- 0:00Speaker 1: I saw something I wanted to buy you, but then
- 0:01Speaker 1: I thought Casey said there was a moratorium unbuying you
- 0:05Speaker 1: anything Star Wars.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Okay, so here's the thing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I just want to know if I had permission to
- 0:11Speaker 1: buy you this cool thing I saw.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It depends on what it is.
- 0:15Speaker 3: If it's something to be turned into a set prop, no, absolutely.
- 0:22Speaker 1: It's something you can hang on your wall.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Oh, if it's like a vintage poster.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Should I tell you? And if you like it, it
- 0:30Speaker 1: could be your Christmas present.
- 0:32Speaker 3: No, because I want my Christmas present. I want you
- 0:36Speaker 3: to think like you would buy something that you would
- 0:38Speaker 3: buy for yourself for Christmas. Because I've really gotten into
- 0:43Speaker 3: lenses and.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm not buying you a camera. Well, I'll just tell
- 0:50Speaker 1: you because I don't think Casey's going to allow it.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But I stumbled across this amazing Italian poster for the
- 0:57Speaker 1: original Star Wars that it's uh, it's original. It was
- 1:03Speaker 1: the original Star Wars poster. You guys should google this.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But it was almost it was like done like a cartoon,
- 1:09Speaker 1: like they didn't take the exact art of the movie.
- 1:12Speaker 1: The Italians, I guess in seventy five was it sort
- 1:15Speaker 1: of did an interpretation of it, and it was it's
- 1:19Speaker 1: really cool.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Is it this one?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Get Ustelardi? Yes, hold that up. Look Donald, it's so Goodol,
- 1:29Speaker 1: it's beautiful. You're raising her hand. Allowed to buy you
- 1:31Speaker 1: the Italian Star Wars?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Why would Casey say that couldn't be bought?
- 1:35Speaker 1: I thought that Casey was like, please, no more Star
- 1:38Speaker 1: Wars ship on our walls.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Please please. She sounds like a prospector Still.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I feel like the last time I brought up something
- 1:58Speaker 1: like this, she was like, I'm begging you.
- 2:00Speaker 5: I need some nice art nothing Star Wars.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Please.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Your Casey comm impersonation is spot on. Bro.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm begging you.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Please.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We got enough.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I'm begging they got enough.
- 2:20Speaker 5: If we have one more Star Wars thing, I'm moving out.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We already got tach Twin in the Garral She liked
- 2:44Speaker 1: the indie poster I Got You, though, I got you,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I Got you the UK the original UK Indiana Jones
- 2:53Speaker 1: poster where he has a blue T shirt.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Where he has a blue shirt on instead.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Of I saw it in a movie, in a movie
- 2:59Speaker 1: that took p in a movie theater. In that era,
- 3:04Speaker 1: there was this in the UK, there was this gorgeous
- 3:07Speaker 1: horizontal og Indiana Jones poster and I was like, I
- 3:12Speaker 1: quickly googled there because I knew that must be original.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They're not going to put the fake thing up. And
- 3:16Speaker 1: then I found it. I tracked one down and I
- 3:18Speaker 1: had it put on linen and I had it framed
- 3:20Speaker 1: for Donald.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Let me ask you a question, when was It's an
- 3:24Speaker 3: amazing poster, first of all, and it made me think
- 3:27Speaker 3: of this, and I've been wanting to talk about it
- 3:29Speaker 3: on the podcast for a long time, and I keep
- 3:31Speaker 3: forgetting because I smoked so much weed. But when was
- 3:36Speaker 3: the last time? But they can it'll It'll happen eventually.
- 3:39Speaker 3: When was the last time that you watched Raiders of
- 3:43Speaker 3: the Lost Ark? All of you are masking all.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Of them, I mean decades, long time, last year. Nice.
- 3:49Speaker 3: It really is a classic movie, now, you know what
- 3:53Speaker 3: I mean? Like when you look at the way it shot,
- 3:55Speaker 3: the film stock, the sound, all of that stuff, it
- 4:00Speaker 3: really is a classic movie. Like it looks like more
- 4:03Speaker 3: like Lawrence of Arabia than it does.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Than it does the movies that are out now.
- 4:10Speaker 3: When it gets to Temple of Doom and everything like that,
- 4:13Speaker 3: somehow it switches over and it's digital and all of
- 4:15Speaker 3: that stuff and we can go on with Last Crusade,
- 4:19Speaker 3: but Raiders of the Lost Dark and my from what
- 4:22Speaker 3: I can imagine, is the last film that I watched
- 4:27Speaker 3: where I was like, wow, I can I can honestly
- 4:29Speaker 3: tell there was a difference. There was a split. This
- 4:32Speaker 3: is where this is the last time George Lucas, in
- 4:36Speaker 3: my opinion, he split this was it no more film,
- 4:41Speaker 3: We're gonna move towards digital. And you can see the
- 4:43Speaker 3: progression in in uh from that moment on it was.
- 4:48Speaker 3: It's really interesting, like it even the sound, the way
- 4:51Speaker 3: the the the punches, everything, it just sounds like, uh,
- 4:56Speaker 3: did you do you guys remember Annie?
- 4:57Speaker 2: The movie Annie?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah? Did you ever watch and Yeah?
- 5:01Speaker 2: With pun job pun jab and all that stuff. Do
- 5:04Speaker 2: you remember when they went to the movies? Let's go
- 5:06Speaker 2: to the movie and they're watching the movie and how old.
- 5:10Speaker 3: That movie felt? Yes, that's what that was raised at
- 5:14Speaker 3: a loss start, that's what it feels.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Like now you want to revisit it.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's pretty good. It's really when you're seen alone, Oh
- 5:22Speaker 2: my gosh, just everything.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Don't I tell you guys to watch Strange Darlings that
- 5:26Speaker 1: I mentioned that I don't recall my darlings. It's a
- 5:32Speaker 1: movie that's out that I really highly recommend. You can
- 5:35Speaker 1: get it on your your streaming services. But it's I
- 5:38Speaker 1: really really recommend that I did watch something that you recommended.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Finally ahead, what was it, Danel? It was chimp crazy amazing, Right,
- 5:49Speaker 1: You're welcome. You were not kidding at all. It was
- 5:54Speaker 1: that JINX level reveal at the end of episode two. Yeah, spoilers, Danel,
- 5:59Speaker 1: No spoilers. I was reeling, reeling because I was. I was,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know, you're watching it and you're thinking, no, way
- 6:08Speaker 1: does certain thing happen. And even though I was kind
- 6:12Speaker 1: of way a certain thing happened, even though I was
- 6:15Speaker 1: kind of expecting it, the way that it reveals itself
- 6:18Speaker 1: is so mind boggling.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I was.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I was sitting up in my seat, I was leaning forward.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I was like yelling at the TV. That was such
- 6:27Speaker 1: a good watch.
- 6:28Speaker 4: That's good.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I want to talk about something else I watched that.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Donald will appreciate because I don't usually watch animated movies.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I don't have children.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I wanted you to watch something else, but I appreciate
- 6:39Speaker 3: I do appreciate you watching this.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I watched this movie and it was so amazing. If
- 6:44Speaker 1: you have kids, especially watch this, but even if you don't,
- 6:50Speaker 1: The Wild Robot. Yeah, so dude, that must be. That's
- 6:55Speaker 1: one of the best movies of the year.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Wow, dude, my kids and my wife watched that shit.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I passed out in the middle of it.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You didn't go back and finish it.
- 7:06Speaker 3: I got the gist. But I'm crying with them in
- 7:08Speaker 3: the end. All right, I'm crying with them in the end.
- 7:10Speaker 3: All right, let's just put it down.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Let's this way.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You fell asleep, woke up, and then still cry and
- 7:14Speaker 1: still Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 3: That's funny, yo, But for real, man, that movie is
- 7:25Speaker 3: that from what I saw and the way my kids
- 7:28Speaker 3: responded to it, Like, my son really responded to it.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He turned to my wife and was like.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Mom, I know sometimes I don't act like I don't
- 7:38Speaker 6: appreciate you. I know I sometimes act like that, but
- 7:41Speaker 6: I really do appreciate everything you do.
- 7:43Speaker 1: From men, God, that's so sweet.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I was like, I fucking love this movie. Yeah, this
- 7:51Speaker 3: is the best movie ever. My wife never felt more
- 7:54Speaker 3: appreciated ever like it.
- 7:57Speaker 1: But it's beautiful.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It is beautiful, man, keep it one hund.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It's beautiful, and you know, my mom, as you guys
- 8:03Speaker 1: know because she came on the podcast, is an adoption
- 8:06Speaker 1: specialist who was a psychologist specializing in adoption and birth
- 8:10Speaker 1: mothers her whole career. And I had this just realization
- 8:13Speaker 1: while I was watching it. It's also just it's such
- 8:15Speaker 1: a beautiful adoption story. If you have adopted kids, and
- 8:19Speaker 1: I mean all children will appreciate it, but if you
- 8:21Speaker 1: happen to have adoption in your life, it really is
- 8:23Speaker 1: about this robot adopting this baby bird and learning how
- 8:30Speaker 1: to parent. I mean, I don't want to ruin anything.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It's just so moving to me. I clutched my pearls
- 8:35Speaker 1: for most of it.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's a good movie. A good movie.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Okay, I want to see a Nora that's the one.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I want you to watch Running Scared. Man,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I think.
- 8:52Speaker 1: We should remake Running Scared. I have never seen Running Scared.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It's so good, and not the one with Paul Walker.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I feel like where every a lot of the young
- 9:01Speaker 3: audience is gonna go for.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Oh is that did Paul Walker remake the movie?
- 9:05Speaker 2: No, there was a movie called similarly.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Okay, similarly, we're talking about the one with Gregory Hines
- 9:12Speaker 3: and Billy Crystal this movie.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I'm telling you, just give it a one.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Did you watch it? I said, caseld me up, Casey
- 9:20Speaker 1: told me you were rewatching it.
- 9:21Speaker 3: It still holds up, you know what I mean. It's
- 9:23Speaker 3: like the jokes are the jokes are of the time, obviously.
- 9:28Speaker 3: But dude, man, it's Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines and Jimmy.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Jimmy SMI what yeah, bad guy right, yeah?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Man, and freaking Joey Pants is in it. Like, dude,
- 9:40Speaker 2: it's a good movie.
- 9:41Speaker 1: We could still have Jimmy young Joey Pants too. We
- 9:44Speaker 1: can have Jimmy Smith's come back and be the bad
- 9:47Speaker 1: guy again.
- 9:48Speaker 7: Amazing.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yeah, man, but that would be that would be pretty cool.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But I mean, I'm not I'm not going to ruin
- 9:53Speaker 2: this by saying this, but he dies in the end.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Oh spoilers, Donald, that's not.
- 9:59Speaker 2: A first the nineties. It's an eighties movie.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Man.
- 10:02Speaker 2: They all all the bad guys die in the Internet.
- 10:04Speaker 7: Ship, which he said it in Chicago, Donald, keep it
- 10:08Speaker 7: the same city.
- 10:09Speaker 2: So here's the thing. I'm not from Chicago.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I couldn't necessarily portray the Chicago cop as well as
- 10:19Speaker 3: to take it to someone from Chicago.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I would want to do it in New York.
