- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the first of many Patreon recordings
- 0:12Speaker 1: with this new series that Katie and I will be reviewing. Guys,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I want to go ahead and apologize. We just literally
- 0:19Speaker 1: talked about this right before recording about a structure of these.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It will get fine tuned and it will possibly be
- 0:33Speaker 1: perfected by the end of this. But there's only like
- 0:36Speaker 1: twenty books in this exactly.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But the series that we are.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Going to be talking about is Star Wars the New
- 0:46Speaker 1: Jedi Order.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Katie, excuse me.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Katie brought this on to me about a month ago,
- 0:55Speaker 1: a little less than a month ago. Little did I
- 0:59Speaker 1: know that Katie has already talked about this book. I
- 1:06Speaker 1: talk Akay book, Yeah, on two occasions. There is a
- 1:10Speaker 1: scene in this book that you've talked about twice with
- 1:14Speaker 1: me being in Star Wars Alliance. We've talked about one
- 1:18Speaker 1: particular scene, and I've said before like, oh, that seems
- 1:24Speaker 1: very traumatic. I wonder how it's all gonna play out.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It was very traumatic, and uh, it played out for
- 1:32Speaker 1: the rest of the book, by the way, like that
- 1:35Speaker 1: was all the rest of the book, y'all.
- 1:38Speaker 3: This book came out. This book came out October fifth,
- 1:43Speaker 3: nineteen ninety nine is by R. A. Solidur. So this
- 1:46Speaker 3: book is mega olds weed. This is your spoiler warning
- 1:49Speaker 3: if you haven't read this, where you're not like Clay
- 1:52Speaker 3: hid the big moment. But I'm gonna tell you what
- 1:54Speaker 3: it is right now. So the five four three two
- 2:00Speaker 3: one the moment that Clay is talking about that, yes,
- 2:04Speaker 3: I had talked about that several times. Is Chewie dies
- 2:06Speaker 3: in this book. It's the first time. And I highlighted
- 2:09Speaker 3: a quote by Han where he talks about his bubble
- 2:13Speaker 3: and how he thought, like, oh, the Skywalker solo family
- 2:18Speaker 3: is invincible, like I never thought it would happen to
- 2:21Speaker 3: any of us. Like he literally says that in the
- 2:24Speaker 3: book it was supposed to be a major moment to
- 2:28Speaker 3: kick off this new era of Star Wars books. And
- 2:35Speaker 3: so R. A. Salvator, I think he wrote the Goody
- 2:40Speaker 3: not the Goonies, ghost ghost bumps.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:45Speaker 3: He has a lot of legend of drizzt.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yes, so uh Salvator is very big in the UH
- 2:54Speaker 1: D and D.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Right, that's right. We talked about this.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, very fantasy driven, which when.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You read this it is I think that is one
- 3:08Speaker 1: of my only complaints. And this will go into our
- 3:11Speaker 1: overall like thoughts of this book, and I want to
- 3:15Speaker 1: get this one out of the way first because I
- 3:17Speaker 1: think it is my only thing that I have to
- 3:21Speaker 1: kind of nitpick.
- 3:22Speaker 2: About this book. M hm.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Salvatore was like, oh, I have to write science fiction,
- 3:29Speaker 1: so I have to make this the most complicated thirteen
- 3:33Speaker 1: pages of chapter that I could possibly do, and like
- 3:38Speaker 1: there is he does. He does it with like almost
- 3:40Speaker 1: every chapter he gets on this on he gets on
- 3:43Speaker 1: this like writing rampage of just like descriptive things that
- 3:49Speaker 1: are just so freaking science y that I'm just like,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I need to take a break from this.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I like, let's move on, please.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I had honestly forgotten about this. It's been. Like I
- 4:01Speaker 3: said in today's episode of Star Wars line, I read
- 4:05Speaker 3: this book probably six or seven times is probably is
- 4:11Speaker 3: like I love this series. This is a series that
- 4:14Speaker 3: I grew up with. This Like we talk about like
- 4:19Speaker 3: Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi as like being like
- 4:23Speaker 3: where I got my start, but like this, this is
- 4:26Speaker 3: where I grew to love Star Wars right here, because
- 4:30Speaker 3: the use on Vong are just creepy and like so overwhelming,
- 4:36Speaker 3: but like one of my biggest complaints with some of
- 4:40Speaker 3: the newer Cannon books, has been so many perspective shifts,
- 4:45Speaker 3: but I forgot how many perspective shifts take place in
- 4:50Speaker 3: this book, and they are a lot more jarring than
- 4:55Speaker 3: I remember them being, because like in the newer books,
- 4:59Speaker 3: you have like a little m dash, little Jedi symbol
- 5:04Speaker 3: if it's happening within the same chapter, as like your
- 5:07Speaker 3: signal for a perspective change or a new chapter. But
- 5:11Speaker 3: in this one is literally paragraph one, Luke and Mara,
- 5:15Speaker 3: paragraph two, uh Lando and Han like it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It kind of just pops off and again with like
- 5:25Speaker 1: we like, I've talked about this a lot in the
- 5:29Speaker 1: last three years that we've been podcasting, but it's only
- 5:34Speaker 1: been about three years since Katie has gotten me to
- 5:38Speaker 1: teach myself.
- 5:39Speaker 2: How to scan read.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And when you're hitting these pages where you have three
- 5:48Speaker 1: different perspectives in five different pages, it's like it's it's
- 5:54Speaker 1: so jarring that you're like, hold on, back it up,
- 5:59Speaker 1: what chapter am I on?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Who am I reading? What's going on? Uh So this
- 6:04Speaker 2: would take me a while.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And I want to say this and I'm literally only
- 6:10Speaker 1: saying this because this is Patreon. There is a dedicated
- 6:18Speaker 1: YouTube channel that and I found out, like I looked
- 6:22Speaker 1: more into it.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I guess they're just really big into Star Wars. They
- 6:28Speaker 2: are really.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yeah, because so these books don't have audiobooks diys, so
- 6:36Speaker 3: a lot of people apparently decided to do like text
- 6:42Speaker 3: to speech and things. So Clay did that. I read
- 6:46Speaker 3: like book.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I did the the YouTube video for this book, I
- 6:56Speaker 4: would I would say about thirty five to.
- 6:59Speaker 1: The my reading experience was listening to this, and then
- 7:05Speaker 1: I was just reading the hell out of it, like
- 7:08Speaker 1: right before bed, right when I was waking up, and
- 7:11Speaker 1: during my lunch break, because I took my book to
- 7:14Speaker 1: work with me, So while I was doing stuff in
- 7:19Speaker 1: the warehouse at work, I was listening to the YouTube video.
