 1:01:49I would never buy a car on Facebook.
- 1:01:51Marketplace.
- 1:01:52I would never buy a car site unseen.
- 1:01:54Go put your hands on it.
- 1:01:55Go see it.
- 1:01:56To verify it.
- 1:01:56Do your Carfax.
- 1:01:57Like, I know all that stuff is annoying, but you know what?
- 1:02:00I don't wanna deal with individual sellers anymore.
- 1:02:03I will go to CarMax, I will go to whatever.
- 1:02:06I just don't wanna deal with it anymore.
- 1:02:08Right.
- 1:02:09I don't wanna deal with the hassle.
- 1:02:10And I know, Brad, you just sold your car privately and all that.
- 1:02:12I'm not trying to say anything.
- 1:02:14No, I didn't sell it privately.
- 1:02:15Wait, how'd you sell it?
- 1:02:16Carvana.
- 1:02:16You sold your car on Carvana.
- 1:02:18Ooh, they came and picked it up.
- 1:02:20Damn.
- 1:02:20Just like the commercials.
- 1:02:21They came and picked it up.
- 1:02:23I didn't wanna deal with tire kickers and all that bullshit.
- 1:02:25I just like, you know, and they gave me a good deal.
- 1:02:27So I was like, you know what, screw it.
- 1:02:28I mean, they gave me more than I paid for it originally, so.
- 1:02:31Well, they're gonna just take it to auction.
- 1:02:32They're not gonna do anything with it.
- 1:02:33Well, exactly.
- 1:02:34I, I asked the guy, I was like, this car's destined for auction, isn't it?
- 1:02:37And he was like, yeah, I mean, it's too old.
- 1:02:39Too many miles.
- 1:02:40It's too beat up.
- 1:02:41I was honest.
- 1:02:41I put it, it's in rough shape.
- 1:02:43They're gonna take it.
- 1:02:43They're gonna take it straight to auction.
- 1:02:45They're not even gonna mess with it.
- 1:02:46Yeah.
- 1:02:46But whoever gets that car is gonna be lucky.
- 1:02:48'cause it does have the United Motorsports triple tune on it.
- 1:02:51Nice.
- 1:02:51They're lucky.
- 1:02:52Unfortunately, this other gentleman who bought a Ram 2,500 from
- 1:02:57Facebook marketplace, he is out 28 grand and then he was two weeks
- 1:03:01later surrounded by the police.
- 1:03:03That took him and his truck away because it turns out the car was stolen.
- 1:03:07But he didn't know that red flag.
- 1:03:09Number one for me is that it's a 3-year-old Ram 2,500.
- 1:03:14So heavy duty for only $28,000.
- 1:03:17Right.
- 1:03:17That's a red flag to me.
- 1:03:19Well, that's why he jumped all over it.
- 1:03:20He was like, that's a good deal.
- 1:03:21That truck should be easily double that.
- 1:03:23I wouldn't pay 28 grand for that truck.
- 1:03:25Well, no, but think of the mulch you can haul with that truck, Don ya.
- 1:03:28Ah, think of it, that short bed.
- 1:03:30The moral to the story is just stay away from Facebook in general.
- 1:03:33But that's a whole nother conversation for a different podcast, not this one.
- 1:03:36Well, that's unfortunate for that person.
- 1:03:38It is.
- 1:03:38I feel bad because.
- 1:03:40Stuff like that happens all the time.
- 1:03:41And, and I bring it up jokingly about Daniel because he's got a story, his
- 1:03:45first of three Duallies whole transaction and it disappeared in Texas somewhere.
- 1:03:50And I'm like, oh my God, man.
- 1:03:52Like it is what it is.
- 1:03:53But that's really, really unfortunate.
- 1:03:54But do your homework.
- 1:03:56At least run the VIN and make sure the car isn't stolen, because I wouldn't want the
- 1:03:59poppo showing up somewhere along the line.
- 1:04:02Somebody would've flagged it.
- 1:04:03You know what I mean?
- 1:04:04Like where's the title for the vehicle?
- 1:04:06Exactly.
- 1:04:06The title would be in the dealership's name.
- 1:04:08How was he able to title the vehicle or get plates for it
- 1:04:11if he didn't have a title?
- 1:04:13So many questions.
- 1:04:14This story stinks for some reason.
- 1:04:16It does.
- 1:04:16It really does.
- 1:04:17It's a little fishy.
- 1:04:18As we transition into our next segment, I wanna close out lowered expectations
- 1:04:23with the rest of the center story.
- 1:04:25Did you finish it, Tanya?
- 1:04:26Yeah.
- 1:04:27So I did finish the Netflix Sena Docudrama series, whatever we wanna call it.
- 1:04:33The Shusha love story.
- 1:04:34Yeah, Suha love story.
- 1:04:37Um.
- 1:04:37I did not listen yet, unfortunately, to the podcast review.