- 10:23Speaker 3: But you know, hey, I mean I was just in
- 10:25Speaker 3: New York at a police station.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I didn't get arrested. I lost my wallet.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It was about you know, what's the dance movie with
- 10:34Speaker 1: Gregory Hines and Barishnakough. Why don't we remake that White Knights.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Let's remake White Knights?
- 10:39Speaker 2: Say you say?
- 10:41Speaker 1: Say it together? Say it for all the loved White
- 10:44Speaker 1: Knights when I was a kid, which is weird because
- 10:46Speaker 1: it's by no means a kid's movie.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And but it's about breaking down the walls between America
- 10:51Speaker 2: and Russia, like they.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I know, swap swap. Do you remember? Do you all?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Have you seen this movie Defector?
- 10:57Speaker 7: We have it?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Watch it isn't this It's amazing. And it's about a
- 11:05Speaker 1: Russian ballet dancer who wants to defect from Russia and
- 11:10Speaker 1: Gregory Hines, who plays an insane tap dancer.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I forget it, like a dancer in Russia. He defected
- 11:17Speaker 2: to Russia.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Why did he even defect to Russia?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yes?
- 11:22Speaker 1: Why did he go to Russia?
- 11:24Speaker 2: I don't know. That's the movie, man, Like that's what
- 11:26Speaker 2: I remember it as.
- 11:27Speaker 7: When plane makes an allergency landing in Siberia, ballet dancer
- 11:31Speaker 7: Nikolay is recognized as a defector and brought into custody,
- 11:36Speaker 7: so he doesn't defect, but he's recognized as a defector
- 11:39Speaker 7: after an emergency landing.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Oh I see, but then there is a big tap scene,
- 11:47Speaker 1: isn't it dond But the Phil Collins song? Was that
- 11:54Speaker 1: an original Phil Collins song from the movie say.
- 11:56Speaker 2: You He's not Phil Collins? Brought up? It was Lionel
- 12:00Speaker 2: Ritchie line.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Now isn't there a full Colin song in the movie too?
- 12:06Speaker 3: No, you're thinking of, You're thinking of against all odds.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And take a look at me.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Now, that's such a bop.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Because there's just an empty place space. You're coming back
- 12:22Speaker 3: to me. It's against it's a chance I take.
- 12:29Speaker 1: That's a bop. Take a look at me now. My
- 12:32Speaker 1: doctor scared the ship out of me this morning. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: didn't like it. I went and had this body scan. Donald,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you would like this. As someone who's in a hypochondriac
- 12:44Speaker 1: You go in this MRI machine and they search your
- 12:46Speaker 1: entire body for any tumors. And I just did it
- 12:53Speaker 1: because like you told me to do it. And I
- 12:57Speaker 1: think when you leave, they're like Okay, it's going to
- 12:59Speaker 1: be two weeks, you'll hear. So this morning I get
- 13:04Speaker 1: a text it's like, the doctor would like to discuss
- 13:08Speaker 1: your m Ariah results with you. And then and then
- 13:14Speaker 1: the text was like, how's the seventh how's like the
- 13:16Speaker 1: seventeenth of November? It's the seventh today. I'm like, what
- 13:21Speaker 1: you're telling me that he got the results instantaneously, he
- 13:26Speaker 1: wants to discuss them in person, but he wants to
- 13:30Speaker 1: wait till this for ten days.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Mm hmmm.
- 13:33Speaker 1: So I called that motherfucker up real quick.
- 13:37Speaker 2: That's hold up. That's usually a good sign. No, hold up,
- 13:42Speaker 2: that's good.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Why what do we have to talk about in person?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Do I have cancer or not?
- 13:47Speaker 3: If you did, he would want to talk to you
- 13:49Speaker 3: right away to get you on into of course.
- 13:52Speaker 1: But like, why are we? Why are we talking about anything?
- 13:54Speaker 1: Why are we talking about anything? And why are we
- 13:56Speaker 1: waiting ten days?
- 13:59Speaker 7: Shoot me?
- 13:59Speaker 1: And I can't exactly what. I don't know either, so
- 14:03Speaker 1: let's go. I texted him. I was like, what the fuck?
- 14:05Speaker 4: What are you doing?
- 14:06Speaker 1: You're gonna ruin my whole day. I'm too neurotic for this.
- 14:09Speaker 2: What do you saying?
- 14:11Speaker 1: He goes, it's it's standard procedure when you have an MRI,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you discuss it. I go, well, now you got me scared.
- 14:17Speaker 1: He goes, oh, no, everything's fine. You worry about Like,
- 14:20Speaker 1: what the fuck did you text me that for. I
- 14:24Speaker 1: don't need to come out.
- 14:25Speaker 7: And lead with that. Everything's fine.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I just want to go over. I'm not coming in.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'm not coming in in ten days to look at nothing.
- 14:31Speaker 5: I'm busy.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. But for a solid twenty minutes, I
- 14:42Speaker 1: was like, I'm dying. I'm dying. Start giving away shit,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you start giving away, start giving away clothes. Donald can
- 14:52Speaker 1: have these sucks.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I want the money I've left you no money.
- 15:02Speaker 1: My mom gets all my money.
- 15:05Speaker 2: There it is.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I'm taking my mom to the baby, to baby gallap.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I guess you're not coming Donald, you know what? Like
- 15:11Speaker 1: once again Donald and Casey have bailed on something we
- 15:14Speaker 1: were going to do together.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Here is the thing, bro, keeping it one hundred with you.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I respect the gala and I'm really down to go,
- 15:23Speaker 3: but it is on a weekend. I do have time
- 15:27Speaker 3: to myself on these days, and I don't want to
- 15:30Speaker 3: spend it.
- 15:33Speaker 7: I actually understand it. It's usually Donald, I'm like, get
- 15:35Speaker 7: out but lately I've been creating so much alone time.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Fine. Fine.
- 15:40Speaker 1: The point is that once a year there's this very
- 15:43Speaker 1: big gala in LA and it's all for impoverished children,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and it's a big deal and we often go. Donald
- 15:53Speaker 1: Casey and I have gone. I've taken my mom a
- 15:55Speaker 1: few times. Has been a few years since I've taken
- 15:57Speaker 1: my mom, but I'm taking her this year. And Donald
- 16:00Speaker 1: and Casey and I had all discussed going.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Here's the thing. I want to sit on the table
- 16:04Speaker 2: with you, though. Bro.
- 16:06Speaker 3: It is a big fundraiser and it's a great fundraiser,
- 16:08Speaker 3: and it does things like gives gives diapers to to
- 16:12Speaker 3: This is the one of the most important things that
- 16:14Speaker 3: parents need, young parents need.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It gives diapers to children.
- 16:17Speaker 1: It gives a lot of money for a great cause.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And you also run into people you have seen in
- 16:22Speaker 1: a while. And I was excited, and Donald and Casey
- 16:25Speaker 1: had said they were going, and I invited my mom
- 16:28Speaker 1: and she's she went and got a beautiful gown and
- 16:32Speaker 1: it's black tigh. And then I check in with Casey
- 16:34Speaker 1: and Donald.
- 16:35Speaker 2: You are a fucking asshole. Fuck you dude, don't even
- 16:37Speaker 2: try this.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Don't even what is false. What have I said false
- 16:41Speaker 1: thus far?
- 16:41Speaker 2: It's you're just misleading. It's not false. You're saying everything
- 16:45Speaker 2: is true, but you are misleading. Pressure.
- 16:49Speaker 1: I haven't any pressure. Hold on pressure to go to
- 16:52Speaker 1: a charity event.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You were like, Yo, hold on, this shit costs money.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hold on it is a charity event.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you can afford it. You donate to a charity,
- 17:02Speaker 1: you can afford a ticket. That's why you give charity.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Pear pressure again.
- 17:06Speaker 1: So then I check in with and Donald, and Casey's like, oh,
- 17:10Speaker 1: we ain't going no more. And I'm like what we
- 17:15Speaker 1: never got a.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Sitter and and I if we ain't gonna be able
- 17:20Speaker 5: to sit next to you, We're just not don't do it.
- 17:24Speaker 5: I never did get a gown. I don't have to
- 17:28Speaker 5: get hair and make up. Please, no more Star Wars
- 17:34Speaker 5: things on the walls.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Oh man, you do her dirty.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Well, I guess y'all ain't going, But I'm taking my mom.
- 17:47Speaker 1: My mom's so cute. My mom this morning texted me.
- 17:49Speaker 1: She she I set up with a stylist and everything,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and she's so cute. She's she's like family dressed, and
- 17:56Speaker 1: she's sent me all these cute pictures of her in
- 17:58Speaker 1: her dress and I'm just gonna be so sweet. It's
- 18:01Speaker 1: Saturday night. Yeah. Anyway, Donald, I'm sorry that you don't
- 18:05Speaker 1: like giving to a good cause. But to each their own.
- 18:08Speaker 3: That's some bullshit, bro, I do like giving too a
- 18:11Speaker 3: good cause. I just I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Man. Look, you know me. You don't like to know
- 18:17Speaker 2: how I am.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Youse, I got it.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's just what it is.
- 18:22Speaker 1: There's no judgment. Some people don't like to leave the house.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I like to leave the house, but I like to
- 18:27Speaker 3: leave the house and do Look. Man, the last time
- 18:29Speaker 3: I went, we had such a good time. But we
- 18:31Speaker 3: sat together, we drank together, we laughed together. I don't
- 18:34Speaker 3: want to sit at a table with people I don't know.
- 18:36Speaker 3: I don't want to freaking I mean, it just sounds
- 18:38Speaker 3: like an asshole thing to say. But like, yo, what
- 18:42Speaker 3: if I get sat at a table with an asshole
- 18:46Speaker 3: and that's gonna suck and it can happen, and so
- 18:50Speaker 3: you know.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Well, I think at these type of things, you're not
- 18:52Speaker 1: like stuck at your table. You're mingling, you're talking to friends.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You know so many people.
- 18:56Speaker 3: No, there's a cop, there's a meal that's served all
- 18:59Speaker 3: types says ship man, I want to sit with you.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I want to go with you.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I want to be with you, guys.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I want to be with you guys.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Do you know the movie, Danie. Let's see if Daniel
- 19:09Speaker 1: knows the movie.
- 19:09Speaker 2: It has no clue.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I want to be with you guys. The first thing
- 19:13Speaker 1: that came to mind was Goonies. But I think I'm wrong.
- 19:15Speaker 3: It's close, No, it has it has not one person.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And Goonies is in that movie.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Well, it's not cast close, it's Era close. I don't
- 19:24Speaker 1: know what I want to be with Candles. It's sixteen Candles. Oh,
- 19:28Speaker 1: I love that movie. It's a scene at the prom
- 19:30Speaker 1: and there's a nerdy kid and his parents are forcing
- 19:33Speaker 1: him to go to the prom and they push him
- 19:34Speaker 1: into the gym and they close the doors and he goes.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But I want to be with you, guys.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I want to say, I want to be with you guys.
- 19:40Speaker 1: That's funny, all right, Donald. So I'll let the charity
- 19:47Speaker 1: know that you're not charitable.
- 19:49Speaker 3: It's not that I'm not charitable. I'll totally give money
- 19:52Speaker 3: to a charity.
- 19:53Speaker 1: To the charity, Oh, really, do you plan to give
- 19:55Speaker 1: money to the charity?