- 7:23Speaker 1: While I was doing dishes here at home, I was
- 7:25Speaker 1: listening to.
- 7:25Speaker 2: The YouTube video.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And I will say, the text to speech voice is
- 7:31Speaker 1: not as super robotic, and I didn't even know that
- 7:34Speaker 1: it was text to speech until the very end of
- 7:37Speaker 1: the novel, where I was literally finishing up dishes before
- 7:43Speaker 1: we started recording that. It was like, oh, thank you
- 7:47Speaker 1: for blah blah blah, and please know that this was
- 7:50Speaker 1: a text to speech blah blah blah.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I'm like, holy crap.
- 7:53Speaker 1: This sounds like almost like a narrator, which is kind
- 7:57Speaker 1: of terrifying by the way, considering like all of the
- 8:02Speaker 1: stuff that's going on with like AI audio books and
- 8:07Speaker 1: how voice actors are like fighting for that and like
- 8:11Speaker 1: you know, trying to keep their their jobs with the
- 8:14Speaker 1: voice acting and everything else.
- 8:15Speaker 2: With these with audible and all of these things.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So that's absolutely terrifying, which is why, like I even
- 8:23Speaker 1: went on this rant while we were recording on our
- 8:25Speaker 1: railer show trying to just pick normal freaking physical books
- 8:30Speaker 1: and reading them with my eyeballs instead of just listening
- 8:34Speaker 1: to them with my ear. But yeah, like the going
- 8:39Speaker 1: back to the actual book, I just felt like sometimes
- 8:43Speaker 1: it was way too sci fi, but the overall story
- 8:52Speaker 1: I thought was really fun. So, uh, talking about that
- 8:59Speaker 1: structure and we're going to talk about these books. One
- 9:02Speaker 1: of the first things we mentioned before jumping on this
- 9:06Speaker 1: recording is favorite characters.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I really liked Jana.
- 9:20Speaker 1: I knew you would, and surprisingly like she has a
- 9:26Speaker 1: lot of dot she has a lot to do, but
- 9:28Speaker 1: she doesn't have a lot to do in this book.
- 9:31Speaker 1: She's kind of there, but she is like around like
- 9:36Speaker 1: she she is. You kind of feel like her in
- 9:40Speaker 1: the sense of like you're also in the background, you're
- 9:43Speaker 1: absorbing the information, and this is all what Jane is
- 9:47Speaker 1: doing because she is there to learn from everybody in
- 9:51Speaker 1: this book, which I do love.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I do love that.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Like in the very beginning of this book, like we
- 9:59Speaker 1: find out that she is being basically uh.
- 10:05Speaker 3: So she's a Jedi Knight, but she's completing an apprenticeship
- 10:09Speaker 3: under Lara. Yeah, and her brothers Jason and Anaka are
- 10:14Speaker 3: Anakin are doing the same thing under Luke. So that's
- 10:17Speaker 3: kind of the first couple of perspectives that you start
- 10:20Speaker 3: off with in the book. But I really love Mara
- 10:24Speaker 3: and Jana's relationship as kind of almost sisters innocence or like,
- 10:32Speaker 3: like it's like that like those sisters where they're like
- 10:37Speaker 3: twenty years old then they have a sibling kind of thing.
- 10:40Speaker 3: It's kind of like that, I feel like with Mara
- 10:43Speaker 3: and Jana. I don't know, Like, I really love this book.
- 10:48Speaker 3: It's full of a lot of heart with all the
- 10:50Speaker 3: different characters. That's one of my favorite things that Salvator
- 10:54Speaker 3: does is he really just expands on the characters in
- 10:58Speaker 3: ways you didn't think you need it. And so like
- 11:05Speaker 3: in particular and reading this book because I think this
- 11:08Speaker 3: is the first time I've read this book since I
- 11:10Speaker 3: had my migraine diagnosis, and so getting to know mar
- 11:16Speaker 3: again when she's fighting the molecular disease is really powerful
- 11:21Speaker 3: and heartbreaking for me.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Now, Like I didn't know what the hell was going
- 11:27Speaker 1: on because they they don't touch on it like the
- 11:33Speaker 1: first the first instance, like something happens, they kind of
- 11:36Speaker 1: just like push bast it.
- 11:39Speaker 2: But then there's this.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Whole moment where you get to see maa kind of
- 11:43Speaker 1: in her feelings vulnerable for I don't know how much time.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like a lot. By the way, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: want to go ahead and say this from the books
- 11:54Speaker 1: that we have personally read on the Star Wars Alliance show,
- 11:59Speaker 1: we have read the Throng trilogy, and we have read
- 12:05Speaker 1: two books in the Jedi Academy series. We're still missing
- 12:11Speaker 1: that third one. And then I have personally read Eye Jedi,
- 12:17Speaker 1: which I have found out is kind.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Of in between.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Book two and three of Jedi Academy. So that's all
- 12:26Speaker 1: I have seen and or heard from Mara. Right, Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 1: So I've never really seen Maara ever vulnerable, So when
- 12:37Speaker 1: I see her in this book, bawling her eyes out
- 12:43Speaker 1: because of how weak she is getting from this disease,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and then there's like a serious conversation about conception if
- 12:53Speaker 1: she's ever going to be able to do that. I
- 12:58Speaker 1: was like, somebody who is a new parent, I've had
- 13:04Speaker 1: these conversations with Abby because at one point there was
- 13:08Speaker 1: like our thought process was, Wow, we don't think we're
- 13:13Speaker 1: ever gonna have kids because we just kept trying and
- 13:16Speaker 1: nothing was happening. Yeah, So to be in that moment
- 13:22Speaker 1: again kind of was very surprising for the character of Mara.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I think, like, honestly, I.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Would have expected that kind of storyline to hit with Leah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: not with Mara because of how Marara was introduced. But
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think it's stronger with Maraa because of the character
- 13:47Speaker 1: of who she is.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Uh yeah, I do as well. And there's like some
- 13:54Speaker 3: really powerful quotes in like later books from her, like
- 13:57Speaker 3: as she like reflects on it and everything. We won't
- 14:00Speaker 3: go into that now, but like some of my favorite
- 14:03Speaker 3: quotes from Star Wars have been from Maraa Jade, and
- 14:06Speaker 3: it's like there was some more that I was highlighting
- 14:09Speaker 3: in this one. I was like, man, that's so good,
- 14:11Speaker 3: Like it's just really powerful stuff, especially like so I'm
- 14:17Speaker 3: looking at her Wikipedia and apparently because I did not
- 14:22Speaker 3: remember this, her disease story takes place in another like
- 14:28Speaker 3: it's in like a magazine story, so like you, like
- 14:33Speaker 3: most people probably have not read that. But yeah, Mara
- 14:39Speaker 3: is really powerful in this one, especially now coming from
- 14:42Speaker 3: I've got chronic disease issues. So she's definitely one of
- 14:47Speaker 3: my favorites in here. Danny, I forgot how much I
- 14:50Speaker 3: love Danny h Danny Queen is a twenty one year
- 14:53Speaker 3: old scientist who is basically the first time the first
- 15:00Speaker 3: human to knowingly interact with the Yuzon vong. And she's
- 15:06Speaker 3: so good. She's so inquisitive but gets so strong, Like
- 15:11Speaker 3: what did you think of gilman Car declaring her as worthy?