- 1:04:42So am I giving my comments now or am I waiting till the next time?
- 1:04:47I mean, that's up to you.
- 1:04:48So I will say cinematically and all that stuff.
- 1:04:53I think it was.
- 1:04:54Well executed.
- 1:04:55It was a good production of a, of a show, of a series.
- 1:04:58I mean, his family and everything had, I think, a big hand in the script and,
- 1:05:02and the development of and everything.
- 1:05:03Right.
- 1:05:03I think you can tell that because maybe those that aren't familiar with the Senna
- 1:05:07background wouldn't have picked up on it.
- 1:05:09Or maybe you would, but there was very much a reverence through the whole thing.
- 1:05:13It was almost like it was Jesus Christ on the screen.
- 1:05:17Every time you saw him.
- 1:05:18It was always this passion of the center.
- 1:05:24That's the sequel comes out on Easter, that a Pontius pile and it, it pros
- 1:05:34punches pro.
- 1:05:38Punches pro sent Christ and punches prost.
- 1:05:40Oh my gosh.
- 1:05:41No, but there was definitely just like this awe and this reverence
- 1:05:44constantly and the way the cameras and everything was was on him and he
- 1:05:48was so soft spoken and I don't know.
- 1:05:49And he was kind of, I guess.
- 1:05:51Softer spoken in real life too, but I don't know him, obviously I never
- 1:05:55got to meet him, all that stuff.
- 1:05:57Was he really as nice a guy as they portrayed him to be like off the track?
- 1:06:01On the track?
- 1:06:02I don't think they quite portrayed his, his ego, his red mist, all that
- 1:06:07stuff that he think he could be.
- 1:06:09I think they glossed over a lot of that.
- 1:06:11I don't know if it's true, and you probably talked about it in the
- 1:06:14podcast and I'll have to listen, but.
- 1:06:16After a while toward the end they portrayed his relationship
- 1:06:20with pros to be very chummy.
- 1:06:22And I'm like, did this really happen?
- 1:06:24They're like, suddenly their B, f, F and it like they were hardcore bros on like
- 1:06:29his final day alive and all this stuff.
- 1:06:31And he, it was like prot was the last guy he ever spoke to before
- 1:06:35he died and all this stuff.
- 1:06:36And I'm like, that's like a complete.
- 1:06:38Fricking 180 from what we thought the relationship was.
- 1:06:41Is that even true?
- 1:06:43It's like, was it drama, theatrics, their relationship
- 1:06:47and they were actually chummy?
- 1:06:48Or is it just we threw the chum in there.
- 1:06:51That pro was like, y'all can't make me be the devil here.
- 1:06:55You need to listen to the podcast episode.
- 1:06:57So I'll answer will be revealed.
- 1:06:59That's right.
- 1:07:00So we're gonna put a pin in this and next month you'll come to us
- 1:07:03and tell us what you thought about the three-way crossover between me.
- 1:07:07John Summers, the motoring historian, and William from the Ferrari marketplace.
- 1:07:10So you'll have to let us know.
- 1:07:11I feel like this should just be a segment for the entire season.
- 1:07:14Like we spend like two minutes talking about Tanya's review of
- 1:07:18this and the podcast and like we only get two minutes for it.
- 1:07:21Tune in next week for whatever else happened with the podcast.
- 1:07:25And Tanya, same times, same center channel.
- 1:07:29There you go.
- 1:07:30We have some rich people.
- 1:07:31Fangs sponsored by Garage Style magazine.
- 1:07:33'cause after all, what doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:07:36The only really.
- 1:07:37Bit of important news here that I wanted to point out.
- 1:07:39We got a press release by way of William Met Exotic Car Marketplace.
- 1:07:43Concorso Italiano.
- 1:07:45One of the main events during Car Week over in Monterey is celebrating its
- 1:07:4940th anniversary this year and they've already put tickets on sale to the event.
- 1:07:54These big name Car Week events sell out fast.
- 1:07:57So if you are headed to Monterey this year and you wanna get in on Concorso,
- 1:08:01which is a gorgeous show I attended, the one in 2023, all Italian cars, everything
- 1:08:05you can think of, including some gray markets, get your tickets now because
- 1:08:09they will not be available if you wait to the week of to go check out Concorso.
- 1:08:13So all the details in the show notes, very, very cool stuff.
- 1:08:16So Tanya Brad decided that we were gonna rename Florida Man
- 1:08:21to at least for this month.
- 1:08:23Are you faster than an interceptor?
- 1:08:28So it's time we go down south and talk about Roscoe Pico train.
- 1:08:46Roscoe p Coltrane.
- 1:08:48Apparently Roscoe in North Carolina has just gotten a big upgrade to his vehicle
- 1:08:53fleet in the form of a Ford Mustang V eight interceptor, and the title is
- 1:08:59Feeling Lucky, and I stopped there.
