- 1:02What's up race fans, It's Monday and it is time for the Monday
- 1:05Night Rewind Live on top of Racing Media presented by ELH
- 1:08Detailing and Federated Auto Parts.
- 1:11This is the interview show, the digital scrapbook for Michiana
- 1:14Motorsports. As we like to say tonight,
- 1:17another couple of great guests. Once again we have the sea
- 1:19Champion of the front wheel drives from the Galesburg
- 1:21Speedway. Bree Brady joins us at 7:05 and
- 1:24at 7:45 former Corgan Oil and Springport announced.
- 1:28And now the tri-state Sprint's announcer, Sean Sprague joins us
- 1:31at 745 SA. Couple of great conversations
- 1:33ahead of us, but I am Buju and I'm joined as always by the man
- 1:36in the top row himself, Lewis Knope.
- 1:38How are you doing tonight? Hey, we're while we're getting
- 1:41through the day just to I guess I'll get right away that, you
- 1:46know, we lost, as you know, and then people on my friends list
- 1:49know that, you know, we lost one of our dogs today.
- 1:52So if I look emotional or look like a hot wreck, it looks like
- 1:56I went through AC feature myself.
- 1:57So or street stock, really long St. stock feature.
- 2:01I don't know, maybe that qualifies too.
- 2:03But but yeah. So other than that, you know,
- 2:06you you push through and and you do what you got to do, right.
- 2:09And so we have another awesome lineup of guests.
- 2:13I'm so excited to have Bri on. You know, I talked with her
- 2:16yesterday at Corgan Oil and obviously I got to see her a
- 2:20couple times at Galesburg this year.
- 2:21She didn't really raise Kalamazoo this year.
- 2:23So anytime I got over to Galesburg, I was like, it was
- 2:26also, it was always awesome to check in with them and see how
- 2:28they're doing. So I'm excited for that.
- 2:31But how about you? I know you got a heat win over
- 2:33the weekend and then you mess it up in the future, but did you
- 2:38know you get your wreck in the heats and you do well in the
- 2:41feature? That's how it's supposed to go.
- 2:42Yeah, well, I was going fast in the feature until I wrecked, so
- 2:45I still feel okay about it. Yeah, got a heat win, that was
- 2:48nice. South Bend Showdown, only the
- 2:51second time I've been out this year.
- 2:52The first time was also South Bend on July 4th and I didn't
- 2:55even get to start those races. So yeah, it was nice to be able
- 2:59to pick up a heat wind in South Bend all the first three
- 3:01sessions day, the first two practice sessions and the heat
- 3:03race. I went out and was just super
- 3:05slow for the 1st 34 laps and then figured out what I was
- 3:08doing and picked it up again. But yeah, always nice to be home
- 3:12and it was nice to be in Victory Lane.
- 3:13We talk on this show about heat races a lot and what they mean,
- 3:17and let me tell you, I don't want to get rid of heat raises
- 3:18now because that one on Saturday felt really nice.
- 3:22Well, and I and that's and that's always kind of like the
- 3:25the thing, right? Like, you know, the heat races,
- 3:28you know, gives a chance for those who win a race who and
- 3:34maybe many cases won't, right. Or, or, or when you get to the
- 3:38feature and you see all the names in there, it's like, man,
- 3:41how many people don't need to crash to have a chance, right?
- 3:43And if you're going like I need the whole field to crash but me,
- 3:46you know, then it's kind of right.
- 3:48But you know, you still go out and you compete because you
- 3:50never know, right? And you just never know.
- 3:52Weird stuff does happen, pile up in turn 1.
- 3:54Before you know it, your last car standing and you win, but
- 3:58especially on the quarter miles, right?
- 3:59Yeah, I mean, anything could happen, you know, at, you know,
- 4:02we'll have Brie on here shortly. And at Galesburg.
- 4:04Great. Go off the road, go off the
- 4:06road, don't hit the tree, but go off the road a little bit,
- 4:08right. Don't hit the Billboard.
- 4:09So, you know, just just enough to get off the road and go up
- 4:12the embankment. But but yeah, so you know, I, I
- 4:16didn't, I'll be honest, obviously I was super busy with
- 4:19Kalamazoo on on Saturday that I didn't see a whole lot.
- 4:24Someone asked me like, how did, hey, have you heard what's going
- 4:27on down there? I'm like, I don't pay attention
- 4:28to what goes on at South Bend. So I'm like, I don't have, I
- 4:31don't have reason to other than, you know, those who I pay
- 4:34attention to closely. But obviously Charlie Hannah,
- 4:37you know, got his win. So, you know, I'm excited for
- 4:41that, you know, to get the Street Stock win.
- 4:43And I feel like, and I could be wrong, but I feel like that's
- 4:47his first St. Sock feature win with with since
- 4:51he left late. Models, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 4:53since. He left their.
- 4:54Models, I think and. So he's been close, you know,
- 4:58he's definitely been close over at New Paris a couple times.
- 5:01And so so I was really excited to see him do that.
- 5:05I think only a second win since his wreck that he had itself
- 5:08then. OK.
- 5:09Yeah, yeah, might be, Yep, 'cause I don't know that he's
- 5:13gotten something at Plymouth or anything.
- 5:15I don't think he got it there. So he's been at St.
- 5:18Stock quite a few years now once he's stopped racing Outlaws,
- 5:21but. But you might be right that it's
- 5:24his second since that moment, so.
- 5:26A couple, a couple close ones this year.
- 5:28A couple were, Yeah, he put on a really good show and almost got
- 5:321. So yeah, it was, it was really
- 5:33cool to see Charlie win one. It was a messy feature.
- 5:35A lot of stuff got tore up. But it's not like Charlie just
- 5:38kind of, it didn't just fall on his lap.
- 5:40He was in the fast heat. He was a fast car all day with
- 5:43that little 6 cylinder. So I've said it on my show, I've
- 5:46said it on Facebook. But yeah, Congrats to Charlie
- 5:48because it was awesome. Yeah.
- 5:50And and to do it at a place that obviously there's a lot of
- 5:54connection with the family too, right?
- 5:56You know, I mean, they're obviously the Hannahs are
- 5:59ingrained in a lot of places. But you know, obviously what
- 6:03Doug did at a lot of tracks in the area, South Bend, one of
- 6:06those places that he did a lot of a lot of damage to in terms
- 6:10of getting victories and so. And flying and flying out of the
- 6:13race. Yeah, flying into Turn 4, right.
- 6:15And all the things. So, so, yeah.
- 6:18So that, you know, I know congratulations certainly to you
- 6:21on that. Obviously the feature didn't go
- 6:23as planned, but you got to be at a place that I know you love a
- 6:25lot, right. And so that's all that matters.
- 6:27And I had. Fun so.
- 6:29Yeah. So one thing that I do want to,
- 6:34I was asked to pass on a message and so I'm going to do that and
- 6:38I hope people can help me pass on this message for us.
- 6:42But as you know, Boozoo, obviously there's been lots of
- 6:46rumors for a long time in a lot of places about a lot of places.
- 6:50You know, from Thunderbird to Kalamazoo to South Bend to
- 6:53Plymouth to, I mean, you name it, rumors everywhere, right?
- 6:56But one thing that we do want to address, I've been asked to help
- 6:59address is that apparently the new rumor of the day is that
- 7:03Super Shoe is cancelled. And I can promise you, not only
- 7:06is Super Shoe not cancelled, it is full steam head.
- 7:09In fact, they are painting lines this week for the campsites.
- 7:13We are almost full at capacity. There are 30 left that are first
- 7:18come, first served that must be paid for in person on Super Shoe
- 7:22weekend. But we are at record numbers in
- 7:25terms of campsites that have been sold.
- 7:27And so they have 30 more that are available, but they're first
- 7:31come, first served. But Super Shoe is not cancelled.
- 7:34And spoiler alert, Kalamazoo Speedway as of this moment in
- 7:39time is not and has not been sold.
- 7:42And so there's a a lot of people and we know where some of them
- 7:45are coming from and some of them might even be watching right
- 7:48now. I hope they are that they can
- 7:51learn that they're rumors are doing more damage than than
- 7:54help. And we have a lot of people who
- 7:56are working really hard behind the scenes right now for super
- 7:59shoe. And when I was asked, I'm like,
- 8:00I'm emotionally dysregulated enough for this anyways, but but
- 8:04just stop. You know that I know, you know,
- 8:06we have Brie Brady coming on, obviously Galesburg.
- 8:09You know, lots of people have talks about Galesburg too.
- 8:11And it's like just knock it off, right?
- 8:13You know you're not helping when you're spreading rumors that you
- 8:16have no facts. I promise you when Kalamazoo is
- 8:18sold, I will be not the first, second or third, but I might be
- 8:22the 4th through 10th person to find out because I'm connected
- 8:26to the Kalamazoo Speedway Facebook page, which means I
- 8:28would have to be removed from the Facebook page to give it to
- 8:31the new people. And I'm still on the Kalamazoo
- 8:34page. So I know it's not sold.
- 8:36That doesn't mean that there's not conversations, but it's not
- 8:40sold. It hasn't been sold.
- 8:41No checks have it or cash has exchanged hands and super shoes
- 8:44full steam ahead. Donnie Ritter and his team are
- 8:47working hard on two shows. We need to give them credit for
- 8:50that because putting Michigan Cup together and everything
- 8:53they've had to do at Michigan Cup are at Springport to get
- 8:56that track ready after the we won't go into those details
- 9:00about what was left behind for them, but you know, they're
- 9:03working hard. So if if you're seeing those
- 9:06rumors, put them to squash, you know, help us out because people
- 9:09are are messaging the page and and others and just stop, knock
- 9:14it off. It's not fun and it's not funny.
- 9:17And if you're doing it and you're watching it, there's a
- 9:20lot of other words I could say right now, but it's before 9:00
- 9:22PM, so I won't, but I'll leave it at that.
- 9:25Just knock it off. Speaking of knock it off, this
- 9:29Thursday we're knocking off another episode of the Thursday
- 9:32Night Throttle. Yeah, yeah, look at that.
- 9:36Remember, we are every other week.
- 9:37That was not cancelled either, just so anyone wants to know.
- 9:40Not that anyone said it was, but then Thursday, October 1st,
- 9:43we'll be back October 15th. So next Monday, it's going to be
- 9:48a very Bahama bracket heavy show.
- 9:51Just to let you know, we're going to bring to save on.
- 9:53We're look, we're talking with a lot of guests about coming on.
- 9:55So it's going to be very Bahama bracket heavy to talk about all
- 10:00that. And I know there's about 9
- 10:01Galesburg drivers for interest in going down to the Bahama
- 10:04brackets. So if anyone wants to do that in
- 10:06October, I believe that's 16th, 17th and 18th.
- 10:09We're going to even have a Thursday night throttle before
- 10:11that. The throttle this week is before
- 10:14Trifecta and Super shoe. October 1st is before Michigan
- 10:17Cup and October 29th. That's when it was every other
- 10:20that fell there. And then this the we will start
- 10:23one episode a month on a Thursday starting in November.
- 10:26And then I want to get to our trivia question before we bring
- 10:29on Bri. I know we're a few minutes
- 10:30behind, but since I was asked to address the rumors, I wanted to
- 10:36help with that. And like I said, I'm emotionally
- 10:38dysregulated enough to do that that I could deliver it more
- 10:41bluntly than maybe my kind, happy self would on a normal
- 10:45night. But how many years has it been
- 10:48since a female driver won a track championship at Galesburg?
- 10:53Bonus. Name the champion so you can put
- 10:57it right in the comments here if you think it's been 30 years
- 11:00since a champion. Female champion in the Pure
- 11:04Stocks front wheel drive classes one or thirteen years for BC,
- 11:09three years maybe recently or D20 four years ago.
- 11:14And the bonus is name the person.
- 11:18So is that Taylor Ferns who now races in the 500 Sprint Car Tour
- 11:23and bounces all around? Tina Lewis, who is also helping
- 11:27to organize the mass chaos that is Super Shoe Nationals camping.
- 11:33Or Camille Lewis who just raced in a school bus at Kalamazoo
- 11:38over the weekend. Or Shirley Elliott who you can
- 11:42find a really cool picture of her racing at Galesburg in 1992
- 11:46on Checkered Flag podcast news or whatever Facebook page that
- 11:50is. So Shirley Elliott, Camille
- 11:53Lewis, Tina Lewis, or Taylor Ferns, all awesome female
- 11:57drivers. Speaking of an awesome female
- 12:00driver, Boozoo, Are you ready to engage Bree mode?
- 12:04Let's. Do it.
- 12:06All right, the new Galesburg champion and I believe first
- 12:12time champion in her career, Bree Brady.
- 12:16Let's go ahead and bring her. Oh, I messed it up.
- 12:19Let's bring her on. I hit the wrong graphic there
- 12:21twice. Twice I engaged, I engaged Bree
- 12:24mode too much, I went too much. I went to click and they're not
- 12:29in the right order right now because Buju's secret that he
- 12:32doesn't know about that roulette is in the way.
- 12:35And so I went to click off of 1 and the other so fired the
- 12:38production guy too much Bree mode, but welcome Bree.
- 12:42You know I'm a big fan of yours. So welcome to the Monday night
- 12:45Rewind. As you know our softball
- 12:48question because I know you've watched the show before.
- 12:51I always like to start off with who are you?
- 12:54Because you have a lot of people watching right now.
- 12:56Don't be nervous about that. They you can only see us and
- 12:59they can see you, but you can't see them.
- 13:01So you don't know who's watching.
- 13:02Yeah. Only a couple million.
- 13:05Yeah. I'm good at driving a race car,
- 13:08not very good at talking, so see how this goes.
- 13:11You, you just do you. You know, that's like I was
- 13:14telling you on yesterday, you just imagine we're sitting in a
- 13:16pit box having a conversation. So, so for those who are
- 13:20watching who may not know who you are, especially since you're
- 13:23at Galesburg a lot this year, you didn't race as much of
- 13:26Kalamazoo. So sometimes the fan bases
- 13:29crossover, sometimes they don't. So definitely who's Bree Brady?
- 13:33Yeah, I started racing IN24I raced both Kalamazoo and
- 13:40Galesburg and then 25I raced both Kalamazoo and Galesburg.
- 13:46And then this year I've just raced Galesburg and must be a
- 13:50good thing because we managed to pull 2 championships out of
- 13:54just, you know, taking one night at a time and a lot easier doing
- 14:00one night instead of two. But yeah, I mean, I work, I my
- 14:06brother and me and my my dad, we we go every weekend and pretty
- 14:12much just race and have fun. Well, and you're always laid
- 14:17back too, like you, you just seem very laid back.
- 14:20You know, you don't seem like the day gets to you.
- 14:22And and that's even something that even if, you know, you
- 14:27crash at Super Shoe or wherever it may be, right?
- 14:30Like it didn't seem to like, like, yeah, there might be
- 14:34disappointment, but you're always laid back.
- 14:36So what is it that you do to keep yourself grounded?
- 14:39Like how do you do that with competition?
- 14:42Right. Well, I've definitely had to
- 14:44help hold my temperate back a few times I've I've learned that
- 14:49side come out of me. But yeah, I don't know.
- 14:52I honestly freak out during right before I go out and then
- 14:56once I hit the track I'm like, OK, it's a little bit kosher
- 14:59now. Then you know, I always know I
- 15:02have my dad coming back and he'll Get Me Out every weekend
- 15:06so. Well, and do you want to talk a
- 15:08little bit like do you have any superstitions or anything that
- 15:11like help you like once you're on the track, like do you go
- 15:14through a process like there even as a, you know, I'm just a
- 15:18videographer. So like, but I have my own
- 15:20superstitions. There are certain things that I
- 15:21do in a certain order every race night.
- 15:24So, so do you have any superstitions or anything that
- 15:27you do that, you know, even kind of helps bring you down a little
- 15:29bit? Oh yeah, I, as soon as I get in
- 15:32the car, everything is the same. I'm strapping up the same.
- 15:36And then I, you know, put my helmet on and then I, I found
- 15:39this 7th leaf Clover right before race day one time I taped
- 15:45it to my car and I've got I got to touch that like 3 times and
- 15:49my brother comes up and gives me a pep talk right before the race
- 15:52and, and then I'm off. Well, that's something that, you
- 15:57know, a lot of people may not know if they don't go to
- 15:59Galesburg, right, is, you know, when they think of like a sea
- 16:02champion, you know, they might go, oh, you know, well, that's
- 16:06like AC feature, but it's like, oh, but there's like 70 of them,
- 16:10you know, on a night, right? It's not like this is a, you
- 16:14know, there was 10 people you're competing against and that's how
- 16:17you got it right. Like you're competing against a
- 16:19lot of people, you know, who, who are racing, who are very
- 16:24dedicated to Galesburg week in and week out.
- 16:26So do you want to talk a little bit about like the competition
- 16:30aspect? Like you know, someone may hear
- 16:33see feature and they may not think much of it, but sometimes
- 16:36even at Kalamazoo, some of the most competitive features we
- 16:39have had are not those A features, but that B&C feature.
- 16:44And definitely, I mean, the C always comes with headlines too.
- 16:47So so talk a little bit about like the competition aspect,
- 16:50like how do you find yourself? I know you have a win this year,
- 16:53right? But how do you find yourself as
- 16:55champion in such a deep field? Like what did it take to get
- 16:58there? Really it's just surviving the
- 17:03sea feature. It's a lot of new racers always
- 17:08seem to, you know, nobody, they're not going to be fast
- 17:12enough to be in the B the first time out.
- 17:14So we usually get them and then it's trying to avoid them.
- 17:18But yeah, it's really just keeping your head on a swivel as
- 17:23much as you can and just trying to read 5 cars in front of you.
- 17:30Well, and a Buju is he pretends to be a racer.
- 17:33By the way, don't let him fool you.
- 17:34He but he raced his Hornets, which would be AC feature car
- 17:38over at Galesburg. That's why I was trying to tell
- 17:41people like I'm trying to convince new pairs to go to an
- 17:44ABC style and like you already are doing it.
- 17:46You just don't call it that, right, like it's already ABC,
- 17:49but you know, you know, there's that mentality.
- 17:51Oh, I'm in AC feature. I'm my car is not AC feature car
- 17:56where it's like, well, it still pays to go win and it still has
- 17:59all these things and you 3 champions instead of 2
- 18:02champions. So it's one more champion for
- 18:03everybody, right. But you know, with that this
- 18:06year you debuted a new car or a new look.
- 18:09I mean definitely a new look too.
- 18:11So you know, last year you had like your golden nugget that I
- 18:15think a lot of people fell in love with.
- 18:17This year you went a little different.
- 18:18So if you want to even talk a little bit about your card
- 18:21history and and why the number 24, where that came from and
- 18:25even how you got into it, because as I was talking with
- 18:27your dad yesterday, I'm like, well, I know John or not John.
- 18:31Dad shot Bo. I know Bo was like first to
- 18:35race. So then like, yeah, how'd you
- 18:37get in a car? So I know I threw a lot at you
- 18:39at once. Take it however you want.
- 18:41Chew on it whichever way you want first.
- 18:43But like, yeah, no, you're all in one.
- 18:47Really, the number 24, me and my brother, we wouldn't, we've
- 18:51argued about giving it up. Neither of us were giving it up,
- 18:54but it's a family number. It's, I mean greats and greats
- 18:59and greats have had it. So we just, we like to hold on
- 19:03to a little bit of tradition, but.
- 19:09I did the Golden Nugget and then the car this year, yeah.
- 19:13Really. The golden turd, Golden Nugget,
- 19:16we called it. It was not supposed to be my car
- 19:20at all. I, the first race at Galesburg
- 19:24last year, I, I wrecked the first lap.
- 19:28So we had to find something quick and it was a quick, you
- 19:31know, $500 car. And we raced it the way it
- 19:36looked, you know, had people signing on autograph night,
- 19:39which was pretty cool. But then we changed it this year
- 19:44and my dad's always, he's been into like stereo competitions
- 19:48and stuff like that. And he always made his cars look
- 19:51cool. And I just always remember him
- 19:53having this purple and yellow car.
- 19:56And I just, I kind of went off of that.
- 19:57I was like, it's what I want to do.
- 19:59And my dad was like, oh, we're doing that.
- 20:02The purple and yellow definitely was my probably my favorite car
- 20:06we've done. Yeah, I well, I think I was
- 20:09telling you that too. I'm like, man, this is a solid
- 20:12looking car, like it stands out, it's sharp looking like it
- 20:15doesn't look like a front wheel drive right.
- 20:17It looks super solid and but you know that gold car man that had
- 20:23personality too to it. And and so with that too, you
- 20:27know, a lot of times you also carry an American flag and then
- 20:29I'm going to toss it over to Buju after this.
- 20:31But you know, you always have an American flag, you know, that's
- 20:34riding along with you too. So is there any any reason for
- 20:37like the American flag riding along with you too?
- 20:40Or is it one of those like patriotic USA or is there a
- 20:43family connection? Like, what's the story behind
- 20:45the American flag that always is riding in your cars?
