• 2:37
Speaker 3: Day be a federal holiday? Some say yes, some say no. Well,
• 2:41
Speaker 3: one guy who's really into Election Day being a federal
• 2:44
Speaker 3: holiday is a young writer and he's going to join
• 2:46
Speaker 3: us a little bit later on the show. Plus Canock
• 2:48
Speaker 3: Candic Commission Ben Silangos here, and we're gonna step away
• 2:51
Speaker 3: from politics just for a moment because there's a big event,
• 2:53
Speaker 3: a fashion show coming up to benefit the Children's Theater
• 2:56
Speaker 3: of West Virginia. I'll get into all that, plus your
• 2:58
Speaker 3: calls and texts too. Now, with it be an election day,
• 3:02
Speaker 3: I want to check with the Secretary of State's office.
• 3:03
Speaker 3: Originally we had wester Virginian Secretary of State Mac Warner
• 3:06
Speaker 3: scheduled for this slot. However, it is election day, so
• 3:10
Speaker 3: he's got kind of called away to do something else.
• 3:12
Speaker 3: But we have the chief of staff of the Secretary
• 3:15
Speaker 3: of State's Office, Deep Cursey, with his deeg.
• 3:16
Speaker 5: Good morning, welcome to the.
• 3:17
Speaker 7: Show, morning to day. Thank you for having me, thank.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: You for being here, and I do want to mention
• 3:22
Speaker 3: programming note that Secretary Warner is scheduled to be on
• 3:25
Speaker 3: with Hoppy in the first position this morning. Hopefully he'll
• 3:28
Speaker 3: be able to keep that because you know, it is
• 3:30
Speaker 3: election day and I got a little experience in that.
• 3:33
Speaker 3: I know how it goes, Deeke. But everything, as far
• 3:36
Speaker 3: as you know, pull's been open for two and a
• 3:38
Speaker 3: half hours now. Everything running smoothly so far.
• 3:42
Speaker 7: Running the smooth across the state. You know, of course,
• 3:44
Speaker 7: we always have a little ones here, twosy here, there
• 3:47
Speaker 7: Logan County, they had a precinct go down with power
• 3:50
Speaker 7: being out, but the county clerk there got the generator
• 3:53
Speaker 7: hooked up immediately and voters were able to walk in
• 3:55
Speaker 7: and vote with some nice flashlights and the battery power
• 3:59
Speaker 7: of the voting machines and a couple of little pulling
• 4:01
Speaker 7: places across the state. The size of the ballot was
• 4:05
Speaker 7: some leftover blank stock from the primary election, so they
• 4:08
Speaker 7: had to swap those out because they're different sizes. Other
• 4:11
Speaker 7: than that, things seem to be running very smoothly.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: I'm going to talk about Deacon again.
• 4:16
Speaker 3: We're talking with Deeke Kurzy and for Mac Warner today
• 4:19
Speaker 3: on the All Things Election Day. Let's talk about the
• 4:22
Speaker 3: early voting numbers, Deeke, because these numbers, man were off
• 4:26
Speaker 3: the charts. I mean nationwide, they were off the charts,
• 4:28
Speaker 3: but especially it's numbers. In talking to some of the
• 4:30
Speaker 3: county clerks Vere McCormick here, Brian wood over in Putnam County,
• 4:33
Speaker 3: they say there are numbers like like they've never seen before.
• 4:36
Speaker 7: Deec it was exceptional. I mean the last election we had,
• 4:41
Speaker 7: not counting COVID with the highest number of early voting
• 4:44
Speaker 7: turnout for in person was the twenty sixteen general and
• 4:47
Speaker 7: two hundred and nine thousand people voted early in person
• 4:50
Speaker 7: that year. This year we had three hundred and ten
• 4:52
Speaker 7: thousand people vote early and in person. That's one hundred
• 4:54
Speaker 7: thousand more than we saw in twenty sixteen, and even
• 4:57
Speaker 7: still in twenty twenty, with COVID being the major issue there,
• 5:01
Speaker 7: we still beat that number by sixty thousand. So voters
• 5:04
Speaker 7: are not just turning out, they're turning out and droves
• 5:06
Speaker 7: to vote early and utilize their options here to vote
• 5:09
Speaker 7: when it's most convenient for them to.
• 5:11
Speaker 3: What do you attribute that, Deeke? I mean, why were
• 5:14
Speaker 3: so many? Is it just because you know it's a
• 5:16
Speaker 3: presidential election and that more people want to early vote?
• 5:20
Speaker 3: I mean, is there anything that you can look at
• 5:22
Speaker 3: that you can attribute these large numbers of early voters to.
• 5:27
Speaker 7: I don't know if there's any quantifiable data right now
• 5:29
Speaker 7: that we could say one way or another, but there's
• 5:31
Speaker 7: a number of variables that could very likely have caused you. First,
• 5:35
Speaker 7: communication from our office to the media letting folks know
• 5:39
Speaker 7: all their different opportunities and dates and times to show
• 5:41
Speaker 7: up and vote when it's convenient for them. Another factor
• 5:44
Speaker 7: is on the campaign side of the world, candidates, even
• 5:49
Speaker 7: national candidates, were encouraging people to vote early. So it
• 5:53
Speaker 7: could be that the messaging is getting to the voters better.
• 5:56
Speaker 7: It could also be an adoption thing where now that
• 5:58
Speaker 7: we've had early voting for over twenty years, the number
• 6:02
Speaker 7: has increased every election, So it could just be part
• 6:04
  Speaker 7: of the trend.
• 6:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, and this has been something that's been
• 6:07
Speaker 3: going on for some time. And I mean people enjoy it,
• 6:10
Speaker 3: you know. I mean they enjoy in West Virginia having
• 6:12
Speaker 3: that ten days of early voting, including the two saturdays.
• 6:14
Speaker 3: We're talking with Tee Kersey from the West Virginia Secretary
• 6:16
Speaker 3: of State's office. One note I wanted to throw out
• 6:19
Speaker 3: there to people and I let your office know about
• 6:21
Speaker 3: this yesterday that over in Putnam County, I was talking
• 6:25
Speaker 3: to Putnham County Clerk Brian Wood. They had a one
• 6:28
Speaker 3: hundred and four year old lady that showed up for
• 6:33
Speaker 3: early voting. Oh, but not to be outdone. In Putnham County, Deeck,
• 6:37
Speaker 3: there was a one hundred eight year old lady who
• 6:40
Speaker 3: voted by absentee ballot. That's got to be I would
• 6:43
Speaker 3: think some sort of a some sort of an age record.
• 6:48
Speaker 7: It's exceptional, and we're actually going to try and and
• 6:51
Speaker 7: grab those stories and maybe do a nice piece for them.
• 6:55
Speaker 7: But I heard from Katie Slater in Dodgers County. She
• 6:58
Speaker 7: had one hundred two year old vet who sat there
• 7:00
Speaker 7: and talked about every election he's voted in. So there's
• 7:03
Speaker 7: been a lot of folks turn up and vote who've
• 7:05
Speaker 7: been doing so for decades, and we love those stories absolutely.
• 7:08
Speaker 5: Talking to with Dee Gurzy from the Secretary of State's office.
• 7:11
Speaker 3: Now, there were a couple of problems reported during early
• 7:14
Speaker 3: voting around the state. The big one that got probably
• 7:16
Speaker 3: got the most attention deep was then in Mingo County
• 7:18
Speaker 3: where apparently a candidate was a state candida for state Senate,
• 7:22
Speaker 3: was left off the ballot. They're working to correct that.
• 7:26
Speaker 3: Can you give us an update on that.