- 1:09:04It's like dirty, hairy.
- 1:09:05Make my day punk.
- 1:09:07And I said, okay, V eight Mustang.
- 1:09:10We're talking high speeds, feeling lucky.
- 1:09:13We've all seen cars and coffee, so maybe
- 1:09:17feeling like you might get away.
- 1:09:21What happens if it's a police interceptor Mustang chasing another Mustang?
- 1:09:25So what you do is you go into a parking lot and then you exit the parking lot.
- 1:09:31The Mustang's Achilles heel.
- 1:09:33Yeah.
- 1:09:33Okay.
- 1:09:34Yeah, you got it.
- 1:09:35See?
- 1:09:35See?
- 1:09:35Well, that's like that shot on Instagram of all the highway patrol Mustangs at
- 1:09:39the parking lot of the police station.
- 1:09:41How many of those survived on exit?
- 1:09:44But you know, this is not uncommon for the state of North Carolina.
- 1:09:48They've, for some reason, always had the fastest cars in the
- 1:09:52country as their highway patrol.
- 1:09:54They had Camaros back in the day.
- 1:09:56They've had Corvettes, they've had all sorts of stuff.
- 1:09:58So did Florida.
- 1:09:59Yeah.
- 1:09:59And so this is not anything new, but to your point, when
- 1:10:03he's sitting in the woods.
- 1:10:04You might have a minute or two before he catches up with you.
- 1:10:08Oh my gosh.
- 1:10:10Well, we are gonna go north actually for a hot second, and uh, I have been to Sunday
- 1:10:16River in Maine, so this one is an idiot.
- 1:10:19You don't sing.
- 1:10:21An idiot, Subaru Impreza driver who decided that he was going
- 1:10:26to try and drive on a ski slope.
- 1:10:29I just wanna know what he was trying to recreate.
- 1:10:32Was it the classic eighties commercial from Audi where they
- 1:10:35drive the 5,000 up the ski slope?
- 1:10:37Or is he trying to recreate the grand tour where they came down the ski slope?
- 1:10:42So which one is it?
- 1:10:43He didn't get very far from what I could tell.
- 1:10:46He basically made it from the little short news clip that they showed.
- 1:10:50He didn't make it up anything.
- 1:10:52He was basically at the bottom of a green at the start of a lift, hit the lift.
- 1:10:56So they say he did like $45,000 of damage to the ski resort, let alone the
- 1:11:02damage to his own car, which apparently was a lot of excessive body damage that
- 1:11:07they didn't show a picture of his car.
- 1:11:0833 years old.
- 1:11:10You should know better.
- 1:11:11Should you though.
- 1:11:12You should.
- 1:11:13You know, if it's a 23-year-old, maybe he's originally from Florida,
- 1:11:18transplanted up from Florida, you, he's a Florida man transplant.
- 1:11:21The Maine doesn't understand how all-wheel drive actually works.
- 1:11:25Know ground clearance is important.
- 1:11:27You know, not street tires.
- 1:11:28Yeah.
- 1:11:28'cause basically deep ruts, I mean, just.
- 1:11:32Buried it, uh, whatever wasn't idiot.
- 1:11:34But that's not how Subaru sells their all-wheel drive systems.
- 1:11:37Some giron take their Subarus out to Roush Creek, the off-road park.
- 1:11:41Oh my God.
- 1:11:42They're lifted.
- 1:11:42Foresters, you know, it's, it's a terrible idea, but they do it
- 1:11:45because Subaru drivers are special.
- 1:11:47Bless their hearts.
- 1:11:48Earlier we talked about the new R eight and we talked about bikes, and we talked
- 1:11:52about bikes and cars coming together.
- 1:11:54I don't even understand what the R eight did to go off the road into a tree.
- 1:11:59Everything in this video is dumb, and then I don't understand.
- 1:12:03The motorcycle had so much time to see what was happening.
- 1:12:07How the fuck did you still run over the debris of the R eight and fall?
- 1:12:11I laughed at that because I was like, what are you doing?
- 1:12:13I mean, obviously this wasn't staged because why do you wreck
- 1:12:16a a hundred thousand dollars car, whatever the RA costs?
- 1:12:18What I saw from the R eight was they were booking pretty good because the
- 1:12:22video starts and the bike's already doing 90, and the Audi's way ahead of him.
- 1:12:27Oh shit.
- 1:12:28You're right.
- 1:12:28Okay.
- 1:12:29Didn't see this pedometer.
- 1:12:30Yeah.
- 1:12:30Yeah, and then he breaks.
- 1:12:32In the middle of the turn at Apex and then the carb gets away from
- 1:12:36him and there's no runoff room.
- 1:12:38So he just wipes out.
- 1:12:40He almost went like straight off.
- 1:12:41Yeah, I don't know what tree he hit 'cause there's no tree there anymore.
- 1:12:44So he obliterated whatever tree that was.
