Latest / Sea Hawkers Podcast: for Seattle Seahawks fans / Seahawks-Cowboys Preseason Preview: Terrion Arnold, Milroe, and Roster Battles
Transcript
- 0:10Brandan: Hello, and welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
- 0:14I'm your host, Brandan Schulze, and today I am joined by a
- 0:16couple of my good buddies.
- 0:18We've got Clinton Bonner, we've got Mr.
- 0:20Phil Lydik.
- 0:21This is almost a what if show, so I don't know why I'm doing the, the intro, but
- 0:25maybe not your traditional what if, Phil, because we're just previewing our team.
- 0:29This is the pre-season, this isn't regular season.
- 0:32Phil: That's right.
- 0:32It's real fake football is coming, but, so what if we have some football
- 0:37but we're not really previewing the Cowboys much since who knows what
- 0:41they're gonna throw on the field.
- 0:43We don't even know necessarily which players of ours will be on the field.
- 0:47Brandan: No, Clinton, it's gonna be…
- 0:48That, that's gonna be part of the excitement of finding out.
- 0:50And, you know, we got a little bit of it, a, a little bit of a
- 0:53taste last week with the Hall of Fame game, which I didn't watch.
- 0:57But- … we have actual team- This feels like today, with it being
- 1:02Thursday, we have actual games, pre-season games with real teams, not
- 1:06fake teams like the Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:09it, it feels like the actual start of pre-season tonight, Clint.
- 1:12Clinton: It does feel that way.
- 1:13We're only two days out from real football, and, boys, I, I, I'll bring
- 1:18this back up because, you know, hey, look, how about them Seahawks, right?
- 1:22Because the reason I bring this up, of course, and yes, we
- 1:24want the likes, what's- It's a
- 1:25Brandan: catchphrase that's well known to-
- 1:26Clinton: Yeah, it is
- 1:27Seahawks
- 1:28Brandan: fans.
- 1:28Clinton: You know-
- 1:28Brandan: How about them Seahawks?
- 1:29Clinton: A team that used to be called America's Team, you
- 1:31know, that used to enjoy that, but they haven't won a chip since the
- 1:34'90s, and that's the way it goes.
- 1:36Kind of like the 49ers, when you think about it in a lot of ways, right?
- 1:39I'm not sure which franchise might be, less, less of, but
- 1:44all I know is that, boys, we, I'll fly through it, that we're still the
- 1:49Super Bowl champions, not the Rams.
- 1:51Still not the Rams.
- 1:52It is us.
- 1:52We are Super Bowl champions until they take it away from us, which
- 1:56I think we have a very good shot, a very good shot of repeating.
- 2:01We are gonna get into really the folks, the players, the positions, the battles
- 2:06that we're most intrigued to look at, and we know, boys, we understand.
- 2:10Look, most players won't be playing in this game that are gonna be the starting,
- 2:15the starting 22, just the way it goes.
- 2:17But there's lots of implications for what will shape the 53 and then
- 2:22the ready squad and everything, and the depth of this team, we're gonna
- 2:25get to see that, I think, shine.
- 2:27So very excited for that, and we do have a couple of news and notes very, very
- 2:30quickly before we get into it, guys.
- 2:33The, first thing here from Gregg Bell out on Twitter, just, discussing
- 2:38that Jadarian Price, this is…
- 2:40He did not practice today.
- 2:41So we're live right now on Thursday.
- 2:43He practiced yesterday, but yesterday was really like a shirts, a T-shirt and
- 2:47helmet walkthrough from what I understand.
- 2:50Did not practice again today.
- 2:52So this is a player that I bet all three of us were like, "I can't wait to
- 2:56see Jadarian Price on Saturday night."
- 2:59Phil, we might not get to see Jadarian Price on Saturday night.
- 3:02What are you thinking, dude?
- 3:04Phil: I did not want to see him at all really-
- 3:06Clinton: Hmm
- 3:06… Phil: have our running back out there much for pre-season.
- 3:09Maybe just get him in for, you know, a couple reps on the next
- 3:13one, but I, I just don't want running backs out there getting hit.
- 3:16I mean, Mike Macdonald can't cuss out the other team if they try to hit him wrong.
- 3:20So, I'd prefer to maybe wait for the regular season
- 3:24for the most part for Price.
- 3:25Also, on the Cowboys, didn't I hear that since them boys have been
- 3:29to the championship, every other NFL team has gone since the last
- 3:33time they were in a conference, championship in, in the NFL?
- 3:37Wow.
- 3:37Is that right?
- 3:38Is that right?
- 3:39Clinton: It feels right.
- 3:40I don't know.
- 3:41I, I don't know, but it kind of feels, it's been a long time.
- 3:43Every other team?
- 3:44Phil: Ev- even the Cardinals.
- 3:46Clinton: Well, did the
- 3:47Phil: Browns go?
- 3:47Yeah, have the Browns- Right … have the Browns been since the-
- 3:49Brandan: Lions?
- 3:51Phil: Yes.
- 3:52Clinton: Hmm.
- 3:53Okay.
- 3:53Bro- I, I don't think the Browns have gone to a championship, right?
- 3:57Phil: They used to go all the time when they would lose to
- 3:58LA and stuff, but that's a while
- 3:59Clinton: back.
- 4:00Right, right.
- 4:00But that was, like, '80s whatever with Kosar, right?
- 4:03So I-
- 4:03Phil: Maybe it's just the NFC Could be Maybe I need to look it up.
- 4:06Maybe it's just the NFC.
- 4:07Clinton: Yeah.
- 4:08Well, that sounds like a Cowboys problem to me.
- 4:10Brandan, if we don't have Jadarian Price, you happy or sad?
- 4:13Are you okay with, "Hey, the dude just needs to rest maybe"?
- 4:17Brandan: I, it's, it's more of a thing of I really want to see it,
- 4:21but I don't know if I have to see it, if that makes any sense.
- 4:26I Because I guess where I'm more concerned about the running back depth
- 4:34is a little bit further down the chart.
- 4:36Hmm.
- 4:36So it's, it's pre-season game one.
- 4:39I know I want to see everybody out there, but, my expectations based
- 4:45on previous seasons has been set, and I, I just want everybody to be
- 4:50ready and healthy to go come week one.
- 4:52Clinton: Yeah.
- 4:52We're gonna get a heavy day…
- 4:54a heavy dose of, down, down the chart, running backs, but it's actually,
- 4:58I think, a pretty good sneaky room.
- 5:00The other piece that we have here is, that Puka Nacua,
- 5:04started practice again today and then left practice again today.
- 5:07So pulled out again.
- 5:08This is…
- 5:10It's basically a, a…
- 5:11Before they were saying, you know, I think they were saying, like, back
- 5:14or whatever it was last week, but it's, it's clearly now a hip flexor from what
- 5:18the doctors are saying out there on, on Twitter and the folks that are reporting.
- 5:22And, you know, s- seems minor and all that jazz, but, look, and
- 5:26we don't play them till Christmas.
- 5:28I…
- 5:28But, you know, reporting on Nacua's health and his very tumultuous
- 5:33off-season, Phil, it's a…
- 5:35And the way the Rams have to start the season, their
- 5:37first five games are not easy.
- 5:40you know, maybe this team is just a little bit old, and maybe,
- 5:44Phil, they shouldn't be crowned Super Bowl champions in August.
- 5:48I don't know.
- 5:49Phil: I mean, I don't know if the Rams are old, but Josh talks about
- 5:52Puka could miss the entire season in chat there, and he wouldn't cry.
- 5:56You know, most of the time I don't want anybody to be hurt or I feel
- 6:00bad if they're hurt, but, but people that bite other individuals, I just
- 6:04don't really care if they're hurt.
- 6:06In fact, he's one of the hardest guys for us to defend, so if, if
- 6:10he's out, I, I mean, I'm fine if he misses the end of the season.
- 6:13He can come and play for a few weeks, but if he misses the end of the season, I
- 6:16won't be sad one bit, honestly, Clinton.
- 6:18Brandan: Yeah.
- 6:19Also, if we're gonna go with a nickname for Puka, I, I think
- 6:22you have to go Nacua over Puka.
- 6:26Phil: Yeah.
- 6:26Nacua.
- 6:27Yeah.
- 6:27Puka, Nacua.
- 6:27I don't
- 6:28Brandan: know.
- 6:28I like, I like Nacua better.
- 6:29I…
- 6:30We can, we can leave out the, the pukiness.
- 6:33But, we have breaking news, guys.
- 6:35We do.
- 6:35Jordan Schultz just tweeted out that the Seahawks are expected to
- 6:39sign Terrion Arnold, and we saw that- Whoa … at the end of Hard Knocks.
- 6:43How about that?
- 6:44So,- Whoo … how, how are we feeling about that news?
- 6:48Because I, I think that- It's interesting that they brought him in.
- 6:53We, we've, I know we've had some discussions in Discord about the number
- 6:57of- Yeah … charges that are facing, Terrion Arnold and, or that
- 7:03Arnold is facing and how he might…
- 7:06He's, he's someone who may not be available because the NFL could
- 7:10say, "Hey, you're, you're on the non-football injury list" and, so
- 7:15Seahawks rolling the dice a little bit.
- 7:17And I don't know, Phil, does that say something about our cornerback depth and,
- 7:22that they're bringing in someone like Arnold to, and, and whether or not we
- 7:27see him in the first preseason game now?
- 7:29Phil: A lot to unpack with what you implied there, Brandan, but you
- 7:32know in Discord you and I were bringing up the fact that if John's interested
- 7:37in bringing in this particular corner, he seems kinda concerned.
- 7:42There's, there's a lot of signs that he's getting something from the coaching
- 7:46staff that we need to get another guy that can get some real snaps out there.
- 7:51Not that they won't play the guys that they have if that's what they
- 7:54get, but they obviously tipped off John that an upgrade would be great.
- 7:58Also, an opportunity like this doesn't just come along so easily
- 8:02right before the season where you have a player that can really play
- 8:06is available, and it's sometime early October, early October until he's
- 8:11gonna stand before the judge and get some idea of how his case is gonna go.
- 8:16You would hope the NFL would wait to pass judgment until judgment
- 8:20has been passed, so to speak.
- 8:23And maybe John has some kind of indication, or they're gonna write
- 8:26it into the contract in some kinda way, you know, to, to be ready s-
- 8:31in case something like that happens.
