Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more disgrace Land in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking
- 0:44Speaker 1: about this week's subject of the Disgrace Sland full episode,
- 0:47Speaker 1: Lana del Rey. We're also talking about rock critics and
- 0:50Speaker 1: female artists call a rock from the nineteen eighties, and
- 0:54Speaker 1: of course we're diving into your voicemails, texts and more,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and as always, a whole lot of rosie. All right, Discos,
- 1:00Speaker 1: let's get into it. I made it through the wilderness, somehow,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I made it through. Didn't know how lost I was
- 1:19Speaker 1: until I found you. I was beat incomplete, I've been had.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I was sad and blue, but you made me feel Yeah,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you made me feel shiny and new, like a virgin.
- 1:35Speaker 1: When I'm watching my TV and a man comes on
- 1:39Speaker 1: and tells me how white my shirts can be, but
- 1:42Speaker 1: he can't be a man because he doesn't smoke the
- 1:45Speaker 1: same cigarettes as me. I can't get no oh no, no, no, hey, hey,
- 1:52Speaker 1: that's what I say. I can't get no satisfaction. Those are,
- 1:57Speaker 1: of course, the lyrics to Madonna's Like a Virgin and
- 2:00Speaker 1: released on November twelfth, nineteen eighty four, and the Rolling
- 2:03Speaker 1: Stones I Can't Get No Satisfaction, released nineteen years earlier
- 2:07Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty five. In the early to mid sixties
- 2:11Speaker 1: and throughout their career, really the Rolling Stones had their
- 2:14Speaker 1: fair share of detractors, of course, but by the early
- 2:17Speaker 1: to mid eighties the rock press had mostly coalesced behind
- 2:21Speaker 1: the well. They were kind of aging rock stars by
- 2:24Speaker 1: that point, and the press were mostly concerned not with
- 2:28Speaker 1: The Stones' music, which in nineteen eighty four was mostly
- 2:31Speaker 1: spectacularly bad, with very few exceptions. Critics were more concerned
- 2:36Speaker 1: at the time with the bickering between Mick Jagger and
- 2:40Speaker 1: Keith Richards. In nineteen eighty four, Like a Virgin was
- 2:44Speaker 1: the lead single off of the album of the same
- 2:46Speaker 1: name by Madonna. Was Madonna's second album, the follow up
- 2:49Speaker 1: to her self titled album from the year prior, an
- 2:52Speaker 1: album that sold five million copies Like a Virgin would
- 2:55Speaker 1: go on to double that and then some It was
- 2:57Speaker 1: a smash right out of the gate. But back to
- 3:00Speaker 1: the lyrics of like a Virgin and satisfaction touched for
- 3:04Speaker 1: the very first time, Like a Virgin, when your heart
- 3:07Speaker 1: beats next to mine, and I'm trying to make some
- 3:11Speaker 1: girl who tells me baby better come back maybe next
- 3:14Speaker 1: week because you see, I'm on a losing streak. At
- 3:18Speaker 1: face value, those two sets of lyrics, if you're objectifying
- 3:22Speaker 1: them completely, if you're separating them from their musical accompaniment,
- 3:25Speaker 1: from the cultural significance, from their historical context, from everything,
- 3:29Speaker 1: if you're just looking at the words, if you're just
- 3:32Speaker 1: considering the poetry of those words, if you're just looking
- 3:34Speaker 1: at the lyrics on a piece of paper, those two
- 3:38Speaker 1: sets of lyrics do not appear to be that different
- 3:41Speaker 1: from one another. Sure, we can't really do that. Okay,
- 3:45Speaker 1: we have all that context and knowledge to fuck up
- 3:48Speaker 1: this experiment. But imagine for a minute that you're an
- 3:52Speaker 1: alien and you just landed in Cleveland, Ohio, and walked
- 3:54Speaker 1: into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and emerged
- 3:57Speaker 1: with these two sets of lyrics on two separate pieces
- 3:59Speaker 1: of paper. You aren't going to be judging these lyrics
- 4:02Speaker 1: all that differently. It's just pop music. One lyric talks
- 4:07Speaker 1: about being a virgin. The other talks about being frustrated
- 4:10Speaker 1: because you can't sleep with a woman who's on her
- 4:12Speaker 1: period or whatever. They're different, sure, but they're a lot alike.
- 4:16Speaker 1: They're risque, but they're kind of tongue in cheek at
- 4:19Speaker 1: the same time. Okay, they're knowing they're immature pop music.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I don't know how else to say it. Yet. Madonna's
- 4:28Speaker 1: lyrics were critically savaged, as was her singing. Most of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the critical claim that Like a Virgin did receive back
- 4:35Speaker 1: in the day was heaped upon the song of the
- 4:37Speaker 1: album's male producer, Now Rogers of Chic. Not that he
- 4:41Speaker 1: didn't deserve praise. He did, but the vibe of the
- 4:43Speaker 1: criticism back then, when we look back at it now,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it sure looks like, Yeah, Madonna just a dumb pop
- 4:49Speaker 1: sex symbol chick who got lucky with some major pop
- 4:52Speaker 1: hit action provided by the adult in the room or
- 4:55Speaker 1: the man in the room. Now Rogers the simplicity an
- 5:00Speaker 1: overt sexuality of Like a Virgin that Madonna gets criticized
- 5:04Speaker 1: for those are the same qualities we've been celebrating about
- 5:08Speaker 1: Mick Jagger for years. The two pop stars are a
- 5:11Speaker 1: generation apart, but I don't think they're all that different,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and I don't think the aliens are going to think
- 5:17Speaker 1: so either. But the critics, the critics almost always get
- 5:20Speaker 1: it wrong in my estimation, especially when it comes to
- 5:21Speaker 1: women in rock and roll and in pop music. Okay,
- 5:24Speaker 1: the Go Goos wrote and recorded some of the greatest
- 5:26Speaker 1: pop songs of the nineteen eighties. You had a large
- 5:28Speaker 1: portion of the reviews about the band from the time
- 5:30Speaker 1: boiled down to the fact that, yeah, they're pretty good.