- 19:57Speaker 3: Not really, but I will put me on the spot
- 19:59Speaker 3: ship if that's what it takes.
- 20:01Speaker 2: To fucking.
- 20:03Speaker 1: God, You're hilarious.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Hilarious, This whole court's hilarious.
- 20:11Speaker 1: My mom and I will will represent for for the
- 20:15Speaker 1: fase On family.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You guys won't dance like we dance when we're at
- 20:18Speaker 2: that thing.
- 20:19Speaker 1: No, we're probably not going to dance. I believe they're
- 20:22Speaker 1: honoring Charlie's throne. Oh we should go.
- 20:26Speaker 2: That's a buddy, we should go.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a shame. You could still go.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I know we text her, let me text.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I just don't understand why. You know, there's so many
- 20:36Speaker 1: things that get promised and then not fulfilled upon.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Did we go to Vegas?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, because Casey thought you did.
- 20:44Speaker 2: We have a good time. Did we have a good
- 20:46Speaker 2: time in Vegas? Do you want to discuss Do you
- 20:48Speaker 2: want to discuss what you guys said about me last week?
- 20:52Speaker 1: Do you want to Can we talk about can we
- 20:53Speaker 1: talk about how you got in your feelings?
- 20:55Speaker 2: We could totally discuss.
- 20:57Speaker 1: We missed the weeks, so we haven't been able to
- 20:58Speaker 1: talk about that. Oh my god, this is the funniest
- 21:01Speaker 1: thing in the world. So I'm talking.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I don't know if it's funny, but I do want
- 21:04Speaker 2: to discuss it.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Casey. I was facetiming Casey and she said that Donald
- 21:11Speaker 1: got in his feelings about something that happened on the podcast.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And I'm like, what could possibly have put Donald in
- 21:17Speaker 1: his feelings? And she said that when you said that
- 21:22Speaker 1: no one would subscribe to his only fans?
- 21:31Speaker 3: No, because first it started off as no woman would subscribe,
- 21:35Speaker 3: No woman, no young woman.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Because I don't think of women.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And then you said and then you said no gay man. No, No,
- 21:44Speaker 3: you said yes, you guys.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Said say that.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I said, I said, gay man.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Would love your Who was a guest that day?
- 21:52Speaker 1: It was Michael Yury, don't remember Michael Urry.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yeah, Michael Yury, a gay man said that no gay
- 21:59Speaker 3: man would ever.
- 22:00Speaker 1: No, I think you may kid subscribe.
- 22:03Speaker 2: That's not what I sound. Cut to the tape right here,
- 22:06Speaker 2: all I know.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Cut to it, Okay, cut to the section right here. Daniel. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna make that much. I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: it's a niche mark.
- 22:15Speaker 2: You dude, Fuck you, dude. My ass is fucking beautiful.
- 22:18Speaker 2: And I'm sure so it's beautiful.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a lot of gay men that would
- 22:22Speaker 1: be intrigued.
- 22:24Speaker 2: And straight women.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I don't know how many straight women want to see
- 22:27Speaker 1: your balls for money, but maybe I can, Dannel, what
- 22:30Speaker 1: are your thoughts. It's certainly possible, I mean.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Survey says, Survey says, Dan. How much money do you
- 22:36Speaker 2: drin get women out there?
- 22:38Speaker 1: I'm sure there's plenty of people who would want to
- 22:40Speaker 1: see Donald's balls.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 2: No, he's saying there's no women that want to see I'm.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Sure some women or people.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I'm sure no, no, no, he said, no women.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I'm sureing for ten bucks, there's women who'd be like,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm curious.
- 22:51Speaker 2: He said. He said, only gay men would want to
- 22:54Speaker 2: see my balls.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I'm sure there are women as well.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 1: But Daniel, do you think the biggest percentage of the
- 22:58Speaker 1: of the pie chart be would be gay men? I
- 23:01Speaker 1: think the biggest patriot would be a straight Scrubs fans man.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I mean, I mean I think the curiosity would probably
- 23:12Speaker 2: get them. Yeah, yeah, absolutely absolutely.
- 23:15Speaker 3: And you know, like like mid forties women who love clueless.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Probably thank you, thank you, thank you. Yes, I don't
- 23:23Speaker 2: know about gay men. I'm not sure. If I don't know,
- 23:27Speaker 2: what are you talking about? I wouldn't get gay. Man,
- 23:29Speaker 2: if you listen, if you're not into this, you don't,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you don't deserve it anyway. Then how about that. If
- 23:33Speaker 2: y'all ain't into this, then you don't deserve it. That's universal.
- 23:37Speaker 2: That's for everybody out there.
- 23:39Speaker 4: I'll tell the games.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I'll let them know.
- 23:42Speaker 1: All right now that we're back, that we've watched that.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I want to clarify something I didn't mean to get
- 23:48Speaker 1: you and your feelings about no one subscribing to your
- 23:51Speaker 1: only fan.
- 23:52Speaker 3: You said, no one would want to freaking subscribe.
- 23:56Speaker 1: No, here's what I mentioned, my only fan. Here's because
- 24:00Speaker 1: and dude, but too well, Joelle, he wasn't kidding. Casey
- 24:05Speaker 1: was like yo, yo. Donald got in his feelings about
- 24:08Speaker 1: what you said that no one would watch his only.
- 24:11Speaker 7: He said, I still have sexual powers, and I want
- 24:13Speaker 7: my best friend to acknowledge it.
- 24:15Speaker 1: No, listen, Donald, I want you to know I would subscribe.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I would watch the fun.
- 24:20Speaker 2: That's that's not what I'm asking for, all right, that's
- 24:22Speaker 2: not and I'm.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Sure listen, I don't know what I don't know, Joelle.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Do you think Let's ask Joelle a question, Joelle, do
- 24:31Speaker 1: you think straight women are subscribing to sexy men's only fans?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Is that something that straight women do.
- 24:43Speaker 7: I think in a far lower percentage ry than straight
- 24:47Speaker 7: or gay men.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I can't.
- 24:50Speaker 7: None of my friends to me that they subscribe to OnlyFans.
- 24:54Speaker 7: But I'm sure at least I.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Was saying to you, Donald, is what I was saying
- 24:59Speaker 1: to you, Donald, is I think that when I think
- 25:01Speaker 1: of OnlyFans, it's men watching women. I imagine gay men
- 25:05Speaker 1: watching men. I don't. I don't think of it as
- 25:09Speaker 1: a site, And I could be totally wrong. Where straight
- 25:12Speaker 1: women are going on to look at men beating off
- 25:14Speaker 1: or showing their balls or whatever.
- 25:18Speaker 2: But would they go to a site to watch a
- 25:20Speaker 2: straight man do stop motion animation?
- 25:23Speaker 1: No? Absolutely not, absolutely not.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I don't want you to disagree, homeboy, but I don't disagree, homeboy.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I just don't always want you to know that I
- 25:32Speaker 1: would watch.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Your own doing stop motion animation. Absolutely, somebody's watching.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I think I go back to what Michael. I think
- 25:42Speaker 1: nobody what Michael Uri said, and the bulk of the
- 25:46Speaker 1: subscribers would be curious Scrubs fans.
- 25:49Speaker 2: No, that was what Daniel said.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, Daniel said that. Yeah, straight Scrubs fans. I
- 25:55Speaker 1: don't want you. I don't want you to be in
- 25:56Speaker 1: your feelings about it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I would love anymore.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Are you guys are just assholes and don't know anything
- 26:01Speaker 3: about anything.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Casey said that. I was like, oh, Ship, what did
- 26:05Speaker 1: I say? And she was like, he's all upset in
- 26:08Speaker 1: his feelings that y'all wouldn't watch his only fans.
- 26:12Speaker 2: That's not that you wouldn't watch my only fantas that
- 26:14Speaker 2: you think that?
- 26:15Speaker 1: No one, Well, I think you've got to watch thinking that.
- 26:18Speaker 1: What I was saying was that women don't find you
- 26:20Speaker 1: attracted with.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You and then and then the gay man said, and
- 26:23Speaker 3: gay men don't find you attractive either.
- 26:25Speaker 1: No, no, no, I don't think that's what happened.
- 26:29Speaker 7: Bagir Energy Donald and I'm sure yeah, Donald.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Bear energy to come on and the Straight Scrubs fans.
- 26:36Speaker 1: If you're gay and you would like to watch Donald's
- 26:39Speaker 1: only fans, let us let us know, let us.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Send send the emails to Joel.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yes, actually, actually, why don't we have If you're a
- 26:48Speaker 1: gay person, who would who would subscribe to Donald Faison,
- 26:52Speaker 1: we'd love to have you on the show as a guest.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And Joelle, what's the email to have them, come on,
- 27:00Speaker 1: scrubs rubs right? Wait, can I get a guess? Absolutely,
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's not gonna be a We don't want to do
- 27:06Speaker 1: a whole hour with you. We would just like to
- 27:08Speaker 1: if you could send us a quick, thirty second video
- 27:11Speaker 1: letting us know what you would like to see on
- 27:14Speaker 1: Donald's only words with words, use your words, don't be shy,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and don't and don't censor yourself, Like, really, you would
- 27:23Speaker 1: like a guest who really can articulate what they'd like
- 27:25Speaker 1: to see.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Your clothes listen, don't go.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yes, yes, YouTube appropiate, but you can don't censor yourself.
- 27:35Speaker 1: If you're like, I want to see Donald fist himself
- 27:38Speaker 1: whatever it is, let us know.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:43Speaker 7: I was not prepared.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I know that my moms are long enough to do.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You don't know if you could fist yourself. You could
- 27:49Speaker 1: fist yourself if.
- 27:53Speaker 2: The money is right, If the money is right. I
- 27:55Speaker 2: don't know if you.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Could build the whole Star Wars universe in your garage,
- 28:04Speaker 1: but it would be my fist, right fist, Yeah, it's
- 28:06Speaker 1: your fist. It's not the guest fist unless that's what
- 28:09Speaker 1: the guest wants.
- 28:11Speaker 7: What have we got Brett in.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Here is Brett here? Yeah, all right, everybody, we have
- 28:16Speaker 1: Brett Goldstein on the program. He is the hottest star
- 28:20Speaker 1: of the moment. We're very lucky to have him. He's
- 28:22Speaker 1: a wonderful mention of a human being. Donald count Sen.
- 28:25Speaker 2: I've got many questions. Seven eight stories.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I'm not sure we made about a bunch of docs
- 28:34Speaker 1: and nurses.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I said, he's a story natural, so YadA around here,
- 28:44Speaker 2: yeada round here.
- 28:46Speaker 8: But oh under his applause, Daniel, ladies and gentlemen, the

- 29:13Speaker 2: let's get into it.
- 29:14Speaker 4: Listen.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Calm down.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I noticed that you've been lifting weights.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Calm down, Okay, Donald's very excited you're here, Brett, Brett.
- 29:21Speaker 1: That's These are our our support team, our producer Joe Well,
- 29:25Speaker 1: our engineer Daniel Hey.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Big big fan of of your work. I'm a big
- 29:30Speaker 4: fan of the podcast. I've been listening since the beginning.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Honored to do this. It's so nice and we've done.
- 29:38Speaker 1: It It's so nice to have you on the show
- 29:41Speaker 1: because we've been wanting to have you. We have so
- 29:43Speaker 1: many things to talk to you about. We don't even
- 29:45Speaker 1: know where to begin because we have so many questions
- 29:48Speaker 1: for you.