- 8:32Obviously they'd have to make some allowances, risk it a little bit,
- 8:35or he could've been signed by the Giants, somewhere else like that.
- 8:38Maybe Milroe had something to say about encouraging him to come here,
- 8:41this is the right place to play.
- 8:43There's all kinds of things we don't know.
- 8:44We just kinda try to guess based on the breadcrumbs that we have.
- 8:48But player-wise, I think this is an upgrade for us.
- 8:51I did want him if he, if he isn't a felon, right?
- 8:55Then I did want him.
- 8:57Clinton: Yeah.
- 8:57that's, that's awesome.
- 8:59I think in, in the sense that, hey, the, it's super low risk and if it turns
- 9:04out that they just can't play him for legal reasons, then, you know, I'm sure
- 9:08contractually that they'll, that's it.
- 9:09They'll let him, they'll let him g- they'll walk.
- 9:11Yeah.
- 9:12but I think, I think he gives you a very intriguing player, all the talent's
- 9:16there, and you don't often get a chance to go get what is first round caliber
- 9:22talent at a proven blue chip school that was taken in the first round where the
- 9:27Lions traded, they traded up for him.
- 9:30They, I think they- Yeah … traded up like five spots to go get him.
- 9:32That's right.
- 9:32They were surprised he was there still.
- 9:34And, so all those things, this is not an old dude.
- 9:38This is the 2024 draft we're talking about, right?
- 9:40So not very often you get a, you get a, basically a free square on what's a
- 9:45blue chip line- c- cornerback in a cornerback world, guys, where
- 9:51Gonzo's holding out for more money, still, you know, like not, not resigning
- 9:56his, his extension and the rumor is he wants to be like prepaid with like
- 10:00inflation baked in, in some contractual thing that keeps him at the top.
- 10:05So Spoon's agent is the same as Gonzo's agent- Yeah … so, now
- 10:10Spoon's not saying that or his side's not saying it, but it is interesting
- 10:14that Gonzalez's agent is saying it.
- 10:17and as far as I know, contracts don't work like that, Brandan.
- 10:21I'm not sure you just keep getting, you know, I- I'm first always.
- 10:24I'm not sure that's how it works.
- 10:26Brandan: Not always.
- 10:26But, y- you said all the talent in the world, but obviously Arnold
- 10:31didn't have enough talent that the Lions were willing to hang on to him.
- 10:34They, they had, they saw the reports, they knew the charges, and
- 10:38then they decided to let him go.
- 10:40So, obviously maybe not the level of t- you see some teams stick around
- 10:45with a guy who, has significant charges and, a- and decide to let
- 10:51the legal process play out, right?
- 10:53We've seen that before.
- 10:54Shoot- Yeah … I think we're watching that with, with
- 10:57Puka down with the Rams, right?
- 10:59So, and then- I think there was- … obviously those charges
- 11:02not as serious maybe- Yeah … as, a- as, Terrion Arnold's.
- 11:06But I think the reason why you bring him in is to decide whether or not…
- 11:12I, I, I've talked to folks that do a lot s- of draft evaluation, right?
- 11:16And one of the things that teams seem to look for is if a guy has something
- 11:22in his past, you wanna find out if, the, and, and, if they're kind of a
- 11:28knucklehead or if they're a, a bad dude.
- 11:31Clinton: Yeah.
- 11:32Brandan: Yeah.
- 11:32And I think that- This signals to us that at least they're, they're comfortable
- 11:39with the idea that, yeah, okay, there might be some knuckleheadedness that
- 11:43led to felony charges, but maybe he's not a bad dude level of felony charges.
- 11:49So they're willing to, again, based on depth and- Yeah … the culture that they
- 11:53have, and maybe John Schneider feels like, "Hey, I've got some, equity built up
- 11:58here coming off of a Super Bowl win that I can go ahead and make a move like this."
- 12:03And among the fan base, yeah, there's probably gonna be some people
- 12:06scratching their heads, but, based on what we've done, yeah, I- I've
- 12:12built up a, a little equity here.
- 12:14Phil: Yeah.
- 12:14My wish cast is the Lions just leapt to a bunch of conclusions
- 12:17and like, "Oh, this is really bad.
- 12:19We gotta get him away from our, our team brand, team name," and
- 12:22right away they just snap judgment.
- 12:24And then Schneider started hearing from a lot of people that this is a
- 12:27good character guy, maybe got caught up in a situation, got emotional.
- 12:31Hopefully there's some lesson learning.
- 12:33If you ever hear Arnold talk in kind of his manner, he has a lot
- 12:36of Spoon mentality to him actually.
- 12:38I mean, obviously Spoon's got a impeccable character and history.
- 12:42with Arnold doesn't necessarily have that right now, but the
- 12:45energy there is very exciting.
- 12:48And some of the tape, there, there's a ceiling.
- 12:50I agree with Josh though.
- 12:51It's not like they're just…
- 12:52And I don't think it'll happen.
- 12:53It's not like they're just gonna hand him cornerback three spot, but they're
- 12:55gonna say, "We need some competition here.
- 12:57Go out and prove it that you're ready to, to be that CB3," 'cause CB3 gets
- 13:02about 70-ish percent of the snaps.
- 13:04It's a very, very important position on our team.
- 13:06It is.
- 13:07Brandan: Yeah, and a post here from Jordan Schultz, who broke the news
- 13:10about the signing, just a few minutes ago, says, "Terrion Arnold is
- 13:14close friends with Seahawks quarterback Jalen Milroe, who gave the organization
- 13:18positive reviews about the type of person Arnold would be in the Seattle building
- 13:23and how he would fit their culture."
- 13:25Clinton: Love it.
- 13:26Love,
- 13:26Brandan: yeah.
- 13:27There you know Milroe had- All good … did have a little bit to do with that.
- 13:29Clinton: I did see you flash this on screen earlier, but I
- 13:31wanna, you know, about our culture- Nice … got, got ZeroHawk here, a
- 13:34great, human in, in his own right.
- 13:37So Mark, thank you.
- 13:37A $10 Super Chat, and he's, you know, he under- he feels the pain,
- 13:41guys, as being a Seahawks fan.
- 13:42He says, "I am stoked.
- 13:44It seems so long since we hoisted the Lombardi.
- 13:47Can't wait to see our depth and rookies shine."
- 13:50And I think thank you, Mark.
- 13:52That's amazing.
- 13:52We appreciate you, and I think that is a perfect segue to take us into
- 13:56the topic of the show, guys, which is we do play a game in two days.
- 14:00I doubt, Terrion Arnold will play.
- 14:03I can't imagine he's ready that, that quickly.
- 14:05I don't know.
- 14:06maybe, but I, I don't think so.
- 14:08we'll see.
- 14:09But we do have lots of other players that we'll be getting that are either
- 14:13rookies or maybe second or third-year guys that may be getting their chance
- 14:17to make that impression on the field.
- 14:19And hey, everything we've seen so far in camp, all the good buzz, all the,
- 14:24all the storylines, a lot of times happening without pads, always happening
- 14:29where you can't actually go full tilt.
- 14:31We all saw that with Derick Hall getting a little too close for
- 14:34comfort for Macdonald's sake with, with, quarterback Sam Darnold.
- 14:38But now they get to go hit for real.
- 14:41So i- it's some players just turn it on when the lights turn on, and-
- 14:45Brandan: Yeah … we're gonna see.
- 14:47But how much are we gonna see Derick Hall?
- 14:48I hope we at least get to get him out there for a couple snaps just so he
- 14:50can get some of that energy out that's, that's been building up through camp.
- 14:54Clinton: That's funny.
- 14:54We, we probably won't see one snap of Derick Hall, but if we do, let
- 14:59him, let him get a sack, or let him, let him get it all out there.
- 15:01Let him do Minotaur-like things.
- 15:04We probably won't get a s- a single snap of Derick Hall, but that's okay.
- 15:07Well, where do you guys wanna take it first?
- 15:09I mean, is there particular players, sides of the ball, position groups?
- 15:13Phil, this is, kind of a pseudo what if, so why don't you take honors?
- 15:18who are you most interested in really studying and monitoring on Saturday?
- 15:22Phil: Well, I got a lot of things circled, but it turns out the one with
- 15:25the biggest circle, it's the same name I had going into preseason last year.
- 15:29And I'm, I, I guess if we wanna start right there, who do we
- 15:32wanna see most in preseason?
- 15:34It's our quarterback that's trying to ascend.
- 15:36I think Jalen Milroe, we're hearing some good things.
- 15:39Let's see what kind of improvements Milroe has made by being on the team for a year,
- 15:44getting some NFL coaching, maybe learning to spin it from Sam a little bit, how
- 15:49to handle, some things at the line.
- 15:51I just kinda, I kinda wanna see his leadership out there on the field.
- 15:55I wanna see his decision-making.
- 15:57I'm not so much to think- That all these players, I do have a lot of
- 16:02them where they're direct competition, 'cause it's all we're gonna get to see.
- 16:05But I'm not so much to think that the pre-season games we get to see will fully
- 16:09determine who makes the roster or even be the biggest piece of who makes the roster.
- 16:14So I'm not watching it like that other than just to discover some things.
- 16:18But Milroe fascinates me because it could mean a lot of good things
- 16:21for our future if he's showing himself to have, NFL chops.
- 16:25He won't get his starting line, he's not gonna get to throw to JSN.
- 16:29There's no way, you know, he's gonna y- gonna throw to really the top guys.
- 16:33But how he's handling, how he's spinning it, I think there's a lot to see from
- 16:36Milroe on these pre-season games.
- 16:39Brandan: Yeah, I think that's a, a great starting spot because
- 16:43as we've heard some of the…
- 16:45It, it seems like, and Adam's pointed this out in multiple shows, throughout
- 16:49the off season, it seems like every time there's a trade conversation that, "Oh,
- 16:53the Seahawks should make a trade," it's bec- it's Milroe that's a part of it.
- 16:56And, that seems a little bit silly, but I, it al- it does speak to the idea
- 17:02of there's, there are still a lot of teams out there that need a quarterback.
- 17:07Yeah.
- 17:07And so if we are quarterback rich, this'll be the time to find out just how wealthy
- 17:14we are in terms of quarterback depth.
