- 1:03Speaker 7: But he's kind of like a starter at like they
- 1:05Speaker 7: were they were beating Rex.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Ryan does come across as a tool bag.
- 1:09Speaker 1: The mocking critical.
- 1:11Speaker 7: I don't think the history of this offense tells you
- 1:13Speaker 7: that anybody can do it besides Brady, So.
- 1:17Speaker 8: Well well done, Rex, I don't remember that even then.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So now we're just making things.
- 1:22Speaker 8: I didn't say. He's making it up. I said, I
- 1:23Speaker 8: don't remember it.

- 1:35Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:39Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and uh, we're gonna be talking Patriots
- 1:43Speaker 2: for the next two hours. There's a lot of stuff
- 1:45Speaker 2: to talk about, maybe the least of which is a
- 1:49Speaker 2: game against the San Diego.
- 1:50Speaker 1: You did it too, builded it. I did it, You
- 1:53Speaker 1: did it.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I will never stop calling it in San Diego they're
- 1:55Speaker 2: the La Chargers. But there is a game on Sunday
- 1:58Speaker 2: at one o'clock per year, and maybe we can talk
- 2:01Speaker 2: a little bit about that, you know, like, do you
- 2:05Speaker 2: have this sneaky feeling they might pull a win off
- 2:07Speaker 2: this Sunday?
- 2:08Speaker 10: No?
- 2:09Speaker 6: Really, Okay, I was just about to say, I was
- 2:13Speaker 6: gonna say we got off to a much better start today,
- 2:16Speaker 6: you know, other than sorry, I don't know, it was
- 2:21Speaker 6: a little bit better then right off the top. No, well,
- 2:24Speaker 6: after last week, it yees hard, I do I do
- 2:26Speaker 6: think there's always a chance from the NFL Chargers.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I mean, remember the day when the Chargers would come
- 2:32Speaker 2: to Foxborough for a one o'clock game and.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You would be like, yeah, it's over.
- 2:36Speaker 7: You know, they won seven straight, Like don't even.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Don't even turn the buses off, just you know, let
- 2:41Speaker 2: them off. They can take the field and then get
- 2:42Speaker 2: right back.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Have that. I'm trying to think of some of those
- 2:46Speaker 6: games because I remember more. I think the playoff game
- 2:52Speaker 6: in eighteen might have been a one o'clock game.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right, Yeah, well the Ladanian Tomlinson checkout game.
- 2:59Speaker 6: That was a one o'clock the seven mph yeah that
- 3:02Speaker 6: was not a one o'clock game.
- 3:04Speaker 11: That was not a not a shooting game, No it wasn't,
- 3:07Speaker 11: but it was also Yeah, I mean, they haven't beaten
- 3:11Speaker 11: the Patriots in Foxborough since like five.
- 3:15Speaker 7: Yeah, seven straight wins overall against.
- 3:18Speaker 1: That was to take my team's name out of your mouth,
- 3:20Speaker 1: Marty Shotenheimer.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Now, I think I think what's holding even thought that
- 3:24Speaker 2: almost ridiculous. I think what's holding the Chargers back this
- 3:27Speaker 2: year is their coach. I think they have some talent,
- 3:32Speaker 2: and I think that they're a pissed off team.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Right now, and I feel like they're playing for the coach.
- 3:38Speaker 6: To your point, yeah, I think there's some issues there.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I think they're pissed off a little bit, and I'm
- 3:43Speaker 2: afraid they might take it out on the Patriots because
- 3:46Speaker 2: they've had some games where they should have won. You know,
- 3:50Speaker 2: this this season, they've.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Had some one score games for sure. I I do
- 3:54Speaker 7: push back on the like that people think their roster
- 3:56Speaker 7: is loaded.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I didn't say loaded.
- 3:58Speaker 6: They No, I'm not saying you unloaded.
- 4:00Speaker 7: But I feel like that's a big narrative, is that
- 4:03Speaker 7: they're they're underachieving big time. The rosters loaded. They they
- 4:08Speaker 7: have a really good quarterback. They're a really good quarterback.
- 4:11Speaker 7: They have a really good weapon in Keenan Allen.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But don't you think their defense is playing pretty well too?
- 4:18Speaker 6: No, it's the.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Dead last in past defense. Their their their offense is
- 4:23Speaker 7: playing well. Their offenses is eighth and scoring eighth and epa.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I thought you just watched a little bit of the
- 4:30Speaker 2: game last week. It seemed like their defense was.
- 4:33Speaker 8: They played well that night? Yeah, now that this is fine?
- 4:35Speaker 7: How was their best defensive partmance of the year.
- 4:37Speaker 6: Sometimes the stats can can kill you, Like I thought
- 4:40Speaker 6: they played really well, I agree with you, Freddy that night,
- 4:43Speaker 6: and then they end up You look at the end
- 4:44Speaker 6: of the game, the Ravens ran for one hundred and
- 4:46Speaker 6: ninety seven yards. It was really deceptive. Yeah, because the
- 4:49Speaker 6: conventional runs that Baltimore did. The Chargers did a really
- 4:52Speaker 6: good job. Lamar Jackson and Gus Edwards. Those are the
- 4:56Speaker 6: two guys that when they run the ball, you know
- 4:57Speaker 6: they're running, and they held them both well under four
- 5:00Speaker 6: yards of carry. Yeah, but then Zay Flowers has like
- 5:03Speaker 6: a thirty seven yard touchdown run.
- 5:05Speaker 1: You know, was that the same the Lions game? They
- 5:08Speaker 1: give up two hundred yards to the Lions two Was
- 5:09Speaker 1: that the same kind of kind of thing?
- 5:11Speaker 6: They get two hundred yards rushing to the Lions because
- 5:13Speaker 6: they're not bad run defense. Statistically, they're okay the pass
- 5:16Speaker 6: defense that's like thirty I think it's thirty second, thirty
- 5:19Speaker 6: first in.
- 5:20Speaker 7: They might be okay in yards, but their run defenses
- 5:24Speaker 7: is twenty first in EPA. I mean they're they're for
- 5:27Speaker 7: three years under Brendan Staley, they've been a bad run defense.
- 5:29Speaker 7: They're thirty first thing. There's I'm saying that in that respect,
- 5:34Speaker 7: this matchup is not terrible for the Patriots that we
- 5:37Speaker 7: talked about this a little bit on the on the
- 5:38Speaker 7: video preview. They're a Fangio style defense, so they play
- 5:41Speaker 7: a lot of too high safeties. They play light boxes,
- 5:44Speaker 7: too high safeties. So they gave up two hundred yards
- 5:46Speaker 7: against the Ravens because all they care about is stopping
- 5:48Speaker 7: the pass.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Chick has always done well against that defense. The Tampa
- 5:52Speaker 2: two is that like a Tampa two.
- 5:53Speaker 8: No, No, Okay, you don't have to be so dismissing question.
- 5:58Speaker 7: I was just I said no, sorry, and I didn't
- 6:03Speaker 7: need to come off so aggressive Tampa two.
- 6:06Speaker 6: No. No.
- 6:07Speaker 7: So Tampa two defenses are you know, this is more
- 6:10Speaker 7: of like a quarters based defense. So they have you know,
- 6:14Speaker 7: four over the top and then they rotate into three.
- 6:16Speaker 7: They play a lot of palms coverage. If we really
- 6:18Speaker 7: want to get into.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It, yeah, palms up or palms down.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I guess in this case palms up.
- 6:26Speaker 7: I suppose, uh, palms coverage, which is a match coverage
- 6:31Speaker 7: out of quarters based shells. But the biggest thing is
- 6:34Speaker 7: is that they they play with lighter boxes. They'll they'll
- 6:37Speaker 7: play with neutral boxes seven guys or even six.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Guys, right, because all we want to do is run.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Well, well, that's what I said to Evan. I said,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, if you're the Chargers, don't you look at
- 6:45Speaker 1: the Patriots and say, we don't need to get two
- 6:47Speaker 1: safeties back? Does nobody that can throw deep?
- 6:49Speaker 2: Like, well, if that's what most teams have been doing,
- 6:51Speaker 2: they don't care.
- 6:51Speaker 8: Just get that.
- 6:53Speaker 7: That's what you would think. And I I'll give Brendan
- 6:56Speaker 7: Staley this. He gets a lot of heat understandably because
- 7:00Speaker 7: of his game management, right, Like I don't feel like
- 7:03Speaker 7: his actual schematic coaching is bad on defense, but game
- 7:07Speaker 7: management wise, there've been a disaster, you know, going forward
- 7:10Speaker 7: on fourth down a ton just managing like that Week
- 7:13Speaker 7: eighteen game last year, they play everybody, bunch of guys
- 7:16Speaker 7: get hurt, then they blow the twenty seven point lead
- 7:18Speaker 7: against the Jags, and you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 7:21Speaker 7: But defensively, game plan wise, he's been really really good
- 7:25Speaker 7: on the most part for the.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Last year or so.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Last year, a lot of their blueprints, like they put
- 7:30Speaker 7: out a lot of the blueprints against like Kansas City, Miami,
- 7:34Speaker 7: like those teams Miami, especially the Chargers blueprint is what
- 7:38Speaker 7: everybody uses now to stop or try to stop the
- 7:41Speaker 7: Dolphins offense. So in a lot of ways, I think
- 7:44Speaker 7: he's had some good game plans. So maybe he does
- 7:47Speaker 7: have a game plan defense this week where he doesn't
- 7:51Speaker 7: play with light boxes and says, we know we're not
- 7:53Speaker 7: you're not gonna beat us down the field on the outside,
- 7:55Speaker 7: and we just have to stop the run.
- 7:57Speaker 6: But we'll see.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I don't know any coach who doesn't look at it
- 8:00Speaker 2: that way. Is that's, you know, dereliction of duty on
- 8:06Speaker 2: the hot seat? Well yeah, but Ane, that was that
- 8:08Speaker 2: the Patriots and says got to watch out for those
- 8:11Speaker 2: shot plays.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You know, I think you're crazy.
- 8:14Speaker 6: No, yeah, I agree with you on that. I wouldn't
- 8:16Speaker 6: necessarily like, I wouldn't kill them if he said, well,
- 8:23Speaker 6: I know they're going to run the ball, and I'll
- 8:24Speaker 6: let them run the ball.
- 8:25Speaker 8: A little bit. That's they're not going to beat us
- 8:27Speaker 8: doing that.
- 8:28Speaker 6: But your second part of that, if you're sitting there,
- 8:31Speaker 6: you know everybody's back, and you're wondering about them throwing
- 8:33Speaker 6: the ball over the top, No, I would that's done.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I mean, I'd play up, I you know, dare them
- 8:39Speaker 2: to throw deep. I'd play man, you know, I you know,
- 8:44Speaker 2: i'd stuff the box more often than not. You know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: I just funnel everything to the middle. Actually you don't
- 8:50Speaker 2: even have.
- 8:51Speaker 1: To do that. I mean, it's just you look at it.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It's just there's nothing really that scaring me. And I'm
- 8:57Speaker 2: just going to stop their run because that's what they
- 8:59Speaker 2: want to do.
- 9:00Speaker 6: And I agree with Evan and I think we both
- 9:02Speaker 6: talked about this early in the season. Coach not about
- 9:05Speaker 6: the palms coverage. I have to be completely upfront and said,
- 9:08Speaker 6: I've never heard the term palms coverage before.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So that's is that p a l m or pom
- 9:13Speaker 1: palms like a pomegranate. Honestly, I've not just goes out
- 9:19Speaker 1: like that.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Usually the stuff that you're talking about, I might not
- 9:22Speaker 6: know all the intricacies and what you're talking about.
- 9:23Speaker 8: I've heard all the time.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I've never heard the same as umbrella coverage.
- 9:27Speaker 7: Sure, yeah kind of. Actually, yeah, that's closer than Tampa too.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you're with Freda.
- 9:33Speaker 6: And we all we all ve together, and it was
- 9:35Speaker 6: that nice enough to be a compliment.
- 9:38Speaker 8: We've all come together.
- 9:39Speaker 6: But I agree with Evan about the overall. I think
- 9:42Speaker 6: that they have talent, but they don't have a ton
- 9:45Speaker 6: of depth. Number one, and I think that's true, and
- 9:49Speaker 6: they also have you know, and Micha Lombardi will tell
- 9:53Speaker 6: you this is because of the way they set it up.
- 9:55Speaker 6: They always seem to lose the key guys, you know,
- 9:57Speaker 6: Like I think there was a big difference with their
- 9:59Speaker 6: off when you take Mike Williams out of it and
- 10:02Speaker 6: he's missed most of the year. I mean, Austin Eckler
- 10:05Speaker 6: missed a month early on in the season with a
- 10:07Speaker 6: high ankle sprain. So Joey Bosa hurt, Now, yeah, he's
- 10:11Speaker 6: kind of you know, he's always hurt, you know, but
- 10:14Speaker 6: tight muscles. But I you know, like, yeah, like guys
- 10:17Speaker 6: like Lombardi will tell you that's not an accident until
- 10:20Speaker 6: the Patriots get best with injuries and then all of
- 10:22Speaker 6: a sudden, well it's just tough brads. So you look
- 10:26Speaker 6: at their schedule and yeah, I agree. You know, everybody
- 10:31Speaker 6: loses close games. But I look at them some of
- 10:33Speaker 6: their losses against good teams. They lose thirty six thirty
- 10:36Speaker 6: four to Miami, they lose twenty to seventeen to Dallas,
- 10:40Speaker 6: they lose forty one thirty eight to Detroit. You know,
- 10:45Speaker 6: these are good teams that they're right there with. Now,
- 10:49Speaker 6: what kills them. They shouldn't be four and seven. You
- 10:51Speaker 6: can't lose to Green Bay a game that they absolutely
- 10:54Speaker 6: dominated and found a way to lose it. And then
- 10:57Speaker 6: you know you're losing to you know, earlier in the year,
- 11:01Speaker 6: to Tennessee. You can't lose those games, you know. So
- 11:05Speaker 6: you probably if you're six and five, you're still on
- 11:07Speaker 6: the on the fringes of playoff contention. But you four
- 11:10Speaker 6: and seven, now your margin fererra is gone. They probably
- 11:13Speaker 6: have to win out to have a chance.
- 11:14Speaker 1: For me, it's just the quarterbacks, you know, That's just
- 11:16Speaker 1: what it comes down to. That's why I can't It's
- 11:18Speaker 1: hard to see. You don't know who's gonna even be
- 11:19Speaker 1: playing again this weekend.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm Hurt's better Remember the day that West Coast
- 11:24Speaker 2: team would come in for a one o'clock game.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It's like, I don't even even it's in the back
- 11:28Speaker 1: of my mind. I mean, I don't think it's you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: I think the refor is coming out and playing, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: kind of shady and not not putting in the max effort.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And a couple of players go to the Patriots ways
- 11:36Speaker 1: and they're like, you know what, forget it.
- 11:38Speaker 6: But I wonder if they think that Staley's done, They're
- 11:41Speaker 6: done with stay away the players and they just sort
- 11:44Speaker 6: of say, you know what, we're not going to win
- 11:45Speaker 6: the rest of the games.
- 11:46Speaker 1: We're out of it.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I know, but I don't. I don't see the modern
- 11:48Speaker 2: NFL player doing that. I mean, every game is an audition,
- 11:51Speaker 2: you know, for you individually. So I don't know, you.
- 11:54Speaker 8: Don't think that.
- 11:55Speaker 6: I think there've been examples of teams that have mailed
- 11:57Speaker 6: in games, especially in this kind of situation. I think,
- 11:59Speaker 6: coming all the way across, I feel like playing this game, Yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 6: a long flay.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I just think I think there's more often guys like,
- 12:06Speaker 2: you know, an injury that I'd played with last week and.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'm not gonna play this week. You know. Well that's
- 12:10Speaker 1: more like that.
- 12:11Speaker 8: Yeah, that's part of what I'm talking about.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Yeah, Like I think the guys able to be trying. Yeah,
- 12:16Speaker 6: but do you remember, and I know you will. Do
- 12:18Speaker 6: you remember that game that that me and Andy were
- 12:20Speaker 6: in the press box when Arizona came in and there
- 12:23Speaker 6: was a little snow on the ground in Arizona.
- 12:25Speaker 8: Was good thatzon I had a good team.
- 12:27Speaker 1: This was a Kurt Warner team and we just we just.
- 12:30Speaker 6: Looked down on it and we both looked at Fred.
- 12:33Speaker 6: They got no shot, and He's like, what are you
- 12:35Speaker 6: guys talking about this? Just look at them. They just
- 12:37Speaker 6: look cold.
- 12:38Speaker 1: They were all like, this wasn't that that went to
- 12:41Speaker 1: the Super Bowl? Oh yeah, they mailed.
- 12:43Speaker 8: They completely mailed the game.
- 12:44Speaker 7: And I mean the Chargers team that came in here
- 12:46Speaker 7: for the eighteen playoff game, well that was like it
- 12:49Speaker 7: was like ten degrees that day. It was freezing, and
- 12:51Speaker 7: I remember being on field level and looking at the
- 12:53Speaker 7: Chargers and they're all like, oh god.
- 12:56Speaker 8: They competed.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I mean that game was never in doubt. Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 6: you know it was. It was a thirteen point game
- 13:02Speaker 6: that was never in doubt. But they at least, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 6: in the second half they're down, they kept scoring. Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 6: it was like forty one to twenty eight. Again, I know,
- 13:09Speaker 6: the game was never in question, but they at least competed.
- 13:13Speaker 6: The Cardinals were just like, we'll see you next one.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But that was a pretty good matchup going into and
- 13:17Speaker 1: if I remember, like the Chargers hadn't lost on the
- 13:19Speaker 1: road in a long time, and I just remember a
- 13:21Speaker 1: lot of people thinking like this is gonna be a
- 13:23Speaker 1: really I thought that.
- 13:23Speaker 8: Was going to be a tough game of game.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeaheah.
- 13:26Speaker 7: A lot of people picked the Patriots to lose. That
- 13:28Speaker 7: was the whole I thought that.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Patriots team was flawed. Yeah, I thought they were unimpressive
- 13:34Speaker 6: in in getting to the playoffs.
- 13:35Speaker 8: I thought they had they were going to have trouble
- 13:37Speaker 8: that day.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yeah, and they didn't. They just they rolled. Yeah, running game.
