- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Vegas Reveal presented by Galindo Long started now.
- 0:05Dayna Roselli: Welcome to episode two eighty-four of Vegas Reveal.
- 0:08Dayna Roselli: Dana Roselli and John McCallander here.
- 0:10Dayna Roselli: We didn't even bother doing a whole taser because we're just sort of focusing on one topic of this episode.
- 0:17Dayna Roselli: Uh sometimes we can take a little time off in the summer, and this is something we thought of.
- 0:21Dayna Roselli: We thought this interview that we did for episode way back of Vegas Revealed in 2020 is worth replaying.
- 0:29Dayna Roselli: And the reason we thought about that because we figure we have a lot of new listeners, right?
- 0:34Dayna Roselli: That never got to hear this interview.
- 0:37Dayna Roselli: And uh something that brought it to our attention and we thought about this is there was recently uh the opening of a brand new sport book over at Ellis Island, and former mayor Oscar Goodman was there.
- 0:50Sean McAllister: Because whenever there is a new supporter book opening, you can count on Oscar Goodman being there to play the verse of that.
- 0:58Sean McAllister: He does that, and when Mark Magnus rolls around, he is a verse of that plays over at Wednesday, he is over at Laza, he's all over the place.
- 1:10Sean McAllister: And he is always.
- 1:13Sean McAllister: If you run into him anywhere, he's he will always offer his advice on the wording.
- 1:18Dayna Roselli: Very true.
- 1:18Dayna Roselli: He's 86 years old right now, and so at the Ellis Island support opening.
- 1:24Dayna Roselli: He actually plays money down and he said he likes it to be the first.
- 1:29Dayna Roselli: Um he was the first person.
- 1:31Dayna Roselli: Um he bet on the Las Vegas Raiders to win the Super Bowl.
- 1:35Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 1:36Dayna Roselli: This upcoming season, and the San Diego Padres to win the World Series this season.
- 1:42Sean McAllister: Alright.
- 1:42Dayna Roselli: So there you go.
- 1:43Dayna Roselli: If there's any influence there, that's what he did.
- 1:47Dayna Roselli: Um but anyway, you know, he is also uh a former mob attorney.
- 1:51Dayna Roselli: He is allegedly in the movie casino.
- 1:56Dayna Roselli: Um so I mean there's a lot more than people even know him for than just being the mayor.
- 2:01Dayna Roselli: But he's a mayor for the mayor for a very long time here in Las Vegas into 1999.
- 2:06Dayna Roselli: He did all his terms, and then his wife, Carolyn Goodman, took over.
- 2:10Dayna Roselli: And she was mayor for until she was termed out.
- 2:13Dayna Roselli: So the Goodmans were in charge for a very long time.
- 2:15Dayna Roselli: Now our mayor is Shelly Burley.
- 2:18Dayna Roselli: But you know, it it is different to have a non-Godman leading Las Vegas.
- 2:25Sean McAllister: It is.
- 2:26Sean McAllister: However, uh the impact and the legacy of the Goodman is all around, especially in downtown.
- 2:35Sean McAllister: I mean, both of the Goodmans were uh uh regulator leaders or bringing new guns into downtown, or uh the redevelopment of the art of desire downtown.
- 2:45Sean McAllister: As a matter of fact, there's a big mural of Oscar and Carolyn Goodman on the side of one of the buildings and the art of desire uh in downtown Las Vegas.
- 2:55Sean McAllister: So they are beloved figures here in Las Vegas, especially because I know I moved here in the early 2000s and the Goodmans were already well into their their reign over Las Vegas as mayor.
- 3:13Sean McAllister: A quarter century is a long time to have obviously the the work that Carolyn and Oscar did before becoming mayor.
- 3:25Dayna Roselli: Right now, yeah.
- 3:26Dayna Roselli: And when we interviewed Oscar Goodman, which are gonna listen to in just a a little bit here, um he actually his his mayorship was over.
- 3:35Dayna Roselli: You know, his wife Carolyn was a mayor at the time, but he was still doing things to promote tourism here in Las Vegas.
- 3:42Dayna Roselli: And Oscar's always known for showing up with a martini, showing up with a show girls.
- 3:47Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's a whole thing.
- 3:49Dayna Roselli: You're gonna hear all about that.
- 3:50Dayna Roselli: This is a really funny, entertaining educational interview.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: And Oscar Goodman was so supportive of us starting our brand new podcast, and we thought, wow, here we are in 2025 with his well-wishes and support, and we're still going strong with a weekly podcast.
- 4:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, so this interview, as you mentioned, Dana, was way back at the beginning.
- 4:11Sean McAllister: This was early on in 2020.
- 4:16Sean McAllister: That was a while back.
- 4:19Dayna Roselli: We were in a studio at the Venetian.
- 4:22Dayna Roselli: We were the Venetian was still being run by Sheldon Anderson at the time.
- 4:26Dayna Roselli: Right, who Oscar and Sheldon were known to butt heads all these years.
- 4:29Dayna Roselli: And when he walked, he said, Am I allowed in here?
- 4:32Dayna Roselli: You know, it was so funny.