- 17:16If Jalen Milroe comes in and is, you know, putting up big numbers in
- 17:21year number two in the pre-season- Yeah
- 17:23then that, that could help, bolster the argument that we've heard
- 17:27from people that, "Oh, well maybe we need to get draft capital for him."
- 17:30Phil: How good of a pick would you have to get to b- make
- 17:32you interested though, Brandan?
- 17:35Brandan: Oh,
- 17:35Phil: I mean- You're not getting anything more than like a seventh
- 17:36for the hose or a sixth from a needy teams, and that doesn't matter.
- 17:40So how much for Milroe before you start to be
- 17:42Brandan: interested?
- 17:43Oh, there's the…
- 17:43I d- I don't think that a team would be willing to offer up enough
- 17:47to where it would really make sense for where the team is at.
- 17:50I, I think that, yeah, unless…
- 17:54I, having a valuable backup quarterback or having a, just a competent
- 17:58backup quarterback is valuable.
- 18:00Which we have.
- 18:02And- Yeah … we have that in Drew Lock, so- Yeah … it,
- 18:04it does make it expendable.
- 18:05But I, we haven't had a, a quarterback that- We've really been interested
- 18:12in developing for … You can't even really count it with Russ
- 18:17because he developed so quickly that he was our starting quarterback.
- 18:21Clinton: No.
- 18:22Phil: No, that's right.
- 18:23Clinton: I'd be, I'm, I'm, I'm totally team let's not move,
- 18:27let's not move on from Milroe.
- 18:28if he sizzles in the preseason, I brought this up last time, maybe it,
- 18:33maybe you start to examine if you can move Locke to a very needy team that
- 18:37needs a, needs a really good backup.
- 18:39but again, Phil, like you're saying, how much are
- 18:42you actually gonna get for him?
- 18:43most likely scenario, we just have our three dudes.
- 18:46What I wanna see from Milroe, and it sounds like he's gonna get a, you
- 18:49know, a, a plenty of time to go play on Saturday- Yeah … which is awesome.
- 18:53Phil: Yeah.
- 18:53Clinton: You know, what I wanna see is I think he could process.
- 18:56I, I think, Adam did a great job and, and Brandan you as well when you
- 18:59guys covered a couple years ago, that Milroe could process pretty well.
- 19:03He has the skillset, and it looks like he's evolved and gotten, gotten sharper
- 19:07as people are saying in this, this off-season versus last off-season.
- 19:12Things have slowed down a little bit.
- 19:13All good.
- 19:15look, I think Milroe uses the middle of the field very nicely.
- 19:18I think he's got enough accuracy Sometimes it's that lack of touch.
- 19:23That's like the, the one thing that I'd like to see, the, the,
- 19:28the, the touch passes towards the outside, outside the hashes.
- 19:32Inside, you wanna zip it in.
- 19:33You're not really doing touch too many times between the hashes.
- 19:36You just gotta drill the ball in there.
- 19:38the outs and the flat stuff, drilling the ball in there, no problem.
- 19:42I'd like to see that next like thing click where everything doesn't have
- 19:46to be like on an absolute, you know, line drive from deep shortstop.
- 19:50You know, that's gotta- That's right … get there.
- 19:51Just a little bit of touch on the things to the outside, and I think
- 19:55we're seeing it in, at the VMac, and now we gotta see it under the lights.
- 19:59If we see that click also, and then a little bit more, awareness and
- 20:04progression, not bailing so soon, cool.
- 20:06I don't think he gets fearful and bails on a pocket like, you
- 20:10know, some quarterbacks might.
- 20:11Phil: Yeah.
- 20:12Clinton: I think he's got such great legs that if he doesn't see
- 20:14his one or two, he's confident he can go get five, six yards.
- 20:18Not a bad thing, but in the NFL, if it breaks down a little bit and
- 20:22you could give yourself literally another half second or second,
- 20:27dudes do come unglued and get open.
- 20:28So let's just see.
- 20:29Like, it's gonna be a lot of fun to see, to see what he can do, and
- 20:33I'll quickly s- flip it over here.
- 20:35Not, not that we're gonna talk about the Cowboys too much, but I
- 20:38think it'd be remiss not to mention that we might get a healthy dose
- 20:41of seeing Caleb Downs out there.
- 20:43Mm.
- 20:43And the Caleb Downs buzz about him at safety position, he
- 20:48kind of fell to the Cowboys.
- 20:50You know, O- Ohio State standout.
- 20:52Everything that you go read about him is like they wanna use
- 20:55him as like their Iman Worley.
- 20:58So it'll just be…
- 20:58He's number 13.
- 20:59Mm.
- 21:00Yeah.
- 21:00It'll be very interesting to be watching a top, top tier rookie,
- 21:04and how will they deploy him?
- 21:06And if, and if Milroe's a- out there, can, can he get the better of
- 21:11Caleb Downs in a couple of matchups?
- 21:13just something to watch on the other side of the ball, too, guys.
- 21:15Brandan: I can't believe you brought up Caleb Downs' name as someone to
- 21:19watch before we even get to mention Bud Clark, who was- Well, it's,
- 21:21Clinton: it's
- 21:21Brandan: the-
- 21:22our second overall pick in the- In- … in our rookie
- 21:25Clinton: class … in, in the system of watching how our quarterback does
- 21:30against a guy that I think is a legit Iman Worley type player, so 'cause they could-
- 21:35I- … cause a lot of, lot of tumult.
- 21:37Phil: But something you said, Clinton, I love watching how a
- 21:41quarterback's ball gets to a receiver.
- 21:43I always have.
- 21:43Mm.
- 21:43And they kind of highlighted that on, a little bit, in Hard Knocks in a way.
- 21:47Sam's ball, Gino's ball, they just…
- 21:50And Russ had it.
- 21:50You know, the, the guys that- connect with their receivers.
- 21:54They know how to make the ball at the catch point be nice and catchable.
- 21:59You hear these guys, "He, he's hit them in the hands.
- 22:02Why didn't he hit, why didn't he catch it?"
- 22:03Well, yeah, an NFL receiver should catch what hits him in the hands, but
- 22:06there is something different about a guy that just knows, and I'd like to see
- 22:10Milroe get to that, to where there's…
- 22:12You just see when the receiver goes, the ball's…
- 22:15I, I can't describe it perfectly, but it, it has a good rotation.
- 22:19It has, like, a drop at this is where it's supposed to get
- 22:22to the receiver at this point.
- 22:23It's not going through them like you're punching through somebody.
- 22:26It's getting to the receiver at that spot.
- 22:29I would really like to see some of that more from Milroe, and that's what
- 22:32you meant by touch, I'm pretty sure.
- 22:33Clinton: Yeah.
- 22:33That, that, that's absolutely it.
- 22:35It is that arrival point- Yes … 'cause we watched last
- 22:37year with, like, Sam and JSN.
- 22:39By the time the ball, yeah, by the time the ball's landing in JSN's, like, basket,
- 22:44it looks, it, it looks easy to haul in.
- 22:47Phil: Yeah.
- 22:48Clinton: And it's, it's cl- evidence that, the Seahawks
- 22:51receivers feel the same.
- 22:52So it'll be very, very fun to, to watch.
- 22:55Now, like, look, I'll, I'll bring up another Cowboy.
- 22:57You know who threw a nice ball like that who, who was a Hall of Famer?
- 23:00Troy Aikman.
- 23:00Troy Aikman threw a ball that was like, that thing just lands and it, it
- 23:03lands- Yeah … the right kind of way.
- 23:05So, I'm
- 23:06Brandan: done- I understand that we're playing the Cowboys, but like-
- 23:08Clinton: I'm done talking about
- 23:09Brandan: Cowboys.
- 23:09we've, we've talked enough about the Cowboys already.
- 23:12I want to see, this is our first chance that we're getting to
- 23:15see- Yeah … our Seahawks live on television in the preseason.
- 23:19I, I, the, the things I'm watching on the Cowboys sideline are l- almost zero-
- 23:25… compared to what I wanna see because- I
- 23:27Phil: thought he was gonna say something, but then he-
- 23:29Clinton: Yeah, me too.
- 23:29But the, but, but it's, yeah, but he d- he didn't go there.
- 23:31Who
- 23:31Phil: he was gonna watch on the Cowboys sideline, but the,
- 23:34that this isn't an Dallas show.
- 23:34I think, yes, the- Maybe he won't
- 23:35… Clinton: yes, the Cowboy cheerleaders, for sure.
- 23:37The, the Cowgirls, I believe they're called.
- 23:39All right, let's talk- They aren't
- 23:40Brandan: bringing them to Seattle.
- 23:41I know.
- 23:41We
- 23:41Clinton: have our own, so.
- 23:41Let's
- 23:42Phil: talk- What about Neal, Brandan?
- 23:43That's who you wanna talk…
- 23:44Are you, no, you wanna talk about Clark, right?
- 23:46I wanna
- 23:46Brandan: talk about Clark, yeah.
- 23:47Okay,
- 23:47Phil: do Clark.
- 23:48Brandan: Well, well, s- that's what I was getting to, and I, I think part of seeing
- 23:52what Bud Clark offers in this game, it also is in part due to how much or how
- 24:00little we see of Tayo Cara because- Mm-hmm
- 24:03yeah, one of the things, we just generally don't see a lot of starters- Yeah … get
- 24:08snaps within the preseason, and Tayo Cara expected to be that guy who comes
- 24:12in and, and fills that Kobe Bryant role.
- 24:15But has he b- established himself enough to miss out on too many
- 24:21snaps within the preseason?
- 24:22I- I think so … I think how man- I think so, too, but I think it'll
- 24:26be, if we don't see him at all, I, I think that tells us something, right?
- 24:31It tells us- Yeah … that he has established himself enough that if he's
- 24:35getting the, the same number of snaps as the starters, which may be zero, then,
- 24:42he's, he's with that crowd as well.
- 24:44So, seeing Bud Clark out there and how many snaps he might get.
- 24:48B- just because, yeah, he was our top defensive player that we selected, and
- 24:54on a team that is stacked on defense.
- 24:56Like, that, that part legitimately excites me, is I, I wanna see Bud
- 25:02Clark out there and what they see, what Coach Macdonald has seen in him.
- 25:07Are, are we going to see him in a similar light as a, a Nick Emmanwori
- 25:14type, or are we gonna see him, more- Well, if- … of a traditional safety?