• 7:28
Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely so. Mingo County officials were able to actually
• 7:32
Speaker 7: correct that error during early voting within a couple of
• 7:36
Speaker 7: hours of discovering it. That doesn't solve the problem come
• 7:41
Speaker 7: canvas when they determine the margin of the votes split
• 7:44
Speaker 7: between the winner and the second highest vote getter, But
• 7:47
Speaker 7: that'll be something they have to figure out using a
• 7:49
Speaker 7: legal process called an election contest. The good news for
• 7:52
Speaker 7: the voters is as soon as the air occurred, it
• 7:54
Speaker 7: was caught by the locals and they fixed it within
• 7:58
Speaker 7: a couple of hours. They even suspended in person voting
• 8:01
Speaker 7: to make sure they could stop the bleeding there. So
• 8:05
Speaker 7: it's an issue, but it seems to be from everything
• 8:07
Speaker 7: we're seeing, they've been very cooperative. A human error at
• 8:11
Speaker 7: the ballot proofing stage. There's three people that proof ballots
• 8:13
Speaker 7: for every county, Republican, Democrat and the county clerk, and
• 8:17
Speaker 7: they just missed this candidate. So there's no excuse for it.
• 8:20
Speaker 7: There's no good excuse for it at least, and our
• 8:23
Speaker 7: office will focus on that for the twenty twenty six elections.
• 8:25
Speaker 7: But for the voters, feel confident that it doesn't appear
• 8:27
Speaker 7: to be anything nefarious, no inside job or anything like that.
• 8:31
Speaker 7: You know, that's politics talking. When you read those kinds
• 8:33
Speaker 7: of things. It just appears to be a human error.
• 8:36
Speaker 3: And you've got people on the road from the office
• 8:39
Speaker 3: in all fifty five counties today to travel to nearly
• 8:42
Speaker 3: every precinct in the entire state to give voters a
• 8:45
Speaker 3: little bit more confidence.
• 8:46
Speaker 7: Right, Well, I don't know if we're going to hit
• 8:48
Speaker 7: nearly every precinct there's almost seventeen hundred of them.
• 8:51
Speaker 5: However, I said nearly, nearly nearly.
• 8:55
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right, you know how to do that. Yeah,
• 8:58
Speaker 7: We'll be in every single county in the state. Eighteen
• 9:00
Speaker 7: people staffed, including the secretary who is on the road
• 9:03
Speaker 7: just now. He hit seven precincts this morning and everything
• 9:06
Speaker 7: seems to be running very smoothly here in Kanawha County.
• 9:09
Speaker 7: We've also have for this election the Fusion Centers Fusion
• 9:12
Speaker 7: Liaison officers. Over four hundred citizens have signed up to
• 9:16
Speaker 7: be Fusion Liaison officers who report intelligence from the field
• 9:20
Speaker 7: to the Fusion Center. These aren't investigators. These are every
• 9:23
Speaker 7: day citizens and folks that work for agencies who are
• 9:26
Speaker 7: reporting their experience on election day. So we can target
• 9:29
Speaker 7: any kind of immediate response to those locations and have
• 9:32
Speaker 7: somebody on the ground that had eyeballs on the situation.
• 9:35
Speaker 7: So it's a great day for us, and we're very
• 9:38
Speaker 7: excited to have such a large response team out there
• 9:40
Speaker 7: so we can get to any issues when they come
• 9:43
Speaker 7: up inevitably quickly so it doesn't impact the franchise.
• 9:46
Speaker 3: Indeed, before we let you go, if people do suspect
• 9:48
Speaker 3: that there's something a little fishy going on, what do
• 9:50
Speaker 3: they need to do?
• 9:52
Speaker 7: Give us a call first of all eight seven to
• 9:54
Speaker 7: seven fraud WV. You can also text us at four
• 9:58
Speaker 7: five nine. Just text WV to four five nine nine
• 10:03
Speaker 7: fives int us some pictures into some notes and we'll
• 10:05
Speaker 7: get somebody right on it. Those good right to our
• 10:07
Speaker 7: Investigations division. If it's a voter who needs some help
• 10:09
Speaker 7: on election day, or some pole workers that have a
• 10:13
Speaker 7: problem that they need immediate assistance with, call your county clerk.
• 10:17
Speaker 7: They're the ones that have direct information and then response
• 10:20
Speaker 7: capabilities and materials to fix any machine errors or anything
• 10:24
Speaker 7: like that. And really it's huge to keep in mind
• 10:29
Speaker 7: humans run elections. Things do happen, don't panic.
• 10:32
  Speaker 5: And don't leave.
• 10:32
Speaker 7: Give us a call. We will resolve that we have
• 10:34
Speaker 7: people in the field and it will not be something
• 10:37
Speaker 7: that will impact your right to vote. And a reminder
• 10:41
Speaker 7: for everybody, if you're there at seven thirty when the
• 10:43
Speaker 7: polls close, don't leave. Stay in line. You will get
• 10:47
Speaker 7: to vote, but make sure you're about seven thirty. If
• 10:48
Speaker 7: you're late, you won't get to vote. So make sure
• 10:50
Speaker 7: you're there about seven thirty and just wait in.
• 10:52
Speaker 5: Line and that they'll give you a number. This is
• 10:54
Speaker 5: the way that works. And if you are in anisody
• 10:56
Speaker 5: and you will be able to vote. Dee Curzy, Chief
• 10:58

• 11:03
Speaker 5: I know it's going to be a long day for you.

  Speaker 5: It's a long day for the media. It's a long
• 11:07
Speaker 5: day for everybody. So just to keep your chin up, man,
• 11:10
Speaker 5: and we'll talk soon.
• 11:11
Speaker 7: Thanks a lot, Thanks Dave, thanks for covering it.

Speaker 3: Polls close there at seven and usually report in a
• 12:40
Speaker 3: timely manner. Trump will win, says a Texter. But the
• 12:43
Speaker 3: Louisville Lexington metro is a great potential precursor for other
• 12:47
Speaker 3: urban world divides. If Harris wins big in the metro,
• 12:52
Speaker 3: let's say sixty five thirty five split or better, that
• 12:54
Speaker 3: could be indicative of Georgia and Atlanta Atlanta Fulton, where
• 12:59
Speaker 3: the urban versus rural population divide actually tips urban and
• 13:03
Speaker 3: could move the state to Harris. Same in North Carolina
• 13:06
Speaker 3: with Charlotte Mecklenberg. Emphasis on blue wall very important, but
• 13:09
Speaker 3: don't overlook the rural urban divide where urban has greater
• 13:12
Speaker 3: overall voter numbers. There is somebody right there that follows
• 13:17
Speaker 3: elections closely, folks. Let me tell you. Tex says, just
• 13:21
Speaker 3: stop at the Chapmanville down in my home county Chapmanville

Speaker 3: bus garage to vote, and the line was one hundred
• 13:28
Speaker 3: out the door. I will try again later in the day.
• 13:31
Speaker 3: It's the inefficient workers that are the problem. It was
• 13:34
Speaker 3: the same way last presidential election. Well, I know the
• 13:36
Speaker 3: county clerk down there, John Turner. He's a fine fine man.
• 13:38
Speaker 3: He's served as County Clerk of Logan County for twenty
• 13:41
Speaker 3: years or more, and I'm sure that he's aware of that,

• 16:32
Speaker 11: Well, the only thing that was the only thing to

• 16:36
Speaker 11: Both my teams didn't lose in the same weekend. Okay,
• 16:39
Speaker 11: you know that makes for a disastrous weekend.
• 16:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I do want to mention this about elections,
• 16:44
Speaker 3: about election day, and and I've told the story before,
• 16:47
Speaker 3: have been a former employee of.
• 16:48
Speaker 5: The Secretary of State's office.
