- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another tiny French lesson? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing my body parts from last time. Le dos, le cou, la nuque... I've got those. Lucas: Nice work. Today we're adding two more: l'épaule and le poignet. Shoulder and wrist. Luna: Oh, like when you say 'j'ai mal à l'épaule' — 'I have a shoulder ache'? Lucas: Exactly! L'épaule. Listen: l'épaule. Luna: L'épaule. Lucas: Good. And the plural is les épaules. For example, 'j'ai mal aux épaules' — my shoulders hurt. Luna: Les épaules. And 'aux' is the contraction of 'à les', right? Lucas: Right. Now le poignet — wrist. Say it. Luna: Le poignet. Lucas: Perfect. Plural: les poignets. 'J'ai mal aux poignets' — my wrists hurt. Luna: So if I do too many push-ups, I might say 'j'ai mal aux poignets'. Lucas: Exactly. Or if you carry heavy bags, you could say 'j'ai mal à l'épaule'. Luna: Let me try using both: 'Après avoir porté des sacs, j'ai mal à l'épaule et au poignet.' How was that? Lucas: Almost perfect. Just remember: 'au poignet' — you said 'au' correctly. But say it again: 'j'ai mal à l'épaule et au poignet'. Luna: J'ai mal à l'épaule et au poignet. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's practice with a little scene. Imagine you're at the doctor. Luna: Okay. 'Bonjour, docteur. J'ai mal à l'épaule gauche.' Lucas: Perfect. And the doctor might ask: 'Depuis quand?' — since when? Luna: Depuis hier. And I could add: 'Et aussi j'ai mal au poignet droit.' Lucas: Very natural. You've got it. Let's review the words one more time: l'épaule, le poignet, les épaules, les poignets. Luna: L'épaule, le poignet, les épaules, les poignets. Lucas: If Fexingo is helping you make progress with French body parts, consider supporting the show. It helps us keep making these episodes ad-free. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas! À la prochaine. Lucas: À la prochaine, Luna. Keep practicing!