- 20:48Really we just, we like to hold on to the tradition kind of
- 20:52thing. In the first year, 4th of July,
- 20:55I put one on my car and then after that I kept it on for the
- 20:58rest of the year. And that's what we've done for
- 21:00the last two years is waited till 4th of July and then left
- 21:04it on after that to support, you know, America and oh, everybody
- 21:09loves, you know. Yeah, you can't go wrong with
- 21:12the American flag, right? But that's where I thought, you
- 21:14know, sort of story, like is there a military connection or
- 21:17is there some kind of something, you know, with that?
- 21:20Because I'm like, I know like Ronnie, right?
- 21:22He runs a flag and, you know, he's a firefighter and you have
- 21:25a couple others who have like members.
- 21:26So I'm like, what's your story with that?
- 21:28Because I actually haven't asked you that in person.
- 21:30So. But I'm starting to think wait
- 21:33the flag I should ask about that before I hand it off to Buju.
- 21:35So. But I will to from 1 front front
- 21:39wheel drive racer to another I will hand it off.
- 21:43Well, First off, congratulations on the championship.
- 21:46Thank. You Second going to the chat
- 21:48here, Sabrina Sabrina Beebe wants to ask about the time you
- 21:51were on a hook and you got her in trouble.
- 21:55Time on a hook. Yeah.
- 21:57You're on the hook and you got her.
- 21:59I've got, I feel like I've gotten Sabrina in a lot of
- 22:01trouble. Fair.
- 22:02Enough. Can't Barrow it down.
- 22:04So you've raised Kalamazoo in Galesburg.
- 22:07What other tracks are on your list?
- 22:08What? What?
- 22:08Where else do you want to? Hit.
- 22:11I've raced at Owosso one time and then Mottville was the first
- 22:15ever track I like ever practiced on.
- 22:18And then I didn't race, I just practice.
- 22:20But I, I kind of want to travel next year.
- 22:23Kind of not sure what you know is up the works for next year,
- 22:27but I would like to try to, you know, new tracks.
- 22:31And we went to Corrigan yesterday and I've never been
- 22:34there and that was awesome to watch.
- 22:36My brother raced it and that would be a fun track to race.
- 22:42But yeah, I don't know. So some family history in racing
- 22:46and so did you race against your brother?
- 22:47Sorry, I'm not all that familiar.
- 22:48I'm not. Galesburg is a little out of my
- 22:50reach, so I don't not all that familiar.
- 22:52So do you race against your brother?
- 22:54My brother is in the street stack now.
- 22:57OK, I got. You.
- 22:58Yep. So there's a lot of, so there's
- 23:00some family history in racing. You think that gave you a little
- 23:02bit of an edge when you started your career?
- 23:05He raced one year before me so. And we got so you got a few
- 23:10notes. Yeah, we didn't have anybody in
- 23:13the family racing before that. We had some friends from Mad Dog
- 23:19Racing that we've we've grew up around and we wanted to give it
- 23:23a try and, you know, see how things went and we fell in love
- 23:27with it. So we haven't stopped.
- 23:29So do you think that was an extra challenge going into it
- 23:31without a family history and racing?
- 23:32I that's something I feel like I noticed a lot is the people who
- 23:35come in without a background and are like most people, their dad
- 23:39raced and then their grandfather raced for him.
- 23:41You don't have, you didn't have that case.
- 23:42So was that an extra challenge for you guys?
- 23:44Oh yeah, it's definitely, it was a learning everything.
- 23:49Like we didn't, we went out there not knowing, you know, the
- 23:53tires had to be different. You know everything.
- 23:55And you know, it's a whole new ball game coming into it and
- 23:59really it's finding friends and who will help you out and it's
- 24:04really cool. The racing community is awesome.
- 24:07So how did you find? How did you get involved in
- 24:09racing in the 1st place? How did you find it?
- 24:12Like I said, the our Mad Dog racing, so like Bob Garrett,
- 24:17Chris Garrett, we've we grew up with, you know, racing around
- 24:21them and watching them race. Gotcha.
- 24:23So. Jumping through them, I got just
- 24:26understood that first part, no? So if you could name one person
- 24:30that you wouldn't be where you are today without, who would
- 24:33that be? Oh, definitely my my dad.
- 24:37He he does everything for me, top down, bottom, sideways.
- 24:43I I definitely couldn't ask for a better one, that's for sure.
- 24:47All right. My last question, I'll throw it
- 24:49back to Lewis. What's your next big goal?
- 24:51You got championship under your belt now, congratulations once
- 24:54again, but you got what's the next one?
- 24:56What's the next big circle that you got?
- 24:57What do you want to do next in a race car?
- 24:59Yeah, really, I think I want to move up class.
- 25:02I think, you know, might as well have a little bit more fun with
- 25:07it and see if I can do any better, get any faster.
- 25:09Maybe we'll see about a new car 'cause I might have blown it up
- 25:13the last night. So, yeah, so it's all kind of up
- 25:18in the air for next year. But that's what we're going to
- 25:21shoot for is trying to go into the B class and just see what we
- 25:25can do. Well, and that's again that
- 25:29front wheel drive group over at Galesburg and even that Callum
- 25:32is you and I'm next year at Springport when Spring Park is
- 25:35back online, right? I mean, it's so deep and I don't
- 25:38think a lot of people give it credit, right?
- 25:40I know a lot of times, you know, people here front wheel drive
- 25:43racing and sometimes I think the people who judge front wheel
- 25:46drive racing forget that they used to be a front wheel drive
- 25:49racer, right? Like you got to start somewhere
- 25:52and like Buju and I have talked and we both agree on this like
- 25:55we don't view the front wheel drives as an entry class like
- 25:57it's a great class to get into, but if you hang around there for
- 26:01a bit, there's nothing wrong with that, right?
- 26:03Like it's fine to be a front wheel drive racer.
- 26:05There are people who have front wheel drive race for decades
- 26:08now, right, and it's like that they it's more expensive stuff.
- 26:16So but with that, you know, you talked about your goals for 2027
- 26:20and obviously you have a big team behind you.
- 26:23I know when you've you and Bo have had so much success on the
- 26:28track and so many different ways, right, It may not always
- 26:30be winning that feature, but it you know, really good runs or
- 26:34solid finishes and you can hear the crowd supporting you.
- 26:38So if you want to shout out, you know people who are our
- 26:42marketing partners with your 24 car, people who just support in
- 26:46general that you look forward to seeing at the track every week
- 26:49and and all that kind of deal. So if you want to do some of
- 26:51those shout outs. Yeah, Twisted Automotive, he's
- 26:56one of my big sponsors. I gosh, I have so many sponsors,
- 27:01but really my family that comes out for me every week is huge
- 27:07for me. I've, I don't know if I could
- 27:09race without, you know, having them support me and screaming
- 27:13for me and, you know, just really everybody that has gained
- 27:18to like me, I don't know anybody down in turn 1.
- 27:22And every time I get out of my car, they're hooting and
- 27:25hollering. And I just think it's really the
- 27:27coolest thing. And seeing all the kids come up
- 27:29is, is really what's the coolest thing.
- 27:33Well, we even talked yesterday too, right, that, you know, you
- 27:37are a female racer, right? Like it's it's 2026 and it kind
- 27:42of sucks to still have to think about like male racers and
- 27:44female racers. But you know, there's even
- 27:46though there's more now, you know, like who comes from an
- 27:49area where, you know, Cindy Extremi was like the trailblazer
- 27:53in that area, right? And so she had a race with the
- 27:56boys and and earned her stripes. And it's like, well, she's a
- 27:59school bus driver. She earned her stripes a long
- 28:01time ago. She doesn't take anybody out,
- 28:03right? You know, if she can survive a
- 28:04school bus, she can certainly survive a street stock race.
- 28:07But but with that, right, Like you're a female racer and
- 28:09although front wheel drives to Seymour racers, you know,
- 28:13Galesburg is not very common. Mottville had this, but not so
- 28:17much at other tracks. It's not very common to see a
- 28:19female champion. So what is it like for you?
- 28:22Because I've seen this from the roof and even at Galesburg to
- 28:25see, you know, the young female fans and even sometimes their
- 28:30moms and others, you know, women who are supporting on where I'm
- 28:33like, I don't think they're related because they're not
- 28:36wearing your shirts, but they're supporting.
- 28:38You're like go girl and all these things, right?
- 28:39So what is it like for you as you pass by or you're doing a
- 28:43wave lap to see like those little girls and everything, you
- 28:46know, cheering you on and and being ready because you know,
- 28:49we, we need more female representation still, even
- 28:53though it's 2026, we still need more in the sport.
- 28:55Yeah, yeah, that's honestly like the coolest thing.
- 28:59I always tend to get a little emotional when I see, you know,
- 29:03kids out there, you know, specifically waving at me and
- 29:07just, I can hear them sometimes when I, you know, fly by.
- 29:11And it's, it's unlike anything to have somebody look up to you
- 29:17like that, that you, you don't know who you know, who they are
- 29:20or you know where they come from or anything like that.
- 29:23And they don't know, you know, anything about you.
- 29:25And it's, it's really cool to get out of the car and they, you
- 29:29know, they realize, oh, she's a, she's a female.
- 29:32And it tends to be quite a hit. But I don't like to let it
- 29:38define me because I don't. I definitely don't act very
- 29:44feminine, but. Well, you don't have to.
- 29:48You'd just be you, right? That's what I always tell
- 29:50people. You'd just be you, right?
- 29:52You know, you know who's going to win and fight them or you,
- 29:55I'm going to probably pick you a lot of times, right?
- 29:57Like I'm like, I don't know if she's out there with front wheel
- 29:59drive racers who can sometimes be, you know, crazy.
- 30:02So she can handle them. She can definitely handle you.
- 30:05So, so, you know, again, it's one of those, you know, it's one
- 30:09of those awesome things that, you know, it, it's still, it's
- 30:12like, man, it's 2026 that you hate to think of it this way,
- 30:14but I mean, the history of Galesburg says that it's this
- 30:17way, right? That, you know, there's not been
- 30:20a lot of female champions. And so, you know, before we let
- 30:23you get going, which you didn't even think, right, You're a
- 30:25little nervous about this and you've done just fine.
- 30:27I know I. Calm down a little bit.
- 30:30So yeah, you just imagine you're on the racetrack.
- 30:32Apparently that's what works better than thinking you're in
- 30:34the pit lane or whatever, like, you know, But if you want to
- 30:38help us, the the production guy has to click the right graphic
- 30:42here. So give me a moment so I don't
- 30:44mess it up. But if you want to help us too
- 30:46with this trivia question before we do let you get going.
- 30:49So as we were saying, like at Galesburg, there's not a deep
- 30:52history of female champions. And So what I'm calling this new
- 30:58segment is the rewind brain Buster.
- 31:00So I'm hoping each week to have some kind of trivia from
- 31:04something or somewhere. Ron Brash may help me a little
- 31:06bit with this too. But again, it's how many years
- 31:09has it been since a female driver won a track championship
- 31:13at Galesburg? Bonus, name the champion.
- 31:16So our first options and a lot of people did guess was A 30
- 31:21years, B 13 years, C three years or D20 four years.
- 31:25And then of course the bonus was the the driver and is to pick
- 31:29from the 500 Sprint car tour racer Taylor Ferns, who has
- 31:33raced at Galesburg and in fact won a Sprint car race at
- 31:36Galesburg if I remember correctly.
- 31:38Tina Lewis, obviously she does a lot in short track racing right
- 31:41now, including managing all those super shoot camping sites
- 31:44that are going to be filled here in a couple weeks.
- 31:48Camille Lewis, daughter of Tina and also a pretty, I'm going to
- 31:52say the this isn't FCC regulated.
- 31:54So badass driver herself, Camille Lewis and then of
- 31:57course, Shirley Elliott, who has raced at Galesburg in the past.
- 32:01So Bree, since this question is about you, I'm going to hand it
- 32:06over to you and you can tell everybody the answer and the
- 32:10person and how that all relates back right to you all.
- 32:15Right. So it has been 24 years since
- 32:21the last female driver won the track championship and Tina
- 32:27Lewis is who won the track championship in 2002.
- 32:34This kind of is correlating to me because my crazy enough, my
- 32:39number is 24. I I will.
- 32:42I'm 24 years old, but yeah. So and you started in the year?
- 32:50Yes, I I did start racing in 2024, yeah.
- 32:54So 20 fours across the board. So that almost is like somebody
- 32:58needs to go play like the lottery or whatever, right.
- 33:00So, but with that, that's again it, you know, I'm so excited
- 33:06that you did come on and I that's where I'm like, I let
- 33:08your first response two a little bit where I'm like, OK, you
- 33:12know, I went to your dad and it's going to pull the nuclear
- 33:15option. And then I saw you in person
- 33:16yesterday. I'm like, well, and I did tell
- 33:18you I'm like, I did talk to your dad and I was going to pull a
- 33:20nuclear option, but I got to do it myself.
- 33:22So I'm so glad that you came on. You did so well.
- 33:25I mean, you've had a lot of people watching you in this time
- 33:28frame. So again, congratulations on
- 33:31your first track championship. You're definitely fun to watch
- 33:34out on the track. Well, thank you.
- 33:36Thank you guys so much. I had fun doing this for sure.
- 33:39So lots of Bree mode was engaged and so you know, I'm like, we
- 33:44should get that on AT shirt at some point.
- 33:47You know, I because obviously I like that nickname since I think
- 33:51I came up with it. But Oh yes, I'll be you, Louis.
- 33:54But but that's where again, you know, and when Bo gets out
- 33:57there, it's Bo time. So you know, we got to get Bo on
- 34:00here now you could tell him, Oh, it's not that awful.
- 34:02You can go and do it and you know, but again, you did such a
- 34:06fantastic job. So again, you know, enjoy this
- 34:09championship. I saw a cat jumping behind you a
- 34:11little bit, so I'm like. Yeah.
- 34:14Animals are welcome on here. We've had you know, we've had
- 34:17dogs and cats and all the things on here.
- 34:19So so again, that's where I appreciate you.
- 34:22Congratulations and and awesome. If there's anyone who can help
- 34:27represent Galesburg and give Galesburg the positive light
- 34:30that it does deserve, it's Someone Like You who can say
- 34:33like, hey, you know what? We know it might be a little
- 34:36rough around the edges, but there's a lot of awesome people
- 34:38here. I'm one of those people.
- 34:39Come watch us next year in 2027. Tame.
- 34:43Tame the Berg, as they call it so.
- 34:47Oh yes. Now Buju, anything good for the
- 34:50group before we let her off and she can do a big sigh of relief
- 34:53and be like OK, that wasn't as painful as I thought.
- 34:55No, I think, I think we covered you did good.
- 34:57So congratulations on that. Congratulations on the
- 34:59Championship once again and thank you for coming on.
- 35:02No, absolutely. Again, if you miss any part of
- 35:05this conversation, we have been talking with Brie Brady since
- 35:08about 7:10. We were 5 minutes late because I
- 35:10had to do some housekeeping notes at the beginning.
- 35:12But again, she is the driver of the 24 and she is the first pure
- 35:17stock front wheel drive champion since 2022.
- 35:21Female Tina Lewis of course was the last one to do that so
- 35:26started her career in 24. She is 24 races to 24 and it has
- 35:30been 24 years since that. But now a a new streak gets to
- 35:34start here. So again, if you miss any part
- 35:38of it once we're done live, you can always go back right here on
- 35:41Facebook and watch it again. I try to be very mindful of what
- 35:44I post on top of the podcast. So I'm usually wait close to 12
- 35:48to 24 hours before I post anything.
- 35:50You can see it on YouTube. It's also free on YouTube and
- 35:54Spotify, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts all over.
- 35:58So wherever you watch any of that or listen to any of that,
- 36:02you can listen to us in the car, wherever you can listen to the
- 36:06full interview. Again, it started about 10
- 36:08minutes into the show. We were 5 minutes late getting
- 36:11to Bri. But again, you did such a
- 36:12fantastic job. So thank you again.
- 36:15Thank you. Oh no.
- 36:17Nice talking to you guys. Now we're going to see you at
- 36:20Super Shoe at all. You said maybe not racing, but
- 36:22are we going to see you? We are going to try to get my
- 36:26car ready. So we are.
- 36:28Going for racing, but if not, we will definitely be there.
- 36:31We are racing or we're pitting with Sabrina, so.
- 36:34OK, so I get to so when I go make fun of Sabrina, I can go
- 36:38make fun of you at the same time.
- 36:40Yeah, yeah, yeah. I always like to give Brie a
- 36:43hard time, but I usually start with Sabrina first, so, and
- 36:46she's been on here a lot. She said it was your banner.
- 36:49It's on your banner when you got her in trouble.
- 36:52She's not kidding. The main 1 is on her banner so
- 36:54when you got her in trouble and you're on the hook or whatever,
- 36:57what did you what you what happened?
- 36:59Well, it was. I wasn't happy with my shirt and
- 37:04I asked her to change it and she had to go through a whole big
- 37:08thing with the company and oh boy.
- 37:10But it's all fixed now, so we're good.
- 37:13All right, Josh. Is Sabrina.
- 37:14Shirt is good, things are good. And, and I mean, and that's been
- 37:19awesome for you guys to have Sabrina over at Galesburg this
- 37:21year. You know, I'm, when she got her
- 37:23camera back right away, I went to her and I said, I want you to
- 37:26be a part of my team. And I've been bringing her on.
- 37:28And then this year, you know, she was just supposed to help
- 37:30with cameras at Kalamazoo. And before we knew it, she was
- 37:34like, Kalamazoo doesn't have a track photographer, but like
- 37:38they're a nights that she wasn't there taking photos.
- 37:40There would be 0 photos unless someone went out with her cell
- 37:42phone to do it. So, you know, definitely, you
- 37:46know, I'm a big fan of Sabrina. I'm so glad that she's able to
- 37:49help cover your season. Of course, now your championship
- 37:52is enshrined, you know, forever in digital media.
- 37:54Like can't take that away. We got the photos celebrating
- 37:57it. So again, congratulations, Bri,
- 38:00and we'll see you at Super Shoe. Yes.
- 38:04Thank you guys. No, thank you.
- 38:06So we're going to let the cat out of the bag here just a
- 38:09little bit. I got to click another graphic
- 38:11here. Nope, that's Sean Sprague.
- 38:13See, I'm messing it all up. Here we go.
- 38:15Oh, and then I did it to Bri again.
- 38:18I I am Boo boojoo. I just need to put him out of
- 38:21order. So I'm going to do that when we
- 38:23bring on Sean because it's just not working for me right now.
- 38:26It feels like it's playing. Roulette with the graphics.
- 38:27Over yeah I was yeah it's been a while though it has been a while
- 38:32since like I've been clip happy over here but I.
- 38:34Weekend and a long day. Yeah, well, yeah, just long day
- 38:37in itself. But when I came up with the
- 38:40rewind, we were light. I had I did not know that Bella
- 38:43had passed away. So then after I found out Bella
- 38:46passed away, I'm like, oh, now I got to come up with this because
- 38:48I already advertised it. So it's not good timing on
- 38:51anything but. But anyways, we're doing a new
- 38:55segment tonight because after we get off with Sean, I thought we
- 38:59can close a little bit with discussion to bring in a little
- 39:01bit of Thursday night throttle. So I'm calling it the rewind.
- 39:05Oh my gosh, words rewind roulette wheel say that fast,
- 39:09actually. Like that's yeah, yeah, I'm just
- 39:12going to take credit that that's tough.
- 39:14And so we're not going to say it fast ever.
- 39:15But we'll have a special or we'll have several topics of
- 39:19discussion. The wheel will be spun and
- 39:22whatever topic is chosen, Louis and Buju will discuss or debate.
- 39:27Share your thoughts in the comments along with us when we
- 39:30get there. So the wheel will decide what we
- 39:33talk about. And so I will give you a preview
- 39:35while we have everyone on. This is why, again, I put Sean
- 39:38at 7:45. So it gave us a little bit of
- 39:40runtime to preview this. So our topics of discussion, let
- 39:46me click here really quick. I won't show the wheel, but
- 39:50there. So Buju, this gives you an idea
- 39:53so you'll have some time to kind of think about it.
- 39:55It's going to be true or false. Outlaw Super Late Model racing
- 39:58will still exist within five years.
- 40:02The second topic that we might talk about, a driver goes to
- 40:05social media and bashes a track. The track notifies them they are
- 40:09no longer allowed to race there for the rest of the season, but
- 40:12the driver comes crawling back, as they always do.
- 40:16I didn't put that, I'm actually improvising on those words, but
- 40:18you know it's true. I'll never race here again and
- 40:22within a week their messaging I want to come back.
- 40:23So anyways, should the track with them back or let them sit
- 40:28out a year and have thoughts to themselves?
- 40:30Front wheel drive racers? This is third topic.
- 40:33Front wheel drive racers often note that they do not have big
- 40:36shows and comment on how they bring people.
