- 0:00Speaker 1: You're list scenes KF I am six forty the Bill
- 0:03Speaker 1: Handles show on demand on the iheartradiop tell me I
- 0:08Speaker 1: you that I am six forty Bill handle here. Good
- 0:17Speaker 1: morning on a Taco Tuesday, February third. Some of the stories.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We are looking at the Artemis two spacecraft. It has
- 0:25Speaker 1: been delayed in launching with five well, they were going
- 0:28Speaker 1: to do a super duper end of the world test
- 0:31Speaker 1: on it and it didn't go off. And we've been
- 0:33Speaker 1: covering this this morning and it's became really a weird
- 0:36Speaker 1: story and obviously a national story because of who Savannah
- 0:40Speaker 1: Guthrie is. She's a host of Today, she's an anchor.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Her mom was abducted from her Arizona home. Her mother,
- 0:48Speaker 1: it is a crime scene. It doesn't look good. Sheriff's
- 0:50Speaker 1: department is scrambling to find out who did it. They
- 0:56Speaker 1: I don't think she's alive because they said it was
- 0:58Speaker 1: a crime scene, that she doesn't have dementi issues, and the.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Way he described it, the sheriff described.
- 1:03Speaker 1: The same good news okay, yesterday reasonably good news. I
- 1:07Speaker 1: guess if you're a friend or a fan of Karen Bass.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And she delivered the first of two planned State of
- 1:14Speaker 1: the City speeches. She announces a new Clean Streets initiative
- 1:19Speaker 1: to accelerate the be at the beautification of the city.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Four hundred homes under construction and Pacific Palisades hundreds more
- 1:28Speaker 1: are approved. She and this is the part that I love.
- 1:32Speaker 1: This is political speak at its best. The main theme
- 1:36Speaker 1: of her speech is we Angelino's must come together ahead
- 1:41Speaker 1: of the twenty twenty eight Olympics.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We all have to get along.
- 1:46Speaker 1: She was a big fan of Rodney King, clearly, and
- 1:50Speaker 1: was thinking about him as she discussed what we have
- 1:53Speaker 1: to do in the city. We've got to get along,
- 1:56Speaker 1: all of us. Okay, thank you.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And then keeping with that theme, both UCLA and USC
- 2:04Speaker 1: marching bands played and they broke out in fistfight right afterwards.
- 2:09Speaker 1: The theme of unity as we prepare to host the
- 2:12Speaker 1: World Cup, the Olympics, the Paralympic Games, the Super Bowl,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I mean, that's going to be a lot of stuff
- 2:17Speaker 1: coming to California, and we have to unite in the
- 2:20Speaker 1: face of immigration raids just before we get picked up,
- 2:24Speaker 1: the homelessness crisis, the problems of the fires, I mean
- 2:29Speaker 1: goes on and on, and she said, even in this
- 2:33Speaker 1: difficult chapter in our history, great events, moments of unity
- 2:36Speaker 1: are possible, and they are coming. Okay, fair enough, Now,
- 2:41Speaker 1: a couple of interesting side notes here. Casey Wasserman, who
- 2:45Speaker 1: is the chair of the LA twenty eight Olympics Olympics
- 2:49Speaker 1: organized can come in.
- 2:50Speaker 2: He was putting it together here.
- 2:52Speaker 1: There's a whole group of emails between him and Jeffrey Epstein,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and Wasserman said, I'm terribly sorry for having any association
- 3:02Speaker 1: with either of them, as Julaane Maxwell as well as
- 3:05Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein, And he said the emails were exchanged long
- 3:10Speaker 1: before her horrific crimes came to light. That's Maxwell and
- 3:14Speaker 1: so Bass's signature program inside Safe, she focuses on.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Cleaning up the encampments.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Also a new clean streets initiative called dubbed dubbed Clean Corridors.
- 3:27Speaker 1: As see, I would have just called it clean streets.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But then again, I'm not on her. I'm not on
- 3:33Speaker 1: her team at that point, and she would accelerate be
- 3:37Speaker 1: beautification is she's trying to make someone, Oh that that
- 3:40Speaker 1: is beatification when you become a saint.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Got it?
