- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by the hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And you're about to listen to a
- 0:43hypnosis session about releasing A suppressed emotion.
- 0:49And I was working with a client that had a fairly unusual
- 0:54condition in the sense they had something called burning mouth
- 0:56syndrome. It's very like intense burning
- 0:59sensations also almost in there in the mouth, the tongue and the
- 1:02lips, those kind of things. And I remember maybe about two
- 1:06or three years ago when I first started working with clients
- 1:09with burning mouth syndrome, I, I spoke with a colleague of
- 1:14mine, Stephen Blake, known for his old pain to go method.
- 1:19And I said, you know, I'm working with this client with
- 1:21burning mouth syndrome. What do you think you know is
- 1:25causing it? What's the underlying positive
- 1:26intention? And even though he hadn't worked
- 1:29with many clients with burning mouth syndrome, he immediately
- 1:31said it's because they've got suppressed anger like they're.
- 1:37This afraid of. Of speaking out and, and, and
- 1:42saying certain things. And that was in my mind working
- 1:46with this client. And I said, just out of
- 1:48curiosity, is there ever, has there been a time or has there
- 1:52been a person where you've wanted to say something, but you
- 1:55really felt that you couldn't? And for them, they felt that it
- 1:58was a mother, you know, that actually their mother was very
- 2:04UN inconsiderate and unhelpful in certain situations.
- 2:10And because of that, they felt a lot of suppressed anger and
- 2:13rage. So actually what we do here is
- 2:16we do a couple of things. We give this idea that the the
- 2:20the suppressed emotion has a color and that color is, is
- 2:23black. And they can imagine the
- 2:25blackness in their tongue and their their mouth.
- 2:27And then we use regression to go back to a time where they really
- 2:31did want to say all of these things but felt they couldn't.
- 2:33And by letting go of the emotion, they imagine the
- 2:37blackness of the suppressed anger.
- 2:39Or raged. Or.
- 2:40Resentment turning into acceptance and it's designed to
- 2:44be a parallel so that if and, and a lot of medical issues are
- 2:50rooted in psychosomatic issues that actually it is a response
- 2:55to a psychosomatic thing. In the same way that some people
- 2:59might get a bump or a lump if they're stressed, you know,
- 3:03people with psoriasis or other autoimmune issues, they might
- 3:05have flare ups if they're emotionally affected.
- 3:08We can say there is a psychosomatic connection, there
- 3:10is a a connection between mind and body.
- 3:14And for people that have this burning mouth syndrome, they
- 3:17kind of know because they've had all the neurological tests that
- 3:20it isn't something actually related.
- 3:23There is no nothing physically wrong with their tongue or their
- 3:25mouth. Therefore it gives us a.
- 3:27Clue that it's likely to be a psychosomatic.
- 3:30Route so this. Is what happens in this now?
- 3:33You don't need to have burning mouth syndrome to benefit from
- 3:36this session. I would say if there is.
- 3:39Any. Feeling that you have, either
- 3:42currently or in the past, suppressed an emotion.
- 3:46This gives you. The catalyst to say something
- 3:49now it's suppressed emotion linked to, let's say, not saying
- 3:54words. So I want you to think of is
- 3:56there someone in your life that you would have loved to have
- 3:58said something to, but you didn't?
- 4:00And that doesn't have to be anger, that could be an
- 4:03unrequited love. You could have wanted to tell
- 4:06someone you loved them but never actually found the the ability
- 4:08to do it. You know, think of the
- 4:10suppressed emotion and then in the regression just imagine
- 4:13saying what would need to be said.
- 4:16Obviously this does relate to anger and resentment, so you
- 4:18could ignore any suggestions if it conflicts with your
- 4:20intention. And equally, if you like the
- 4:22idea of a bespoke session tailored entirely to you,
- 4:26whether it's in this area or something else, there will be a
- 4:29link in the description where you can schedule a completely
- 4:32free consultation. Call to explore working with me,
- 4:35and then we can figure out if I'm the right hypnotherapist for
- 4:38you. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:41comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:44Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in as you
- 5:22breathe in, breathe in that feeling of relaxation and as you
- 5:27exhale, just allow a feeling of release.
- 5:33Notice with your eyes closed how much easier it becomes to focus
- 5:41on the sound of my voice, breathing in relaxation and
- 5:51exhaling any tension. And don't be surprised if each
- 5:58breath incrementally gets slightly deeper and longer and
- 6:05slower than the last, breathing in even more of that relaxation
- 6:16and exhaling anything that feels trapped.
- 6:24Could be tension, could be anxiety, could even be anger.
- 6:34Breathe in what you need and exhale what you don't.
- 6:41That's in. And as you breathe in, I want
- 6:46you to imagine breathing in bright white light.
- 6:54And as you breathe in that bright white light that
- 6:57represents healing and resourcefulness, just imagine it
- 7:05accumulating there in your mouth before you breathe it in.
