Transcript
- 0:00Hello, there. It's time for most things
- 0:03Kenobi. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:19episode of most things Kenobi. A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi
- 0:22and all things Star Wars. I'm your host Lauren and I'm
- 0:26your host Leanne and this week, I am extremely happy.
- 0:30Ha ha ha. It's very going back to some and
- 0:34or stuff and I'm ready. I really didn't realize how much
- 0:38I missed the show until I was trying to find ya, what my
- 0:43favorite quotes are, which please you we'd have to do a
- 0:46five part series. He's to cover all of them for
- 0:48real, honestly, I feel like they just the whole script.
- 0:52It's such a good script. I, this was hard to narrow it
- 0:57down to three. I just went with the top three
- 0:59that came to mind, but these are not by any means an exhaustive
- 1:03list. Well, I think we could all agree
- 1:07before we get into these that Lutheran's monologue his speech,
- 1:12you know, the one. Oh yes!
- 1:15That one is the my favorite Yeah.
- 1:19And we're actually just going to skip that one, just because it's
- 1:24the top tier of top - of top greatness of all and or
- 1:30greatness everything all at once in one monologue and it's
- 1:34Lutheran's. So we're going to, we're going
- 1:38to shelve that one because that's the obvious implied best
- 1:42quote. These quotes would not be the
- 1:47same. Same if different actors
- 1:49performed them, you know. I it's so funny.
- 1:52You say that because as I was researching like, which one am I
- 1:55actually going to choose? It really hit me.
- 2:00The performance is what drives this writing.
- 2:04Yeah. And yes any other person, it
- 2:08wouldn't have had as much impact.
- 2:09I really, truly believe that. Yeah, I actually just listen to
- 2:13an interview with Tony Gilroy recently because they were
- 2:16asked, they were asking him about writing and I just, you
- 2:18know, I eat that shit up. Hmm.
- 2:21Breakfast. And shit for breakfast.
- 2:26Pretty much. Just, tell me, everyone knows
- 2:28that reference that movie reference if I'm sorry.
- 2:30It sounds awful, Adam, Sam. I don't think I was going to.
- 2:34I don't think I know that. It's Happy Gilmore, Happy
- 2:38Gilmore. Oh my God.
- 2:40I would see that for such a long time.
- 2:42You know what's funny? Is I almost said happy Gilroy.
- 2:47Say think I'm just make it up movies now.
- 2:50Yeah, we are anyway. Oh, my goodness.
- 2:54Well, you have a saying that They had the first probably
- 2:59block done, which is like three episodes the first three
- 3:01episodes done and they were casting, they had their cast put
- 3:04together and then he was seeing like what they were doing with
- 3:08his script and he was like it made it easy.
- 3:11Then going forward to write for these actors because there's so
- 3:14skilled, I totally believe it. I totally believe it because
- 3:18wow, there's so many well-delivered lines at.
- 3:23Yes, there's also it's not just these are not just one liners.
- 3:26Hours. I had a line out of a giant
- 3:30scene or like monologue, you know, and pick the heart of
- 3:34that. Yeah.
- 3:35And why it meant something to me and yeah, it's just really, I
- 3:40actually have five I do. Well, I wrote the whole scenes
- 3:45out. So okay, so I've been, I will
- 3:49try and pick the three out of the five that I have here and if
- 3:52we have time, maybe we'll do honorable mentions.
- 3:54I don't know. It's just this whole show is
- 3:56just So fantastic. So, how did how did you organize
- 4:02yours? Are you going by like, what
- 4:03episode came first or like your favorite one?
- 4:06How did you categories? I mean, I went with the ones
- 4:10that I still remember and I remember them for a very
- 4:14touching moving reason. Yeah, I guess so, and then but
- 4:18like, I miss remember things, right?
- 4:20So I had to go and re-watch the scene or at least look up with
- 4:24the full quote was. So I don't misquote It and then
- 4:27I ended up watching these scenes over and I'm just like, this is
- 4:31so fucking good. And so I really just went with
- 4:36what I remembered because if you remember it, it's stuck out to
- 4:39you. Right?
- 4:41Right. Exactly.
- 4:41Well, I think we should probably do some Andorra re-watch.
- 4:46Probably. I think we should.
- 4:47I think it's necessary. It's needed after this, and
- 4:50it's, yeah, it's really a show that I can watch over and over
- 4:53and over same. And I think you would get
- 4:55something different out of it every time.
- 4:57And okay, so do you want to go first?
- 4:59You want to give your first quote said, well yes I'll go.
- 5:09I think, I'm not I guess of the ones.
- 5:13I wrote down besides Lutheran's speech, the one I have here is
- 5:18between Cassie and and Marva and it's probably my top one of my
- 5:23tops and it's Cassie and says I'll be worried about you all
- 5:26the time. Time and Marva says, that's just
- 5:29love. Nothing you can do about it.
- 5:32And literally have Goosebumps. Yeah but way she has the tears
- 5:38in her eyes that her shaking the quivering of her voice.