- 29:49Speaker 4: But can we talk listen, I want to start.
- 29:54Speaker 1: What do you want to talk about?
- 29:55Speaker 4: You can talk about my experience working We've donal because
- 29:59Speaker 4: it was one of my it was like my most
- 30:03Speaker 4: exciting first sort of time in Hollywood where I was like,
- 30:07Speaker 4: holy ship. I did this pilot with this how all
- 30:11Speaker 4: of this began as I did this pilot with Bill
- 30:14Speaker 4: Lawrence and it was called space.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Based out Yeah out, And I remember and it was
- 30:21Speaker 3: about going to Mars, about going to Mars.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Oh my god, Oh my god, Bill Lawrence. Everybody crashing
- 30:30Speaker 1: the podcast behind bred Goldstein really heard he can't hear
- 30:36Speaker 1: anything because he doesn't have he's doing finger countdown on
- 30:45Speaker 1: his fingers.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Phil, do we do we even have an opening?
- 30:50Speaker 4: Like a they're being so sorry. I realized, Okay, they're
- 30:58Speaker 4: very excited to see it, but they able to hear
- 30:59Speaker 4: me scream five.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you were able to hear that you're doing it
- 31:04Speaker 1: whenever I want.
- 31:05Speaker 4: For the rest of the interview, they said Brett.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Brett work in five up off, turn it off? Thank you,
- 31:26Speaker 1: all right, get him out of there, get him out
- 31:28Speaker 1: of there, Brett, all right, all right, so you guys,
- 31:32Speaker 1: thank you. Get him out of there. Breath. I I
- 31:36Speaker 1: don't want this. I don't want the audience to think
- 31:38Speaker 1: that Brett and Bill live together. Brett is currently writing
- 31:41Speaker 1: his show Shrinking with Bill, and they work in the
- 31:44Speaker 1: same office.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Okay, but we also do live together. So I so
- 31:50Speaker 4: I get Hi. I'm a big Scrubs fan. I got
- 31:53Speaker 4: hired to do this pilot and then Bill says, oh,
- 31:56Speaker 4: we're going to bring in Donald and I was like,
- 31:58Speaker 4: what the fuck?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember, I remember making that pilot. I remember
- 32:07Speaker 2: you being.
- 32:07Speaker 3: The sweetest person on the planet. You hugged a lot.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I remember you hugging me. Hug he is Brett is
- 32:18Speaker 3: a Brett is a great hugger.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Because he's very muscular. So when you hug him, you
- 32:22Speaker 1: get a lot of muscles in your hug.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I squeeze.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I like to see, were you always musk Were you
- 32:26Speaker 1: always a fit person? I don't mean in the British sense,
- 32:30Speaker 1: in the American sense? You were you always a muscular fellow?
- 32:34Speaker 1: Into ship into being in shape.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I always did. I always did push ups like us
- 32:39Speaker 4: in prison.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Mm hm, nice.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Let's go back. I want to go back to when
- 32:46Speaker 1: I met you, I Bred Goldstein. I met you on
- 32:53Speaker 1: a show called Ted Lasso. I was directing the second
- 32:56Speaker 1: episode of the series.
- 32:58Speaker 2: He's under s applause down.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it was called Biscuits. It was the one about
- 33:03Speaker 1: the biscuits. And I thought, I think our audience would
- 33:07Speaker 1: love to know this unique story about how you got cast, because,
- 33:10Speaker 1: for those of you who don't know, Brett was hired
- 33:12Speaker 1: by Bill because they had this relationship you just mentioned
- 33:14Speaker 1: as a writer on Ted last. So Bill really thought
- 33:18Speaker 1: Brett was very talented as a writer, and he wanted
- 33:21Speaker 1: obviously some English perspective on the story. So Brett, tell us,
- 33:26Speaker 1: how tell the audience how that happened? Because you were
- 33:29Speaker 1: not in any way up for the part of Roy Kent,
- 33:33Speaker 1: and you did something that I think is really courageous
- 33:35Speaker 1: and ballsy and an inspiration to other creative people out there.
- 33:41Speaker 4: What happened was we were writing the show and I
- 33:44Speaker 4: sort of secretly thought about episode five, randomisode five. I
- 33:49Speaker 4: was like, oh, I think I know Roy Kent. I
- 33:51Speaker 4: know what I really felt a cooling, like I think
- 33:55Speaker 4: I'm meant to be Roy Kent, but I also know
- 33:57Speaker 4: no one's thinking of me for this, and it is
- 33:59Speaker 4: an embarrassing thing to ask in the writer's room, and
- 34:02Speaker 4: if I ask to even audition, it's going to make
- 34:05Speaker 4: everyone uncomfortable. Whatever's going to feel embarrassed and awkward because
- 34:08Speaker 4: also no one's thinking of me in this way. So
- 34:10Speaker 4: when we finished the writers room, I did a self tape.
- 34:13Speaker 4: I filmed five scenes and I was flying back to
- 34:16Speaker 4: England and I emailed Bill and I said, look, I
- 34:21Speaker 4: secretly think I could be Roy Kent, but I know
- 34:24Speaker 4: this is really awkward. Here's a tape. If it's shit,
- 34:27Speaker 4: pretend you never got it. I will never ask you
- 34:29Speaker 4: about it. This is between us. But if it's good
- 34:35Speaker 4: here at Peguy. And when I landed in London, I
- 34:39Speaker 4: had an email from Bill saying this.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Is fucking brilliant and oh my god. It was very exciting,
- 34:45Speaker 1: very but that was so that was so vulnerable and
- 34:48Speaker 1: ballsy of you, because you know it could have gone
- 34:51Speaker 1: the other way where he was like, oh great, and
- 34:53Speaker 1: then you then somebody else gets the part and you're
- 34:56Speaker 1: there and you feel like you put yourself out there,
- 34:58Speaker 1: but it didn't pay off.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Well, well, it was like, what's the worst case. The
- 35:02Speaker 4: worst cause scenario is the worst guy scenario because I
- 35:05Speaker 4: thought it for it is that he feels so uncomfortable
- 35:08Speaker 4: that if there's a season two I don't get asked
- 35:11Speaker 4: back to write on it because he doesn't want to
- 35:13Speaker 4: ever see me again. Yeah, that was the worst case.
- 35:17Speaker 4: But then on the other hand, I always think of
- 35:20Speaker 4: these things, well, have you got to lose? It doesn't matter,
- 35:22Speaker 4: nothing matters. It may as well, you know what I mean.
- 35:25Speaker 1: But that attitude, which I think is an inspiration to
- 35:28Speaker 1: people out there listening, whether they're going to make that
- 35:30Speaker 1: courageous choice or not, changed your entire life. I mean,
- 35:35Speaker 1: the decision of you to really send on that email
- 35:38Speaker 1: which was ballsy and which was vulnerable, and which was
- 35:41Speaker 1: courageous and to chutzpah changed your entire life, which I
- 35:45Speaker 1: just think is so inspirational on the people.
- 35:48Speaker 4: I mean, you don't know, you didn't. I didn't know that.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Like I said, that's the other thing. Is the reality, true, true,
- 35:54Speaker 4: true reality. I've made loads of stuff, I've made this pilot,
- 35:57Speaker 4: We've done it honestly, honestly, the pilot that me and
- 36:00Speaker 4: did was brilliant, Like I thought that was going to
- 36:03Speaker 4: be Remember when we like it was.
- 36:05Speaker 3: We got close. Yeah, we got so close. It was
- 36:08Speaker 3: on the bubble of it looked like it was going
- 36:10Speaker 3: to go.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I mean Rubin.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Directed it too, you know it was. And we had
- 36:17Speaker 3: Rubin directing, bill writing, and then the cast was like
- 36:22Speaker 3: a bunch of young comedian type uh uh sketch so
- 36:29Speaker 3: funny like some of yes, some of the guys were
- 36:32Speaker 3: influencers and stuff, and we're doing things online and stuff
- 36:34Speaker 3: like that.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Like it was really ahead of its time, and I
- 36:38Speaker 2: thought it was going to go. Man, it was like
- 36:39Speaker 2: scrubs and space to keep it one hundred with you, scrubs.
- 36:42Speaker 4: And nastas and scrubs in a rocket factory. And when
- 36:46Speaker 4: we remember when on that last day we filmed over
- 36:48Speaker 4: a week and on the last day, I remember side
- 36:50Speaker 4: the city because I was like, I guess.
- 36:52Speaker 2: This is it.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Boys definitely shook my hand and he said see you
- 36:56Speaker 4: in August because we're going to be making this thing.
- 36:58Speaker 4: And I went back to England, you know, pack it
- 37:01Speaker 4: up my house. I guess I'm moving to Hollywood. Baby.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I never know, You never know.
- 37:08Speaker 4: So my point is when I did the boy Ken thing,
- 37:10Speaker 4: there wasn't a part of me if if you put
- 37:12Speaker 4: all the pressure on of like this is the life change.
- 37:15Speaker 4: It was like by that stage, I didn't think anything
- 37:18Speaker 4: was going to happen, as in I thought would make
- 37:20Speaker 4: a good show and no one would see it. Well
- 37:22Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like I didn't expect.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I just think it's good to have the balls and
- 37:27Speaker 1: the courage to try. I wrote, I don't know, you
- 37:30Speaker 1: don't know this story, Brett, but the audience I've told
- 37:32Speaker 1: this story, but I'll tell it quickly. I wrote a
- 37:35Speaker 1: first season of Scrubs. I wrote a spec script for scrub.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Do you know the story? You know the story.
- 37:40Speaker 4: It's one of my favorite stories.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I'll tell it quickly for audience that doesn't know the story.
- 37:45Speaker 1: But I had such balls, I had such courage. I
- 37:47Speaker 1: had such I did such I don't know.
- 37:51Speaker 2: You were a naive man, but.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I was also no but I was very driven. I
- 37:57Speaker 1: didn't pay off. I didn't pay off that day, but
- 38:00Speaker 1: it would pay off in other ways throughout the course
- 38:02Speaker 1: of my career. But I wrote a whole episode of Scrubs,
- 38:05Speaker 1: and I had the balls to give it to Bill
- 38:07Speaker 1: and go, I would really like to write an episode
- 38:09Speaker 1: of the show.
- 38:09Speaker 8: Mind you.
- 38:10Speaker 1: This is season one and.
- 38:12Speaker 2: So three bro. Yes, it was. It was pretty early.
- 38:18Speaker 2: It was pretty No, you know what it couldn't been.
- 38:20Speaker 4: It wasn't.
- 38:22Speaker 1: It wasn't but uh. I gave it to Bill and
- 38:27Speaker 1: he this is non exaggeration. It's gonna sound like the
- 38:31Speaker 1: cartoon movie version of this.
- 38:33Speaker 2: A p A.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I gave it to Bill, and a PA brought it
- 38:36Speaker 1: to me the next morning and said, hey, I found
- 38:41Speaker 1: this on the in the parking lot and it's got
- 38:44Speaker 1: your name on it, and it had a tire track
- 38:46Speaker 1: over the title page of the of the screen and
- 38:54Speaker 1: Bill Bill Bill claims that he must have left it
- 38:58Speaker 1: on the rumor's car because he drove over it.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I think he was making a point. I think Bill
- 39:04Speaker 3: loves you so much. I think Bill put the tire
- 39:08Speaker 3: mark over it. No, he did, and freaking I mean.