- 15:15Speaker 3: But like the Prefect Tagara doesn't declare the Jedi Knight worthy.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Uh Yeoman Carr.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yelman Car was the scientist hiding the use on Bong,
- 15:32Speaker 3: hiding on Belkadon.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, I thought all of that was interesting.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I thought this was okay. So again I did say,
- 15:43Speaker 1: I do want to pull back from my statement from
- 15:46Speaker 1: the very beginning because this part so I did say, hey,
- 15:50Speaker 1: sometimes this book was a way to science fiction.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Wait, like it leaned. I did feel like it leaned
- 15:57Speaker 2: way more into like a or the thing.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Like some of the eight like the classic eighties sci fi.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and a lot of people love that.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I'm not a huge fan of that, but I do
- 16:12Speaker 1: love the aesthetics sometimes, Like the background that we are
- 16:16Speaker 1: literally having in this recording room right now, is that
- 16:20Speaker 1: aesthetic for sure?
- 16:22Speaker 2: But like the mystery of the of the what is
- 16:28Speaker 2: the species again? The use onong you can just call them, yeah,
- 16:33Speaker 2: the vong and like.
- 16:36Speaker 1: We also get like this uh uh racist against droids, dude,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Like like there was There's so much here that I
- 16:51Speaker 1: did like because it leaned into the sci fi.
- 16:55Speaker 3: M hm. So is the character you're talking about now,
- 17:00Speaker 3: I'm anure and so that's not so he's a techno folk.
- 17:06Speaker 3: The whole species is a techno folk. Oh. So, like
- 17:11Speaker 3: you see Yoman Car when Luke and Maracota beltadon, Yeoman
- 17:15Speaker 3: Car loses it when he sees R Shoot two, Yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 3: because he's like you should not be here.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Like, so was it what?
- 17:26Speaker 1: I can't remember if it was Car or if it
- 17:30Speaker 1: was anore. That like even made C three po really
- 17:36Speaker 1: like uncomfortable.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that was three po with a nore.
- 17:40Speaker 1: A nore, Yeah, because like anre like like he kind
- 17:44Speaker 1: of like leans in and like is like saying all
- 17:46Speaker 1: of these like really creepy and like hey, if you
- 17:50Speaker 1: don't leave, I'm gonna kill you type of things.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 1: C three is like peace out and like that's the
- 17:56Speaker 1: first I think it's the first time in all of
- 17:59Speaker 1: the three pos like history that he was speechless, like
- 18:04Speaker 1: he didn't have anything to say, and he like he
- 18:06Speaker 1: just got the hell out of air.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I thought that.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Was so interesting because there's a there's even a moment
- 18:17Speaker 1: near the beginning of the story where again it's one
- 18:21Speaker 1: of those moments where you're like you have the perspective
- 18:24Speaker 1: of you're you're in this middle of dialogue with uh
- 18:28Speaker 1: with Leah, and then like the flip of a page
- 18:33Speaker 1: and Nominor is freaking telling people to stone all of
- 18:41Speaker 1: these freaking droids, and you're like, what the off, Like
- 18:45Speaker 1: what did I just turned by? Like I thought I
- 18:48Speaker 1: skipped some pages and I was like, what's going on here?
- 18:52Speaker 2: And it's so.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Creepy, Like this is I know we've talked about like
- 18:58Speaker 1: Witchcraft and Star Wars and Colts and Star Wars like
- 19:02Speaker 1: this felt like old school creepy cult which I dig
- 19:11Speaker 1: because again, like you, I've had this conversation with Travis
- 19:16Speaker 1: before and I kind of spoke about it in our
- 19:19Speaker 1: little g Ua Geek first crossover. Is that like, just
- 19:24Speaker 1: like how in the High Republic, there is so much
- 19:27Speaker 1: more than just like the regular oh Jedi, good guy,
- 19:31Speaker 1: Sith bad guy fight the end.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Like in Star.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Wars, there's so many different cultures, so many different ideals.
- 19:40Speaker 1: There doesn't have to be a red lightsaber going around
- 19:44Speaker 1: everywhere just to be like a good Star Wars story.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Here is a very good example. So I I dug
- 19:56Speaker 1: this villain.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Very creepy, very fun.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Are you talking about the villain being like the Vong basically? Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 20:10Speaker 3: just making sure. Yeah, this is one of my favorite
- 20:13Speaker 3: villains of Star Wars Legends. And I mean I said
- 20:17Speaker 3: twenty books earlier. This is a nineteen book series.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yep.
- 20:22Speaker 3: But some of these books are hefty, like you talked
- 20:25Speaker 3: about mass market like hef these?
- 20:30Speaker 1: I uh again, just because of my craziness with how
- 20:38Speaker 1: sporadic I am with being able to listen to a
- 20:41Speaker 1: book versus read a book on my phone versus read
- 20:44Speaker 1: a book physically. I have essentially three versions of this
- 20:49Speaker 1: book audio, digital and physical. And when I was reading
- 20:56Speaker 1: digitally again on my phone, I was trying to customize
- 21:01Speaker 1: the size of the text to really fit what I
- 21:06Speaker 1: was comfortable with reading, and like, without even thinking about it,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I would like keep track of like, okay, there I
- 21:17Speaker 1: have this many pages left of the book. But then
- 21:20Speaker 1: I would adjust the font and then I would look
- 21:23Speaker 1: at the pages again and it would like increase.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I was like, how did this book get longer? What
- 21:28Speaker 2: the hell's going on?
- 21:32Speaker 1: So I have to like get that right before I
- 21:36Speaker 1: start reading, so that way.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I'm not adjusting all the goddamn time. But yeah, this
- 21:40Speaker 2: book was actually pretty hefty.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I liked the uh this is it's a hefty book
- 21:47Speaker 1: with only twenty six chapters, that's the thing. And that
- 21:50Speaker 1: tells you right there that Salvatory loves his descriptors. He
- 21:55Speaker 1: loves to explain, he loves to get into the gritty,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it's really really good.
- 22:06Speaker 2: So for instance, oh, we'll go ahead.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Go ahead, okay, no, sorry, you finish your plane because
- 22:10Speaker 3: I was gonna dive us into the chewy desk.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah, So well this kind of goes into that.