- 5:41Yeah. The fact that she's like
- 5:43subconsciously loving him for what he's saying and telling him
- 5:48it's okay. You know it's just that's a
- 5:52mother that's a mother's love and a son's worried like he's
- 5:56worried about her and he wants to take care of her and he
- 5:58doesn't want to leave her and the whole exchange is just
- 6:00beautiful. Honestly that's just I have
- 6:02nothing you can do about it. She says it's so
- 6:04matter-of-factly. So it's so practical.
- 6:06Like, let's just love. Nothing you can do about it, but
- 6:09there's so much more in it. And and this is where I want to
- 6:12highlight the fact that the delivery and the acting on this
- 6:16part is unmatched. Yes, she's able to convey so
- 6:20much pain and that bitter sweetness of being a parent.
- 6:25I've like, loving somebody so much that you're willing to let
- 6:28them go because that's what's best for that person.
- 6:31It's So hard and it's gutting. Yeah, I want to know how many
- 6:36takes they took on that one? Because if it was multiple
- 6:39fucking Kudos because it would be one of those scenes that
- 6:43would drain me if I had to do it more than once, but if they did
- 6:46it one time kudos to the nth degree because yeah that's
- 6:51that's some fucking skill. These people aren't they are top
- 6:54notch actors and actresses. They're all honestly to a tee
- 6:58too good for sir. We have stuff like a walking
- 7:05carpet, you know? And, and then we have this stuff
- 7:08from and or I mean, we love both for what they are.
- 7:12Yes, they're different. They're different entities
- 7:15completely. Yeah.
- 7:16And I like that, though. I like it.
- 7:18I like that YouTube, this actually is growing Star Wars.
- 7:21So that's why I always wanted to write fanfiction is because I
- 7:24wanted to like Elevate Star Wars.
- 7:26Not that Star Wars is not elevated because it's all As Lee
- 7:32we've done how many shows, you know all about this but I wanted
- 7:36to see like what it would be like if you took Star Wars and
- 7:41turned it into like classic literature and this is basically
- 7:44what it would be. This is like just AF ski or you
- 7:48know yes basically and or is if you turn Star Wars into
- 7:53something classical so yes. Yes.
- 7:56Well that's my first one out of this list.
- 7:59That's good. It's one of my favorite scenes
- 8:01in the I'll show ya. It really it stuck out to me and
- 8:05it had to be on this list. It's just, it's so it's just so
- 8:09good to me. Marva has a lot of good things
- 8:13to say. She's on my list three times.
- 8:15But I mostly, I we could do a whole episode just about Marva
- 8:19and here, amazing acting her missing dialogue, everything
- 8:23about her is I love. I love, Fiona Shaw with my whole
- 8:26heart. She really I she should know how
- 8:29much she's loved. I hope she does.
- 8:31So It's yours. My God.
- 8:33Oh, my, my first one is also a Cassie unquote.
- 8:36It's from the episode. The axe forgets.
- 8:39Hmm. And I've talked about all my
- 8:41quotes already in other episodes, but I'm going, I
- 8:44wanted to talk about them again because I want to, like, deep
- 8:46dive into it a little bit more. Yeah.
- 8:48So this is the one where they're on their way to L.E and skiing
- 8:54puts a knife to Cassie and throat and like, starts this
- 8:57little fight. Yes, this is, and it's such a
- 9:01great scene. And cerumen says, you think
- 9:04we're scared and casting says, I know you are and he says, of
- 9:09course, I'm afraid because they accuse him of being scared.
- 9:12And he says, of course, I'm afraid.
- 9:13But there's a difference between fear and losing your nerve.
- 9:17You want out of this. Make a choice.
- 9:19Don't use me as an excuse. I love that.
- 9:22It's brilliant. It's so brilliant.
- 9:24It, we discussed this before. That one of the reasons I love
- 9:27this scene is it doesn't go the way.
- 9:30Most people would write this seat.
- 9:32Right. It was usually turn into a
- 9:33pissing match but really what it what it really is showing and
- 9:37this is why I love casts Ian's character so much.
- 9:41It shows that yes he knows how to control his fear and he has
- 9:46since he was a child, you know, he lost his parents, his sister
- 9:51his adoptive parents. Like his father adopted father
- 9:54was murdered in front of him. He was sent to prison all of
- 9:58this shit taught him to control his But this also shows that he
- 10:05is really intelligent intuitive and perceptive, like he has a
- 10:10full understanding of everyone in this group, but never says it
- 10:13out loud unless he has to, yeah, they totally underestimate him.
- 10:17They think he doesn't, they don't know a thing about him
- 10:21because he's really closed off and good at protecting himself,
- 10:24but he's reading everybody in the room and can not just
- 10:28manipulate that but like use that to protect himself and
- 10:32That's basically like what is doing in this scene and I just
- 10:35God, I love it so much. I really think that this that
- 10:40line is very inspiring because if I could remember if, if I
- 10:45could I'm doing it right now. I can remember numerous times
- 10:50where I am fucking scared to do something.
- 10:52Make a big life decision, right? Get on an airplane for 10 hours
- 10:56at a time. I'm scared.
- 10:59I'm openly scared about doing that.
- 11:01Or I was But you have to remember, there's a difference
- 11:04between feeling the fear and doing it anyways which is don't
- 11:06lose your nerve. Yes.
- 11:09And going into a thing like I'll Donny.
- 11:11They would be fools to say I'm not scared scared fear.