- 40:40Is it true that a front wheel drive race would bring more
- 40:42people than AV8 race #4 this or that 100 lap late model feature
- 40:49or A50 lap St. Stock feature?
- 40:52And we could talk why or why not for the this or that topic #5
- 40:57that we may talk about is Mount Rushmore 2.0.
- 41:00Who are your top 4 drivers from 2026?
- 41:05And then yeah, see. And then topic number six
- 41:09segment racing. Should short tracks adopt
- 41:12segment racing for special events?
- 41:14Example, Kalamazoo Clash becomes a 200 lap race broken into two
- 41:19to three segments. So those are the four or those
- 41:23are the six topics that we may or may not talk about.
- 41:29Well, I mean we'll talk about one of them, but those are the
- 41:31preview for your first rewind roulette where the wheel decides
- 41:37what we talked about. So I figure it's fair since I
- 41:40didn't tell you I was doing it and then after I said we were
- 41:45going to do it and then obviously the news, I wasn't
- 41:48ready to talk about it yet. So so anyways, that's a little
- 41:52bit of a preview since it was a bit of a secret from you.
- 41:54So now I'm going to move the graphics really quick.
- 41:56So I click the right one this time.
- 41:59So before we get there and bring Sean on.
- 42:02So any what topic do you hope we land on?
- 42:06Man, there's some good ones in there.
- 42:07The Mount Rushmore one would be really tough.
- 42:09I almost hope we don't get that one because I don't know if I
- 42:11could. I don't know if I could come up
- 42:12with. Four names.
- 42:13That's all you get, buddy. Yeah, that would, yeah.
- 42:17But yeah, there's some good topics in there, it'd be hard to
- 42:19choose. Well, and if anyone in the
- 42:21comments section wants to say what 1 you hope we land on or
- 42:24what one we talk about, because I want while we're talk about
- 42:27it, I want everyone in the comments to be talking about it
- 42:29too. I want them to help be a part of
- 42:31that discussion where, you know, we can show their show their
- 42:35thoughts on, you know, the show as well.
- 42:39But that's where I thought bring a little bit of our discussion
- 42:42that we usually save for the last 20 minutes of the RE or the
- 42:45throttle, kind of bring that over, but do it a little
- 42:47different, You know, have a topic.
- 42:49And then what we'll do is that when we pick a topic, I will
- 42:53save it for the following week where that one will be removed.
- 42:56But a similar category. So think of like Jeopardy.
- 42:59So like, let's say we do get the Mount Rushmore tonight, then
- 43:03next week it would still it would still be Mount Rushmore
- 43:072.0. But it might be like, you know,
- 43:09who's your all time late model list or who's your all time St.
- 43:12stock list or, or, you know, what's your top four race tracks
- 43:16or whatever it may be like we'll think of Mount Rushmore for each
- 43:19time. Or if it's the front wheel drive
- 43:21one, it'll be, you know, something like, you know,
- 43:25something related that is pulled from Facebook posts and
- 43:28discussions that I just see all the time where I'm like, oh,
- 43:31that which is the inspiration between a lot of these.
- 43:34Like a lot of people talk about the outlaw and the health of the
- 43:36outlaws right now. So I thought, well, that's
- 43:39definitely a a topic of conversation, especially, you
- 43:42know, as reveal, you know, starts to plan their 2027 year,
- 43:46but it's like, but is it going to be around 5 years from now?
- 43:49Maybe maybe not. Do we have reasoning?
- 43:51So, so that's what the Rewind roulette would be.
- 43:54So again, everyone in the comments can participate with
- 43:57the topic. Or if you have an idea and you
- 43:59want me to include that in the roulette wheel, I'll throw it on
- 44:03there, right. So we can always talk about the
- 44:04health of the Sprint car world in terms of asphalt, because
- 44:09obviously we had John Boy Hotchkiss on a few weeks ago who
- 44:12operates tri-state experiences owner.
- 44:15But now I'm so excited to bring on Sean here in just a few
- 44:19seconds, maybe a minute or so, Sean to not only see their
- 44:24manager, like he helps manage the day-to-day operations, that
- 44:27kind of deal, but he's there in social media, but he's also
- 44:31their series announcer. So he gets to know the drivers
- 44:33on a on a you know, real close level too.
- 44:37But in his announcing career, right, we've had a lot of
- 44:40announcers on so far this year. And so I thought it would be
- 44:42cool to have our next announcer on, especially for anyone who
- 44:47does announce, and this isn't just you thing or wants to
- 44:49announce. They can learn from someone who
- 44:51just retired a lot. Semi retired last year from full
- 44:54time announcing and he's been all over and done a lot of
- 44:57different things. So if you're ready, we're we're
- 45:00almost on time now, right? We are a little behind, but
- 45:02we're almost, you know, on time here with 745 before we bring
- 45:06them on because we have about 30 seconds again.
- 45:09Don't forget Thursday we will have the throttle back to
- 45:13preview the upcoming weekend and we'll talk champions because
- 45:16almost every track now has her champion crown, but we have 3
- 45:19champions left to crown and that's the trifecta champions.
- 45:23And then October 1st we're back, October 15th we're back and
- 45:26October 29th we're back. And then after that on
- 45:29Thursdays. This is Thursday specific, the
- 45:32flagship Monday night rewinds not going anywhere.
- 45:34That will always be on Mondays except for last week when it was
- 45:36on Wednesday. But I don't regret that though I
- 45:38got home at 5:00 from Grundy and I was the I would have been
- 45:42worthless by the Showtime so. So I actually don't regret
- 45:47moving it to last last Wednesday, but I know it wasn't
- 45:50our it wasn't a strong episode in that case, right?
- 45:53We kind of knew what we were up against.
- 45:54But Dalton did a great job though, you know, Co hosting I.
- 45:57Haven't listened yet. I I was worried about getting
- 46:00replaced by Dalton. So not yet.
- 46:02I almost actually reached out to him to say hey, but he has his
- 46:05baby's coming up this week. So they're they're having a
- 46:09baby. So I didn't even bother to reach
- 46:10out. But earlier with going through
- 46:12everything. Your priorities in line, Dalton.
- 46:14Yeah. Well, that that is a priority,
- 46:16though, but but you know, why don't we go ahead?
- 46:20It is now 745. So why don't we go ahead and
- 46:22bring on Sean Sprague from the tri-state sprints.
- 46:27So again, Oh, I did it again here we go.
- 46:29I just. There we go.
- 46:31But so welcome, Sean to the to the Monday night Rewind.
- 46:36I know obviously we had John Boy Hotchkiss on here.
- 46:38I have a couple of your drivers who I will be getting scheduled
- 46:41over the next couple weeks to bring them on so we can keep
- 46:44tri-state in the conversation. But you are the voice, you know
- 46:50of the tri-state Sprint. So but with that you have a also
- 46:55lengthy career and announcing and doing a lot of things at a
- 46:58racetrack. So as you know, you're on when
- 47:00we were with Bree, you've watched the show before.
- 47:02You know what we do. So you know the softball
- 47:04question that we always start our conversation office.
- 47:07So for those watching who may not know who Sean Sprague is or
- 47:10heard you on the mic or they may have heard you, but they're
- 47:14like, that's what he looks like. Because that happens too, right?
- 47:16Like they're race card. He'll come up to me.
- 47:18I'm like, you're not in a race suit.
- 47:20I don't know what you look like. And now I do, but usually have a
- 47:25helmet in a suit on and you're not next to your car.
- 47:27So. But anyway, so who is Sean's
- 47:30break? So thank you, Louis, Thank you
- 47:33Buju for inviting me to come on this.
- 47:35This is great. I'm I'm happy to be here.
- 47:38I'm Sean Sprague. I've been announcing since 2007.
- 47:41Prior to that, I started working in the concession stand.
- 47:45In 2005. Jim Leisure rated like came up
- 47:48to me in the grandstands at Corrigan and said, you want a
- 47:51job. And I said sure.
- 47:53So he put me in the concession stand, flipped burgers, made
- 47:56popcorn, hot dogs, elephant sticks and French fries, all
- 48:00that stuff. And then, you know, a couple of
- 48:03years went by and I'm like, I missed the racing.
- 48:06You know, I got a 15 minute meal break to go out and watch, but
- 48:09then I had to go back and cook. So I was like, you know, I want
- 48:12to, I wonder how somebody becomes an announcer.
- 48:15I got really curious, went to Big Ed in Lowe's, who was the
- 48:18voice at Corrigan at the time. Spartan Speedway, as some of you
- 48:22guys remember that from the early 2000s and beyond that of
- 48:26course, Lansing Speedway celebrated the 70th anniversary
- 48:28yesterday, which was pretty cool.
- 48:30But anyway, asked them at the awards banquet in 2006, how does
- 48:36a guy become an announcer? And he said, well, if you're
- 48:38serious, call me New Year's Day in 2007 and we'll talk.
- 48:42We actually talked for about I think half an hour to an hour.
- 48:46And he says, you know, you're giving up your summer.
- 48:47I said, I already am. I'm working in the concession
- 48:50stand. So out of the concession stand
- 48:53up to the tower at at Corrigan. It was our opening night and my
- 49:00opening night. I'll never forget it because
- 49:01Stan Perry passed away on my opening night.
- 49:04So that was tough there. But the Outlaw Super Late Models
- 49:08and then we went to Springport the following night because that
- 49:11was our sister track. Jim Leisure owned both those
- 49:13race tracks at the time. So it came time for qualifying.
- 49:18Big Ed wanted a smoke break, hands me his notes, his he's got
- 49:22this big huge like handwritten notepad, can't even read out of
- 49:27it really, because the writing was really small, trying to fit
- 49:29drivers in there. So I'm reading off the driver
- 49:31information, announcing lap times.
- 49:34And I thought, you know, I told myself, I thought the deal was I
- 49:37wasn't going to get on the mic until a couple years from now.
- 49:41And he said, dude, you got the gift.
- 49:42He said, I, I knew I knew you had, I knew you knew what you
- 49:45were doing. Just he said, I had it in mind.
- 49:48I was just going to throw you on the mic.
- 49:49So that's been going on since 2007 and as Lewis mentioned, I
- 49:54decided last year to go into semi retirement and leave
- 49:58working at race tracks full time.
- 49:59I've raised, I've worked at Angola Motorsports Speedway,
- 50:02I-96 Speedway to a little dirt. Oh jeez.
- 50:07Went with Great Lakes Super Mini Cups announced with them for a
- 50:09little while. That was my technically my first
- 50:11gig was with them. Announced at Birch Run Speedway,
- 50:16Auto City, Toledo, Flat Rock. Announced at Angola with them as
- 50:22well, of course. Corrigan, Springport.
- 50:25God, I've been all over the place.
- 50:28So you get around. I get around.
- 50:30Yeah, I think we just talked about that.
- 50:35But I mean, obviously, you know, to have a a career that long
- 50:39right and announcing and to be still, you know, doing it even
- 50:43in semi retirement, I mean, you have to know something, right?
- 50:47And, and one thing that I've always been impressed with is
- 50:50the system that you've employed, you know, with your iPad and
- 50:55walking around. So, you know, we've had Will
- 50:58Greenwald or Green, yeah, Greenwald on here.
- 51:01We've had, you know, Jeremy Wardinger.
- 51:03We've had obviously Buju announced a little bit a couple
- 51:06times this year at new pairs. We've had Frank Grasco, Wayne
- 51:11Bond, right. We've had a lot of announcers on
- 51:13here already. And so for you and Joel, you
- 51:17know, don't want to forget Joel, you know, but for you, you know,
- 51:20when Joel first got the gig at Kalamazoo, full time gig, right
- 51:25when everything went down, you know, I had suggested like,
- 51:29well, you know, Sean has a really awesome system, you know,
- 51:32where you walk around the pit. So if you want to talk a little
- 51:34bit about like what you do, cuz even April is on here, I know
- 51:38they're recovering from a really stellar and long night of front
- 51:42wheel drive racing at Corrigan last night.
- 51:45I, I felt, I felt bad a little bit for them because I'm like,
- 51:49man, you know, I bragged up how quick everything goes and none
- 51:53of that was quick with the front wheel drives.
- 51:55But you know, they did get a first time winner for the third
- 51:58year in a row, if I remember correctly, with Ethan Williams
- 52:00winning. So, and obviously bigger money
- 52:03was on the line. I just, there's a lot of weird
- 52:06stuff happened that usually doesn't happen at Corrigan.
- 52:08But beyond that, I, so I know they're recovering because we
- 52:10all got home late. And but if you want to talk a
- 52:13little bit about your system, what you do what and how you do
- 52:17it when you're going around the pit area to get to know drivers,
- 52:19because April said this man is the Rain Man of racing.
- 52:22His memory of racism, drivers names and cars is beyond
- 52:26impressive. And that's something that, you
- 52:28know, you're purposeful about that.
- 52:30So peel the onion back for us. Absolutely.
- 52:34Hi, April, first of all, my sister-in-law said that when she
- 52:38first met me, she called me the rain manner racing too.
- 52:42For me, it's all about the details.
- 52:44It's all in the details. Honestly, I could, I can walk up
- 52:46to a car and tell you just by looking at it who had it last
- 52:51and so on. It's it's the little things.
- 52:54That's what you got to keep an eye on, especially as an
- 52:57announcer. The details, the eye is in the
- 53:00details, everything. But Louis, as you mentioned,
- 53:03yes, I do have a system. What I do is I like to meet the
- 53:06new drivers first. They're they're their first
- 53:08priority to me. Any new driver, I walk up,
- 53:12introduce myself. I'm not afraid to go in the hall
- 53:14or either and ask which one of you guys is the driver.
- 53:17And usually you know, the whole crew.
- 53:19It's great. They point at the driver and
- 53:21I'll introduce myself and I'll say Sean Sprague.
- 53:23I'm the announcer here at the track or now announcer for
- 53:25tri-state Sprints. I just got to get some
- 53:27information from you real quick. It won't take very long.
- 53:30Ask first and last name, hometown sponsor, starting with
- 53:34their biggest sponsor. Go on down from there now,
- 53:38Michigan Cup This year, since I am announcing Cup, I will ask
- 53:42accolades from the season that they want mentioned.
- 53:45Rookie of the Year championship, what they're basically what
- 53:50their career looked like. You know, like how many
- 53:52championship have got in the past.
- 53:54That's the stuff I want to know because if we're under a long
- 53:56yellow, that's stuff I want to share with the crowd to make
- 53:59them, get them engaged a little bit even.
- 54:01What do you do for a living? Does a lot of people think that
- 54:05race car drivers, that's all they do is drive a car, which
- 54:09not true. I have a day job myself.
- 54:11I work at Michigan State University as a maintenance
- 54:14worker at Shaw Hall. So we all have day jobs.
- 54:18Well, most of us have day jobs, But you know, that's, that's the
- 54:22things that's a fan wants to know.
- 54:24That's what they're curious about, you know, and I'm, I'm
- 54:28basically, I'm going to say what my mentor said, what Big Ed
- 54:30said. I'm a fan who picked up a
- 54:32microphone. That's it.
- 54:34I like to think of it as I'm sitting next to you and I'm
- 54:36explaining to you what's going on.
- 54:40Dan Roy Greenwald say something like that too.
- 54:43Like pretty similar, like a fan who picked someone said
- 54:46something something not exact but similar and fans.
- 54:49And talk to them. Yep, and I thought that, you
- 54:52know, that's pretty cool because again, you know, obviously Sean,
- 54:54you know, and Boozer knows this too, right.
- 54:56Racing, short track racing especially has a lot of die hard
- 54:59fans, right, Die hard too, you know, you know, rain, sleet,
- 55:03snow, shine. They're like the mailman.
- 55:05They're going to be there, right.
- 55:07But then, you know, we are trying to get into a world too
- 55:10where they're not only are there casual fans, but we're trying to
- 55:13get new fans, right. And sometimes new fans come into
- 55:17the track. May not they may not know what's
- 55:20in front of them, right. So you know, while and I know,
- 55:24and I've been next to these fans for sometimes they dislike when
- 55:26announcers explaining something like you tell us that every
- 55:28single week. And it's like in my head, it's
- 55:31like, well, but someone here might be hearing it for the
- 55:35first time, right? They might they don't know that
- 55:38you've said it 9000 other times prior to this, right?
- 55:41They're hearing it for the first time.
- 55:43So for you, you know, what is it that you know when you're
- 55:47pointing out a race, when you're announcing a race, what is it
- 55:50that you're really looking for? Are you following the leader?
- 55:54Are you following the action? Are you trying to put little
- 55:56tidbits in there while you're following you know the car
- 55:59you're talking about? Like what is it that is your
- 56:02style? So what I like as a fan growing
- 56:07up, I always like to see the big battles going on 345 wide, you
- 56:12know, So if you ever hear me on the mic, I will say we got three
- 56:15wide action going into turn 3. So I want those fans to look at
- 56:19turn three. If I tell them to look at turn
- 56:213, I want you to look there because that's where the racing
- 56:24is happening. It's not.
- 56:25I mean, if a leader's pulling away, I try to, I keep an eye on
- 56:29the leader, but I'm also watching the I'm scanning the
- 56:31track too, to see where other battles are going on just so I
- 56:34can stay ahead of the action. And also to give the fans, you
- 56:38know, like I said, it's all about the fans and get keeping
- 56:41them engaged in the program. The minute you lose them,
- 56:44they're gone. That's it.
- 56:45So, so for me, it's looking for those battles, those hard fought
- 56:50battles. And honestly, yesterday they
- 56:52were all over their accordion. For the Motörhead, Oh my
- 56:56goodness, I don't know how Chris kept.
- 56:58Everything straight last night, but he did a great job.
- 57:01But man, the battles were just all over the place and it was a
- 57:05great show. And and like I said, as as an
- 57:08announcer, I'll raise my voice, I'll get loud just to just to
- 57:12make sure that those fans are looking where I want them to
- 57:14look. It's kind of like when you said
- 57:17when you get loud, then you got the dog barking at the same
- 57:19time. I'm like, it's like you're like
- 57:22you're like, you know, sister actor on cue.
- 57:25You're getting ready to direct the band there because you went
- 57:27like this and then the barking started.
- 57:29But yeah, but you know, so with that, right, obviously in semi
- 57:34retirement you stayed busy as an announcer and and helping with,
- 57:38you know, managing the tri-state sprints.
- 57:41And so you've gotten to announce the most competitive asphalt is
- 57:45Sprint car racing around right now.
- 57:46And so why don't we? Yeah, Yeah.
- 57:50Did I say it right? Hold on the most.
- 57:52I did say it right, Yeah. I.
- 57:53Said you did. Yeah.
- 57:54Yeah. Yeah, I'm like, wait, now I'm
- 57:57reading the shirt. You made me think second, but
- 58:00but with that, why don't you know, if you want to talk a
- 58:02little bit about what it's been like for you?
- 58:04Because obviously, you know, they came to Springport in 2024
- 58:09and you know, they put on an incredible show and I think they
- 58:12just had a few stops that year. Last year rain kind of impacted
- 58:16some of their shows, but you joined on and you helped them a
- 58:20little bit and then this year you just really focused on them.
- 58:23So what has it been like for you to see not only the growth of
- 58:26the the Tri-state Sprints, but then competitive show?
- 58:28Because if anyone who's watched it at Kalamazoo or watched it at
- 58:32Corrigan Oil, the couple times they've been there, they're
- 58:35they're that's true. They're competitives.
- 58:38And so if you want to talk a little bit about that and then
- 58:40I'm going to talk after you when you're done answering that, Buju
- 58:44will take over from there. All right.
- 58:46Sounds good. Yeah, No, it's.
- 58:48It's been great. I've been working for John Boy
- 58:51technically since he started the series when I could.
- 58:55Obviously, you know, I was at Springport and Corrigan, but
- 58:58hopefully the first year that's all they have.
- 59:00Springport, Oregon. So it worked out great.
- 59:02To be a part of the inaugural season for me as an announcer
- 59:06was absolutely humbling. I mean, how cool is that?
- 59:09I get to announce a brand new series, you know?
- 59:12And then helping John Boy when I could.
- 59:15I've been working behind the scenes helping John, like I
- 59:19said, when I, when I could, you know, I told him, I told John, I
- 59:22said, unfortunately Springport and Corrigan are my primary
- 59:24focuses. And then of course, last year
- 59:27switching gears and going to Auto City to race direct and
- 59:30announce at Corrigan. But again, still helping John
- 59:33when I had the time and when I could put stuff together, put
- 59:36some media stuff together for him and so on.
- 59:38But but yeah, this year, what a great year.
- 59:44Definitely, definitely one of our best in my opinion.
- 59:47And I couldn't think of a better series to work for, a better guy
- 59:50to work for. I love working for John.
- 59:51John is really great to work for.
- 59:54But yeah, I mean, running, have a super modified light sprints
- 59:57and 410 sprints running together, but running a
- 1:00:01competitive rule package that levels the playing field so
- 1:00:04everybody has an equal shot. I mean, we didn't.