- 3:44Speaker 1: That, by the way, was a joke about how she
- 3:47Speaker 1: perceives herself and she says we're also going to crack
- 3:51Speaker 1: down on illegal dumping, people who cut corners, disposal fees,
- 3:55Speaker 1: leave messes for workers and neighbors to deal with. Ten
- 4:00Speaker 1: she announces one hundred free watch parties during the World
- 4:03Speaker 1: Cup throughout the city. Now, a free watch party, I'm
- 4:07Speaker 1: assuming is they put up giant screens where thousands of
- 4:12Speaker 1: people get together. You know, we're in deficit. Okay, we
- 4:16Speaker 1: are seriously in deficit. So what is the cost of
- 4:19Speaker 1: putting up a giant screen, having the portable toilets there,
- 4:24Speaker 1: the police presence, the overtime, they have to pay for security.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Also, people can watch the World Cup.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Grab any thousand people that are there do none of
- 4:33Speaker 1: them have friends that have a TV at home?
- 4:37Speaker 2: None of them.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Also, the mayor talked about the immigration raids, spoke about
- 4:43Speaker 1: the Palisades fire and how terrific the city is dealing
- 4:47Speaker 1: with it, and she said, we're not just rebuilding, We
- 4:50Speaker 1: are real rebuilding smarter and faster and safer, and families
- 4:55Speaker 1: are returning home.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Put this in light of what President Trump said a
- 5:01Speaker 1: week ago when he said that he's criticized the city's
- 5:05Speaker 1: rebuild for going too slowly and he would preempt its
- 5:08Speaker 1: ability for issuing permits to people rebuilding the Palisades fire.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And so the President, well, he did another good one
- 5:17Speaker 1: because he wants to redo the election of the state,
- 5:20Speaker 1: so the election cycle and nationally he wants the federal
- 5:24Speaker 1: government to do that by executive order. And here is
- 5:27Speaker 1: something that's very little covered is that the President, having
- 5:30Speaker 1: once traveled in southern California motorcade at the corner of
- 5:35Speaker 1: Sunset La Sienega, by executive order, he has said that the.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Red light goes on too long.
- 5:43Speaker 1: So by executive order, he is now ordering that the
- 5:46Speaker 1: red light be limited to only thirty seconds. By the way,
- 5:52Speaker 1: if that's just a joke about how far he can
- 5:55Speaker 1: go by executive order, see Amy, I always have to
- 5:58Speaker 1: throw something in, don't I always help you?
- 6:01Speaker 2: I cannot help myself. It is genetic, it really is.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So last year, the mayor and the city council had
- 6:08Speaker 1: to close a one billion dollar budget shortfall, and so
- 6:12Speaker 1: layoffs to city workers were going to happen, and boy,
- 6:15Speaker 1: that produced a backlash, so the city avoided making the layoffs.
- 6:20Speaker 1: She turned around and went, Okay, we're not going to
- 6:21Speaker 1: do that. Cuts arrangements through city unions but we're looking
- 6:25Speaker 1: at another tough budget this year. She's up for election
- 6:31Speaker 1: in the June second election for a second term, and
- 6:35Speaker 1: she's going to deliver two State of the City speeches
- 6:37Speaker 1: within a three month span. And I am not a fan,
- 6:40Speaker 1: by the way, I am not a fan at all.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I mean I wish I had that Paul Caruso was elected.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I think it was done a much much better job.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Even if he tried to buy it. You can't in
- 6:53Speaker 1: this state. It's hard to buy elections, even when you
- 6:56Speaker 1: spend one hundred million dollars if you're not part of
- 6:59Speaker 1: the machinery. That's the democratic machinery. There's a saying as
- 7:02Speaker 1: a Republican machinery. I mean, Republicans don't exist legislatively and
- 7:06Speaker 1: elected officials unless you're in these tiny little congressional districts.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But you can't buck city hall when city hall is democratic.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I mean that is for those people that want a
- 7:18Speaker 1: true democracy, California is a tough way to go, not
- 7:23Speaker 1: because of many restrictions, it's because liberals live here. It's
- 7:27Speaker 1: that simple.