- 39:11Speaker 1: He read it. He ultimately.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I think he read it and said, wow, really cool.
- 39:16Speaker 3: This kid's got fucking huge balls. I got to teach
- 39:20Speaker 3: him a lesson.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think he purposely drove over it.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I think he It shows how he felt about it. Like, oh,
- 39:27Speaker 1: this fucking kid, and then forgot it on his roof.
- 39:31Speaker 1: But he did ultimately read it and he gave me
- 39:32Speaker 1: notes on it, so and then, and you know, it
- 39:34Speaker 1: did lay some foundation for what was to come, but
- 39:38Speaker 1: he wasn't ready to take me seriously at that point
- 39:43Speaker 1: as a writer.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I mean, some of the best stories are when people
- 39:47Speaker 3: take control of their destiny and take a leap, you know.
- 39:52Speaker 2: I think that's.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yes, that's what I'm trying to highlight about Brett Goldstein.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I say that ship, then, man, your dad around it, like, yo,
- 40:01Speaker 2: you got balls, Brett, that's the dopest ship we've heard
- 40:04Speaker 2: man to take.
- 40:06Speaker 3: To take a page out of out of Zach's book,
- 40:10Speaker 3: out of all of the really dope creators, you did
- 40:14Speaker 3: something that we all admire, and that is you took
- 40:18Speaker 3: control of your destiny and fucking made something happens.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Thank you very much, Thank you.
- 40:25Speaker 1: And I just think that's I think that's an inspiration. Now,
- 40:29Speaker 1: how did Jason? You know, Jason was your another co
- 40:32Speaker 1: creator and and you obviously you dipped your toe in
- 40:35Speaker 1: the water with Bill. How did Jason? I mean obviously
- 40:38Speaker 1: he loved it too, or he wouldn't have cast you
- 40:40Speaker 1: but how did they go with Jason?
- 40:42Speaker 2: Oh?
- 40:42Speaker 4: Well, I believe because I wasn't there then because I
- 40:44Speaker 4: was backing on this, so I believe. Then Bill took
- 40:47Speaker 4: it to Jason, and then Jason liked it, and then
- 40:50Speaker 4: they showed all the writers in the writer's room. They
- 40:54Speaker 4: went are we wrong?
- 40:55Speaker 1: Is this good?
- 40:58Speaker 4: And then I had to and then got said to
- 41:00Speaker 4: Apple and the thing that was the truth is that
- 41:03Speaker 4: I forget this bit. Is that actually the self tape
- 41:07Speaker 4: I've done, You know, if you like, My managers have
- 41:11Speaker 4: like a self tape room in their office. So I've
- 41:13Speaker 4: just gone to their office and they will have a
- 41:16Speaker 4: whoever's like an intern, they will have an intern read
- 41:19Speaker 4: in with you. But the intern that they had was
- 41:22Speaker 4: this Swedish guy. So I was doing my scenes with
- 41:25Speaker 4: Keeley the off camera was a Swedish man doing so
- 41:32Speaker 4: Apple eventually asked, just in case, could you do it
- 41:35Speaker 4: with a woman, just to see this sounds right? So
- 41:37Speaker 4: I had to redo it.
- 41:39Speaker 1: I always think that's important to tell actors that I
- 41:41Speaker 1: know it's not always possible, but try and try and
- 41:43Speaker 1: read with someone who's at least a decent actor or
- 41:48Speaker 1: an ideally the right sex.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Don't do it with your.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Wife though, well, really, isn't your wife now?
- 41:55Speaker 3: My wife tries to support me, and all I get is,
- 41:57Speaker 3: you're gonna do it like that.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Oh, that's your unique situation. I just think it's when
- 42:04Speaker 1: when I when I as a director, when I watch
- 42:06Speaker 1: tapes and the person off camera is like, but there's
- 42:08Speaker 1: a fire in the house and we need to get
- 42:10Speaker 1: out as soon as possible. It's very distracting, and you're like,
- 42:14Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you can't avoid it because that's all
- 42:16Speaker 1: you got.
- 42:16Speaker 4: But but sometimes, you know, when you watch celtices, you
- 42:20Speaker 4: know when the person off camera wants apart, when they're
- 42:23Speaker 4: really when they're like you can hear them cry really,
- 42:28Speaker 4: and you're like, we know what you do. I was ahead, No,
- 42:35Speaker 4: I was just making observation as a fan of the podcast.
- 42:37Speaker 4: I've never seen it, and I just Joel, do you
- 42:41Speaker 4: do you look so lovingly at the screen at all times?
- 42:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Joel's our supports system. She's like a big hug.
- 42:47Speaker 1: She just supports us so comfortable, and then she only
- 42:50Speaker 1: she only pipes in when we've said something inappropriate that
- 42:53Speaker 1: we need.
- 42:53Speaker 2: That's not true, that's not true.
- 42:55Speaker 4: You really you really look like you you really if
- 42:58Speaker 4: I may say, you really like you love these guys.
- 43:10Speaker 1: We love Joel. We couldn't make the show without her.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Bro she makes the whole thing run.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Look, Daniel and Joel when we first started this show,
- 43:18Speaker 3: they were not supposed to be on the show. They
- 43:21Speaker 3: were just supposed to be producers. And we just had
- 43:26Speaker 3: so much fun talking to them. And also it was
- 43:28Speaker 3: during COVID and everything like that, so it like kind
- 43:30Speaker 3: of forced us all to really express what we were
- 43:33Speaker 3: going through and you know, what what our lives were
- 43:36Speaker 3: like at that moment, and it just made for good podcasts.
- 43:40Speaker 2: I can't see the podcast without them. Now.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Well, we just enjoy talking to them so much, and
- 43:46Speaker 1: we're a family here, so we we love having them
- 43:48Speaker 1: be a part of it. Even though Daniel's probably off
- 43:50Speaker 1: camera playing a video game right now. They played they
- 43:56Speaker 1: played the Twitch Yeah, Zach.
- 44:00Speaker 4: You Then Zach then directed to Lasso and I was
- 44:03Speaker 4: a very big fan of Scrubs and I was really
- 44:06Speaker 4: nervous of meeting Zach as I was when I met
- 44:09Speaker 4: you Donald and Zach. I didn't realize it was very
- 44:14Speaker 4: very charming. It's very tall and very charming and very charismatic,
- 44:18Speaker 4: like in real life he's like you sort of, he's
- 44:21Speaker 4: very impressive, he's about very charming, and we're in the
- 44:26Speaker 4: middle of nowhere in England in this sort of quite
- 44:29Speaker 4: it's not like very nice where we filmed Richmond, and
- 44:32Speaker 4: it was like here comes Hollywood talking and we were
- 44:35Speaker 4: all all of us, the whole cast, were quite like,
- 44:38Speaker 4: we're really self conscious because we were doing read through
- 44:40Speaker 4: it's like read through episodes and suddenly there's fucking Zach
- 44:44Speaker 4: Braff from Scrubs and Garden State and everyone, all of
- 44:47Speaker 4: the cast kept nudging each other like's you is it?
- 44:50Speaker 4: And how are we going to work with this guy?
- 44:54Speaker 1: It was that's very it's very sweet of you say.
- 44:58Speaker 1: But I I met this cat asked who you know
- 45:03Speaker 1: became global sensations.
- 45:05Speaker 2: About to say, did you know when you met this
- 45:06Speaker 2: cast like this get any monster?
- 45:10Speaker 1: I really didn't. I thought, listen, you have to understand
- 45:13Speaker 1: that other than Jason, no one was a household name.
- 45:19Speaker 1: And I thought that it was very funny. I thought
- 45:23Speaker 1: they were all super talented. I thought the show was good.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I I just didn't have any any guests at the
- 45:31Speaker 1: audience for it. I thought, you know, people who love
- 45:33Speaker 1: soccer will love this Obviously, Jason's hilarious and he's got
- 45:37Speaker 1: a huge fan base. But and I was really proud
- 45:41Speaker 1: of the way that episode came out. I thought it
- 45:43Speaker 1: was really special and and and and it had the
- 45:46Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence special, which is you're laughing and then it
- 45:49Speaker 1: breaks your heart a little. But I would never have
- 45:54Speaker 1: guessed that ted Lassa would become the global sensation that
- 45:58Speaker 1: it became.
- 45:59Speaker 3: But when you look at it now, it really was
- 46:03Speaker 3: not only to jump off for all of the cast members,
- 46:05Speaker 3: like everybody's gone on to do great things and stuff,
- 46:09Speaker 3: but it's also like Ryan Reynolds and his partner, they
- 46:13Speaker 3: kind of owe you guys a fucking a hat or something, man,
- 46:19Speaker 3: because like they took the they took the sensation, the
- 46:23Speaker 3: global sensation that Ted last one. People who had never
- 46:26Speaker 3: watched soccer in their or sorry, football in their life
- 46:30Speaker 3: were all of a sudden watching We're watching it and
- 46:34Speaker 3: trying to understand it because they loved the characters on
- 46:37Speaker 3: ted Lasso and Ryan and his partner. They took that
- 46:41Speaker 3: momentum and that motherfucker is rich.
- 46:44Speaker 2: He is a wealthy motherfucker now because of it.
- 46:47Speaker 1: I don't think that's I don't think I don't think
- 46:49Speaker 1: it's the only thing that's made him very ready.
- 46:51Speaker 2: But that thing has. He was doing fine without it, sure,
- 46:54Speaker 2: I'm sure, but that thing has.
- 46:57Speaker 1: So Brett so tell us about like, so we're shooting
- 47:00Speaker 1: this little thing, and he's right, it's you know, the
- 47:02Speaker 1: sound stages aren't fancy. It's a it's a bit of
- 47:05Speaker 1: a there was nothing glamorous about the shoot.
- 47:09Speaker 4: I also episode two you because Zach invented a camera.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I don't know if this is boring, but part of
- 47:17Speaker 4: the way the ted lights it looks is defined by
- 47:19Speaker 4: Zach Braff because O thank you. It was the episode
- 47:22Speaker 4: two is the first time you see a football scene.
- 47:25Speaker 4: And we were told suddenly on the day, oh, you're
- 47:27Speaker 4: not allowed to put any equipment on the pitch. And
- 47:30Speaker 4: it was like, oh shit. So Zach built a rig
- 47:35Speaker 4: with some of the guys that's these giants with the.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Grip, with the key grip and and the DP. We
- 47:41Speaker 1: had to come up with a unique way to shoot
- 47:43Speaker 1: the soccer because they they the field is so special
- 47:47Speaker 1: and that the pitch as they call it. That the
- 47:49Speaker 1: greensmen were like, you're not putting any gear on this?
- 47:52Speaker 1: What the hell you think? And and soccer moved so
- 47:55Speaker 1: fast that you couldn't have some of the traditional ways
- 47:57Speaker 1: we would have shot something, and normally here in the
- 47:59Speaker 1: stage probably we'd use an electric card of some kind
- 48:02Speaker 1: or something. Anyway, so we came up with this rig
- 48:05Speaker 1: that had these big tires and it was a remote
- 48:07Speaker 1: head so the DP could operate it from the side,
- 48:10Speaker 1: and it was really fun and it was like a
- 48:13Speaker 1: unique assignment for this particular show, and then it became
- 48:16Speaker 1: one of the main tools they used to shoot the.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Same thing season three. Yeah, and it's literally a guy
- 48:22Speaker 4: like with a sort of what do you call it? Wheelbarrow?