- 13:41Speaker 6: So you say that was the team that had member
- 13:44Speaker 6: that they were playing all the state. I think Adrian
- 13:46Speaker 6: Phillips was playing middle linebacker that day. Yeah, yep, old
- 13:49Speaker 6: friend trying to take on James Devil.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So you're saying there's a chance, now, I think there's
- 13:54Speaker 2: always a chance.
- 13:55Speaker 8: I think there's a chance that Chargers are done.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I just I can't lay out like what has to
- 14:00Speaker 1: happen and realistically tell you like, oh well, if mac
- 14:03Speaker 1: Bailey's appy starts throwing it all over the yard, like
- 14:05Speaker 1: the Patriots can win, Like it's like they've got to
- 14:06Speaker 1: make a leap of five.
- 14:07Speaker 8: Chances have nothing to do with anything except.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Normally I would I would say, you know what, I
- 14:12Speaker 2: might be picking the Patriots this week, but I can't
- 14:15Speaker 2: get over what's going on at quarterback for this team,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and you can't win a football game by just running
- 14:20Speaker 2: the ball in today's NFL, you know, teams like if
- 14:24Speaker 2: I was them, I would stack that box. I would
- 14:27Speaker 2: play man. I would dare them to throw and I
- 14:31Speaker 2: just if I have to. But until they prove to
- 14:34Speaker 2: me that they, you know, can do that, I'm gonna
- 14:38Speaker 2: make life really hard on the running game as much
- 14:40Speaker 2: as I can. And I'll send pressure anytime it's you know,
- 14:44Speaker 2: third and a passing down.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean, do you even yeah, I mean every time,
- 14:48Speaker 1: do you even think about like it just seems like
- 14:49Speaker 1: the Patriots quarterbacks are so scared to throw downfield? Now
- 14:52Speaker 1: do you try to kind of bait them and you know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: maybe you're not in cover two initially, but you're gonna
- 14:58Speaker 1: get there after the snap, and you know, I mean
- 15:00Speaker 1: try to try to point to try to play with them.
- 15:02Speaker 6: The weather's supposed to be like on Sunday. Yeah, can
- 15:05Speaker 6: you imagine Mac throwing downfield? If you know the other
- 15:08Speaker 6: I can once.
- 15:10Speaker 1: On the weather, he's gonna be Herbert will be just fire.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I think it's supposed to be these forties yeah, yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Forty five percent chance of rain, forty nine degrees.
- 15:19Speaker 7: I just look at the Chargers offense, which is holding
- 15:22Speaker 7: up its end of the bargain more times than I know.
- 15:24Speaker 7: They didn't last week. But they're eighth and scoring, like
- 15:27Speaker 7: I said, and justin Herbert is unbelievably good.
- 15:30Speaker 6: Yeah, and they've gone just to Evans point thirty four,
- 15:33Speaker 6: twenty four, twenty eight, twenty four, two seventeens, then thirty
- 15:37Speaker 6: twenty seven, thirty eight, and then twenty in ten.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Is there anything to be taken from the fact that
- 15:43Speaker 2: Belichick the Patriots defense has done a pretty good job
- 15:47Speaker 2: against Herbert so far in his career.
- 15:50Speaker 7: Yes, to an extent, I think, but it was early
- 15:54Speaker 7: in Herbert's career, his first two years in the league.
- 15:56Speaker 8: It was really the first year.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Yeah, in the second year they had they had the
- 16:00Speaker 6: lead in the fourth quarter, and you know, to again
- 16:03Speaker 6: Adrian Phillips.
- 16:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I think there is something to be said for
- 16:07Speaker 7: I think the one thing that Herbert in the offense
- 16:09Speaker 7: has had trouble with, which is what happened last week,
- 16:11Speaker 7: was was pressure. You know, Baltimore had forty one percent
- 16:14Speaker 7: pressure rate on Herbert and dialed up some blitzes while
- 16:18Speaker 7: time blitzes things like that that really caught them by
- 16:21Speaker 7: surprise and seemed to affect them. So if you can,
- 16:24Speaker 7: if you can get after Herbert a little bit, then
- 16:26Speaker 7: I like any offense, you can kind of take it
- 16:28Speaker 7: down a little Allen, Allen, would you.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Consider Herbert mobile?
- 16:32Speaker 7: Yes, yes, yeah, thirty five yard run in the game.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I just think about some of those what about like
- 16:38Speaker 1: in the like in the phone booth type of mobile.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Yeah, he's very big difference because Evan's right, he's under
- 16:44Speaker 6: he's under a lot of pressure a lot of the.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But why is that some of his own making?
- 16:49Speaker 6: No, I think the offensive line is struggling.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I mean I do think that there's maybe
- 16:53Speaker 1: some issues with him knowing what club to use and
- 16:56Speaker 1: trying to gun it in there a little bit too much,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. But I just think of some
- 17:00Speaker 1: of the bloom coverages we've seen over the last few
- 17:02Speaker 1: weeks of guys that, like you know, jac Jackson, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: I mean they hit a couple of them, but but
- 17:07Speaker 1: there were other ones to be had, and I don't
- 17:08Speaker 1: think Herbert's a kind of one where if he has
- 17:10Speaker 1: a little bit of space he can rifle it down
- 17:12Speaker 1: there hit those.
- 17:13Speaker 7: Places they have forty past plays of over twenty yards
- 17:16Speaker 7: this season forty and they they he has the capability
- 17:20Speaker 7: of making any throw at any time, anywhere. Yeah, I
- 17:23Speaker 7: mean the throw he made against the Packers. I know
- 17:25Speaker 7: the guy dropped it, but that perfect unbelievable. I mean
- 17:29Speaker 7: it's and he makes those types of throws on a
- 17:31Speaker 7: weekly basis, muddied pockets so cross the field far hash
- 17:35Speaker 7: like whole shots down the field. It doesn't make a difference.
- 17:38Speaker 7: I think a lot of people look at him and say, oh,
- 17:41Speaker 7: you know, they're four and seven. He's not a winner,
- 17:43Speaker 7: you know that type of stuff. Like if you watch
- 17:46Speaker 7: the games and watch him play, he he's a little
- 17:51Speaker 7: I think that a little.
- 17:52Speaker 6: I wonder about it because if he just one of
- 17:55Speaker 6: those guys that kind of finds a way to play
- 17:57Speaker 6: really well all the time but doesn't always win.
- 17:59Speaker 7: Yeah, last year they had that in college too. Last
- 18:02Speaker 7: year they did win though, no I don't. And he
- 18:04Speaker 7: had five game winning drives last year in their ten wins.
- 18:08Speaker 6: So, and like you said, like the Green Bay game,
- 18:10Speaker 6: they're at Lambeau, which is a tough place to play,
- 18:12Speaker 6: even if the Packers aren't great, he basically let a
- 18:16Speaker 6: touchdown drive and they screwed him.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Okay, I think Eckler too, is just I mean, he's
- 18:22Speaker 1: been in and out of the lineup. I mean I
- 18:23Speaker 1: think he's as you know, characteristic of this team as
- 18:26Speaker 1: anybody where it's when he's in there and it's clicking,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and he's fast and he can do a little bit
- 18:29Speaker 1: of everything. He's just got such a burst.
- 18:31Speaker 6: I wonder what he'll be as a receiver on Sunday.
- 18:33Speaker 6: To you a point, Mike, Yeah, because I think that
- 18:36Speaker 6: going back to what you say, like, you know, back
- 18:38Speaker 6: in the old days, you know, one o'clock chargers come in,
- 18:40Speaker 6: you well, you would think there's no way they're going
- 18:43Speaker 6: to let Keenan Allen do what he does to everybody else. Right,
- 18:46Speaker 6: you know, Keenan Allen has literally like seventy more catches
- 18:49Speaker 6: than number two.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Oh that it's crazy.
- 18:50Speaker 6: It's like one hundred to twenty nine or something like.
- 18:53Speaker 6: I think he has ninety seven catches. Yeah, so you
- 18:56Speaker 6: go to you know, normally Bill would just say, well,
- 18:59Speaker 6: I'm not going to let that happened. But I don't
- 19:01Speaker 6: know you're not going to let that happen, right, I
- 19:04Speaker 6: don't know if you can.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Trust that Allen's got the fourth most or sorry, third
- 19:07Speaker 1: most receptions through eleven games in NFL history, with ninety
- 19:11Speaker 1: seven catches. That the top Michael Thomas in twenty nineteen
- 19:13Speaker 1: hundred voice like changed Harrison has a hundred very official. Yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 1: Michael was, Yeah, it's I think a little something in
- 19:20Speaker 1: there and give me a little bit of a de Yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you got a little something.
- 19:25Speaker 2: You mentioned White going on, you know, coaching matchup. There
- 19:29Speaker 2: was a time, you know, Staley vous Belichick be like,
- 19:33Speaker 2: this is huge advantage for the Patriots. Is it that
- 19:36Speaker 2: much in this game coaching advantage lately? Because Staley's on
- 19:40Speaker 2: the hot seat, right, but so is Bill Belichick.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Schematically, No, I don't think it is, because I think
- 19:45Speaker 7: that Kellen Moore is a pretty good offensive coordinator and Staley,
- 19:49Speaker 7: I still think is capable of coaching defense. Staley is
- 19:53Speaker 7: capable of deciding to lose the game for them, like
- 19:57Speaker 7: he'll go.
- 19:57Speaker 6: For it on fourth down.
- 19:58Speaker 8: Hasn't done it as much.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Yeah, they've been less aggressive this year, and he's almost
- 20:02Speaker 7: like corrected way too far to the other side of
- 20:05Speaker 7: the spectrum to try to save his job. It feels like, yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 7: and so it's possible, but you know, the Keenan Allen point.
- 20:12Speaker 7: He also has the most receiving yards against non defensive
- 20:15Speaker 7: backs amongst wide receivers because they use him in the
- 20:19Speaker 7: slot a lot and they're really good at moving him around,
- 20:21Speaker 7: so he gets a lot of matchups on linebackers out
- 20:24Speaker 7: of the slot and he just kills lines amazing.
- 20:26Speaker 6: How often you know, you think that the guy that's
- 20:29Speaker 6: really the one guy, right, you think if they're going
- 20:32Speaker 6: to go to him twelve fourteen tight and they do routine,
- 20:34Speaker 6: he's double digit targets every week, right, and you'd be like, well,
- 20:38Speaker 6: he must catch a lot of balls in traffic, and
- 20:39Speaker 6: then you watch the highlights and it's like, no.
- 20:41Speaker 8: He just gets open.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I did that exactly.
- 20:43Speaker 8: That makes sense. What Evan's time.
- 20:45Speaker 7: And they motion him, they put him, you know in
- 20:47Speaker 7: different you know, three by one stacks bunches in the
- 20:50Speaker 7: slot and they just keep moving them around and it's
- 20:53Speaker 7: like finding Waldo. You know, you got to find him
- 20:55Speaker 7: on every single play.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Right, So I want to play a little fill in
- 20:57Speaker 2: the blank game. Okay, I love games. Go around the
- 21:01Speaker 2: bench here. I know the Patriots are gonna win this
- 21:04Speaker 2: game when blank defensive score. Okay, how about you Evan,
- 21:10Speaker 2: I know the Patriots are gonna win when.
- 21:14Speaker 7: Justin Herbert's on his backside the entire game.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Okay, I'll say that the Chargers.
- 21:22Speaker 8: Get shut out in the first quarter.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Okay, wow early not No.
- 21:28Speaker 6: It means that they're not scoring. Okay, like if they
- 21:30Speaker 6: score points, I don't see any way the Patriots win.
- 21:32Speaker 2: This is a lot easier. But I know the Patriots
- 21:34Speaker 2: are gonna lose when.
- 21:36Speaker 6: Starts, the Charge is scoring, The Charge is scoring their
- 21:40Speaker 6: opening drive. Ye, Justin Herberts does Justin looks like Justin.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Herbert goes right down the field.
- 21:45Speaker 7: And your point about the busted coverages and the explosive
- 21:50Speaker 7: plays the Patriots have given up, this is a team
- 21:52Speaker 7: that will take advantage of all of that.
- 21:54Speaker 6: You know, if you if you're.
- 21:56Speaker 7: Letting guys run free through the secondary, He's gonna find them.
- 21:59Speaker 7: So this is not You're not playing Tommy Tommy Cutlets
- 22:02Speaker 7: this time around.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I think too. You said getting Allen on linebackers, get
- 22:06Speaker 1: Eckler on linebackers. I mean, if you could get Eckler
- 22:08Speaker 1: on Tavia or on Bentley, you know, trying to trying
- 22:11Speaker 1: to work those matchups. He's he's tough, he's tough, he's quick.
- 22:14Speaker 2: If the Patriots win this game, the headline will be blank.
- 22:20Speaker 1: The defense score. I don't know. Bailey's Appy played great?
- 22:23Speaker 2: Maybe Bailey's Bailey Zappi hour?
- 22:28Speaker 7: Why?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Why? Why did they win? Why are you doing this
- 22:33Speaker 2: to us?
- 22:33Speaker 6: Yeah, something like that though, like Zappi probably played and
- 22:37Speaker 6: gave him a little bit of a spark. And you
- 22:40Speaker 6: know the Chargers.
- 22:41Speaker 1: They took it away from Herbert a couple of.
- 22:43Speaker 6: Times, and I mean a ton of picks.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But you can make mistakes, okay, but.
- 22:50Speaker 6: You also can hold them down in the red zone
- 22:52Speaker 6: because they love to run Eckler in the red zone.
- 22:56Speaker 6: The Patriots run defense has been really good. Yeah, so
- 23:00Speaker 6: you know, maybe you get down there and they're not
- 23:02Speaker 6: getting touchdowns because they can't get Ekler in the end zone.
- 23:05Speaker 7: They're the number one run defense in DVOA in the
- 23:07Speaker 7: league right now, the.
- 23:09Speaker 6: One area of the team that I think has been
- 23:11Speaker 6: consistently at a high level all year.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I think it's a good switch up, though, for them
- 23:15Speaker 1: to face Eckler, because you've had Brian Robinson, big dude,
- 23:18Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor, pretty big dude, Saquon pretty big, you know,
- 23:22Speaker 1: bigger backs that they've had recently. He's a little bit
- 23:24Speaker 1: more small, jitterbug, that kind of style. Yeah, I worry
- 23:27Speaker 1: more different kind of challenge.
- 23:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree, And that's always been traditionally the guys
- 23:31Speaker 6: that give them more trouble. But to me, it's more.
- 23:33Speaker 8: As a receiver for this guy.
- 23:34Speaker 6: Yeah, he's a really good player.
- 23:35Speaker 1: At I mean, I think it's just injuries with him.
- 23:37Speaker 1: If he didn't get injured, I think keeping one of
- 23:39Speaker 1: the you know, one of those superstars.
- 23:41Speaker 7: He's like out of the flow of the offense a
- 23:43Speaker 7: little bit because of the injuries. He's not having the
- 23:46Speaker 7: same year.
- 23:46Speaker 6: That he had last year.
- 23:47Speaker 7: No, And I think a big reason why is once
- 23:49Speaker 7: you get hurt, now all of a sudden, you're kind
- 23:51Speaker 7: of jumping onto the moving train, so to speak. And
- 23:54Speaker 7: I think he's had trouble doing that. It's a new
- 23:57Speaker 7: offensive coordinator that probably still feeling out exactly how to
- 24:00Speaker 7: use a running back like Eckler, and it hasn't exactly
- 24:03Speaker 7: come to for Wichy for.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Him, Yeah, it was a day when San Diego would
- 24:09Speaker 2: pull in for a one o'clock game and be licking
- 24:11Speaker 2: your chops getting ready for this.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But it is crazy though, that just they've they beat
- 24:15Speaker 1: the Patriots twice in like the last twenty years. It
- 24:18Speaker 1: was that two thousand and five game, and it was
- 24:20Speaker 1: two thousand and eight against Castle game in San Diego
- 24:22Speaker 1: that I that I went to. I mean, that's otherwise
- 24:24Speaker 1: they they owned them the whole freaking time. Yeah, pretty remarkable.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But Philip Rivers was good, you know.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but he was hurt. That one game he
- 24:35Speaker 2: had an acl that he played through in crazy. That
- 24:38Speaker 2: was the Ladanian Tomlinson checkout game.
- 24:41Speaker 1: It was yeah, it was, you know, we were I
- 24:44Speaker 1: was looking for the picture of that. It's just a
- 24:45Speaker 1: great picture of him just on the bench with this
- 24:48Speaker 1: with his vizor on and he's got the big jacket.
- 24:49Speaker 6: On and just just sitting there.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You can't see his eyes because he's got the shield on.
- 24:53Speaker 1: But that was that was probably the most most memorable
- 24:56Speaker 1: moment of that AFC championship. But it was close though.
- 24:58Speaker 8: I mean, I remember that was a good game.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Only had to had was a big part I thought
- 25:02Speaker 1: in running it, you know, run into the win.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Kevin Falk made an absolutely insane catch on a third
- 25:08Speaker 6: down at the end that diving extended a drive that
- 25:14Speaker 6: they ended up getting a field goal. That made it
- 25:16Speaker 6: a two school game. I think they won twenty one
- 25:17Speaker 6: to twelve, so that was a score yep. And they
- 25:20Speaker 6: got a field. I think they got a maybe they
- 25:22Speaker 6: got a touchdown on it to make it a two
- 25:24Speaker 6: score game, but was twenty one to twelve, but it
- 25:27Speaker 6: was close. I think it might have been fourteen twelve
- 25:29Speaker 6: and they were on the verge of giving the ball
- 25:31Speaker 6: back to the Chargers and he I remember Falk making
- 25:35Speaker 6: like a one handed catch on a ball way behind
- 25:37Speaker 6: him and spun.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember that.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Uh.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Just crazy. The contrast though, between the six divisional game,
- 25:43Speaker 1: where this was a fourteen and two Chargers team like
- 25:45Speaker 1: looking like, hey, we're ready to go, and then the
- 25:47Speaker 1: next year you had the seven Patriots, which were just
- 25:49Speaker 1: one of the all time. Like, it's just strange how
- 25:51Speaker 1: quickly the roles kind of reversed, and of course the
- 25:54Speaker 1: injuries played a big part for the Chargers.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Out from Wisconsin, says The headline of the Patriots win
- 25:59Speaker 2: is the Charge has become the first team to miss
- 26:01Speaker 2: the flight to Massachusetts.