- 22:17Speaker 1: For instance, Anakin and Jason, right, uh, yeah, So there's
- 22:26Speaker 1: a moment where they're really going back and forth on
- 22:31Speaker 1: like what it is to not only be a knight
- 22:37Speaker 1: Jedi knight, but like what symbol does your lightsaber mean?
- 22:42Speaker 1: And they get really philosophical. But like Anakin is also
- 22:49Speaker 1: and I feel like they did this on purpose for
- 22:51Speaker 1: the for the for the record, guys, Anakin and the
- 22:54Speaker 1: way that he was thinking. I'm like, this is too
- 22:58Speaker 1: close to well to the prequel series, and I'm sure
- 23:03Speaker 1: they're going to explain all of this in the next
- 23:06Speaker 1: nineteen books.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So it's not really explained in the next couple of books.
- 23:11Speaker 3: But like I've always attributed Anakin's spirit to in the comics,
- 23:19Speaker 3: when he's born, Palpatine actually takes over his body like
- 23:24Speaker 3: a little bit. And okay, so Ghost Anakin. Because Leah's
- 23:29Speaker 3: having problems with her father identity and everything, Ghost Anakin
- 23:35Speaker 3: and Luke helped defend and so Leah is able to
- 23:39Speaker 3: come to terms with her parentage at that point and
- 23:42Speaker 3: decides to name Anakin Anakin in honor of that acceptance.
- 23:46Speaker 1: So okay, that, okay, that makes a lot of sense.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Actually especially with some of the animosity that comes into this.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Book as well.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Three Po also has the audacity to call her Vader,
- 24:00Speaker 1: and I'm like, hey, yo, chill out, bro.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Like that's the whole thing.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Like you've known her longer than you've known Vader, and
- 24:10Speaker 1: you had the balls to say, Lady Vader, like chill out.
- 24:18Speaker 1: But yeah, the whole Anakin thing, Anakin adjacent thing, this
- 24:20Speaker 1: whole philosophical story. And then like Savateur's like, oh, and
- 24:26Speaker 1: they didn't have a training setting on their lightsabers and
- 24:29Speaker 1: the like they're trying He's trying to build the suspense
- 24:33Speaker 1: and everything, and I'm like, it's not that serious, Like
- 24:35Speaker 1: just say that they're good at what they're doing and
- 24:37Speaker 1: let's move on.
- 24:39Speaker 2: That whole scene I felt was probably half a page
- 24:42Speaker 2: too long, mm hmm.
- 24:45Speaker 1: But again, sometimes the long descriptive moments of a book
- 24:50Speaker 1: can be really compelling and really tell you how these
- 24:54Speaker 1: characters are thinking, Like internally, I kind of already got
- 24:59Speaker 1: that from this surfa level thoughts of Anakin like immediately.
- 25:03Speaker 2: So there's some.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Places where I felt like you probably could have slowed
- 25:07Speaker 1: your role a little.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Bit and just moved on. Yeah, but.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Dealing with Anakin. We also have to deal with the
- 25:15Speaker 1: repercussions of some of his quick thinking, which I will
- 25:20Speaker 1: admit is something that he should have done. But this
- 25:26Speaker 1: whole Chewy thing, uh, you want to you want to
- 25:29Speaker 1: give us And then.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And this is the first time a major character from
- 25:39Speaker 3: especially from the original trilogy was killed off in the
- 25:41Speaker 3: expanded universe. You think, okay, like you had like basically,
- 25:46Speaker 3: this book is seven years after Air to the Empire,
- 25:50Speaker 3: roughly in that timeframe, and so you go, okay, we
- 25:55Speaker 3: want to make a new big bad in Star Wars,
- 26:00Speaker 3: and they wanted to start off with a bang. This
- 26:04Speaker 3: is probably what pissed George Lucas off for the first
- 26:07Speaker 3: time is because he did not want them to kill
- 26:09Speaker 3: off Chewi, and he was kind of like, uh, you
- 26:13Speaker 3: do what you want to do kind of thing, but
- 26:15Speaker 3: I don't like this.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And that's when he's like, oh, yeah, this is a
- 26:19Speaker 1: fan fiction, by the way, guys.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Basically, so so Hide, Anakin and Chewie go to this
- 26:28Speaker 3: planet to help Lando out with a delivery. They end
- 26:33Speaker 3: up running into the fact that the Moon is crashing
- 26:36Speaker 3: onto the planet, and so they try to take out
- 26:42Speaker 3: the weapon of mass destruction. Doesn't have like somebody else
- 26:45Speaker 3: ends up taking it out. But they get to the
- 26:48Speaker 3: final moments and they go to rescue this toddler and
- 26:52Speaker 3: Anakin is using the forest to lift the debris off
- 26:56Speaker 3: this toddler and he gets struck over the head and
- 27:00Speaker 3: is knocked unconscious. Chewey hands the toddler to Han and
- 27:07Speaker 3: then takes off after Anakin because he is tumbled off
- 27:10Speaker 3: like you've got pressure from the moon coming in basically,
- 27:14Speaker 3: and so he takes off to get Anakin. The falcon
- 27:17Speaker 3: cannot get low enough for Chewy to jump on board,
- 27:22Speaker 3: so Chewy hands Han Anakin and basically runs off because
- 27:28Speaker 3: he knows that Han will do anything he can to
- 27:30Speaker 3: get Chewy on board, but Chewye knows that if they
- 27:35Speaker 3: stick around, everybody's gonna die and his sacrifice will have
- 27:39Speaker 3: been for nothing. And Han gets Anakin in and like
- 27:46Speaker 3: takes off after Chewie. Anakin wakes up and Hank goes, okay,
- 27:51Speaker 3: you control, I'm gonna go after Chewy and they get
- 27:54Speaker 3: close to Chewi but not enough to get in, and
- 27:58Speaker 3: Haan is like I want Anakin says I've got about
- 28:03Speaker 3: five seconds to take off or we're all gonna and
- 28:07Speaker 3: Anakin has to take off. And this is a repercussion
- 28:12Speaker 3: that lasts the rest of the book and will continue
- 28:14Speaker 3: to last and I'm not gonna tell you how long.
- 28:18Speaker 2: So but my thing with this.
- 28:23Speaker 1: And I'm not gonna say I saw it coming, because yes,
- 28:27Speaker 1: for one, I knew this was literally coming, because again
- 28:32Speaker 1: Katie has talked about this moment in.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Star Wars History twice. So when I.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Kind of saw the writing on the wall, I'm like,
- 28:42Speaker 1: here it comes, it's coming, It's gonna, it's gonna happen.