- 4:33Sean McAllister: And on his way out, he said, I hope I don't get you two kicked out of here.
- 4:38Dayna Roselli: And then, you know, why don't we talk about his restaurant at the plaza after we run the interview?
- 4:43Dayna Roselli: Because I want people to know about that too.
- 4:45Dayna Roselli: But listen to this interview that we did with former mayor Oscar Goodman in 2020 on episode six of Vegas Revealed.
- 4:54Sean McAllister: From the Vegas Revealed archives.
- 4:57Sean McAllister: All right, and our first guest is a guy who really doesn't need an introduction here in Las Vegas.
- 5:02Sean McAllister: Everybody knows him.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Don't limit me to Las Vegas, please.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: I'll walk down the streets of New York City and they know who I am.
- 5:09Sean McAllister: That is very true.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: And Beverly Hills, and they know who I am.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Oscar Goodman, how are you?
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: I I can't.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I'm so happy I'm here today.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: I want to congratulate the two of you.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: You have a little bit of freedom now.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: We do.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: You're able to be creative, and uh, it's your own business, which is terrific.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I congratulate you.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Thank you very much.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: We appreciate that.
- 5:31Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's been so much fun talking about, you know, everything Las Vegas and everything going on really around the world.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Sounds like a gentleman's club, though.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Vegas Revealed.
- 5:39Dayna Roselli: Vegas Revealed, you like that?
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: That's why we're like whether I like it.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: I I have a very tough uh taskmaster at home, but I think the people who are here regarding the uh election probably like we may have to franchise this Vegas Revealed idea.
- 5:52Sean McAllister: No, we do.
- 5:53Dayna Roselli: We need to trademark it.
- 5:54Dayna Roselli: French off.
- 5:54Dayna Roselli: Listen, before we get started, uh there's apparently a martini coming in for you because we know that you can't really sit here for 15 minutes.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: My liver began to quiver about a half an hour ago.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Here it comes.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to shake from thank you.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Leandre.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Look at that.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: See the soil.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Jalapenos?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm gonna describe it to uh the listeners.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: It's a very nice uh uh martini glass uh filled with Bombay sapphire gin, and it has two little jalapenos in it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: That's uh my uh garnish of choice.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And when I drink it from here, and I'm pointing to about a quarter of an inch from the top down to about an inch, um it's as cool as it gets.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It's mellow.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: And from about the halfway mark down to the bottom, I begin to lose uh the sense of feel in my tongue, in my fingers, and in my toes.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So it tells you a little bit, but I want to cheers to you.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Cheers! I always need a reason to get water boring drinks.
- 6:53Dayna Roselli: Cheers.
- 6:53Sean McAllister: We have the boring drinks.
- 6:55Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 6:55Dayna Roselli: Why didn't we get one?
- 6:56Sean McAllister: My liver's quivering too now that you mention it.
- 6:59Sean McAllister: See, I'll corrupt everybody before we threw here.
- 7:01Dayna Roselli: You have so many uh titles, I don't even know where to begin.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean begin at the beginning.
- 7:07Dayna Roselli: Begin at the beginning.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: It's always a good spot.
- 7:09Dayna Roselli: Well, you were born.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: I was born, I I was born uh in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, uh and was educated back there.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Went to a small Quaker school, Haverford College, an excellent school, and then to the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And uh Carolyn and myself came out here in 1964.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: We arrived in Las Vegas with$87 in our collective pockets, didn't know us all.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: I got a job in the DA's office as a clerk while I studied for the bar and met a lot of important people in town.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: People with the unions, uh, people with the judiciary.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: And the moment I got my license, they began to send me business, which was great, and never had a bad day practicing law for over 40 years.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Then there came a time that I said, uh, I'm gonna do something different.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Pulled the family together because I had represented reputed mobsters all over and a lot of other people too, but my reputation was representing the mob.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: And I said to them, you know, I'm gonna do something different.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: They said, What do you have in mind, Dad?
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: I said, I think I'd like to run for mayor.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Well, we have a very democratic family with a little D, and uh little D, the little F for that matter, and they uh they um took a vote, Carolyn abstained, and my four children voted for to nothing against me.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: I said, Why?
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: They said, Dad, there's no way you can win.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: You have more baggage than the guys out of McCarran.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: So with that I won.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And I know I'm in a um a hotel which is owned by Sheldon Addelson, uh, but uh he did not own the paper at the time that the editorial came out, and the editorial was crazy.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: I went went down to my driveway on uh Sunday morning after the Friday that I filed, the last day of filing, picked up the paper, brought it into our little dinette, opened it up.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: The editorial was anybody but Oscar for mayor, which is a great way to get involved.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Did you frame that?
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: I I framed it in my mind, I'll tell you that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I have never forgiven them, and wherever I go, I talk about it.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: But then the next week, this is unbelievable.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: The San Francisco Chronicle said Las Vegas should not elect the barrister to butchers.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And I'm saying to myself, what is it their business?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, here's a place where you can't even see the city through all the fog.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: The only thing you see is the top of a bridge, a stupid bridge, and everything costs ten times as much as it does in Las Vegas, and they're saying Las Vegas should not elect me.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: But I won and I had a great 12 years, and then made a little bit of history.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: The first time in the history of the United States, a mayor swore in a spouse to succeed them when Carlin got elected, and now she's in her third term.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: So it's been a great ride.