- 48:26Speaker 1: Well, what's cool is the run they run. It became
- 48:29Speaker 1: I can see a picture of it because I haven't
- 48:30Speaker 1: saved in my favorites because it's a it's a favorite.
- 48:33Speaker 1: But they the grips would then put on soccer cleats
- 48:37Speaker 1: and run with it so that they because obviously that
- 48:40Speaker 1: was allowed, and then it would enable it would enable
- 48:43Speaker 1: us to get amazing shots and was completely remote. The
- 48:46Speaker 1: head of the camera was completely remote controlled from the
- 48:49Speaker 1: from the side. You invented this bro Well, we have
- 48:52Speaker 1: a key grip. I don't want to take full credit
- 48:54Speaker 1: with the hold on. I'm trying to get focus for y'all.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Hold on, you are, yeah, man, you are a part
- 49:03Speaker 2: of u uh cinematic history.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Well, if there's a special award, I'll take it.
- 49:12Speaker 2: That's pretty dope this, especially if it's was used after
- 49:16Speaker 2: you left.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they used it the whole run of the show.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Interesting, do they still use it on other shows?
- 49:21Speaker 1: Well, if anyone is shooting on a pitch in England
- 49:25Speaker 1: and needs our help, please contact the show and we'll
- 49:28Speaker 1: help you build.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Did they use it on like Game Time or whatever?
- 49:31Speaker 2: That ship was winning time or.
- 49:35Speaker 1: I wasn't on a football field.
- 49:37Speaker 2: Ye, let's take a break.
- 49:39Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words, all right, Brett,
- 49:49Speaker 1: So what I want to talk about is, so you
- 49:51Speaker 1: shoot season one and you feel good about it, then
- 49:57Speaker 1: when does it start to This is during COVID right
- 50:00Speaker 1: when did When did it did? It wasn't an instant hit?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Am I Am? I rain?
- 50:05Speaker 4: No, it was a slow it was how did you
- 50:07Speaker 4: roll out?
- 50:07Speaker 1: How did you start to feel that it was catching on?
- 50:11Speaker 4: It was sort of like I've talked about this before,
- 50:13Speaker 4: But the thing I think is interesting about ted LASSA
- 50:16Speaker 4: and its success is that I don't think there is
- 50:18Speaker 4: anything to be learned from it, as in I don't
- 50:20Speaker 4: think you can. You know how Hollywood always tries to
- 50:23Speaker 4: repeat They were like, well Ted Lasser works and we
- 50:26Speaker 4: should do that. But it's like I think it's kind
- 50:28Speaker 4: of a miracle, like as in it it didn't have
- 50:33Speaker 4: huge marketing behind it. I don't think it didn't have
- 50:37Speaker 4: It was on a new stream. Apple TV was very new,
- 50:41Speaker 4: so it wasn't like everyone had it and it was
- 50:43Speaker 4: just everywhere. It was like you had to make an
- 50:46Speaker 4: effort to find it, and it came out and it
- 50:50Speaker 4: just slowly. But it was a genuine word of mouth hit,
- 50:53Speaker 4: which is rare. It wasn't you know, pushed by It
- 50:59Speaker 4: was people who made that a hit, and there's no
- 51:02Speaker 4: nothing you can replicate about that. It just happened to
- 51:05Speaker 4: touch people at the right time. And people say, maybe
- 51:08Speaker 4: it was because of COVID and maybe at the time
- 51:11Speaker 4: the political landscape, all the reasons you can think of,
- 51:13Speaker 4: but there were so many other shows that exist at
- 51:17Speaker 4: that time, and it's just out of a you know, like.
- 51:23Speaker 2: I think it was. I looked at it as a
- 51:26Speaker 2: huge hit when it started.
- 51:27Speaker 3: I felt like it launched Apple TV kind of also
- 51:30Speaker 3: like didn't it help Apple TV all of a sudden because.
- 51:35Speaker 1: By far ever still like.
- 51:39Speaker 3: I remember, I remember, I remember somebody saying, you watching
- 51:44Speaker 3: Ted Last, So I was like, you know, my my
- 51:46Speaker 3: my old boss he created the show with and they
- 51:50Speaker 3: were like, well, have you watched it? I was like,
- 51:51Speaker 3: I haven't watched it. I don't watch much TV. And
- 51:54Speaker 3: they were like, yo, you should watch it. And then
- 51:56Speaker 3: I remember being so stuck on that fucking show, like
- 52:00Speaker 3: I watched every episode from season one to season three.
- 52:06Speaker 3: That's shit, like it was. It was one of those things.
- 52:09Speaker 3: And the great thing was that I knew you also,
- 52:11Speaker 3: and it was like, wow, look at.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Fucking Brent dude.
- 52:15Speaker 3: This dude was fucking flying back to fucking England, wherever
- 52:19Speaker 3: the fuck you, wherever you live, you were flying back
- 52:22Speaker 3: like you know, well this is it, Well i'll.
- 52:25Speaker 5: See you soon.
- 52:27Speaker 2: And I didn't see you for years, and all of
- 52:31Speaker 2: a sudden, he's on Ted Last Morning.
- 52:32Speaker 3: It's a fucking hit, and he's good on it too,
- 52:36Speaker 3: and not only not only is it a hit, he's
- 52:37Speaker 3: fucking good.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden, that fucking you know,
- 52:41Speaker 2: you know, things start happening when you're good, things start
- 52:44Speaker 2: happening people start talking when you're good, and it was
- 52:46Speaker 2: just so good to see.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Well, and not only I felt like it was a hug,
- 52:50Speaker 1: you know, everyone was so down and COVID was so horrible,
- 52:54Speaker 1: and it just felt wholesome, and it felt like maybe
- 52:57Speaker 1: the world would not have been so open to something
- 53:00Speaker 1: so wholesome and sentimental if it weren't for those conditions.
- 53:05Speaker 1: Who knows, but I do feel like I do feel
- 53:07Speaker 1: like the culture around the earth was ready for what
- 53:11Speaker 1: ted Lasso was serving.
- 53:14Speaker 4: Yeah, And there's something I think. What's funny about ted Lasso,
- 53:18Speaker 4: and I think about it is that people feel about
- 53:22Speaker 4: it like it's a really wholesome show and that it's
- 53:26Speaker 4: sort of kind and it's a warm hug and all
- 53:28Speaker 4: these things. And what's interesting about it is it's also
- 53:32Speaker 4: a show that has so much wearing in it. It's
- 53:35Speaker 4: got so much darkness in it. It's got severe mental
- 53:39Speaker 4: health problems in it, Like it's there's actually for a
- 53:44Speaker 4: show that I think people watch with their families and
- 53:47Speaker 4: people talk about it like it's a family show, and
- 53:49Speaker 4: I think it is. But what's unusual about it is
- 53:52Speaker 4: that I say fuck every other word, and there's a
- 53:55Speaker 4: cunny lingers scene, and there's you.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Know, I think people get over that though, because of
- 54:00Speaker 1: because of the overall, because it feels it just feels
- 54:03Speaker 1: like it feels like Rudy every week.
- 54:06Speaker 4: You know, that's nice.
- 54:09Speaker 1: I remember crying. You were so good in that scene.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I think it's the end of season one when you're
- 54:15Speaker 1: in the locker room and Keely comes in and you're like,
- 54:18Speaker 1: don't come in here. I just thought that your performance
- 54:22Speaker 1: was so wonderful, and I remember I remember crying and
- 54:25Speaker 1: being like, this motherfucker got me.
- 54:27Speaker 4: You were very nice, well coming, saying nice things about
- 54:29Speaker 4: you instead.
- 54:30Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no no, Brad, you came on
- 54:32Speaker 2: this podcast. Come on you. We're not on your show,
- 54:35Speaker 2: You're on ours.
- 54:36Speaker 1: This is how it works, Bratt.
- 54:37Speaker 4: You won the Emmy.
- 54:38Speaker 1: You won the Emmy for season one? Did you not?
- 54:40Speaker 4: I did?
- 54:41Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 54:41Speaker 1: And did you win the Emmy for season two?
- 54:43Speaker 4: I did?
- 54:44Speaker 2: And did you? And Tony shalout that motherfucker?
- 54:47Speaker 1: And did you win the Emmy for season three?
- 54:49Speaker 8: I did? Know?
- 54:50Speaker 1: Okay, Well, two in a row is pretty damn good.
- 54:53Speaker 2: So you didn't, Tony Shalu?
- 54:54Speaker 1: Where'd your camera go? Donald?
- 54:56Speaker 2: I'm trying to fix it now, Hold on he's mad about.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Yeah, wh two Emmys in a row is a pretty
- 55:03Speaker 1: big deal and you, especially when you consider all the
- 55:07Speaker 1: extreme talent that you're up against, it's it's quite a
- 55:09Speaker 1: quite a statement about you.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Three would have been better.
- 55:13Speaker 4: But I think if you do three then people start
- 55:16Speaker 4: to hate you. It's probably for the best.
- 55:18Speaker 3: Three they're start no doubt and then you can't be Wait,
- 55:22Speaker 3: but then you can't be Hercules if you get three.
- 55:24Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, can you talk about before we go to
- 55:29Speaker 1: before we go to Hercules, Let's just finish the ted
- 55:32Speaker 1: last thing out because I'm sure, I'm I'm pretty confident
- 55:36Speaker 1: that I know what you're going to say, but I'm
- 55:38Speaker 1: sure people listening will want to know. There's rumors of
- 55:42Speaker 1: season four? Is anything? Is there anything you can say? Well,
- 55:48Speaker 1: you can you at least say that you'll be a
- 55:49Speaker 1: part of that or is there absolutely nothing you can say?
- 55:53Speaker 4: I can't say anything. I've had the same room as
- 55:55Speaker 4: you've had, I read the same press series.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Okay, I knew you were gonna be I knew you're
- 56:04Speaker 1: gonna be cryptic, but I had to ask for the
- 56:05Speaker 1: fans because I'm a good host.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Brett, but he's not.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Gonna be cryptic about Hercules.
- 56:10Speaker 1: I have a feeling he'll be cryptic about Hercules as well, Brett,
- 56:14Speaker 1: for those for those people who care about Hercules, will
- 56:16Speaker 1: you give them some sentences about Hercules. Some people care
- 56:19Speaker 1: about that, like.
- 56:20Speaker 4: I have nothing to Secret Wars.
- 56:22Speaker 3: It's important Secret Wars. I know you've gotten the call
- 56:26Speaker 3: from Figy. I know he called you because Hercules is
- 56:29Speaker 3: a big, big, big, big big part of that.
- 56:32Speaker 1: What you can say, Brett is that what you can
- 56:34Speaker 1: say is that how good you are keeping a secret?
- 56:37Speaker 1: I read that that little I should say. For those
- 56:39Speaker 1: people who aren't mega Marvel fans, Brett did a credits
- 56:43Speaker 1: scene in which Marvel movie Thunder and thor Love and
- 56:47Speaker 1: Thunder where he was gonna play Hercules, and so people
- 56:51Speaker 1: like Donald who are very into this are like, when
- 56:54Speaker 1: is Hercules coming?