- 28:46Speaker 1: It really the moon lane, Yeah, it's it's It's a
- 28:50Speaker 1: literal moment of like, what is it Infinity War when
- 28:53Speaker 1: Thanus throws a.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Moon at Iron Man.
- 28:56Speaker 1: So in this moment, Chewey is like he falls because
- 29:03Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, the way that it describes
- 29:05Speaker 1: it is that like because of the way that the
- 29:10Speaker 1: moon is crushing the planet but not yet there, because
- 29:15Speaker 1: of the gravitational pool, the ground is quaking, things are
- 29:19Speaker 1: falling down, debris is everywhere.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Chewy falls into an abyss.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Basically, Han tries to find him, Anakin uses the Force
- 29:32Speaker 1: to sense him. He's like, okay, I can't see him,
- 29:35Speaker 1: but he's over here. Okay, turn right, turn left, dip
- 29:37Speaker 1: through this, go here, go here, and they find him.
- 29:41Speaker 1: When when all of this goes down, all you read
- 29:51Speaker 1: is how Han is not taking.
- 29:54Speaker 2: His eyes off of Chewy.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Like he doesn't care what is going on, and he's
- 30:00Speaker 1: just staring at Chewiy this entire time, And Chewie gets
- 30:04Speaker 1: up and meets the moon with a vigorous roar in
- 30:10Speaker 1: defiance like hey, I'm not going out like bitch, I'm
- 30:15Speaker 1: just going to like you can't fight the moon, but
- 30:20Speaker 1: Jeweye is gonna be He's not saying here in saying like, hey,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm just gonna sit and wait until this thing crushes me.
- 30:29Speaker 3: What the first time I read this, I was like
- 30:32Speaker 3: probably like thirteen years old, and I'm just no, yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 3: I think I was like it was like eleven pm
- 30:43Speaker 3: at night and I'm like screaming in my room. What
- 30:48Speaker 3: you doing? Like?
- 30:51Speaker 2: Oh sorry?
- 30:52Speaker 3: No?
- 30:52Speaker 2: What?
- 30:53Speaker 1: What I think hurts more than anything throughout this entire
- 30:57Speaker 1: book is the fact that immediately, not a couple days later,
- 31:12Speaker 1: not hey, I need to sit down and think about
- 31:15Speaker 1: this before I say this. Immediately after he goes to Anakin,
- 31:20Speaker 1: he says, you left him.
- 31:25Speaker 2: You did that. He immediately puts the blame onto Anakin.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Almost fifteen year old kid.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and one thing that we forgot to mention throughout
- 31:36Speaker 1: this entire book. It talks about how Anakin, Jason, and
- 31:42Speaker 1: Jana all have this like not only desire, but natural
- 31:51Speaker 1: ability to fly, just like their father and just.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Like their uncle. So like, this isn't a like, oh,
- 32:00Speaker 2: Anakin made a mistake.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yep.
- 32:03Speaker 1: No, Anakin made a calculated choice to prevent everybody from.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Dying, and he was right in that decision, like.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Honestly, and so what did you think about it? Getting
- 32:21Speaker 3: turned back on Han? In the final battle when Luke
- 32:26Speaker 3: has to save Mara, Jane, and Danny from the Jade
- 32:30Speaker 3: Saber falling out of the sky, and he does this
- 32:34Speaker 3: really cool trick, but I'm still is like this needs
- 32:36Speaker 3: to go in a live action film somewhere, Like we
- 32:38Speaker 3: need to see like shit bounce off their repulsars. And
- 32:42Speaker 3: so Luke ends up falling back down to the planet
- 32:46Speaker 3: where it's about to explode guys, basically, and Han is like, oh,
- 32:51Speaker 3: I need to go after him. But then he goes,
- 32:54Speaker 3: I've got all these people up in the sky that
- 32:56Speaker 3: are depending on me. I have Lando, I have Leah,
- 32:59Speaker 3: I have Annakin, I need to protect Jana, Like, yeah,
- 33:05Speaker 3: he has to come to the same realization.
- 33:08Speaker 1: And I don't think it would have he would have
- 33:14Speaker 1: had that same thought process if it weren't for Lando.
- 33:21Speaker 1: And the reason why I say that is a couple
- 33:23Speaker 1: chapters after the incident of Chewy's death, Lando sits down
- 33:30Speaker 1: with Han. It's like, hey, like, you need to understand
- 33:36Speaker 1: that Chewie would have literally done the same thing. Yep,
- 33:41Speaker 1: that he knew that him leaving and having you fly
- 33:49Speaker 1: off and saving thousands, if not millions of lives is
- 33:56Speaker 1: much better.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Than saving one Wookie.
- 34:02Speaker 1: And if those words would have been said by Luke,
- 34:09Speaker 1: by Lea, by Mara, by anybody else, I don't think
- 34:14Speaker 1: they would have had as strong of an effect as
- 34:18Speaker 1: it was coming from Lando, just because of their history
- 34:22Speaker 1: and everything else. I thought that was a very specific
- 34:25Speaker 1: choice that Lando decided to have those words with Han
- 34:29Speaker 1: and not somebody like Lea, because in the same breath
- 34:34Speaker 1: there was like a little bit of Lea's perspective where
- 34:40Speaker 1: she was like, oh, I didn't know Chewie for as
- 34:45Speaker 1: long as Han did, but I did have sweet memories
- 34:49Speaker 1: and I'm gonna let Han have his moment I'm gonna
- 34:54Speaker 1: let him grieve. I'm gonna let him do whatever. I'm
- 34:57Speaker 1: gonna kind of step back like I do like those
- 35:02Speaker 1: moments as well.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Is that we were able to grieve with every.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Character when it came to Chew's death, Like we had
- 35:15Speaker 1: a little bit of a moment with everybody and it
- 35:18Speaker 1: didn't like take too long. That was the really nice
- 35:20Speaker 1: thing is that, like the big voices had their moments,
- 35:25Speaker 1: their conversations, they're debating about the situation when it was needed,
- 35:29Speaker 1: whereas some people had some internal dialogue and kind of
- 35:33Speaker 1: you know, had their moment to think about Chew and
- 35:36Speaker 1: Solace and all of this.
- 35:37Speaker 2: So I really liked that moment. Oh, I was just
- 35:44Speaker 2: about to say something that I completely lost it. Oh
- 35:50Speaker 2: gosh uh okay, So Anakin che was death Mara.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Uh oh so uh speaking of Anakin and Solo's children
- 36:08Speaker 1: and everything, we.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Have a uh very not very We have another recognizable
- 36:20Speaker 2: face in this book.
- 36:21Speaker 3: N Yep from the Jeday Academy series.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Yes, uh kipt Aron for people who do not know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: and correct me if I'm wrong, because now that I'm
- 36:38Speaker 1: thinking about it, he was the one that Hans saved, right, He.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Was the one that Kessel.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like he almost turned to the dark side.