• 16:49
Speaker 3: Number one problem that when we were out in the
• 16:53
Speaker 3: field that we saw was not over. You know, if
• 16:56
Speaker 3: you vote for this person, you're going to hell or
• 16:58
Speaker 3: you know that kind of person or anything. It was
• 17:00
Speaker 3: people wearing campaign material, right, and they just many times
• 17:03
Speaker 3: a commissioner, they didn't think about it. But just so
• 17:06
Speaker 3: you know, if you're going to vote today, you cannot
• 17:09
Speaker 3: wear a Maga hat, you cannot wear Trump material, you
• 17:12
Speaker 3: cannot wear vote for John Smith for county commit you
• 17:16
Speaker 3: cannot wear that in the polling place. And technically now
• 17:18
Speaker 3: they can't refuse you to vote, but a poll worker
• 17:21
Speaker 3: does have the right to tell you you have to
• 17:24
Speaker 3: get out of line, take the shirt, take the hat off,
• 17:27
Speaker 3: come back in, preferably put another shirt on, don't go
• 17:29
  Speaker 3: in topless.
• 17:30
Speaker 11: Yeah, and so my my I usually take my entire firm,
• 17:34
Speaker 11: like we all go down and we early vote together
• 17:36
Speaker 11: as a scroll of the pole and one year I
• 17:38
Speaker 11: forget it was in eighteen or twenty when we did it,
• 17:41
Speaker 11: but we all walked down and somebody was wearing a
• 17:43
Speaker 11: Selango loll jersey like a shirt Celingo. It wasn't like
• 17:49
Speaker 11: vote for salt, it was a selangol. They made him
• 17:51
Speaker 11: take it off. Yeah, which you know, I didn't eve
• 17:53
Speaker 11: think about it. We walked in and Vera McCormick staff
• 17:57
Speaker 11: caught it and said, nope, go turn her inside out or.
• 17:58
Speaker 5: Here's a bowldoat and you're gonna get nothing by Vera. No,
• 18:01
  Speaker 5: you don't know.
• 18:02
Speaker 11: You know, I kidder every time. I was like, this
• 18:04
Speaker 11: is you know, how's your first election going?
• 18:07
  Speaker 12: Long?
• 18:07
Speaker 3: Well, it's considered electioneering. And I've talked about this on
• 18:11
Speaker 3: the show before. Mainly it's not like it's I'm obsessed
• 18:13
  Speaker 3: with it. It's just that's what I saw when I
• 18:15
Speaker 3: worked out in the field on election day, and most
• 18:18
Speaker 3: people just didn't think about it. They are passionate about
• 18:20
Speaker 3: their candidates, and it tended not to be national candidates.
• 18:23
Speaker 3: Of course, this is before Trump became a national brand
• 18:25
Speaker 3: and you know with my maag and everything like that.
• 18:27
Speaker 3: But it was usually Sheriff Ward of Education you know,
• 18:29
Speaker 3: something like that. So just know, if you're going to
• 18:31
Speaker 3: the polling place, you cannot have anything on your person
• 18:35
Speaker 3: that says vote for a particular person or person's vote
• 18:39
Speaker 3: Republican vote Democrat. You cannot just just just be easy,
• 18:42
Speaker 3: just just take it easier on yourself. So, so are
• 18:46
Speaker 3: you typically an election day voter or an early voter?
• 18:48
Speaker 11: I typically vote early. I've always you know, I just
• 18:51
Speaker 11: enjoyed that convenience. I just walked down to voters registration
• 18:55
Speaker 11: and vote. Now, I think back in twenty twenty during
• 18:58
Speaker 11: the governor's race in the in the general, I've voted
• 19:01
Speaker 11: on the day of election because I wanted to go
• 19:02
Speaker 11: with my family because typically typically I'll go vote and
• 19:05
Speaker 11: terrible vote. And my oldest son back then he had
• 19:10
Speaker 11: just turned eighteen, so it was his first time voting,
• 19:12
Speaker 11: so I wanted to vote with him. But generally I
• 19:14
Speaker 11: just do it early.
• 19:15
Speaker 5: Do you remember the first election that you voted in?
• 19:17
  Speaker 13: I do.
• 19:19
Speaker 5: Was it a presidential election?
• 19:20
  Speaker 12: It was?
• 19:20
Speaker 11: It was in nineteen ninety two, and so you know,
• 19:24
Speaker 11: I was at w and remember voting, and I honestly
• 19:30
Speaker 11: don't remember who was on the it was a presidential election,
• 19:33
Speaker 11: but I don't remember that would have been that would
• 19:34
Speaker 11: have been Clinton. Was it Clinton in ninety two?
• 19:36
Speaker 5: Yeah? Clinton and Bush.
• 19:38
Speaker 11: Huh. I remember some of the candidate to not it
• 19:42
Speaker 11: was well. But also that was the year that Rossparo
• 19:46
Speaker 11: was also on the ballot. That's right, that's right. It
• 19:48
Speaker 11: looked like a voter. I remember Rosparo. I was actually
• 19:52
Speaker 11: impressed by I remember I loved the accent, the Texas accent. Yeah,
• 19:57
Speaker 11: and that and that's one of the first races that
• 19:59
Speaker 11: we saw that a third party candidate really caused some issue.
• 20:02
Speaker 11: I don't want to say it was good or bad,
• 20:03
Speaker 11: but yeah, kind of kind of threw a monkey wrench.
• 20:05
Speaker 11: I forget, well, it was enough for a lot of
• 20:08
Speaker 11: people think to kind of sway it and so definitely
• 20:10
Speaker 11: shifted and uh. And Robert Kennedy is still on the ballot,
• 20:13
Speaker 11: even though he's out there campaigning for Trump, He's still
• 20:15
Speaker 11: on the ballot. Many States Commissioner I had the two
• 20:17
Speaker 11: candidates vine for the third commissioner's ship, if you will,
• 20:20
Speaker 11: on the show yesterday. Of course, Commissioner Kent Carper resigned.
• 20:22
Speaker 11: Mark Slidnik was a point to take its place. Mark
• 20:24
Speaker 11: filled in admirably but made it clear he was not
• 20:27
  Speaker 11: going to.
• 20:28
Speaker 3: Stick around, So former Secretary of State Natalie Tenant did
• 20:31
Speaker 3: run as a Democrat and former State Senator Chris Walters
• 20:34
Speaker 3: as the Republican. Had both on the show yesterday and
• 20:37
Speaker 3: both did a great job, and I and I was
• 20:39
Speaker 3: kind of gushing over both of them, but saying, why
• 20:42
Speaker 3: can't we have more races like this? I mean, now
• 20:45
Speaker 3: it may all go to hell in a handbasket for
• 20:46
Speaker 3: the next twelve hours, but I mean, but I mean
• 20:49
Speaker 3: I even heard them off the air, and I don't
• 20:50
Speaker 3: think one would mind me saying, hey, why don't you
• 20:53
Speaker 3: come down to my campaign because one was having a
• 20:55
Speaker 3: campaign party one place and one was that come down
• 20:58
  Speaker 3: to mine too.
• 20:59
Speaker 5: And it was like, why can't we do this more often?
• 21:02
  Speaker 12: Yeah?
• 21:02
Speaker 11: They're a politicans, both great people. You know Chris. Chris
• 21:06
Speaker 11: actually does my commercial insurance. He writes the he's my
• 21:10
Speaker 11: agent for all of my commercial policies. And you know,
• 21:13
Speaker 11: I've known Chris a long time, known his wife and
• 21:16
Speaker 11: his father in law and his dad. I mean, I've
• 21:18
Speaker 11: known the whole family. So, you know, two very good people,
• 21:21
Speaker 11: and they handled themselves well yesterday. You know Natalie, I've
• 21:24
Speaker 11: known her forever as well, So it's it'll be an interesting,
• 21:28
Speaker 11: interesting race. You know, Republican turn out in Kennak County
• 21:31
Speaker 11: is way up. If you look at the early voting,
• 21:33
Speaker 11: it's substantially higher for the on the Republican side than usual.
• 21:37
Speaker 5: Now what do you attribute that to?