- 7:28Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Here was a weird one, and at first glance, you go,
- 7:32Speaker 1: come on, this is just plain old ordinary. Trump's stupidity
- 7:35Speaker 1: because there is a lot and one of the things
- 7:37Speaker 1: about the president and you know, I'm not a fan,
- 7:39Speaker 1: but he says pretty bombastic stuff.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I mean, he does go out of his way.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Now, is it because he's Donald Trump and goes out
- 7:46Speaker 1: of his way just because he likes doing that? Does
- 7:48Speaker 1: he likes stirring the pot? Is there a method to
- 7:51Speaker 1: the madness where he'll say something just out of balance
- 7:55Speaker 1: as far as negotiating tactics, because he certainly is doing
- 7:59Speaker 1: that with the caraffs man, everybody is spinning. All the
- 8:02Speaker 1: other countries, Well, we don't know, but here's one that
- 8:05Speaker 1: came down yesterday. He is on a podcast. Former FBI
- 8:12Speaker 1: director Dan Bongino has a podcast. He resigned from his
- 8:16Speaker 1: posts in December and returned to the podcasting. So Trump
- 8:19Speaker 1: is being interviewed, and they got into election, the election
- 8:24Speaker 1: fraud that happened, and Trump again alleged that non citizen
- 8:29Speaker 1: voting influenced the election outcomes and it was rigged based
- 8:34Speaker 1: on voting, the non citizen voting as well as election
- 8:39Speaker 1: officials lying and changing ballots, all of it to make
- 8:43Speaker 1: sure that he lost in twenty twenty. I mean, the
- 8:45Speaker 1: guy is obsessed fixated on bad elections. So he said,
- 8:50Speaker 1: so what we have to do is take over the elections,
- 8:55Speaker 1: nationalize the elections. We can't let the states do it
- 8:59Speaker 1: because it's rigged. And if we the Republicans, and he
- 9:04Speaker 1: specifically said the Republicans should nationalize and take over the elections.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Now, as ludicrous as its soulends go, it is kind
- 9:12Speaker 1: of stupid. It's a direct violation of Article one of
- 9:16Speaker 1: a constitution.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And I'll read that to you.
- 9:18Speaker 1: The time, places and manner of holding elections for senators
- 9:22Speaker 1: and representatives shall be prescribed in each state by the
- 9:25Speaker 1: legislatures thereof.
- 9:28Speaker 2: But Congress may at any time, by law.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Make or alter such regulations, except as to the places
- 9:34Speaker 1: of choosing senators. Well, I mean theoretically you can say, okay,
- 9:39Speaker 1: Congress can change that. Republicans control Congress, and now let's
- 9:42Speaker 1: go ahead and make sure that by executive order. I say,
- 9:47Speaker 1: we change it, even though it says Congress, but we
- 9:49Speaker 1: don't pay attention to Congress.
- 9:51Speaker 2: It's just an executive order. Will do it all. Okay. So,
- 9:55Speaker 2: assuming he does.
- 9:56Speaker 1: This, I have no idea if he's going to or not,
- 9:58Speaker 1: then of course it's going to go out and the
- 10:00Speaker 1: Supreme Court would have to rule saying, yes, the Article
- 10:04Speaker 1: one section doesn't apply, even though it says Congress specifically
- 10:08Speaker 1: has to do this and nobody else doesn't matter when
- 10:11Speaker 1: it comes to President Trump. That's what's happening with terrorists
- 10:13Speaker 1: right now, going up to the court. And so at
- 10:17Speaker 1: first they go, Okay, how stupid can this be? I mean,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you know, what's the court going to do. Well, here's
- 10:21Speaker 1: the scary part. And it's not even Donald Trump so much,
- 10:24Speaker 1: it's legislature and even the Supreme Court, because when by
- 10:28Speaker 1: executive order, President Trump issued a direct by a direct
- 10:36Speaker 1: order that birthright citizenship no longer exists. That Amendment fourteen
- 10:43Speaker 1: that says unequivocally, if you're born in the United States,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you are a citizen, period. And Trump is saying, that's
- 10:51Speaker 1: not really what it means. What it really means is
- 10:55Speaker 1: if you're born of a citizen or a legal resident,
- 10:58Speaker 1: then you are a citizen. And if you're born in the
- 11:00Speaker 1: United States, not if your parent is an illegal migrant. Okay,
- 11:05Speaker 1: doesn't say that in the Constitution. And here's the scary part.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The Supreme Court agreed to hear that case as opposed
- 11:12Speaker 1: to just saying, are you out of your mind? And deny,
- 11:15Speaker 1: Sir Chieri, deny a hearing simply based on the fact.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Wait a second, it's the Constitution that says it directly. Okay,
- 11:23Speaker 1: So here's another case if he signs it. And again
- 11:25Speaker 1: I don't know if it's bombaster or not. Even though
- 11:27Speaker 1: Article one says that Congress may change the rules, but
- 11:34Speaker 1: the court has expansively gone the other way. The courts
- 11:38Speaker 1: have said that it really the Congress really doesn't have
- 11:41Speaker 1: the power, and it is up to the states. The
- 11:44Speaker 1: states make all the decisions. But you know, it's kind
- 11:48Speaker 1: of interesting with the court here that one too. Would
- 11:53Speaker 1: the court say, Okay, now that the president has signed
- 11:56Speaker 1: that Republicans must control the elections and Republicans will choose
- 12:00Speaker 1: how they're run.