- 1:00:07Well, we did have a repeat winner, but you know, it's going
- 1:00:11to happen. But you know, with our series,
- 1:00:14it is so great. To talk to a different winner
- 1:00:17each week and at a different venue, going to Whittemore,
- 1:00:21Anderson, it was just amazing to step outgoing.
- 1:00:25But going back to Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo is that one of my
- 1:00:28favorite tracks. Of course, going home to
- 1:00:31Corrigan twice this year. That was that was great too.
- 1:00:34But you know, I've I thank John. Profusely for the.
- 1:00:39Opportunity and I love working for him, Dave and Dora.
- 1:00:43How of course they come on board.
- 1:00:44They're helping us now as well. We're getting momentum.
- 1:00:48We're not. We're not slowing down, we're
- 1:00:49not stopping. We're out there looking for new
- 1:00:52venues. Like John said before, we're
- 1:00:54looking, we're searching. We want some different and I
- 1:00:59know our drivers are on board with us too.
- 1:01:00They want to go to different places.
- 1:01:02So we're always open to searching for new tracks to go
- 1:01:05to, new venues and of course venues that want us to come
- 1:01:09back, of course we're going to take them on too.
- 1:01:13So, as Lewis mentioned, I've dipped.
- 1:01:15My toe into announcement a little bit.
- 1:01:17I don't consider myself an announcer.
- 1:01:18I consider myself a field announcer.
- 1:01:20So what's what would be your tip to somebody like new who's like
- 1:01:23I said just just starting to figure this stuff out.
- 1:01:26I think I'm 4 gigs in at this point.
- 1:01:28OK, well. Welcome to the.
- 1:01:30Brotherhood, first of all, thank you.
- 1:01:32And pretty much that's what it is.
- 1:01:34With. Me, I don't, you know, it's when
- 1:01:40I don't, I don't feel like I have an.
- 1:01:42Ego on me. A lot of announcers do,
- 1:01:45especially when you travel, there's going to be a few
- 1:01:47announcers that'll that'll kind of like, I'm going to say like
- 1:01:51like pee on their territory, like dogs.
- 1:01:54Do you know, like this is my this is my tower, you know, but
- 1:01:58I have, I've witnessed that before.
- 1:02:01So I know what it's like. But with you just starting out,
- 1:02:06you know, do your homework, study your drivers, get to know
- 1:02:10your promoter you're working for, your general manager, work
- 1:02:13alongside them, your race director as well.
- 1:02:16Get to know the rules. Rules are big.
- 1:02:19Know the rules, live them, know what's going on.
- 1:02:23And then so you can also tell the fans too.
- 1:02:25But also make sure you're not giving out false information
- 1:02:28either. I've heard that so many times it
- 1:02:30makes me cringe. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
- 1:02:33Study the names of the. Drivers, you know.
- 1:02:35And that's why I talked to the drivers because they will tell
- 1:02:38you your first, their first and last name.
- 1:02:40If you have to spell it phonetically, don't spell it the
- 1:02:43way that they tell you it's spelled.
- 1:02:46Spell it so, you know, I mean, it's just your notes, right?
- 1:02:49No one's going to see it but you.
- 1:02:50No one's going to know but you the correct information.
- 1:02:56It's crucial. Make sure it's all correct.
- 1:02:59Make sure your IS are dotted T's are crossed.
- 1:03:02You know, the last thing you want is a fan bombarding the
- 1:03:06tower and saying Buju, that's wrong.
- 1:03:08And I'm going to tell you why that's wrong.
- 1:03:10You want to make sure those fans are having a good time as well.
- 1:03:13You're a DJ, you're a chaplain as you pray before the races.
- 1:03:17You are master of ceremonies. There are there's a lot of
- 1:03:21things with announcers, your social media too.
- 1:03:24You know, you're the you're the face and the voice of the track.
- 1:03:28So keep in mind, and I'm going to say this for anybody out
- 1:03:31there, keep in mind who your audience is and who's watching
- 1:03:34and who's listening as you never know, never pulse anything
- 1:03:39political, anything like that. I've seen it, I've seen it
- 1:03:43happen where people lose their jobs over it.
- 1:03:45It's not worth it. Just watch them afar, sit in the
- 1:03:48stands and watch them the fence as to what's going on.
- 1:03:51But at the same time, if you don't like something, defend it
- 1:03:54respectfully, not disrespectfully.
- 1:03:58Watch your tone. Watch your.
- 1:03:59Language. Goes a long way.
- 1:04:03What do you think the? Biggest challenge is as an
- 1:04:05announcer. You covered a lot of them there.
- 1:04:07What's the biggest one? Well, the biggest the.
- 1:04:10Biggest one I would have to say is disqualification of a driver.
- 1:04:19Yeah, the. Friends and family are all
- 1:04:22around you. And then you get, you have the
- 1:04:24headset on, you have the radio, or you get to tap on the
- 1:04:27shoulder from the race director and say that's not our winner,
- 1:04:29and here's why that's not our winner.
- 1:04:30And you have to tell the crowd what happened.
- 1:04:33Yeah, that's the hardest. Because everybody's.
- 1:04:36All excited and emotions are high.
- 1:04:38Everybody's like, yeah, we won. No, you didn't, and here's why.
- 1:04:42Because you did that. Yeah, we.
- 1:04:45We had one of those, didn't we, Louis?
- 1:04:46Yeah. And then we.
- 1:04:48Got yelled at for it. Not by not by the track.
- 1:04:51But Lewis got in trouble. Yeah, not.
- 1:04:54By, not from. People at the.
- 1:04:55Track. But as you're describing them
- 1:04:56like Boosie did this his second time out, the second or third
- 1:05:01time out. That was a rough.
- 1:05:02One the race. Sean, the race director turned
- 1:05:05me and goes, well, we're going to have to DQ him outside.
- 1:05:07Like what do I do right? Let's talk when that happens.
- 1:05:12That's. Interrupt, but I'm.
- 1:05:13Like Boosie already did that. He could check mark that.
- 1:05:15So see, Boosie, you did the hardest thing.
- 1:05:18Yeah. There you go, Buju.
- 1:05:19All right. Get that out of the way down
- 1:05:21there. That's right, RIP the Band-Aid
- 1:05:22off. And then last one before I throw
- 1:05:25it back to Lewis as a passionate race fan.
- 1:05:27From a fellow from a passionate race fan to a fellow passionate
- 1:05:29race fan. First race track memory.
- 1:05:37Man, that is a tough one. Oh boy.
- 1:05:40What was your first track? Man, that's what's that Corrigan
- 1:05:44was your first. Track I assume.
- 1:05:47No, no. Springport.
- 1:05:51Springport was Michigan cop first ever.
- 1:05:55I was there in a snowsuit in a car seat.
- 1:05:58My godfather Thompson was driving a modified.
- 1:06:00He was one of the first cars on track out there when the track
- 1:06:03was brand new in 1989. So I guess I'd say that's my
- 1:06:07first memory. Don't really remember it, but
- 1:06:09you know, like I said out there in a car seat in a snowsuit
- 1:06:12watching Michigan Cup, that's a good and that's good enough.
- 1:06:16And I'm, I'm excited for Michigan Cup weekend coming up
- 1:06:20get to announce there and I got to thank Donnie Ritter and Dave
- 1:06:24Miller for the opportunity and also Chris Foby is also going to
- 1:06:27be joining me in the tower. So Chris and I will be bringing
- 1:06:29the action. Really looking forward to
- 1:06:32Michigan Cup 37 now coming up October 2nd through the force.
- 1:06:37Make sure you are there. Hopefully we'll see all
- 1:06:40trackside at Springport and that's.
- 1:06:44You know, with. Springport.
- 1:06:45Obviously coming back, there's a lot of excitement around that.
- 1:06:48And I noticed in a little ways, I mean, you and Chris have kind
- 1:06:50of followed each other in a way, right where, you know, Chris was
- 1:06:54at Springport. Then he went.
- 1:06:56To Owosso you went back to Springport, then you're at
- 1:06:59Corgan oil. You left court, you know Corgan
- 1:07:01oil. He you know, he went to Corgan
- 1:07:03oil. Like, you know, it's kind of
- 1:07:04been like a you know, follow each other a little bit.
- 1:07:06So now, you know, you get to share the same booth at the same
- 1:07:09well, maybe not same time, like, you know, you guys got to figure
- 1:07:12out what that looks like. But you know, it's one of those
- 1:07:14that again, you know, to you shared the mic, you know, at
- 1:07:18Corgan earlier this year with you obviously doing the Tri
- 1:07:20States and he did the rest of the program.
- 1:07:22So you've been in the same tower same time, and now you both get
- 1:07:26to call to action. And so so that's pretty
- 1:07:29exciting. And I know there's a lot of
- 1:07:30buzz. I mean, even, you know, not only
- 1:07:32does Buju, did you know that Super Shoe is still on?
- 1:07:35Did you know that? OK, yeah, I heard too.
- 1:07:39But Sean, we had to address a rumor at the start of the show,
- 1:07:43you know, because right now there's people messaging going
- 1:07:46why? You know, why Super Shoe cancel?
- 1:07:48I heard Super Shoe cancel, which is so false.
- 1:07:50It's not even not even 1% true. Tina Luce is working butt off,
- 1:07:55but I know Michigan cop likewise Ryan warning is doing a lot of
- 1:07:59the campsites and all that. And from everything Donnie has
- 1:08:01said is that it's that's almost packed to that almost every spot
- 1:08:05or every reserve spot from 2024 is already taken.
- 1:08:10They're already claimed and they're working on stuff.
- 1:08:12So there's a lot of buzz around Michigan Cup right now, you
- 1:08:16know, a lot of buzz about Super Shoe, but I always describe
- 1:08:19Super Shoe as a, a party where there's some racing and then
- 1:08:23Michigan Cop is like a family reunion with racing.
- 1:08:26You know, it's just a 2 totally different vibes.
- 1:08:29And it's just funny because Donnie's over both of them now
- 1:08:32and but it's still two different vibes.
- 1:08:34And so I know we're all excited to get back to Spring Port and
- 1:08:40and see that track back up and running.
- 1:08:42You know, Lucian, I've talked about not a lot of tracks are
- 1:08:44are opening new ones at least. And the and you know, we almost
- 1:08:48saw Springport, but now it's back and you know, it's a
- 1:08:51fantastic track. So, so with that, I know, I know
- 1:08:56John Boy has already, you know, talked about getting a show over
- 1:08:59at Springport. Obviously he wants to get back
- 1:09:01to Corrigan. He even messaged me.
- 1:09:03I don't know if Brian Kusabe was on tonight, but he messaged me
- 1:09:06that Grundy track looked really good.
- 1:09:08How can we get over there? And so, you know, after me going
- 1:09:12and covering Grundy County Speedway and Morris, IL, I've
- 1:09:15had a lot of people message saying, Hey, when's that Bahama
- 1:09:18brackets you talk about? Hey, when and like that was part
- 1:09:20of the goal of me going to Grundy, right, is to put Grundy
- 1:09:24in my ecosystem so that way people can see another awesome
- 1:09:27track and it's the only asphalt track in Illinois.
- 1:09:30So you could literally say the most competitive asphalt track
- 1:09:33racing in Illinois and you would be right because it's the only
- 1:09:36asphalt track in Illinois. So no one can prove you wrong.
- 1:09:38There's you know, I mean, you're not going to race at Chicago
- 1:09:41Lane. Let's just be real and and it'll
- 1:09:43be cool. But yeah, yeah, probably not
- 1:09:45going. To happen.
- 1:09:46And you know, but other than that, that's where I appreciate
- 1:09:50you coming on tonight too, Sean and talking all about not only
- 1:09:53your career, but you know, Tri states, because I know you've
- 1:09:56been obviously working at Michigan State University.
- 1:09:58You've already had a long day and doing all that at MSU.
- 1:10:02Do they put extra seconds on the clock at all anywhere Not to my.
- 1:10:08Knowledge, no. So they they follow the.
- 1:10:10Rule of Time, Yeah, as far as I know, yes.
- 1:10:13Yeah. They don't in Ann Arbor.
- 1:10:15But but anyways, yeah, obviously, you know, I'm not a
- 1:10:20Sparty fan because Notre Dame I think plays MSU this year, if I
- 1:10:24remember right. But or, or is it next year?
- 1:10:27It's they're coming up. But but other than that, right,
- 1:10:31I anytime, you know, Sparty and the Wolverines are on the field,
- 1:10:35I will always side with Sparty. So go green.
- 1:10:39So go green, go white, right? But other than that, again,
- 1:10:42thank you for, you know, coming on tonight and and talking, you
- 1:10:46know, your like I said, your career.
- 1:10:50How's that cream puff and D schedule?
- 1:10:52I mean, we'll take what we can get, but you know, Notre Dame.
- 1:10:59As long as they're. In the College Football Playoff
- 1:11:00and finish in the top 12. It doesn't matter Wolverine or
- 1:11:04Michigan still almost lost to a Mac school.
- 1:11:06So I was hoping for it though, because I how often do we hear
- 1:11:10about Northern Illinois? And it's like, OK, if if
- 1:11:13Michigan, I mean, we didn't lose to App State.
- 1:11:15Let's remember that, which was like an FCS school at the time.
- 1:11:17So, you know, just remember, we might have lost to Northern
- 1:11:21Illinois, but we didn't lose Appalachian State.
- 1:11:24So Michigan fans really don't have much to stand on other than
- 1:11:28when they're stolen championships from a few years
- 1:11:31ago when they had to seal everyone's signs, you know, to
- 1:11:34do that. But it's funny how they all went
- 1:11:36off to the NFL or got fired. So anyways, again, thank you for
- 1:11:42coming on tonight. And I know we will see you at
- 1:11:45Michigan Cup here in a few weeks.
- 1:11:48Yeah, no, I definitely have one more person to think that's.
- 1:11:50My wife. Oh yeah.
- 1:11:51Oh yeah, She she. Lets me do this.
- 1:11:55You know, I was, I was in racing, she was never in racing.
- 1:11:59You know, I brought her into this crazy world.
- 1:12:02So so I got to thank her. She lets me do all this, lets me
- 1:12:05go away on the weekends. I'm not away as often as I used
- 1:12:09to be, but I definitely got to thank her.
- 1:12:12Without her, I you know, I don't know where I'd be honestly.
- 1:12:16So without her support, it's it means a lot so well, and that's,
- 1:12:21I mean, you're busy. You guys are always.
- 1:12:22Doing something somewhere, right?
- 1:12:23I mean, you don't live a slow life.
- 1:12:25I know you've had a lot of exchange students, you know, be
- 1:12:27a part of your family. And we have you, and we have one
- 1:12:30now. So, you know, Yeah.
- 1:12:33And you get to introduce. Them not only to racing, but I
- 1:12:35know you go to sports games, you keep them very involved.
- 1:12:37So and it takes special people to have like exchange students
- 1:12:41and you know, or go through adoption to do different things.
- 1:12:44I mean, that's just not that's not easy for anyone.
- 1:12:46So, so again, you know, just keep being you and doing that.
- 1:12:49And I know as an announcer, I always, I always cite you when
- 1:12:54I'm talking with announcers like, well, Sean has a really
- 1:12:56cool system or Sean has a really awesome system.
- 1:12:59And I know like when you're talking with Buju in his notes,
- 1:13:01if you saw all of his postcards and note cards and all the
- 1:13:04things that he has, I really wanted to mess him up the one
- 1:13:07day. And I'm like, no, I won't do
- 1:13:09that to him. And it's so tempting as they're
- 1:13:12laid out, though, I just, but I didn't, I was kind.
- 1:13:15I walked away. There you go.
- 1:13:17Yeah, don't chose. I get an altar.
- 1:13:19System, I mean if you do that. We get lost.
- 1:13:22Yeah, they they were. It was too nice.
- 1:13:26I'm like, it needs to be crooked a little bit, but I'm like, if
- 1:13:28anyone else did it, it wasn't. It definitely wasn't me.
- 1:13:30I had the temptation and then I'm like, I'm an adult, not do
- 1:13:35that. But but for anyone watching,
- 1:13:38because we did miss the top of the hour reminder, you know,
- 1:13:42we've not only we've been on with Bree Brady, who you can
- 1:13:44listen to earlier in our show. Once we're done live, you can
- 1:13:47always go back and listen on Facebook for free.
- 1:13:49You can also listen on YouTube for free.
- 1:13:51And if you want to listen in the car on your way somewhere or at
- 1:13:54work, you can download it on Spotify.
- 1:13:57Or if you don't have Spotify, which is also free to get and
- 1:13:59you you can go to iHeartRadio. We have a we're getting a quite
- 1:14:03a following on Spotify, but we also have some who listen to
- 1:14:07Amazon Music, Apple podcast and iHeartRadio.
- 1:14:09So wherever you listen to podcast, you can find us there.
- 1:14:13So Brie Brady started about 10 minutes into our show.
- 1:14:15We were 5 minutes late with her and she went about 45 minutes
- 1:14:19into the show. And then we brought on Sean
- 1:14:21Sprague, who's been about the last 30 minutes of the show.
- 1:14:24We got him on about 8:45 or 7:45 and it's not 815.
- 1:14:28So we've had him in that time frame.
- 1:14:30So if you miss any part of the interview with Sean, talk about
- 1:14:33tri-state experiences, announcing again, once we're
- 1:14:35done being live, you can always go back and watch specific
- 1:14:38parts. And that would be the time stamp
- 1:14:40area to look for at the start of the interviews.
- 1:14:43But other than that, again, Sean, thank you so much for
- 1:14:45joining us tonight. And now we get to make Buju
- 1:14:47sweat a little bit. So well, Buju, I look forward to
- 1:14:51seeing you hopefully at Springport so we can meet in
- 1:14:53person. Yeah, I'm trying to make it.
- 1:14:55That's the. That's the.
- 1:14:56Goal is to get up there. I've never been to Springport,
- 1:14:58never been to Mission Cup, obviously, so that, that is
- 1:15:00awesome. Yeah, we we'd love to have you.
- 1:15:02So come on out, man. Yeah, sounds like a plan.
- 1:15:04All right, well, again. Thank you much, Sean for
- 1:15:06joining. Us and now like I said, we get
- 1:15:09to make make boozoo sweat a little bit because it's our
- 1:15:11debut of the rewind roulette where the wheel decides what we
- 1:15:17get to talk about. And so let me go ahead and click
- 1:15:20share screen. In fact, let me go let me get
- 1:15:25full screen here. Oh, hold on, let me do it this
- 1:15:29way. It's better to do it this way.
- 1:15:31So we're going to share, screen share.
- 1:15:36There's like 4. Buttons to click here.
- 1:15:38All. Right.
- 1:15:39Can you see it? Nope, not yet.
- 1:15:43Oh, is it not sharing? Oh.
- 1:15:45Hold on. There we go.
- 1:15:48Is it sharing? There we go, man.
- 1:15:50I am. I'm.
- 1:15:50Not doing really well. Tonight with all the buttons,
- 1:15:52but obviously I'm not also thinking super clearly either.
- 1:15:55But but let's go ahead. And it even has music.
- 1:16:02It's spinning and seeing. The one you didn't want.
- 1:16:07All right, boy. Oh.
- 1:16:08Mount Rushmore 2 point. O who are your?
- 1:16:11Top 4 drivers from 2026. So I know you had that was the
- 1:16:16one that you're hoping to not get.
- 1:16:18That's the problem. You said it out loud.
- 1:16:19It's like when when someone says this field goal kicker hasn't
- 1:16:22missed a field goal and 900 tries and all of a sudden the
- 1:16:26900 first try wide left game lost.
- 1:16:31Wow. So your top four and it.
- 1:16:34Can be any track, any series. It doesn't have to be one class.
- 1:16:38We will have class specifics in the future, so this one will be
- 1:16:42eliminated, but there will be another Mount Rushmore topic for
- 1:16:46the next time. So, so wow, talk about on the
- 1:16:50spot. All right.
- 1:16:51Here we go. Doesn't have to.
- 1:16:54Be in any order either, so the first name doesn't have to mean
- 1:16:57that they're #1 nobody knows who's the number one president
- 1:17:00is on Mount Rushmore. We just know there's four faces
- 1:17:03who all had, you know, obviously important things in American
- 1:17:06history. And you know, so for you it's
- 1:17:09who stands out in 2026 and in short, track racing in general.
- 1:17:16So obviously within my window this is going.
- 1:17:18To have to be for what I'm informed on.
- 1:17:20And it would be hard not to put Tyler Rorg on there in any year,
- 1:17:23but just as successful in this one as he has been for the last
- 1:17:28quite a few. So hard not to put Tyler Rorg on
- 1:17:31there. And then it gets harder, man.
- 1:17:35Let me think. I would have to put.
- 1:17:41Seneca on. There for coming back.
- 1:17:44And getting a big win at the Clash, I think that was pretty
- 1:17:48monumental. And the the Mount Rushmore is a
- 1:17:51monument. So it is.
- 1:17:54Yeah, we're. Going to put them on there.
- 1:17:55So that gives me. Two, we're halfway there.