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: It really has.
- 9:39Dayna Roselli: Incredible.
- 9:40Dayna Roselli: And and when you talk about all the stories that you share with everyone, we love that you're an open book.
- 9:44Dayna Roselli: I think that that helped.
- 9:46Dayna Roselli: Don't you think that that has really helped people just kind of embrace your way?
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: You know, there's nothing to hide.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: There's nothing to hide, and I learned that lesson uh early on the campaign trail during my first election.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: My son was in the Marine Corps at the time, and he called up to see how we're doing.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: And I said, Ross, uh have my first debate up at Sun City, uh, where all the inveterate voters are.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Very important to make a good impression.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: And I said, they're gonna send somebody, my uh opponent is gonna send somebody up there to bait me, because they know I have a bit of a temper.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I said, What should I do?
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: He said, Well, uh, do a uh um, I forget what he called it.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: It's like a strike.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: You strike them before they strike you.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, a preemptive strike.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Preemptive strike.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I had no idea what he meant.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: I still don't know what he meant, but uh uh uh I got up and uh fella comes up and he says, Um, when's the last time you've been in City Hall?
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And turns around and starts walking away.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: I said, wait a second, buddy.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: You ask me a question, I'll come up here, I'm gonna answer your question.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Well, the the audience starts trembling, all these old folks like me now, but I wasn't old then.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: And uh they start trembling.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: But what's this candidate screaming at one of us in the audience about?
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I said, Come on up here.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: I said, when you ask me a question, I'm gonna answer it, okay?
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And the answer is I've never been in City Hall.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you something else.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, don't call me after five o'clock because I'll be drunk and I won't remember.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you something else.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: I'm a degenerate gambler and I'll gamble on anything that moves.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: I'll gamble on a cockroach, whether it's gonna go left or right.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: When I got through with my list of things that are my vices, um there was no way to attack me.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: No.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: I said it all from then on it was a cakewalk.
- 11:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I love that.
- 11:28Dayna Roselli: It's that's so great.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: May you know, maybe some of these candidates who are here uh for the debate, yeah, maybe they should do that too.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: You know, every once in a while you have to tell people about uh where you're not the strongest in the world and you are human instead of trying to pretend that you're the master of the universe all the time.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: And I think they make a big mistake when they uh don't tell the truth, and I learned that as a lawyer.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: You know, juries are very smart.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: You get twelve people from varying backgrounds, and you put them in a room and they'll fight to the death to arrive at what they think is the right verdict, which is a wonderful system.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: And uh they'll know you if you're a phony.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: If I look at them and they don't believe me, uh then I lost the case.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: If I can't get them in two minutes, I'm through.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: And uh that's the way I I practiced uh as a lawyer and I uh was uh the mayor.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I always told people the truth, they didn't want to hear it, like the apocryphal story when I was speaking to a fourth grade class.
- 12:24Dayna Roselli: Oh, yeah, I remember that.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And it was a nice little speech.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: I like to I like to you know we were in the newsroom.
- 12:30Dayna Roselli: We were in the newsroom.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: I uh I used to read the kids.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: I I love I love uh youngsters, and yeah, I would read books to them.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: My favorite book was the one about uh the three pigs and the wolf, the true story.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, great, great book.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And um uh somebody uh must have been telling their parents that Goodman was going to be talking to the class because Little Hand goes up fourth grader.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, uh what can I do for you?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: If you were in an island in the middle of the ocean, what is the one thing you would want?
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I guess I could have said, you know, the Bible.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: But I said the truth.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: I said I'd like a bottle of Bombay sapphire gin.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Well, by the time I got back to my office, all these folks from the media were waiting for me there.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I never got so much publicity in my life with cameras, it was unbelievable.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: And I said, Look, I'm the George Washington of Mayors.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: I gotta tell the truth.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: So that's it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: The next day was the greatest.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: I went over to uh the uh they they have a RJ newspaper drive uh where they give the papers to the children in school.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: So I went there, they had a golf tournament, and one of the cocktail waitresses there comes up and she says, We heard what you said, mayor.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: She said, Uh thank God they didn't ask my husband.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: I I said, Why?
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Because he would have said porn.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: You said it's okay to say these things, aren't you?
- 13:54Sean McAllister: It's a podcast.
- 13:54Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 13:55Sean McAllister: Say whatever you want.
- 13:56Sean McAllister: So in comparison.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: No, I'm I'm behaving myself, please.
- 14:00Sean McAllister: Well, take a few more sips of the martini.
- 14:03Sean McAllister: Yeah, and then let's see what happens.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: It's like uh true serum.
- 14:07Sean McAllister: So i in all of your your political experience, have you ever done political consulting and advised people on ripping off the bandage and just letting yourself hang out there?
