- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's finish up with this. Florida takes down Texas. Their
- 0:03Speaker 1: second win against a team that was ranked top 10
- 0:06Speaker 1: in the country. They go into Austin and I'll tell you,
- 0:09Speaker 1: we are presented by prize picks. What I was most
- 0:12Speaker 1: impressed about was the way that Florida responded in this game.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I know that'll trigger FSU fans because Mike Norvell uses
- 0:18Speaker 1: that word relentlessly. And, uh, but they were down 17
- 0:22Speaker 1: to three in Texas, had the ball and was driving.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And I thought this was the moment that Florida just
- 0:27Speaker 1: let this game become what the last two games had become.
- 0:30Speaker 1: the hang your head and quit like they did against
- 0:33Speaker 1: South Carolina, like they did against Missouri.
- 0:37Speaker 2: And they didn't. And Texas did a lot.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We'll talk about them in a couple of minutes, but
- 0:40Speaker 1: really from the Florida side, I was incredibly impressed with
- 0:44Speaker 1: the way that they found a way. A lot of
- 0:47Speaker 1: mistakes early in this game. Texas absolutely should have been
- 0:50Speaker 1: able to hold on to this lead, but they never quit.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And Cole, I think they got something with Tramell Jones.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I don't know that he's like markedly better than Aaron Philo,
- 1:00Speaker 1: but I know that the team looks better with him.
- 1:02Speaker 1: He carries himself with a little bit more swagger, a
- 1:04Speaker 1: little bit more confidence. He looks a little bit different
- 1:07Speaker 1: out there. I know they have a little under two
- 1:11Speaker 1: weeks to figure this out before they play Georgia. They
- 1:13Speaker 1: get the benefit of the bye week as well. But
- 1:15Speaker 1: if I'm calling it, he's starting that Georgia game.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Hi, I think Jesse Palmer was the one who said
- 1:20Speaker 3: on the broadcast afterwards. Now you have a question on
- 1:23Speaker 3: if you're going to start a quarterback moving forward. No,
- 1:25Speaker 3: you don't. No, you don't. You went into Austin against
- 1:28Speaker 3: that defense and you were down by double digits and
- 1:31Speaker 3: found a way to respond. No, you do not. Tramiel Jones,
- 1:34Speaker 3: your starting quarterback for, for a world star stop or
- 1:36Speaker 3: cocktail party or indoor cocktail party or cocktail party, whatever,
- 1:40Speaker 3: whatever the hell you want to call it.
- 1:41Speaker 4: It's so stupid.
- 1:42Speaker 3: This game is dumb. It's dumb. And that's not an ad.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It was dumb.
- 1:45Speaker 2: That's not because they're eighties. It's because they're eighties hate
- 1:47Speaker 2: their fans. Like all eighties do.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Like all eighties do. Cause that's why we have a
- 1:51Speaker 3: 2014 playoff. Anyways, back to the main point of this conversation. Um,
- 1:55Speaker 3: Credit where credit's due to the way they responded. I
- 1:57Speaker 3: thought it was very sloppy on the opening, I mean,
- 1:59Speaker 3: from the very get-go, for them to be able to
- 2:01Speaker 3: come on out. They played phenomenal in the second half,
- 2:04Speaker 3: like something clicked. They were great on third down execution,
- 2:07Speaker 3: 8 of 19. Defensively, performance to talk about with that
- 2:12Speaker 3: defensive line getting after that offensive front. I mean, time
- 2:16Speaker 3: after time after time, you thought that this is where
- 2:19Speaker 3: maybe Arch is able to get into a rhythm. Nope,
- 2:22Speaker 3: it's a loss of down. Nope, it's a loss of four.
- 2:24Speaker 3: They finished the day with, if I'm not mistaken, 11
- 2:29Speaker 3: tackles for loss and five sacks, I think, if I'm
- 2:34Speaker 3: pretty sure. They were phenomenal in the trenches. And then
- 2:38Speaker 3: they consistently got after Arch. They took away the run game.
