- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's get back to the Mark Simone show on wo R. Well,
- 0:06Speaker 1: let's take some calls. Let's go to Greg and Jersey City. Greg,
- 0:10Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hey?
- 0:12Speaker 3: Doing good? I was down in Massey's district last week
- 0:15Speaker 3: because one of those Pizza Hut locations is right across
- 0:19Speaker 3: the river from downtown Cincinnati, and it's actually one franchisee
- 0:23Speaker 3: with those eighty locations. He had to get permission from
- 0:27Speaker 3: corporate to revert back to the old, you know, restaurant
- 0:30Speaker 3: style concepts.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So and was it crowded? Was it busy? Did people
- 0:34Speaker 1: love it?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Oh?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it was maybe like forty to fifty you know
- 0:40Speaker 3: parties in the rest. It was about seven o'clock at
- 0:42Speaker 3: night at a time. And yeah, I mean it'll be
- 0:47Speaker 3: the seat remains to be seen if other franchisees within
- 0:51Speaker 3: Pizza Hut will adopt the concept, because, like I say,
- 0:56Speaker 3: it's just one guy, and.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a test r All right, good point, Greg,
- 1:01Speaker 1: But remember it's usually the local franchisee that comes up
- 1:04Speaker 1: with everything. You know, McDonald's spends a fortune every year
- 1:07Speaker 1: research and development. They've got a test kitchen where they
- 1:10Speaker 1: try to come up with things. In about fifty years
- 1:14Speaker 1: they never came up with anything that worked. In fact,
- 1:16Speaker 1: everything they came up with it was a disaster, like
- 1:19Speaker 1: the McLean or the McRib or that sort of stuff.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It was the local franchises that a local franchise guy
- 1:26Speaker 1: came up with the Big Mac, a local franchise gate
- 1:29Speaker 1: guy came up with the fish sandwich. Every great thing
- 1:34Speaker 1: invented by a franchise. Hey, by the way, try the
- 1:36Speaker 1: Big Arch. That's their new big juicy burger. Very good.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's better than the Big Mac. Try it. Let's go
- 1:43Speaker 1: to Terry in Connecticut. Terry, how you doing.
- 1:46Speaker 5: I'm John Well, thank you. Rotching. The commenced with at
- 1:51Speaker 5: the Coastguard Academy and a couple of people who fainted.
- 1:54Speaker 1: But anyway, today in grotten President Trump is there for
- 1:59Speaker 1: the Coast Guard graduation.
- 2:00Speaker 3: You were there, No, I'm watching it on TV.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Oh and people are fainting.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah, they were a boy than two and they had
- 2:09Speaker 5: paramedics because it's so hot. Oh, while they were waiting,
- 2:13Speaker 5: they fainted.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But anyway, these are Coastguard, the guys are they.
- 2:19Speaker 5: No?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Oh?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Good, well bystanders, okay, good.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We don't want to Coastguard the faints. Yeah, go ahead.
- 2:26Speaker 5: But Anyway, the second thing I wanted to ask you,
- 2:29Speaker 5: did Stephen Colbert have an appendicitis attack on TV at
- 2:33Speaker 5: one time?
- 2:35Speaker 1: I don't know, but you know, with that angry skull
- 2:37Speaker 1: in his face, you could never tell who knows with him,
- 2:39Speaker 1: he always looks like he's having an attack.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Well, that's what it said. He was doing a segment
- 2:45Speaker 5: and he had to be rushed to the hospital because
- 2:47Speaker 5: he had an appendicitis attack.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Oh well, that's terrible. We don't want to see that
- 2:51Speaker 1: happening anybody even.
- 2:52Speaker 5: But that's all I wanted to say. Thank you, all.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Right, thanks for calling. Yeah, the President going to Grotten
- 2:56Speaker 1: Connecticut for the Coastguard graduation he's doing at right now,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and then he goes to Rockland County for another graduation.
- 3:06Speaker 1: He's traveling around all day to day. I don't know
- 3:10Speaker 1: where he's you know, mar A Lagos now closed for
- 3:12Speaker 1: the season, closes till about Halloween. So he used to
- 3:17Speaker 1: go to Bedminster in the summer in New Jersey stay there.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But he's got a beautiful golf course right outside of Washington,
- 3:23Speaker 1: d c. In in the suburbs in Virginia, so he's
- 3:26Speaker 1: been using that a lot on the weekend. Let's go
- 3:28Speaker 1: to Paul in white Stone, Paul, how you doing?
- 3:32Speaker 6: Hey, Mark Brooklyn, congresswoman of that clock, had a very
- 3:34Speaker 6: memorable experience on Colbert one time, and I hope he
- 3:38Speaker 6: brings her back for the last show. They were talking
- 3:40Speaker 6: about when Brooklyn joined the City of New York in
- 3:43Speaker 6: eighteen ninety eight, and he said, if you could go
- 3:46Speaker 6: back to that time, what would you say to your constituents.
- 3:49Speaker 6: She said, let my people go? And people left. And
- 3:53Speaker 6: Colbert said what people? She said, the slaves. Colbert said,
- 3:57Speaker 6: there were slaves in Brooklyn in eighteen ninety eight. She
- 4:00Speaker 6: said yeah. He said who was holding them in slavery?