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: I I learned really early on that unless you're in the seat, you you really can't give people advice because you don't know what's happening around you.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Even people say, well, you must uh tell Carolyn what to do.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Well, no one tells Carolyn what to do.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's clear.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And she doesn't even discuss I don't know what's happening down in City Hall, and I don't want to know because she's there and I'm not.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: I don't want to get in her way.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: She doesn't ask me uh what I do when I run down to Beverly Hills.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And uh I I trust that she's gonna run the city great.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And she has.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I think what she's done with the homeless situation is probably the first positive thing.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: And she says, you know, my husband was there for 12 years and did nothing.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Well, um, I tried.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: My first meeting.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I had the best idea in the history of the world because all these poor, chronically homeless people have mental illness.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Just about every single one of them.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: They can't take care of themselves.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: There are no institutions anymore.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: The Reagan administration shut everything down.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: And I said, we have a building down at Jean, Nevada, and it'd be an ideal place.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: It has a commissary, it has rooms for sociologists and psychologists.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Just so happens as a prison now.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: But you take the bars off, it's a building.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Next day, the stinked newspaper again.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: So what was the RJ?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: The stinked newspaper again.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, they don't pay you here, do they?
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to cost you your job by saying anything.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:38Dayna Roselli: We don't get paid anything.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: We'll see about that.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Um the the the headline in the paper was Mayor Wants to send homeless to prison.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: That was the end of it.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: So for 12 years I did nothing.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: And uh she uh, you know, you go around the town, it's it's horrible.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Go down to Los Angeles, you can't walk you can't walk around there.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: You go to San Francisco, forget about it.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Portland, Seattle.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: They've taken over.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And a lot of them, you have to feel sorry for them because they can't take care of themselves, but there are a lot of other people who really are taking advantage of a situation.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: And uh she uh she said, enough is enough.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: We're a tourist uh community, we have people who live here, and they're ruining our quality of life and endangering our business.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: So uh she put things in place, and now you go downtown the last week or so.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: It's uh she's making a difference.
- 16:28Sean McAllister: Yeah, yeah, and I know that she said, Hey, you know what?
- 16:31Sean McAllister: If this gets people talking about the issue, then then mission accomplished.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: What I did with the graffiti.
- 16:37Dayna Roselli: Right, I remember that.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: You say you're gonna cut their fingers off or something?
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Just a thumb.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Come on, I'm not cruel.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Just the useless digit.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: No, you know, we had the ugliest highways in the world, and then finally, uh, I guess Endot built a wonderful desert tortoise out of stone for me at the spaghetti bowl, which is like the intersection of our entire community.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And um, the day that goes up, I get a phone call.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Mayor, somebody defaced your tortoise.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I said, You gotta be kidding.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I went out there, I looked at this poor tortoise.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: It was just all painted over and everything.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: I said, and when we catch him, I'm gonna cut his thumb off on TV.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Well, everybody went nuts with that one.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: But but the truth of the matter is, they started a graffiti squad with Metro.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And uh we've uh we are addressing the problems, and they caught the young man.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Uh he was no Picasso, okay?
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Uh they they caught him, and I went to the judge.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: I said, I guess a little bit like Trump.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: I went to the judge and I said, Um, uh, when you sentence this person, make part of the sentence that the person has to come up to my office in City Hall and apologize.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: The judge says, Whatever you want.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: So he goes to trial, he's found guilty or pled guilty, and his sentence included coming up to see me in City Hall.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm a man of my word.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Uh one of the fellows in City Hall had a machete.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: And I put I put the machete right in front of me when this poor kid came in with his father.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: He saw it.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: The father began to stutter.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: The kid began to stutter.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I said, I'm gonna use this machete.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: You have one more chance.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: I promise you, this kid will never even think about graffiti again.
- 18:27Dayna Roselli: I think we love it because you can tell where your heart is.
- 18:30Dayna Roselli: You really just love Las Vegas.
- 18:31Dayna Roselli: I love Las Vegas.
- 18:32Dayna Roselli: And that's why, even after you're turned out, you can't run for mayor anymore.
- 18:35Dayna Roselli: Now your wife is, and you're the host, you're the chairman of the host committee for the LPCVA.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Permanent host committee.
- 18:41Dayna Roselli: And that's a fun job.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: It's a great job.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, it is a bed uh getting awoken or awakened or whatever happens in the morning.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Two showgirls come up to the front door.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Carlin's already a city hall, they come to my side of the bed, they start applauding.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Is that bad?
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: No, great way to start the day.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Go into a casino to greet a group that's coming into town, and they have my drink waiting for me at the front door.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: By noon, I'm slurring my words.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: I don't I can't stand up, but it's a wonderful way to live.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: And Carlin says, How can you do this?
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: For 40 years you practice law, the toughest cases in the country.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: You work day and night.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Twelve years as a mayor, you went down every single day, seven days a week.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: You love being the mayor, and now you run around with showgirls and drink all day.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Is that bad, I said?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: No.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: And you know, uh, she she she speaks out of both sides of her mouth, too, because I've seen her run around with those uh Chippendale.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, she hasn't all forget about it.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: The meetings with the Chippendales.