- 36:50Speaker 1: He was evil for a little bit and got turned
- 36:54Speaker 1: back to Yeah, So, like, how did you feel about
- 36:58Speaker 1: his involvement in this and like there is even some
- 37:04Speaker 1: moments still in this book where Han.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Very much seemed like a fatherly figure in the sense
- 37:13Speaker 2: of like worrying about him and like all of these
- 37:15Speaker 2: other things. How did you feel.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely is still there, even though Kip is
- 37:20Speaker 3: now like in his thirties. I would probably say seeing
- 37:27Speaker 3: Kip transform into like the I don't know I would
- 37:34Speaker 3: I would say there's like two parties in the Jedi Order,
- 37:37Speaker 3: like the more philosophical and the than the like, oh,
- 37:40Speaker 3: warriors kind of thing. He's the leader of the Warrior faction,
- 37:46Speaker 3: and in doing so, he's kind of turned a lot
- 37:49Speaker 3: of the Jedi Order against him. So seeing his character
- 37:54Speaker 3: kind of grow up in a sense and even just
- 37:57Speaker 3: taking on that role is really meaningful, especially for a
- 38:01Speaker 3: character where a lot happened to him and for him
- 38:05Speaker 3: to take the warrior side, knowing what he's gone through,
- 38:09Speaker 3: I still think is a very brief path for Kip.
- 38:14Speaker 3: And I've read this book probably in order so seeing
- 38:18Speaker 3: Kip chronologically helps a lot, because I'm sure like going
- 38:22Speaker 3: from Jeda Academy kip her on to Bector Prime character
- 38:27Speaker 3: on is very different. Wouldn't you say?
- 38:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, sorry go ahead, No no, no, you keep going,
- 38:39Speaker 1: you keep going.
- 38:40Speaker 3: So I enjoy his character as a foil to Luke
- 38:48Speaker 3: basically because that's what he turns into. Yeah, that's all
- 38:54Speaker 3: I really have on him.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Well, I like it is the I like because one
- 39:00Speaker 1: thing that I was wondering as I was opening this book,
- 39:03Speaker 1: reading the first few pages, I was like, Okay, Jane
- 39:08Speaker 1: is here, Mars here, Leah's here.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Where in the timeline are we? Yeah, because again, last
- 39:20Speaker 2: part of the timeline that I've really read is Eye
- 39:23Speaker 2: Jedi and the Academy books. Yep, this is quite some time.
- 39:31Speaker 3: After those, Yeah, because you're looking at it and that
- 39:34Speaker 3: those are probably like five aby somewhere in that range,
- 39:40Speaker 3: and this is twenty a b. Why.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Yeah, So a lot of time has passed, and I
- 39:52Speaker 1: like one thing that we haven't really talked about is
- 39:55Speaker 1: Leah and her relationship with shana Ah. And this may
- 40:04Speaker 1: be something that some people understand, some people don't, but
- 40:11Speaker 1: I really enjoyed It's a very subtle thing, and people
- 40:15Speaker 1: may roll their eyes at this, but there's a moment
- 40:21Speaker 1: when she again Leah is having some internal dialogue about Jana,
- 40:26Speaker 1: and she's like, oh, what a you know, a little
- 40:30Speaker 1: a young girl. She's like, no, not girl, a young woman.
- 40:34Speaker 1: She's turning into a you know, a fine young woman
- 40:38Speaker 1: to do the things that she wants to do, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 1: be this Jedi night, be this apprentice to Mara Jade,
- 40:45Speaker 1: you know, fly this ship like crazy, even though like
- 40:49Speaker 1: I'm not gonna let her because you know, Mara would
- 40:51Speaker 1: probably kill us, and all this other stuff.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I like the dynamic. One thing that.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I feel like was probably good was the fact that
- 41:06Speaker 1: there was not a whole lot of animosity within the
- 41:14Speaker 1: solo Skywalker family. Yeah, because even the whole Jason Anakin thing.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And I know, we're kind of reaching the point of
- 41:23Speaker 1: where we kind of wanted to Yeah, yeah, exactly, so,
- 41:29Speaker 1: so we'll move on to that after this. But like
- 41:32Speaker 1: the conversations between Jason and Anakin, like although you kind
- 41:37Speaker 1: of get this feeling of like, oh, these are two
- 41:40Speaker 1: siblings just like really kind of duking it out, there
- 41:44Speaker 1: was never a whole lot of like, oh I hate you,
- 41:48Speaker 1: Like it was just like, hey, this is this is
- 41:52Speaker 1: a teachable moment for both of us, and we're going
- 41:55Speaker 1: to you know, test our skills, like this is literally
- 42:00Speaker 1: what Luke wanted for any and every Jedi.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's yeah. I enjoyed that dynamic. Though it
- 42:12Speaker 3: does get a little bit interesting towards the middle of
- 42:17Speaker 3: the series, and that's.
- 42:18Speaker 1: All right, all right, I feel like there is some
- 42:23Speaker 1: writing on the wall with that, but again, I'm just
- 42:26Speaker 1: gonna let it play out and see how it goes well.
- 42:29Speaker 3: I don't think you're gonna remember one of the big
- 42:31Speaker 3: plot points of this series that I've spoiled because I
- 42:35Speaker 3: never thought we were gonna get here. But then ye.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Any So, so one of the things that we wanted
- 42:44Speaker 3: to kind of talk about, especially with this first book, Guys,
- 42:47Speaker 3: is sort of like some canon comparisons, And so one
- 42:53Speaker 3: of the two canon comparisons was kind of this versus
- 42:58Speaker 3: like the High Republic, because there's a lot of more
- 43:00Speaker 3: features with like the nameless kind of eating the Force
- 43:04Speaker 3: and then the use of Bog not having the Force
- 43:07Speaker 3: or not being present in the forest, but then also
- 43:11Speaker 3: looking at it, you have Ahsoka going extra galactic. That
- 43:15Speaker 3: use on bomb are from another galaxy. So, Clay, what
- 43:19Speaker 3: did you think about Let's talk about the galactic element first.
- 43:25Speaker 1: I really like this. Again, at the time, this is
- 43:30Speaker 1: probably like unheard of.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Right mm hmm.
- 43:33Speaker 1: You have, of course, the very classic Star Wars from
- 43:36Speaker 1: a galaxy far far away mentioning anything from a different
- 43:42Speaker 1: galaxy coming into the Star Wars galaxy like that's, you know,
- 43:47Speaker 1: holy crap, like what is this new thing? Like what's
- 43:49Speaker 1: going to happen here?