- 1:12:47This is like that F 40 that wrecked like the same thing.
- 1:12:49You know we saw that other video, but to your point, the bike, I laughed 'cause
- 1:12:52I was like, where were you looking?
- 1:12:54There's nobody in the left lane just get outta, you ran over the rear
- 1:12:57bumper and then dropped the bike.
- 1:12:59Like what are you doing?
- 1:13:00Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:13:01It's the most bizarre 30 seconds ever.
- 1:13:04But again, this is why I. Bikes shouldn't mess with cars on the street
- 1:13:07and vice versa because it always ends poorly one way or the other.
- 1:13:12And I'd hate to say, you know, go get your jollies off at the track.
- 1:13:15But unlike the berg ring, we already know cars and bikes
- 1:13:18don't mix, so we don't do that.
- 1:13:20You can go to a track day with a bike.
- 1:13:21I mean, they have bike track days.
- 1:13:23Yes, but this isn't the bike's fault like this all started.
- 1:13:26No, the Audi, yeah, the Audi needs to go to the track too.
- 1:13:28Going to the junkyard.
- 1:13:30We don't know what was happening before.
- 1:13:32This is a clip of that guy's video, so we don't know what Yeah.
- 1:13:35Ass hattery they were doing up until this point.
- 1:13:39And the motorcycle just caught a glimpse right before he nails
- 1:13:42the drive axle or the bumper or whatever that was, uh, in the road.
- 1:13:45He was doing 25 miles an hour.
- 1:13:47So he slowed down from the 90 plus and still hit it.
- 1:13:52Oh God, but still hit it.
- 1:13:54Well, he was doing Dave's of Thunder.
- 1:13:55You're trying to drive through the smoke.
- 1:13:57The other driver too.
- 1:13:58I'm like, okay, first of all, you shouldn't have
- 1:14:00been doing 90 at that curve.
- 1:14:02You should not on that road at all.
- 1:14:04But also, why are you staying in your lane?
- 1:14:07You should have been like cutting.
- 1:14:09Yeah.
- 1:14:09If you could see around the corner, you apex that corner, you don't
- 1:14:12pretend like you're like on a slot car track and try to stay in the lane.
- 1:14:16Just because you have a fast car doesn't mean you can drive it.
- 1:14:18If you're gonna drive illegally, go full illegal.
- 1:14:21Yeah, exactly.
- 1:14:22I mean that car is totaled.
- 1:14:23Hopefully the passenger wasn't injured and the driver wasn't too fiercely injured.
- 1:14:27Alright, now we go back down to Flora.
- 1:14:31Actually, I don't, what did, where did that one take place?
- 1:14:33Where were we with the R eight?
- 1:14:35Did it even say no?
- 1:14:36It, I don't think it did.
- 1:14:38I don't think it said, we don't know.
- 1:14:39We were somewhere where that happened.
- 1:14:41We were on earth.
- 1:14:42Maybe we don't know where we were, but now we're going to florid.
- 1:14:45Oh my.
- 1:14:46And you know, we, we haven't had one of these in a while, so we are due
- 1:14:50three months into 2025 and we hadn't had a beer fueled stolen ambulance
- 1:14:56chase, but here it is, folks.
- 1:14:59Oh God.
- 1:14:59Bingo.
- 1:15:01Bingo.
- 1:15:01You got your Florida Bingo card at my card is complete.
- 1:15:04Bingo Dodge Dart at NASA Space Flight Center.
- 1:15:09We got 'em all now we've checked all the boxes and I don't even
- 1:15:13need to say anything else.
- 1:15:14I. He steals an ambulance, he's drunk, he goes on a chase, they catch him.
- 1:15:19You know, it's typical Saturday night things.
- 1:15:22Yes, but what were the cops driving?
- 1:15:24That's what's really important.
- 1:15:25Now that's what we need to focus on, not the mustang va interceptors.
- 1:15:30So what you're saying was he had a chance.
- 1:15:32He had a chance.
- 1:15:34He had a chance.
- 1:15:35So for those of you who are playing Florida, bingo, hopefully one of these
- 1:15:38days will have a nice, uh, gator story or hops into the crick to escape the poppo.
- 1:15:45Oh, those are my favorite.
- 1:15:46And they get naked while they do it too.
- 1:15:48It's, it's amazing.
- 1:15:48And we also need a good drunken lawnmower chase.
- 1:15:53Oh, those are excellent.
- 1:15:54Alright, now this last one is less funny than like piss you off a little bit.
- 1:16:00So apparently there's some guy down in Texas who is going around and
- 1:16:05there's a video, there's a couple like video clicks, short little Instagrams
- 1:16:09that you can see of him, quote, test driving these cars and they got
- 1:16:12the dealer guy and his passengers.
- 1:16:13He's just abusing the F out of these things and I'm like,
- 1:16:17why are you doing this first?
- 1:16:19It's stupid.