- 5:32Speaker 1: They're pretty good band for a bunch of chicks, you know.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Poison Ivy of the Cramps. Okay, she should. Guitar players
- 5:37Speaker 1: should be on any self respecting music critics list of
- 5:39Speaker 1: influential guitar players of all time, Yet seldom is Meg White.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Jack White's enigmatic sister slash wife was regarded with a
- 5:46Speaker 1: wink and a nod as basically being lucky to have
- 5:49Speaker 1: fumbled into the gig alongside her talented brother slash husband,
- 5:52Speaker 1: or whatever role Jack White played. But take Meg White's
- 5:55Speaker 1: wild and yes, sometimes inconsistent drumming out of the White Stripes,
- 5:59Speaker 1: and what do you do? Replace her with someone like
- 6:02Speaker 1: Taylor Hawkins or someone that that's a better band to you? Okay,
- 6:06Speaker 1: not that Taylor Hawkins isn't a great drum wasn't a
- 6:08Speaker 1: great drummer. He was, of course, But the Foo Fighters
- 6:10Speaker 1: are their own thing, and the White Strips are their
- 6:12Speaker 1: own thing. And Meg White contributed to what the White
- 6:14Speaker 1: Strips ended up being, to that charm, same thing with
- 6:16Speaker 1: Poison ivy. The Crabs are a singular band in rock
- 6:19Speaker 1: and roll. You know how hard that is to do,
- 6:22Speaker 1: to be a singular band in the history of rock
- 6:25Speaker 1: and roll. The Crams applied so much of their own authenticity,
- 6:30Speaker 1: mainly at the maniacal direction creative direction of Poison Ivy.
- 6:35Speaker 1: They were so authentic to adhering to their own strict
- 6:39Speaker 1: definition of what glorious rock and roll music was that
- 6:42Speaker 1: they invented an entire subgenre by accident in the process
- 6:46Speaker 1: of doing so, psychobilly, and that's Poison ivy. The Go
- 6:49Speaker 1: Gos are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Put we get the beat on and tell me you're
- 6:53Speaker 1: not in a nineteen eighties mall their influence, the Go
- 6:56Speaker 1: Go's influence on American culture. It has singed all of
- 7:00Speaker 1: us of a certain age. And Madonna, Madonna's one of
- 7:03Speaker 1: the greatest to ever do it ever, and the critical
- 7:06Speaker 1: treatment of hers kind of ridiculous. Oh, her lyrics are juvenile.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I get it, I get it. I can't get no satisfaction. Okay,
- 7:14Speaker 1: what's that? Socrates Plato? And Madonna isn't a great singer.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Joe Strummer wasn't a great singer, Okay. Madonna like Joe Strummer,
- 7:23Speaker 1: like the Go Gos, like Poison Ivy, like Meg White,
- 7:26Speaker 1: like Mick Jagger, was pure expression, like Lana del Rey,
- 7:32Speaker 1: another woman who has, in my opinion, been unfairly treated
- 7:35Speaker 1: by the critics, but for different reasons, as you can
- 7:38Speaker 1: hear about in this week's full episode that we just released.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I don't like railing at music critics. They're easy targets,
- 7:45Speaker 1: especially ones from previous generations. You know, are there even
- 7:49Speaker 1: modern day music critics. I don't know. There certainly isn't
- 7:52Speaker 1: any music criticism anymore, not like there was in the seventies, eighties,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and nineties, and even the early odds. Music critics have
- 7:59Speaker 1: universally almost zero cultural significance these days, So it feels
- 8:02Speaker 1: like I'm ranting and battling against an opponent who's already lost,
- 8:05Speaker 1: already lost the war. The issue of why music critics
- 8:08Speaker 1: no longer have any significance is a fascinating one, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: that's for another time. The issue of why women Lana
- 8:14Speaker 1: del Rey in particular have been held to different standards
- 8:17Speaker 1: is today's topic, one that we're going to get into
- 8:19Speaker 1: with your voicemails, text and dms in just a moment.
- 8:22Speaker 1: But I want to talk briefly about next week's episode. Okay,
- 8:26Speaker 1: next week. It's it's a special week, guys. Okay, My
- 8:31Speaker 1: family and I we look forward to this every summer.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I mean my whole family, right, my mom and dad,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and my sisters and my brothers in law, and then
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, my mother in law, my father in law,
- 8:43Speaker 1: my other brother in law, my other sister in law.
- 8:47Speaker 1: And if you're like us, if you're an American family,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you are probably feeling the same way we are right
- 8:52Speaker 1: now in anticipation of next week. It is a big week.