- 1:17:58Cross flags, man. All right, so let me start
- 1:18:02thinking about the Street stocks.
- 1:18:04We talk about how competitive St. stocks are all the time.
- 1:18:06I started thinking about the big St.
- 1:18:08Stock races this year. Honestly, I'm going to put
- 1:18:13Andrew Devries on the. Mount Rushmore this year he has
- 1:18:16been bad fast everywhere he's gone.
- 1:18:17He won the V8 Open feature at South End this weekend, so
- 1:18:21another notch in his belt on the year and just bad fast
- 1:18:25everywhere he's gone. So give me Andrew Devries on my
- 1:18:27Mount Rushmore for the year and #4 last but not least, and tough
- 1:18:37Lewis, tough now I'm not. Now everybody's coming to mind.
- 1:18:41I got to just. Pick one of them.
- 1:18:43Yeah, you only get 4. They have not they've.
- 1:18:45Not added a president yet to the Rushmore.
- 1:18:49They've talked about many different options, but it's
- 1:18:51still only four. Tough.
- 1:18:57Well, if you want I can give a few names.
- 1:18:59And then you go forward a thing. Give me a second.
- 1:19:00Let me narrow it down here. Yeah, so.
- 1:19:04And again, anybody in the comments section, you're welcome
- 1:19:07to add your own names. You can get 4321, you know,
- 1:19:10whatever you want to give. I see David Howe is adding
- 1:19:14Quinton say same in from you know, he's a tri-state Sprint
- 1:19:18champion, their inaugural champion this year.
- 1:19:22So when I was thinking about my list and and how I would do my
- 1:19:26Mount Rushmore because it's however you define it too,
- 1:19:28right? It's however you want to
- 1:19:29recognize people. And so one name that definitely
- 1:19:32stood out to me is Colin Bozell because of his strong run that
- 1:19:37he had at Kalamazoo and at Galesburg this year where
- 1:19:42obviously, you know, he was winning a lot of features of
- 1:19:44doing that. But I also think too, it comes
- 1:19:46down to how he races. And he's usually not going to
- 1:19:50put someone in the wall. He's usually not going to go out
- 1:19:54and, you know, bump people around and do that kind of deal.
- 1:19:56So that's why I would put Colin. It's not just accolades but also
- 1:20:01how he is on the track as a driver, where in most cases he's
- 1:20:06very respectful and he's usually not going to do something dumb
- 1:20:10while he's on the track. So then after that, right, It it
- 1:20:14did become a little tougher. But then my second pick is
- 1:20:17Ronnie Maynard Junior. Yeah, so.
- 1:20:21With Ronnie Maynard. Junior, the reason I picked
- 1:20:24Ronnie again, you know, he hasn't been like dominant this
- 1:20:28year, right? Last year he was pretty dominant
- 1:20:30in the modified. He pretty much swept New Paris
- 1:20:32and all that. But again, I think it's how he
- 1:20:35carries himself in the pit area where he's at the track all the
- 1:20:38time. He's helping the boys, he's
- 1:20:40doing all of that. Obviously, he's a big mentor.
- 1:20:43He's had success on the grand stage of them all, anywhere that
- 1:20:47stage is located. And obviously he got a Sizzler
- 1:20:51win in a stacked field of modifieds.
- 1:20:54And he would be a front runner this Saturday at New Paris's
- 1:20:58championship night for the Trifecta Series, where somebody,
- 1:21:02three people get $5000 each at the end of the night for being
- 1:21:06the Trifecta champion. So Ronnie Maynard Junior was my
- 1:21:09second pick and then from there and.
- 1:21:13I obviously I. Cheated a little bit because I
- 1:21:14made the question, right. So, but it was still tough,
- 1:21:17right? Because I also, when I think
- 1:21:19about it today, obviously I was in a very different emotional
- 1:21:22state from when I came up with the idea yesterday driving home
- 1:21:25where then I thought, OK, you know, who really stands out to
- 1:21:30me that I feel like deserves that moment, right?
- 1:21:38There's that moment for this year, for what they did, what
- 1:21:41they overcame. And so this one may be a little
- 1:21:44surprising, but I've also thought about Hayley Bowl being
- 1:21:48on my Mount Rushmore, obviously rookie of the year at new Paris,
- 1:21:52champion at new Paris. But it was almost her journey as
- 1:21:56what stood out to me because again, with Art Mount Rushmore,
- 1:21:59right, obviously the the faces on there, they have accolades,
- 1:22:02they have reasons, but it's also what do they mean to American
- 1:22:06history and why we're honoring them and they're on there.
- 1:22:09And so with Haley Bull, I felt like the high and low of the
- 1:22:12season, not only with her dad having heart issues and other
- 1:22:17health issues going on, being in the hospital, but also staying
- 1:22:19grounded at the track, pushing through each time championship
- 1:22:23night, not going as planned, you know, blowing radiator, having
- 1:22:27different things still coming out, still finishing the race,
- 1:22:30coming in, you know, being nervous throughout the year, not
- 1:22:34really feeling the swag, right? But, you know, came on.
- 1:22:38And so I thought like, OK, if I had, you know, someone who I'd
- 1:22:41put on there who's not maybe a sexy name that people would
- 1:22:44pick, right? It's not the Tyler Rohrig's,
- 1:22:46it's not the Steve Needles, it's not the Phil Bozell's, it's not
- 1:22:50the right. It's not those names that always
- 1:22:54get picked because they're easy to pick, right?
- 1:22:56It's the names who you really have to think about because
- 1:22:58Colin Bozell was an easy pick, right?
- 1:23:00So it's like you got a challenge, right?
- 1:23:02You got to go beyond like, you know, if I were to define the
- 1:23:05season and I define grit, you win a championship, there's
- 1:23:08grit. Haley Bull has that grit, right,
- 1:23:12with her and getting that opportunity.
- 1:23:15And then and then I got to #4 and then I'm thinking, well,
- 1:23:20shitake mushrooms now, right? Because right, the people we're
- 1:23:25picking doesn't mean we think they're better than anyone.
- 1:23:28And it's like if I had to define this season.
- 1:23:32And so, you know, when I think about that and when I think
- 1:23:35about who stands out and how they stand out, I'm like, OK,
- 1:23:39who can? Be my 4th person.
- 1:23:41Who's kind of like that driver that I just see every week
- 1:23:45pushing through, doing their damnedest to go out there, do as
- 1:23:50best as they can with the equipment they have, trying and
- 1:23:54going. Doesn't go to social media and
- 1:23:58moans, complaints and groans and all the things.
- 1:24:01They just go to the track and they do what they got to do.
- 1:24:05And that's Kyle Klein again. He has.
- 1:24:09He's a. Champion.
- 1:24:10But if you were to put all the limited lay models on one track
- 1:24:14at one time, that is in the Michigan area, whether that's at
- 1:24:18M40 or at Kalamazoo or at Galesburg or at New Paris, and
- 1:24:23you pick names, you got the Ganassist staring them down.
- 1:24:26You got the Bozell staring them down, right?
- 1:24:27You got all these names. It's like who?
- 1:24:31Who just goes and does their thing?
- 1:24:33They don't get in all the drama, they don't get in all the
- 1:24:36things. They just go.
- 1:24:38And that's where I thought 2 to define my 20/20/24 season is
- 1:24:42Kyle Klein. And that's how I did my Mount
- 1:24:45Rushmore. It wasn't always necessary
- 1:24:47accolades, excuse me, but it was also like who do I feel deserves
- 1:24:54that honor of hey, I see what you're doing.
- 1:24:59And so those are why I picked my 4 names.
- 1:25:03Well, since you cheated and had more.
- 1:25:04Time to. Think about you.
- 1:25:07I'm gonna go with. Another I guess.
- 1:25:09Easier pick and more obvious pick for my 4th, but I think I'm
- 1:25:11gonna pick Brock Gannis as much as Tyler has been, I think the
- 1:25:17superstar of our area for the last however long I think, and
- 1:25:22Tyler still very much is. But I think Brock is next man up
- 1:25:26in that discussion. Yeah, for the guy of the area.
- 1:25:29So I'm gonna put Brock on mine. Well, because when you get past
- 1:25:33those names. Right, you can throw a Jeffrey
- 1:25:35town in there. You can start throwing a Ricky
- 1:25:36Lucic in there, right? You can.
- 1:25:38So it's like, but who who defines that season?
- 1:25:41Because Mount Rushmore helps define part of our history,
- 1:25:44right. And so so that's why I felt, you
- 1:25:47know, those names stuck stood and I definitely wasn't going
- 1:25:50after you and your name, you know, but it's, you know,
- 1:25:53because you're always going to get someone who's going to say
- 1:25:55Bryce Bozell. Yeah, he the kids, incredibly
- 1:25:58talented Mason, you know, showed what he could do this year,
- 1:26:01right. Like, I would not disagree with
- 1:26:02you. It would be.
- 1:26:03There's so much evidence to support that.
- 1:26:05But it's like sometimes, you know, when I see, you know, end
- 1:26:09of year awards and I see different things, it's like we
- 1:26:12don't go beyond the sexy names, right?
- 1:26:15The names that get mentioned all the time anyways, right?
- 1:26:18And so obviously, Tyler Lorie, hard to debate that.
- 1:26:21You know, he certainly would be on a lot of people's Mount
- 1:26:23Rushmore. I mean, he literally just
- 1:26:25crushed a track record at Berlin as if it were eating like fast,
- 1:26:29you know, like a buffet in 10 seconds, right?
- 1:26:31I mean, he just annihilated that and you know, and had that
- 1:26:35opportunity, right. And so then it's like, obviously
- 1:26:39that's a big accolade and he's and he's won in multiple series
- 1:26:43this year and all that. So you know, for a lot of people
- 1:26:45he is that Mount Rushmore. But it's also like, but he's a
- 1:26:49sexy name. He's a name that gets all the
- 1:26:52accolades already. He's a name that gets publicized
- 1:26:54all the time anyways, where you don't you don't think me putting
- 1:26:58on his Mount Rushmore is? Me putting him on my Mount
- 1:27:00Rushmore is gonna make to the shop wall, no?
- 1:27:04Probably not. I mean.
- 1:27:05I don't think any of our Mount Rushmore's are making anyone
- 1:27:07shop wall. But you know, I was thinking,
- 1:27:10you know what chew with the Mount Rushmore it's like and why
- 1:27:13I went this a couple times, right, is what's the Monday
- 1:27:16night rewind been all about? The rewind has been about, you
- 1:27:19know, we've obviously had sexy names on here.
- 1:27:22You know, you got Kenny Wallace, you got all, you know, all those
- 1:27:24names. But then we've also had like a
- 1:27:26Bree Brady on here who is in AC feature.
- 1:27:29A lot of people leave after the A feature, so they might not see
- 1:27:32AB or C feature, right. I see the stadium at Kalamazoo,
- 1:27:36the turn 2 clears out as soon as ABC feature comes on after A's.
- 1:27:40Like it's so disappointing sometimes that like, hey, these
- 1:27:43are good racers too and they all pay the same damn pit pass as
- 1:27:45everybody else. And you know, they and they have
- 1:27:49the same tire cost and same fuel cost, the same all the other
- 1:27:51things as the a feature guys, they're just not going to make
- 1:27:53as much money or earn as much to cut their, you know, to trim
- 1:27:57their losses. Hornet race was arguably the
- 1:27:59best race of the night at South. Bend Saturday, Yeah, and while
- 1:28:02that's not surprising. For South Bend, though, I mean,
- 1:28:04they, what am I saying? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:06And so I feel like we'll do a fair here since I'm going to
- 1:28:12share the screen again, since we, you know, we got the hardest
- 1:28:16one, I'm going to eliminate it and we'll do one more just to be
- 1:28:23fair because. That was the tough.
- 1:28:24One right that was the brain thinker and but I think you know
- 1:28:29both both of our versions were, you know, pretty good for Ronnie
- 1:28:36manner was a really good answer you.
- 1:28:37Know for what we're oh, sorry there.
- 1:28:39Was a chipmunk coming up. I just saw that light the the
- 1:28:43eye flash and then he ran away. So I'm like yeah buddy, I'm
- 1:28:46still up here. I'm sorry.
- 1:28:49All right, so let's spin it. What one are you hoping for next
- 1:28:52'cause you already said what 1 you didn't want and that's when
- 1:28:54it landed on. So out of the ones that are left
- 1:28:56segment racing this that front wheel drive discussion, which
- 1:29:00earlier I think you said front or someone said front wheel
- 1:29:02drives, April said front wheel drives social media or true or
- 1:29:07false. Which one are you hoping for?
- 1:29:09I think this or that. And true or false I think are
- 1:29:12easy answers, so I'm hoping for those now.
- 1:29:15OK, so let's see. There you go, do this or that.
- 1:29:21Give me a 50 lap St. Stock race and then cut another
- 1:29:2410. Laps.
- 1:29:27So so so This is why. I picked this.
- 1:29:31I'll that's too easy, but so we'll do one more.
- 1:29:35We'll do three most things. We'll probably just do one, but
- 1:29:38I felt like since that's pretty easy, give me the Street stocks.
- 1:29:43Yeah, I I for one, Yeah, I just prefer St.
- 1:29:45Stocks anyway, and I've talked about on my show, I think once
- 1:29:47you hit over in a late model race, once you hit over 75 left,
- 1:29:51it's all a point, a diminishing return.
- 1:29:53At some point you're giving too much time for the fast guys to
- 1:29:55get to the front. And we're going to say that a
- 1:29:58guy on my Mount Rushmore sent me a message and agreed with my
- 1:30:00point. So yeah, that's why you picked
- 1:30:04him. Now we know why he's.
- 1:30:05Clipped you a 20 under the table.
- 1:30:06No, I'm kidding, but that's how you got your Hornet out to the
- 1:30:10track. You got some more money, but no,
- 1:30:13I got some rocket shocks on the Saturn.
- 1:30:14Well. There you.
- 1:30:17Go. But what I think is right, you
- 1:30:19know I and you've heard me say this before and it's nothing.
- 1:30:23The light just turned off again. It's nothing against the outlaw
- 1:30:26guys, right? But I've always said.
- 1:30:30Even to outlaw. Guys, the races are one way or
- 1:30:33another, they're either really solid, few cautions here you go
- 1:30:37or they're marathons and they go forever.
- 1:30:42I mean, you know, the calendars who clashed a couple for the
- 1:30:45last couple years has been bumpy.
- 1:30:47You know, a few years ago, not so much, but we've had a fuel
- 1:30:50stop. We had to throw a red flag
- 1:30:51because people are running out of fuel because the number of
- 1:30:54caution laps and and that changes the race and it does.
- 1:30:57Change the race? Yep.
- 1:30:59And you have all these different things and it's like, it could
- 1:31:01be exciting, but you know, it gets to be single file at times.
- 1:31:06It gets to be different things. And and even watching that
- 1:31:09Grundy, right? And it's nothing against Grundy,
- 1:31:11but their late model race, you know, was pretty exciting until
- 1:31:15the two crashed and then it was not not exciting.
- 1:31:18It was still exciting. But a single file a lot, right?
- 1:31:21Super late model racing just kind of goes that way anywhere.
- 1:31:24And dirt or asphalt, right? Not maybe, maybe not so much
- 1:31:27dirt, but 'cause you can slide and get away with a few more
- 1:31:30things. But how many times have we seen
- 1:31:32on Facebook people go, oh, super Late Models forgot whether
- 1:31:35they're outlaw or NASCAR style, right?
- 1:31:38Oh, Super Late Models forgot how to drive today again 'cause they
- 1:31:40crashed on lap one, right? And so, you know, pile up in
- 1:31:44turn 1 lap one, right? So again, it's nothing against
- 1:31:48them, right? But I would rather get to a
- 1:31:50point where we start seeing 7575 lap races, maybe 80 lap races.
- 1:31:55And and you know, I don't want to take away from the the
- 1:31:58nostalgia of 125 lap Kalamazoo clash, but let's remember it
- 1:32:02used to be 200. So it's not been like 125
- 1:32:05forever. It used to be longer.
- 1:32:07And I also acknowledge the point that more lap.
- 1:32:09Sell tickets to the casual yeah side of things when but I mean,
- 1:32:14that's I feel like that's on us as a sport for not promoting our
- 1:32:19product properly. So the fact that we're using
- 1:32:21cheap things like the lap count to sell tick well and then think
- 1:32:25about that. Yeah, you got him in on the lap
- 1:32:27count, but how many people are going to go to social media?
- 1:32:30If you start with look at M40M40 got not it's no fault to their
- 1:32:34own, but what was the talk out of M 40s reveal?
- 1:32:37Race 03 finished and one was on like the lap, the lead lap or
- 1:32:41five or seven, whatever it was. But this many started and we got
- 1:32:44down to this much over time and only one guy was like on the
- 1:32:47lead lap, right? Like it just, it happens
- 1:32:50everywhere. It's not immune to one track or
- 1:32:53another. But it's like when you average,
- 1:32:55you know, yeah, you could say 100, 25 laps.
- 1:32:57But then when are they going to go to social media?
- 1:32:59They're not going to remember 125 laps.
- 1:33:01They're going to say you have 4 cars finish on the lead lap, you
- 1:33:03know, or you get the guys who remember, you know, Richard
- 1:33:08Nixon as president and go, I remember when there were 90 late
- 1:33:12models here and you had AF feature consolation back then or
- 1:33:17whatever. OK, It's not happening anymore.
- 1:33:20You know, it's just not. Yeah.
- 1:33:22And to those to those people that make that point.
- 1:33:24All the time South Bend. We had 123 cars on Saturday we
- 1:33:28finished up just before 2:00 in the morning and you know what
- 1:33:30the stands look like at 2:00 in the morning, Lewis?
- 1:33:32They're. They were empty.
- 1:33:34Yeah. Everybody.
- 1:33:34Everybody acts like they want to be there all night, but they
- 1:33:36don't. They leave when the stuff gets
- 1:33:38strung out and that's the racers are OK being not all.
- 1:33:41Racers. But you know your die hards,
- 1:33:44your die hards don't care if they go to IHOP an hour after
- 1:33:47the race is finished, right? But most people in today's
- 1:33:50world, you know, I talk to families a lot.
- 1:33:53You know, I used to talk to families all the time because of
- 1:33:56my previous job, right? And you know, I would talk
- 1:34:00because they knew I was in the racing and I would talk with
- 1:34:01them about racing. They're like it on Fridays.
- 1:34:03It's tough because you're like, well, we got soccer in the
- 1:34:06morning. We just can't be out late.
- 1:34:07And you know, for us down in Bering County, our closest track
- 1:34:11is Hartford. South Bend, if you go to
- 1:34:13Indiana, would be the closest track.
- 1:34:15If you're if you stay just in Michigan, it's Hartford, the
- 1:34:19next closest in the Barren County would be M40 and then you
- 1:34:22get to there you go Kalamazoo, Plymouth, Galesburg, in that
- 1:34:27order from this part of Barren County.
- 1:34:30New Buffalo would be a little different.
- 1:34:32It would the order would change slightly, but still those are
- 1:34:34the closest tracks. And so when you think about
- 1:34:36that, if I. You know if I have.
- 1:34:40Kids and they were just at school all day.
- 1:34:42We've been up since, you know, 6:00 in the morning.
- 1:34:44And now I want to go to a track. I don't want to be there past
- 1:34:4711. And I know that's hard for
- 1:34:50people to understand and it's hard for people.
- 1:34:52But look at MLB baseball, look at the college football game.
- 1:34:56Look at the NFL. They're always talking about in
- 1:34:58the news. How can we shorten the game
- 1:34:59because people don't want to be at it forever.
- 1:35:01It's not the 1990 NFL anymore. The fans aren't that way.
- 1:35:08Fans are shrinking. Like, that's right?
- 1:35:10That's just how it is. And because.
- 1:35:12We have to die. Yeah.
- 1:35:14And so I look at the Savannah Banana.
- 1:35:16I look at, you know, when we went to the Chili Peppers
- 1:35:20baseball game at Grand Rapids a few weeks ago.
- 1:35:22Like, my mom does not sit and watch sports or anything on TV,
- 1:35:27but she'll watch the Savannah Bananas.
- 1:35:29And we went and watched the Chili Peppers game.
- 1:35:31That the whole game non-stop, something's going on all the
- 1:35:35time. I'm like, I afterwards I said,
- 1:35:37man, if people, if they get over stimulated quick, that game may,
- 1:35:41that kind of game may not be for them.
- 1:35:42They may need the Super slow game because I, I was
- 1:35:46overwhelmed at times just with mental and visual imagery where
- 1:35:50I'm like, there's just like no stop, you know, like if you went
- 1:35:54to the bathroom break, you missed something, right?
- 1:35:56And so I mean the game, like all of it is just fast, right?
- 1:36:00So that's what, you know, we're in that world now.
- 1:36:04So I think that's something that we need to remember.
