Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: God bless football, Mikey. God bless football, Taylor.
- 0:16Speaker 2: God bless football, Stu.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Thank you, Taylor. Todd McShay in about 15, 20 minutes here.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Taylor has a game. You have a question for us
- 0:22Speaker 3: about teams that lied to us in week one.
- 0:25Speaker 1: How do you want to play this game, Taylor?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so the question that I have for you guys is,
- 0:30Speaker 2: What team in the NFL did week one lie the
- 0:34Speaker 2: most about? And then who did week one tell the
- 0:36Speaker 2: most truth about?
- 0:39Speaker 1: Mikey, you have any candidates here? Okay, so yeah, I'll start.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Week one told us the truth about the LA Chargers.
- 0:47Speaker 4: They are not good. Justin Herbert is your favorite NFL analyst,
- 0:53Speaker 4: favorite quarterback, but he is not a good player. He's
- 0:58Speaker 4: just He might look the part, but that team is
- 1:02Speaker 4: in bad shape. And you look at their upcoming schedule,
- 1:06Speaker 4: losing at home to the Cardinals and Raiders before the
- 1:09Speaker 4: gauntlet they're about to go through. This season could be
- 1:14Speaker 4: over really quick for that team.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Mikey, I was actually power ranking quarterbacks in the AFC West.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Why? Taylor's tears on a Tuesday.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I was power ranking quarterbacks in the AFC West and
- 1:27Speaker 2: Justin Herbert out of the four teams in the AFC
- 1:29Speaker 2: West was my fifth best quarterback in that division.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Which backup was better?
- 1:33Speaker 5: Mendoza?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Mendoza.
- 1:35Speaker 2: The unknown of Mendoza is better than the known of
- 1:38Speaker 2: Justin Herbert.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Wait, so you now have Kirk Cousins and Mendoza ahead
- 1:43Speaker 3: of Justin Herbert?
- 1:44Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So I had Patrick Mahomes, one.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Bo Nix, two.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Cousins, three. Mendoza, four. Justin Herbert, five.
- 1:55Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I have a team that I feel like told us
- 1:57Speaker 3: the truth in week one. Am I playing the game correctly?
- 2:00Speaker 1: No, that's what I just did. Okay, good.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I just wanted to make sure. It's a confusing game.
- 2:04Speaker 3: The Dolphins told the truth in week one. They told
- 2:06Speaker 3: us they were bad. And in week two, they proved it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: They are really bad.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Stu Yachts, in Miami, what I think we have developing,
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think Jeff Halfley is having his Cam Cameron season.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Really, is 1-15, yeah?
- 2:22Speaker 2: Well, first off, I think they're worse than 1-15. I
- 2:24Speaker 2: think this team has 0-17 potential.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And I think this has one-and-done season potential for Jeff
- 2:30Speaker 2: Halfley because I'm watching the Dolphins yesterday. When the punter
- 2:34Speaker 2: drops the ball and just kind of summarizes the Dolphins' season,
- 2:38Speaker 2: what you expect the Dolphins' season to be in 2026,
- 2:41Speaker 2: I'm looking at Jeff Halfley on the sideline differently now,
- 2:44Speaker 2: and I'm like, man, this guy, we got to get
- 2:46Speaker 2: this guy stink out of Miami.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Ha, ha, ha, ha. I don't think it's one season
- 2:50Speaker 1: and done for Halfley, I think. Do you, Mikey?
- 2:52Speaker 2: If he goes 0-17, you're bringing that guy back?
- 2:55Speaker 3: If he goes 0-17, he has done his job, which
- 2:57Speaker 3: is tank to get arch.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I mean, that's what they brought him in here to do.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I mean, I have to feel like Stephen Ross would be,
- 3:08Speaker 3: he'd be more excited at 0-17 than he would be at,
- 3:11Speaker 3: I don't know, 8-9.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I mean, why wouldn't you?
- 3:13Speaker 3: If you're going to be bad, be really, really bad.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And they're going to be historically bad.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I like it.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But you've seen some coaches in the NFL be as
- 3:21Speaker 2: bad as any coaches can be in the NFL. Even
- 3:24Speaker 2: those bad coaches, when they're trying to lose all their games,
- 3:28Speaker 2: stumble into the occasional win. And I'm looking at this
- 3:32Speaker 2: Dolphins team, and I don't see any wins coming for them.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Really?
- 3:36Speaker 3: Not even maybe the Jets at home or something like that?
- 3:40Speaker 2: I don't think this team could stumble into a win.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But they're not trying to. So, again, I mean, Halfley
- 3:46Speaker 1: in Steven Ross's mind might be the coach of the year.
- 3:51Speaker 1: it's impossible if he if.
- 3:53Speaker 3: We just had one vote and steven ross was the
- 3:55Speaker 3: only one voting uh he might vote halfway go to
- 3:58Speaker 3: the year all right mikey do you have another team.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah i think there was a big lie told in
- 4:05Speaker 4: week one about the denver broncos i think it was
- 4:08Speaker 4: a i think it was a bad loss for them
- 4:11Speaker 4: i think they looked a lot worse than they are
- 4:14Speaker 4: I think they came out against a good Jacksonville team.
- 4:16Speaker 4: The defense showed up the way they were supposed to.
- 4:19Speaker 4: The offense did what they do. I think week one
- 4:22Speaker 4: lied to us about the Denver Broncos.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Mikey, the biggest question with the Denver Broncos, it felt
- 4:27Speaker 2: like why did you acquire Jalen Waddell if you didn't
- 4:31Speaker 2: really have a plan to use Jalen Waddell? In that
- 4:34Speaker 2: opening game against Kansas City, he gets three targets, only
- 4:37Speaker 2: one catch, two yards. He does have a drop that
- 4:40Speaker 2: would have been a first down and potentially a big play.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It would have been a touchdown, Taylor.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and there were some concerns there where you're like,
- 4:47Speaker 2: Sean Payton's such a great offensive mind. Davis Webb at
- 4:50Speaker 2: offensive coordinator should figure out a way to get Waddle
- 4:52Speaker 2: more involved. And then week two against the Jaguars, eight catches,
- 4:57Speaker 2: 10 targets, 138 yards. And it's like, okay, that's why
- 5:01Speaker 2: they went out and got him.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I have a team that I think we all thought
- 5:04Speaker 3: was going to be good. And after the first week,
- 5:06Speaker 3: Mikey asked an interesting question about Texan fans. Should they
- 5:09Speaker 3: be happy with that result against Buffalo or upset? And
- 5:12Speaker 3: we all said happy because, you know, the defense is
- 5:14Speaker 3: going to be good.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But C.J.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Schrad was your concern coming into the season. He played
- 5:18Speaker 3: well in that game. The Texans might not be that good, guys.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Like we thought they were good even after starting 0-1.
- 5:25Speaker 3: And they lost yesterday. And it was embarrassing.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And C.J.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Schrad was not great. And maybe the Texans just aren't
- 5:31Speaker 3: as good as we thought they were going to be.
