- 0:51Speaker 1: Chris, welcome in.
- 0:52Speaker 2: We made it week one.
- 0:53Speaker 1: How are you? I am doing good, and like you
- 0:57Speaker 1: and like everybody, I'm just excited to have some football.
- 1:00Speaker 1: We had, I don't know if it was an appetizer
- 1:04Speaker 1: last week. It's just maybe some stale chips and salsa
- 1:08Speaker 1: that was a little bit left over. There's a little bit,
- 1:12Speaker 1: but I'm ready for a big week this week in
- 1:15Speaker 1: college football.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Chris, before we get to the games, we have to
- 1:17Speaker 2: discuss the SEC as they will go to court on Thursday.
- 1:22Speaker 2: over this NFL player rolling. It looks like the courts
- 1:26Speaker 2: and the judges have said, no, you've got to let
- 1:27Speaker 2: them play. There's real discussion, or at least it looks like,
- 1:31Speaker 2: on what to do with LSU. Lane Kiffin has said
- 1:34Speaker 2: earlier today his player leadership committee, which I didn't know
- 1:37Speaker 2: that they had these, gave him their blessing to bring
- 1:40Speaker 2: in players with NFL experience. Quote, everyone was emphatic that
- 1:44Speaker 2: if they can help us win, let's bring them on. LSU,
- 1:48Speaker 2: why are they dying on this hill, Chris?
- 1:53Speaker 1: There's a few theories. One of them, it's coming from
- 1:55Speaker 1: the governor, who's trying to push the big Trump guy.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And he's trying to push Trump's agenda of save the
- 2:03Speaker 1: College Sports Act. That's great chaos. We're all for it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So he sees that as a window. How much is
- 2:12Speaker 1: there to that? I think there's something to it. Two,
- 2:16Speaker 1: I mean, when does Lane not like the spotlight on him?
- 2:20Speaker 1: I mean, he's about, look at me. You know, look,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I think in the end, it's going to be very interesting.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to give legal renderings of what might
- 2:37Speaker 1: or might not happen. But people that I do talk
- 2:42Speaker 1: to in that profession believe that they're going to rule
- 2:46Speaker 1: against the SEC on this. Then it's going to get interesting.
- 2:51Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of fodder and talk. I
- 2:55Speaker 1: know a reporter reported anonymously, of course, isn't it always
- 3:00Speaker 1: that we'll, we'll find somebody else. I mean, they're not
- 3:03Speaker 1: going to kick LSU out of the SEC. LSU is
- 3:05Speaker 1: not going anywhere. They're not going to be able to,
- 3:09Speaker 1: even if they wanted to pull, that's just kind of posturing.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And it's just, to me, it's, I think it's a,
- 3:18Speaker 1: it's a hypocritical and all the way around. I mean, it's,
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's like in Louisiana, they're all for this, it's for LSU,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and I say, well, let's say Lane Kiffin had taken
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Florida job and he was doing all this. You'd
- 3:31Speaker 1: like that, and then there's Stone Silence, of course. You'd
- 3:34Speaker 1: hate it. And Florida fans who are now hating it
- 3:37Speaker 1: would love it. The bottom line is, I think you
- 3:41Speaker 1: have to look at, is this the right thing to do?
- 3:45Speaker 1: And the answer is no. I think you've probably explained
- 3:49Speaker 1: to your audience, knowing you, that this is unique circumstance.
- 3:53Speaker 1: These players forget about the, you know, two or three
- 3:57Speaker 1: that LSU might be interested in. There are 33 players
- 4:00Speaker 1: that were told their eligibility was up only to declare
- 4:04Speaker 1: for the draft. And, uh, only to, and even the
- 4:07Speaker 1: NBA guys sound the same thing, only be told that
- 4:10Speaker 1: the new rule took place after they decided that they
- 4:13Speaker 1: were told that they had no eligibility left. So this
- 4:16Speaker 1: is not an ongoing thing. This is a one-year thing. And, and,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Like I have said before, you look at the lawsuit,
- 4:25Speaker 1: the lawsuit is not by, get this today, why is
- 4:30Speaker 1: LSU suing them? LSU has nothing to do with this.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It's the 33 or so players that are suing, and
- 4:37Speaker 1: I don't know, a lot of lawyers think that they've
- 4:41Speaker 1: got every right, and if you think about it from
- 4:45Speaker 1: a logical standpoint, they do. Now, the question is, just
- 4:49Speaker 1: because they have a right to come back and play,
- 4:54Speaker 1: does the SEC or the Big Ten or the Big
- 4:58Speaker 1: 12 or the ACC at all have the right to say,
- 5:02Speaker 1: as a conference, we don't want our institutions to go
- 5:05Speaker 1: after a player that has been in the NFL for
- 5:10Speaker 1: any period of time or declared for the draft for
- 5:13Speaker 1: the NBA or whatever. In the end, the SEC has
- 5:16Speaker 1: already come out and said, we don't want that. And
- 5:18Speaker 1: We voted 16-0 that you're not going to do that. And,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know, it looks like, well, the lawsuit is, I mean,
- 5:30Speaker 1: they're going to sue that. Hey, you're denying us a
- 5:33Speaker 1: chance to go play at that school or the Big
- 5:36Speaker 1: Ten or wherever, and we're going to sue you. I
- 5:39Speaker 1: don't know where it's going to end up legally. I
- 5:41Speaker 1: think we're not going to get it resolved on Thursday,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but we're going to at least know. by Thursday, whether
- 5:50Speaker 1: they're going to be active for the ones that are
- 5:53Speaker 1: involved at LSU or any other school, whether they're going
- 5:56Speaker 1: to be active this week or not, but I expect
- 5:58Speaker 1: that this is going to go into some appeals process. Um,
- 6:03Speaker 1: don't you on, on most things do. I don't know.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, I can have an opinion on, no, I
- 6:10Speaker 1: don't like anything that's gone on in college athletics for
- 6:14Speaker 1: years and years. Um, I don't like it, and I
- 6:18Speaker 1: don't like what LSU's doing. I don't like their stance.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I only think they're going to create enemies within the SEC.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But that's what Lane does. And this governor has, again,
- 6:33Speaker 1: got his own agenda, and I think LSU's just kind
- 6:36Speaker 1: of caught him. You don't hear Wade Ruth, the president
- 6:39Speaker 1: of LSU, saying to Pete, he can't. The governor's going
- 6:43Speaker 1: to tell him. He's going to do what the blank
- 6:45Speaker 1: I tell you to do because that's how he got
- 6:47Speaker 1: the job. And the governor appointed the board. So I
- 6:51Speaker 1: hope that gives a little bit of understanding to your audience.