- 25:19I, I, I wanna see exactly what type of role, and maybe we aren't gonna get
- 25:24enough of that really within the- Oh
- 25:26preseason, but, I, I just wanna see some hints at it.
- 25:31Phil: What do you think, Clinton?
- 25:32What, what do you think we're gonna get from Bud?
- 25:33I, I…
- 25:34Do, do we think he's redshirting a little bit this year?
- 25:36Do you think the plan is we hope he's not getting a lot of snaps,
- 25:40and that if he does, that means, one of our starters is hurt?
- 25:43Or do you think the expectation is he's gonna be playing a lot?
- 25:46Clinton: I don't, at, at this point, I don't think the expectation is that
- 25:50he'll be playing a lot this year.
- 25:52Yeah.
- 25:52I d- I don't think so.
- 25:54so I think it might be a little premature if, if he ends up on the
- 25:57field quite a bit, I think it's probably due to, due to some injury.
- 26:01Yeah.
- 26:01but with that, you know, what do I…
- 26:04Look, what I wanna s- what, what I wanna see from safeties is
- 26:07usually very, very consistent.
- 26:09For me, l- safeties like Kobe Bryant were extraordinarily good about, like, not
- 26:16letting stuff behind him- Yeah … making plays on the ball when he had chances.
- 26:21Enough of a thumper.
- 26:22He wasn't a huge thumper, but enough of a tackler and a sure tackler.
- 26:26And then when he needs to run fit, he was, he's very sound, right?
- 26:29So I, the biggest thing I could see from Bud Clark is like,
- 26:33okay, A, don't get burnt over the top because you're a safety.
- 26:38Yeah.
- 26:38But also, I know that's simple, but don't let that happen to you.
- 26:41But I, more importantly, I'm like, are you coming down the line and
- 26:44hitting people when you need to?
- 26:46Like, are you bringing your hat?
- 26:47Are you a short, you sh- you know, short enough tackler?
- 26:49Are you, when you're coming down there, are you able to shed, shed dudes that
- 26:54might be a tight end or a wide receiver on you, or a guard that's trying to get to
- 26:58a second level and, you know, you're kind of s- a safety kinda crash down the box?
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:04Are you able to shed those, meaningfully and stick your
- 27:07hat in there and make tackles?
- 27:09Because for me, on a Mike Macdonald defense, you have
- 27:12got to be able to do that.
- 27:14And, the rest of the athleticism of a safety, I think he's got that in spades.
- 27:18So I wanna just see that kind of toughness about him coming down and
- 27:22making some plays and making some tackles.
- 27:25Phil: Here's what I wanna say about Bud.
- 27:27My expectation, because this isn't on Amazon, is that we don't wanna see him
- 27:31a lot because if we don't see him a lot, he's probably doing a fairly good job.
- 27:36When you see a safety on the way, they annoyingly still just give you
- 27:40a tiny piece of football even though we have these awesome, you know, 21st
- 27:45century giant screen TVs on our wall.
- 27:48They still zoom in where all you see is the line of scrimmage, and the short
- 27:51outs, and the quarterback instead of the field where all the football's happening.
- 27:56When you see the safety, most of the time it's not a good thing, especially
- 28:01if he's gonna be playing deep safety.
- 28:02So if we don't see Bud out there a lot even though he's in, that's probably good.
- 28:07It is nice on run plays to see that he knows where to fit, so you see
- 28:10him come up and not out of place.
- 28:12It is nice if there's a deep ball that they're trying that you see
- 28:15him in the location he needs to be.
- 28:17most of the time if we saw Kobe, it's 'cause he was making a play.
- 28:21A lot of the times you didn't see him all game unless it happened to be on
- 28:23Amazon where they show football properly.
- 28:26Clinton: Yeah, it is pretty cool.
- 28:27The Prime Vision is dope.
- 28:28And real quick on safeties, year two, Max and Hook, who is from Toledo,
- 28:32so Toledo ended up becoming this place where DBs are blossoming.
- 28:36Just, just a guy to watch.
- 28:38If you don't know Max and Hook yet, it's just, hey, you're
- 28:41gonna see him on Saturday.
- 28:43So if you're out there and you're like, "Who the heck is Hook?"
- 28:45Well, second year, Toledo guy, and rumors in camp are he's, he's pushing.
- 28:51He's pushing to be the backup, versus Bud at this point.
- 28:56And then you always got steak and beer D'Anthony Bell who plays flex.
- 28:59He'll play, he'll play corner, he'll play…
- 29:00You know, they kind of flex him around, so-
- 29:02Phil: Special
- 29:02Clinton: teams … we'll s-
- 29:02Phil: Yeah.
- 29:03Clinton: Yeah, we'll see what the mix is that they're gonna
- 29:04do between Clark, Hook, Bell.
- 29:07Look, you mentioned Ty Okada earlier, Brandan.
- 29:10Mm.
- 29:10I think we're w- frankly pretty darn thin at the, at that position.
- 29:15I don't wanna see Okada take a snap.
- 29:17I…
- 29:17No, thank you.
- 29:18I'd rather see Price take a snap over Okada.
- 29:21Brandan: Yeah.
- 29:21I, I don't think we'll see him much, but, gosh, just listening to Okada
- 29:27through the pre-season, it's,…
- 29:30That I, we have another Montana guy to root for, which makes me happy.
- 29:33Phil: Okay.
- 29:34Clinton: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:35We, it's always good to have more Montana boys.
- 29:37They tend to play pretty good football.
- 29:39Hard nose, for sure.
- 29:40Brandan: All right, so we got, we, we, we've got Phil's first, we've got
- 29:44mine, and, that leaves you, Clinton.
- 29:47Who, who is the top name that-
- 29:49Clinton: Oh
- 29:50Brandan: that you're looking to watch-
- 29:51Clinton: Yeah … on Saturday?
- 29:52Brandan: So,
- 29:52Clinton: like you guys know me.
- 29:54so- Right … it's obviously third-string, Cowboys quarterback
- 29:59and Seahawks legend Sam Howell.
- 30:00He was, he's gonna … We're gonna see him.
- 30:02So, no, the, there's a couple, but I really wanna see Mason Richman.
- 30:07Okay.
- 30:07And-
- 30:07Phil: Yeah, I
- 30:08have
- 30:08Clinton: him circled
- 30:09yeah, and the reason being is, I, I don't know, or I don't think he's
- 30:14gonna challenge, Bradford for that right guard position.
- 30:18Phil: No, no.
- 30:19Clinton: You know, I, I just, it doesn't seem like that's the leap that's
- 30:21happening quite yet, but in the scrum that is that, the Cabell Due, you know-
- 30:27Yeah … area o- of the team, it appears that Richman is, accelerating.
- 30:33And frankly, Christian- Yeah … Hayes, Haynes is still hanging around,
- 30:35our, our UConn guy, year three.
- 30:37So I wanna kinda see both of them and try to get a, a, just a, a sizing of who's
- 30:44got the best shot to be the next man up.
- 30:47Because- Yeah … it's the NFL.
- 30:49At some point, very likely, knock on all the woods, one of the five dudes that are
- 30:54starters are gonna have a week or two off.
- 30:56Phil: Oh,
- 30:57Clinton: yeah.
- 30:57That's typically what happens.
- 30:59It's very, very rare that you would go clean the entire
- 31:01year with your starting five.
- 31:02We know Josh Jones came in last year as a swing tackle and played
- 31:06phenomenally well when Cross went out.
- 31:08And it, it would be really nice to see both Haynes and Richman
- 31:14play at, like, a solid level throughout, throughout the game.
- 31:17So Brandan, that's it for me, man.
- 31:18I think, I think Mason Richman's the one dude I really wanna see the most of.
- 31:23Mm-hmm.
- 31:24Brandan: Yeah, I like the idea of seeing Richman.
- 31:27I, I guess when I, I go to…
- 31:31We, we've seen a little bit of him, so when it comes to the
- 31:34offensive linemen, we only have one rookie, and that's Bo Stevens.
- 31:37Yeah.
- 31:38Phil: Mm-hmm.
- 31:38Brandan: And, and so he's probably the number one guy for me just
- 31:43because I haven't seen him yet, and I wanna see- Yeah … what Bo Stevens
- 31:45is about there, about out there.
- 31:48Phil: Well, there's only gonna be so many backups.
- 31:50I mean, Josh says it on here that Haynes has it locked up.
- 31:52I'm thinking here, we got Bo Stevens, Mason Richman, Bryce Cabell Due,
- 31:58Olu Olawotimi- Christian Haynes, two of those guys probably are
- 32:03not going to be on the roster.
- 32:06And, and when Adam and I did the show about the sophomores, we talked
- 32:09about Richman and Cabell-Doo.
- 32:11I wasn't…
- 32:12I kinda like them both, but I'm leaning more Richman is gonna make
- 32:16it and Cabell-Doo might be trying to get on the practice squad or he
- 32:19might be snagged by somebody else.
- 32:21Olu is a solid center, but future-wise it's concerning to give up on three guys
- 32:27that we all think could be solid backups.
- 32:30That backup interior lineman position is super important.
- 32:34I mean, having all three of them play all season, that would be
- 32:37just getting a Yahtzee over and over, in a Yahtzee game.
- 32:41It's just highly unlikely.
- 32:42So who that's gonna be is very, very important.
- 32:45It's someone that's gonna get meaningful snaps.
- 32:47So I had that circled with all those guys.
- 32:49I'm just wondering of those five which three are gonna make the
- 32:54roster, and so maybe the preseason will help us get a little tip on that
- 32:58Brandan: Yeah, if I had to, I, I never really cared for what
- 33:03I saw from Cabell do even-
- 33:04Phil: Yeah,
- 33:05Brandan: okay … before he was drafted by the team.
- 33:07he was one of the guys that- So first round
- 33:09we s- saw at Shrine Bowl and, you know, he had some athletic
- 33:13upside, but it wasn't anything that I think- So then it's- … stood
- 33:18out even in the preseason last year.
- 33:19So, yeah, obviously, Richman hit my radar- It's over … when,
- 33:25th- he, he didn't win the sledgehammer competition, but,- … I, I
- 33:29think based on his shakiness early on, he, he ended up, hanging
- 33:34on well enough that,- Totally
- 33:36you know, when we watched him on Hard Knocks holding up those sledgehammers
- 33:38that, that got me, a little more interested in Richman.