- 5:32Speaker 1: How about that?
- 5:36Speaker 4: I don't disagree with you. I mean, they put up
- 5:40Speaker 4: no fight on the offensive side of the ball against
- 5:43Speaker 4: a Cincinnati Bengals team that, yes, their defense did get
- 5:46Speaker 4: better year to year, but it's still not a great defense. And,
- 5:51Speaker 4: I mean, defensively, you gave up 30 points again.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So why I wouldn't be too concerned with the Houston
- 5:58Speaker 2: Texans yet is just because that AFC South is– very bad.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Like they are one in seven combined right now where
- 6:07Speaker 2: the Jaguars are in first place at one and one
- 6:09Speaker 2: and everybody else is sitting at Owen too, where if,
- 6:12Speaker 2: if you're the Texans, I think the, the dream already
- 6:15Speaker 2: going into week three, which is kind of crazy to
- 6:17Speaker 2: say of being a wildcard team is slowly slipping away.
- 6:21Speaker 2: When you're looking at other teams that you would consider
- 6:24Speaker 2: to be contenders in the AFC, I think that's kind
- 6:27Speaker 2: of slipping away and you kind of just have to
- 6:29Speaker 2: shift your attention to, we have to win the AFC South, right?
- 6:33Speaker 1: How about the Raiders?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Did they lie to us in any sort of way?
- 6:37Speaker 3: They're better than we thought, right? Although, Mike, you thought
- 6:39Speaker 3: they were going to be pretty good coming into the season,
- 6:40Speaker 3: I think.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yes? I thought they were going to be better.
- 6:44Speaker 4: They're 2-0, guys. I didn't think they were going to
- 6:45Speaker 4: be 2-0. I mean, you beat Miami and everybody goes, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 4: that's cool.
- 6:50Speaker 1: No, but that's what I'm saying. After week one, it
- 6:52Speaker 1: was like, hey, they beat the Dolphins. They're not going
- 6:53Speaker 1: to win another game. And they went out and won
- 6:55Speaker 1: another game, you know?
- 6:56Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 4: As bad as the Chargers have been, you still got
- 7:01Speaker 4: to beat them. And the Raiders went to LA and
- 7:04Speaker 4: they did just that.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So Stu, my nominee for a team that I think
- 7:09Speaker 2: week one told the truth to us about.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 2: The Kansas city chiefs, the Kansas city chiefs.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think they lied to us. No, I think they
- 7:17Speaker 1: lied to us in week one. No, no, no.
- 7:18Speaker 3: We had questions as to whether they were back even
- 7:21Speaker 3: after winning their first game of the season.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Now they're fucking back.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I mean, the last four times the chief started to
- 7:29Speaker 2: an O right. They've made it to the super bowl
- 7:32Speaker 2: every time. 2024, 2022, 2020, and 2019. Yes. And you're
- 7:37Speaker 2: watching Patrick Mahomes, where there are some concerns with him
- 7:41Speaker 2: coming back from an ACL injury. His ability to connect
- 7:44Speaker 2: on the deep ball, and all of a sudden, Travis Kelsey.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Travis Kelsey has turned the clock back this season like
- 7:50Speaker 2: five years.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yes. How'd you feel about Taylor pointing to a ring saying,
- 7:53Speaker 1: that's my husband? What a moment. Seriously, what a great moment. But, Mikey,
- 7:58Speaker 1: isn't it fair?
- 7:59Speaker 3: Even after beating Denver, we still have questions about Mahomes
- 8:02Speaker 3: and is he all the way back?
- 8:04Speaker 1: And now we have no more questions. He's back. He
- 8:09Speaker 1: did it with his arm.
- 8:10Speaker 4: He did it with his legs. Travis Kelsey back in
- 8:13Speaker 4: the offense. And then you still got Xavier Worthy. You
- 8:16Speaker 4: still got Rasheed Rice and Walker.
- 8:20Speaker 3: That's the difference on the team. For two weeks, that's
- 8:22Speaker 3: been the big difference for this team. They have a
- 8:23Speaker 3: running back who's great.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know what Spags is going to do defensively.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And I'm watching that game, and it's only week two.
- 8:30Speaker 2: But my only thought when I'm watching the Chiefs finish
- 8:33Speaker 2: that game in overtime yesterday when Shane Steichen gives them
- 8:35Speaker 2: the ball back. And if you're trying to win a game,
- 8:38Speaker 2: I'll tell you right now, the quickest way to lose
- 8:40Speaker 2: that game is giving the ball back to Patrick Mahomes
- 8:43Speaker 2: in any situation. But after week two, I'm watching that game,
- 8:46Speaker 2: and I'm like, man, we could just skip ahead right now.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Bill's Chiefs AFC Championship.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Going to be awesome. Wait, you're taking the Ravens out
- 8:56Speaker 3: of it already? They lost yesterday.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Wow, that was a bad one.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess if there's a... The Ravens, you just
- 9:02Speaker 2: want to see more consistency with that team. If there's
- 9:04Speaker 2: a team that's moving up to that third spot in
- 9:07Speaker 2: the AFC power rankings right now, and where week one
- 9:10Speaker 2: might have told the truth, it might be the Cincinnati
- 9:13Speaker 2: Bengals that they've finally given Joe Burrow a defense with
- 9:16Speaker 2: what they were able to do to that Texans offense
- 9:18Speaker 2: to keep them in check where CJ Stroud throws for
- 9:20Speaker 2: a ton of yards, but it was kind of like
- 9:22Speaker 2: a bend but don't break defensive approach from that Bengals defense.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, they're going to be good if they continue to
- 9:28Speaker 3: get that kind of defense with Joe Burrow and if
- 9:30Speaker 3: he stays healthy. Do we feel like Jacksonville lied to
- 9:32Speaker 3: us in week one or they've been lying to us
- 9:34Speaker 3: for a decade?
- 9:36Speaker 4: No, I think Jacksonville is who we thought they were.
- 9:39Speaker 4: They're good. They're not great. They're not bad.
- 9:42Speaker 1: They're good.
- 9:43Speaker 4: They're going to beat up teams in that AFC South.
- 9:46Speaker 4: And when they run into a team like the Broncos,
- 9:49Speaker 4: who we think is going to be good, they're going
- 9:50Speaker 4: to struggle.
- 9:51Speaker 5: And it was a close game.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It was a close game. Yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah so there's a team that i think won in
- 9:57Speaker 2: week one but their performance from week one still told
- 10:01Speaker 2: us the truth for what they were going to be
- 10:03Speaker 2: this season because they got embarrassed yesterday by the new
- 10:06Speaker 2: england patriots the pittsburgh steelers oh yeah the bad i'm
- 10:10Speaker 2: watching this game Why did Aaron Rodgers come back?
- 10:14Speaker 1: Why does he put himself through this?