- 2:42Speaker 3: They tried to make them have to throw downfield. They
- 2:44Speaker 3: were great in coverage. They were making plays on the football.
- 2:48Speaker 3: It was a reality check win of... Who do you
- 2:51Speaker 3: want to be when everybody is making fun of you
- 2:54Speaker 3: type of moment? And that was a must-need situation for
- 2:57Speaker 3: John Summerall not to lose the season, which I thought
- 3:00Speaker 3: was great in that standpoint. Defensively, the Shano quit. Offensively,
- 3:04Speaker 3: Tramell Jones finding some really, really good passing reports on
- 3:08Speaker 3: second down the Explosives. Jaden Baugh getting back to being
- 3:11Speaker 3: Jaden Baugh with that big touchdown run to take the
- 3:13Speaker 3: lead in the fourth quarter. They really, really impressed me
- 3:17Speaker 3: in so many ways. You know what? I'm not going
- 3:20Speaker 3: to complain about much in the AP voters poll this
- 3:24Speaker 3: week because it's a cluster mess of all many upsets.
- 3:28Speaker 3: But when I see a team being in front of
- 3:30Speaker 3: another team, when you literally just play them and they
- 3:33Speaker 3: have the same record and you say, hey, I wonder
- 3:35Speaker 3: what it would look like if these two idiots played
- 3:37Speaker 3: against each other and one came out on top. Yeah,
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'm going to complain about it a little bit. The
- 3:41Speaker 3: fact that Texas is not ranked behind Florida is a
- 3:44Speaker 3: travesty when they have the exact same record, and one
- 3:47Speaker 3: team went in there and shut the hell up in
- 3:49Speaker 3: the second half.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Tom, thoughts on Florida, and then we'll move to Texas quickly.
- 3:56Speaker 4: They went back to what worked for them, and they
- 3:58Speaker 4: ran the football. I mean, like, they didn't get away
- 4:01Speaker 4: from Jaden Ball. They didn't forget who he is. To
- 4:03Speaker 4: get Tramell Jones Jr. in there to supplement the run
- 4:05Speaker 4: was good. I'm not going to immediately jump to the
- 4:08Speaker 4: conclusion that Cole jumped to of like, oh, you automatically
- 4:11Speaker 4: start Jamel Jones against Georgia. Like you got to see
- 4:14Speaker 4: where Philo's at in that situation.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Oh, I'm with you.
- 4:19Speaker 4: I just, we've seen too many instances so far this
- 4:23Speaker 4: season where something feels like a sure thing. And then
- 4:26Speaker 4: a week later, it's not. So I'm just kind of waiting,
- 4:29Speaker 4: taking it week by week. Let's say credit to Florida,
- 4:33Speaker 4: the way that they clawed their way back in this game.
- 4:36Speaker 4: They found answers defensively, and we'll get to how Texas
- 4:39Speaker 4: gave them those opportunities offensively in a moment, but it
- 4:44Speaker 4: was just encouraging to see quarterback play that provided a spark.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You saw this offensive line have success against Texas in
- 4:52Speaker 4: the second half. Colin Simmons getting carted off, major blow
- 4:56Speaker 4: to Texas' defense throughout this game, so I think that
- 4:58Speaker 4: certainly helped Florida, but credit to John Summerall. We talked
- 5:02Speaker 4: about this before of Will Stein getting his signature victory.
- 5:05Speaker 4: We talked about Alex Golish getting his signature victory. And
- 5:08Speaker 4: now John Summerall's got, what, will we argue two at
- 5:11Speaker 4: this point during the season? This has been a really
- 5:14Speaker 4: nice start for Summerall in Gainesville. So I like what
- 5:18Speaker 4: I saw out of them. Is it sustainable because of
- 5:20Speaker 4: the quarterback position? I have no idea. And that's kind
- 5:24Speaker 4: of the SEC.