• 21:38
Speaker 3: Why do you think the Republicans are voting earlier than
• 21:42
Speaker 3: Because I saw one piece of literature that said, the
• 21:44
Speaker 3: Republicans are voting earlier than the Democrats, but the Democrats
• 21:49
Speaker 3: are asking for more absentee ballots, which you know, Q
• 21:52
Speaker 3: the Now that's not in West Virginia, that's nationwide, so
• 21:54
Speaker 3: Q the conspiracy theorist there, but on that But but
• 21:57
Speaker 3: but why do you think the Republicans are or choosing
• 22:00
  Speaker 3: to vote earlier?
• 22:01
Speaker 11: I think two reasons. Number One, Trump's on the ballot, right,
• 22:03
Speaker 11: and so that that really energizes the Republican party. Secondly,
• 22:07
Speaker 11: I think it's now you know, I think early on
• 22:10
Speaker 11: people were cautious about early voting, particularly on the Republican side.
• 22:13
Speaker 11: They didn't necessarily trust it. They want to make sure
• 22:15
Speaker 11: they'll vote counted, and and so they were lagging behind
• 22:19
Speaker 11: on early voting. And now if you look at the
• 22:21
Speaker 11: numbers Republicans. Actually we had about thirty one thousand early
• 22:25
Speaker 11: vote and Republicans out numbered Dems by about a thousand votes.
• 22:30
Speaker 11: And then there were you know, five or six thousand
• 22:33
Speaker 11: no party independence but I think too. Yeah, so Trump
• 22:37
Speaker 11: on the ballot energized the base. And then also I
• 22:40
Speaker 11: think with the now, it's just it's almost normal.
• 22:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, early vote you know, become a thing. As you said,
• 22:47
Speaker 5: twenty years or so. Yeah, that's what Deac and I
• 22:49
Speaker 5: were talking about it. It's just and I could see
• 22:52
Speaker 5: eventually it become more normalized, I think over the years.
• 22:56
Speaker 11: Yeah, it has in the convenience of it. I mean,
• 22:58
Speaker 11: so even if you live in elk View but you
• 23:00
Speaker 11: work downtown, you can just walk down to voters. You know,
• 23:03
Speaker 11: you can't do that on election day. You have to
• 23:04
Speaker 11: go to your precinct. So I think a lot of
• 23:06
Speaker 11: people take advantage of that convenience. And you know, honestly,
• 23:09
Speaker 11: Peer mccormicky does a great job, just a great job
• 23:13
Speaker 11: with that and the way that's handled. And she's always
• 23:16
Speaker 11: watching to make sure that there are enough machines for
• 23:18
Speaker 11: early voting in the various early voting places so that
• 23:22
Speaker 11: nobody stands in line. We upgraded the equipment this year,
• 23:25
Speaker 11: so it goes much more smoothly. You didn't see a
• 23:29
Speaker 11: lot of people waiting, you know. When I went down,
• 23:32
Speaker 11: I took I took eighteen people to the poll with
• 23:35
Speaker 11: me my office and when we got there, we were
• 23:39
Speaker 11: down on we're actually out on Courier Street, and all
• 23:42
Speaker 11: eighteen of us got through in like twenty minutes, which
• 23:46
Speaker 11: is pretty good. You know, so very runs a very
• 23:48
  Speaker 11: efficient office.
• 23:49
Speaker 3: Indeed, talking to Kadak count Chemistry, Ben Salangova, Dave Island

• 24:10
Speaker 3: the race between Chris Walters and Natalie Tenant, you will
• 24:12
Speaker 3: one way or the other, you'll have a new County
• 24:14
Speaker 3: Commissioner after the first of the year, I guess right,
• 24:17
Speaker 3: that's when we be sworn in and among the topics
• 24:20
Speaker 3: that they and all the other two you and mister
• 24:22
Speaker 3: Wheeler will be looking at is the judicial annex.
• 24:25
Speaker 5: So where are we what's the latest on the judicial annex?
• 24:27
Speaker 11: You know, I was this is something we have to do.
• 24:30
Speaker 11: And there were significant security upgrades that we made in
• 24:34
Speaker 11: the renovation. You know, that legislature added three magistrates and
• 24:38
Speaker 11: a circuit judge. Of course that circuit judge is gonna
• 24:41
Speaker 11: be Rich Lindsay look forward to you know, working with him,
• 24:44
Speaker 11: and so we had to remodel. We were just confined
• 24:47
Speaker 11: on the amount of space. So what we did was
• 24:49
Speaker 11: we hired an architect. We gave them a budget of
• 24:52
Speaker 11: between ten and twelve million dollars. I was hoping it
• 24:54
Speaker 11: would be closer to ten and unfortunately, the cost of
• 24:59
Speaker 11: everything is just aha, I mean, particularly construction. This project
• 25:03
Speaker 11: was very unique because of its location, because of the
• 25:06
Speaker 11: hours that we were going to have to do the
• 25:09
Speaker 11: construction at night. That was going to drive the cost up.
• 25:12
Speaker 11: And you know, when when the bids were unsealed, the
• 25:15
Speaker 11: lowest bidder was sixteen point two million. So at that
• 25:18
Speaker 11: point we had a couple options. We could reject it
• 25:20
Speaker 11: and start over. That would delay the project probably six
• 25:23
Speaker 11: months to a year.
• 25:25
  Speaker 5: We could.
• 25:26
Speaker 11: We had a certain amount of time where we can
• 25:28
Speaker 11: negotiate with the lowest bidder to try to reduce the price.
• 25:31
Speaker 11: But you can't at that point reduce this. You can't
• 25:34
Speaker 11: change the scope of the project. Legally, you're not allowed
• 25:37
Speaker 11: to say, well, we're just gonna you know, throw a
• 25:40
Speaker 11: trailer out back. That would change that would change the
• 25:42
Speaker 11: scal Although it would be cool if you did, I
• 25:44
Speaker 11: don't think the magistrates or the due judge would like that.
• 25:47
Speaker 11: And and the third option would be to award the
• 25:50
Speaker 11: project and then you can change things afterwards. So that's
• 25:54
Speaker 11: the route that we did. And I want to I
• 25:57
Speaker 11: want to preface this by saying, you know, our architect
• 25:59
Speaker 11: the art did a great job. They incorporated the design
• 26:02
Speaker 11: that we wanted. The price was just higher than anyone,
• 26:05
Speaker 11: including them anticipated. Now Chief Judge Mayor clear Aker sent
• 26:09
Speaker 11: us a letter saying, hey, I know part of the
• 26:11
Speaker 11: reason why this is high is because you're going to
• 26:14
Speaker 11: be working at night. She talked to the judges and said,
• 26:17
Speaker 11: you know what, to save money, work during the day
• 26:20
Speaker 11: and we'll just kind of deal with it for the
• 26:22
Speaker 11: next year, which was very kind of her and the
• 26:24
Speaker 11: other judges, which we appreciate.
• 26:26
Speaker 3: Se you're anouncing no, that wasn't a gavel, that was
• 26:29
Speaker 3: a hammer. That was you just ended a murder trial,
• 26:32
  Speaker 3: and you.
• 26:32
Speaker 11: Know, so we're going to try to you know, not
• 26:35
Speaker 11: cause much disruption over there, but you know, it's got
• 26:38
Speaker 11: to happen. But we appreciate her letter and all the
• 26:41
Speaker 11: judges that are doing that. But we're going to come in.
• 26:43
Speaker 11: We'll probably change that, maybe work a little during the day,
• 26:47
Speaker 11: probably still the majority of the work at night, but
• 26:49
Speaker 11: we want to save some money. There are other things
• 26:50
Speaker 11: that we're going to do. So my goal is to
• 26:53
Speaker 11: get this thing down within close to the budget.
• 26:57
  Speaker 12: You know.
• 26:57
Speaker 11: And I tell people this, and I say that seriously.