- 10:17Speaker 2: Because maybe I'm forgetting, but I don't remember ever watching
- 10:21Speaker 2: Tom Brady at the end and thinking like, man, this
- 10:24Speaker 2: guy looks old. Where Aaron Rodgers is 42, he somehow
- 10:27Speaker 2: looks 62 in the pocket. And you're watching the Steelers
- 10:32Speaker 2: offense with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. There is zero path
- 10:36Speaker 2: for them to have an above average offense with this quarterback.
- 10:40Speaker 3: That's because at the end, Tom Brady was still hoisting
- 10:43Speaker 3: Lombardi trophies.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I mean, two of 12 on third down.
- 10:49Speaker 1: But Mikey, I do watch Aaron and I'm like, why?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Why are you doing?
- 10:53Speaker 3: You're getting sandwiched by two Patriots.
- 10:55Speaker 4: I was going to say there was a moment just
- 10:58Speaker 4: before he got hit in the back where he's like,
- 11:01Speaker 4: this is why I'm out here.
- 11:02Speaker 5: This is awesome.
- 11:03Speaker 4: I'm about to pick up this third down. And then
- 11:06Speaker 4: he just got hit so hard in the back. And
- 11:09Speaker 4: he probably thought, this is why I should have stayed retired.
- 11:13Speaker 2: DK Metcalf has to be looking at this trade going
- 11:16Speaker 2: from Seattle to Pittsburgh as like one of the worst
- 11:19Speaker 2: decisions he's ever made in his life, right? Where Seattle,
- 11:22Speaker 2: all of a sudden, Jackson Smith and Jigba has probably
- 11:27Speaker 2: entered the conversation of being the best. Well, he was
- 11:29Speaker 2: the offensive player of the year last year. But I
- 11:31Speaker 2: think it's a conversation right now Game for your life
- 11:34Speaker 2: at wide receiver, who you want, Jackson Smith and Jigba
- 11:36Speaker 2: or Jamar Chase?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I don't know if you could choose wrong.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Listen, after that week, Jamar Chase had one of the
- 11:45Speaker 4: best catches we've ever seen.
- 11:47Speaker 1: He did.
- 11:47Speaker 4: JSN had an 82-yard touchdown where nobody was near him.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And that's not to take anything away from JSN. He's still, like,
- 11:54Speaker 4: he had a good game. But Jamar Chase reminded us
- 11:58Speaker 4: that if you put the ball near him, he can
- 12:01Speaker 4: do things that, Others can't.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah, but JSN is doing something that no one else
- 12:05Speaker 3: has ever been able to do.
- 12:07Speaker 1: He is making Drew Locke look like a great quarterback.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Who's handing him four years, 200 million next year?
- 12:15Speaker 1: The Jets.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Jets.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I do think there's an element there with Jamar Chase
- 12:20Speaker 2: where you look at Jamar Chase play at wide receiver
- 12:23Speaker 2: and you're like, he's a more natural wide receiver one. But, Mikey,
- 12:27Speaker 2: I don't think you could just say, like, there was
- 12:29Speaker 2: nobody around JSN. There's a reason why nobody's around JSN,
- 12:33Speaker 2: and it's because he is routing people up.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yes. The Cardinals lie to us now.
- 12:39Speaker 6: No.
- 12:40Speaker 4: No, I think– I mean, they put up a fight
- 12:44Speaker 4: for half of that game, and then it was just like, oh, okay,
- 12:47Speaker 4: this is the defending champion, and they're going to just
- 12:49Speaker 4: run away with it. But for six quarters, the Cardinals
- 12:52Speaker 4: look like a pretty good football team.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yep.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Nine carries, 29 yards is exactly why you don't take
- 12:57Speaker 3: a running back that high in the draft.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Anyway, go ahead, Taylor.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I think the truth from that game was that Seattle
- 13:03Speaker 2: is still the NFC team you'd least want to play.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Yeah. That is. Not the Rams.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Hmm. I'm not too sure the Rams are going to
- 13:14Speaker 2: get past the Giants.
- 13:15Speaker 4: We've got to see what happens tonight. We've got to
- 13:17Speaker 4: see if we got lied to in Australia.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Well, that's convenient. You get to see what happens.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Lied to spinning the other way.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I know, but the point of the question was to
- 13:23Speaker 3: ask you before tonight, before they go to 0-2.
- 13:26Speaker 1: What if they come out and blow out the Giants tonight?
- 13:28Speaker 1: They're back.
- 13:30Speaker 2: So the reason why I would still lean Seattle is–
- 13:33Speaker 2: the first two weeks against the Patriots and the Cardinals,
- 13:36Speaker 2: it feels like this Seattle team with Mike McDonald has
- 13:38Speaker 2: kind of proven that they're quarterback proof. Doesn't matter who
- 13:42Speaker 2: you put back there. This defense is going to find
- 13:44Speaker 2: ways to win games. And JSN is going to do
- 13:47Speaker 2: more than enough to try to carry an offense.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You think Sam Darnold enjoyed that yesterday? I tell you,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I ask you guys that question all the time.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Sam Darnold got paid.
- 13:55Speaker 1: He's fine. No, I know.
- 13:56Speaker 3: But he doesn't like to hear that they're quarterback proof,
- 13:59Speaker 3: meaning any quarterback could win in that system with that
- 14:01Speaker 3: football team. That's not what Sam Darnold wants to hear.
- 14:05Speaker 3: But yet he's going to hear it because Drew Locke
- 14:07Speaker 3: looked great.
- 14:07Speaker 1: He did. Yeah, Taylor.
- 14:09Speaker 2: The other take that I had coming off of Sunday,
- 14:12Speaker 2: I was full of takes yesterday.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Of course.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And I've been workshopping this one. And it's tough because
- 14:18Speaker 2: Jim Harbaugh came out before the season and said, Justin
- 14:22Speaker 2: Herbert will go down as the greatest quarterback ever. And
- 14:27Speaker 2: you're watching the first two games and you're like, I
- 14:29Speaker 2: don't know what Jim Harbaugh is saying. And this would
- 14:32Speaker 2: be very quick for Jim Harbaugh to come off that take.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You're looking at their upcoming schedule. It's a gauntlet. There's
- 14:37Speaker 2: a chance that this Chargers team keeps sliding and sliding
- 14:40Speaker 2: further back. Maybe you just have to look at yourself
- 14:43Speaker 2: in the mirror and say, Justin Herbert's not the quarterback.
- 14:45Speaker 2: That we think he is. And what team right now
- 14:48Speaker 2: has proven that they're a contender, but there's still questions
- 14:51Speaker 2: around their quarterback situation? The quarterback whisperer in Minnesota.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 2: What if you're Kevin O'Connell and you say, look at
- 15:00Speaker 2: what I'm doing with Carson Wentz. You go to your
- 15:01Speaker 2: manager and say, look what I did with Sam Darnold.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Look what I did with Carson Wentz. Look what I
- 15:05Speaker 2: could do with the quarterback that Dan Arlovsky is promising
- 15:08Speaker 2: me is the greatest quarterback that has ever played this position.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ha ha ha ha.