- 1:16:20Some of the times he is like on a public road with other people in
- 1:16:23traffic just driving like an ass hatt begging to have an accident
- 1:16:26like the R eight and like, what are you getting out of this other than
- 1:16:29trying to get your Instagram likes up.
- 1:16:32Why are you doing this?
- 1:16:33Because he saw the Jeff Gordon stage videos from 20 years ago of
- 1:16:38the, remember he would go in Yep.
- 1:16:39In disguise to the dealerships.
- 1:16:41Mm-hmm.
- 1:16:42And drive the Camaros.
- 1:16:42But that was all produced by gm.
- 1:16:44It was all on purpose.
- 1:16:45It the Super Bowl commercial or whatever too.
- 1:16:47Yeah.
- 1:16:47I guess he's trying to do the real relay version of that.
- 1:16:50But I mean, he's getting the likes on Instagram, 175,000 views or whatever.
- 1:16:54It's funny, they can't catch this guy yet, apparently.
- 1:16:57'cause I guess he's using a fake name and then he never shows
- 1:16:59his face in any of the videos.
- 1:17:00So I don't think they've actually caught the guy yet.
- 1:17:02Wouldn't the dealerships have cameras?
- 1:17:04Wouldn't they see him?
- 1:17:05Isn't that, I don't know.
- 1:17:07And don't you have to provide a driver's license?
- 1:17:09They don't just give you, unless you have a fake ID and everything lies on it.
- 1:17:13I, I have no idea.
- 1:17:14Like how you haven't caught this guy yet.
- 1:17:16Yeah.
- 1:17:16Is confusing.
- 1:17:18This could also be BS as well to get people to go into those
- 1:17:21dealerships for all you know.
- 1:17:22So I have a confession to make.
- 1:17:25Uh oh, dashboard confessional.
- 1:17:27Yes.
- 1:17:27This is my dashboard confessional.
- 1:17:29When I was younger, in my twenties or so, one of my hobbies was going to
- 1:17:34car dealerships and test driving cars.
- 1:17:36Some of them were cars that I was interested in.
- 1:17:39Many of them, most of them were cars.
- 1:17:41I really was not going to be able to buy, but I wanted to be able to drive
- 1:17:45them so I would take them for a drive.
- 1:17:46Now they were all normal test drives and you know, it wasn't like I was doing what
- 1:17:50this guy was doing, but when I met my friend Andrew, he was working at CarMax,
- 1:17:55the first time I ever met him, I went with this other guy and we went to CarMax and
- 1:17:59they had a 96 or 98 SVT Cobra on the lot.
- 1:18:05And I was like, Hey, can I test drive that?
- 1:18:06And he was like, sure.
- 1:18:07I mean he, he thought I was a potential buyer.
- 1:18:09And so I took it and that one was a little more reckless.
- 1:18:13I got the car sideways a couple times, almost did a cars and coffee and yeah.
- 1:18:17And now we've been friends for 25 years.
- 1:18:19There you go.
- 1:18:21What this guy is doing is trash.
- 1:18:23Are you sure you did it or did the Mustang actually do it to you?
- 1:18:26It might actually be the natural behavior of the Mustang.
- 1:18:29It was like the movie Maximum Override, like I was just along
- 1:18:33for the ride like everybody else.
- 1:18:36Autopilot Pontius pilot took the wheel.
- 1:18:38That's what Tesla needs to call it.
- 1:18:39It's not autopilot.
- 1:18:40It's Pontius Pilot.
- 1:18:41Pon pilot.
- 1:18:45That's awesome.
- 1:18:46Oh, and just like him, the autopilot washes.
- 1:18:49Its hands of it by disengaging man, Jesus.
- 1:18:55Oh, you can't take the wheel.
- 1:18:57That's right.
- 1:18:58Oh, Jesus'.
- 1:19:00Hands are tied at the moment.
- 1:19:03Now we have to go behind the pit wall and talk about motor sports news.
- 1:19:07Brad, what did I, what did I what?
- 1:19:09What happened?
- 1:19:09Guess what?
- 1:19:09Guess what?
- 1:19:10Guess what?
- 1:19:10Um, guess what?
- 1:19:12I subjected him to.
- 1:19:13You made him watch a race.
- 1:19:15I made him listen to it.
- 1:19:16It was on the laptop in the garage while we were doing some work.
- 1:19:19I had the race playing, so he at least was listening to it,
- 1:19:22possibly sometimes seeing it.
- 1:19:24So I'm just sitting here waiting for Eric to say, I told you so.
- 1:19:28Thank you.
- 1:19:29He said it multiple times.
- 1:19:31He said it multiple times.
- 1:19:32Thank you.
- 1:19:47I'm gonna be nice.
- 1:19:48Bullshit.
- 1:19:48When are you ever nice
- 1:19:52flag on the play.
- 1:19:53I'm gonna start with Alonzo's.