- 56:55Speaker 2: He has to come soon.
- 56:56Speaker 3: It has to be Secret Wars or before, because I mean, sorry,
- 57:00Speaker 3: this is a very big important part of the Secret
- 57:03Speaker 3: Wars uh.
- 57:05Speaker 5: War.
- 57:07Speaker 2: Like Eddie Murphy in the movie, I'm trying to get
- 57:10Speaker 2: real dirty on you.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Know what's Eddie Murphy. Yeah, you look like Figure right now.
- 57:14Speaker 2: You're doing great.
- 57:20Speaker 4: Nothing to report on that case. I'm afraid and kept that.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Well.
- 57:24Speaker 1: You can talk about is how you managed to keep
- 57:25Speaker 1: that secret from everyone, including your mom.
- 57:28Speaker 4: I read, Oh yeah, that's true. I have told that
- 57:32Speaker 4: story before, but not all.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Of our listeners listen to every interview you do, Bro.
- 57:36Speaker 4: No, no, no, But I just always want to preface
- 57:39Speaker 4: it in case people are like, oh, yeah, fucking know
- 57:41Speaker 4: this again.
- 57:42Speaker 1: But one thing you have to learn is that, uh,
- 57:45Speaker 1: you know, our audience hasn't necessarily heard every bread golds
- 57:50Speaker 1: the interview, some of them, some of them have seen
- 57:52Speaker 1: them all. I'm sure I'm furious to discover.
- 57:58Speaker 8: This.
- 57:59Speaker 1: How did you How did you keep it in your mom?
- 58:02Speaker 4: I'll tell you what I well, because they I'll tell
- 58:04Speaker 4: you how because they make it so scary when when
- 58:10Speaker 4: I went to film it, when you God, I probably
- 58:13Speaker 4: can't even say.
- 58:14Speaker 1: This man.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Because he signed that n d A.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Bro. I think everybody knows.
- 58:23Speaker 4: But what they what I will say is the Marvel
- 58:26Speaker 4: security certainly make it sound like if you speak you
- 58:32Speaker 4: will be killed.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Why Kevin Faggy himself, that would be the worst day ever.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Figgy just shows up at your house and he's like,
- 58:42Speaker 2: you know why I'm here, and you know what this means?
- 58:46Speaker 1: There's this new show Franchise. Have you seen any of that?
- 58:49Speaker 4: Bro? Yes, I saw the first episode. It's great.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Donald. You know, Donald, you don't watch things. But it's
- 58:54Speaker 1: about behind the scenes of the making of a of
- 58:56Speaker 1: a superhero movie, and it's from the perspective of the
- 58:59Speaker 1: first ad and all the mayhem that goes on behind
- 59:02Speaker 1: the scenes. It's pretty funny.
- 59:03Speaker 2: I would like to watch that show Franchise.
- 59:06Speaker 4: It's on Branchise. Can we oh, yeah, yeah, what do
- 59:09Speaker 4: you want? Yeah? So basically, so I did this this
- 59:12Speaker 4: hecles thing, and I text my mom because sometimes I'll
- 59:18Speaker 4: recommend to my mom and dad films. They don't go
- 59:20Speaker 4: a lot to cinema, but there's stuff I know they're like,
- 59:22Speaker 4: and I'll go, you should see this film is really good.
- 59:24Speaker 4: And I text my mom and I go, I know
- 59:26Speaker 4: it's not normally your sort of thing, but you should
- 59:30Speaker 4: go and see thor Love and Thunder. I saw it.
- 59:33Speaker 4: It's really funny. I think you'd find it really funny.
- 59:36Speaker 4: And she goes, I don't know if that's for us,
- 59:38Speaker 4: and I go, no, trust me, I feel like I
- 59:41Speaker 4: feel like this is a good one, and she goes.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I watched the trailer and I don't think it's so
- 59:46Speaker 4: I go, you know, I love films, like I wouldn't
- 59:49Speaker 4: send you something I didn't think you did joy and
- 59:50Speaker 4: they go. She goes, o'h fine, So they go and
- 59:53Speaker 4: see Thor. She's texting me through the film and she's
- 59:58Speaker 4: sort of going, oh, Russell Crows and I go, I go, mom,
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: turn off your phone. You're at the cinema. And then
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: she text me a few more times. This is quite entertaining.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: I go, yes, well, why are you texting me? Anyway?
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: So I'm in the credits. So it gets to the end,
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: so it's now the end. She texts me, well, that
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: was fun credits and then she goes, oh, because what
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: happens at the very end Russell Crowe appears and then
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: it pans around it it's me and she goes, oh,
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Russell Crow's back, and I and I'm thinking she's going
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: to fucking miss me. She's looking down at her phone
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: and I and I look at the fucking screen. And
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: then seconds later she wrote, she writes, what, that's amazing.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Thank god she didn't message.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: I mean, it's like she's going to look down and
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: I don't even know what you said it to that.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: So now I want to pivot to shrinking.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: You get let's talk about your directing.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Well, well we can, but I want to talk about
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: this amazing show that what's horrible?
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: Just do you say nice things make me come to
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: I mean they just making me sweat?
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Okay, well that's something you should work on in therapy.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: But English people don't go to therapy either, right.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: Okay, carry on, carry on.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: So you create this brilliant show Shrinking with Bill Lawrence
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: and Jason Siegel? How did it come about? How did that?
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Obviously at this point, we know Bill loves your writing,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: we know that he wants to work with Jason. How
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: did How did Shrinking get born?
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Shrinking happened because Bill and I were talking a lot
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: and hanging out, and he said we should I'd like
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: to do something else with you. And he said have
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: you Is there anything you've been working on? And I
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: told him I had this treatment for a show that
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: was about a therapist, but it was about grief, but
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: it was a much darker version of what shrinking ends
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: up being. And then he said, that's interesting. I have
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: a similar thing, but it's a different tone, and his
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: thing was much lighter and the more we talked about
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: it was like, actually, if you put these two together,
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: the middle ground is shrinking, and that is actually the
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: best version of this show. And so that's sort of
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: what happened. And then we we wanted Jason always because
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: he was just because Jason Seagle is the perfect man
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: for it, because he is he has that thing where
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: you just love him, so he can be a bit
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: of a dick. You can write a character that makes
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: mistakes and does bad things, and you can push it
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: quite far because you're always going to love Jason Seagule,
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: I think. And we got on a zoom with Jason
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: and we pitched him the show. And I had a
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: Muppets poster his movie behind me because I genuinely.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Had that on my will and I genuinely love the
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Muppets and I genuinely love.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: His movie.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Songs. You know, life's happy song when there's someone by
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: your side to sing along. Yeah, I walked down the
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: aisle to that. I've got everything that I need right
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: in front of it, no stopping, nothing, I can't be.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: It wasn't next to me, and it was sung by
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: a gospel choir.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Yeah, life happy song, Life, life fishes.
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: Yes, it is yes, it is.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Someone that had life. Oh man. I used to listen
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: to that ship, like, if you got.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: A video that goes I can't believe anything.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: I'd like, I bet you I probably do. I bet
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: you if we look, I mean we got.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I was in my backyard and I remember, I remember
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I was so nervous about my neighbors because there had
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: been some commotion about me having a one hundred person
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: in my backyard and uh. And then the gospel choir
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: showed up and then they had microphones and I was like, roll.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: And it's such a everything is great. Literally, well they're
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: playing it. I could tell that the audience was like,
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: what the fuck is this?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: It was very sweet, it was very Romantic's so great,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: all right, So so you''re so he sees your muppet
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: poster and and go on.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: And then we and we pitched it to him. And
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: it's funny because he we didn't think it had gone great,
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: because Jason, he was very lovely, but he just sort
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: of went he sort of went, okay, thank you, let
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: me think about it. And we were like okay, and
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: we hung out thinking, oh, that seemed quite sure. And
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: then I think that very day he called and said
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: let's do it, and we're like, oh great, oh fantastic,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: and yeah, and that was it.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: That was it.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Let's take a break.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: We'll be right back after these fine words.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: So how'd you get Harrison Ford?
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Yeah? What was your You had a meeting with Harrison Ford?
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Weren't you?
- 1:05:06Speaker 8: There?
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Wasn't he in England?
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: And you?
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: Yes, I was in England. I was in England filming
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Ted Lasso and everyone else was here. And I get
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: a basically, Harrison Ford's agent has read it. We want him,
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: but we never think we're going to get him obviously,
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: so it's sort of like a Harrison Ford type and
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: then the agent goes, this is actually very good, sends
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: it to him. I basically he says, I think. What's
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: happened is the agent says, well, you need to talk
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: to Harrison. And Bill's like, but I'm not. Harrison's in
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: London making Indiana Jans and he Bill says, well, Brett's
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: in London, he can meet Harrison. I get a missed
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: call on my phone. I still have the voicemail and
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: it's and the voicemail goes, Brad, it's Harrison Ford. I'm like,
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: what the fuck. And he goes give me a call,
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: and I'm like, fuck, and I'm thinking if I if
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: I wait five minutes, I'm going to freak myself out
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: and not. So I just immediately called him. Hi, Harison,
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: and I say, how's it going. He goes, yeah, I'm
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: at work and I say what are you working on?
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: He goes of Indiana Jones. I'm like, yeah, yeah, and
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: he says he says, He says, can you meet on
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: Saturday for dinner? And I had a gig on Saturday,
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: stand up gig booked and I said, I'm really sorry,
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: I can't. I have a gig, and he goes, oh,
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: and he seems quite shocked, and we sort of. He says, well,
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: let me go back to you, and he hangs up
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: with a cool Bill and I go, well, he wanted
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: to meet on Saturday, but I've got a gig and
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: Bill goes, you fucking idiot.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Canceled the gig.
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: It's Harrison Ford. It's Harrison Ford. You have to cancel
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: the gig. I was like, but people have bought it,
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: like twelve people have bought I can't let them down.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: And so I.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Text Harrison. I go, is there any chance you're pre
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: on Friday after work, I could come meet you, and
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: he says, come to my house, come to my place
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: at like six forty five to seven thirty or something.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: So I was like, oh, I've been downgraded, like he
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: must he must, maybe not, maybe's upset.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I've been downgraded to a short window, you know what
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: I mean. So everyone, Jeff, Bill, everyone, Jason like, don't
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: fuck this up. Collect you know, make sure this goes well.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: It's like so much pressure. Drive to Harson Ford's place,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: get a lift, and I get out to come. Really know,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: it's like what the fuck? I don't know what to expect.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: And I ring the doorbell and fucking you know, hand
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: Solo answers the door like he harrdon Ford answers the door,
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: and he looks amazing and he says hey, and he
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: shakes men and I go in and he sort of
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: walks up these stairs and I follow him up the stairs.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: He hasn't really said anything yet. And then we walk
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: into his apartment and he goes best script I've ever read?
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: And I go what?