- 33:42But
- 33:42Phil: he looked, he looked good against Mills though, right?
- 33:45I mean, he really held up on the actual blocking portion.
- 33:48Yeah.
- 33:48Mills wasn't getting where Mills wanted to go, right?
- 33:51Right.
- 33:51Yeah.
- 33:51Clinton: Yeah, for sure, and that one-on-one c- like, you know, it's a clear
- 33:55win by Richman, but- Yeah … that's the reports have been that he's,
- 33:58Richman has looked like one of the better dudes in the one-on-one drills.
- 34:02Which if you're an offensive lineman, the one-on-ones are, those are actually
- 34:06really important, you know, drills.
- 34:07That's like, okay, you're going up against this dude, you know, mano a
- 34:10mano, and you don't have any support.
- 34:13There's no chips, hence one-on-one.
- 34:15so and Richman seemingly is, is doing well in, in drills like that.
- 34:21So again, let's see how, if he can translate it.
- 34:24Yes, he's a y- a year two guy, but, you know, didn't get too
- 34:27much, too much play last year.
- 34:29boys, would you mind if we rotate over to another blocking
- 34:33type player, for a second?
- 34:34Before we get
- 34:34Brandan: there, I, I need to address- Are you doing the one I want
- 34:36Phil: to do next?
- 34:37Clinton: Maybe.
- 34:37I
- 34:37Brandan: need to address Michael Knight in the comments because- Okay.
- 34:39… he says, "I want to win the debate with Brandan.
- 34:41Bo, baby, I need some Stephens.
- 34:43Will he unseat our starting right guard?"
- 34:46And Michael- I- … I'm, I, I'm talking about, Stephens even showing up as
- 34:51being able to stick around as a backup.
- 34:53Like I'm not looking at him as, at taking over,- Yeah … the,
- 34:57right guard spot from Anthony Bradford.
- 34:59Now that would be great if he does show up that way.
- 35:01Like if I…
- 35:02And I'll be, I'll happily lose the argument to you, Michael, if, if he
- 35:05shows up in a big way and looks like he can unseat Anthony Bradford through
- 35:10a couple games in the preseason.
- 35:12He, I, that's maybe part of the reason why I'm watching him so closely in,
- 35:16this game against the Cowboys.
- 35:18Clinton: I, I'm glad you parked there for a second and, and nice
- 35:20comment there by Michael Knight.
- 35:21Remember, do you guys remember the first preseason game last
- 35:24year against the Broncos?
- 35:27Phil: I don't.
- 35:28There was a lot of cool games since then.
- 35:30Clinton: Yeah.
- 35:31That's just, that's true.
- 35:34Phil: We got a- Like a winning streak that we're still
- 35:34Clinton: on … yeah, yeah.
- 35:35We don't have to slum it in the, in last year's preseason.
- 35:37But the, the, thing that just kind of came back to me from last
- 35:41year was that we got to see Gray Zabel early last year, and there was, we
- 35:45ran the crap out of the ball- Yeah
- 35:47that first preseason game, and it was like, oh my gosh, Zabel's athleticism
- 35:52is on display, and he's getting- Yeah … to the second level, and we're
- 35:54stealing things around the corner.
- 35:56So for Michael's, not so much sake, but, but maybe, maybe we get
- 36:00that kind of- Yeah … that kind of Bo performance, and it's like- Yeah
- 36:03oh, dude.
- 36:04Well, we
- 36:04Brandan: better because Zabel was hyping him up saying, "Oh, Bo might be ahead
- 36:07of where I was my rookie season," which-
- 36:09Clinton: Yeah
- 36:09… Brandan: I b- I don't buy that at all, but,- Yeah … if, if it's
- 36:12true, then, I wanna see it.
- 36:14Clinton: Yes.
- 36:15Me too.
- 36:15Me too.
- 36:16All right.
- 36:16So now I think we can move on.
- 36:18Phil, sounds like you are gonna go where I was gonna go, so why don't you go
- 36:21and we'll see if, we go together?
- 36:23Phil: We said we're talking blocking people.
- 36:25Mm-hmm.
- 36:25We just lost a guy who was planning to block on, say, 25-ish
- 36:29percent of the snaps this season.
- 36:31So we brought in somebody, I wish his name was just Lamp, but we have- … to
- 36:36pronounce the E at the end, so it ruins all the fun that I was hoping to
- 36:40have doing gifs in Discord this year.
- 36:43But I'm hoping he's that good where we do get some gifs on some killer Lampy
- 36:47blocks be- boy, I wish it was Lamp.
- 36:50But- So I, I've been looking forward to this game.
- 36:54That's my second one circled after Milroe, and I wanted to circle the guards as
- 36:59well, 'cause I'm really curious which ones are gonna get to stick with the team.
- 37:02I like Josh's idea of maybe trading Olu so that we can keep
- 37:05Bo and keep, bringing him up.
- 37:07But- After Jalen, the guy I wanna see is Lampy out there.
- 37:12I wanna see a guy that just knows how to play some fullback, and I wanna see if
- 37:16he will flourish in this Fleury system.
- 37:19Clinton: Ooh, I like that.
- 37:20I'll, I'll pass to you real quick, Brandan, the, the piece of Josh,
- 37:24DeHooman, who's hanging out with us right now, and, Josh Height, Field Gulls
- 37:28contributor, he's hanging out with us live right now too, along with Bryce.
- 37:31What's up, what's up, Bryce?
- 37:32Yep.
- 37:32And, Josh posted the YouTube highlights yesterday in- Yes … in
- 37:36our Discord for Sea Hawkers Podcast.
- 37:38And so then I, I went and watched it finally.
- 37:41And, you know, the…
- 37:43He's, he's at NIU, at, Northern Illinois there.
- 37:47He is doing the things, the half-orbit motions, and he's in motion a lot.
- 37:52And he's got soft hands.
- 37:54And- Mm … now, and, the thing that impressed me the most about the…
- 37:57It's a highlight reel, I understand that, but his positioning as a
- 38:02fullback seemed really just sound.
- 38:04Just, and-
- 38:05Phil: He's already a U's check.
- 38:05He's already a U's check, right?
- 38:06Clinton: Well, well, you know, maybe so, maybe not.
- 38:09But, but he looked, he looked competent, and he know- it looks like
- 38:12he really understands the position.
- 38:13So playing four years of college, couple years the, in the NFL now,
- 38:17I'm excited to watch Lampy.
- 38:19I do hope that Fleury gets a piece back that he might've lost with Utz.
- 38:24That's all I really want, is, like, can he get, s- a really strong
- 38:28fullback in the building again?
- 38:30Because Brandan, I think Fleury really does want that in his offense,
- 38:34considering where he came from and how much, how often the, the Niners would
- 38:38put two running backs on the field.
- 38:40Brandan: I can't believe that you guys are ready to move on from Brady
- 38:44Russell to some Patriots castaway, ahead of our, our special teams
- 38:51legend, that can also play fullback.
- 38:54Phil: We've seen Brady Russell, we've seen Brady Russell try to play on offense.
- 38:56Clinton: I, yeah, I don't think…
- 38:58I like Brady Russell as a human, and I like him as a- Yeah, he looks good.
- 39:01Yeah … as a sp- special teamer, and- He's
- 39:02Brandan: gonna be on the team anyway, though … and, and- Why can't he
- 39:05develop into being a, the bigger part- Well- … of the offense at fullback?
- 39:08Well,
- 39:09Clinton: that's a fair point.
- 39:09Mc- Macdonald will always say, and I've adopted this, you know,
- 39:12"You're allowed to get better," right?
- 39:13Yeah.
- 39:14And Russell is a, a good athlete on, unto his own right, and he's- Yeah, he is.
- 39:18He moves … an awesome human.
- 39:19We just met his, met his wife two, two years ago now at, at
- 39:22the, at the casino out there.
- 39:23It was great people.
- 39:25They, they had just gotten married.
- 39:26Awesome people.
- 39:27As a fullback, I don't see him, the chances we have gotten, I don't see
- 39:32him with enough power to be a fullback.
- 39:34Yeah, that's the
- 39:35Phil: thing.
- 39:35Clinton: And I just, I hope Lampy has more, but that's, that's
- 39:40the biggest I don't know yet.
- 39:41That's what I wanna see.
- 39:43that's what I wanna see Saturday, is, like, can he do
- 39:46the thing, not just position?
- 39:47Brandan: Yeah, can he be cleating dudes and putting them- Can he…
- 39:48Yes … on the ground and doing things that, maybe Because if you, if you
- 39:54aren't getting that from Russell or Lampy, then you're talking about having
- 39:58to use, some of the tight ends farther down in the depth chart to- Yeah
- 40:02to do those sorts of things.
- 40:03Clinton: Kalerup.
- 40:04Yeah, that's,- Kalerup … that's, that's about right.
- 40:07Brandan: Hey, if they're gonna keep Kalerup around on this team, they
- 40:09need to find some work for him too.
- 40:10Clinton: Well, Kalerup is the dude that is actually more like Utz, not sho- like
- 40:14size-wise, but it's not shocking 'cause he's also a tight end like Utz was, right?
- 40:18So it wouldn't be shocking if they're like, "Let's give
- 40:21him some run at fullback."
- 40:23with that, Lampy is actually a fullback, so let's see what he can do.
- 40:28Phil: Clinton's just so he can't get away from the sadness
- 40:31of Utz being gone for the-
- 40:33Clinton: I am sad about that
- 40:34… Phil: gotta learn how to face it.
- 40:37Clinton: Look, I just will continue to say I think Utz is a different
- 40:39type of athlete than those- Yeah
- 40:41other dudes are.
- 40:42In explosives, in his size, his mitts, his wingspan, he's
- 40:46a different type of athlete.
- 40:47he's injured, and that sucks, and I hope he gets healthy, but
- 40:51the other dudes- Oh … on the roster are not the athlete he is.
- 40:53Phil: I did notice, Fleury, he just likes to have two guys back there.
- 40:57So just- Yeah
- 40:57because he's running, you know, not n- just 'cause he's running maybe 12 or 11
- 41:03personnel, that doesn't mean he won't have two guys come to the backfield.
- 41:06He often will put, Kupp could go back there, right?
- 41:09He a- JSN could go back there.
- 41:11In fact, if you got a lead blocker- Bo-Boi … and your lead blocker
- 41:13turns out to be Kupp or Bobo, that's not even a bad thing either.