• 27:00
Speaker 11: If you would if you were doing a project at
• 27:02
Speaker 11: your house, or imagine doing a project at your business
• 27:05
Speaker 11: and you come in twenty five percent over budget, I mean,
• 27:08
Speaker 11: you're not just gonna say, Okay, you're gonna you're either
• 27:11
Speaker 11: gonna start over. You're gonna find a way to reduce
• 27:13
Speaker 11: the scope of the project. So that's what we're gonna do.
• 27:16
  Speaker 11: I mean, I wouldn't do it with my money. I'm
• 27:18
Speaker 11: not gonna do it with the people's money, you know.
• 27:19
Speaker 11: I'm not going to go twenty five percent over budget
• 27:21
Speaker 11: on any project at my house or in my business,
• 27:24
Speaker 11: So I'm not going to do it.
• 27:25
Speaker 5: So what do we stand right now, Commission? What do
• 27:27
Speaker 5: we send right now?
• 27:28
Speaker 11: I think we'll be able to reduce the cost of
• 27:30
Speaker 11: the project. I think there might be some other money
• 27:33
Speaker 11: that we can get in to help with the project,
• 27:35
Speaker 11: and I think we will come close, if not under budget.
• 27:39
Speaker 3: Talking to knag Antic commission Ben Silango, Texays, Dave, can
• 27:42
Speaker 3: you ask Commissioner Silango if he got his trout from
• 27:45
Speaker 3: Pink Creek yet? Also, in all seriousness, how's the clean
• 27:48
Speaker 3: up situation there going?
• 27:50
Speaker 11: I think that's going very well. I have not First
• 27:52
  Speaker 11: of all, I don't fly fish. I don't have the
• 27:54
Speaker 11: patience or the talent to fly fish. But I did
• 27:57
Speaker 11: it many many years ago. I caught one trout and
• 28:00
  Speaker 11: that's it. I've got one trut. But I wouldn't mind
• 28:03
Speaker 11: going down there fishing. I think it's coming along. I
• 28:05
Speaker 11: think we've you know, we had the folks, some of
• 28:07
Speaker 11: the folks from Paint Creek end the other day in
• 28:09
Speaker 11: the commission meeting. We've set aside money from that settlement,
• 28:13
Speaker 11: you know, the trucking collision that the truck accident that
• 28:16
Speaker 11: caused the spill. All that money has been earmarked and
• 28:19
Speaker 11: set aside for that community and particularly that watershed. So
• 28:24
Speaker 11: you know, we've done some things to help in that area.
• 28:27
Speaker 11: And maybe in the spring I will go down their fish.
• 28:31
Speaker 3: Anything with the Capital Sports Complex dubdate, because that was
• 28:34
Speaker 3: part of the conversation I had with Chris Walters and
• 28:37
Speaker 3: Natalie Tennant on the show yesterday.
• 28:39
Speaker 5: Anything that you could update.
• 28:41
Speaker 11: Yeah, and I think I think both their comments were good.
• 28:43
Speaker 11: I know both of them are in favor of it.
• 28:45
Speaker 11: Chris was a little reserved about, you know, how we're
• 28:47
Speaker 11: going to pay the bills. You know, we've we've looked
• 28:51
Speaker 11: at that. It's we're not taking out a forty million
• 28:53
Speaker 11: dollar loan or forty million dollars bond. We have received
• 28:58
Speaker 11: some federal assistance of the tune of about nine million dollars. Obviously,
• 29:02
Speaker 11: with the pool not in the project right now, that
• 29:05
Speaker 11: reduces the cost of the project, so it's not it's
• 29:08
Speaker 11: no longer eighty million, it's going to be lower than that.
• 29:11
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 29:12
Speaker 11: And then we've got some other things that we're doing
• 29:14
Speaker 11: as far as branding different funds.
• 29:16
Speaker 5: It's probably gonna have a name, right, It's going to
• 29:18
Speaker 5: be the SO and so.
• 29:19
  Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I mean I don't want you to
• 29:20
Speaker 3: reveal it, but is it a fairly fairly likely that
• 29:24
Speaker 3: it's going to be called the the Dave Allen Sports
• 29:28
Speaker 3: Center or something like that, I mean Dave On Enterprises
• 29:31
Speaker 3: or something like that.
• 29:31
Speaker 11: I think it's gonna it's gonna be very similar to
• 29:33
Speaker 11: the Shawnee Sports Complex. We're gonna have a name, but
• 29:35
Speaker 11: then it will also be there'll be a corporate brand
• 29:39
Speaker 11: on it as well. We've had a lot of interest
• 29:42
Speaker 11: in that. So that's one way to save money. You know,
• 29:45
Speaker 11: you've got to look at two things. You've got the
• 29:46
Speaker 11: construction calls, which are significant, and then you've got operating costs.
• 29:50
Speaker 11: The operating costs, we believe the facility will pay for itself,
• 29:55
Speaker 11: if not turn a small profit, not necessarily year one,
• 29:58
Speaker 11: but year two, year three, year, for I think it will.
• 30:01
Speaker 11: The operating costs will it will sustain itself. The construction
• 30:05
Speaker 11: costs is different matter. I mean, you just got to
• 30:07
Speaker 11: put that money up. Now. How much we eventually bond
• 30:10
Speaker 11: will depend upon how much additional federal assistance we get,
• 30:13
Speaker 11: whether or not we get to any state assistance, but
• 30:16
Speaker 11: it's definitely not gonna be forty million dollars, and Chris
• 30:18
Speaker 11: is correct, we can't. We could not afford a forty
• 30:21
Speaker 11: million dollar note, nor would I ever try. But the
• 30:25
Speaker 11: one thing that kind of complicated matters at least on
• 30:28
Speaker 11: the county side, and the city's ready to go, they've
• 30:29
Speaker 11: got their sales tax and everything, they're ready to go
• 30:32
Speaker 11: is the judicial anects. You know, we were not expecting
• 30:34
Speaker 11: that sixteen million dollars hit, if you will. That was
• 30:40
Speaker 11: not our in our plan, and so we're we're kind
• 30:43
Speaker 11: of taking a step back and looking at what can
• 30:46
Speaker 11: we do on both projects to make sure that we
• 30:48
  Speaker 11: don't that we're fiscally responsible.
• 30:51
Speaker 3: It's amazing how they all kind of tie together. You know,
• 30:53
Speaker 3: when a new time I have you on, we're talking
• 30:55
Speaker 3: about now you know, ninety percent of the conversation we
• 30:58
Speaker 3: have is about the judicial annects here as of l
• 31:00
Speaker 3: and the Capital Sports Complex. But it all ties together
• 31:02
Speaker 3: because it's all it's all money. Yeah, So in this race,
• 31:05
Speaker 3: I'm not asking you for a prediction or anything like that,
• 31:07
Speaker 3: but you have gone on record on this show in
• 31:10
Speaker 3: other places, then we'll let you go that that that
• 31:13
Speaker 3: we have two good candidates, in your opinion, running running
• 31:16
Speaker 3: for county commission and whoever, I think it's going to
• 31:18
Speaker 3: be a tight race tonight between Chris Walter's Natalie Tenant
• 31:21
Speaker 3: that you're looking forward to working with with either.
• 31:23
Speaker 11: Of them, yeah, I mean I've known them both for
• 31:25
Speaker 11: a long time, have a tremendous amount of respect for
• 31:28
Speaker 11: them both. I think Natalie has great name recognition. I
• 31:32
Speaker 11: mean she's been out there a lot, you know, dating
• 31:33
Speaker 11: back to when she was the first female mountaineer, So
• 31:36
Speaker 11: I think she's got great name recognition. I think Chris
• 31:39
Speaker 11: has ran a great campaign, He's been all over the place,
• 31:44
Speaker 11: so that I think it really will come down to
• 31:46
Speaker 11: that has Chris's work has he done enough to surpass
• 31:51
Speaker 11: Natalie's name? And let's not forget Natalie's working hard too.