- 15:14Speaker 2: You call up an LA team that's desperate and realizes
- 15:17Speaker 2: they're quickly falling out of contention, and you try to
- 15:20Speaker 2: get Justin Herbert to Minnesota to pair him with Justin Jefferson.
- 15:23Speaker 2: All of a sudden, I could talk myself back into
- 15:25Speaker 2: Justin Herbert.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Could you?
- 15:27Speaker 3: In a different situation. With Kevin O'Connell. With Kevin O'Connell.
- 15:31Speaker 1: With Kevin O'Connell.
- 15:32Speaker 5: The quarterback whisperer.
- 15:33Speaker 4: The man who took the team that everybody was, especially
- 15:37Speaker 4: you two, oh, Ben Johnson this, Ben Johnson's that. Little
- 15:41Speaker 4: Rain and Ben Johnson's we're going to break the scoring
- 15:44Speaker 4: record goes right out the window. Kevin O'Connell goes, don't worry, guys.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Give me Carson Wentz. I'll take care of this.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Right.
- 15:50Speaker 1: But I could see Justin Herbert thriving elsewhere as well,
- 15:53Speaker 1: like in Atlanta. Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I think there is some truth to the situation where
- 15:59Speaker 2: I don't want to make it sound like I'm coming
- 16:01Speaker 2: out and doing the thing that analysts do on Mondays
- 16:05Speaker 2: where they come out and make excuses for Justin Herbert.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I do think there is some truth there where it
- 16:11Speaker 2: is very hard to succeed in that building where 75%
- 16:15Speaker 2: of the crowd, no matter the circumstance, is rooting for
- 16:18Speaker 2: the other team.
- 16:21Speaker 3: He's out of excuses, though, man. He's got Mike McDaniel
- 16:23Speaker 3: as his offensive coordinator. He's out of excuses, man. The
- 16:26Speaker 3: guy's not very good.
- 16:27Speaker 5: He's got Adam Gase on the staff.
- 16:28Speaker 4: That's my retort.
- 16:30Speaker 3: So you're giving him a pass because of Gase? I mean,
- 16:35Speaker 3: Gase is still hanging around, huh?
- 16:38Speaker 4: That's a game coordinator for the Chargers.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You know what? You're right. I give Justin Herbert a pass.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Todd McShay next. Stu Gatz here.

- 18:32Speaker 1: How was your football weekend, Todd McShea?
- 18:34Speaker 3: You're driving the kids around all over town, and I'm
- 18:36Speaker 3: wondering how the football weekend was.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Were you able to watch it? Wow, what happened?
- 18:43Speaker 4: Your voice happened.
- 18:44Speaker 1: That's what happened. Let me start again, if you don't mind, please.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah, go ahead. All right. That was a
- 18:48Speaker 1: lot of phlegm. Save it, Taylor, for the pod. Keeping
- 18:50Speaker 1: it in. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
- 18:52Speaker 3: We are pleased to be joined by Todd McShea, The
- 18:55Speaker 3: McShea Show, wherever you get your podcasts, part of the
- 18:57Speaker 3: Ringer Podcast Network.
- 18:58Speaker 1: How was your football weekend? I'm asking because... It is tough.
- 19:02Speaker 3: You're in a tricky spot in terms of your kids
- 19:05Speaker 3: and their age and taking them to Little League games,
- 19:06Speaker 3: and you're driving all over town, and it's tough.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I've got this blended family. I've got a 10-year-old girl,
- 19:15Speaker 6: a 12-year-old boy. He just turned 12 this weekend.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Congratulations. Actually, technically today.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Happy birthday.
- 19:21Speaker 6: But we celebrated it all weekend as if a 12-year-old
- 19:24Speaker 6: birthday is the 21st.
- 19:25Speaker 5: And then I've got a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old.
- 19:32Speaker 6: Girl and boy, respectively. And so we've got field hockey
- 19:35Speaker 6: all week, right? High school field hockey. And it's like
- 19:38Speaker 6: Cape Cod on Thursday. Then we got Friday, we've got
- 19:42Speaker 6: a football game 45 minutes away. We got two boys
- 19:45Speaker 6: coming to sleep over because.
- 19:46Speaker 1: We got we got a birthday party.
- 19:49Speaker 6: By the way, you're welcome to sign Baker Mayfield.
- 19:53Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:53Speaker 6: And we we've got we got a soccer game in Westport.
- 19:57Speaker 6: It's like an hour and a half away for 10,
- 19:58Speaker 6: 10 under soccer. Sunday, Tate gets to go to a
- 20:03Speaker 6: Patriots-Steelers game. I'm in a trampoline park, and I look up,
- 20:06Speaker 6: and it's Sunday afternoon. Everyone's bitching. No one's happy. And
- 20:11Speaker 6: you haven't watched football. Meanwhile, I'm sneaking in 40 minutes
- 20:15Speaker 6: here and there, talking to my notes pages for a
- 20:19Speaker 6: show that's midnight to 2 a.m.
- 20:21Speaker 5: I get three hours sleep. And it's backwards. Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 6: And I came on, and Mike's complaining that he saved
- 20:28Speaker 6: his family, and he's still in trouble.
- 20:31Speaker 5: And I'm like, get used to it. It doesn't get
- 20:33Speaker 5: any better.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Right. Well, you get used to it as well. It
- 20:35Speaker 1: seems like you haven't yet. Take your own advice there, Todd. Yeah,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you're right.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I'm still worked up.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I don't even know the details of Mikey A's story.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I'm not certain we should get to him now. I
- 20:45Speaker 3: just know that he saved his family, he saved their lives,
- 20:47Speaker 3: and they're still mad at him.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Well, what can you do? Anyway, what were your thoughts
- 20:53Speaker 1: here on LSU and Mississippi over the weekend? What a game.
- 20:55Speaker 1: It lived up to the hype, Todd. It was great.
- 20:58Speaker 5: It rarely does, right?
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 6: We've had this game circled going back to, what, January, right?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 5: And Lane's departure and Trinidad's like, thanks.
- 21:09Speaker 6: I was the 246th ranked quarterback in the transfer portal.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Thanks, Lane, for picking me. Thanks for developing me.
- 21:17Speaker 1: You're leaving.
- 21:18Speaker 5: I'm staying, you know?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 6: All the hype building up. And it actually looked like
- 21:23Speaker 6: maybe it wouldn't be that good of a game. I mean,
- 21:26Speaker 6: Ole Miss comes out and just everything's clicking. I loved
- 21:31Speaker 6: in the first half of that game watching Kiwan Lacy
- 21:35Speaker 6: and watching Trinidad Chambliss. And, like, you could see through
- 21:39Speaker 6: the helmet on camera, you know.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yes, yeah.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Like, men possessed. And then they pan over to Lane
- 21:47Speaker 5: on the sideline and the frustration, you know.