- 12:02Speaker 2: But where does this beef come from? Bill? He was
- 12:05Speaker 2: off because it was I'll tell you.
- 12:06Speaker 1: His beef is that the election was rigged in twenty twenty.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I don't know what the damages are.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Well, damages are he was elected legally in twenty twenty,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that the Joe Biden, the Joe Biden victory was rigged.
- 12:22Speaker 1: He should have been elected in twenty twenty, and he
- 12:26Speaker 1: is going back. They just raided the offices of Fulton
- 12:28Speaker 1: County Election Board, seven hundred boxes. The FBI went in
- 12:33Speaker 1: and picked up all those boxes to prove that the
- 12:36Speaker 1: election was rigged. And even Trump said, we're going to
- 12:39Speaker 1: sign find something very interesting here.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Okay, So let's say they find one.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Or two, because you only have millions of votes, and
- 12:48Speaker 1: you told me, with millions of anything, or certainly hundreds
- 12:52Speaker 1: of thousands, you're not going to find one or two anomalies.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Keep in mind that the attack on that election made
- 13:00Speaker 1: in front of sixty three judges after the twenty twenty election,
- 13:07Speaker 1: sixty three judges, Trump appointee, Supreme Court, Appellate Court, State Court,
- 13:13Speaker 1: Federal District Court.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Every single one.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Voted or ruled that the election was not rigged, and
- 13:20Speaker 1: Joe Biden did win the election. And in fact, even
- 13:23Speaker 1: if Joe Biden lost in Georgia, he still would have
- 13:27Speaker 1: won the election. So I don't know where Trump is
- 13:29Speaker 1: going with this, but his latest is we want to
- 13:33Speaker 1: remove Article one and make sure that Congress now nationalizes
- 13:39Speaker 1: the elections and Republicans do it. Maybe the Court is
- 13:43Speaker 1: going to say, yeah, we uphold President Trump's position that
- 13:47Speaker 1: Republicans must control the elections that Democrats, by law are
- 13:52Speaker 1: not able.
- 13:53Speaker 2: To even vote. I mean, where do you go with this?
- 13:56Speaker 1: No, obviously that's a little hyperbolic, but I gotta tell
- 14:00Speaker 1: you it's less hyperbolic than not or it's more hyperbolic
- 14:03Speaker 1: than it isn't or could have been a little confusing there.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah, Neil, it's yeah. You know, sometimes I
- 14:12Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. Sometimes I don't. Most of
- 14:15Speaker 1: the time I don't. But the reality is is, I mean,
- 14:18Speaker 1: what other president would ever say We're going to ignore
- 14:22Speaker 1: the Constitution completely and rewrite it. And the Supreme Court
- 14:26Speaker 1: is going to hear that. I mean, you want to
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's just it's craziness. Now, the Sheriff's department, well this
- 14:33Speaker 1: is typical, I mean, this is crazy typical stuff. And
- 14:37Speaker 1: the Sheriff's Department just released the figures of how much
- 14:40Speaker 1: money La County spent on legal payouts and lawyer's bills
- 14:47Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty nine dollars two hundred and twenty
- 14:49Speaker 1: nine million dollars. Half of that went to defend the
- 14:53Speaker 1: Sheriff's department lawsuits, particularly lawsuits, and a twelve percent uptick
- 14:58Speaker 1: from the year before. County spend ninety million dollars on
- 15:02Speaker 1: outside law firms, which it does all the time, all
- 15:05Speaker 1: the municipalities and county governments do, and the state government
- 15:08Speaker 1: does the same thing. Okay, So the sheriff's department was
- 15:12Speaker 1: the subject of a whole string of multimillion dollar settlements
- 15:15Speaker 1: accusing deputies of excessive force. If you look at the
- 15:19Speaker 1: eight costly settlements involving the county, six were the sheriff's department,
- 15:25Speaker 1: including a seven million dollar payout for a shooting in
- 15:28Speaker 1: a parking garage that left the man paralyzed, a seventeen
- 15:32Speaker 1: million dollar award for a car crash that involved a
- 15:37Speaker 1: deputy driving twice the speed there twice the speed limit.