- 1:36:06And like last night at Corrigan oil, like people, there are a
- 1:36:09lot of people who stay, but it was an unusually late night for
- 1:36:11Corrigan lot going on. They had champions crown and all
- 1:36:14that, but like they had Matthew LC junior hit water barrels,
- 1:36:18they had a Pierce stock hit the water barrels they had.
- 1:36:23They just had weird things that they haven't had at any other.
- 1:36:26It was a slugfest last night. They hadn't had that all year.
- 1:36:30And it's like, man, it was seven O 1 and we were still in
- 1:36:33intermission usually by 7 O1. We were finishing the last
- 1:36:36feature. And so with twins and so it's
- 1:36:39just an unusual night and they started on time.
- 1:36:41It's not like they even started like Corgan, like Callum was
- 1:36:44just really good. Five O clocks, 5 O clock, 7 O
- 1:36:46clock, 7 O clock 73730. Like those tracks are really
- 1:36:50good. About 5:00 is 5:00 or whatever.
- 1:36:53Like we're not going to say that we're going to start at 4:00 and
- 1:36:55we actually don't start till 6:00.
- 1:36:57Like they're realistic about their time and they stay on
- 1:37:00time. They don't waste it.
- 1:37:02And so I'm like, oh, if I had worked the next.
- 1:37:06Day like today. Man, I probably would have been
- 1:37:09slow walking or Grundy. I would have never been able to
- 1:37:11go to Grundy on. Well, that would have been Labor
- 1:37:14Day week. And I could have, but, but if it
- 1:37:16were normal Monday, I wouldn't be able to go to Grundy and I
- 1:37:19definitely wouldn't have been able to hang out with Brian
- 1:37:21Kasaba for a while afterwards, get home at 5:00 in the morning.
- 1:37:24Like it just wouldn't have happened.
- 1:37:26But why don't I eliminate that? And to close our show, we'll do
- 1:37:30one more. Maybe it'll be a quick one, and
- 1:37:32then we'll get off because I love the wheel music.
- 1:37:36Yeah, I didn't. It's an easy one.
- 1:37:43Oh, it's kind of so front wheel drive racers often note that
- 1:37:48they do not have big shows and comment how they bring more
- 1:37:50people to front wheel drive shows, bring more people than V8
- 1:37:54class shows. So let me go ahead and stop
- 1:37:57sharing the screen and I'm kind of in the dark again.
- 1:38:01But it's fine, I'm OK. I don't mind the darkness right
- 1:38:05now. But what do you think, you know,
- 1:38:08'cause you, you know, as a front wheel drive racer and I've had
- 1:38:11these conversations with front wheel drive racers, right?
- 1:38:14But I've seen shows at like the small car nationals at Slinger.
- 1:38:18It was a, a front wheel drive small car national only show.
- 1:38:22It definitely didn't have the same amount of fans as slingers,
- 1:38:25you know, nationals with cars, right?
- 1:38:28So you as a front wheel drive racer, you know, what do you,
- 1:38:31what do you think? How do you feel like, you know,
- 1:38:34do you think that that argument 'cause you see it all the time,
- 1:38:38you know, do you think that argument kind of needs to lay to
- 1:38:40rest? Do you think, you know, you keep
- 1:38:42the drum beaten? Like what do you think?
- 1:38:45Maybe you more specifically as a front wheel drive racer I think.
- 1:38:51I no, I don't, I don't think 4 cylinders in general are a main
- 1:38:56event class. Most of the time.
- 1:38:58I think there are like I think of the Freedom Factory shows
- 1:39:01that rejected with the national Compact touring series and
- 1:39:04Carolina Mini Stocks and all the the other all the 4 cylinder
- 1:39:07groups that came together and they ran that big race down at
- 1:39:09Freedom Factory. Yeah, I believe they had a DE
- 1:39:11feature that first. Year so.
- 1:39:12That's a that's a big show. And, and honestly, I don't, I
- 1:39:17don't remember what the crowd looked like that night, but I
- 1:39:19don't think it was packed or anything.
- 1:39:20It's a tough sell. People are people want to see
- 1:39:24St. stocks, people want to see late models.
- 1:39:26And maybe that goes back to like I said with the lap thing, maybe
- 1:39:28it's a bit of a marketing issue because I think me and you agree
- 1:39:31the front wheel drive racing is pretty exciting at its best.
- 1:39:34Yeah, just like anything else. Yeah.
- 1:39:36So I think people sometimes get hung up on the speed thing that
- 1:39:42and a lot and a lot of these tracks.
- 1:39:44Now the Outlaw front wheel drives or whatever you call the
- 1:39:46class, wherever it may be, are going faster than some of the
- 1:39:48street stocks, right? Absolutely.
- 1:39:50Yeah. But.
- 1:39:52I just a lot of people. Get caught up on the speeds and
- 1:39:55how many cylinders the car has. But to me, good racing is good
- 1:39:58racing. I don't care if they're going,
- 1:40:02you know, 40 miles an hour. If they're beating and banging
- 1:40:04and it's 4 wide off of four, does it really matter how fast
- 1:40:07they're going if it's a good race?
- 1:40:09I don't know. That's how I've always looked at
- 1:40:11it. Yeah, and that's where again I
- 1:40:13pulled. A lot of this inspiration for
- 1:40:15these topics from conversations on Facebook.
- 1:40:18Not my conversations, but like conversations in general that
- 1:40:21you see all the time are big topics.
- 1:40:23And so I think of like yesterday at Corgan Oil, that second bee
- 1:40:27feature was just wild. And finally.
- 1:40:32Slowed down, there's a caution and that kind of brought
- 1:40:34everyone together. But there are like 14 cautions.
- 1:40:37I think Christopher, we called it best.
- 1:40:39There's like 13 or 14 uncalled cautions that could have
- 1:40:42happened, should have happened, didn't happen.
- 1:40:44And that made for exciting racing, right?
- 1:40:47Because your, your head has to be on a swivel.
- 1:40:49And it's those kind of nights that I'm like, man, 4 cameraman
- 1:40:52would have been better than one cameraman because we could have
- 1:40:54captured everything right where it's when it's 1 camera, you'll
- 1:40:57see I bounce around. I'm like, I can't cover it all.
- 1:40:59Like you got to pick a spot to do all of this.
- 1:41:01Like I can't, you got to be my frame.
- 1:41:03I got, I can't just chase you down.
- 1:41:05You got to get in my frame and help me out here.
- 1:41:07But you know, but you have that. But sometimes when I hear, you
- 1:41:12know, when I'm talking with front wheel drive racers and you
- 1:41:15know, and I agree, when you look at the pit area, yeah, you know,
- 1:41:19their pit areas usually have probably more people than a lot
- 1:41:22of. It's a back gate class.
- 1:41:23It's a back gate, right? You know.
- 1:41:26But when you look at the stands and, you know, you look at small
- 1:41:30car nationals and it's not like it was a weak crowd, but it was
- 1:41:32definitely I could show up when the show started and get a top
- 1:41:36row seat somewhere. Like I wouldn't have had to
- 1:41:37fight anybody for it, whereas a couple days prior to that for
- 1:41:41their Slinger nationals, right? It's near sell out and you have
- 1:41:45reserved seating, you have all these things.
- 1:41:47And so I kind of think that sometimes when I hear it, it's
- 1:41:52almost like, OK, we need to kind of lay it to rest a little bit.
- 1:41:56Because if you go to a promoter or a track owner and you try to
- 1:42:00convince them, oh, you know, I'll bring 20 front wheel drive
- 1:42:03cars and we'll pack the stands and all that.
- 1:42:06And you do that and you get 50 people to watch you.
- 1:42:09But your purse, you know, is 5000 payout, you know, start to
- 1:42:15finish, that's that's a problem, right?
- 1:42:1950 people aren't paying that and you better have sponsors that
- 1:42:22are helping with that. And if you don't have sponsors
- 1:42:26helping with that, then somebody's got to cover it,
- 1:42:28right? And even these big shows, these
- 1:42:31V8 shows, those there are a lot of those shows that go upside
- 1:42:33down too. And that's that's a I'm sorry
- 1:42:36that sorry, turning off. That's what I was kind of
- 1:42:37thinking as we continue to have the discussion.
- 1:42:39I don't even know if this is necessarily just a front wheel
- 1:42:41drive issue. I think it's kind of late models
- 1:42:43versus everything else, isn't it?
- 1:42:44I mean St. stock if there's not. Many St.
- 1:42:47Stock shows or there's not many shows where St. stocks are the
- 1:42:49headliner and Flagger Boy had a really good crowd this year.
- 1:42:52I'm thinking Flagger Boy, but it wasn't a Sizzler crowd.
- 1:42:55No, no, Sizzler. Yes, Sizzler.
- 1:42:58Was pretty was a little bit fuller than that.
- 1:43:01So I think I the I just go. Back going back to my point, I
- 1:43:04think it's part of the issue is the sport of as a whole has had
- 1:43:10an issue marketing itself for the last probably 6-7 years.
- 1:43:14Yeah, well. Well, even if you think the
- 1:43:16social media era, if you go even post COVID, you haven't
- 1:43:20recovered a lot post COVID because everything changed then
- 1:43:25whether we want to say it or not.
- 1:43:27And you know, so if you think about that like if you go.
- 1:43:32Before COVID right there were some.
- 1:43:33Struggles. Some tracks, kind of figured out
- 1:43:36some things and we're keeping strong crowds.
- 1:43:38But since then, I mean, now look at movie theaters.
- 1:43:42I can watch it on my TV at home with my own bag of popcorn that
- 1:43:46I paid $0.90 for $0.50 for instead of 525 for a small bag,
- 1:43:53right? I can watch the movie.
- 1:43:59That's in the movie theater. Right now I just pay rental for
- 1:44:02a couple days or whatever, right?
- 1:44:04So I even think it's more so yes, it's a 20 year like we are
- 1:44:08not, we didn't get out of the 80s very well, right?
- 1:44:11And we're and some of us think it out of the Bill Clinton years
- 1:44:14very well either, right? Like, but then if you really,
- 1:44:17really go deeper, I mean, Monica Lewinsky came out pretty well.
- 1:44:20But other than that, you know, if you go post COVID, everything
- 1:44:27changed. Putt putt golf courses are not
- 1:44:31as full as they used to be. Yeah, Dr. Throughs aren't 24
- 1:44:34hours no more. Right, right Pokémon.
- 1:44:37Go is not as popular as it was when everyone was so excited.
- 1:44:41Like hey, people are out of the house.
- 1:44:42Like, remember the news talking about like people are out of the
- 1:44:44house and talking to strangers and like, like, like, yes,
- 1:44:49stranger danger, but not everyone is like dangerous,
- 1:44:52right? Like, so I think that's the
- 1:44:54thing that we got to wrestle with is that one, we have to
- 1:44:58convince people to come back to the tracks and give it a shot. 2
- 1:45:02We can't just, you know, we, we, we got to find a way because
- 1:45:05look at look at I was right, Drew Jack was wrong on Saturday
- 1:45:09about our attendance. Just to put that out there in
- 1:45:12the universe, he had a prediction and I had a
- 1:45:15prediction and Randy had said a rough ballpark idea and I
- 1:45:19celebrated in Love's parking lot going I was right then.
- 1:45:22That's all that matters. I don't care what the real
- 1:45:24number is. I was right and and he didn't
- 1:45:27have a real number, but it's closer to my number than Jews
- 1:45:30number. So just throwing that out there
- 1:45:31since he made fun of the Notre Dame schedule.
- 1:45:33But anyways, you know, it's how can you get that night at
- 1:45:38destruction crowd to you know. Come.
- 1:45:44Check out weekly racing, right? Like that's always our biggest
- 1:45:47crowds to look at. And you know what it comes down
- 1:45:50to is like, why aren't they coming to watch us, right?
- 1:45:54Look at MLB outside of the Chicago Cubs.
- 1:45:59Go to New York Yankee game, you can get a seat anywhere you
- 1:46:02want. The prices are ridiculous by the
- 1:46:04way. Also part of the problem, short
- 1:46:05track racing doesn't have a pricing problem.
- 1:46:08It has a mentality problem of people think that 10 bucks
- 1:46:11should still be the entry fee. I'm telling you, M 40s probably
- 1:46:14not making money, you know, just to throw that out there with
- 1:46:17your ticket. They're probably making a lot of
- 1:46:19sacrifices to keep that ticket low with sponsorship money and
- 1:46:22all that other kind of stuff. But you know, with their payout,
- 1:46:25you just do the math. It's they're they're they're
- 1:46:28probably not making money. Even though all these people
- 1:46:30think race tracks owners are rich and famous and all these
- 1:46:33things like, Nope, they're making sacrifices, I promise
- 1:46:36you. And if, if they are making
- 1:46:38money, then that's news to a lot of people, you know, because you
- 1:46:42just did the math, you go and you look at the attendance and
- 1:46:45you do it times 10, you know, and then you go, oh, the Crown
- 1:46:49Vics paid this much, the street tax paid this much, start to
- 1:46:51finish, right. You just do the math and then
- 1:46:53you look at the pit area and you go, you know, 2.1 multiplier per
- 1:46:57car. Yeah.
- 1:46:59And you do that math at $30 and you're like, it's tough, right?
- 1:47:03Like, so you know, the days of, well, the the tickets cover the
- 1:47:08OR the sponsors cover the purse. No, they don't.
- 1:47:12They don't. There's a track in the area that
- 1:47:14literally had a huge race and their sponsor didn't cover first
- 1:47:17place. Yeah, you're you're lucky if the
- 1:47:19sponsor. Covers the banner that the
- 1:47:21sponsor's on sometimes. Oh yeah, don't get started on
- 1:47:24that. That's the thing too, that A.
- 1:47:25Lot of people don't understand like a lot of times tracks are
- 1:47:28paying for those banners this but they're using the sponsor
- 1:47:31might need to pay for the banner, you know, so they're not
- 1:47:33right. That's a lot of times those
- 1:47:34sponsors are seed money at the start of the year that helps the
- 1:47:3720,000 to $40,000 that they need to open the gates to order the
- 1:47:41first food, to order the tires, to order the fuel, to order, you
- 1:47:45know, to pay the workers for cleaning up the track and doing
- 1:47:47all things like we just don't live in an era.
- 1:47:51In fact, I was talking to the track owner on on Sunday on my
- 1:47:53way to Corrigan and I said a lot of people don't understand
- 1:47:57nowadays, right, The the cost it is to just open a gate, right?
- 1:48:03And two, there's a mentality where some people say, well,
- 1:48:07this track is only for profit. They only want to make profit.
- 1:48:11Yeah, well, one a lot of. Tracks are going under.
- 1:48:14Week after week, night after night, outside the night of
- 1:48:16destruction events. But two, if you want
- 1:48:19improvements to the facility, they got to have money from
- 1:48:21somewhere. They can't just lose money.
- 1:48:23And I sometimes think when you hear racers say, well, I lose
- 1:48:26money too racing, well, sometimes you're making the
- 1:48:29choice to buy a part that's more expensive than this brand that
- 1:48:33would get you the almost the same result.
- 1:48:35Maybe not as fast, maybe not as this, maybe not as glorious,
- 1:48:39maybe not a name brand. But you know what?
- 1:48:42If you buy Spartan Corn, it's the same people who make craft
- 1:48:48corn, you know, it's just a different package, just so you
- 1:48:51know, right. So, and back to our point
- 1:48:54earlier about I mean. Hornet racing and all that.
- 1:48:57I took my my my stock as a bone. Hornet out.
- 1:49:00Yeah, couldn't be more stock. Took it out stop the Motor
- 1:49:03Speedway on Saturday and it was 6 quick out of 40 cars won the
- 1:49:06fast heat was going to the front of the A before I screwed
- 1:49:09myself. So I mean, if people want to
- 1:49:12complain about cost and everything all the time, there
- 1:49:14is a class. You just just miss it.
- 1:49:17Yeah. Well, and I think that's.
- 1:49:18Sometimes, right? Who said it on here?
- 1:49:22Someone I can't remember the gas, but they're like, racers
- 1:49:24are their own worst enemy, right?
- 1:49:25100 percent, 100% of the And the promoters who give in to the
- 1:49:29racers, yeah, they, they deserve.
- 1:49:30Some of the blame too, but. Yeah, racers are always.
- 1:49:32Going to ask for more despite themselves.
- 1:49:35Yeah, and I think Candy Hat is the one who told.
- 1:49:37Someone one time stop racers from themselves Yes.
- 1:49:41I think Kenny even said that this year and that's why that
- 1:49:43came to mind. Is on the show I believe yeah
- 1:49:46Yep. You know is.
- 1:49:47That. Right, like the shocks.
- 1:49:50Well, this shock is what I could get, but for 400 bucks more I
- 1:49:54can get this and I'll do all these wonderful things that
- 1:49:58right, whatever it is. And I don't know all the parts,
- 1:50:00so I'm not going to pretend to know, but but I just see all the
- 1:50:02discussion and the debate and it's like, do you really need
- 1:50:05that much? You know, do you need that one
- 1:50:08per SE? Yeah, it may be better
- 1:50:10performing. But the other shock that was
- 1:50:13$400.00 less could have got you close to the same results,
- 1:50:16right? And maybe not the exact right,
- 1:50:19but but it's one of those things that then, you know, when you
- 1:50:22go, well, owners and promoters need to pay more.
- 1:50:27Well, you made the choice. To buy A50. $1000 front wheel
- 1:50:30drive Why does the. Owner need to pay more.
- 1:50:35Because you spent $50,000 on a front wheel drive 100%.
- 1:50:38And you know what? And in my opinion.
- 1:50:40There's going to be people out here that don't like this, but
- 1:50:43what fixes a lot of that problem is putting the front wheel drive
- 1:50:45class back on radials. Take them off racing.
- 1:50:47Oh yeah, put them on radials. They're.
- 1:50:50Not. Those big old motors aren't
- 1:50:51going to do nothing on radials. They might help.
- 1:50:53They're going to help them a little bit, obviously, but it's
- 1:50:55not going to make as big of a difference as they do on
- 1:50:57Hoosiers. You're in a real cost back in.
- 1:50:59Put them on radials. Well, and thinking about that,
- 1:51:01I. Agree with that too, because
- 1:51:04that's been a big discussion. I don't know how this is going
- 1:51:06to show up on the screen, but this is something I've talked
- 1:51:08with a lot of drivers. So like Anthony, others, so Aunt
- 1:51:11April has on here. Well, it hit me the other night
- 1:51:14that drivers that use Disney and other cartoon characters are on
- 1:51:18to something. It draws the little ones into
- 1:51:19rooting them on just by look and the parents pay to get in
- 1:51:22whatever draws the young generation.
- 1:51:24Not only do I think those Disney characters do that, but painted
- 1:51:29cars, yeah. They're like if you go to
- 1:51:33Painesville, OH. Well.
- 1:51:37But I mean think about this do. You need to spend 2.
- 1:51:41Let's throw a number out, 2000. That may be low balling, but
- 1:51:44let's say do you need to spend two $3000 on a full wrap for
- 1:51:48your car? Whereas if I go to Painesville,
- 1:51:51OH, almost every car in the pit area is hand painted by one or
- 1:51:55two different people. And they had that old school
- 1:51:58nostalgia feel and they stand out right there.
- 1:52:02Even at Grundy, there are a couple cars that were hand
- 1:52:04painted where I'm like, Oh, this is really sharp.
- 1:52:06And they say, Oh yeah, this is hand painted with there's no way
- 1:52:08that this is hand painted and it was hand painted.
- 1:52:12And, and I think like, yes, those wraps look nice.
- 1:52:16Yes, they whatever, but that's two or $3000 that you really
- 1:52:21need to do that, right? Like in fact, there's a guy in
- 1:52:24Grundy, he went to O'Reilly Auto Parts.
- 1:52:28He's on a Facebook Live. He went to O'Reilly Auto Parts.
- 1:52:32He said, what's the cheapest paint you got?
- 1:52:34And it's like this goldish, brownish gold.
- 1:52:39And it stood out, right. It stood out.
- 1:52:41And I'm like, and a lot of people are going to him because
- 1:52:44the car stood out right. And I get it.
- 1:52:47Everyone likes black cars with neon letters and all these
- 1:52:49things. And, and I get that.
- 1:52:52And sometimes it's easier to keep in a black car 'cause
- 1:52:54you're not putting as much into it.
- 1:52:55And I, I understand black cars. I'm not against that.
- 1:52:57Like I understand that. But but I think the Disney
- 1:53:00characters, like the work that that Anthony Dual and Matthew or
- 1:53:05Matt Elsie senior put into that design stood out The Bluey car.
- 1:53:10I know people stand out at Galesburg.
- 1:53:14Ray Robertson the Ninja. Turtles and how much he.
- 1:53:16Embraced his ninja turtle, you know, right, like people
- 1:53:19remember that kind of stuff. I think of the angry Unicorn and
- 1:53:22no, that's not and some people say a race car, but remember
- 1:53:25itself an auto show. The a little kid said mommy,
- 1:53:28mommy, that's a real race car. And they weren't pointing to the
- 1:53:31$50,000 car parked across from her.