- 19:40Dayna Roselli: Oh, that's what's so fun about Las Vegas, right?
- 19:42Sean McAllister: And you know, uh we just changed the the slogan of Las Vegas.
- 19:47Sean McAllister: What happens here stays here is ingrained in everybody's mind.
- 19:50Sean McAllister: But now we have something new.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Yes, we do.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: And it's interesting the evolution of it.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Um what happens here stays here is a result, and I was uh on the authority board at the time.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't think I was a chair at that time, but very much involved in what was happening.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: It was shortly after 9-11.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: On 9-12, uh, about 30,000 of our workers were laid off for the hotels.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: The streets, you know, I get a kick out of myself.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: I used to complain uh that uh there's too much traffic uh out there, so it's hard to get around.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: But when we drove those streets on the 12th, there weren't any cars.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: There weren't any people coming up from California.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: It was like a ghost town here.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: So the uh advertising agency, I thought they were ingenious.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: They realized that people had to have a reason to come here.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: They had to feel that the weight of the world, which was caused by the first invasion on the United States turf in history, uh uh could be put behind them.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: Not that you forget it, not that you don't ache over it, but you have to think in terms of positive things.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: And they said, you know, our slogan should be what happens here stays here, as far as Las Vegas is concerned.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: It was a term of freedom, and it worked.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: And the people began to come, and now, of course, we're booming again.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Uh but I guess it got a little old.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't think so.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: I I love the old uh what happens here stays here, but now we have a new one.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Um what happens here only happens here.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: And the whole thrust is that Las Vegas is the only place in the world where everything is available for everybody when they come here.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: And it's true.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Uh we can you go to ball games now.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we have the uh Vegas Golden Knights, we're gonna have the Raiders, we have uh uh the rugby, we've got na our second NASCAR is coming up this weekend.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, just the the fight, the fury fight is coming up this it's just amazing.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: There's something for everybody to do all the time, and this is the only place like that.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: And you all you have to do is walk from one place to another, and entertainment, the best entertainers in the world are there for you, the greatest food in the world is there for you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: For you.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: You can't go to any other city where everything is concentrated in an area like Las Vegas and have all this available.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: So I think it's a great slogan.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I think I think it's an important slogan.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: And uh there's so many new things that are coming up uh this uh coming year.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: We have the uh uh what's the name of the world?
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: World Resorts.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Uh Resorts World.
- 22:21Dayna Roselli: Resorts World.
- 22:22Dayna Roselli: See, we were just talking about the name, how sometimes you flip it by mistake.
- 22:25Dayna Roselli: That's me.
- 22:25Dayna Roselli: That's on me.
- 22:27Dayna Roselli: I am dumb.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: No, I'm almost as dumb.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm not that dumb.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I saw planes.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I went up there and uh talked to Scott Sabella.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Uh it's really gonna be special.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: It's huge, it's huge, and uh the grounds are gonna be gorgeous, and they're gonna have great restaurants, and just gonna be a very, very cool place.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: And then we have Circa downtown with Dirk Stevens.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Uh it's gonna be the, I would imagine, the greatest race and sports book in the history of the world.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Uh give uh give people an opportunity to see something spectacular.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: It's gonna have great restaurants.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Of course, I have my little Oscar's restaurant right across the street, gonna benefit from that, which is nice.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: And uh the convention uh center is expanding.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: You know, uh people say you really don't need the convention center uh that uh Las Vegas sells itself.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: Not true.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Um when I was on the board, we used to go over once a year to London to a national uh travel convention.
- 23:30Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Every single little town, every single state, every single country, every single nation, all were competing for our business because we were number one, we still are, and they tried to knock number one off the perch.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Uh and they spent some money.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, they you went to the uh the um the Emirates, and basically you thought that their booth was dripping from diamonds and gold.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: It probably was, it was just awesome.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And uh other places were spending tons of money in order to attract business to come to them and to leave us, and all we had was me and my showgirls and my martini.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you something, they like the showgirls better than they like the gold.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Did they?
- 24:11Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 24:12Dayna Roselli: Absolutely.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: We wrote so much business there, but we had to go after it.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: We had to hustle it because the competition is fierce.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: And uh we're we're succeeding.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: So I don't want to hear that they don't need it.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: They do need it.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Uh whether they want it or not is a different story, but they do need it.
- 24:28Sean McAllister: But something else that Las Vegas has now that no other city does is a tunnel that is bored by Elon Musk.
- 24:35Sean McAllister: That's correct.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: And uh uh if he's lucky, he'll probably end up in Mars or something.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Is that where the other end of the tunnel is?
- 24:42Sean McAllister: I have no idea.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: All I know is I get the Wall Street Journal every once in a while, and there's always a story about him as to whether he's going broke or he's going to be another trillionaire.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: I I all I uh hope is that the uh the boring, it's an amazing name for a company, a boring company.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: But I understand why they uh call it the boring company, because it bores.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Uh and uh uh I I hope that it solves uh the the traffic flow.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: That's what it's all designed to do.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Apparently the customers, instead of walking 20 minutes from getting from one place to another during convention, uh, will be able to get on that and get there in like 20 seconds, which is which is terrific.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Um the uh the convention center is going to be uh phenomenal.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: They're uh redoing everything that presently exists and adding over a million three uh square feet to the 3.2 million that's already exists.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: And we have to do it because if we don't keep up with it, you folks will not have a podcast.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:39Sean McAllister: That's the truth.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Thank you for for doing all of this for us.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: The only reason I'm doing it is for you.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm doing a little bit because I got a drink.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: Who's paying for this drink?