- 26:04Speaker 6: Wow.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 26:04Speaker 6: Wow.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Well that's so you're saying there's no chance. Well it
- 26:09Speaker 1: is a little chance, but I don't know. I don't
- 26:11Speaker 1: really have like an optimistic little I mean, I've had
- 26:13Speaker 1: a little bit of optimism against the Giants, against the Colts,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and those are bad teams with backup quarterbacks. And this
- 26:20Speaker 1: is justin Herbert, and I think that's Patriots pass defense
- 26:23Speaker 1: is a little suspect and we don't know who their
- 26:24Speaker 1: quarterback is.
- 26:25Speaker 6: So, Mike, you like when I gave you the random
- 26:27Speaker 6: like red zone moments from earlier in the year, Please,
- 26:30Speaker 6: we're talking about the fourth down thing for Staley, and
- 26:33Speaker 6: I did I was looking when I did it. He
- 26:35Speaker 6: hasn't gone for the fourth downs anywhere near as often
- 26:37Speaker 6: as he normally does, only twenty all year, Like as
- 26:42Speaker 6: a point of comparison, opponents have gone twenty seven times
- 26:46Speaker 6: against the Chargers. But I think that Minnesota game earlier
- 26:52Speaker 6: in the year, they had the ball up four and
- 26:54Speaker 6: they had like a fourth and like inches from like
- 26:57Speaker 6: their own twenty five yard line. He went for it, Yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 6: and they didn't get it. And now they ended up
- 27:03Speaker 6: lucking out because.
- 27:03Speaker 1: They stopped it.
- 27:04Speaker 6: They stopped the Vikings, and I wonder if that one
- 27:07Speaker 6: was finally the one to lie. I can't do this anymore.
- 27:09Speaker 6: I just can't, like he just finally scared them straight,
- 27:13Speaker 6: you know.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Will writes in there's really not much to look forward
- 27:17Speaker 2: to this season, However, I'm excited to see the return
- 27:19Speaker 2: of Pat Patriot this week. It is a throwback game.
- 27:23Speaker 2: This would have been an all time uniform matchup. If
- 27:25Speaker 2: the Chargers were wearing their Navy or royal alternatives, it
- 27:28Speaker 2: would have brought me back to the happier Color Rush days.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Is there a rule about teams wearing alternative alternatives on
- 27:35Speaker 2: the same week.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't I don't think.
- 27:39Speaker 6: I don't know, and I we were talking about that
- 27:42Speaker 6: earlier in the week. I don't know if there's a
- 27:43Speaker 6: rule about, Like you know how USC and U c
- 27:46Speaker 6: l A they both wear their home uniforms when they play. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 6: Is there a rule that you can't do that in
- 27:53Speaker 6: the NFL?
- 27:53Speaker 2: I think it has to do with the colors. Frankly,
- 27:56Speaker 2: I think, like could there's an eighty eight thing for
- 27:59Speaker 2: people who are color blind. If they're the type of
- 28:02Speaker 2: colors that can be mixed up for a color blind person,
- 28:05Speaker 2: you can't do it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Was it like a Tampa game. I remember a game
- 28:08Speaker 1: early in those color rushes where it was two teams
- 28:09Speaker 1: that like the colorblind. People were like, I have no idea,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I can't tell these teams, but it was like an all.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Red that reminds me I have about I have a theory,
- 28:19Speaker 2: and I know this is going down a whole different path.
- 28:22Speaker 2: But you brought up color Rush and the last time
- 28:25Speaker 2: Seattle played, they wore their neon green things. And I
- 28:30Speaker 2: have a theory that it is a disadvantage for Seattle
- 28:35Speaker 2: to wear those uniforms.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And the reason I say that is.
- 28:40Speaker 2: The way your mind, you know, in your eyesight, registers
- 28:45Speaker 2: things when you see it. So like you know, especially
- 28:48Speaker 2: if like a running back has has the ball, he's
- 28:51Speaker 2: probably he's taking in things through his eyesight and his
- 28:54Speaker 2: mind is making calculations, like probably thousands of calculations you know,
- 28:58Speaker 2: per second, like based on what he sees. But when
- 29:02Speaker 2: it's a bright color, it tricks your mind into thinking
- 29:06Speaker 2: whatever you're seeing is faster and closer than it actually is,
- 29:10Speaker 2: and your mind reacts quicker like a red car, like
- 29:12Speaker 2: a red car. And and I my theory is that
- 29:16Speaker 2: you know, for example, when a running back has the
- 29:18Speaker 2: ball and the Seattle's in their kneon green, you're actually
- 29:22Speaker 2: reacting a tick quicker because what you're seeing flashes faster
- 29:26Speaker 2: in front of you, so your reaction time speeds.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Up just a little bit. Is that just all bright
- 29:31Speaker 1: colors or yeah? Bright bright, Yeah, bright color like that.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I just know the red car thing.
- 29:37Speaker 6: Yeah, so red cars look faster.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Red cars get pulled over, right.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 7: My dad's a big car guy, so he won't let
- 29:44Speaker 7: us buy red cars because of that.
- 29:46Speaker 2: So I think like the raiders have an advance when
- 29:48Speaker 2: they wear they're black and it's a night game especially,
- 29:50Speaker 2: that's an advantage, you know, because you react just that
- 29:54Speaker 2: tick slower than you would when this bright color is
- 29:58Speaker 2: in your field of vision.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Interesting. Yeah, to see what broken tackles are like the
- 30:03Speaker 1: theory I have working theory. Yeah, any other colors on
- 30:07Speaker 1: that one. Yeah. No, Ever, it didn't have a It
- 30:12Speaker 1: didn't make sense to me. I don't know.
- 30:14Speaker 2: So now, as we always say, whatever the subject is
- 30:17Speaker 2: always somebody listening that has an expert.
- 30:20Speaker 8: On I looked forward to some of the experts for.
- 30:22Speaker 1: A highlighter company.
- 30:23Speaker 2: No, but it's like you know a bull that red cape,
- 30:26Speaker 2: you know, and you know the the movement and it
- 30:30Speaker 2: reacts to it. But I just you know it just
- 30:33Speaker 2: makes sense that when something comes into your field of vision,
- 30:36Speaker 2: you react, right. But if it if it's brighter, it
- 30:40Speaker 2: tricks your mind into thinking it's closer and faster than
- 30:43Speaker 2: it actually is.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Well, maybe this week next weekend, we'll see some camouflage
- 30:47Speaker 1: uniforms from Army Navy that will play into that. There
- 30:50Speaker 1: you get away from.
- 30:51Speaker 8: Maybe that's what neither one of those teams can score.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I can't see anything, No one can react. All right.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Eight five to five past five hundred is the sticking
- 31:00Speaker 2: hotline web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It's the email address. My mouse over here.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Let's see what people have to say. Jason's in Connecticut.
- 31:11Speaker 2: What's up, Jason?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Jason?
- 31:16Speaker 2: I mean I really didn't make him wait that one.
- 31:19Speaker 1: No, you know, we started really twelve thirty. Eric's in
- 31:22Speaker 1: New Jersey. Hey, Eric, Hey, Hey you guys doing good. Eric.
- 31:27Speaker 12: I've got two points here. I'll take it off the line.
- 31:30Speaker 12: I've seen Gerard Mayo's interview.
- 31:33Speaker 1: The other day.
- 31:33Speaker 13: Whether he was asked, you know, where he should be
- 31:36Speaker 13: judged off?
- 31:36Speaker 12: His body and work is not his title? Body of work?
- 31:40Speaker 1: What is it that you do?
- 31:42Speaker 14: Nobody knows?
- 31:43Speaker 12: And that's you know, that's my big ripe when you
- 31:44Speaker 12: those guys talk about bringing a Mayo into the folds
- 31:47Speaker 12: for next year. And then just a second observation, I
- 31:51Speaker 12: know Grant and I don't want to pile on Pop
- 31:53Speaker 12: Douglas because I think he's been the shining star of
- 31:55Speaker 12: this team. But you know, compared to the guys you
- 31:58Speaker 12: know that five ten and under from this past I
- 32:00Speaker 12: mean we got we may have the worst of the guys.
- 32:02Speaker 12: I mean you look at Jaden Reed, Josh Down, Tank Dell,
- 32:06Speaker 12: you look at these guys. We're just either obviously you know,
- 32:09Speaker 12: kind of better situations. You know, they're they're producing more.
- 32:12Speaker 12: And I know Evans, you know, showed that screenshot of
- 32:14Speaker 12: you know this past week where the Mario was streaking
- 32:16Speaker 12: down the fields when that.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Kind of missed him.
- 32:18Speaker 12: But it's just I feel like, you know.
- 32:20Speaker 13: The ability, just the talent.
- 32:22Speaker 12: I mean again, even if you want to get those
- 32:24Speaker 12: that five nine, that five preplot guy, we got the
- 32:27Speaker 12: worst of the bunch, and there's opportunities to grab these
- 32:29Speaker 12: guys when we had the opportunities.
- 32:31Speaker 14: And I'll take it off the line.
- 32:32Speaker 6: Thanks, thanks Eric.
- 32:33Speaker 7: I mean I would just say to uh girod Mayo
- 32:36Speaker 7: because I feel like I have to.
- 32:37Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 32:38Speaker 7: I don't feel like I have to defend Mayo, but
- 32:40Speaker 7: I feel like Mayo gets that a lot right of
- 32:44Speaker 7: what is it that you exactly that you do around here?
- 32:46Speaker 7: And I would just say that I think he does
- 32:48Speaker 7: a lot with the defense more.
- 32:51Speaker 6: Than maybe we How do you know that?
- 32:54Speaker 7: Just just to hunt just you know, yeah, I think
- 32:57Speaker 7: I think he does a ton with the defense, a
- 32:59Speaker 7: ton game plan, presenting, coaching in practice, you know, implementing
- 33:04Speaker 7: the game plan, things like that.
- 33:06Speaker 1: And I have no idea the answer.
- 33:08Speaker 2: But if you would say responsibility to defense, take Bill
- 33:11Speaker 2: Belichick out of the picture. Who has more responsibility of
- 33:15Speaker 2: the product that you see on Sunday? Steve or Girod.
- 33:20Speaker 7: Honestly, I really do think it's kind of a fifty
- 33:22Speaker 7: to fifty split.
- 33:24Speaker 6: I really do. I think that Steve.
- 33:26Speaker 7: You know, Steve calls the plays so I think a
- 33:29Speaker 7: lot of the install and the game plan every single
- 33:33Speaker 7: week is based off of playsheet that Steve.
- 33:35Speaker 6: Comes up with.
- 33:36Speaker 7: You're not gonna have somebody else build the play sheet
- 33:38Speaker 7: and then hand it to Steve on Sundays and have
- 33:40Speaker 7: him call the defense. That wouldn't make any sense. But
- 33:42Speaker 7: I think what Gerard is really good at is presenting
- 33:46Speaker 7: and implementing the game plan and getting through to players
- 33:49Speaker 7: about what the game plan is, and actually, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 7: coaching and teaching things, which I think Steve is a
- 33:56Speaker 7: little bit lesser than, and Steve is more of kind
- 33:59Speaker 7: of like so the chef.
- 34:01Speaker 2: If each of them went off to become a defensive coordinator,
- 34:05Speaker 2: who would have the most success.
- 34:08Speaker 7: I think Girod's a better leader, which is why I
- 34:11Speaker 7: think that he's a better.
- 34:12Speaker 1: Head coaching Canada, more cachet.
- 34:14Speaker 7: But I think Steve might be the better like X's
- 34:18Speaker 7: and O's mind, just because that's what his mind has
- 34:21Speaker 7: always been programmed to do. But in general I think
- 34:25Speaker 7: that Gerard is Gerard is more capable. I think of
- 34:28Speaker 7: like leading a room and you know, addressing a room
- 34:32Speaker 7: and leading a room and getting through to guys and
- 34:34Speaker 7: things like that.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I mean, it would seem obvious, you know. The one
- 34:38Speaker 2: thing I would say about Gerard is, you know, before
- 34:41Speaker 2: he became a coach, he was a player, and everybody
- 34:44Speaker 2: knows his reputation there. He was like little Bill, that's
- 34:46Speaker 2: what they called him. He was like a film junkie.
- 34:49Speaker 2: He was really into the x's and o's you know,
- 34:53Speaker 2: but nobody really knows like who does what? And I know,
- 34:57Speaker 2: you know, titles aren't important and all that stuff, and
- 35:01Speaker 2: this is the way Bill has already done it. But
- 35:03Speaker 2: I think it's kind of a disservice to both of them.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Steve N.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Gerrod that people really don't know who does what. You know, now,
- 35:11Speaker 2: I say that, but I'm sure like if another team
- 35:14Speaker 2: was interested in either one of them, it's easy for
- 35:17Speaker 2: them to sit down and explain what they did.
- 35:19Speaker 1: But it's it's, you know, and I'm sure the important
- 35:22Speaker 1: people here know what they're doing, yeah, you know, the
- 35:25Speaker 1: higher ups.
- 35:25Speaker 2: The crafts, you mean, yeah, but it's it's weird because
- 35:30Speaker 2: like you really don't.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Know, you know, Yeah, I don't know. I would say
- 35:34Speaker 1: on the Pop Douglas thing, it's it's hard. I mean,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I get what he's saying on one hand, but on
- 35:38Speaker 1: the other hand, I looked at some of those guys,
- 35:39Speaker 1: and I mean, other than maybe he's a Flowers, you know,
- 35:42Speaker 1: I don't know, they look in the same genre to me,
- 35:45Speaker 1: of and it's just hard to split it because you know,
- 35:47Speaker 1: a guy likes a Flowers, they he has other options there.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I mean, he had Mark Andrews. He has OBJ. I mean,
- 35:52Speaker 1: pop Tug is kind of the only thing they have
- 35:54Speaker 1: right now. So it's a rookie slot receiver who who
- 35:56Speaker 1: I'll admit, is small and I worry about long term
- 35:59Speaker 1: holding up being a consistent seventeen game contributor for the team.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But for six round pick, I'm pretty happy with.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 8: I think it's different than.
- 36:09Speaker 6: You know, I say, the Taekwon Thornton, you know, criticism,
- 36:13Speaker 6: because those guys are all taking it like the Mario
- 36:17Speaker 6: Douglas should be a notch below Josh Downs in Tank
- 36:20Speaker 6: Dell and read from Green Bay. He was taken well after.
- 36:25Speaker 6: I think all of them.
- 36:27Speaker 7: Guys all right, Josh Downs might have been No, I
- 36:30Speaker 7: think they're all day too, they too.
- 36:31Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, so yeah, I mean you can make it up. Mean,
- 36:34Speaker 6: I know that's what Eric was was saying, like, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 6: maybe they should have taken one of those guys. And
- 36:38Speaker 6: I think, and I know you two in particular really
- 36:42Speaker 6: like Josh like so like it's not even a second guest.
- 36:46Speaker 6: I agree with what Eric is talking about with with
- 36:48Speaker 6: the call. I just I don't know, I don't necessary
- 36:51Speaker 6: and I don't think he was saying this. I wouldn't
- 36:52Speaker 6: necessarily say, well, I'm disappointed in what they got.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I do.
- 36:57Speaker 6: I guess I've been sort of the least enthusias asked
- 37:00Speaker 6: about Douglas, you know, on the show, for a lot
- 37:04Speaker 6: of the reasons that you just said, Mike. But I
- 37:08Speaker 6: mean he's been I think he's been really consistent for
- 37:11Speaker 6: them when he's played. I worry about what else is there?
- 37:15Speaker 6: You know, what else can he do other than catch
- 37:17Speaker 6: the quick screens and make a guy miss? Yeah?
- 37:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I think with like Tank Dell, Tank Dal is
- 37:22Speaker 7: a really good player, but the guy throwing him the
- 37:25Speaker 7: ball is.
- 37:26Speaker 6: Yeah, oh, he kind of I thought Eric kind of
- 37:28Speaker 6: glossed over because I know that the situations are better kind, you.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, Mark Jackson, you can't.
- 37:34Speaker 6: You can't get any worse of a situation. He's in
- 37:36Speaker 6: the worst offense in football, the second worst statistically behind
- 37:39Speaker 6: the Giants.
- 37:40Speaker 7: Yeah, but I actually am maybe a little bit less
- 37:43Speaker 7: concerned about durability with him and more concerned with the
- 37:46Speaker 7: fact that he's made a lot of mistakes. Running routes
- 37:50Speaker 7: a lot of mistakes, and at some point you become
- 37:52Speaker 7: a repeat offender. And I've pointed the finger at Troy
- 37:56Speaker 7: Brown for all of it, because he's a young player.
- 37:58Speaker 7: He's a rookie, Like, somebody's got to cut right, you know,
- 38:01Speaker 7: someone's got to coach him up on these things.
- 38:02Speaker 6: I would also say he had an issue with ball
- 38:05Speaker 6: security in college and he's put the ball on the
- 38:07Speaker 6: ground a lot.
- 38:08Speaker 7: Yeah, as a problem, well, but on punts especially.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Could part of it though be You know, we talked
- 38:13Speaker 2: about how sophisticated the Patriots offense may or may not
- 38:17Speaker 2: be yesterday, and some of that I know when Brady
- 38:20Speaker 2: was here, a lot of it was on the receiver
- 38:22Speaker 2: to make a decision based on what the coverage was.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Are they forcing me inside outside? And you know they
- 38:28Speaker 2: could make that decision, and Brady was smart enough to
- 38:32Speaker 2: be on the same.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Page with guys.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Could it be you know that that part of the
- 38:37Speaker 2: offense is still intact and Pop Douglas just doesn't make
- 38:41Speaker 2: good decisions.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Yeah, rather than running the wrong route.
- 38:44Speaker 2: No.
- 38:45Speaker 7: Yeah, that's That's kind of where I'm at with it,
- 38:47Speaker 7: and I to me, it's less about blaming Pop Douglas
- 38:51Speaker 7: for making these mistakes and more about, hey, coaches, this
- 38:55Speaker 7: is your most dynamic receiver. Figure out a way to
- 38:57Speaker 7: get them open, Like you know, like figure out a
- 38:59Speaker 7: way that he can run routes the right way so
- 39:02Speaker 7: and get open because clearly he has separation talent, Like
- 39:05Speaker 7: that's not the issue is running, you know, in terms
- 39:08Speaker 7: of burst and all that kind of stuff. So I
- 39:11Speaker 7: put it on Troy Brown and Bill O'Brien to say,
- 39:13Speaker 7: all right, well, maybe the juke routes that Edelman and
- 39:17Speaker 7: Welker and those guys used to run, maybe that's not
- 39:19Speaker 7: your bread and butter. But what what can we do
- 39:22Speaker 7: on a locked route where there isn't as much optionality
- 39:24Speaker 7: to it to get to allow you to just do
- 39:27Speaker 7: your thing. Because clearly he's their best player right now.