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: And he goes best scripts I've ever read? And I
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: see on his table he's got loads of scripts. He's
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: obviously reading lots of things. So I'm like, oh, you poor,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: I feel bad for it. I'm like, you've got the
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: wrong obviously means something else. And so I look at
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: the scripts and I see the shrinking script and I go,
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: I go shrinking and he goes, yeah, best dialog I've
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: ever read. And I went oh, and I said do
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: you want to do it then? And he went yeah,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: and I went okay then and he said, is that
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: business done? And I said looks like it and he said,
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: let's eat and then and then we had the whole
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: the whole evening. It's just brilliant and he was so
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: wonderful and so like he really got it. And also,
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: you know what was like, I don't know I've ever
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: told this before. I hope he doesn't mind me saying
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: this because it's sort of heartbreaking and like so lovely
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: is he was dressed a certain way and he said,
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: how do you how do you see the character sort
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: of dressing? And I said, well, honestly, sort of like this,
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: like what you wear.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: And he went, yeah, that's why I dressed like this.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: It was really amazing.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: He was additioning for Yeah, he went on an outfit.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: It was I'm gonna nail this. I'm gonna get this.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: I'm gonna get this. They probably don't think I'm good.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna get this. I'm gonna get He's such and
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: he really is.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: You know, you've wrote with him. He is what he
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: says he is and what you read about, Like if
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: you read Mike Nichols's biography biography, which is amazing, when
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: he talks about working with Arison Ford, Harrison Ford is like,
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: I'm here to service the story. I am an actor
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: in this film. I'm not the star. I'm here to
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: tell him show me that, use me in the best
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: way to tell this story. And he is like that,
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: this is an ensemble show. And as incredible as he is,
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: and he's fucking incredible, he is part of the ensemble.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: And yeah, and he you know, Zach, this is I
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: find it so like moving, like he loves it. And
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: I also go like I get why he wanted to
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: do it, because he's fucking funny and vulnerable. He gets
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: to do so much in this part that he hasn't
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: been able to show. I think, and I think, and
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: this it's really not me being like, oh, we write
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: such great science. What I mean is like, I think
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: it's an opportunity for him that he has really embraced
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: because he hasn't. He's wanted to do this, He's wanted
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: to show all these signs of himself that he gets
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: to show in this part. And I think people are
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: always like, God, he's so funny. He's so funny in it,
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: and he is so funny, but he's also so vulnerable
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: in it in a way that I don't think we've
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: ever seen before.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: And he's just amazing, you know, Yeah, I agree with
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: He's been the tough guy in so many freaking projects
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: and he's you know, and to see him cry, and
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: to see him not only cry, but freaking uncontrollably cry, like,
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: I can't fucking hate this. It's really really as a
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: fan of his, as somebody who's watched him pretty much
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: since I was three years old, it really is refreshing.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: I've seen every form, every form of him, and to
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: see him like this, I've never seen him like this,
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: and that's that's that's saying something because he's been in
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: everything and he's never been this.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I think he really loves being funny. I see I
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: see that, I see on set that he I see
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: that he's loving making everyone laugh.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: And he said to me that it's it's he loves
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: it's one of his favorite jobs. He just loves the
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: environment of the set.
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: And he's he's always generous to the writers and he'll
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: always after receiving his shot, he'll come over and thank
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: the writers and like he's he's really good and he's
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: and he's also a generous actor like he because I
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: think he knows, he knows people are into that they're
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: working for. The people very excited to work with him.
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: There was a very nervous like fuck, I've got if
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: they've got just one scene with him, and he'll he'll
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: he'll do something to put them at ease, and he'll say,
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: like this is gonna be great.
- 1:12:11Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: It's just a little gesture to show to them, Yeah,
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: I'm here with you with doing this together.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: The biggest obstacle is for the other people, including herself,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: to get over to get over it the fact that
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: you're sitting with Yeah, you have to sitting with it's
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: your own ship. Yeah, it's your own ship, because if
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: you bring that to the table, you're never going to
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: be able to be good. Whether you're an actor or
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: a writer or director, you have to sort of well,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I can only speak for myself, give yourself a little
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: pep talk, like get rid of all that bullshit. You know,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: he's a regular, he's an actor, just like everyone else
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: is an actor.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: And and you know, I think I think they're there
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: to make you look good too.
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: Elizabeth Banks said it also, you know, she You know
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: everybody when when you're working, everybody wants the scene to
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: be good. Everybody wants what you know, we all say
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: going to do something because we believed in it and
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: we want it to work, you know what I mean.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: And there's no difference between him and anyone else in
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: that situation. He wants this to be just as good
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: as you want it to be. He wants you to
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: be as good as you want to be. And so
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: you know, yeah, it is a hard thing for you,
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: but it takes a really good actor one and master
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: of the craft to put you at ease and relax
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: you so that you can be what you can be
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: the best version of yourself in that scene.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: I'd say, the first time I ever met him, he said,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: what's going on? I think I've told this on the podcast,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: but in case, I'll tell Brett. He said, let's go
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: on a ride in my golf cart. So I've been
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: with him for thirty seconds and he's taking me on
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: a Indiana Jones is driving me around the back lot
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: on his golf cart. And there's these little trams that
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: go by for the tours on Warner Brothers. It's not
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: as big as Universal, but they they have a lot
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: of these little tour buses that are constantly going around
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: and one is approaching us and I and I noticed
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: that he just so suddenly just looks away for his privacy.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: And I say to him, do you ever turn and
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: wave to the tours?
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: And he goes, no, I look away.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: But I do feel bad about it.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: You know how he would freaking they would jump off
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: the tour.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Yes, I mean that's there's no Well, also, if he
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: works on it doesn't have like the button the press
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: to be.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Also, if you work on the Warner Brothers a lot,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: they go buy every ten seconds, So it wouldn't be
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: a very fun environment for him to be working.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: It would oh my gosh.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: All right, so shrinking is a hit. And uh so
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: then you decide, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: gonna once again say that I should play a pivotal
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: role in this show.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: Too.
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: It was actually Jason that said this.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: No, I'm just doing a bit. I'm just trying to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: make fun of you for writing yourself another sorry again,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: let me get a take to let me get it.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: Take up, dude, I was I was a long foot
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: a ride too. I'm uncomfortable. Now, hold on, I'm just
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: doing it.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: I'm doing a bit ready, I'll do it better. So
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: then you decide to take three?
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: What am I to do?
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: No exactly, something like that. Like you're like embarrassed and defensive.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: I feel that anyway.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Okay, So then, because it worked the first time, you
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: decided that as a writer, you should write yourself one
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: of the leads.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: I guess, oh man, all right.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: We don't want to spoil it for the audience for
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: what you what you play, but you now are really
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: you're acting on this season of shrinking and spectacular. I
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: got to direct you, I think in your very easy Hercules.
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: Did you see his arm when he put his hands up?
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Did you see his fucking arm? That's that, Hercules. I
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: told you, motherfuckers, we were going to get something for you.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: He's always been. He's always been pretty ripped. I don't
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: think it's Hercules, all right, go ahead, Zach.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Zach, So, I play a very serious part in this show.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: It is not a fun part. There are no jokes
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: for me. And my very first day filming on this
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: show was with Zach Breath directing, and he was brilliant
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: and I really, really, really genuinely appreciate him and it
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: because it's scary of first stayed filming scary you have
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: an idea in your head how you're going to do
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: it with it, but you don't know if that's going
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: to be, you know, especially with Bill. Bill's taking a
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: big gamble on me playing this part, and I wanted
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: him he wasn't sure about it, and I wanted him
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: to feel good day one and not getting a panic like,
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: oh shit, I don't know if this is gonna work,
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And Zach was so it
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: was a very serious scene and Zach was so brilliant
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: on sex. He really created the vibe of like a
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: safe space, you know what I mean, Like everyone's kind
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: of kept everything kind of contained. It's like, let's very
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: quietly try this thing and then we're going to quietly
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: be over here and between takes kept it all sort
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: of low key, and it was really great. And I
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: think Bill came to visit and you we'd done a
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: thing and he looked and he was like, okay, great.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: And it was such a sort of relief because then
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: it was like, okay, we're fine. There was no sort
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: of panic of is this gonna? Is this right? Does
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: this feel right?
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Was some of that pressure? I wonder just as an actor,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: because you become, you know, in an un natural, unusual
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: way globally famous as this very specific character, were you
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: worried or concerned or anxious about like, hey, I also
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: want to show everyone I'm not just roy Ken and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: this is my first big chance to do that. Was
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: that on your mind?
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: It's sort of I mean, as in, you always want
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: to not be boxed in and be able to do
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: other things, but that is out of my That's the
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: same as making said, the same as any of it.
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: All you can do is try and enjoy the making
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: of the thing because beyond that is out of your control,
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: Like as in, I don't if people don't like it,
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: or they don't go for it, or they whatever doesn't
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: that I can do about that. All I can do
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: is do the thing. So I don't know that. I
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: think in my anxiety waste of time thoughts that would
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: take up some space. But when you're actually working, Yeah.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I thought you were. I thought you were spectacular and
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: and I really loved you. Thank you.
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: I I it's a pleasure to drama with you. I
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: think you're very I mean, you're very good at coming
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: to you, but it was really nice to drama scenes you.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: He's a better director than he is an actor, and
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: I think I think he's a pretty good actor. But
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: he's a better director than.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: I feel about that.
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: There's a compliment in there, but there's also a dish.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: And I don't know how it all is. It's all love.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: I said, I think you're a very good pretty good actor.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: He said pretty good, said very good. Let me rephrase
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: that pretty good.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Well, because they could go back to the tape and
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: be like, no, nigga, you said pretty good, So I
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: said pretty good. I said pretty good.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: But I also think that as a director, I you know,
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: you're one of my favorite directors.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I love I love directing, and thank you for both
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: of you. Now, Brett. Yeah, my next question for you.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I know we we got to wrap up soon, but
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you how season three, Yeah, Season
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: three of Shrinking everybody fucking ship dude being written by
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Brett as we speak.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: Did they give you? Didn't they give you? Did they
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: give you four?
- 1:20:18Speaker 8: No?
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: They just picked up three, I believe, and they're going
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: to pick up I hope they pick up four. So Brett,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: you have a lot going on. I just want to
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: get through the Brett also tours as a standard comedian.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: You can see and how do people find out if
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: you're coming to their city?
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Bro?
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: Well, just well I just finished sort of officially finished
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: the tour, but I will be doing some more dates.
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: So keep an eye on Breconstein Tour dot com, space.

- 1:20:51Speaker 1: you have always had a crush on Jennifer Lopez, who
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: hasn't and that you wrote a movie which I've read
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: and it's brilliantly funny, and it's it's like a it's
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: like a fairly Brothers movie in the best sense in
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: my mind, very funny comedy with some very funny physical comedy.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: And I I I this isn't It's been out on
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: the news, so I can say that you have secured
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: j Lo to play opposite you in a rom com?
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Is that true? Breath?
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: That is true?
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: I'm just gonna put it out there. She's also single.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: She's also single. Broad What are your thoughts on that set?
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: There's a behavior thing on set, but once you guys
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: are not on set, do you think it should happen?
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Do you have it in your mind when you heard
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: that j Lot, don't don't be fooled by the rocks
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: that she's got. Broait before you go, Now, before you go,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: it's pretty exciting. You are j Loo? You are? You

- 1:22:00Speaker 1: opposite you in your movie. Are you excited? What's the
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: how are you feeling?
- 1:22:05Speaker 8: Uh?
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: I'm yes, I'm excited. I mean we won't make it
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: for some time, but uh, do you think.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: That you should make it? Do you think that she should?
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: You should make it before she has another boyfriend?
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: But what a great guess, what an amazing guest.