- 43:52Speaker 2: So I like this.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I like the very new feeling of it again with
- 44:01Speaker 1: it being as old as it is and me reading
- 44:03Speaker 1: it for the first time. There is those comparisons to canon,
- 44:11Speaker 1: but I like that even more because then you can
- 44:14Speaker 1: arguably say, oh, these small moments that we're getting in
- 44:19Speaker 1: most recent canon, you could easily chop up to oh,
- 44:25Speaker 1: they're taking a little bit of homage or some characteristics
- 44:29Speaker 1: from these elements in legends.
- 44:34Speaker 2: So I and I.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Like that because a majority of the fandom likes that,
- 44:45Speaker 1: and honestly, anything that kind of cools this fandom down
- 44:52Speaker 1: and kind of just like, hey, we're gonna throw you
- 44:54Speaker 1: a bone here and there, like, hey, you have what
- 44:57Speaker 1: you want, I'm cool with it. Keep them hand like
- 45:02Speaker 1: to a certain extent of course, because of you know,
- 45:05Speaker 1: just some of the bigotry that's all out there. But yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 1: with this, I I really enjoyed the unknown feeling because
- 45:16Speaker 1: even the way that Marra explains it, because you even
- 45:22Speaker 1: kind of gave away some of her dialogue, it's like, oh.
- 45:28Speaker 2: The force was not with him, but no, it wasn't
- 45:31Speaker 2: that the force was with him.
- 45:33Speaker 1: He was without the force. Yeah, and it's like they
- 45:36Speaker 1: didn't want anything to do with it, so it's like, yeah,
- 45:40Speaker 1: just completely absent of it was a really fun like
- 45:46Speaker 1: oh what does this mean? Even when like when Luke
- 45:49Speaker 1: was there for that instance, Mar's like, oh, you gotta
- 45:53Speaker 1: be careful, like these people don't have, you know, any
- 45:56Speaker 1: force lingering, so they could sneak up on you. And
- 45:59Speaker 1: that's kind of like he changes his perspective on how
- 46:02Speaker 1: he's going to do certain things afterward, Like it puts
- 46:06Speaker 1: our characters in situations where they do have to think
- 46:09Speaker 1: outside the box.
- 46:11Speaker 2: So I like that element.
- 46:14Speaker 3: I love it so much, and I thought like maybe
- 46:19Speaker 3: they were paralleling it a little bit more with Nameless.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Of course, the name Wills ended up being an entirely
- 46:24Speaker 3: different beast in and of itself. But I really enjoy
- 46:30Speaker 3: the elements of the Jedi having to think outside the box,
- 46:34Speaker 3: like you said, and oh going like, oh, I trained
- 46:36Speaker 3: her in acavity, but it didn't prep me for this now,
- 46:39Speaker 3: like what do I do? And I still have some
- 46:42Speaker 3: advantages because of like anticipatory force reactions, but you can't
- 46:47Speaker 3: get a read on your opponent like they're very much
- 46:51Speaker 3: used to. So that's something that I really enjoyed with this,
- 46:56Speaker 3: and you'll see in upcoming books as it kind of
- 47:00Speaker 3: expands because the use on Bong keep learning as they
- 47:04Speaker 3: go along. So I'm really excited to see how this continues,
- 47:08Speaker 3: like with your reactions and stuff with oh gosh, what
- 47:15Speaker 3: was the other thing, Oh, the higher public era esque
- 47:18Speaker 3: things like I feel like we've kind of actually already
- 47:21Speaker 3: talked about that. Like I enjoy the extra galactic things too,
- 47:26Speaker 3: And you actually see other authors in Legends kind of
- 47:31Speaker 3: sprinkle in things like Outbound Flight, for instance, by Timothy Zon.
- 47:36Speaker 3: The just talk about an extra not an extra galactor,
- 47:40Speaker 3: but an enemy that is coming. And Zhon, when like
- 47:48Speaker 3: interviewed about that specific part, he said, Yeah, that was
- 47:52Speaker 3: like an inkling of Okay, the U zone Fong are
- 47:54Speaker 3: coming and we have to be prepared for that, like
- 47:57Speaker 3: the Emperor had sensed that, so sprinkling in those mentions,
- 48:02Speaker 3: I think, like those red cons as people like to
- 48:05Speaker 3: call them, that aren't actually retcons. There's easter eggs. It's
- 48:09Speaker 3: really fun for me, especially with one hundred and forty
- 48:12Speaker 3: six books, like in Star Wars Legends, it's really awesome. So, yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 3: the higher public connections thing. I like seeing how the
- 48:26Speaker 3: journey expands and the cast also increases in this as
- 48:31Speaker 3: you go along, Like the next book features corn Horn
- 48:34Speaker 3: and another new Jedi, so I don't really consider that spoilers,
- 48:41Speaker 3: so hopefully you didn't consider this.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Like I actually like corn he is, Oh, I love Horny,
- 48:49Speaker 1: like a very fun character.
- 48:51Speaker 2: He's going to be a lot older since the last.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Time I saw him, So I'm kind of really excited
- 48:57Speaker 1: to see where he is at this moment. A little
- 49:00Speaker 1: bit of a spoiler for eye Jedi, Like at this moment,
- 49:05Speaker 1: like he is well at that moment, not at this moment.
- 49:08Speaker 1: At that moment, he is, you know, a contemplating his
- 49:13Speaker 1: life with his wife, wanting to have kids. He's finding
- 49:17Speaker 1: more about himself and his past and how he's connected
- 49:20Speaker 1: to the Jedi of old, and like all of these
- 49:25Speaker 1: different things.
- 49:26Speaker 2: So like.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Having those moments in Eye Jedi and now kind of
- 49:32Speaker 1: seeing a time jump that's gonna be really fun to
- 49:34Speaker 1: see where he is as an individual and where he
- 49:39Speaker 1: will most likely lead Luke or Anakin or Jason into
- 49:44Speaker 1: whatever adventure that they're gonna get into next. Yeah, but
- 49:48Speaker 1: I know we talked about it very minorly, but Nominor,
- 49:55Speaker 1: being the technophobe that he is, gave huge mother vibes
- 50:04Speaker 1: and like for the fact that he was able to
- 50:09Speaker 1: get like all these people to completely massacre like these
- 50:15Speaker 1: droids and then have like a droid graveyard.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Yes, so wild to me.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Like again, it's like a super creepy thing that
- 50:27Speaker 1: we learned to love in the High Republic. So like
- 50:33Speaker 1: I'm only really anticipating like what's gonna come next from
- 50:36Speaker 1: these guys, like you.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Know, yeah, So so just some fun facts as we
- 50:43Speaker 3: close out, guys. So, this book actually had a trailer
- 50:51Speaker 3: which I did not know about, where they hired Mark
- 50:56Speaker 3: Hamill to uh speak as Luke Skywall. Like in the trailer,
- 51:02Speaker 3: he said, I have fought the worst of all wars
- 51:04Speaker 3: and witnessed the redemption of evil. I've seen balance restored
- 51:08Speaker 3: to the forest, but order can turn to chaos as
- 51:11Speaker 3: it did when I was born. Now, with my loved
- 51:14Speaker 3: ones and my loyal allies, I face a new challenge
- 51:17Speaker 3: unlike any before, and I'm not sure if this time
- 51:20Speaker 3: we can win. So that was like the trailer over
- 51:24Speaker 3: scenes from the original trilogy. And then Vector Prime did
- 51:30Speaker 3: spend time on the New York Times Bestsellers list and
- 51:33Speaker 3: spent a total of four weeks on it, and Chewbacca's
- 51:39Speaker 3: death was a huge controversial point amongst Star Wars fans
- 51:45Speaker 3: and in several like most memorable moments of the expanded Universe,
- 51:52Speaker 3: Chewbacca's death hits first on most of those lists.