- 21:49Speaker 6: But then to see halftime adjustments come out the second
- 21:52Speaker 6: half and Sam Levitt, all of a sudden is making
- 21:54Speaker 6: plays and, and you're seeing LSU kind of just work
- 21:58Speaker 6: its way back in this game. And you wondered, did
- 22:01Speaker 6: Ole Miss like emotionally leave it all out there in
- 22:03Speaker 6: the first half and didn't have enough in the tank
- 22:05Speaker 6: for the second half.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Chambliss like, and.
- 22:09Speaker 6: I try to keep college football from the NFL draft,
- 22:12Speaker 6: but I'm watching this.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 22:15Speaker 6: And, And you've got this class with Arch Manning in 6'5,
- 22:19Speaker 6: 230 pounds, and he looks like what you want at quarterback.
- 22:23Speaker 6: And yes, he's got the Manning name, but then that
- 22:25Speaker 6: second half against Ohio State, that looks like what an
- 22:29Speaker 6: NFL quarterback.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Does at the college level as he's preparing for the league.
- 22:33Speaker 6: Dante Moore is the best pure passer of this group,
- 22:36Speaker 6: and there's plenty of other problems at Oregon, the Oklahoma
- 22:39Speaker 6: State loss. He wasn't a major. I went back and
- 22:41Speaker 6: watched that tape. He for the most, outside of maybe
- 22:44Speaker 6: one throw, one decision. He was great in that game.
- 22:48Speaker 6: Darian Mensah setting the world on.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Fire at Miami.
- 22:52Speaker 6: You've got all these other quarterbacks that kind of look
- 22:55Speaker 6: the part. I mean, you go down, Lenora Sellers is
- 22:59Speaker 6: maybe the most physically gifted of all of them, but
- 23:01Speaker 6: continues to struggle. CJ Carr is like a little bit
- 23:07Speaker 6: shorter version of Tom Brady with like the understanding of
- 23:09Speaker 6: an offense, the precision and And then you got Chambliss
- 23:13Speaker 6: who's like sub six foot Ferris state division two. Yeah.
- 23:19Speaker 5: And he's the best of all of them.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It's crazy. Right? Yeah. I mean, if you say so,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you're the expert. Yes.
- 23:27Speaker 6: But I mean, he's, I don't think anyone can argue
- 23:29Speaker 6: in terms of tools combined with proven big game and
- 23:32Speaker 6: big moment and how he's played that he's been the best,
- 23:36Speaker 6: that he's the.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Best college football quarterback right now. But then I'm like,
- 23:40Speaker 5: how many times is this shit going to happen? Right.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Like he's kind of like the Steph Curry.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Remember like Davidson and he's too small and he was
- 23:49Speaker 6: lightly recruited.
- 23:50Speaker 5: And yeah, that is, Oh, it's a great, he's cute.
- 23:52Speaker 6: He's like a great college story, but he like, he's
- 23:55Speaker 6: not going to be. And now he's like arguably the
- 23:57Speaker 6: best shooter in the history of the NBA.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 6: And then, and you go back and you look at
- 24:02Speaker 6: the history of like, we did it with Russell Wilson.
- 24:05Speaker 6: We did it with Michael Vick in some ways and
- 24:07Speaker 6: Lamar Jackson in some ways. And some of these guys,
- 24:09Speaker 6: it's like, Well, it doesn't fit the prototype, but how
- 24:12Speaker 6: many times does the prototype have to get broken before
- 24:15Speaker 6: we start to realize like some dudes are just special.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 24:19Speaker 6: And so now like for me, it's like in this
- 24:22Speaker 6: class where there's, I've got 13 guys with first and
- 24:24Speaker 6: second round grades at the quarterback position, which is like
- 24:28Speaker 6: out of control. I did a mock draft last week
- 24:31Speaker 6: and I think I had nine quarterbacks going in the
- 24:33Speaker 6: top 13.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Wow. No, sorry. No, no.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Six in the top. six in the top nine. That's
- 24:38Speaker 5: what it was.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Um, and, but my jumping off point now.
- 24:44Speaker 6: For him is QB three, like find me, find me
- 24:48Speaker 6: three quarterbacks that are better prospects right now. And I
- 24:50Speaker 6: don't care about his height. So that's, that's, what's kind
- 24:53Speaker 6: of changing for me. We'll see how the season plays out.
- 24:56Speaker 6: It's a long season, but you've, you've got to go out,
- 24:59Speaker 6: play Chambliss in my opinion, to be that third quarterback.
- 25:03Speaker 1: And I'm not saying he's stuck at three.
- 25:05Speaker 6: I'm like, I'm leaving it wide open where maybe he's
- 25:08Speaker 6: QB1 by the end of it, and I won't shy.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Baker Mayfield was QB1, got in a lousy situation in Cleveland,
- 25:15Speaker 6: and now we've seen, you know, we saw for years
- 25:17Speaker 6: what he can do.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So I'm keeping this.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Thing wide open because I think all these quarterbacks deserve that.
- 25:23Speaker 5: There's a lot of ball to be played.
- 25:25Speaker 6: But my gosh, man, what Chambliss is doing and what
- 25:27Speaker 6: we're watching is extraordinary.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Yep, special. Go ahead, Taylor.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Todd, it feels like we've been waiting for Lenora Sellers
- 25:34Speaker 2: at South Carolina to put it all together. So my
- 25:36Speaker 2: question is, if you're the Miami Hurricanes and next year
- 25:40Speaker 2: starts and you can have either Kamario Taylor or Lenora
- 25:43Speaker 2: Sellers at quarterback, who do you take?
- 25:48Speaker 5: You're a real jerk.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yes, he is. He's putting you in such a bad spot.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It's a good question.
- 25:55Speaker 6: Honestly, I want to see Lenora there for the same
- 26:00Speaker 6: premise that you have.
- 26:03Speaker 5: He is that talented.
- 26:04Speaker 6: And coming into the year, I thought maybe QB2 behind
- 26:08Speaker 6: Dante Moore.
- 26:09Speaker 5: That was kind of how I viewed it. And I
- 26:11Speaker 5: wanted to see Arch have a.
- 26:12Speaker 6: Half like he did against Ohio State before elevating him.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Something's not clicking.
- 26:20Speaker 6: And I wanted to excuse it as the coordinator last year,
- 26:25Speaker 6: Mike Shula, and it just clearly wasn't meshing.
- 26:27Speaker 5: And now they bring in Kendall Bryles, and it's still not.
- 26:31Speaker 6: And I get it, like, Chambliss has a better supporting cast.
- 26:35Speaker 5: Arch certainly has a better supporting cast.
- 26:39Speaker 6: Julian Sayen has, you know, a lot of these guys
- 26:41Speaker 6: have better weapons to throw to. But he's got a
- 26:44Speaker 6: left tackle who's got a first-round grade by, like, National
- 26:47Speaker 6: Scouting Service coming into the year. And he's got a
- 26:50Speaker 6: wide receiver in Nick Harbour who's inconsistent but supremely talented.