- 1:53:34They are or it's probably $80,000 car.
- 1:53:36Let's be real. They were they're talking to the
- 1:53:38$500 car. Whatever cost her to get that
- 1:53:41right. And like the angry Unicorn, the
- 1:53:43shark, right? These cars stand up.
- 1:53:45Ham bone had ham bone. Yeah, with ham bone, right?
- 1:53:48And you know, so I think it's those kind of things like
- 1:53:52getting creative and, and I shared the story of Illiana with
- 1:53:55a lot of people what got me hooked.
- 1:53:57Drivers going through. So the shulers did this and
- 1:53:59others did it too. But going through the stands
- 1:54:02with tire turds, they would take tire turds off their tires at
- 1:54:05the end of the night or they would walk the track and they'd
- 1:54:07collect them at the end of the night.
- 1:54:08Because you can go like Kalamazoo, you can walk at the I
- 1:54:10don't know if you should walk on the track at the end of the
- 1:54:12night, but if if you did, there's tire turds all over.
- 1:54:15Yeah, and but it's one of those things like that's that's what
- 1:54:20got me to really fall in love and want to be a racers.
- 1:54:23That damn tire turd, right? It wasn't anything fancy.
- 1:54:26It wasn't the AI generated hero card.
- 1:54:29It wasn't a checkered flag. It wasn't.
- 1:54:32And it was a tire turd that cost them nothing.
- 1:54:35They already paid for the tire, right?
- 1:54:36Giving the turds out to kids cost them nothing.
- 1:54:39They were already peeling it off the tire to begin with, and so I
- 1:54:43think it's things like that like finding ways to connect and so I
- 1:54:46definitely you know, I've had a lot of discussions with drivers
- 1:54:50now I'm not saying don't be slick, right like Nick Presser's
- 1:54:53car looks amazing. It's not a full wrap, it's
- 1:54:55stickers, but it looks amazing. You know, Billy, Billy Yates
- 1:55:00always has a very simple cars. Yep, you know, I you know, but
- 1:55:04it's you know, when you look at some of the wrap prices that
- 1:55:06people are paying for wraps and then, you know, when you talk
- 1:55:09about the cost racing, well, you didn't need to put that rap on
- 1:55:13Yeah, granted I'm a horn racer, but most.
- 1:55:14Of my car has been rattle canned, this one was not.
- 1:55:17This one was not and then made one.
- 1:55:18Corner. Yeah, yeah, I wasted that money.
- 1:55:22Yeah. Well, Trevor.
- 1:55:23So, Trevor? Hoekstra, his yellow and black
- 1:55:25car that he has now, That's the way it came. the IT had the I
- 1:55:28think they did the black roof. Maybe.
- 1:55:30I'm trying to remember what they said.
- 1:55:31Careful with that yellow and black man.
- 1:55:33Yeah. The yellow car.
- 1:55:36And I'm like, it stands out. And I was telling him Miguel's
- 1:55:38work. I said, you've actually done
- 1:55:39better since you had this. And if you think about Austin
- 1:55:41Maynard, remember Austin Maynard did like a different color
- 1:55:43scheme a few years ago, had the worst luck.
- 1:55:45And then he went back to his normal colors and it's like the
- 1:55:48world righted around him. And, and so Trevor's like
- 1:55:52you're, you know, kind of right. And he's thinking about that
- 1:55:53too, Like I've had a lot better luck just keeping it this way.
- 1:55:57And he had fancy cars. Again, I'm not against fancy
- 1:55:59cars, like I'm not against that. I'm just saying like, if you're
- 1:56:02cutting costs, you're looking at costs.
- 1:56:03There's ways to cut costs and take that from even me, like
- 1:56:07every, you know, I'm not shy about it.
- 1:56:08I'm deficit spending all the time and, and anytime I think I
- 1:56:13get close and something happens. And so like right now I have
- 1:56:17disks that need replaced, $90.00 each to get the disks that I get
- 1:56:21on Amazon. I went this use it should be 20
- 1:56:23bucks. How's it 90 bucks?
- 1:56:24It's crazy I'm like I can't replace these discs right now.
- 1:56:27I don't have the money to replace them.
- 1:56:29I'm already almost 2000 in the hole.
- 1:56:32I can't go more. This is the time of year where
- 1:56:35is there's no making up and we're at the end of the year,
- 1:56:37right? There's, I'm out of the core of
- 1:56:39the season, right? So, you know, the, the, the
- 1:56:43YouTube money, the little of it that comes in, it's going to go
- 1:56:46low now. It's not going to be where it's
- 1:56:48been. And so I'm like, I, I'm going to
- 1:56:51get maybe 1/3 of it. And so I'm like, I can go get a
- 1:56:55Happy Meal at I can't even afford a McDonald's anymore
- 1:56:58sometimes. But, but it's, you know, I mean,
- 1:57:02the other day, what I paid from McDonald's, I'm like, this is
- 1:57:04supposed to be fast food. You know, I'm like, I could go
- 1:57:07to Culver's for this price. But, but yeah, but it's one of
- 1:57:10those things that like I've been looking at my, my budget sheet.
- 1:57:12I'm like, well, if I didn't host a podcast every month, I
- 1:57:15wouldn't be paying 4499 for that if I didn't write, although I
- 1:57:18love the podcast, right? But if I like compare costs,
- 1:57:21it's like, you know, I cut SmugMug that was 288200 and $82
- 1:57:26that I didn't have to pay this year.
- 1:57:27That's helpful. That's a lot of money.
- 1:57:29And yeah, I didn't have to pay for that.
- 1:57:32So that's helpful. Otherwise that would have been,
- 1:57:35that would have put me over 2000 in the hole, well over 2000 in
- 1:57:38the hole. I would have been near 3000 in
- 1:57:39the hole, right. So I've trimmed costs a lot this
- 1:57:41year. I haven't done as much as I
- 1:57:43wanted to, but it's one of those things, right?
- 1:57:46Like, you know, I kind of go and I'm like, well, I did, did I
- 1:57:49need that? I probably didn't need that.
- 1:57:51Why did I do that? Or you know, so I think that's
- 1:57:55one of the things when we think about cost and we think about
- 1:57:57all that and think about what we race and how we race, I think 1
- 1:58:02to kind of go back to this, we just need to think 2, being
- 1:58:05realistic about costs. And with front wheel drive
- 1:58:07racing, like it's exciting. We need to market it that way.
- 1:58:10We need to show them those exciting B features and a
- 1:58:12features that come down to the wire just like a street sack
- 1:58:16race, you know. But at the same time, we need
- 1:58:19to, we need drivers to help us go well, you just need to give
- 1:58:22us 1000 win. Guess what?
- 1:58:24I've seen front wheel drive races 1000 to win.
- 1:58:27And I'm not talking about Corrigan, by the way, because I
- 1:58:28know Benny and April are on this is not them.
- 1:58:30But I've seen other people put $1000 to win races in the other
- 1:58:34States and like once was it Pennsylvania?
- 1:58:38I would. Say it's Pennsylvania is out.
- 1:58:40East Pennsylvania or New York, they had a 5000 to win front
- 1:58:43wheel drive race because racers said they wanted it, not they
- 1:58:47had 100, excuse me, 175 fans at a $15 ticket.
- 1:58:55And for 5000 win, they had 12 front wheel drive show up.
- 1:59:01Yeah, and. And.
- 1:59:02Or. Pure stocks, I think was they
- 1:59:04call them out there too, like Illinois, but but either way for
- 1:59:075000 win and another track cancelled their show, which was
- 1:59:1420 ish miles away, cancelled their show, told their drivers
- 1:59:18go support this race. You know, whatever nobody went,
- 1:59:25you know, so it's like it's not always more money, right?
- 1:59:28It's we just got to help each other with all this Mark from a
- 1:59:30marketing standpoint, getting people out, doing the Tetra
- 1:59:33trucks, doing the different things, having sharp cars, but
- 1:59:35also like does it need to have the $2000 wrap on it, right?
- 1:59:40Like, you know, we can't expect we can't expect track owners or
- 1:59:44promoters to just keep forking out more money unless you help
- 1:59:47get more people in the stands. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:59:50Exactly. We we keep yeah.
- 1:59:52And we I'm going back to the little things that that Matt, I
- 1:59:55like. I always to go back to it on
- 1:59:57this on this show. Sparky the clown I felt in when
- 1:59:59I was a kid. Oh yeah.
- 2:00:01It was a cheap American flag suit and some face paint and the
- 2:00:05little, you know, 10 cent suckers that he handed out to
- 2:00:07kids. And I think about Sparky every
- 2:00:09day of my life almost. It's those little things that I
- 2:00:12think about the Eminem's car from when I was a kid, like.
- 2:00:15Owasso has the Lightning McQueen streets.
- 2:00:17Yeah, yeah, that stuff matters. Kids that hooks a.
- 2:00:20Kid, that kid remembers that and then he thinks about school that
- 2:00:23week and he tells another kid about it.
- 2:00:25I went to Owasso Speedway and I saw the Lightning McQueen truck.
- 2:00:27You should go to Owasso Speedway.
- 2:00:30Oh no. And I think again, that's.
- 2:00:32How can we get creative? How can we get people out there?
- 2:00:34How can we put on quality racing?
- 2:00:36Because as I was talking with the guys last night at Corrigan
- 2:00:39and I know we went late way later than I planned, but you
- 2:00:41know, with Corrigan, I said the quality, it's not the issue of
- 2:00:44quality racing here. Even last night, everyone would
- 2:00:46probably meant it was a little bumpy, but it's still
- 2:00:48entertaining, right? I you weren't bored.
- 2:00:51It was just like, wow, this is not what a Sunday show.
- 2:00:54I mean, they literally put slug and slugfest and but you know,
- 2:00:59it's still entertaining racing. You know, Matthew LC Junior
- 2:01:03after having his little freak incident, you know, still
- 2:01:06finished the race, didn't go full throttle the rest of the
- 2:01:08night, but then came from pretty much the back of the feature and
- 2:01:12feature 2 still won that race had a battle.
- 2:01:15He had to earn it. But once he got up front, then
- 2:01:17he was OK. But you know, that bee feature,
- 2:01:20like I said, that bee feature was just that be feature too.
- 2:01:24I mean, I'm like this is wild shit.
- 2:01:26It's after 9. It is wild shit out here.
- 2:01:29And you know, so you had that right.
- 2:01:31So and the modifieds, the first modified feature was bumpy.
- 2:01:35The second feature, though, pretty clean.
- 2:01:38I in fact, they almost went Greenway checkered the whole
- 2:01:40race, which is what they kind of have all year.
- 2:01:43Like they've had great racing. Connor Landis and the leader got
- 2:01:47Gettin got tangled up. Connor took the tap, which is
- 2:01:51respectful thing to do. Like he knows he did it and you
- 2:01:55know, but you have things like that where it's like it's not
- 2:01:57the content of race or quality of racing here.
- 2:02:01So it's not the content that viewers can watch with their own
- 2:02:03eyes. It's what is it, right?
- 2:02:05Why aren't people not coming out to Corrigan, which is a
- 2:02:07beautiful facility. They have affordable food
- 2:02:10prices. They have, you know, the nice
- 2:02:14bathrooms they have like they do online ticketing.
- 2:02:18They have, you know, comfortable grandstands.
- 2:02:21It's like, so why are people not coming, right?
- 2:02:25Even on a Friday? It's not just a Sunday thing.
- 2:02:26It's why aren't they coming? Because you know, the you got a
- 2:02:29solid group of employees there who are trying their best,
- 2:02:33right? That doesn't mean every night's
- 2:02:35perfect. That doesn't mean every night's
- 2:02:36hunky Dory. But then it's like you got all
- 2:02:39these drivers who are coming, but you know, it's like, how can
- 2:02:44we get more? People out how can.
- 2:02:45Can can we get more people here? That's the tough part about the
- 2:02:49discussion. It always comes.
- 2:02:50Back to well, I don't know. Yeah, well, that's the thing,
- 2:02:52right? There are no answers.
- 2:02:53But then it's like, but if you go, you got to try.
- 2:02:56You got to try shit. We're after 9:00 you got?
- 2:02:58To try shit, Yeah, he's going to throw shit at the wall and see
- 2:03:01what's. Stick.
- 2:03:01Savannah Bananas. Look at what they did.
- 2:03:03They kind. Of broke the rules of baseball.
- 2:03:05Yeah, they made their own. And hey, it's not.
- 2:03:09That's really my I haven't seen it live, so maybe it's a little
- 2:03:11different, but it's not really my thing.
- 2:03:13But hey, it's somebody, not watches, yeah?
- 2:03:15Yeah, it's working. They're selling out MLB
- 2:03:17stadiums. And like football stadiums and
- 2:03:19shit like that, aren't they? So Yep, Yep, yeah, I I've not
- 2:03:23watched a. Game, but like I said that when
- 2:03:24I saw mom watch it the one time I went.
- 2:03:29I didn't know this as a thing TikTok.
- 2:03:32Yeah, but you know, but it's one of those things and, and and
- 2:03:35obviously she's a, you know, she's older, right?
- 2:03:38So that's it. But it's it must be marketing to
- 2:03:41her because, and you know what? I bet it's helping baseball a
- 2:03:44lot, too. Yeah.
- 2:03:46Yeah. Well, look at the numbers there.
- 2:03:47But I'm sure that the. There's been some crossover from
- 2:03:51people who've gotten into baseball because of whatever the
- 2:03:53goofy stuff in Savannah Bananas. Yep.
- 2:03:55I mean, because again, you got to take out the.
- 2:03:57Chicago Cubs because win or lose, Wrigley Field's always
- 2:03:59going to be full. I mean, it's Wrigley Fields,
- 2:04:01right? Tourist attraction as much.
- 2:04:03You right, right. You know you.
- 2:04:05Have those kind of teams who are always going to have of that,
- 2:04:08right? You know, Notre Dame, even in
- 2:04:10its worst years, still kind of filled the stadium, right?
- 2:04:15I watched them lose to Connecticut and triple.
- 2:04:17Overtime with sold out right right Marshall.
- 2:04:20Right, whatever, right. You know Michigan Stadium, they
- 2:04:24don't have a high turnover rate on their tickets like they win,
- 2:04:28lose or draw, right? Yeah, they are going to have
- 2:04:31different things. I mean it might take them a
- 2:04:33second to catch up, but still. But it's like so you have those
- 2:04:36brands who are going to have that, but then you have other
- 2:04:38brands who they just would love to have 50% full, right?
- 2:04:44That would be a sell out for them and so.
- 2:04:47I think it's one of those. That, you know, we need to have,
- 2:04:52and I've said this to some owners, it's almost like we need
- 2:04:54to have a brainstorming session with drivers, with stakeholders,
- 2:04:58with whomever, with sponsors, right?
- 2:05:01We need to get other voices in. And we may not be able to do
- 2:05:05everything someone says. That's not the reality.
- 2:05:07There's some things that like, well, insurance dictates that.
- 2:05:11So we can't change that, right? There are some things insurance
- 2:05:13does dictate, but there are other things where it's like,
- 2:05:16you know, if you just roll out and here's your race program,
- 2:05:19opening ceremony, heat races, intermission feature.
- 2:05:26OK, 1972 called and said it wants its program back right
- 2:05:32where you go to core again. And I know not everyone's a fan
- 2:05:34of it, but like for their Sunday specials, they were doing only
- 2:05:38features and then they did their twin features.
- 2:05:41It got a couple more people there, got some people to come
- 2:05:44out, but it's a little different pace, it's a little different,
- 2:05:47something you have. Australian pursuits can change
- 2:05:51things up a little bit. Even at Kalamazoo at our night
- 2:05:53of destruction on Saturday for the championship round of
- 2:05:56spectator races, rather than doing like a traditional
- 2:05:58spectator race where you stop at the start finish line, you line
- 2:06:01up like you're in Greece and then you green go and you one
- 2:06:06lap. They did rolling starts, they
- 2:06:08did something different with it. Now, the preliminary rounds
- 2:06:11were, you know, from a start. Stop.
- 2:06:14Start. But the championship was a
- 2:06:16rolling, it added a little element to it, a little
- 2:06:19something different and a little something fancy, right?
- 2:06:22You don't need to spice it up all that much.
- 2:06:24You just need to change things up and it's OK to change some
- 2:06:27nights up. I'm not saying change everything
- 2:06:30and do it all season, but like has special nights in there
- 2:06:33where like, hey, this night we're going to do Australian
- 2:06:36Australian pursuits and then we're going to go into features
- 2:06:40or the Australian pursuits are going to help set the feature or
- 2:06:43whatever weird stuff like do something different and see if
- 2:06:46it sticks or not. Twin features.
- 2:06:48Grundy had a packed crowd. Now super late models and night
- 2:06:52feature has been a long. Time Yeah, staple there.
- 2:06:54Yep, Now super late models help Lee.
- 2:06:57Schuler helps, but there are a lot of people who stayed after
- 2:07:00that feature too. So yes, there are a lot of
- 2:07:02people who left, but there are a lot of people who stayed too.
- 2:07:04They had a nice crowd, so it's like throw something different
- 2:07:08every now and then. I'm gonna give, I wanna give
- 2:07:11M40. Some credit on that.
- 2:07:12I think they one their theme nights that they do.
- 2:07:15I think that's a good idea and I don't know.
- 2:07:17I don't know their books, so I don't know how.
- 2:07:18Much of a difference is made, obviously, but I think it's a
- 2:07:20cool idea. For one, I think the way that
- 2:07:22they've marketed their big races in a lot of cases is cool.
- 2:07:26The judgement days, judgement days, I think that was really.
- 2:07:29Cool how they did that and also. I had one more point and I
- 2:07:32thought losing it, think about it, this isn't racing, but their
- 2:07:36night of destruction stuff when they leading up to that first
- 2:07:39one with Wichter. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:07:41It's like they were almost doing like skits on the payment
- 2:07:44between their page and Wichter's leading up to it.
- 2:07:45I thought that was awesome and I think that probably made a big
- 2:07:48difference. So, well, I think some of it is.
- 2:07:52You can't just. Do something once.
- 2:07:54And throw it out the window if it didn't work.
- 2:07:57And sometimes I think there's a hesitancy where if it didn't
- 2:08:01work once, we're not doing it again because people wanting
- 2:08:05owners and promoters, some not. And I'm not picking on anyone
- 2:08:08specifically, I'm just saying in general, they try it once
- 2:08:11because I see posts from all over New Mexico wherever I see
- 2:08:15promoters all the time posting stuff on Facebook.
- 2:08:18You got the guy down in Florida at Sunshine or whatever that is
- 2:08:22Speedway who's always something and but right, you can't just
- 2:08:27give it one time. You have to go a little further.
- 2:08:32Jim Leisure with his Figure 8. I told him last night, I said
- 2:08:34your figure eights are so fun to watch.
- 2:08:36And he said we had to work on it.
- 2:08:38He said. We had to put our arms around
- 2:08:40the guys and and we had to coach him and we had to do different
- 2:08:43things and we had to teach them how to put.
- 2:08:47On a show. You know, you don't, You're not
- 2:08:50crashing each other in the first lap.
- 2:08:51And then we take out the whole field and we have nothing left,
- 2:08:53right? Like, you know, do a few things,
- 2:08:56you know, like Tina Lewis is sharing crowd interaction, you
- 2:08:59know, theme nights, crowd interaction.
- 2:09:01I'm going to highlight that. Do you know what Grundy did at
- 2:09:03intermission? They rolled out a freaking bus
- 2:09:05with Big Daddy and on the roof. That's his nickname, Big Daddy
- 2:09:10with and he's their Victory Lane announcer.
- 2:09:12But then they dance. They sung.
- 2:09:14I went to get a jacket. I can hear the crowd and I had
- 2:09:18to walk a little bit away, but he's standing on the freaking
- 2:09:21bus. They did the T-shirt toss,
- 2:09:24right? So he's on the school bus with
- 2:09:25headset singing Sweet Caroline and something else.
- 2:09:29And then he did a promo at the same time as they're pulling
- 2:09:34off. Hey, if they didn't tell you, we
- 2:09:35have our night of thrills this coming Saturday.
- 2:09:38School bus, Figure 8 racing. And guess what was parked at the
- 2:09:41front entrance and along the highway there.
- 2:09:43When you pulled in, all you saw were like 1012, whatever it was,
- 2:09:47school buses, literally, you had to pull through them to pull
- 2:09:50into the parking lot. And they had banners everywhere
- 2:09:53advertising all all their shows. I took a couple pictures of them
- 2:09:57cuz I'm like, this isn't hard. It does cost like the banners
- 2:10:00cost some money, but they put their buses out there.
- 2:10:03Not every track has a front entrance like Grundy.
- 2:10:05Let's be real. Kalamazoo, Springport, Corgan
- 2:10:10oil, right? They have more real estate.
- 2:10:11They can do that. New Paris does not have that
- 2:10:14real estate and 40 does and 40 has some real estate to work
- 2:10:17with. New Paris.