- 39:29Speaker 7: And I feel like a lot of these conversions that
- 39:32Speaker 7: we see down the field. He had one on on
- 39:34Speaker 7: Sunday where you know, he opened inside and Mac expected
- 39:36Speaker 7: him to open outside and the ball sailed out of bounds,
- 39:40Speaker 7: and it's like those are the types of plays that
- 39:42Speaker 7: all right, maybe he's not ready for those types of routes.
- 39:44Speaker 7: So let's find routes that he is ready to run,
- 39:46Speaker 7: because clearly he can get open.
- 39:48Speaker 1: But I like that they're running them and that they're
- 39:49Speaker 1: using him, And I mean, I also wonder what he's
- 39:51Speaker 1: would look like if they had some other pieces that
- 39:54Speaker 1: you know, would just knock him down a little bit,
- 39:56Speaker 1: and there's other speed for them to deal with, and
- 39:58Speaker 1: all of a sudden he gets lost in the mix.
- 40:00Speaker 6: I think ideally he's one of those guys that's sort
- 40:02Speaker 6: of oh yeah, and they have him too, you know,
- 40:05Speaker 6: the way like Isaiah McKenzie came in here for Buffalo
- 40:08Speaker 6: a couple of years ago and caught a bunch of passes.
- 40:10Speaker 6: I don't think it's a good you know, a good
- 40:12Speaker 6: thing that he's basically your leading receiver.
- 40:15Speaker 8: No, you know, but but if he had, you know.
- 40:18Speaker 6: If you had really good receivers and then he's coming
- 40:20Speaker 6: in every once in a while and making a catch
- 40:22Speaker 6: or to and making a guy miss, then that there's
- 40:25Speaker 6: there's a lot of value that did you guys happen
- 40:26Speaker 6: to see? By the way, the Tank Dell thing with C. J. Stroud,
- 40:31Speaker 6: Evidently when they drafted Stroud, uh, you know, he came
- 40:35Speaker 6: into the facility and then he told him draft Tank Dell.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Really so what no.
- 40:42Speaker 6: What struck me was the guy was was a Texan
- 40:46Speaker 6: for less than twenty four hours, and they took his advice.
- 40:49Speaker 6: Tom Brady couldn't get his advice taken on anything for
- 40:52Speaker 6: twenty plus years.
- 40:53Speaker 7: What struck me more was that c J. Strouden knew
- 40:56Speaker 7: who Tank Dell was, Like tank Dell is went to Houston,
- 40:59Speaker 7: played a small Yeah, Like I was shocked at c J.
- 41:03Speaker 7: Stroud even knew who Tank Dell was. Like the big
- 41:07Speaker 7: game for you know, the big week for Tank Dell
- 41:09Speaker 7: was down at the Senior Bowl. Se tank Dell was
- 41:11Speaker 7: uncoverable in the Senior Bowl and that really put him
- 41:14Speaker 7: on the next sort of tier of receivers in the
- 41:18Speaker 7: draft last year. But he I have no idea how
- 41:21Speaker 7: c J. Stroud he would even know that, like that,
- 41:24Speaker 7: that guy is a dude.
- 41:25Speaker 6: Like yeah, I mean, yeah, they might have been near
- 41:29Speaker 6: each other with those kids. They all know each other now,
- 41:31Speaker 6: like they go to all these camps and yeah, maybe.
- 41:34Speaker 7: They trained with the same guy for the tomboy.
- 41:37Speaker 1: I want to go.
- 41:38Speaker 2: I want to go back to the Pop Douglas conversation
- 41:41Speaker 2: we were just having. And you know what, it'd be
- 41:43Speaker 2: an interesting exercise for you take a guy like Pop Douglas,
- 41:47Speaker 2: a young guy, put him in a room, and then
- 41:50Speaker 2: take Matt Jones and put him in another room. Don't
- 41:53Speaker 2: you know, they can't talk, they can't see each other,
- 41:55Speaker 2: they can't hear each other. You show the same play
- 41:58Speaker 2: to each guy, So Pop Douglas arts and this route
- 42:00Speaker 2: at the top of his route. You stop the film
- 42:03Speaker 2: and you say, Okay, what are you seeing?
- 42:05Speaker 1: What are you going to do?
- 42:07Speaker 2: And you do the same thing with Mac, same play,
- 42:09Speaker 2: stop it at the same place, Mac, what are you seeing?
- 42:12Speaker 2: What should what do you think Pop's gonna do?
- 42:13Speaker 10: It?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Kind of like bit like the Newly See how they
- 42:17Speaker 1: line up, you know, And you do that again and again,
- 42:20Speaker 1: and then you do the same thing with Edelman and
- 42:22Speaker 1: Brady and you see that you see the difference.
- 42:24Speaker 7: I think a big, a big difference too is I
- 42:27Speaker 7: remember asking Brady this towards the end of when Edelman
- 42:30Speaker 7: came back from the suspension, and I asked him, like,
- 42:32Speaker 7: what what about Edelman is make you love throwing to him?
- 42:36Speaker 7: Like why do you love throwing him so much? And
- 42:37Speaker 7: he said that he knows his body language, like he
- 42:40Speaker 7: knew like when Edelman was going to come out of
- 42:43Speaker 7: the break and like when he was gathering to make
- 42:46Speaker 7: a cut, and how his sort of body mechanics worked.
- 42:49Speaker 7: Because they just threw to each other so many dimes
- 42:52Speaker 7: in the off season, the regulars, whatever, and so he
- 42:55Speaker 7: said that he just had this like ability to read
- 42:58Speaker 7: Edelman's body mechanics and then anticipate where he was gonna
- 43:02Speaker 7: go based off of the way his footwork or whatever
- 43:05Speaker 7: is moving and those things on these types of routes
- 43:08Speaker 7: that Pop Douglas is running in this offense or that
- 43:11Speaker 7: doesn't just come overnight like that came from hours and
- 43:14Speaker 7: hours and hours of repetition between those two guys.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Yeaven. Then it took to Edelman until twenty thirteen to
- 43:19Speaker 1: really be that guy, you know.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeh, all right, as you can see, someone's food is here.
- 43:25Speaker 8: Uh, we'll test pizza.

- 44:16Speaker 3: What's going on, everybody, Let's take a listen to what
- 44:18Speaker 3: Bill Belichick had to say at his press conference this
- 44:21Speaker 3: morning with the media.
- 44:24Speaker 9: All right, top of the morning, how's it going good?
- 44:29Speaker 9: Good here? Yeah? All right, so I got rid up
- 44:33Speaker 9: to go on San Diego.
- 44:34Speaker 16: Well, sorry, Chargers probably make that mistake a few times
- 44:38Speaker 16: this week. Uh, but yeah, you know it's a pretty
- 44:42Speaker 16: uh you know, pretty talented football team. Have been a
- 44:44Speaker 16: lot of close games, you know, really competitive with everybody,
- 44:50Speaker 16: you know, they have quite a few explosive players that
- 44:54Speaker 16: we got to deal with here. You know, in the
- 44:56Speaker 16: kicking game, you know, Davis has you know, done a
- 44:59Speaker 16: real good job for him.
- 45:00Speaker 14: Uh.
- 45:00Speaker 16: In a return game, he's been very explosive and I
- 45:07Speaker 16: had the bigger turn against the Jets. But you know
- 45:09Speaker 16: they use him on offense too. He's a he's a
- 45:11Speaker 16: hard guy to handle. And Dickers you know, obviously kicked
- 45:16Speaker 16: very very well, so strong on special teams. You know, offensively, Herbert,
- 45:25Speaker 16: you know, can do everything you need a quarterback to do,
- 45:27Speaker 16: very athletic, make all the throws. Alan as good as
- 45:31Speaker 16: he's been, which has been great. It's because he's having
- 45:35Speaker 16: the best year, which is pretty scary. You know, he's
- 45:39Speaker 16: a very difficult player to to cover, very strong, great hands, instincts,
- 45:46Speaker 16: hard guy to tackle. Obviously, Herbert's got a lot of
- 45:49Speaker 16: confidence in a Meckler, you know, another explosive player.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Uh.
- 45:53Speaker 16: And we've got a good, you know, a group of
- 45:54Speaker 16: skilled guys with Ever and Johnson.
- 45:59Speaker 9: So forth, so.
- 46:01Speaker 16: Well balanced offense that you know has been productive. And
- 46:05Speaker 16: then you know, defensively, they got several guys up front,
- 46:08Speaker 16: even with Bose out with Mac and uh Touley, and
- 46:13Speaker 16: you know, guys like that that are really disruptive, can
- 46:16Speaker 16: make game changing plays with strift sacks, and they hit
- 46:19Speaker 16: the quarterback a lot in passing situations, third and fourth
- 46:22Speaker 16: down particular two minutes. You know, they when they when
- 46:26Speaker 16: they need to rush, they can, you know they can rush.
- 46:28Speaker 16: So James obviously, you know one of the top players
- 46:32Speaker 16: in the league. You know Ian Mack or two guys
- 46:36Speaker 16: that can really you know, ruin the game, have ruined
- 46:38Speaker 16: plenty of games and so got to do a good job,
- 46:43Speaker 16: good job on them. You know, the new offense or
- 46:46Speaker 16: a little bit of a new offense, I guess, you
- 46:48Speaker 16: know with coach Moore, you know, Herbert's had a lot
- 46:52Speaker 16: of production with it. Spread the ball around a lot
- 46:55Speaker 16: besides Alan, but you know Allen obviously is the go
- 46:58Speaker 16: to guy. But after that, you know, get a lot
- 47:00Speaker 16: of touches to to the other receivers, tight ends the backs,
- 47:04Speaker 16: uh and and they create some explosive plays. And you know,
- 47:07Speaker 16: Herbert creates some plays on his own win or really
- 47:09Speaker 16: isn't anything there.
- 47:11Speaker 9: You know, he pulls something out with a scramble or
- 47:13Speaker 9: an extended play or.
- 47:17Speaker 16: You know, throwing to into tight coverage that that you know,
- 47:20Speaker 16: there an't too many guys can.
- 47:21Speaker 9: Get in there, but you know he can. So good
- 47:25Speaker 9: opportunity for us this week.
- 47:26Speaker 16: And you know the team we kind of know a
- 47:27Speaker 16: little bit about, but you know, need to refamiliarize ourselves
- 47:31Speaker 16: with here in the next few days.
- 47:35Speaker 10: With Chad ratherin end the stickers and he's on the rosa, tend.
- 47:41Speaker 13: To me bring in another ticker.
- 47:43Speaker 16: Just we work some guys out. We usually do that
- 47:46Speaker 16: anyway this time of year. So look, the guys that
- 47:50Speaker 16: are here need to be ready to go. That's that's
- 47:53Speaker 16: what everybody's job is.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Thought. Maybe adding a kicker there just at the second one.
- 47:59Speaker 9: We're gonna fill those spots up. Today.
- 48:04Speaker 10: Bill had he envision the quarterback depth chart shake out
- 48:06Speaker 10: this week.
- 48:07Speaker 16: Yeah, I'm not gonna make any announcements on our lineup
- 48:09Speaker 16: at any position then, So it doesn't matter what the
- 48:12Speaker 16: position is. We're not See how practice goes and see
- 48:16Speaker 16: if everybody's ready to go. Hope everybody's ready to go,
- 48:18Speaker 16: see what the injury situation is, and we'll go through
- 48:21Speaker 16: we thinks best on Sunday.
- 48:22Speaker 10: So even with the way things went last week against
- 48:25Speaker 10: the Giants, do the same thing again this week.
- 48:29Speaker 9: Yeah, I didn't say that. I said I'm not going
- 48:31Speaker 9: to announce anything.
- 48:32Speaker 10: What about the team?
- 48:35Speaker 16: Yeah, well, I think again everybody's everybody's got their own
- 48:38Speaker 16: their own job to do, and hopefully that's what.
- 48:40Speaker 9: They're focused on, not what everybody else is doing. That's
- 48:43Speaker 9: the way.
- 48:43Speaker 16: All I need to do is focus on what our
- 48:46Speaker 16: job is, do the best we can add it, and
- 48:48Speaker 16: don't worry about what everybody.
- 48:49Speaker 9: Else is doing. That would that would help all of us.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Don't care like.
- 48:55Speaker 16: The mac Jones after, especially as Dallas and Orleans is
- 49:00Speaker 16: the Raiders week, he said, yeah, we're not making any changes.
- 49:03Speaker 8: What makes you take a different.
- 49:04Speaker 10: Approach the last couple of weeks and being asked about
- 49:06Speaker 10: and start awards back?
- 49:09Speaker 2: Uh?
- 49:09Speaker 16: Yeah, because that's we'll see how it goes. I'm not
- 49:13Speaker 16: prepared to make any announcement, so I'm not gonna do that.
- 49:18Speaker 7: How do you feel, like mac Jones?
- 49:23Speaker 9: Well, we don't.
- 49:24Speaker 16: We haven't won enough games, so I don't think anybody's
- 49:26Speaker 16: performed well enough.
- 49:27Speaker 9: We all need to do a better job.
- 49:31Speaker 6: Do you personally have a plan for quarterback this Sunday
- 49:33Speaker 6: or we'll practice determine that this week.
- 49:36Speaker 9: We'll see how it goes.
- 49:39Speaker 17: Bailey's actually have to show you to earn a start.
- 49:45Speaker 16: Look, every player, whatever opportunities they have, need to do
- 49:49Speaker 16: the best with them that they can practice games, even
- 49:53Speaker 16: in meetings and other preparation opportunities. So that's what a
- 49:57Speaker 16: player can do, be prepared to the best he can,
- 49:59Speaker 16: and that's what each guy will have an opportunity to
- 50:02Speaker 16: do that somewhere along the line. You know, with the
- 50:04Speaker 16: course of a long season, a lot of times it's
- 50:07Speaker 16: multiple times in a day. Sometimes for some players the
- 50:10Speaker 16: opportunities are a little bit different. But when those opportunities come,
- 50:13Speaker 16: that's what players need to do, and that's what they've
- 50:16Speaker 16: been told and they know understand that, and I think
- 50:18Speaker 16: they're doing the best they can.
- 50:19Speaker 9: So see, it goes.
- 50:21Speaker 17: It's something you're seeing mechanically. Is it something emotionally that
- 50:24Speaker 17: can be fixed? What's the best way to handle them?
- 50:29Speaker 16: Again, I think you know, we've talked to all the
- 50:30Speaker 16: players about things they need to do. You know, we've
- 50:33Speaker 16: been doing that all year. It took more time to
- 50:34Speaker 16: do that in a bye week. You know, each players
- 50:37Speaker 16: certain things that you know, we feel like they can
- 50:38Speaker 16: focus on to improve and they're working on those.
- 50:41Speaker 17: But a player like Mac is he seeking help to
- 50:43Speaker 17: sort of get better in any specific way.
- 50:46Speaker 16: Every player is trying to improve. Absolutely every player on
- 50:48Speaker 16: our team's trying to improve. I don't I won't see
- 50:52Speaker 16: that from anybody. They're they're all trying to improve. What
- 50:54Speaker 16: can I do better? Work on it?
- 50:56Speaker 9: Whether it's practice.
- 50:57Speaker 16: Meetings, fundamentalsmmunication like whatever it is, and so we'll keep
- 51:03Speaker 16: doing that.
- 51:05Speaker 10: What does it mean to have army maybe in the
- 51:07Speaker 10: building as the fact that they're playing up here this year?
- 51:12Speaker 16: I mean, look, obviously it's a huge game. I'm heavily
- 51:15Speaker 16: invested in the Naval Academy. But let's deal with that
- 51:17Speaker 16: next week. Hock to start, well, we didn't have total
- 51:24Speaker 16: control of that. He could have been claimed by another team.
- 51:28Speaker 16: What was it the so once he wasn't claimed by
- 51:31Speaker 16: another team, then we reopened the discussions.
- 51:34Speaker 9: But we didn't control that.
- 51:37Speaker 16: Could you envision him getting a few more snaps with
- 51:41Speaker 16: the regular All the players that are on the practice
- 51:44Speaker 16: squad or unless they've used all their practice squad elevations
- 51:49Speaker 16: are eligible to be practice squad elevated. Other players could
- 51:53Speaker 16: be signed to the roster. I could do with Connor
- 51:56Speaker 16: last week, it was out of elevations. So if they're
- 51:58Speaker 16: on the practice squad, they're eligible and are preparing and
- 52:03Speaker 16: are should be ready to play and potentially are ready
- 52:05Speaker 16: to play.
- 52:07Speaker 9: Does that includes everybody?
- 52:10Speaker 10: The league said last week we're coming out that he
- 52:13Speaker 10: hasn't taken regular quarterback reps two six.
- 52:17Speaker 6: Changed it back to wide receiver just enough.
- 52:20Speaker 9: To do move him back anywhere.
- 52:22Speaker 16: He's been playing wide receiver all year, and he's played
- 52:24Speaker 16: he's also played in a quarterback.
- 52:26Speaker 10: Well, why did you haven't saw practicing a quarterback?
- 52:32Speaker 16: Well, there are other players that are practicing a quarterback
- 52:34Speaker 16: as well. Okay, he's not the only guy out there.
- 52:37Speaker 16: And then it depends a little bit on the offense
- 52:38Speaker 16: that we're seeing. So if we're seeing offenses that run
- 52:41Speaker 16: plays that he's very good at running teams like Philadelphia
- 52:45Speaker 16: the first Miami game, it's you know, then he gets
- 52:49Speaker 16: I mean, they're practice squad reps, but there are also
- 52:51Speaker 16: reps on things that he does. So he's kind of
- 52:54Speaker 16: a unique player that things aren't straight lined with him.
- 52:57Speaker 16: He's different than probably every other player we have on
- 52:59Speaker 16: the team, So he's handled a little bit differently.
- 53:04Speaker 10: Phil We've seen you bench and Demoe players for performance
- 53:08Speaker 10: all the time, fumble, not getting your feet and bounds,
- 53:11Speaker 10: what have you? Mat Jonson, Now we've benched four times
- 53:13Speaker 10: for performance, but he keeps getting the opportunity and keeps
- 53:16Speaker 10: getting a starting job at what makes him different from
- 53:19Speaker 10: everyone else.
- 53:19Speaker 9: On the team.