- 11:14Keeps you protected in a way. Yeah but not losing.
- 11:18Your nerve is pushing past that and getting a job done and doing
- 11:21what needs to be done. Like Cassie and has always done
- 11:24right up until what happens in fucking Rogue one.
- 11:28Exactly, that's scary shit. In the the best part is if you
- 11:31think about Jin. She's right there with them.
- 11:34Mmm, she knows the difference between being scared and not
- 11:37losing your nerve. It's really refreshing.
- 11:40Actually, just be a hero who's afraid.
- 11:43Courage is not the absence of fear.
- 11:45Not courage is doing a thing in spite of fear and its really
- 11:48interesting too because he kind of doesn't display fear as
- 11:52filmmakers. They keep him very kind of
- 11:55neutral it away. He's just there, observing kind
- 11:59of making his way he needs them to trust.
- 12:02Him but not because he believes in their cause but because he
- 12:05doesn't, he wants to survive and walk away.
- 12:09Yeah, that's what he's trying to do.
- 12:10So I just find this so interesting because it's and
- 12:15this is actually something I'm going to say about another
- 12:17quote. I have Still Waters Run Deep
- 12:19with this character. Mmm what you see on Cassie and
- 12:22surface is not the whole story and I love that.
- 12:25It's so it's so satisfying to watch it unfold.
- 12:31It's really a A testament to how good of a Rebel Spy he ends up
- 12:34being, I mean, hmm. Everything that he's gone
- 12:37through leading up to when he becomes a rebel is really what
- 12:43sets, the stage for him becoming so successful.
- 12:45And he hasn't lost his Humanity because we see in Rogue one, he
- 12:49doesn't shoot Jin's father, like he's supposed to.
- 12:53Yeah, he's still, he's very cerebral.
- 12:55He thinks things through, he observes, he reads the room.
- 12:58This quote, I mean, and the best part is, is the Writing you
- 13:02could say exactly what he said and make it a whole paragraph
- 13:05but he did it in one line, right?
- 13:07And this would normally, like, turn into a fist punch in.
- 13:10Like, yeah. Like we said, like a pissing
- 13:12match between these two men, but what he's really doing is
- 13:15pointing out like it's normal first of all that you're all
- 13:18afraid, but don't use me as exactly use that you're scared.
- 13:22Leave me out of your bullshit and I just hope it's so much
- 13:25easier to put it on someone else right than to carry the weight
- 13:28of it yourself. And that's very human.
- 13:31But he recognizes that and he's like one step ahead of these
- 13:35people at all times in this. I just love the whole world on E
- 13:39everything about all Donnie is great.
- 13:41Yeah, I mean like right up some when he shoots skiing it's like
- 13:45he's still even though he's skiing is like revealing his
- 13:49Ploy and that he's a liar all at once, a kiss scene makes a
- 13:52decision and as you know it s because and I've heard Diego
- 13:55Luna. Talk about this if someone asked
- 13:56him why his character killed him so quickly and he said it was
- 14:00the first. Time he realized how dangerous
- 14:02it was to have people around you.
- 14:04That could betray you and that you couldn't trust sure.
- 14:07Yeah, yeah, it's like, yeah. Well, hmm, I mean, somebody like
- 14:12that is skiing, is never going to change.
- 14:14No clean out. Any now, you're not gonna change
- 14:16his mind. You're not going to talk him out
- 14:18of it. He'll just betray you down the
- 14:19line. By playing you a fool again, so
- 14:22ya gotta go. Okay, well, what's another one
- 14:25of yours? I chose this one because it's
- 14:28part of a. I remember the first time I
- 14:30heard This in the scene and I fucking cheered.
- 14:34So this is why this quote is on this list and it's part of a
- 14:39much bigger entity of things, which we know the quote is never
- 14:44more than 12 by Keno Loi. And the reason I chose this is
- 14:50number one, it was at this moment because they're asking
- 14:55him how many guards, how many guards, how many patrolman,
- 14:57whatever and he's been denying and denying and I'm not getting
- 15:00it. Involved.
- 15:01Just put your head down and do your work or I'll trust trying
- 15:03to get out of here right? Push away push away, push away
- 15:07and at that point he's in yeah and he answers Cassian, never
- 15:13more than 12 and I fucking love this moment because Andy Serkis,
- 15:19okay, I fucking love this man but due to his character wanted
- 15:25nothing to do with any of this, right?
- 15:28He just wanted out, it's kind of Parallel to cast it.
- 15:32He didn't want anything to do with this rebellion and once he
- 15:35saw him was in, he knew he had to be devoted.
- 15:38And key knows the exact same way.
- 15:41It got to a point where he could no longer be a bystander and
- 15:46when he said never more than 12, that was the moment he committed
- 15:49to doing what ended up happening and it was everything beyond
- 15:53that is just beautiful as a supplement, his speech.
- 15:56When he repeats what Cassie and says, I'd rather die.
- 16:01Dying to take them down, then died, giving them what they
- 16:04want. Yeah, is is like the full circle
- 16:08of him saying never more than 12 because he commits to that
- 16:12before he even realizes, like, that's what's going on.
- 16:14So, mmm, I cheered when he has his hands behind his back in the
- 16:19hallway and he says, never more than 12.