- 8:55Speaker 1: It is the start of the twenty twenty four to
- 8:58Speaker 1: twenty five football season. Okay, now, now, I hold up,
- 9:03Speaker 1: hold up, But before any of you hear the topic
- 9:05Speaker 1: of sports leave my lips and start to get disinterested,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I want to tell you we have a very special
- 9:10Speaker 1: episode coming up next week, and it's it's a true
- 9:14Speaker 1: disgrace Land episode. Even though it is not about music,
- 9:16Speaker 1: it is not about entertainers. It is about the criminal
- 9:18Speaker 1: origins of the National Football League. And it is not
- 9:21Speaker 1: an episode that you were going to want to miss
- 9:22Speaker 1: this episode, even though, like I said, there are no musicians,
- 9:25Speaker 1: there are no Hollywood stars, It is pure Disgraceland. Actually,
- 9:29Speaker 1: Robert de Niro and Joe Peshi briefly show up in
- 9:31Speaker 1: this episode, but regardless, this episode is dark, twisted and
- 9:36Speaker 1: filled with true crime and filled with history that I
- 9:39Speaker 1: frankly did not know existed up and until I started
- 9:42Speaker 1: researching this a couple months ago, and it blew me
- 9:45Speaker 1: away to learn about the criminality advice that the NFL
- 9:48Speaker 1: spawned from criminality, has led to open corruption, led to murder,
- 9:52Speaker 1: even the likely murder of an NFL owner in nineteen
- 9:55Speaker 1: seventy nine. So not like ancient history, guys. So as
- 9:59Speaker 1: we're all g getting our fantasy teams together, as we're
- 10:02Speaker 1: all getting our bets in with fan duel or you
- 10:05Speaker 1: know whatever. You guys still use a bookie whatever. As
- 10:08Speaker 1: we're getting all this together, we're getting psyched. We're gonna
- 10:10Speaker 1: be getting the meals together for Sunday, for Monday, for Thursday.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's all happening. We're all settling into the fall, as
- 10:16Speaker 1: we move from the summer into the football season and
- 10:19Speaker 1: football starts to unite us all together. I'm going to
- 10:23Speaker 1: show up and I'm going to tell you all about
- 10:25Speaker 1: the bad, bad, bad shit that was part of the
- 10:27Speaker 1: NFL back in the day. And it is bad. Okay,
- 10:31Speaker 1: we all know about the recent NFL crimes OJ Simpson,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Mike Vick, Aaron Hernandez, so we shouldn't be surprised based
- 10:38Speaker 1: on how the NFL was founded and based on who
- 10:40Speaker 1: the people were who founded the league and what they're
- 10:41Speaker 1: up to and who they're hanging around with and what
- 10:43Speaker 1: happened because of all that. But I got to tell you,
- 10:44Speaker 1: I was super surprised. I'm excited for you guys to
- 10:48Speaker 1: hear the horrors that we detail in this upcoming NFL episode.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And as you're listening, I want to try to think
- 10:52Speaker 1: about which athlete it could be football, but it can
- 10:55Speaker 1: be really any sport at all. Which athlete because this
- 10:58Speaker 1: is fascinating to me. Messed with this a little bit
- 11:01Speaker 1: in the past, but I really really haven't gone into
- 11:04Speaker 1: it as fully as I think we can. Which athlete
- 11:07Speaker 1: has behaved in the most despicable ways possible? And why? Now,
- 11:12Speaker 1: this is a long list. Okay, some of you might
- 11:14Speaker 1: remember when we did when we did the sports Land series,
- 11:16Speaker 1: we get into some of these topics, but a lot
- 11:19Speaker 1: of you haven't heard any of that. And you know
- 11:22Speaker 1: this this list, like I said, it is long and fascinating,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and particularly when we think about how these athletes rub
- 11:28Speaker 1: up against pop culture. Okay, very interesting to consider. I
- 11:32Speaker 1: want to know, from your perspectives, which athletes have behaved
- 11:37Speaker 1: in the most disgraceful ways. Okay, we can discuss them,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and I'm kind of, as you can probably tell already,
- 11:43Speaker 1: low key considering. You know who I might do for
- 11:45Speaker 1: potential episodes going forward. So as you're listening to the
- 11:48Speaker 1: NFL episode, I want to be thinking about that. Let
- 11:51Speaker 1: me know after you listen to the NFL episode. Remember,
- 11:54Speaker 1: you might not have been into you might not be
- 11:56Speaker 1: Lona Delray fans, but you still love this Lona Delray episode.
- 11:58Speaker 1: We just released. I know you did, so. You might
- 12:01Speaker 1: not be football fans or sports fans at all, but
- 12:03Speaker 1: you're gonna love this NFL episode, Okay, I promise, because
- 12:05Speaker 1: it's a good story and you guys love good storytelling.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Call me up, tell me a story, leave me a voicemail,
- 12:14Speaker 1: send me a text. At the Gracelam pod on the
- 12:16Speaker 1: socials as well. I'm gonna be back in the Flash
- 12:18Speaker 1: with your answers to last week's question one second so
- 12:42Speaker 1: to one of the questions uh last week that spawned
- 12:45Speaker 1: out of the Lana del Rey episode on which female
- 12:47Speaker 1: artists were unfairly treated by the critics. We've got a
- 12:49Speaker 1: ton of response on social Instagram and Facebook, mainly at
- 12:52Speaker 1: disgrace Lamp pod on those platforms, Jones x fifteen writes
- 12:56Speaker 1: Janet Jackson with the Super Bowl, how come JT didn't
- 12:59Speaker 1: get CRAPPEDO this is a great answer, Jones x fifteen.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I remember the Super Bowl two thousand and three New
- 13:07Speaker 1: England Patriots Carolina Panthers. Janet Jackson's nipple crazy. It's hard
- 13:15Speaker 1: to imagine the uproar that came from this stupid incident afterward,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and yeah, this might be this might be an interesting
- 13:26Speaker 1: topic to get into. I know that's Jones x fifteen
- 13:28Speaker 1: wasn't suggesting that, but that's where my head is going. Yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 1: crazy to think that that was so long ago, that
- 13:37Speaker 1: was more than twenty years ago. Corey Nation seventy four
- 13:39Speaker 1: writes earth a Kit after her comments to Lady Bird
- 13:42Speaker 1: Johnson regarding Vietnam at the White House, paid the price
- 13:46Speaker 1: with her career for a rather innocuous statement. I don't
- 13:49Speaker 1: know what the hell this is in reference to, but
- 13:51Speaker 1: I am very intrigued earth a Kit. The singer sounds
- 13:55Speaker 1: like she made some i'm guessing anti war comments to
- 14:00Speaker 1: Lyndon Johnson's wife at the White House, and I'm not
- 14:04Speaker 1: sure how that would have affected her career. Like I mean,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I get, I get the implication that the president's wife
- 14:10Speaker 1: got pissed off and somehow pushed some buttons. But that
- 14:14Speaker 1: seems like a reach, a reach even for late sixties culture.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I want to know what the statement was. Corey Nation
- 14:21Speaker 1: seventy four, hit us back and let us know. Todd Redfern,
- 14:24Speaker 1: also on Instagram, writes Meg White, lots of ridiculous rumors
- 14:27Speaker 1: everywhere Yes, you're right, Todd Redfern. See my earlier comments
- 14:31Speaker 1: on Meg White above. Came Meal writes, Britney Spears and
- 14:37Speaker 1: Amy Winehouse. Yes, Britney Spears and Amy whineous. I feel
- 14:40Speaker 1: like I feel like Britney for sure, But I watched
- 14:44Speaker 1: that documentary and I feel like we didn't get the
- 14:46Speaker 1: whole story. I have late breaking opinions. Even though we've
- 14:50Speaker 1: released two episodes on Britney Spears, My thoughts on this
- 14:54Speaker 1: are evolving. Amy Winehouse for sure, object obsessed, wrote Machine Kelly.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That's pretty funny. Over on Facebook, Nina Cantonese writes, Amy Whitehouse,
- 15:05Speaker 1: they built her up and then tore at her during
- 15:08Speaker 1: her struggle with addiction. I can't argue with that. That's
- 15:11Speaker 1: a big part of our Ammy Winehouse episode there. Nina cantonise,
- 15:14Speaker 1: Amy Winehouse comes up almost every week with you guys
- 15:17Speaker 1: in some sort of commentary. I know we've been talking
- 15:19Speaker 1: a lot about female artists lately, but even beyond that,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I feel like just you guys are huge Amy Winehouse fans.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Someone was asking about doing an Amy Winehouse t shirt.