- 1:19:55He was baffled by his unlucky crash that came out of nowhere because
- 1:19:59it was the same freaking corner that everybody was trying to cut
- 1:20:03in the rain through the sand trap.
- 1:20:05And if it worked for the first guy, it must work for the rest of us.
- 1:20:08Meanwhile, crash off into the side eating a sandwich.
- 1:20:12He's done.
- 1:20:13I kept saying it.
- 1:20:13I was like, every time somebody came through that turn to that chicane,
- 1:20:17I'm like, guys, you know it's raining.
- 1:20:19The curbs are slicker than snot and you've got this garbage sand on the
- 1:20:23inside, and you saw it happen with Ptri.
- 1:20:26He coded his tires.
- 1:20:27He made it to the next corner and then he was off because he had zero traction.
- 1:20:31After putting it through the sand trap and you're confused by what happened.
- 1:20:35This is like racing 1 0 1, driving in the rain.
- 1:20:38The rain line is where you have grip.
- 1:20:41Also, don't touch the curbs.
- 1:20:43No kidding.
- 1:20:43Like we learned all this crap in HPDE, like we learned
- 1:20:47it all a million years ago.
- 1:20:48But again, their Formula One, they are the best drivers in the world.
- 1:20:51They need to go back to HBDE.
- 1:20:52I think he was surprised by the crash.
- 1:20:57Meanwhile, there's all the Instagram videos of Alonzo.
- 1:21:00I never wanna speak to the media again.
- 1:21:02I have nothing to say to you people.
- 1:21:04There's nothing new to talk about.
- 1:21:05I am a robot.
- 1:21:06Do not interview me anymore.
- 1:21:09I'm like, whatever, dude.
- 1:21:10Isn't it time freaking retire?
- 1:21:12It was a Sunday.
- 1:21:13Jesus was busy.
- 1:21:14He didn't have time to take the wheel in that case, let's
- 1:21:17get to the punchline here.
- 1:21:19Okay.
- 1:21:19The juiciest part of the episode is about to happen.
- 1:21:22Let's get to it.
- 1:21:23Hamilton first, race of the season.
- 1:21:25McLaren wins.
- 1:21:26Lando Norris, P one oh Max for stopping P two because of p's.
- 1:21:31Unfortunate slide in the last few laps of the race, as was just mentioned, Russell.
- 1:21:37Mercedes.
- 1:21:37P three.
- 1:21:38Give us the rest of the drivers between Russell Mercedes, the inferior Mercedes.
- 1:21:43Mercedes can't develop a car.
- 1:21:46Mercedes.
- 1:21:47Rookie Driver, Jimmy Antonelli.
- 1:21:50Fourth place Uhhuh.
- 1:21:51Alex Alvin Williams.
- 1:21:53Fifth place Uhhuh.
- 1:21:54Lance Stroll.
- 1:21:55Aston Martin.
- 1:21:56Sixth.
- 1:21:57Nico Holberg's.
- 1:21:58Kick Solver.
- 1:21:59Seventh place O. Okay.
- 1:22:01Charles LeClaire Ferrari.
- 1:22:03Eighth place.
- 1:22:04Wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:22:05What haven't I heard yet?
- 1:22:07Oscar Ptri McLaren.
- 1:22:09Ninth Place.
- 1:22:10Who should have been second?
- 1:22:12Wait, hold on.
- 1:22:12We're in ninth place.
- 1:22:13We're like almost out of the points at this point.
- 1:22:16A two position drop from his qualifying position of eighth Place.
- 1:22:20Who was in 10th place?
- 1:22:21Who was it again, sir? Lewis Hamilton.
- 1:22:23Seven time World Champion, Louis Hamilton.
- 1:22:25Oh, okay.
- 1:22:26Alright with his debut Grand Prix with Ferrari.
- 1:22:29Now I will say a couple things.
- 1:22:31One, the Williams team really surprised me.
- 1:22:33Science was in P two during practice.
- 1:22:36I'm sorry, feel bad that he wrecked himself out on like Lab three,
- 1:22:41another one where Jesus was busy.
- 1:22:43And then the next thing I'll say,
- 1:22:48not today, not today, not today, Carlos Jesus put up a sign and said out to lunch,
- 1:22:55it's the time difference in Australia.
- 1:22:57He was like, nah, man.
- 1:22:58True, true, true.
- 1:22:59He was in another part of the world.
- 1:23:00I'll also say it was mostly a rain race the whole time.
- 1:23:04Pretty much rain races are very unpredictable and a lot of shit happens
- 1:23:08and a lot of the grid doesn't turn out like it usually does during a dry race.
- 1:23:12So rain races do have a lot of variability flag on the, I can't
- 1:23:16even use the referee whistle anymore.
- 1:23:18I'm gonna get a vula and be like.
- 1:23:21Because isn't Hamilton touted as like one of the rain gods?