- 16:21And I remember I say, yes, he's in, he's fucking, and he's in,
- 16:25like, here we go. You know, you know, he's like
- 16:29crossed the point of no return. That's it.
- 16:31And I love when characters do that, they make that choice and
- 16:37they move forward. And it's the heroic thing to do,
- 16:39it's going to be risky, it's gonna cost, you know, that it's
- 16:44never free. The choices are never free.
- 16:47Ah, so good. We wouldn't have one way out
- 16:53without the words never more than 12.
- 16:55So that's very true. It's very true.
- 16:58I think that episode where he says Says that.
- 17:01And then they come to the next episode.
- 17:03That's where he and Cassie. And I kind of like working
- 17:05together to kind of make a plan. I love all that dialogue, but
- 17:09yeah, I mean them. Yes, it's so good.
- 17:12Those those actors together. It's like, it's so Dynamic.
- 17:17I just fucking love it. I can't get enough of it.
- 17:21I know. And I want to go on and do the
- 17:23whole speech that Keno, gives because he's so apprehensive at
- 17:26first, he does, he's unsure of himself.
- 17:28He's not a speech Giver, he's just a hard-working man.
- 17:31I knew just was good at what he did there and he's been
- 17:34betrayed. He had no idea that they were
- 17:36fucking with him, you know? And so he liberates these other
- 17:39prisoners with his words and his encouragement and his
- 17:42leadership. And I know I'm slipping in more
- 17:44quotes, but it's all part of this.
- 17:47He says something, like, if we work as hard to get out of here,
- 17:50as we do work everyday. Well, we'll be home or something
- 17:54to that effect. It's like so fucking moving
- 17:57because these guys are hard workers, and they thought they
- 18:00were going to get out. Out every day, just one more
- 18:02day. One more day gets knocked off
- 18:04their sins, but it wasn't anything like that.
- 18:06It's just, it's fucking brilliant.
- 18:08This fucking show is a getting excited.
- 18:11I just Andy Serkis is the perfect Keno lawyer.
- 18:17I'm sorry like he is, he is because you believe his
- 18:20strength, you believe his fierceness.
- 18:22And then you believe when he breaks.
- 18:24Yes. And it's just so sincere and
- 18:28fucking devastated. Devastating.
- 18:33Anyway, that's my choice. I love I could talk about the
- 18:37whole prison Arc. Oh my God.
- 18:40Yes, I want to. We didn't really dive into that
- 18:43too much when we were doing our Recaps and there's like, little
- 18:47details in there. I want to talk about like how
- 18:49Cassie and notices right from the beginning that they're
- 18:51understaffed gets one of the first things you notice is that
- 18:54there's extra boots on the wall, which means there's not enough
- 18:57people there to keep them under control.
- 19:00There's so many Little details, Leah.
- 19:02I'm the detail of the shape of the prison itself is the Empire
- 19:05symbol which is also the shape of mon mothma is hallway door,
- 19:10which is also her personal prison.
- 19:11We've talked about this. We shared pictures on our
- 19:13Instagram and Twitter of the shit that Pentagon.
- 19:16I'm sorry, not pet hexagon octagon, it's an octagon.
- 19:21It's 6:00. You know what it actually is.
- 19:23I looked it up. It's the separatist symbol of
- 19:26the separatist. Aha.
- 19:28Yes, right. Yes, you have it.
- 19:30I mean it was I thought it was the Empire symbol to in the
- 19:32Empire. Has one extra side.
- 19:34It does leave. You're right though so it's the
- 19:36separatist symbol that they've been using which I think is so
- 19:39interesting. That's even more interesting to
- 19:42me. Like why would they choose that?
- 19:44I know why they would choose that.
- 19:45There's all there's a whole bunch of reasons.
- 19:50Okay anyway what's your next one?
- 19:53I can't wait to hear. Okay, my next one is a mon
- 19:58mothma quote. Oh I love This so much.
- 20:01It's from the episode announcement.
- 20:04Uh-huh. And she's talking to teh in
- 20:06their little party that they are throwing at their house.
- 20:10Yes, yes, yes. And she's, it's on my list, too.
- 20:15Is it a go ahead? So, she's talking, she's trying
- 20:20to like, figure out how she can confide in him, because she
- 20:23needs his help, but they're both not quite sure where they
- 20:25actually stand politically yet. And they realized they both hate
- 20:29the Empire like Very extremely. And mon mothma says, she's
- 20:35talking about the perception of herself and she says, it's a
- 20:40lie. The mon mothma people think they
- 20:42know is a lie. It's a projection.
- 20:43It's a front. I've learned from Palpatine.
- 20:46I show you the stone in my hand. You miss the knife at your
- 20:50throat. Yes, holy fuck.
- 20:53I, just when I heard that line, the first time I paused it
- 20:58because I was like that is one of the most beautiful.
- 21:00All pieces of Pros. Like the dialogue is, is
- 21:04beautiful and it's delivered by Genevieve and been miles who
- 21:09plays tasty just like to Perfection.
- 21:11Uh-huh. But what I love is the deeper
- 21:14implication of it that it's a glimpse into Mon mothma.
- 21:19Has silent intellect right then again, Still Waters Run Deep.