- 15:29Speaker 1: The Disgraceland Obvious Bivik illustration that we did for the
- 15:32Speaker 1: Disgraceland episode and we were working on that, but then
- 15:36Speaker 1: our storg got completely taken down from our our host platform.
- 15:41Speaker 1: There's a new Storm store that we were building. We
- 15:44Speaker 1: still have the old store up, but it does not
- 15:46Speaker 1: have that Amy Winehouse t shirt on it that I
- 15:49Speaker 1: was putting together. But don't have no fear. We are working.
- 15:53Speaker 1: We are endeavoring behind the scenes here to come up
- 15:57Speaker 1: with some more merch options for you, even if we
- 16:00Speaker 1: don't have that Emy wine House wine. All right. Anyways,
- 16:02Speaker 1: A lot, a lot, a lot of negativity guys on
- 16:07Speaker 1: Instagram and Facebook around the subject of which female artists
- 16:13Speaker 1: have been maligned by the press unfairly. A lot of
- 16:17Speaker 1: negative comments from you guys about Yoko Ono. Okay, Now,
- 16:21Speaker 1: as someone who's made his own I don't want to
- 16:24Speaker 1: say they were definitely negative comments about Yoko Ono, but
- 16:26Speaker 1: they were more snide and more snarky than they were
- 16:28Speaker 1: negative about Yoko. I feel like I need to talk
- 16:32Speaker 1: about this with a little more depth here than I
- 16:34Speaker 1: can do in the comments section on Instagram and Facebook,
- 16:39Speaker 1: in part because it is occurring to me now that
- 16:42Speaker 1: perhaps there could be a Yoko Ono episode of Disgraceland
- 16:46Speaker 1: that could really prove to be divisive. That's not always
- 16:49Speaker 1: a bad thing. Here are my thoughts on Yoko and
- 16:51Speaker 1: I've been very critical of her in the past for
- 16:54Speaker 1: the same reasons that some of you guys have been
- 16:56Speaker 1: in these comments. But I don't think Yoko Ona was
- 16:59Speaker 1: without talent. I mean, we laugh at that footage of
- 17:02Speaker 1: her and Chuck Berry. That's because it's hysterical, and there
- 17:08Speaker 1: may be an extreme lack of talent in that clip,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but there is not an extreme lack of entertainment in
- 17:13Speaker 1: that clip. And Yoko Ono was a provocateur. She was
- 17:16Speaker 1: part of her own She was part of her own
- 17:18Speaker 1: art movement, and not her own. She was part of
- 17:20Speaker 1: a art moment, a very significant art movement that was
- 17:23Speaker 1: going on at the time. She was notorious in her
- 17:25Speaker 1: own right before meeting John Lennon, and had acquired some
- 17:30Speaker 1: of her own fame to that point. Now, that is
- 17:32Speaker 1: not to say that she wasn't driven by John Lennon's
- 17:36Speaker 1: fame in some ways and was not without her faults
- 17:40Speaker 1: in their relationship. There is so much there to unpack,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and there is so much there to criticize. But yogo
- 17:47Speaker 1: Ono is a serious subject in the culture of rock
- 17:51Speaker 1: and roll in the culture of art, just in twentieth
- 17:53Speaker 1: century culture, and I don't think we can just dismiss
- 17:57Speaker 1: her as being either manipulative or untalented. It's a lot
- 18:01Speaker 1: more complicated than that, and that's what makes me think
- 18:04Speaker 1: they're perhaps maybe a Yoko o An episode here in
- 18:07Speaker 1: the future sometime for you guys, regardless of how divisive
- 18:12Speaker 1: that subject might be. Anyhow, if you are completely opposed
- 18:15Speaker 1: to that idea six one seven nine h six six
- 18:17Speaker 1: sixty three eight, leave me a voicemail, send me a text.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I might take it under consideration. I might not, but
- 18:22Speaker 1: I want to hear you beautiful voices on Here's the
- 18:25Speaker 1: second question we asked last week and last week's after party.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I went on a bit of a rand about how
- 18:30Speaker 1: great the nineteen nineties were and how they were peak life.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I asked the question too, did you guys agree with me,
- 18:36Speaker 1: we're the nineteen nineties peak life. I listed all the
- 18:39Speaker 1: fantastic movies and records that were released just in the
- 18:43Speaker 1: year of nineteen ninety four. Pretty incredible. The nineties were
- 18:47Speaker 1: peak life. Okay, you know where I stand on this.
- 18:49Speaker 1: When we're talking about movies and music exclusively, I'm not
- 18:52Speaker 1: talking about you know, social commentary or any politics, any
- 18:55Speaker 1: of that crap. The eight one six texted in on
- 18:58Speaker 1: this question. Eighties were a far better decade than the nineties.