• 31:54
  Speaker 11: I mean she's everywhere. You can't find a being dinner
• 31:56
Speaker 11: that she hasn't gone to it, and I mean she's everywhere.
• 31:59
Speaker 11: So I think that really is what it comes down to.
• 32:02
Speaker 11: What will the increased Republican turnout due to the race,
• 32:05
Speaker 11: and how will that off set Natalie's you know, incredible
• 32:09
  Speaker 11: name recognition.
• 32:10
Speaker 5: Should have you on to do because it'll be Danny
• 32:12
Speaker 5: Jones and myself doing the analysis tonight on the local races.
• 32:14
Speaker 3: Should have had you on to talk about the better
• 32:16
Speaker 3: Probably a little too sticky for you to be involved. No, actually,
• 32:18
Speaker 3: I'm going to be on. I'll be with Kenny Bast
• 32:20
Speaker 3: tonight on WCCHS live coverage.
• 32:22
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 32:22
Speaker 11: Really, you didn't invite me. I would have come. I'll
• 32:26
Speaker 11: swing back here with you and Danny first and then
• 32:27
Speaker 11: run over to Kenny.
• 32:28
  Speaker 12: There you go.
• 32:28
Speaker 3: Well, there's always a chance with Danny that there could
• 32:30
Speaker 3: be barbecue, so keep that in mind.
• 32:32
Speaker 11: If there's barbecue, I will cancel on Kenny and come
• 32:35
  Speaker 11: over with you.
• 32:35
Speaker 3: Remember I am from southern West Virginia. We'll get you
• 32:38

• 36:12
Speaker 3: a federal election, be a federal holiday? Some say no,
• 36:17
Speaker 3: others say yes. One who definitely thinks it should be
• 36:19
Speaker 3: a federal holiday is a gentleman by the name of
• 36:21
Speaker 3: Ethan Watson. He's a writer who also studies political science.
• 36:23
Speaker 3: There's several other things in his life. He is part
• 36:26
Speaker 3: of the Young Voices group and he joined us right now. Ethan,
• 36:28
Speaker 3: good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 36:31
Speaker 13: Thanks so much for having me on.
• 36:32
Speaker 3: Why should in your opinion, election day be a federal holiday?
• 36:36
Speaker 13: Sir? I think there's a couple of reasons why making
• 36:39
Speaker 13: election day is federal holiday would be a good idea.
• 36:42
Speaker 13: The first one, which is the one you'll hear guys
• 36:44
Speaker 13: like Bovek and Elon out there pushing, is that no
• 36:47
Speaker 13: one has any faith in our elections anymore. Everyone on
• 36:50
Speaker 13: either side thinks it's rigged, the other sides trying to cheat,
• 36:52
Speaker 13: and so therefore the system needs to change and move
• 36:54
Speaker 13: towards an in person voting model where we reduce the
• 36:57
Speaker 13: streams by which votes are coming in, reduce the streams
• 37:01
Speaker 13: of voting coming in by mail or abs, and see ballots.
• 37:04
Speaker 13: And that's a really good case because, regardless of whether
• 37:07
Speaker 13: it's warranted or not, the perception is there that our
• 37:09
Speaker 13: elections are not secure. So that tells me the system
• 37:12
Speaker 13: needs to change. But I think what these guys are
• 37:14
Speaker 13: missing is there's a deeper reason why it's good for
• 37:16
Speaker 13: us to all go in person and vote as much
• 37:19
Speaker 13: as possible, and that is it's good for people to
• 37:22
Speaker 13: engage in displays of public civic virtue. Right, we need
• 37:26
Speaker 13: to go out as a community together and actually engage
• 37:29
Speaker 13: with our democracy as a reminder to us that this
• 37:31
Speaker 13: is a really exceptional right. The vast majority of human
• 37:34
Speaker 13: beings that have ever lived have lived under tyranny and
• 37:36
Speaker 13: coercion and not consent. And so going out and just
• 37:40
Speaker 13: like how we build monuments and museums and statues, holidays
• 37:44
Speaker 13: and events are another way that we commemorate the greatness
• 37:46
Speaker 13: of our civilization, and that's why I think it would
• 37:48
Speaker 13: be good for us to have in person voting become
• 37:51
  Speaker 13: the norm.
• 37:51
Speaker 3: Again, have you found there's a lot of support for
• 37:55
Speaker 3: this ethan? I mean and talking to different people. I
• 37:57
Speaker 3: know that you go all over the country. Have you
• 37:58
Speaker 3: talked to different people about this?
• 38:00
Speaker 13: They say, well, you know, most people that I've talked
• 38:03
Speaker 13: to seem to agree with this idea. Obviously, there's some caveats, right,
• 38:07
Speaker 13: So for example, not everyone gets federal holidays off. Not
• 38:10
Speaker 13: everyone can vote in person in their home state. A
• 38:14
Speaker 13: lot of college students are out of state, for example,
• 38:16
Speaker 13: service members overseas, So there obviously has to be exceptions
• 38:18
Speaker 13: and logistics to work out. But I think the core
• 38:20
Speaker 13: idea that it's good for people to get back at
• 38:23
Speaker 13: and engage with our democracy in person is fairly popular,
• 38:26
Speaker 13: at least among people like myself who tend to be
• 38:29
Speaker 13: a little bit more conservative in our beliefs.
• 38:31
Speaker 3: And you also, in talking to you back and forth
• 38:34
Speaker 3: we were texting last night, and you're a younger person,
• 38:38
Speaker 3: do you find that there's differences between younger and older
• 38:41
Speaker 3: people in this belief that elections should be that federal
• 38:43
Speaker 3: election should be a national holiday.
• 38:45
Speaker 5: Does that skew along age lines in your opinion?
• 38:49
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 38:49
Speaker 13: Absolutely. Unfortunately, my generation is like very adamized something happened
• 38:54
Speaker 13: to us during COVID, where now we value convenience above
• 38:56
Speaker 13: almost everything else, and so we like to do everything
• 38:59
Speaker 13: remote to go to class remotely, work remotely, vote remotely.
• 39:03
Speaker 13: And it's really frustrating because you know, my generation is
• 39:06
Speaker 13: also depressed at exceedingly high rates. Right We're not happy,
• 39:09
Speaker 13: we're not doing well, we're not getting married, we're not
• 39:12
Speaker 13: engaging with our communities like we used to. And I
• 39:13
Speaker 13: think it's because we have just come to value convenience
• 39:16
Speaker 13: over all else and I think we need we need
• 39:19
Speaker 13: someone to push us to get back out into our community.
• 39:21
Speaker 13: And you know, maybe for once, the federal government could
• 39:23
Speaker 13: set a good precedent and make that happen by by
• 39:26
Speaker 13: setting election day as a federal holiday.
• 39:28
Speaker 3: What do you think the chances of this becoming a thing?
• 39:31
Speaker 3: And is there an actually I know that you speak
• 39:32
Speaker 3: about it, you write about it, ethan, but is there
• 39:35
Speaker 3: actually an organized effort somewhere to make this happen that
• 39:38
Speaker 3: federal ections would be a federal holiday.
• 39:41
Speaker 13: Well as far as an organized effort goes I'm not
• 39:43
Speaker 13: too sure. I might be the organizer here, the low organizer,
• 39:47
Speaker 13: but but you know, I think I think there's probably
• 39:51
Speaker 13: a pretty low chance that this happens, at least on
• 39:53
Speaker 13: a federal level, just because I think I think people
• 39:56
Speaker 13: have come to view anything to do with elections is
• 39:58
Speaker 13: such a part as an issue. I mean, something that
• 40:00
Speaker 13: seems as obvious to you and me as you should
• 40:02
Speaker 13: present a valid idea when you go to vote, is
• 40:04
Speaker 13: somehow become a controversy, and for reasons that I'm as
• 40:09
Speaker 13: yet unclear on as to why anyone would want people
• 40:11
Speaker 13: who can present an idea to vote. So I think
• 40:14
Speaker 13: it's unlikely. But I really wrote this article just to
• 40:16
Speaker 13: bring attention to the fact that something does need to
• 40:18
Speaker 13: change for us to have faith in our elections, and
• 40:20
Speaker 13: also to remind everyone that, hey, a little bit of
• 40:23
Speaker 13: civic virtue is a good thing. It's good for us.