- 25:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah, Sean.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: She volunteered you.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: She did.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: I'll take my card out.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: But it's true, all these things.
- 25:57Dayna Roselli: I mean, it in the slogan only Vegas.
- 25:59Dayna Roselli: It's, you know, we're gonna have this tunnel, we're gonna have this.
- 26:01Dayna Roselli: It's it and I see people using it on social media and saying only in only Vegas.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: I'm still not sure.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I think I'm getting misadvised.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: I I was a little sober uh at the beginning of the Super Bowl.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Uh second half, forget about it.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: So 44 players on the field at one time.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: But uh right before they told me that they ran the ad pre-Super Bowl during the pre-broadcast.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know whether to take uh that as a slap, that it wasn't during the Super Bowl, which was the case several years ago.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: They refused to take our Las Vegas ads.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: I can't remember that.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Or whether that it was in in lieu of that, and I should not be upset.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Uh but uh until I find out, uh I am not going to allow Roger Goodell to drink martinis at Oscars.
- 26:46Dayna Roselli: Uh-oh.
- 26:47Dayna Roselli: Oscar's the plot.
- 26:48Sean McAllister: Consequences.
- 26:49Sean McAllister: Consequences for bad ad placement.
- 26:52Sean McAllister: That's the whole thing.
- 26:53Sean McAllister: That's very true.
- 26:54Dayna Roselli: How's the restaurant going?
- 26:55Dayna Roselli: Good?
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Terrific.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: You do your talks there.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: You have your about every six weeks.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: I give a speech.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Uh the next one is March the 5th.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: It's been sold out.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: It sells out the same night that I give the speech.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: People are getting angry at me now that they can't get a seat.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: I may not show up for fear of uh not getting a seat.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: But I think this time I'm going to talk about an old client of mine, fascinating case, Jimmy Shagra.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: I don't know where that name rings a bell.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: When did you two get here?
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Uh 2005.
- 27:23Dayna Roselli: 2004.
- 27:24Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, I'm an old timer, and um uh in 1979, a federal judge down in Texas was assassinated.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: And um the government's theory of the case is that Woody Harrelson's father was a trigger man, and that my client, Jimmy Shagra, who was a giant gambler here, I mean, probably the biggest gambler they ever had in coming to town, that he paid for it because he was going to go into trial in front of Judge Wood, and Judge Wood was called Maximum John because he sentenced people to the most he could sentence them to.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: And it was referred to as the trial of the century.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: There's always a trial of the century, you know.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: OJ, Jimmy's was a trial of the century back then.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: And um uh it's a great story.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a it's a neat story, and uh everybody was found guilty, except my client, because on the eve of the trial, my client's wife wrote a letter to the judge's widow.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: She was a defendant in the case saying, Dear Mrs.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: Wood, uh I was cooking fried chicken in my kitchen, and my husband came up to me and said, I'm gonna kill me a federal judge, but I had nothing to do with it.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Well, uh, she was found guilty along with my uh uh my uh client's brother and Harrelson, the supposed uh shooter, and Harrelson's wife, and they moved my case uh down to uh Jacksonville, and I got it not guilty for him.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it was it was very, very cool.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: And I did some great things during the trial.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: Even I have to say that I did some great things, and uh, what goes around comes around.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: I wasn't happy with the judge, not not Judge Wood, I didn't really know him, but with the judge who took it over, William Sessions, who then became head of the FBI.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: And he got his uh I don't wish any bad on anybody at this time.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: That's wrong.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Uh but uh uh he he uh he he he left in disgrace, so everything worked out.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna tell that story.
- 29:13Dayna Roselli: That's a great story to remember all this stuff.
- 29:15Dayna Roselli: You've got such a good memory better than me.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: I have the biggest brain cells in the world.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: People will not believe that.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: My brain cells are huge, and I attribute it all to the gin because other people do what I do, but they just don't drink as much gin.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I need to catch up.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Well, it's gonna take a long time.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: How old are you now?
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: 40.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: You don't have to do it.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: I have some time.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: You'll never catch up.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: You'll never catch up.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: You know, I I am I'm not leaving here.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I'm enjoying my love to keep talking.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: We're talking forever.
- 29:44Sean McAllister: You know, with your experience uh representing the mob here in Las Vegas.
- 29:50Sean McAllister: Alleged mob.
- 29:51Sean McAllister: Uh do you do you find yourself compelled to watch uh these mob uh TV shows and series that come out?
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: I love the Sopranos.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Do you?