- 21:24What you see on the surface is not what's going on underneath
- 21:28and she to a Alice Observer, who's not really paying
- 21:33attention, because if you are paying attention, she kind of
- 21:36does play her hand. And tip our hand a little bit
- 21:38with her passion and her compassion, and all of that.
- 21:43But she's, we're also seeing that she's like duplicitous.
- 21:46Right now, we're actually seeing how she does have multiple
- 21:50existences. She has to translate who she is
- 21:54in two different worlds. She has to deal with the Empire,
- 21:58but she's also creating this Rebellion that's Underground.
- 22:00Round. And it also shows this line of
- 22:04show you the stone in my hand. You missed the knife at your
- 22:07throat. We're seeing her willingness to
- 22:10be ruthless in a way. We never saw in the Clone Wars,
- 22:14we saw it in Palpatine and I think it's extremely important
- 22:17that she quotes Palpatine. Mmm, that's what he's been doing
- 22:22all along. It's truly amazing for her to
- 22:28see like Palpatine's. Yeah, who Actions.
- 22:31Even back in the Clone Wars, you know, and she is not afraid to
- 22:36use his own tactics against him. This is a woman I admire yes I
- 22:43gotta say I have the second half of that quote as on my list.
- 22:47Oh do you I do? It's great.
- 22:50May I read it because it was leaves lie.
- 22:53She says, in the same dialogue this Pros as long as everyone
- 22:57thinks Simon irritation. There's a good chance.
- 23:00They'll Miss what? I'm really doing and it settles
- 23:03over her bestie there. What's his name?
- 23:07Tay Tay it settles over and there's a moment and then she's
- 23:10like smile. Don't forget to keep the mask
- 23:14on, you know, is I got it, so, it's good.
- 23:23She's so fucking Charming. It's so good because my God,
- 23:29there's there's a lot. Unpack in just that she is a
- 23:33multi-dimensional woman on a mission and the stakes are
- 23:36getting higher and she's ready to play.
- 23:38Like, she's really ready like for a while she kinda
- 23:41second-guesses like what are you doing when she talks to Lutheran
- 23:44in the museum? Yeah, she said, don't you know
- 23:47that like poking them is going to start shit and he's like,
- 23:49yeah, that's why I'm doing it. So for a while she was a little
- 23:52afraid, but just like all these other characters we've been
- 23:55talking about once they commit their in.
- 23:57There's no turning back. Yes, you're so right.
- 24:00Right. That is like the theme right
- 24:02within this show that these characters are like, she in
- 24:06particular, and actually Cassian and Keenan alloy.
- 24:10They're all surrounded by danger.
- 24:12Every area of their life is dangerous.
- 24:16You know, she's got a spy as her driver but also she can't trust
- 24:21her husband and her daughter hates her guts and would
- 24:24probably sell her out because of all that.
- 24:28She's not only just backed into a corner.
- 24:31At this point, you know who she going to turn to but herself,
- 24:35she has only herself to rely on and the fact that she doesn't
- 24:39shrink away and disappear and go hide somewhere and said she does
- 24:43the complete opposite where she openly opposes the Empire,
- 24:46empirical overreach, you know, I just think it's, she is one of
- 24:51the most fascinating characters, I'll say, female characters, but
- 24:55just characters in general and Star Wars because of this
- 24:59writing, but also Genevieve's. Performance as well just so
- 25:02fucking good. Oh my God, I could watch her all
- 25:05day. I could watch her read the phone
- 25:07book. Yes, I do.
- 25:09Yeah, I want to touch on the fact of their choice in scene,
- 25:14setting this scene and having this moment between her and she
- 25:18and Tay, they could have had them alone in a room but no,
- 25:21they kept him out, right? Come to moving kept the, you
- 25:25know, the people around and stuff in the fact that she's
- 25:28Whispering makes it even more. For She's So composed and she
- 25:33has like the straight spine in the Poise of a senator and all
- 25:37this flashiness in the opulence of this party and all these
- 25:41double cross. And people, you know, she's
- 25:43surrounded by and she's still having this conversation just
- 25:46slightly under just not quite a whisper, not quite a you know,
- 25:51it's just a low hum of a tone and and he's just absorbing it
- 25:56and she's coaching him through it.
- 25:57Like just smile, don't don't look away, just bear with me.
- 26:00Me, you know, you know my political Endeavors are hard for
- 26:04you too. May not be your taste or
- 26:05something, and she's she's kind of being widely, but she's
- 26:08keeping it at a whisper and I think it was brilliant because
- 26:11there could have been a thousand different ways they could have
- 26:14had this scene, but they chose to have her whisper and there's
- 26:18something really impactful. Yeah, about the whispered aspect
- 26:24of her delivering all these lines.
- 26:26It's really, really cool. I think it shows that she has Of
- 26:31Steel even though we don't think she does.
- 26:33And she shows vulnerability for sure which is very human and
- 26:37realistic. But when it comes down to it,
- 26:39this woman has got some cojones that's why she ends up leading
- 26:45this shit. I mean, I think it's seriously,
- 26:47I would follow her to any end. Yes.
- 26:51Yeah, she's amazing. And what if her and Marva ever
- 26:54met, I think they would have really liked each other.
- 26:57They would have received the hell out of each other.