- 1:23:25Like when the weather gets bad, then Hamilton comes to life and
- 1:23:30all this bs.
- 1:23:32Maybe in the Mercedes he was, that's the Hamilton of 20 years ago.
- 1:23:35Because the Hamilton I saw in Australia in 2025.
- 1:23:38Hang it up brother.
- 1:23:39You're done.
- 1:23:40We'll give him the benefit of a few more races to see how things turn out.
- 1:23:44We're gonna make it to the third round and I'm gonna tell you it's
- 1:23:47gonna be the same from then on.
- 1:23:50He was also having trouble with the team strategy and like understanding
- 1:23:54the team strategy and stuff.
- 1:23:55It's, I mean, I'm not saying, I'm not saying you're wrong, Ferrari.
- 1:23:58Ferrari though.
- 1:23:59Yeah.
- 1:24:00Ferrari did what Ferrari does in offense or defense, whatever
- 1:24:03would be appropriate for here.
- 1:24:04They did Ferrari themselves because when it did start raining hard at the
- 1:24:09end of the race, everybody else pitted and they stayed out too many laps,
- 1:24:14kept trying to go on the hard tires and when they all finally pitted it f
- 1:24:18LeClaire, he would've been way higher up based on where he was had he pitted
- 1:24:21with everybody else, but they kept them out and they did a typical bullshit
- 1:24:25Ferrari strategy of like two years ago.
- 1:24:27Yeah.
- 1:24:28They looked like they were in the drive through line in McDonald's,
- 1:24:30like one car behind the other.
- 1:24:31Like what are we doing here?
- 1:24:32You know what I mean?
- 1:24:33This is ridiculous.
- 1:24:34The thing is that strategy, I don't know how to understand,
- 1:24:37how you can't understand it.
- 1:24:38Like they're gonna tell you to pit and you come pit.
- 1:24:40But the strategy behind the wheel, when you're on track, you're driving and you're
- 1:24:44supposed to be driving to your limits and pushing past your limits and being the
- 1:24:48the God amongst Gods Actually not anymore.
- 1:24:51See, because.
- 1:24:52They actually tell them not to as the strategy then what
- 1:24:55is the point of this anymore?
- 1:24:57What I've observed over the last few years of coming back in and
- 1:25:00watching it is they go really hard.
- 1:25:02Like the first two, three laps, they try to like win at the first corner basically.
- 1:25:06And then after the first couple laps, everybody just dials it
- 1:25:09back and they go into cruise mode.
- 1:25:11It's tire preservation and then they all try to punch it in the last two
- 1:25:15laps of the race to win it again.
- 1:25:16But no, it's not like 20 years ago where it was like, we're going hard every lap.
- 1:25:2112 tenths the whole time.
- 1:25:23No, they go like 11 tenths the first laps and then they go seven tenths
- 1:25:27for 40 laps out of the race and then they start dialing it back in.
- 1:25:30Like they literally, like you can listen to the strategy where they're
- 1:25:33like, oh, you know, don't push, don't push, or, or then they'll be
- 1:25:36like, okay, it's time to push now.
- 1:25:37Can you go faster?
- 1:25:39Are they giving birth?
- 1:25:40Like what is all this push up?
- 1:25:42You know?
- 1:25:43Eric, to your point, they don't make drivers like they used to.
- 1:25:47Can't all be sna can't we?
- 1:25:51Oh, oh,
- 1:25:55I, I'm just saying Hamilton wrecked the Ferrari at the test track.
- 1:26:00I don't think it's gonna get any better for him.
- 1:26:02And I don't wanna hear about how, oh, new team, you guys told me all this stuff.
- 1:26:07They'll pull that.
- 1:26:08'cause I already saw a thing where it showed his first years in any
- 1:26:12of the three teams he's driven in.
- 1:26:14He did not win.
- 1:26:15So even when he moved to Mercedes the first time, his first year was crap.
- 1:26:18He got points, he got some podiums and all that, but he was not one the first time.
- 1:26:22And the same thing with like McLaren for the one year that he
- 1:26:25did it, I guess, or whatever it was.
- 1:26:26And then, so people are gonna say if he has a bad year, they're still gonna
- 1:26:30hang it and they're gonna be like, oh, he did it in with the other teams too.
- 1:26:34So we're gonna hold out for, you know, next year.
- 1:26:37Uhhuh.
- 1:26:37Yeah, sure.
- 1:26:38Just like every football team.
- 1:26:39But the point is.
- 1:26:41By that point, he'll be two years older than when he transitioned over.
- 1:26:46Oh yeah.
- 1:26:46He's aging out of Formula One.
- 1:26:48He just needs to stop.
- 1:26:49You can't beat Father time.
- 1:26:50And it might just be that, you know, reflexes are down
- 1:26:53the drive to risk your life.
- 1:26:55He's already proven what he needs to prove.