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: I think anybody who didn't like the Sopranos is probably blind and deaf and uh doesn't have their senses about them.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a great, I thought it was a great piece of artwork, actually.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: I thought it was terrific.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: I I like Boardwalk Empire.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I I thought that was very, very good.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And those are the only two that I really paid any attention to because I like the I like the the uh storyline, I like the acting in it.
- 30:22Dayna Roselli: Just put them on.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Put this person on?
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:26Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: This could be Dennis Hoff's ghost, I don't know.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: This is poor Dennis Hoff.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: What a guy.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: He came down to hear one of my speeches.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Did he?
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, did he go to the plaza?
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, he was late, and I screamed at him and I yelled at him, and then we became friends, and he he gave me a bathroom.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Uh didn't call me the madam.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: It was something like that, I don't know.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: But uh you know, I represented our federal judge here, Judge Claiborne.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: And uh he was uh initially charged with bribing the owner of the Mustang Ranch, which was a brothel up in Story County.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Uh and uh Conforti uh was the main witness against him, and we really made uh mincemeat out of Conforti, but ultimately they got the poor judge on a tax case, although they shouldn't have done it, but that's uh a whole story in and of itself.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: That was a sad day for for Las Vegas because he was the only judge impeached in the last century.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: And he was convicted of the tax case.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: But as far as the bribery and that kind of the venal stuff, uh it all went down the toilet.
- 31:28Dayna Roselli: Yeah, uh your stories are endless, and that's why that's why your things are sold out.
- 31:33Sean McAllister: What is one to do when you have endless stories like this?
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Well, you tell them to yourself because after a while people get tired of listening to them.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: And with my my brain cells, I can't forget.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: You know, it's great.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: My wife, who I love more than life itself, I wish this one would stop.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: My my she's the greatest.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: She wakes up.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Well, she doesn't sleep, but she sort of talks to me about two in the morning.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: And she says, What are what are the names of uh those two uh people that you were on the podcast with?
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm in the uh the middle of a deep sleep.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: I said, Shauna Dana.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Go back to sleep.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: She knows.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: She knows what the gin does.
- 32:15Dayna Roselli: Oh, and you remember it.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Well, she knows what the gin does.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: She does.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: I you know, every night I sit in front.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: Uh I have bets on every game.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: I could show you my little bedding.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Well, you like it?
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Like, sure.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: It's a sickness, it's a sickness.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: And I uh I mean you don't die from this.
- 32:30Dayna Roselli: You brace embrace everything, Las Vegas, and I think that's the best part from gaming.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: I like to live every single second.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: You do.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: It's quite a ball game.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: By the way, how'd you do on the Super Bowl?
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: I lost.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Oh you could ask me, I I have the same uh answer for you in any question you ask about sports.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: You lose?
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: Because yesterday I was hotter than a firecracker.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: I won one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: I won nine out of ten basketball bets.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: These are my little bets, you see.
- 32:58Dayna Roselli: And you carry them around.
- 33:00Dayna Roselli: Oh, you do that?
- 33:00Dayna Roselli: Oh, no, no.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Oh, you have to carry them around.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: I got my bets here.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: I bet one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve games today.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: Look at that.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: In the heat of all the action with March Madness, I want to sit down and watch those games with you.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: You need it.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: You need the action.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: When you're a trial lawyer and you're in court all day and you're fighting every FBI agent, every DEA agent in the world, fighting the judges, fighting them taking your fee from you, seizing your car from you, as always happened with me.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: They took my Rolls-Royce.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Not serious.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: That's a story in and of itself.
- 33:33Dayna Roselli: Yeah, that is a story.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: And um fighting and fighting, you can't go to sleep.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: You have to have action.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: So every night, that's when I became a real degenerate.
- 33:41Sean McAllister: We could have this go on for uh the next ten episodes.
- 33:44Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 33:47Sean McAllister: Okay, good.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: Now if Villanova wins tonight and covers the spread, Sean, uh Dan, are you a sports fan?
- 33:53Dayna Roselli: I am a sports fan.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, the two of you put a little money down.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Just try it out.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: And if you win, I'll let you buy me a drink at Oscar.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: That's a deal.
- 34:04Dayna Roselli: That sounds like such a great deal.
- 34:06Dayna Roselli: Is the parking free there?
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Absolutely free.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 34:08Dayna Roselli: Absolutely because that's like, you know, so controversial now, the paid parking.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: And I think it's very bad.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: I don't want to do anything to kill the golden goose.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: This town has been so good to me, and it's supposed to be a bargain.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: And to me, it's penny ante.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: I don't care how much money they make because whatever they come in with, they're not going to leave with it.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: They're going to leave it with you if you own one of these joints.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: And uh the charge for parking, it just uh seems foolish to me because it just makes people angry.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: But worse than that is a stupid tax they don't tell you about.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: A resort fee?
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Resort fee.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I would be hotter than a firecracker if I came into one of these places.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I'm paying$300 for a room and I get a uh a bill for$400, and I say, what's that for?