- 41:17They handle their business okay.
- 41:18So just because you're running what would be called 11 personnel,
- 41:23it doesn't mean that Fleury isn't going to bring one of those guys
- 41:28into the backfield with the H-back, with, with the running back himself.
- 41:31So-
- 41:32Brandan: Yep.
- 41:32Right
- 41:32… Phil: I, I think
- 41:33Brandan: that's something- Yeah, you can scheme around it.
- 41:34There's o- obviously, if, JSN's in the backfield, he's not putting
- 41:38anybody- No … in the ground either, even though,- But get
- 41:41Phil: the best players on the field, right?
- 41:43Brandan: Right.
- 41:43And- Well,
- 41:44Clinton: yeah.
- 41:44Brandan: Yeah … I don't know if we need to be, you know, three f- two, three
- 41:48fullbacks deep on the roster- Yeah … for
- 41:51Clinton: 53.
- 41:51Probably not.
- 41:52Probably not.
- 41:53We have other, other areas like having three quarterbacks, for sure.
- 41:56All right, well, where do we wanna go next?
- 41:57How about you, Brandan?
- 41:59Brandan: Oh, gosh, okay.
- 42:00So, I've talked about Bo Stevens.
- 42:02I, I've ta- is there another rookie?
- 42:05are we gonna get to see Julian Neal out there?
- 42:08I, I know that, I want to see him.
- 42:11But,-
- 42:12Phil: I don't, he's questionable still.
- 42:12Yeah.
- 42:13Brandan: Yeah.
- 42:13We've, we've addressed the, the depth at cornerback being an
- 42:16issue with signing Terrion Arnold.
- 42:18So,-
- 42:20Phil: What about Noah or, and, or-
- 42:22Brandan: Oh yeah, Noah Igbinoghene.
- 42:24I…
- 42:24And he's enough of a veteran, being seven years in.
- 42:27Yeah.
- 42:28I, well, I guess- Based on where he is on the depth chart, gosh, that
- 42:34one's gonna be interesting just to see how many snaps that he gets because
- 42:39a veteran, but outside our system-
- 42:41Clinton: Yeah
- 42:42Brandan: how much are they going to use him, within the preseason?
- 42:46Yeah, that, I, I could see that being an interesting part of it.
- 42:51And yeah, if we can see a little Igbinoghene, maybe we can start
- 42:55getting that name, drilled into our heads, because I do think that he's going
- 42:59to end up making this roster and,
- 43:02Phil: and- There's a couple bubble guys right there on
- 43:04that corner, especially- Right
- 43:05with our new signing.
- 43:06It's gonna be-
- 43:06Clinton: Yeah
- 43:07… Phil: interesting.
- 43:07Clinton: I, I think the, the potential-
- 43:10Phil: Pritchett, like-
- 43:11Clinton: Yeah, that, you just, you just named it right there.
- 43:13I think the, the telltale will be how, how confident is
- 43:19Macdonald in Nehemiah Pritchett?
- 43:21And I think a, a sign will be do we see him at all?
- 43:26Do we see Pritchett a lot?
- 43:28You know, now- Mm.
- 43:29Yeah … we just pushed out Arnold, so, like, seemingly Pritchett's
- 43:33now battling with him as well for, for, you know, for playing time.
- 43:36And- Neal, Pritchett,
- 43:37Phil: Igbinoghene
- 43:37… Clinton: well, and, and also Dansby.
- 43:39Dansby's b- been, been- Dansby … turning heads, in, in a positive way.
- 43:42Two of those guys are
- 43:42Phil: gonna make it.
- 43:43So- Will
- 43:43Clinton: Free,
- 43:44Phil: I don't know.
- 43:44Yeah.
- 43:44Clinton: Yeah, I, I don't know either.
- 43:46It's so, so will we see a…
- 43:47I, I guess what I'm trying to say is if we see a lot of Pritchett
- 43:50on Saturday, I'm not sure that's necessarily a great thing for Pritchett.
- 43:54Yeah.
- 43:55Now he, he could take every opportunity and be like, "No, I'm
- 43:57gonna take this and be lights out.
- 44:00Thank you for the opportunity."
- 44:01But I'm not sure what that volume says from a coaching
- 44:04perspective if we see a lot of it.
- 44:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 44:07We've got Yokai Hawk in the chat saying, "Which players
- 44:10wear the green dot on defense?"
- 44:11Patrick.
- 44:11Generally it's been the middle linebacker, so- O'Connell … Patrick O'Connell
- 44:16would probably be the guy since he's right behind Ernest Jones on the
- 44:20depth chart at middle linebacker.
- 44:21And, going into year four, yeah, I'd expect to see…
- 44:25'Cause I don't even know if O'Connell has made the 53 at,
- 44:30when it's come to roster cuts.
- 44:32Generally, he's made the team slipping to practice squad, and then, you know,
- 44:36we've seen him throughout the season as they brought him up from practice squad.
- 44:39But I don't know if he's ever made the cut and been part of the f- initial 53.
- 44:44Hmm.
- 44:45So, this could be a year…
- 44:49I…
- 44:49Selfishly, I still want him on the team, but- Yeah.
- 44:51… you know, if he gets cut, this, this could be a year where another team
- 44:55goes and picks him up just based on the level of experience that he has.
- 44:58So, whether that's O'Connell, maybe we see a little Tyrice Knight out there- Yeah
- 45:03wearing the
- 45:05Phil: green dot
- 45:05Brandan: too, so.
- 45:05Do you
- 45:05Phil: think Riley's gonna play?
- 45:06Do you think R- think Riley Mills will play a little bit?
- 45:09Brandan: I would, I would think- I would- … Riley plays a little bit, yeah.
- 45:12Clinton: I would think he gets a little run.
- 45:13I think so.
- 45:14It's
- 45:14Phil: the first preseason, right?
- 45:15So.
- 45:15Clinton: Yeah.
- 45:16I mean, absolutely.
- 45:17And, and on the Patrick, Patrick O'Connell part, I am so comfortable.
- 45:21Like, if, if he's our linebacker four, you know…
- 45:25How many do we typically carry?
- 45:26I don't really know.
- 45:28Do we have like five?
- 45:28Oh, you're talking
- 45:28Brandan: about Knight and O'Connell.
- 45:29Yeah.
- 45:29If you're talking about in- interior linebackers, yeah, four-
- 45:32Clinton: Okay.
- 45:33Yeah … five max.
- 45:33Yeah.
- 45:34So I mean, yeah, the interior for sure.
- 45:36Yeah.
- 45:36So I'm so comfortable- Four
- 45:39if he's our fourth linebacker.
- 45:40He's good.
- 45:41Phil: O'Connell and, O'Connell and Knight, right?
- 45:43That's who-
- 45:43Clinton: Well, and but Knight is, like, cemented.
- 45:45Like, Knight- Yeah … from my under- I mean, Knight is…
- 45:48I mean, look, ev- every chance- Listen … I have so much respect for Tyrice Knight
- 45:51after being, having a really good f- first rookie year, then losing his job
- 45:56to Drake Thomas, who did awesome, right?
- 45:58Totally.
- 45:59Phil: Great
- 45:59Clinton: camp.
- 45:59And everything Tyrice Knight did when he got his opportunities
- 46:02was just play good football.
- 46:04He played r- Yeah … just didn't make any noise.
- 46:06And there's…
- 46:08The, the pundits that are out there are like, "Look, if, if Tyrice Knight's
- 46:11on many other teams, the majority of teams, he's starting in this league."
- 46:16So I think, I, I think he's in bubble wrap with, with the other two dudes.
- 46:19But man, Patrick O'Connell to me is, like, so valuable.
- 46:23Phil: Like- Does anybody have a shot at unseating
- 46:25O'Connell for the fourth spot?
- 46:26I mean, do we think that
- 46:28Clinton: Surratt or Chris Paul- You got, you got Chris Paul and Surratt Yeah.
- 46:30And I don't know that either-
- 46:32Phil: Guess we'll see some of them in, in- Yeah.
- 46:33Surratt
- 46:34Brandan: spent more time on special teams- Special teams … last year.
- 46:37Yeah.
- 46:37So I, I would think that if they go-
- 46:39Phil: But O'Connell was great on special teams.
- 46:41Brandan: Yeah
- 46:42Clinton: Collins, he's good.
- 46:43Phil: He's
- 46:43Clinton: just
- 46:43Phil: a good linebacker He'd be trusted on the field
- 46:45if that's the thing I'm
- 46:46Clinton: a,
- 46:47Brandan: I'm a fan Michael Knight in chat saying, "So here I'm gonna ask a question.
- 46:50Do the starters even play at all?"
- 46:52And it's, it's really strange because when- No … we used to have four
- 46:57preseason games to where you, you definitely wouldn't see them in the
- 47:01first game, and then sometimes you'd see them for the first drive and maybe
- 47:05the second or third preseason game.
- 47:09If we go based on how, Coach Macdonald operated last season, we did not see
- 47:16Sam Darnold in the preseason at all.
- 47:18It was only Drew Lock, Jalen Milroe in that first preseason
- 47:21game against the Raiders last year.
- 47:24Mm-hmm.
- 47:24And then, gosh, did we see, I think maybe in the second game we
- 47:29saw Sam for at least just one drive.
- 47:33So yeah, it's, it's-
- 47:34Phil: Mm-hmm
- 47:35… Brandan: if we see him at all-
- 47:36Phil: That was
- 47:37Brandan: right … yeah, yeah, okay.
- 47:38So-
- 47:38Phil: Jason was out there for, like, two plays.
- 47:40Brandan: Right.
- 47:41Clinton: Yeah, only dude that I see that might start, and it's because
- 47:44of injury to Emmanwori, is Igbinoghene.
- 47:47Like- Yeah … maybe, maybe he's out there playing 'cause it's, he's
- 47:50in competition now- Yeah … and he ends up starting the year.
- 47:53But I, I still wouldn't put him in the star- starter category.
- 47:56No.
- 47:56That's 'cause of injury.
- 47:57Phil: As far as sophomores, I know this moves to the other side of the
- 47:59ball, but we talked about the guards.
- 48:01The only other sophomores I'm wondering if we'll get to see them a little
- 48:04bit, and they finished the season, you know, out hurt unfortunately.