- 51:56Speaker 2: So wow, well I'm even reading right here. Uh.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Savatore received death threats from some readers.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Uh.
- 52:06Speaker 1: In an interview with some of the New Jedi Or
- 52:08Speaker 1: series creators, UH, Sue Rastoni's, Shelley Shapiro and Lucy Wilson
- 52:16Speaker 1: expressed that Savator's treatment was one of their greatest regrets
- 52:20Speaker 1: from the series.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Uh.
- 52:25Speaker 1: He would go to send Salt Lake City Comic Con
- 52:30Speaker 1: uh despite some negative fans outcry Uh. So he and
- 52:36Speaker 1: just saying that most people for the for the for
- 52:39Speaker 1: the most part, enjoyed Vector Prime.
- 52:41Speaker 2: But yeah, like I it's it's disgusting to think like this.
- 52:47Speaker 1: But unfortunately, just in the day and age that we
- 52:49Speaker 1: are in, Like, could you imagine if they did that
- 52:54Speaker 1: in canon like today? Mm hmm, there would be so
- 53:00Speaker 1: much outrage. Yeah, I mean, I'm look.
- 53:08Speaker 3: At people get death threats now for can't look.
- 53:12Speaker 2: At forst Awakens what they did with with Han Solo
- 53:15Speaker 2: and people were the same exact way, even though people
- 53:19Speaker 2: Harrison Ford does not want to be in Star Wars.
- 53:21Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I don't know if that's a secret of anybody's,
- 53:26Speaker 2: but yeah.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Sorry, all right, so Clay, I think that's everything.
- 53:36Speaker 2: All right.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Well, guys, like we said, this is gonna be the
- 53:41Speaker 1: first of many to come. Since this is a nineteen
- 53:45Speaker 1: book series, we have sat down and said, hey, we're
- 53:50Speaker 1: doing this. So you guys, I'm not gonna go ahead
- 53:53Speaker 1: and set out a schedule now because we just got
- 53:59Speaker 1: finished saying on our our normal show that this year
- 54:03Speaker 1: is very, very busy, So this is dropping on August first,
- 54:11Speaker 1: I will say, we will try and make this a
- 54:13Speaker 1: monthly thing.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Yeah, there are.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Goal is to have one for you every first.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Yes, there may be an instance where you know, just
- 54:25Speaker 1: things come up and we have to you know, post
- 54:27Speaker 1: it like that next you know, a weekday or whatever.
- 54:34Speaker 1: But that is the plan for the next nineteen months,
- 54:39Speaker 1: where I guess that only eighteen we will be posting
- 54:43Speaker 1: one of these on Patreon, and I'm really excited for it.
- 54:49Speaker 1: This is going to be the first like legitimate, overarching series.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Of Star Wars books that I will be reading.
- 55:02Speaker 1: We had High Republic, but that was a total of
- 55:07Speaker 1: not counting the mangas.
- 55:11Speaker 2: What is it five, six, eleven, fifteen or sixteen?
- 55:26Speaker 3: You have ten adult books?
- 55:28Speaker 1: So dear Lord, okay, then yeah, like okay, so High
- 55:34Speaker 1: Republic wins.
- 55:35Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna put my foot in my mouth.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Uh yeah, okay, I say ten.
- 55:41Speaker 3: I was counting the audio dramas and I think I
- 55:44Speaker 3: actually counted one picture that it wasn't supposed.
- 55:48Speaker 2: To, but three.
- 55:51Speaker 1: I was gonna say, did you also count the anthology
- 55:54Speaker 1: The Light in Life?
- 55:56Speaker 2: Because I don't know if that's you know, but.
- 56:00Speaker 3: It's like nine books per so if you say eighteen
- 56:04Speaker 3: for adult and young adult.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but even so, like this this is going to
- 56:09Speaker 1: be technically now my second series of books within the
- 56:15Speaker 1: Star Wars series, and it's legends, so that I think
- 56:20Speaker 1: it's going to be even more fun seeing things that
- 56:24Speaker 1: you know, people have loved for many, many years, and
- 56:28Speaker 1: I'm going to be experiencing for the very first time.
- 56:32Speaker 2: I will be genuinely surprised.
- 56:36Speaker 1: If I have another moment like I did realizing that
- 56:41Speaker 1: Throng was actually a good character.
- 56:45Speaker 2: Because I like I.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I just don't know, you know, I don't have any
- 56:50Speaker 1: animosity coming into this, so I don't know if anything
- 56:53Speaker 1: will be like able to flip me on any character.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Again.
- 57:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna just reiterate it for the fifth freaking time
- 57:03Speaker 1: writing on the wall for Anakin character. Anakin's character. We'll
- 57:09Speaker 1: see how that happens or how that goes.
- 57:13Speaker 3: Uh.
- 57:14Speaker 2: But yeah, with that, guys, thank you so much for
- 57:17Speaker 2: being here. Katie, you want to close us out?
- 57:22Speaker 3: Yeah, guys, Oh gosh, what's my otro?
- 57:28Speaker 2: It's late guys, by the way, it is.
- 57:30Speaker 3: It's past my bedtime. So guys, I want to thank
- 57:34Speaker 3: each and every one of you guys for being here,
- 57:36Speaker 3: thanks for supporting us on Patreon, and with that, I
- 57:39Speaker 3: want to wish ever in a great day or night,
- 57:41Speaker 3: whatever it's, whatever time of day you were listening or
- 57:44Speaker 3: potentially watching. I don't know if Clay's gonna put the
- 57:46Speaker 3: video up or not. And thanks for being here. May
- 57:49Speaker 3: the forced to be with you. Bye guys,