- 26:54Speaker 6: It's not like they're void of talent at South Carolina.
- 26:58Speaker 1: So, I.
- 27:00Speaker 6: Personally, I'm dying to see Sellers find that right spot,
- 27:03Speaker 6: and it seems like Miami's become the new, for quarterbacks,
- 27:08Speaker 6: that safe harbor refugee camp where we're going to rebuild
- 27:12Speaker 6: you up and send you off to the NFL world.
- 27:15Speaker 6: It's kind of like Nick Saban became for all those coaches,
- 27:19Speaker 6: whether it was Lane Kiffin, Bill O'Brien, Sark, right? Like,
- 27:26Speaker 6: come in in this quote-unquote... assistant, whatever the, I forget
- 27:30Speaker 6: the name of it, basically assistant role.
- 27:35Speaker 5: And then we'll rehab you and.
- 27:37Speaker 6: Get you ready to go take a head coaching job, right?
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yes. It's kind of what Miami's become.
- 27:41Speaker 6: So I would love to see Sellers there, but if
- 27:44Speaker 6: I'm Cristobal and I'm looking at this thing and I'm
- 27:47Speaker 6: looking at what Camario Taylor's doing right now with Mississippi State,
- 27:52Speaker 6: that dude's I didn't know that I could look at
- 27:56Speaker 6: another quarterback and be like, yeah, he's clearly more talented
- 27:59Speaker 6: than Lenore Sellers. But if I'm the GM at Miami,
- 28:05Speaker 6: I'm probably taking Kamario Taylor. But I really want to,
- 28:09Speaker 6: if it's not Miami, I'm dying to see Sellers. Sellers
- 28:12Speaker 6: needs to come back unless something drastically changes between now
- 28:15Speaker 6: and the end of the season. And Sellers needs a different,
- 28:19Speaker 6: new scenery, let's say.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Just going back to Trinidad for a second.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Had he gone to the NFL last year, where do
- 28:25Speaker 3: you think he would have been selected? I'm just wondering
- 28:27Speaker 3: how much he's improved his stock here by staying in college.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Maybe late first.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Right.
- 28:37Speaker 5: I would say. I would say more likely, probably early second.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Wow. You know?
- 28:44Speaker 5: Yes. Right.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 2: So.
- 28:47Speaker 6: And you got to remember, too, each slot in that
- 28:50Speaker 6: first round is like almost a million.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Dollars a slot.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Yes, right.
- 28:53Speaker 6: As you escalate up to like now it's, you know,
- 28:56Speaker 6: a 50-something million and, you know, almost 40 million guaranteed
- 29:00Speaker 6: for the first contract.
- 29:02Speaker 5: So we're talking not millions.
- 29:05Speaker 6: We're talking maybe tens of millions that he's improved his stock.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Todd, you mentioned Dante Moore. And I'm wondering at what
- 29:14Speaker 4: point you start worrying about dropping him down in your rankings,
- 29:18Speaker 4: considering how the first few games have gone for him.
- 29:21Speaker 1: He loves him though.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Here's where I am.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Here's where I am with Dante. And again, it's, it's
- 29:26Speaker 5: only one meaning.
- 29:27Speaker 6: Well, Boise state to a certain degree, but the Oklahoma
- 29:31Speaker 6: state loss jumps out, right? I'm telling you, I can watch,
- 29:37Speaker 6: I watched that tape um, Thursday of last week. I
- 29:41Speaker 6: can show you like this guy's like that.
- 29:44Speaker 5: I think it's number nine.
- 29:45Speaker 6: The guy who, who tracked down, um, messed a maker
- 29:48Speaker 6: on that, that long run from out of nowhere, linebacker.
- 29:52Speaker 5: Like 230 pounds, whatever. He's, he looks like he's running
- 29:54Speaker 5: a four, three.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Um, they got, they got two that bear Alexander and, um,
- 29:59Speaker 6: Amario Washington, the defensive tackle. Mateo Uyunga-Lillay. They've got NFL
- 30:06Speaker 6: dudes all over the place. But what they don't have
- 30:10Speaker 6: early this season is a transition at coordinator, both sides.
- 30:19Speaker 6: Look what Will Stein just did at Kentucky with Kenny Minchey.
- 30:23Speaker 6: And that third quarter was coming out of halftime, the adjustments.
- 30:27Speaker 6: One of the best quarterbacks most dominant quarters I've seen
- 30:30Speaker 6: in SEC or, you know, power four in maybe a
- 30:34Speaker 6: couple years. That third quarter, it was like 182 total
- 30:37Speaker 6: yards of offense to like 21. Scored on all three
- 30:40Speaker 6: offensive possessions. So Will Stein, who's developed Bo Nix from
- 30:43Speaker 6: what Nix was at Auburn.
- 30:46Speaker 5: Dylan Gabriel got him drafted in.
- 30:48Speaker 1: The third round.
- 30:49Speaker 5: That's not a third-round quarterback.
- 30:51Speaker 6: And Dante Moore, what he was at UCLA, where it
- 30:55Speaker 6: didn't work as a freshman, let him sit and learn,
- 30:56Speaker 6: and then all of a sudden he's a first-round pick.
- 30:59Speaker 6: And then Tosh Lapoi, considered one of the best defensive
- 31:05Speaker 6: coordinators in college football, goes to Cal. And now I'm
- 31:08Speaker 6: not saying that the coordinators aren't qualified, but so far
- 31:12Speaker 6: you can see, like the eye discipline, and it was like,
- 31:16Speaker 6: Keystone cops, like the safeties and some of the cornerback play,
- 31:21Speaker 6: just like everyone out of position. Then offensively, there's no flow.
- 31:24Speaker 6: The route combinations aren't the same. So I watched that
- 31:29Speaker 6: tape through the lens of NFL prospect Dante Moore, what's wrong?
- 31:35Speaker 6: And I saw one overthrow on a sale route to
- 31:37Speaker 6: the left that it was early.
- 31:39Speaker 5: In the game.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Maybe it was a miscommunication or the wide receiver depth,
- 31:43Speaker 6: but I think it was just a bad throw by Dante.
- 31:45Speaker 6: And there was one other decision But the thing with
- 31:47Speaker 6: Dante is this.
- 31:48Speaker 7: Like his ceiling ceiling, if he can get that, like
- 31:54Speaker 7: a little bit more dog in him and a little
- 31:56Speaker 7: bit more climbing, decisive toughness, like I'm taking this thing
- 32:01Speaker 7: over is like a Joe Burrow.
- 32:04Speaker 6: What I think the best comparison right now is, and
- 32:07Speaker 6: we've seen the best of with CJ Stroud rookie year,
- 32:09Speaker 6: and we've seen what's happened since.
- 32:11Speaker 5: And I don't know what all the things that are
- 32:13Speaker 5: going into.