- 1:26:57Now the thing is, if he's still got it in him to say he wants to better
- 1:27:02Schumacher and not be tied with Schumacher, then he's gotta do it.
- 1:27:05But if he can't, then he can't.
- 1:27:06It is what it is.
- 1:27:07There's plenty of other champions out there that have settled for, I did
- 1:27:10what I came to do and I'm done, and what's the point of hanging on and
- 1:27:14collecting a paycheck at this point?
- 1:27:15Because to come in 10th.
- 1:27:1710th.
- 1:27:17Well look at Alonzo.
- 1:27:19I don't understand what Aston Martin's doing.
- 1:27:20Two time World champion coming in back marker.
- 1:27:23Well, mid pack, they're like Tom Brady.
- 1:27:26It would've been hilarious if Alonzo hadn't wrecked, he would've
- 1:27:29finished in front of Hamilton.
- 1:27:30But to have Lance Stroll and all these other guys in front of you that we make
- 1:27:35fun of all the time, you know, in previous years, you're like, dude, you're done.
- 1:27:39Like you're not Haas, but you might as well be.
- 1:27:41Well, this weekend is the Chinese Grand Prix, so we'll see what happens there.
- 1:27:46We shall see.
- 1:27:47Champ, I'm coming over.
- 1:27:48We're, which I saw something.
- 1:27:49They're having issues with tires, logistics, like
- 1:27:52getting tires, BS with tires.
- 1:27:54I don't want hear it.
- 1:28:01Real quick, WRC News.
- 1:28:03I got hit over the head this past weekend.
- 1:28:05I wanted to get caught up because we're moving into Kenya
- 1:28:09and some of the other rallies.
- 1:28:10Red Bull has started geofencing their race coverage, so the first three
- 1:28:14rounds are blocked in the United States.
- 1:28:16Can't watch Monaco.
- 1:28:17Can't watch Sweden.
- 1:28:18Can't watch Kenya.
- 1:28:19On Red Bull tv, so I am now forced to consider finally moving to WRC
- 1:28:23Plus, and then I found out WRC Plus is not available on the Roku Boo.
- 1:28:28Did you use A VPN?
- 1:28:29You know that's a whole rat hole.
- 1:28:32How do you get a Roku to use a VPN?
- 1:28:34Figure that out.
- 1:28:35Right?
- 1:28:35That's the problem.
- 1:28:35We gotta put the whole house in A VPN.
- 1:28:37Yeah, that's a mess.
- 1:28:38Does any rate.
- 1:28:39I just want to call back that we did a lot of coverage this month on different
- 1:28:45disciplines of racing, specifically TransAm and our friends at the I-M-R-R-C
- 1:28:51and the sponsor of our Motorsports News is now the Hall of Fame for
- 1:28:55TransAm and one of the 18 inductees.
- 1:28:58Amy Ruman was featured on our panel earlier this month, so I invite everybody
- 1:29:03to check out the second week of March.
- 1:29:05We did a whole TransAm week, covering the first 50 years Amy's championship
- 1:29:10year in 2015 into 16 her, she actually won back to back and then
- 1:29:14this new panel with some champions of TransAm, which was a lot of fun.
- 1:29:17So check that out in our catalog of shows.
- 1:29:19And as I mentioned, the International Motor Racing Research Center is our
- 1:29:22sponsor for our Motor Sports news.
- 1:29:24We do have more virtual center conversations coming
- 1:29:27for the rest of the season.
- 1:29:28We are just coming off this four parter.
- 1:29:30For International Women's Month.
- 1:29:32By the time you listen to this episode, we'll have wrapped that out and moved
- 1:29:35into our next block of programming and the Corvette Suite Stakes closed.

- 1:33:51Alright, go ahead and do the intro.
- 1:33:57See, all he did was he turned on his computer.
- 1:33:59He is just teasing us now.
- 1:34:00That's what it's
- 1:34:03What is that?
- 1:34:04From Halloween.
- 1:34:05Oh, that's right.
- 1:34:06Oh, is it?
- 1:34:08It's a good thing we don't live stream this.
- 1:34:11That would be fun.
- 1:34:12Can you imagine what bothers me about this is that I, I don't get any warning.
- 1:34:16So I'm talking and talking and you guys keep talking over me and I don't
- 1:34:19know if like I should be mad because you're just like ignoring me or if
- 1:34:22you like you just don't hear me.
- 1:34:23And it is the latter.
- 1:34:25Not the former my friend.
- 1:34:26It is, it is that I figured, I figured he's got the touch a touch too much.
- 1:34:32No, he is, she's talking like, uh, Stan Bush.
- 1:34:35She got the pow or the Transformers movie.
- 1:34:38Yeah, I was thinking the ac DC song.
- 1:34:40Yeah, yeah.
- 1:34:44Well here we are in the drive through line.
- 1:34:48Me and her cars in front of us, cars in back of us all just waiting to order.