- 19:02Speaker 1: The eighties were recovery from seventies inflation, gas lines, socialistic
- 19:07Speaker 1: government policies. Eighties eighties gave better music, better movies, MTV,
- 19:13Speaker 1: better thriving economy, sports with Larry Bird Jordan and Magic Johnson,
- 19:18Speaker 1: the eighty five Chicago Bears, forty nine Ers Dynasty, Wayne Gretzky,
- 19:21Speaker 1: John Candy, and Canadian humor. Canadian humor. The nineties wouldn't
- 19:26Speaker 1: have existed if the eighties hadn't paved the way. Okay, okay,
- 19:29Speaker 1: eight one six. A lot to unpack here. First of all,
- 19:33Speaker 1: of course, the nineties wouldn't have existed if the eighties
- 19:35Speaker 1: hadn't paved the way. You can say that about every
- 19:37Speaker 1: single decade. I do. I just came out at you
- 19:40Speaker 1: pretty harsh there, but I do I admire this take.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I think you're completely wrong. However, I do admire the
- 19:47Speaker 1: balls of somebody to text in and say that the
- 19:50Speaker 1: eighties of all decades, and you want to come back
- 19:52Speaker 1: with the sixties or the fifties or the odds. But
- 19:55Speaker 1: the eighties, even the seventies, I can't. I can't go
- 19:59Speaker 1: there with you. In the eighties, the eighties were a
- 20:01Speaker 1: recovery from seventies inflation. Who cares. We're talking about music
- 20:06Speaker 1: and movies. Now you mentioned MTV. I will give you that. Okay.
- 20:09Speaker 1: MTV was a shock to the culture. Okay, But nineteen
- 20:14Speaker 1: nineties MTV is better than nineteen eighties MTV. And you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: I'm right better thriving economy. Okay again, but we're talking
- 20:23Speaker 1: about music and records. You're talking about Larry Bird, Sports Jordan,
- 20:27Speaker 1: and Magic Johnson. Bird Johnson in the eighties hard to beat.
- 20:31Speaker 1: But you know what beats Bird Johnson in the eighties,
- 20:34Speaker 1: Michael Jordan in the nineties. And I say this as
- 20:36Speaker 1: a Boston Celtics fan. Okay, you say the eighty five
- 20:40Speaker 1: Chicago Bears, the forty nine Ers dynasty. Okay, I'll give
- 20:43Speaker 1: you that. Football wins in the eighties, eighties football definitely
- 20:46Speaker 1: better than the nineties football. Wayne Gretzky nick it's hockey man,
- 20:51Speaker 1: John Candy and Canadian humor. I'm not even I mean,
- 20:53Speaker 1: come on, come on, nineties Andrew Dice Clay, all that
- 20:57Speaker 1: great SNL that was going on in the nineties. Actually,
- 20:59Speaker 1: you know what, eighty stand up might have been better
- 21:02Speaker 1: than nineties stand up. That's a good question. Was eighty
- 21:05Speaker 1: stand up better than the nineties stand up? The nineties
- 21:07Speaker 1: wouldn't have existed if the eighties hadn't paved the way.
- 21:11Speaker 1: You might be right on that last point. I know
- 21:14Speaker 1: you're right, but overall, I can't go there with you.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I don't think you're there. But hey, I love I
- 21:21Speaker 1: love to take thank you prompted a good little conversation
- 21:24Speaker 1: there the eight to eight text in in regard to
- 21:26Speaker 1: ninety four versus twenty twenty four. One thing that's funny
- 21:30Speaker 1: to point out is that the Crow is in the
- 21:32Speaker 1: list of movies for both, though one is obviously superior.
- 21:36Speaker 1: To reinforce your view about the quality not being the same,
- 21:38Speaker 1: look over your list again. Ninety four are all at
- 21:41Speaker 1: the time original single standing films. Twenty twenty four are
- 21:45Speaker 1: mostly franchise slash reboots slash sequels, which is a fancy
- 21:48Speaker 1: way of saying they're retreads. Okay, good point. I can't
- 21:52Speaker 1: argue with any of that. You're making my point than
- 21:56Speaker 1: the nineties were better than the now when it comes
- 21:59Speaker 1: to film. Yeah, I didn't. I don't know that. I
- 22:02Speaker 1: don't know that I caught that they were the retreads.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I think I'm just so used to it now. Did
- 22:06Speaker 1: I saw this morning the remaking La Bamba? And the
- 22:08Speaker 1: writer director came out and said, why why are you
- 22:12Speaker 1: remaking La Bamba? And I gotta admit why. It's a
- 22:17Speaker 1: good point. Why are they remaking La Bamba? Did they
- 22:20Speaker 1: not say something in the original that they want to say? Now?
- 22:23Speaker 1: Can we find no other stories? Come on the seven
- 22:26Speaker 1: eight one? Hey, Jake, it's kel from the seven eight
- 22:29Speaker 1: to one about the nineties being peak life and noticing
- 22:32Speaker 1: the drop off from ninety four to twenty twenty four. Yes,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I've been noticing the last ten to fifteen years. It
- 22:37Speaker 1: just isn't any movie that I get excited about going
- 22:39Speaker 1: to see, except maybe the Second Joker coming in October.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I thought the first one was phenomenal and the music.
- 22:45Speaker 1: I mean, come on, the nineties was absolutely peak life.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And I think that's as jen xers. We are so
- 22:49Speaker 1: lucky to have grown up in the time that we did.
- 22:50Speaker 1: It's a different time. I know that definitely makes me
- 22:53Speaker 1: sound old, but it's so true. I don't feel old either,
- 22:56Speaker 1: rock the fuck on, she says. By the way, you've
- 22:58Speaker 1: read my text on air before, that was fucking awesome.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I told my daughters there's a lot of swears. Here's
- 23:03Speaker 1: a lot of swears. Seven eighty one. I'm editing them out.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I told my daughter that we're basically best friends now,
- 23:09Speaker 1: she said, Ma, you're delusional. That may be true. Your
- 23:12Speaker 1: daughter is right, She signs it. Talk to you later, bestie.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Seventy eight one. Thanks for the text, Keep them coming
- 23:18Speaker 1: listen seventy one. I get a little tip for you there.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I've found these on Instagram. I love them. They're these
- 23:23Speaker 1: little AI produced videos there, nostalgia pieces, and they're they're
- 23:28Speaker 1: just fantastic. They really drop you right in the middle
- 23:31Speaker 1: of the nineteen ninety so if you want your gen
- 23:33Speaker 1: X fix, seek those out. Seven one six texts in Hey,
- 23:38Speaker 1: just getting to the Hillsboro episode. Goosebumps and tears while
- 23:42Speaker 1: you read all the names and ages. Great decision making
- 23:45Speaker 1: with that choice, seven one six. Thank you very much.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I can't take credit for it. That wasn't my idea,
- 23:51Speaker 1: that said. I don't know whose idea it was. I
- 23:53Speaker 1: just know that it wasn't mine. But it was. It
- 23:55Speaker 1: was pretty effective in the production and that episode really
- 23:59Speaker 1: hit home for a lot of people. I appreciate that text.