- 32:13Speaker 6: CJ Stroud and kind of the decline. But I think
- 32:17Speaker 6: the most apt comparison is C.J.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Stroud, right?
- 32:21Speaker 6: But he's got to be great, and he's got to
- 32:24Speaker 6: also have great support around him in the right system.
- 32:28Speaker 6: He's not Superman. Like, arch in the second half against
- 32:31Speaker 6: Ohio State, Superman.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Chambliss, first half of that game, and then when they
- 32:35Speaker 5: need it again.
- 32:37Speaker 1: And by the way, the second.
- 32:38Speaker 6: Georgia game last year was the best tape I saw
- 32:40Speaker 6: of any quarterback last year. And outside of maybe Mendoza
- 32:44Speaker 6: against Ohio State, Superman. Some of these guys, and you
- 32:49Speaker 6: look in the NFL, Lamar can put on the cape.
- 32:55Speaker 6: Josh Allen certainly can put on the cape.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Every Sunday, yes. Every Sunday, right?
- 33:00Speaker 6: I don't know that Dante has that in him.
- 33:02Speaker 5: We haven't seen that yet. So that's the difference because now.
- 33:05Speaker 6: I'm comparing Arch and Chambliss, and let's see what Mensah
- 33:09Speaker 6: does as they start to play better competition.
- 33:12Speaker 5: I don't see it declining. I think you know what
- 33:14Speaker 5: you're getting.
- 33:16Speaker 6: And so the organization that drafts them better have the
- 33:18Speaker 6: right coordinator and better have the right supporting cast. You
- 33:22Speaker 6: can win a ton of you can win a Super
- 33:23Speaker 6: Bowl with Dante in the NFL eventually.
- 33:26Speaker 5: But it's not going.
- 33:27Speaker 6: To be like Josh where a couple of years, even
- 33:30Speaker 6: like Drake May. I know he's gone through his interceptions
- 33:32Speaker 6: now and all that. But there are guys in the
- 33:34Speaker 6: league that can absolutely just carry an offense. I don't
- 33:38Speaker 6: know that Dante's ever going to be that guy. But
- 33:40Speaker 6: Dante plays with such precision and is such an elite,
- 33:43Speaker 6: talented passer.
- 33:44Speaker 5: That he can be great in the NFL.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Todd, I'm watching the SMU-Louisville game. Louisville's Clev Lubin. Is
- 33:51Speaker 2: he the best player that nobody's talking about right now?
- 33:54Speaker 5: He's one of them, man. How about that?
- 33:57Speaker 6: He punched out two balls in the opener against Ole Miss, right? Yeah,
- 34:03Speaker 6: he's one of the top 50 prospects coming in the year.
- 34:05Speaker 6: We just— Shameless plug, but theringer.com slash McShea is where
- 34:11Speaker 6: our top 50 just dropped last week for the 2027 draft,
- 34:15Speaker 6: and he was in there in the top 50. He's
- 34:18Speaker 6: not the tallest, longest, fastest, but he's powerful.
- 34:22Speaker 5: He's relentless. He'll jar the ball loose.
- 34:26Speaker 6: He had another great game against SMU. I mean, this guy,
- 34:29Speaker 6: he's one of the elite difference makers at edge in
- 34:32Speaker 6: the country, so that's a good spot by you.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Who is the best player in college football? If you
- 34:36Speaker 3: were selecting number one overall, you didn't need a position.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Position be damned. Who's the best player in college football?
- 34:43Speaker 5: Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Easily?
- 34:46Speaker 5: Highest grade at wide receiver since Calvin Johnson.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Plays like Julio Jones, but in terms of grade, completeness,
- 34:57Speaker 6: I think it's Jeremiah Smith.
- 34:59Speaker 5: Second best player, it's interesting, the two best players aren't quarterbacks.
- 35:03Speaker 6: Leonard Moore, the cornerback from Notre Dame is just, he's like,
- 35:06Speaker 6: he's Patrick Sertan.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Wow.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Who's the quarterback Todd, like in college, you thought to yourself,
- 35:11Speaker 3: there's no way that guy's game is going to translate
- 35:13Speaker 3: to the NFL. And then it translated to the NFL
- 35:16Speaker 3: in a way that you were like, Oh my God,
- 35:18Speaker 3: is it like Jalen Hurts?
- 35:19Speaker 1: Someone like that, I guess is what I'm asking.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Hurts was interesting.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 6: I saw, I started to see more from her when
- 35:27Speaker 6: he left Alabama. I, I was like, yeah, that, that he's,
- 35:32Speaker 6: I don't know that it's ever going to work.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Really good runner, kind of creator.
- 35:36Speaker 6: But I didn't know that he would ever play with
- 35:39Speaker 6: the efficiency that he has developed.
- 35:41Speaker 5: And it's a credit to him.
- 35:42Speaker 6: And obviously there's ups and downs and all sorts of
- 35:48Speaker 6: things that happen when you get to the NFL and
- 35:50Speaker 6: the supporting cast and personalities and everything else.
- 35:53Speaker 5: But I didn't know that he'd ever get to the
- 35:56Speaker 5: level that he is. I mean, I'll be Lamar. Wasn't
- 35:59Speaker 5: the pastor that he is right. Uh, Josh, Josh Allen.
- 36:03Speaker 6: Like I love, I did the Wyoming game after Levy
- 36:06Speaker 6: got me to sit on a horse and I learned
- 36:08Speaker 6: that I was allergic to horses the night before and
- 36:10Speaker 6: my face blew up and I was out there now
- 36:12Speaker 6: in the snow storm.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Thank God.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Cause I'm covered like a snowman, but I'm watching him
- 36:17Speaker 6: in a snow storm in the mountain West conference championship game.
- 36:21Speaker 6: And he's throwing it like 70 yards in the air. And, but,
- 36:24Speaker 6: but there are some throws that are like three yards
- 36:26Speaker 6: into the stands and he's missing open receivers.
- 36:29Speaker 5: But, and then you go watch his tape.
- 36:31Speaker 6: I didn't know that he'd ever develop into this level of.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Passer too, you know?
- 36:36Speaker 6: So, so it used to be the old thing in
- 36:39Speaker 6: evaluating quarterbacks was like, you are who you are.
- 36:43Speaker 5: From an accuracy standpoint, you know?
- 36:45Speaker 6: I can remember being up in Bristol for like weeks
- 36:47Speaker 6: before the draft and all of a sudden I used
- 36:49Speaker 6: to call them the biker, the NFL films biker gang
- 36:52Speaker 6: with Merrill Hodge and Jaws would come up and you
- 36:55Speaker 6: could like almost hear them in the Bristol parking like,
- 36:58Speaker 6: because they'd come storming in all pissed off. They'd have
- 37:02Speaker 6: to watch all of our shows, come in from NFL
- 37:04Speaker 6: films and be like, this guy can't play in the
- 37:06Speaker 6: National Football League. These are grown men in the National
- 37:09Speaker 6: Football League.