- 48:08What about Arroyo and Horton?
- 48:10Do you think we'll get to see them a little bit in
- 48:12Clinton: the- Hmm.
- 48:12Good questions.
- 48:13Yeah, or they're like- They're like- … bubble wrap material too.
- 48:16What do you think, Brad?
- 48:16They're like
- 48:16Phil: snap getters but not necessarily starters
- 48:20Clinton: Yeah, they're important.
- 48:20What do you think, Brandan?
- 48:21Brandan: Oh, I was researching another, topic- Oh,
- 48:24okay … so why don't you take it?
- 48:25Clinton: Oh, okay.
- 48:26it'd be nice, like, a- a- Horton almost more so than Arroyo,
- 48:32and that's not Arroyo shade.
- 48:33I'm coming around to Arroyo, by the way.
- 48:34I, I wanna be very wrong on Arroyo.
- 48:37it'd be nice because of Horton's injuries.
- 48:40You know, just to get him back into a flow state out there.
- 48:43He's super, super talented, so maybe he gets, like, a series and
- 48:48gets, you know, gets a pass or two.
- 48:50That I could see happening, Phil, because you gotta go through a lot of
- 48:55wide receivers in games naturally anyway.
- 48:58and then, you know, when you look at tight ends, so, you know,
- 49:00we know Barnard's not gonna play.
- 49:02Fine.
- 49:02Phil: No, that's
- 49:02Clinton: fine.
- 49:02I don't know if Saubert gets in, because you still got Nick Vannett,
- 49:06you got Kaler up, you got other dudes down- down line in, in Arroyo.
- 49:10Saubert
- 49:11Phil: doesn't need to play.
- 49:11There's no benefit
- 49:12Clinton: to him playing.
- 49:13I don't think he needs to play either.
- 49:14He- he's, he's your starting, you know, in a 12 or 13, he's your
- 49:17blocking tight end starter in that way.
- 49:20So it looks to me like El- Elijah might get some run Saturday.
- 49:24Again, as a second-year dude who didn't get huge volume last year, and if you
- 49:31really wanna kinda wet Fleury's whistle a little bit about how he's gonna use
- 49:35him in different motion packages and-
- 49:37Phil: Mm-hmm
- 49:37Clinton: try to get mismatches on linebackers and,-
- 49:40Phil: Yeah
- 49:41… Clinton: you know, a- and so- Give
- 49:42Phil: Milroe something fun to throw to.
- 49:44If he had-
- 49:44Clinton: Yeah
- 49:44… Phil: those two guys on a couple drives, that would be nice.
- 49:46Clinton: So I think we might see both of them now that I'm looking
- 49:49at it deeper, so I, I'd like to see a little bit of both those guys.
- 49:52They're on- they're only second-year guys.
- 49:56Brandan: Yeah.
- 49:56I, I'm interested in seeing Arroyo and how he, has progressed from last
- 50:01year and I th- and I think, yeah, he definitely needs some pre-season snaps.
- 50:04So, maybe th- maybe that'll be a, a good target for…
- 50:09Well, let's see.
- 50:10Will he be out there with…
- 50:12One of the things we heard from Coach Macdonald is he, he kind of alluded to
- 50:17doing something a little bit different with the pre-season, and I, I wanna say
- 50:21it was with regard to a question about w- how much we're gonna see Milroe.
- 50:26Milroe.
- 50:26And so I wonder if we might end up seeing him get s-
- 50:31seeing him earlier than later.
- 50:34Phil: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 50:35I've be- I was just thinking about that before you brought that up again.
- 50:38I was like, "Is, is Milroe gonna get to play with any of the number twos, or
- 50:42does he have to wait till the second half and play with all guys that are unlikely
- 50:47to make the team, or just battling?"
- 50:49'Cause he's, he is the third string at this point.
- 50:52Guys that are just battling to try to make the roster or even the
- 50:55practice squad or try to get onto their teams, does he have to do that?
- 50:59'Cause that's kind of a bummer for us getting to see.
- 51:01However, Drew needs to get used to running the offense 'cause it- it's one snap
- 51:06away from him needing to go in there and help us win games if something does
- 51:09happen to Sam, because Mike Macdonald can't protect Sam, once we have
- 51:13kickoff, against the Patriots.
- 51:16Brandan: No, but he's also experienced enough that-
- 51:20Phil: Yeah
- 51:20… Brandan: I'm not really concerned about his number of pre-season snaps either.
- 51:25Phil: It's not as fun for us to watch Drew, no doubt.
- 51:27But I'm wondering, like, he does need to have some familiarity
- 51:31with those guys, right?
- 51:32Mm-hmm.
- 51:32Brandan: It's funny, Michael Knight in chat saying, Hard Knocks has
- 51:35changed his perception of the pre-season game because now, now we get to see
- 51:39the action of the practices- Yeah
- 51:42and through Hard Knocks and so we- But that's all
- 51:45Phil: dramatized and like-
- 51:46Brandan: A little bit, yeah.
- 51:47Yeah.
- 51:47But it, it's kind of, it satiated our appetite for football a little bit, right?
- 51:52For sure.
- 51:52Because we, we've gotten a little bit of it on Tuesday
- 51:55night, ahead of the game.
- 51:56So yeah, that's funny how that changes your, your outlook just a little bit.
- 52:00Clinton: But e- everything, my disposition.
- 52:03I, I couldn't sleep, what was it, Tuesday night, right?
- 52:06So Tuesday night, Hard Knocks comes on.
- 52:08It was s- a- I thought that episode was fantastic.
- 52:11Yeah.
- 52:11And then we went live and did the live after that, and that was a ton of fun.
- 52:15I, and I'm on the East Coast, so, you know, by the time we wrap- Middle of the
- 52:19Phil: night
- 52:19Clinton: it's like 11:30.
- 52:20I don't think I went to bed until about, like, 1:00.
- 52:23It was like game day for me.
- 52:24I was, like, buzzing.
- 52:25I'm like, I didn't have late coffee or nothing like that.
- 52:28I just had a hard time going to sleep.
- 52:30I was so yoked about that freaking episode.
- 52:32So definitely feel what Michael Knight's saying.
- 52:34And to your point, Brandan, that, you know, scratching the
- 52:37itch, it did that and then some.
- 52:39I had, like, a game day win buzz after that was over.
- 52:44Maybe it's just being a Seahawks fan.
- 52:45You like, you just, you feel like you won, you know, in many ways.
- 52:48Phil: Here's something different about pre-season, 'cause I don't
- 52:50wanna just dog on it constantly.
- 52:52It's so easy to dog on, and people like the practice one with
- 52:56another and your own teammates.
- 52:58You just treat them different, and you kinda know what's coming.
- 53:01Like, I coach soccer.
- 53:02It's very, very hard for us to surprise our own team on anything that we
- 53:07practice because we see it all the time, and you have to learn those things.
- 53:11There's something about a quarterback stepping up to the line, and he's
- 53:14not necessarily sure what the defense is gonna do, and they don't
- 53:18necessarily have his best interest.
- 53:20They're trying to make their own team.
- 53:22That is very good for linemen in the trenches.
- 53:26It's very good for a quarterback to process, and really all the players.
- 53:29Dealing with somebody that you don't face day in, day out that knows all your moves,
- 53:34knows all the stuff you do, that's very helpful information for the players to
- 53:38grow from and for the coaches to see how they handle, you know, all of Clinton's
- 53:44favorite players from the Cowboys.
- 53:47Brandan: Lisa in chat saying, "Anyone dogging on pre-season
- 53:50amiss- is missing the point.
- 53:51It's beautiful chaos and it frigging rules."
- 53:54Phil: Okay, thank you.
- 53:55Clinton: No, it is.
- 53:55That's…
- 53:56I love, I love it all.
- 53:57I did wanna ask, are you guys ready to fall in love with, with
- 54:01a wide receiver this pre-season?
- 54:03Are you ready for it?
- 54:04One that, you know- I
- 54:05Phil: mean-
- 54:05Clinton: that Brandan might need a new jersey type of,- No.
- 54:07Phil: You know?
- 54:08I like the guys we have.
- 54:09I like the guys we're familiar with.
- 54:10I don't want a manual to make the team.
- 54:12I mean, I'm fine if Ricky White's gonna be a combo guy.
- 54:15I don't need to fall in love with anybody.
- 54:16We have five awesome guys already
- 54:18Clinton: We
- 54:18Brandan: might have- I feel like I haven't fallen out of love with
- 54:21Jake Bobo enough- Yeah, right.
- 54:22Yeah … that, that I'm ready to move on to somebody new.
- 54:25Jake
- 54:25Phil: Bobo's season.
- 54:26Brandan: F-
- 54:26Clinton: f- fair enough.
- 54:27I mean, I just putting the warning out there that we may all fall
- 54:30in love with Foster, right?
- 54:31Montorie Foster.
- 54:32Different.
- 54:32Just because he's, he's lighting it up.
- 54:34And again, it's camp, and we know that camp is different than when the
- 54:39lights are on, but he's l- he looked really good, and I think he's number
- 54:4287, if someone wants to confirm that.
- 54:44Just so folks, you know, 'cause you're watching it live, it's
- 54:47like, you know the announcers in…
- 54:49Most often- Yeah … the announcers in pre-season don't know who this dude
- 54:53is, so we gotta go by the numbers.
- 54:55Brandan: Look, if there's any reason for me to fall in love with either Montorie
- 54:57Foster or Emmanuel Henderson, it's because they have actual wide receiver numbers.
- 55:03Henderson wears 84- … Foster wears 87.
- 55:06You have real actual wide receiver numbers- That's
- 55:09great … that, you can enjoy.
- 55:10Phil: It almost looks weird now.
- 55:12Somebody wearing eight, I'm like, "What's that tight end doing
- 55:14Brandan: out there?"
- 55:14Why is, why is a tight end running wide receiver routes?
- 55:16Clinton: Yeah.
- 55:16Yeah.
- 55:16Phil: You got 10, 11, 22, 15.
- 55:19I mean- I like,
- 55:20Clinton: I, I like those points.
- 55:21Those are good points.
- 55:22And so it'll be cool to watch that, like, back of the wide receiver room battle.
- 55:27And- S- strictly because it's such a deep room.
- 55:30Like, you know you're not sniffing the field, but may- maybe you'll
- 55:33get in some, some special teams as a gunner or something like that.