- 24:02Speaker 1: You guys want to know what I'm talking about. It's
- 24:03Speaker 1: the Hillsboro episode on the Hillsborough disaster European football, European
- 24:07Speaker 1: soccer disaster that happened quite some time ago, a couple
- 24:12Speaker 1: of decades ago, and we really sat recently in the
- 24:15Speaker 1: feed and it's got an incredible reaction, and yeah, I
- 24:19Speaker 1: like hearing it. All Right, let's check out this voicemail
- 24:24Speaker 1: from Chad way up in British Columbia. Hey, Jake, it
- 24:28Speaker 1: is Chad calling from Yarrow, British Columbia. I don't know
- 24:33Speaker 1: if you've given any thought to doing an episode on Randy.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Blich or just Straceland leaves here from Lamb of God,
- 24:41Speaker 2: but I just listened to a podcast that's kind of
- 24:46Speaker 2: It's an.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Interview that goes through like you.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Know, this whole life, childhood, the origins is Lamb of
- 24:51Speaker 2: God and his origins.
- 24:53Speaker 1: And the you know, actually a huge punk rock fan.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I think one of his favorite fans Rains, which I
- 25:02Speaker 2: think there's an episode in there too, but maybe on
- 25:05Speaker 2: like a different.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Level to Straceland be underground or something, but the story
- 25:13Speaker 1: of Randy.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Blay is pretty crazy how he ends up being pancrafts
- 25:18Speaker 2: prison in the Czech Republic and bog two.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Years after somebody died taken a header.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Off the stage one of the shows.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It would probably be a really good episode.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Cool and I just saw them live and holy shit,
- 25:35Speaker 2: probably one of the best metal bands live I've ever seen.
- 25:41Speaker 1: So okay, take care, Okay, Chad, Lamb of God. Here's
- 25:45Speaker 1: the deal. I want to do this episode of Lamb
- 25:47Speaker 1: of God. People have been suggesting this from the beginning
- 25:49Speaker 1: of Disgraceland, but I got to tell you some of
- 25:54Speaker 1: it is a supreme bum out and I don't really
- 25:58Speaker 1: know how to treat this episode, but I am going
- 25:59Speaker 1: to do it at some time. You mentioned the Bad Brains.
- 26:01Speaker 1: I would love to do a Bad Brains episode as well.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I just showed my son, my oldest son, the Bad
- 26:06Speaker 1: Brains the CBGB set from I Believe It's New Year's
- 26:11Speaker 1: nineteen eighty two. His mind was completely blown. I fucked
- 26:17Speaker 1: up though I showed him Bad Brains before I showed
- 26:19Speaker 1: him Nirvana. You know I should have eased into Bad Brains.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Shows you how much I think about this stuff. I don't.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It was on a whim okay, popped up on YouTube.
- 26:28Speaker 1: There it was. I hit play. All right, don't blame
- 26:31Speaker 1: me six one seven nine oh six six six three
- 26:33Speaker 1: eight if you won't blame me for anything else, So
- 26:35Speaker 1: leave me a voicemail, send me a text. Also, I
- 26:38Speaker 1: can be reached, as you know, at disgracelam pod on
- 26:40Speaker 1: the socials and you can also email me Disgrace lampod
- 26:44Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. I'll be back in just a flash.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm going to read some emails from you guys. All right, guys,
- 27:02Speaker 1: we are back to Gracelandpod at gmail dot com. You
- 27:04Speaker 1: want to send me an email, You guys like the
- 27:05Speaker 1: long form, you like to type, you like to get
- 27:07Speaker 1: the letters going, the old school letter writing. I'm here
- 27:10Speaker 1: for just gracelandpod at gmail dot com. This one comes
- 27:13Speaker 1: from Miles Fisher subject John Coltrane message. Hey man, absolutely
- 27:19Speaker 1: love you show, but I must know when is the
- 27:21Speaker 1: John Coltrade episode episodes coming? I know it will be killing. Also,
- 27:27Speaker 1: a felonious Monk episode would be great. That was definitely
- 27:30Speaker 1: a disgrace dying in a mental hospital and all. Thanks
- 27:33Speaker 1: for your show, hey, Miles Fisher, Thank you. Here's my
- 27:37Speaker 1: thoughts on John Coltrane. Of all the music I listened
- 27:41Speaker 1: to in the course of my life, I have probably
- 27:43Speaker 1: listened to more John Coltrane than any other artist. I
- 27:47Speaker 1: listened to him, I believe daily still and have. Every
- 27:52Speaker 1: time I get a Spotify wrapped, it's John Coltrane at
- 27:55Speaker 1: the top of the list. But here's the thing. I
- 27:58Speaker 1: know very little about John Cole and I think I
- 28:01Speaker 1: do this on purpose to protect myself. I think I
- 28:03Speaker 1: don't want to know. I think I like the mystery.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think I like that I have nothing to really
- 28:08Speaker 1: go on besides the records that I have, even though
- 28:11Speaker 1: I listen to them on Spotify, I still just listen
- 28:13Speaker 1: to the records that I have, the vinylague that will
- 28:16Speaker 1: be Blue Train, Giant Steps, Ballads, Love Supreme, the record
- 28:23Speaker 1: he did with Monk. Trying to think of what else
- 28:25Speaker 1: I have by Coltrain. I think that's about it. I
- 28:28Speaker 1: know more about Miles Davis because we did a Miles
- 28:30Speaker 1: Davis episode. We did two episodes on Miles Davis. There
- 28:32Speaker 1: are two of my favorite episodes. By the way, those
- 28:35Speaker 1: are available for you in the archive. Miles if you
- 28:37Speaker 1: want to check those out. Also got an episode on
- 28:39Speaker 1: Billie Holliday, who else from the jazz world? A couple
- 28:42Speaker 1: others that are escaping me right now. But Miles, I
- 28:47Speaker 1: didn't know if Thelni's Monk died in a mental hospital.