• 40:25
Speaker 13: Just like we go out on fourth of July and
• 40:26
Speaker 13: celebrate how good our country is, another day to do
• 40:29
Speaker 13: that is something that I would absolutely be behind.
• 40:31
Speaker 5: Is there a place where people can read this article
• 40:33
Speaker 5: that you're referencing or any of your other stuff.
• 40:36
Speaker 13: Certainly, Yeah, So I've got a couple of articles out
• 40:38
Speaker 13: on Real Clear Politics. I've got one on Free the People.
• 40:41
Speaker 13: But if you want to connect with me on social media,
• 40:44
Speaker 13: you can find me on ex at E. R. Watson thirteen.
• 40:46
Speaker 13: That's where I retweet all my articles, and also on
• 40:48
Speaker 13: the Young Voices program website. All of my hits are
• 40:51
Speaker 13: published there as well.
• 40:53
Speaker 3: All right, Ethan, It's an interesting concept and it's already
• 40:56
Speaker 3: listened to a couple of texts, so you'll have to
• 40:58
Speaker 3: either listen on the app or go back and listen
• 40:59
Speaker 3: to it when we post the podcast version of this later.
• 41:02
Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here, man, thanks a lot.
• 41:05
Speaker 13: Thank you so much for the opportunity. You really appreciate it.
• 41:07
Speaker 3: All right, Ethan Watson Again on the question is should
• 41:10
Speaker 3: elections be a federal holiday? A couple of texts here
• 41:12
Speaker 3: text says what's the deal with elections a federal holiday?
• 41:15
Speaker 3: Who's getting the day off? Are we going to shut
• 41:17
Speaker 3: down Walmart, grocery stores and hospitals for the day or
• 41:20
Speaker 3: it will be a holiday for government workers, bankers, lawyers
• 41:23
Speaker 3: and know the jobs that recognize as federal holidays. Twelve
• 41:26
Speaker 3: days of early voting and one day of election day
• 41:28
Speaker 3: is plenty of opportunities to vote, says a Texter. Text
• 41:33
Speaker 3: says day, what difference does it make if it's a
• 41:34
Speaker 3: holiday or not. Unless you work for the government, most
• 41:37
Speaker 3: employees do not close for holidays anyway. Texter says that
• 41:42
Speaker 3: Kreuton believes election Day should be a holiday, but he's
• 41:44
Speaker 3: just too comfortable on the couch to go vote. And
• 41:47
Speaker 3: if you're wondering who the heck is Crewton, well, if
• 41:49
Speaker 3: you listen to our Friday show, we try to get
• 41:50
Speaker 3: a dog adopted from the Kenaw Charles New Main Association
• 41:53
Speaker 3: every year, and Creuton's kind of been our big, our
• 41:56
Speaker 3: big success that Hannah Gardner and I had. And from
• 41:58
Speaker 3: time to time I got to know the chef family
• 42:00
Speaker 3: that adopted Crewton and they send me pictures from time
• 42:03
Speaker 3: to time. So they sent me a picture that you
• 42:05
Speaker 3: can't see of Crewton enjoying his day off today, laying.
• 42:11
Speaker 5: Lying on the couch. Although, to be honest with the dog,
• 42:13
Speaker 5: I don't know if tomorrow is going to be any
• 42:15
Speaker 5: different either, tex says Dave Westerrogia.
• 42:17
Speaker 3: Voters have common sense and we'll elect President Trump with
• 42:20
Speaker 3: a seventy two percent margin, says a texture. All right,
• 42:24
  Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break. We're going to take a
• 42:26
Speaker 3: quick break from politics to talk about a big event
• 42:29
Speaker 3: that's happening here in the Canall Valley, Charleston, specifically on
• 42:31
Speaker 3: Thursday night. We're back after this. I'm the Voice of

• 44:14
Speaker 16: Atl Let me ask you something. Have you ever heard
• 44:16
Speaker 16: anyone tell white people not to vote? With the election
• 44:19
Speaker 16: around the corner, we all know certain folks are using
• 44:21
Speaker 16: an old play, but with new tricks to try to
• 44:23
Speaker 16: divide our community and keep black voltes from the ballot box.

• 45:27
Speaker 3: in a big event that's happening Thursday night. It's kind
• 45:30
Speaker 3: of a fashion show.
• 45:31
Speaker 5: How cool is that? In just a moment, I'm gonna
• 45:33
Speaker 5: get something. I'm gonna throw this out there. It is
• 45:35
Speaker 5: election day across West Virginia. Polls open six thirty this morning.
• 45:38
Speaker 5: They closed at seven thirty tonight.
• 45:40
Speaker 3: We'll have complete coverage locally and via the Metro News
• 45:43
Speaker 3: Radio network and ABC News starting tonight at seven oh six.
• 45:45
Speaker 3: Danny Jones and I will handle things on a local level.
• 45:48
Speaker 3: Hoppy Brad, Jeff, Chris Morgan, Kat Aaron, Dave Wilson, Kyle Wigs,
• 45:52
Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera handling all the rest. We have
• 45:54
Speaker 3: reporters stationed in all fifty five courthouses across West Virginia.
• 45:57
Speaker 3: You can follow us on air and online WVS and
• 46:00
Speaker 3: Metro News Television. And let me just say this about
• 46:03
Speaker 3: the election. This is a daviatorial by the way, we
• 46:06
Speaker 3: will elect mayors, commissioners, legislators and other offices. Of course,
• 46:10
Speaker 3: as we always do, we all know we're going to
• 46:12
Speaker 3: have at least one new congressman from West Virginia. We'll
• 46:15
Speaker 3: have a new US Senator, a new governor, Secretary of State,
• 46:18
Speaker 3: state auditor, attorney general. But at the end of the
• 46:21
Speaker 3: night and over the next couple of days, everyone's going
• 46:23
Speaker 3: to be watching the presidential race between Harris and Trump.
• 46:26
  Speaker 5: And depending on.
• 46:27
Speaker 3: Which side you fall on, one side says, if the
• 46:29
Speaker 3: other side wins, we're doomed as a nation. Let's keep
• 46:34
Speaker 3: something in mind here. Our forefathers were a heck lots
• 46:37
Speaker 3: smarter than the people running for office of the presidency,
• 46:40
Speaker 3: and probably smarter than all of us. They put in
• 46:42
Speaker 3: a system of checks and balances, So no matter who
• 46:45
Speaker 3: wins the White House, he or she not even going
• 46:48
Speaker 3: to accomplish even half of what they said they will
• 46:50
Speaker 3: do along the campaign trail. In fact, you're more likely
• 46:53
Speaker 3: to see get nothing done because of gridlock in Washington
• 46:56
Speaker 3: over the next four years. This old girl that we
• 47:00
Speaker 3: call a country has been around for two hundred and
• 47:02
Speaker 3: forty eight years. She has survived wars, Civil War, Pearl Harbor,
• 47:06
Speaker 3: nine to eleven, floods, natural disasters of all kinds. The
• 47:08
Speaker 3: Kardashians we no comments out of you Tube. We we'll
• 47:13
Speaker 3: get through this if we all keep our collective heads.
• 47:16
Speaker 3: Let's remember we're probably not going to know tonight, maybe
• 47:19
Speaker 3: even tomorrow night, who the next president is gonna be it.