- 6:54Speaker 1: This is the governor trying to push his agenda up
- 6:58Speaker 1: the national ladder. Maybe he can take a trip to Greenland,
- 7:03Speaker 1: which is also part of his new assignment. And maybe
- 7:06Speaker 1: he'll get out of this. I doubt it. And then
- 7:09Speaker 1: you got Lane. You know, when does Lane not like
- 7:12Speaker 1: chaos or attention? That's my best explanation of where we are.
- 7:18Speaker 1: The other stuff, I don't know. We'll see where it
- 7:20Speaker 1: plays out.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know if we've ever seen a governor
- 7:24Speaker 2: so involved in any state. Maybe I'm missing one. In
- 7:27Speaker 2: the state of their college athletics inside their state like
- 7:30Speaker 2: this one is.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Well, let me take you back to one. This is
- 7:35Speaker 1: a great story. The great Huey P. Long, who many
- 7:38Speaker 1: stories and movies have been written about, was once... as
- 7:43Speaker 1: the governor, he would lead the band on the tiger stadium.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And what do you call the person up front? That's the,
- 7:51Speaker 1: that's the, with the little baton thing, whatever you got. Yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 1: He did that. And he wants, wanted to build a
- 8:01Speaker 1: huge stadium called tiger stadium. And the state legislator said, no. So,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know what he did? You know what he didn't think?
- 8:09Speaker 1: He said, I need the funding to build dormitories for
- 8:16Speaker 1: ROTC athletes, for ROTC students. And guess where those dorms
- 8:22Speaker 1: were located?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Tiger Stadium.
- 8:24Speaker 1: In the stadium. That's how Tiger Stadium was initially built.
- 8:28Speaker 1: This was like the 30,000 view. This was before money
- 8:32Speaker 1: was spent. So I would say UEP Long was probably
- 8:35Speaker 1: more involved. But in the modern era, I know your point.
- 8:38Speaker 1: He's very, very involved. There's no question about it.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Speaking of involvement, we're talking with Chris Landry, college football
- 8:44Speaker 2: and the NFL. Go to LandryFootball.com. Chris, let's get a
- 8:47Speaker 2: game in, then we'll hit the games all the way
- 8:49Speaker 2: through the second segment. Auburn versus Baylor in Atlanta coming
- 8:53Speaker 2: up this weekend. 2.30 Central kick on ABC. Tigers are
- 8:56Speaker 2: a touchdown and a hook favorite. Not asking you for
- 8:59Speaker 2: gaming advice, but for the game itself. Alex Golish, game
- 9:02Speaker 2: number one. He's got a really good quarterback. A lot
- 9:05Speaker 2: of players in from South Florida. Baylor, Dave Aranda, DJ Lagway,
- 9:11Speaker 2: his first trip back to the SEC or against an
- 9:15Speaker 2: SEC foe. Can Baylor keep this close? Can they upset
- 9:18Speaker 2: Auburn this weekend?
- 9:19Speaker 1: I think they can keep it close. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I think it'd be an upset. You know, it's just
- 9:23Speaker 1: so much unknown with these new coaches in these places.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I do like Auburn in the game. I think they've
- 9:29Speaker 1: got a little bit more balance. I do think there's
- 9:31Speaker 1: some talent on Auburn, Steve, more than Baylor. And I
- 9:35Speaker 1: do like their chances at home. I really do. do
- 9:38Speaker 1: like this game as this game in Ole Miss Louisville
- 9:43Speaker 1: or I mean to me that's the most intriguing where
- 9:47Speaker 1: there's potentially good matchup I could see both teams winning
- 9:51Speaker 1: but I definitely like Auburn's chances here let's.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Take a time out we come back we'll visit with
- 9:56Speaker 2: Chris we'll get his take on several of these games
- 9:58Speaker 2: Ole Miss versus Louisville Mississippi State, what to expect, and