- 28:50Speaker 1: That is some sad shit. So maybe I'll do a
- 28:53Speaker 1: monk episode first, and maybe someday I will be inspired
- 28:56Speaker 1: to break the seal and do a cold train episode.
- 28:58Speaker 1: But I like the mystery. I don't want to give up. Okay,
- 29:01Speaker 1: all right, This email Mike Nutt. That's his name, Mike Nutt,
- 29:06Speaker 1: subject possible episode. Hey message, love your podcast, huge fan.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'm a slightly new listener within the last year. I've
- 29:12Speaker 1: listened to a lot. I love them all. I love music,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I love singing. I have no professional background besides some
- 29:16Speaker 1: distant family that was in the opera. However, I feel
- 29:19Speaker 1: I have great instincts when it comes to music and voices,
- 29:21Speaker 1: and I can feel it in my soul. So there
- 29:22Speaker 1: are many recommendations in my mind. However, this is a
- 29:25Speaker 1: triple threat that could turn into a three part series.
- 29:27Speaker 1: It ties into three episodes, starting with the group Guy Look.
- 29:30Speaker 1: They were brief but awesome. They started the New Jack
- 29:33Speaker 1: Swing sound in the late nineteen eighties. These guys are
- 29:36Speaker 1: responsible for some of the greatest artists and albums of
- 29:38Speaker 1: the eighties and the nineties, at the likes of Michael
- 29:40Speaker 1: and Janet. There is so much more to say, but
- 29:42Speaker 1: you will find out Number two bouncing off of that
- 29:44Speaker 1: New Edition who Guy competed with got into a fight
- 29:47Speaker 1: with at a concert, but was also influenced by guys
- 29:49Speaker 1: New Jack Swing sound? So much more there with Bobby
- 29:52Speaker 1: Brown and how the band got screwed over by multiple
- 29:54Speaker 1: labels and three boys to men whose name came from
- 29:58Speaker 1: New Edition. The crazy stories of them are too with
- 30:00Speaker 1: a bad member leaving and they're still continuing their legacy.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Would love to hear your feedback on these Have a
- 30:05Speaker 1: great day. How have I never heard of Guy g
- 30:07Speaker 1: u Y? How have I never heard of Guy being
- 30:10Speaker 1: at the start at the the the atoms splitting at
- 30:15Speaker 1: the big bang of New Jack Swing? How do I
- 30:17Speaker 1: not I've never heard this name before? That's why I
- 30:20Speaker 1: love you guys. You're turning me on to stuff. You
- 30:22Speaker 1: were keeping me curious when it comes to music, and
- 30:25Speaker 1: that is not easy to do. You probably know this,
- 30:29Speaker 1: Maybe you don't, Mike Nutt, but You probably know that
- 30:32Speaker 1: we did a Bobby Brown episode this year, came out
- 30:34Speaker 1: a couple episodes ago. That's in the archive. You can
- 30:36Speaker 1: check that out. In the meantime, I will consider this.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna check out Guy. You know, I'm gonna do
- 30:41Speaker 1: have a listen to Guy first tonight when I'm picking
- 30:44Speaker 1: up cleaning my room, you know, getting ready to go
- 30:46Speaker 1: to bed. I clean before I go to bed. How
- 30:48Speaker 1: does that make any sense? I should clean earlier, right,
- 30:50Speaker 1: But I'm gonna put Guy on. And if it's you know,
- 30:54Speaker 1: if I'm into it, if I'm compelled, I'll get back
- 30:56Speaker 1: to you. Get back to me disgrace and pod at
- 30:58Speaker 1: gmail dot com. Just like Jamie Griffiths, I want to
- 31:01Speaker 1: do one more email here, trying to be better about
- 31:02Speaker 1: these emails. Jamie Griffiths rites in uh suggestions. Hank Williams three,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Queens of the Stone Age, the Bronx, Jesse Dayton, Mark Lanagan,
- 31:13Speaker 1: Tom Waits, Lemmy and Mike Ness. Okay, I'm going to
- 31:17Speaker 1: go in order here. Hank Williams three. I love this.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I love this. I love this, and I should do
- 31:24Speaker 1: Hank Williams two because I've already done Hank Williams one.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I should do Hank Wiams two. Then I should do
- 31:28Speaker 1: Hank Williams three. Queens of the Stone Age. Uh, that
- 31:33Speaker 1: one feels a little a little uh, it feels a
- 31:36Speaker 1: little too recent. I know you're probably talking about the
- 31:40Speaker 1: Nick era. I don't know what's there, but for your
- 31:45Speaker 1: own entertainment here, Jamie, you know Josh from Queens of
- 31:49Speaker 1: the Stone Age. He's plays a pretty significant role in
- 31:52Speaker 1: our Anthony Bourdain episode. I invite you to check that out.
- 31:55Speaker 1: The Bronx. What are we talking about with the Bronx?
- 32:00Speaker 1: What crimes are they? Are there any there at all?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Jesse Dayton, same question. I knew Jesse back in the day,
- 32:07Speaker 1: played with him before. Mark Lanagan, totally hear you there,
- 32:10Speaker 1: Tom Waits, that would be fantastic, don't I don't know
- 32:13Speaker 1: what's there for crime, but I know there is some
- 32:15Speaker 1: wild living and just sonically, I know we could do
- 32:18Speaker 1: something really cool with it.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Let me.