• 47:23
Speaker 3: And either way, half the country is gonna be upset,
• 47:25
Speaker 3: and some were gonna say it was rigged one way
• 47:27
  Speaker 3: or the other.
• 47:28
Speaker 5: And just relax. It's not going to be at the
• 47:30
Speaker 5: end of the country as we know it.
• 47:33
Speaker 3: If either Harris or Trump is elected, we'll be fine.
• 47:36
Speaker 3: Personal note here, I've made my feelings on Donald Trump known.
• 47:39
Speaker 3: I'm no Kamala Harris fan either, But like it or not,
• 47:41
Speaker 3: one of these people is going to be called president
• 47:44
Speaker 3: come January, and that person, Trump or Harris will be
• 47:47
Speaker 3: my president. God bless all God bless the USA. But
• 47:50

Speaker 3: dot com. All right, do you mind off the election
• 48:03
Speaker 3: for a moment to tell you about an event that's
• 48:04
Speaker 3: happening Thursday night at Astrogatta in Charleston. It's called the
• 48:07
Speaker 3: Chill Coutur fashion Show and it's a fundraiser for Children's
• 48:10
Speaker 3: Theater Charleston. Lisa White a Morgan Deal, Morgan Megan Deal.
• 48:13
Speaker 3: I've only known you for twenty years. On the why
• 48:15
Speaker 3: I said, Morgan Megan Deal here to talk about ladies.
• 48:18
Speaker 3: Good morning, welcome to the show.
• 48:20
  Speaker 14: Good more morning.
• 48:20
Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
• 48:21
Speaker 3: And anything that gets me off politics just for a
• 48:23
Speaker 3: moment is a good thing. I guess so much better.
• 48:26
Speaker 3: So talk about what's going on over there? What exactly
• 48:29
Speaker 3: is this? Lisa Morgan Megan.
• 48:33
  Speaker 14: My alter ego.
• 48:34
Speaker 17: So this is a super exciting event Thursday night at Astrogatto.
• 48:37
Speaker 17: This was actually Lisa's baby, So I'm not even going
• 48:39
Speaker 17: to try to even pretend like I came up with
• 48:41
Speaker 17: this with this idea.
• 48:42
Speaker 14: Lisa came to the Children's Theater board with this idea.
• 48:45
Speaker 17: We wanted to do something that was completely off the
• 48:48
Speaker 17: regular fundraiser that we've seen throughout Charleston and a fashion show.
• 48:51
Speaker 14: We all jumped to the chance.
• 48:53
Speaker 17: We have so many great local boutiques and so Thursday
• 48:56
Speaker 17: night at Astrogatto, we are going to have the Chill
• 48:58
Speaker 17: Couture Fashion Show benefit the Children's Theater of Charleston, So
• 49:02
  Speaker 17: very exciting.
• 49:03
Speaker 5: All right, Lisa, what do you want to add to that?
• 49:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, the show's Thursday. The doors will open at six
• 49:07
Speaker 4: o'clock at storg Auto. The retailers, the local retailers that
• 49:11
Speaker 4: are participating, are going to be showing holiday fashion. So
• 49:16
Speaker 4: if you are looking to get ready for your holiday parties,
• 49:20
Speaker 4: you'll want to come and see what the latest trends are.
• 49:23
Speaker 5: So this is an actual fashion show, how I mean,
• 49:25
Speaker 5: what's the what's the format, what's it going to look like? People?
• 49:27
Speaker 17: This is a fashion show, but with an elevated twist.
• 49:30
Speaker 17: So this was another great idea that came from the
• 49:33
Speaker 17: planning committee is that we're actually going to have a
• 49:36
Speaker 17: live auction after the fashion show with different great prize packages.
• 49:39
Speaker 17: We have Charleston has shown up this year and well
• 49:42
Speaker 17: Charleston and beyond for this. For this event, we have
• 49:46
Speaker 17: so many end condonations, whether it's a stay at the
• 49:49
Speaker 17: Charleston Marriott, whether it's tickets to a great show at
• 49:52
Speaker 17: the Clay Center, an amazing SPA package that Lisa was
• 49:56
Speaker 17: able to track down, a pet package, I mean, pretty
• 50:00
Speaker 17: much something for everything. So after the fashion is done,
• 50:03
Speaker 17: then we're going to get into an old fashioned bidding
• 50:05
Speaker 17: and Lisa, do you want to tell.
• 50:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, we also have several nice vacation homes on the
• 50:12
Speaker 4: on the list, we have a home at the Greenbrier
• 50:15
  Speaker 4: Sporting Club along.
• 50:17
Speaker 5: With a v an actual home. Yes or night.
• 50:20
Speaker 4: Well, it's like three nights three nights there. Yeah, yeah,
• 50:23
Speaker 4: you can go ahead and buy home. We would that
• 50:26
Speaker 4: would be like a major, major bush for the Bush
• 50:30
Speaker 4: for the CTOC. But we have a vacation home also
• 50:34
Speaker 4: at Deep Creek Lake. And what we have decided to
• 50:37
Speaker 4: do to auction off these packages, it's going to be
• 50:40
Speaker 4: a live auction with Jimmy Strawn who will be our
• 50:42
Speaker 4: MC for the night, and we are going to do
• 50:46
Speaker 4: theater skits for each package.
• 50:48
Speaker 14: So it's going to be very entertaining.
• 50:50
Speaker 5: Talk about Children's Theater of Charleston, talk about this this group.
• 50:54
Speaker 17: So, the Children's Theater of Charleston is an amazing, amazing
• 50:57
Speaker 17: organization based here. The name is not exactly accurate because
• 51:01
Speaker 17: children from all over West Virginia participate in the children
• 51:05
Speaker 17: absolutely based in Charleston, the largest children's theater in the
• 51:09
Speaker 17: state of West Virginia, and it is something that is
• 51:11
Speaker 17: one percent and I want to I want to definitely
• 51:15
Speaker 17: hone in on this free for children.
• 51:17
Speaker 14: There is no cost to the parents, there's no cost
• 51:19
  Speaker 14: to the children.
• 51:20
Speaker 17: They can come, they can participate in professionally produced theater shows.
• 51:25
Speaker 17: So right now, our show coming up the third week
• 51:28
Speaker 17: ind of December is Frozen Junior. Mine and Lisa's daughters
• 51:31
Speaker 17: are both featured in the show. But we are passionate
• 51:34
Speaker 17: about this because we have two daughters that are into theater.
• 51:37
Speaker 14: And it's undoubtedly a lot of times.
• 51:39
Speaker 17: The arts takes the backseat to organize sports, and it's
• 51:43
Speaker 17: it's nationwide. It's no fault to anyone around here. So
• 51:46
Speaker 17: the children's theater is just one of those things that
• 51:48
Speaker 17: truly untaps into that creative mindset that some of these
• 51:54
Speaker 17: kids struggle to really express. So this fundraiser will help
• 51:59
  Speaker 17: make that more.
• 52:00
Speaker 3: And I've got information posted on my social media on
• 52:02
Speaker 3: Dave Onland Radio. You can check that out on Facebook,
• 52:05
Speaker 3: time and place. Again, as we wrap up the show, ladies.
• 52:07
Speaker 4: Ask Torgado out at South Ridge. The doors open at
• 52:10
Speaker 4: six o'clock and get your tickets. And we also have
• 52:15
Speaker 4: a Facebook page Children for your so you can get
• 52:19
  Speaker 4: the link there.
• 52:20
Speaker 5: All right, Megan, Lisa, I appreciate you being here and
• 52:22
Speaker 5: giving me a break from politics at least for like
• 52:23
Speaker 5: four or five minutes. Thanks a lot, Thank you so
• 52:25
Speaker 5: much for all right, speaking of politics, our coverage will
• 52:28
Speaker 5: begin tonight live after ABC News at seven o'clock, Myself