- 26:59Yeah, I'm very excited. Cited to see how she meets
- 27:02Cassian. Because we know she does.
- 27:03She's in the room with him in Rogue one.
- 27:05So, there is some moment where they're cross, their paths are
- 27:10going to cross, that will be interesting to see.
- 27:14I also want to note in this scene if you listen to the
- 27:16music, it's very and or esque but it also has this like
- 27:21humming building in the background like building up in
- 27:24the background that is almost identical to the background
- 27:29that's going on in Return of the Jedi when Luke is fighting Vader
- 27:33in front of my goodness, I have to re-watch.
- 27:36I just watched it. I didn't pick up on any of that
- 27:38because I'm so enthralled. By watching her speak Genevieve
- 27:43and the delivery of her entire Beach, or lying or conversation
- 27:47or whatever. Yeah, I need to go back and
- 27:49listen, that's very cool. I didn't time.
- 27:51It was fun that I noticed that the first time I watched it even
- 27:54because it grows really slowly. You don't notice it at first and
- 27:58then all of a sudden you're like, what am I like, there's
- 28:00something. Thing that catches about he
- 28:02catches your attention. Yeah one but you've noticed
- 28:04that. Yes it's like the emperor's
- 28:08overbearing presence. You know I hate the fucking a I
- 28:13hate you palps. Fuck you palps.
- 28:22Pong Krell gets a day off. So was that your number three?
- 28:30That I mean the quote okay yeah but I have another okay well go
- 28:35for it then. I mean this could be my three.
- 28:38I have to go back to Marva nice because this moment is so
- 28:45poignant. It's during the clanking, the
- 28:48miners, they're all yanking and it's for a reason.
- 28:53It was brilliant but she says gets to you doesn't it?
- 28:57That's what a reckoning sounds. Like, you want it to stop but it
- 29:00just keeps coming. It's when it stops, that's when
- 29:04you'll really want to start to fret.
- 29:07And she's right because when it stops all fucking hell, breaks
- 29:13loose. Yep.
- 29:15And yet because what the sound is the build-up?
- 29:18It is. And they're distracting with
- 29:20the. What are they doing?
- 29:21Why are they playing? What are these people doing,
- 29:23what? You know, and it's a Silent
- 29:25Communication. Not not silent but it's a
- 29:28wordless. It's communication.
- 29:30Yeah between the people and she says in her death speech like
- 29:34we've always had each other, you know.
- 29:36And it's so evident in the way that they're synchronized and
- 29:39they do this and of course we have the guy up on the Bell
- 29:41Tower with the when that big Clank and of the stone there man
- 29:46is a spirit animal here. I fucking love that, man.
- 29:50I love him but I just the Reckoning start.
- 29:56The Reckoning stuff is It's kind of it bleeds through the entire
- 30:01series, and it's summed up in her words in this quote and I
- 30:05fucking love it. It's such a good moment because
- 30:08she, she's the one who's being oppressed right there in her
- 30:12home. Yeah.
- 30:13She's over there. She's just sitting in the chair
- 30:15and she's smiling almost coyly. Yeah, and the way the guys start
- 30:20to get really nervous hearing a noise and then she just Praise
- 30:24on their nervousness. Yeah.
- 30:25Since to play with them, gets to you, doesn't it?
- 30:28I mean, I just love that. What are they gonna say to an
- 30:32old woman? You know, she's.
- 30:34No, he's not threatening. Is she oh bitch?
- 30:37Yes, she is even after she dies. She'll get you again.
- 30:41So Marvel's my hero. Yeah, is, I would like, I would
- 30:47like to be friends with Marva. I would like to visit her every
- 30:49day. I just love it.
- 30:51That's my, that's my final quote.
- 30:53I fucking love it. It's amazing.
- 30:55It's just with the clanking. That's such a smart and creative
- 31:02way to execute something like that.
- 31:04And it's and it really, it really shows how well they knew
- 31:08that community that hit they had built for this show.
- 31:12Yeah, the miners and the the usage of their elements that
- 31:16they have all gather as once using the using what they
- 31:21selvedge using, what they work on in all these things.
- 31:24And they don't know anyone from the outside has no idea, it's so
- 31:27good. It's so good.
- 31:30It's so it's brilliant. It's really, it's really,
- 31:32really, it is some of the most incredible World building I've
- 31:35ever seen and it's not piggybacking off of really
- 31:39anything else that exists except Rogue one.
- 31:42But even then it's so different. It's, it's honestly we don't see
- 31:48anything else like it and we don't see much of it, there's a
- 31:52wreckage yard and then there's the community and that's all we
- 31:56need to see to have this picture and it's really about The spirit
- 31:59of the people that end up making it more than what it is.
- 32:01The fact that they put bricks with ashes in them, right?
- 32:06Yeah. It's just a, what a cool
- 32:09concept. The whole thing from top to
- 32:11bottom is really smart. I think I think so too.
- 32:15And the the that the brick thing in particular shows you the
- 32:19writers had an idea of what life on Fair, Oaks was from birth to
- 32:22death. Yes.
- 32:23Yes, yes, yes. So they had a general trajectory
- 32:26in their mind of like what other Standard Life Would.