- 15:41Speaker 1: A twenty five million dollars settlement that went to an
- 15:44Speaker 1: autistic man shot in his home. That one was in
- 15:47Speaker 1: March twenty twenty one. There was a nine to one
- 15:49Speaker 1: to one call for Isaiah Servantes, a deaf guy who
- 15:52Speaker 1: was in a mental health crisis. So his sister calls
- 15:56Speaker 1: asked the dispatcher if they can send someone out and
- 15:59Speaker 1: take him to the hospital because he had grown aggressive.
- 16:02Speaker 1: So here's a video and it shows deputies going into
- 16:05Speaker 1: the house where Servantes was on the couch seated, they
- 16:09Speaker 1: try to handcuff him. A struggle ensues and one of
- 16:12Speaker 1: the deputies said Servanda has tried to grab his gun
- 16:15Speaker 1: and the other deputies shot him, leaving him paralyzed. The
- 16:19Speaker 1: Sheriff's department said that that shooting did not violate the
- 16:23Speaker 1: use of force policies, which means nothing when you're in
- 16:27Speaker 1: front of a jury, and so I think politically in
- 16:32Speaker 1: this day and age, well, juries come down really hard.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Outside law firms continued to account for a significant chunk
- 16:42Speaker 1: of the legal spending. The amount spent on outside law
- 16:46Speaker 1: firms has gone up over the last forty years. Now,
- 16:50Speaker 1: all of this, by the way, when you talk about
- 16:52Speaker 1: the amount of money that was spent on these lawsuits
- 16:56Speaker 1: and defending the lawsuits and paying out these settlements, does
- 17:00Speaker 1: not even mention the nearly four point five billion dollars
- 17:05Speaker 1: the county agreed to pay to resolve thousands of claims
- 17:09Speaker 1: of sexual abuse in foster.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Homes and juvenile halls.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And that money will be paid out over five years
- 17:16Speaker 1: starting this year. That's a billion dollars a year that
- 17:21Speaker 1: the county has to pay.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Just add that to the budget.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And that was as a result of ab twenty eighteen,
- 17:28Speaker 1: a law that changed the statute of limitations for victims
- 17:32Speaker 1: they could sue over childhood sexual abuse, which means if
- 17:36Speaker 1: people women, particularly girls, So women now remember being abused
- 17:43Speaker 1: by a county facility twenty thirty, forty years ago. So
- 17:48Speaker 1: the county has been flooded with these lawsuits. The probation
- 17:51Speaker 1: department was served well two years ago, three hundred and
- 17:56Speaker 1: four lawsuits. This past year one thousand, nine and eighty
- 18:00Speaker 1: four lawsuits, and more and more are coming in.
- 18:05Speaker 2: So this is county government.
- 18:08Speaker 1: This is government in general, where anything that's done wrong,
- 18:11Speaker 1: anything immediately, is a lawsuit. Now, there are things that
- 18:14Speaker 1: are clearly crazy that governments can do. When police departments
- 18:19Speaker 1: do read Alex pretty in Minneapolis and Nicole Good. You know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I keep on mixing. Now I think her middle name
- 18:28Speaker 1: is Nicole, right, do I have that right? In any case,
- 18:31Speaker 1: she was shot and killed in her SUV and so
- 18:36Speaker 1: that one those I think.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Are pretty easy to determine who's at fault.
- 18:39Speaker 1: But you know, again, when in doubt and the city
- 18:42Speaker 1: or the county said we're not settling, when demands are
- 18:46Speaker 1: made are huge, you go in front of a jury
- 18:48Speaker 1: and you take your chances. And this is big time
- 18:51Speaker 1: problems for city county governments, and it's our tax.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Dollars at work.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Of course, Hey, here is a stat to eve an
- 18:59Speaker 1: idea of where the economy is and where you fit
- 19:03Speaker 1: in our economy. As of twenty twenty five, last year,
- 19:08Speaker 1: twenty seven percent of American workers had some form of
- 19:12Speaker 1: side income, a side hustle. Over a quarter of all
- 19:17Speaker 1: employed people had a side hustle. That's a tough one.
- 19:21Speaker 1: According to a bank Rate survey. Bank Rate the organization.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Now for a lot of these people, it was negligible.