- 53:21Speaker 16: Yeah, well, look, every situation is different, So I mean,
- 53:23Speaker 16: I don't really know exactly what you're referring to, but
- 53:26Speaker 16: it doesn't really matter, Like we're gonna do what we
- 53:28Speaker 16: feel the best for the team based on the individual situation.
- 53:32Speaker 17: Bill players make mistakes, obviously, but when a kicker makes
- 53:36Speaker 17: a mistake, I mean obviously chadwils said, you know, everything
- 53:39Speaker 17: was good with his kick, he just missed it.
- 53:41Speaker 1: He handled kickers a.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Little bit differently in terms of keeping the confidence up
- 53:45Speaker 2: and getting to the position where they're confident with every kick.
- 53:48Speaker 6: Think go up here, you know to.
- 53:49Speaker 16: Make Yeah, I look, confidence is something that comes internally
- 53:54Speaker 16: and it comes when you have success. So you can
- 53:58Speaker 16: talk about it all you want, and there's maybe some
- 54:01Speaker 16: merit to that, but in the end, you get confidence
- 54:04Speaker 16: when you do something successfully and then you're confident that
- 54:07Speaker 16: you can repeat that success. So well, that's in games,
- 54:11Speaker 16: is in practice. There are ways to try to you know,
- 54:14Speaker 16: construct that. But I mean, in the end, the execution
- 54:17Speaker 16: is the only way you have any genuine confidence and
- 54:20Speaker 16: give a fake confidence. But genuine confidence comes from real
- 54:23Speaker 16: performance under pressure. That's true of every position.
- 54:27Speaker 18: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 54:32Speaker 18: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 54:36Speaker 18: everybody could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 54:40Speaker 18: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 54:44Speaker 6: And now great moments in.
- 54:49Speaker 1: History.
- 54:49Speaker 2: If you stand up on the third level of State,
- 54:51Speaker 2: look at on the parking lot now and remember what
- 54:53Speaker 2: that parking lot to look at it was like a
- 54:58Speaker 2: big flea market park.
- 55:00Speaker 8: To bring morell into to make sure we were all safe.
- 55:02Speaker 19: Yeah, and bring on the marine like just how like
- 55:05Speaker 19: the cement structures of like walking out into the lower
- 55:08Speaker 19: level where like you'd kind of come down the ramp
- 55:11Speaker 19: but you'd still be in like this like turret almost
- 55:13Speaker 19: like you know, and then you'd come up and oh,
- 55:15Speaker 19: here's the stadium.
- 55:16Speaker 8: There's a field like right here, you.
- 55:18Speaker 19: Know, but I remember it raining there and it would
- 55:20Speaker 19: just be like a river coming through.
- 55:22Speaker 8: Those things, like you know, you couldn't even get to it.
- 55:26Speaker 6: Would come out of the pipe on the side right down.
- 55:28Speaker 2: The stairs and even inside you know, they had that
- 55:32Speaker 2: one building in the end zone that was the build off.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Everything was there in the locker.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Room and everything, and the backstairs led down to the
- 55:41Speaker 2: locker room and the super The brmell of urine would
- 55:45Speaker 2: just waved up into the way.
- 55:48Speaker 8: It would wave.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Waft waft loft. It was just awful.
- 55:54Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 55:58Speaker 1: All right.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Bridge Stone the official tire of the New England Patriots
- 56:02Speaker 2: and proud partner with Sullivan Tire, New England's headquarters for
- 56:04Speaker 2: quality Bridgetone tires. Visit Sullivantire dot com to find a
- 56:09Speaker 2: location near you.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I love that stadium. That's a good story whenever it
- 56:14Speaker 1: comes up. I just I have such fond memories of
- 56:17Speaker 1: that terrible place.
- 56:18Speaker 2: I mean, there's so many like rooms that would double
- 56:22Speaker 2: as different things, Like they had the VI Club VIP
- 56:25Speaker 2: Club that on game day was sort of like the club.
- 56:28Speaker 8: It was like a suite.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Then during the week it's where the players ate their lunch.
- 56:33Speaker 2: You know, we would work in there like when no
- 56:35Speaker 2: one else was there, and when people came in, we'd
- 56:38Speaker 2: pack up and go into a coat room, and I'm
- 56:40Speaker 2: not kidding literal coat room. It was just you know,
- 56:44Speaker 2: it was it was fifth rate, It wasn't even third rate.
- 56:48Speaker 1: What was it like for you when you first started
- 56:50Speaker 1: working there, and that you're.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Like guys that were used at When I first started
- 56:54Speaker 2: working here in ninety five, I worked in Boston. The
- 56:57Speaker 2: crafts had one floor of one Boston place, and so
- 57:00Speaker 2: I worked there for a few years.
- 57:03Speaker 6: Then you know, they just and he had that stuff
- 57:06Speaker 6: that he's talking about in that stadium.
- 57:07Speaker 2: But some of the people that worked for me worked here,
- 57:11Speaker 2: you know, because they had to be around the team
- 57:12Speaker 2: every day, and they they had all the equipment in.
- 57:15Speaker 1: A code closet.
- 57:17Speaker 2: And then one time there was an event and we
- 57:19Speaker 2: actually were taking coats for people while we were working
- 57:22Speaker 2: and giving them their ticket.
- 57:23Speaker 1: That was before me, and it was the newspaper your
- 57:26Speaker 1: primarily like well focused.
- 57:28Speaker 2: It was started, but I started in January ninety five,
- 57:32Speaker 2: But in March of ninety five we started the website
- 57:35Speaker 2: and that changed everything. We were the first pro team
- 57:38Speaker 2: with a website. And you know, obviously it's content, whether
- 57:43Speaker 2: it's newspapers. So I ended up doing.
- 57:46Speaker 8: Both, Mike, if you can believe it, when but.
- 57:49Speaker 2: The paper was dominant. You know, his website was you
- 57:53Speaker 2: know Nason.
- 57:54Speaker 6: That at that time the paper was far and away
- 57:58Speaker 6: the biggest priority. But just to show you like the
- 58:01Speaker 6: difference is when when the website started, when I started
- 58:04Speaker 6: in ninety nine, Fred used to say, Okay, we need
- 58:08Speaker 6: to make sure that we have an update on the website,
- 58:11Speaker 6: one update every day. Something Fred like Fred would say, like,
- 58:16Speaker 6: you know, give him a reason to come around the stadium.
- 58:18Speaker 6: You know, like there's like they painted the weight room something.
- 58:20Speaker 6: It could be something silly, you know, but we want
- 58:23Speaker 6: to update the way. Can you imagine going a day
- 58:25Speaker 6: without like fifteen things going on the website.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like just put something on there to
- 58:32Speaker 2: you know, reward somebody for coming today, you know, something
- 58:36Speaker 2: different that than yesterday. And you know, we had one
- 58:40Speaker 2: person out Originally the person who's doing the update was
- 58:44Speaker 2: someone from PR and you know I finally said to him,
- 58:48Speaker 2: I said, listen, you're either going to go stand with
- 58:51Speaker 2: a clipboard for PR. Are you going to do this website?
- 58:54Speaker 2: You got to choose, and the person chose Anthony mulready.
- 58:57Speaker 2: He chose PR, and then we hired somebody to do
- 59:01Speaker 2: the updates for the website.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds such like a side project now, like
- 59:05Speaker 1: you know, we have to do the website, you know,
- 59:06Speaker 1: just get that done too. But well I was, I
- 59:08Speaker 1: was a subscriber for season or two to to PF PFW.
- 59:12Speaker 1: Well everybody was at one point, you know. I just
- 59:15Speaker 1: wish I saved them.
- 59:16Speaker 8: Yeah, it was.
- 59:18Speaker 6: And then when I when I started, it was down
- 59:21Speaker 6: in the old the Foxborough Entertainment Complex was the old racetrack. Yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 6: the FEC that it'd be called the FACT and the
- 59:29Speaker 6: revs were down there, our offices around. That's where I
- 59:32Speaker 6: met with Freddy when fred interviewed me, and we had
- 59:36Speaker 6: like a whole little area. It was a little kitchen
- 59:38Speaker 6: and stuff and it was fine. It was good. And
- 59:40Speaker 6: then there was like a lot a lot of space
- 59:42Speaker 6: that was just empty. You know, they had a lot
- 59:45Speaker 6: of storage and stuff. So we we'd have some great
- 59:47Speaker 6: like great football games.
- 59:49Speaker 1: Already building here when you started.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they had broken ground.
- 59:53Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't think they had when I first.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I just I remember sitting in the old stadium and
- 59:59Speaker 1: looking out at the you know, the old remnants of
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: the racetrack and being like, what the hell was that. Yeah, no,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: that was trace Track.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: We worked there and then when they finally demolished that
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: because they needed to start, we moved down the street.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: There was a little office park down.
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: Route one that was a good place to work too.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it was great because we were by ourselves,
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: you know, no one was overseeing us. So the pro shop,
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: you know, we had just started e commerce too back then,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: and they had their little operation back there and making
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: hot dogs on a George Foreman.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: And oh we did Red Sox opening day one year.
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: We had like a little tailgate inside.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: We would play with football inside the buildings.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Stories about basketball was big.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Michelle Muse would be laying out the paper and the
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: ball would like land on her keyboard and she would be.
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: She wouldn't even she wouldn't even break stride to just
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: take the ball and throw it over her head.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: A bunch of guys.
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: Yeah, but we're always did I wrong.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: There was a lot of downtime while we waited for
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: photos to come back from the lab and all that.
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: So while that was happening, we'd you know, be trying
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: to stay awake.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: And we mentioned that Silverman used to take the photo
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: like take his negatives and whatever. Take the film and
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: go like this, Well they come back with print.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Well, he'd come back with prints, and then the Prince
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: would go to Worcester to ran Whitney because they had
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: a drum scanner and they would scan them all in
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: and then we would use them. But it was like
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: an eight hour process after the game.
- 1:01:28Speaker 6: Right, and then finally when we got into like the
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: digital age, that all streamlined like significantly.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: It became a hyper production.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: And then you know, it's funny because once that happened,
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: it was great for production and everything. But then that
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: was kind of the the early death noll for newspapers
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: for princes because you didn't need it anymore. Yeah, well
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: that's where we started putting everything on the webs.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: This is weird that you guys were, you know here
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: before it all kind of went crazy in terms of
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: good and you know, but we also coincided with the
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: rise of the internet, the rise of social media. I mean,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like just how different covering sports is just ins And.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: It was also different because there were hard deadlines. You know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: we had a slot at the printer to print the
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: newspaper am on Monday morning, no matter what matter, if
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: it was a night game. You know, it had to
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: be there at ten am. And I remember one game,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: our other editor, Brian Morey was out for some reason
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: or something. Paul had to do like everything himself.
- 1:02:28Speaker 8: I don't think he was out.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: He was writing a book, and uh, you know, I
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: was as as the night progressed, like a different article
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: of clothing would come off by the end of the night,
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: is under shirt. I swear to god, he's sweating.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Just trying to get everything done.
- 1:02:45Speaker 8: It was like Brian exaggerates a lot of things about me.
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: He is not exaggerating.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you must have never let him forget that one
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: he was working on a book I think that week.
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: Yeah, and then and then to top it all off,
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: like and this was a pretty cool thing. Like I'd
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: make fun of them all the time, but like that
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: the first Patriots book Patriots United, because we all know
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: I wrote the second one in about twenty minutes and
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: I didn't miss any time.
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: I'm done on the paper.
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: But when when Brian did that, like we had like
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: a launch party at the pro shop and like we
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: did it up big with like you know, pr and stuff,
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: and like you know, at the time, the last thing
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: I wanted to hear about was anything related to this
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: for cocked a book, right, So Brian's like, i'd really
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: you know, i'd really like it if you, if you,
- 1:03:32Speaker 6: if you came, you know, like I want to. I
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: was like, so I came and I'm taking pictures and stuff,
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: and I was like, I had nothing to write it
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: and I just made and it was It wasn't just
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: like an issue. It was like the Draft Preview, which
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: is one of our tent pole issues. You know, we
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: had thirty issues every year. Draft Preview and Draft Review
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: were as big as any of them, and that was
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: one of the ones that he missed. Yeah, and I
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: was like, yeah, yeah, I'll go to your little party
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: with Dures you know, well the appealing grapes for you
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: like the books. But Fred is so right, Like I
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: was just like, you know, sweatshirt comes off because the
- 1:04:09Speaker 6: hat like tilted to the side. I'm sweating and just
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: writing draft like we're not going to be ready, Fred,
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: We're not going.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: To be read.
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: Don't worry about it.
- 1:04:18Speaker 8: It's probably like we're not going to be done.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: You're probably writing about Deon Branch and like pulling all
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: that from that, right.
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: I know. I was frazzles, and I like to to
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: like I'm pretty emotional and opinionated, but I like to
- 1:04:29Speaker 6: think I'm pretty cool under pressure.
- 1:04:31Speaker 8: But I was not cool under pressure that week.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: But what's what's.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: The going back to that Walpole Park place? What was
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: the biggest thing you remember that happened there?
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: The biggest thing?
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I have mine, and.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I wonder if yours is the same as some stories
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: like the event that happened there that you're like, oh,
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: that that's what you always remember.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: Huh, I don't know.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Nine to eleven.
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: Oh, oh okay.
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: I was thinking, no, I was taking off his h
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: but absolutely, Fred Fred, Yeah, you went serious on me.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: Like I was thinking when Rick did put that in
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: Sync sign on the back of my car.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: That was good. That was a good story.
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: So in Sync is playing at the Old Stadium and like,
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: my wife is going, she's taking my nieces and stuff.
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: The webmaster, who uh Rick Rick Eames. He took this
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: piece of cardboard and he somehow like bought this wire
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: and it's like honk if you love in Sync, But
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: he kept it.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: He rigged it up in such a way that Paul
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: wouldn't see it when he got in his car. But
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: once he started driving.
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: It down, so driving.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Everyone and I'm meeting bet at like Papa Gino's and
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: and like everybody's beeping and.
- 1:05:45Speaker 8: I'm like what. I'm like, I'm driving like ten.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Miles a man, exactly. You got that right.
- 1:05:52Speaker 8: I looked at it.
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: I was like, oh, that's that's just too perfect. Everybody,
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: every single person in the building knew about it, and
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: they all were what And they couldn't wait for me
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: to get back because I was going down to meet
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: Bath and my nieces and I was coming back and
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: they were like, I back, go and I get out
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: of it.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: And I was like, son of a gotcha that's funny.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: Or or Shane playing Nerve Hoop and used to get
- 1:06:14Speaker 6: mad at us because you always were afraid that we're
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: gonna hurt Shane.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he had serebal Pauls. You know, it would get physical, and.
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: I was like, you know, you gotta be I'm just
- 1:06:24Speaker 8: I'm just worried about ship.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: That was heady times, heady times times back before the dynasty.
- 1:06:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess. And also like people like when I uh,
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: you get asked a lot of questions like what made
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: you stay like this is like what made you stay there.
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: This, Yeah, this is what made.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: You stay Remember when Brian Moorean Dave Crissoli had to
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: sprint the race. Oh yeah, we did it on this
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: is before this before side felt, right, like we had
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: the race before side felt.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: So they used to have like, uh, we used to
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: have this little basketball competition and uh Cauzoli was the
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: the commissioner and Brian used to not play by the
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: rules and he used to just do his own thing.
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: So he broke off and he created his own, his
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: own league off his studs. So he did it on
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: his own and they got there. They were getting really
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: competitive and it was mostly tongue in cheek, but it
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: was just a hint of seriousness. Yeah, and they were
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: betting over who could win in a forty yard dash.
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: So we got this all together and we get you know,
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: Dave had his old camera with the what the XL.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: One, Yeah, yeah, so I had.
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: So I think Bob took the camera and I and
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: I had the mic. I was doing play by the
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: player and racing on the parking lot and I'm just
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: waiting for someone to like pull a hammy or you know,
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: take a header in this like Sandy Parking lot and
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: Morey won one.
- 1:07:48Speaker 8: I think Brian won.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Yeah, just not by mud. They were both you know
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: at you.
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: Know, Dave was a good football player, but he was
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: more of alignment.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it was funny. Oh my god, crazy? All right?
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Five to five past five hundred is a.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: Web radio.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: We've been here a long time. Uh, let's go to
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Andrew and Chelsea. What's up Andrew?
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Hey, how are you guys doing good?
- 1:08:16Speaker 14: So I've got kind of a.
- 1:08:17Speaker 13: Dream scenario here, and I would love to hear have
- 1:08:19Speaker 13: you guys tell me how realistic this is? Just practically speaking,
- 1:08:23Speaker 13: I would love to see the Patriots trade Bill Belichick
- 1:08:26Speaker 13: to a team like the Commanders for a first round pick,
- 1:08:29Speaker 13: then target Marvin Harrison with our own tick Jaden Daniels
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: with that pick, and then go after a guy like
- 1:08:34Speaker 13: Pat All in the second round. And then, just speaking
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: to the conversation you guys were having before the break,
- 1:08:40Speaker 13: as long as we've got a plan to get the
- 1:08:42Speaker 13: quarterback in place, I think the best thing we can
- 1:08:44Speaker 13: do to maximize the Mario Douglass is to add a
- 1:08:47Speaker 13: guy like Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: Sure I agree with that last part. If you had
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: really good receivers then you had like a sort of
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: a niche guy like that.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you get.
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: Like a little kiky kootique.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: If Daniel's starting to intrigue you a little bit.
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: I really liked DNS. But if he's getting up to
- 1:09:05Speaker 8: the top five, yeah no.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: But like I as a second pick, if you could do.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: It, I haven't watched man. Yeah.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: I mean the part that I think is unrealistic is
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: I do not listen. I could be proven wrong many
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: times it's happened. I don't think anyone's given you a
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: first round pick for Bill Belichick. But if it happens,
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: then that that that scenario is in play.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: I was thinking, Okay, you know, how realistic is it
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: that Bill will play along with that? If if he
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: wants to leave or the Crafts want him to leave,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: why would he go to a team that immediately has
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: to give up a first round pick. I know he's
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: been through this before where the Jets had to give
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: up you know, we had to give up a pick
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: for him and so on, and the Jets had to
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: give up a pick for Parcels. So he knows it happens,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: but why would he play along?
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Well, aren't those scenarios usually the head coach wants to go.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: I mean, that's.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: What's not a specific right right to a specific.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Place, And it's not really about the team that he's
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: with is done with him. It's that he wants to go.
