- 0:45SPEAKER_01: If you feel like your podcast isn't growing and your first instinct is to do more, more episodes, more content, more promotion, then I need you to hear this.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Growing your podcast is probably not about doing more.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: It's about doing what you're already doing, but doing it better.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: And today I'm going to be showing you the simplest way to grow your podcast without adding anything new to your plate.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Let's dive in.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Podcasting for Moms, the show for moms in business ready to start, grow, and scale a podcast that turns your listeners into buyers.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I'm Jenny Summerson, a podcast strategist and fellow mom entrepreneur.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: You're in the right place if you want to learn how to start and grow a podcast that attracts your ideal clients and really does the heavy lifting for you when it comes to selling your offers, all while balancing life as a busy mom.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Are you ready to create a podcast that grows your income, impact, and influence?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Let's make podcasting work for you.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Because as moms, we know how to get things done.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: All right, let's jump into the episode.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey, and welcome to Podcasting for Moms, where we keep podcasting simple, strategic, and actually doable in the margins of motherhood.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Johnny Sunnison, a podcast strategist, and your go-to for turning your podcast into something that actually supports your business, not just takes up your time.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: And this episode's gonna be a bit of a mindset shift, but also very tactical.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Because if you've been stuck in the cycle of I just need to be more consistent, or I should post more, or maybe I need to start over, then this is your permission slip to stop.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Let's get into it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: So somewhere along the way, we were taught that growth equals volume, more episodes equals more downloads, more content equals more visibility, and more effort equals more results.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: But here's what I see every single day working with podcasters.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: They are already doing enough.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: They're just not leveraging it.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: They're recording episodes, but those episodes aren't positioned to get found.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: They're showing up consistently, but the content they're putting out is not converting.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: They're promoting, but there's no clear path from listener to lead to client.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So instead of growth feeling simple, it feels absolutely exhausting.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about the simplest way to grow.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: So the simplest way to grow your podcast is to optimize what already exists.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Not create more content, not start over, and definitely not burn it down.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Just make what you already have work harder for you.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And this breaks down into three core areas.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: So the first area is optimizing for discovery.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: So if people can't find your podcast, then they're not gonna be able to listen to it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: This means your podcast title should be searchable.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Your episode's title should be clear and keyword rich as well.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: And your descriptions should actually tell platforms who your content is for.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Because your podcast isn't just content, it is a search engine.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: And most podcasters are massively underutilizing this.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: The second thing I want you to do is improve your first 60 seconds of the episode.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: And this is the fastest win because your growth isn't just about getting clicks, it's about keeping people listening once they get there.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Your first 30 to 60 seconds of your episode should call out a specific problem, make a clear promise, and give someone a reason to stick around.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Not, hey guys, welcome back to the podcast.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Because that is where you lose people.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: And yes, I know I do a hey guys, welcome back to the podcast, but I have a hook first.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: And the hook is compelling enough to keep people around before I dive into that, hey, welcome back to the podcast segment.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Then we have the third thing, and that is add a clear conversion path.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: This is the piece almost everyone is missing.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: So you might be getting listeners, but what if they don't know what to do next?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: That means you're leaving growth and revenue on the table.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Every episode should lead somewhere and just one place.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: So whether that is to direct them to join your email list, to download a freebie, to book a call, to check in an offer that you're promoting, your episode should be leading to someplace.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Because a growing podcast isn't just about downloads, it is about direction.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: So I want to share a real life example of what this actually looks like.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: So instead of recording three brand new episodes this week, you could go back and rewrite 10 of your episode titles.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: You could update your episode descriptions with keywords.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: You could update your podcast name with keywords.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: You could update your name field with keywords.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: You could update your description, like your overall podcast description with keywords.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: That is an easy way to get your show in front of more people.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: You could fix your intros on upcoming episodes, and you can add a simple call to action to your top performing content.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Same podcast, same content, but now it is working for you instead of just existing.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: And this is really about shifting from I need to do more to grow to how can I make what I already have more effective?
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Because sustainable growth, especially as a mom building in the margins, has to come from refinement, not expansion.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: You do not need a bigger workload and to add more tasks to your plate.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: You just need a better strategy.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: And if you're listening to this and you're thinking, okay, I know my podcast could be doing more, but I don't know where the gaps are.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: That is exactly what I help people with inside of my podcast growth audit.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: We look at what's not getting you found, what's not keeping listeners engaged, and what's not converting into leads or clients.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: And then we fix it without adding more to your plate.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: To learn more about the podcast growth audit, you can go to podcastingformoms.co slash audit.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Once again, that is podcastingformoms.co slash audit.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: And I also link it in the show notes as well.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: So yeah, your podcast doesn't need more from you.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: It just needs to work better for you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And that starts with what you already have.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: All right, that's it for this episode.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I'll see you in the next one.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Thank you for tuning in to Podcasting for Moms.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I hope today's episode gave you the tools and inspiration you need to make your podcast work smarter, not harder.