- 5:26Speaker 2: We have no idea every single week. That's the fun part.
- 5:30Speaker 3: TJ, can I add?
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip of the Power
- 5:34Speaker 1: 2 here on the College Football Addiction Network. But first,

- 6:22Speaker 1: the NBA starting back up, NHL's going, MLB postseason, shout
- 6:25Speaker 1: out my Rays, and then, of course, college football, the
- 6:28Speaker 1: most important thing that happens in this country.
- 6:31Speaker 2: We appreciate PrizePix for their support. Now back to the clip.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say, the Gators are 5-2,
- 6:37Speaker 1: and that's probably what we would have said their ceiling
- 6:40Speaker 1: was coming in. That's probably what we just said their
- 6:42Speaker 1: ceiling was, was 5-2. We probably would have had the
- 6:45Speaker 1: losses to Texas and Ole Miss. That's not the way
- 6:48Speaker 1: it worked out, but That's the way it did happen.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And you're right.
- 6:53Speaker 1: The SEC is an absolute chaos circle. I saw this
- 6:57Speaker 1: post like it is an absolute chaos circle at all times.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And anybody can beat anybody.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Sorry, Arkansas. Sorry, Vandy. But it is absurd what's happening there. Cole,
- 7:09Speaker 2: what were you going to ask about Florida?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you make of Florida fans right now
- 7:14Speaker 3: and how they're reacting to this? Because, like, it's so
- 7:16Speaker 3: interesting when you talk to people. One week, burn in hell,
- 7:20Speaker 3: all of you deserve to die. I think that you
- 7:22Speaker 3: are just terrible. Once again, we hired some about Billy 2.0.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Because if you lose to Mizzou and get your ass
- 7:29Speaker 3: handed to you in Como, and then you lose at
- 7:32Speaker 3: home because you have no answers for the Norris Sellers,
- 7:36Speaker 3: but you have two top ten wins... What do we
- 7:38Speaker 3: make of the season? What really do we make of
- 7:42Speaker 3: this first year underneath John Sumrall?
- 7:45Speaker 1: I think that we make too much of most coaches'
- 7:49Speaker 1: first years. I think that's the problem. Florida fans, as
- 7:54Speaker 1: loyal as they are, as dedicated as they are, as
- 7:57Speaker 1: passionate as they are, are at times unrealistic. And let's
- 8:01Speaker 1: be fair, all fans are, right? Especially when you have
- 8:05Speaker 1: that new coach hype and you retain the talent they retained.
- 8:08Speaker 1: They've got some major deficiencies that have to get cleaned up.
- 8:11Speaker 1: The Texas defensive line took some hits and could not
- 8:15Speaker 1: hit their offensive line the way that maybe we thought
- 8:19Speaker 1: they would. And the Texas secondary, I'm sorry, the Florida
- 8:23Speaker 1: secondary is certainly a question mark, and Arch was not
- 8:27Speaker 1: able to take advantage of that. And so, man, McCray
- 8:31Speaker 1: had a great game. There were things that went really
- 8:34Speaker 1: well that limited Texas' offense as well. But the problem
- 8:38Speaker 1: is that we make too much of coaches first years
- 8:43Speaker 1: and there are going to be ebbs and flows.