- 32:19Speaker 1: We just released an all access episode of Motorhead, so
- 32:23Speaker 1: if you're a Patreon or Apple podcast subscriber you can
- 32:26Speaker 1: hear that. Lemmy episode and Mike Ness Yeah love Social Distortion.
- 32:32Speaker 1: That's a band I don't listen to enough band. I
- 32:34Speaker 1: really like that. I don't listen to enough. I will.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I will look into all of these that you've mentioned here,
- 32:38Speaker 1: except the ones that I don't want to look into,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and those being the more recent ones Queens of the
- 32:43Speaker 1: Stone Age in particular, and Jesse Dayton and let's get
- 32:46Speaker 1: back to me, Jamie, get back to me. Let me
- 32:48Speaker 1: know if there's something I'm missing with those guys.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Guys.

- 34:17Speaker 1: don't feel my age until my twelve year old starts
- 34:19Speaker 1: talking his lingo to me. How about an episode on
- 34:22Speaker 1: The Lost Boys or The Two Coreys, thanks for getting
- 34:24Speaker 1: me through my boring workdays, Sarah Hunter, you got it.
- 34:28Speaker 1: The Lost Boys that's interesting, but the two Corey's is

- 35:50Speaker 1: But before I do, before next week's episode on the
- 35:53Speaker 1: NFL's Criminal Origins, there will be a rewind episode from
- 35:56Speaker 1: our archive popping up in your feeds, and guys, before that,
- 36:00Speaker 1: have you heard the news I think you have. Oasis
- 36:03Speaker 1: is getting back together. Tickets are about to go on
- 36:06Speaker 1: sale for the UK shows? Who is going? Are they
- 36:08Speaker 1: going to be US shows? Announced? What do you think?
- 36:11Speaker 1: I'm on the fence. Part of me really really really
- 36:13Speaker 1: wants to see them across the pond, but then another
- 36:16Speaker 1: part of me doesn't want to duel out the cash,
- 36:18Speaker 1: wants to wait for the US dates. But can we
- 36:20Speaker 1: be sure that they are even going to be US states?
- 36:23Speaker 1: What do you know? Do you guys know stuff? Do
- 36:24Speaker 1: you know things that I don't know? Let me know. Okay,
- 36:26Speaker 1: of course my kids want to go now as well
- 36:28Speaker 1: my wife obviously, So this is likely going to be
- 36:31Speaker 1: a family affair UK listeners, which city do I want
- 36:34Speaker 1: to go see Oasis in? All right? I'm okay with
- 36:37Speaker 1: not doing London. I've done London a bunch been there enough.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Let me know at disgrace slam Pods six seven nine
- 36:43Speaker 1: six six six three eight, where should we go see
- 36:46Speaker 1: the oasis? If we go at all? Or do we
- 36:49Speaker 1: wait for us dates to be announced? Anyways, rewind episode
- 36:52Speaker 1: coming your way next to the feed and you can
- 36:54Speaker 1: guess which band from the archive this is going to
- 36:55Speaker 1: be on. I know you can. So speaking of archives
- 36:58Speaker 1: we mentioned, we mentioned a lot Bobby Brown, a bunch
- 37:01Speaker 1: of others from the archive. We also mentioned the Rolling
- 37:04Speaker 1: Stones in this episode. We have a ton of Stones apps.
- 37:06Speaker 1: But if we're talking I can't get no satisfaction rolling
- 37:09Speaker 1: Stones and we were talking about the Rolling Stones. Part
- 37:11Speaker 1: one episode of Disgraceland released on June twenty third, twenty twenty.
- 37:15Speaker 1: That's episode number sixty and that episode deals with the
- 37:18Speaker 1: Stones in Swinging London, bona fide prison break in some
- 37:22Speaker 1: East End Gangster's. Part two is episode sixty one. Obviously,
- 37:25Speaker 1: that was released on June thirtieth. That one gets into
- 37:27Speaker 1: the first big bust I don't know if it wasn't
- 37:30Speaker 1: the first bus, but it gets into the big red
- 37:32Speaker 1: Lands bus that the Rolling Stones were part of. And
- 37:35Speaker 1: Princess Margaret is in this episode. This is Jewel Heist,
- 37:38Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff. Love these episodes. I hope you
- 37:41Speaker 1: revisit them. We also talked about the Hank Williams episode
- 37:43Speaker 1: that's in the archive as well. Who else we talked
- 37:45Speaker 1: about Madonna, Amy Winehouse. We highlighted those archive episodes recently,
- 37:49Speaker 1: so not going to give them the info here. You
- 37:51Speaker 1: guys know where to find them. Just know they're in
- 37:53Speaker 1: the archive if you want them. We talk college rock
- 37:56Speaker 1: and alternative music in the all access portion of this
- 37:58Speaker 1: episode here, and of course genres didn't unfold the way
- 38:01Speaker 1: that they did, we likely wouldn't have had Nirvana, And
- 38:05Speaker 1: we of course covered Nirvana in episodes twenty five and
- 38:07Speaker 1: twenty six back in March of twenty nineteen, so give
- 38:11Speaker 1: those episodes a listen if you have not already. All Right,
- 38:13Speaker 1: that brings us to nearly an end, folks, So let's recap,
- 38:16Speaker 1: shall we? Number one right now in your feed? A
- 38:18Speaker 1: brand new episode on Lana del Rey. Number two coming tomorrow,
- 38:21Speaker 1: A special rewind episode from our archive, and we were
- 38:24Speaker 1: talking about the gangster origins of the NFL in next
- 38:26Speaker 1: week's episode. So I want to know from you guys,
- 38:28Speaker 1: who is the most disgraceful athlete of all time? And
- 38:33Speaker 1: why what do they do? Let me know? Number three
- 38:35Speaker 1: merch Winners, get in touch. You know who you are.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Number four. Remember no one cares about great storytelling more
- 38:40Speaker 1: than you do. And well that's a disgrace, all right.
- 38:43Speaker 1: In honor of the subject of our most recent episode,
- 38:46Speaker 1: Lana del Rey, celebrating a birthday recently, we give to