- 7:13Almost imagine infinite numbers of tiny bright white molecules
- 7:23finding their way into your tongue, cheeks, the palate of
- 7:28your mouth, and even your lips. And just imagine every white
- 7:35molecule is replacing something black.
- 7:42And as you imagine that happening, continue to breathe
- 7:46in and breathe out. But when you breathe out, just
- 7:50imagine something dark leaving your body that's in, and you can
- 7:59scan your body for any clues of tension and stress, maybe in
- 8:04your forehead, your jaw, your neck, or your shoulders.
- 8:11And then allow that resourceful relaxation, that bright white
- 8:15light, to find its way to those places of tension and feel like
- 8:23it's melting away that tension, enabling you to feel like you're
- 8:31drifting into ever deeper feelings of calm, resourceful
- 8:38relaxation. That's it.
- 8:43Deeper and deeper. Relaxed.
- 8:51In fact, the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become.
- 9:00The more relaxed you become the deeper you breathe, each breath
- 9:05taking you deeper and more relaxed than the last.
- 9:12With each breath, your body starts to slow down, your mind
- 9:20begins to quiet, and your imagination begins to awaken.
- 9:29And I wonder if you could imagine what it would feel like
- 9:33to let go of the need to achieve the need to strive.
- 9:41Not forever, just for right now. Because this moment, this time,
- 9:50is just for you. And as you focus on my voice.
- 10:03You might imagine you are sitting on a train.
- 10:09Imagine staring out of the window and just seeing the
- 10:12scenery pass by and this train is moving in a fast yet smooth
- 10:23direction and yet there is no need to rush.
- 10:30The train feels like it's moving effortlessly because this train
- 10:37knows that the destination is certain and all you need to do
- 10:44is relax and simply enjoy the ride, allowing your mind to
- 10:52drift into a place of comfort and calm.
- 11:00And very soon I will countdown from 12:50.
- 11:06And with each number, you'll feel yourself drifting even
- 11:10deeper, almost like you're descending into a safe, peaceful
- 11:16state, a place where physical and emotional healing can take
- 11:24place. So 10, just relaxing deeply,
- 11:32perhaps synchronizing with your breathing is 9 you feel softer
- 11:36and calmer, 8 floating inward, and seven, just releasing that
- 11:46tension. That's it. 6 breathing in that
- 11:52relaxation, and five, halfway there now, just releasing
- 12:00anything suppressed. 4 going deeper now, 3 deeper into peace,
- 12:11and two, almost all the way down, and one, just feeling
- 12:19deeply relaxed, open and ready for change.
- 12:31And in this deep state of relaxation, I want you to notice
- 12:39your mouth and tongue, and perhaps you can imagine a
- 12:44heaviness right there, or perhaps an intense darkness,
- 12:54blackness. And I want you to consider this
- 13:02dark blackness in your tongue and mouth as a symbol of all the
- 13:10words you wanted to say but never did.
- 13:15All the emotions you felt but kept them pushed down.
- 13:23And maybe, just maybe, that blackness represents the anger,
- 13:31the frustration, the hurt, perhaps even resentment towards
- 13:40a particular person. And not because you are wrong to
- 13:46feel those things, but because you didn't or couldn't have the
- 13:56chance to express them. And when something's suppressed,
- 14:05sometimes it comes out in strange and unusual ways.
- 14:14And what if holding on to unspoken words has weighed
- 14:19heavily on you? What if the lack of recognition
- 14:25from that person meant you strive to get recognition from
- 14:30others? What if all of that suppressed
- 14:38emotion created something psychosomatic, A biological
- 14:47response? And wouldn't it be good if today
- 14:55we get to release those suppressed emotions that right
- 15:03now you can speak your truth and you will let it out, and in
- 15:10doing so, you will no longer need to hold on to this
- 15:15blackness. And so now I wonder if you could
- 15:23imagine drifting back in time, maybe 10 years ago, to a
- 15:31particular house, to a particular room, the kind of
- 15:35place where perhaps you and them were quite often.
- 15:45Imagine it's just you too. You're back in your body and
- 15:50they are there at the age they would have been about 10 years
- 15:56ago. Before you notice them, I want
- 16:01you to notice the room, maybe the colours, any furniture, the
- 16:11layout, the atmosphere, where you are in that room and where
- 16:18they are in that room. And I want you to see them
- 16:23there, a version of them from the past.
- 16:31And you know this isn't real because it doesn't need to be.
- 16:37This is a safe outlet for things that would left unsaid.
- 16:48So in this safe inner space, now you have the chance to say
- 16:54everything that you wished you had said but didn't.
- 17:03And let's add something I want you to imagine either a zip or
- 17:12tape covering the mouth. They don't get to respond.
- 17:18They cannot respond. This is not for them.
- 17:23This is for you to imagine yourself standing tall, strong,
- 17:34direct and truthful and feel the words rising up from within you.