- 4:03Speaker 6: She said the Dutch. So she thought the Dutch controlled
- 4:08Speaker 6: Brooklyn in eighteen ninety eight, I still had slaves. Complete.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Well, that's a good thing about being a Democrat, or
- 4:14Speaker 1: having Trump arrangement syndrome. Whatever you heard on Morning Shoe
- 4:17Speaker 1: good enough for me. I'll repeat it. I'll just repeat it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: From the Russia hoax to all that crap. Well, let's
- 4:22Speaker 1: go to Jim in New Jersey, Jim, how you doing?
- 4:26Speaker 4: Adler was the second richest man in the world at
- 4:29Speaker 4: one time. Who was who was Henry Flagler? Flagler, Florida.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Everything in pond what he named after Flagler. Wait, Slow down,
- 4:38Speaker 1: slow down, Take a breath, Take a breath, relaxed, calm down,
- 4:43Speaker 1: slow the mark.
- 4:45Speaker 4: What he did was incredible to turn in the last century.
- 4:48Speaker 4: He built a railroad from Miami to Key West. It
- 4:52Speaker 4: took him thirteen years he lived to see it completed,
- 4:55Speaker 4: and it was great. You could take the train from
- 4:57Speaker 4: New York to Key West. Unfortunately, by the time the
- 4:59Speaker 4: third the automobile was coming around, so nobody was taking
- 5:02Speaker 4: the train. And the final coup de katar. You can
- 5:05Speaker 4: see it in that great movie Key Largo with Bogart
- 5:08Speaker 4: Edward g Robinson. There's a scene where Nald Barrymore is
- 5:12Speaker 4: scaring Edward g Robinson because her hurricane is hitting the hotel,
- 5:17Speaker 4: and he describes the Labor Day Hurricane in nineteen thirty five,
- 5:20Speaker 4: which was the most powerful hurricane that ever hit the
- 5:23Speaker 4: United States.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You were just filmed relief information, pretty good relief. All right, Well,
- 5:28Speaker 1: thanks for calling problem with that train. As you end
- 5:30Speaker 1: up in Key West, I guess that's okay down there
- 5:35Speaker 1: in Key West, but it's a scary drive. You go
- 5:37Speaker 1: over that bridge that's over the water for like Miles
- 5:40Speaker 1: very scary. Let's go to Vincent and Brooklyn. Vincent, how
- 5:44Speaker 1: you doing.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Good morning Mark, Good morning Mara. Speaking about when Brooklyn
- 5:49Speaker 2: was its own city about fifty years ago, I dated
- 5:53Speaker 2: a girl who was living in the Brooklyn in the
- 5:57Speaker 2: house of the Brooklyn Mayor. Quite a mansion. Well, anyway,
- 6:01Speaker 2: speaking about nostalgia, Mark, last year, when I was in Italy,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I'm in an area that's touristy, and these two Japanese
- 6:10Speaker 2: kids come up to me, and I said, what's this
- 6:14Speaker 2: all about? They come up to me and aison look
- 6:17Speaker 2: at maybe eighteen nineteen, and they had a modern polaroid
- 6:21Speaker 2: camera in there and it was like candy apple, lime,
- 6:25Speaker 2: green and white. It was all made out of plastic.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And they said to me, could you take a picture
- 6:31Speaker 2: of us? And they had iPhones hanging from their wrist.
- 6:36Speaker 1: That I'm saying, well, you know, that's another part of
- 6:38Speaker 1: this nostalgia trend they started bringing. They brought back polaroid
- 6:41Speaker 1: cameras a few years ago. A lot of kids are
- 6:43Speaker 1: using now. The only advantage of the polaroid camera you
- 6:45Speaker 1: might want to take note of this is if you
- 6:47Speaker 1: need to take a picture and you don't want it digital,
- 6:50Speaker 1: because if it's on your phone, it's there forever and
- 6:53Speaker 1: if you want to hand the picture to somebody that way,
- 6:54Speaker 1: it was never transmitted digitally, nobody can find a trace
- 6:58Speaker 1: of it might be useful for you.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And another thing mark in Rome, what they discovered in
- 7:03Speaker 2: the tourist area where all the tourist restaurants they actually
- 7:09Speaker 2: went back to, as you said, the red and white
- 7:13Speaker 2: gingham table clad with the Kianti bottle, with the candle
- 7:17Speaker 2: in the middle, because the people from the Midwest, in
- 7:21Speaker 2: their mind's eye, that's what they imagine the Roman restaurants
- 7:26Speaker 2: is with the red and white check and table cloth
- 7:30Speaker 2: and with the Kiante bottle. The last time I went
- 7:33Speaker 2: to a restaurant like that in New York, I remember
- 7:36Speaker 2: it was in the village on off of Fort Street
- 7:39Speaker 2: and sixth Avenue. It was next to the Waverley. It
- 7:43Speaker 2: was called Emilio Skylight Gardens. That had to be maybe
- 7:48Speaker 2: even almost close to sixty.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yards I know, but those were great, those that kind
- 7:51Speaker 1: of place Don Draper would go, that's what you want.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah, the food was good.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Vincent, thanks for calling. Great call. It's
- 7:59Speaker 1: like going to Jimmy Weston's or Jilly's are one of
- 8:02Speaker 1: those places. Oh, when we come back and Colter we'll
- 8:06Speaker 1: be with us next. Lots to talk to her about
- 8:08Speaker 1: coming up on seven to ten wor