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: So that's what I think.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: The only way I think, Paul, this might what this
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: could happen, is if there's only one team that wants.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: Him, but does he want them?
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's what I If he wants to coach,
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: he really wants to keep coaching, and there's only one team.
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's that's the bottom line. Yeah, all it
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: takes is one team.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: If you were Bill Belichick's agent, I mean, what would
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: you advise him? I mean, how would you best play
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: this to get him into a new situation if that's
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: what he wanted with the maximum amount of money, I.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Would say to you know again, please no one think
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: that I know anything or any of us know anything.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: We're just spitballing here, you know. But if I was
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: his agent, I would say, they'll make them fire you.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: If they don't want you, they have to fire you
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: and then pay you.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: Some might say trotting out Mac Jones week after week
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: after week is an.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Effort I heard that on your one of your shows
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: this morning. That really yeah, that that.
- 1:10:59Speaker 8: I bet I better foddle it back when I go
- 1:11:01Speaker 8: on my shoulder this afternoon.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: That Bill is trying to be fired. Yeah, he's doing.
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: I think he looks like Costanza driving around the Yank
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: he's parking lot with the trophy.
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: Hang.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: I heard that theory this morning.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: But but in all seriousness, like if I were, if
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: you're his agent, I'm not talking about Bill, but if
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: you're his agent, you're like Bill, make them fire you.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Then he can do whatever I quit don't agree to,
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: you know, stay on until a trade can be consummated.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Tell them fire me, right and because then they probably
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: own money too, right, So you are double dick. You've
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: got the money, the new money.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: And that's what I think.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: Like the Rappaport, you know, the follow up to the extension,
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: probably like a month ago now, was Robert Craft. There's
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: no intentions of firing him during the season. But to
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: clarify the extension was only through twenty four. I think
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: that's that's an announcement. All you thirty one other teams,
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: any of you interested in Bill Belichick, He's still going
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: to be under contract. To us, and if you want him,
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: it's going to cost compensation or this money whatever they
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: owe them, you know, something like that.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but does it ever happened before where a team
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: just trades their coach like kind of I don't want
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: to say out of nowhere, but you know what I mean,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: just like this, no, this is this is it? No?
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: Not like Peyton and uh, you know John Gruden went
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: from the snowball here HM to Tampa Bay the next year.
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: Like it happens, but it's always like the.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Coach wants to go, wants to go, and there's a
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: destination in mind, like you said, yeah, you know, so
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: it's it's a tricky situation.
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: And I don't know, like Peyton was able to sit
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: out a year, you know, at seventy one. I don't
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: know if Bill has the luxury of being able to
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: sit out.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Somebody asked the question that a recent press conference. I
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: forget who it was, but you know, there's rumors out
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: there that you have a destination in mind already, and
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: he said, that's ridiculous.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: That's what's come out. I feel like over the last
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: I don't know month, is that I mean leading up
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: to this, it was always does the team want him?
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: Does the team want him?
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: And now I feel like in the last couple of
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: weeks it's started to turn to, hey, does Bill want
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: to be here? Does he does he even want to
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: think that he can can rebuild this team from where
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: it is.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: But even if he doesn't want to be here, you
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: play it like you want to be here, you make
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: them fire you. Yeah, you know, I'm not going anywhere.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: My plan is to be here in twenty twenty four
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: and coaches football.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: Team and Fred I'm afraid that that's what's going to
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: end up happening. Is when we're going to get to
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: January eighth, which I think is Black Monday, I think
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: both of both sides are going to say, no, we're
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: not firing you, and Bill's going to say, well, I'm not.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: Well. I hope it doesn't. I hope that doesn't get
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: drawn out.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: You know, like like the idea of compensation for Bill
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Belichick is intriguing. You'd love to get a first round pick,
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: even a second something, but it might be unrealistic. And
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: I hope that the Crafts don't draw this out, just
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: like I hope I let go if that's what they
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: know what they do with that's what they want.
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: And I know, like you know, they could point and say, well,
- 1:14:01Speaker 6: you know, that's what happened in two thousand when they
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: got Bill, and I think it was February, right.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: But Bill gave the famous note to them that I
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: resign as any you know, head coach of then ep
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: AJ But whatever they're.
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: You know, Yeah, My point is the team that was
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: acquiring Belichick did wait a month before they knew for
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: sure that they were going to get him, and they
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: and they did it. It didn't matter for the Jets
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: because the Jets had nothing to lose. They weren't gonna
- 1:14:33Speaker 6: they didn't want Belichick back at that point, so they
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: were able to wait it out. But and it worked. Yeah,
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: I don't know if that's ideal to do something like
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: that again, is it in your best interest to wait
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: another month while you're haggling? And and I know I'm
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: not a lot to.
- 1:14:49Speaker 8: Do, right, I'm not naive.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: I know that they're talking to whoever is going to
- 1:14:53Speaker 6: be the next coach, and if it's Mayo or whoever else,
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: I'm not naive enough to think, well, Bill Belichick's the
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: head coach that's going to prevent them from wouldn't get
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: anybody else. No, we'll be talking and working the channels.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: And even when Parcels left, you know, the Patriots weren't
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: going to let him go without the Jets giving the
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: Patriots compensation, So that got drawn out a little bit.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: But in both those instances, Belichick coming here and Parcels
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: going there, you had a quarterback and Drew Bledsoe like,
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: the off season wasn't this thing where my god, we've
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: got to make a lot of moves and we can't
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: wait for someone to be there to make those moves.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: And you had the quarterback in both situations, this is
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: a different situation.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: We've got things to do. Yeah, you know, we've got
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: a lot to do.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: Where we really need to sit down with Robert Craft.
- 1:15:41Speaker 8: You get that arranged, Yeah.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: One on one. Yeah, breaking news.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: So it's it's gonna be a fascinating off season. It's
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: coming quick. But like I said, if I was Belichick's agent,
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: I'd be like, hold time.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I think that's what he's gonna do.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Fred on the jayde Daniels of it, though, Paul, like,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I just I'm you know, and I'm kind of proud
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: of how I cover the draft because I don't really
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: pay attention until the season's over, and then I jump
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: in and try to come at it with with me
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: whys But why is it that like that make you proud?
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Because I feel like it brings a new perspective, like
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: everybody like you know, and I think it's funny like
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: that you all of a sudden. But but my question
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: is why is it a month ago all we were
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: talking about was Caleb Williams and Drake May kayleb Wills,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, here comes Lsu and this
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: kid and Jane Dingels. What in the mix?
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: Like, I'll tell you, I'll tell you what I like
- 1:16:29Speaker 8: about it? Is Andrew still on the line, I think
- 1:16:31Speaker 8: so I think he's listening.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Oh okay, hi Andrew, did you have anything else or
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: you want to go?
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I don't want to sew.
- 1:16:38Speaker 8: We're working all right?
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: Thanks?
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: Thanks Andrew.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I just heard. But it's just funny, how like what
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: I like about it?
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: Though? See when this happens in February, it irritates the
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: hell out of me. Yeah, but it's happening now because
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: he's playing at a higher level and.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: He's just the year, the last month or so for the.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: Season, he's been unbelievable. So I'm not telling you that
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: he is as good as May.
- 1:17:05Speaker 8: I mean, I don't.
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: I don't. I don't look at mock drafts. To your point,
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: I'm proud of the fact that I don't really look
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: at a lot of mock drafts because I don't care
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: and all that. All mock drafts do to me is
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: they establish a level of expectation. Then when it doesn't
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: work out that way, that's when you start saying, well,
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: then they reached you know, and oh no, oh what
- 1:17:24Speaker 6: great value, and then you'd never know.
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: So I don't.
- 1:17:28Speaker 6: I don't like absorb every single mock draft every time
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: they come out the way a lot of other people do.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: But I haven't really seen much changing from Caleb Williams
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: and Drake May being one and two. But I have
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: seen Daniels now not just being like a second round option,
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: being like a top ten option. I've seen that.
- 1:17:49Speaker 8: Well, I've heard that, and.
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: Yeah, Pennix and Nicks have sort of been in that
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: first round conversation throughout. I think there's some issues with
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: both of those guys in terms of age.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I think every one of these quarterbacks have I think.
- 1:18:05Speaker 6: Caleb Williams is so ridiculously talented, and I think he's
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: an impressive guy.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: But he's like I think he's like we cried after
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: a game. No, that's not all he sounds like. I mean,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: I just saw today that it sounds like he said
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: it'll be like a last minute decision if he's going
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: to declare for the draft.
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: I mean, he's still I read something in the La
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: Times today it seems to think that's not really much
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: of a question he's going.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: But yeah, he's going, Jeff and Brooklyn says, I'm so
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: glad you started reminiscing about the old days or anything else. Really,
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: I can't imagine any Patriots fan caring about what defense
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: the Chargers might play, because it really doesn't matter. They
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: could put their offense on defense and their defense on offense,
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: and I still wouldn't bet on the Patriots when wow, wow,
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: remember the days when the Chargers would pull up on
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: a one o'clock game, saying that, well, you know, different
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: people tune in at different times.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Radio replay that twelve time oh seven AFC championship. What
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: a game?
- 1:19:02Speaker 12: Uh?
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Nick writes in I love the team to death and
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I want them to win every game. But man, was
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: it a sigh of relief seeing Chad Ryland miss that
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: kick because there really is no other way to fix
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: this to other than other other than getting a new quarterback. Also,
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: I want to know your guys' thoughts on the n
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: season tournament in the NBA and the Celtics advancing to
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: the brackets.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Oh, I've got thoughts. I don't care.
- 1:19:26Speaker 8: I thought they were courts.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: The courts are pretty crazy. I can't figure out what
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: the formula is though, because I've heard people explaining what
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: it is. Because I kind of like the idea generally
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: in sports. I think it work great in the NHL,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: like let's do an original six tournament over Christmas, you know,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: like that kind of thing. I think it's a good idea.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: But every time I try to pay attention to what's
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: going on in basketball, it's like the games are a
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: weird different days. It's not like straight to me.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: To me, doing things like that is conceding that our
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: season's too long and not interesting.
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: Right, And they can't. Yeah, that's exactly right, Fred.
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: But and what the problem with baseball, basketball, and hockey
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: is they all three recognize that the season's too long,
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: but you can't go back on it because that's what
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: the money is established on, is those forty one gates. Yeah,
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: and the eighty one gates in baseball. You know, you
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: need that revenue so that they're stuck. So I actually
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: I was. I really hated the idea of the n
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: season tournament when it was first proposed to me, And I.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: Don't really went to Paul and proposed it.
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: No, you know, like people tell you about it, Like,
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: I'm sort of coming around to it for the reason
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: Fred just said, like, why would you be watching the
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: Celtics win a thirty point game over Chicago last night
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: other than the intrigue of are they going to win
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: this game by enough points to advance them this stupid tournament. Now,
- 1:20:46Speaker 6: you can make an argument this should be a better way.
- 1:20:49Speaker 6: But I do think that it's engaged the players a
- 1:20:52Speaker 6: little bit and they've played a little bit harder than
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: they would.
- 1:20:55Speaker 8: I don't hate it. I don't love it.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: I don't love the idea, but I don't I was
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: way out initially a lot of seeing how it's unfolded.
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: I mean, the idea of them playing like Milwaukee.
- 1:21:06Speaker 6: Or the Lakers or Phoenix or you know someone you
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: know good with something quote unquote on the line.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: Well, I.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Was talking to somebody today who we're talking about the NBA,
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: And I don't want to get down too much of
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: a rabbit hole, but the NBA is in trouble. They're
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: staring at these regional sports networks failing and teams losing
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: the revenue from those deals, and they're in a little
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: bit of a crisis right now to figure out what
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: they're going to do. And when you know, when I
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: when I talk, I'm talking about like sports. Yeah maybe
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: you know, I don't know the Boston market, but a
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: lot of these markets. Uh, these rs n s are failing,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: they're going they're going under, and the teams are like,
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: what do we do? You know, one of the teams
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: started their own OTT thing. It's going to be like
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: a paid service. I mean, that's that's risky.
- 1:21:58Speaker 8: They they plus, yeah, plusing it up?
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: What is over the top? Like you know, okay, yeah, don't.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I just there's something intriguing to me about the idea.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: I mean it's always in college you have tournaments and
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: in all kinds and usually around that that holiday break time. Yeah,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: you know, but I don't know, like you know, get
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: the Florida hockey teams to play off like the California team.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: You know, you could have little tournaments everywhere, and I
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: guess it's.
- 1:22:20Speaker 6: Kind of hard to do because of the schedule, like
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: you have to have you know, you have to like
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: they have to have their schedule, so you have to
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: play your your eighty two.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: Games, a playoff game, and a turn you don't know, you.
- 1:22:33Speaker 8: Don't exactly what you're playing.
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: But I mean, I give them credit for trying to
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: make the regular season more interesting and incentivizing the players
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: to play harder. Now I win this tournament five hundred
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: thousand dollars.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: Each every player. Yeah, I thought it. I thought it
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: was a million.
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: Maybe I think it's five hundred k per player.
- 1:22:56Speaker 20: And now that doesn't sound like much for like like
- 1:22:58Speaker 20: a Tatum or a Browns a night out these guys,
- 1:23:01Speaker 20: but like the other guys, I heard, like Mike Gorman
- 1:23:04Speaker 20: talking about it this morning on my station, Freddy, you
- 1:23:07Speaker 20: know the guys at the end of the bench.
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: That's that's significant.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to Eldred in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:23:14Speaker 14: Hey, the world's greatest podcast. Everybody doing?
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Oh? Thank you? Appreciate that. Thank you.
- 1:23:20Speaker 14: Yeah, I like it too. Original what I'm talking about, Sir,
- 1:23:25Speaker 14: I missed them days we used to argue, but yes
- 1:23:28Speaker 14: they man, you brought a George in my heart. Okay
- 1:23:31Speaker 14: because I listened to Yeah, I listened to the podcast. Well,
- 1:23:35Speaker 14: you're claiming for the outside guy like I've been doing
- 1:23:37Speaker 14: for fifty even with Brady, and you're telling me, no,
- 1:23:40Speaker 14: we need to fight about it.
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: That was That was different when it was Brady, you
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: didn't need the outside guy.
- 1:23:46Speaker 14: You still need the outside guy. Now.
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: You don't have the precision on offense to just throw
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: eight yard passages to.
- 1:23:52Speaker 8: Mario Douglas all the way down the field.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: It's not gonna work really.
- 1:23:56Speaker 14: Five yards really five yards. But but I'm like every audio,
- 1:24:00Speaker 14: i'd rather have pinnic uh, Daniel Zeus rise Uh, Caleb
- 1:24:06Speaker 14: Williams like he's like he came out and said it
- 1:24:08Speaker 14: in the beginning he would he wouldn't play for the Patriots,
- 1:24:10Speaker 14: And I think there'd be another Eli Man and somebody
- 1:24:13Speaker 14: else trade. You know, if we was the biggest there,
- 1:24:15Speaker 14: then I won't leave you out with one with two questions. One,
- 1:24:20Speaker 14: if they do run it back with Bill, how much
- 1:24:23Speaker 14: faith did you had that he would do the right
- 1:24:25Speaker 14: thing if we had the top two to three, two
- 1:24:28Speaker 14: to six pick besides trailing app.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: Well, here's the question, Eldred, is it up to him anymore?
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: I mean, you're hearing all this stuff now that it's
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: a collaborative process, and you know how much really is
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: it just Bill's decision on that first round Picktty? I
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: don't know the answer. I'll just I don't know that.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: Just help, I'll help Eldred out a little bit. If
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: this this regime stays. How much confidence do you have
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: that this regime will do the right thing? Matt Grow,
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Elliott will still Belichick not one. I don't have a
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: lot of faith.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of faith.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I'm not good about you, okay, but but don't you
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: think that the crafts are going to make sure that well, well,
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: here's the thing. If Elliott Wolf and Matt Grow are
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: in lockstep with Bill Belichick, then maybe I don't have a.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Lot of confidence.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: But I'm I'm assuming that their reputations are on the
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: line too.
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: I don't like that what I've seen if this has
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: been at all a collaborative, if it has all been
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: a collaborative the last two years. I do not like
- 1:25:30Speaker 6: what I've seen. I know they don't have any really
- 1:25:32Speaker 6: really really good how much how much maybe Christian.
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: Could said how much of Bill's thumb is on these picks,
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: saying to Matt Grow, this is the type of player.
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: I want make sure it fits into these parameters.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: I just wonder if it's don't know how hard it
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: is to screw up the third overall pick though, too.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I think it's easier to not screw that pick up,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: like I mean, and we can talk about how they
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: could screw it up. But like with Gonzalez, I agree
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: that was one.
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: That you know, what kind of thing really frightens me?
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: And you'll you'll probably laugh because these are stupid things
- 1:25:58Speaker 6: that stick in my hand. Robert anything. But No, like
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: two years ago in the draft, when we're talking to
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: Matt Grow and people are wondering about Taekwon Thornton's you've
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: been grinding away at that film. Well, you know, evidently
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: that didn't help you. I'm sure you grinded away it
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: a lot more film than Evan did, but it didn't
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: help you pick a guy who was any better. I
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: didn't like the snarkiness of it, which is ironic coming
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: from me. I agree, Yeah, I haven't been impressed. Let's
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: just put it that way. We don't have to go
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: to the chapter verse. I haven't been overly impressed with that.
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: I still think it's Bill, but he's got help from
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: Wolf and Grow, and I haven't been impressed with Bill.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: If you want fast guys, you got a draft fast.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: If you want to got a draft, you.
- 1:26:43Speaker 8: Got to ask you so right, that's what they said.
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: That's what they I.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: Find myself disagreeing with that, Like, if you want to
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: be rich, you got to make It's not that simple.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: It's you got to draft guys who are smart and
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: know how to play and play fast, you know. And
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: so it's like I don't like, you don't want to
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: get into like a semantics are given with them, but
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: it's like with Thornton, that's what they did, Like they
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: just what are you run for? Two? Great?
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: That's what al Davis used to do. Who's the fastest
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: guy in the draft.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: They take the first run? Can he catch now? Not really?
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Does you know where to not really? But he can
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: get there fast? Art great?
- 1:27:13Speaker 14: Tell yeah yeah, yeah, but Watson was there too.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: We could have got him, but no Christian Watson.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Christian Watson. I like Tom, he was one of my guys.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: I liked him more.
- 1:27:22Speaker 8: And Watson carry is very much out on him now strange.