- 32:28It'd be like there and they never bore us to death with
- 32:33Exposition they don't explain. They just be you know like they
- 32:39just act. Yeah.
- 32:41We've we've caught on to it, you know like you don't have to over
- 32:46explain and that's why I love this show.
- 32:48They just drop you in and you're on your way, you know.
- 32:51Like they'd never said that you Lauren was yularen right?
- 32:56You know you just yeah. Just put it together because
- 33:00holy shit that's you'll are and that's you look like that makes
- 33:03me so sad. It does me too but like that's
- 33:06damn it Star Wars pain say it with me.
- 33:13The pain. Okay.
- 33:18So my last one. Yeah it is.
- 33:21I'm curious. It's a saw gerrera quote I yes I
- 33:25was okay. Yes.
- 33:27Yes because I fucking He loves, ah, Guerrero, he's too, and it's
- 33:31really Forest Whitaker, but also this writing is all part of it.
- 33:34Well, I did anyone be sought after for?
- 33:37No, no, no. I know that there's a voice
- 33:41actor who plays him but he doesn't bring the lunacy to the
- 33:44characters away. Forest.
- 33:45Whitaker's office, lunacy is the fucking word that was perfectly
- 33:49put because he's got kind of like wild eyes and a wild hair
- 33:53about them anyway, you know you like yes one you could see one
- 33:57Miss Kim on the wrong day. There's Wire loose you know and
- 34:01he'll use that water to blow you up.
- 34:03Yes. He's so this is really just a
- 34:08whole exchange kind of between saw and luthan and I just
- 34:12fucking love it so very much but it's the part where saw says
- 34:17Kriegers a separatist Maya pays at Nia Republican, the Gorman
- 34:21front, the partisan Alliance sick tourists human cultists.
- 34:26Galaxy partition has their lost all of I'm lost lost.
- 34:30What are you? Luthan.
- 34:31I never really knew what are you?
- 34:34This is the line. I love so much when he says, I
- 34:37am the only one with Clarity of purpose, Clara and Lutheran's
- 34:42responses. Well, Anarchy is a seductive
- 34:45concept, a bit of a luxury. I'd argue to a man who is hiding
- 34:48in cold caves and begging for spare parts.
- 34:51Now, first of all, Round of Applause for saying that to saw,
- 34:56gerrera is face. Yeah.
- 34:58Right? He actually laughed in his face
- 35:01and song. It's so offended and what he
- 35:06doesn't kill him. There's a odds amount of respect
- 35:09there. Yes.
- 35:11After he says that saw gives it. You see this miniscule?
- 35:15Fluctuation, and Forest Whitaker's eyes where he's like,
- 35:18am I gonna kill him? And then he just his face
- 35:22softens and he just laughs and is like no sale today.
- 35:24Luthan? Yeah, fuck you.
- 35:27Yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm just don't know which
- 35:30version of him you're gonna get, but I've talked about this quote
- 35:34before I love it. It's brilliant.
- 35:37And I love like the dark humor that Stellan Skarsgård brings to
- 35:40the whole situation. But I wanted to talk about the
- 35:45specific words that saw uses because I kind of did a little
- 35:49research on them, okay. You can look them up in on
- 35:52Wikipedia and they'll give you like a very vague reference
- 35:55within the Star Wars universe, but I looked up what they mean
- 35:58in. Our universe.
- 35:59Okay. So a sec turist spelled the way
- 36:03they spell, it is actually a Romanian word 04, a police
- 36:09officer who is in charge of a very specific area that he
- 36:12patrols. Okay, makes sense.
- 36:15So if you think of this, in terms of that.
- 36:17Yeah, like in the Rebellion, there are like little areas that
- 36:20little rebellions, like little partisans, whatever you want to
- 36:24call them, they're like in their own little spot, right?
- 36:27They Patrol that area and They say, fuck you to the Empire but
- 36:30they're not part of the larger, the larger picture when he says
- 36:34human cultists, we know the word called we know like what that
- 36:39means but specifically what it means is a cultist is one who
- 36:43exhibits great Devotion to a person idea object or movement
- 36:48and human cultist implies anti other species true.
- 36:54Yes. Oh so and they enter talk about
- 36:58that a bit. In Rebel Rising how there's some
- 37:01talk about, how so we'll work with another group and that
- 37:05group hates humans. You know.
- 37:07It's like it's just interesting to think about the like quote
- 37:10unquote racism among. Yeah the alliance.
- 37:15You know what's interesting though is that I never get an
- 37:18overarching that I never get a sense of galactical racism in
- 37:25Star Wars because it seems like they're all A pretty chill with
- 37:29all these different alien and humanoid species.
- 37:33It's just ironically enough. They're trying to eradicate the
- 37:38Jedi, like they're trying to wipe out a set of individuals
- 37:45that are strong in the force and it's the really any race as long
- 37:50as they're strong in the force. It's really crazy.
- 37:53So it's interesting to look at it from this point of view that.
- 37:56Yeah, I guess I never thought of it.
- 37:58What's the term again? Cult is human.
- 38:01Cultic human cultist. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 38:03I mean, it's got to exist. I believe one like saw has a
- 38:06really good perspective on it because he has been a partisan.