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: The resort fee.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: I would burn the place down.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: No, I wouldn't.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: I would have one of my clients burn the place down.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 34:57Sean McAllister: Oscar, you know, for uh for a guy who came to town not knowing uh a soul, you've you've progressed pretty darn well.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: Well, it's a great town, as you know.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, look at you.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: You you have a whole new future.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: You had great uh careers uh in the media, and now uh you're you have your own program, your own company.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Uh people are gonna hire you, you're gonna make a lot of money, and uh you're gonna be happy, and that's the main thing.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Just be true to yourself, be honest when you look in the mirror in the morning.
- 35:26Dayna Roselli: Thank you, Oscar.
- 35:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's true.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's um if people keep trying to get me to leave, well, should you take a job here?
- 35:31Dayna Roselli: And I don't, I just can't leave.
- 35:33Dayna Roselli: I love it.
- 35:34Dayna Roselli: No, I love it.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: You don't need a job.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Vegas for life.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: You got a podcast, you don't need a job.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: How does a podcast work?
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: Uh can I play it?
- 35:42Dayna Roselli: Uh yes, you can play it.
- 35:44Dayna Roselli: We'll teach you.
- 35:44Dayna Roselli: We're gonna make you we're gonna go on your phone, we're gonna download it for you, subscribe, and then you're gonna give us five stars.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: I'm happy to do that.
- 35:51Sean McAllister: I don't know how to turn on my phone.
- 35:54Sean McAllister: Oscar Goodman, always a pleasure.
- 35:57Sean McAllister: Thank you so much.
- 35:58Sean McAllister: Thank you, and good luck to you.
- 35:59Sean McAllister: Cheers.
- 35:59Dayna Roselli: Cheers as well.
- 36:01Dayna Roselli: That was great.
- 36:02Dayna Roselli: It's such an entertaining interview, and I love that he didn't know where he could listen to a podcast.
- 36:06Sean McAllister: I know you were like, yes, you can listen to it.
- 36:10Sean McAllister: Give me your phone, I'll download it.
- 36:12Sean McAllister: You'll be giving us five stars and a positive review.
- 36:17Dayna Roselli: And it's funny because we always say, like, we're glad we started a podcast in 2020.
- 36:21Dayna Roselli: There were podcasts and podcasts that were popular, but they're they were not as popular as they are right now, five years later, right?
- 36:27Dayna Roselli: So we kind of, you know, got on the boat early.
- 36:30Dayna Roselli: And that's why someone like Oscar Goodman was like, I don't really know much about a podcast.
- 36:35Sean McAllister: So I can listen to this.
- 36:36Sean McAllister: Oscar is great.
- 36:38Sean McAllister: Uh always is so good to see him around town.
- 36:42Sean McAllister: One of the places that you'll actually uh see him frequently is over at the Plaza Hotel in Casino in downtown Las Vegas where Oscar's datehouse is.
- 36:53Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 36:53Dayna Roselli: This is great, you know.
- 36:54Dayna Roselli: And I don't know if you've never been, you need to check this out.
- 36:58Dayna Roselli: It is and it has a beautiful view, a really cool view, I should say, of remote, you know, the covered art and all the neon lights and the datehouse is fabulous, and the food is great.
- 37:11Dayna Roselli: They have amazing happy hours.
- 37:12Dayna Roselli: I know you like that non-daily five to seven.
- 37:16Dayna Roselli: You need to get a martini when you're there.
- 37:20Sean McAllister: There's a steak house burger is great.
- 37:25Dayna Roselli: We always say this.
- 37:26Dayna Roselli: I haven't met in a while because it's hard to hit out of everything, but um we need to go back soon.
- 37:31Dayna Roselli: And I love that like on the website it is there is a dress code.
- 37:35Dayna Roselli: I like that.
- 37:39Dayna Roselli: Robert attire required.
- 37:41Dayna Roselli: No swimwear, swimwear, clothing with offensive or graphic language.
- 37:46Dayna Roselli: No exploded undergarments are allowed.
- 37:50Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 37:53Sean McAllister: We have a lot of Oscar.
- 37:57Sean McAllister: That's great.
- 37:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it really is.
- 37:59Dayna Roselli: I mean, we were talking about that recently.
- 38:00Dayna Roselli: We were in a higher end restaurant.
- 38:03Dayna Roselli: Somebody was dressed.
- 39:00Sean McAllister: Very true.
- 39:01Dayna Roselli: Right off the top of his head, and he's like, I love him.
- 39:04Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so it really was great to see that he was out of the supports of book opening there, um, just off the street at Ellis Island.
- 39:09Dayna Roselli: And also FYI, they did open a new supports of book, and they're doing a lot of work over there in Ellis Island as well.
- 39:15Dayna Roselli: Go check out Oscar's big house at the plaza.
- 39:19Dayna Roselli: It's beautiful, it's all surrounded by windows.
- 39:22Dayna Roselli: There's also an outdoor patio, so it is a cool spot to go.
- 39:27Dayna Roselli: And make sure you dress appropriately.
- 39:29Sean McAllister: Absolutely.
- 39:30Sean McAllister: That is the moral of the story.
- 39:31Sean McAllister: The big takeaway dress appropriately when you go out in Vegas.
- 39:37Sean McAllister: That's right.
- 39:38Sean McAllister: You don't want that.