- 37:11Speaker 4: And whatever.
- 37:12Speaker 6: Theories and evaluations Kuyper and I and everyone else had,
- 37:15Speaker 6: they'd come in in 48 hours and just tear them apart.
- 37:19Speaker 6: But the whole thing was pocket passers, tall, see the
- 37:23Speaker 6: whole field. You can tell by their footwork if it's
- 37:25Speaker 6: going to be a complete pass. High ball carriage, you know.
- 37:28Speaker 6: And then the league started changing, man. And guys like
- 37:32Speaker 6: Lamar started breaking the mold. And Patrick Mahomes, whose mechanics
- 37:36Speaker 6: at Texas Tech were a disaster. And it became more
- 37:39Speaker 6: of a, let's evaluate the results first. as much, if
- 37:43Speaker 6: not more than, than the, the mechanics and the footwork
- 37:47Speaker 6: and how everyone was taught at a quarterback clinic. So
- 37:50Speaker 6: it's been fascinating to watch in the last 15 years,
- 37:52Speaker 6: the transformation of that position specifically.
- 37:54Speaker 3: All right, man, we know you got to run the
- 37:56Speaker 3: McShay show, wherever you get your podcast, part of the
- 37:58Speaker 3: ringer network, promote that again, the top 50, where is it?
- 38:02Speaker 5: The ringer.com slash McShay.
- 38:04Speaker 6: It's the McShea draft guide. We're pretty proud of it.
- 38:07Speaker 6: We're going to build that into basically what you would
- 38:10Speaker 6: get as a GM in the NFL, like in the
- 38:13Speaker 6: scouting department. So we're pumped to unveil the top 50,
- 38:18Speaker 6: and it'll grow to top 350, 400 by the time
- 38:21Speaker 6: April's draft comes along. This is the most anticipated draft
- 38:24Speaker 6: of my 26 years of doing this thing.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Oh, no doubt. Are you proud of me for keeping
- 38:28Speaker 1: it mostly football? I mean, what do you think?
- 38:31Speaker 5: Yeah, and not one Jets mentioned.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Jets look good, man. No, I don't want to hear that.
- 38:36Speaker 3: I mean, listen, they lost a game they should have won,
- 38:40Speaker 3: and Aaron Glenn does not know how to manage a clock.
- 38:42Speaker 1: It's annoying.
- 38:43Speaker 5: Oh, okay, okay, okay.
- 38:45Speaker 1: He set me off.
- 38:50Speaker 6: But this feels like an organization, and it feels like
- 38:54Speaker 6: a team that is like, I don't know.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It feels it started. It's starting to feel different.
- 38:58Speaker 6: And I'm looking at a mock draft right now. That's
- 39:00Speaker 6: got three picks in the first round.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Yeah. So it'd be interesting to see how it plays out.
- 39:04Speaker 4: Take three of them.
- 39:05Speaker 1: No, it's fair.
- 39:05Speaker 3: What you're saying is fair. No, it's they're not embarrassing us.
- 39:08Speaker 3: And so that's a good start. It's a step in
- 39:10Speaker 3: the right direction. I haven't been embarrassed. And the games
- 39:12Speaker 3: are still meaningful.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Yeah. The games three weeks in, they're still meaningful. They're
- 39:17Speaker 1: a head coach away. That's it.
- 39:18Speaker 3: You know that you don't want to say that. I'll
- 39:20Speaker 3: say they're a head coach away. Get out of here,
- 39:22Speaker 3: Todd McShay. We appreciate the time during a very busy
- 39:25Speaker 3: time for you.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Thank you, buddy.
- 39:27Speaker 6: Hey, tell hey tell taylor tell tell dan comber to
- 39:30Speaker 6: put a put a shirt with sleeves on he doesn't
- 39:33Speaker 6: have the build every saturday night like 1 a.m we
- 39:36Speaker 6: come in off the show yes and he's got this
- 39:39Speaker 6: like the tank top gets skinnier every week and he's
- 39:42Speaker 6: not there lifting yet I know he's in your fantasy team.
- 39:46Speaker 1: He doesn't have the guns to wear a tank top
- 39:48Speaker 1: is what you're saying?
- 39:49Speaker 5: I mean, he's working out. He looks great.
- 39:50Speaker 6: I'm not here to destroy the man. But it's got
- 39:57Speaker 6: to be more of a Tebow physique than a Comer physique.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Oh, he's going to kill me for this.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I'm glad.
- 40:04Speaker 2: He's the character in our league.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Oh, he is.
- 40:06Speaker 6: He's the character everywhere he goes.
- 40:09Speaker 1: We all laughed when you said you were allergic to horses.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I don't know why. It just made us laugh. I mean,
- 40:14Speaker 1: and he didn't know it. I owned a horse.
- 40:15Speaker 6: Portnoy and I and Elio and Bernoni, we owned a horse.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Yes.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Smoke Show City was the horse.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Right. We eventually wound up selling it off. All right.
- 40:27Speaker 5: And- And I went, you know, I went, me with
- 40:31Speaker 5: my stopwatch, like an old scout. I'm there, like, it's
- 40:34Speaker 5: Suffolk Downs, where it's training. Yes.
- 40:36Speaker 1: You're timing his 40 out. You're timing the horse's 40.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Down the stretch, yeah.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Yeah, stretch run.
- 40:44Speaker 5: But I went in there at one time, and I
- 40:46Speaker 5: went in, and I petted it.
- 40:47Speaker 6: Giving it some love, giving him some love.
- 40:51Speaker 5: And I realized, because I'm allergic to cats. Oh, so,
- 40:56Speaker 5: but I didn't realize I was like, I was just,
- 40:57Speaker 5: it's mild. So I'll take like a Benadryl.
- 40:59Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 40:59Speaker 5: You know? And then we went to Wyoming and went inside.
- 41:02Speaker 5: They had this like the center.
- 41:04Speaker 6: That was like indoors. Cause it was dead of winter
- 41:06Speaker 6: with like a hundred horses. And I blew up. We
- 41:11Speaker 6: did an open with me, greasy and Levy on, on horses.
- 41:15Speaker 5: With cowboy hats.
- 41:17Speaker 7: Right.
- 41:17Speaker 5: And I got off that horse and I like, I
- 41:20Speaker 5: almost had to.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Go to the hospital. Jesus Christ, McShay. Yeah.
- 41:23Speaker 5: It was a nightmare.
- 41:25Speaker 1: All right. All right, get out of here. See you
- 41:27Speaker 1: guys later. He's laughing. We appreciate it, buddy.
- 41:31Speaker 3: The McShay Show, wherever you get your podcasts.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Thanks so much for doing this, man.
- 41:35Speaker 5: You got it, man. I always have the hard outs,
- 41:37Speaker 5: and I'm the one ruining it, not you.
- 41:39Speaker 1: All right, later. See you, buddy.