- 19:29Speaker 1: In twenty twenty five, the median hustler earned two hundred
- 19:32Speaker 1: bucks a month.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Was nothing.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But if you think that income is too small for
- 19:38Speaker 1: the irs to bother with, oh you get to think again.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Why.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Because the agency that was part of the Inflation Reduction
- 19:47Speaker 1: Act of twenty twenty two, the agency modernized its operation,
- 19:52Speaker 1: expanded the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence, which
- 19:57Speaker 1: means that the taxman is now more of a teach
- 20:00Speaker 1: bought and no amount of income is too small for
- 20:04Speaker 1: this sophisticated kind of software. And if you're a freelance
- 20:11Speaker 1: or a gig worker, this is big problems for you.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Big changes.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Now you only have to report any side income above
- 20:19Speaker 1: four hundred dollars a year. Nobody makes only four hundred
- 20:23Speaker 1: dollars a year if you're a side if you're a
- 20:25Speaker 1: gig worker. And by the way, there's a broad definition
- 20:28Speaker 1: of gigwork sharing ride sharing apps, renting out a portion
- 20:33Speaker 1: of your property, selling items online, running errands. Even it's
- 20:39Speaker 1: all considered a side gig. And people are desperate. And
- 20:44Speaker 1: if you fail to report side income, the agency has
- 20:48Speaker 1: several ways to track it. The IRS receives tremendous amounts
- 20:51Speaker 1: of data from third party vendors, and I am doing
- 20:56Speaker 1: a commercial on Handle on the law about third party
- 21:00Speaker 1: vendors and how you can deal with that, and so
- 21:03Speaker 1: it all has to be reported, and they have access
- 21:07Speaker 1: to all of it. I mean Venmo and PayPal. Now
- 21:13Speaker 1: those are good news because you need more than two
- 21:15Speaker 1: hundred transactions and twenty thousand dollars in a single tax here.
- 21:19Speaker 2: So that's bestly the way to go.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Cash transactions also are a little a little bit more
- 21:26Speaker 1: difficult to track. But to give you an idea of
- 21:28Speaker 1: how difficult it is in terms of workers, the other
- 21:33Speaker 1: day I was at Walmart and I happened to pass
- 21:36Speaker 1: a training class for Walmart greeters.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And there it was.
- 21:43Speaker 1: The instructor was saying, so, here is how we greet Hi,
- 21:48Speaker 1: welcome to Walmart. No, you can say, hey, good morning,
- 21:52Speaker 1: welcome to Walmart. And it's also a question of where
- 21:58Speaker 1: the syllable is welcome to Walmart. No, no, no, welcome
- 22:02Speaker 1: to Walmart. Hi welcome. I mean, side gigs are really important.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And as that reported, you bet that is no matter what.
- 22:14Speaker 1: So here is what the IRS tells you to do.
- 22:17Speaker 1: First of all, track everything, report all income and expenses.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That's what a lot of people don't understand because if
- 22:24Speaker 1: you report income, and you can also report expenses because
- 22:28Speaker 1: it costs you money to sometimes get into side gigs.
- 22:34Speaker 1: For example, let's say you are buying a software that
- 22:38Speaker 1: allows you to sell, well, that's deductible, so any business
- 22:42Speaker 1: expense can be related to your gigwork. But here's the
- 22:45Speaker 1: bottom line. I'm going to say it again. The IRS.
- 22:49Speaker 1: And you hear these commercials about the IRS being brutal,
- 22:53Speaker 1: they are and the IRS has unlimited power. They do,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and they're going to who now tax every dime because
- 23:03Speaker 1: of AI. That's the bad news of AI. And side hustles. Again,
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna repeat that stat. A quarter of a million,
- 23:14Speaker 1: or a quarter of the entire working population engages in
- 23:17Speaker 1: side gigs. So I've got a practice. Welcome to KFI. No, no,
- 23:23Speaker 1: good morning, Welcome to KFI. No, no, good morning, Welcome
- 23:28Speaker 1: to KFI.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I'll get it, I'll get it all right.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Coming up Tech Tuesday with Rich tomorrow, and of course
- 23:37Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about the big game, the Super Bowl,
- 23:41Speaker 1: which you can only say if you're not selling a product.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And I've got some other topics to talk to Rich
- 23:47Speaker 1: about too. This is KFI AM six forty.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Catch my show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am,
- 23:57Speaker 1: and anytime on demand on the Iheartraateradio app