- 17:43They can't respond, they can't interrupt, they can't invalidate
- 17:47your words. They have to listen to
- 17:51everything. So allow that anger, that
- 17:57frustration, disappointment, any resentment, even harsh words,
- 18:05brutal words, the truth, just let it flow out.
- 18:10You're not an observer, you are in your body.
- 18:13Feel how you would feel speaking your truth with clarity, with
- 18:20strength, saying what needs to be said.
- 18:39Continue to let the words just flow.
- 18:42And as the words leave your mouth, I want you to imagine
- 18:48that that blackness that was in your tongue, in your mouth,
- 18:55begins to flow out too. The blackness is now leaving
- 19:02your body, leaving your mouth, and any heaviness, any prickly
- 19:08sensations, any sensations at all is leaving your mouth no
- 19:16longer trapped inside you. And maybe you see it floating
- 19:22around the room, and maybe the blackness turns into yellow
- 19:30butterflies, or perhaps a soft, warm yellow light.
- 19:36And I want you to keep saying what needs to be said until all
- 19:47of the blackness has left your body.
- 19:48And when that's done, let me know by nodding your head.
- 20:07That's it. Feel that release.
- 20:15You've needed this release, and it feels good to just let it no
- 20:24longer be inside you. It's out of you.
- 20:28And as the blackness turns to yellow, allow it to represent
- 20:33acceptance, release, healing. But you are not accepting
- 20:47anything other than what had happened and who they were.
- 20:57We can't change the past, but we can change what meaning we give
- 21:06to it. I want you to get a sense that
- 21:11by releasing it, it's now no longer suppressed.
- 21:17It's released. If anything is buried down for
- 21:24too long, it can grow and build in power.
- 21:30But when you release it, you set it free.
- 21:38As you finish speaking your truth, maybe you notice how you
- 21:42feel. Maybe you feel lighter, freer.
- 21:48Maybe there is a soothing, relaxed sensation in your mouth
- 21:57and you get to recognize now that they were always who they
- 22:04were, their own limitations, their own pain, their own past,
- 22:17and maybe they couldn't give what they didn't have.
- 22:24So you no longer need to carry the burden of unspoken anger,
- 22:33and by releasing it, you free yourself by speaking your truth
- 22:41here, you no longer need anything to remind you of what
- 22:49was unsaid. Feel a sense of freedom not just
- 22:58in your mouth, but everywhere in your body.
- 23:02You have nothing to prove now. You accept others for who they
- 23:09are, and you accept yourself for who you are.
- 23:14And because there's nothing to prove, achievement becomes an
- 23:19option, not a need. Any of those rules are now yours
- 23:29to set. You get to live life on your
- 23:34terms, have the right boundaries to keep you in that state of
- 23:41feeling free and relaxed and balanced, and perhaps you can
- 23:53begin to imagine your present and future living in a new way.
- 24:01And maybe for a long time, the silver lining of not quite being
- 24:08good enough gave you that drive, that determination, that desire
- 24:14to overachieve. But what if you no longer need
- 24:20to burn yourself out to prove your worth?
- 24:26I want you to feel that now is the time to do things that you
- 24:33want, not because you have to, but because you choose to.
- 24:44You now have permission to rest, to find the right balance
- 24:49between doing and being. And of course, you will still
- 24:57achieve, but now with harmony, with rest, with mindfulness,
- 25:09because the journey matters just as much as the destination.
- 25:16And if your unconscious feels that you've released something
- 25:21that needed to be released, let me know by nodding your head.
- 25:29And if you feel that you can now recalibrate and have a more
- 25:38harmonious relationship with yourself and the life that you
- 25:41live, let me know by nodding your head.
- 25:46That's in. So now your whole nervous system
- 25:51can just release and calm down. Because if a part of you has
- 26:00been trying to deter you or warn you or change you, and now
- 26:06you've changed, then there is no need for that warning sign
- 26:11anymore. And if the warning sign now is
- 26:16willing to either turn itself off or quieten itself down
- 26:21because it's achieved its mission, let me know by nodding
- 26:26your head. That's it.
- 26:32So it's time to leave this place from your past and come all the
- 26:37way back to the present. But taking all of these
- 26:42wonderful changes with you, rippling through time from the
- 26:47past to the present. And as you think of the colour
- 26:52now, maybe it's white, maybe it's yellow, but it's certainly
- 27:00not black there in your tongue or your mouth.
- 27:06And just imagine your neural pathways are rewiring, updating,
- 27:17aligning with this version of you that doesn't have to
- 27:22suppress and doesn't have to prove.
- 27:29And it's time to awaken from this place, but in particular,
- 27:35awakening the part that can protect you in new ways,
- 27:45encouraging balance rather than accomplishment and suppression.
- 27:51So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 27:57nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 27:58wiggle your toes. Start to connect and calibrate
- 28:01into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 28:07awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 28:13456 more alert. 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 28:18Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
- 28:25Wide awake. Thank you so much for joining me
