- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you for coming on to
- 0:03Speaker 1: Lament of Hope podcast. As you guys know, we always
- 0:06Speaker 1: have so many interesting guests. And by the time this
- 0:09Speaker 1: one comes out, we're nearing our 300th episode, which is
- 0:12Speaker 1: really exciting. But I'm talking today with Jennifer Goff, who
- 0:16Speaker 1: is the founder of Skip the Line. And I came
- 0:21Speaker 1: across this business and I was just so intrigued. I mean. Yes.
- 0:26Speaker 2: So it's well, it's. It depends. So if it's something
- 0:29Speaker 2: like a concert, we can hold a spot for up
- 0:32Speaker 2: to two people. And the hourly rate, it would cover
- 0:36Speaker 2: two people. If it's something like a Supreme Court argument
- 0:41Speaker 2: or a congressional hearing where seats are limited, or even
- 0:44Speaker 2: if it was something like a limited release item, it's one-to-one.
- 0:49Speaker 2: So you would have to hire as many people as
- 0:52Speaker 2: are in your group.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So, you know, I have to ask, I know you
- 0:55Speaker 1: mentioned like how the idea came to you with the
- 0:58Speaker 1: Game of Thrones pop-up bar, but still like, how did
- 1:02Speaker 1: that even come into your brain? I wouldn't even, like,
- 1:05Speaker 1: that's such an ingenious and like novel concept that you
- 1:10Speaker 1: would just think of. Like, how did you have like
- 1:16Speaker 1: an entrepreneurial spirit, like your entire life? Or like, how
- 1:20Speaker 1: did this idea come you know, just pop into your mind?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Because I've never even met anyone who would have thought
- 1:26Speaker 1: of that. You know, most people look at something and say, oh,
- 1:28Speaker 1: a long line. You either decide if you want to
- 1:30Speaker 1: do it or you don't. You never think someone could
- 1:32Speaker 1: actually wait for you, you know, in the line.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, I had just gotten back from taking
- 1:41Speaker 2: some time off to do a backpacking trip around the world,
- 1:45Speaker 2: which was an amazing experience, probably the best experience of
- 1:48Speaker 2: my life. And when I got home, I didn't know
- 1:51Speaker 2: what I wanted to do. I previously worked in real estate,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but I was not interested in going back to that.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I wasn't interested in a lot of things, to be honest.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was pretty depressed to be back here. And so
- 2:03Speaker 2: when I heard about the guys that did it in
- 2:04Speaker 2: New York, I was like. okay, I didn't think too
- 2:07Speaker 2: much about it. But as I was trying to find
- 2:09Speaker 2: something to do, I decided, hey, let me just go
- 2:13Speaker 2: down to this line and solicit people. And I didn't
- 2:16Speaker 2: have a business card or a business name or a plan.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And I think it was just coming back from being
- 2:25Speaker 2: away for so long and having the confidence, it was
- 2:28Speaker 2: just like a very rare window of opportunity for because
- 2:32Speaker 2: that's not something that I would typically do. I'm not
- 2:35Speaker 2: that outgoing or that risk, you know, risk, risky, taking risks.
- 2:40Speaker 2: So it was just like, I seized the moment and
- 2:43Speaker 2: I started to just approach people and solicit them in line.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And I think the trip you know, taking time off
- 2:50Speaker 2: and taking that trip around the world really helped me
- 2:53Speaker 2: to gain the confidence to do that and just experiment
- 2:55Speaker 2: and try it out. And then after three hours of
- 2:59Speaker 2: soliciting people in the line, someone finally hired me. So
- 3:02Speaker 2: I was going to keep trying this out each day.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So, and you kept doing it for free hours. Now,
- 3:09Speaker 1: are we talking about like every few minutes going up
- 3:12Speaker 1: to a person or were you kind of like,