- 8:44Speaker 2: There are going to be peaks and valleys.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Kirby Smart, the best coach in this country, just lost
- 8:49Speaker 1: to Auburn, a first year head coach at home like.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Stupid things happen in this sport.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And with parody and the NIL and the portal, they're
- 8:59Speaker 1: going to keep happening because everybody in the sec spending money.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I don't know if Arkansas Vandy are spending money, but
- 9:04Speaker 1: everybody else is spending money. You're going to have these
- 9:06Speaker 1: wildly inconsistent seasons. Gone are the days of, well, Florida
- 9:10Speaker 1: has never gone undefeated, but gone are the days of
- 9:14Speaker 1: had to get that shot in real quick of going
- 9:16Speaker 1: 13 and one or 12 and one or, or winning,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, having undefeated season.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I don't think that's happened in the sec anymore, man.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Maybe in the big 10, but like that ain't happened
- 9:26Speaker 1: in a lot of places. I don't know how many
- 9:29Speaker 1: national champions we see anymore undefeated, especially once we go
- 9:32Speaker 1: to next year's 2014 playoff. So the Florida fans are,
- 9:38Speaker 1: they want, they want to see their team play like
- 9:41Speaker 1: they played against Ole Miss. Like they played in the
- 9:44Speaker 1: last three quarters of this game. They want to see
- 9:45Speaker 1: that every game. That's just not possible. Alabama hasn't been
- 9:49Speaker 1: able to do that. Georgia hasn't been able to do that.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Ohio State hasn't been able to do that. Texas hasn't
- 9:52Speaker 1: been able to do that. Notre Dame hasn't been able
- 9:53Speaker 1: to do that. Miami hasn't been able to do that.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Like every team like you.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So we have the parody. We have parody.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Like it's just, so yeah, you, you would love to
- 10:04Speaker 1: have that South Carolina game back. You would love to have,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know, the, the, the Ole Miss or the Missouri game,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you know, but you, you played Missouri when they were
- 10:14Speaker 1: really hot and you were coming off of a big win.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And then you look at what, again, just transitive property.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Missouri blows out Florida. Florida blows out Ole Miss. Ole
- 10:21Speaker 2: Miss blows out Missouri. Like, I could ask the same
- 10:23Speaker 2: thing about Ole Miss fans. Like, Ole Miss fans probably
- 10:26Speaker 2: think the same thing. What the hell were we doing
- 10:28Speaker 2: in Gainesville, guys?
- 10:29Speaker 4: At the end of the day, these are still largely
- 10:32Speaker 4: 18- to 22-year-olds. And emotion can change everything in the
- 10:36Speaker 4: span of a week, to your point about Florida having
- 10:38Speaker 4: the letdown against Mizzou. And I look at Texas and
- 10:42Speaker 4: a team that feels like it doesn't have a whole
- 10:44Speaker 4: lot of confidence there. Maybe defensively they have confidence in themselves,
- 10:47Speaker 4: but when your offense lets you down so many times,
- 10:51Speaker 4: after a while as a defensive player, you're kind of like,
- 10:53Speaker 4: what the hell, man?
- 10:55Speaker 2: You lose confidence.
- 10:55Speaker 4: It's normal.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Also, real fast, Florida has an opportunity to go 8-4,
- 10:59Speaker 3: maybe even 9-3, maybe even 10-2 if they're able to
- 11:02Speaker 3: run the table this year. But can we also have
- 11:05Speaker 3: the honest conversation that we did not think Florida was
- 11:07Speaker 3: going to be a threat to go to the college
- 11:09Speaker 3: football playoff in year one? The fact that you're going
- 11:11Speaker 3: to be bowl eligible sitting with at least seven wins,
- 11:14Speaker 3: because I don't think you're losing to Vanderbilt or Florida State.
- 11:18Speaker 3: So that makes it at seven, an eight win campaign
- 11:21Speaker 3: when you throw in the bowl victory that you'll have.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It's a good first year with two top 10 wins
- 11:26Speaker 3: under John Summerall. Like we don't need to keep moving
- 11:28Speaker 3: the goalposts on what was supposed to be this year.
- 11:31Speaker 3: That's my main thing.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The goalposts got moved when they blew out Ole Miss.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And the Florida fans were not wrong for that.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I mean, they were technically, but like everyone does that.
- 11:41Speaker 4: But the reason we thought that was so important at
- 11:43Speaker 4: the time is because Ole Miss destroyed LSU and we
- 11:46Speaker 4: all thought LSU was a juggernaut. So the domino effect
- 11:49Speaker 4: has been absolutely fascinating. Just take it one week at
- 11:52Speaker 4: a time, right?