- 55:36So Ema- Emmanuel Henderson absolutely flies and then
- 55:39he can play the gunner spot.
- 55:41Phil: Yeah.
- 55:41Clinton: It'll be in Ricky White year two now, so d- it'll just be another
- 55:44interesting pool of dudes to watch.
- 55:47And then you got like, again, this team, the wide receiver room, you
- 55:51got Cody White sitting there as like, whether you call him wide receiver five
- 55:54or six and you flip-flop with Bobo.
- 55:56I like him.
- 55:56Man, I'm telling you right now, I've watched enough football that Cody
- 56:00White is a legit NFL wide receiver.
- 56:03Yeah.
- 56:03He is.
- 56:03And on many teams, probably upwards of 15 to 20, he's an easy wide receiver three,
- 56:09and he's sitting at five or six for us.
- 56:11So it's just gonna be cool to watch those dudes.
- 56:14but be, be prepared to at least get a little, little crush on one of these
- 56:18wide receivers for I have a feeling.
- 56:19What about a pass rusher?
- 56:19Brandan: Yeah.
- 56:20Well, Michael Knight is going where I wanted to go next anyway.
- 56:23Every preseason there is a rising star.
- 56:25Who will it be?
- 56:26Mm-hmm.
- 56:26We should have a contest.
- 56:27Pick the guy who shines this August.
- 56:30I, I don't know if I'm gonna pick the guy just to, in a, in terms of
- 56:34prediction, but I do have someone who I want to shine, and I want my preseason
- 56:38crush to be, because this generally is- Oh
- 56:40a skill position player, right?
- 56:42It's not like you fall in love with a, an interior defender because he- Can be a
- 56:46pass rusher … he's a great run stopper.
- 56:47May- maybe a pass rusher.
- 56:49But not obviously- We do see it a little bit with pass rushers.
- 56:50Yeah, yeah.
- 56:50Mm-hmm.
- 56:50You had depth pass rushers.
- 56:52Yeah.
- 56:52We've had that in the past, and I think, Ivy was one of those guys- Yeah
- 56:56in past seasons too that we've, we've seen have a n- a- He looked
- 56:59really good … a nice preseason.
- 57:00Mm-hmm.
- 57:01But for me, it would be Velus Jones, because we do have a little bit of
- 57:06depth at the running back that, I could be interested in and intrigued by.
- 57:11And Velus Jones, I think he has the ability to maybe be a- Yeah
- 57:16depth piece on special teams, too.
- 57:18So if he can show me something at running back, I, he's who I want my crush to be.
- 57:23That, to- He's gonna play a lot … to really, if he's pushing the other
- 57:26running backs like Holani and Price, that, that- And Wilson.
- 57:31Clinton: Don't
- 57:31Brandan: forget Wilson … and, and Emmanuel Wilson, yes.
- 57:33If, if Velus Jones- Wilson
- 57:34is my preseason crush, I think that would be, it would be a good sign for the team.
- 57:38Mm-hmm.
- 57:38Phil: I do want to see Wilson play a little bit.
- 57:40I'd like to see him out there a little bit.
- 57:42Clinton: you know, there's a whole season of Packers, games.
- 57:46W- he's, he's good Yeah,
- 57:48Phil: I know … he's,
- 57:48Clinton: he's Charbonnet, man.
- 57:49Like, I will keep, the moment we got him until now, I was like, "This guy
- 57:53is complete Charbonnet insurance."
- 57:56And that is to say he's a perfectly respectable NFL running back who hits
- 58:01holes hard, sees, has good vision.
- 58:03He's just a good football player, man.
- 58:05I would not be shocked if we get to the end of the year and it's
- 58:08simply like he wa- he's been more valuable than his whatever $1.8
- 58:12million contract, says.
- 58:14But, but yeah, I'm with you.
- 58:16I, I think we'll see a little bit of Wilson.
- 58:17I would imagine we would.
- 58:19But Phil, do you have someone you're hoping to crush on,
- 58:22from a player perspective?
- 58:24Phil: I think I, the only one I can think of besides Lampy
- 58:28is Mason Richman, I guess.
- 58:29I, I wanna see Mason Richman- Come on, it can't
- 58:31Brandan: be a lineman.
- 58:32Clinton: Why not?
- 58:33Brandan: Nobody, nobody
- 58:34Clinton: falls in love with linemen.
- 58:35You, you don't tell m- You love
- 58:35Phil: Zabel
- 58:36Clinton: right?
- 58:36You don't,
- 58:36Phil: you don't- Zabel was the star of last preseason.
- 58:39Yeah, you
- 58:39Clinton: don't tell- You were crying about him … Mr.
- 58:40Phil how to crush here, Brandan.
- 58:41You're not a, you know, Judge Judy
- 58:43Brandan: next to- Saying it's not a valid crush of crushing
- 58:45on a, a, a lineman anywhere.
- 58:47Phil: For me, it's usually a pass rusher, and we have five veteran dudes.
- 58:51Like, they, we're not gonna get to see anything cool.
- 58:53Well- I mean, maybe Uso's gonna go out there or, and I mean,
- 58:56Clinton: Yeah, Uso could be interesting.
- 58:57That depend, that knows.
- 58:58But I think the dude, we just mentioned pass rusher, but Jalen
- 59:02Gaines is at least interesting.
- 59:03Yeah, it could be Jalen Gaines.
- 59:04Phil: Okay.
- 59:04' Clinton: Cause- Maybe Jalen Gaines … just watching some speed off the edge.
- 59:06And the reason, the reason that that particular, well, dude plus his
- 59:11position is interesting is because we have defensive ends that are older.
- 59:18You know, this very well could be DeMarcus Lawrence's last year.
- 59:20So it's actually a position where if we see a guy really shine in this
- 59:25August, he might be really important come like next, next October.
- 59:29So I'll go with Gaines.
- 59:30If we see a couple of sacks from Gaines around the, around the corner,
- 59:33maybe a little fumble sack, type thing, that'll get me fired up.
- 59:37Phil: Yeah, it's gonna be tough.
- 59:38This team's, we're really good, so, it's gonna be hard to really get fired.
- 59:44I'm talking about somebody, I'm excited 'cause they're gonna make a difference
- 59:46this year, and whoever that fourth interior lineman, he's gonna play.
- 59:51I would be stoked if Richman just locks people down.
- 59:55I honestly would, because that is such an important aspect to our team humming
- 59:59for when somebody does miss a few games.
- 1:00:02Brandan: All right.
- 1:00:02So, yeah, for me, it's Jones.
- 1:00:06for Phil, it's Richman, and, you're taking the, the- I got
- 1:00:11Georgia … freshman Jalin Gaines.
- 1:00:12So- Yeah, I like the Gaines pick.
- 1:00:13and, we have, let's see- Lampy.
- 1:00:17Phil: Lampy's the backup.
- 1:00:18Brandan: We, we…
- 1:00:18Yeah, I, I am, I am interested in seeing Lampy.
- 1:00:20Yokai Hawk in chat saying, who do we think we will see returning kicks?
- 1:00:24Clinton: Hmm.
- 1:00:25Brandan: Good question.
- 1:00:25I think maybe a little bit of Horton to start.
- 1:00:28Phil: Emanuel?
- 1:00:29Clinton: You think so, huh?
- 1:00:30Think they're gonna put him in position to take a hit like that?
- 1:00:33Brandan: I think maybe to start.
- 1:00:34Clinton: Okay.
- 1:00:35Brandan: But,- Well, they did the…
- 1:00:36Yeah, they did second … but I think depth guys, I, I
- 1:00:37think it will be Velus Jones.
- 1:00:39Yeah.
- 1:00:39Phil: Not Henderson?
- 1:00:41Brandan: I don't know about Henderson.
- 1:00:42Clinton: Well, he did it in, at, was Kansas, right?
- 1:00:44So he did it at school- Yeah … and he was at, at university, as
- 1:00:47they say, and he had a couple of, take backs to the house.
- 1:00:50So-
- 1:00:51Phil: Bryce Cable do is gonna be returning kicks.
- 1:00:53I mean, I don't know why-
- 1:00:54Clinton: I love it.
- 1:00:54I love it.
- 1:00:56no, that, I would, I was gonna, I was gonna vote for Henderson to get a, get at
- 1:00:59least one attempt or two, so we'll see.
- 1:01:02Brandan: All right.
- 1:01:02Well-
- 1:01:03Phil: It better not be Rasheed, and it won't be.
- 1:01:05No.
- 1:01:05Clinton: It might not be that many attempts because, even with
- 1:01:08our twos and threes, it's still the Seahawks defense, which is good.
- 1:01:12Brandan: That's right.
- 1:01:13All right.
- 1:01:13getintheflock.com
- 1:01:15if you wanna help support the show.

- 1:01:55Clinton: It is.
- 1:01:55It's just…
- 1:01:55And it's just getting more and more warmed up.
- 1:01:58This has been a beautiful, slow snowball of massing good
- 1:02:03energy, and I'm, I'm ready, dudes.
- 1:02:06I am so ready to lock in Saturday.
- 1:02:08It, for me, it's my nighttime here out in Connecticut.
- 1:02:11Probably pop a beer, get my notebook ready, Brandan and
- 1:02:14Phil, because then we're gonna…
- 1:02:16You know, I plan on getting a three and three out ready for next week and
- 1:02:19just rolling right into, you know, while it's the players' preseason,
- 1:02:23I think I'm season ready, boys.
- 1:02:25I think I'm ready.
- 1:02:26Brandan: All right.
- 1:02:27Well, if you're gonna do three and three out, hopefully no Cowboys
- 1:02:30make your list- … of ins and outs.
- 1:02:31Clinton: How about if it's, like, Cowboys getting burnt?
- 1:02:34Like Caleb, Caleb Downs not looking that great because- That is acceptable
- 1:02:37… Phil: of- Mason Richman just-
- 1:02:39Clinton: There we go … smacking
- 1:02:39Phil: their defensive line.
- 1:02:40Clinton: There we go.
- 1:02:42Phil: And I think with that-
- 1:02:43Clinton: There's only one thing left to say.
- 1:02:45Phil: Go Hawks.
- 1:02:46Go Hawks.
- 1:02:46Beat the Boys.
- 1:02:48Clinton: Go Hawks.
- 1:02:49Phil: Go Hawks.