- 2:10:18They're so landlocked. They don't have that with the
- 2:10:21way their fence is, they can't put something at the front there
- 2:10:23like that. But you know, could they put
- 2:10:26something across the street with like a, if they're going to do
- 2:10:30like a night of destruction or late model St. stock, like ask a
- 2:10:33guy who's local, like, hey, can you come out here?
- 2:10:36We want to hang a banner or whatever.
- 2:10:37And I'm saying, and I'm not picking on New Paris.
- 2:10:39I'm just giving an example of like what Grundy did that seemed
- 2:10:42to work right? And obviously night of thrills
- 2:10:44and night instructions are going to sell crowds anyways.
- 2:10:47But but if you have someone on a school bus who's literally and
- 2:10:51that bus sent race that night, it didn't do anything other than
- 2:10:53pulled out. He shot a few T-shirts and they
- 2:10:56pulled it off the track. It's like the new Paris Fire
- 2:10:58Department coming on and watering the track, right?
- 2:11:00So it's like if you could do that kind of crowd interaction
- 2:11:04and your cheek. We didn't do Mankind Monday
- 2:11:06tonight, but you're doing a cheap plug at the same time for
- 2:11:09upcoming shows or schedule. Like you're you're literally
- 2:11:12dancing and singing and throwing out T-shirts and telling them to
- 2:11:14come to the next show. Right, Right.
- 2:11:16Yeah. Scott Gates in the chat one.
- 2:11:18Thing I remember from the 90s going to Kalamazoo is the old
- 2:11:21souvenir souvenir program. Yeah, I talk about the 100% we
- 2:11:24should bring back souvenir programs.
- 2:11:26I love those and miss those. That's definitely something that
- 2:11:29they're so expensive. To make nowadays.
- 2:11:31I hear you. I hear you, Matt Elsie.
- 2:11:33And them did that. And they got stuck with so many
- 2:11:36programs they ended up they lost money doing it they cuz they
- 2:11:39made lucky programs with OK well and this is my next point but
- 2:11:43even. Simpler when I was a kid at
- 2:11:44South Bend I very distinctly remember because it was a big
- 2:11:47part of me going to the racetrack.
- 2:11:49You walked in the pic when you bought your tickets.
- 2:11:51At the ticket gate there was a stack of yellow printed paper
- 2:11:54that had the point standings with printed out on them.
- 2:11:56Yes, I agree with that point. Stand.
- 2:11:59Yep, I sat there. That was my Bible.
- 2:12:01Sat there. You could match the 55 inch
- 2:12:03Chuck Maggio 42 is Dave Mania. I sat there and announced the
- 2:12:07races with my pit, my point standings in front of me because
- 2:12:09I have my names and numbers. The little stuff like that makes
- 2:12:11a difference. Yep, it's to connect with the
- 2:12:13drivers that way. Yep, little.
- 2:12:15Things printer paper. Printer paper, Yep.
- 2:12:17And and Illinois when? I was in Illinois, the one thing
- 2:12:21that I liked hearing, and I'm on the roof at Kalamazoo, so I
- 2:12:24can't hear every conversation. I'm on the roof in New Paris.
- 2:12:26I can't hear every conversation. Galesburg.
- 2:12:29I'm around people and I haven't heard it at Galesburg or Corgan
- 2:12:32Oil. But what I heard there's
- 2:12:34families in front of me who are going what, because they had a
- 2:12:37program, I believe they had something and it, and it had a
- 2:12:40spot in there with boxes. Pick a number for a race and
- 2:12:43they were picking numbers and something like that.
- 2:12:45Yep, I want the yellow car, the yellow car.
- 2:12:48And so 'cause they, the kid couldn't read the number.
- 2:12:50So the dad said, Oh, you want that car?
- 2:12:53And they wrote it down. And I thought, man, that's so
- 2:12:55cool. They're picking numbers.
- 2:12:56I remember that we used to do that all the time at Hartford
- 2:12:59and the Hartford program. They literally had a spot with a
- 2:13:02spreadsheet box basically of, you know, pick your numbers,
- 2:13:05right. And you know, kids club, you
- 2:13:08just don't see those kind of things anymore.
- 2:13:11You know, they do. I mean, they do cost money to
- 2:13:13get trophies and all that, but you know, that's one thing you
- 2:13:15just don't see a lot of our kids clubs and places.
- 2:13:19And so so I definitely think there's room for growth, but it
- 2:13:22always comes down to here's what I'll tell you.
- 2:13:25I hear owners and promoters in my ear right now going, so who
- 2:13:28does that? Who's paying for that?
- 2:13:31Who's working yet? Because like this Saturday, this
- 2:13:34past Saturday at Kalamazoo Quality Graphics, they didn't,
- 2:13:38they weren't able to sell as much maybe as they could have
- 2:13:41because they didn't, they couldn't find help to go into
- 2:13:44walk to the stands to sell a souvenir program or to sell a
- 2:13:47glow up stick or whatever. But or do 5050 at the same time.
- 2:13:51Doesn't that kind of go back to our discussion?
- 2:13:53About having a problem marketing though the support marketing
- 2:13:56itself, I think the tracks are just.
- 2:13:57As much a fault. With that, I know it's a hard
- 2:13:59job, I know there's a lot of money on the line and I know
- 2:14:01they're short staffed in a lot of situations, but I do think
- 2:14:04there's a lot of times they could be doing more too.
- 2:14:07Yeah, and I'm not going to disagree, right?
- 2:14:09Because I think, again, it's not everything costs money.
- 2:14:12It might cost a little time, which time is money?
- 2:14:15A $20 carload night does not cost the track.
- 2:14:17Money and then it might ultimately, you know, work out
- 2:14:20where maybe they don't make as much or whatever, but I don't
- 2:14:22know, that makes a difference. Maybe we get some more people in
- 2:14:24the stands and maybe those fun of those people come back.
- 2:14:27Yep. Well, I think that's the thing.
- 2:14:29That that is the thing that you know, Kalamazoo.
- 2:14:34Did Christmas in July 10. Dollar ticket.
- 2:14:37And it felt full, right? It obviously wasn't a sellout,
- 2:14:40you know, like Saturday, but it was full.
- 2:14:42It felt full, right? And and it looked nice.
- 2:14:45And, you know, you add it up and you go, OK, you know, you could
- 2:14:49have someone who says, well, but I could have got $15.00 for each
- 2:14:52person here, $18.00 for each person here.
- 2:14:55OK, do that. How many people leave?
- 2:14:58How many people did you not get because it was a 15 dollar
- 2:15:01$18.00 ticket? And then how many people spent 8
- 2:15:04to 15? Dollars less at the concession
- 2:15:06stand because they spent more dollars to get in.
- 2:15:08So, you know, I don't think you necessarily need to do.
- 2:15:10Like a dollar night, which I know is super popular in
- 2:15:12Northwest Indiana, but the concession sales are bonkers.
- 2:15:15Like I will give credit for that, right?
- 2:15:17But I don't think you do need to do a dollar night.
- 2:15:19But I do think like, OK, at $15.00, you had 200 fans.
- 2:15:25At $10, can I get 400 fans? Can I get 500 fans?
- 2:15:28Can I like? You already have empty seats, so
- 2:15:30you're not losing money that way.
- 2:15:34Could you give a discount? Could you do a happy hour where
- 2:15:36if you come between 3:00 and 4:00, gates open at 212
- 2:15:42wherever, you know, each track is different, but happy hour you
- 2:15:45come now you get a discount at kind of Niall's haunted house
- 2:15:49does this kind of stuff where they have discount coupons and
- 2:15:51discount tickets and discount things where hey, you come
- 2:15:54during this time, now can everyone come during that time?
- 2:15:57No, I understand that. But, you know, I think, you
- 2:16:00know, you could do it maybe from, like a, if your program
- 2:16:03starts at 6:00, maybe from 4:00 to 5:00, it's a happy hour.
- 2:16:07All tickets are 10 bucks. I could see where that could get
- 2:16:10in trouble. That's why I'm thinking if you
- 2:16:11did it earlier. But then it's like, are you
- 2:16:14rewarding people who could come early?
- 2:16:15Not everyone can. Or, you know, do you find ways
- 2:16:19to do it? Because right now, at a $15
- 2:16:21ticket, if your bleachers are empty, well, you didn't make
- 2:16:23money anyways. So if you did a $10 ticket, at
- 2:16:27least you got $10. Yeah, maybe you sold one or two
- 2:16:30more. Tickets.
- 2:16:30It'd probably be more. Than that but you know you sold
- 2:16:33a few more tickets that you did in at 15 so it's like I don't
- 2:16:36know does it really does it hurt you because it's empty right now
- 2:16:39So you know like obviously people are not rolling running
- 2:16:43each each other over to get a seat so but with that I know
- 2:16:47it's like 916 and I think we could go ahead I had another
- 2:16:50point that I lost so I think that.
- 2:16:52Means it's time to Oh no, but I mean.
- 2:16:55Like I said, we went a little. Longer, like I said, you know, I
- 2:16:57apologize for some of the show graphics.
- 2:16:59I've just obviously not in a clear state of mind, but I'm
- 2:17:02like, I'm going to push through. We're going to get through the
- 2:17:04show and and, and all that and I'm going to you know, but I
- 2:17:10obviously clicked a few different things wrong tonight
- 2:17:12than usual. Usually pretty smooth with it,
- 2:17:14but I'm going to give myself grace today.
- 2:17:16So, but other than that, I will come up with new questions for
- 2:17:20next or new topics for next time.
- 2:17:23Again, anyone can Facebook or whatever say, hey, make this a
- 2:17:26question or topic Like it doesn't have to be just Lewis
- 2:17:29coming up and stuff all the time, right?
- 2:17:30So, you know, we want everyone to engage.
- 2:17:35With this obviously. With this discussion, there are
- 2:17:37a lot of people, especially Tina.
- 2:17:39I want to thank Tina. She's a very loyal listener on
- 2:17:41all the time. Obviously Scott Gates, Bill
- 2:17:44Russell's usually on here. I didn't see Bill tonight and
- 2:17:46she jumped in. Obviously moment had Ralph was
- 2:17:49in here Benny in April. A lot of people start watching
- 2:17:52from the start of the show. But again, I want to thank
- 2:17:54everyone for for joining us tonight.
- 2:17:57We kept you. I mean it's not unusual for us
- 2:17:59to be about 9:15, but tonight I wasn't I I always say this Buju.
- 2:18:03I don't plan to go late, but then I don't know.
- 2:18:07But the discussion's fun too and that's where I kind of cut back
- 2:18:10on guests. I'm even thinking next time if
- 2:18:13you know, not next Monday because that's Grundy centric.
- 2:18:16But like as we get to October and it's more truly offseason
- 2:18:19about kind of maybe having guests in the first hour, then a
- 2:18:22guest in the second hour, but putting some things between just
- 2:18:26to kind of change it up a little bit so that people don't feel
- 2:18:29like they're watching the same movie all the time.
- 2:18:32But I hope the I hope that people like the roulette, you
- 2:18:36know, like I said, throw in if you have other segments, you
- 2:18:38know, you that you want us to do.
- 2:18:40I'm all for stuff because as we cut back on Thursday, I want to
- 2:18:43bring some of those elements over and of course, the roulette
- 2:18:47could be sponsored. Definitely looking for marketing
- 2:18:50partners. We have a couple.
- 2:18:53I mean, we have a lot of, you know, the podcast can definitely
- 2:18:56be a lot of leverage for some marketing opportunities with
- 2:18:59different things. This could be, you know,
- 2:19:01somebody's re rewind roulette and have their logo right there.
- 2:19:04As you see, I'm dying to do an ad read.
- 2:19:07I'm dying to. Do somebody sponsor the show so
- 2:19:09I can do an? Ad read Yep.
- 2:19:11I mean and I don't want to get. That's one thing I do watch some
- 2:19:13podcasts, but and I listen to Busted open radio, right?
- 2:19:16And they have some reads they have to do.
- 2:19:17I'm like, oh, it kicks away from the discussion though.
- 2:19:20But but I want to build in breaks like we did between Sean
- 2:19:23and Bree, right? I purposely built in a break for
- 2:19:25us. That way we can kind of preview
- 2:19:27this for those who want to stay around.
- 2:19:29But you know, as you see Federated Auto parts, the LHD
- 2:19:32tailing and national compact logos on this entire show.
- 2:19:35So we can add other sponsors there and your logo will be
- 2:19:38there the entire show. Engage the whole time, not just
- 2:19:41for a segment here, a segment there.
- 2:19:43Listen to the silky smooth voice.
- 2:19:44You don't want this doing an ad read for you.
- 2:19:47No, I mean we could do ad reads. I'm not.
- 2:19:48Against that, right, I just, you know, I, I listen to some of
- 2:19:51those podcasts or shows, I'm like, oh, it, it just takes away
- 2:19:54sometimes like bust it open Billy.
- 2:19:57I'm a weird radio nerd so I OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:20:00In a weird way, yeah. But yeah, like on I 'cause I
- 2:20:04listen to Busted Open Radio when I'm driving to tracks and and
- 2:20:07Bully and Dave Lagreca, Bully range of Lagreca will be deep in
- 2:20:11a conversation. They're like, OK, they come back
- 2:20:13and they do the Chumba Casino ad in a Chumba, chumba, chumba,
- 2:20:17Chumba Chumba. I'm like, oh, it's such a good
- 2:20:19discussion. Like, I hate that one.
- 2:20:21I hate that you had to go to commercial.
- 2:20:22Yeah, I get it, though. You got to pay the bills, but
- 2:20:24two like, oh, now I got to listen to that stupid.
- 2:20:28I almost said a different word, stupid Chumba casino.
- 2:20:32Now I get it. They sponsored racing and maybe
- 2:20:34there's a thing but but and they make it fun where they have like
- 2:20:38the Chumba and the whole background Chumba, chumba,
- 2:20:40chumba, chumba and they do different things.
- 2:20:42Like they make it fun. And I'm not against ad reads,
- 2:20:44but sometimes like it's just so produced.
- 2:20:47That reminds me Dale on the Dale Junior podcast.
- 2:20:49They've been running an ad for the past few months for
- 2:20:51something called Peyronie's disease, which you know what
- 2:20:54that is. Look up and boy, it's wild.
- 2:20:57That this has been an ad replay five months on the Dale Junior
- 2:21:00download. Some of them are crazy.
- 2:21:01I'll hear what you're saying. I'm here.
- 2:21:02What? You're.
- 2:21:03Saying. I mean, could you be the guy?
- 2:21:05Could you imagine the one who has to read the one for like
- 2:21:08poop Ray or whatever that is like or whatever.
- 2:21:10What is it called? Potpourri or whatever.
- 2:21:14Yeah. And you got dude wipes?
- 2:21:15No. Dude wipes.
- 2:21:16Yeah, Yeah, Blue. Chew I like some of the ones
- 2:21:19that they have to. I mean, we're giving cheap plugs
- 2:21:21here right now, But some of the ones that they have to read, I'm
- 2:21:23like, I just want to be the guy who writes the check to the guy
- 2:21:26who had to read that. You know, I just want to I want
- 2:21:30to be in those. I want to be in that production
- 2:21:32meeting where you hand the script over and say, I need you
- 2:21:34to read this on the air. It's a 32nd read and it's also
- 2:21:39talking about all these things. So have fun.
- 2:21:42I'm like, I just want to be. A part of those.
- 2:21:44Conversations sometimes, but be that you have erectile
- 2:21:47dysfunction yeah yeah oh boy. I think we officially went off
- 2:21:53the rails now, but hopefully no one's constipated because
- 2:21:57Preparation H, at least according to Austin Power Sun,
- 2:22:00does feel good on the whole, but.
- 2:22:06Sign us out of here. Get us out of here.
- 2:22:09So with that said, if you need preparation, preparation, Asian
- 2:22:14life, just know Austin Powers, son.
- 2:22:17I forget his name, damn it. But now that it's going to
- 2:22:20bother me now I'm going to have to watch Austin Powers.
- 2:22:22But it just whatever but. Don't forget this.
- 2:22:27Thursday, Boojie and I are back on Thursday is we have stuck
- 2:22:31pretty close to one hour show each time on Thursdays.
- 2:22:34That's not going to change. That's it's going to be that is
- 2:22:37our quick show. That's why it was easier to cut
- 2:22:39out of the lineup because it's like it opens up our Thursday.
- 2:22:42So hopefully, Boojie, you've enjoyed some of your Thursday's
- 2:22:45open and then don't forget, Oh, that was the quick trivia and
- 2:22:49I'm just clicking shit. But Tina.
- 2:22:51Tina Lewis, 24 years. Yeah, Tina Lewis, you know, 24
- 2:22:55years. That was our trivia.
- 2:22:57So if you have a trivia question, like I said, I'm going
- 2:22:59to ask Ron for some things. But if you want some trivia in
- 2:23:02here, you can be a part of a rebrain brain Buster, which you
- 2:23:05also could use a marketing partner.
- 2:23:09Of course, like I said, we have plenty of room for a logo here
- 2:23:12to have the rewind roulette. And I like those colors, by the
- 2:23:14way. I worked on that for a little
- 2:23:15bit today. It was a nice logo it looks
- 2:23:18like. It looks like something that
- 2:23:19would be on top of a slot. Machine.
- 2:23:20I don't know how. Many casino.
- 2:23:21That was the goal. That was the goal.
- 2:23:23So I. Looked at casino logos and
- 2:23:25roulette logos and I looked at different ones and I did this
- 2:23:28while crying by the way, just so you know too so I also I'm not
- 2:23:31trying to laugh at you, but yeah Oh no so I.
- 2:23:34Obviously was. In all the fields when I was
- 2:23:36doing this and you know, and I'm like, well, it's our same.
- 2:23:39It's the exact same font. I just I literally copied the
- 2:23:42Monday night rewind font. I copied the logo, I changed the
- 2:23:45letters and then I changed the colors and did different things.
- 2:23:49So I do like that it's I like those colors and if I didn't
- 2:23:52like our rewind logo too much, I would change those to those
- 2:23:55colors. But The thing is that I don't
- 2:23:57remember the combo that I exactly did here.
- 2:23:59So to duplicate it would be a pain in the ass because I don't
- 2:24:02quite remember how I did it. But once it landed there, I'm
- 2:24:04like, I like that and I'm done. But, but again, Brie Brady was
- 2:24:09at at the start of the show. So if you missed a conversation
- 2:24:11with Brie Brady, she's definitely nervous to come on.
- 2:24:13You know, she did a fantastic job.
- 2:24:15But but she was about 710 is when she came on.
- 2:24:20So if you look at the time stamps, she would be about 10
- 2:24:22minutes into the show, 11 minutes because our entrance is
- 2:24:26one minute. So she's about 11 minutes in and
- 2:24:29she went about the 1st 40 minutes give or take.
- 2:24:32And then Sean Sprague was the next 30 ish minutes after that.
- 2:24:37And then since about 8:15 and I have been doing our roulette
- 2:24:41discussions where we talked about a couple of things.
- 2:24:44That one, like I said, we're not going to do 3 topics all the
- 2:24:47time. The goal was one topic.
- 2:24:48But I thought well, we kind of got through that.
- 2:24:51It's about 8:30 so we could throw in one more.
- 2:24:54But next Monday is going to be a very Bahama bracket heavy show.
- 2:24:57So if you're interested in the Bahama brackets or you want to
- 2:25:01know, you know, you want to know anything about Granny County
- 2:25:06Speedway, we're going to have Brian Kusaba on.
- 2:25:08He's going to help get a bunch of guests on that I'm going to
- 2:25:10then connect with and send the links.
- 2:25:13He even mentioned possibly getting next Tremier Rich Bowl
- 2:25:15since they have racist and they're more local.
- 2:25:18But we'll talk a lot about that. And then don't forget, I know
- 2:25:22Parker from MCR Dwarf cars. Message me for champions.
- 2:25:26Please let your champions know if you know championship drivers
- 2:25:29that you know. We have segments for them so
- 2:25:32definitely want to get them on. We can even get them on
- 2:25:34Thursdays too. I would prefer Mondays because
- 2:25:36that is the flagship, but you know, we can spread them out on
- 2:25:39Thursdays too to get them on and get through all the Champions.
- 2:25:43So I will be reaching out to more.
- 2:25:45I know a couple people already commented like Kyle Klein and
- 2:25:48some others, but I figure we just had a couple different
- 2:25:51things going on that it changed the the the goal originally.
- 2:25:56But Bree was her first official champion getting on.
- 2:25:59So I'm glad that we were able to talk with her.
- 2:26:02But other than that, Buju, I got to pick the right graphic here.
- 2:26:05It's not Showtime. It's extra closing time, but I
- 2:26:08don't have a graphic for that, so we'll just say Showtime.
- 2:26:10But anyways, I hope everyone has a great night, a great week.
- 2:26:16Other than that, now I got to. Get in a frame.
- 2:26:21All right, Buju, it's almost time to turn left.
- 2:26:23And go fast because we'll see you at the races.
- 2:26:26See ya.