- 1:27:26Speaker 14: And then you get strange. Like I said before, it
- 1:27:30Speaker 14: was the f draft in the beginning, I still said it.
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: That was a bad draft there, Yeah, bad draft. Yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: bad draft.
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: But Marcus Jones like the only one.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: Yeah, really yeah, only one. Yeah, he's hurt and he's hurt.
- 1:27:44Speaker 14: I just wish uh they start and if they get
- 1:27:47Speaker 14: a first of Bill or a suck it, take it, yeah,
- 1:27:50Speaker 14: and have somebody else in place. And no, I don't
- 1:27:54Speaker 14: want nobody from Bill's three because they try to run
- 1:27:56Speaker 14: and Bill and.
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: They don't work all right out, thank you Florio throwing
- 1:28:02Speaker 6: out Rabel for the Patriots.
- 1:28:04Speaker 8: I think Florio was on with Rich Eisen, I want
- 1:28:07Speaker 8: to say yesterday.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: And here Eisen posed a question to him about the
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: possibility of Rabel being on the hot seat in Tennessee
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: and going to Ohio State, and Florio answered the question
- 1:28:20Speaker 6: by turning it and saying, I think it wouldn't have
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: anything to do with Tennessee having Vrabel on the hot seat,
- 1:28:26Speaker 6: but maybe Rabel being done with the Titans, and then
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: he had mentioned something that he had heard in the
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: summer in passing that wouldn't be stunning if the Patriots
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: made a play for Rabel.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I I love Mike Rabel. I just wonder why there
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: isn't more of a groaning about that potential move because
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: it feels like that's everything people don't want as a
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: defensive coach who, let's face it, like the team he's
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: built in Tennessee is not the team that you want
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: to see built here, Like you don't want to see
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: him come here and be like, we got to find
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: a six foot three, two hundred and fift pound running back.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: That's my first thing.
- 1:29:00Speaker 8: I feel like Mike Vrabel and you know me too,
- 1:29:04Speaker 8: Mike Frabel.
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: If they get Mike Vrabel, then if I'm I'm at it.
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: But I feel like Mike Vrabel is living off of
- 1:29:09Speaker 6: one playoff upset in Baltimore the year that Lamar Jackson
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: won the MVP. It's a team that is antiquated, just
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: like all the things that we complain about with the Patriots.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: They have no passing game. They had a weapon, they
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: traded it like an AJ Brown, Derrick Henry's nearing the end.
- 1:29:32Speaker 6: You can't, in my opinion, you can't win big that way.
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: I think he maximized it. I think he can coach.
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: I think Mike much like I'll tell you, I think
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: Bill Belichick's a great coach. I just think that style
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: doesn't work. Like so, you can have the best x's
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: and o's if you're not really trying to do what
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: I think you know you should do. I'm going to
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: say I disagree with it now. I don't understand why
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: Vrabel gets as much love as he does based on
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: what's happened.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: And that's coming from us. We both love the guy,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: mean so.
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: And I do. I love him, and he was the
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: number one seed halfway. I think he ended up being
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: the number one seed in twenty one Max Max rookie year.
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: Somehow that team was banged up and they got the
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: number one and then they got punched right out.
- 1:30:15Speaker 8: Of the playoffs.
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: And then last year they were something like I don't
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: know were they. I think they were like seven and three,
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: seven and two, and they ended up losing out something
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: like that and ended up losing the division of Jacksonville.
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: And this year they've been bad. Tannehill was you know,
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: he gave them a little bit of a jump that
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: first year when they beat the Patriots.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: Is here, I know Robinson got canned.
- 1:30:42Speaker 8: Yeah, but because of the A. J. Brown trade?
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: Is who's the GM now?
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Oh okay, so I don't know, like how much of
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: the blame pie goes to him?
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: And yeah, no, Now I think BELLI I mean Belichick,
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: Rabel won the power struggle, but ran Carthon. I think
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: that's how you pronounce is it car or Carthon? I
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: think he won. I mean he's the GM now, and
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: I think Rabel might have final say.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: But I've also seen reports out of Tennessee that that
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: they like Mike Rabel, that they want him long term.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: I mean know you said that he might want out,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: but I think that's.
- 1:31:11Speaker 8: Just Me's what Florio said.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: Florio said, that's just to me, like I can talk
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: myself into Jiraw Mayo a little bit more because there's
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: like kind of like Will Greer, there's an element of
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: unknown and it's like, well, Rabel has coached a team,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: we know what he kind of wants to build with Mayo.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Maybe there's that hope of but he's going to realize
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: you've got to bring the offense into the twenty first century.
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: And yeah, and I guess you know, like what Floria
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: was pointing to is his Oh and that's a famous
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: shot of him when they traded aj Brown and how
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: upset he looked. Yeah, oh yeah, you know, and then
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: he ended up winning that. But then even this this
- 1:31:44Speaker 6: past year with the trade deadline, there was a lot
- 1:31:46Speaker 6: of talk about trading Derrick Henry or Hopkins, and he
- 1:31:50Speaker 6: was like, no, we don't want any part of that,
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: and then they traded Bayered. So that's why I think
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: Florio sort of supposing that he's done with They're.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: On the same page Marvin and Cernersville, North Carolina. Old
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: friend says, ESPN is reporting Rogers is cleared to practice.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: There goes our.
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: Lunch when we're talking about that. Yeah, now we did,
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: uh yeah we did. We did see that.
- 1:32:19Speaker 8: Very interesting. I think it's crazy, but very interesting.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: I'm excited for it. I just think, like, honestly, I think.
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: It'd be great if he was healthy and played that
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: last game. At least you give you something.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: I know, you know, Bill's gonna want to beat those Jets,
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: no matter what's gonna happen. When yeah, on Saturday one
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: o'clock Sunday.
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: Can't get that like Saturday.
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean in Texas, says Belichick cannot afford to
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: sit tight at the end of the season because of
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: internal candidates like Mayo and Bill O'Brien. The Crafts can
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: screw Belichick and fire him in March after all the
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: coaching slots have been filled. Other owners would be reluctant
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: to fire their current coach and bringing Bill on the
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: eve of free agency, leaving him nowhere to go in
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: twenty twenty four.
- 1:32:56Speaker 8: Yeah, but then they'd have to pay him well.
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: And they not only that, but they who's making the
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: decisions up until March. I mean, there's a lot of
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: stuff we need to do.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: Combine anyway, somebody's back and then.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: Has returned, and then has returned, has returned.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: All right, Evan, what what's going on? We would get
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Paul back in here before I think gives this report.
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: I'm just gonna say that the grousing today was was
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: pretty high.
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: But I'll get to that in a second.
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: So out at Patriots practice, there was there was a
- 1:33:43Speaker 7: lot going on out there today out at Patriots practice,
- 1:33:47Speaker 7: two players missing, uh Pop Douglas not at practice, I
- 1:33:51Speaker 7: would assume concussion protocol for for Pop and time Montgomery.
- 1:33:57Speaker 7: He's not spotted. It's a weird one, but that's an
- 1:34:00Speaker 7: unknown absence. But as much Pop is a big one,
- 1:34:05Speaker 7: you know, if you're still in the interest of winning
- 1:34:07Speaker 7: football games, Pop is a big one.
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: The bigger one. Though.
- 1:34:11Speaker 7: We saw about three minutes of positional drills and saw
- 1:34:15Speaker 7: Bailey Zappy take every single rep at quarterback.
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: Okay, so they want you to see.
- 1:34:21Speaker 7: Didn't see Mac Jones throw a single pass and he
- 1:34:27Speaker 7: was just standing there the whole time watching Bailey Zappy.
- 1:34:32Speaker 7: Not only did Mac Jones not take a single rep,
- 1:34:35Speaker 7: Will Greer took a couple and Mac was just standing.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: There, just standing there, don't move squat. Well, I mean,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: it's what has to happen. I feel like, I mean, like,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: what took so long to get to this point of
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: he just needs to take a break.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: And I think, I think, again, I don't know anything,
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: but I think this is Bill saying here's what I'm doing.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: I'm not gonna come to the podium and tell you,
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: you know, because I'm just not going.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: To get into that.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: But if you want the answer, there he does not
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: there's your answer. Bailey, Zappy's going to be yours.
- 1:35:09Speaker 7: I should correct myself. Got my backup quarterbacks confused. It
- 1:35:12Speaker 7: was Malie Cunningham that took a couple of snaps difference,
- 1:35:15Speaker 7: it's not well greer, my apologies. Yeah, so Malik Cuttingham
- 1:35:20Speaker 7: was the one that I think maybe he threw one
- 1:35:22Speaker 7: or two passes to just to give Zappi a breather,
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: But it was it was a Zappi hour like that.
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: It was dominated.
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: But that's my guess is that's what's going to happen,
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: and rather than announce it, he's showing you what's gonna happen.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: The only thing that makes sense to me is to
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: give Zappy all the reps this week and let him
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: let the star and prepare and if he falls on
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: his face, what do you get this.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: There was a little throwaway line that Zappi had after
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: the game, and I think it was something to the
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: effect of, you know, in games that I've started, you know,
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: and mentioning that he won games that he started, you know,
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: and that was kind of like, don't don't blame me
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: when I get put in and the last drives two halftime.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Yeah, did you hear what Evan said?
- 1:36:09Speaker 8: But he's two and oh in games that you started,
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: they've lost every other game he's appeared in.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, yes, that's true.
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: Yeah, so what did I miss? Barely Z happy he's
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: the starter.
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: Mac was just standing there watching.
- 1:36:22Speaker 7: I'm not going to say he's the starter, but I'm
- 1:36:23Speaker 7: gonna I can't say that.
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: But my guess is Bill showing us what he's going
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: to do rather than having to go to the podium
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: and say it because it would be very Mac is
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: not going to touch the feet because they could very
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: easily have said, Okay, warm ups and done, you know,
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: stretching's done, you're out of here.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: But they wanted the media to see this. Oh.
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: He did give Doug a little bit more of a
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: response on Elie Cunningham than I was expecting, Like he
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: kind of went into a little bit of depth withly Cunningham,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: just that he's been doing both. He's a unique player.
- 1:36:50Speaker 14: You know.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: It wasn't just he's a receiver and you know that
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: kind of thing that usually does.
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: See I thought it was kind of he's a receiver
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: unless we play a team that has that kind of
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: quarterback and then we make him do scout team to that.
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I mean like otherwise, I think he's been
- 1:37:02Speaker 8: a receiver.
- 1:37:03Speaker 7: I just looking at the three minutes, like I gotta
- 1:37:06Speaker 7: keep on prefacing that it was three minutes that we
- 1:37:09Speaker 7: saw of practice today, Bailey Zappy, Malik Cunningham taking all
- 1:37:14Speaker 7: of the reps, Mac Jones just standing there watching. I
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: think that there's even a chance that Mac is just
- 1:37:20Speaker 7: inactive for the game on Sunday.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: Which I agree.
- 1:37:24Speaker 6: I think it makes sense.
- 1:37:25Speaker 7: If you're not going to start him, then it probably
- 1:37:27Speaker 7: doesn't make a whole lot of sense to even have
- 1:37:29Speaker 7: him active and hanging, you know, looking over Bailey's appy
- 1:37:32Speaker 7: shoulder at every turn. So I think that there's a
- 1:37:35Speaker 7: chance that maybe he's the emergency quarterback if anything. But
- 1:37:39Speaker 7: I think there's a chance that mac Jones is just
- 1:37:41Speaker 7: flat out and active.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: I I that sounds reasonable to me. So that's great,
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: that's well, not great, but that's interesting stuff.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Thank you for that.
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: Pads today, Pads today, pads on Wednesdays, we did see
- 1:37:54Speaker 7: pads and it was it was freezing and it was
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: real col and.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: With with young Bailey under center today, Yes, what was
- 1:38:02Speaker 2: the mood of his teammates?
- 1:38:05Speaker 7: Exactly the same thing. Okay, there was no mood swing,
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: which when he came into the game last week, say
- 1:38:13Speaker 7: what you want about the sixty yard touchdown drive that
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: he led, because it was screen passes and runs, right,
- 1:38:18Speaker 7: It wasn't like he really did anything fancy in particular,
- 1:38:21Speaker 7: but there was a momentary jolt, right, I mean they
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: went down the field when he got in the game.
- 1:38:27Speaker 7: It was very short lived, but you wonder if maybe
- 1:38:30Speaker 7: there is a little bit of a of a jolt.
- 1:38:34Speaker 7: Not that we would see that today necessarily, but on Sunday.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: Yeah, all I can say about and I agree that
- 1:38:40Speaker 6: first drive they went down and scored. They didn't score
- 1:38:43Speaker 6: any drives on the first half. Do you know they
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: had more yards in the first half than the second half. Like,
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: I have to look at that, And I was like, huh,
- 1:38:52Speaker 6: it's just amazing how your mine can play tricks on
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: you just because of you know one like, because I
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: agree with Evan, I thought, yeah, if the production wasn't
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: really any different, but it looked bad.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: But really, like the best thing for me was just
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: that he kind of shook out of a sack and
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: kind of got away. Oh.
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: I think that was the best thing that he did,
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: was he far exceeded what Mac does under pressure, moving
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: around avoiding sacks, even a little shovel that he had
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: to Stevenson that was just short of the first down.
- 1:39:23Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, a little off script, he keeps his
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: eyes up heah, he did. Uh, it was almost it
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: was kind of an if he passed, but he threw
- 1:39:32Speaker 7: one to Juju in the right flat where they blitzed
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: and they had to abort the play action and Remandre
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: picked up the blitzer and he kind of just danced
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: around the blitzer a little bit and then got his
- 1:39:43Speaker 7: eyes back up field, and it was an if he passed.
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: I mean, I didn't love the pass, but he had
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: another if he passed on the the last drive before
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: the field goal attempt where the guy basically dropped it.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: So now what about the grousing.
- 1:39:57Speaker 6: Yeah, well it was it was really cold.
- 1:39:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it was really cold out and uh, there's a
- 1:40:02Speaker 7: lot of grousing about Army Navy, and I know careful.
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: People were commerce.
- 1:40:10Speaker 7: You guys are calling me a communist because I'm on the.
- 1:40:12Speaker 8: Why why why is the grossing about Army?
- 1:40:15Speaker 7: Well, because the press conferences were today and some people
- 1:40:17Speaker 7: like Alex Bart, you know, the college football people here
- 1:40:20Speaker 7: were up at the at the press conferences with this guy.
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: He was there, Deuce was there, and uh, you know,
- 1:40:26Speaker 7: there was a lot of conversation about are you going,
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: are you excited?
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: Is that the other thing?
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: And you know, I have I have getten, I have
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: no It sounds like you a grouser. I have no
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: time for the wing tea. Yeah, now, I you do
- 1:40:38Speaker 7: do six to three on your own.
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: There was there was some shocker.
- 1:40:43Speaker 8: I was thinking about it.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: I do think it would be kind of cool just
- 1:40:47Speaker 6: to experience the pageantry in some way.
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: But there's so much going on, Like there's much with
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: this game.
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Like, honestly, I have a lot I have to do
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: on Saturday. You know, I don't have a lot of
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: Saturdays off. Yeah, so I need to get things done.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: Something probably stuff like that, you know, you know, around
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: the house.
- 1:41:07Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: Some I have the utmost respect for the military, and
- 1:41:12Speaker 7: I mean that sincerely.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: This game heavily invested in the Navy program.
- 1:41:17Speaker 7: This game every single year puts football back like fifty years,
- 1:41:21Speaker 7: like in terms of like what they actually do in
- 1:41:23Speaker 7: the football game.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: It's not good football.
- 1:41:25Speaker 7: And I just I can't the fact that we make
- 1:41:26Speaker 7: such a pageantry about about a football game that literally
- 1:41:30Speaker 7: is like it was played in nineteen fifty. I just can't.
- 1:41:34Speaker 7: I'm sorry.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you for yourself. It was funny. I was
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: listening to the Army coach a little bit and he
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: was just talking about, you know, like we played I
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: think they played LSU this year, and I mean they
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: got like sixty one up, but he's like, you know,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: we'll just before the ball is even snapped, were already overmatched.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: Like these are a lot of the games that you
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: know they have to play. But Army has a chance.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: Actually they upset Air Force and if they win this
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: game they eat, maybe they win the Commander in Chief.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: I do wonder because all three of them run the wishbone,
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: you know, and the triple option. I know that you
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: don't necessarily need high level athletes, I know the obvious,
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: but like, why don't necessarily have to have the best
- 1:42:14Speaker 6: top I mean, obviously you can't compete with LSU, but
- 1:42:17Speaker 6: you're not competing with LSU running your triple option either, So.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: Why do they do? Why do you have to do?
- 1:42:21Speaker 6: Why do they all have to run the triple I
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: honestly don't know. I mean, there's like every high school
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: almost in the world now runs the spread, right.
- 1:42:28Speaker 7: That's what I was just about to say, was that
- 1:42:30Speaker 7: you can make the excuse of the athletes, but like
- 1:42:32Speaker 7: the high school teams in this country are now running
- 1:42:35Speaker 7: air raid spread offenses with with sixteen year olds, Like
- 1:42:38Speaker 7: so I understand that. I don't get it. I don't
- 1:42:41Speaker 7: get it.
- 1:42:42Speaker 8: It is strange to me that they all run the
- 1:42:44Speaker 8: same offense.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: It just feels kind of a military offense though.
- 1:42:48Speaker 8: Just well, that's it's disciplined.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: We're just going to be grind what we do and
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: we're gonna rights right flank.
- 1:42:56Speaker 7: There was a lot of there's a lot of grit
- 1:42:58Speaker 7: and toughness and like all this kind is.
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: And I will say, I do not watch the games,
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: you know, for sixty minutes, but I will click it
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: on and I will keep tabs of the score, and
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: if it's close in the last five minutes, I will
- 1:43:12Speaker 6: watch and be riveted because of just how much it
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: means to both sides.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: And afterwards they sing both of them.
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know why you have to make fun
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: of things, like there's no tradition anymore.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: We can't well, we can't look back. And I think
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: that everybody just like every I think like three hours
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: before the game, everybody comes in at once? Is that?
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Which is what everyone says.
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: That's what I said, Like the pageant, it's not the game,
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: it's so much, you know, it's just it's I thought
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: about it. But yeah, ultimately it was a little too expensive.
- 1:43:43Speaker 7: Yeah, one question about going for the table. About the
- 1:43:47Speaker 7: quarterback situation.
- 1:43:48Speaker 6: Yeah, oh okay, back on the rails.