- 38:11Yeah. Basically, because he was not a
- 38:13separatist nor is the Republic either back in the Clone Wars
- 38:17when we met him. So he's always been like On The
- 38:20Fringe. So he has this whole other
- 38:22perspective of Rebel Fighters and how they and even here where
- 38:26he won't work with the intro Krieger, You know, because he's
- 38:29an ox, you know? Yeah.
- 38:31But the other word he uses it's a partition assist and that is a
- 38:34very specific term that talks about dividing politically
- 38:39dividing up a country. And so like Ireland was
- 38:43partitioned in 1912. India was partitioned in 1947
- 38:49both by Britain by the way. Nobody's Empire.
- 38:53Yeah. And what they do is they take a
- 38:55country that exists already and basically choppy in an Put up
- 38:59delineating areas like walls and shit like that, and make new
- 39:04pieces of government that run each of these areas.
- 39:07And so he's talking about people who are local policing who are
- 39:13racist, who are trying to divide, you know, places that
- 39:17already exist, that might even already be United.
- 39:21And this is why what Lutheran is saying to him about.
- 39:24We have to work together. He's like, that's never going to
- 39:27happen. Yeah, yeah.
- 39:28Yeah, and I just enjoyed digging deeper into that because like on
- 39:33the surface. Yes, we get it.
- 39:34But if you want to dig deeper that, you know, they did when
- 39:37they wrote it right. Like the whole use of the word
- 39:40sector wrist is, that's very specific.
- 39:44Yeah. There's somebody on the writing
- 39:46Team new. Yeah, exactly.
- 39:49These are all factions of developing War and the
- 39:54underbelly of it. And I think it's really smart
- 39:57and I didn't know any of that. But it lends a depth to that
- 40:00scene now. Yeah, it makes saw seem less
- 40:03crazy. Yeah, which is crazy.
- 40:06All right, because he is a saying it with this like a crazy
- 40:11look in his eye. But if you think of it, it's
- 40:13like this is his perspective of why it's never going to work and
- 40:18luthan has his head in the clouds.
- 40:20Where's luthan is looking at it from.
- 40:22If we don't do this, we literally will not be able to
- 40:24stop the Empire from growing to the point where it will
- 40:27overwhelm us. True, I mean they both have
- 40:29their points. Yeah I still think to this day
- 40:33that saw gerrera as a character. He was wronged.
- 40:37He's guilty. He feels guilt that will never
- 40:40go away and he is out to get people because of it under the
- 40:46guise of fighting against the empire.
- 40:49Yeah, I think he doesn't know what else to do with himself
- 40:52know. And I I do think in time when he
- 40:57meets others, he This sort of conversation with Lutheran, he
- 41:00even meets Jin, you know, his world gets expanded a little
- 41:04bit. He begins to connect with others
- 41:06and I think it does transition over to fight the Empire.
- 41:09We see it kind of like when he lets Jin go and Rogue one.
- 41:14Yeah, there's a greater purpose there but he's at the end of his
- 41:17line and he probably sees all the mistakes he made in the
- 41:21generalizations in the and the and the very focused need for
- 41:25Revenge to hurt those that hurt. Him.
- 41:29And that sort of thing, I totally get all of that, but
- 41:32it's nice to see him kind of expand away from that in a way.
- 41:37First idea, I think he's so interesting because he is just
- 41:42not defined really. He kind of is and this is also
- 41:47what makes him scary? Sometimes, it's you, never sure
- 41:51what you're going to get from him and that's why I love that
- 41:53scene between him and gin when she first sees him on Jetta.
- 41:58Because he really does love her. He really thought he was doing
- 42:03the right thing for her and she's like, you just fucking
- 42:05abandoned me and he's like I think of you every day, it's
- 42:08like what he's probably, he's been abandoned and he's probably
- 42:13abandoned so many people that to him.
- 42:15It's just a day that ends in y, but to her, it meant more.
- 42:20Yeah, to, he was just protecting her and that's what it takes,
- 42:23that's what you do. It's very cold and very better
- 42:26than want to say. Data-driven But because it's not
- 42:30data driven, it's more like, emotion driven, but it's like,
- 42:33his experience is, it makes it difficult for him to have a, the
- 42:37more sentimental side, I guess, or maybe because his sister
- 42:40died. He doesn't want the sentimental
- 42:42side. But right, I just enjoy watching
- 42:46it because he is again, he's nothing like any character you
- 42:50find anywhere else. He's so far from a cliche.
- 42:54That is so incredibly fascinating and we know very
- 42:57little about Him, we see him he drops in and out of stories but
- 43:02that's enough for you to get a pretty good sense of, like I
- 43:05said, the lunacy the lunacy of it all.
- 43:10I do love them for it though. All of these individuals are
- 43:14great and and there's so many others, there's so many other
- 43:17lines. There's so many other characters
- 43:20with stories and I mean, we didn't even touch on keros nemec
- 43:24you know, he's got a whole episodes worth of lines that we
- 43:28Talk about and we'll just have to do some more episodes where
- 43:32we just bring. Okay, let's go.
- 43:34Let's do it. Our audience question this week
- 43:46is what is your favorite quote from?
- 43:49And or if you had to pick one, I know it's tough.
- 43:52We know we just did this, it's very hard.
- 43:56But did we mention one of your It's and if so which one let us