- 1:43:50Speaker 7: Yeah, because I got we're done with that.
- 1:43:53Speaker 8: I can't.
- 1:43:54Speaker 7: I can't even does Mac Jones start another game for
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: the Patriots and his career?
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: I think about that, I'm gonna say yea, let me
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: say yes.
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: I'm going to say yes to but not because.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: I think it's just gonna be middling with Zappi and
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: you know they'll be let's give back another chance against It's.
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: A good question, one that you wouldn't even entertain a
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: year ago.
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: But I'm going to say no, this.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: Is its September.
- 1:44:23Speaker 10: Look at that.
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: Job, thank you. As recently a September, I would have
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: said they'll definitely pick up his fifty year option because
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: it's cheap. But now it's not that cheap.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: But they look at they're still might.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: But for this he could be a backup next year.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: I mean, but is it backup quarterback cheap?
- 1:44:42Speaker 6: No? Oh no, No, what he would make next year
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: would be back up quarterback. The fifty year option wouldn't
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: be backup quarterback cheap.
- 1:44:47Speaker 10: No.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: Can you franchise franchise that guy? If a fourth year pick,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: the first round pick, you don't pick up his option,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: but then yeah, the end of the fourth year you
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: franchise him instead.
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: You sure, I'm pretty sure. Yeah you can't, I think
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: because they could have done that with Daniel Jones and
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: they did it with Arkley instead.
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:01Speaker 7: No, the fifth year option, I have to look up
- 1:45:02Speaker 7: the number again. It's somewhere, but the franchise I want
- 1:45:05Speaker 7: to say, it's like twelve to fifteen million for the
- 1:45:07Speaker 7: fifth year option, but it's all based off of position
- 1:45:11Speaker 7: and where in the draft you went in the first round,
- 1:45:14Speaker 7: and I believe it's somewhere in like the twelve to
- 1:45:16Speaker 7: fifteen nine.
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: I mean, it wouldn't be ideal, but it would be
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: like if in that fourth year you didn't pick it
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: up and he just all of a sudden it all clicked,
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: and then you know, and then you want it's probably
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: still a way too.
- 1:45:25Speaker 8: Franchise it's a lot more expensive than the fifth year round.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you miss out on it, you know,
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: but not that.
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: But I just look at it as like, chances of
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: someone getting hurt between now and the end of the
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: year are probably pretty good. He might have to play.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: I gotta say, though, I don't. I don't feel like
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: I can really make a case that he deserves to
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: start again, at least at this point. I mean, I
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: think he's been given plenty of chances, and I think
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: they've given him a long beach.
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: And I you don't know how the draft process is
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: gonna unfold either. What if they can't get a what
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: if they don't get a quarterback in the first round?
- 1:45:59Speaker 7: Also the fifth option point because he made the Pro.
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: Bowl, you should that counts because I've been told that
- 1:46:06Speaker 6: that does not.
- 1:46:06Speaker 7: Oh no, no, this is it's a playing time incentive. Sorry,
- 1:46:09Speaker 7: because he started so many games. It's actually twenty three million.
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: Okay, it escalates because of that.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: That's a little different. It's a little rich for my blood.
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: Yeah, but to me, it's no different than fifteen.
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: Well it was twelve to fifteen was Yeah.
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: And I think this is a zero percent chance they
- 1:46:23Speaker 6: were picking it up at twelve million.
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: Twenty three million is not happening.
- 1:46:27Speaker 6: No, and I don't I don't think and I would
- 1:46:29Speaker 6: have said for sure in September.
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: That not in this economy.
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: I don't think he's starting the Patriots.
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: All right, Let's get to the phones. Wills and Florida.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: What's up Will?
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: Oh Wow? Party's on after the game? Matthews and Virginia Beach.
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: What's up, Matthew?
- 1:46:46Speaker 21: How you doing today?
- 1:46:47Speaker 14: Guys?
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: Good?
- 1:46:48Speaker 21: Hey, Hey, it's going to start off by saying, go
- 1:46:51Speaker 21: Navy beat Army.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Okay, this one, I'm off for that.
- 1:46:54Speaker 21: Yeah, I'm rooting for Army, active duty Navy. They pay
- 1:46:57Speaker 21: me to say that.
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: That's all right, Okay, thank you for your.
- 1:47:00Speaker 21: Us YEP, appreciate it, Thanks for the sport. Just getting
- 1:47:04Speaker 21: back to a previous call with Eldred. Yeah, I gotta say,
- 1:47:08Speaker 21: and I don't think I'm telling any tales out of
- 1:47:11Speaker 21: school here, but I'd rather standpaper, a bobcast ass, and
- 1:47:14Speaker 21: a phone booth than to trust Bill Belichick in this
- 1:47:16Speaker 21: regime with a draft pick, I mean, And which brings
- 1:47:23Speaker 21: me to another point, like I noticed, you know, we
- 1:47:25Speaker 21: talk about, and we've been talking about for a while
- 1:47:27Speaker 21: the the lack of talent on this team, and everybody
- 1:47:32Speaker 21: has all of their fingers and toes pointed at Bill
- 1:47:34Speaker 21: Belichick for assembling this roster. But I noticed, like we
- 1:47:38Speaker 21: don't talk about who's actually scouting these players, like who
- 1:47:41Speaker 21: is are we? And maybe I don't really I don't
- 1:47:44Speaker 21: fully grasp how the how the scouting process.
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: You're right, you're.
- 1:47:48Speaker 21: Pro scouting or college scouting or is it is? Is
- 1:47:51Speaker 21: this like you know, are they are they coming back
- 1:47:54Speaker 21: to Bill in the front office and his coach except
- 1:47:56Speaker 21: saying like you know all this you know, for instance,
- 1:47:58Speaker 21: maybe Cole Strange all this guy is just all world.
- 1:48:01Speaker 21: You got to get him in the first round.
- 1:48:03Speaker 8: It's a great question, you.
- 1:48:04Speaker 21: Know, telling them you are they just giving you know,
- 1:48:07Speaker 21: just basic and from I shouldn't say basic, but you know,
- 1:48:10Speaker 21: this is what this guy is good at. This is
- 1:48:12Speaker 21: these are his strengths things like that? Or are they
- 1:48:16Speaker 21: scouting like through a Patriots land like how they would fit?
- 1:48:19Speaker 21: I guess I just need more clarify.
- 1:48:21Speaker 8: It all depends on who you believe.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: That's troubling. Yeah, I mean I I just always think
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: of it as there's low level scouts and they do
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: the hard work. And you know, if things just work
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: their way up the chain and each person gets a
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: look and then it finally gets to Bill Belichick and
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: they say, this is what our board, this is what
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: and he goes through and he then and I.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: Believe he also watches film.
- 1:48:40Speaker 8: Oh sure, but it all depends on who you believe.
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: There's been a lot of stories over the past ten
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: plus years that have indicated that he goes rogue a lot,
- 1:48:48Speaker 6: and he gets all of his reports from the scouts,
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: he says thank you, and then he goes on his own.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: Well, there's no doubt that he did that with Rutgers
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: because I think it was a thank you to the
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: program one, you know, for taking care of Steve there,
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: you know, letting him walk on and be a long
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: snapper and all that. And he likes Chiano. And I
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: think a lot of those picks, not saying there were
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: bad picks. All those guys had good careers, you know,
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: but but I think he made it a point to
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: take Rutgers guys.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: You know. It was a good streak.
- 1:49:23Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, you Madruckers.
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: Mccordy was great, Logan Ryan was in the league for
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: a long time, Deron Harmon was in the league for
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: a long time. I'm not saying they were great players,
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: but they had decent NFL careers.
- 1:49:38Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, like those guys are are are like
- 1:49:41Speaker 7: they deserve to be in an NFL secondary.
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: The average NFL careers three and a half years, and
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: they far exceeded none of them.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: We got Harmon and McCarty.
- 1:49:51Speaker 7: Was Logan Logan, Ryan Logan, Ryan was He went on
- 1:49:55Speaker 7: to be a pretty good player after here as well.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: Yeah, So I mean they were all decent player.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think that there were other people that
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: could have been picked. But I think Bill made it
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: a point to thank SIANOA Steve O.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Harness.
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: I mean, in fairness there, I'm not going to use
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: that like that was wasn't even like a six or
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: seventh round pick. Yeah, there was a couple of those.
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: I think my problem with the Rutgers guys other than
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: mccordy as I felt like they were overdrafted, not that
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: they weren't NFL players, to use Evans phrase, they were.
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: You know, I think Harmon's still.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: Playing, Yeah, he was a practice squad recently.
- 1:50:29Speaker 7: Any think I think the biggest you know, Nikhil Harry
- 1:50:32Speaker 7: is the biggest one, but there just are so many
- 1:50:33Speaker 7: times that they take guys and you're like, that could
- 1:50:38Speaker 7: not have been their board, right, Like, like I know
- 1:50:40Speaker 7: how much work you know, Macro and Cameron Williams and
- 1:50:43Speaker 7: all those guys put into the draft, and there's no
- 1:50:46Speaker 7: way that they know those guys went into the twenty
- 1:50:49Speaker 7: twenty two draft and Cole Strange was at the top
- 1:50:51Speaker 7: of board.
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: There's no doubt that Bill often shoes talent in order
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: to strengthen connections, say thank you to a guy up
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: a program that he likes or because of the coach
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: or whatever. You know, there's no doubt that he's he's
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: done that thing over just taking the best guy.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: The draft results back you up, Fred.
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, And I think that's one of his flaws,
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: is like it's it all comes in the heading of loyalty,
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: and you know, like loyalty we was friends his circle
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: of friends, and that's kind of like a you would
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: think that's an admirable trade, but sometimes it can get
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: in the way of just business decisions.
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: You know. What was the hairy one though, I think
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: that is that just I mean, I know, the Lombardy thing.
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: There was a couple of different what's his name scenario.
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: Todd Graham.
- 1:51:41Speaker 7: Yeah, so no, no, no, but he he liked who
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: was the guy? It might it might have been Todd
- 1:51:49Speaker 7: Graham the really said to kill Harry. Also, I remember
- 1:51:55Speaker 7: hearing that his visit here, his top thirty visit, thanks Math,
- 1:52:00Speaker 7: he knocked it out of the park compared to Debo
- 1:52:03Speaker 7: A J. Brown, obviously it was I forget, I always
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: forget which one it was. Deebo is the one that
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: instagram lived himself here like that. You know, that's a
- 1:52:11Speaker 7: quick way to not be an.
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: Or something like that. That's not happening. But again, that
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: would infuriate me if I was like, oh, yeah, it
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: does that would infuriate me that that really And I'm
- 1:52:25Speaker 6: not I'm not gonna blame him for something I don't
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: know that he did. But if that's why, that would
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: be infuriating.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: To me, what Brown do because he was the same thing, right, yeah,
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: A J.
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: Brown.
- 1:52:34Speaker 7: I just think that to Kill Harry had a really
- 1:52:36Speaker 7: really good visit.
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: Harry could play on four downs.
- 1:52:40Speaker 7: I also, you know, remember back now, just thinking about this,
- 1:52:44Speaker 7: Gronk was on the top one hundred all time thing
- 1:52:47Speaker 7: with Belichick and told the story about how he fell
- 1:52:50Speaker 7: asleep during his Top thirty visit and was like, not there,
- 1:52:54Speaker 7: I heard that, and they still drafted him and look
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: at what happened.
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:52:57Speaker 7: So if that was really the true story with Nikill Harry,
- 1:53:00Speaker 7: is that it came down to he was really good
- 1:53:03Speaker 7: on the whiteboard compared to everybody else.
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: Then, Like that's.
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: Everybody said that about Chad Jackson too, Yeah, Freddy yep.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: Man, he's got a blind spot with those guys, I think.
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean picking guys for little anecdotal things like that.
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: You know, just watch the film. How does he compare?
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: And that gets back to what we were talking about,
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: Like that's why I'm not necessarily offended about this Jaden
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: Daniels thing of him sort of rising because it's he's
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: rising because of his play play.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: And I mean to be clear, like I wasn't you know, No, no, no,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: you're not offended, but you know, like I just it's
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: like you spent like these guys just become flavor of
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: the month, and all of a sudden, it's like this guy, like, well,
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: where was where was the other guy? Three months ago?
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: We don't even heard of him.
- 1:53:41Speaker 6: The other part of that is here because we're in
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: this bubble and and all the people that we have
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: on our timelines and stuff. We're now, you know, suddenly
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: everybody's big college football fan at right. You know, we're
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: getting stories and I love Chris Price. Okay, Chris Price
- 1:53:55Speaker 6: the last couple of weeks has been writing a story
- 1:53:58Speaker 6: telling all the fans which games they should be watching,
- 1:54:01Speaker 6: because like, like you to watch college football, you don't like,
- 1:54:06Speaker 6: all of a sudden, they have a top five pick
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: on the horizon. So we got to pay attention a
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: little bit closer to LSU this week. And that's what's happening,
- 1:54:13Speaker 6: is like, and I was two hundred yards in one game.
- 1:54:16Speaker 6: We got to get this.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: He's number three.
- 1:54:17Speaker 7: Now, well, well I'd pushed back a little bit on
- 1:54:20Speaker 7: you deuce because Jaden Daniels was on the NFL radar
- 1:54:23Speaker 7: last year. Oh yeah, yeah, no, I like, you know,
- 1:54:25Speaker 7: he was a guy that he was at LSU's pro
- 1:54:28Speaker 7: day last year. There's the picture with him with Belichick
- 1:54:30Speaker 7: watching the LSU guy's workout, And he was at the
- 1:54:33Speaker 7: pro day last year to do exactly what he was
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: doing Rob elbow is with the guys in the NFL
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: because he was going to be an NFL quarterback. Now
- 1:54:41Speaker 7: he's taken that leap this year into you know, Heisman
- 1:54:45Speaker 7: Trophy territory.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: And didn't he play for herm too? He might have
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: had probably before her.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: That would be that would be the play. Belichick stays
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: he's got the second pick and he picks Jade and
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: Daniels over May I wilt.
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: I wouldn't.
- 1:55:00Speaker 7: I will say I from what I've seen of Jaden
- 1:55:03Speaker 7: Daniels this year, I am very intrigued.
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: Well, he's got I know they've probably I like to
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: see what happens at the combine when his official numbers,
- 1:55:13Speaker 6: but he's listed at six four.
- 1:55:14Speaker 8: Maybe he's not six four. I like the size there too.
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: I know that he looks small to me, but then
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: the kiss.
- 1:55:20Speaker 8: Florida State small Jordan Travis.
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: No, Well, Daniels was just one that I couldn't thinner.
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: He just he's hard to tell just in a picture,
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: hard to tell how big he is really because he's
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: kind of not.
- 1:55:31Speaker 7: He's definitely has a little a thinner.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Frame plus purple thins. But he didn't work for Holy Cross.
- 1:55:39Speaker 7: He's got a lot of the same traits i'd say
- 1:55:42Speaker 7: as a thrower as C. J. Stroud, but he runs
- 1:55:44Speaker 7: better than Stroud does.
- 1:55:46Speaker 6: But is that one of those quick twitch colors though?
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Purple?
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: Oh no, it's darker. David's in New York. What's up, David?
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Not no more David?
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: All right, Okay, we got a few more minutes. Playbook
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: is coming. Let's vamp it up.
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: Playbooks coming up?
- 1:56:02Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, So Bailey z Appy. I think that's the
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: call that I think most people felt like what happened?
- 1:56:08Speaker 6: I still, in the back of my mind wondered, is
- 1:56:10Speaker 6: he just going to keep running it out there with
- 1:56:12Speaker 6: Mac Jones? Yeah?
- 1:56:13Speaker 8: I mean, hopefully we'll see Zappy at least a change
- 1:56:16Speaker 8: to the mame.
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: Like we said, Paul.
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: They didn't have as many yards uh in the second
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: half of the first half, surprisingly, but the end of
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: the day, he I don't know if you call him
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: led them, but he was not a drive. They got
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: them in position to tie the game where the Chip
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: shot field goal.
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: That I'm not giving him credit for that why because
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: they didn't move any yards.
- 1:56:36Speaker 7: He did pick took over basically a field goal. He
- 1:56:39Speaker 7: did pay that was the fourth down, right, He did
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: pick up a fourth down at Juju. That was a
- 1:56:43Speaker 7: bad throw but he caught it.
- 1:56:45Speaker 6: But it's also part of my thing, like in the
- 1:56:47Speaker 6: first half, you don't do that because you're not going
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: for the fourth down and your part like that's another
- 1:56:51Speaker 6: part of it.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I just think that the team took over
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: a midfield. I don't know how the team could keep
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: going out there with Mac, you know, behind Macley. I
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: just fred, it's like they have faith enough. And I
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: don't feel like when you're walking out there with Mac,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: they don't have faith right.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: Now, always somebody's son, but it's enough.
- 1:57:10Speaker 8: That would be somebody I know.
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: And that's just like, can I just say, like they're
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: thirty two of these jobs. It's hard. It is like
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: that you are put on them like tough. It's they're
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: thirty two of the jobs. Like I don't feel bad
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: for any NFL quarterback, like you have God given amazing talent, strength, size,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: all that thing. Sorry if it doesn't quite work.
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: Every once in a while, dark dudes come. But I
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: will say, it's like it feels so bad for this
- 1:57:30Speaker 6: NFL quarterback. I don't feel bad at the world.
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: On a string for the last five years, you know,
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: Like I.
- 1:57:34Speaker 7: Don't feel bad for him, but you like you do
- 1:57:37Speaker 7: worry about he is a human being, and you.
- 1:57:39Speaker 8: Do like you do.
- 1:57:40Speaker 7: You don't worry about his mental health at all. Like
- 1:57:43Speaker 7: poor guy, Like the whole thing is falling apart on him.
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: And I mean, people are calling you hot garbage.
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: And yeah, I don't know that part of it is
- 1:57:52Speaker 6: that's what you sign up for. Yeah, But so I
- 1:57:55Speaker 6: don't necessarily look at that way, but I do have.
- 1:57:57Speaker 6: And there's plenty of guys that I felt bad for,
- 1:57:59Speaker 6: at least o bad for Andrew Luck. I felt like,
- 1:58:01Speaker 6: you know, put a semblance of an offensive line in
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: front of this guy and let him play. He obviously
- 1:58:07Speaker 6: can play, and they didn't have the right support around him.
- 1:58:10Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:58:10Speaker 8: Fred used to say it all the time.
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: Oh God, what a waste.
